Reviews (page 12 of 14)

Mid folksinger in the era of great folksingers.

liked this album, probably will lsiten again

Great stuff. Earnest performance.

Lots of iconic songs

I Feel the Earth Move was a hit for her off this album. She does have a sultry voice. So Far Away was another big song off this album. My mom loves Carole King, maybe I never gave this a fair shake, it's certainly better than I thought it was going to be. She's like folk Janis Joplin, they both have very soulful voices. This is a pretty solid start, It's Too Late was another huge song for her. Home Again is maybe the best song so far though. This album is good, bordering on great. And there's You've Got a Friend...I like this much better than James Taylor's version. The back half of the album isn't quite as good as the first half, but still much better than I anticipated. This is a "cover" because The Shirelles did it first, but she wrote it...so I'm not sure if that counts. Not going to lie though, The Shirelles did it better. I'm thinking the same is going to be true of (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman. The title track leaves something to be desired. Aretha did it better.

It was okay but also very white girl in movie

Lo esperaba MUCHO peor

Such a great album, reminds me of being younger and listening with my folks.

Really fantastic singer, great music. Will listen to this again (most of these tracks)

Nice and chill, but doesn't really do much for me. Don't really get why this is special/different from any other 1970's folk singer? Not my jam I guess...

ja, feine Sache das bzw. feine Sachen dabei

Ahead of its time I feel. Few predictable moments but also some great gat riffs.

Not my type of music but nevertheless, decent record.

If not the most-cited, then certainly up there, source of the statement, I Didn't Know They Wrote That. Widely praised, and rightly so. A very pleasant listen that will stand up to repeated plays.

Another one that's, you know, pretty good.

Great, classic songs. I had no idea they were all from the same album. Maybe it’s not my style but I just didn’t think it was super interesting though.

iconic but very slow and whiny

Good but short

Pleasant, comforting sound with good vibes.

It was fine

not bad

This was a nice little toe tapper but most of it wasn’t super memorable. I Feel the Earth Move is a great song though, really enjoyed that one!

My Mum likes this album. It's nice to have another point of commonality. The vocal performances on this album are very good across the board. Same goes for the pop songwriting. The instrumentals are where this album becomes more polarising. I appreciate the addition of instruments such as the pan flute, though I didn't think the piano instrumentals were varied or interesting enough to carry the full album. While I do appreciate this album for being a pleasant listen I don't really have much of an opinion on it beyond just being a good time.

A bit bland.

This album is beloved by millions, so I want to be clear that I’m the one who’s wrong. But it just sounds like a decent pop album to me. One of my initial thoughts listening today was that the production sounds dated and thin. Top review on the album page for this project mentions how great the production is. I think, man, her voice is not for me. Top review is about how well she uses it. I think, lyrics are fine but nothing to write home about. Top review: these are “highly evocative” lyrics. Evoking what? Maybe top review just doesn’t know what words mean. Carole King: “winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call…” That reviewer: “wow that is all the seasons! I felt them!” I do 100% agree with the second review that women are underrepresented on the list. And I don’t have any issue with this being on the list, given its immense popularity. Still, between a 3 and a 4 for me. I really like “it’s too late” but that’s about it. Oh I do kinda like “you make me feel like a natural woman,” but I greatly prefer Aretha’s version.

the hits are good. everything else I can leave.

OK - a bit overrated for me - but I am ok with it.....

Never heard of Carole King before (?!) so this was a bit of a surprise to me. Easy listening, nice soft rock with a bit of country as well. Decent.

good but one of the best of all time? we sure?

Nice easy listening supper music. I listened to it at the gym. It did not fit the vibe.

Lots of hits -I Feel the Earth Move -So Far Away -(You Make Me Feel) Like a Natural Woman

Hell of a set of pipes. I just don’t enjoy a lot of the textures/instrumentation. Everything is so stripped down. Standout track is: “I Feel the Earth Move”

My expectations were super low for this, mainly because this feels like on of those albums you find forty thousand copies of gumming up the works at any used record store. Turns out there might've been a reason why so many people bought the album in the first place. Genuinely didn't know she sang "It's Too Late," love that song.

