Reviews (page 13 of 13)
Ah, LCD Soundsystem. I discovered my first hatred for this exercise with your "American Dream". That album induced a rage blackout, so when I listened to this one, I couldn't recall if I hate it for the same reasons. There are three categories of tracks on this album: 1. Amorphous instrumental-forward pieces that are four times longer than they need to be, usually with an incredibly irritating riff at the core. 2. Lazy, spartan backing arrangements with random, chaotic "artistique" vocals overtop. It's basically bizarro, honky hiphop - that's to say, a minimized musical platform on which a vocal performance stands, with none of the swagger and all of the ego. 3. A slightly more uptempo conglomeration of type 1 and type 2. None of this material comes across as genuine, infectious, cool, inspiring or inspired, moving, dynamic, or meaningful. As a result, this is probably the worst way you could waste an hour, because you could fall for the illusion that material like this has worth because it got commercially released. Ultimately, this reeks of the pretense and zeitgeist found on a lot of popular records circa 2005-2015, and stinks even worse because there's so little instrumentation and direction to hide the artist's delusion that their vision has value. Please, I beg you, avoid LCD Soundsystem at any cost.
dont like
didn't finish
meh
Not for me
I've never listened to an LCD Soundsystem album start to finish, but I think I recognize some of these tracks by name. This just isn't my jam. I find it boring and repetitive.
Nothing particularly good about this at all. Vacuous, obvious and unoriginal for the most part. The third track “Someone Great” was a new a level of dreadful. Vocally, lyrically and the phrasing of it all I found cringeworthy. I knew it was going to be tough at that point. I had a high scoring week last week, but this was woeful.
Very derivative - Human League, Low-era Bowie, The Fall, The Hold Steady - this is a pedestrian re-hash of better ideas that other people had, and it does nothing of any note with them
zu abgehoben und individuell.....schwer zu beschreiben, hat null meinen Geschmack getroffen
I should be the dead-centre target audience for this. I wondered why I’ve heard the bam but don’t know the music. Because it’s god awful, and has aged like milk. My first 1 star review.
I just didn't like this.
Electronic genre is way over represented.
Might actually be the worst album I've ever heard
Terrible. Ahhhhh Flight of the concords 2.0 (did I do that right?). Would have picked this after the quadriplegic for dodgeball. They really thought they cooked with the line, “bells.” Should be used as an example of what not to do. All skips no hits. I’m not religious but I thanked god when this album ended.
Terrible
It’s cool that James Murphy became a famous musician at such an advanced age, but this just isn’t good. I even had high expectation from "New York, I Love You but You’re Bringing Me Down." I hate all of this weird electronica stuff, song’s still amazing though.
Garbage
Possibly even worse, can this guy even sing?
#49 Takes itself too seriously. Used all the sound samples that were available, huh?
Nein.
Did not like at all
Interesting, but not up my alley. 2/10
NEJ FAR OCH FLYG! BLÄ!
Not for me. Would AI do this . Yes. Do you need to.listen to it? No. Another album convincing ne to give low scores
White Americans shouldn't be allowed to make dance music. This is a travesty
p914. 2007. 1 star. Hideous hybrid of Heaven 17 and The Human League, but without the talent or the songs. And nobody needs multiple tedious 7+ minute tracks this millennium.
I am trying my best to appreciate this. I do have a couple of standouts that could be redeeming qualities but I have far too many gripes for them to be significant. Here's how it goes: Looped tracks like DJ music minus the bombastic raving, sometimes dull irritating sounds and sometimes squeaky glitch sounds. Sometimes becomes a nursery rhyme and sometimes trying to emulate the 80s vibe. Even pop music feels just bland, this feels annoying to listen to.
OH BROTHER, HOW MANY LCD ALBUMS MUST I SUFFER THROUGH??? I don’t like this kind of music. I made it through though. Please no more LCD. Thanks. 🙂↕️
Not for me
Nope
Doesn't sound very good at all.
Rubbish
This is the 7th straight day an album will get a 1 or a 2. Please generate something worthwhile tomorrow. 1.0
Was really enjoying this album from a nostalgia standpoint until 'all my freinds' came on. Has to be one of the absolute most annoying songs on the planet. Shot this album right down to a 1 star. And then they follow it with 'Us v Them' which is also incredibly annoying. I think I may be done with this album.
no good
Nah
I’m dying to get away. 🤪 This one’s not for me.
Bin offenbar zu alt für diese Welt. Wieder ein 0815-Lassmichinruh-Album.
didnt really like any of the songs
Strange, appropriate for random background sound to drown out other noise.
