Well, I can't say I was expecting something like this to happen so soon. We return to the world of LCD Soundsystem. I already listened to American Dream just two days ago, so how does Sound of Silver compare? I do think I liked it a bit more. For one, it's shorter. One of my big complaints with American Dream was just how long it was. Sound of Silver is still decently long, but I wouldn't consider it too long. What I would consider it, however, is repetitive. Each song typically contains a few lines that are repeated throughout, with the title track having just 5 lines total. The sound itself is also quite repetitive throughout the album. It didn't really drag or anything, but some songs definitely suffered a bit from the repetitive nature of this album. I think that's why my favorite song on the album was definitely the album's closer "New York, I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down." I didn't think this album would have a better closer than Black Screen, but they proved me wrong. I guess it's kind of the other way around though, seeing as this album came out 10 years before American Dream. Overall, pretty decent and maybe a bit better than American Dream, but I still don't think I'm a huge LCD Soundsystem fan. 3/5. EDIT: Okay, I get it now. This is pretty good. I still think it's a little bit overrated, but I get why people love this as much as they do. LCD Soundsystem appeals to me more now that I'm more accustomed to this kind of music. Also, this album is really not as repetitive as I made it out to be. I like Sound of Silver a lot, but I wouldn't say it's a 9 or 10 like others would. It's more like a 7 or 8 for me. But, that is enough for me to bump this album up to a 4/5. Good stuff.
Really groovy and fun album, if I was a 14 year looking for personality traits this would probably be my favorite album ever.
Didnt expect that
I've never understood the appeal of LCD Soundsystem. This album reminds me of a drunken night out: loud, vapid, chaotic, and ending with a literal hangover of a song. Maybe I wouldn't mind this playing in the background of a lobby or cocktail bar while I do more interesting things with my life.

Honestly never really got the hype for LCD Soundsystem, even though by rights they should be something I really like (I love a lot of other indie/dance hybrid shit, I'm the right age, etc). But yeah, this to me is a couple great songs and some pretty good ones. In other words, solid 3.5 material. Pretty good, but I can name like 5 other indie dance bands I prefer.

Interesting composition on most songs. Electronica Rock is a genre I've never really listened to before and I certainly enjoyed it. More rock songs need Glockenspiels and Cowbells! Think my favourite track was All My Friends

I can definitely see the influence this could’ve had on early indie and electronic music, but ultimately with the overly repetitive beats and melodies, plus the uninspired spoken lyrics, it’s just not for me. Only song I slightly enjoyed listening to was North American Scum.
You can hear the electronic/indie sound that comes from like, Depeche Mode turning into Owl City. As the album plays you can hear the gradient between genres and be able to pinpoint exactly where bits and pieces branch into modern indie electronic. Almost ahead of it’s time. However it was annoying to listen to. I get artsy but I am not a fan of this kind of stuff. There was an 8 minute long song of just noise..

I was excited to listen to this album, but as I did, I wasn't the biggest fan. There were flashes of things I liked but a lot of the choices that were made just didn't work for me. Strange sounds at certain moments. It didn't make it a bad album, I just wanted it to be better.
I believe this is number two from LCD Soundsystem, a band I went and saw with Andrew and Alden without knowing their music at all. They've got some serious jams on here, no denying that. I always assumed they were a band from decades ago, but this one's pretty recent. Still not quite a "fan" of LCD like that, but both albums we've had have been good, I think they're worth a nod on here. Favorite tracks: North American Scum, Someone Great, Us v. Them. Album art: I've seen this one a lot, but I'm not a big fan. Some kind of light or something set up on the ground, and the whole image is rotated. I don't know, it just doesn't do anything for me. 3.5/5
Not my style, a bit too repetitive; that being said, “where the buildings are old and you might have lots of mimes” is an all-time great lyric. Favorite song: North American Scum. 6/10

My favorite part of this album was the sound design. There are a lot of really juicy and rich synth parts which are a joy to hear, on a par with those of Daft Punk. The first track is kind of the odd one out and is very reminiscent of Kraftwerk. The rest seems to have more influence from the David Bowie/Brian Eno Berlin era. I can't comment much on the songwriting as it is rather minimal and dancy. I have never been the biggest fan of LCD Soundsystems vocals but revisiting them this time I found them more tolerable, especially noticing the clear Bowie influence.

