really fun and dramatic for rock 4.5

I freaking love Muse, their vibe and the singers voice are immaculate

Lenge siden eg har hørt på muse

I have a similar relationship with Muse that I have with Red Hot Chili Peppers, I like them, but I haven’t listened to them often, although that might be the reason for me liking them, the lack of oversaturation that a lot of people seem to be using as a reason for why these bands suck

Great album, quite a ride

Quite good but gets alot.

I really enjoyed this. Was a little edgy, but not too much. I really enjoyed how the drum and guitar interacted with the vocals. Gave each song a very smooth feel

Cool start. The man in gold on the cover looks like the bald sterilised man from Game of Thrones. Yoooo, beat. Love the cover of the album. I know this song! (3rd one). The album is added to my liked albums in Spotify now. 4 songs added to my liked. Good album!

Just an overall great album. I've only heard a couple songs off the album as I don't listen to Muse all that much. I know I like them, but I don't think I've ever sat down and just listened to a whole album. I'm glad I did here, pretty much every song is great, and there's not much here I'd say is skipable. There's only a couple of songs I ever got tired of listening too, and the ones I did like, I really enjoyed. 8/10

Rock alternativo.

Some moments of brilliance and then a few songs that may grow on me over time, but that don't seem at the moment to be at the same level of heights as the others. Overall, a good album, and one I had not listened to before.

I thought this was very good. The more pop orient d stuff is as good as anything, say, U2 ever did, plus some more interesting weirdo experimental elements to round it out. Interesting band I’d never really listened to before.

Muse were the first band I saw pull off the stadium rock show with complete authority. Such a massive sound from a 3 piece and as a non-fan at the time, they really impressed. This album was pretty cool, but I'm still not a Muse guy.

I enjoyed this more than I thought. A dramatic hybrid of Queen and Radiohead. Just a bit too dramatic though.

Pretty great, awesome instrumentals and the production is pretty solid. Definitely my type of music, and a great listen.

I think the band has a great sound in every regard, from vocals, to instruments, to keyboards to general production. It is completely original and authentic, but I just can’t get into the songs at all. They fail to leave a mark worthy if their name and I imagine they are better and more entertaining live than for listening.

Great music. Sounds are melodic, have a sense of drama to them.

Really unique driving electronic rock. There's several stellar songs and much of the rest is pretty engaging and enjoyable. Soldier's Poem is a small miss, but the rest of this album is great.

🤩🤩

It's hardly subtle, is it? Lots of fun, though, and Knights Of Cydonia is the soundtrack to a sci-fi spaghetti western I'd really like to see.

Great rock album.

This is a good album, despite my abandonment of rock music for most of the beginning of the second millennium, I have given this album a listen or two. Had I stayed interested in rock, I'm sure it would have been a staple.

Muse all sounds similar to me. I like it but nothing stands out much

This album brings up memories of being deployed to Iraq in 2007. I listened to the heck out of these songs.

81/100: I’ve listened to a few Muse songs before and really loved them, so I was really excited going into this album. Maybe it’s because I hadn’t listened to much Radiohead when I first heard Muse, but on this listen through I was struck by how similar their sound was to that of Radiohead. They seem to be a softer around the edges version of Radiohead, but I think with the type of music the two bands produce, “soft around the edges” isn’t necessarily what you should be going for. I really liked this album, though, despite it underperforming when held up to Radiohead’s discography. That’s a pretty unfair comparison though, as most albums don’t hold up to Radiohead’s best albums. I’m also a big fan of the fact that no song in this album shares the same name as the album; however, in “Starlight,” the name of the album appears a few times. I like that vague subtlety.

Good symphonic rock album with alot of experiments

Good modern day rock

A band that was on the periphery of my musical universe. I was seriously impressed by the start of the album. A significant variety of structure and sound without ever losing their energy. A negative point for me is when Matt Bellamy uses high pitched vocals - but that is something that I will overcome with time (as I did with Geddy Lee - No, I am not comparing Muse to Rush). While all the tracks are good in their own way, none of them made me think 'I have to hear that again' or made my hair stand on end. This lack of that something extra stops it from being a 5 star album

Starts off amazingly and finishes spectacularly couple middle songs I didn't love but I didn't hate Singer reminds me of Thom Yorke

This album sounds very...intricate. You can hear the passion in every little aspect of the music, and you can hear the lengths they went to to make this album as good as possible. Though there are downsides, it's still a very solid project. 8/10

I thought I didn't like Muse, but maybe I was wrong. I get some Queen vibes, some Dream Theater, too. I like some of the droning being offset by the little soaring oohs, aahs, harmonies and such. I hadn't noticed any of that before since I wasn't listening with good headphones (I am this time). Assassin and Knights of Cydonia were the only songs I had heard before, which is a shame because I think Assassin is kind of weak. Supermassive Black Hole slaps. I really like the brush drum sound in Hoodoo, makes me think of Leprous and/or Bohren & Der Club of Gore. Somehow, I didn't realize Muse is prog. Cool!

Allegedly a masterpiece, listening to it in Falcon as we speak. Not quite sure what to make of it, almost seems to be trying too hard to be "a thing". Still working with it, but it's growing on me.

As I was growing up, Muse were among my favourites after coming across a televised live show of theirs, around the time of their first record in 1999. Then came a series of albums, one stronger than the next, and their albums peaked around the time of this record - Black Hole and Revelations - stronger songs, great singles, and a well rounded overall. Probably not as good as its predecessor, Absolution. At least from my recollections... Of course, over the years, I kind of fell out of love with the band (I'm afraid to check how deep into the conspiracy nuttery Matt Bellamy might have dug himself into) - but even musically, they are what they are, and while I used to like their epic Rhapsodiacal nature, I don't love it anymore. Now, with that in mind, listening to this record brought over some nostalgia, and it's a well balanced album, yet feels a bit dated production wise. It's got great songs, and some stellar singles, but the 'maturity' that was felt they achieved when they released the record, doesn't exactly hit the mark with enough time passing, and it's not as fun and care-free as some of their previous albums. Anyway, I'm rambling. Good record, too self-important, this band has better ones.

Getting strong notes of Ours - interesting songs to sing with deep beats and sounds - yeah

It turns out there's a lot of music from the aughts that I really like - I think it takes me back to having little kids and figuring it all out, so really nostalgic. I think about "Fireflies" by Owl City even "Clocks" by Coldplay from a few years earlier - there's a common sound that pulled us out of the crapfest that was the late 90s ("The Boy is Mine" by Brandi and Monica, anyone? WHY DON'T YOU HAVE LAST NAMES??). There's something Queen-like and Pink Floyd-like about Muse. For me, "Starlight" sums it up - it begins as some guitar that lets you know that these guys ain't forking around. Will I get screamed at Napalm style? But then...but then...the bright dulcet tones of the (electronic) piano and soaring vocals makes me wish I was spinning in circles with wheels on my feet at the Washington Elementary Spirit Nights at Jellybeans (RIP). Man, that was the life. Thanks for the nostalgia trip, Muse. A solid 4 from me.

