Love LCD! Great album...

80’s sounding electronica

A mixed bag. I liked the catchy beats, but I wasn't a fan of the weird wannabe David Byrne vocals. LCD Soundsystem is such a fake band name though. If you fed every single thought of humanity into an AI and asked it to spit out a band name, that's what it would come up with and then enslave you to create weird ass Talking Heads electronic beats to fulfill its sick and twisted robot fantasies. You know how words like "Velcro" and "Band-Aid" are actually copyrighted brand names but nobody even knows the actual generic terms for these objects so we just substitute the brand names? That's what LCD Soundsystem sounds to the concept of music itself. Fake music. Who is the lead singer of LCD Soundsystem? Bet you don't know. I don't know either. Why? Because he never existed. This is all just a figment of your imagination and you, the person currently reading this review for "Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem", has been in a coma for the past 7 years and need to wake up. - "Oh what are you listening to?" - "I AM CATCHING THE SOUNDWAVES OF LCD SOUNDSYSTEM, FELLOW HUMAN" - "God damn it, Carl" Sorry forgot my meds. I just wrote that previous paragraph in a stream of consciousness. Not even gonna spellcheck. Call me Ulysses or whatever. So in conclusion, this is a weak 3/5.

Not my thing, objectively fine, but dull.

This is cool, bounced off me a bit the first time I listened to it but I've enjoyed it a lot more coming back to it now. It's consistent all the way through - a good pace with enough variety that you don't get into your comfort zone - with a handful of really good songs (Someone Great, All My Friends and New York). The album as a whole doesn't seem to drag, but most of the songs do; you've got to be questioning yourself when your average song is over 6 minutes long! Doesn't quite merit a 4, but it's not far off - 3/5.

Some great tracks .

The year is 2007. It's summer. I also just turned 21, and had just started my first “grown up” job. I had said “nah” to society’s expectation that I go to college, and went to the arctic instead. You could either find me at work, the Legion, or outside on the tundra in front of a bonfire. It was a glorious summer spent with friends outside, making memories, and listening to music. All the music I listened to that summer still gets me hyped for a fun summer evening spent under the midnight sun with friends, nothing but life and years in front of us. Except I wasn’t listening to this album, because I was dumb. What a mistake.

The only track worth listening to - because of the lyrics - is New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down (the music in this one is OK, too). The rest is just run-off-the-mill dance music without anything catching my interest. I saw this album being compared to Daft Punk one time or the other. But I don't hear that. Daft Punk are ahead of this by several miles. 2.5/5

It’s ok. Not really my type of music to begin with. There were some good cuts here and there. A bit pretentious tho.

Crazy to me that after hearing Losing My Edge for the first time, I was totally off James Murphy as an artist, but then I heard All My Friends and I've been a fan ever since. There are some extremely good ideas in it, but it's too repetitive at times

“Sound of silver, talk to me, makes you want to feel like a teenager, until you remember the feelings of a real life emotional teenager, then you think again.” The most improbably lengthy, yet still catchy, hook I have ever known. I’ve been a fan of LCD Soundsystem for quite some time, but have never strayed far beyond their excellent 2010 album “This is Happening” (sadly not in the 1001 list- I checked). I’ve tried to get into Sound of Silver before but have never made it through, so I’m glad to have given it more time here, because it’s brilliant. The best or worst thing about LCD Soundsystem, depending on one’s angle, is that James Murphy is a born magpie, shamelessly cherry-picking from his record collection and spinning old hits and deep cuts into new concoctions. Is this a smart skewing of DJ and electronica sampling in a rock environment? Is it an example of post-modern bricolage to reflect our increasingly fractured world, just like a shattered mirrorball? Or is it just a huge rip-off? Kraftwerk, Pete Shelley, Bowie, David Byrne and many more could put a reasonable case in after hearing this album, as well as any other by Murphy. Bowie’s response to Murphy’s plagiarism admission? “You can’t steal from a thief, darling.” My feelings are similar: everything is borrowed in one way or another. All heroes have heroes and nothing is made in a vacuum, like it or not. With this album, Murphy just about stays on the right side of pastiche. “Get Innocuous” is a very well-constructed opening, from the distinctive synth percussion intro, to the bassline filtering its way into existence, to the echoing foreboding vocals right up to the chant towards the end. It’s completely addictive and had me hooked as it unfurled all the way. The third track, “North American Scum” is an adrenaline-fuelled stomper with a satisfyingly beefy sound and passionate, furious vocals from Murphy. But “Someone Great” and “All My Friends” are on another level: sublime tracks making up the heart of the record. Immediate, emotive, simple: true modern classics, and the fact we get them back to back here is astonishing. My only gripe is that these two centrepieces set such a high bar for the rest of the record. The other two highlights are “Us v Them”, an admirable epic which manages to keep the momentum going against all odds after “All My Friends”, and the stirring, dejected “New York I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down”. On the other hand, “Sound of Silver” and “Watch the Tapes” could have arguably been trimmed out to make a much tighter album. “Time to Get Away”, too, is relatively lightweight, enjoyable but failing to reach the same heights as most of the other songs here. Still, this is an immediate, irresistible hit. Catchy, immaculately produced and full of humour and heart, it’s a nine out of ten for sure.

Typical of the 00s - sarcastic, neurotic yet hedonistic in outlook - great beats genuinely funny writing and memorable hooks throughout - a very good record.

