Reviews (page 10 of 14)
I love how raw and unpolished this album is. Just Carol and her piano. My only complaint is that I didn't really care for her version of "Will You Love Me Tomorrow."
det här var bra. mitt första möte med carole king
How can you not love Carole King, classic, icon. The songwriting is masterful and the melodies engaging. I could sing so many of these songs by heart.
Veel bangers. Erg vermakelijk
8/10
Whats not to like ! Iconic, soulful, pure class. One of the all time great albums.
I’m so pleasantly surprised
Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: I loved it! So calm and melancholic, very dreamy and I could have this playing every Saturday morning Favourite song: Track 3 - It’s Too Late
Classic songs. Good album.
Great record. Cat photobomb cover. Would Carole King again. -//- This record deserves a lengthy review detailing all of Carole King's genius from the lyrics to the performances and more but I'm unlikely to write it today. While it's not a record I listened to as a kid, this is an album I've come to know quite well over my life. It's welcomes me back whenever I return to it. It's like the cozy sweater. Tapestry has never let me down.
im lonely, im confused, im in a sweltering costa looking for jobs. im practising griffiths electrodynamics which i should have known from years ago and im stressing out about it which is all quite absurd. i have had album after album on this thing that mean nothing to me. then "oooooh baby" and my heart is singing and dancing. it sounds melodramatic but this is the first proper emotion i have felt in weeks. carole king is such a gentle spirit. her aura is so warm. i do not however like the title track. there is something pompous and just a little bit silly about it. i think "you've got a friend" is my favourite. its always refreshing in art to hear such simple and wholesome affirmations of love - it can be far to easy to try and be sophisticated. a simple message comes like an arrow much more directly from the heart.
an all time classic. the legendary carole king, a talented songwriter before she started putting out albums. she is a true badass. fun fact: “i feel the earth move” is about her man giving her a big ol’ orgasm. so, there’s that. highlights: “i feel the earth move”, “beautiful”, “will you love me tomorrow”.
Just listened to this a month or two back. Solid record.
Hieno levy ja upeita biisejä. Ei ehkä töiden ohella ole parhaimmillaan, mutta raukeina kotihetkinä todellakin.
nostalgic Favorite Tracks: I Feel the Earth Move, It's Too Late, Beautiful, A Natural Woman 4.5/5
Decent 7
yllättynty JÄRKYTTÄVYYS naamani aivan HURJANA kun näin kuinka populääriartisti...en koskaan kuullukkaan.. noh huomaan miksi. SANANTOISTOA.... sitä rakastetaan. mutta musiikki rallatus hyvää. kynäviekka kuulemma.. noh en siitä tiedä...14× Platinum bitchass dumbass en kuullukkaa tämmösestä...mitenmbvittua noh täytetty tämä reikä musiktietämyksestä mutta heh ei ole toinen nainen vitosta saamassa gg... i feel the earth move
very good. one of those albums where i'm like "Ohhh that's where this song is from" multiple times. Got this on vinyl now too
Beautiful. Easy and intelligent listening
Great album. Familiar without ever listening.
Loved it. Will listen again.
Whether you were a college or high school student in the 1970s, Tapestry was everywhere. Full of incredibly well crafted pop, it's songs were inescapable on the radio at that time. Even though it was seen as "chick" music, guys had this album too, if for no other reason than their girlfriends liked it. Probably the best singer-songwriter album of the era (James Taylor sucked in comparison), King avoids the narcissism and melodrama of sop many of her contemporaries. While she remained a brilliant songwriter, King never reached the heights, in both quality and popularity, of this album. How could she when it's damn near perfect.
I loved this
4 star schmaltz, I love it.
Hauntingly beautiful, what a voice
Soft sounds and good singing
Loved it more than I thought I would
Enjoyed it, found out Gilmore Girls used her song for their into music so nostalgia central. Also sounds like an album my dad would love
Just as solid as can be. Hits galore and great album tracks. Hypnotic sound
She really is a bit of an unsung hero, musically, isn't she? Pretend this is a 4½ star review.
I love this album, I listened so many times, “I feel the Earth move” is the best.
beautiful album
Great Album!
Some classic songs (beautiful, natural woman), some that didn’t age well in this era (smackwater jack), though they all work together in what is an extremely cohesive piece of music.
A lot of hits on the album. Liked it more than I thought I would.
She has a fantastic voice and is an incredible song writer. It's produced really well too.... I would give it a 5 if I thought I would actually choose to listen to it. There are some absolute classics on here though: I feel the earth move It's too late Only getting a 4 as I'm not sure it's quite my thing, but I can appreciate its great and I did enjoy it
After the first listen I was impressed with the album, but did think it was a little like a jazz-singer album full of covers. Then I started looking into the album and found out all songs are actually written by Carole King herself. And that the reason I thought it was an album full of covers was because she is just an insanely talented songwriter.
A classic….this type of music is not my cup of tea, but what a great albumm.
Just 12 well-structured, sequenced and instrumented, good old-fashioned songs. A great record.
I thought this was meant to be a classic, it's just a load of covers! I am of course joking, legendary song writing, classic performances. Just not really for me.
