Reviews (page 9 of 15)
/insert the lady gaga superlative gif here because this album is perfection.
Can't beat it
Great album! Those first chords took me back to middle school. I’m pretty sure I had this on cassette because I only knew the first 6 songs.
Passable. Nothing special.
AMO! Melhores músicas: Lithium e Come as You Are
Just amazing songs all around
What a blast from the past, a reminder of the nihilism of the 90s and a time when one band could truly change the face of modern music with just one album.
Fantastic album that is a staple of 90s rock. Nirvanas best album and one of grunges best album as well. Not really a bad song on here. 9.2/10
For the nostalgia, for the fact that it holds up, for the fact that track after track it's absolutely brilliant ...and I bet I haven't heard this in 10+ years.
Every bit the classic that it's reputation says it is. There's just not a weak song. From mid tempo killers like Teen Spirit and Come As You Are and Polly, to adrenaline blasts like Territorial Pissings and Lithium to slow burner like Something In The Way, they never lose their melodic way. What shocked me is how often I heard a Black Sabbath influence in this album (meant as a positive). A no-brainer 5 🌟
One of 3 or 4 game changing albums in my lifetime
Great friggin album, so many bangers
9/10
This brings back so many memories of my angst-ridden and disaffected yout--after all, a cute boy who played the guitar in my high school introduced Nirvana to me. Sort of. It was one of the bands that got me through those tough teenage years, to be honest. When I was sad, I would blast some of these songs from this album to drown the world out or to imagine screaming the lyrics of these songs. This band is punk rock and I am still, deep inside, very punk rock too. I love this band and their sick riffs, their lyricism, and the fact that Polly is an anti-rape anthem. But upon second listening for this project, I realised that I missed out on a lot of good songs. Apart from my favourites, like Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are, and obviously Polly, I'm also surprised by the slower song, Something In The Way. I wasn't educated with knowledge of music, so I can only comment on the fact that Nirvana has always had a very distinct sound and style that gave the band its identity. Other pluses tangentially related to the album include: Kurt Cobain being a feminist and always trying to stand up to do the right thing. I hope he's resting in peace. 5/5
Not everything on here is incredible. But enough of it is. This is the sound of the early 90s for me.
This is probably the best rock album of the grunge era, and maybe even the 90s itself. Every song is fantastic.
Dinamika!
Classic
What is left to be said about this superb album
Maybe, I'm just remembering the first time when I listened to these songs, but I can't give to it less than 5 stars!
It is just a few weeks away from it being 30 years since Nevermind and Smells like Teen Spirit topped the charts across the world. It is also nearly 30 years since I stage dived at their show at Sydney's long since closed Phoenician Club. Never was there a gig with such energy and excitement, it was impossible not to get caught up in the atmosphere. Few if any albums have captured a zeitgeist as well as this one and it was the perfect soundtrack for 18 year old misfit from the suburbs to find his people.
Dunno what I could possibly say here, as a devout Nirvana fan.
I was sceptical whether this album will sound good after thirty years, but did. It was great listening to it. A sequence of one great song after the other.
clássico!
Absolute 5, every track is a hit on its own, it's hard to imagine that there will be something as good as Nevermind
What is there to comment on this? It's a jewel! Did not have the time to listen to it but I know it like the palm of my hand.
A classic for a reason
Ahhhh another classic. While in utero was a 5, this is even better. Every song except for maybe the closer is excellent. Favs: smells like teen spirit, in bloom, come as you are, breed
Track 01 - 4.5/5 Track 02 - 4.5/5 Track 03 - 4.75/5 Track 04 - 4/5 Track 05 - 4.25/5 Track 06 - 4/5 Track 07 - 3.75/5 Track 08 - 4.25/5 Track 09 - 4/5 Track 10 - 3.75/5 Track 11 - 4.25/5 Track 12 - 4/5 Track 13 - 3/5 Overall: 4.5/5 Album Art: 4.75/5
No words needed, although the 39 track version I have is perhaps excessive
Ah! An album that deserves to be in the top 100!
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
It's an album I've listened to regularly since it came out. What more can I say?
Iconic opener. It's probably cliché but Kurt Cobain was ahead of his time with his lyricism and ability to play with words. Simple and strangely inviting. Combined with the heavy tones of the instruments it makes for an incredible sound that captured the mood of a movement.
dude cum as you is
Was tossing up between 4 or 5 stars but this really is a solid album start to finish. Easy to see why it is so important and influential.
"Something In The Way" siempre me ha parecido buenísima. 9.5/10
classic, you already know it's good
One of the best albums cover to cover
What can I say, this is a classic grunge album but not my favorite grunge album
Top ten favorite album
I used to act like I didn't like Nirvana because they were so heralded and some of Kurt's behavior...rubbed me the wrong way I guess? I used to put my nose in the air and cry "overrated!" I was an idiot. This album is a stone cold classic. The singles ESPECIALLY Smells Like Teen Spirit have been played to death by rock radio, but looking past that: they are great songs. My personal favorite here is Drain You. It's a true earworm and never got beaten to death on the airwaves.
