Reviews (page 9 of 14)
nice chill album, some classics in there
Another album I really liked. The first few songs were the best. "Tapestry" has aged incredibly well over 53 years. Way better than "H.M.S Fable" by Shack. I reviewed that album a few days ago. 4 stars for "Tapestry".
Not my style, but definitely a classic.
This is a great album filled with classics we all know without realizing we know cause they’re just in our fabric as a culture. I liked this better than Joni Mitchell’s Blue which gets so much love. My silly opinion 4 stars
Great voice and great songs. They do start to all sound the same after a while, but I still enjoyed the album. Mid 4.
Think this just misses out on a 5 for me - the songwriting is great, but the arrangements are a bit too one-paced and her voice isn't quite strong enough to really wow me. There's not a bad song on the album, and there are plenty of really good ones, but I think it's telling that the best known songs on this album are all better known when delivered by someone else. A high 4 - easy 5 for the songwriting, just slightly let down by some of the arrangements and her voice being a 9 rather than a 10/10. 4/5.
masterful 4.5-5/5.
A powerful voice and some great songwriting. Carole King really shows her talent as a singer/songwriter on this album. Not really my favorite genre, but I absolutely respect and can appreciate the art.
All hits.
This was an album. Thoroughly enjoyed
i like the cat on the cover a lot
Super good
It is interesting how much I find that other people made a more definitive version of a song written by Carole King. At the same time, I love listening to multiple versions of the same song performed by different artists. Part of the beauty of the art is creating something that can be interpreted by others in their own ways.
Great tunes
Makes fun listening to. Somehow reminds me of Janis Joplin but relaxed.
I love Carole King. Great album.
favourited: beautiful, you’ve got a friend
a little sparse for my taste, but cohesive, cozy, easy, and absolutely the blueprint record for this sort of thing. 3.5/5
Amazing number of classic songs in here - I knew Carole King was one of the greatest and she’s so prolific that she wrote some of the most famous standards out there - but finding them on this record together - and then discovering that of the best selling records ever… stands to learn that even after so many years and so much music - there will always be gaps. It’s lovely.
Really nice album with some really good songs on it. 7/10
Absolutely lovely and really catchy. A lot of bangers too, just solid all around.
Yup. This is a banger.
Really reminds me of Janes Joplin, but a bit more pop style.
Favorite Track: A Natural Woman
Ok tier
Great album. Very floaty, lovely vibes. Very good listen and brought up some good and bad memories. But in a good way. First time listening to Carole King and she’s awesome.
Chill and very pleasing to listen to on an Autumn day
Solid album. I liked 4 tracks, the popular ones: I Feel the Earth Move, It's Too Late, You've Got a Friend, You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman. But the whole album was a good listen.
One of those albums where every other song was part of the background soundtrack to my childhood.
I never appreciated King’s music at the time it was released but I confess that I knew almost every song and found myself drawn in to her voice.
Is it really a cover if you're the songwriter?
I was expecting to be bored from a pop album like this, but a couple songs ended up really sticking with me.
Carole King is amazing, and I love her stuff. I'd heard most of this album before, and most of the tracks that I know well we spot on perfect and enjoyable to listen to. A couple of them (eg. Will You Love Me Tomorrow) were kinda mediocre, with the Will You just being too slow to really get into, but I still appreciate them for what they are, and the gifted songwriter that Carole is. Four stars.
carole cha meega singe und lieder schribe, da album hani mol vor paar johr scho glost, aber weiss nüm viel. i feel the earth move isch en seehr guete istiig, sie spielt super klavier und de song stimmt mega. so far away isch meega schön, de bass isch huere cool und melodiös, sie singt hammer. und mega eige. it's too late hani s gfühl magi mi dra erinnere. mag s pianoriff. und ich nimm ihre jedes wort ab bi allne songs bis etz. home again au meega nice. beautiful isch glaub domols nonig en uglutschte songtitel, und de song isch etz recht speziell. sie cha wüürkli songs schribe. way over yonder het es suuper saxophon solo. meega schöne song. youve got a friend isch meega. d bridge isch haammer. und würkli de bassman tschuttet. sie heten au ghürote. where you lead isch denn wieder standard poppige soul mässig. upbeat guet. will you love me tomorrow foht au wieder ah als möstis eigentlich kenne, ich glaub sie cha da afoch. herzzerrissende song. smackwater jack isch chli swampier magi. aso s tönt chli noch de swanpers. you make me feel isch soooo en guete so g find de lupfts gad nomel soooo guet.
This was Beautiful. Like I was Home Again.
Carole ate on dis 1
Ännu en klassiker. Ägt skivan en gång i tiden med då gillade jag inte den.
I remember this record seemingly always being on. In the car, at my grandparents house, on tv, etc. I’ll be generous for the nostalgia factor. 4 stars.
Уютный хиповский соул. Добрей и чище Джоплин
Solid singer-songwriter work by Carole. Very pleasant to listen to with great melodies but there are songs that just pass me by even if there's nothing bad. The excitement level isn't strong the whole way through. Maybe needs a bit more uptempo material that was more in the first side. Highlights: "So Far Away", "It's Too Late" & "Tapestry". 4 stars.
This holds up shockingly well for something from 1971. There's a bunch of stuff on this list where my general takeaway is "I get how this was a stepping stone in the evolution of this genre of music, but it's hard to appreciate it in the current day." I don't love this album given all the artists I've listened to that came after Carole King, but it also was not a struggle to get through. It's cheesy in parts, and sounds a bit dated, but a decent listen for chill music. 3.5
I cannot disrespect all of the bangers on this album with a lower score, even though I don't personally want to hear them again
Not a kind of music I listen to regularly (too much piano) but virtually every song a classic.