Beautiful singer/songwriter album with a simple, unfussy sound built on top of strong, sturdy songs. Lots of positivity in the lyrics too. “I Feel the Earth Move” and “You’ve Got a Friend” are classics I’ve heard since childhood but never thought about who sang them. A few other songs sounded familiar here too. Cool to find out she co-wrote “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” too. Her version here is good! She has a nice singing voice but I can see why she found a lot of success writing for other artists. She’s an exceptionally good songwriter.
Solid bluesy classic rock album with a really tight opening track. I feel like I could repeat that chorus hook all day long and not get sick of it. I love that pause in the "I feel the earth (pause) move". It feels like her voice really locks in with the rest of the band- almost like a puzzle piece, in a really organic way. I'm actually pretty unfamiliar with her. This is an artist that I guess my mom and dad passed over listening to / exposing me to when I was growing up. That is outside of the track "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" which was on the radio a lot. That's a killer track (although not this version, I think the one I heard most was Aretha Franklin singing). Great album cover, and I love how nonchalant it is, and I think having the artist name and album name both on the same line and with the same font / weight is pretty interesting. Usually in graphic design this is a no-no because there's not really a separator that shows that one is the name and one is the album title. For a new listener they could think that her name is "Carole King Tapestry". Overall this was a great listen. Super enjoyable.
Loved this - forgotten how many good songs there are on this album
Beautiful. Great lyrics and music.
Used to the “THE” Album…today it’s good, but over played over the years.
Solid.
The biggest fallacy commonly held by the standard music fan is the assumption that a song is somehow more meaningful or authentic if the singer wrote the lyrics themselves. A minute’s thought would dispel that notion, yet plenty don’t want to think for even a minute. Everyone can name a cover version better than the original (if you can’t, feel free to adopt the suggestion of Hendrix’s All Along the Watchtower). That basic counterexample should invalidate the assumption, but I fear many will assert that covers don’t count, and that what they’re railing against is the production line of songwriting, of songs treated as industrial products. They object to the treatment of songwriting as a mere business expense. I admit, such an attitude has some appeal. But if we keep at that vulgar practice called thinking, we’ll see the flimsiness of such a stance. Are we to denounce Motown (even the name harks to the assembly line) because they employed two Hollands and a Dozier? Also, the fallacy slanders the singer, reducing the person actually singing the song to a cold-blooded hack. If we somehow, almost beyond the realm of possibility, continue thinking, we’ll clock that what people object to is specific songwriting enterprises. They object to Max Martin and Stock, Aitken and Waterman. Those are fair objections. The corollary to that family of objections is that we should revere certain other bodies of songwriters. Carole King has been part of that esteemable songwriting oligarchy since the Shirelles took the King-co-written Will You Love Me Tomorrow? To the Billboard No. 1 in 1960 (yes, the proper title has no "still" in it). King’s co-writer was her then-husband Gerry Goffin, who provided the lyrics to King’s music. The couple would craft many corkers of the 60s until their divorce in 1968, after which King left for Laurel County and slowly gained more confidence in performing herself. With her solo career developing over this period, in 1971 King cut the monstrously successful Tapestry, an album oft considered the peak of the 70s singer-songwriter boom. Tapestry would spend 313 weeks on the Billboard chart, the second-longest time spent on the chart by an album (the longest time was spent by Dark Side of the Moon, by the by.) Much has been made of the domesticity of the album. On the cover, we see King holding a tapestry and lounging with her cat Telemachus. The music itself reassures, and frequently King evokes the image of home as warm, secure and nurturing (think of the German word Gemütlichkeit, the sense of cosiness and belonging). This extends to the album’s treatment of love: King does not wail with passion and rhapsody, but instead sings with a gentle cordiality. For instance, compare King’s version of Will You Love Me Tomorrow? With the Shirelles’ earlier hit. The Shirelles sing with teenage earnestness and insecurity, and King sings with an adult desire for something more than a shag (although a shag is hardly an undesirable result). Yet I prefer the Shirelles’ version. Likewise, I prefer Aretha Franklin’s version of (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman. I don’t think I’m being boorishly contrarian by avowing such a preference. Does the album suffer from better versions of a few of its songs floating out there? I can’t really pretend that Aretha Franklin didn’t exist, can I? Of course, this is not to say King’s take on these songs is bad: they are good takes. Tapestry is a very good album. But if Tapestry is a house, then it’s haunted by the possibility of other, stronger vocalists singing these songs. Again, this is not to say King sings badly: she doesn’t. But I would say she doesn’t sing that distinctively. Could you pick out King’s voice from a line-up? You could weave the argument that such ordinariness is the point, since this is a domestic album. But these are songs, and songs are meant to be sung. Adept songwriting is only part of the equation. The recipe may look good on paper, but you still need to cook it. NoRadio, signing off.
pretty good and so lovely, but quiet monotonously
Chill plus hon skrev gilmore girls opening tydligen så goat
Great and cozy singer-songwriter album
Haven't heard this music since I was a kid and it was on AM radio. I thought of it as adult music then, but now she seems like a teenager. I definitely didn't appreciate it as much then. Contains a lot of what is missing from pop music today: Heart.
