Reviews (page 10 of 15)
I can give this album its flowers while also admitting that I am not (and may may never be) a Nirvana guy.
yuppppp
Have always avoided Nirvana as all the cool kids seemed fans. This was a pleasant suprise
Better than I thought it would be. There’s a lot of smug nihilism here (which I don’t like) but the release of rage is cathartic and the lyrics are generally very good. A 4.
Good album j didn’t get a chance to listen to it all but I expected it to be good bc I know a lot of the songs
I was obsessed with this album when it first came out but I don’t really listen to it anymore.
some songs are iconic
Many hits on it, their exceptional piece of art that endures the passing of time and is very relevant even today ✨
I love Nirvana. The 90s grunge is one of the best sounds.
After last time surprising myself by giving ln Utero a 4/5, following Unplugged's 3/5, let's see how Nevermind fairs. Smells Like Teen Spirit being one of the most influential songs in history is an undeniable fact but it still seems surprising to me. It's also hard to judge it solely as a song, separated from its history. Its too big. In Bloom and Come As You Are better than Teen Spirit but I can't tell if its just than I've heard them (a teeny tiny bit) less. I do love the bassline in the latter, so that certainly contributes. The final single, Lithium plays with the quiet-loud dynamic better than many similar tracks, and again, I like the bass. They picked great singles. Of the album tracks I like Breed, Territorial Pissing and Stay Away as they're pretty punky and so my kinda thing (the drums on the latter are great). Polly and Lounge Act not so much. I just don't like Kurt's voice enough to balance out not liking the instrumentation. Its a weird experience listening to Nirvana for me. Their music is something I should be obsessed by: I like punk and a lot of heavier music, and I was not far off becoming a teenager when these albums were released, so prime "life altering music" period. I can also objectively see why they became so big, and why they're so influential, but they don't grab me in the way I'd expect. I never think "I'll put on some Nirvana" when I want to listen to music. I think I enjoy Nevermind more than Unplugged but less than In Utero, which makes it like a 3.5, but it's no way a 3 so: 4/5
I enjoyed listening to this album very much. It has all the energy that I love to hear when I listen to music so it’s right up my alley. I didn’t really like the last song tho, it sounded kind of annoying and I just wanted it to end so bad but it kept on going, had to dock a point for that. Very fun very iconic album and songs.
WELL WHATEVER NEVERMIND
Every time I listen to this it gets better. I don’t listen to it much at all, so I’m not being dramatic.
It’s been a while since I’ve listened to this album straight through, but I’ve heard the songs so many times. I’m not the biggest Kurt fan, but it’s hard to deny this album. Really good.
Nirvana were a constant presence in my Childhood, almost ubiquitous. And as familiarity breeds contempt, I was always rather ambivalent towards them. Listening to this now though, I have to admit, it's pretty good. You also have to give the album credit for the impact it had on the music and culture of its time. Yeah, they weren't doing anything that others hadn't done before, but they did it so well and managed to take it into the mainstream, for good or ill. Minus 1 star because I absolutely can complain while on a plane. I have done and will continue to do so.
Honestly, has never hit the same since Kurt died. Still great, but unpleasant to listen to now because I'm old and dead inside.
4.7
yruhg
never was a huge fan of nirvana, they jist never stood out to me, but its a good album
Ich mag den rostigen Nachfolger noch ein gutes Stück mehr, aber das ist natürlich ein sehr starkes Ding und zurecht ein Klassiker.
Album so good almost all the songs are used in other pieces of media 😭 I don't listen to this album frequently enough to have it as one of my top favorites so I gave it a four out of five.
He rhymed “plain” with “complain”. Very repetitive but made the moments it wasn’t shine. Man can scream like a banshee
really solid. i think some tracks were a little forgettable but the memorable ones really make up for it
On the one hand, there are some great songs on here, its impact on music was enormous and it’s regarded as a classic for a reason. On the other hand, some of those songs have been overplayed for decades, a couple of the deep cuts are easily forgettable filler, and the mythic status of Kurt Cobain has far overshadowed the actual music, to the point that it’s hard to rate the album purely on its own merit. Given some of the low points in the music, I’d rate it 3 1/5 stars, rounding up.
Nirvana is such a classic. I think the most impressive part about them is how they can oscillate so easily between softer into really hard hitting. I think where I struggle with it personally is sometimes it can be a bit to intense, or a bit to soft. The vocals just arent necessairly my style, but I can really see how this changed culture through creative and artistic merit. History key points: introduced punk movement rom Michael Jackson at the time. Smells Like Teen Spirit is such a strong opener, can really appreciate the artistic merit of rock instrumentals, I think i stuggle with the heaviness of the chorus. In Bloom — i like it, not super my style but i really enjoyed the start. Come as You Are is so amazing it makes me feel sick. That intro. Perfection. Moody, ambient tone 100% my style. Breed — great build up, really exciting (grungy distorted guitar chords). I’m not sure I love it personally though, but can hear the artistic mertit for sure. Lithium — unsure how i feel. Polly — to slow for me i think. Terriotiral Pissings — to intense for me. Drain You — not my fav Lounge Act — not my fav Stay Away — like the verse rolling vibe On a Plain — not my fav. Somethign in the Way — sot but i like it because it has a dark and mysterious tone to it. Quite captivating. I would study to this song.
3/3. I feel like it’s a given that this is necessary listening, but I still found myself surprised at how great some of these songs are. The three opening tracks especially, and Polly has some of the most chilling lyrics I’ve ever heard. Just wish Kurt sang a bit more clearly.
coooome as you areee 9/13 already had, fire ass album
i already had loads in playlist
It did the thing and now we all have the thing to reference
The best Nirvana album. I come back to it once in a while but it doesn’t hold up like it used to
This album is obviously fantastic. The first 5 tracks are just so good, and I was pleasantly surprised by the back half of the album which I was previously unfamiliar with. I don't feel I can give it a full 5* but it's incredibly close. Favourites: Smells Like Teen Spirit In Bloom Come As You Are Endless, Nameless
8/10
Not the best Nirvana album, but surely a well deserved commercial hit, and a good grunge album anyway.
Favoriete nummers zijn oa Polly, tereitorial pissings en something in the way.
Pretty cool. I feel like with how famous this album its a shock that I've only listened to like 3 songs from this album when its right up my alley. Breed and Endless, Nameless or wtv its called were my standouts, and I mean, Smells Like Teen Spirit is that popular for a reason. 7.9/10
Absolute classic. Already on steady rotation with more than half the songs on saved playlists. The second half is weaker than the first but On a Plain and Something in the Way make for good capstones. Endless, Nameless is about the only track I would actively skip.
Likes: attitude; sonic production, drumming; poppy song structures alongside aggressive stylistic expression Dislikes: Some songs (Teen Spirit, On A Plain) lean a little too bubblegum at the expense of having coherent lyrics - a Beatle-esque prioritization of melodic phrasing over lyrics Overall, this is an example of one of my totem albums not quite holding up for me now. I still love it, and what it did for me. But it’s not something I come back to often, and when I do, it’s songs like Lithium and Drain You.