- is this like a challenge how long can we just repeat the beat before starting the song. is this just 7 minutes of adding onto the beat? i'm getting into it now but took a while to get us here. - *insert dancing emoji here* you can normalize, don't it make you feel alive? - its already losing me a bit at North American Scum (not a fan of children shouting things in songs lol) - i have been liking a lot of these but what is with the trend of "let's repeat the same line over and over again for a while" thing like i'm bored move on this song is already over six minutes and it doesn't have to be (not that i hate long songs but i hate long songs when this is the reason they are long) - huh bit of a change of mood on All My Friends, like this piano (again with the repetitiveness of it all though) - New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down what a mood. might be liking this the best glad to end the album on a high note. overall impressions, i think its really more 3.5 stars for me, but that's not an option so i rounded down. like i liked it but i think that a lot of this could have been edited down to make it a bit less repetitive. songs can be long and engaging for a full 7 minute runtime but just repeating the same thing gets old fast, especially when its used across multiple songs.

This album is decent. I enjoyed some of the songs, but most are just good for background music. Like with most electronica, you can't pay too much attention to the music or else it'll get too repetitive and will become annoying to listen to. Best to put this album on and do something else while this plays in the background. Favorite song: Someone Great Worst song: New York I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down

The album that got me into them

awesome alternative sound

This is not important music. This is anything BUT important, profound music. What it is is fun. It's still art, just something like pop art. Wacky and sometimes goofy (although not as goofy as some of their other material). A fun listen.

Just keeps getting better. 3/5

James Murphy wears his influences on his sleeve here. If you’re a fan of David Bowie, Brian Eno, Talking Heads and/or Kraftwerk, you’ll probably find something to like. Conversely, you might hate it because it’s a little on-the-nose.

This was an interesting album. Electronic vibes all the way through. North american scum all time song. I probably am going to have to watch Step Brothers after this. The guys voice is kinda insane but it definitely works in some spots. Decent 4/10

Overall a great album. It’s pretty catchy and has memorable electronic rock songs. I really enjoyed the beats throughout each song, and the unique sound has some strong impressions throughout the listen-through. A few gripes I have about it, however, is that some songs tend to get repetitive without a feeling of progression, and the style feels inconsistent at times, bouncing from song to song. Favorite track: All My Friends

The thing that I don't like about a lot of LCD Soundsystem is that they often use the trope of repeating chords quickly to make dance music, and I really dislike this approach. There are a lot of ways to create compelling dance music, and this is one of the lazier approaches. On the other hand, they employ a lot of compelling aspects in pretty much every other facet. I think that the last song, "New York I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down" is an all-time high for the band. All this being said, I get why this is an essential album, and LCD's influence can be seen throughout contemporary music. Highlights: 1, 4, 5, and 9.

I quite liked this album. Some of the first songs seemed like all build up, but the second half of the album was better. Last song was my favourite.

Yet another album that makes us marvel at the peaks and depths of the music experience.

Banger

This one was a bit of a roller coaster. The songs have good energy and they were good to listen to out on a walk/run. Electronic sound with upbeat tempo. The sound can get repetitive within a song as a lot of the sounds just pound on sixteenth notes all the way through the song. It actually can get a bit tiring to listen to the whole album. I probably would have dropped it down to 3 stars by the end, but then New York I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down saved it and brought it back up to a 4. That last song was great.

I wasn't a fan at the start but the album grew on me as I got further through. The building of the loops at the start of most songs is interesting to hear though, for me, some go on a bit too long to remain interesting. 'All My Friend', 'Watch the Tapes' and 'New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down' were particular highlights for me

It's alright, I think? I dunno there's some pretty odd stuff on here and it makes me wonder who this was made for.

I have a difficult relationship with this album. I love everything that LCD Soundsystem did for electronica. I think this is a great album from a musical standpoint. So many of my favorite musicians list this album as a favorite and I get it. But I just don't love it. For me, it's a touch too cerebral and self-aware, the exact qualities that other love about it. It just doesn't touch me in any emotional way at all. It's undoubtedly a great album but it's not my favorite album. 4/5

I didn't like LCD Soundsystem's first album and wrote off their later releases. This album has changed my mind about them, and I'm definitely more interested in the other LCD title on the 1001 List. Get Innocuous! worried me with its beginning of the long droning note, but really kicks this album into high gear from the start. North American Scum and Us v. Them are supremely danceable and really fun. All My Friends is a bit too repetitive for my liking, but Watch the Tapes is a better example of a less dance-y track that works alongside the more dance oriented numbers.

I wonder how Sound of Silver sounds to someone walking into an LCD Soundsystem album without knowing what they'll be getting. The band has had so much influence on groups I love that I can't even imagine the experience. As a whole, the thing holds together well with the exception of New York. It's a great song, but doesn't work as the left turn at the end of an hour. The songs manage to stay fresh with a rather stripped-down palettes, James Murphy masterfully doing much.

Fun album. Kind of seesaws between 80's esoteric dance and mid-00's indie.

My bird liked this very much and chirped along with the music.

Best Song: A raw and somehow melancholy dance track that builds in a satisfying, continuous crescendo. Good stuff. Worst Song: Time to Get Away. Probably the weakest vocals on the album, especially in the upper register. Overall: An electronic album that feels personal and sad and uplifting and authentic. It feels like the moment on a night out when you suddenly remember that there is a broader world out there, and that in the morning you have to do whatever obligations you might have to do, but you keep partying anyway. Only now, the party feels tinted, if not tainted, with that knowledge that it's only for a little while longer.