Very good ballads. Good keys/pianos, basslines, vocals and melodies
A good album, I just need to be in the right mood to enjoy it.
A good blend of soul and light rock. The lyrics feel real and talk about interesting dilemmas of love. This album is a classic, and has some of my favorite songs, but does have some songs that slow down the pace of the album I feel like. 4/5
Good hits
King utan Goffin? Jodå.

Amaai i like this. Carole, ik kom nog eens terug
Good 7/10 on first listen
I knew more Carole King songs then I thought.. I heard of her name of course, but never linked the songs to her. The album is great, you can hear she is a great singer and songwriter. I enjoyed the album a lot. Favourite songs: - it’s too late - you’ve got a friend - where you lead
This is real nice. Lovely songs, really solid instrumentation, good singing. There's not a single track that feels out of place, they're all consistently good across the board. I'll definitely listen to this again. It wouldn't be a common go-to, but it'd work wonders at a dinner party or something, but also as a good rotation option for when I'm in the mood.
I was surprised to know how many of these songs I knew as covers, its great stuff though, really great voice and beautiful piano work
This album hit me off guard. I had heard of Carole King before but I had no idea that she wrote and sang these hit songs, let alone all on a single album. Incredible.
Beautiful Carole king, this is a great album, with so much feeling on You´ve got a friend and an amazing interpretation on You make me feel. I wonder if this was a hit back in the 70s, its so complete, blues, joy, piano ballads and riffs, and a great voice, loved it.
I don't own this album, but being of a certain age, most people I know do. Tapestry is one of the top selling albums of all time, so the odds are pretty good there's a copy in your parents home and for good reason, it's a classic record. From an era when albums were at it's peak, this record contains so many hit singles, making this King's "greatest hits" album and when listening to it, you'll probably recognize most of the songs or have heard them at some point. This album is the gold standard for female singer-songwriters and though I don't own a copy, it certainly is an essential listen for anyone that enjoys good pop music, which I do.
I'd already heard this album. So many great song: So Far Away, I Feel the Earth Move, It's Too Late.
There are some absolute bangers on this record. King is seen as one of the best songwriters around and that’s for a very specific reason. One highlighted here. Song after classic song.
All time songwriting/storytelling from Carole King. Probably has like 5 or 6 surefire classic hits that I had heard before but never realized they were from Tapestry. Only reason this doesn't hit five stars for me is because it's a certain mood that you've got to be ready for. Not my typical go-to, but I can really respect and appreciate the artistry here.
Another one of my mom's all-time favourites, and an album I've known to be beloved by many for a very long time. This morning was my first time listening and I can see what the fuss is all about. A great way to start the day - good voice, good vibes, good times! I wouldn't be surprised if my rating goes up on this with some revisiting
4,5? Herbeluisteren
Super cute album. 70s pop rock is always my vibe.
This album is low key was really good. So many songs have been covered. Also troll cat on the album cover
Super comforting. My mom used to blast this one.
For as unassuming and mellow as this album is, it totally belies the power and gravitas that King has. Amazing.
It's one of those albums that everyone knows and loves. It's fine for me, I can go without ever hearing it again - but I cannot deny that it is good.
really pleasant actually Its too late specifically is goated 4.5
So good. So mellow.
You learn something new every day. Today I learned that the person singing on this album does not play Latka's wife, Simka Dahblitz-Gravas on Taxi. The album is decent and brought back a lot of memories. Most of them included listening to the AM radio while standing up in the front seat of my parents' Caprice Classic as it cruised down the freeway to pickup my dad from work. Child safety, meh. Great trip down memory lane. I feel like James Taylor is somehow tied to this album too. I don't care for JT, but I did like Taxi, Latka & Simka and that behemoth of a car, the Caprice Classic.
I knew “Tapestry” was famous and renowned, and we even have it on vinyl (as a boomer parent hand-me-down). But I’d never listened to it. Just a look at the song titles immediately sounded familiar though. And for many who grew up with boomer parents in the 80s, I’m sure it does feel very familiar. Listening to it, the album was filled with familiarity. So many hits! But they weren’t all as I remembered them…? Though I at first worried there were a lot of covers on “Tapestry,” the truth was close but far more interesting. Many have performed these songs both before and after Carole King, but they are King’s songs. And what she and her co-writer(s) accomplished over the years as pretty special. Her versions might not necessarily be my favorites, but the songs still sound great in her hands (and voice).
This album gets better every time I listen to it. I personally liked it better once I knew that Carole wrote, or co-wrote, all the songs. The most impressive accomplishment is that Tapestry held the record for most consecutive weeks at #1 by a solo, female artist in the US Billboard 200. 15 weeks at #1! That’s 3.5 months!!! The record stood for 40 years until Adele showed up with 21. A couple of these songs were famously covered by others. I really love James Taylor’s version of You’ve Got A Friend, better than Carole’s. But now I appreciate that Carole wrote it.
Fantastic songwriter, lovely voice and piano. Wonderful tunes that survive the test of time.
