Reviews (page 13 of 14)
Pretty solid. Had heard several of the songs
I've heard of the prolific songwriting partnership of Goffin/King, but I never realised one half was Carole King, she certainly knows how to write a tune! A product of its time in pop music, though, you can almost hear the Carpenters at work! I recognised the titles of half of the tracks and realised this migh be a bit special. Best tracks; I Feel the Earth Move (overshadowed in my mind by the Martika cover), It's Too Late, Beautiful, You've Got A Friend, Will You Love Me Tomorrow (covered by numerous artists too), (YMMFLA) Natural Woman (Originally written by G/King partnership for A Franklin). In fact I don't think there was a bad track on this LP. All in all, a very enjoyable listen, a very talented songwriter who wrote some famous songs for other artists as well as influenced a new generation of artists. Better than I expected - a high 3
Weird foot. I don't dislike it, just makes it harder to focus on everything else. (this was supposed to be about her voice but I changed it after seeing the cover again) The first song is upbeat, I liked it a lot and expected the rest of the album be more like it. Sadly, the rest has a completely different vibe. Not bad, but coud've been so much better
i agree, the first song set an upbeat mood that the rest of the album failed to deliver on but it was still all right
A couple of classics & a lovely voice but very much of it's time & not all of it's aged well.
it was objectively okay, all songs are fairly well made, but nothing struck me as a great song, and I am not a big fan of this genre anyways, a bit slow and boring
Not my thing that I could appreciate good songwriting
Wow, I knew a lot more of these songs than I expected. She wrote or cowrote all of them as well.
This album is cozy, you almost want to sing along on your first listen since a lot of the sound has been used elsewhere and a few tracks are still fairly regularly played (shout out Natural Woman and Where You Lead). It’s a very warm and soft feeling album.
Adequate. Perhaps a bit straightforward, but I'm not in the mood for something complicated right now.
liked the first few tracks, not bad overall
Pleasant.
3 - It's Too Late / 12 - Make Me Feel (Like a Natural Woman)
Sopii hyvin ameriikan halkomiseen rekalla. Eka kappale oli paras sitten meno vähän hiipui, mutta kuitenkin ihan miellyttävää blues rockia. Liian moni kappale ehkä liian hidas
Cat: Amazing songwriting and vocal talent! AJ: she just sounds so good. Vox and keys. So damn good.
I distinctly remember my parents had this LP when I was a kid. I don't particularly recall listening to it, though the big hits on it are familiar. Those hits are certainly iconic, but I didn't find a lot of depth in the rest of the tracks.
Average overall counting in the fact that I never have listened to the artist.
Like Nilsson I'd never heard of her but this album was full of classics. Not particularly my thing but good for one listen.
I liked the first track! Also didn't realize that she did the Gilmore Girls theme song (with her daughter in a duet! so sweet!!). Otherwise not really my thing
Short and sweet. Felt like it went by too fast. Folky. + It's Too Late + Beautiful
It was just okay. Probably caught me on the wrong day but I thought it was a bit boring. It was certainly quite soulful though, so I'll give it that. Favourite: I Feel The Earth Move
About half of this record is wallpaper music, the other half is very good. Favorite song: Home again
Tapestry by Carole King is like a warm hug from your grandma after she's spiked her coffee with a little somethin' somethin'. It's pure comfort in musical form. I mean, you can't listen to "You've Got a Friend" without feeling like you just got a group hug from the entire cast of Friends. And "Natural Woman"? I haven't felt that beautiful since I looked in the mirror this morning and realized I forgot to take off my sleep mask. So if you're feeling down and out, or just need a pick-me-up, throw on Tapestry and let Carole King and her keyboard whisk you away to a world of good vibes and groovy tunes. And maybe pour a little somethin' somethin' into your coffee too. Grandma would approve.
Not a fan, but recognise what an influential album this has been.
Nice tone to this original singer songwriter... but it is of a previous era, really not my cup of tea, and I would probably be controversial in saying the songs have been done better as covers by other artists.
- Quality soft rock/easy listening - nice voice - not a ton to say other than she makes quality music
Brill music peaked wit da gal Carole. Rating: 7/10
Mild album. Has some songs I know of. Three biggies? Not my style though. Three star.
Mau
Listened Before? N I have heard of her, and I knew a few songs but I hadn't ever done a deep-dive. She's good. Great voice and very mellow easy listening stuff. I enjoyed it. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: It's Too Late
An all-time great album but still not my thing.
It was ok.mum liked the covers more than the originals.
