Reviews (page 11 of 14)

The first track was great, and some of the others were good. Overall enjoyed the sound. Not quite a 4 but debated it.

It was good I personally liked two songs of it but the rest of the album it wasn't for me, but I liked it tho it reminds me of my sister she's more into this kind of music so I recommended her the album

i’ve heard of this! new to me though, haven’t made my way to it yet. given its reputation, i thought i would like this more. it just sounds like a white girl found motown. i really liked the instrumental at the end of so far away. it’s pretty. but i feel like for a singer/songwriter album, the lyrics are a little shallow? they’re very basic songs.

Sounds like my grandma. Charming but sometimes boring.

Though this kind of music is failry new to me and maybe not exactly my type, definitely an enjoyable album. Warm lyrics, simple music that goes together wth the lyrics. A nice listen overall, maybe not as per my taste. 7/10.

i feel the earth move is new hyperfix lmao. a hard 6/10

was good

bonus points for the gilmore girls intro

pretty good, not my cup o tea. i liked its too late and youve got a friend

I mean great album, good vocals and lyrics, not much to say Cover : It's ok

I like how cohesive the album is. I enjoy the songs and their melodies. Got sorta boring towards the end, but maybe that had something to do with my homework.

2.8 It's pretty dull. It's fine, it's not offensive, I'm not clamouring to turn it off, I'm just waiting for it to finally end so I can move on with my day.

I've heard most of these songs, back in the 1970's, in the car with mom while running errands. Carole King was quite the prolific songwriter, and these songs are nostalgic for me. Just good quality singer/songwriter stuff, and she's got a great voice. Plus, the album cover has a kitty on it. 🐈‍⬛

3.5. Muscialmente bonito, no me fascina el folk

Good album. She is a good singer.

Pleasant little album with some great surprises

lots of hits here, but this trended too easy listening to get 4 in my book.

I feel like I should have appreciated this more.

I knew I Feel the Earth Move, It's Too Late, You've Got a Friend, Will You Love Me Tomorrow?, and (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman. I also, of course, knew Where You Lead because it's the theme song to Gilmore Girls. This was pleasant. I think Carole King is a very good songwriter, but she isn't my favorite singer.

It’s a quite fresh one in 1971. But it’s so bland and doesn’t meet my tastes

Honestly, I’ve heard stronger albums from that whole Laurel Canyon-adjacent scene than this. 𝘛𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘺 has a warm, intimate feel, and the songwriting is clearly there, but it doesn’t quite live up to its reputation for me. A lot of it starts to blur together over time. Carole King feels more like a songwriter stepping into the spotlight than a fully compelling performer, which gives the album a certain sincerity, but also makes it less distinctive. Still a good record, just not one I’d return to often.

Her biggest record, this is the one that launched her into a songwriting career. The songs, as expected, are really strong. Her singing is good. But there are just too many piano-driven pop songs for me. It's very good, of course, but I'll likely never revisit it.

Enjoyable and some classics.

Her voice is really good and there is some really good songwriting here. I can imagine there's a lot more appeal to someone else rather than me. Enjoyable.

music to clean the house to on a warm spring day

Good singing and nice music.

was okay i guess

Ok album, just not my cup of tea lol

If I could drive I would probably enjoy driving to this

Great voice and loved the album cover! Good album!

bien pero ahí

I sincerely wish I enjoyed this album the same way that the majority of the website does. It was fine, and I can for sure see why it's considered one of the greatest albums of all time. But it's just not for me. It's too light, entirely too boring and repetitive, and only 2 of the songs really grabbed me in a meaningful way. Those songs are "I Feel the Earth Move" and "It's Too Late". I thought they were very catchy, and I wish the rest of the album was like that. I do love her voice, it's calm, motherly, and puts me at peace. If I was going to rank this on an objective level, it's a 5. However, I just can't listen to something like this all day. Noted, I know I'm not the targeted audience necessarily, but that isn't a valid reason to not enjoy something anyway. The voice is great, the compositions are all great, I love the 2 previously mentioned songs, but I don't love love anything, and the rest of the album is pretty much in one ear and out the other for me. Again, it's nice enough, and I recognize it's greatness, but for an album with this many accolades, I was expecting a bit more variety. Sure, she sounds great, but I can't really tell some of the songs apart. There's a lot of filler. To the albums credit, the bits of smooth Jazz and piano are pretty great. I think if I was on a bad streak of albums I might give this a 4, but I've rolled some absolute heat lately and unfortunately this one just didn't do it for me like I was hoping it would. Again, and I can not stress this enough, this is a 5 star album. It is excellently made, and Carole does a phenomenal job here. But, and this is a big but, I wouldn't personally want to return to it. My scale for judgement uses a personal rating, not an objective rating, so I'm going to give this one a 3.65/5 and call it a day. Going in circles at this point, but I'll wrap it up once again by saying it's a great album, and I love everything about it, I just don't love love it. Anyway, on to the weekend album. Wish I had more to say about this one other than "Good vocals, great and catchy instrumentation", but I really don't. I've done so many reviews like that at this point, and it's not always easy to be unique for these reviews. This is one of those times, it just didn't grab me and draw me in unfortunately. That's fine though, I see how good it is, even if it's not personally always going to be what I'd turn on. I'm still happy that I got the chance to appreciate this today. That's a lot more than I can say about plenty of the other albums I've rolled so far for this long project. Anyway, the journey continues with the weekend album. That's enough of this one for now.