Carole King's 'Tapestry' is one of those odd albums where I've seen the album cover and name everywhere, yet I seldom hear anyone actually rave about it today (especially younger music enthusiasts). I assume she's more renowned for her songwriting chops as it takes very little research to find out that she was writing many songs for her contemporaries. Overall, the album's pretty damn good if a bit unadventurous at times. Still, you got a song like 'It's Too Late' that's a damn near flawless pop tune. The song 'Beautiful' is a perfect example of a motivational little happy-tune - its messaging puts a smile on my face. I feel similarly about 'Where You Lead' which might have my favorite production on here. Vocally, Carole primarily draws from the worlds of soul and RnB and it works relatively well, especially on the closing cover of 'You Make Me Feel'. Solid, easy-listening stuff that definitely holds up after all these years. I'd even argue that some musical aspects of this record were well ahead of their time.
opening song, makes you want playing behind you at this part of the movie of your life. Sax solo in way over yonder?! Good catchy songs, impactful lyrics, but I’m not sure it ‘advances the genre’. They are bops and I’ll listen again, and having heard the whole album a lot of them are on movie sound tracks so that untie thought was apparently shared by many 4/5
got some nice tunes flowing
A lovely singer and great tunes but you'd wish the mixing would've been better
One of my favourite albums of all time
Great album with many hit songs
Not something I would regularly listen to, but have to give appropriate respect to one of the defining albums and artists of the early 70s.
Iconic pop record from one of Brill Building’s finest.
Great album. 4.5/5
Starts off a bit boring, but get really good towards the end
Light, cosy 4 stars. Full to the rafters with lovely piano pop ballads but feels a bit plain after a while over the course of the album. I Feel The Earth Move and It’s Too Late firm favourites and definitive versions but a lot of these other classics that she originally wrote I tend to prefer by other artists. Smackwater Jack the one track I would cut back.
Tough to argue with. It only means so much to me, but it’s excellent. 4/5
Hits: I feel the earth move, Natural Woman, Will you love me tomorrow 4/5
Tapestry is pretty good, and I very much loved the title track, but I unfortunately didn't care quite as much for the rest of the album. "It's Too Late" would be my second favorite.
Just a good album. For me many songs are boring
Als ich das Album zum ersten Mal hörte, war ich sofort von der kraftvollen und emotionalen Stimme der Sängerin angetan. Vier Songs stachen besonders hervor , “I Feel the Earth Move”, “So Far Away”, “It’s Too Late” und das absolute Highlight “You’ve Got a Friend”.
So beautiful, especially the song by that name. Also has the Gilmore girls song, what a tune.
Estupendo disco. Gran exito merecido. Me gusta más la versión de James Taylor pero la canción tienes un amigo es muy buena
Such a nice album, could have given 5 if it caught me in the right mood.
A great album. Carole King has a great voice and makes cool music. The album isn't one of my top favorites, but it's worth listening to again. 4/5
Didn't expect to like this just based on the decade and style of the cover, but it was actually a great listen! Piano was grooving and vocals fit well, simple and clean. I thought the lyrics were lacking a bit though, repetitive and basic. Enjoyed this album and will be listening again.
incredible
almost gave it a 5 just because of where you lead, but i liked this album because i feel like it had a decent variety of upbeat and slow songs. i also listen to melancholy female artists 60% of the time so this was right up my alley. i also really like her voice so that made this a good listen for me
I love a voice that has some rasp… Amazing writer… I just feel like she’s kind of awesome so she can sing whatever she wants.
There’s a lot to say but I’m sitting in the Urgent Care …. So suffice it to say this is a really really solid record.
This is a soft rock masterpiece. Love that she wrote or cowrote all the songs.
just a great batch of meticulously crafted songs. i wish all the songs got the full band and orchestrations because those were definitely my favorites
I was not expecting to know and recognize so many of these songs. I have heard a bunch of these countless times, either these versions or covers, I don't know? They just feel like songs that are entrenched in out musical cultural now. Impressed these were all written and on the same album. Great morning listen.
Moms Favorite Album
Soft, easy, charming. This whole record is nothing but hits, with so many artists having done their own renditions of some of these tracks. Carole’s voice is welcoming and charming. The music she sings over is calming, which only makes me want to keep listening while feeling safe. Really beautiful record.
9/10
There are so many songs on this album like "I Feel the Earth Move", "Beautiful", "You've Got a Friend", "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" that have crossed my way serveral times, not knowing they are from Carole King‼ Unbelievable🤦♂️ I love her voice and I like every song on this album although it´s not my prefered style of music. Feels almost like a greatest hits album! Great achievement! 4,5
I’ve always liked this album.
Very musical softish pop rock made by a very talented songwriter. Songs are solid with good arrangements that give instruments space but also work together. Piano is featured often and serves the songs well without ever being over the top or virtuosic. Similar for bass…that seems to be the theme here- well written, arranged, and played songs where everything serves its purpose.
138/1001 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
Some real classics on here, and her voice is lovely throughout the whole thing.
some days i love it, some days i skip it. Shes got a beautiful voice but just not a never skip
It’s folk-pop-instrumental. There are some songs I enjoyed more than others, you kind of have to break into it, to fully enjoy and appreciate it. At first the recordings sound weird however, but then it gets better. 6.8/10
Really liked this album. It’s not all bangers but I’ve been giving out a lot of 3 star reviews so I’m giving this one 4.