This album goes pretty hard and there's lots of hits on here. I like the energy and the use of both good synths and guitar on this album. There's some decent political overtones here but for the most part I don't connect that much with the lyrics and the music can be a bit dramatic at times. But overall I think it's a solid album and it's been very influential on a lot of modern bands

This was much better than I expected it to be. A lot of this album sounded like a more modern version of U2 and I thought the production was very strong. Like U2 though I felt like some of it was a little too "over the top" and forced sounding especially towards the end of the album.

Liked it before, liked it now, seems like an odd criticism but maybe too loud?? Knights Of Cydonia goes stupid hard as always

Dope 4

This was a solid album. Unique in their own way.

4/5. Never thought I liked Muse but enjoyed the album, perhaps there is hope for Radiohead too! Vocals are both strong and haunting as well as quite annoying. Suspect it could could have been a 5/5 more often than not with other reviewers.

some famous singles, overall album is OK, interesting sound

So many memorable tracks on this album. Brings me back to high school.

muse - black holes and revelations (2006) notes - stadium rock, space opera - some really great, creative and memorable guitar and drums across the whole album fav song - starlight - one of those undeniably good songs - catchy without being predictable, lots of little details for the ear least fav - exo politics - less interesting, weaker version of the same formula as some other songs 4/5 - probably a full point just for nostalgia

this album is very good, reminds me on radiohead in a way. there’s definitely a lot of inspiration from the likes of OMD or even REM. this is a very good indie rock album, 7.7/10

I always thought Muse had this samey sound that made there songs all kind of blend together, but Black Holes has great, well defined sounds throughout every song. Very good.

The opening track sounds like dated prog rock although it redeems itself with a good whack of noise at the end. The second song, Starlight, sounds contrived -  like it was intended to be "the single". I was surprised to read that it was the second single. With the singles out of the way, the album gets better again.  Assanin starts the same way as the opening track but redeems itself much sooner. The trend continues with most of the other songs (Knights of Cydonia being an excellent example) where the vocals sound like prog rock but the music is fresh and cookin' with attitude. They experiment with a lot of different sounds and this really works. For example the  solo in City of Delusion has an exotic sound that is far less heavy than the rest of the song.   Most the songs have 5 potential. There are a couple of plain vanilla songs which isn't fatal, but the one thing that is tough to deal with is the vocals reminding me of prog rock. I'm not talking about PG era Genesis prog rock; they remind me of  the prog rock that still causes nightmares - like Styx. This makes the 5 fall to a 3 but I'll bump to 4 since I do like the majority of the music and the 3 rating won't make my nightmares turn into The Grand Illusion.

pog album

Solid.

Solid album from a solid band

Had already liked Supermassive Black hole (track 3). Like the album quite a bit - different directions than I tend to choose but with still familiar sounds.

I should listen to Muse more

Pretty pretty great. 4.5

This is a pretty good album, very well put together, some massive singles. not everyone loves matt Bellamys voice (i don't really) - but song composition is very good.

I really enjoy this album. It is creative and a few of the songs are pretty mid 2000’s iconic. I think the muse get a bad wrap because their newer music is no where near their old stuff, and because of this people dislike this album. I can understand hating this album because you played Knights of Cydonia on guitar hero a couple thousand times but for me, Matt Bellamy’s voice is solid and I miss the old Muse 4/5

Clear Queen influence

Nice electro-rock sound. "Starlight" and "Supermassive Black Hole" are probably the most known songs. 8/10.

really good, hadn't heard it before, but reminded me of shoegaze.

I've never listened to Muse because I was skeptical of the hype surrounding them. This is album is an epic listen. The instrumentation is very creative and evocative throughout. His voice is incredibly effortless. I get the sense the album had an overarching theme. Sounds like: Radiohead, heavy Smashing Pumpkins, romantic/classical, White Stripes Standout tracks: "Take a Bow" was a great intro. "Starlight" of course is a bopper "Invincible" and "Knights" had epic moments

Really solid album. Starlight is extremely catchy and fun. The slow crescendo throughout Invincible pays off in a thunderous climax and Knights of Cydonia is a great rock song with prog elements.

Solid album. Starts off with what would be a better last song but keeps the momentum going.

Already a fan of Muse but havn't listened to most of their albums fully. This album is pretty good.

A lot of people find Muse overrated and I get it. But this album holds a special place in my heart and takes me back to my 16 year old self. Man, I just want to go to space.

Like a lost U2 album.

good album, not as good as absolution, but still solid. slightly more experimental

Amazing album. Great space rock.

Fav songs: - Take a Bow - Starlight - Knights of Cydonia

yeah muse is kinda cool

Have not listened to Muse in years. This was better than I thought it would be. Will come back to it.

Best Song: Knights of Cydonia. Although there are many great tracks on this album, I have to give it to this one, largely because of how unique it is, and the intense feelings of nostalgia I have for it. Worst Song: Soldier's Poem. Amidst the epic, grandiose tracks that begin and end this album, this sleepy lullaby in the middle falls short. Overall: Muse somehow is able to create this epic and expansive sound that doesn't come off as cheesy or self-important. The vocals always carry this slightly ethereal wisp and the instrumentation feels both science fiction and fantasy. For reasons that I can't fully articulate, this music feels like hymns for the space age.

This and Origin of Symmetry are my favorite Muse albums. Too bad they get worse and worse with every album they put out. It's music that was probably made in a lab and if I were to sniff the album I would get glitter in my nose, but it's still really damn good. The best song on the album, also the best song of the entire Muse discography is without a doubt "Knights of Cydonia". Other great songs: "Starlight", "City of Delusion", "Glorious" and "Supermassive Black Hole".

This is a band that I've long meant to get to know better, so I'm glad this album showed up today. This band scares the sh*t out of me. I mean that in a great way. Not scared as in I'm frightened of any danger; it's more akin to intimidation. And it's why I'm drawn to them. Their music, at least the few songs I've heard over the past few years when I first stumbled across them, can be complicated, layered, and tense. I love that. This is the first full album of theirs to which I've ever listened in its entirety. They can be a bit more straightforward at times than I had experienced previously, and I like the range it shows and the accessibility it provides. Masterful musicians, writers, and arrangers. Performances are incredible. I shall spend more time with them, I know.