Theme from gilmore girls So many classic songs, you make me feel, will you love me tomorrow, you've got a friend Wonderful voice. Beautiful piano

nice!!!

out of all the laurel canyon biggies, joni is the one who has my ears, but this is rightly praised for its strong songwriting. musically, it is okay but borders on too light for my tastes. i do like king's keyboard work across the album as well as charles larkey's bass work

Really good singing. Just not my cup of tea, although “Where you lead” is a good song.

This album started off with some heavy hitters but quickly faded into so many of the singer songwriter albums on this list, boring ballad after boring ballad with nice vocals layered over a few chords. Parts were enjoyable but a lot of it was pretty forgettable.

the first track was really good

↑: I Feel the Earth Move, It's Too Late, Beautiful, Where You Lead ↓: (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman

Loved it!

Like Beatles balads, but with a female singer.

I wanted to love this one more! I'm sorry future me when you listen to this one again and you're mad at me. 3 1/2

some lovely songs on here

Can appreciate how good a song writer Carole King was but I found this album a little insipid, it’s seems like subsequent covers of her originals always popped more. Well written, well sung, well played but it didn’t really hit the way it maybe should have 2.9

Vibey nok men med fare for at blive kedeligt

3/5 - Solid throughout but just not my thing

it was ok. a nice album for background music. idk if i'm actually going to listen to it just because i want to listen to a song again. favorite song is the first song of the album, called "I feel the Earth Move." i really liked the song called "it's too late". nice jazzy vibes. "where you lead" is the Gilmore girls song <3 this album had really famous songs that i didn't know that they were from this album

A classic. So many well known songs on here.

Had potential, but not a fan of when she got extra folky

It is a bittersweet album, with lovely vocals and soft undertones throughout. Although I understand the hype behind this album, I have never been the type who really connects to singer-songwriter albums.

I found it kinda similar to fleetwood Mac. It has a country indie vibe I guess.... I'm not the best with genres, but I guess for me it's more of a chill sunday afternoon by the countryside kinda vibe. Although I didn't like it that much, I did find one song quite nice, it was "I feel the earth move". It's the first song in the album.

Decent

Because I am so far behind, I listen to this just after Lana Del Rey. The first song say welcome change of mood. Enjoy the beginning of the album, but it seemed to taper off a little bit for me.

Tapestry is an appropriate title for an album that yielded several familiar songs that are undeniably woven into the tapestry of American pop music history. Though they've aged well, these songs just don't quite hit as hard as I imagine they may have when released 55 years ago.

such beautiful words and melody

Sounds like some classic 70s folk. Just some normal vocals, piano, simple drums and guitar. I don't like it or dislike it. It's just some standard music to me. 3 stars I think.

Ganske chill.

Pretty big fan of this album. Nice and relaxing to listen to.

I can understand the appeal here, but I find thing kind of music kind of boring.

didn't realize 2 songs I knew of were on this album! Wonderful listen.

The style isn’t my taste, but I appreciate the excellent songwriting

I enjoyed the mellow vocals a lot. It started off strong with a solid production. One element that was especially cool was the subtle elements across the songs. For example the great guitar licks that filled certain gaps. They weren't in the spotlight but really elevated some songs by making them more layered. Unfortunately, I felt that the album starts to drag in the second part. There is a very good album here but it is also padded and the themes can get repetitive. My favorite songs are "I Feel The Earth Move" and "Way Over Yonder". The trumpets on the latter were especially great.

very fun!! groovy!

Her voice is almost Maria Carrey coded?? The music is quite pleasant but damn why is old music with lyrics like these so repetitive? They say some lines like 40 times a song.

A solid 3.5

A few good ones I suppose. I Feel The Earth Move is a classic.

i saw someone mention that this list is really lacking female artists which really disappointed me, seeing as i'm only on day 2 and was hoping to use this generator to get some variety in my music taste rather than just listening to neil young about 20 times. anyway, this album was great, much more my style than yesterday's album (although its still not the heavy guitar music i'm used to). it had a sense of the countryside to it that brought a lot of comfort. i wish i had more to say, especially for a female artist on this list, but i just liked it - not much more than that!

Not my thing.

Much more upbeat and soulful than I thought. I was expecting something more soft spoken, stripped down, and emotional. This has a nice groove to it with fun vocals. Still, with that said, nothing stood out to me.

It's good background music but I probably wouldn't listen to it on its own. I enjoy "I feel the earth move" because it's unique but the others were more ballads

love the calm it breathes under sentimental chaos. At second listen found it too calm to my taste.

Really respectable album but I couldn't really get into it as much as id have liked. Still good though.

Still, Carole King? More like Carol QUEEN! Slay mama 💅

charmant et sans artifice in a way only a few can pull off (on parlera pas de Smackwater Jack), but not really #mythang. vraiment gênant que je sache pas qui c'était avant hier. chanson préférée : It's Too Late mention honorable : le chat sur le cover (il s'appelle Telemachus btw. if you even care.)

aight. girl talk sample was cool

Average album gets average score.