Really like this style had fun listening to it.
Good album.
Excellent album....4 real bangers. Impressive.
I really dug this record. It's the right kind of chill and I love her viewpoint. I started more than one sone as I knew them but didn't know from where.
Wasn't familiar with Carole King - or so I thought... I knew and liked a lot of these songs, and never realised who sung them! A lovely album 4 ⭐️
Extremely solid - definitely deserves inclusion on this list for the impact on music history, but this is also just a solid collection of early 70s singer-songwriter/Laurel Canyon vibes. Besides the classic “It’s Too Late” there are a bunch of great tracks throughout the album. Definitely worth a revisit, adding to the Sonos library for frequent spins.
I Feel the Earth Move It's Too Late You've Got a Friend
Baffling that this is from 1971. Feels ahead of its time in style and quality. Good listen - had never listened to a full Carole King album before and I'm glad I now have.
The one to listen to if I'm in the mood
I really like this one. Nearly every song is a great listen. 4 at least.
An absolute masterclass is in how to write a song. But it still sounds like music for my grandma
In a way, I found this a bit disappointing, because my expectations were absolutely sky-high. That's not to say it isn't absolutely excellent, because it is. Maybe it didn't help to have it so close to Blue, because it suffers in comparison. I liked the sad songs a lot more than the chirpy ones, which probably says a bit more about me than our Carole.
This is the most 70s soft rock/singer-songwriter record ever. Hearing Carole King has generally evoked an idea about kind of generic sounding music to me, but I think that's because Tapestry just created a model of what 70s singer-songwriters sounded like. That all sounds like negative criticism, but I promise I mean it positively!
love it
King had been writing pop hits for over a decade before she finally decided to sing some herself. Included here are songs already made famous by Aretha Franklin and The Shirelles along with many other new tracks. This album is what I think of when I hear the genre descriptor “singer/songwriter”. Simply a beautiful album.
Was going to give it a 3. And then "I will follow" came on. And then the way it ended. This is a 4.
An all-time great songwriter with a lot of gems here. Somehow, no one else really sounds like Carole King.
Really great album. Such great songwriting. Can easily see why it is such a classic. 4/5
Excellent album 4/5
So many hits. Such a good vibe.
9/10.
Sumamente recomendable.
beautiful calming album. smooth vocals and instrumental lull in a hushing mood. My favorite song was definitely its to late but as an album as a whole I could barely find any flaws this shit was just incredible ong fr
Musucality through the roof. Note to 2024, get rid of autotune and get back to singing and melody making.
Some absolute classics on here, and really shows off what an incredible songwriter King is, but I often find myself preferring the covers of her songs to the originals.
Interesting to hear this album, but feels a bit like listening to Jim Steinman rather than Meatloaf. The songwriting is very strong, and if so many songs weren't more famous sung by someone else, then I think it would be excellent. As it is, it's just good.
mit dem Superhit I feel the earth move under my feet
Amazing, a time capsule of good moods.
Warm soft rock album. Gives off country vibes and makes you feel like your in a 2000s white girl sitcom. Many of the songs are actually quite funky too.
good voice, nice relaxing songs, but most songs sound very similar, they mostly start the same with an opening piano chord which makes each song start out sounding similar, but i have no problem with the songs other than that
Algunos temardos aunque el sonido no me resulta especialmente personal o particular. Un 3'5 que redondea para arriba.
full of bangers!!!
An easy listen that doesn't get boring. Quite a nice oldie pop right here.
Passionate vocals
Nice easy listening. I want some diner coffee now, and I can't explain why.
All time classic
this album kinda rules. first track seemed like standard 60s/70s fare, then it was just banger after banger that had me like "holy shit." Where You Lead, Will You Love Me Tomorrow, and Smackwater Jack were the only forgettable tracks (not bad, not skippable, just didn't leave an impression) but the title track did not disappoint, and the last track was a solid way to end it
Beautiful album
Amazing song writer
Not my usual thing but I actually enjoyed this album. There were some familiar songs on there and had a nice unpolished sound that is missing from a lot of music now.
It's pretty difficult not to enjoy this one unless your tastes are more extreme. A lot of great tracks on here
Notable tracks: I Feel the Earth Move, It’s Too Late, Home Again, Beautiful, You’ve Got a Friend, So Far Away, Where You Lead
Loved it
I liked this album it's definitely something I'd listen to again. The bass in all the songs is very good and the album itself has an interesting transition from beginning to end.
Gotta give this a 4.5
Have to admit, one of my least liked genres is the singer songwriter folk stuff. But man, I really enjoyed this entire album. This could be her greatest hits album. I recognized a couple songs looking it over, but once I listened, I realized there are so many hits off this album, so many songs that have been played on the radio. There is not a bad song off this album. Songs that I didn't know or don't remembering hearing that surprised me were Beautiful, lyrics are great, Tapestry, Way Over Yonder and Will You Love Me Tomorrow. James Taylor's version of You've Got A Friend can't touch Carole's version. And I can already hear the Aretha fan's bitching, "Aretha sings it better." Well of course she does. Aretha is the greatest female singer of all time, but you have to admit, Carole does a great job. This is another album I'm struggling with a rating. I've been raving to my wife to listen. I've listened several times, yet I can't see myself wanting to hear this day after day. But damn, this is a beautiful album. Cut out the flute in So Far Away and you got a 5 star song. I'm sure Carole King will be making her way into my music listening rotation. This is a very good album. I'm happy for reintroduction to Carole King. 4.5
Sometimes it’s really hard to separate nostalgia from the music. This album is a case in point. I admire Carol King’s song writing and I looked forward to listening to this album because it featured so large as I was growing up. It was still good but perhaps not as great as I remember. Consequently, still a 4*
Would be 4.5 if I could
Surprised by how many songs I recognized! A very good singer-songwriter album.