- SHOCKED to learn that the Gilmore Girls theme song is actually on this album
4.5/5. Today I learned that Carole King wrote You've Got a Friend AND the Gilmore Girls theme song.
Expressão fundamental do pop setentista, sendo que nunca é tão tarde para apreciá-lo. Pois desconhecia.
Gentle, warm, easy.
It's been a week of re-listening, as about 4/7 albums are ones I'm already pretty familiar with. So it is with Tapestry, one of the best selling albums in my immediate family (There's probably more than one copy of Tapestry in my family house) and also the world. Not much to say; can't find a weak link in the tracklist, the piano in this album makes my ears smile. Maybe this bored me when I was younger, but I've come around. HL: "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow", "You've Got a Friend", "I Feel the Earth Move" December 13, 2022
There are a lot of good well known songs on this one. I know the many hits she wrote that others have sung. She signs in a way that sounds like she is at peace. After one listen, I would have been willing to give good odds that her wiki story would not include tales of substance abuse.
My co-judge & I agreed that this album is a bit of a chick-flick, but there’s a bunch of great songs on it. Carole King is one of the great song writers of our generation and wrote/co-wrote a decade’s worth of hits (for others) before she released this album. Many of these songs defined pop/easy listening radio in the early 70s and although the 11-year old me quickly moved on to a more anti-establishment sound, songs like "It's Too Late" and "You've got a Friend" will stay with me forever.
Just a beautiful collection from one of the great songwriters. Some of the songs appear to overlap, so certain phrases echo between songs (You’ve got a Friend and Where You Lead come directly to mind). Since this captures a time in her life, there definitely feels like a mood that is common in some of the music. But the expression is just gorgeous, so getting more good stuff is fine with me.
This album has quite a few good songs on it and it's a solid album all together. I'm a sucker for music like this, and I do enjoy her voice. My favourite songs were So Far Away, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow? and It's Too Late.
4.5
3.5/5
This is really good. I think she has a perfect voice for the genre. Musically i can't say too much, but well composed anyways.
Beautiful songs and a great voice
The album is really cute, it starts very strongly hits a bit of a lull in the middle and ends strongly again. The songwriting is top-notch and instrumentals are really nice to the ear. "I feel the Earth move" and "It's too late" are the ultimate standouts for me.
Melodisesti tämä on lähes vertaansa vailla, ja King on laulajana liikuttavan, epävirtuoosimaisen pätevä, mikä sopii täydellisesti näin sävellysorientoituneeseen levyyn. Ainoa selkeä miinus tulee sanoituksista, joiden tyhjyys ja geneerisyys on huomattavaa jopa kuuntelijalle, jonka ensimmäinen refleksi ei ole kiinnittää huomiota sanoihin.
Dat was echt een zeer aangename verrassing. Mooie songs, prachtige stem en dito teksten.
Great songwriting. Insane number of hits on this album. Not a perfect collection, but damn close.
It's quite rare that an entire album worth of songs works with as sparse instrumentation as on 'Tapestry', but the extraordinary songwriting skills of Carole King are more than enough to carry the entire record. I don't feel the same emotional connection to 'Tapestry' as to for instance Joni Mitchell's 'Blue' from the same year, but there are still so many strong tracks on this - 'So Far Away', 'It's Too Late', and the amazing (and frequently covered) duo of 'You've Got a Friend' and '(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman'. Crazy that 'You've Got a Friend' won two Grammys in the same year for two different recording (King's and James Taylor's).
There’s absolutely no denying the songwriting ability of Carole King. Tapestry is filled with hit after hit, the musicianship is excellent and King always feels extremely present in every song. I don’t feel the same emotional connection with the songs and album in general as I do with Joni Mitchell’s outstanding Blue from the same year. There’s just something lacking here that makes me feel more like a bystander to a great experience than being included in the ride of the album itself. With that said it’s hard to actually dislike anything about this and with both James Taylor and Mitchell featuring and songs like “I Feel the Earth Move” and “You’ve Got a Friend” it’s no wonder Tapestry is still considered a true classic.
Great album. If not for Smackwater Jack this would have been a 5 but that track while alright feels weird here. I've grown to like it but it still comes out of nowhere and completely changes the vibe of the album. Other than that it's truly a masterpiece in storytelling and minimalistic arrangements.
Growing up in the seventies, this album was constantly on our giant hi-fi stereo that filled up the entire wall of our living room - the wall with the checkerboard mirrors on a black painted background. It was prominently displayed at all of my friend's houses too, it seemed like every parent owned this album. I was never much interested in it at the time. It wasn't The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Cream or The Doors, so it didn't really make it's way into my consciousness other than seeing the album cover everywhere. Now that I'm older than my parents were back then, I can appreciate this album much more. It's really a monster of an album, with almost every song being a timeless classic. The other thing that strikes me about this album is the pure positivity. Almost all the songs are about friendship, love and being supportive. Yes, it's still a bit too easy listening-ish for me, but I can't deny this is an outstanding album. 4 stars.