Such a 70's album.
Poppy 70's wallpaper
Best: I Feel the Earth Move Worst: (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman
1/26/2023 pretty good record, 'easy listening' is the best way to describe it. you'd hear your grandmother listening to this while cleaning "beautiful" really stood out to me, great lyrics and genuinely catchy
3.5
Some classic tunes in there, a bunch of them I heard before but didnt know who sang them. Overall a nice rock-pop mellow album, very late 60s vibe.
Strong songs. Not my Genre.
Done
Easy listening pop isn’t my jam but if you put a gun to my head and forced me to listen to this genre it would probably be this album. She certainly has a talent for writing songs with great hooks, as evidenced by the sheer number of monster hits here. The hit singles were solid, so this gets a solid 3
One of the great songwriters. Nice voice and another soothing listen. However, the songwriting lacks a little something to truly excite me. The production is great and some cool harmony work.
Enjoyable folk-pop with a good voice. Would give this 3,5 stars but ultimately falls just short of 4 for me
Fine
Gentle and folky, a decent background soundtrack but not much more interesting than that
As far as albums with that typical 70s sound go, this one is fine - no more, no less. I wouldn't neccessarily listen again, but wouldn't be annoyed if it was running somewhere I happened to be. First time, too, that I have heard the original version of Where You Lead, a.k.a. Ally McBeal title track. 3/5
oikein eheä ja hyvä kokonaisuus, kaunis. sopivasti silti rosoa olematta varsinaisesti rouhea. It's too late jotenkin sytyttää
On one level, this is impressive. Great voice - it always amazes me to go back and hear how strong some of these vocalists were before the days of autotune. Nowadays, you have no idea if your favorite artist can actually belt out a tune or not. But Carol, no problem there. But...this belongs firmly in that strain of 70s music that quickly makes me change the channel. The songs aren't bad - in fact they're kind of catchy - but they make me think of brown paneling and montage scenes in 70s TV shows. Although I did appreciate the Gilmore Girls throwback with "Where you lead". So as with many of my reviews - impressed, but not going to be pulling this one up again.
Man, this is Parents Music. Easy listening all the way! I wonder if back in the day Carol King, Karen Carpenter, and Carly Simon hung out together and talked junk about Joni Mitchell. I have to admit, I love that Too Late Baby song. But generally, this is an album full of your moms favorite shit, and its, honestly, kinda boring.
I’m kind of eating my words from earlier about singer songwriters. I enjoyed this album. Well, I guess I should say I really enjoyed I feel the earth move. It’s still stuck in my head after the first listen and after listening to all the other songs. The rest of the album was not bad either, but a bit too bland for me on first listen. I really like the message of beautiful: “You’ve got to get up every morning with a smile on your face and show the world all the love in your heart, then people gonna treat you better, you’re gonna find, yes you will, that you’re beautiful as you feel.” A bit cheesy, but I like it. But again with the split audio thing in Smackwater Jack I can’t even explain how much I hate that.
Pretty mid
Never heard before. Nice, not sure how I feel about the mastering - feels like it really wants to pop but the sound isn't there. Nice album 3 stars
Pretty chill piano vibes, reminds me of Charlie Brown
clearly very important, but it all sits in a very familiar lane and tone - two or three wonderful classics, the rest is just a bit indulgent
This is a classic that feels like a classic. It has this moment that it is stuck in but represents that moment well. Like a wonderfully constructed museum piece. It is about that timeframe but also expansive enough to the current audience to enlighten them. Even if they don't have the full experience of that moment.
R&B for the yt folks
Didn’t finish
Getting there. Keeping this in faves
Pretty good stuff
First few songs were the strong point of the album however I felt it dipped around mid way 6/10
A nice and sweet album to listen to. It doesn't reinvent anything, it's not hurtful or uplifting or breakthrough. In short, it does absolutely nothing other than being a good album. Cool!
I didn’t recognize her name or the album, but I recognized almost every song that played. Glad I know the artist and album now. Very enjoyable.
Classic sound good baselines excellent but kind of Boring.
Would re listen to
Slick piano rock. Great voice. 6/10
T'was okay. Nothing memorable.
3.5
Chock full of hits. The is the kind of Carpenters type music I can dig
In the context of 1001, this album justifies its inclusion in a few ways, the most obvious being Carole King. It would seem that in recent history, a female solo artist that is not confined to the pop genre is a rare happenstance. A quick thought of notables would include Winehouse, pre-pop Lady Gaga, and current singer Adele. Before either of these talents, Carole King was doing it and doing it well. While not as raspy as Adele, and perhaps not as consistent as Winehouse, Carole King's presence along with her vocal talent make her contribution of "Tapestry" a very strong, very enjoyed experience.