This was a pleasant listen
Quite pleasing.
Pleasant.
Not my go-to style, but undeniably a good listen. Great songwriting and performances here. Of the 12 tracks on this, I think only 4 were things I didn't already know. Carole's voice is powerful throughout; overflowing with passion yet somehow still soothing.
Stylistically it’s a bit middle-of-the-road and several tracks teeter on the edge of being bland and/or cheesy. You can imagine any one of these songs being given to an X Factor contestant to perform, which is always a bit of red flag. But it does what it does well and I have to respect the sheer weight of hits on this album. It feels like a masterclass of ‘classic’ songwriting from Carole. Funny to learn that the lyrics to A Natural Woman were written by a dude, though. 3.5
Carole King's "Tapestry" is a legendary album. Well regarded in every sense, every track is smooth and tasteful.
Starts very strong with “I feel the earth move” Understandable how this remained on the Billboard charts for 6 Years Every song is enjoyable, but personal favorites stand out as: I feel the earth move, It’s too late, Beautiful and Where you lead.
Honestly a very solid record , just a shame her voice didn't click with me.
This has been an exciting revelation about Carol King and her contributions to the industry. Song after song we recognised, despite not having heard of her before. After some research, it's clear she was a musical giant and we will be listening again.
Iconic album...
Great song writing
Beautiful collection of songs. Been waiting for one like this. Incredible to believe she spent 10 years writing songs for others before this record was released and she got to shine in her own right. Shame it fades a bit towards the end. 4/5
Tough to argue with. It only means so much to me, but it’s excellent. 4/5
First Album Foreword: This is the account of a person with god-awful music taste trying to expand their horizons, as of Easter 2024. My only requirements in reviewing these albums is that I must include my favorite and least favorite track, and a ranking out 10 stars. Also, I'll touch on my pretty simple procedure in order to maintain relative consistency. The process will be simple: Once the album is revealed, I must go directly to the album and press play, without reading/researching anything I do not already know. I'm doing this in order to document my natural first impressions of the songs without having outside context/opinions to tell me which tracks I should like. After the first listen, however, any research, re-listens, etc. is fair game. Some albums I might gloss straight through, write up a review and be done with- others I might listen to five times and end up further diving into the artist's discography before I write the review. These things are fine, but the main point here is that the album must MAKE me want to do those things. Each album is going to get as fair of a first impression as I can give it, but if I miss something in the album or don't think too highly of a song because it has to "soak in" first, that's beyond me. I'm not going to require myself to write 1001 and essays, therefor each album will get the length/quality of review that I feel it's earned of me. Now, with housekeeping out of the way, let's get started. I can already imagine now that future me will look back on this review and roll his eyes, for how overly optimistic I am about this project and the first album, but I just have to say to you, future Ben, man this is a good album. Have you listened to recently? Carole King has been such a weird name in music for me, along with many, many other prolific songwriters. I've heard her name many of times, often in conversation about the greatest music artists of all time. This is hard to admit, but often when I heard her name in such high regard I internally rolled my eyes, thinking, "Oh, another outdated nobody who Mr. XYZ thinks is cool to give praises to because their music taste is so much better than everyone else." Then I listened to this album and felt very dumb. Firstly, I need to say that if you had put me on the spot one hour ago and asked me to name one Carole King song, I couldn't have gave you an answer. Maybe in my best state of mind, I would've said "I feel the Earth Move," but only because of the iconic Becky Roach American Idol rendition of the track. Now, however, I'm cultured. Honestly, I think I recognized about 75% of the songs on this album. Some of them I know for a fact I've heard on my Pappaw's old radio stations on the way to the bottom to put out corn on a summer afternoon (descriptive, I know, but Carole's got me in that kind of mood). I feel that I understand the legend status now. Although I do feel that the album sounds pretty "of it's time," Carole's lyrics and sound is the perfect mix of simple and complex. She's easy to digest, and I know this due to the fact that I can say I enjoyed this album and many of it's tracks on first listen- something I often can't even say about some of my favorite artist's albums. She isn't hitting you with constant obnoxiously heavy metaphors, but her lyrics still speak to the soul. While her sound isn't exactly what I think of when I think "pop," I understand why she's seen as such a way-maker in the genre. Her songs are fairly short and packaged, but I feel she puts more focus into the lyrics rather than just making a catchy hook. I also want to compliment Carole's voice. I think her vocal delivery is a part of what makes this album so great. That slight strain in her voice when she sings "Something inside has dieeed," really makes It's Too Late one of my favorite tracks on the album. Her voice adds another dimension of story-telling to the album. I have very little music knowledge so I hope I can be excused for my lack of proper terminology, but the way she sings certain lines almost sounds like a groan, a plead, a sigh. For a singer-songwriter, I think she really holds her own in the "singer" aspect. This might be controversial, but I feel one star needs to be deducted for the fact that my two favorite songs are the album are covers: "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman". The other songs are great, and it's not that I have a problem with covers in general, but man, those two are really a step above the rest of the album, to the point I was conflicted whether I should reward it or not. Will You Love Me Tomorrow genuinely almost brought me to tears. The lyrics (although she didn't write them) are amazing, but as I mentioned, are just taken to another to another level by her vocal delivery. The slight shakiness in her belts (definitely not the proper terminology for saying that), just saturates the song with the underlying anxiety in the lyrics. Natural Woman is a song I've heard many times, whether it be at the end of rom-coms or in dating app commercials, but is not a song that I had ever sat down and purposefully pressed play on. While I admittedly need to listen to Aretha's version from start to finish, I just have to say, Carole's version just gave the song a whole new meaning to me. How good it must feel to feel like a real, natural, person. To have someone to love you for you, for how you naturally are. The black choir version I've heard so many times before always came across so two-dimensionally happy- this cover has layers. Carole's voice set to the piano really brings out the past-tense sadness in Aretha's lyrics. The song shouldn't have had to be written, but its existence makes us realize how twisted in knots this world can make us and how sweet it is to finally find the one who understands. In an effort to refrain from setting two high of a standard for my future 1000 reviews, I'll cut the review off here. I can see a future between me and many of the self-written songs on this album, namely So Far Away, It's too Late, and Home Again. While this opinion is bound to improve, I'll lock in these reviews, Favorite Track: Will You Love Me Tomorrow?; It's too Late (original) Least Favorite Track: Beautiful - Not a bad song but it didn't really resonate with me. Final Score: 8 out of 10
It's a classic. not bad
I was going to give it a 5 but 1/4 of the songs are not that great
God bless women.