Growing up, my dad listened to a lot of James Taylor, so I've heard his version of You've Got a Friend dozens of times, but until today, I didn't realize his version was actually a cover. I'm not sure if it's just the nostalgia, but I think I prefer James Taylor's cover over the original. Overall, this was still enjoyable. It's an easy listening, 70s pop album. She's got a soulful voice and the piano is well played. I've got nothing bad to say about it, but it didn't exactly blow me away either.

A lot of folk and soft rock from the 70s feels very easy to pinpoint as being from that decade, but this feels much more timeless. The emphasis on piano and beautiful production makes everything feel crisp and clear. King's lyrics are vivid and her voice very good. The album's big weakness is that it's full of the kind of strong songwriting that produced ten or so songs that are all cut from the same cloth rather than songwriting that produced surprises. All the variety is in subtle differences in melody or lyrics, which makes a song like the opener a welcome change of pace. That opener, "It's Too Late," and the title track are probably the strongest songs, but even they are just very good. If King's voice was more impressive it could maybe carry the songs farther. But instead this album tops out at being a pleasant one that's worth a listen but is wanting of really impressive moments.

This was a decent, enjoyable enough listen. The obvious draw is Carole King's soulful, immaculate vocal performance throughout the album, however at varying points it did feel as though her voice was doing the heavy lifting to carry the songs through to the end. The arrangements here are very pleasant, and some of the more reflective balladeering songs manage to conjure up a spectacular mood, but overall the album is perhaps a bit too uncomplicated to truly ignite my interest. Love the cat on the cover, though.

220/1089 starting off strong for me. So Far Away is really reminding me of Weyes Blood’s And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow don’t think i’ve ever heard her version of You’ve Got A Friend but it’s really beautiful (as expected) the way the strings and piano etc build for the second chorus is so lovely and then there’s the Gilmore Girls theme ahhh this is a solid album of classics faves: I Feel The Earth Move, So Far Away, Where You Lead, You’ve Got A Friend 65/100

It's too late me gustó

mehhh….

Great compilation!

really liked tapestry everything else not so much

This was very enjoyable. Great singing and nice music, although a bit corny at times.

erstaunlich viel altbekanntes dabei

It's too late is my favorite track.

Again another album I think I will love more with age but for now was just kind of okay.

3.5 Classic comfort music

The singer-songwriter/folk/soft rock/songs about feelings things is just not for me. Bonus star for the kitty on the album cover.

1. I didn’t know Carole King was white. 2. Who knew there could be 44 minutes of the same themes/sentiments of how good of a friend she is.

Classic and great song writer but tunes don't slap me hard enough

These songs are about as middle-of-the-road 1970s as you can get--which, let's be clear, I am not saying is a bad thing.

This album was pretty solid. My favorite songs are It's Too Late, You've Got A Friend, and (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman. The rest of the songs didn't really click for me since i'm more of a pop listener.

Average album that has good instrumentals and vocals. Nothing special

Listened Before?: Partially! I knew I Feel the Earth Move, It's Too Late, and You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman Pros: I saw another reviewer point out how this 1001 albums list is severely lacking in entries from women. While this album isn't my personal favorite, Carole is an icon, and this album is a testament to that. While I found the album kind of sonically boring, Carole's songwriting definitely shines. Cons: Not an album/genre I'd personally usually reach for, dragged on in parts Songs Added to Playlist: It's Too Late

Easy listening, on the verge of being great

Few bangers, but mostly zoned it out.

It's a great album. Like so many other brillant artists of that time, her originality now seems cliche, probably because she influenced a generation of artists.

General thoughts: On first listen, I clearly recognized some of the songs. A quick wiki search returns a genre I didn't know - 'Brill Building' - where songwriters created material for girl groups during the 60s. That explains a lot, well-written songs with catchy melodies. Tailored to be commercial hits, and that's not bad. This made it hard to rate tough, given the inherent comparison between this and their more known versions. Another hard thing to oversee was the light and unpolished production; it's very loose, like a nice demo of a good song. Everything else is very cool: the lyrics, arrangements, and instrumentation. She's clearly accompanied by talented musicians. Her voice is also nice, engulfing, and distant from the usual female voices of today. Throughout the album, her voice is dead-center, all the way up, which helps convey this personal and private feeling. The lyrics are good, but usually very commercial 60's, indicative of her profession, with flashes of genius like, for example, the title track ‘Tapestry’. With this, I circle back to the beginning. This is a collection of pop singles. Judged as a songwritter its a great showcase of expertise; as an artist-performer, it seems a bit like wasted potential of making something truly your own. Outstanding song(s): Tapestry Weakest song(s): Way Over Yonder, Will You Love Me Tomorrow? Cover: Folky. Fitting for writer-songwriter. Liked the cat in front. Real rating: 3.45

Like upbeat piano love songs with a solo singer. It's fine background listening music but probably wouldn't buy the album.