3 stars for me 5 stars for anyone 70+

I had never sat and listened to this album before, but the amount of iconic songs present here obviously makes this one of the best 1001 albums of all time, but I have this nagging feeling that the songs were all done better by other performers...

Most of it I’ve heard before. Good stuff.

Did nothing for me, but also I can't say it is bad.

Quite pretty. Quite boring. An album of tracks that I mostly know from other people playing them.

Not sure it my thing. But a few obvious stand out songs.

Better than London Calling, would give a 3.5 if I could. Not really a fan of just piano and vocals songs in general, but this one was pretty good!

6/10 Highlights: Tapestry I Feel the Earth Move Smackwater Jack

Caroline I treated you too harshly, you are no Giligan Welch. You are a perfect 3, cozy, safe and pleasant.

Maybe not my best friend, but we are homies with Carole.

6/10 Interessante album, testi estremamente semplici ma adeguati all'epoca. (You make me feel) A Natural Woman è iconica anche in Italia. Punto bonus per il micio in copertina.

very 70s easy listening. 3/5

I feel the earth move & Smackwater Jack were groovy. The rest was nothing special.

not the toes i feel the earth move- 5 so far away- 5 its too late- 4 or 5 home again- 5 beautiful- 5 way over yonder- 4 youve got a friend- 4 where you lead- 5 will you love me tomorrow- 4 smackwater jack- 5 tapestry- 4 natural woman- 4 or 5

Good 70s soft rock.

Loved the groovy upbeat bits. It’s got some character to it. Saved a few songs but probably won’t be itching to re-listen too much.

One of those albums that you know half of song but never think where from. Not my style

I was never very interested in this, but now that I've hit middle age it doesn’t sound too bad.

It’s a good album but not my genre. It’s one of my mom and her best friend Anne’s favorites, though!

Gilmore girls!!!

Good album. Amazing songwriter 3.5 out of 5

3.5★. Very cozy and a little dozy. Didn’t get to relisten

no wonder it sounded like it belonged in an episode of gilmore girls! this album really surprised me at i added quite a few songs to my library. my favorites: i feel the earth move, smackwater jack, and so far away.

Inte asdåligt. Inte asbra. Helt ok.

Love stuff from this time period and genre, but in the end only the 3-4 uptempo songs are very memorable. If I need a fix of 60s Laurel Lady folk, you know I’m going Joni 100% of the time. (Blue came out the same year.) Notably one of the worst lyrics I can remember from the last few months: “Rain is wet, snow is cold. Chills my soul right to the marrow.” And she put that in the chorus. Wanted to like this one more. Probably hits harder if you grew up listening to this, I did not. Maybe my tastebuds have just been singed off from too much Steely Dan.

There's so much space and breath between the notes, it forces me to allow down and listen. Excellent headphone album.

Carole King - Tapestry Honestly, this is not the type of music I look forward when listening, but I can't deny, that this is still good music nonetheless. I like how chill and melancholic this sounds, from start to finish. I really have nothing much to say other than the fact that, this is good! 1.- I Feel the Earth Move = 7/10 2.- So Far Away = 7/10 3.- It's Too Late = 8/10 4.- Home Again = 7/10 5.- Beautiful = 8/10 6.- Way Over Yonder = 6/10 7.- You've Got a Friend = 8/10 8.- Where You Lead = 6/10 9.- Will You Love Me Tomorrow? = 7/10 10.- Smackwater Jack = 6/10 11.- Tapestry = 7/10 12.- (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman = 8/10 FINAL SCORE: 7.1/10

This is pretty solid

Surprisingly good album. Broad range of song structure and styles. Better than I was anticipating, but not sure if I’d call it seminal.

Pretty easy listen. Having recently listened to Joplin on this albums list, I get similar vibes, though I prefer this sound more. I don't have much bad to say about this one other than it's not something I'd listen to off-hand.

It was fine

My mom loved Carole King. So long road trips back to Ohio from Alabama I heard this or Janis Joplin when she had control of the cassette player. And I heard Bob Seger or Jim Croce when my step father had control of the casette player. Of the 4, this one was my least favorite. It is certainly acceptable and her songs have stood the test of time, but not my cup of tea. I. do think Carole was a trend setter in her music and can certainly see why she was chosen.