Fav: All My Friends
Not my thing at all. Think slowed down rave, with carefully layered electronic soundscapes. All very well done, but it left me absolutely cold. This is what I would expect a good set of music generating algorithms to produce. The drum rhythms are absolutely mechanical, the bass lines follow predictable structures and then a 'correct' melody is layered on top. The lyrics seem to be more concerned with the sound than the meaning. Then on the final track they transform into a mediocre lounge band!! I guess they had a message they wanted to deliver, but what it was is not at all clear.
I had never heard of LCD Soundsystem until the lineup for Austin City Limits in 2010 was announced. People seemed to be really excited for them to be on the lineup, so I decided to check them out. I looked them up on YouTube and found the video for "All My Friends," and I was immediately hooked. I bought this album and This is Happening, and I wound up enjoying This is Happening more. However, over the years, I've grown to consider Sound of Silver the band's best work. Every track is deep and rich in sound, and I feel like I hear some new detail every time I listen to this album. James Murphy's low-key vocals provide a perfect contrast to the fast-paced dance rhythms, and his lyrics are the perfect combination of punk rebellion mixed with Gen X apathy and nihilism. "All My Friends" is one of my all-time favorite songs, and its catchy piano loop still entrances me every time I hear it. To me, this album is absolutely perfect, and remains one of my all-time favorites. Long live Indie Sleaze.

There are a lot of sonically annoying things going on in this album. I would call them poor dissonant choices. There are ways to do dissonance well and this isn't it. You can really tell they're trying to be an updated DEVO and they just suck instead.
BL: Sound of Silver is one of my favourite albums of all time already so I doubt listening to an album I’ve listen to maybe 50+ times is really going to shift on the 51st listen AL: my hypothesis was correct FT: “get innocuous”, “someone great”, “all my friends”, “New York, I love you but you’re bringing me down” 5/5

So because it’s mine and somebody else’s birthday (hi Jen!) I was considering what would I really want to come up today? And what would Jen want to come up today? But in the true tradition of ‘you don’t always get what you want, but sometimes you might just find, you get what you need’ LCD is what turned up. As I was dancing around my kitchen, cleaning cloth in one hand and bottle of Prosecco in the other, I realised that this was exactly what I needed. The singles from this album were well-chosen. Upbeat, fun and very infective - I’m happy!!
I love the song North American Scum. I wanted to gouge out my ear drums on All My Friends.
So, when this hits, it hits hard, and there are a few tracks that land. But when it doesn't it just seems lifeless, or at least not super engaging, and that's when the repetitive groove gets tired for me. Heard a bunch of Bowie-inspired sounds and melodies, which in my book ain't a bad thing. But, taken as a whole, this is an album that doesn't merit the bump to a 4. We have this record in our CD collection (Marianne's contribution), so I was familiar with it, and my sentiments here reflect what I thought when I first listened to it. Good tunes for a party mix if you get to select the winners.
I always think LCD Soundsystem is an EDM band, so I rolled my eyes when this showed up this morning. Anyway, I dug this. Guy's got a sense of humor. The songs have a little Talking Heads, Brian Eno, and Gang of Four, but I also picked up notes of Spoon and just a hint of blackberry. Anyway, it's fun, the songs are quirky and cool, and I hope to hear more from them. (I just looked back at my review of American Dream, totally forgetting everything about that listen. I gave that album a 1. LOL. I might have to revisit that one. Maybe I was just in a bad mood that day.)
This was actually pretty good. Probably my favorite EDM album I've listened to.
Best song is New york, I love you. Other than that the songs were decent but nothing worthy of noting. Would need to listen to it again to fully appreciate it

A very different sounding album. LCD Soundsystem has a very unique sound to his work and although the songs are long, they don’t overstay their welcome.
A bit dull
I was a decade late to the LCD party but I’m a fully paid-up member these days. First and foremost, this is just irresistibly danceable, in a way that a lot of ‘dance’ music isn’t, for me. Even the weaker tracks are infectious. The lyrics are witty, the vocals are goofy, yet somehow it avoids falling into novelty territory. The secret ingredient must be pathos - Someone Great, All My Friends and New York I Love You are colossal anthems with real emotional heft. Fun AND deep. It moves your body, it moves your soul. To paraphrase a famous internet meme, ’get you a band who can do both.’