Too big
My favourite Nirvana album. RIP Kurt Cobain. I think this album had the better hits from this band like, “smells like teen spirit”, “come as you are”. My favourite song of this album was, ’lithium’. There was also ‘in bloom’. Yeah can’t go wrong with any song really. The 90’s had so many good genres, and grunge rock is definitely up there at the top for me. It still blows my mind that Dave Grohl was a drummer before the foo fighters. Unfortunately, it took the tragedy of Kurt’s suicide for the Foo Fighters to exist.
Great album from a incredibly talented man. CC knew pain and could see it. It comes off strongly in his music. I personally don't care for his voice. But I give credit where credit is due. Rip
Wow I'm glad I came around to revisit this. So many good songs, and so infinitely creative within the grunge genre. I'd argue that nirvana incorporates more punk themes than a lot of other grunge acts. I never really appreciated Dave Grohls drumming on this album until this listen. Nice. Also RIP Kurt
really like this album overall a classic
listened to again groundbreaking, man
Great record obviously. It's so difficult to listen with fresh ears. I did find that some of the guitar tones felt very dated in a way that I never heard before. Altogether I just don't enjoy it as much as in utero these days. It's really hard for me to tell if that's over exposure or what
ist halt nirvana
mostly good songs, although the end is questionable
Before: Oh, it's Nirvana. I did like them but my favorite album from them, Bleach, is not even on this list. If I had a 1001 list, I would put Bleach on there for sure, but that's it. I listened to Nevermind countless times already, back in the day. It's probably in vinyl in my collection in the basement. I also listened more recently as research for my favorites by year list. Of course this is a good album. I'll probably give it a 4. During: Smells Like Teen Spirit: It's fine and hints at a certain energy but guess it's too polished for my tastes. I'm bored with it half way through. In Bloom also hints at greatness but it's like there is a filter on. Come As You Are is OK, but seems muted as well. Checking my favorites of 1001 list, I have the first 3 tracks on there but that is all. I probably got bored with listening to it at that point and put them on there just because it's Nirvana. Breed, I like. It's my favorite so far. I decide to swap it out with Come as you are on my 1991 list. The next 2 tracks are kind of boring. Territorial Pissings is pretty good. After : I guess I'll give it a 4, but just barely.
I connect with this album but I don't connect connect like some people do, and I'm almost envious about it. I think part of it is the "you had to be there"-ness of it all, and I was a shade too young. But some monster tracks on here that I would give my right pinky to hear for the first time. Or maybe the pinky finger-nail. If there was anesthesia involved. But still. Good-to great record.
4.5 stars. It’s impossible to separate this album from its cultural impact...few bands have ever had a rocket-ship ascent like Nirvana did in the early ’90s, and Nevermind helped shift the entire trajectory of mainstream rock. That said, I’ve always respected this band more than I’ve emotionally connected with them. Going track by track, though, it’s hard to deny the songwriting: “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” “In Bloom,” “Come As You Are,” “Lithium,” and “Drain You” are all incredibly strong, and even the quieter moments like “Something in the Way” hold up beautifully. The loud/quiet dynamics and Butch Vig’s production are more intentional than I probably gave them credit for on first listen. I may not feel the same emotional pull here that I do with some other bands, but musically this album earns its legendary status. Favorite tracks: Something in the Way, Drain You, Breed, Lithium
Not heard a few of these tracks for 20 years. Some really strong tracks at the start. A few tracks seem a bit whiney now, but still doesn't detract from a great album, just short of the 5 stars for me.
Such a classic. Such intensity, with melodies and harmonies that give away the musicality of the group. Coherent musical ideas make for great music.
really enjoyed this, lots of songs I already knew and liked but a few new ones that I like even more.
9/10 amazing rock album
A sonic palette and great vocals. A landmark album.
Fantastic inflection point in the story of rock music. There is more than one song that I skip on this album that keep it from 5 stars. Pitchfork: 10.0 Rolling Stone: Top 500 Albums #6 Best Songs Smells Like Teen Spirit In Bloom Come As You Are Lithium Stay Away Something In The Way
As good as it is iconic. One of the most popular albums of all time and the 4th album by ranking in this list. 9/10 [KEEP]
59/1089 It's great but without growing up on it, I don't have any nostalgia for it. There's no way I can see it holding up it as ranked #4 total (behind rumours, abbey road, and dark side of the moon). There's like 4 standout songs and a bunch of pretty good grunge. Sorry, not getting the hype.
Obviously a gamechanger. It's been said how this album and grunge spelled the end of hair metal, and while this is sort of true, What it truly spelled the end of was the 80's. The raw sound of three musicians and their instruments took over as the slick synthetic 80's sound went out of vogue. (for the most part. Some of that stuff stuck around for a bit, some of it evolved, but let's stick with the story) Apart from the "important cultural moment" of this album is the fact that is just a damn good rock album. At this point in my life I could never hear the hits from here again and be fine. But the 1, 2, 3 punch of "Teen Spirit" "In Bloom" and "Come as You Are" is honestly quite an amazing way to open this album up. Of those three and other hit "Lithium" I've always preferred "Come As You Are" (Ironically cribbed from Killing Joke's 'Eighties'" Nowadays I like the deep cuts. Though when talking an album of this stripe it's hard to think any of the songs are buried "deep"
Now I'm not one of those "oooh Bleach is the best Nirvana album" contrarians, however I will say "oooh isn't In Utero a slightly better album than Nevermind actually?!" For me this isn't even in the top five for 1991, although that's a little unfair. If you're asking, which you're not: My Bloody Valentine - Loveless Massive Attack- Blue Lines Talk Talk - Laughing Stock Pearl Jam - Ten REM - Out of Time
A classic with very strong standouts but otherwisee its okay
це хороший альбом ахаха
Despite being a Washingtonian, I hated Nirvana growing up but over the years they grew on me. It helps that I’ve seen some rad live covers from unexpected artists. Talented young men (not u dave ghoul, fuck u) and I always wonder what Kurt would be up to right now if he was still alive.
Great classic grunge music, never was quite my vibe but you can’t deny the influence it created!
Great music and truly genre defining grunge, but the star of the Nirvana show will always be Dave Grohl.
Honestly it's tough to rate this as it's the first one I'm listening to but I'd say between 3,5 and 4. The first three or four tracks to start with are amazing but they really have a distinctive sound that carries over between them, while the other songs are more of a hit or miss.
Very impressive album. First half is insane, it seems like a greatest hits album.