Great stuff. Will listen again, the first four songs at least
Delightfully surprising. Few songs that I already knew, and did not feel the need to skip songs, which I do sometimes have with 'calmer' albums like these. 8/10
I thought this would be an easy 5. It is great and the songs are classics. A few years ago I got to see the show ‘Beautiful’. The seats available were at the very back/top of the theatre. I told my friend that they would be fine because we would be there to hear the music, not look at the actors. I was right, the music was great, the actors were little blurry spots and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. Should one hear this album? Yes. Is it a 5? Not for me, today. But it is a wonderful 4.
Tapestry gets a 4 because there are undeniably great songs on the album. But in every instance, I have to admit preferring other artists' versions of these songs to Carole herself performing them. From the production to the tempos to her sometimes strained vocals, her's are not my favorite renditions of the unmistakable classics on here. The other material, by definition, doesn't reach the same highs, so I think I'm more at a 3-3.5 in my personal affection for this album. But there's too many great tracks to dismiss this as anything less than excellent.
You read her bio and realize what a successful, talented, and real powerhouse of a woman she is. How might her stellar career be different had she been born in say 1989? I found this LP in 7th grade and it was on constant rotation until I graduated college. These songs are so familiar that they've nearly crossed over to trite. But active listening has me hearing her brilliance.
There were parts of this album I enjoyed a lot (the opening tracks!) - but there are a lot of aspects that I enioyed but kind of blended into the background a bit. I'm probably going to revisit it eventually but it scratches a certain singer-songwriter itch for me
I thoroughly enjoyed this and has really great songs!!! All time great but a couple of songs were only ok.
Amazing album and beautiful voice. Strong song writing, especially the hits. I don't have time for a proper review. Sorry, not sorry.
Pretty solid album start to finish. Surprised that I knew most of the songs.
Great collection of recognizable classics from Carole
Wow, so many hits but I’ve never listened to this album. Classic
Good pop record. Raw and simple.
She grooves and there's so many classics on here. 4.5 for me easily
My favorite song is Smackwater Jack. I really enjoyed many of the songs, namely "I Feel the Earth Move", "It's Too Late", and "You've got a Friend". These are the most played songs on Spotify so I'm with the pack there. I also didn't know You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman by Carolie King. It's been 8 dudes in a row, so nice to hear a great record from a lady. Solid album, would definitely play it again. 7.5/10.
Very good
Another incredible album and a high 4 star. Just great music, and it is nice to hear a females vocals for once. It fits this style so well. It isn't country but like a lot of music it has that twang. How did we go from this style being one of the most popular to people hating country and folk I will never know. Brilliant, another one I will listen to on repeat until I wish I rated it 5. Stand out songs: I Feel The Earth Move It's Too Late Smackwater Jack
Skøn! Timeless! Meget selvsikkert at kaste sig over et Aretha cover som afslutning på et album, ville jeg nok ikke have gjort!
Føles som en times musikundervisning på gymnasiet. God kat.
very good - had forgotten all those but not really my thing
I loved her voice and this album contains one of my favorite songs, but it's a 4, because it is a bit repetitive
Just a very pleasant listen.
Retty good
Very good. The best songs are It's Too Late and Tapestry. I just didn't think her singing style suited the chorus of (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman. But maybe I'm just spoiled by Aretha
An actual classic. Had never listened through before this app though. Saw Carole play with Steve Miller Band in Sun Valley in the late 2000’s as an appreciation to firefighters after the big fires (‘08?)
Très sympa, + un 3.5 mais je mets trop de 3
Delightful. One of those artists that if you didn’t grow up in the era they were popular in you still knew their best songs and didn’t realize it until listening to them again. There’s something about minimizing the filler on tracks and focusing on a primary piano sound with a little strings or percussion to accompany it that eases you into a song and feels refreshing.
The album Tapestry by Carole King reminded me of being a kid and listening to AM radio. Several of the songs were played on the radio, back in the day. I enjoyed listening to the album.
Big change of pace from what I typically listen to but liked it a lot. Surprised by how much I knew. Also she’s got a gorgeous voice.
Great overall
Absolute classic!