Nothing especially notable outside of a couple of tracks

Amazing start into a disappointing downward trend, not bad by any means but just boring.

Albumi #120, 30.11.2024 Carole Kingin kakkosalbumi ilmestyi vuonna 1971. Albumi löytyy myös Rolling Stone -lehden 500 greatest albums of all times -listan sijalta 25. Ihan ok singer-songwriter meininkiä.

If I made an album, I would also put my cat on the cover. So I instantly like this. Its also nice to have a woman artist again. I've had 50 albums and 2 women so far? Ridiculous. Sounds is nice, easy listening for a Saturday morning.

A well produced and well mixed record. A few songs are indeed timeless, but the rest of the album leaves a lot to be desired. With a great lack of memorable melodies and vocal hooks, this record unfortunately can't stand side by side with other 70s records that stand the test of time.

Classic tracks, but don’t like the execution

It's catchy, but that's it for the most part. I enjoyed listening to King's powerful, dynamic voice, but other than a strong start I felt the album kind of petered out at the end. Still, it was quite good!

Well sung and written, but only the occasional song manages to break from the background to make a lasting impression

One of those albums where I knew all the songs, but never heard the album before. It must have been pretty popular back in the day.

This sounds dated but in the best way possible. The warmth of her voice accompanied with the piano reminds me of a relaxing Sunday (3.5/5)

+1 for Gilmore Girls

Smooth

It's... fine? Far too background for me to form a real opinion, she's got a lovely voice and there a fair few "oh, it's THIS song" moments, but overall it kinda does nothing for me. I only listened to it yesterday, and I've already forgotten most of the songs.

I wasn't going to listen to this, because I know I hate it. But I didn't remember any of the songs on it, so I gritted my teeth and stuck it on. Well, I don't know what the album is that I so hate, but this isn't it. Solid album, this. I wouldn't race to put it on again, but there are some really good tracks on it. It's overall an enjoyable album.

Good way to spend an afternoon at my desk doing administrative work. Tapestry was my least favorite song but the rest was pleasant and familiar. 3.5

No complaints here, score one for mom's music

The title track is one of my least favorites - it gets really into the folky singsongy territory we've had a fair amount of in this project. I am 99% sure this is also in the Rolling Stone list I listened to a couple of years ago and I think I still have about the same reaction. "Kind of fun" and "oh that's where that's from" and "oh that's who did that first" plus "oh the Gilmore Girls theme.....the rest of this is kinda....hmm"

Pretty solid album, wall to wall hits. Mid 3s.

decent covers

A warm and inviting project, it's mostly very solid and it captures the emotions presented very well. It's an easy and comfortable listen. However I don't see myself revisiting this any time soon, it just doesn’t stick with me even though I appreciate her clear talent. It's subdued and lacks variation. Best song: It's Too Late Worst song: Smackwater Jack

Musiquinha bem lenta e singer/songwriter.. Mas até que é legal. Gostei de It's Too Late e Beautiful.

I like the lyrics and the album cover than the composition. I Feel the Earth Move and Smackwater Jack songs are good.

I remember this in my mum's tape collection when I was a kid. Wouldn't have listened to it then, but if definitely give it a go these days as an older bugger. Sometimes. Easy three stars.

Some classic piano club music, soulful, very 70's

3.5 for sure!

There’s no heart and soul.

Very 70s! There are three famous songs here - “It’s too late,” “You’ve got a friend,” and “(You make me feel like a) Natural Woman” which I’ve liked because they are classics but overall it’s TOO seventies for me. Unless you were having a seventies-themed costume party or something.

Not bad, would give it another go.

I should probably be (and am) embarrassed to say that the only Carole King music I'm familiar with is the soundtrack she did for the Maurice Sendak animated "Really Rosie" series. This album is clearly not in that vein, and rightfully so. And I sense that this is probably one of her best albums, or I hope so since it's the only Carole King album in the collection. Unfortunately, it doesn't really do much for me, probably in part because I didn't grow up hearing her music, although I did enjoy "Smackwater Jack". Ironically, when I heard her two biggest hits on the album ("I feel the earth move" and "It's too late"), I immediately thought they were kind of weak, easy-listening covers of songs by other songwriters. I didn't really enjoy those songs on this album, but they're both good songs in other artists' hands, so I give her lots of credit for that. And that's true of many other songs on this album she wrote or co-wrote--especially "You've got a friend", "(You make me feel like) A natural woman" and "Will you love me tomorrow". I guess she's a singer's songwriter, as evidenced by all the stars participating on this album. Although there's nothing wrong with this album, it's just not to my taste, and I'm really glad it's been so incredibly successful over the years. It makes me wish my parents had this album around when I was a kid, as I'm sure I would have an infinitely greater appreciation for it now.