Beautiful voice and songs, damn does who made all these awful versions of You've got a friend (-:
Ça sonnait presque comme le meilleur album de tous les temps après la musique des autres dégénérés de suicide là
kingggg
I haven't ever owned this album, but it somehow feels very familiar in so many ways. Maybe it's the generation of musicians who all had the same style. How many different versions of "you've got a friend" exists? Taylor's seems more popular?
I had doubts about this album since so far, many of the female singer-songwriter folk albums given to me by this page weren't particularly of my liking. Fortunately, this album managed to break that "curse", with extremely good lyrics and a beautiful voice. Also, it has a cute cat in the cover :D
Sweet, simple album. It's beautiful and easy to listen to, but it misses the "interesting" element to make it a 4-5 album for me. 3.5 / 5
Full of incredible songs
4- Really good. Pleasing.
Really liked it - listened twice and will lok for more by her
pop icon
Fab.
You’ve got a friend is one of the first songs my mom asked me to download for her back in the Napster days, we used to spend hours searching for old songs from my parents youth… good times. This is a great record
I like it
Great vocal performance after great performance of this bluesy singer-songwriter soul. And Beautiful? …I felt that. Fav tracks: So Far Away, It’s Too Late, Beautiful, Where You Lead, Sweetwater Jack
Decent
A nice collection of songs. Not much else to say really
Beautiful lyrics, fantastic vocals from Carole King. it's a little too slow for my liking but this album just feels like a warm blanket on a cold day
Like “Will you love me tomorrow “
It has a Radio 4 feel about it nowadays but its undoubtedly a unique, beautiful voice
Filled with classics but there are some songs on here I've never heard. Too easy listening these days
Seriously good song writing. Not something for constant play but ideal for an occasion.
first listen this album is a ray of sunshine
At least 6 hit songs off this album. Carole King us a gifted song writer. Classic singer songwriter album from the 70s
An album that I've seen so many times in thrift shops and used record bins but somehow its content never made its way to my ears. I'm glad it's done now. Feel-good soft rock with folk undertones that is just as good as any of the great records of the same genre that were released around that time.
Very nice album full of mellow songs and soft feelings. Certainly deserves its place on this list.
My second listen to this one (RS500). Appreciated it more on this go.
Super fucking solid man.
The album was a lot better than I expected. I even knew some of the songs despite never having knowledge of this artist. Solid 4/5
It's really lovely. More upbeat than the two songs you never stop hearing would suggest. Amazing voice but even more amazing at conveying the emotion in that voice.
Carole King immediately seemed like a peer to Elton, so I was chuffed to see I had correctly predicted Tapestry's proximity to Madman. There's less here, perhaps, but that means less to go sour. It would be bland if the layers didn't get laid down, one by one, blankets to lull but never to make one sweat. What I'm saying is that mom rock is a particular kind of comfort, but one I think is valuable.
Quickly catchy songs with a bright sound mixed with softer and more melancholy moments. Excellent music for sitting down and relaxing to.
Solid British pop/rock album. Definitely a root album for early Radiohead style songs
I have to give credit to my brother for championing Tapestry before I had even heard of Carol King. It's easy to see (or hear) that Carol King is a fantastic singer/songwriter. Simple, tender songs with beautiful piano and a soft-yet-soulful voice brings this album together. A wonderful, easy listen.
What a great songwriter. Some of the arrangements a little clunky to these modern ears, but almost flawless otherwise
Clearly a significant album that belongs on this list. Of course, I knew many of the songs, even though I have never listened to the album from beginning to end before - probably because I saw it as to MOR for me. Which it is a bit, but I still enjoyed it
After the first 3 songs, I thought this was going to be an easy 5, but there are definitely some misses here, like "Home Again". Still, the strength of the good songs keeps this at a 4.
Nice easy listening with some familiar songs.
I’ve listened to this album previously and really like it.
4.5
Really chill
Certainly a solid album. A lot more hits that I realized. Not something I'd listen to every day, though.
Only 5 or 6 songs most of America would recognize
Some of the songs on this album are iconic, so I think this album is required listening for any music fan. I probably wouldn’t listen to it again, but I’m glad I finally did listen to it.
Never been much my genre but it's still a really solid album.