I went back and forth about whether to give this 4 or 5 stars! I really loved this album. I thought every song was so beautiful. I knew I liked Carole king, but never really listened to her. She won’t be one of my top artists for the year, but when I need to belt out a good song, I may turn to her. Settling on 4 stars bc I’m stingy and really want to be blown away
Empowering and iconic! Carole King belts it for you me and women everywhere. 8.5/10
M'agrada molt com comença, no és per res l'estil que m'esperava i m'ha sorprès positivament. Després segueix amb el mateix tipus de música i mantenint el flow d'una manera que fa molt agradable d'escoltar el disc. M'ha agradat molt. Expected Lorenzo rating: 3
Great album, a number of classic tracks and all very easy to listen to
Uplifting lyrics, good vocals
No complaints
Good album, great voice
Lovely album. Great lyrics and melodies
What a beautiful album. I have never given it a second glance over the years so was massively impressed when I heard it.
Carole King reminds me of my childhood when my mom would listen to this album while cleaning the house. Carole King has a superb voice and the songs on Tapestry are easily recognizable. Great talent, great album.
Carole King's craft as a songwriter is pretty unique
I'm starting to learn that I'm a sucker for 70s female pop singers. Unexpected but fun. This one's very good, but I constantly compared her to Karen Carpenter in my head and she doesn't quite get that high.
Beautiful voice, powerful vocals. 3.5
Great sound and voice, some classics on this album I actually recognized
What a great record.
UNA MUSICA MUY AGRADABLE CON ESE TONO DE VOZ
Terrific artful poetry, especially satisfying tunes reminiscing yesteryear
Listen you plebeians, Carole King wrote all these songs. She’s not covering shit. I don’t know why I bother reading some of these user reviews
Not bad!
some great songs on this one.
J'm'attendais pas à aime ça autant.
Honest hope for a nicer world. 1-7-0
Mega chillig! Rating: 4/5
Very nice. Lots of hits.
I was only 6 years old when this album came out. I have heard some of these songs throughout the years but have never owned or listened to this album...my mistake. This is a good album chocked full of good songs. This album still holds the record for most consecutive weeks at number one by a female solo artist.
Track 1: classic song good intro Track 2: I like this song very chill and I like the flute Track 3: I like the groove to this and the bass a lot and the hi hat and snare shots. Track 4: I liked this one very nice in my opinion. Track 5: another good song Track 6: I like the slow groove of this and the piano walk downs. And the saxophone is a really nice touch it really rips. Track 7: this song solidifies that fact that piano is a must for the album. Track 8: I like the background vocals and the synth is fun and it’s very catchy. Track 9: very chill vibe I like it. Track 10: I like the blues feel and the bass a lot. And the fun riffs by the synth. Track 11: it’s okay title track, not my favorite of the album though. Track 12: I like this emotion captured in this with it just being some vocals and the piano. Good closer and good way to cap off the album. Overall: 8.8/10. I really liked this one. I would definitely give this one another listen because it was a solid album!
Another good one.
This is very good. I think I just assumed it was going to be an Eva Cassidy style softness, but she’s got some grit in her lungs. The unpolished 70s production really makes it stand out too.
Non il mio genere preferito, comunque tanta roba
Finally a good album.
Awesome! Such a distinct and powerful voice. Definitely an all-time album.
Pleasant and triumphant, it's not surprising in the slightest that this album sold maybe up to 30 million copies worldwide. King's voice feels so casually beautiful, almost like when that one friend sings karaoke and you realize "Wow you can just belt out a tune like that no problem huh?" The songwriting is top notch, era defining stuff. Moments hook you in and swoon you before you realize half the album has gone by. "I Feel The Earth Move" is obviously the star here, a world beater of a song that is instantly recognizable and catchy.
I enjoyed this album. It's a very easy listen with a ton of memorable hits and some great covers as well. She doesn't sing with the flashiness of someone like Janis Joplin, but she's smooth in her own way, rarely straying out of her comfort zone, but executing with a beautiful precision. Highlights: I Feel the Earth Move, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman, So Far Away, Smackwater Jack, and many more.
Very soulful and personal. Carol King's music is like Taylor Swift singing in the style of James Taylor. Lots of falling in love, out of love, and reminding herself that she has value. There are some amazing catchy tunes like "I Feel the Earth Move," "You've Got a Friend," and "Where You Lead." I also loved the slower, "Tapestry." That last song is like country music married folk. A great combination. I think some of the upbeat songs rely alot on the piano, but the restraint on the guitar and drums prevent the songs from making me tap my foot. The lyrics are deeply personal and King's vocals are outstanding. Overall, a strong album worth of the list.
Such a good album, packed with songs you already know even if you think you do not. I had never properly listened to Tapestry before, but I really enjoyed it. There is something warm and effortless about the whole record. The songwriting is strong without being flashy, and the melodies just feel natural and honest. I Feel the Earth Move is full of energy and confidence, while It’s Too Late is beautifully understated and emotional. The album flows so well and never feels overdone. It is personal, reflective and quietly powerful. There is not a single track I disliked. It is one of those albums that just feels comforting and timeless from start to finish. Favourite songs: I Feel the Earth Move and It’s Too Late Least favourite: None. Nothing I hated at all. Album artwork: Simple and iconic. A relaxed portrait that perfectly matches the intimate feel of the music
This and “Blue” are their generations gold standard
A good album, real 1970-vibes. Nice and chill.
Muutama jotenkin tuttu biisi, näistä varmaan tehty covereita YOUUU MAAAKEEE MEE FEEEL 3,5/5
Wow, I knew a lot of these classic songs!