I recognize most of these songs, but I don’t really love any of them. They’re not bad, and Carole King is a talent, but maybe this era of songwriting is just not for me. All of these songs remind me of riding around with my parents in the hot, A/C-less station wagon with the radio on to random radio stations where I heard a lot of these songs as a kid. I guess I don’t hate the record or anything, but these songs don’t evoke much out of me except for that memory. I dunno, she’s soulful I guess, and folks seem to love this record, but it’s a hard 3/5 for me. I do like the inclusion of the cat on the cover though. 3/5

Tapestry also known as an album of hits. I have heard every song before but never as an album. Vet good although I prefer contemporaries like Joni Mitchell.

Listenable.

My favorite type of album - not my genre, an album I never would have listened to, but absolute perfection. I'll never listen again but it was straight bangers and she should have changed her name to Carole Queen

Knew the first song from a commercial. Fine overall.

Good background music, some really good songs, a classic

Was just okay!

I hadn't intentionally listened to any Carole King before but I can see why this was her most successful album. A lot of enduring hits. It feels really informed by The Band and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, to take nothing away from Carole.

4/5 Nice album... lovely ballads and lyrics that make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. The album does become very one note after a while, though. But I still appreciate the lyricism a lot. I enjoyed it.

// fin den, men setter ikke særlig spor høydepunkt it's too late

When I popped this album on for whatever reason my queue didn’t clear, so following the opening song I thought I was hearing a legendary trap sample, as it turns out it was just Piss on Your Grave by Travis Scott featuring Kanye West. I continued on with Tapestry, pretty good

Beautiful

6 Carole sings to me

το άκουσα ευχάριστα σίγουρα, αλλά μάλλον δεν θα επιδίωκα να το ξανακούσω. fav tracks: it's too late / smackwater jack //κατάλαβα αργότερα ότι το τελευταίο κομμάτι (You make me feel like) A Natural Woman το ξέρω από την ερμηνεία της Aretha Franklin, την οποία και προτιμώ

Oh, she's the one who sang "I feel the Earth move under my feet"! That's a good one. Also "You make me feel like a woman"

It had one really good song, where you ead, the rest were ok.

I liked this record. I had no idea that Carole King co-wrote Will You Love Me Tomorrow; I assumed it was a cover since I'm more familiar with the Shirelles version. 3/5

Great I am a new fan of Carole King! She reminds me of Janis Joplin

Sehr schön entspannt und doch spannend

1-4 very good 5 not my vibe 6 Incredible - favourite so far 7 wow 8 don’t mind it, not great 9 meh 10 groovy 11 not for me 12 not bad

Overall as far as singer songwriter albums go- this is a pretty good one. At least 2 good songs.

Great songs, not something I’m going to come back to again and again.

grew on me! never knew gilmore girls was carole king

Carol King is a songwriting legend. Her style isn't really my thing, but she's undeniably great, proven on this album with just the sheer number of songs that everyone has heard that came from it. Standouts are "I Feel The Earth Move," "It's Too Late," and "You've Got A Friend." I don't have too much to say other than it's a pleasant listen and these songs will persist for eternity. 3/5 from me, and much respect to King.

Easy listening

She's got many more famous songs than I initially would have thought. They are classics in their own right but not really my thing.

only 5 songs in, and it's really easy to get through. I enjoy it

Lovely stuff - can feel its echoes through generations of singer-songwriters

I listened to one song I really like it

oh yea fav tracks i feel the earth move it’s too late beautiful will you love me tomorrow a natural woman

This feels iconic purely through reputation alone. Some great songs, and generally lovely record to have on

I guess this is THE classic female singer/songwriter album, but I just don’t like her voice. The songs are good, but overall production is basic.

I liked the ending :)

It was pleasant enough, and her voice is nice, it just got boring after a while.

Hot and Cold, decent album.

I can’t help compare this to Joni Mitchell’s Blue, so I was surprised to hear they were being recorded simultaneously in the same studio. However, while Blue feels really heartfelt, for some reason this album doesn’t get me in the feels like everyone else. It’s nice, probably 3.5 stars, but I’m not in a rush to stick it on again.

First listen in the car, really good album. Has a lot of great vocal melodies, I like a lot of lyrics and themes. Carole King has a great voice Only tracks that bothered me was You’ve Got a Friend and Where You Lead. Both songs are literally the same thing about Carole just being like “Hey, if you need a friend I am right here”. Which is sweet in sentiment but like makes no sense, like I just started thinking Carole magically appearing when requested. Otherwise, good album. 7/10 closer to a 6 than a 8

Off the bat it reminds me of music that would be played in a coming of age movie. Top Songs: Where you lead I feel the earth move Beautiful Skips: Way over yonder Will you love me tomorrow? Tapestry 3/5; enjoyed. Would listen to some songs again but probably not the entire album

Not for me. Lots of recognisable songs, very used in shows/adverts etc so feel played out. Can tell well written and constructed but don’t speak to me

there is lots to like here so if someone was to ask me if they should give the album a listen i’d say yes. the issue is i just don’t like whatever genre this is. i love a lot of old music but this has an underlying pop? or something i’m not sure what vibe that im not personally into. sounds are well made though. definetly worth a listen to see if it’s for you. her voice is very smooth but not particularly exciting. i also don’t like R&B music (but love jazz) and this album has such a vibe. me personally i would not listen to any of these songs again and the album is more of a 2.5. i will say i am shocked this is one of apple music’s 100 best albums. it truly doesn’t seem that great to me but to each their own. where you lead is probably the best song but as a gilmore girls fan so im horribly biased. what i will say is this album has a serious cozy vibe and that is where i could see it gathering fans.