Didn't listen enough but seemed good
And, isn't that what we really want whenever that special person is around, to feel the earth move under our feet and the sky tumblin’ down, and our hearts start to trembling? It’s a joyful opener that grabs the listener by the hand for a spin around the room, only to then take an immediate U turn with the next two mournful but thoughtful numbers, ‘So Far Away’ and ‘It’s Too Late.’ In addition to sounding pure Southern California circa 1971- Curtis Amy’s fluttering flute, Charlie Larkey’s melodic and tasteful bass accompaniment, and Danny ‘Kootch’ Kortchmar easing into soft blues guitar solos throughout- the tapestry of moods on 'Tapestry' is also very 1971 America, revealing her bruised optimism and hope’s endurance beginning to falter. There’s a lot of blues and soul on this album, but different than the African American blues of the south, the soul of Motown. Carole’s is softer, along with her tender piano playing and rich, soothing voice. It doesn’t hurt, either, to have the assistance of the likes of James Taylor and Julia Tillman on harmonies. And may I suggest that it’s a pretty ballsy (or the female equivalent, ovarysy) move to end your LP with a cover of Aretha Franklin’s ‘Natural Woman.’ But, again, Carole puts her own soft spin on it, not competing with the Queen of Soul, but instead making it her own. Kind of a coffee house Aretha. Lyrically, in songs like ‘Home Again’ and ‘You’ve Got a Friend,’ gifts like love and family, care and healing are honored and celebrated. The tapestry image was very popular in 1971, and no doubt overdone, but what I like about Carole’s usage is that rather than degenerating into clichéd homiletics, it goes an entirely different route, gradually blooming into a fairy tale. And ending mysteriously with the appearance of ‘A figure grey and ghostly beneath a flowing beard. In times of deepest darkness, I’ve seen him dressed in black. Now my tapestry’s unravelling, and he’s come to take me back.’ Lots and lots to ponder here with an open imagination. 'Tapestry' always takes me back to my childhood- I was 12 years old in the summer of 1971- and beginning to feel ever so unsettled by my own innocence slipping away with the onset of puberty. (How may I possibly convey to a generation with access to internet porn about how liberatingly sensual this cover photo was to a pre-teen in 1971?) America was struggling with the loss of its own innocence as well, and this LP never fails to raise both joyful and sorrowful memories from that season. But the healing beauty of Carole King’s performance still offers a soothing balm.
Songwriting masterclass, many of these have better cover versions but can still appreciate the craft
Qué tres bombazos!!! "I Feel the Earth Move", "It's Too Late" y "You've Got a Friend". Impresionantes canciones que no sabía de quien eran. Esto me reconcilia con la lista de los 1001 discos. Gracias por enseñarme música.
Amazing, +1 for the cat.
Really enjoyed it, fantastic piano, great singing
Seminal album. Not my preferred genre, but the artistry is evident
I really liked this one. Very good road trip vibes
Not much of a fan of CK, but this album has some all-time classics on it. Really good album. Great song writing.
Solid front to back. Album definitely has the hits. Only medium sappy.
Not my thing but classic easy…
Idem ponovno dati šansu. Već sam preslušao bio prije par godina *checks last.fm quickly* - > 2020. october to be exact.
It's nice, but not really my cup of tea. 7/10
Best Song: Way over Yonder. Really powerful vocal performance. Worst Song: Home Again. This just feels entirely plain, especially following the previous songs wherein King really showed off her vocal prowess. Also has some weak lyrics. "Snow is cold, rain is wet." Overall: Really soulful performance. Has a few slow moments, but overall the package is delivered with such a passion that you can't help but feel like a natural woman.
Delightful. Plus, I had no idea Carole King wrote some of these.
Just so many hits here! What a great album.
Nice.
This album is a true classic, but also has some songs I’ve never heard before. Good stuff.
Okay. So, firstly, as a child of the sixties, I ought to admit that I should have listened to this album long before now. I'm not sure why I haven't - but there you are. This said I knew that Tapestry was generally accepted to be one of the greatest albums of its time and it didn't disappoint. Crammed full of instantly recognisable hits and a beautiful showcase for Carol King's awesome talent, the album is a wonderfully relaxing easy listen that comforts you like a favourite blanket. I would have given it a full five stars were it not for one or two songs that didn't really make me think Wow!
Really good
Enjoyed this one.
Carol King is pretty fucking special.
ils vont me faire aimer la musique de cowboy
Très bel album mais le style musical ne me touche pas personnellement Prefs: I Feel The Erath Move, Beautiful, Where You Lead, Smackwater Jack, Tapestry, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman Moins pref: Way Over Yonder
Great singer. She represents all of a time.
Pretty excellent album that was a first time listen. It’s a bit rare to have a new album that I felt was so well made. This album had several songs that are lyrically excellent. The songs are more instrumentally complex than other singer songwriter albums too. This was a good listen. 7.9/10
1971. It's Too Late, You've Got A Friend, I Feel The Earth Move
מעולה,אחד האלבומים האהובים על אמא
feel good album, balance of serious and joyous songs
An impressive songwriting album. No wonder its reception was so strong.
Eorofkd
Great album. I thought she was doing covers of "You've Got a Friend" and "A Natural Woman" but it turns out she wrote both of those. A cool album that really embodies the sound of the time. 4.5 stars
3.5/5. This is some pretty enjoyable soft rock. It’s not particularly freak, but it’s also very easy to listen to.

This is one of these albums that sometimes work and sometimes not at all. When I listened to it today, I did not get into it so much as before. It should definitely be on the list but I give it a 4.
Relentless soulful positivity. I'm shoked that so many songs that I've heard numerous times all come from one album, which I've never heard of. I mean seriously... "I Feel the Earth Move", "Its Too Late", "You've Got a Friend", "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman)"! It took me a couple run throughs to get a clear sense of what made the album great, but chalk that up to my crappy headphones. If you only have the energy for one track, I found "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman)" to be the most emotionally dynamic track.
I Feel The Earth Move and You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman! Home Again has some pretty forward, dumb lyrics however. Where You Lead! Will You Love Me Tomorrow! wow this album is studded with hits.