Masterpiece 5/5
sometimes albums that make the "best album of all time omg" lists are just overhyped nonsense like fleetwood mac, but other times they genuinely are that good. this album deserves to be up there. this is the third Nirvana album I've had here and I'm guessing also the last - I can't think of a sensible reason to have Bleach in here and their other albums are all compilations - but where I gave the others 4s, this one gets the full 5/5.
Personal top ten
The start into the 90th. What a milestone in music history. Everything about it was remarkable. I wish it would have lasted a little longer.
Music that makes you( or your wife) want to shoot yourself in a good way
Grunge goes mainstream. What a sell out. I heard a very strong rumour that the person holding the dollar bill on the hook was Robert Plant. He lured that baby into his lair and, well, you know the rest. SHACK was wanking to this at breakfast this morning. He also ate lamb chops.
This is very nice, I'm sure there will be quite a large audience for this quiet, LOUD!, quiet, LOUD!, quiet, LOUD!, Beatles meets '80 hardcore thing they've got going on. If they stay on the right path and stay away from rock n' roll excess (say no to drugs kids), I predict big things for this band.
Unapologetic and raw. Boisterous and moody. Authentic grunge right from the well.
Altijd en helemaal goed!
Klassieker! *****
Rating: 10/10
Legendary landmark. The beginning of my love for this type of music.
The album that changed the face of music. Can barely think of a more significant album in the past 50 years and it still sounds incredible when listening today. A masterpiece
An amazing album that created a zeitgeist and defined an era of music.
This is not my favorite album of all time but like millions of other people aged 40-50 it’s arguably the most influential album on me in terms of music and even as a person…Easy to bandy about terms like “landmark” “game changer” etc etc. I say name me a band since the Beatles that had such a sweeping impact on music and culture - there’s an argument for The Sex Pistols and a couple of others but this album came at the perfect time for me and our generation - Absolutely wonderful from start to finish and an easy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Prefer the way the other two albums sound, but still an awesome album.
I mean... it feels sacrilegious to write a review for this. No notes. Fav new track: N/A (but fav old track is prob Lithium for shouty-alongy-ness)
CLASSIC 5/5
This album is legendary and is as good now as it was when it first came out.
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ One of the best albums of all time. I don’t even like gunge music but this is undeniably fucking brilliant. Got it on the 30 year anniversary of its release.
Nothing to say
Absolute masterpiece. An album that defined an age and a generation. Favourite track: Lithium
Grunge at its finest. Bunch of hits, cool non-hits. Love it.
Always sends me back to my teen years, plopping my bootleg cassette in and hearing the opening bars to nevermind after a nice bit of static.
It's on here for a reason, and not just because the guy is suing about his baby dong being on the cover. I really enjoyed listening to this again.
I like all these pretty songs.
This was one I was waiting for. Any song off of this album could be the best song on the album. I liked everything about it, although the last song was a little strange.
The album of my adolescence. 30 stars.
Even Endless Nameless, a genuinely terrible song, can't prevent this from being an easy 5. One of my all time favorite albums, and I'll take the first 9 songs on Nevermind against the first 9 songs of any other album.
Grunge at its finest
Great
A welcome great album after a run of shit ones. Teen Spirit is overplayed but still worth a 5 for the sound and the songs
Nirvana. 4 megahits.
July 21, 2021 I haven't listened to this in forever and forgot how much I like it. First three tracks are amazing. This album rocks.
Hard not to give this a perfect 5/5. So many great songs and a few pretty good ones mixed in. RIP Kurt.
The album that defined a generation. How many bands would we not know because of this album? How many bands did we find because we wanted more like this. Yes there are better grunge albums. But this one was THE ONE. Stand out tracks: Come as you Are, Lithium, Something in the Way 4.5 but leaning towards 5
Likely my most listened to album; a younger me spent countless hours spinning this little aqua gem around the Panasonic Shockwave discman. This is grungey punk with pop hooks perfected. Every song on the albums serves a purpose; no skippers--all rippers! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
This album is famed for changing alternative music, and I can see why. Enjoyed this album from start to finish, it sounded well mixed, my only issue is I don't remember much about the last few tracks as they seemed less distinctive than the rest. Very torn between 4 and 5 stars, as I really enjoyed the album, but it isn't perfect. I'll probably round up from 4.5 here, as I preferred it to the albums I've given 4 stars to.
I realised I was listening to this reminiscing about university days, and even though this album came out quite a long while before I attended, it somehow became part of the soundtrack to those times after being introduced to Nirvana by a friend I met there. Fired this up and it took me back, being as great to listen to now as it was then. So yeah I'm probably slightly biased, but the last track notwithstanding which I never got on with (I'm gonna ignore that), it's a solid 5 for me.
