Reviews (page 13 of 13)

I have no desire to listen to neil young solo records. I will listen to him with nscy but not by him self. He attacked only creator on spotify who talking about alternatives to the COVID vaccines but not insensuated them.So then he and bunch of other creators threw there songs off. and took him out of spotify so now i don't way to listen. Now if thinking why I reviewed the big black album even when he took it off. I think honestly that Mr. Steve Albani was getting frustrated with spotify not paying there creators or musicians as you call them fair livable wages and I think that very admiral. So to make long short I will not listen to Neil Young solo shit.

Neil Young is a hack and his songs are boring as hell. This album is no exception. The fake western twang and lazy slide guitar riffs stink of nostalgia for a past that never existed. The only reason this isn't a 1-star album is the musical performances, when divorced from Young's lyrical bullshit, are pretty solid. Tim Drummond in particular does work with his bass lines and that deserves recognition.

Always found Neil Young kind of boring.

Unlistenable

The slow, somber timbre of the album now makes sense when you learn that Neil Young had a broken back and recorded this at his farm, where he literally couldn't play any other instrument other than an acoustic guitar. Whilst it does provide some grandeur and atmosphere, The London Symphony Orchestra is able to lift the album in parts a little, however sadly, it doesn't provide much in the way of lifting the album up entirely. Best: Heart of Gold Worst: A Man Needs A Maid Note: Most of this album is not available on Spotify so had to find a YouTube stream of it (thankfully not too difficult).

Bit of a snooze fest, wasn't really in the mood for this.

As Neil Young removed his music from Spotify, due to Joe Rogan(whoever the fuck that is) there were only 2 songs available to listen to. Im not upset about this.

Listened to the first couple of tracks. Feel absolutely no desire to listen to any more.

2,5; overrated, the best song is Heart of Gold undoubtedly

It’s been a while since I listened to this but from what I remember I wouldn’t mind just having it on in the background if I’m doing something mindless. Some heavy topics, like many other albums we’ll come across.

92. Harvest - Neil Young 10 tracks. I've heard of Neil Young (& obviously Crosby, Stills & Nash), but didn't realise they were together at 1 point. I can't stand his voice. It's really droney. Not an enjoyable listen at all, but then again I'm not overly keen on Country. 2/5

Neil Young's fourth album was the best selling album of 1972. It is a folk rock album that was immediately popular with fans - but not critics - at release, supported by the hit singles "Old Man" & "Heart of Gold". Some songs were good while others were not as good, but the good songs outweigh the bad. Not my type of music, but I can appreciate the production.

Nice, slow speed.

Not for me

Carino. Ma canzoni molto simili

Ik vind de stem van deze zanger wat bibberig / niet stabiel. Toch staan er op dit album wel een paar leuke liedjes (naast alle saaie nummers), zoals "Heart of Gold" en "Are You Ready for the Country?" **

Some really nice tracks with soul and feeling, with a smattering of tracks that felt a bit like a over indulgent children's pantomime. Definitely hasn't made me feel like I would lose out for not ever hearing it.

the middle of the album fell of hard for me, need to give it another listen

Like every album with slow, sad songs.

This LP sounds unsure of what it wants to be - it starts off with some gratingly repetitive country tracks, tries to go in for big bombastic numbers that Young's voice can't support, and then manages to nail a few standard rock tracks. A very uneven listen and album overall

Overrated. Best song is heart of gold. Didn’t really care for the rest of the album.

Not my gig but not bad

Mäßiger country/rock 2,5

Old man and heart of gold is it. Tried Neil Young for years. Sad carpenter. Less words more harmonica

Not all bad.

Lento, con toques melancólicos. No fue del todo mi agrado. Nota: 2.5

#bringbackcrazyhorse because honestly this and the other Neil Young related album (Buffalo Springfield) were less than engaging. I can see maybe why Heart of Gold got so big, but it was something about the songs on "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" that pulled me in much more than this album. He just sounds a little bored

Boring

"Heart of Gold" Released: January 1972 "Old Man" Released: April 17, 1972

Old Man is the best song and there's more rock in the album than I was expecting. 4/10.

Folk just really isn't my vibe. Extra star due to hits that I could sing along to.

☠️

Really not my style. Some lyrics honestly felt like it was just him ranting with a friend on the phone. It's as if he's focusing on rhyming first, and the idea behind as an afterthought. The melodies were also pretty safe and uninspired (but good harmonica). "Are you ready for the country" and "The Needle and the damage done" were the better ones.