8/10 ily Dave Grohl
it was as raw as i recalled from just a few songs i had listened to in the past. the structure of this record is truly impressive, the way in which the band was able to convey raw and often underrepresented emotions was groundbreaking and perhaps history-making in my opinion. while a part of the songs were not really aligned with what i normally like musically, what hit me the most were these sharp, dark and often self-reflecting lyrics that fit perfectly with the music and sound production. also "nevermind" happens to be an album listened by my mom a lot when she was a teen, so it was interesting to try to look at it through her lenses, as if i myself was a teen in the 90s
1/27/26: again I didn't realize how many bangers were in this album. First half is amazing then falls off a little bit in the second half. 8/10
This album was super formative for me growing up, knew most of the songs on guitar and loved how big and gnarly it sounded. A lot of these songs have been overplayed for me but I can't deny it's influence on myself and culturally. Giving it a 4 because I prefer In Utero
If you’re only going to own one Nirvana album, this should be the one you own. The opening song is absolutely legendary.
8/10
something in my asss, mmmm hmmmmmmm
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeaaaaaaaaaaaaahh
Great album. My siblings and I used to perform Drain You on Rock Band as kids which, listening back to it, is completely insane. Favorites: Something in the Way, Come as You Are. Least Favorite: Endless, Nameless
The rallying call of Gen X. It’s also over-rated, about 20 minutes too long and loses its way towards the end.
This record has a really great 5-track run at the beginning. It tapers off a bit in the latter half of the record, but this album is great nonetheless. Favourite Track(s): Smells Like Teen Spirit, Something In The Way Least Favourite Track(s): Drain You
All killer no filler
top 3 was in bloom drain you and come as you are
Hits after hits. I have no idea what he is saying but I feel it.
Love it. Few songs that i skipped but i enjoyed the most
All time classic with all songs relevant to my teens and early twenties. Great album suggestion to start of the process.
Although its not necessarily my type of music, its undoubtetly such a great album. I like that the album starts off with Smells Like Teen Spirit, its such a great introduction to the album, as most albums start off quieter to introduce but this one sets the tone for the rest of the listening experience. Kurt Cobain is so so great :)
Nevermind? More like… I don’t mind… listening to this. Amirite, you guys?
Classic. Wasn't my thing but I understand why it's beloved and I can enjoy it. 7.4/10
something's in my ass mmmmmm
So many bangers
I liked the vocal performance and guitar, and Smells Like Teen Spirit was probably my favorite song from the album. I didn't love how hard it was to understand the words at some parts.
The equal best Radiohead album along with OK Computer
Great album. Could listen to it on repeat for awhile... If it wasn't for the final song. That one would always be skipped. Otherwise great energy
I can't believe ive never listened to this front to back. Great flow, love this.
Classic
It was the first CD I ever bought. It has great energy, riffs and melodies. The main reason it is not a 5 is that it does really tail off in the second half and that its impact has been lessened by ubiquity.
Was expecting this to have aged poorly but, for the most part this does still hold up well despite its ubiquity. There’s a bit of a lull in the middle of it but I think it is bookended well as an album. It’s honestly been a long time since I listened to it, but I appreciated the songwriting here more than I expected - when listening to it as a teen it was more for the raucous energy and angst whereas listening back, it’s the slower ones that stand out as better tracks for me - ‘on a plain’ and ‘something in the way’ in particular. It might just be because I think I listened to the unplugged in New York album much more than this one and so have more fondness towards them as a result.
Classic
Nirvana não é minha banda de rock favorita, mas acho "4" uma nota justa.
one of the most influencial album of the 90s
Would have been 5 but I disliked the final track which was a hidden track on the second release of the original CD
Long time since I last listened to this. I always thought it was good but overrated. I would now say it is very good but overrated
Didn't really pay much attention to it though
great album classic already listened to it a few years ago but there is better
It’s an absolute classic, but I still don’t think it’s as perfect as most seem to
Era defining album. A absolute juggernaut. The singles are astonishingly good. The rest is fine. I’m in the minority that thinks In Utero is better.
Better than Coldplay
I can see why this is considered a classic ! Definitely deeper than I thought and I loved the drums and whole mood really
Smells Like Teen Spirit-9/10 In Bloom-10/10 Come As You Are-8/10 Breed-10/10 Lithium-10/10 Polly-7/10 Territorial Pissing-7/10 Drain You-7/10 Lounge Act-7/10 Stay Away-8/10 On A Plain-8/10 Something In The Way-10/10 Endless Nameless-6/10 Overall-8/10
Talk about a crash to the establishment... brought back rock to an overproduced pop world.
3.5 we liked!
Bangers, didn't listen to the whole album for awhile. Should listen to more songs on this album
A CLASSIC at least in my world. Remember playing this album front to back in like middle school since its such a well known one. Some of the songs were a bit too...loud for me but still.
Some songs are great, some songs aren't even good.
8/10 Favorite is Lithium Have listened before No skip album
A great album that did wonders for popularizing alt rock. There’s a reason it’s popular and a reason Nirvana’s influence continues to dominate pop culture. Grunge has never really been my cup of tea so there is a skip or two for me, but overall the album stands the test of time and will continue to stand the test of time.
Great album, surprising towards the end, some tracks I'd never heard but loved
Absolutely entertaining, I can’t believe it took me so long to navigate this album properly. The amount of hits just at the beginning of this album is crazy. I don’t listen to rock very often but I definitely should!!
La verdad que nada que decir, totalmente comprensible que este en esta lista. No me gustan todas, pero si gran parte. Al limite de cogerle tirria como a queen, pero todavia disfruto de las depresivas.
не ну это классическая имба
Pretty good, it's like loud rock instead of quiet which is different
Amazing high pitched crystal world of pick clicks, and fret scrapes endless nameless guitar solo is awesome If only some of the interesting soundy intros were extended then maybe some of Nirvana's notoriously annoying fanbase would be siphoned off.
4.0
For the sophisticated grunge socialite - sure, its everything that rocks on the radio, but damn, Im sure as hell glad it exists. Bangers: In Bloom, Lithium, Lounge act. 4.5 stars
so and so
Didn’t listen to all the songs but listening to a couple of songs at the gym hit different
The most popular and well-known grunge album? It’s actually better than I expected and I didn’t realise that I knew or recognised most of these songs. I’m not a big fan of Nirvana but I can see why this album is so revered. It’s so big, nasty, angry and heavy. The guitars sound huge and Cobain’s anthemic grungey angst rings out over it all.
I always thought Nirvana was a bit too meat and potatoes for my taste but upon listening again there's a lot to like. The singles are great but the deep cuts are fun. How did this sell more than 10 million copies? Kurt was obviously on to something, too bad he got ahead of himself...
Okay.
I feel like I’ve heard Nirvana too many times and I don’t enjoy it anymore. But listening to this album, it has a bunch of good songs and it had a huge influence on music. A begrudging 4 that maybe should be 5.
Perfect album. The last track was the only weak song.