So the contributors see this group as equally relevant for must hear albums as AC/DC? Ridiculous. Not a bad album, but is completely bland and unnecessary on the list.

Every time I listen to LCD Soundsystem, I think "I should listen to LCD soundsystem more". As a lover of snowboard film soundtracks from around 2010, I love this vibe.

wasn’t my favorite, but not my least favorite.

Toe-tapper after toe-tapper on this album. Originality was something sorely lacking at this point in music history but LCD Soundsystem tapped into something very unique to create “nu-disco” and this album is a pure celebration of this fact. The best songs they would ever write including the soaring “All My Friends”. That song alone would merit 5 stars to be quite frank. Incredible album.

Fun electronica

The first song gave me a headache, and it didn’t get much better after that. I was unaware there were this many UK 90’s/200’s Electronic group albums on this list, and I have to say I’m very disappointed.

I've heard of this group before but I never delved into their discography before. Typically this isn't the normal type of music that I enjoy but overall I was pleasantly surprised. I'd listen to it again but I don't think I'd add them to my regular listening rotation.

Started good then a bit dreary

I was positively surprised that LCD Soundsystem wasn't just electronic music. This was better than average.

Enjoyable for hopping around the room when you want to burn some energy but not something I would listen to regularly

From the first 3 seconds, this album just hooks me in. I appreciate this album more every time I listen to it. It does drag a bit (specifically when it gets to "All My Friends", and then again in the last couple songs) but makes up for it with so many great jams, at times just mesmerizing. Faves are "North American Scum" and "Watch the Tapes."

It's almost as if LCD Soundsystem is custom tailored specifically for my musical taste. His influences are impeccable and he brings them together in such a way that makes it seem fresh. I think it largely has to do with his more down to earth, at times even vulnerable, lyrics and vocal delivery. Perfect balance of electronic and human elements with just the right amount of humor thrown in. Love pretty much everything about his approach and never get tired of it. If there were only one band we could use as a model for what we are doing musically, this would be it for me.

So much more dancey than the later works I’ve heard. I knew “All My Friends” which is an excellent example of a driving simple note progression that stays the same but all the while sounds great.

I think for my first LCD Soundsystem record I can see mostly why it's such a popular artist, pretty simple and hypnotic once you get really deep into some of these songs on the album. Didn't really like the final song, but overall I thought this was great

This for me is a 5. I love lcd, I love this album. All my friends is my favorite song of all time, I love it so so so much and whenever I hear it I have so many emotions pop up. It has been with me for so many years and seeing them live was so cool and incredible and hearing my favorite song live was spectacular. I was ironically by myself listening to all my friends. The top songs from this are all my friends, someone great, new york I love you but you're bringing me down, but they're all great. the backstory of this album is so interesting. I just love everything about it. They're def not for everyone but I think if people gave them a fair chance they would actually enjoy their music. always 5 minutes and up which is actually kind of great considering all my friends is 7 minutes long and I never want it to end. it's a good move to pick a favorite song that's really long. happy to listen to my favs.

Not a bad album but I find it hilarious how almost all of these electronica albums that are on this 1001 list are the exact opposite of what everyone needs to listen to before they die. In other words, it's electronica that in almost every case isn't very good, that no one personally seeks to listen to, or is too experimental to carry any sort of melody or want to get you out of your seat. You'd think we'd hear more of the big time artists but I suppose not. Anyway, 6/10.

Too cool for school, detached, robot-like (Daft Punk influenced) electronica and yet something here still intrigues and bounces you along. Do you dance or chill? Maybe neither. Maybe you’re in that tramodol space inbetween.

Listening to this is like wearing a weighted blanket (insert heart). Reminds me of my peak NYC living years. Struck by how much "NY, I Love You But You Are Bringing Me Down" reminds me of Violent Femmes this time around. Favorite tracks this listen: "Time to Get Away" & "All My Friends".

The best single LCD Soundsystem studio album for sure. I love everything they did through the MSG "farewell" run, shame that James Murphy has become cringe ever since reforming the band

I’d never actually sat down and listened to an LCD sound system album. I ended up listening to it 3 times and then their next album too. Great as background music, but also a lot more variety to it than I expected.

I was really excited when this album came up. I listened to it a lot when it debuted and have a lot of great memories of it being on when hanging out with friends. The first 3 LCD albums are all superb but if I had to choose a fav, this is it.

Great album with a lot of classic LCD tunes

This was much better than I was expecting! I really enjoyed all of it! Lots of cowbell.

Two wrongs don't make a right, but two negatives equal a positive ... (?) This is one of those albums that I should absolutely hate and for some reason I cannot explain, I absolutely love. The repetition, the fake-ass drum machines the doink! doink! doinks... should drive me crazy but I keep coming back to this album and all of LCDS work. The only thing I have to explain this is the underlying bitter tone and sarcasm of James Murphy. That paired along the mostly no frills pseudo-80's electronica acts a double negative. Best tracks, North American Scum, New York, I Love You, Get Innocuous!, Someone Great. Actually this whole album is great and should be required for anyone doing multiplication with two negatives.