The best of its kind
Like a nice cup of coffee, energetic, angsty, political, explosive
maybe I got too impatient and shouldn't give this a 5 idk but like, uh, its good.
Además, pensas que el disco no se puede poner mejor, y no. Come as you are (y ese solo de Kurt en guitarra tan "regalo inesperado"), Lithium, Breed, In Bloom, On a Plane, Polly, Drain You.
Arguably the best grunge album ever written.
Powerful. Nostalgic.
Claramente, Smell Like Teen Spirit es el tema más famoso del disco junto con Come as You Are. Vean Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck. Gran documental. 1000 de 10 ludomatics.
"I'm so happy, 'cos today I found my friends...
The definition of an instant classic. There isn't a single bad song on this album.
It's the most popular album from a popular music group changing the game and what was popular.
So raw and powerful - an absolute must listen. Some songs aren't as good, but most are incredible
I knew I was going to enjoy this one because I was familiar with the singles but what completely won me over was how punk and hardcore this album can get. There’s a ton of diversity here and I get why this record changed music seemingly overnight.
I love this album, super easy listening, my Dad used to blast Lithium and Drain You when he would clean the house when I was a kid, so it brings back happy memories. Even without the nostalgia, the actual songs are really good too, there isn't a song on here I don't like.
An amazing album from front to back and one of my go-to listening staples. Probably one of the greatest albums of all time.
Listened to this so much in my early teens when I was depressed as shit and I thought I was edgy lol. It's the first album we've had so far that I've already heard all the way through several times. It must've done so much for the genre and is one of the defining albums of the 90s culturally imo. And Dave Grohl on drums!! My favourite single is In Bloom and my favourite non-single is probably Drain You. But there's not a bad song on here.
Strong album as expected by one of the 90's pillars of grunge. 'Endless, Nameless' cracking end to the whole discourse of Nevermind. Forgot it was coming though and it blew my earphones off.
A classic
Love this album top 100
Easily a 5 for me. I was already obsessed with more than half of these songs bahahah
Everything about this album is great. Just no way around it.
Pocas veces daré cinco estrellas tan convencido.
It's been a looooong time since I listened to a Nirvana album in its entirety (the unplugged live recording probably being the exception). I used to really love Nirvana as a pre-teen and obviously my music tastes have changed again and again. Revisiting it so many years later I'm sort of surprised by how good this album really is. I don't think it's the nostalgia speaking, since the vast majority of music I liked as a teen makes me cringe now. It's just a really really good album, very well-rounded too. The only song I didn't like was the last one, which was originally omitted and then added as a hidden, final track. Omitting it was probably the right thing to do. But still a fantastic album overall.
Obviously a 5. One of my first ever albums and just so many ridiculous tunes. Actually also think this is one of my favourite albums of all time. 5/5
Classic
Almost shockingly good 90's rock. Totally enjoyable.
This album is landmark and stands up after 30 years. It came out the month I started high school and it still brings me back to 9th grade. There is a reason why it is legendary as the tunes are well crafted and the impact on music is still felt today.
Coincidentally today smells like teen spirit was playing on the radio on my drive back from work and Steve Wright said that the first time he played it on the radio he knew that “music had changed”. And it was never the same since. Another amazing album. I don’t think anyone will not score this five stars.
Excellent, as always. It's amazing the energy you get when listening to this album
It still fucking rocks. All classics except I don't much care for the last song.
absolute slap of an album. no bad songs on it and some absolute belters
classic
Absolutely amazing
Is there a better way to start a decade?
Historic Collison of pop culture with underground
Je lévite: come as you are !!
👏👏👏👏
without words - one of the best albums ever released
This album is a whole era in and out of itself. Never gets old. Back in the day I didn't pay much attention to it as it was everywhere and it wasn't underground enough for me (yeah, I was that teenager). However, by the time In Utero was released I had already embraced Nevermind and still love this album to this day. I listened to the remastered version for this review and really rocked to it.
No notes needed
Great album, could listen to it on replay for quite a while
Almost every song was a banger and I’d absolutely buy the vinyl
One of my all time favorites.
CLASSIC
*screams endlessly, namelessly* eh they're pretty good, this Nirvana group
Formative
This is an amazing album. So many great songs and contains some of my favourite Nirvana tracks("Lithium", "Smells like teen spirit", "Breed" and "in Bloom"). This is the epitome of what Grunge is. I also think it to be their best album(aside from the MTV unplugged versions).
oscillating bw a 4 and a 5. this album is no skip primarily in the beginning but overall each song needs to be studied and jammed to on their own. the songwriting is incredible and studying each song more would definitely feel more confident giving this album a 5. polly for example is such a smart and effective way to write about women’s experience with sexual abuse and shedding light on it through music; it's terrifying, and singing as the abuser produces such an eerie and uncomfortable effect and makes you hate the abuser and feel immense sympathy for "Polly". knowing how much kurt cobain championed women and women's autonomy provides more context, but this song as a whole is so well done. ending with something in the way closes out the album so well since it starts so "angry" and active, but ends calmer while still maintaining that angst and grunge.