8/10 Best: Come as you are Worst: Endless, Nameless This is an incredibly cohesive album with the tracks flowing into each other perfectly without sounding too repetitive. The first half of the album is better than the second (in my opinion), with the opening 5 tracks being enough to cements the album’s reputation alone. The ability to switch from the more quiet tracks to the loud, explosive songs like Territorial Pissings while still maintaining this cohesion is impressive. Every aspect of this album is crafted with so much emotion, Cobains writing & guitar, Grohl on the drums you can feel the passion on each track. Cobains vocals are raw and layer on the heavy arrangements perfectly. I cannot relate to many of the critiques as the vast majority of them had the privilege of listening to Nevermind on its release and getting to see the cultural significance of it but it’s hard to deny the emotion and energy just listening to it makes you feel. Great Album.
If every track was Endless, Nameless this would get 5/5 from me.
The record that laid the death blow to glam rock! Had heard of Smells Like Teen Spirit but never the full album. I'm really surprised how this blew up in the early 90s, when everything popular was either dad rock or mom pop. It was quite edgy for me (ok Polly) but also unserious and playful. That's what I really liked about this record: the sense that it was just three dudes having fun and enjoying the process.
Very loud, but every song way 10/10
Loud. But every song slapped. Very loud.
Yeah it’s pretty good isn’t it. 4 stars
i’m so happy cuz today i found my. friends, they’re in my head.
I just don’t think I will ever be a Nirvana guy. I do think this album is incredible and definitely deserves the hype but idk maybe it’s cuz my dad dislikes Nirvana but it’s just like not totally my thing. I do love love some of these songs I will say like lounge act and in bloom.
‘territorial pissings’ es skippeable
An all time classic for a reason. I think it's a specific mood listen for me, and the lower production quality paired with simple riffs I think cap it's potential at times. Overall though, it's punk, raw, emotional, and memorable. I was surprised by how many songs I knew.
Amazing album, already listened before but I love the sound on this sounds unmastered but in the best grungy way possible.
Holds up
This album surprised me, I knew more of it than I thought I did. The songs I hadn’t heard really pleasantly surprised me. There were a few I didn’t love but overall a really good album.
Nothing original remains to be said about this album.
Spoko ale już znałam i nie porywa mnie
This was a pivotal album for me in my musical journey. Love.
Not an album I reach for often but it’s rightly considered a classic.
Genre: Grunge Pretty outstanding record, to be quite honest. It's one going into that you certainly expect it to be good, and then it just continuously beats your ass. The first five tracks are some of the most important in the entire canon of "Grunge", and we haven't even heard Drain You yet. The 3 guys make a big racket on this things, and it's headbangin', catchy, and just totally in your face all at the same time. A real triumph from the decade, and a hallmark of the genre. A really fascinating listen front-to-back. 4/5
Lot of hits on this one. Great rock although may e ‘Territorial Pissings’ and ‘Endless, Nameless’ were a little heavy on the screaming, for me.
My 3rd favourite Nirvana. Wouldn't put it on now but I was once a teen. Can't deny it's influence - both positive and negative.
Since I was a high school junior when this album (and, of course, the single "Smells Like Teen Spirit") rattled youth culture like an earthquake, it's hard for me to offer an objective appraisal of the music 30 years later. Songs like the aforementioned anarchy cheerleader tune-- plus "Lithium", "Come as You Are", etc.-- have become as overplayed in our collective mind as "Sweet Caroline", but you can't penalize a band for ubiquity, and deep tracks like "Lounge Act" and "On a Plain" sound as fresh as ever. Great raging punk-grunge-pop, and (I guess) as good a 90's album as you can ask for to merit a bunch of Gen Alphas to (inexplicably!) buy the t-shirts at Hot Topic and turn Kurt into a Gen X icon.
Once upon a time it would have been perfect but I see some cracks now but only just
8/10
Очень сильный, эмоциональный альбом. Кричащий, посылающий всех нахуй. Но после его прослушивания захотелось кого-нибудь убить. Такого мне точно не надо.
Absolutely brilliant, so close to a 5
Welp that definitely was Nevermind, hasn’t changed from my last listen, when Something in the Way wasn’t quite yet the Batman song. The teen me who thought In Utero was the greatest album ever made could never have predicted I would eventually be more creatively inspired by the producer’s band than Nirvana lol. Teen me also would have been gobstruck learning that I would eventually think Drain You was the best song on here(I would have said On a Plain then). Like that song’s riff has such an enveloping yet bouncy atmosphere to me and that bridge is an awesome left-turn from the rest of song. Also gotta highlight the dour trudge of Endless, Nameless, one of the best hidden tracks ever. Smells Like Teen Spirit is an overplayed song that I still get hyped for whenever I hear it. Yeah it’s classic.
Woof, very front-loaded. This was a solid 5/5 at the beginning, then worked its way down to a 4.5/5, and finally Endless, Nameless cemented it at a 4/5. Shame! Obviously deeply important, groundbreaking, etc. Some absolute bangers, when it's great it's incredible, and when it's bad it's. Eh. Pretty bad. Nirvana always remind me of a guy I dated for a couple of weeks or month or so in very early 2020, who was convinced he would join the 27 club. Absolutely no reason why, the most outrageous thing he did was hillwalking and drinking a bit too much sometimes. He was 27 when we were dating. He's still alive, owns a kitchen in a bar. He's said I can come in for free food if I want, but I don't think I will. Anyway. I'm learning Come As You Are on guitar rn, and that's a lot of fun. Songs added to playlist: - Smells Like Teen Spirit - Come As You Are - Lithium - Something In The Way
Ja, doch
For me, this album came out at the very beginning of 6th grade. My family never had much money but we always seemed to be able to afford MTV, and when "Smells Like Teen Spirit" made it into the rotation, it blew everything up. If you weren't there you might think we're exaggerating but- its true. I was a couple of years too young for Nirvana back in '91, so it took me a very long time to actually listen to this thing. Even though this is one of those Defining Records For My Generation, I didn't glom onto it at the time, and I never really have. The songs are great, but the approach feels very one dimensional to me. There are so many times that Kurt's vocal lines follow the main riff, which is following the bass line identically. So you have three instruments all playing the same thing and it sounds very flat. I like it, it's great, but it's still just insistently, excessively abrasive to me. FOUR STARS

Smells Like Teen Spirit - classic, timeless, growly. So good. No wonder its the most popular nirvana song
4/5
Iconic album cover. Very good debut album. Several great songs. Growl is fantastic. Cobain is a great frontman.
Holds up.
Finally I have an answer to the question "how does spotify handle CD hidden tracks?". As for the record itself, it was a breath of fresh air at the time, pounding the final nail into the hair metal coffin. It still holds up, but I listened to it so much at the time it's hard to evaluate it fairly.
A great album. I still enjoy listening to it.
It’s a good ‘un
Classic album. Have heard this a bunch.