Ok, I get she’s lauded as a great songwriter and it’s quite the canon, lots of big hits. And some good songs here. And she’s not a bad singer. But this is just mostly easy listening - all very nice but just not an album for me. Terrible sax on Way Over Yonder banished any thought of a 4.

Obviously a talented songwriter. Just a slightly bland one

Its good, but not my type. Didnt knew her, and was good to know.

Really good album, but unfortunately the Friends theme song is from this

Lovely little ballads! Standouts: You've Got A Friend • Where You Lead • Smackwater Jack

This is my first listen in over 20 years. While it is a very accomplished album, I dont think it holds up well.

A bit twee at times but there is something lovely about hearing an excellent songwriter reclaiming what for so long she’d allowed others to define. I remember introducing my dad to this record in the early 00s and as he’d grown up on the 60s “originals” he struggled to get his head around the fact King had written all these tunes and this wasn’t just as covers collection.

I didn't grow up listening to this album, but I once heard someone describe it as an old friend and that sums it up. You know all the songs, deeply personal yet for everyone. Title track is my favourite with its mediaeval imagery - almost a cousin to After The Gold Rush.

1. I Feel the Earth Move - 10 Brilliant track. The piano is certainly a highlight of the track but it's lyrically brilliant as well. The supporting drums and superb guitar are given their own space to shine as well. Everything works so well in tandem with each other on this track. 2. So Far Away - 6 It's a decent love song. I'm not a huge fan of "Ooo I Miss You Baby" tracks because they've been done over and over anymore since the dawn of time. Having said that, this track has some decent lyrics on it and King's vocals are sublime. 3. It's Too Late - 6 Instrumentally and vocally there's a lot to like about this track. I'm not hugely enthralled lyrically by the track but it's simple enough and enjoyable to not be anything that takes away from the track too much. 4. Home Again - 3 "Snow is cold and rain is wet" are pretty poor lyrics. The piano on this track is excellent though so it's not all for lost but it is definitely a pass over track none-the-less. 5. Beautiful - 9 Lyrically strong I love the progressive nature of the drums and piano in the choruses as well as the super bridge into the outro. Awesome track. 6. Way Over Yonder - 7 It's starts out a little too slow for my liking but the addition of the saxophone and outro are both superb, leading to quite and enjoyable second half of the song. 7. You've Got a Friend - 6 I love the way the vocals go up and down on the track ass well as how it ends. It's nothing phenomenal personally but it is a good and enjoyable track. 8. Where You Lead - 6 Some of these verses are extremely strong lines of music. Not a huge fan of the outro on this track; I feel like the song was building to a better conclusion and it's left me wanting a lot more. 9. Will You Love Me Tomorrow? - 6 Solid love song. It's pretty simple in all terms but it's very good. 10. Smackwater Jack - 6 Fun song. Love the swingy-styled blues-like tone on the track. Lyrically it's fine. Reminds me of an old Ray Charles track. 11. Tapestry - 2 Not a fan. It reminds me of that folk-style tha Joni Mitchell is and I'm not really hugely in love with that kind of music. In addition, the constant increase in pitch between the last two verses I also don't enjoy. 12. (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman - 3 Not a fan of this cover. It just feels so off key and doesn't reach the exhaulted heights the original does. Average Rating: 5.83 Adjusted to 5-Point Scale: 2.92 Rounded Up: 3 Stars

Mellow, calming to listen to. Some very popular songs on this album that I knew but had completely forgotten about.

This one completely slipped past me. On paper, this folk-scene regular shouldn’t have caught my ear. But somehow, her pop-rock comes with a soulful twist. She even co-wrote songs sung by Aretha, including Natural Woman, which she covers here. Sure, there’s that inevitable folk touch, but the sound is warm, groovy, and even throws in a few decent riffs and solos. It goes down surprisingly well, and her voice, not exactly remarkable, has the good sense to stay neutral enough not to grate on me like Joni Mitchell’s.

great album full of great songs

My fav thing about this album is the cat on the cover. What a beautiful lil cat, authentic 70s cat.

She's very talented, and I remember hearing the closing track sung by Selma to Jub-Jub on The Simpsons.

Seems a better writer that performer, I prefer the way Martika's earth moved. Carol's voice has a honking, Muppet-like quality.

6.5/10

It is good album.

I didn't realize one of her songs was used for Golden Girls. Interesting lyrics, old school sound.

Not on Halloween. No,no,no.