Unreal how good this is
good shit
Historic favourite
I mean, obvs.
absolute bangers after bangers
Classic album.
I mean....
Great. Classic
Possibly the greatest album opener of all time. And doesn’t drop in quality much after that. Head banger
Killer album from front to back. Gets a little weaker later on in the album. Great lyrics, melodies. High 4.5
Aint nothing wrong with this
I mean cmon, it's Nevermind. Fucking great, perfect Punk music Come as you are and Territorial Pissings are my favorite songs. Catchy and hypnotic songs, perfect for any mood, I will forever love this album, just feels like a warm blanket. Thanks for the music Kurt, RIP. 8/8
Great album, almost every song is a banger
Well this is just a legendary album!
Good Music
Monumental album in rock.
I wish it were my first time listening to it so I can both listen to it more objectively and re-experience that all over again, but even trying to pretend I hadn't heard it before, it's very much still an album where every song is one I'd rate at least a 4 and where there are more than enough 5-stars to warrant an album-wide 5. I can't believe I missed the day this one was our album!
Iconic album
Nice
It's just hit after hit and even the songs that aren't radio singles are good. This album lives on the fuzzy, disallusioned edge of the punk movement and I love it for its sheer nihilistic angst.
only found out yesterday that the foo fighters guy was in nirvana but apparently its common knowledge. wild. good album, just kinda take everything i say abt in utero but instead of being really noisy and raw this albums a bit more polished. personally i like this one more just since i kinda think the production fits how catchy the songs can be a bit more. also it doesnt have scentless apprentice on it so thats an automatic plus. tired rn but very good album 9/10
12/7 Classic.
Classic
All time classic.
(Strong 8/10) "I've got Nirvana in my head, makes me wanna go fuck shit up" -Juliana Hatfield
The songs you know - absolute grunge staples. The rest - utter garbage. No wonder Foo Fighter albums are terrible on the whole.
Kurt Cobain embodies what a front man should be, The drums are ever present and they along with the other instruments are plated at the highest level and the care and respect is present through all these tracks, I didn't know they could make such good melodies and write such catchy choruses, I had only heard the darkest songs from them and I am thoroughly happy to hear that they can bring in softer elements even if it is not full songs, fleeting moments can still be good.
Epic grunge album one of the best ever
Overall a great album. Although Endless, Nameless left me with a bit of a bad aftertaste. I think I liked Lithium or Drain You the most.
It's a really good album that I enjoyed listening to and will enjoy again. I cannot see myself choosing to put it on though
Some good, some not so good tracks but overall i liked it. Fav tracks: „In bloom“ and „Come as you are“
Haha, you're giving me this shit after Courtney Love? Come on. Anyway, what else needs to be said about this album? Really good and also really overrated. And also really good, but still, a little too long and shockingly (to me, at least) anonymous in the grand scheme of things for much of the back half. But still really good.
Saved? ✅ Would listen again? ✅ Would recommend to anyone? ✅ Would buy on Vinyl? ✅
Just a classic entry in to the world of grunge. Hearing their slower ballads was definitely a unique experience
Classic. Drums high quality. Voice high quality. Guitar high quality. Though the more famous songs were the more energetic songs that showcased things better.
Living during this time was wild. Love it or hate it, Nirvana changed the whole music scene. I never really listened to them when they came out (or thereafter), and shamefully this is my first exposure to the full album. The first half was really enjoyable. The second half was okay but not my jam. (On A Plain sounded like a sped up version of Come As You Are.) Still, it's a cultural icon.
Ahhh what a classic
I haven't listened to this in 25+ years and was surprised how well I remembered it A very, very good album. Stay away is Nirvana's best song. Fight me
pica
Clássico, lendário
Album that defined my youth, but only the third best Album by Nirvana, imo. Totally overplayed, but great songs. Fav: Lithium
I'm a bit sick of hearing Nirvana everywhere, so I had to put that aside and actually listen to this with an open mind. I've never listened to Nevermind, but I obviously knew the most famous songs from here. Overall a really good album, but I'm not the biggest fan of grunge music. Maybe with a few more listens I'd rate this a 5 (I'd especially need to listen to the songs I didn't know a few more times). 4/5
Never really got into nirvana, pleasantly surprised
Listen out of order since Spotify licensing shenanigans
Gran disco de Nirvana. Nunca lo había escuchado completo.
A brilliant album.
Damn, I was hoping this was the one with Grandma Take Me Home on it...
Of the Nirvana albums, this is the best. It's both noisy and narrative, the songs are fun and dancey despite the grunge. Far superior to In Utero, in my honest opinion. Some true bangers within.