Greatness
Never entirely understood the worship for this as some kind of ground-breaking new sound: nihilistic guitar rock has been around since the Velvet Underground. But that doesn't mean it's not a great album. It updates the sound and lyrics for the 90s generation, there's relatively little filler until late in the album (stay away from "stay away"), and the opening 1-2-3 salvo are all stone classics.
4.0 RYM
First half of this album is perfect and I can definitely see how it started a musical uprising of sorts for generation x. The second half isn’t quite as strong with a few filler tracks but still a great listen front to back. 7/10 Favorite tracks- “Come as You Are” “Breed” “Lithium”
I listened to this album to death when it came out, but I haven't listened to Nevermind for decades. I've barely listened to Nirvana at all since my twenties, perhaps just a go of In Utero every few years for a bit of nostalgia. Listening to this again, it's a lot better album than I remember it being, but I just can't get fully into it. I think it's a sadly a case of my overplaying it when I could only afford a handful of CDs ruining it a bit for me.
I have this album, it's probably all been said before; well produced and played, the songs are what made this album.Love it all
Liked everything except the last song?
Iconic, unreal first three songs. Then some hits or misses for me, and ending on Endless, Nameless, which is terrible. If I were rating for influence, it's a clear 5, but sticking to how much I enjoy the music, separate from the history (within reason), drops it just a bit for me.
I think I prefer the songs and production of In Utero, but this still rocks.
4.5/5
Bom demais, muito além das manjadinhas
Such a great album! The only thing that could have been better is if it were the MTV unplugged. Really a 4.5. Thank you, Kurt. 💙
Lovely reminiscing to this. Thinking I was cool listening to this as a nipper. First half is absolute top tier. I do feel it drops off in second and for that I’ve dropped it to a 4
Sterk 4’er. Første halvdel en del bedre enn andre! Men dette spiller
Yeah, it's as good as you've heard.
Classic album.
Trekker fram "In Bloom" som høydepunktet her. Rare greier. "Something in the way" løfter hele denne siden ut av uføret. Til tross for ujevn kvalitet mener jeg plata fortjener å være blant de 1001, for den er på sitt vis fortsatt nokså ikonisk.
Got a bit screechy towards the end, but other than that all bangers
This album was so close to getting 5 stars… and then the last song played and I was not a fan… -1 point. Sorry nirvana
Absolute banger after banger! The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is so I can give In Utero a higher score.
Some really great classic stuff here. I think I'd have loved this when it came out. Not something I'll put on very often but certainly has it's place firmly on this list.
Nirvanas Nevermind is full of bangers that I’m sick of hearing. Super tight, super brilliant album, but feels like the Americanisation of British music (I might just be ignorant but after spamming Blurs Parklife this feels empty in comparison). Kurt Cobains lyrics just don’t do it for me at the moment. It is amazing art that I’m sure I’ll come around to at some point.

Banger banger banger
Credited with being one of the bands that sent Grunge Rock to mainstream America, Nirvana blasted onto the scene in the 90’s, plastered in flannel, and turned millions of heads immediately. Their heavy drum and distorted guitar-led songs are filled with screamed lyrics of edgy topics like drugs, trauma, death, addiction and mental health issues. Most songs are organized chaos that force you to move to the beat while contrasting slow ballads fill the other spaces of the album; somehow still delivering potent messages to the audience. A great album all around that shocks your system every time you hear it.
Never really got into Nirvana, I think the ubiquity of their shirts pissed/pisses me off, especially when people younger than me, who was born 6 years after Kurt Cobain killed himself, wear them. It's pretty good.
Heard it many times and still really enjoy it. Couple songs that I don’t need to hear every time but overall, a great album.
grunge. original. the moment. the essence.
Undeniably great and influential album, almost every song is great. Almost a 5 star but taking one point off for the closing track, I can't lie is despise that song. Either way, the rest of the album is amazing, spectacular time all around.
the drums sound magnificent, vocals are great - this stands up much better than I thought it would have done
I really like this album. It's fantastic. That being said, I don't really see why some people would prefer it over in Utero. It's a more commercial, less raw sound for them, and when they do try a rawer sound it's not really as perfected as on their next album. It also seems like they maybe didn't have as much artistic freedom with this one in terms of conveying the message they wanted to mostly. Except on Polly. That song is amazing, but also kind of out of place on this album. Legit one of the most scary, sad, creepy songs ever if you dive into the lyrics. Still, this album is packed with bangers - especially the first 5 songs. You have one of the biggest rock anthems ever to kick it off, then a super iconic banger with In Bloom with maybe one of the most iconic guitar solos ever. Come As You Are has one of the best vocal performances, so much pure passion dripping from it. I love Breed because it really plays into their punk background very well and Lithium is my favorite song lyrically, filled with auto-irony but combined with a depressive undertone. Especially the contrast between the dark verses and the continuous Yeah!s of the chorus are super interesting. When you start your album with such a bang it's bound to be kinda frontloaded and that is the case for sure, even if I do like the second half. The chorus of Drain You is so epic and uplifting and every punk song should have as much purpose as Territorial Pissing. I love the drums on Stay Away even if I don't think the song is super essential to the album and I feel kinda similarly about Lounge Act. Great songs but not super standout in the grander scheme of this album. And Something In The Way is very underrated, I never cared for the whispery vocals and the mmmmmmmm humming chorus. Amazing album but very frontloaded and lyrically a bit weaker than In Utero
My second Nirvana album! The cover is iconic and the songs seem to level up to that hype. Hit after hit after hit. This might have truly gotten me into the phenomenon that was Nirvana. No skips for me really even though not all songs spoke to me but there are just so many good songs on the album.
fantastic album. 1st half very good, 2nd half a bit samey aside from something in the way. 4.5 stars.
I was never a huge nirvana fan, but still a great record.
Although Nirvana has never been my first pick when craving some grunge sound, this is one of the albums I would recognize from the first strummed chords. It has most of my favorite songs from the band and it's influence is undeniably huge. Great album.
I'm not a grunge fan but it's hard to deny the quality and influence of this album
this album will never be overplayed imo
I’ve never been much into rock, but I’ve always liked some songs from Nirvana’s Nevermind. It feels really nostalgic — it reminds me of my cousins playing these songs when I was younger. The sound is raw, emotional, and full of energy. Even after all these years, it still feels honest and alive.
Fire
I was so ready to hate on this album not because I wanted to feel special or different by not liking "mainstream Nirvana", but because since I've had use of reason Nirvana has always been overhyped- listening to this album, I fucking understand why. This is nothing less than a 4 for God's sake. It is objectively great quality, creative. melodic, rebellious, a real breakthrough. This will and shall always be in the top charts of music history for a reason. 4.5/5
Bra greier, vet ikke hvorfor jeg ikke har hørt igjennom denne før. Første 5 låtene er peak, etter det dabber det litt av for min del men fortsatt solid. 4/5
It was a breakthrough album in many sense, first of all kicking out the hair metal scene and making GnR old fashioned and cliche... The melodic approach, the quiet/hard moments stolen from the Pixies, the desillusion...and the drums, what a punch !