I really can't decide how I feel about LCD Soundsystem. None of their stuff has ever really grabbed me before. And that's mostly how I felt listening to "Sound of Silver." I also think that a lot of these songs are too repetitive and go on to long, needing the beat to break when it instead goes on and on. The first track, was like this, and it did nothing for me. The acclaimed "All My Friends" is also guilty - that track could be great if the main synth part wasn't quite so sharp, or quite so insistent, or just didn't go on non-stop for over 7 minutes. On second listen, a few tracks got me tapping my foot, and I warmed up to it a bit. But even those better tracks sometimes wore out their welcome by going too long or being too repetitive. I think I liked "Watch The Tapes" best, in part because it avoids those pitfalls. Some of this is very electronica, and some of it is more akin to the dance rock that has been popular in the 00s and 10s (which was probably in large part inspired by acts like LCD Soundsystem). I enjoyed those parts of "Sound of Silver" more, but I also feel like the modern bands that followed them have done it better.

First listen I did not like this album. 2nd listen was better and I got a lot of work done thanks in part to the driving beat of most of the songs but it still faded into the background for me. Split the difference, 2 stars.

This album makes me want to dance, shimmy, and shake. All My Friends is a magnificent song. I love the repeated synthesizer part that drives throughout the song. I sincerely hope this part is on a digital loop for live shows and that there isn’t somebody that has to play that same repeating notes for 7+ minutes. I could nitpick a couple things like 8 1/2 minutes being too long for Us V Them and a couple funky cowbell-like sounds, but I won’t. This electro-pop, sometimes bordering on trance-pop, sound is remarkable. Now let’s dance!

It starts off well and i thought i could get into it, but sadly not the case. A little too experimental for my taste. All my friends is decent. Found the rest of the album quite repetitive and hard to finish.

This was long overdue for a relisten, I REALLY liked this album. The title track, "North American Scum," "Watch the Tapes," and "All My Friends" were my faves.

A very arty album, the kind of thing you imagine a 30y/o writes in his new york attic conversion. Most of it was quite enjoyable, the last track is a bit melodramatic for me but overall good fun

I remember listening to them at Austin City limits music festival several years ago and I think the album is a little different from what I heard at that concert it's a lot of energy I like it

It’s got sounds for sure

Interesting... I'd been meaning to hear this album for years, as it's been touted as some kind of classic. I don't think it's that, but it's an interesting blend of dance , pop, indie and 80's styles.

I said a few weeks ago on this list that The Suburbs by Arcade Fire was the definitive millennial rock album. After listening to Sound of Silver today maybe 3 times I don’t think I was wrong, but I really had to give my statement some thought. I had known most of the big LCD Soundsystem songs but had never listened to any of their albums all the way through. I think I had also maybe seriously started listening to them in 2010 when they were wrapping up the band for the first time. This was such a triumph to listen to. Starts strong, doesn’t ever lose steam and is the rare album that saves its strongest song for the end. I’m not into dance or electronic music (although have dug some of the records on this list) but this just transcends a bunch of genres into its own thing. It has the elements of scrappy garage rock that make it so exciting and immediate, and the the repetition of rave and dance that just puts you in a higher state of being. This is the music of being a young dirtbag in the city, living away from home for the first time and feeling invincible before your back starts hurting. Amazing supplemental material to this album: the Franz Ferdinand cover of All My Friends is so good. Amazing song for Franz. In addition: the video on YouTube of New York I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down with Kermit singing. Seemingly the official video? I would give 6 stars if I could.

Wildly derivative, of course, especially if you're a fan of the late 70s post-punk NYC scene. But plenty to enjoy and New York I Love You is one heck of a showstopper.

To much electronica for me personally

Better than I thought it would be. I actually found myself bobbing my head along a couple of times.

Sound of Silver contains some of my favorite songs of the 2000s. Taking from a lot of my favorite influences like New Order, Talking Heads, etc. It's a no brainer that those songs click. However, there's a few excellent songs and the rest are just good. The kind of songs that sound great when in the mood but will irritate the hell out of you and whoever's listening on the wrong day. Favorite Tracks: All My Friends, Someone Great, New York I Love You

I feel like this album helped propel indie/alt music into a new vibe towards the end of the 2000s. It's new, exciting, fresh sound is super easy to jam along to and the production is fantastic. Loving the synths and soundboard tricks used on this release. Highly respect the sound and the creative approach during a time when the music industry wasn't really exploding with outside-the-box bands/albums. Great Album. LCD Soundsystem mix of dance/punk/electronic/indie is unmistakable and extremely catchy. The use of repeating passages, layering more and more sounds makes for songs that are instantly accessible and groovy. Although my one criticism would be that they rely quite heavily on this method, it makes for songs that are quite long and begins to feel a little formualic by the end of the album. Overall still a fantastic album, really paved the way for Electronic Indie/Dance in the years since. 6/24/2022 - ALBUM #148 Today's Album: "Sound Of Silver" by LCD Soundsystem - This album is freaking phenomenal. I had been exposed to LCD Soundsystem in the past, through their follow up to this project, This Is Happening, and they quickly became one of my favorites pop outfits. The mastery of control over sound was immediately noticable from that record, and I'm happy to say they're just as talented in this project than they were on their next, if not even better. In this album, each of the songs are an incredible showcase of the sonic range of this artist. The track Get Innocuous! is a great introduction to the pumping basslines, diligently crafted synth tones, lively drum play, and the frequent auxiliary sounds that keep each bar feeling interesting and fresh. It feels like there was so much intention put into each little section of the track so that even though there are a lot of looping parts, it very rarely feels boring or played out. The vocal performance is also absolutely incredible and the track It's Time to Get Away is a great showcase of this, with these falsetto flourishes that he maintains such solid control over. Another great example is the pretty much perfect track that is, "New York I Love You, but You're Bringing Me Down", which may be one of the best vocal performances I have heard in terms of range alone. It also serves as a fantastic closer for this album, taking the amazing energy from Sound or Silver and taking it down a notch in order to build to a climactic and satisfying conclusion. The track Someone Great also stands out as a really great track, managing to stay entertaining and sound beautiful for a whopping 6.5 minutes. I think the real star of the show for this album, though, is the production. The way that the sounds are mixed makes a listen of this album with headphones an absolutely memorizing experience and each instrument, especially the drums synths, have such perfect effects on them, making the album feel effortlessly enjoyable and like it will be able to be enjoyed for a long time without feeling dated. Overall, this album is just spectacular and mesmorizing. It feels like I could listen to this 1000 times and I would still notice new sounds due to how sonically dense it is. Constantly rhythmic, always evolving, subtly complex. Lyrics that slide between dancefloor anthems and deeper emotional outpours. A complete masterpiece.

