Classic. No requirement to listen, I've been through it so many times. A true 10/10.

Classic. Instant 5 stars. Every song a grunge masterpeice.

I'm presently reading, Chuck Klosterman's, The Nineties book and there is a chapter about Kurt Cobain, Nirvana and Nevermind...coincidence this album would show up now? Rolling Stone notoriously rated Nevermind 3 1/2 stars, but who knew this record would become such a cultural phenomenon and be rated one of the great albums of the 90's. I will admit, I bought the cassette version right after it came out and at first listen thought it was catchy and highly accessible and thought it could have commercial potential. I had been listening to alternative, punk music at the time and at the time never expected this music to be played on the radio. Listening now, the music still sticks and almost every track is recognizable and good, so it's hard to be too critical. You can't call it selling out because the music isn't compromised and still has a punk edge on most tracks. A definitive album of the 90's, but all-time greatest, not so sure.

This album really solidified Nirvana as one of the great rock bands. What they did with this album defined a genre and a generation of musicians. After listening to it fresh, I was taken aback by how many hits are on a singular album. Like there are more bangers on here than some bands have in their entire discography. Can Nirvana be over-rated? Sure. Is Kurt Cobain put on a pedestal and immortalized due to his pre-mature death? Maybe, but even if Dave Grohl's music was never as good, he still is revered by most musicians for his piece in history. Overall, banger of an album. Stand out track: Polly

I avoided Nirvana for a while when I was getting into music because I thought they could never really live up to the hype. I then got really into the compilation with the black cover and decided they were in actual fact, class. I think the appeal for me lies in the balance between hooky melodies and their abrasive sound, and the balance isn't always there, but overall I loved this.

Fond memories of moshing in the student union. This holds up really well. First half of the album is hit after hit, but that doesn't mean the second half is bad. Head and shoulders above any of their grunge contemporaries.

i used to be a nirvana hater (way before this) but I am a nirvana truther now... super amazing... lithium alone probably makes it five stars, but everything else is on point. come as you are, something in the way, even smells like teen spirit, which I thought I hated. kurt cobain's voice is great and drums and guitar are also super awesome.

No skips. A perfect album.

Classic

Favourite tracks: smells like teen spirit; in bloom; come as you are; breed; lithium; Polly; drain you; on a plain; something in the way

You should definitely not call yourself alt or punk if you don't appreciate the depth and complexity of this album. While not all songs are hot hits, they do all have a point of view.

Never gets old

Strong

10/10 nuff said

What can I say that hasn't already been said. An all time classic. Taking the power of grunge to really interesting places with very unique chord changes and pure power all around. Timeless.

Voice of a generation

Though I personally don’t love this album is most others do, I fail to find an actual objective reason to not give it 5 stars. The first half is very grand, and a bit poppy, no surprise that their most popular songs are here. I found a lot more enjoyment in the second half mainly due to the songs being more traditional punk rather than grunge. Fave song: Drain You Least fave: Polly

Theres really no legit complaints you can have on this album. Yeah the first half has been overplayed to hell but that’s because it’s all classics. The back half really makes the album for me too. The drumming on the faster songs is insane and Dave Grohl might be my favorite drummer. Idgaf about technicality or any bullshit like that when it comes to drumming you just gotta have good energy that fits the song and grohl does exactly that on every song. Kurt Cobain also wrote so many great melodies on here too but the main take away from this album is just how much energy and passion went into the songs by all three members. 👍: breed, territorial, lounge act

Every song on here is a gem. This thing aged like fine wine, even the lesser known tracks are so well crafted.

One of those albums I haven't listened to in years because I played it so much in the 90s. Listening back, it absolutely stands up. Music is simplistic, but tightly performed and impactful. Three of the best performers at their respective instruments - this album has no flab, no filler, no instrumental breakdowns that go on too long. The singles may be the most familiar, but every song is strong. I was at a rave earlier this year where one DJ, in the middle of a techno/hard-core set, dropped 'stay away'. Crowd went off. How many 30 year old tracks do you know that could do that? An utterly perfect album.

Nirvana good

Das wird wieder ein Klassiker. Eifach super. Nöd gwüsst das mi es Album so nostaglisch mache cha. 5 Stern.

Obviously awesome

- Heard this many times before - Absolute classic - Pinnacle of grunge music - Says a lot about the quality that despite some of these songs being massively overplayed, they're still fantastic - Fav songs: Lithium, In Bloom, Smells Like Teen Spirit

Favourites: • Smells Like Teen Spirit • In Bloom • Come as You Are • Something in the Way

Epoch defining

I mean this just has to be a 5 star album. If you give it anything else you are a crazy person. It is easily a top 10 album of all time. Even if you don't like Nirvana you have to be able to admit that this album changed the world! The leading song alone was such a moment in music that it cemented the legacy of this album. There are only a couple of song that don't have massive staying power. And even those songs still rip pretty hard. Great album from a great band!

Seminal Nirvana album.

Balls to the wall incredible album

A once-in-a-generation triumph, the kind of record that rips apart the zeitgeist and puts it back together in new and exciting ways. There is before Nirvana, and after Nirvana, and thank god.

The Zeitgeist of grunge. What all other west coast 90s rock aspired to manifest. The culmination of the pain and suffering couple with the inexplicable angst that we all know to be true in our late teens and early twenties. Nirvana captured powerful emotions, mostly angry-ones, and bottled them into a more powerful album. One that defined an entire genre and changed much that came after. Is it a perfect album? No. There are certainly songs that infect you with the spirit of rock n roll, but then there are others that are just kind of… noisy. The sheer volume of innovation here makes it a 5. Kurt was a maverick. His guitar skills were made for power chords, and were adequate for his vocal-tracing solos. The drums were always tight. And can you even make our Kirst through the static? Tough to say! It doesn’t matter! It fucking rocks!

Thoroughly enjoyed

Classic Nirvana album

it's not bleach, and I always approach it thinking it suffers from too many people overplaying it and therefore I want to like it less, but it's an absolute banger

I've probably listened to this record 100's of times, but haven't sat down and played all of the way through in decades. My tastes in music have shifted quite a bit in those years, but I still love it. It's always struck me as funny that this is considered by many to be the quintessential grunge album, but the recording production is so pristine and polished. I think this is my least favorite Nirvana album, partially because of that polish, but that still puts it at a 4.5/5.

Don't know how to rate this lower than 5/5. It's so good all the way through. 5/5

All time great album

I don't think there's any way I can rate this album objectively. Would I give it the same rating if I'd never heard it before? Probably not. But this was such a MASSIVE part of my life. I remember my friend saying he wanted it for his 13th b-day and not being able to remember the band's name. Then this became the soundtrack to my middle school years (including a now embarrassing talent show lip sync of Smells Like Teen Spirit that involved smashing our fake drums and guitars). Regardless of how my tastes have changed over the years or whether this genre still speaks to me like it did then, I can't help but get into pretty much every song on there.

Maybe a bit cliché but Nirvana is one of my favourite bands, and this is probably their best album. The first half is crazy strong, so many good songs. What I discovered this time listening to the album is that the second half, starting from 'Territorial Pissings', is actually very weak. If that was all the album contained it would probably be a 2 for me, but the first half makes up for it. 'Come As You Are' is probably my favourite song on the album. I think 'Smells Like Teen Sprit' used to be the best the first 100 times I heard it, but now it has lost its magic a bit since it's been so overplayed over the years.