I remember when this came out--I was 8 or so and it was huge. Still, I never listened to the actual album until this morning. Brilliant songwriter when she's at her best. I've heard her big hits performed by stronger singers, so my favorites on this album were the songs I hadn't heard before, e.g. So Far Away, Way Over Yonder. The title song kind of sucks, sorry to say.

3☆/5 10.14.2024

The good ones are really good in the bad ones are really boring

Pleasant album, good songwriting and singing. But just didn’t engage me that much :/

Some absolute classics and some songs that have not aged well.

What a great songwriter. Sadly, less of an artist. Pleasant enough.

This was fine. It was enjoyable but not memorable. Sorry to disappoint.

it is incredible how Carole King wrote and sang everything (at least I heard so) in this album. Despite not being the genre I prefer, I enjoyed the album quite a bit. But to be honest, this album is like a textbook example, like a solid, good all-around album but nothing extraordinary stood out to me. It is like talking to a pretty girl but she is boring, or an honour student who is good at every subject but at the same time not excellent at any.

Relaxing. 3/5

'Will You Love Me Tomorrow?' en '(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman' pik ik er even uit, die beiden bekend zijn bij mij als waanzinnige soul/r&b singles. 6,5/10 Highlights: It's Too Late Will You Love Me Tomorrow? (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman

7,5 Highlights I feel the earth move It's too late Natural woman

i used to be so frightened

Sounds very different today. Familiar tunes but not so captivating.

Earnestness shouldn't be bad on it's face, but damn if half this album hasn't been used to near-comic levels in movies, tv shows, and other pop culture to indicate varying levels of poignant moments (So Far Away, It's Too Late, You've Got a Friend.) There's no doubt Carole is an amazing song writer but it's really hard to listen to the hits objectively - and the rest of it wasn't all that striking but for a general sense of ...well, earnestness.

pleasant but unremarkable

3 - Not my thing but “Its too Late” was a good song

Comforting, but oddly disappointing

Formidablee

Pleasant one.

It's fine. Not fine enough that I want to listen to it again, buts there's certainly some classics on here.

decent

Great, I have heard it’s too late before but had no idea who the artist was. Thanks.

Nice little background music. I wish I could give a rating out of 10, or even halves up to 5, so that I could give the better meh albums a 3.5 and the worse meh albums - a 2.5, but I can only rate in full numbers, so this is more of an okay album that is nice playing on the side and not really something main to concentrate on, although it is not too bad.

Folk rock

Not bad but very similar sounding songs. I get why it’s on the list, but this is a 3 star for me.

It's alright.

It’s really good. It’s just not something I often reach for. An extremely high 3.5- mostly just to distinguish it in this contest- a 3.

I wanted to like this more. Reminded me a bit of Joni Mitchell

A very pleasant listen. Carole King was undoubtedly a songwriting genius, and I have much respect for her. It's too late You've got a friend (You make me feel like) A natural woman are the standouts. However, I just gave Cat Stevens 3* for Tillerman, and this is a similar vibe, so I'll have to give the same here. Pleasant but wouldn't be rushing back to it.

This is #day6 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... again, I have neither seen nor listened to this album/artist before. But I can play a guessing game by looking at the artwork: singer-songwriter pop, early 70's folk, some Joplin/hippie vibes maybe? I don't mind. Just look at that cat looking at you! This is a beautiful morning album (somehow, I get to listen to all of these albums in the morning). A kind of music that begs the vinyl. Cozy music, if you will. I Feel The Earth Move and It's Too Late are personal favorites. But there are other gems here like You've Got A Friend or Smackwater Jack. I'm giving it a 3. Looking forward to #day7.