An album that unites rock and baroque pop. Some songs are also reminiscent of Prince, U2 and Hendrix. Beautiful. (8/10) FT: Knights Of Cydonia, Supermassive Black Hole, Soldiers Poem

I enjoyed this. I didn't follow the band until The Resistance. Their music is a great blend of many things I like. This record is no exception.

Quite a good listen for me personally. Supermassive Black Hole will always be baseball from Twilight, but Starlight was one of my favorite songs growing up. Everything else was new to me. Melodically, it gets a little bit predictive, but nonetheless pleasant. I also really like the rock instrumentals going on.

Really good writing and musicianship.

This is where I start to fall off with Muse. This album is really great, but the pop elements start to outgrow their proggy britches here and it really begins to spoil the whip-smart arena prog niche they’ve carved for themselves. Still, Knights of Cydonia is a JAM. 3.5

Goddamn I love Matthew Bellamey's voice. His falsetto is so clean, I hate it! Starlight is great. Supermassive Black Hole is entertaining. Soldier's Poem is very Queen-esque. Knights of Cydonia is just so good. Gosh this album was such ear candy I can't help giving it a high ranking even if it doesn't converge on some grand ideal.

Not even close to Origin Of Symmetry

Hard to judge as it was played to death when it came out and they recieved a fair bit of criticism for being over the top and I seem to remember they were becoming unfashionable at the time this album came out. I prefer Origin of Symmetry but this album is good too. Despite heavy influence from Radiohead and Jeff Buckley Muse are still very much their own thing (no one ever talks about their Rachmaninov influence though!). This album is a good representation of their epic, stadiumy music. I don't mind the over the topness and I really enjoyed listening to "Starlight" and "Map of the Problematique" again.

Not bad, lyrics are ominous, couple of tracks I enjoyed. Singer eerily similar to some of Thom Yorke’s rockier songs

I've often not known how to feel about Muse. At their best (whatever that means on a personal level) they seem a perfect modern mix of Queen and Radiohead with a metal-ish bent but with strong melodic tendencies. Then other times they turn me off with overblown production, overly-emotive vocals and just...too much. This album has always had a bit of both but I think overall it's a really good intro to whether someone's going to like them or not - i'll start with the annoying because there's less of that for me on this album: the only track I really dislike is "Assassin" - it's the too much/too dense/too loud all crystalized. Overall the album (and band) do suffer from a sameness and density that's occasionally tough to get through in long stretches for me. But at the same time the album is an interesting and rather diverse platter of weird and haunting melodies - you have a very accessible "Starlight" which has a very late80s new wave melodic sound to it in the verses...."Supermassive Black Hole" sounds a bit like a different band - took me a while to like that one with affected falsetto vocals but the thickythic riffs are pretty compelling. Speaking of riffs, "Map of the Problematique" is a pretty great one. "Exo-Politics" is a rather basic (for Muse) composition but a good straightforward rock song. Nice to finally hear a bit of dynamics (i.e. acoustic guitar) on the beginning of "City of Delusion" even if it (of course) launches into a much bigger song - albeit with different middle-eastern tonalities on this one (which carry into the next one "Hoodoo" - speaking of which...Jeff Buckley vocal influence on the beginning there...?). I can see why some would dislike this band for the same reasons others would love them: a larger-than life loud arena guitar rock band that utilizes a ton of electronic effects and overwrought vocals... it's not a band for everyone, but I'll take this over something like Lou Reed's* shit any day. 7/10 4 stars. *(yes it's a personal vendetta to crap on Lou Reed and his acolytes when/wherever possible even when there's absolutely no reason. Because he was a musical mockery and that's enough of a reason any day.)

Very good before going into madness

Peak Muse?

Been meaning to listen to Muse for a while, did not disappoint.

swear we’ve already had this

I see why some say it sounds like radiohead

I love the dystopian themes of this album, along with the cinematic touches to multiple tracks. Teleported me back to a decade ago for sure.

Smells like teen spirit

I find it hard to separate this album from my previous experience of it - which is to say, it sounds like my adolescence. At least part or that has to do with the sheer bombast and somewhat overwrought quality of the lyrics. That's not necessarily a knock on the album, either. It's a lot of fun, musically a rock solid piece of work from a band that had just gone stratospheric, with a whole load of elements of a Western-tinged space opera. I was never a hardcore Muse fan, but this album is perhaps the one I've had most history with of the ones I've listened to so far, and it holds up perhaps better than I expected: it's loud, varied, and weird in all the right places. In Supermassive Black Holes, Map of the Problematique, Starlight and Knights of Cydonia, the album has a respectable clutch of hits (the latter of which is good enough to retain some charm even despite a million drunken Rock Band failures). There are lots of elements to commend lesser played tracks such as Assasin, too. As an album, however, it feels slightly disjointed. Some tracks seem like they'd have been a better fit on earlier albums, while others, like Knights of Cydonia, are fully committed to that particular Southwesten Alpha Centauri theme. It's almost as if they didn't quite have the confidence in their newfound star status to fully commit to their concept across the whole album. Every musical decision on the album seems specifically designed to up the drama, which, given the requisite amount of weirdness, is exactly how stadium rock ought to be done. However, the lyrics also naturally tend towards the overblown, and sometimes struggle to convey their sentiments without veering into theatrical insincerity. Connecting with some of the songs emotionally can feel like a performance in and of itself.

Surprisingly good. Highly enjoyable. He gets a little whiney sounding.

Ambitious. Epic. Spacey yet firmly grounded. A fine listen.

I thought I didn’t like Muse. I think I was wrong. Their sound on the album varied a lot instrumentally which was cool

Pretty good, some great tunes here. Some of the slower songs stopped this from being higher rated.

Epic and delightful. Haven't listened to this a while but I can see myself entering a Muse phase.

Pretty great album overall. Not one I really loved but one I have big respect for. Very heavy at times and some of the song transitions were hard to spot. Throughout it's got some brilliant songs, with Knights of Cydonia being my favourite. Also enjoyed the singles Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole and the album cut Assassin.

Thicc riffs

I really like Muse. Seen them live twice, this is a really good album, love the singles, the rest of the songs are ok. I do prefer Absolution to this album, but as a muse fan I’d rate this 4 stars. Can see why it’s been removed from the newer editions of the book, as it’s not an album I’d be telling people who have never heard of muse to go listen to, but my own personal preference is I really like this.

A good album but not their best.