Pretty cool record. No stand-out tracks or hooks but I think I would listen to this again as an ambient album. It has a weird 80s vibe for something from the early-2000s.
This has a lot in common with Krautrock - repetitive beats and synths, with minimal variation. I want to dislike it, but actually quite like it.

I came across this album in my college years and have loved it ever since. I feel like I tend to dislike a number of electronic albums I get on this list because they lack much of a personal connection and feel hollow. This album proves you can make great electronic music that still feels human. Better than I thought. Huge british savoir fair and Incredibly well mixed and nice mix of new and old sounds. Lcd Soundsystem definitely knows what he is doing.
To be honest I did no expect to like it - but it was pretty good. I will definitely listen to it again and I might even dance or jog on it. For now I don't have a song that made it on my on-repeat-library, but I will definitely add the album to my playlist. Usually electronic stuff are not my jam, but this one has more than just that and it definitely has a specific sound to it that makes it addictive and fun. Great to listen to while working too.

This is alright alternative music. It reminds me a lot of The Killers in the way the lead sings/sounds. This was alright. Some songs were better than others; was thinking a light 4, but there were more "ok" songs than anything else. A strong 3/5

This album is imperfect, but it's incredibly fun and the high highs more than make up for its imperfections. All My Friends is one of the best songs ever written - it packs about as much emotional drive and catharsis as you can fit in one song. The rest of the album is mostly great, with infectious grooves making up for the fact that some songs can get a bit repetitive. I just want to turn up the volume and keep listening anyway.

Instrumentals are killer, vocals are okay, lyrics are a mix between nonsense and absurd. The songs are all much longer than I'd prefer. Many of the songs sound sort of samey to the ones that come before or after it. Overall, I can appreciate it but there's only, at most, a single song I'd come back and listen to; that being "Time to get away" specifically.

Before today I'd never heard of LCD Soundsystem. They are a 00's electronica/indie rock band. Not sure how I feel about that mash up of genres, but we will see. The first few songs on this album didn't impress me much, but once North American Scum rolled around, I really started warming up to their style of music. It is indeed generic indie rock with a good beat. Overall, impressed with how much I enjoyed today's album. Thought I would hate it, but it was fine. Nothing astounding, but a decent album all the same. Favourite songs: North American Scum, All My Friends, Us V Them (MORE COWBELL!!), Watch The Tapes, Someone Great Least favourite songs: "New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down" 3/5
Really loved like 3 of the songs, didn’t care much for the others.
I was pretty hopeful for this album, but I have been disappointed. I couldn't really get into any of the songs and I don't really like the vocals in this album. Maybe I could get used to that voice, but it bothered me. I'm still cautiously optimistic for their other album on here. I guess my favourite song was Watch the Tapes, but I didn't especially like any of these songs.

This album is a four-star continuation of the first LCD album, witty, distanced, ironic NY cool right up to track 4 - then it lifts into something completely different. Its still got the NY scene beats but the melodies, the rhythms, the vocals are something else. Ageing, worrying about still being cool, worried about clubbing being shallow....the next six tracks are as touching as dance music gets. Then there's a full-blown sad ballad to finish...worried that living in New York is not the answer any more.
At first I felt there were too many beeps and boops, and then it turned into really vanilla alternative, and then was happy to beeps and boops came back. 2.5/5
One of those albums that didn’t sound like anything to me the first time I listened, but now that I’ve heard it a bunch of times over the years it’s hard to believe I didn’t realize how great it was that first time. Very nostalgic and sentimental feelings from these sounds 3.75/5
One of my all time personal favorites. LCD Soundsystem is like electric Talking Heads, and that is the best compliment. Got to finally see them perform live last year, and the show exceeded my expectations. It’s great when a band you liked in high school actually holds up into your adulthood
Highlights: "Get Innocuous," "Someone Great," "Watch the Tapes," "New York I Love You" Murphy is very transparent about this being a midlife crisis revival of his favorite sounds, but it's ridiculous that people give him so much credit just for having good taste in what he regurgitates. Yes, we all wish there was another '80s record of Talking Heads, Bowie, Eno, or U2. The thing is, nobody ever wished for an album of Bono trying to sing like Byrne, or Byrne trying to write completely direct and literal lyrics about his opinions and feelings. The lyrics don't have a real sense of rhythm to make them anthemic or even catchy, which is critical if you're going to repeat them one hundred times. The most surprising, interesting moment in here is the end of the opener, which might just be a sample of Ben Johnston's "With Solemnity" or something by Ades or Britten. For a moment I thought there was some inspiration, but it might be just one more echo in his chamber.
You can really hear the influences on this album, and they almost dip into imitation. The vocals and lyrics on certain tracks were distracting at times and the loops got exhaustingly repetitive. I feel the same way about Daft Punk though, but I do still quite enjoy them and I know the music is mostly designed to be danced to while entranced. Catchy enough to bop my head, mediocre enough not to listen to again on purpose.
3.5 stars. A bit weird, this electronic indie rock has some great moments while being a bit too out there at times. The vocals can be a detractor at times, but overall this is a good album. Standout is the superlative "All My Friends" whose steady build and catchy beat is a masterpiece that carries the record.