The first part of this album is insane with hit after hit after hit. "Polly" is still deeply unsettling. The second half of the album is not as interesting as the first but still holds a high standard with "Drain you" etc. I started thinking about why I never listen to Nirvana and came to the conclusion that I'm just not the biggest fan of their music. Still I recognize the achievement of this album and enjoyed it thoroughly. It deserves a 5 star although it might not be an album I often put on.

Like a fine wine to the gut, Ali in his prime.

10/10 Legendary

Великолепно

Album 80 of 1001 Nirvana - Nevermind Rating : 4.5 / 5 Favorite Track : Come As You Are This is one I've waited for. Heralded as the best album ever by many people, I must admit that I 've never sat and listened to it. Heard the hits that were played on the radio. Well aware of the album, it's success and it's influence in the history of music. Doesn't hurt to actually listen to the album.. I was happy to see it pop up this morning. First three songs are instantly recognizable. I could even give "classic" status to them, as they bring back that moment in time for me. Any of these first 3 songs could easily serve as being representative of the time...and for me that "time" was 2 years after its release. I don't recall many albums with 3 such powerful tunes to start it off (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd does come to mind), then Lithium isn't far behind. It loses me a bit on "Territorial Pissings", but it is all one package and picks right back up and goes strong until the final track, "Endless, Nameless". How am I supposed to rate what is considered to be such a classic, by so many? Do I go on my reaction to the content only or do I take into consideration the place that it holds in recording history? Suppose it has to be a little bit of both. 2 weaker tracks for me...but do those taint the overall album? They do. I suppose there was a creative reason to end this awesome album with such a weak track (in my opinion). I suppose that after reading more background and perusing over the lyrics, I may find my answer. As far as how it tickles my eardrums, I think it could have ended on a higher note. NOTE - After reading, I find that the last track, "Endless, Nameless" was accidentally left off the first 20K or so printings. They should have kept it that way.

its like bottled 90s angst.

One of the first albums I bummed as a kid, noncey cover though

Normie as fuck for a reason

Easy a 5. Opening few tracks simply outstanding.

Landmark rock album! One of the last truly great rock albums. This one had such a huge influence on music and a record I love to put on frequently! 9 out of 10

This album came out when I was a teenager, and was starting to form my own tastes in music, so it is quite an important album for me and hard to rate it objectively.

With the exclusion of the final track Endless, Nameless, this is a perfect album. Personal standouts include Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are, In Bloom, Lithium, Something In The Way, Polly, Drain You, Lounge Act and Stay Away.

Most songs are classic nirvana and are a huge influence to me , got me into so many albums along with rock In General . Always gonna love nirvana

Fuck yea

I listened to this album a lot as a kid and despite it being the album that made Grunge popular, my favourite tracks are the quiet acoustic tracks. Both Polly and Something in the Way blew me away the first time I listened to them. You can tell Cobain was a massive Beatles fan in all his songs but these two songs especially.

This album should be in the top 10 albums of all time.

A deserving classic. So many songs on this this that make you wonder what Nirvana would have gone on to do had they not come to an end.

Bangers all the way down

Gen X classic.

Listen, I was six when Kurt Cobain died. I didn't listen to mainstream radio until 8th grade. I knew Nirvana were Great and Important, but I simply never connected with them beyond the singles. I've listened to their discography, but never connected. That changed this week. This shit. This is the shit.

I don't know how I could rate it anything else, this albums iconic. I had never listened to the entire thing before, so it was cool hearing the second half of the record. 1/1001

One of the most important albums ever made

King Kurt

No real mystery here, this album came out when I was about 8 years old and basically every album I've ever experienced was shaped by it.

One of the best records every created.

Absolute tuneeeeees

Absolutely good! This is what people say the most influential album of garage rock. Definitely worth playing when you feel excited

One of the greatest albums ever made, enough said. Masterpiece. 10/10

A Rock/Pop album from a tortured genius who claimed to hate pop - the melodies and arrangements here disagree. Brilliant album, though their best was yet to come. Best Tracks: Breed; Lithium; On a Plain

When I saw this come up I was excited and surprised seeing it pop up this early into my 1001 albums but considering I’ve never listened to Nevermind and given it’s high praise I had no other choice but to go I with high expectations and it really showed me why it gets the critical acclaim it does. The album kicks off with ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ which everyone has heard whether you’re a fan, just a casual listener or never heard the album before. It’s really fitting kicking this album off with such an iconic guitar riff and energetic drum pattern it introduces the album perfectly. Also have to give props to Kurt Cobain as he gives it his all on the chorus and really rides the high energy and low energy parts of the track well, hard to say this isn’t a stand out. Other stand outs for me are ‘Come As You Are’ which has a bit more of a laid back delivery but the guitar really leads here making it really hard not to like. ‘Lithium’ stands out to me as a more classic rock track with Kurt taking a simple chorus by just repeating ‘yeahhhh’ over and over but the energy is unmatched and his singing in between is a great addition too. I also particularly enjoyed ‘Lounge Act’ where Cobain’s vocals are a little more pushed back compared to other songs and the focus is on the consistent instrumental that rocks the track. Finally the last 2 tracks are both very interesting, ‘Something In The Way’ is one of very few somber tracks on the album with very little lyrical change, the title is repeated for most of the track almost suggesting a stand still, a feeling of hopelessness which is led by Kurt’s tone. The final track ‘Endless, Nameless’ ends the album on an almost prog rock note as we’re hit with some very harsh vocals on the front end as Cobain is practically screaming and then we’re left with the final 4 minutes that turns into this distorted mix of guitar with a mini drum solo layered on top, although muddled it’s a fitting way to end the album. Honestly I can see the reason why this is popular, especially in the 90’s where Nirvana is leading the grunge genre this is almost a powerhouse of moody emotions and also just happens to be incredibly enjoyable as an album too. Will be digesting this one through a couple more listens very soon. 5/5

Nevermind is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential albums in the history of rock music. It was the album that propelled Nirvana to worldwide fame, and helped to define the grunge genre that dominated rock music in the early 1990s. The album features some of Nirvana's most iconic songs, including "Smells Like Teen Spirit", "Come As You Are", and "Lithium". These songs are instantly recognizable and have become anthems for a generation of rock fans. The album's raw, edgy sound, coupled with the emotional intensity of Kurt Cobain's lyrics, captured the mood of disaffected youth, spoke to a generation of listeners who felt marginalized and misunderstood. What makes Nevermind so great is its perfect balance of melody, aggression, and vulnerability. The songs are catchy and accessible, yet still have an edge that sets them apart from other mainstream rock music. The album also features some interesting and unexpected musical elements, such as the use of cellos on "Something in the Way", which adds to the album's overall depth and complexity. The production on Nevermind is also noteworthy, with Butch Vig managing to capture the raw energy and power of the band's live performances. The album's sound is simultaneously clean and polished, yet also gritty and raw, which perfectly suits the music's emotional intensity. Nevermind is probably the greatest grunge album of all time and one of the most iconic moments in modern music history.

One of the most iconic images in the world today and a legacy that will endure: not bad for a garage band from Aberdeen. Weirdly enough I was listening to Jimi Hendrix when I clicked 1001 for the next album and whilst I won't say Cobain is on the same level as Hendrix he certainly changed people with his attitude and vision. I love this album and what it did to people.