Beautiful voice, plenty of known songs, really solid album. It sounds a little bit raw in my opinion, at least the production, but that might be the product of time (this album is now more than 50 years old!). Very nice record, good addition to the list.
Banger after banger, hadn’t heard this before and didn’t realize how many hits/covers came from this album
4.5 I cant really think of a better collection of perfectly written songs out there. Ive listened to this a bunch over the years to try and get into it, but havent really yet. Carole, its not you, its me. 4 stars
I really liked this album. Lots of really catchy songs with great piano riffs and some really good vocal performances. A great album to have on in the background while doing other things. It did feel a bit same-y at times, but on the whole it was a really chill enjoyable album that I likely never would have discovered otherwise.
Rating: 8.5/10 Great album. Carole King sings with a lot of character and charisma, she especially shines on the ballads. This album is a great mixture of ballads, which are sung with a lot of emotion, and a bit more upbeat songs that more so showcase the instrumentation. The production and mixing of this album is fantastic, it really makes Carole King's voice shine as well as the instrumentation. I wish there was a little more variety, but this album is consistently great with no bad songs. Favorite songs: I Feel the Earth Move, So Far Away, It's Too Late, You've Got a Friend, Where You Lead, Will You Love Me Tomorrow, A Natural Woman. Least favorite song: Beautiful.
Great album. So many songs I know that I didn't realize was the same artist. let alone on the same album.
4/5
A set of timeless tracks that remind of a simpler, peaceful time. Carole King is so core to the musical consciousness, every man, woman, and child has been graced by her serenading voice at least once.
Honestly, a crazy amount of bangers and iconic songs on this album. Overall, I love it, but I wouldn't consider it one of the greats. Carole's lyrics are good, but they don't stick with me like some other lyricists do.
What a great album, don't think there was a song I didn't enjoy. Low 4.
This is what I imagine the 70’s sounded like all of the time.
I didn't realize how many songs I knew from Carole King. Albeit they were mostly covered by other artists. But this was a pleasant listen. I don't really have a bad thing to say about this record. Well written songs. It's dancy. It's beautiful. It's pretty timeless to be honest - especially with artists covering her music. There are soft piano ballads and doo-wop moments, lyrics are beautiful and well written. Her voice is great throughout this record and she effortlessly knows how to convey her message. It feels real and true. Great listen.
It's Too Late, Home Again and You've Got a Friend among the standouts. Interesting to hear this version of the song that she wrote and James Taylor also recorded. Strong overall.
Female James Taylor vibes in terms of how the album feels, especially instrumentally, and that was before hearing "You've Got a Friend". Standout is leaf off “I Feel The Earth Move” which has a vibing anthemic drive to it.
Good songs delivered by a warm, rich voice to simple, earthy music. Don’t need much more than that for a good album. Best song: Way Over Yonder
Amazing voice and songwriting. Such a classic album that I haven't heard in a while.
fucking excellent. best opener and closer combo since let it bleed. brilliant tracks. only 1 weak point being saltwater jack but still decent and the rest is brilliant. well worth the listen. 4.5/5
Absolutely loved "You've got a friend", what a gem of a song, straight onto my favourites.
Nice calm album, very relaxing Top songs: It’s Too Late, Smackwater Jack
Really nice album, I liked it. Bonus points for Gilmore Girls!
Enjoyed this album, first of many to come. The 1970s didn't have a lot of great things but this album had some great tracks and it's interesting to see how music has evolved from this time while still keeping a lot of the sentiment and passion involved in the songs.
Fijne koffiehuis muziek.
Been waiting for, actually, years for this to pop up on the list, it was just a matter of time. Truly one of the foundational gospel-type projects in the singer-songwriter space. Carole King killed it with this one. Fantastic songwriting, both as a lyricist and a hitmaker, and the music feels great. I'm always impressed to find how many tracks I recognize on here. It's a classic without a doubt, not quite a five-star listen for me, but it's not too far behind. A tapestry indeed. Favorite tracks: It's Too Late, Natural Woman, So Far Away, Home Again, Will You Love Me Tomorrow. Album art: Honestly not all that special, just a picture of a woman perched on the sill with her cat. She looks a little like a young Jamie Lee Curtis to me. As far as portraits go, it's pretty solid, and given how massive this album proved to be, the cover has become iconic. 4.5/5
Very good album for home listening
Really enjoyed this, she popped off here
Songs that span generations. Evocative, human, and American.
Very good, didn't realize how many songs I know despite not recognizing the name. Only criticism is it all sounds the same
Liked more than I thought, some ‘classics’ and all that
Lovely chill album
cool, not my type but nice songs
Extremely talented songwriter with a great voice. This record kinda set the tone for the upcoming 70's singer/songwriter sound. A lot of people like to call it the "maturing of the hippies". The kinda shit that the nice lady who frequents the farmer's market and wears turquoise jewelry listens to.
I'm starting to like these kinds of albums, and I can feel why it is legendary. It's simple but very powerful. Break up songs, songs about missing home, songs of love, it has it all.
Fantastic album! Beautiful songs and melodies, a true gem. =) Glad I found it.
Quintessential singer-song writer vaseline-lensed folk music. My mom and some former colleagues love this album.
Hatte banger, aber war auch sehr ruhig
Good sampleable songs
A lot of famous songs on this. It sounds so quintessentially 70s, but upon learning this released in ‘71, I’m assuming this was super influential on the sound of that decade. It’s not really my cup of tea, but it’s listenable and I can respect its impact.