Take a Bow - sounds like an intro track Starlight - sounds like a really good actual first track; the production makes the introductory bass riff and sprawling synth lines hit like a ton of bricks. Matt Bellamy's emotion-heavy performance drives the lyrics of frayed-relationship issues home. Supermassive Black Hole - i like how the dark synths juxtapose with the cocky whining guitars and vocal performances. there's a lot of different sounds and ideas being toyed with that come together really well. Map of the Problematique - sports a catchy repetitive motif that's built upon with unique synths, guitar tones, and layering vocal lines. it feels more vibey than the other tracks without the engaging rhythmic and melodic switch-ups. Soldier's Poem - a stripped-back acoustic piece that isn't long enough to leave much of an impact, but the Beach Boys-esque harmonies are interesting Invincible - the track only gets interesting during the bridge, with warbling sound effects, wailing guitar lines, and that really cool bass line at the beginning of it; the rest of the song is an unimpressive slow burn. Assassin - the repetition-heavy nature of the song structures throughout the album start to lose their luster, even though this song still works. the opening lines don't grab as well as earlier tracks like "Starlight" but there's still enough aggression and space-rock inspired sounds to give the song the drive it needs. Exo-Politics - the track is punchy from the opening drum pattern, topped with haunting theremins and fuzzy, distorted guitars. City of Delusion - constantly morphing into different sonic palettes, with Spanish guitars and trumpets sprinkled into an epic piece. Hoodoo - I haven't been clicking with the more ballad-ish tracks so far, but this one works better than the previous. The crescendo near the middle of the track paired with meaningful lyrics creates a decent deep cut for the record. Knights of Cydonia - Goddamn, this one's good. It's such an epic way to finish the track list with so many interesting qualities, like the piercing acapella section and its overall sense of scope. Overall, I enjoyed this record a lot more than I thought I would. Most of the deep cuts don't hit as hard as the singles, but the space-rock/prog-rock/alternative-dance sounds sound great with the powerfully unique vocals and staggering musicianship. BEST TRACKS: Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole, City of Delusion, Knights of Cydonia WORST TRACKS: Invincible

Muse sounds like the lovechild of Radiohead and Coldplay, and as insulting as that might sound, it actually works really well here. All of these songs are well written, well performed, well produced, and honestly make me think of Muse in a different light than I had previously. The biggest issue I have with the album is that there isn't a whole lot of personality throughout. Regardless, the songs are strong enough to largely ignore this fact and just groove/rock out. Favorite Tracks: "Starlight", "Supermassive Black Holes", "Invincible", "City of Delusion", "Knights of Cydonia", "Glorious"

Maybe half the songs here are really cool, monster Radioheadesque-rock wins, and about half are so incredibly cringe. Like, painfully cringe. So, I guess a 3? I don't feel bad saying I like Muse. I would feel very embarrassed if I said this was my favorite band. Fave tracks: - Take a Bow - Supermassive Black Hole - Map of the Problematique - Soldier's Poem - City of Delusion - Hoodoo - Knights of Cydonia

I liked this but realised that the Spotify had carried on playing more Muse - and the tracks I liked the most weren't on this album :\

Felt more like an aesthetic exercise than anything. I think they just dive too deep into the whole sci-fi thing. But every once in a while it really works. Bellamy does pull out some great melodies.

Knights of Cydonia rules. Some great songs on here. Lots of filler.

Muse is classified as electronic space rock pop. The songs are good but the constant over the top music, dystopian survival lyrics and dramatic singing got on my nerves after awhile. Starlight and Supermassive Black Hole are good songs and there are other good guitar riffs in here.

eu escutei o album nao curti dei 42 no aoty

Kroger brand Radiohead

Knights of Cydonia is still one of the best songs of all time. Brings me right back to the Guitar Hero 3 days iykyk Starlight and Supermassive Black Hole are still bangers. Map of the Problematique has such a good riff it's crazy and the chorus is so catchy. Slow songs ruin albums like this and Soldier's Poem and Invincible are no different. Assassain feels like it's trying to do too much, too noisy. The rest of the album just sounds like Generic Muse. I'm a bit sick of Muse now tbh and mostly skip their stuff when it comes up.

radiohead esque but pre kid a, paranoid android era

I want to like it but every so often it just seems to descend into 'noise'. Not awful and some of the tracks are good but I don't think this is a 'great' album.

Very solid stadium rock. Anything not high energy kind of flags, but it's not bad.

Good vibe! Nice to work out to, but not something I'm going to be re-listening to.

Muse are a very strange band in my opinion, while they attempt to make these grand art rock tracks (stuff I'm usually a fan of) it all feels a bit corporate and soulless to me. I also think that out of the three Muse albums I've listened to so far this is the weakest one, it's more boring than their last two with fewer tracks that stand out.

I didn’t hate it. Like it the first time through

It feels a little dated.

It’s not of Muse’s best albums but is still good. The one big let down for me is the recording sound quality which is too loud and sounds shouty. It’s music that demands being played loud but when it has been recorded too loud all you want to do is turn it down.

My vibe on Muse has always been if Radiohead had gone deep into prog instead of releasing OK Computer. Matt Bellamy's voice does a lot of the same affectations. The other thing? Muse loves a good, grandiose backdrop. Something that screams high drama even if the song does not. Those big echoing pianos and stomping drums in Starlight, for example, which have no real right to be in what is essentially a love song. Or the noodly synth waves buried in the mix for the pre-chorus. The drop-out of everything as he sings the album title. It's honestly a great song, but the biggest bit is that it feels like it should be. And it succeeds in being what they attempted to create. That doesn't always work: the slant-title song, for example, attempts to be a slinky sexy yearn, but it sounds way too much like, well, prog radiohead trying to be Marvin gaye or something. At most charitable it's an astronomy geek trying to seduce someone while in the background they are thinking of outerspace. There's frequently just a bit of the videogame to them too (imagine speed running a platform game with Map of the Problematique in the background). And of course there's that big big drama on Hoodoo. How could it come to this, indeed. Which is to say that Muse never really feels totally authentic to me, even when they're producing fine songs. It always feels at least a little overwrought, a little bigger than makes any sense for thr song itself. I imagine it's exactly that which makes them huge with some people, but it loses me. It lost me enough that some of these songs were ones i remembered from hearing clips of this on various in-store retail play, but which immediately escaped my brain when it stopped being played. We'll see if it lasts this time. Still, i'd give this a strong 3*. I'm not sure why it is a particularly must hear album, but it's not a hard listen

I like supermasive ass hole or whatever

lowkey peak

This record certainly had me thinking "oh, they do this song...and this one...oh, okay." I understand why this band has such a cult following, though I don't gravitate toward them on that level. The music is rich, bold and engaging. It's theatrical in nature, but very captivating. They cover a range of sounds and moods which certainly keeps the listening entertaining. At moments, they sound like a cross between Queen and Coldplay. I dig this one.

It was okay. Might listen again.