Used to listen to this album in my teens whilst chopping wood. 10/10 would chop wood and listen to nirvana again

Still stands up as much today as it did when I bought this as a teenager at the start of the 90s. Just awesome

Fav Tracks: "Smells Like Teen Spirit," "In Bloom," "Come As You Are," "Lithium," "Polly," "Territorial Pissings," "Lounge Act," "On a Plain," "Something in the Way." 5/5

i love nirviana its gonna be a 5/5

I may have heard it a million times. Who would have counted it? Nevermind...

A legendary album. "Endless, Nameless" is the only skippable track, which they obviously knew since they only included it as a hidden track tacked onto "Something in the Way." The rest of the album is superb.

Nothing needs to be said. Anyone my age listened to it. Anyone my age loved it. Anyone my age still listens to it. This album literally changed the game.

One of the most influential albums ever. Nothing I could add that hasn't been said.

Classic

Banger after banger after banger.

Albüm gerçekten çok hoş. En son şarkı niye öyleydi??? Onun dışında zaten Come as you are, Smells like teen spirit, lithium, in bloom, something in the way (albümün yarısı:)) bildiğim ve sevdiğim şarkılardı, o yüzden genel anlamda *chef's kiss

One of my faves

A modern-day classic like White Album or Dark Side. Nirvana could have been huge, but even the band's minimal discography is solid. 5 stars.

Perfection

Absolutely brilliant from start to finish. The first 5 songs especially are just one of the strongest openings to an album I've heard. Never really listened to Nirvana before this but I will be now

Really excellent album. Great songs start to almost finish (wasnt a fan of the final one) And it had the song from the hit movie The Batman featuring Robert Pattinson, so thats good.

UAU. I NEVER HEARD THIS. LOL

what else could i rate this. absolute classic and for a reason

Great album. Game changer.

No comment necessary on this one 5/5

iconic album, mixes the rawness of grunge with catchy earworms.

Easy 5. One of the greatest albums ever made, not only for its own merits (lyrics, songwriting, simple complexity in instrumentals, energy & emotion) but for how it shifted the entire rock paradigm. One of the few albums on this list I own (I don't own a lot of albums) and one of the first albums I ever owned...on cassette no less. I don't need to say anymore or glow about certain tracks. Great album cover to cover. No holes.

I like my music cheerful. But I'm ok with dark when it is as smart and heartfelt and, dare I say it, catchy as Nevermind. Although I don't love every single song (Territorial Pissings, Stay Away) and some are just a little too dark (Polly, Endless, Nameless), I think from the cover to the last note this album is genius and deserves its iconic status.

It's bloody brilliant isn't it. Apart from the bonus track, that's pretty dire. You used to have to wait 25 minutes to hear that, which gave you plenty of time to get the CD out. The rest is genius though.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

1. Smells Like Teen Spirit: Absolute classic, great riffs and haunting vocals. 8/10 2. In Bloom: great buildup, crushing guitar and catchy chorus. 8.5/10 3. Come As You Are: mellow vibes, might be a little repetitive at points but overall an absolute banger. 7.5/10 4. Breed: unknown to me so far, great riff with huge bass. 8/10 5. Lithium: love this track, really good buildup and the vocals on this track go hard. 9/10 6. Polly: sad af with great delivery. 7.5/10 7. Territorial Pissings: nostalgic, great vocals and interplay. 8.5/10 8. Drain You: absolute favorite, love everything about this track. 10/10 9. Lounge Act: again absolutely nothing wrong to be said about this track. 10/10 10. Stay Away: catchy chorus while rest feels a bit less interconnected. 7/10 11. On A Plain: great flow towards the chorus with nice harmonizing. 8.5/10 12. Something In The Way: yeah this song just works so well, sad lyrics with depressing delivery working to a moving chorus. 9/10 13. Endless, Nameless: crazy riff, just really chaotic all around due to all the noise. Given its a secret track. 6/10

A staple album for grunge music

It's Nevermind.

Fantastic album but can't say that I like Endless, Nameless

Nirvana's second album. Released in 1991. Nevermind became an unexpected critical and commercial success, charting highly on charts across the world. The album finally brought grunge and alternative rock to a mainstream audience... Blah, blah, blah, nevermind... It's just one if the best musical albums in the history of human! Could be listened dozen times in a row without skipping any single sound.

Literally all bangers. Polly is better than I remembered. Territorial Pissings is a perfect raw, play it in your basement with friends song. Kurt was off his rocker and the lyrics don't always make sense but who gives a glance when the band is this good.

I knew Nevermind was a good album ... but fuck. It's a amazing album. I cant remember the last time or ever I have sat down and listened to it in one go. Fucking crackers!

I like Nirvana. I like this album. But Kurt was not the musical genius that many paint him out to be. Their best song, "Come As You Are", they completely ripped off from the band Killing Joke. The rest of their songs are basically just using the template laid out by the Meat Puppets. Kudos to Kurt Cobain for cashing in on other people's work.

klasik

Not much to say. This album did more than kickstart a whole genre, it provided a voice for a generation. Outside of the particularly mediocre "Territorial Pissings," it holds up superbly.

LoL I'm familiar with this, is 5 really enough? This was released at the most ideal time in my life and I've lived with this for what seems like forever so I can't give it less than 5!!

Amazing! I reached the nirvana

When I was in school, there were a bunch of other people who were really into Nirvana. At the time, I didn’t really see the fuss. I liked Smells Like Teen Spirit but didn’t really understand the hype. I will say, however, that hearing dodgy covers of Smells Like Teen Spirit by high school bands used to be a fundamental teen experience. Songs I already knew: Smells Like Teen Spirit, In Bloom, Come As You Are, Lithium Favourites: In Bloom, Lithium, Lounge Act This just shows how our tastes change over time. As a little dingus youth, I wasn’t much a fan of this. As a 32 year old, I thought this was fantastic. Kurt Cobain’s vocals are fascinating - been able to sing softly and clearly, while still with some natural distortion and vocal fry, is certainly not an easy thing to do. Yet, he makes it seem effortless. It’s also worth noting that the tone of the bass guitar was often so thick and spicy. The riffs weren’t anything amazing, but the sound was just so big. Overall, I definitely enjoyed this a lot.

Of course Nevermind is a great album. I'm just mad Nirvana is somehow more famous than Perl Jam.

This was one of the most impactful albums in my life. I will never forget seeing Nirvana play Smells Like Teen Spirit on SNL for the first time

This album has probably had the biggest effect on my music taste and has been very influential on me as a person.

Simply sublime

One of the greatest album of all-time, I knew that the cover was one of the most recognizable, and that the band is one of the best, but I never gave the album a true listen. While every track was great save for the final one, I now understand why it's so good. 5/5. Favorite Track: Smells Like Teen Spirit

Of course I've heard it. Many many times. Funnily enough Nirvana aren't high in my post 2006 (last.fm era) listening stats. Artist #156

I loved this album, there is rarely an album where I love nearly every track but this one does it and I'll always love Nirvana. R.I.P. Kurt Cobain.

My favourite ever album. I deliberately avoid it most of time to stop if feeling familiar so this was a treat. Every song is brilliant. And as always struck by just how heavy they were, how good the musicianship was and the clarity of Kurt's diction. My archetype 5/5.