A sure highlight of 70s pop music. I might come back to this more. Favourites: "So Gar Away", "It's Too Late", "Way Over Yonder"
Well put together album. It’s stylistically very cohesive.
Three stars and a half An all-time classic for many A landmark album for many but I'm not sure I'm totally sold on this one. We can all be grateful that Carole King, a prolific writer for other artists before *Tapestry* came out, took this opportunity to write this album for herself. But would this record have been so praised or heavily promoted at the time if someone else, unknown to the "business", had released it instead ? Some sneaking suspicion in me says no. It's not that this album is lacking in terms of highlights, tough. "It's Too Late" (and its groovy guitar riff), "You've Got A Friend", "Beautiful" and the title track are killer songs, craftily arranged and recorded. The stereo effects on this album are well tought-out, for instance, like that glockenspiel chiming on the chorus of "It's Too Late", probably one of the first use of the instrument in the rock and pop idiom. And it's also quite moving to hear King performing in a far more subdued manner that old hit she once gave to Aretha Franklin, "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman". But truth be told, most of the other songs feel just a little too generic 50 years later, with very predictable parts involving linear pop progression that could even border on muzak for today's ears. Admittedly, the line is very thin, and historical contextualization might help you hear those songs with more forgiving ears. Not every listener in 2022 is able to get the "feel" of those sorts of dated canvases. Carole King is an admirable weaver, no doubt about that. It's just that those old works of hers might just look a little quaint overall today. Even if the charm is still there if you pay attention to the details. Number of albums left to review or just listen to: more than 900, I've temporarily lost count here Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: approximately a half so far Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: a quarter (including this one) Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more important): the last quarter
Iz super mi nekak prede u cringe
Very comforting.
Hits are great. Rest requires a deeper listen than I will do.
solid folky songwriting of the era, nothing in particular really hit me though.
Didn't think I knew any of her songs, but knew most of them
Not really my cup of tea but I can tell it's really good
I found this album a little dreary. Maybe I just wasn't in the right mindset for it? 6/10.
A favourite once upon a time. It hasn't aged so well, but then who has?
It's alright. Pretty much every song is quite pretty, but they are all just so one-dimensional. Like each one could be summed up with a single sentence and you wouldn't be missing anything. 5/10
Buen álbum
Typical female folk album of the 70s, really. Have no idea why it's so big.
nah
There are some powerful tracks where the lyrics shine through here, but for most of the LP it seems King's vocals are mixed directly in the instrumentals. Everything just tends to blend together as a result, obscuring the singer half of this singer-songwriter album.
King's a songwriting titan. It's surprising how much of her stuff you know without knowing.
Sounds like broadway musical songs, not my favourite
So far away & It’s too late Dobar neki vibe, ženska patetika ali na neki feel-good način, rilejtam
The album is ok. I recognized You've Got Friend but not this version, You make me feel like a natural woman and a couple of others sounded familiar. There is no desire to listen to this album again.
Ganz nett. Schlechte 3.
very primary school choir. features one song in shrek
12/13/2021 Today's Album: "Tapestry" by Carole King - This album is really fun. So many songs that played during this album made me think, "oh I've heard this before!" And that's because of just how influential this album is. Songs like I feel the earth move and You've got a friend have been covered by other groups countless times and for good reason. These are soulful, bouncy, and well written singer songwriter tracks and the the band that backs her amazing voice are also extremely talented with great performances of great arrangements. I like a lot of the songs off of here despite how dated some parts feel and I think it deserves a listen from anyone that enjoys music. Score: 7/10 Extremely influential and very enjoyable Highlights: I feel the earth move, it's too late, beautiful, you've got a friend, smackwater jack
Good I suppose
chill vibes
Pleasant enough tunes for background noise.
Can appreciate that this is a good album but I would never listen again.
Sweet and lovely. Think that some of these song will stay in my folk playlist
Good songwriting and instrumentation not my favorite genre but solid
Listened a lot to this as a kid. Not my favorite to be honest.
A bit too soft at times, but overall great melodies.
Pretty solid
3 1/2
October 29, 2021 Obviously a great songwriter and I really wanted to like a monster album by a female artist, but just a little too chill for me and don't love her voice. But some great songs on here.
I'd imagine it's the kind of album Paul Scholes sucks on his family member's toes to. A glass of scotch and chewing your own daughter's toenails and Carole King, what a perfect evening.