new york one is noice...

The book has it right, this is a low key, brilliant album. Unquestionably their best, and most consistent. Been a fan of these since Losing My Edge turned up on a label sampler my friend had, thought that was cool, then heard the amazing, blipping, squelchy Yeah and the New-Order-on-amphetimines Beat Connection and I was sold. The debut was good with some obvious high points but I found myself listening to the familiar disc of pre-existing singles much more. This is a fully formed album from the off, opener Get Innocuous dismissing any fears they'd spaffed most of their best ideas before even releasing an album. The weaker songs 'time to get away', 'watch the tapes' and the title track are still full of hooks and good enough to keep the vibe going. 'Weaker' being a relative term, as compared against the delicious joyful-mournfully celebratory 'Someone Great' and ultimate anthem to nostalgic wanderings through lost weekends and togetherness, 'All of My Friends'. Far and away the 2 best songs here, and the latter probably the best the band ever did. After that Us V Them is an admirable attempt to combine their best bits from other songs and does a good job, 'New York...' sends us home tripping up the first two stairs on our way to bed with a crashing indie rock jam. It's a great album.

Somewhat repetitive but better than the last LCD Soundsystem album i bought for £3 in Fopp. I miss Fopp.

I liked the first few songs but then it got bland and repetitive

I enjoyed this one. I could hear how they influenced artists I really like, but I kept thinking that the artists I really like took what this band was doing and made it better, which is why 3 stars is the most I can give.

Had trouble getting through this one.

Pretty disappointing, considering I've been hearing this band's name for years. The recipe is: make a groove with interesting and varied instruments, repeat it for six minutes, yelp over the top, and for god's sake don't change the groove or develop your lyrics. This was a chore to get through; I kept hoping they would turn a corner. But the last track was a major redemption! That one, at least, is really great and succeeds in many of the ways that the rest of the album fails.

I'd write something about this album but I'm way too busy dancing to its amazing beats! No ok, I'm not really dancing. I'm not even standing up. I'm on a chair, I'm always on a chair. My back hurts.

Yeah this is great. Funky and danceable punk that's pretty hard not to groove along to. North American Scum is really catchy and had a little Queens of the Stone Age attitude. Some punchy production going on here and the synthwork is really awesome on cuts like Someone Great. Enjoyed this quite a bit!

Mehhhh I feel like the music I dismissed as a teen- ie emo, nu metal, a lot of indie and pop/R&B from this particular period- will always remain mid to me. D

Hated it at first, but it did end up delivering a couple bops.

My first time listening to LCD Soundsystem, and I'm impressed. Vocals remind me of the Strokes but more spunk (biggest example is "North American Scum"). The energy mixed with slightly distorted high vocals also remind me of TV on the Radio (mostly in "Time to Get Away"). Melody is very disco-esque with some notes of the weirdness of Devo and Talking Heads. There's also a lot of techno influence, with the strongest being the opener "Get Innocous" (note the eery vocals that sound just like David Byrne) and "Sound of Silver." It also foreshadows retro / synthwave of the coming decade, especially in "Someone Great." So there's a lot of sounds and influences going on, but overall I'm a huge fan for it's own merit. All the tracks had something to offer. Not being repetitive yet incredibly fun to dance to, all the long timestamps were warmly welcomed. I'm also a big fan of the "New York" ballad closer. The production is on point, all the familiar sounds make it accessible to new listeners and would not stand out too much from being played at almost any type of dance party.