It was the very first time I have listened to LCD sound system and I must admit it was pure fun. The album is somehow hilarious in its sound (I can't really explain why) and has a pretty nostalgic mood. And last but not least, the first song is perfect to do the robot dance. Better than I expected but I didn't expect much. Something always seemed unappealing about LCD Soundsystem to me. It always seemed to be for someone else, someone kinda boring. It's a perfectly satisfying album but if you like the cadence, beat or whatever then just listen to talking heads who did the same thing better decades before.
Like the Eletronica sound this album has so far, some of the songs do go for awhile and can feel like they repeat themselves a lot. The second half of the album has been more enjoyable.

Brilliant front to back.
Of all the electronic, arty farty 2000’s indie rock I’ve listened to so far, this is the least offensive. It actually borders on enjoyable some of the time. The track Someone Great reminds me of a friend who played it constantly for a while in 2012. I didn’t hate this but I didn’t swoon over it either like I remember so many people did. It’s fine, it has its place. But I’m not going to seek it out.

4.0 - This is dance music for attractive nerds. Not the real nerds. The hot ones who call themselves nerds only because they own one pair of big framed glasses. Or they might say: “I’m a total wine-nerd.” No, Danielle, you just buy whatever Cab-Sauv happens to be on sale that week that also has a “90” sticker stuck on it somewhere. Same as the rest of us. Standouts: the New York song, the static sound at the end of “Someone Great”

Basing my feelings solely off the music, I found that many of the songs were much too long and would have been much more enjoyable if delivered in half the time, while maintaining the layering of the song. I am not a huge fan of the album as a whole and am likely not going out of my way to play specific songs but it is easily comprehensible that this album could be cherished. Every song sounded so similar, was bored the whole time.
LCD Soundsystem should have been my perfect band: edgy, self-deprecating dance/rock. But somehow we never clicked, and I understand why. Every song is the same, build-up of elements, which is initially impressive, but soon becomes tiring. They also sound like they were made on someone's bedroom PC. And I feel like the singer is trying too hard to be hip and missing a genuine emotional connection as a result. That said, I liked it when he sang about people thinking he was English.

Repetitive lyrics killed this album for me. Made it feel “mailed in”. Could have some potential. It had decent production quality. Just subpar song lyrics.
LCD sound system always represented a bit of a gap in my listening experience. This was the first time I’ve actually listened to this album in its entirety and I’m struggling to think of why I didn’t do so much sooner. I had so much fun with this, it’s simply infectious. The writing, performances and production were all top notch. Slightly astounded at how effectively layered these songs are, so many grooves and rhythms interplaying in a way that feels organic and alive without ever getting too crowded or muddled. A lovely mix of more emotional hitters and fun bops. 4.5 stars Fave track: all my friends

Had never dunked my head into the waters of LCD Soundsystem completely. Are they the pacific, or a kiddie pool? This album would suggest somewhere in between, hot footing between Big W Talking Heads rips and anthemic indie rock that have resounded throughout the years. I think there's a lot of great songs and the album moves well, but there's a je ne sais quoi that's missing from the whole experience for me - a certain forced charisma on some tracks that holds me back. When it goes for sincerity, I'm much more of a fan. Three and a half. Fave track: All My Friends
Terrific album; have been a fan of this band for years. A cool blend of classic structures and production borrowing from their 70s and 80s influences and fresher, futuristic sounds. There are some all time classics on here - it’s really hard to come past a better back to back than Someone Great and All My Friends. Four and a half. Fave track: Someone Great

Probably my favourite LCD Soundsystem album, mostly due to the notoriety of North American Scum (and, other than being easy to identify with, it being a very catchy track). However, as an album, I always find I lose interest somewhere along the way due to the repetitive nature of affairs.