Beautiful songwriting, beautiful voice, and beautiful execution by the band.
Relaxing, down-to-earth album. Smooth voice and arrangements. It is also one of the best selling albums of all time. (7/10) FT: It's Too Late, You've Got A Friend
A collection of well crafted classic songs. Just not for me.
4.5
Una mamma per amica sempre nel cuore, disco bellissimo.
This was my first suggested album. Solid stuff! I've heard of a couple of her songs before but not super familiar with her stuff. Was a great listen.
Great album. Awesome to hear so many songs done by the original composer
This is actually a great album. Lots of known songs all throughout with It's Too Late the most known song. 7/10.
8/10
Hit after hit. Easy listening and wonderful collection of tracks that I'd happily listen to again. Plus the album cover has a cat on it.
Very good
Really liked this. Really smart songwriting and solid playing throughout
This is a nice album, I like her voice and she is a great songwriter. Fun to hear her version of You've Got a Friend, I am mostly just familiar with James Taylor's version.
Fantastic album by a master singer-songwriter
Very nice chill album, she's great!
Pretty classic. Heard 90% of this one before. 4/5.
Приятный тёплый альбом)))
Well known soulful piano and melody driven album - sometimes difficult to recall originals from all the first class covers! Not greatest voice but such good musicianship and writing. Great, but not quite a 5 star lp, sorry!
A warm, lazy summer's day, a nice glass of something - just the right album.
laid-back album dat met wat sad songs begint, maar een iets positievere noot heeft naar het einde toe
I enjoyed this album quite a bit, mostly because I love sad music and I found most of this album to be very sad. There’s a desperation in even songs like Where You Lead, which seems to be a sweet song. Many of these songs I had only heard covers of, but many of them don’t even scratch the surface of the emotion Carole King serves. Overall, loved it.
Love track 3!
Beautiful very soft Folk Rock.
A forgotten (for me) masterpiece- virtually every track is good. Brought me back to my childhood as this album was on repeat for much of my youth
Wow, I've heard so many of her songs in shows and movies and never knew they were all by Carole King - a name I don't think I have heard of...embarrassingly showing how young and ignorant I am
Did not expect to like a 70s pop/soul album but it sounds like something that was never done before for some reason. good stuff 8.5/10
9/10
nice vocals, good instrumentals, personal lyrics
Melodic Passionate Nice
Bluesy
wish I could listen to it with fresh ears but sounds so much like mom music from my mom playing it over the years constantly
The pinnacle of female singer songwriters. This album was really a tale of two sides though. Everything in the first half is spot on - lyrics, composition, energy - while the second half is a combination of songs that are a bit lighter and even somber, along with a few classics that Carole had written for other artists. It's a classic, timeless album but based on the second half I'm going with a 4.5 down to a 4.
Pretty cool, vocal recording feels raw and a lot of keyboards!
Only had previously listened to a few song by her. I really enjoyed listening to the album.
Vry nice,chill.
Very solid singer-songwriter album with some true classics!
Its a classic for a reason. You probably know most of the songs already, even if its another artists version.
Веселенько и про любофь. Добавил: It's too Late, Beautiful, I Feel the Earth Move
Pretty good, some classic songs on here
I recognise first track 'I Feel The Earth Move' , always thought this would have been by a black soul singer. 'It's Too Late', 'You've Got A Friend' massive tunes too. Decent, definitely a 4
Aretha Franklin vibes. Didn't realise I knew so many of the songs on this album, without ever knowing the artist, shame on me. Joyful, soulful & most triumphant album.
Like the oldies
Nice. Couldn't run to it, but listened to it a couple of loops though in the evening.
It's not the Best thing ever but I thought that it was cool listening in that moment.
Saved Prior: None Off Rip: I Feel the Earth Move, It's Too Late, Home Again, Beautiful, Tapestry Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: A very homey album from one of the most important people in pop music history, I can see how this sold a bajillion copies.
Never listened to this album before but recognised pretty much every song. Very pleasant
I really liked it. Already knew a few songs so that was good.
soft rock, very nice to chill along to
Chill & calming.
What a voice.
Full of familiar tunes that I hadn't realized were written by the same person
The definition of MOR. The songs are well crafted, though.
IMHO Tapestry is the definition of "Middle of the Road". It's a very well crafted album, though.
Excelente voz. Temas evocadores. Buenos acompañamientos
I didn't know winter sprng summer fall was in this album idk that was cool
Quite cheesy but good old classics
Quite good and definitely grew on me as I listened to more but there weren’t too many special moments on the album. 8
Easy listening. Classic FM. I want to hate it but it's too smoooooth.
good stuff
Excellent!
Have always liked this one
I feel guilty that so many of these songs I know, yet I don't give ol' Carole much thought. Clearly an incredible songwriter with a really pure, rich tone to her voice which is so soothing. A triumph
Wow, Carole King was a pop cultural tyrannosaurus rex! I was largely ignorant of her, but bet I've heard countless dozens of songs she wrote over the years. Fave track - "It's Too Late"
Couldn’t believe how many hits were on this album that had been covered by other artists. What an iconic album.