I didn't like LCD Soundsystem at the time they released their first three albums. I guess I was still a little too nostalgic for the nineties indie rock sound, and I found their party-driven, four-on-the-floor hits too shallow at first glance. But since those days, I've completely come around on what James Murphy set out to do with this band. Now I understand. Now I can shake my butt on those tracks AND appreciate the overall artistic intent, not to mention the often witty lyrics. Since those days, I've also learned to enjoy many classic albums by David Bowie and Talking Heads, and it's now clear to me why so many people at the time saw Murphy as the heir apparent of those legendary acts. So yeah, that string of three records LCD Soundsystem released during the aughts is part of my current CD collection and I often return to it. And this particular record here is probably the tighter, most effective of the lot. The first five tracks are absolute bangers, a relentless assault of clever sounds, mesmerizing rhythms and hooks, very much of their time, but still timeless. The simple, yet artfully thought-out arrangements on a track such as "Someone Great"--including that charming glockenspiel doubling up the main vocals--are showing how you can be both minimal *and* expansive for that sort of song (its runtime says 6 minutes, but they feel like three, honestly). Side B is more subtle, but it keeps you on your toes for its whole run. Those synth-processed backing vocals in the title track are nothing short of amazing, for example. And formidable closer "New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down" is both ironic AND moving, which is a combination rarely reached in modern music. So it's easily five stars for me now. As the French say, only fools never change their minds... This is a great album. One of the best dance albums I've ever heard, but it's the surprise songs that put this album over the top....New York I Love You...I mean come on what a song. But it's Someone Great that is the show stopper. No there's othing quite as great as Losing My Edge, but as a whole Sound if Silver beats the debut. 4.5 🌟

Not into this at all.

I enjoyed this album and felt it was one of lcd’s better albums. Their songs have such an interesting style and range. The beats are solid and unique. Lyrically there is some depth but sometimes it feels a little pretentious. Overall pretty good. 7.0/10

One of the best sounding albums ever

Boring. At first I thought this was a British band because of how slow it was. It reminds me of that "human music" joke from the tv show Rick and Morty. It's music that could be played on any radio station, at any time of the day.

James Murphy is my spirit animal.

The cover looks like a psychological thriller movie poster. Not sure what to expect. The track titles seem much more playful. Giving it a spin and ... electronica. OK! Actually, meh. Starts strong but drags on and on. There is some electronica or dance or experimental music that I like a lot but this isn't it. I don't hate it, but nothing grabs me about it. I am lukewarm on the vocals (2/5) though I do like the lyrics pretty well (3.5/5) but the music isn't doing it for me (2/5) there are interesting stretches (4/5) but it all winds up repetitive (2/5) although in a few cases that gave it time to grow on me (us v them)(3/5). Fave tracks: Get Innocuous!, All My Friends I can't say I'm clear why this album is on this list. Based on the reviews some people (who were young when I was not) have *very* fond memories of this album. A little ecstasy goes a long way, I guess.

I mean I’ve herd of the name but I have no clue what they entail… Get innocuous! has very strange but interesting vocals ( I don’t know if this will be a thing for the rest of the album) and it works well as an opener with the long instrumental build up. Time to get away starts off quite dull and it has very repetitive chorus which I don’t mind, the second half of the song is better because with the ( hoo hoo hoo’s) it just sounds more energetic I also like the outro on this one but it’s still not a favourite. North American scum has been lyrically best so far and i like the build up to the chorus but i’am starting to question his singing/ speaking style. Someone great has this weird sound what sounds like to someone doing then undoing a zip. The vocals are closer to that of get innocuous but I prefer it on here by looking at the repetitive lyrics I thought I would be annoyed by the bridge but it was probably the best. All my friends is the lyrically strongest at this point and it’s the first one I don’t have any criticism on the vocals for. This and many of the songs feel a bit too long all placed together for me as i’am used to albums with at most only one 7-9 minute song but i’am surprised how quickly they’re going past. Us v them is the longest song on here and i’am not to sure if it needs to be this long, it’s so repetitive lyrically but i like how the instruments build op on here, it does sound like a lot of the previous songs from a sonic perspective but more of a best of each bit then complete rip-off of before. Watch the tapes is good i mostly like the build up from pre chorus to chorus. Being one of the shortest songs though it did feel it was there to bridge gaps between us v them and Sound of silver the lyrics on here are so filler and so cringeworthy but I think the main attraction on this one are the instrumentals, which are good but it’s still my least favourite on the project. New York I love you but you’re bringing me down is a really strong lyrical song and a great pace changer for this group and it works perfect as a closer especially when it builds up. Overall I like this album i’am not too sure how often I would replay this because it seems like a grower, but I’ll perceiver as i can see why it’s good and there’s many fascinating songs. I thought that it only being 9 tracks that are mostly really long would put me off but due to the long song length it doesn’t matter so that’s good. I would also say that the best tracks on here are the most lyrically dense like all my friends.

I never fully got into LCD Soundsystem, although I don't dislike them either. They have some solid tracks that I enjoy listening to. This album specifically has some of my favorite tracks by them. Hard to choose between a 3 and a 4, but I'll lean towards 4.

Thought I would hate this. No, I should hate this. But, do I actually like it? Electronic dance music. Hmmm. I do like it. 4 on a first listen. Last 2 songs could have been removed for a better album. Almost lowers it to a 3.

Actually pretty great. Driving, mesmeric rhythms and great attitude. Maybe a little monotonous, but that's probably the point.

There are elements of this I like - the parts where they sound a bit Talking Heads-like with the quirky, bouncy melodies over a good funky groove - but also parts that I don't really care for - the inorganic feel to it, the repetitiveness and monotonousness that sometimes makes the songs seem 10 minutes long. Overall not bad, but not great. 3 stars.

I haven’t generally been a fan of this band, though this one grew on me over its course. Still strikes me as not as smart as it thinks it is, and at this point I’ve had enough “I’m from New York” attitude to last a lifetime. It’s just a place, you’re not special for being from (or being in) some particular place.

Resonant, funky, indulgent, a bit repetitive, and oh so nostalgic.