I came to LCD Soundsystem a bit late. I think because it is, in many ways, totally not the sort of thing I'd listen to. As a result the first album of theirs I listened to (and still my favourite) was This is Happening. Of course, you couldn't not hear loads of tracks from this album while it was about. It was everywhere and it was brilliant, and it still is. If I could give a 4.5 I would.
Cool electronic indie Chill and enjoyable. Aphex twin with vocals. Kinda repetitive at times but the repetitive bits were still fairly interesting
Very Talking Heads-Like
One of the best records of the 21st century. Simple as that. Although dedicated to James Murphy's late therapist, Sound of Silver is just as much an homage (or a hate letter?) to New York City with Murphy and co. staggering from rock joints to electronic clubs in their sales force suits. With opening tracks like 'Get Innocuous!' and 'North American Scum', you might get the impression that the record will be filled with danceable jabs at the world, picking up where Talking Heads left off at their most playful. But then things get intimately personal. 'Someone Great' is one of the most accurate portrayals of loss and grief in modern music, and it's incredible that Murphy is able convey so many aspects of the grieving process with so few words. An immense highlight of the album which then immediately gets overshadowed by the monumental 'All My Friends'. Jesus, this track is peak music. An entire adult human life told in just about 8 minutes, with quotable line after quotable line. It's danceable, but simultaneously incredibly moving. 'Us V Them' would be a hell of a track even without vocals, and like most of the songs on the album it's just layer upon layer of electronic and analogue instrument recorded in a room covered in tinfoil. Probably something you would notice, but something magical sure happened during these recording sessions. Finally, the bittersweet 'New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down' sends us off with a reminder that life is multi-faceted and filled with conflicts - but everything is a little easier in the company of others. "You spent the first five years trying to get with the plan And the next five years trying to be with your friends again"
James Murphy makes me dance and weep at the same time. A feat to behold.

I'll be honest and say that I got this album nearly a week ago. I'm only writing my review now, because I just can't decide how to score this. I come into this review very much impartial, as I've listened to it many a time. I can't not mention how repetitive it is. I can't not mention that it derives a lot of its style to its predecessors like the Talking Heads, and doesn't do it quite as well as they did. But I also can't not mention that it's catchy as hell and puts me into a near trance. It makes me, very much not a dancer, want to shake my little tush. Certain tracks even make me tear up a bit. I can't not admit that for all its faults, this is a damn near perfect album to me.

I am often indecisive as to which LCD Soundsystem is my favorite. This Is Happening has a certain polish to it that it makes for such a high quality record with the best production possible and some of LCD Soundsystem's best-written songs. On the other hand, Sound of Silver has the punkish edge that gives the songs some extra grittiness, with the dirty synths and incredible energy. I love every song on Sound of Silver. Every minute, every beat and note is worth hearing. I love it dearly.

i'm typically not a fan of electronica on this list, but lcd soundsystem's sound of silver was enjoyable at times for me. the repetitive nature of electronica can weigh me down, but outside of that, i recognize that the dance aspect of electronica set this album apart. dare i say some disco elements were used? if i were in a club (and not judging this album solely as part of this project), i would dig these songs! i would be dancing.
Although I had heard of LCD Soundsystem, I had never listened to them. After hearing this album, I'm legitimately surprised that I hadn't listened to them before. They're a perfect mid-2000s indie rock/electronic dance sound that I really find myself typically getting into. This is a really cool sound mash-up that exists somewhere between rock acts The Strokes and the Killers and dance acts like Justice. They're not reinventing anything here, but it was just an enjoyable listen. 3.5.
Lyrics you can smirk to. Grooves you can dance to. Real feels for this ex-NYC resident while listening to "New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down." My 11 years there overlaps heavily with LCD Soundsystem which might be why it rings so true. Signed, another North American Scum.

Doe toch eens iets interessant, je kan zoveel met computers, waarom moet je dan elk nummer 80bpm hebben met langzaam opkomend steeds meer geplingel? Het is niet dat het onluisterbaar is, maar ik snap ook echt niet wat dit op deze lijst doet. Hiervoor in de plaats kun je zo nog 100 artiesten vinden die precies hetzelfde klinken.