Recognizable songs I didn't realize were by Carole King - I Feel the Earth Move | It's Too Late Relaxing but pained/Emotional/Weirdly uplifting/Bittersweet
Have a soft spot for folky female singers. She is no Aretha Franklin but definitely has a lot of well known songs on this album. I'd say the production isn't amazing on this but it was early 70s and not on a big label, so fair play to them for pushing out a bunch of bangers. I'll leave the technical analysis to bwoi. Also check out that McFly cover
Great album, I was very impressed! Turns out I was familiar with King’s work without knowing specifically who she was. “It’s too Late” and “Natural Woman” are obviously part of the zeitgeist. She’s obviously a very talented songwriter.
So many familiar songs so good
So many well known tunes
Actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I can see why people love this album.
Noen bra bangers, hvertfall " I feel the earth move"
7
what a treat.
What a treat. Didn't really know Carole King except from the Gilmore Girls theme but this was great and I knew a lot more songs than I thought I would.
This is cool! Didn't know who this was but I knew a couple of these songs. Really liked this album actually
She has some great songs. Never realized how much she is covered. Great song writer and vocals.
You alright carole!
Good stuff. Lots of good songs on here. No surprise I guess, Carole King is an excellent songwriter. Bonus points for having a cat on the cover
Väldigt bra
Y
Amazing, simply Amazing Album that's all I can say.
Songs were very memorable
The most impressive thing about this album is the consistency. Every track is carefully and creatively crafted, and there's not a single one that stands out in a bad way. Having said that, nothing really sets it apart as an all-time great, either. It's a really, really solid album. Best track: You've Got A Friend
Great songwriter, great voice. What’s not to like?
god tier Singer-songwriter album
A bit like Cloud Nine, some awesome tracks and I love her voice but there are some fillers that keep me from giving it 5 stars
Сара засрала челик па није слушала Марко 3-
I am very glad to get opportunity to listen to all these legendary female performers. I have never heard of Carole King before which is a bit surprising and it's clear enough that this is another one of those albums for which it's not enough to just spend a day with. I might have to come back to this, but so far it's very enjoyable experience, 3 strong stars easily, not yet sure about 4, because at the moment I am still not getting any super memorable tracks to revisit, but this one will have to be revisited anyway!
cozy warm autumn gilmore girls pretty cool overall I’m glad I listened to it!!
Perus taustamusaa, pari sample potential
Some great songs here but I wasn't that impressed as a whole, 3 for tracks like It's Too Late though
The grandmother of every artist you have ever loved, sitting in her rocking chair, being completely right about everything, and you still only visit three times a year out of obligation. This is the album that told Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Sarah McLachlan, Alanis Morissette, Adele, and roughly every other woman who ever sat down at a piano with feelings that it was allowed. That it could sell. That a woman writing her own songs, playing her own piano, and refusing to wear sequins or smile on command could sit on the Billboard charts for six straight years. Six. Years. Your favorite artists owe this woman rent money they will never pay back. Carole King wrote "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" for the Shirelles in 1960. She wrote "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" for Aretha Franklin in 1967. Then she sat down and recorded them herself, better, in her living room, in her socks, with James Taylor on guitar and absolutely zero interest in your opinion about it. Producer Lou Adler wanted it to sound like a demo. Mission accomplished, in the best possible way. Is it on my regular rotation? No. Does it need to be? Also no. It did its job. It built the house that an entire record collection could live in. 3 out of 5. All three stars awarded with genuine respect and zero desire to listen to it on a Tuesday.
I enjoyed this album, but I think that it's more so something that I would have on in the background rather than really pay attention to. I like her voice and the instrumentals all work very well together. I would most likely listen to it again.
Pretty good, though possibly slightly overrated due to the hits early on in the album? Fine all around. 3/5
Habe es schon mal mit dem Album versucht. Fand es dieses Mal schon ganz gut. Noch keine 4 Sterne, aber höre ich mir sicherlich nochmal an.
ok so i listened, a 3 stars, maybe 2, bc it isn’t bad but def not my style
nice and chill
Okay just didn't love it
Feels like a winter record where you'd play one evening while drinking black coffee and smoking Marlboro Reds
I really enjoyed the album. Took me back to the 70s, I almost saw my self in the grass with long hair
‘Twas fine
- This is a nice album with a lot of hits. - I like, but don't love Carole's voice because it's a little more nasal than I like. That said, I appreciate the tight songwriting, and I knew a lot of the songs and didn't expect to. - The songs blend in together a bit after a while - the second half was kind of disappointing after a packed first half. - Putting a cat on the cover is a good choice, lol.
Bem cativante..
definitely a little corny but its too late is actually so fucking good
She is a fabulous songwriter and awesome to hear her do all these great songs she wrote for others. I am not a fan of her voice though, it's not bad but wouldn't put it up there with the greats. Handful of really great songs and a few I would skip.
It was good but one of the songs was a tv show intro and that bugs me a bit
This takes me back to a different life. I really enjoyed this album at the time. Still have iit. Wonderful talent
gorgeous
breezy oldtimer album. simple but effective.
She got some pipes
Good, nothing very special