Nothing to say here, one of the best rock albums in the history of the world.

Massive - not much more to day. Some filler, but the killer is primo extra good killer

The most influential grunge album of all time

Very good, haven't listened to a few of the songs and really liked them

Almost every song on this album is a classic, and the ones that aren’t are still good. Not only that but it also represents - almost entirely on its own - a significant pop culture turning point. As a child of the ‘90s who listened to a lot of Nirvana, I am required to rate this 5 stars.

I knew this was going to get a 5 when it popped up. It's safe to say I really like Nirvana's music. I didn't really think much of Smells Like Teen Spirit before relistening to it today, but it's pretty good. I think there's definitely better Nirvana songs though. I knew most of these songs already, with the only truly unfamiliar one being Stay Away. I'm unsure if I will like In Utero more than this album, but I guess we'll see when I get it. The last song on this album is an interesting way to end the album, but it really does fit for Nirvana. It's hard to pick favourites, but I'd say my favourite songs were Come As You Are, Lounge Act, and On A Plain.

I was a teenager after 1992, of course I'm going to give this a 5 star rating. What else could I add to a body of work that speaks for itself? Noisy, angsty, depressed... but catchy as all get-out. Favorite tracks: "Territorial Pissings", "Endless, Nameless", "Drain You"

Classic

Great album

I - 10 II - 10 III - 9 IV - 9 V - 10 VI - 9 ---------- VII - 8 VIII - 10 IX - 9 X - 8 XI - 9 XII - 8 PROMEDIO 1RA PARTE: 9.5 PROMEDIO 2DA PARTE: 8.7 PROMEDIO TOTAL: 9.1 NOTA FINAL: STRONG 10

Just a classic album. Smells like team spirit, in bloom, polly, come as you are, lithium, and I'm on a plain, just wow. Changed music, defined grunge.

My 3rd favourite record of all time and the biggest grunge masterpiece in my opinion. Every track is more than good and the music and lyrics on this album are simply a work of art.

This album was a gift from the gods. Shaped many peoples lives. RIP

I mean what’s there to even say here

Classic for a reason Fave tracks: Smells like teen spirit, In bloom, Come as you are, lithium, drain you, lounge act, something in the way 5/5

Nevermind is such a fun album. It's raw, emotional, loud, and catchy. Kurt's voice is perfect for the style, and all the instruments play well together, but they never feel too simple or boring and all are interesting to listen to. This is a great grunge album and is a perfect starting point for people looking to get into grunge, but also one at the top of the totem pole. Favorite Tracks: Smells Like Teen Spirit, In Bloom, Lithium, Territorial Pissings, Something In The Way

Obviously a five star album. It’s almost reached the point where it’s such an obvious choice that it’s tempting to say “oh actually it’s not that good”…but it is. Personally the order of my favourite Nirvana albums changes regularly and I’d often have In Utero higher because it’s so raw and furious and unrestrained. But Nevermind is simply a magnificent collection of rock songs.

Classic album. Defining music of my senior year

Such a classic album really. A lot of great tracks but Something In The Way is my fave.

I didn't appreciate it at the time, but this really is one hell of an album. Absolutely smashed the trends of 80s rock and set the tone of decades to come. Fave track - I dunno, man, lots to choose from - "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is iconic, "Come As You Are" likewise. I think on this playthrough, "Territorial Pissings" really grabbed me....

5 One of the best ever made. In Bloom, Come As You Are and Something In The Way some of my favourites. Don’t need to say more than that. Superb.

One of the best albums of all time. There’s not even the one average song here, all just top tier. 3 fellas making this sound la, it’s so fucking good. ‘Lounge Act’ and having sex is the best thing you can do in 2 minutes.

Grunge

Masterpiece!

9/10. The back half definitely slowed down a bit, but I can't deny this is a solid album.

For such an incredible first half of the album, I did not expect the back half to be so mediocre. Begrudgingly 9/10

Doesn't get more deservedly iconic

As someone who grew up listening to Nirvana, it's great seeing this album here. This is one of my favorite Nirvana albums, the amount of angst and anger in some of these tracks is one of the best factors of it. Never boring. Fave track(s): Lounge Act, Breed, On A Plain

One of the best of the 1001

I can never add anything else to these classic albums that I know like the back of my hand. 5 stars, that's all I have to say.

I mean. Obviously. 5/5. Grunge is not one of my genres. I do not subscribe to Nirvana or Kurt Cobain fandom. At age 14, I even pretended to dislike this album when it came out, because it was SO POPULAR, and I wanted to be cool and different and like different things. But let's be real here - this album stopped the world, or at least my world, in its tracks. We all looked up and said, "what?" when this came out. Now that I'm older and can accept that I love many popular things (some things are popular because, um, they are good), I realize just how amazing this album was. It is genre-shattering, cohesive, well put-together, had a consistent message to impart. Whatever you think of that message, you have to admit: THE CRAFTSMANSHIP. Holy crap. Nirvana went on to make a lot more music, some of which I enjoyed and think is good, but nothing ever topped this album. Not one of my personal favorite albums ever but any list of influential music would laughable without it.

nevermind er så høyt der oppe, et sinnsykt godt album! Savner tskjorten jeg hadde med albumcoveret som ueg en gang hadde.

An all-time favourite

Absolute classic. There's not one bad song on the album. Love it. 5/5

Very creative, great sounds and production. Ez 5. Era defining.

One of the best ever. A lot of my wonder taste in music can be traced here. 5/5

Scar karjaalta sen sano... kuuntelin sillon.. piti kuunnella.. totta se on..... vituttaa eka biisi.. sen jälkeen nautintoa... Lopussa statement biisi.. Muutama rauhallinen myös loppupuolella.. luo dynamiikan.. urheempiin arjalaisiin biiseihin.. pitkästä nänestä vetäsyltä kuullostaa.. kyytiä sellasille.. niskpersotteella.. hehe...

Overrated? Maybe... But it is still one of the most influential albums of all time. What an all-time classic.

This is a phenomenal album! Say what you will about Nirvana, but Kurt Cobain was way ahead of his time, and played a big part in the grunge movement that happened in Seattle in the 90's. This lineup of Nirvana was amazing. Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl! This album starts off with 5 a-list songs in a row: Smells Like Teen Spirit, In Bloom, Come As You Are, Breed, and Lithium! Territorial Pissings is such a raw and heavy song!!! Drain You is another gem! Dave is solid on drums, Kurt's guitar playing is so sludgy and raw, and Krist ties it all together with some phenomenal bass playing! Finally, an amazing album after an underwhelming week of obscure British bands and electronic garbage. Love this album! Favourite songs: Breed, Smells Like Teen Spirit, In Bloom, Drain You, Come As You Are, Lithium, Lounge Act, Territorial Pissings Least favourite song: "Endless, Nameless". I think Kurt and the band created a perfect album, then as a way of trolling the album listeners, added this song in (which is just noise and screaming) for a laugh. 5/5 easy!!!

Classic - no need to listen

Legendarisch album, geweld aan een stuk door

I mean, come on. I didn't listen to this a ton when it came out, but I did listen to everything it influenced. But I've listened to a lot more since then, and this just holds up.

An absolutely phenomenal album.

This was clearly a landmark album in its time, and yet I'd never listened to it as such. I wasn't sure I'd like it, but I loved it. I knew much more of it than I realized. Wow! I get it. (And we're going to pretend we never encountered that endless, nameless hidden track at the end.)