Talented, pleasant listen, but not something I’m likely to come back to for repeat listens
Interesting to hear the songwriter herself do these huge hits which are best known by other artists. Polished Easy Listening.
I didn’t know she wrote those songs. That’s cool
In every baby boomer mom's top ten. Some big classics here but ultimately not my thing.
Definitely not the target audience for this one, not bad though. (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman reminds me of that 80s/90s commercial, was it underwear?
Once I saw the track-list of this album I knew I was in for a surprise. Seeing tracks like 'I Feel the Earth Move' and '(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman' which are absolutely iconic songs, of which I had no idea who originally sung them. Its a very relaxed pop/folksy album with acoustic guitars and piano playing that has an old world feel to it. Best: I Feel the Earth Move; (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman Worst: Way Over Yonder
victim of its own success in a way? Everything felt like it had done before... even though she probably pioneered it. A few really great songs though
She sings pretty good for a white chick
good
"Tapestry still holds the record for most consecutive weeks at number one by a female solo artist." Interesting story about James Taylor recording HER song, "You've Got a Friend", at the same time she recorded it, with the same musicians, both winning Grammys.
Noic nice
Fav Tracks: I Feel the Earth Move; So Far Away; It's Too Late. Pretty good but it kinda falls short on the 2nd half of the album. It has good moments.
- Heard before but not for several years
Not bad
Carole King...who knew? hahaha. Are all the songs on this hits? Female light rock goodness. One lane, one really really good lane. Low key sound enough like each other to be everywhere without knowing it lolz
Pretty boring
Good voice, nice melodies, production mediocre.
dont think i was in the right mood for this album but it was nice
Carole King is one of those artists that I have heard several tracks from, and I know that they are talented and deserve praise. I know that this is a landmark album, but I started today's listen with a sense of resignation... "I guess I'm listening to this today". The music is good, a solid 3 stars. I know some of the lyrics to at least 4 or 5 of the tracks on this album. I just don't imagine a second listen of this album any time soon.
This was a pleasant enough 70s styled album. Of course it has a couple all star songs on here which definitely helped solidified this albums place on the list.
very nice album, very calming
Meh. The songs are so familiar, I understand why this is in the list, but I just don't like her voice. The production quality leaves something to be desired too.
3/5
I listened to this while I was pottering around tidying my room, fitted my mood well I think today. I knew a few of the songs as it went on and liked listening to them, but definitely ended on the biggest banger with 'natural woman'.
Some good singer-songwriter, with the emphasis on songwriter; Though her versions are great, I prefer a lot of other performances and arrangements, such as Taylor's "You've got a friend".
<3 but still 3 stars. a little overplayed in my childhood.
It was ok
The three lead tracks are instant pop classics, the songcraft throughout is unparalleled, the arrangements conform to Carole King's vocal style like a bespoke suit, and King's lyrics are intelligent and sensitive. So why don't I like Tapestry better? Part of the reason is that the style rubs me the wrong way. All of the edges have been sanded down. King's style is an amalgam of soul, pop, and rock n' roll, but here it's housebroken, with all the rude phone calls razored out. Drummer Russ Kunkel and guitarist Danny Kortchmar, the core of a group of session musicians who backed such Laurel Canyon luminaries as Jackson Brown, Linda Rondstadt, and Warren Zevon, give competent but toothless backing. And even though King's songcraft is impeccable, sometimes there seems to be more perspiration than inspiration involved in such songs as Beautiful, Way Over Yonder, and Where You Lead. Most damaging is the title track, which edges over into twee, with its nursery rhyme melody and imagery. And Smackwater Jack tries too hard to be edgy--King comes off like a little girl playing dress-up. I don't want to be too harsh. Carole King is a creditable performer. Her piano comping is simple but always tasteful and if her voice is homely, she wields it with great understanding and skill. Still, the final track on Tapestry shows her limitations. King's rendition of (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman, while competent enough, doesn't really bring out the song's potential, the way Aretha's did. Now, it may seem unfair to compare Carole King to the Queen of Soul, but I'm just trying to point out that King's talents were chiefly as a songwriter, not a performer. Some of these songs might have faired better with a gutsier, more powerful performer. So, how to rate? The first three songs are lightning in a bottle and the rest of the album is thoroughly professional, if not to my personal taste. I'm probably guilty of underrating this, but I'm going to give it 3.5/5 stars. 3.5/5
Mucho piano, setentero, rollo Elton John
Production: 9/20 Songwriting: 14/20 Innovation: 9/20 Bangers: 5/20 Emotional response: 14/20 =51 Perfectly pleasant (also really loved the cover of will you still love me tomorrow)
not that bad actually, some good tracks
she's a brilliant song writer and a few absolute classics but a full album is a stretch at once. 7/10
Some of the more boring selections from the Home Depot soundtrack on here. Not bad but a snooze fest 5/10
Bit boring. 5
Singles from Tapestry "It's Too Late"/"I Feel the Earth Move" Released: April 1971 "So Far Away"/"Smackwater Jack" Released: March 1971
Classic album with some popular songs. Great piano work and bass line was excellent throughout.