Still not a Neil Young fan.

Loved the guitar, but the album itself was definitely too slow for me.

Okay for background music, but not interesting enough to really listen intently to imo. Plus none of the lyrics really speak to me and some are a bit iffy. And his voice (and maybe pronunciation) does not sound great to me. The instrumental parts were better than with vocals.

Connor: soft rock with country influences, a little forgettable

I’m doing my part to fight the inexplicable boomer love for Neil young by giving this a 1. Not because it’s the worst thing I’ve ever heard, but because it’s boring, whiny, and baffling to me why Neil young had a career beyond CSNY. He was all of 27 when this album came out and spends the majority of it talking about being old and decrepit, needs someone to take care of poor pitiful him. Typical boomer mentality, fuck this music

Annoying man from this album alone. Do not see myself revisiting this ever.

Well, it is Harvest so it gets about a 4, but it is Neil Young and a southern man don't need him around so he gets a -10, for one star (since that is the minimum).

Somebody give me context of "A Man Needs a Maid": it's way too powerful for the theme, I think.

Puke emoji

No thanks. I know some people love him, but not really for me.

Fuck this too

Lo country no es lo mío, si le gusta este género musical a alguien, este sería el album perfecto

not for me

Actively disliked, don't think I even managed to finish it

This was badly produced and poor guy can not sing. Not for me at all.

Not my cup of tea

Скукота пиздец

i can't believe this is how i find out neil young sucks

Idk man neil young is just annoying. I really don't like his voice. It's not even crooning it's just grating tbh. Like shut up. I don't wanna hear you. Like I really do not gaf. This is not for me. Why does he say his vowels like that. It's annoying af. I don't like this. Why does this sound so evil. Disney villain sounding ahh. I like Alabama you can't really hear his voice. Favourite: Alabama Least favourite: There's a World

No thank you

If this is Neil Young's best and most popular album, I am not a Neil Young fan. It's American rock at its best but he just does not have a voice for music. It's unfortunately one of the weaker albums so far. 2/10

Not my jam

favs: old man words (between the lines of age) rating 1/5

Absolute dog shit, boring doesn’t come into it. It’s time for a new genre of music and I shall call it american drivel rock.

Dreary

41. not for me

heard about neil young somewhere i don’t remember where or by who. reviews of this album is so mixed lmfao. a man needs a maid …??? oh hell nah bruh. was going to give this a 3 cause i guess i get it and there are like 2 songs that are bearable but im giving that a one star like what was that….. crazy take but sometimes i couldn’t care less about a white man’s album likeeee. okay sorry no but i dropped that too.

Boring asf

Oldis but goldies, es isr hörbar aber nicht kaufbar

Not my cup of tea

Unlistenable! Learn more impressive arrangements and to record with better guitar tones!

Another incredibly lifeless Neil Young album. What do people see in this? The music has no heart and is completely predictable, relying on a single motif that just repeats endlessly without any development whatsoever. Furthermore, it commits the twin sins of harmonica and steel guitar (in places). His voice is mediocre at best, and his lyrics range from whining to moronic. This album is uninspired, unchallenging, humdrum slop. 0.5/5.0: Unlistenable

Boring

Only listened to 4 songs, wasn’t able for more, just didn’t like them

Not my type of style of music, couldn’t get through whole album. Just felt bored. Maybe I’ll revisit another time. No rating for now.

this is so country but not indie or soul it hurts

Don't get the hype for this guy.

Fuuuuuck Neil Young records. I get why this record would be on this list (as opposed to some of his more obscure records...sincerely, why are there like 13 of these pieces of shit on this project?), but I'll never enjoy even the landmark Neil Young records. 1/5

Whiny voice and all the songs sound the same.

do i sense a twinge of sexism? 🙃

I didn't like a single song

Not for me

No es mi rollo

.5. 0 if I could.

To many Neil Young albums coming up on list. I despise his voice and his attitude. Did not listen

I find Neil Young to be whiney and annoying. This just isn't for me.

Whiny simple vocals, childish song structure and all tracks sound the same. Standard MAGA country Americana nonsense.

Spotify didn’t have it but it did have the muppet show theme. 10/10

Boring

boring

Fist song is called Out On The Weekend, and 5 seconds in I already have questions. Are you dying on the weekend? Totally “can’t relay to joy” of listening to this.