If you had to whittle down the extensive catalog of singer-songwriter albums in this book to just one, this would be it. It's the quintessential 1970s Laurel Canyon singer-songerwriter magnum opus. Carole King was already legendary years before this album was recorded. She wrote so many hit records it's ridiculous. This album sounds like you're sitting in her living room listening to her band rehearse. Her voice is bare and unadorned, lending these sounds a vulnerable quality. It had a huge impact on the culture at the time, and it feels like if you want to write songs in this vein you MUST listen to Tapestry. All that being said I just don't love it. It's so "brown." So adult, so shag carpet. I respect it, and it fulfills its intentions beautifully, but it just isn't for me. THREE STARS

It’s Too Late best song on here. Mostly solid beyond that, liked Will You Love Me Tomorrow

Beautiful is one of the greatest songs ever written

Genius album of self exploration

Look at that cute cat on the cover! Maybe I just don't get it. She's talented and has a nice voice, but I didn't really get into this album. It's fine. 3*

pretty good

This album cover reminds me of the pictures from my childhood bathroom, which were actually paintings, but I thought for the longest time that they were pictures of my mom. Anyway, good album cover. I must confess* that I had thought Carole King was black, not because I was mixing her up with Coretta Scott or Ben E, but I think because she was a solo female artist in the disco era. Anyway, I clearly don't have a lot of Carole King knowledge, but I did know lots of these songs already: 'I Feel the Earth Move', 'It's Too Late', 'You've Got a Friend', 'Where You Lead' (Gilmore Girls theme song -- not a positive association (it's no Parenthood)), 'Will You Love Me Tomorrow' (Re: the Shirelles' cover, Wiki notes, 'When first presented with the song, lead singer Shirley Owens thought it was "too country", but relented after a string arrangement was added' - Shirley Owens, you get me), and '(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman'. They're fine songs. I guess a lot of them have (more famous?) covers, but the covers aren't distinct enough for me to have known them as different entities. Overall this album was good but mellow; definitely pleasant but not quite zippy enough for a 4. 'Tapestry' the song also mentions a coat of many colors, so I wonder if something Josephian was in the air in 1971 (because Dolly P's 'Coat of Many Colors' came out then too). Highlight: 'Home Again' *Must I? Yes, because one thing I'm trying to do with this project is sort out all my misconceptions about famous musicians, and if I don't write them down I won't know if I've sorted them out when I go back later! Duh!

6/10 - I can imagine this being perfect ironing music for folk who grew up in the times

Basic 70's folk with some highlights. Nothing remarkable.

- Carole King (and her then-husband too, I guess) really knew how to write extremely catchy songs with near-universal subject matter. that whole process of writing a hit feels like magic -- to perfectly match words and mood to a catchy melody without being derivative or cliche - that said, I can definitely see why she was known for writing songs covered by other people. her performance was pleasant, but her voice was a little weak when compared to how some of the cover artists performed the same songs. as a songwriter, it would probably be pretty amazing to hear someone take your song and do it justice in a totally new and maybe even more fitting way -- I would hope the feeling wasn't disappointment or jealousy over a newer version becoming more popular, but rather excitement at seeing others interpret their song in new ways

I know a lot of the songs from various covers and because it's just one of those classic 70s singer songwriter albums but do I get it? Not really. I can appreciate the song craft and the musicianship but it's not really me. Some classic songs though.

Much better than the Bob Dylan album I'd listened to, but the lyrics didn't resonate with me at all.

It was nice to listen to, but nothing outstanding. It just sounded ok

Kinda more mellow and also a bit of like jazz but I think it's pretty good so yeah.

How can I express my thoughts about an album that is as intensely beloved as this one without sounding like a complete asshole? Those multitudes who connected REALLY connected. I’ll go this way: I like the songwriting. The delivery and her voice are just so plain that it accomplishes whatever the opposite of “elevating” is. I feel like maybe if I spent more time listening it could grow on me though. Bonus star for how when I was singing “You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman” at the top of my lungs the whole family laughed.

Mmmmm... vale, bien. Quiero volver a escucharlo.

Oh yeah. Like everybody said, this album has a near flawless first three tracks and after that it’s mid. 3.5/5

Just ok

Not my style, but I did enjoy it. ★★★

Liked it more than I thought I would. A couple hits I know and the Gilmore Girls theme song.

I have no strong opinion of this album or Carole king on general. It is music, that’s all I have to say.

Picture this: you're staying at an Airbnb on the foothills of a national park. It's a quiet and cozy evening, and there's a record player in the room. You flip through the stack of records and grab something at random. It's Tapestry (1971) by Carole King. You drop the needle and as you settle in with a glass of wine to relax after a long day of hiking, you take note of the simple pleasures in life. Whimsy aside, this album is fine. The internet says this is apparently one of the greatest albums of all time, but I don't hear it. It's comforting but not groundbreaking. I was surprised by the number of songs I recognized, but none of them are ones I was excited to hear. 3/5

pretty plain, but undeniably good

good album, just got boring quickly 3

Pretty good.

An album of a certain time. And thTs not my time. I respect it but its not for me

“Holy fuck this is a Carol King song?” Is the experience of this album.

She sang you make me feel?! A heartfelt album full of feeling and heartbreak and love. What a voice too

I'm sure I heard songs from this record all the time when I was a kid, and it seems like they were not performed by Carole King. It got me wondering, and I had to look it up, but I wasn't sure whether this was Ms. King doing a bunch of covers, or if there are a thousand covers of this original work. I'm a little bewildered to learn that this album is her own material and most of the songs are ubiquitously familiar in soft-rock and folksy soulful musical spheres. I can't say I'm super enthused about the style of the music and performance, being comfortably tepid, but maybe I just draw on a little too much adrenaline with my tastes.