I enjoyed this as much as I enjoy hearing a kid banging on pots and pans in the kitchen
Get Innocuous: 2/10 Time to get away: 6/10 North american scum: 3 [Lyrics 2/10 + Sound 7/10] Someone great: 6 [Lyrics 6/10 + Sound 7/10] All my friends: 6 [Lyrics 8/10 + Sound 5/10] Us V them: 2 [Lyrics 5/10 + Sound 3/10] Watch the tapes: 8 [Lyrics 6/10 + Sound 8/10] Sound of silver: 5 [Lyrics 4/10 + Sound 7/10] NY, ILY but you're bringing me down: 7 [Lyrics 8/10 + Sound 10/10] Teniendo en cuenta que no estoy acostumbrada a escuchar este estilo de música, 7m de intro para Get Innocuous se me hizo eterna, algunos sonidos eran muy molestos y repetitivos, cuando llegó la parte cantada fue un alivio (que duró muy poco), es esto lo que siente la gente que toma setas? No, gracias. Top 3: NY ILY, Time to get away, Watch the tapes Least favorite: Get innocuous!
The first album that I encountered here that is actually bad. Even the songs that are actually good on the album are boring and not interesting at all.
not my cup of tea
Repetitive to a fault. Mindless garbage with no soul or emotion.
Still on my walking holiday in the Lakes. Only chance I had was to stream it when I happened to have a mobile signal. Boiling hot day so I was suffering in the heat. This album did nothing at all to relieve the suffering. In fact it made matters worse as this stuff never sounds great to me. 1/5 11/7/25
Meh La voz del tío no me gusta y las canciones me parecen completamente sin más, ni siquiera lo acabé
No pude ni acabarlo. No me gusta la voz ni el ruido de fondo, demasiado experimental
Not a fan of LCD Soundsytem. Tried listening to this lp, but couldn’t get thru it
Didn’t even finish. Not my cup o’ tea at all.
I didn't think anyone could be more boring than Fatboy Slim.
While this album ended up going in a slightly more alt-rock direction than I thought it was heading from the opening track, it is still ostensibly a dance album. And dance is something I don't really do. I've always thought it would be far more interesting to make music like this than it is to actually listen to it, and so it often tends to hold my attention on that basis only - I kind of zone out thinking about the creative process and where the samples might have come from etc. From the brazen use of Kraftwerk on the opening track right through to the post-Strokes vocal treatment and Talking Heads-esque rhythmic choices, this album wears its influences well and truly on its sleeve. Nowhere near as deep as you get the impression it hopes it is, it's fairly repetitive, simplistic and crass, but well executed nonetheless. Lacking a bit of soul throughout really. One of numerous albums I've encountered which have left me scratching my head as to why precisely they made this list.
It went from mediocre to straight-up annoying
10 minute tracks that feel like they go on for 30 minutes...
Someone said, "The best single LCD Soundsystem studio album for sure". Oh dear. Life is too short for this unimaginative nonsense. 1/5.
Crap
War das Musik oder ein Soundtest?
Sounds like the kind of music I’d pretend to like to try and get a boyfriend in college.
This band has a handful of songs I like. On this record it's only the opener and the closer for me.
Not my thing
Genuinely uncomfortable to listen to.
Dosta užas, nisam mogla ni cijeli album poslušati. 1/5, 2/10
1001 ALBUMS- # 23 Lowest Common Denominator Soundsystem! My judging didn't even have 'Sound of Silver' making the podium with a Bronze! I went in with an open mind on this one as LCD Soundsystem has never captivated my interest (beyond Daft Punk is Playing at My House), sadly what I heard here did very little to convert me. Beyond the endless repetition of the dance beats, which I could look past in this genre of music if produced tastefully, however there was just nothing in this tripe songwriting that was remotely interesting. Unimaginative compositions, disposable lyrics, imitative of far more creatively talented groups (Can, Daft Punk, Delta 5, Gang of Four, Liquid Liquid, Talking Heads and even Franz Ferdinand ) with piss poor vocal delivery. Now I'm not a hater, only call it like I hear it…sorry James Murphy, legions of hipster followers can be very wrong. 🎧 Only Redeemable Track: New York I Love You, But You’re Bringing Me Down 🖼️ Album Artwork: Nailed the silver theme 🤣 Researching this ‘band’ only grew my disdain for Mr. Murphy, a wannabe musician who once proclaimed “the world doesn’t need anymore music” and who also faked the group’s break-up in order to generate buzz for concert ticket sales. Why oh why is this on the 1001 list??? The even bigger question is how are there two LCD albums on it 😐 Hit the Thumbs Up icon below if you enjoyed my take on the album :)
Sooo repetative
Eh
This is just not the vibe I'm in. Yeah, nope.