This becomes a classic and it’s in somehow my maximum of the rock that I do appreciate. Does Nirvana influence that period ?? Without any doubt ! It is a really good album and it really deserves its 4 stars … but it’s not a 5 star gem as well
Nirvana weren’t the first, and maybe not the best, but they were the ones who carried the torch of disillusion after a decade of glitter. The streets, unemployment, drugs, no future… you can blame them for being popular, but the brilliant In Utero which came next (a loud, saturated act of self-sabotage) proves they were genuine, and that Nevermind only really suffers from its glossy production. Not my favorite band of that era, but the era itself was an amazing time for music. I can’t deny the huge influence they had on music in general, and on me too. Nirvana also never made a single bad song, it had to be said.
It’s so funny to listen to this and realise just how many people have totally ripped them off ever since this came out. Unintentionally groundbreaking and forever timeless, ever since the premature loss of Kurt Cobain. Nirvana will only ever be who they were in the early-mid 90s, and I think that is part or the reason why they will never be forgotten. Nothing more can be said about most tracks here that hasn’t been said already, but definitely worth noting that “Something In The Way” is an underrated one. Was cool seeing it featured on “The Batman” a few years ago. I wouldn’t call this a perfect 5 for me; grunge isn’t my favourite; but i’ll always find myself listening to the odd track from Nevermind.
This is THE grunge album. Can’t say I listen to loads of the genre but Nirvana had something special.
It’s hard to write about these select few albums that are so incredibly popular and so incredibly fantastic. It’s nigh-on impossible to say anything new about them, so I’ll just riff on what has already been said a million times already about this album and this band. The main point I made in my In Utero review was my marvelling at just how popular Nirvana was and is, despite their music being quite harsh, quite often. I marvelled at how it’s a great thing that they became so popular, because their popularity fed into the lasting popularity of rock for the next 20 or so years. Having oddly listened to these albums in the ‘wrong order’, Nevermind feels less expansive than In Utero, but far more immediate on first listen, owing to its immortal low riffs and Cobain’s lasting tuneful vocals, especially on the supermassive Smells Like Teen Spirit and Come as You Are. And it’s a true testament to this album’s brilliance that these two tracks are not only great in themselves but also do not outshine anything else on here, be it the faster, manic Territorial Pissings or the slower, brooding Something in the Way. It’s one of a very small repertoire of popular music albums that will last forever, or at least as long as the human race does. It can stand proudly alongside The Dark Side of the Moon or The Velvet Underground & Nico or Pet Sounds as not only one of the most popular, but one of the very best and most important albums ever made.
a classic that still holds up well
This has some absolutely iconic tracks such as Smells Like Teen Spirit and Come As You Are, which were the peak of Grunge in my opinion. The rest of the album holds pretty steady.
Do I even have to say anything?Shame, that after this, most post-grunge acts decided that they wanted to sound like this.
classic
I was never into Nirvana(they ruined metal), but the songs are good and iconic to the grunge scene.
Unfortunate about the front loading. Could have been 5 star with a better permutation
An absolute classic of grungy alternative rock, with so many highs and memorable moments. Come As You Are, Territorial Pissings & Lithium are standouts to me. The distorted sound of the guitars are genuinely iconic. So close to getting 5/5 but there are a couple of slower moments that don't quite hit. 4.5/5 for me.
This album defines a music movement..this was Grunge, ,great album, great tunes. Only.reason not 5 star is I was more in Pearl Jam camp.
Iconic album. Turn of the decade pioneers of grunge. One if my all time favorite albums plus introduced us to one of my favorite artists of all time...Mr. Dave Grohl.
It’s good. One of the most influential albums ever
Good! But I prefer Pearl Iam!!
Love this album. Nirvana changed post punk to mainstream, something I will never forgive them for, but that could not have happened if they weren't so damn good.
I get why everyone loved this record. At the time I didn’t, but in the ensuing decades, it’s grown on me. I never cared for the drama around this band and its “importance”, but this is a great record. Hard stop. I could still give or take it and in 1991, there were a lot of great records released.
I think this album is often judged with bias because it’s too famous, but I really like Kurt Cobain’s guitar tone. At first listen, his guitar might sound like it’s played roughly, but when I pay closer attention, it feels to me that the guitar and the vocals as well as the other parts are almost obsessively balanced. Some tracks grow on me the more I listen, like Breed. Maybe, since I’m not a native English speaker, I might not grasp the lyrics directly, so my interpretation could be different. Anyway I envy anyone who got to see them perform live.
Pretty cool and iconic music
Classic as classics get up until Polly, then just excellent. 9 out of 10 but saving 5 stars for their Unplugged (if it is included)
Très bon artiste ce Kurt Cobain il manque à la scène Rock'N'Roll 🙏
Having heard this one recently, I am very confidently familiar already, so let me put this down. The hit single Smell Like Teen Spirit is okay, compared to the next track in the album, In Bloom, which is very random and explosive, and it is a much cooler performance in my opinion, Kurt going 0 to 180 so fast within a drum filler, and then soaring into the chorus. The weird half descending melody, I just love it, the rest are also iconic. The second half of this album is much weaker than the first. Ugh. Great album if the energy kept up in general.
Classic
4
Solid. Don’t know that I’ve ever actually listened to the whole album start to finish until now.
The album that changed/ruined/challenged everything. Holds up but I wish there were a grittier version
Da werden alte Zeiten wach...
This albums alright in my book. Very familiar with the hits and enjoyed many of the other songs. I don't know why Polly was so funny to me but it was. Would recommend. Last song not so great.
Good Songs: Smells Like Teen Spirit, In Bloom, Come As You Are, Breed, Lithium, Territorial Pissing, Drain You, Lounge Act, Stay Away, On A Plain, Endless, Nameless Mid Songs: Polly, Something In The Way Bad Songs:
The album that defined the 90s and grunge as a genre. Plenty of iconic tracks on this one, but the second half of the album isn't nearly as gripping. Maybe I just don't prefer this kind of big noise, in-your-face style of rock music. Nevertheless, I cannot deny its status in the world of music.