Beaut. Im surprised I never heard of Lounge Act or Stay Away before
it's good, i can very much sense why it's a classic, anyone who says otherwise is fucking stupid, tho i don't think it's necessarily for me at the end of the day, had a great time discovering it, will probably add a couple of songs to my playlists

RATING: 9/10 HIGHLIGHT: On a Plain LOWLIGHT: Stay Away
The first 3 songs were bangers, the last song didnt hit for me. Classic sound
Wow; this held up way better than I would have guessed. There are a couple standout tracks, but even the others are just good enough to keep the vibe going, and the record does not overstay its welcome.
classic
Favorite track(s): Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come as You Are, Breed, Something in the Way, Endless, Nameless Heard before Previous rating: 8/10
historic bombshell, I'm not a Nirvana fan, but great album
Wowweee
A tad bit overrated but a fine album nonetheless. Favorite track: Lithium
very frontloaded, some classics for sure. not the biggest fan of his voice, i think the repetitive lyrics dont help polly is a really freaky song. that sucks he was definitely lying when he said he didnt have a gun lol
Buen álbum, mejor banda.
3 boys in a band? Not writing about hot chicks? Totes gay I really wish that Something In The Way hadn't been used in Batman though, that is a beautiful song that shouldn't make me think about Batman
If I was 14 i would have a lauding review and give this a glowing 5. But as I’ve gotten older I’ve listened to a lot of the influences of this album and albums that have been influenced by it. Is it groundbreaking? In the mainstream music sphere yes. But there is much better to come from it and before it. Smells Like Teen Spirit, despite being the most popular song is probably the most dull and frankly boring song to listen to on this album. There are some tones that I’m shocked to hear on this album, Endless Nameless is a terrific noisy closer. Much of the most interesting sounding songs are those that weren’t singles. I also believe this to be the weakest Nirvana album, Bleach and In Utero are much rawer and abrasive albums that overall are much more interesting. It makes me wonder what they would’ve been up to if Kurt was still alive, Dave Grohl’s work in Foo Fighters shows he was not the creative force that created some of Nirvana’s harsher music, maybe they would’ve gone too alternative for the mainstream appeal they got from this album and sink back underground. Who knows.
To clarify a point I made on another review: I never said these guys weren’t talented. But after hearing more from bands like Mudhoney and Meat Puppets, it seems to me that they weren’t the ground breakers MTV wanted us to believe. They had better production than those other bands, for sure. I think the key is also that they came along at the right time, when someone in the music industry decided it was time to topple the popularity of “hair bands” which dominated up until then.
Definitely Maybe Oasis The Yes Album Yes Document R.E.M.
idk man his vocals just dont work on some of the tracks but when they do it hits sooo hard
A classic. Polly breaks my heart every time.
Rv
Great album , by one of the few legendary bands .
Este álbum de Nirvana es una joya
Get why popular not my favorite sounds l
For me, "Nevermind" is an album of two distinct halves. The first half is faultless, whereas the second does not quite live up to the impact or song-writing quality of the opening tracks. The opening salvo of 'Smells Like Teen Spirit', 'In Bloom', and 'Come as You Are' rivals any opening three tracks of any album, by any artist, for sheer impact. 'Breed' sustains this momentum with its visceral punk energy, followed by the "quiet-loud-quiet" moodiness of 'Lithium'. This run is rounded out by 'Polly', which lowers the tempo and quietens the mood without lowering the quality. These six tracks represent a varied stretch of excellence. However, the second half of the record struggles to maintain this standard. 'Territorial Pissings' offers plenty of punk attitude and angst, but it feels like a good track rather than a great one. The same applies to 'Drain You' and the subsequent numbers. While there isn't a bad song present, nothing quite matches the presence of those first six tracks. The major shift from their previous album, "Bleach", is the sonic quality of the production by Butch Vig. In particular, the drum sound and the debut performance of Dave Grohl elevate the material. Sonically, it is a full, huge-sounding record. "Nevermind" is a significant record that defined an era of alternative rock, primarily due to its incredible first half and powerful production. While the song-writing remains good throughout, the second half cannot sustain the ground-breaking quality of the opening six tracks, resulting in an album that feels somewhat front-heavy. Four stars. 1 "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (5/5) 2 "In Bloom" (5/5) 3 "Come as You Are" (5/5) 4 "Breed" (5/5) 5 "Lithium" (5/5) 6 "Polly" (5/5) 7 "Territorial Pissings" (3/5) 8 "Drain You" (3/5) 9 "Lounge Act" (3/5) 10 "Stay Away" (3/5) 11 "On a Plain" (4/5) 12 "Something in the Way" (4/5) 13 "Endless, Nameless" (3/5) Total - 53 Average - 4.08 340/1001 183/340 albums reviewed were new to me.