Not for me
Audio terrorism😭😭
It's often the case in movies when Navy Seals are training, they're in the cold water at night, pouring rain, doing burpees, holding up heavy logs over their head, suffering…..that was me for 56 min. Less the logs of course, and more of the suffering. Sometimes an album is acclaimed not because it's exceptionally great, but because it sounds exceptionally different from everything around it at the time and in the scene. This is a case study in how even music critics can lose their wits. Highlight(s): New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down Lowlight(s): Where to even start?
Started well then faded into boring
фу
Experimental electronic music is not for me.
Boring
No musical talent, no lyrical talent, no vocal talent. Not even good for background music.
no
Boring and soulless Next
These guys had another album on this list, it sucked too.
Off the bat I knew I was in for some shit, and I was right. I tried 4 songs, and 2 I skipped for being so bad, before I gave up 30 seconds in to the fourth. It’s choices like this that make me wonder how any of these people are taken seriously as music critics. Straight trash
Es muy feo esto.
Cling, clang, bleep, bloop.
Repetitive drivel.
Didn't like it
Ok this is awful. Like trying to pretentiously be something new like disco once was... Shallow and tinny. 1 Star
I did not care for this album. I found it incredibly boring, and can't even find a single thing I actually enjoyed about it.
Blah
I was just waiting for it do end. I guess I'm just a hater.
whatever spotify paid for me to stream this album was too much and i want a refund.
me deu dor de cabeca
Sucks. Turned it off halfway through.
Not for me. Too electric
correct
hip tones for robot people. if a yuppie was turned into music
annoying voice and weightless music: truly emblematic of 2007!
this is getting rough, so many terrible albums
This makes me feel very uncomfortable
Musik zum Tanzen. Am Anfang. Dachte ich. Dann nur noch langweilig.
Did not enjoy
This stinks. Why is every song so repetitive and so bastard long? Please make it stop.
Too experimental. 1/5
Why in the world did you start with this one? There is no chance that I would ever listen to this. It's electronic drum beats, mostly the same beat, with innocuous lyrics and nothing of any musical interest. Other than that, I loved. it.
Not for me
Forgettable electronica
There's nothing about this that I enjoy.
if lcd soundsystem has no haters that means i am dead
Not a go…just not my style at all. Much of it sounded like tools banging together.
Meeeh
Gave up after three songs, not for me.
Very monotonous songs. Each song has one rhythm and chord; very annoying. Only the last (New York...) as a little chord progression of four bars.
Not my taste
A second LCD Soundsystem album? Why? The first one was bad and this one is no better. Same story different album. Started off ok with electronic music and then devolved into indie music. Can't sing. The lyrics are awful. Everything is questionable. Stay away.
it's not for me
While I understand that this type of music takes some level of skill to make, it does not appeal to me very much. The beats felt pretty repetitive (so much cowbell) and the vocalist just didn't do enough for me to make up for it. There were stronger tracks for me like Someone Great and All My Friends, but even those felt long and wore out their welcome for me. A lot of this would be fine if it was like...in the soundtrack to the right movie.. but I cannot think of a time in my life I will ever want to sit and listen to this again.
So it all comes down to this: what do you expect from music? If you just want to dance or have a beat in the background while you do something else, this album should do as well as thousands of others. If you expect a musical expression of fundemental truths, look elsewhere.
The first track was okay. Then the rest of it was a bunch of unoriginal, boring crap. If this does it for you, then great. There are some of this ilk that I like. This one isn't any of those.
Not my thing at all
“It’s not getting better, man. It’s just getting old.”
I don’t like this
I think I was in the wrong state of mind to truly appreciate this album. I can understand where the trance genre description comes from now. I like things which focus more on melody than beat.
Repetitive synthesizer music
🤨
Nope. Nope. Nope. I'm out.
Some electro elements but in total it is boring
Don't understand the hype tbh
not my cup of tea
I did not know this before, I listened briefly and it is unfortunately not really my taste. Other than that, I found it very creative, mixing different styles into a very unique sound.
The singing borders on moaning. The beat on Time to Get Away is groovy but the singer keeps opening his mouth. Sometimes less is more, and less singer would definitely help this album. All My Friends is the first song where everything has worked together. Us V Them kind of sounds like the home depot commercial song. The base on Sound of Silver is funky. I found this album to be jarring to listen to. The singer is not good and actively made songs worse. Most of the good instrumental pieces were made worse by including vocals. All My Friends was really the only highlight to me. This is not an album I have any intention of listening to again.
In a nutshell: a case of sophomore album blues. Loops galore, glockenspiel, cowbell, handclaps… I don’t hear anything groundbreaking or new here. Overall: 2/10.