Una version de James Taylor femenina
Better than I thought. Pretty classic.
Tranquilo, melódico. Bueno.
Definitely in many movies in those transitional driving scenes.
I liked the Gilmore Girls song. good album don't know if I would listen to it again
I liked the first half. The second half, I began to feel fatigue.
did not care for it, but that's a turning point of a record
This is the good shit. Great start with I feel the earth move. So far away is slower, but a great ballad. It’s too late is solid. Funky and soulful. Album is great so far. Home Again is a bit of a lull, but not bad. Beautiful is fun. Way over yonder is solid again. You’ve got a friend also slow ballad. Slow middle unfortunately letting down the side. Great album but will only revisit a number of the songs regularly.
Some decent tracks
What a songwriter: these are almost all eternal classics! 3.5
Some solid songwriting and excellent production. Turns out I knew half the record because it’s half hit songs. I would say 3.5 for me
Has some lovely moments, but the production isn't doing much for me. I'm struggling to grasp onto the emotional core of the songs. Some great choruses though, especially in the big hits. Also "Where you lead" makes me think of Gilmore Girls which is always nice.
That one album you always saw record hunting. Knew all the hits but enjoyed listening to the whole thing.
There are some really good songs like You've got a friend and (You make me feel like) A natural woman (even though this one is a cover), but overall it's too slow paced for me.
Reminds me of Fleetwood Mack, classic music from the 70s.
Full of classics

Muutama tuttu biisi. Voisin kuunnella helposti uudelleen ja taidan kuunnellakin...
good song writing, some boppers
Good, not great. Lot of good songs and liked the vocals but just wasn't feeling it.
Hyviä tuttuja biisejä löyty tältä levyltä. Muutenkin diggailin tunnelmasta. Hyvän mielen levy!
this is p cool, I know a few of the songs cause I think it's been on the radio liek a kazillion times. I guess it's "oldies" at this point but it's still catchy. 3/5.
Some nice moments... can see why it’s held in such high regard.
Just found it a bit boring unfortunately I know it’s a classic and all that, and it’s pretty enough, but I don’t think I’m the audience for it. Thanks anyway.
4/10 biraz sıktı
okay
Meh
It was ok. A bit slow for my taste but I liked The Way The Earth Moves. Probably the best track on there
It’s a decent album. There’s not really a bad song, but there isn’t anything that jumps out at you. It can also start to blend together. A slow burn album that probably won’t be listened to again.
I wasn't a fan of the vocals much, drums and piano were alright.
It wasn’t offensive or anything, but this kind of thing just really isn’t for me, I get no enjoyment from it and just want to skip after a few min.
Meh
Ikkje heilt min vibe, følsomme tekster som e ok
Pretty but boring
prima, niet heel interessant
Not great
Seemed a bit uninspiring.
Rakkauslauluja naisen näkökulmasta koko levyllinen
It was pretty inspiring. Fave track was So Far Away.
Liked the first song, but the rest was kind of whiny
not my thing reallyy
2/5
Generally nice but not much that stood out to me
Not my bag, well made though
Хороший easy listening.
Besonders beim Song „Where You Lead“ wurd mir wirklich flau im Magen: „I always wanted a real home with flowers on the windowsill… but you wanna live in New York City, honey, you know that I will.“ Wirklich?!Kein Kompromiss möglich? Und am Ende des Albums steht dann „(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman“. Ein Song, den fast jeder schon einmal gehört hat. Sehnsüchtig gesungen und vielleicht auch ein bisschen seiner Zeit voraus.
Am Anfang sehr nett aber sie hat mich in der zweiten hälfte verloren. Wie man nen eingängies Lied schreibt weiß sie aber. Keine Highlights keine Tiefen aber insgesamt nicht wirklich mein Sound.
Vorher schon gekannt: youve got a friend, where you lead, you make me feel Groovy Gute Melodien
So Far Away is a great tune, but I'm still not into Carole King.