Heard some of these songs, doesn't quite spark with me. Some tracks sound flat. Gilmore Girls though! 3.5 rounded down Heard before? No Owned: No 11/1001, 11/47 (23%) Will I get? No

Perfectly nice again. Can see why she's so popular but even the singles are songs that don't do that much for me.

Over the years I've listened to this album a bunch of times and although there are a number of great great songs on here even if her slower version of will you still love me is not as good as the faster better known one... I just can't get on with it as an album, all the other tracks come across as the sort of song they'd use as a theme tune to a family friendly 70s sitcom. I've tried, I really have, and it's not like terrible. But it is not my bag.

mildly enjoyable for a wednesday morning

It was ok

Bisschen Melodramatisch. Vielleicht wenn ich mal Depressionen bekomme.

Tapestry is true to its name as it covers a wide range, from heartbreak to homesickness and even to serial murder. All solid, catchy tunes. Smackwater Jack is a personal favorite as it’s not only funny but also a nice break from the general sappy nature of the album as a whole. It is entertaining to think that the only reason I’ve heard any of these songs before is because they’re played for old people at my local Kroger.

Sinner here. Won’t lie, I peeped the general review scores for this one before writing this. Regardless of my personal feelings, fact is Carole and the group boast a crisp sound and vision for their tracks. Tracks are mixed impressively well for the early 70’s, feeling ahead of their time in many ways, due in part to the influence of this album in particular. Regardless regardless, I’m just not feeling it. The album is hopeful and cute, but for me it lacks the musical or lyrical punch I’d expect from an album that gets more 5s on here than anything. I’m almost ashamed to admit that at some point the tracks on here just become noise for me. All sound good. All fine, really. Just not very distinct for my ears. Super regarding regardless, this album has its place in theoretical social gatherings where I may need to be extra vigilant about everyone’s diverse tastes, putting on the least offensive collection of singles I cant find.

The vocals are really the key to this one for sure. In terms of instrumentals and general composition I wasn't super impressed but also not really disappointed either. Solid album with a gutsy and memorable singing performance

I could see it growing on me. 3.

I loved this album and would never ever say anything remotely bad about it cuz its Treds favorite album of all time.

Pretty vibey. Carole weaves a fine web of songs

It's Too Late.

Tapestry is one of those records which is mostly familiar, and where you can recognise the great writing and performing, but where it just doesn't seem to connect. Sometimes I think it's because it seems to be aimed at women listeners. Maybe I'm wrong.

75/100 pretty good, feeling quite ill at the minute so not had the greatest listening experience due to that lollll so when im feeling better ill come back to this album and see if this fever i have was affecting my thoughts on it, dying rn but other than that this record was pretty fun and upbeat, was nice to listen to the origin of some pretty popular songs and instrumentation and her voice is pretty fun, but i found it to be getting staler by the song around halfway through, great 3 track run of it's too late, home again and beautiful tho. smackwater jack is a stinker tbh

very classic album that i have never heard of until now but everyone else knows it soooo. 60/100 idk

so sensitive. 3.5/5 will definitely relisten

She was certainly better than Kid Rock

It was cool I guess. She sounded good, the songs were pretty well written. It didn’t really do anything for me though and I fail to see how this had a profound impact on music in the long term.

I was looking forward to hearing the original artist on so many iconic songs.....and was left kinda meh.

Nicely sung, but not for me.

Un poco mid

Pretty voice but not my thing

3 stars

Some good music. Can be more centered towards women in some songs, but still good music. Good job Carole

Feels like a 1997 girl in her 20s who moved to the Big Apple 7 months ago and is missing her small town in North Carolina

I appreciate it but wouldn't choose to listen to it

King has a great voice and this album has some good songs. Not my typical cup of tea but I do enjoy the hits

An album of its time with memorable songs

I had a pretty great time listening to this. I could probably do to check it out again, but from a first listen, what sticks out is just how joyful this project is. Honestly, if the execution were any worse, I'd maybe have a hard time taking this seriously. However, Carole King is just so earnest that this comes across as super sweet and empathetic. Just listening to this honestly kind of makes me feel good. That being said, I don't know if I like the music enough that I see myself coming back a whole ton, but I did really enjoy the listen I had.

I Feel the Earth Move 4 So Far Away 3.4 It's Too Late 3.8 Home Again 3.3 Beautiful 3.2 Way Over Yonder 3 You've Got a Friend 3.3 When You Lead 3.5 Will You Love Me Tomorrow 3.5 Smackwater Jack 3.4 Tapestry 3.2 (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman 3.4 Score: 3.416666667

Most of the tracks are a little too sleepy for my liking, but damn A Natural Woman is a good song

Very talented singer/songwriter. Some solid songs here

I know this is labeled as an iconic and influential album, but I honestly didn’t hear anything new and groundbreaking in this album. Maybe because I’ve already listened to all the music that was inspired by this album, but either way it didn’t grab me.

point3.