Not bad for focus / work.
Incredible! Hooks you immediately and doesn’t let go. The album has so much fun rhythm and instrumentals that transport you into another world. The lyrics are thoughtful, the percussion is smacking, and the bangers are banging. All around a great album that I would like to own.
This album definitely didn’t blow me away. There were moments I thought this was up my alley, but not enough to find a good jive. I will add “North American Scum” to my playlist. I did enjoy that song. Overall I’ll give this album a 2.

I was very concerned after the first track that this would be another tedious, drawn out electronic album. Turns out I was pretty into the rest of the album? A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.

Best album of the 00s. That run of North American Scum, Someone Great and All My Friends would be the career highlight of any band. The fact you also get NY I Love You, Sound of Silver and Get Innocuous on the same album and the other tracks all slap too is just GREEDY. And this isn't always my favourite LCD album either. I think like the Fall, your two favourite LCD albums are the one you just listened to, and the one you haven't heard yet (album 5 plz James)

Two albums out of the last 3 would make it into my top 5 of all time (obviously this one included!). LCD are one of them bands that have been a strong favourite of mine since about 2007 and this is my favourite album of theirs. Feel like I say it a lot, but every song is just a grade A belter. They manage to put in so many layers and complexity while making it sound so effortless. Someone Great and All My Friends still feels like a punch in the gut all these years later, and it’s impossible for me not to get lost in Get Innocuous or nostalgic with New York I Love You. North American Scum is the soundtrack of the mid 00s. I can taste the Red Stripe just hearing the intro bars. I’m convinced James Murphy is the best musician of my generation.
What an album, obviously a classic from the first listen. Not quite sure how I didn't get into this at the time, it combines all the best bits of noughties indie and older electronica but does it better. I knew most of the singles but the whole thing is consistently quality.
I'm on the fence with this. I can hear the musicianship in places, but why is every song incredibly long? Or at least, the repetitive nature lends itself to making most songs feel like a drag. I'd give it maybe 1 more star if it was shorter. Although, maybe not, it really isn't my kind of thing. North American Scum is of course pretty great, I know it from Top Spin 4, the tennis game. No big "Love" from me for this one.
Thought it was an alright album, had an interesting rock/electronic mix to the tracks. However, having most of the album be 5+ min tracks felt fatiguing with the repetitive beats. Sound of Silver being the most egregious of them all. Highlights: North American Scum All My Friends
Heard this album quite a few times already and really like it. I would say the repetitive drum loops and electronic sound isn't usually my thing.... But it kinda reminds me of the postal service in parts too.. Was released and played a lot around uni times too. Highlights are North American scum, all my friends, and new York I love you. All my friends and new York are really great imo. All my friends gives me a really nostalgic feeling. I do think there is some filler in there but largely a great album