I did not appreciate this album when it was released. It could tolerate some singles a bit, but would have never imagined that I would like the album. But now, I very much enjoy it!!

Electrifying. So many great songs.

It says a lot that this album often exceeds its reputation. It also says a lot that it sounds even better to me today that in years past.

The epitome of early 90s rock. Has a simplicity to it, backed by angst and grunge. Loved it.

Class…just absolute class.

Jesus, this album is fucking good. It takes seven full songs before we get one that isn't an all-time great, and even the back half includes Drain You (10/10), and a bunch of totally solid songs that you could only object to in comparison to the absolutely killer material it started with. Like, I knew this was a 5/5 before I started listening, but Teen Spirit alone is almost enough to justify that, as are any 2 or 3 of the other first few songs. Just...so good.

Greatest grunge album of all time and one of rocks greatest albums of all Time. Every song except endless, nameless is a highlight

Solid album that deserves all the praise it gets.

Many words have been spent talking about Nevermind over the past 30 years, to the point where it kind of loses its impact. But it's really a once in a lifetime kind of album, in part because of its quality, but equally due to its timing. It was the perfect album for its time and it really changed the way music would sound moving forward. The album comes off now as somewhat more polished than I remember it being when it came out. There's also more variety in these songs than I remembered. Rough edged ragers like "Territorial Pissings" and "Endless, Nameless" perfectly complement the surprising hookiness of songs like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Come as You Are." The sensibility of the album is pure punk, but it's also incredibly catchy and it quite simply rocks hard. Every track isn't necessarily a standout track, but as a whole you can't really fault this album as all. It's outstanding. Fave Songs (All Songs from most to least favorite): Come as You Are; Smells Like Teen Spirit; In Bloom; Stay Away; Drain You; Breed, Lithium; Something in the Way; Endless, Nameless; On a Plain; Lounge Act; Territorial Pissings; Polly

This is a classic, what more needs to be said? Besides the fact that this record reignited a fire in a new generation of people and brought grunge into the mainstream, it's also legitimately good music. You have three musical masterminds creating a raw, unapologetic, and loud album, which can only be described as fuckin' awesome. It's honestly impossible for me to give this anything less than a 5 - Nirvana was a seminal band in forming my toddler-brain's taste in music, and for that I am incredibly grateful (and relieved).

What can I say that hasn't already been said? Nirvana's Nevermind isn't one of my favorite albums, despite being at an impressionable age when it was released and even more coming of age when Cobain died (Nirvana Unplugged was a definitive album of my middle school years). For some reason, it hasn't been one that stuck with me over time. Giving it a re-listen, I can see why it was so critically acclaimed. The first five tracks alone make this worth the listen. Also, as someone who grew up with 90s grunge bands, it's obvious in hindsight just how influential this was on that genre and everything that stemmed from it. Is this a perfect album? No, but it's hard-hitting, emotional, original, and every song is worth listening to. I think this is one I'll be putting on more regularly from now on.

One of the easier 5s. Great hooks in every song, but no less heavy or visceral for it. Those drums! My word. Well done Butch & the gang. Believe the hype!

Class album

🤟🏾🤙

Been too long since I listened to this all the way through. Stay away is an absolute banger. Awesome album

Best of the 90s!

I already know every track front to back. Self explanatory 5 stars. Long album length to keep the quality up but absolutely nails it.

Somehow the best album to release on that day. Smells like teen spirit is in the top 10 songs in my opinion. And the rest of the album isn’t far behind. Iconic

Absolute classic, turned on a lot of teens to the joys of rock! Some unbelievable tracks on this.

Takes me back.

Amazing album. Every song is a hit and enjoyable to listen to. Not only that, they all go together and make for an amazing listening experience. My only complaint is that the last song, Endless, Nameless, is quite bad. It is the only song that doesn't fit with the other songs on the album.

This album is the most overrated album of all time yet it’s still a brilliant 5/5 masterpiece… What I mean by that is there’s nothing really special to this album it’s just 12 standard length songs, 10 of which are loud in your face screamers while 2 are more tender acoustic tracks, and a mess of a bonus track that really drags down the quality of the album. Kurt Cobain can’t even really sing and don’t fucking start on the argument that he “sings with emotion” every singer sings with some sorta emotion in their voice the only emotion that I get from his voice is rage. Other people have kinda put me off this album raving about how amazing this is while they mindlessly ignore every other 90’s album. However most of this is redundant when you look at the album in more detail, the album starts off with 3 bangers in a row with smells like teen spirit, in bloom and come as you are I’ve herd nirvana fans (and Kurt Cobain) stupidity hate on the first track mostly because it’s popular but it’s a brilliant single other bands are probably jealous that they haven’t written it themselves, I’ve also saw a YouTube video where someone said they didn’t like it as an album opener the track literally goes “hello, hello, hello” it’s kinda welcoming the listener. Then there is breed which is mindless filler but it’s probably the worst track on the album and as a worst track it’s pretty good. Then my favourite track lithium I don’t know why it’s so good (the chorus is literally “yeah yeah yeah yeah”) but the track just really works. Then is Nirvanas darkest moment polly a slow acoustic track, a true story about a paedophile and captor from the perspective of the paedophile, Cobain done this in a really good way so that it doesn’t turn out creepy in any way and is actually a really enjoyable song. Territorial pissings is 2 and a half minutes of mindless screaming this one took time for me to enjoy but it’s great especially for the lyric “just because you’re paranoid don’t mean they’re not after you”. Drain you is a personal favourite of mine especially for the bridge section which those drums and random gas noises seeping through my ears. Lounge act and stay away aren’t really that notable but I enjoy them. On a plain serves as a climax to the album like territorial pissings this one was a grower on me but once I got into it this track became one of my favourites this one (similarly to drain you) has one of the best bridges ever. Something in the way was a song that I feared it would get ruined after the (mostly) mindless generation of modern music lovers who will believe that any old random trap beat is cool got their hands from it after the batman movie but it fortunately didn’t ruin the song all too much and still stands as one of the best album closers of all time. In conclusion I like this album but I think that this (and nirvana as a whole) is non mainstream music for mainstream people (kinda similarly to guns and roses but I’ll get to that another day).

For my money, the greatest album of the 90s. This is where that decade began in earnest. No more outlandishly voluminous hair with spandex and girly looks, it's time to get real and get gritty. Sure, it sounds polished but it's the sound of a generation ready for a revolution. And this is the band to entertain them and us from beyond. I wish there would be more for me to say but oh well... whatever, nevermind.

iconic

It's pointless saying anything perfect album and definitely one of if not the best grunge albums.

very cool...

Full of classics All Killer no Filler, just can't not give it my highest praises, not only is it a masterpiece, it is a very nostalgic album for me

Super!

What can I say? it's a masterpiece. Solid rock and grunge vibes all around. Can't help but get hype even if Teen Spirit is overplayed.

Bought this the day it came out and was amazed at how good it was. Played it to death and saw them in this tour. Got the killing joke riff in Come As You Are as soon as I heard it. Great album

8th-10th grade me loved this shit and I respect him heavily for it

This is my 252nd album - I don't think I've seen as many 5/5 reviews yet, or as few 1s & 2s. I agree, No arguing about this album's place on the list

We could plant a house, we could build a tree.