Soft, folk rock and soul solo C.f. P.P. Arnold Quite a nice chilled out sound (It's Too Late instrumental). Does get old quite quickly Best track - It's Too Late 3 stars

More groovy than I expected and generally really pleasant, but not something I'd really feel like coming back to for every song unfortunately, still worth anyone's time to listen to it

I’ve always found Carol King to be pretty milquetoast, in the vain of James Taylor, but this album changed that a bit. There are some cool jazzy, bluesy moments here - and she navigates it well. I could have done without the blues-pandering “smack water jack”, but “way over yonder” was a highlight.

7.3/10 Very chill background noise and soothing. Not used to this kind of music so rating could be skewed

This album is good, not one I’ll return to often but I think there’s a couple tracks that I really liked a lot and will make some playlists 3.5

Ok , catchy songs that take you to sitcoms and old movies with cut scenes of traveling on a bus going to your old hometown or new job in the big city

Melodic but slightly slow songs. Good piano

Simple head banger! The parents would love this! Brings back some childhood!

Solid start, tailed off by the end. great piano driven songs

Meh, takovy album o jedny pisnicce

Alright, a bit slow

Relaxed soft Rock with good vocals and an engaging bassline.

I rather like it.

Would be perfect if it were 6 songs shorter.

I never was a big fan of this album, mainly because of the song “I Feel the Earth Move.” But I’m a little picky. Sue me.

this album is like a classic 'classic' album... really fun!

Very nice. Some tunes that sound simple on the surface, but if you listen closer, you begin to understand. There's depth to this and I wouldn't mind if this came up in my shuffle. Not quite up there with my favorite stuff but impressive nonetheless (8/10, 4 on this scale) (Update: Brought it down to a 3. I still like it a lot, but I think a 3 seems more appropriate for now)

not for me i fear

I struggle to really define the genre of this record. It incorporates a ton of different styles and sounds, and it all works very well. I like this album, I enjoyed listening to it, but it’s not one that I would actively seek out and put on. Carole King has a very unique voice, but at times I found myself wishing it was just a little more powerful, but her singing is quite beautiful. The songwriting is solid, and all the instruments are played very well here. Fun record, but not anything overly special. 3*

Soooo... I get it... Carole King is a good songwriter. She was one of the queens of Laurel Canyon. This album is her magnum opus. I get it... but I don't *get it*. I think this is a pretty good album, but I don't quite see what's so great about it. The best songs on this album are the ones you already know going into it ("I Feel the Earth Move", "It's Too Late", maybe "You've Got A Friend") and the covers ("Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?" and "A Natural Woman"). Some other highlights on the album for me are "Where You Lead", particularly the backing vocals, and I did find myself quite liking "Beautiful" even if the lyrics feel a bit platitudinous. That leaves another handful of songs. "So Far Away" I think is kinda nice, but also kinda just... annoying for some reason I can't put my finger on. "Way Over Yonder" and "Tapestry" are pretty forgettable for me. "Smackwater Jack" is an oddball within the album as it's the only storytelling track rather than a first-person account of one's thoughts/feelings. It's fine. I like the backing vocals again and the sax. On the whole, I mostly think this album is... fine. It's good. I don't think it's a masterpiece. The instrumentation is at times pretty inspired. Carole's voice is at times a little annoying. Her lyrics don't really hit for me and I think this is the kind of album/she is the kind of artist where the lyrics really make or break it for you. "Snow is cold, rain is wet"... sure is, Carole. Sure is. That being said, the mega-hits from this album are very good songs. Playlist pick: "Where You Lead"

Fine, great songwriting but just not to my taste

Early 70s folk rock isn't my favorite but this has its funky moments and there are some undeniable classic on here. 2.5 rounding up.

Good, but a little too soft and too easy of listening. Not much power can be felt behind any of the music. Not sure if a better mix would fix anything, but maybe.

6/10 I like this, it always makes me think of watching the rain fall. 5-23-2025

This album feels very light and upbeat, like a group of friends hanging out, and has all the marks of 70's easy listening. I liked it better than I thought I would, she's a talent for sure. Simple, human, warm. Hard to find a fault. 2.70 for fun piano and a bit of soul from a white woman.

I really liked this one, it was a nice change of pace.

Off the cuff remark: not quite sure what to say with this one, it's very "nice". Short pop tunes, is it MOR? with some tracks that feel like they were staple on the radio when I was a kid, and yet I don't really know them. Accomplished, inoffensive but... Standout Track: ? Revisit? Maybe but maybe not Other thought: Surely one of the albums Josh Rouse had in mind when writing and recording 1972 ?

All these songs ran together. Maybe it deserves another listen.

I really wanna like this more than I do. It’s iconic and important but it’s just missing something. It reminds me of the worst of the 70s. Nothing speaks to me.

Melodic

Obviously I recognize a lot of these, and can understand why people are fans I guess… I am not. Did not really enjoy this at all, but have to allot some points for the success of these songs.

I wish I liked this more than I do. Beautiful voice, but kinda boring.

incredibly solid, very calming

Pleasant tunes throughout. Nothing that stood out really but easy, interesting listening with raw vocals.

I respect her achievements as a working artist but it doesn’t change the fact that this sound is 60% of what I hate about the 70’s

The story of this album is inspirational but it also kind of sounds like someone singing 70s pop hits on karaoke night.

2 simpy 5 me