This seems insanely accessible prog music, like Prog for Dummies. Pop Prog? Musically its top notch, various sounds & influences. My disconnect is with the lead singer, he sounds very reminiscent of other singers. Bono, a less annoying Chris Martin & a less wailing Thom Yorke. I would explore this band some more. 3

Why does nobody make music like this anymore. This sound is so distinct i love it

They really like space

Just as cheesy and fun as I remember from college!

Another fairly pedestrian album. Not awful but no compelling reason to listen to it. That said, some of it I quite enjoyed but they don’t seem to have their own sound. There’s a bit of Radiohead, a bit of Queen, a bit of U2….

i’d only known “nights of cydonia” from guitar hero. or rock band. it’s been a minute since playing. anyway, this is a pretty decent album. the only song stuck in my head is “knights”

Look, Muse was the great hope of all fans of Radiohead that someone would pick up where they left off from OK Computer at some point, but Muse got so much attention and airplay that I got annoyed by them really quick. So fast forward 20 years later and I can get it a lot more now. Sure it's big dumb rock, but it's also very prog rock, if a lot more radio friendly. The sound is really amazing, and when they hit a groove, they're phenomenal. But it's all still a little hollow. So good on you, Muse, I'm still not reaching to listen but you definitely grew on me.

Give me a reason for why do we need that many Radiohead from temu on this list.

By the time "Black Holes and Revelations" was released, Muse had reached the commercial peak of their career. By that point, however, I had largely lost interest in the band. A musician friend recommended their debut album, "Showbiz", to me in 1999, and it remains my favourite of their albums to this day. This is contrary to my usual listening habits, as subsequent albums were significantly more progressive, complex and experimental than the debut, but also smoother, more bombastic and more calculated. When I listened to "Black Holes and Revelations" again today, some 20 years on, I was surprised at how much I liked it — at least a few tracks. Perhaps that’s what bothers me: Muse produce either little strokes of genius ("Take a Bow", "Supermassive Black Hole", "Assassin") or complete lead ballons ("Invincible", "Glorious"). They are a good band, but their albums are overrated and lack a clear musical direction, at least on this album. At least not if you consider exuberant vocals, fast tempi and massive intensity with extreme dynamics to be stylistic elements rather than a coherent concept.

music for conspiracy theorists

Muse can feel a bit one-note to me but I like their energy

I'm pretty familiar with Muse and their hits - which there are quite a few on this album - but I haven't ever been a big enough fan to listen to a whole album of theirs. I liked the album, although it was a bit up and down for me. Some of the big rock songs were great, and then there were a few songs that just really fell off. Good album, but I'm not sure it stands out enough to be on the list. There are definitely songs that I will continue to listen to, but I wouldn't add the whole album to my regular rotation.

I went through a big muse phase. I liked this album when it was released, it’s not my favourite but it’s good.

Nicht jeder Song passt. Einige gehen richtig ins Ohr.

Josie- bad hayfever so is a blur Mike- loved it driving music

7/10 Divertido, no me molesto ni paso desapercibido, bastante bien

Phantom of the Opera x alien spaceship. Contrary to their name I don't think that much thought went into this, however it is passable

I don't think this of the best Muse album

Teenage me would have loved this. Current me likes and wants to give it 3.5/5 but you can't do halves here. To me, 3 is "It's good but I probably won't go out of my way to listen to it again", and 4 is "Yes I will listen to this album again", and this probably falls closer the the former - so 3 it is

I would never choose to listen to a Muse album, it was alright.

Space rock for basic people. ¨Black Holes and Revalations¨ is a jam but Muse has always rubbed me the wrong way while being technically good. See U2 2.0.

Väldigt episkt med många extremt bra låtar. Känns fortfarande ibland lite corny dock. Inte lika bra som origin of symmetry. Sämre mot slutet

I had an ex who really liked Starlight but won't hold that against the album. I hear a bunch of Radiohead influence here. It's alright, not sure I'd listen again but I liked it.

Remembered this as better, I think my teenage twilight obsessed emo brain picked up something in this that is not really present to me listening back to it. Their hits still hold up, maybe because I remember them the best and they therefore act as the most powerful vessels for nostalgia. Anyway, I will always enjoy Muse, but this album didn’t do any more than that. Favorites: Supermassive Black Hole, City of Delusion, Knights of Cydonia Rating: 6.4/10

Just when people thought Muse couldn't get any more climactic and epic, they proved everyone right by making a more Pop/Alt Rock project that really dumbed down their overall sound and style so they could become more accessible to fans instead of critics. Don't get me wrong I am not hating on Black Holes and Revelations, but I am being honest, this is a significant step down in overall tone, structure, and sound that I was a bit turned off by but still let pass. It doesn't help this album has hits like Supermassive Black Hole to keep people coming back to this very of its' time release. At least this project is once again an original take on the whole Alt Rock sound Muse is now going for but I really wish we got yet another existential album like Absolution instead of this wanna-be Pop album. It is solid but once again underwhelming in terms of how much I hear about this. All in all for my quick Muse dive I found them to be extremely overrated and not much better than your average Rock band, they just so happened to get lucky and make a few hits that's all....

Muse has such a formula to their songwriting. You can always tell where they're going to go with what they're doing..... I think the biggest issue for me is their songwriting, especially the rhythms of their vocal melodies. Every verse and chorus seems to be exactly the same - every note gets at least a half-note, many stretch of more than measure. It gets kinda tiring. Songs from this album would fit perfectly into a mix, but an entire album just isn't that fun to listen to. It's a generous - THREE STARS

I never got into Muse, this didn't change with this Album.

[album #8] i used to listen to this a bunch in middle school. i think it is pretty decent pop-heavy-rock ? and has some good tracks, but overall is too long and i think takes itself very seriously for what it is. i did have fun listening to a chunk of it, but i did drag in a lot of places. Strong start and then a pretty good end. A lot of these songs feel like things you listen to while working out. Very dramatic, “epic,” over the top, rock opera-y, which is fine if you like that but not super my thing these days. Starlight, supermassive black hole (duh), map of the problematique, and Knights of Cydonia are my standout tracks. 2.5 or 3/5 for me.

pretty fun invincible é um pouco insu though

21st Century Queen

I’ve never really warmed to Muse for some reason. I have to say I did like a couple of the album tracks here but overall I found my listening pleasure decrease with each listen. Which is odd as usually it’s the other way round. Which I’m guessing tells me all I need to know about this and that I probably won’t be seeking too many relistens in the near future.