Nothing wrong with a little Carole king, but I wouldn't seek it out

This feels like an album my parents would love. If they'd had the CD, I'd probably have listened to it many times over and grown to like it too. But this is my first time listening to it, and it's nice but doesn't resonate with me. I think if I gave this a chance and listened to it a few times it would grow on me, but I don't have the patience for that. A solid 3 for me

Maybe just overexposure but I enjoyed the "deeper cuts" more than the big hits, most especially Home Again. Couple of skips on the second listen-through.

Cool album with nice vocals. 3/5

Listened to this a couple of times and I really don’t get the hype at all. Lots of piano ballads.

There are some great songs on this album. A great songwriter....I think this was the first album that really gave her recognition.

These are great songs, well written and well produced by a great vocalist, but it's totally not my jam, lyrically or musically.

The music is pretty simple, but the songwriting it top notch and I can see how this would be both a hit on its own, but also how covers with stronger backing music and different style could hit and elevate the tracks in their own ways. An enjoyable listen all the way through. Well mixed and calm Standouts Tapestry I Feel the Earth Move 3/5

Well, I guess that Carole King is a top notch songwriter, and this album set the template for similar singer-songwriters but really not my cup of tea.

Heard before recently through this previously. I commented on not knowing I feel the earth move was CK. Wasn't in a rich to hear again.

Nice album, easy to listen to. Easy 3 for me.

not really my thing but sheesh i've heard every song off this album before. lotta hits.

It's great to hear this valedictory example of Carole King's writing genius after her spell as a hit-maker and marriage to Gerry Goffin. Her own spare and fully inhabited versions of these songs are a revelation. But there aren't actually that many crackers on here, and I find songs like 'Smackwater Jack' 'Beautiful' and 'Home again' a bit annoying for some reason. 'So far away' is the star of the show I think, Joni levels of longing. Absolutely an essential album, but not quite the cavalcade of bangers you might expect.

Definitely a classic album. Lots of song were hits. 3.5

Pretty bangin album

Surprised by how many of these songs I knew. Didn't hate this, but would never actively listen to it again.

Turns out I knew several of these songs.

Voice + piano, Carole King made it looks easy

3.5ish

Day 17 - June 18th, 2024 Not a big fan of her genre of music, but the album was enjoyable. 3/5.

The kind of music my parents like. Very nice, obv a classic, however didnt wow me.

Another record that was part of my initial record collection. In hindsight, this is a little too mom coded for my taste these days. If Janis Joplin wasn’t a hard rocking drug addict POV. The writing is great, the arrangements are awesome, but it just isn’t up my alley anymore.

Feels like smoking cigs while the bar is closing

3 every song was good but nothing really grabbed me

when it's good it's very good. when it's not it's... extremely dull

Smooth sailing, Carole. Side B kinda stalled the boat, though….

That’s a pretty good listen nice chill album for a drive home after work didn’t know three of those singles were her, but I guess I never really knew who the artist was for those singles in general so when when when

could i write poetry to this? n

I Feel The Earth Move It's Too Late You've Got A Friend (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman

5/10 Good, nothing special. Best song: Where you lead. Worst song: So far away.

Just because all of these songs have gotten stuck in my head at one point doesn't mean I like this album.

If I was a chick, I'd give this 5 stars...

It was OK.

Lovely

Could go harder

Easy listening album

Not my favourite

Carole can write a tune, some absolute classics and enjoyed it. A lot to be said for living in Laural Canyon in the 70s.

very chill

Cool mais sans plus Son très vieillot

2024-04-01...

Not my type

One of the best singer songwriter albums I've heard on the list, but it does get boring after a while. It's above average for an album. Her voice isn't strong enough for several of these songs and that's why they were better covered by other people.

pretty good. I don't think it sounds particularly special, good melodies, good voice. Just good. But for '71 maybe it was boosted by originality or something.

Music was totally fine. Great kitty on the album art.

vrij chill wel, 3

This is the kind of contemplative songwriting that you listen to, and it makes you want to go do something about whatever problems you have like the songwriter is singing about...anything as long as you don't have to listen to the songwriter complain anymore. It's very pretty and gentle, and just so damn depressing. So yeah, the whole singer/songwriter genre runs the risk of that, and that's why it's one genre that I just can't get into.