I find it quite incredible that this album I don't remember ever hearing of that apparently is a huge success that has inspired many artists is so mediocrely performed (especially King's singing) and uninteresting to listen to
Canción favorita: I feel the earth move.
2 sterne
This album was okay, I did like a few elements here and there but i ultimately was a little bored listening to this album. But i can definitely appreciate the time and effort that went into an album like this but unfortunately its just not for me as I dont see my self revisiting any of the songs on here.
meh, tranquilo, mucho piano, poco relevante 2/5
Huske kje så masse
Album cover is great but I’m sorry this holds absolutely no interest for me
I don't like this kind of thing. Sometimes there's something interesting, but mostly it's boring. 4/10
Although I can understand why it was and still is a popular album, on my first listen today it did not impress me. The lirycs felt a bit too plain, almost naive. I enjoyed "Smackwater Jack", a song with a more comical athmosphere, or the subtle "(You Make Me Feel...". I like the cat in the foreground of the cover.
ça va mais c'est redondant ptn
Heard lots of songs I know which is pretty cool. Pretty boring couldn’t get into it.
chato sorry
Aretha Franklin if she was Jewish. I don't know how to explain it but that's just what I feel
Listening to this while Rossin’s getting bitched by a 40 year old mom for his insurance money Enjoying this mucho Heard many of these, don’t always feel like giving a full review to something I don’t know much to say about. Did forget just quite how many bangers there are in this. At least 2 likely 3 legit bangers just in this album, including a top 10-15 Aretha song (the last track), this was a song king wrote (with input from her) for Aretha, who then made it famous.
Background music for late boomers
War nett. Passte, war aber auch nichts besonders tolles.
It a good album that composes really good songs for someone who would be into that mellow, 70s type of music. But generally it isn't for me. Rating: 4/10 Favorite songs: Beautiful & it took to long
0/12 bekannt 4/10 Beste Songs: Tapestry, so far away, a natural woman
Some classic songs, shame about the overwrought production.
Too boring and hippie for me. She has a good voice but still meh! “You make me feel…” is amazing song.
Eh
I enjoyed this. Felt soulful but in a frill way. Was suprised at how many I actually recognised, whether that was from covers or the original. Think I’d listen again but wouldn’t rush back.
This was alright but it's just not my thing. I wouldn't be offended by it if it was on but I wouldn't listen to it voluntarily
Some good songs, some patronising. Not a voice for me.
Lovely, pleasant, easy. Didn't enjoy it.
NO CAROLE YOU'RE ON A FAULT LINE, GET OUT OF THERE. OH GOD SHE'S FEELING THE EARTH MOVING. CAROLE! STOP SINGING! It's too late. She's gone. I think we can all remember Carole as the observant soul she was. She felt the earth move, under her feet. It wasn't the sky that tumbled, but the ceiling of her studio apartment. As of press time, I have learned that Carole King is indeed alive. This makes my tear-stained trudge through "Tapestry" sort of a waste of tears. Although, the soulful, gentle singer-songwriter ballads held some of my attention today. There is something warm about this album, and while friendly for radio play, there is no time where Carole King's voice doesn't carry the weight of an artist who cares about her work. With that said, I believe American Idol received half of its audition tapes featuring songs on this record. Yes, that is a criticism. Now is a guy like me (cynical, fat) really going to sit through a record like that for 45 minutes and slap a 5 on it? Sure you've got the sitting, but the listening. The listening!! I will leave the putting of 5 on things to Luniz. I for one will not be putting 5 on anything. I liked parts of this, but it's not for me. I can appreciate somebody who is clearly a talented songwriter, but I can also spurn it, in favour for Death Grips screaming about a schizophrenic episode or a cookie cutter death metal band ripping off Lovecraft. Also, will whoever Carole is talking about on this record just call her already. She clearly wants to be there for you. I can't listen to another song about her waiting by the phone. Doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore? Wait until Carole hears about polyamory. Tapestry 2 is going quadruple platinum. Well, not in my house, but somewhere. Presumably. 2 HIGHLIGHTS: So Far Away, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman
Not my cup of tea, unfortunately I'm allergic to cats :( but I loved the 70's sounds!
3/10
It felt like a lot of songs I knew from other performances, all done in a very boring, easy-listening kind of way.
A lot of people like this. I hate it. The Eagles came along, took some country music, sanded down all the edges, and made a popular manufactured version of the stuff that sold a million billion copies. Popular but watered down. I think Carol King did the exact same thing, but instead of country, she took that treatment to soul.