I’m not the biggest fan of Nirvana, or grunge more generally, but I understand why this album transcended a subculture to become a generational touchstone. For me, the strength of the album comes from the first five tracks (which are, I’m pretty sure, the most commercially successful) and my interest tapers off a bit after that, although the second half might be more representative of the group’s garage punk influences. But the collection of songs works well as a cohesive album, and I did enjoy the frenetic, noise-bending finale.
Kurt Cobain’s song writing is something I never appreciated until reading Dave Grohl’s autobiography. To my understanding Kurt was a real down to earth lover of the arts. The band he became the frontman for was a pioneer of change to a genre that was rapidly becoming stale. We need another Nirvana to come our way in 2026.
Yeah it's alright
A wide ranging classic. Great potential for misheard lyrics.
This album is held up as a monumental moment in music but going back to it I realised that I’d be okay never hearing half of these songs ever again. I was always more of a Pearl Jam or Soundgarden guy.
Never was into grunge despite being an impressionable 16 year old at the time. Obviously i knew the album but never really owned or had a desire to own it. I was quite surprised how polished it is and how many good songs there are on the album. I felt like it withered a little bit at the end despite my standout track being the second last song (something in the way). It gets a solid 4 stars
Classic with some bangers. Kind of hit or miss at times
No. 403/1001 Smells Like Teen Spirit 5/5 In Bloom 5/5 Come As You Are 5/5 Breed 4/5 Lithium 5/5 Polly 5/5 Territorial Pissings 4/5 Drain You 4/5 Lounge Act 5/5 Stay Away 4/5 On A Plain 5/5 Something In The Way 5/5 Endless, Nameless 1/5 Average: 4,38 Dark, hard, catchy. Awesome record. Would have loved to give this 5 stars, but the closing track just didn’t work for me.
Really good album that has never been fully Great to me. I don’t know why. In fact, I could say this about Nirvana in general. Don’t get me wrong, I admire them so much, I love what they represent and the changes they ushered in. I learned recently from an internet comment thread just how noticeable this album’s impact was on the ground, in schools etc. Really really cool. A must-listen, #348. But still, it’s just Really Good.
This one is already part of my rotation. If science achieves fission of the GOAT particle and is able to contain the energetic release of awe photons, so that it can be ascribed to multiple individuals without simultaneously leaving cool flash prints of their silhouettes on the laboratory walls, I feel Cobain would be entitled to 2 or 3 slices.
This has more of a nostalgia value to me, i remember listening to nirvana songs as a kid on one of those 2000's keyboard phones, putting the speaker close to my ears, cause i did not have headphones or nothing alike, and just enjoying the road as my mother drove us from town to town, i did not understand the lyrics but loved the energy, even if i dont feel the same about it today, it has a place in my good memories.
Re-listen. RYM: Y (#59) Saved a song: N
funny how this album starts to sound generic however this is literally the blueprint
I really liked this album, I’d give it a 9/10. Definitely would recommend it.
excelenttt
I can remember the first time I listened to this album. It's got a little bit of everything. Usually the first to come up when discussing Nirvana, and for good reason in my mind. Courtney love killed Kurt Cobain
Straight album, godd riffs and melodies
good album, a lot of classic tracks. but... it's that again. not their best imo.
Was not expecting that last song lmao
I immediately messaged my 1001 Albums groupmate to ask "what other albums do you know that start with the most successful track?". "Let's get it on" came the reply (great pluck). Nevermind wastes no time in giving disillusioned and angsty Generation Xs a pure and unrestrained set of anthems to serve as nostalgia for decades to come. To be clear, that wasn't me, all I have is memories of older kids at school waving their hair around and jumping into each other, some using it as an excuse for (playful but nonetheless actual) physical violence. Maybe this is why I shyed away from heavier rock during my formative years... Anyway, I do enjoy the classics from this album, I play(ed) the guitar and learned Smells Like Teen Spirit as a kid. There's no doubting how important this album was (is) to so many people, but it's too hard for me and stops just shy of a 5.
iconic, love the guitars
Nevermind is a great record that to me is a touch overrated. The top tracks (smells like teen spirit, lithium, come as you are) do most of the heavy lifting. The deeps cuts aren’t nearly as strong which separates the 4s from the 5s.
Solid Rock Álbum but it’s very clear why the hits are hits and the other songs seem to be a bit more forgettable except for Breed and on a plain
Nice album, with beautiful drums and guitar. Very good to listen while working out or cleaning a house, but also very exhausting for my mind.
Important album! Not a fan of grunge. I feel like I have to like this one.
yeah no shit this album is good. part of me wants to give this a bad review so i can be unique and contrarian, but unfortunately it’s so highly regarded for a reason. maybe not as raw as i would have liked, but the emotion on display here is obviously second to none. haha baby weenor
Melhores: Lounge Act, Polly , Something in the Way Pior: Endless, Nameless
The first half is banger after banger. The second half is “is he still screaming?”
too much has been written about this. Obviously a critical album in annals of music. But not a fun listen, not something I go back to frequently for inspiration or solace.
paar coole songs drauf.