Even though I know a handful of songs off of this album, this will be my first time listening to all of Nevermind. I was blown away by Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged album when I reviewed it, but I thought In Utero was just fine. I think Nevermind will probably fall into one of those two buckets for me, and I’m hoping that this lands closer to Unplugged. Now that I’ve listened to all three Nirvana albums on the list, Nevermind lands squarely between the other two. Nevermind is really good, but it’s strongest at the beginning and end, with a middle that sagged quite a bit to me. It was interesting to give this album a listen today, because I’ve heard four of the first five songs on it so many times, but I’d never really actively listened to them. When I was able to kick back and really pay attention to those songs, I was really enraptured by the guitar playing. There was so much depth to the sound of those guitars that I’d never noticed before. I’d never really given much thought to the bass playing before today either, but I found it pretty exceptional. The guitars on “Smells Like Teen Spirit” really stood out to me today. I’d never noticed that background shimmering effect of the guitars at end of the verse, nor the beeps on the chorus, but even those small elements show how much thought and intentionality went into one of the most popularly chaotic songs of all time. The drumming is fantastic too, especially during the introduction. The bass on “In Bloom” was fantastic, and I think the fact that it managed to stand out on a song with a really excellent guitar riff shows just how good it is. The guitar tones on “Come As You Are” are fantastic as well. Nirvana did a great job of crafting so many different sounds while operating under the somewhat limiting umbrella of grunge. The guitar on the bridge is truly exceptional, and some of the best guitar playing on the album. “Lithium” is one of my favorite Nirvana songs, second to only “All Apologies.” I love the contrast in sound between the verse and chorus, and despite the serious tone of the lyrics, it’s an incredibly fun song to sing along and rock out to. “On A Plain” was the best song that I wasn’t familiar with beforehand. I loved the guitar, and the multitrack vocals were especially awesome, particularly during the closing. “Something In The Way” is so incredibly haunting, and I loved how much the cello added to the atmosphere. It’s wild to me that this was the only song to feature an additional musician. Nevermind’s sound is even more impressive when you take into account that it’s only a trio making this album. As much as those songs stood out to me, the rest of the album really felt like filler that didn’t do much for me. I think Unplugged showcases just how great Nirvana was, but a bit of the emotion and weight of the songwriting on Nevermind just wasn’t there on some of the weaker tracks. Even though I’ve heard some of the songs on this album countless times, they still hold up really well. I wouldn’t consider Nevermind one of the best albums of all time, but it’s certainly one of the most important, and I’m glad I finally got to experience all of it today.
Classic album. Not my scene but great for what it is.
Phenomenal album, front to back. I loved it more 15 years ago than I do now, but it still holds up and has a solid group of songs that get replayed with no skips fairly regularly.
I can't get too deep about this one, but it sure does sound good loud.
Smells Like Teen Spirit // Come As You Are // Lithium // Territorial Pissings // Something In The Way // 4.5/5
Some of them were really good. Endless, nameless: I could not stand the voice. Good mastering of the drums. I liked it until it got a bit tiresome. Anyway, good.
Fav song: come as you are, lithium Nirvana’s best 9/10
oops last one was way too long lmao a classic. amazing songwriting, songs are catchy as fuck while still bringing tons of raw energy. so many great lyrics and riffs throughout favorites: smells like teen spirit, in bloom, breed
I thought this album would surprise me because I'd never given it a 'full album' listen. It actually doesn't, because I knew every song and they're pretty much in the order I'd expect. Pretty cool
Il manque un petit quelque chose qui rendrait l'album parfait. Je dois être biaisé, Nirvana n'a jamais été mon groupe préféré des années grunge.
honestly When I saw this picture I don't feel like listening to it. But very soon I realized I've never listened to this album as a whole integrity.
More polished than In Utero, but I don't mind that. It's an iconic album for a reason. Lots of great songs on here.
Redefining
Incredible album, all the good parts of grunge on full display. If they had cut the last two tracks it would have been a 5 star.
Some absolute generational bangers in here. Album falls off in the second half.
The beginning of Alternative rock as I saw it.
Still pretty good
What strikes me listening now is the divide between absolute bangers, the names of which go without saying, and absolute dross. Some of the songs, I was amazed at how average and below they were. The bangers are 5s, but the others are 2s. Due to weighting of the bangers, I'm going to level out at 4.
Classic teenage grunge. Second half of the album doesn't really stand up
Another classic. Again influenced a lot by knowing this one so well already that I remembered most of the tracks. Would consider owning this one on vinyl, just lost me a bit on the final song.
I don’t think I’ve listened to this album before, although I recognised all the songs on it (even the poor album closer) so it was clearly playing throughout my youth and was memorable without me going out of my way to listen to it! I liked it more than I thought I would, and can hear influences of the Britpop which I went on to love (it really does sound a bit like Blur’s album 13 in parts). A solid 4.
In high school, i did a project on the grunge movement bc i wanted to be cool soooo bad
Great album, though i prefer In Utero
Loved it, really great album. Hut it felt really short
Yep, v good, well, cracking start, tails off a bit in second half. Either this or I can only take so much grunge...
Incredible opening, but tails off towards the end. First three songs are in competition for the greatest 3-song run on any album.
Nirvana's greatest.
I just keep bopping along listening, and then Endless, Nameless comes on, and I'm just WTF, no. I can't make it to the end of that one song. WHY.
Half of this is very strong, half is merely good
Back half falls off a bit for me
Godt punk grunge. Nok det mest indflydelsesrige rent kulturelt indenfor grunge.
It’s a good album. Surprised that I knew as many songs as I did. It is a standout in its genre, I just don’t live it. 3.5/5 Might listen again
2nd time listening to this album. What to say? it's a good time. Best tunes: smells like teen spirit, in bloom, come as you are, lithium, stay away
This work never felt like a movement in the day but an annoying side-sound. It's a wee whiney. Liked Grohl's drumming. Lounge Act & Territorial Pissings.
Classic but in utero is better
Not my type of music usually but very good album though
liked songs: pretty much all Great album. 4.5
makes me want to start a garage band
alright tbf
Clearly musically better than most of what we have listened to but kind of got bored towards the last third The girls loved it
When I was fifteen I started noticing something; everywhere I looked I saw kids my age, older and slightly younger kids wearing the same black hooded sweatshirts. A yellow smiley face with X's for eyes and a squiggly smile was printed on the front of these sweatshirts below the word 'NIRVANA', printed in block capitals, also in yellow. The kids wearing these hoodies didn't look like Buddhists. My next door neighbour Ryan started wearing one too, so one day, in his family kitchen I asked him: 'What does the 'Nirvana' on your emotional support hoodie mean?' Well, he looked at me like he'd walked in on me wok-frying his mother's face with assorted vegetables. 'Nirvana...' he said, with more than a hint of disgust in his register, as though it was obvious and one word would resolve the mystery. 'Nirvana...? 'Nirvana' what? What is Nirvana?' I looked at him blankly. He sighed, turned to walk away and said 'The BAND!' Feeling somewhat humiliated I skulked home, loaded up the computer and searched 'Nirvana.' That afternoon, in my neighbour's kitchen, was 20 years ago. On that rainy, mild afternoon I became aware of the Cult of Nirvana. 'Nevermind' is easily one of the best albums of the 90's. But, as with so many pop culture juggernauts, the brilliance of the work is overshadowed by the people who wear the merch and look at you like you've murdered and cannibalised their mother when you indicate that you don't know the work or the artist. At 15 I was put off by the fact that one needed to be SEEN to be a Nirvana fan to actually BE a Nirvana fan. The gatekeeping, the othering...all of it...was enough to put me off. The music was brilliant, but the fans insufferable (I wonder if we can think of some recent artists whose work falls into this trap.) Luckily, we seem to have moved on from this. Everyone knows Nirvana, everyone knows Kurt Cobain and everyone (sadly?) knows Dave Grohl. No one really knows Krist Novoselek - but I think that's how he wants it. My question is this: Are Nirvana still the band of record for today's angst-ridden teens? I don't think they are. There is too much music out there now, and too much access to it. Nirvana has become classic rock. Maybe they're now even considered 'Dad Rock'. This, I think, is a good thing. People have opined (and will continue to opine) on what Kurt Cobain would think of all this and, to be honest, who gives a fuck? Kurt Cobain is dead, but the work lives on. Nevermind was manufactured in a lab to be the perfect rock album for the time. It worked. You can feel the reverberations almost 35 years later. Very few reviews of Nirvana focus purely on the music (including this one) because of the Cobain mythos and because people are drawn to a tortured artist - it adds 'depth.' Depth is the musical equivalent of salt and pepper as seasoning. All art has 'depth.' It's what separates art from what I do in my kitchen with a glockenspiel. 'Nevermind' is an album of its time that stands the test of time. Ever felt sad? Alienated? Alone? Listen to 'Nevermind' - you'll feel less alone, but possibly sadder and more alienated. Life is about tradeoffs. It's still great music. Is it the greatest? Not for me. But I will rarely skip a track from 'Nevermind.' That, I think, has to stand for something. What it stands for I don't know.