Twilight baseball scene song detected! Catchy and fairly fun to listen to; I am not above a fuzzy, hooky alt-rock song. What keeps this from tipping over into truly great to me is a how polished and considered it feels. Almost every song sounds labored over and almost calculated. It starts to eat its own tail. Pop songs that are self-conscious about being pop songs and try too hard to swerve. That being said, the closing track “Knights of Cydonia” has some real ambition to it. I wonder what this album would’ve been if it leaned harder into that kind of proggy, sprawling-but-explosive approach. I like Bellamy’s voice, but sometimes he sounds too much like Thom Yorke, which makes me wish I was listening to ‘The Bends’ or something.

I love when an album takes it's title from a random line in one of their songs. I've seen Muse live before and they are good but for some reason it doesn't translate for me when listening to it. I will always here 'ooh a sip of soda' during Supermassive Black Hole. My friend who is a huge Muse fan said this wasn't his favorite but still good. They played quite a bit of this live. I think it's a solid 3 album.

Sonically fantastic but lyrically there are some noticeable low points that drags this one down a bit.

Did we all just collectively forget about Muse? I feel like they were poised to just be the next great British rock band and take over the world and then they just fell off a cliff after this album. This album is pretty good! ROCK MUSIC!!! 🤘🤘🤘

Oh yeah, no I'm not listening this. Which is nothing against the album, which I remember liking. It just featured prominently in a time of my life I don't wish to dwell on.

This was cool, take a bow incorporating electronic elements was very interesting

The second half of the album gets a bit repetitive at times, but a good rock opera overall.

Muse are a band whose ambition is impossible to question and whose maximalism is an acquired taste. Black Holes and Revelations is their most accessible record, which is a relative term — this is still a grandiose, apocalyptic, stadium-filling statement about government conspiracy and environmental collapse delivered with complete conviction and considerable technical firepower. The record takes a few tracks to find its footing. When “Supermassive Black Hole” arrives at track three it’s a genuine surprise — a funk-influenced, Prince-adjacent groove that sounds unlike anything else in their catalog and briefly suggests a different and more interesting version of this album might have been possible. It’s the moment where the production steps back from bombast into something more physical and alive. Then the maximalism reasserts itself, and the middle stretch settles into capable but unremarkable territory. The unexpected highlight arrives in “Soldier’s Poem” — a quiet, hymn-like a cappella piece that opens a window in the middle of all the grand gesturing. When Muse stops being Muse for three minutes and just sings, something genuinely human comes through. That it’s the most affecting moment on the record says something about where the emotional center actually lives versus where the band thinks it does. The back half offers “Hoodoo” and “Knights of Cydonia” — the latter with actual horns, a welcome addition — as genuine bright spots. Not enough to push it to four, but enough to keep it as an honest three rather than a charitable one.

Hearing Knights of Cydonia for the first time is a cannon event for the millennial man. Starlight and Supermassive Black Hole are also great songs. But unfortunately, the rest of the songs on this record don't stand up.

A savvy mix of Radiohead, the Killers, some Nine Inch Nails, and Coldplay. There's some prog rock thrown in there too for good measure. I've never listened to Muse outside of what I played on Guitar Hero, I think it was "Knights of Cydonia," and "Starlight," which I had no idea was Muse but have heard a bunch of times in the wild of course.

Is Muse good? That’s an interesting question. I liked this album a lot when it came out but haven’t listened to it since. On one hand, yes, it’s good. But it struck me that Muse might be like Imagine Dragons or Coldplay with better marketing. They’re still just a rock band that got too big, that they’re a little lame, but a certain group of guys will always like them.

Twilight base ball

There are 3 or 4 songs I can't resist on here, but Muse is not an album band for me.

Liked the singles from this album (Starlight, Supermassive Black Hole), also loved Map of the Problematique. The strings on City of Delusion were cool. The rest were meh or whiny and grated on me. (3)

Some of the songs on this album are such bangers, others are kind of repetitive

His voice is annoying and this whole album reminds me of Twilight not only because of the baseball scene but the author was obsessed with Muse

Good solid album

like yesterday's American Idiot, Black Holes and Revelations is the sound of a band branching out. Muse had gotten pretty huge off the alt-rock sound they forged on their previous two records, and thus they saw fit to extend it in multiple directions. you've got pop-forward cuts that were chart-ready in 2006 ("Supermassive Black Hole") alongside some of the group's most cutting-edge material, complete with orchestral overdubs and a ton of nice-sounding synth layers, all topped with Matt Bellamy's strong lead vocals (even if he comes much too close to aping Thom Yorke for my liking a lot of the time). I can absolutely see the appeal with Black Holes; the production is fantastic, the band sounds great (the guitar tones are superb), and there's a few truly brilliant cuts on here. (the opening four tracks are arguably the strongest, but "Knights of Cydonia" is a tremendous closer.) the middle suffers in comparison; even as these tracks all have distinct sonic identities, I feel a bit underwhelmed by the compositions themselves. strong 6/10.

I never listened to Muse, but, as a distant observer, all the discussion about their rise and fall over the years has been an amusing read. This was a decent listen. A couple of very good tracks, but the whole thing is uneven and, while I appreciate the sentiment, the commentary is poorly written and superficial. It's a very smooth and polished album, yet jam-packed with millions of bells and whistles, which works in its favour in a couple of instances, but many tracks also end up sounding a bit sterile. This is more of a problem later on, with a couple of songs just merging inside my head into one big, empty crescendo. I'll explore more of their music sometime in the future. I heard the most praise for Origin of Symmetry so I'll give that one a listen soon. I doubt I'm going anywhere near anything they made after this album, though. Favourite track: Map of the Problematique

Energy

Had a lot of fun moments, still a bit basic troubled white boy vibe

Some pretty good songs but couldn’t get over the twilight one

Like a 6.7/10

Very Coldplay and alternative listening like. Some songs where decent for the work vibe others I was enjoying but getting sleepy

First song was a little weird, but also liked it. Overall I liked more songs than I didn’t - but a lot of their songs sound alike.

Weird but kinda liked it. Spacey. Desert rockish. Drums on some of the early tracks stood out to me. Never cared much for Muse before this but I was sorta surprised. That said, not sure it was memorable enough to come back to and give another listen

Used to love this album when it came out. I over played it and now I think Matt Bellamys voice is just too clean for my taste 19/20 years later. It's a savage guitar album though.

This in turns sounded like Radiohead and Coldplay and Queen and Depeche Mode. I like the second two of those and dislike the first two, so this was not the album for me. After three listens, I didn’t hate it but I did not enjoy it.

I don't dislike this album. However I only have so much room for storage and analysis of Radiohead sound-alike bands in my brain. As a Canadian, the CRTC has already allocated that space to Rufus Wainwright. Don't blame me, blame the nanny-state.

Some great tunes

Loved it at the time, less enthusiastic now but still a few good tunes and their last half decent album before they went to shit.

I always thought this album was a little too poppy but I still enjoyed it. It was definitely the start of the decline of Muse.