It was okay. I didn't care about this album; I thought it was severely meh. I don't like his voice. Sorry if you are angry by this. Womp, womp.

Listened four times and I could not make any of the songs out instead of the thing with the last album were it blended really nice together and was flowing but still individual songs this just sounded like 34 minutes of the same song and i didn’t enjoy it

“my life is changing in so many ways, i don’t know who to trust anymore” so true man… “I was thinkin’ that maybe I’d get a maid Find a place nearby for her to stay Just someone to keep my house clean Fix my meals and go away” oh. 🤨 well anyways, i don’t wanna generalize this album because of one questionable song, but as a whole it’s just so corny. i’d like to listen to more country, but yeah, this is definitely not for me.

Maybe it would hit different if I paid closer attention to the lyrics, but I’ve never been a huge fan of Neil Young’s entire thing. His voice is annoying, and the entire “a guitar and a harmonica” folk vibe is too much for an entire album. Where are the bangers?! Where is the passion?! Why can’t he have dynamism in his voice?! My parents will be so disappointed in this rating but IDC bc I’m just bored.

Day 76 - Dec 9th, 2024 I fucking hate Neil Young. 1/5

I really don't like country

I hate Neil Young. I won't rule out that I may come to enjoy his work later in life, but for now, this shit suuuuucks.

This is so whatever honestly. And Alabama has got to be the worst song I have ever had to listen to.

This is only here because of the old man song

Although an highly acclaimed album, not for me. I find the vocals grating and overall the album's content is depressing and dull. I obviously don't get it but I can live in the knowledge of that.

God I hate this record

I know it’s back on Spotify, but the damage has been done. Did not listen.

You tried, dawg.

Nope. Can't do it. I tried. I scrubbed thru the songs, thinking maybe my tolerance has expanded since my old college dormmate played this album incessantly 30 years ago, but no. Still cannot stand his whiny, nasal, wobbly falsetto. Neil Young has got to be one of the most overrated musicians with SO many people gushing over his songwriting & whatever else (re-branding FLAC as his own hi-res lossless format? wtf), but good lord this whole album is just the most bland country-folk crap I've ever heard. Ooooh a song about heroin, soo edgy. "Old Man, take a look at my life" ummm shouldn't it be the other way around? Shouldn't the old man be giving YOU advice, you pretentious little 26yo twat? Hard pass.

I just don't get Neil Young. Not enough energy for me.

Nope. I’ve tried you, Neil Young! I always suspected I wasn’t a fan and now I’m sure. Please let this THIRD Neil Young album in two months be my last.

I've never listened to Neil Young before. I have now realised that was no true loss to me. Painfully dull.

Not on Spotify. 1/5

don't care for

Just bad.

Neil Young pulled everything from Spotify. Can't listen

Sounded like one, long monotonous song that made me question the point of existing. Well, perhaps it wasn't quite that bad, but I do fail to see the attraction and why so many people rave about Neil Young. Maybe that says more about me than anything else.

I hate Neil Young’s voice.

Well Neil Young made it pretty clear that he didn't want be on Spotify, so it's a real bummer that I couldn't hear this. I hope the sarcasm is coming through there a bit. I'm not fond of his music.

Can't rate, as not available on Spotify.

Unavailable to listen to

I hate Neil Young and his little whiney voice. That is all

Could not listen to due Neil Young pulling his back catalogue off Spotify. Didn’t have to time to faff around looking for an alternative source.

Couldn't listen bc not on Spotify rn

The heck with Neil Young. Would have to be in a bad headspace to choose this

Sounds like the precursor to every generic modern country and easy listening artist ever. Thanks Neil, thank you for ruining music. 🖕

Never been a fan of Neil Young. Didn't care for this.

Yawn. I may have outgrown Neil Young.

No Neil Young for me thanks

ilk iki şarkı ve sonuncu fena değildi ama diğerleri..................

No me gusto 💔

Heart of Gold

Not my thing.

- america - just guitar and voice makes it boring for me - meh

Not a fan of Neil young and this didn’t change it.

This fucker wants his music off Spotify and now I have to jump through hoops to try and find his old ass album? No thanks. Just like people who complain about piracy, if you make it difficult for people to find your content, they either won't or they will pirate. I can't even be bothered to pirate this guy. I don't pay for all these music services so you get a 1-star for being a tool.

I hate country

One of my all time faves