Taperterrible.
Probably the favorite album of your white middle-class mom who claimed to be a hippie for about two months in 1969. Sorry, it just doesn't do anything for me. Production is all right, there are a few nice melodies, and she is indeed a good songwriter. But I find her (slightly) nasal voice annoying, like a female Bob Dylan trying to impersonnate a classic soul singer. Then again, I've always loathed the alleged "singer-songwriter" genre, so I might not be the most impartial judge. I didn't hate it, but I was bored long before the end of the album. 4/10.
A touch tiresome, nothing original… pleasant enough, but instantly forgettable.
Tästä levystä huokuu että on luotu täysin ameriikan markkinoille. Ei vaan itelle kolahtanut mikään biisi tältä levyltä... Yritin jopa kuunnella pariin otteeseen.
Middling. No tracks particulary of note
Absolute snoozefest.
Mostly good songs, though there is definitely some filler. The problem is twofold - the best songs have better versions by the people who originally recorded them, and King's voice is lackluster, not up to performing this material very well.
Nice voice and I like the old school production artifacts but it's just a bit "meh". The album floated past in a pleasant but boring waft and I never felt the depth or vulnerability I hope for in a singer/songwriter or folk revival era record. Some nice song writing but even then the best songs were better sung by other artists. All just a bit too much like the sort of thing your mate's art teacher mum listens to.
Quite boring and dated.
Some really nice songs in there but too many piano-lead ballads get me a bit bored before the runtime's over.
Booooooring. Snoozefest.
Ehhh not my vibe.
its not bad but not my thing. easy listening pop, soulful
Just couldn’t get into it.
First time hearing and it didn't disappoint. 2.5/5
Singer/song-writer. Okay album.
A couple were okay.
Niet echt mijn ding. Niet echt iets uitzonderlijks te horen. (You make me feel like) a natural woman heeft het nog bijna naar 3 sterren gepusht, maar ik vrees dat het er toch maar 2 worden.
Nah
This is one of those albums that was huge in the 70’s, but a tough listen for me…I get how how she was an influential person in the singer songwriter era….I couldn’t hang through it.
Eh, okay but not for me
Meh!
I know this album is a beloved one of the era and has multiple stone cold classics. For me, it contains almost every sound of the era that I hate. Soft drums, sax, etc. It's not a 2 star album, but it is for me
Meh
generally musically uninteresting but inoffensive the ensemble sounds quite thin, there isn't much harmony lyrics are somewhat generic however, tracks 1 and 10 stood out somewhat 2/5
Listens: 1 Standout tracks: I Feel The Earth Move I only had a chance to listen to this album once. It was fine. The reviews say that its groundbreaking for a number of reasons. The lead single spent 5 weeks at the top of the hot 100 charts. That's insane. It's also something I don't really comprehend, because I was not even close to being blown away by what I was hearing.
Standard 1970s singer songwriter album. Nothing that noteworthy. A few hit songs that everyone knows. Won't revisit.
Despite You've Got a Friend being one of my fave songs ever, I don't like most of her music. I find it very bland.
Pleasant enough. CK has a nice voice but not much soul. It’s Too Late is a stand out. 70s easy listening versions of great songs CK wrote with her husband Gerry Goffin and writing partner Toni Stern.
Pleasant album, great voice, not interesting to me personally. Just not my jam.
I recognize a bulk of this album but I'm not sure where I've heard most of the songs. I do know "You've Got a Friend" is a popular JT track but didn't know King sang it first. Also, "Natural Woman" from Aretha Franklin but the rest are just classics I guess and have been featured in movies, commercials, covers, and so on. Not my typical go to but Tapestry is not a bad record to throw on for an easy cruise into work. Carole got a nice delivery and this collection of soft pop-odes didn't tune me out. Doubt I will find this record back on my playlist but not bad...2.2 stars.
Carole King's Tapestry takes you on a comfortable 45 minute ride. Her vocals are very cozy and laced nicely between some simple backing tracks. It's relatively minimalist in an effective way. This is a good example of a competent album from a bygone era. While it's not really in my wheelhouse and a little boring for my personal liking I can absolutely recognize it as something that would have had some impact. I can see how it would have struck a chord with many in the early 70's and why it would be highly regarded. Similar vein to Joni Mitchell but I'd land on the Carole King side personally. 2.30 stars
Some recognised song
Surprised by some tracks that everyone knows
Sounds more modern than it is, otherwise, I don't like it much
I don't know exactly what it is (I think its something in the audio mix) but the songs have something that makes me dislike the sound. I can hear parts I like in the songs but there is something in the back of the audio that just pushes me away from loving it. I listened to some of her songs from later albums and remasters and the feeling was gone. The songs sounded lovely and what I heard felt so much better.