5.5/10

This album is fine. I didn’t like the opening track, I Feel The Earth Move. My least favorite part of the album was the super plucky piano. It made some of the songs feel like a hickory dickery nursery rhyme or something out of a Disney soundtrack. Wasn’t sold on her storytelling. The songs feel upbeat and peppy, but kind of a chore to listen to near the end. The songs following the first were some of the best of the whole experience.Standouts: So Far Away, It’s Too Late, and Way Over Yonder.

Pretty chill album. I liked the cover of “Will You Love me Tomorrow?”

BL: Know the name but know nothing about King, therefore this is pretty much a blind listen AL: Fairly strong songwriting throughout, however the final two tracks are what really stand out in this album, absolutely immense listens, especially the closer. Worth listening too but nothing phenomenal FT: "Tapestry", "A Natural Woman" 3/5

God stemme, lyder lækkert!

I had high hopes after the first song but unfortunately the rest didn’t really live up to it. Still a good record though

idk why i love the album cover

3/10 would listen again

Favourite Song: You've Got a Friend A serene, relaxing album that I really enjoyed.

Great album full of hits! Easy to argue the importance of Carole King, some of the songs on this album were massive hits for the covering artists. Really liked this one, I was familiar with some of the songs.

Uplifting. Who doesn’t love it?

I liked this. Great background music, and as my dad said: great for a first day.

Despite not being my style of music, it was easy going and Carole has a great voice. Recognized a couple songs, always helps lol.

So far melodic. Made me feel serene while listening. Faves so far: Smackwater Jack, You’ve got a Friend, Where you Lead, It’s too late

Enjoyable, several recognizable songs.

It was nice, not quite my cup of tea but I wouldn't mind listening to it every now and then. Like I wouldn't be mad if my partner was obsessed with them, but I wouldn't share the interest

Simple but so good. Chocked full of soul, with good variety and depth.

Lovely voice, some big hits. I didn't really care for her covers of Will You Love Me Tomorrow? or A Natural Woman. Best track: So Far Away

I remember my mum buying this album on CD in the 90s and hearing it played a few times. Like most albums of this era, the years have not been kind. The sound of the recording is flat and muddy and Carole's voice is definitely not the best. Add to this that the songs are just middle-of-the-road love songs. The only song that remotely hits anywhere near good is "It's Too Late". The whole album just feels tired to me. 3/5 is being generous.

It’s fine

Can’t argue with Carole King. Enjoyed

6/10 Iconic voice and great songs

I’m not really into Carole’s music but this album is really good. I could listen to it a few times a year for sure.

A classic. Not really all to my taste, but her version of Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow (as original writer) was very worthwhile.

Not my style, but you can’t dispute the popularity and prominence of much of this collection during the 70s and beyond.

Heard about this foundational work before. Timeless album by this singer-songwriter, there are quite a few gems here (and recognizable classics, Where you lead and Natural woman). It's unfortunate that overall it isn't quite my bag. Sounds a lot like Gene MacLellan, which is a shame because I really like Gene's voice and work.

Several classics, but not for me, too easy-listening

Wall to wall classics. It’s a good album. Good vocals. Good piano. Good hooks.

laid back but good music and engaging basslines. 3

I had never heard of this artis before and I very much enjoyed it. Interesting trivia was he was married to Miriam Makeba. This was a long album so I need to listen more but 4 stars because I can’t wait to listen again.

Pop, 1971 -> 3

I hear the lyrics in this one!

A solid album featuring some of the greatest songs. I really love a lot of Carole King’s body of work. But I have to admit that as an album I get a bit bored by the end. 3.5/5

bring on the classics. Solid album of not my type of music.

Worked in a record shop as a teenager where half the staff worshipped this album. Never been a big favourite of mine but it's grand

Helt ok

Interesting

A great album from a successful female singer-songwriter of the 70s. So cool that she wrote most of her own music, including hits by other artists of the time! Likely a real inspiration and template for many successful women in music after her. The music was nice, relatively bland, but seemed significant. I enjoyed this album. Definitely 3.5 stars, not quite at 4 though in my opinion.