Amazing

Classic alert

Legendary album, i don’t love grunge but this album made history

Funny that this came right after Def Leppard. Nirvana and grunge replaced big hair bands. This is a classic. Definitely my pace. Here we are now…

I only disdained Nirvana from the radio play and the fans. I had never heard the harder songs, and the entire album is great unfortunately. Ugh.

I love this album so much, it is probably one of my favorite of all time. I enjoy EVERY song on this for different reasons. While I don't listen to it as often as I used to, I still hold this album very close to my heart. Classic album from one of my favorite genres and decades of music!

Going three for three right out of the gate, plus adding in two more solid songs, and rounding out the whole disc with decent songs to hang out with make this offering a must listen. I knew Nevermind was an iconic album, but I don’t think I’d ever listened to it in full or realized just how many amazing Nirvana songs came from just one album. It was a pleasant surprise to find out this is one of those albums you really can listen to from start to finish and not really complain about a single song, well except maybe “Endless, Nameless”. This one seems like an experiment in sound that might have been better skipped. But I also don’t know the story behind it and imagine there being a wild story associated to the song.

This was one of the first CDs I ever bought in middle school (it just felt like an important thing to buy to start a record collection), though a few years passed before I actually got into it. In high school, two friends and I all got into Nirvana at the same time. Many summer days were spent listening to their albums together while playing Halo on Xbox. Nirvana is one of those great bands where I can hear the influence of each band member. Krist Novoselic’s bass has a big, fat sound. It’s much more prominent than in a lot of other rock bands. It influences the tone of a lot of songs too — it can be menacing and dark or have a lighter bounce and rhythm. And Dave Grohl’s drums have a thunderous energy. These might be my favorite drums to air drum to while listening. Some of his drum fills are pretty straightforward but man, he plays the hell out of them. And then Kurt Cobain. His guitar is rough and expressive, and it roars in his solos. There are a ton of great riffs here too. And of course, his vocals. This album has long been a soothing balm for my angst and his singing is a big part of that. His screaming is cathartic. It’s been a while since I’ve played something on headphones loud enough to hurt my ears. This was a fun album to revisit and hit me on a day I needed it.

I've been listening to and reading a lot about Nirvana lately. Probably because of my recent trip to Seattle. Man are they so good though. What a damn shame. They are so tight on this record. Everything is really stellar and well done. Performances are all A+, songwriting is all A+, Butch Vig killed it on the production (specifically the drums, UGH they are good). I love that this is a band where you can listen to over the years and go through phases about what songs you absolutely love and then it rotates to another set of tracks. For me right now, "Drain You" has been one of my Nirvana rotational hits. Ultimately, if this album only had "Smells like Teen Spirit" on it, then it would be an immediate 5 out of 5. What an anthem for angst and for youth.

perfect. forgot how good they are - my feet are all busted up from ana sofia’s party 💔💔 it was equally cursed and fun. i’m glad i went

First full listen through. Brilliant top to bottom.

An all timer. One of the very very best. I’ve bought this at least 4 times in various formats since it came out. I was obsessed with this as a teenager.

What can I say? This rocks like few others ever have. Smells Like Teen Spirit is one of the great songs, but I've been in love with Lithium since I first heard it. The music and lyrics work together perfectly. Seriously, there are only great songs and better songs.

Great albumn. Happy ti give it a listen again

An all-time classic. Every song, with the possible exception of Stay Away, is first rate. A singular achievement that both defines and transcends "Grunge" 5 stars

One of my all time favorites. Raw, emotional lyricism Track 13 “Endless, Nameless” gets a bad rap for being a bunch of noise, but sometimes listening to it just helps me sort out the confusion in my life—or at least provides a brief respite. Track 2 “In Bloom” is one of my personal favorites. I feel like I can wear isolation as a badge of honor. Track 5 “Lithium” literally reads my mind. I assume most people can say that about this one though. Overall an amazing album. Definitely somewhere in the top ten for me. I’m not sure if the world as a whole deserved this one.

Love it!! Soundtrack of my adolescence.

It's gooood

Classic

Nirvana – Nevermind The defining album of grunge rock, 90s rock, and perhaps 90s music in general. Does it hold up to scrutiny? Post-listen, the verdict is a resounding yes. - Smells Like Teen Spirit - A song that launched a genre and permanently changed rock music. Dave Grohls drums, Kurt Cobain’s pained voice and guitar, the subtle but constant pulse of Krist Novocelin’s bass, and the explosions in the chorus all are absolutely iconic. A perfect encapsulation of their fusion of punk aesthetic, pop melodies, and noise rock aggression. Has a rawness that conveys emotion eloquently despite the nonsensical lyrics. - In Bloom – Slower and heavier than Teen Spirit, the bass stands out on the verses giving an ominous tone. Lyrics in the chorus amusingly criticize fans who sing along without having a clue what songs mean. Rest of the song can be read as a loss of innocence, characterized with abuse of nature and of people. Screaming guitar solo is an interesting effect too. Not as a raw as Teen Spirit but a solid song. - Come As You Are – Melody and straightforward drum in the verses could be a modern pop song if not for Cobain’s anguished singing. It’s the poppiest of the singles on the song. Lyrics are intentionally contradictory, each line a rebuttal of the last, showing contradictory expectations of how people are “supposed to” act. Pretty nice one. - Breed – Opens up like a more traditional 80s rock song (kinda sounds like Deep Purple to me, I guess). Mix of 80s rock and hardcore punk. “I don’t care” is the most repeated line, both taken as a partner giving in to their other’s wishes, a statement of apathy, and a statement of disatisfaction. Basically, it’s a rejection of the mundanity of late 80s/early 90s Middle American Dream – marriage, house, baby, career as quick as possible. I like this one, even though I’d forgotten it completely. - Lithium – A song about manic depression, showing both highs and lows as well as various strategies to cope, including religion, isolation, self-blame, drums/medication, hypersexuality, etc. Interestingly, the coping mechanisms are mostly portrayed positively, as necessary ways to handle depression. The “Yeahs” are kinda annoying, but it fits the “mania” part of manic-depressive episodes. The “I’m not gonna crack” bridge is good. Solid song overall. - Polly – A very disturbing song in context (it’s about a kidnapper and rapist talking his victim). I applaud Cobain et al for doing concerts to raise money for rape victims, and calling attention to the issue through song is a good thing, but can’t enjoy it. - Territorial Pissings – More of a hardcore punk song, which isn’t my favorite genre. Some raw aggression despairing over the idiocy of society with some feminist lines. Basically, it’s mocking “macho men” fighting over power and women being like animals pissing on their territory. - Drain You – About Cobain’s previous relationship with Tobi Vail (of the band Bikini Kill), describing the unhealthy dependency young love develops while also being fairly positive in general about the relationship. The extended instrumental break has an odd darkness to it. A real grunge-style love song, simultaneously mocking and sincere, dark and positive, gross and sweet. - Lounge Act – Another song about Tobi Vail. Named because Cobain thought the bass sounded like lounge music. Not my favorite as it’s mostly redundant thematically and doesn’t have the best music. - Stay Away – A song about everything Cobain hates. The guitar shrieks during the “I don’t Why” parts are a really nice effect. Among the many things criticized are “macho” men, commercialization of music, unhealthy relationships etc. Nice bass on this one. - On a Plain – Probably about drugs, numbness and trying to cope with pain. It’s probably the most forgettable track on the album tbh. - Something in the Way – Title is reference to graffiti under the Young Street Bridge where Cobain supposedly lived under (he didn’t; he just hung out there as a kid). The most low key song on the track. It’s a mellower track with the verses almost whispered. Essentially a story of despair after an album of anger and confusion. Last main track. - Endless, Nameless – The hidden track. Started as a frustrated jam when “Lithium” wasn’t coming together. Lyrics are screamed, moaned, or otherwise incoherent. An expression of pure rage and frustration. Takes the harshness of the album to a horrifying new level. Kinda nightmarish, but like, in a good way??? Throughout this entire album, I’m most impressed with Krist Novocelic’s basswork, providing the background pulse that ties the music together, and the tone for most of the verses. Cobain himself is of course great, and Dave Grohl brings a suitable level of aggression. It’s a classic album for a reason, and it’s actually much better than I expected. It holds up as a masterpiece of rock, in part due to Novocelic’s underrated basswork, the genuinely innovative fusions of genres, and strong thematic/aesthetic mixing. I’d definitely give this one a 5/5. It’s not perfect (there’s some parts I really dislike), but deifintely in the upper echelon of rock ablujms.