No prior known experience of LCD Soundsystem. On paper sounded like it could be up my street and Us v Them is a good track but mostly this was more boring than I'd anticipated. Repetitive loops and uninspired lyrics. I'd give it 2.5 but I reckon I could enjoy it more in a tent at a festival so on that loose premise I'll generously add half a star.

Just a nice shot of adrenalin. It checked my favorite box, that being an album I was completely unfamiliar with and enjoyed immensely right out of the box. I even listened multiple times and this pushed me to do over an hour on the treadmill while listening to it. In a nice piece of symmetry, as "Us V Them" was played at the end of the first episode of The Dropout, underscoring Elizabeth Holmes (or rather actress Amanda Seyfried) looking all smug. Actual rating is closer to a 4.5, there are just a few too many songs that pale in comparison to the bangers. But it's still a splendid surprise.

Big giant MEH from me. It had some decent moments but I didn’t care for it overall.

Cool album. Very interesting instrumentation and songwriting combo. I enjoy LCD Soundsystem's early stuff more than their later stuff.

Listened just yesterday to it. Infectious and driving referencing all the good stuff that's came before and inventing new things along the way. James Murphy is a great guy and his personality just flows out of the music. 'All My Friends' is such an anthem.

Over the past year, I've sampled some of LCD Soundsystem's songs. They're pretty good. I like the vintage synth sounds. I like the arrangments. The First song here is an example. It starts as a repetitive drum sample and fades in more and more instruments until...you're dancing. I like the vocals. But, I'm just not sure this is the type of music I want to reach for. I think it's good but rarely suits the mood. But I think James Murphy has done something incredible to make this music so broadly-appealing. I think they played Madison Square Garden on a couple night stand. I mean, that's big.

I tried really hard to hate this album. It's not really in my wheelhouse and - at least early on - the Casio keyboard sound annoyed me at the beginning of each track. But - it really kinda grew on me. I heard a little Beck, a little U2 at times - even some Stones-like vibes in fleeting moments. It kept me interested, and there really isn't a "bad" track on the whole album. I really dug "New York" - granted that was a big departure from the rest of the album. Good stuff, all around.

Alternative dance in 2007? Well that idea conjures a series of nostalgic scenes. We all know that there's a dance electronic band that ruled the 2000's. That's right, I'm talking about The Black Eyed Peas. Wait, what? LCD Soundsystem? Who are they? Oh, The White Stripes trying to make electronic music? That's interesting. So... people used to DANCE to this? Lmao. I think they could make a kickass punk album, but of course, it was already 2007 and they had to touch at least one music trend at the time such as EDM. They did it horribly, btw, or maybe I'm just biased against the personally boring EDM music.

I'm not sure that it is horrible, or I like different music in every aspect...

Fantastic album, my 2nd LCD Soundsystem listen on this list and I think this was a bit better than the first, though I also really enjoyed that one. Definitely a band I've been turned onto from this journey, you can tell that there's a perfectionism going into the music but then there's also this "imperfect" element added in mostly through the vocal stylings, but you can tell it's there on purpose. Added a few songs to the playlist from this one.

Ingredients: - 1 cup of The Strokes - 1 cup of Devo - 1.5 tsp of Television - .5 tsp of Daft Punk - 2 heaping tbsp of cowbell Directions: 1. Add all ingredients to silver saucepan. Stir to combine. 2. Bring to a boil, then let simmer on medium-low heat for 56 minutes and 12 seconds. 3. Pour into a silver bowl. Garnish with extra cowbell and percussion as desired. 4. Serve and enjoy.

Massive Open, consistent diverse sounds somewhere between White Stripes and OK GO, and it does it for me. Hell yes.

Really strong and hooky, template for the future, love the counterintuitive moodiness in the dance templates.

I think my favorite thing about this record is how every song on here feels like it begins with one instrument, and then slowly builds until it's a massive dance party. "North American Scum" is playing through my head whenever I travel abroad, and "All My Friends" is still one of my go-to depressed songs, even if it's somewhat about touring life. I fought against giving this a 5, but I don't really think I have any complaints, so a 5 it gets. Favorite tracks: "Get Innocuous!", "North American Scum", "Someone Great", "All My Friends"

Minha namorada já era fã da banda enquanto eu não fazia a mínima ideia de que existia. Talvez tenha a ver com o fato de ela ser dos EUA e alguns anos mais velha. Ouvimos enquanto a gente cozinhava a janta da terça à noite: arroz branco com Kunde, uma adaptação brasileira da comida nigeriana. O álbum mesmo não é tanto meu tipo de música, mas no final das contas acabei gostando.

No my usualy sort of music but suprisingly enjoyable. An intersting fusion of techno-ish music with a punk-like feel and even some more rock-like songs. A real mixed bag of tunes here. But nonetheless enjoyable! Especially the slower song at the end of the album.

Electro-Punk? Post-New Wave? Neo-Techno? My thinking about LCD Soundystem has always been that you had to be there to get it. And I was a long way away from here... It has that false DIY vibe (cc. Arular), but with none of the charm home made one man shows are supposed to promote. It just seems rather mechanical...

The lead track isn't lying - this LP arrives with a lot of pomp and circumstance only to retread 1-2 loops for seven minutes at a time, leading to an album full of mildly peppy background music. James Murphy tries to add some flair in the vox, but lacks the delivery, creativity, and quality of not being an asshole to make things work.