This was a nice chill album. I was impressed by carole's vocal quality and I quite liked backing/mixing. There were a number of songs I recognized that I never knew who the singer was. 3.5 stars

Quality rock music not entirely my taste

Boogie woogie fr

First of all a cat on the album cover is really cute. This album is soothing, peaceful and feels like a conversation with a good friend. If you need to cheer up this is your choice. Not a catch for me though

Nice vocals, recognised quite a lot of these songs from covers

3/5 - Solid

# 134 : Not too bad, some nice songs and nothing is wrong with this album. She can definitely sing. Favourite track : Its Too Late

She can write. Great tracks that are iconic... for other artists. Piano work is good and the depth of emotion across the album is great. But these are the demos. Great mixes but they're demos to pitch to other artists.

Not my usual thing, but pretty good.

A nice relaxing quality to the songs on this album. I liked Feel The Earth Move and You Make Me Feel (Like a Natural Woman).

I have tried for decades to like this album. I respect Carole King enormously. I appreciate her songwriting a great deal. Her songs performed by Donny Hathaway or Aretha Franklin are as good as it gets. But there's something timid about this record that bores me through and through. Her thin nasal voice doesn't move me. The production almost matches. The backing track performances have that bored-studio-cats flatness. And just the endless parade of earnest introspection unbroken by mirth, imagery, or storytelling becomes tedious.

Love the Gospel influences. Has some very good songs and is overall pleasant to listen to. Tends to feel repetitive though (the individual songs as well as the album as a whole). 3,5 stars Favourite songs: - You've Got A Friend - Smackwater Jack

Tapestry has been certified 14× Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America in the US, and has sold an estimated 25 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time. DAMN! I like the picture on the album cover. Seeing pictures of the 70s makes me think that that's the time my mom and dad were probably dating. Simpler times. When connections with people were done in analog. lol. I wonder if I'll know any of the songs on this album. Oh sure enough! So Far Away. It's too Late! Of course...You've Got a Friend...Will You Love Me Tomorrow..Marisol sings this sometimes but I think it might be a cover that she sings. You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman too? Damn! I can see why this album got so much hype.I wouldn't seek this out on my own. I can only give it a 3 though

Music was good and she has a good voice, but not my thing.

This feels like an important album both within its accolades above, and I just feel like I've heard mention of Carole in the past. Despite that, I thought this was an OK album with some covers too. Not sure if every song was a cover, or if she is the person who first created these songs but somehow I doubt it.

It sounds like an album that could bring great nostalgia if you had a connection to it.

It's Too Late is a bop.

Not the sort of thing I'd typically listen to but was surprisingly good

it’s too late slaps so hard

I really liked her voice and singing style. I like that she can sing with power, but not all the time shouty and also mixes with milder modes. Not so much into the songs though. Probably in 1971 they sounded special

I think I should stop calling every second album "same-y". Looks like it is just a concept for 70-80s pop stuff. This sounds palatable, I could probably give a second listen to some tracks. The amount of devotion bordering on stalking in the lyrics is a bit alarming. However, in the titular track Carole sees a man turn into a toad, and then Gandalf shows up to take her for a walk. What the hell is a Natural Woman? Does an Artificial Woman exist?

Songwriting powerhouse. Mostly enjoyed it.

A classic (but not for me).

A little too samey. Great voice and often times great songs

So much feeling. So much soul. I knew so many more of these songs than I expected and I enjoyed learning about Carole King and her incredible influence on music history. Beautiful album.

Really classic songs.

Listened Before? No Album Art: 3 / 5 (cat + woman; its a vibe) I've definitely heard I Feel the Earth Move, but can't say where or why. It's a jam for which the production does no benefit. Instrumentals rip with a meaty bassline and plunky keys with some guitar noodling. Song is soulful bordering on disco. Okay so I'll admit this wasn't one of my closer listens. I recognized a few songs and found the ones that I didn't know to be nice if not exactly the style I would go out of my way to listen to. I understand why many probably love this album, but ultimately it didn't move me in any specific way. Pretty instrumentals and vocal work in pop-folk arrangements. 3.5 / 5 for me on gut feel, rounding down. Added to Library? No Songs Added to Playlist:

Started off very strong for the first 2 or 3 songs I thought this was going to be a sneaky 4 album. But then slowed down and lost me after that. Still a very enjoyable album and Carole King is a great singer. 3.5 for sure but rounding down because of the progression of the album.