Radiohead for people with no attention span.

Decent Indie rock. No memorable aongs

Really wanted to hate on this one but it wasn't that bad. Kinda like someone made pop rock Radiohead + queens of the stone age. I high key could not tell any of the songs apart.

Radiohead if instead of writing weird time signatures and scaring women they ran a meth empire

Didn`t like it. A little too deep.

Yeah it's fine. Knight of Cydonia was fun when I heard it for the first time on Guitar Hero 3. They're basically covering the same ground as Radiohead from OK Computer to Amnesiac. It's fine, but I'd rather just be listening to Radiohead.

2.75 - Highschool me would've LOVED this. Me now can understand the fun but it's not something I'd pick to listen to. Fav Songs: Starlight // Supermassive Black Hole // Knights of Cydonia (FOREVER SOOOOOO GOOD, form Guitar Hero)

Nothing offense, nothing too memorable.

Some good songs on this one

supermassive black hole bumps the ranking of this up all on its own i like that every song in it has a little funky beat or guitar solo that shows up as a surprise near the latter half of the song. im giving it a 72/100. good sound, better than average, not an album i'll have on repeat but still with dun and impressiv moments throughout

Lowkey Geese if u close ur eyes

Like a heavier Radiohead. It might have appealed to me as a teenager, not so much now.

This album- this as- are great and I see why people love them so much. Unfortunately this is wrong timeline for me personally ti fall in luv

Weird to review. They have a sound that comes off more produced than performed. It's almost alternative rock meets some electronic meets almost a bit of glam. The sound isn't bad and it is catchy but it feels like it's trying to come off grand and in that process loses something more connecting to listen to. 900 odd albums in and I'm coming off fully pretentious at this point. This isn't a bad album. I can see why this got radio play.

This is one of those ones that has the ingredients, but the production hurts it. It's over compressed and flat sounding. Despite the sound quality, there are some interesting compositions.

Fifa soundtrack

It's fun rock and roll. Most of this album sounds like that one Guitar Hero song that I know (which is not necessarily a bad thing).

Not quite as dramatic as I was expecting, though plenty dramatic as is. Pretty fun listen, I like some of the soundscapes created and found much of the composition interesting and engaging. Not boring for sure, though Starlight and Supermassive Black Hole are the hits for a reason in my humble opinion.

Unfortunately, I am prejudiced against Muse from past associations. No fault of the band, of course, but it does colour my response to them. Sonically it’s pretty decent overall, although I do find Matt Bellamy’s vocals to be overwrought and histrionic a lot of the time, and they don’t fully escape the ‘poor man’s Radiohead’ label. That said, the opening trio of ‘Take a Bow’, ‘Starlight’ and ‘Supermassive Black Hole’ is very good indeed. The album does lose a bit of steam as it goes on, but finishes strongly with ‘Knights of Cydonia’. Not quite enough for 4 stars though.

Want to be radiohead so bad

Listened to this a bunch in high school before I ever heard OK Computer. Looking back on it, is like if a butt rock group had been tasked with making a version of OK Computer. It’s an absurd premise but it’s really quite pleasurable to listen to, and found myself surprised at how much I actually liked it. I especially liked the drums.

Solid album supermassive black hole is a banger

I was hoping I’d enjoy it cause there are Muse songs I really like, but eh

We're playing starlight in orchestra lmao. Not much of a muse fan, but like, I kinda get it

This first song kind of sounds like Radiohead. It's making me want to listen to Radiohead. I like the way he says starlight. Steeyarrrlight. Oh em gee he said black holes and revelations! That's the album name! I LOVE SUPERMASSIVE BLACK HOLE. I LOVE TWILIGHT. I'M PLAYING BASEBALL WITH THE CULLENS IN MY MIND RN. I already really liked this song even before I had watched twilight, but I think the baseball-thunderstorm scene made me like it so much better. To be honest I feel like supermassive black hole is gonna be the only really good or unique song on this album. Let's see if time proves my point. Gang, "Map of the problematique" is kinda giving coldplay or trashy 2000s/2010s pop band. Not trashy as in Ayesha Erotica type trashy, more like what the hell is this corporate machine slop.

Okay.. kind of repetitive. Cool instrumentals but the singing style seems to be the same for every song. Tracks 2 and 3 I knew but everything else was new.

(Super)Massive sound with the depth of a sheet of paper. Don't think I've ever actually sat through a whole Muse album previously (maybe their debut?), but it confirms a lot of what I expected. Supermassive Black Hole and Knights of Cydonia are pretty strong though.

supermassive black hole reminds me of twilight, haven't listened to their other songs. like but don't love

Everyone knows supermassive black hole but outside of that ... This record is a bit of a mess. Instead of being a masterful blend of genres, it just sounds messy and like a less interesting version of Radiohead

Pensava que ia gostar mais do álbum. Não tem tanta emoção quanto esperava. Um estéril com exceção de algumas músicas. Fui reouvir e gostei mais. É um 7/10 Músicas que se destacam: Supermassive Black Hole, City of Delusion, Knights of Cydonia

Healthy dose of nostalgia on this one, despite not being able to name more than 1-2 songs. The “worse Radiohead” comp is probably unfair despite the similarities. Yeah they’re dorky but there’s a particular accessibility to their sound and some pop sensibility’s deeply scratched. All that being said, I was very ready for it to be over. RYM: N Saved a song: N

Bombastic alternative rock and space-pop built on distorted guitars, synth layers, driving bass, and soaring, dramatic vocals surges with cinematic ambition. Listening feels like being pulled through a glossy sci-fi epic where every moment reaches for grandeur and spectacle. The result is powerful and entertaining, though its excess feels overblown.

Loved some of it and then just found some very average

This took me back. Muse were probably the best stadium rock band at that time

Nostalgic. Has a few bangers to start the album but then lulls in the middle. As an album, I prefer Absolution but this still hits from time to time.

3/5. Muse gets a bit too much hate these days I think, which to be fair the band is not helping as they have been a parody of themselves for the past 15 or so years. But some of the early albums like Origin of Symmetry or Absolution are still great. As for Black Holes and Revelations, it starts really strong. The run from “Take a Bow” to “Map of the Problematique” is some good, dramatic stuff. But then it goes into a pretty flabby middle section. It slowly picks back up towards the end till “Knights of Cydonia” which is one of Muse’s best songs and super fun to play on guitar. On this listen I found myself also not being the biggest fan of the lyrics on here, often they’re okay but there’s some moments like on “city of delusion” that sound like they’re from the first draft of a Y.A. Dystopia novel. I never really buy into the dystopian future that is trying to be portrayed. but the strong start and finish on this album make it a good, worthwhile listen.