I was around when grunge was becoming a thing but my mom didn’t like it. She said it sounds like they’re banging a bunch of trashcan lids together. So I was still mostly listening to classic rock. I was surprised by how many of these songs I knew and I like now. Lol. Lots of hits on this one album
this was pretty undeniably insane. not to be so self-important/cutesy but im giving this a 4 because my library of 5s is MY library of 5s; i felt the gravity and the impact of this album but i think that fifth star almost has to come by surprise
Me gustó.
always loved nirvana
These songs seem to improve with age. I wasn't a fan back in the day but listening today they sound pretty much spot on. Only criticism is I find the songs a bit samey as it goes on and I prefer the acoustic versions mostly.
I recognise a good album when I hear it. Besides, Nirvana reminds me so much about this guy I used to like.
Un 8. Bastante consistente
Ok i’ve done a relisten to this not in a car (apologies for not extending that courtesy to the kinks) and i think this isn’t really my genre generally but I love the ebbs and flows of this. Something in the way is so so good and while i think i prefer said ebbs i understand they wouldn’t be nearly as effective without the contrast.
They were really onto something here.
Sounds pretty good! Obviously a classic for a reason and those singles plus quite a few of the other songs have this great vitality to them (and many I recognised without knowing), but I don’t know if it reasonated or blew me away too much.
Very good album but not without its flaws - especially the last track "Endless, Nameless" . That song alone is why I knocked off one star - it should have never been included in the album.
I’ve been scared of the day I had to listen to this one because I was certain that I wouldn’t like it as everybody else does and it has such a high reputation. I knew I didn’t like grunge based on the other albums I’ve gotten, and I specifically did not like In Utero, so this album didn’t have a lot going for it. But man did it surprise me. Maybe until the last track, this album flew by and there’s a lot of standouts. I don’t think its a 5 for me quite yet, but it’s probably the best of its genre to me right now. It’s still too heavy for me, but I was still insanely impressed.
remember kids, if your friends start making bitchin' music and doing drugs they're probably gonna have a bad ending
something in the way
Great stuff - never really realized I haven’t listened to this in full ever
ah yes, the “FUCK YEAAHHHH” to “life is pain” pipeline
Armonically the same, but, for it's time really breaks the parameters of the 80s, also, lyrics well thought
Always been a fan. Most tracks are great but I understand my bias in rating. 1. Smells Like Teen Spirit 2. In Bloom 3. Come As You Are 4. Something In The Way
9/10
This is the first album to come up that was released during my lifetime AND that I was keenly aware of. I became a fan of alternative music in the late 80s, when artists like the Smiths, The Cure, REM and the Replacements dominated the alternative airwaves. Then in 1991 everything changed -- Nevermind was a watershed musical event. This is the first time I listened to the album all the way through in years. It had become so ubiquitous that I listened to it less on my own so that I wouldn't get tired of it (it was the same with Pearl Jam ten) But upon listening, I am taken back by just how good it sounds. Cobains guitar and vocals are as strong as I remember. And though Dave Grohl has spent more time as the front man of the Foo Fighters, I can appreciate just what a fine drummer he is in this recording. I wish I could give this 4 1/2 stars -- though Nevermind isn't quite a top tier album for me, it comes very close.
As well-loved a project as any that I somehow hadn’t gotten around to listening to until now. I can’t speak as much as others to it’s impact but the sound and quality of every instrument and the vocals are clearly top drawer. Incredibly energy on top of it all makes this one I’m excited to spend more time with and I expect it to only grow for me. 2 listens Favorite Tracks: Breed, Come As You Are, Smells Like Teen Spirit, In Bloom
#1 5th April 2026 One of the few albums I heard that exposed me to rock (I'm not typically a rock listener, and young gen), and this album could be considered overrated/overplayed but there's reasons. track mentions: drain you smells like teen spirit (naturally, classic, and the most played), in bloom (guys the guitar round 3mins), polly (caught from the beginning) stay away (the beginning, the stay awaaaaayy!!, the screaming at the end yes) come as you are something in the way (the vocals, the mumbling in the beginning)
An undeniably excellent tone, one of those bands that inspired so many others. Krist Novoselic does simple bass parts that do exactly what the song needs of them. The front half of the album is pretty stacked. "In Bloom" and "Lithium" are probably my favourites; "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is a song I like but not one I love, hard to say why because it's undeniably good. Polly and onwards I didn't find captured me so much, save for maybe "Something In The Way". The wall of tone thing they have going on shines in "Territorial Pissings" so honorable mention there.
Solid songs on here. Grunge with a very heavy punk influence to them. Cant really listen to teen spirit anymore cuz ive heard it so many times but that doesn't stop me wanting to listen to this album again. While Kurt wasnt the most technical of players he was a top tier songwriter and player.