Just not a fan.
This is definitely a significant album, as I did hear/read about it even before I got the book, and King was already a big name in the songwriting world prior to this thanks to her work writing for other artists. But the album itself just didn't stick with me. I felt it didn't do anything interesting for the genre. It was just ok. Key tracks: It's Too Late
OK, but not really one for me
This album really shows its age. It sounds old, at least partially due to the very folksy vocal performance. I recognized a few songs from cover versions. Overall, not for me.
Wasn’t familiar with Carole King’s deal, except for knowing that this is a very famous album. Looked her up while listening. Remarkable songwriting career! Lots of hits over lots of decades. Found this album to be a bit of a drag though, I guess just as soon as something starts to track as blue eyed soul, I go “I dunnooooo…” and unfortunately that’s what happened here. Rounding down, but still.
Love the. Cat on the album cover.. music was just okay 2/5
Beautiful at times but didn't fully immerse me
It's one of those albums that I haven't got around for many years, so it was my first listen. She is a talented singer-songwriter, and it is a nicely done album, no doubt. But I've found the album just boring, probably because it is too easy listening/middle-of-the-road for my taste and the songs just blend together. I've read raving reviews of this album so overall it was quite a big disappointment as I've expected something that I would like, but it just isn't my thing.
My rating has no bearing on how I feel about King’s talent. I didn’t know I knew any Carol King songs. Turns out this whole album is full of hits. I’ve seen the cover art before but had no idea what her music sounded like. Based on the art I thought she was going to be James Taylor style folk music. Little did I know I knew like 80% of the songs on here. It’s not for me, I wouldn’t listen to it again or go back for any particular songs, but at least I now know who Carol King is.
can respect it, but damn, i just cant. 2/5
Not my taste at all - why I appreciate the talent on display, both on vocals and the instruments (some of the guitar licks in the first few songs were very fun!), this is just not to my taste at all. A bit too light, a bit too sappy, a bit too "romance". I did genuinely like the first song - I Feel the Earth Move -, however! Probably because it was more upbeat!
It's good.
bland and generic for the most part. a natural woman was pretty good, I wouldn't want it in my playlist I don't think, but if someone was playing it out loud I don't think I'd want them to skip it. the rest was just kind of whatever though. 2/5 stars.
i listened to this album once on friday, and then I forgot about it until having to review it today. its not that it was bad... it just wasn't super memorable i guess. i think the only song i knew off this album was '(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman, which was great. Feels bad giving this a two... but trying to avoid the baseline three just because.
not my vibe
Pierwsza piosenka zapadla w mej pamieci, reszta to nuda bluesowo country damskie wycie, folkowa zamułka.
I feel like I am on hold. This should be tinnier and coming through a crummy department store speaker. In that sense it is a nostalgic trip into AM gold times. I just don't get this kind of soft music.
Just ok. Nothing special.
Straightforward singer-songwriter album; Carole King is clearly talented as both a singer and a songwriter, even if this music isn't really what moves me. This album feels like a good Sunday morning album (though maybe not for me). I'd give it 2.5 stars if I could; I don't imagine revisiting it, but I appreciate the skill involved. A nice break from the terribleness that was Kid Rock the previous day, lol.
Reminded me a lot of Joni Mitchell
A good example of an album where I can appreciate the draw and influence, but it's just not my thing. Standout Tracks: - It's Too Late - I Feel the Earth Move
i know she wrote 'em but there's no world where i would listen to these versions over the shirelles or aretha.
um album okzão
I feel the earthle çok iyi başladık. Sonra mıymıy. You've got a friend güzel hoş evet biliyoruz ama Melike Demirağ - arkadaş bin basar. Where you lead'in melodisi güzel ama sözler ezik. No, I won't love you tomorrow.
This is what I imagine retired Disney princesses listen to.
A little too folky and singer-songwriter for me.
Some popular songs (You’ve Got a Friend in Me) that I didn’t know were sung by her, but the album didn’t catch my attention
I dislike carol king. I don't understand why she is so popular with a certain set of people. her voice is not exceptional, her playing is reasonable, It's not like she was out here smashing barriers. Maybe it's literally just me but I didn't care for a single song. This was a very difficult listen. Two stars but I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