"Sound of Silver" is the second album by American rock band LCD Soundsystem. It's a combination of dance and rock. No better example of that then this album. It has also been categorized as dance-punk, dance-rock, electronica, electronic rock and indie rock. I love spelling out those genres daily since they might be the first and last time I hear or see some of them and have really no desire to dig deeper...again in some of them. LCD Soundsystem is basically James Murphy who plays everything and then others. This album received universal acclaim...rightfully so. An interesting fact: Murphy covered the entire recording studio in silver fabric and aluminum foil. And this album was recorded before " Better Call Saul." "Get Innocuous" gets the party started with percussion which builds becoming more complex. A repeating synth comes in... now we're dance. Hypnotic. It's a rat race, running people mindless. Of couse, when I hear this nowadays I immediately think of Grand Theft Auto 4. The album gets more funky and bass driven with "Time to Get Away." It's about getting away from an old manager. Cherry Glazerr did a killer cover version of this on their Sirius XMU Sessions. Droning sounds go into a Michael Jackson "Beat It" beat in the first single "North American Scum." I don't think Murphy can go more nasally than this. Annoying female backing vocals. He's going after everyone generalizing all Americans as scum. "Someone Great" was written about and actually the album dedicated to Bulgarian therapist Dr. George Kamen, a pioneer in group therapy, who had recently passed away and his methods were important to Mr. Murphy growing up. This song reminds me of The Talking Heads' movie "Stop Making Sense" in that instruments keep getting added with the momentum gaining. Reverbering, echoing keys to scratching to drums to outstated keys. Outstanding. "All My Friends" has a speedy train-like piano with rapid drums in the background maintaining the pace throughout the song. Murphy realizing he's at the end of his youthful party and where has all his friends gone. "US v Them" keeps the dance party going with more funk. Hey, a fun machine. Some think this is about a rival with a band, in particular, Hot Chip. Funny, I saw Hot Chip open for LCD on this tour. Everything seemed fine then. The last third of the album leans towards more straight-forward rock. "Watch the Tapes" is more new wave. I think about going through the work week in your twenties and waiting to party on the weekends. "Sound of Silver" starts with a cold bass line which transitions to synths and pianos. Is the Silver the silver of cassette tape? I would classify "New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down" as a both a ballad and a love/hate song for NYC. Maybe, a symbol for alcohol as well. "Sound of Silver" is one of my favorite albums of the 2000's. It's rare you listen to album where songs are actually busy and also allowed to breathe, take shape and develop. The songs on this album are those. Absolutely no filler. I hear every one of these songs today on the radio stations and other media that I listen and pay attention to. Obviously, a very high recommendation.
I’m not 100%, but I think I’ve heard something by LCD Soundsystem in a shop at some point, and remember being quite blown away and needing to find out what the song was. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the name so I can’t say I’d it’s on this album. Songs I already knew: None Favourites: North American Scum, All My Friends Ok so it turns out that I was mixing up LCD Soundsystem and Motion City Soundtrack in my preamble above. I was expecting rock music and received electronica! But that’s entirely down to my own confusion. I did enjoy this album today despite the mix up. For me, it was pleasant music to have on in the background while doing other things. It didn’t wow me enough to want to focus and actively listen to it, but it was still enjoyable in its own way. I’m not sure if I’ll be returning to listen to this again, but I’m still glad to be able to say that I’ve heard it.

I couldn’t roll my eyes hard enough when I saw yet another electronic album as a recommendation. Thankfully I did my due diligence and listened all the way through. Solid album that I’ll definitely come back to, and honestly changed my opinion of electronic just a little bit.

The album opens with the title track, "Sound of Silver," which sets the tone for the rest of the record in many ways. The song is a melancholic meditation on aging and the passage of time, with James Murphy's vocals and lyrics backed by a propulsive beat and shimmering synths. Throughout the album, Murphy's lyrics are both introspective and observational, tackling big themes like love, aging, and the meaning of life with wit and intelligence. The band's ability to blend danceable beats with thoughtful lyrics and complex arrangements is impressive, but the result is an album that, whilst instrumentally intruiging, falls short due to the mostly odd vocal delivery from Murphy. It takes away more than it gives and leaves me wanting to hear more of the instrumentals than the actual vocals and lyrics.
When the intro was playing I expected a serious techno-vibe album. You gotta love that Slow techno build, half-way between itchy and orgasmic. Then it went in 74 different directions and it was funny? Us V Them was my favorite musically. Sound of Silver was my favorite lyrically. Getting old is dumb, but being young was dumbest.

I think this album was interesting for what it was. I may not be in the best listening space right now for this kind of electronic sort of talking instead of singing sort of music. But I thought this was refreshing. I do think this is the kind of music that blends into the background and can be easily ignored. Good or bad, that's how I feel about it. 20/20 bananas. That is to say around 3/5 stars.
For no reason other than I can be a miserable grumpy old man, I didn’t used to like LCD Soundsystem. I thought they were pretentious. I didn’t like the people that listened to them. Water under the bridge I say! LCD Soundsystem is the illegitimate love child of The Talking Heads and Lou Reed. They have that weird NYC coolness and the electronic poppy likability. To be honest, this is the first time I actually listened to one of their albums in it’s entirety. This album is very listenable. I can imagine it playing in a coffee shop, tattoo parlor, or a trendy pop-up shop. There are no sharp edges. Each song feels very well placed within the album. My favorite track, surprisingly, is the last track on the album “New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down”. It isn’t danceable like the previous 9 tracks but it feels very honest. James Murphy actually shows a little vocal range. I dug this album and will check out more of their stuff. 4 out of 5 stars.
Couldn't listen to this
I've always listened to LCD Soundsystem as a band of singles, so I've not really ever listened to a record all the way through. However, this record has several of my favorite tracks on it, so I'm super interested. I love good dance music and LCD is built on dancehall beats with glitchy bass lines and then layering on melody and just a touch of harmony. It's like a band playing with a drum machine and then doing live bits in the same way many artists use samples. Not really verses and choruses, but also not really straight samples. It's somewhere in between, which I feel really gives LCD their unique sound and let's them be a band, but also produce great electronic music... best of both worlds. I love dance music best when they use great groove rather than hitting you over the head with hooks. Stand out tracks for me are: * Time to Get Away + Us V Them - which I feel could have been on the Talking Heads record like Remain in Light. Great looped groove feel. * Someone Great - Somehow able to be brooding and ominious and still be a banger in the dance club. This song just feels like Brooklyn to me so much. * All My Friends - one of my favorite dance tracks of all times... I've covered it in a couple different bands and it always kills. I never played in straight electronic or dance bands, so whenever it would start I could see like 10% of the crowd just absolutely go nuts. The LCD fans are out there and they are devoted! Hell, I'm on of them!