They’re not bad, I just can’t get into them

Muse, such a good band, I enjoy their stuff. The music is great, the lyrics are fun, yet they are very mid. It's got no soul. I will listen to them, don't get me wrong. They are top notch with a lot of dramatic flair, but it just doesn't feel like anything. Like AC/DC is dirty and fun, Van Helen is a great with amazing guitar work. Metallica is fast and hard and will whip some lyrics at you. This just doesn't feel the same. It's got the flair, and talent but it's missing something. Worth listening to, but it won't stick with you.

Love muse! This isn't my favourite of theirs, but it has some incredible tunes. This was the last record before they headed a bit too far down the over the top pop road IMO

RYM 3.0

Some great songs but also some slower ballads that weren't for me 5/12 liked

Absolution is a far superior record. I don't see the big deal. It's fine.

city of delusion weirdly sounds like a song you could salsa to! glorius is my favourite track, the start sounds like a video game with character. take a bow sounds like mamma mia in stranger things. starlight sounds like meadow. supermassive sounds like a tamil hero is walking in with a gun. invincible sounds like take me home.

really tried but not my fav

first song is a great song lots of fun. great opener damn. Also album cover is pretty iconic why do all the songs sound the same? I read a review about Muse sounding too polished and oh yea that is the right description for this. It is almost Coldplay-esque BUT rock. Really tho its kinda crazy. Supermassive blackhole is by far the best song on the album full stop. Starlight is fun as well, apart from that......

It's fascinating that those riffs and music would be really heavy if some other band would play them

Good album. Knew the hits and have listened to them alot when I was yonger. I liked the sound of the album and usage of synths and piano. But overall the whole album still left me wanting something more. Best song was Knights of Cydonia.

Many songs on this album are predictable chord progressions with dirty synth arpeggios and diverse earcandy. Then every so often something hits you - an ethereal ballad or a blistering bassline (open string hammer-on stylee a la Muse), and keeps you listening. A solid 3

crying. wall of sound. meh.

OK, not their best

Its decent Never been a huge muse fan outside of the song madness, but ive given this one and origin a go over the years. Its all fairly decent

Eh I don't really have much to say about this album. A few good songs, but mostly ok. Not really my thing, even though it seems like it would be. 3/5 for sure.

Pretty good. Really liked the brief “Soldier’s Poem”, and in general that middle section of tracks that moved along steadily

- olen vanha muse enjoyer, tälläkin levyllä on muutamia ennakkoon tuttuja ja hyviä stygejä - vanhemmiten muse on alkanut kyllä kuulostamaan vähän kädenlämpöiseltä ja sitä se pikkasen meinaa olla edelleen - knights of cydonia meni helposti joskus ihan lempibiisien joukkoon, on edelleen hywä - on hyvä levy, kolmonen arvosanana vähän raaka mutta ei tää aivan nelosenkaan kokonaisuus ole

It is OK. Did not strike me as amazing, but not bad either. just meh.

funny twilight song

Favourite: Starlight

I’ve never really cared for muse and this album didn’t change my mind. It’s not bad at all, but I don’t think I’d come back to it

Alright, most songs are really slow, but I like the song knights of cydonia.

Was almost tempted to not listen to this album. As a teenager, I played it until it was fucked. Had a girlfriend who loved Muse and introduced me and, admittedly, I don't think I've listened to this album since that time. That was some 18-20 years ago at time of writing... fuck. Straight away, "Take a Bow" just sets the chop up between the spacey/mysterious vibe and hard rock making for something of a modern psychedelic rock. "Starlight", in some ways, continues this trend but with a more accessible set of lyrics. ...I've done myself a mischief I realise by reading the other reviews before listening to this album in full again... I almost feel bad for still enjoying some of it, but shouldn't really. "Map of the Problematique" with it's robotic guitar and accentuating piano still tickles my brain... I love it. Same with the aggressive guitar chords and chaotic drums at the start of "Assassin" and metal-centric chords that come shortly after. That being said, I don't love it as much as I used to. Tracks like Starlight and "Invincible" have that 'lowest common denominator' feel to them that I've never liked in any music; intentionally recorded to be ripped on the radio constantly. "Exo-Politics" also felt kind of generic and flat, as did "City of Delusion". I'm taking Map, Assassin and Knights (still fun as all heck) with me... the rest is moot now.

Another great Muse album. ‘Super Massive Black Hole’ is a great track not only because of the twilight soundtrack but the moody atmosphere it portrays. I really enjoyed ‘Starlight’ and ‘City of Delousion’ Rating is 3.5/5 - GEMV (23.02.2026)

High-octane arena rock, but the singer seems to be channeling the wrong Thom Yorke, like, We Suck Young Blood instead of Paranoid Android. Lots of neat production choices in each individual song, but the overall effect gets exhausting.

Honestly pretty cool.

Energy dropped off in the second half

Music that makes one feel anxious about a vague but powerful force that is coming for us all, but also fills them with the inspiration they need to defeat them. Every song is cinematic and sounds like it could be included in a movie soundtrack. Knights of Cydonia kicks ass

the twilight song HAHA

Exactly the kind of album to start off the 1001 with. I was really getting into music in 2006 but I was only ever vaguely aware of this band until now. I definitely recognize their singles; the kind of thing that would appear in the same playlists as the Killers or Radiohead. The stylistic range of the album is certainly impressive, though I wouldn’t put it in the top thousand of all time. Probably top thousand of the year it was released. I’ll be sure to check out more of Muse’s back catalog.

not my type of music, didn't finish the last 4 tracks

8/10 Ya lo he escuchado. Buenísimo. Knights of Cydonia un clásico.

i always felt like knights of cydonia should be like a coheed and cambria type thing with lore and a comic book... i mean maybe it is i haven't looked into it lol this album sends me right back to being on the swim team in highschool song i went back to first after first full listen: starlight

It's good but not great. Some songs are really good others are not my style.

Solid. Would give it 3.5 if I could

I like their 2004 album far better.

Like it 3/5

Definitely a different sound to what i used to listen too, but i fw with the upbeat and energitic sound like the second song, wasn;t really fucking with hard rock though but overall a solid album.

This was okay. Not groundbreaking for me, but it made good background music.

I hadn't heard of this band before, but it was an interesting mix of numerous genre influences, all wrapped in an angsty rock-n-roll shell. I don't know who they were referencing vs who they referenced, but I can see why one of the first bands to follow in the auto-play afterwards was The Killers. A surprising and enjoyable listen! - Heard before? Hadn't even heard of the band before. - Will I listen again? Maybe. But I'll definitely remember them now. - Does it inspire me to listen to more of this artist? Maybe.

Pretty decent 6/10 for right now