Such a classic. Great, dirty, dissonant guitar tones. Territorial Pissings stands head and shoulders above the rest for me, but lots of good songs here (obv. Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are, Something In The way). I always enjoy a bit of Dave Grohl drumming too, he definitely has it. I enjoy Kurt's screechy vocal moments (again referring particularly to Territorial Pissings), songs that tend towards a bit more quiet I find I don't appreciate as much as a consequence of this (Polly). Endless, Nameless is so violent and punky, great way to finish off the album - I enjoy songs like this that are just indulgently abrasive. I don't know necessarily that I'd have most of this album in regular rotation hence it isn't realistically a 5, but it's still an incredible album, particularly for its time which helped push alternative guitar music after a decade full of new wave and synthy pop (which I do like! It’s just fun to see the currents of music come and go).
One of the first few albums I ever listened through start to finish. Remember it being better but still a few bangers on it. RIP Kurt
This had enough hits that it was an enjoyable listen but I didn't find it to be a slam dunk or anything crazy like that
I remember most songs from when my brother would play this album. I think this is their best work. I thought Endless, Nameless was worthless though.
Pretty much a two-note album but damn those were really good notes.
baby with a penis
I'll always say that I believe Nirvana legacy as a band out shines their output. But then you listen to this and realise it was one of THE great rock albums. 9/10.
Game changer
Everybody knows the iconic songs from this one. After that it unfortunately sounds very similar through the middle. Descends into chaos on the last track, which I’m sure some like alot, not me personally.
Great album but not my taste
Listened front to back dozens of times throughout my life, every middle school boy's first discovery of letting out their inner rage towards society. Lots of headbangers and songs to scream with in the car. Helpful for road rage. Similar to the Beatles, simple people can think they're overrated, but at the end of the day, they're great. The older I get, the more I appreciate the back half of the album; the front half of the album everyone on earth knows and you've heard it 1000s of times.
I lived it man
ts tuff asf twin
I listened to this album on repeat throughout the course of seventh grade and it was a bit difficult for me to go through now (idk if because it's so incredibly overplayed or because it's something to do with the period in which I was obsessed with this album&band.) I would come back from school and ON MY WAY (not even bloody waiting to get home) would listen to some songs off the album (I mostly remember it being Drain You) out loud. It was a great time, but it's just kind of over. This album and band were revolutionary for me and probably are the ones that got me in to rock and music in general. And I'm forever thankful for that. Do I think this is a good album? Yes. Do I think it's incredibly overrated and overplayed? Absolutely. But something to with the sentimentality connected to it makes it closer to my heart, as should. I think it's a canon event to "discover" Nirvana in middle school. Maybe because of that, I find this band and die-hard Nirvana fans to be a bit childish. Would I be happy if songs off this album would be played on the radio? Not really, not as much as I would at like 11 or 12.
More music from my youth.
Nirvana, and by extension Nevermind, was the last cultural musical phenomenon that graced this Earth (unless someone nukes the entire internet grid and we go back to TV and radio). Younger generations will never know the meteoric scale this album shook the world, even 10 years after its release when it was still the talk of the town, and TV channels still rolled Smells Like Teen Spirit or In Bloom. The entire album can be categorized as a mainstream side A, which was pop rock and power pop infused with poppy punk rock, and a more "gratata" side B with energetic and "less" commercial moves. It's Dave Grohl who gels togeter this entire thing, he's a madman on the drums who compliments the noise Kurt produces with precision and ferocity. There's an argument to be made that Nevermind is not what Nirvana is, nor what grunge is, really, but no one can deny how great this one is, from start to finish.
Ay qué dilema. Un disco clásico, por lo menos 3 himnos... Pero salvó esas canciones el resto mmm
First half of the album is wall to wall bangers. Loses a bit of steam though, I didn’t care much for “Territorial Pissings”. The next four tracks are decent but maybe a bit uninteresting, it’s kinda just more of the same. Luckily we get some variety with the fantastically melancholic “Something in the Way”. The closer “Endless, Nameless” is perhaps overlong but I think does a great job of being chaotic and wild and noisy, without going so far as to become unmusical; I enjoyed it a lot.
I’ve already listened to this album, very good record though not nearly my favourite Nirvana album, I like the more unpolished sound on ‘In Utero’. To me this album almost feels too “clean” at times compared to their later work, but it holds up exceptionally well, and it’s easy to see why it’s a favourite album for many people. Most of the songs have great hooks too, so easy to come back to this one. Come as you are might be a top 5 song of theirs. I do think this album is a *tad* bit overrated but can’t really complain given how influential and impactful this album was.
Turns out I know the start of this album very well and the latter half basically not at all.
Nirvana isn’t my favorite grunge band and this isn’t my favorite album from them. That said, this has really held up well. I remember when this dropped and thinking how brand new it sounded.
Solid!