Classic album, one of the first cds I got back in the 90s as a kid so this will always have some nostalgia for me but there is a lot to enjoy here.
Love Nirvana
Masterpiece
They're popular for a reason, and this is one of them. Class album all the way through, and some serious heavy hitters.
Another album with a controversial cover. I'm not a huge grunge fan, but this album is probably the best I've heard.
This is still so good, even after all these years. 4.5 stars
Iconic and classic, but all in all Nirvana makes me wanna blow chunks. Not the best example of 90's alt rock and grunge, but one the does capture the sound. I'm over Nirvana ever since I dove in and gave other bands and albums a listen. Go forth, consume the Melvins, QOTSA, STP, Mud Honey etc.
This is obvi a banger album - coming from me who does not listen to albums all that much. Starting off with an icon, Smells Like Teen Spirit. I don't even care that it's 5 mins, it doesn't even feel like it. I could have an hour long version of that song and it still wouldn't be enough. In Bloom. Pretty good. Obviously not as good as Smells Like Teen Spirit. Still has the spunkiness that comes with this album but also somehow lowkey??? Like it keeps the same pace and volume throughout, but it's not boring. My favorite part was the guitar solo. Come As You Are. So what I'm getting is they love repetitive lyrics. Most of the song contains the same lyrics, not really a bridge involved. They spice it up with vocals and guitar playing and layering to make certain parts of the songs more interesting. Interesting technique. Breed. This is giving punk song in the first min. Okay I really like this one. The tempo is up, the vocals are up, the guitar playings is up, the whole song is up. I love me an angry, passionate, fast, song. Lithium. OMG also a banger. I'm eating it up. The quieter start and then passion. I really liked that one too. Less than Breed, but still top 3 so far. Polly. STOP NOT THE POLLY WANTS A CRACKER. Okay why did this get weirdly deep. Wow they love repetitive lyrics I guess. It's okay. I didn't enjoy it as much cause the lyrics sound mostly repetitive and the song sounds the same all the way through. And it's not fast. I like fast songs. Or not like fast, but that there's something that keeps me interested every second. My least fav right now. Territorial Pissings. Okay definitely back on that punk level. Already enjoying it. One of my fav's def fourth place. There is emotion definitely and I enjoy it so much. Like yes, that's where you've been keeping it. Drain You. We might have to move everything down one. This is def number 2 on the list and everything else moves down. Yes give me interesting instrumentals and different lyrics in each stanza and meaning and cool lyrics and passion and feeling and something interesting in every second. Lounge Act. OMG I really like this one too. Again they upped the raw emotion in the singing. Wow. Definitely number 5. Stay Away. Good song to blast from my car when I leave work at 9pm. Good and the emotion is there but we are back to repetitive lyrics. Honestly I really enjoy this one as well. I might just do a top 3 instead of a top 5 because I really like all the recent ones. Ooo nice drum color, giving a spotlight to other instruments other than guitar. On A Plain. Okay the intro ate down. I really like the lyrics. Honestly, I really like it. The lyrics are good and it's fast-paced enough that I enjoy it despite it being repetitive. The outro ate down again. Something In The Way. Okay change of tone here. Holy shit. This almost made me cry. I have no idea how to describe songs I like. It doesn't have to be fast-paced, though I enjoy those more, but it literally has to keep me interested every second of the song or else I get bored. Unfortunately I have always had a short attention span, do not blame social media, it has legitimately always been like this. I really like this one. Okay my ranking is all skewed here let's just forget about it. Endless, Nameless. Okay I get why they call it Endless, there is straight up like 4 minutes of nothing but sounds and instruments so heed that warning. It kept me interested for maybe the first minute and then I kind of just wanted it to be over. Okay time to figure out my ranking I guess. 1. Smells Like Teen Spirit. 2. Something In The Way. 3. Drain You. 4. Breed. 5. Lithium. An overall rating of 4/5. It's honestly a banger album, only a few songs I didn't really enjoy and most of the time the lyrics and the overall song is sort of repetitive, but I really liked about 3/4's so a 4/5. Okay, that's it.
Nirvana may be an overrated band but this is not an overrated album. However, it is top heavy--the album is severely front loaded. Nevertheless, "Nevermind" has plenty of stone cold classics and energy.
Have never listened to this all the way thru, and am really shocked at how well it holds up. I've never been a big Kurt guy (I think the best thing to come out of the grunge era was Foo Fighters) but he's on one in this, Dave is playing the fuck out of the kit, and Krist is hammering some steller bass runs. Good shit!
It’s a fine album in and of itself, I am perhaps a little jaded by it as of today with no real desire to listen to it again, oversaturated? Overrated? Over mythologised? Tired of the mythos of Cobain rather than the music itself but I can’t listen now to the music without the former. Not the musics fault but there for me, should be a 5 star but because of this 4 Star
This was good! Whilst I’ve heard a few of the songs, I’ve never listened to the album in it entirely and it really is something special!
Probablemente de los más iconicos de la historia, pero las 5 estrellas me las guardo para in utero
Today I‘d give 3 stars. But my 15 years old me came out of the older parts of my heart and demanded a 4-star-rating.
This is the only Nirvana album I have on vinyl. It's very good. I like In Utero slightly more, which I got from this generator a while back. But honestly, it's really close. Two great records, neither of which I love enough to be a 5. But still very good.