Pretty great.
she's such a fucking icon
Well done album! Carries a similar energy to Janis Joplin. Great singing voice with heavy piano backings. Very simple and well executed throughout.
This is one of those albums - I don't love her vocals that much but there are at least 6 undeniable songs here. This belongs on the 100 albums to hear before you die.
I had no idea I knew this many Carole King songs. This is just pretty darn good from start to finish. And I actually like the title song! There's maybe a little too much lyrical repetition in "You've Got a Friend" and "Where You Lead," but maybe that's just me. Lots of telling friends they just need to call. Ehh. But speaking of "You've Got a Friend," I also had no idea that this version and the James Taylor cover were recorded simultaneously and released in the same year. What a cool little experiment that worked better than probably anyone could have imagined. This album has sold 30 million copies! That's a big ass number.
too late is an all timer Song great album
had low expectations but was absolutely blown away by how good the vocals and instrumentals were, super easy listening (occasionally a little too slow personally) but overall a beautiful album
Nice, chill - familiar songs
Pretty good. Sounds great. I enjoyed this album more than I thought I would. GILMORE GIRLS FOREVER.
wough...
One excellent album! So many hits! Simple, soft rock with a great voice! Highly recommend this one! High 4!
Fantastic album.
I recognized many of the songs which is always so awesome, but even if I hadn’t I still would’ve given a high rating. You’re able to tell that this album had (successful) influence. Really liked it.
Tapestry is iconic. Carole King is one of the twentieth century's best singer songwriters. Great album. Stand outs include I Feel The Earth Move, You've Got A Friend, Will You Love Me Tomorrow, and (You Make Me Feel) Like A Natural Woman
This album goes hard. Crazy Toy Story vibes throughout. Such an amazing voice to tie it all together.
Listened to this in the car with my wife who is an avid Gilmore Girl fan, I myself quite like the show as well. Carole sang us through a drive from Michigan as we appreciated the fall colors, and the juxtaposition could not have been more magical! An eclectic mix of folk rock, with singer-songwriting that could rival Dylan. The creativity is inspirational and the music lovely. Tons of hits, and tons of good tunes!
7 out of 10
A lovely album. She has a great, soulful voice.
She has a limited range, but she works it well. There are lots of well-knowns on this album, and also a few hidden gems. Very nice!
Amazing.
Nice little album. I can see why this is an all time classic.
After about a week I finally land on an artist I'd never heard of, and boy what a ride. A really great album propelled by some amazing songs to open it. Will surely listen some more in the future
Nice 70's vibe
I don’t know what it is about her voice, but wow. I really liked this one 4/5
Not 100% my cup of tea, it was released 2 years before I was born, but I can appreciate the beauty of these tracks. In fact the more I listened the more it grew on me. Carole has the kind of voice I like, kind of a more laid back folksy version of Suzi Quatro. Not every song is a belter but I’ve heard many of them before. My first brush with them was probably as a cover version and it’s easy to see why so many are covered. What did astound me though, was to learn that she actually co-wrote Will you still love me tomorrow first recorded by the Shirelles, which is the version I’m more familiar with. Arguably the most well known track on the album A Natural Woman, is the one I don’t think I’ve ever heard Kings version, having now done so I think it’s probably my favourite version. On the whole a great ‘easy listening’ album. Upgraded from 3 to 4/5 after hearing the final track.
Extremely good! Great original songs and fantastic re-imagining of Natural Woman.
Smackwater Jack is pretty fun Feel the Earth Move and Natural Woman are great songs not my kind of music usually but 4 stars for me
A must listen, great music
It’s a great album for a rainy cold day with a cup of coffee in hand.
Darn good writer. Such "real" lyrics that make you think you could have written them, and maybe wish you thought to... but of course you didn't get there. She did.
Great album -
Amazing songwritier. Fun to hear some that are known for other performers
"Tapestry" by Carole King is an enduring classic that stands as a testament to her songwriting prowess and the impact of her music on pop culture. Released in 1971, this album features timeless tracks like "It's Too Late" and "You've Got a Friend," which have left an indelible mark on the music world. One notable mention is the album's association with the popular TV series "Gilmore Girls," where the theme song "Where You Lead" was used in a version performed by Carole King herself. This connection added a new layer of recognition to an already iconic album. "Tapestry" is a masterclass in songcraft, with King's heartfelt lyrics and soulful melodies resonating with listeners across generations. While it might not be considered groundbreaking in terms of musical experimentation, its enduring appeal and cultural significance earn it a well-deserved 4/5 rating.
A pretty cool record! It’s smooth but not too whimsical. The second half instead was too quiet for me
Liked it way more than I thought I would. A bit jazzy but also smooth
I Feel the Earth Move - I was not aware that is Carole King's song
Nice album. Very relaxing
Rating: 8/10 Best songs: I feel the earth move, It’s too late, A natural woman
Nice pop album by a singer with a rich voice. Some great choices of songs to cover, as well.
The track list on this album is downright legendary. Some great songs on here (even if I think a few were covered better later). King has a wonderful voice that guides you through every song and lets you experience it fully. A great listen!
Slow But Great
With an album like Tapestry, I pay special attention to the non-hits on the album to determine their quality. There are only 3-4 songs on here that weren't a hit in some form for King or another artist. The non-hits like "Home Again" and "Beautiful" are excellent and well-crafted songs. This is definitely soft rock, but these songs are so flexible they can be covered and moved into another genre fairly easily. How often would I listen to this album? Probably not terribly often because though the songs are good, I've heard them so many times by so many artists. Wonderful album though.
hermosooo 8/10