I really liked it at the beginning, but it does start to drag. I found the lyrics playful which made me want to listen in, but the album just got so repetitive that I had to break it into chunks to listen to it. There was a lot of upbeat slightly electronic inspired rock music in 2007 and this effort is better than most, but overall, I didn't find it to be earth-shatteringly good

Record collection rock: the dance remix. That's the annoying thing: the album is obviously great. It's clever, it's groovy, it rocks out, it's amusing, it's urbane. But it just tries one erg too hard to demonstrate that it's too cool for school. Imagine a posh kid bringing in a 100 quid skateboard to show off to his classmates, then tumbling off and breaking his front teeth on a kerbstone the first time he tries a grind. LCD Soundsystem don't embarrass themselves so (as I said, the album is great), but they always seem at risk of injuring themselves in their desire to impress. I suppose I could argue that, like a Tarantino film referencing Godard, part of the fun is clocking the allusions to Kraftwerk and Suicide and New Order and Pink Floyd and such and such, but that neglects the fact that at his worst, such trainspottery tendencies by Tarantino grate rather than amuse due to the perceived lack of a real emotional core. Really, I want to give this album 5 stars, but I hesitate at the sense of a brag over ownership of a mint-condition vinyl copy of Station to Station.

There are some real gems on this album. My faves are North American Scum, All My Friends, Us V Them, and New York . . .. Thanks to Wiki for letting us know that James Murphy and Tyler Hope both play the fun machine on Us V Them. How can you read that and not want to find out what a fun machine is? For the last LCD-S album sent to us, I waffled between a 4 and 5 and landed on 4. I like this LP at least as much and on this album they play the fun machine.

It gets off to a good start with Get Innocuous! which is nicely layered and rhythmic. I like the crisp production throughout, though I think I would have preferred less reliance on a drum kit and a bit more electronic kick drum to make it more dance-floor friendly, but that would have been a different animal. For me, the jury is still out on the lyrics and vocal style, which can be unmelodic and shouty at times. The last 3 songs don’t do it for me.

Most of the songs start out with some cool beats and hooks but then they seem to keep going on forever and overstay their welcome. If they mixed it up a bit and threw in some variety this album would have been far better. When the last song, NY I love you came on the change of pace was a blessed relief but alas it came too late.

I don't have a lot of experience with this sort of music, but this was a breeze to listen to. It had some really wonderful beats, and you can really feel that early 2000's vibe of punk rock suffused with the electronica. North American Scum & New York I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down are the standouts. Would recommend if you have a thing for early 2000's music in the same vein as The Gorillaz or The Killers, but with more dancing potential.

Not quite my thing, sounds fun at times, but there are elements that lose me. To be entirely honest, given all the hype surrounding the album, it wasn’t the masterpiece I was expecting. Still good. Especially a few bangers. I dunno, maybe I’ll learn to like it more. Some fun dancing songs, but sometimes I left it lacked a dynamic range in places.

Started strongly but tailed off. Loved the energy of the first track

Great little dance tracks set against, bitter sweet dystopian lyrics. Loved this, had not listened before but have had it on repeat since. Banger

Familiar sounds even though I don't often choose to listen to lcd soundsystem - perhaps I should?

I keep forgetting I kind of like LCD Soundsystem. I think I prefer each song individually though, rather than a whole album at once!

I do like LCD Soundsystem, but on the day we had it, I wasn't in the mood - I was probably hungover - so didn't rate it. Listening again today, it's super repetitive, but still digging the jam.

Pretty dope! Funky and dancy with some weirder indie cuts. Pretty fun listen! 7/10

Each time I listen to this album, I turn it on thinking I'll just play it in the background. And each time I listen to this album, I find myself progressing from unconciously tapping me feet to cranking it up and signing along. I just love how nearly every song grows and builds. "All My Friends" and "New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down" both exemplify what I'm talking about. Overall, this is one of my favorite albums and it's already on my list of heavy rotation, so it's easy for me to give this 4 stars.

I like their blend of electro and rock, but LCD Soundsystem are one of those bands for which I've never really understood the critical acclaim. The album's fun, the lyrics transgressive, but I'm not sure the sound is particularly unique or pioneering

This is like a not very good amalgamation of much of the 'alternative' music that was popular in the mid-late 2000s. Bloc Party + The Strokes + The Killers + Hot Chip - any original and interesting elements = this. When dance-rock is done well it can be epic (e.g. EXRMNTR), but this is, like a lot of the similar 2006-2009ish output, just sounds dated and generic now. 1.5/5.

i actually thought it was a very fun album to listen to. i feel like if there was one really good song i would give a 4, but it isn’t quite there. 7/10, it was groovy and i like his unique voice

"All My Friends" sounds like the Mr Rogers trolley music. This is such a weird album. It's a fun listen, even if at the same time I don't "get" the huge hype for the band...not really sure why this in particular is a top-1001? I do *almost* love it even if not my favourite type of music, but it definitely has its purpose - just that many of the songs a little too repetitive for me. Maybe that's the damn point of dance music? Eh - again - I had fun listening to it. I wouldn't call anything here musical genius or revolutionary but there is a surprising amount of diversity in the (again, repetitive) dance up-tempo rock, and the final song ("New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down") was a bit of a surprise. They sure like their cowbells, too. I'm feeling generous today - 4 stars. 7/10 4 stars

De lo mas interesante que he escuchado de la decada 2000-2010, cada canción con un sonido particular sin llegar a ser monotono. Nada fan de las canciones de 7 minutos.