Listened before - Yes Enjoyed - yes

Unsurprisingly this is a phenomenal album, with a strong identity and instantly recognisable sound. The first 5 songs are an immensely strong opening and while it does dip a bit after that, it's only a very slight dip. Fantastic playing from all 3 members, with fantastic writing and vocals that integrate perfectly.

What more can be said? Incredible album.

10/10 even when some of the songs weren’t really my style, it still sounded great the whole time favorite song is Something In The Way, though all the youtube comments were saying it was in the new batman movie which kinda sucks like dude, I just really loved the way that awesome double bass (cello?) worked with everything else I don’t wanna look like a god damn Robert Pattinson stan whatever, regardless, this album is fucking incredible

I used to be absolutely obsessed with this album as a teenager. My favourite of theirs with all the classics and yet I had to relisten to some of the songs as I couldn't recognise them, oops. Solid.

hmm yep it still slaps

A rock masterpiece. Never a dull moment listening to this album, and one of just a handful of albums that, to these ears, has zero filler.

One of my favorites albums. Ground breaker at its time. Synthetized the grunge movement and gave it international impact. It was the inflection point between the 80s and 90s.

Definitely an album ya gotta listen to before dying. Chalk full of absolute bangers.

I think its probably a 5. Not something I would listen to that often but hits the spot.

I keep thinking I should check this album out and then getting distracted by my usual comforting favorites (i.e. mostly Taylor Swift). But that's why this project is such a great experience. Seriously a fucking fantastic album. Not much left to say that hasn't already been said, but obviously this album was hugely influential, even if the baby on the cover ended up being litigious (weird true story, by the way). No skips here. Duh. Fave obvious track: Smells like Teen Spirit. Fave deep cut: Something in the Way. Even if you don't love grunge, and I'm on the fence about it, there is some real vocal versatility on this album you will appreciate. Genuine artistry. RIP, Kurt.

Classic album, fantastic listen.

An absolute classic that will always rock

A generation defining classic.

Wow! Album that changed whole rock music. It's like before Nevermind and after. Rock solid 5/5

Best album ever made

It's been a while since I've listened to this all the way though. I wasn't sure how well Side B would hold up, but it does very well.

"In Bloom," "Something in the Way," "Breed," and "Stay Away" are probably my faves

Still rips.

One of the most iconic albums of all time, and well-deserved. Few albums have made as big of a splash, made more of an impact in launching an era of music.

I never owned this album when it came out. Everyone else seems to have had it, but not me. Of course, it was all over the place at the time. Upon hearing the opening track today, I was confused for a second why Weird Al wasn’t singing, “Now I’m mumblin’ and I’m screamin’.” Today’s listen was a bit of a restart with Nevermind for me. I had heard the whole thing, or so I think, but it felt new, fresh, which was nice. My initial read is that this is a first half album with a fall off in the back half. Upon another listen, I think the second half holds up well. It’s definitely not as good as the first half, but still quality stuff. I’m currently reading Dave Grohl’s book, which is timely. He writes about living on Kurt Cobain’s couch for 7 months, scraping by. And then this album came out and everything changed quickly, especially after the Smells Like Teen Spirit video came out. Ahh MTV used to play videos, and you know, not suck. When shopping around for a record company before recording this album, Cobain told an exec in New York that he intended to be the biggest rock star in the world. It happened and unfortunately he did not like the consequences. This album was revolutionary and kicks your teeth in from the get go. It’s soft and melodic one second and like a distorted war zone of machine gun fire the next. This album knocked Michael Jackson out of the #1 spot for weekly album sales. In other words, it was HUGE, and deservedly so. Side note: I wish their were room for Weird Al in the 1001 list. I understand why he’s not there, but I feel like he created an original genre worthy of recognition.

An east one for me as I know this album pretty well and love it. There are of course a few tracks which I’m totally not bothered by but on the whole a fantastic album full of teenage grunge despair.

Catchy choruses and messy guitars. Great then, great now

Not as good as I'd remembered, the middle sags a bit, but it's still a 5 star album by sheer weight of stone cold classics on here. Growing up I always thought Smells Like Teen Spirit was their best... but I think In Bloom might be way better? Idk, tough to say.

Another classic, so many great tunes on here I distinctly remember hearing Smells Like Teen Spirit for the first time in about 2007 - I immediately googled 'Nirvana UK tour dates' and was very upset with what I discovered

Para mí todas las canciones son buenas o muy buenas desde «Smells Like Teen Spirit», pasando por «In Bloom», «Come as You Are», «Lithium», «Polly», «Drain You», «Stay Away», «On a Plain» o «Something in the Way». Obra maestra.

Classic Grunge from the boys from Seattle. Great album throughout and can see why it is on this list. Love "Lithium" "Smells Like Teen Spirit" "Come As You Are" You can hear Michael Stipe and REM's influence throughout. a real revelation at the time leading to a whole movement for the age. Good choice for this list in my honest opinion one of the best albums in the last 30+ Years. Kurt's Empathetic Vocals, Chris's thumping Bas alongside Dave's relentless drumming makes this the best post punk punk album of it's era. Love it and glad it is on this list!

I know this album and I love it

An important landmark in the annals of rock history. Lots of variety on this record, with songs like "Polly" and "Something in the Way" providing counterpoints to the heavier, grungier songs.

Spawned a genre and generation. Total 90s zeitgeist. What more is there to say? Well, I did appreciate inclusion of the noise rock closer "Endless, Nameless" quite a bit.

Good to listen back to the whole album again as was a staple of the key songs when our originally. Good to hear some contemporary influences from such songs as territorial pissings on such bands as Idles. Forgot how that and lounge acts were on point songs without the air play 🤘🏻

Goated. Flawless. 🤘. 👍. 🤩.