That drum sound is very LCD Soundsystem
50% of this album and LCD Soundsystem in general is really great music. However it amazes me how the other half is boring, uninspired and frankly just lazy, such as Someone Great and All My Friends, which are the singles. Oh well I gladly take the awesome 50% because that's a lot more than most bands especially in this era.
These 3 great songs on this record make up for the other repetitive and boring tunes: North American Scum Someone Great All My Friends Us v Them feels kiiiiind of like a Talking Heads song Sound of Silver is just repetitive and pretty boring. I can only get through New York I Love You but…

This album is squarely in my musical dead zone, from 2005-2015 I listened to almost no new music including this one. It's really good but a few of the songs were a little long and a little boring. Many of the songs could be on a soundtrack to any movie set in NY in the late 2000s

Its aight
Like a terrible compilation album of bands who think EDM is the new rock n roll. It's not, and never will be. A diverse array of styles, all of them rubbish. I was not surprised to find this was music made by an industry veteran - it sounds so calculated it could have been written by a focus group, like a lot of acts who have former managers, producers, or label bosses involved in writing the music.

James Murphy makes electronic music for garage band kids. It’s totally sufficient but not my cup of tea. There’s glimpses here like the excellently dancey “North American Scum”. There’s a few too many bleeps and bloops for my liking. There’s SOME decent songwriting and production here but it’s let down by the music itself.

So this sounded very meh - like talking heads with more repetition and less energy. But All My Friends stood out before NY I love You blew me away at the end. Interesting mix of electronic music with vocals. The song I recognized was "north American scum", that was definitely played a lot when this album came out. I think the hidden gem was "new York I love you, but you're bringing me down", it was a good ending to the album

I wanted to hate it but it was pretty good
I had hoped I would like this album more than I did. Musically, LCD Soundsystem is pretty tight. They have a lot of musical influences that align with my interests, and their stuff can be pretty fun. But something in the mix hits me as grating. Ultimately it's a dead-hearted copy of the music it tries to emulate, even if it's well done. Fave Songs: Get Innocuous! Another name I was familiar with but never listened to although I am familiar with New York I Love You ... from something else. Even though I liked it, the overly long songs just didn't always work for me. If it were 10 minutes shorter I'd like it a lot more.

This is by far the best lcd Soundsystem album I’ve gotten. All my friends and I love you New York are both bangers plus North American scum is a fun one. Still maintains the weirdness of the other albums but is way more fun to listen to

This album merges Kraftwerkian robo-repetition with elements of more traditional songwriting; and it's often like a less-wacky Talking Heads turning out longer songs. I like it.
Another group and album that I never dove into. Wow. An auditory fractal that pays homage to the best of synthesizer based dance music through out the ages. While getting your booty shaking, the lyrics pack an emotional whollop.
Listening to this album feels like being poked gently with a dull object for 55 minutes and 55 seconds. At first it's just kinda irritating. Then as you get used to it, it's not so bad, you start to tune it out. Then there are actually moments where the poking feels invigorating, almost like a massage, but not quite as pleasant. And you almost feel sad and empty when the poking finally stops, like an integral part of you just disappeared. And then it hits you - you were sitting there letting someone poke you for almost an hour, when doing just about anything else would have been more enjoyable. 2 gentle pokes out of 5 👉👉