Love I Feel the Earth Move! Never knew who sang this one but it's great with some solid soft guitar in the background. Same with It's Too Late! Great chill song. She has a pretty beautiful voice. Kinda tapered off there in the middle but finished strong af 💪 with (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman

carole from hr CAAAAAAAAROLE

I liked it.

This is an album in two halves. Some of the absolute best songs of the entire 1970s are on here. Also, some of the most forgettable. It’s a weird combination. Wildly inconsistent.

Nice authentic album, beautiful raw vocals

Carai, tava pensando “pff… lá vem, nunca ouvi falar…” e curti vibezinha. Adicionei a “It’s too late”, me lembra pop japones dos anos 80. No fim acabando 3 músicas, gostei do sentimento.

Nenhuma me fez pensar "caraca, que música animal".

Liked the one song that I knew

Chillen carpwrteresque

Nice songs, good voice but would I sit there listening to it? Probably not

This is the first album to pop up on this site that I have never heard of before; but just from the album art I can tell this is going to have an extreme 70's melodramatic hippy vibe. oof, this is gonna be a long listen; I don't know what happened, but I used to have a much higher patience tolerance when it came to music. Now if the structure of the songs are super basic or predictable I become bored so quick. It's funny, the less I paid active attention to the music, the better it became. I kinda zoned out while working and it made me feel more relaxed than I was expecting. Definitely a lesson in judgement here I suppose. So it turns out I have for sure heard both "You make me feel" and "I feel the earth move", so now I know who attribute them to. Wanted to give this a 2 at the start but will probably bump to a 3. It's actually pretty peaceful honestly.

Really funky, not my favorite but I did enjoy listening. All in all a great album but not for me.

Didn't realize So Far Away was by her. I've only heard the Rod Stewart version before. What a beautiful song. I've heard It's Too Late on oldies stations growing up... not too big of a fan. Way Over Yonder is beautiful. Very soulful and demonstrates her great voice. I've heard you've got a friend before, pretty good song. (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman is a classic.

- African American music influence evident from the beginning and consistently through - honestly really good to work through -because of the AA influences x it being during the 70s -> I have a hard time with musicians not being explicitly pro black because you know racism rampant - some songs you already know (You've got a Friend; Where You Lead)

Nice piano, pretty relaxed vibes with a couple bangers in there.

hmmm gud first song. brought up my mood

A record of the highest quality. The song writing is exceptional and it is easy to understand why it sold in bucketloads. Personally I find it all a little twee and rate it as such.

-CAROLE KING!!!!! oh my god what a week im having -start with MJ and now carole king -fun fact my mom HATES her music like fully can’t stand it -carole king is so right about feeling the earth move under her skin -i do like this song i have heard it before -these songs are very good, which honestly i was expecting -ngl her voice is a little boring but its nice -overall this album is good but a little boring for me tbh, giving it a 3 star rating

Gotta give it credit for being a major hit machine. Problem for me is I find these hits a bit boring for the most part. I’ve long appreciated this album but also have not gone back to it since I first heard it, until it came up on this list.

Piano voix, style jazzy/folk/soul.

awww selma bouvier

I knew more songs that what I originally thought I would. Nice chill music but not my go to.

This was OK. Most of the time these "singer-songwriter" types can't really sing, but she actually can. It's easy listening, just a bit boring. Not really my thing, but good enough to earn a 3/5.

Carole King has a beautiful voice, but on a lot of these songs I would prefer to hear the originals, I do like her version of natural woman but not as much as Aretha Franklin.

Really good melodies and vocals and harmonic cooperation between them. Does drop the intensity a bit in the second half of the album though. (69%)

Gilmore girls banger

I'm usually not into this kind of stuff, but I enjoyed a decent amount of it. "It's Too Late" was easily my favorite track here.

Decent

Average

Solid arrangements and versatile. I initially expected this to be repetitive, because the last few albums categorized as “ singer/songwriter” have definitely bored me. But the point of this entire website is the challenge myself to listen to albums that I might normally not, so I kept listening and almost immediately realized that each song was completely unique. It’s often beautiful though not necessarily always my genre preference. I’ll add it to my library.