🏊🏼🏊🏼‍♀️🏊🏼‍♂️

Recently fallen back into a Nirvana fan boy hole. Really enjoying everything they did right now

Stone cold classic.

sonzão intenso, justifica o hype

GAME CHANGER ALBUM..5!

verdens beste album hilsen emonora fra 2010 (bortsett fra mcr sine seff) beste songa som ikkje e smells like teen spirit: lithium in bloom lounge act

I fell for this album long before it became the hip thing to do. I watched the Smells Like Teen Spirit video a couple of times, noted how I couldn’t get it out of my head, bought the album, and then realised that this most famous of songs is actually eclipsed by the likes of Drain You (my favourite, by far) and, say, Lithium. Personal preferences aside, there are no duds in this album. And then the album broke out to become the phenomenon it still is and mark a bit of a crossroad in the evolution of rock music. There simply is no denying the historical importance of this album. Does it stand the test of time? I’m the first to admit it doesn’t trigger me the way it used to. I will also admit to have grown much mellower and refined. But some landmarks are still worth recognising as the landmarks they are.

The ultimate grunge album. The grunge album to end all grunge albums. Wow, that baby's penis is really blown on up my computer screen. Hold on, I need to block it. The hooks are infectious and dirty, like an open wound. Cobain's personality shines through every song with his raw vocals. The bass and drums hit like a ton of bricks; it's the sound of a decade and yet it's timeless. The songs I've heard a thousand times before are still great, and the songs I've barely heard at all are refreshing and just as good. It's the perfect noise.

Perfect

Never 'eard of it mate. It's Nevermind. Any adolescent who grew up in the 90s knows every word. I marginally prefer In Utero, but this is the better pop album.

There’s a reason this is widely considered one of the best ever

A completely deserved classic. I know it’s trendy to say you like their other stuff better but in my eyes this is Nirvana’s peak.

I'm not worthy of reviewing this one.

This is such a classic. Really love this album. So much energy! Only song I don't like is Territorial Pissings.

Probably the first album I ever bought, although it came out before I was even born. I still love it, and while I'm sure that's partly out of nostalgia, I can't rate it anything but 5 stars.

cmon you know I've already heard this album guys

love nirvana.

5 stars for Diogo... my buddy used to love Nirvana, he passed at the age of 16.

Not much to be said, iconic album. Bangers front to back.

1991. Smells Like Teen Spirit, Breed, In Bloom, Lithium

You know those albums where you don’t skip ONE. SINGLE. SONG. Yeah this is one of those. It’s a classic for a reason. Nirvana rule. Period.

It’s brilliant. A smack you round the face record with awesome hooks, stunning drums and a front man of irresistible, unlikely charm pouring his heart out (maybe a little too much, as it happens). The whole album has you singing along, head banging along wherever you are. It’s a terrific achievement and modern music would never quite be the same again.

This is as good as it gets right? I got into Nirvana when I was 16, when the Greatest Hits album came out in 2002 (I think I got it for Christmas, and proceeded to drink deep of their back catalogue). That fall there was also a new Foo Fighters album out, Muchmusic was rerunning their Nirvana documentaries and Kurt’s diaries were wrongly published. Nirvana were in a revival period and despite Kurt having died 8 years earlier, it felt a generation ago at that time. Listening to this one now, it’s amazing that I had ever thought of this as gritty or non mainstream music. It’s pure pop perfection, I think it’s basically The Beatles in its specificity and catchiness. Part of this has been every popular rock band of the last 30 (!) years ripped this off, from Oasis to Arctic Monkeys, and Linkin Park to Royal Blood. This one is also short enough that it absolutely does not waste a single note. There’s nothing difficult to understand here, guitar solos are pretty much the chorus’ repeated again and Grohls drumming makes the music exciting even if you’re listening on iPod headphones. While a lot of the albums on this list I’ve played I love, this is one of the very few I would play again after it finishes. It’s so focused and still so raw. Probably about the most powerful album I’ve ever heard. Nirvana were a gateway for me to the rest of alternative and indie rock. At this time my nascent CD collection would have been Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers and maybe Barenaked Ladies. I went into so much material on Nirvana I started learning about Pixies, Janes Addiction, Bay City Rollers and Mudhoney. I also started listening to Pearl Jam and Soundgarden at the same time. To this day I still have flannel button down shirts as part of my uniform. Likely the most influential album to my musical tastes and pop culture leanings. I also have no misgivings or embarrassment about my allegiance to it. I think this album is an essential part of growing up. I suppose I will go into my thoughts about Kurt Cobain next time I get a Nirvana album. Maybe on Dave Grohl if there’s a Foo Fighters coming up.

Had forgotten how good this album is. Lots of variety as well.

Wow! So glad for this recommendation. This is a fantastic album, completely changed the 90s music scene. In my top 10 of all time.

Bara typ två potentiella skips, resten är bangers

Klassiker

I feel like this album has become such a part of the musical wallpaper of the last 30 years that it’s almost impossible to talk any shit on it. I will attempt to do that however, as I can still remember when this album came out- it felt like it ripped off all the right bands in just the right way. There’s Sonic Youth in here, there’s Jesus Lizard, there’s Mudhoney, there’s Soundgarden, there’s the Dead Boys- it’s like their influences have become so in twined in their music that you could no longer tell they’re ripping all those bands off. I guess that’s what makes an album A classic. As much as it pains me to say, this is an undeniable classic…

Pretty incredible. I got burnt out on this album since at the time of its release, it seemed like it was the only thing anyone was listening to, so I haven't listened to this one in a while. I can remember walking through the halls of my dorm and every room was blasting "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Pretty well-deserved praise though. All the songs are catchy without being annoying. This is going back into the rota.

No to mamy dobry początek. Wiadomka, album świetny absolutnie i nie ma co tu wiele się rozpisywać.

So many overplayed mega hits that I’ve stopped listening to this album. Certainly groundbreaking (Thank you Kurt Cobain) and drove the hair Metal freaks into the dark depths of MTV history. That said, this listen put it at a four point something but not a five star album. Decided to roundup to a five just because .

the hits have been overplayed, but still rock. the deep cuts are what keeps Nirvana cool. Easy 5

Nirvana. 4 megahits.

Loved it

one of the great rock albums no bad songs and some unbelievable hits too

Simply a 5 for me, still quite good music but strongly elevated by my nostalgia for hearing this music growing up and having Nirvana inform my taste for grunge.

Call me crazy but this is my 3rd favourite Nirvana record (Incestiside and In Utero, whaddup), possibly due to it being insanely overplayed - but still a very worthy five stars. Fav Tracks: "Breed" "Territorial Pissings" "On A Plain" " In Bloom"

Lo-Endless, Nameless Hi-Everything else! I can't really think of any albums in my lifetime that have truly made history, but this is one of them; Just about overnight "grunge" was born, and to the uninitiated, sounded like screaming and thrashing about--It wasn't about that, it was the perfect balanced blend of garage punk, nü metal, teen angst, and flannel and torn jeans as far as the eye could see. Raw chaos...It was exactly what the world needed after a decade of tight slacks, button-up shirts, and precisely sculpted hairdos. Nevermind is a carefully crafted atomic bomb, it subverts expectations, the lyrics are weird and otherworldly, but curious and observational. The guitars crunch, the bass is plucky, the drums pound, and Kurt ties the room together. The only less-than-perfect track on the album is Endless, Nameless, not a bad track by any means, but feels like it could be done without, as there are 12 other great tracks. Seeing as this was a lot of folks first CD, I could see this was an ingenious way to let the listener know the album is over and it's time to shuffle around for a different one...Many albums of the time were like this, shunting their weakest track to the end. Everything else is perfection, this album is nearly perfect, and it left an indelible mark on history.