It was bland
this was awful, i thought i would like them cause i remember them being everywhere when i was younger, but like… i hated it all. apart from the last song, the first half of it, i remember it i think, it was good i guess for a bit of it anyways. i’m glad i didn’t have to listen to them anymore and i hope they’re not on here again jesus.
1. get innnocouz - 1 2. time to get auuy - 1 3.north american zcum - 1 4. zomeone great - 1 5. all my friendz - 0 6. uz vz them - 0 7. uuatch the tapez - 0 8. zound of zilver - 0 9. neuu york - 0
Truthfully the most uninteresting album we have listened to. Something about it was so utterly milk toast I can't get up the energy to be mad. Not even sure why its in the list.
I have to admit that it is a testament to the game I was playing while listening to this that I made it through this album, and also because it was my first one to listen to since joining this group, I wanted to stay in the spirit of things…. ….. but my god this was awful. I only know of LCD Soundsystem by the song ‘Daft Punk is playing at my House’ which I don’t mind, but this album felt like a fever dream of weird instrumentation and unenjoyable singing. Not a fan.
I swear that bastard was playing eighth notes on ONE piano key for an ENTIRE song. Lyrics are weak and repetitive, music simplistic and sometimes just noise over what could have potential to be a good song. Ditch the keyboard player and you'd have a decent garage band. Very 80's. Oof. I am starting to lose faith in this list.
I really don’t like electronic music. American scum was one of the worst songs I’ve listened to
LCD Soundsystem introduces us to a different sound on his "Sound of Silver" long play. However, distancing from the usual does not always mean doing a good job. Some tracks in this project bored me to death and many others caused physical pain to me. Not even those more popular songs are spotless to me. Overly repetitive structures, exaggeratedly long songs and imperfect mixings contribute to the worst possible rating for this album.
2007. No. I couldn’t listen to this one. BPM too high for 430am and the songs didn’t get any better to me
An interesting album, but just not something I'd want to listen to again
This is an album that dares to ask: “What if there was a cool guy at a cool party in New York?” over and over for almost an hour. If Chuck Klosterman were born in 1985 he would have written a fifteen thousand word think piece about how great this album is, and you’d read it and say, “Really?” This one is very much of my time, and I liked it then. I hate it now. Gruel for millennials. Real bad stuff.
I've never understood the appeal of LCD Soundsystem. This album reminds me of a drunken night out: loud, vapid, chaotic, and ending with a literal hangover of a song. Maybe I wouldn't mind this playing in the background of a lobby or cocktail bar while I do more interesting things with my life.
Get Innocuous : 44 Time to get away: 55 North America Scum : 20 Someone Great: 60 All my friends: 60 Us V Them: 32 Watch the Tapes: 28 Sound of Silver: 19 New york I love you: 12 Overall thoughts: I don't know who this album is for but's its definitely not for me, just bad, gave me a headache to listen to some of the songs
There are a lot of sonically annoying things going on in this album. I would call them poor dissonant choices. There are ways to do dissonance well and this isn't it. You can really tell they're trying to be an updated DEVO and they just suck instead.
I’m sure this aBlum is objectively good, but I just can’t listen without getting annoyed. Not my cup of tea.
AJ: Booooooooooo Cat: As with many artists, not the worst thing I ever heard until the vocalist opens their mouth. I do like the North America Scum song because it reminds me of Stepbrothers
Ok
i do not like this
Not for me. Electronic beats. Little Melody.
??? Horrible music ?
Boring!!!!!!
Could not listen, I tried ..
Couldn't listen to this
Like a terrible compilation album of bands who think EDM is the new rock n roll. It's not, and never will be. A diverse array of styles, all of them rubbish. I was not surprised to find this was music made by an industry veteran - it sounds so calculated it could have been written by a focus group, like a lot of acts who have former managers, producers, or label bosses involved in writing the music.
Not my cup of tea
human music
Désolé... Connais pas du tout... Je vais aller jeter une oreille sur Spotify... Sorry, I have never heard this LP... I'm going to Spotify in order to repear this big (?) mistake...
I don't like this band at all
Holy crap this is repetitive and every song is too long. So many of the sounds are annoying AF.
I'm not sure that it is horrible, or I like different music in every aspect...
Not for me, never got the hype for this first time around either.
No idea.
Sorry, but it's not the kind of music I listen to...
2021.11.30 north american scum watch the tapes new york, i love you
Wow. This sounds like absolute garbage to me. Why do people enjoy this? I really don't understand at all.
Shite
What utter boring rubbish
Never listened to this band before - I assumed I wouldn't like it. I was right. It's horrible.
I managed to go through the album while having somewhat enjoyed exactly 1 song. It's noisy, in a bad way
peepee fart butt
Not nice
Love, love, love
