John Cale
3/5
Middle of the road. Not boring, but doesn't really stand out either.

Pink Floyd

Shine On You Crazy Diamond is a very nice journey. The rest is good too, but I understand my dad's frustration about Wish You Were Here outranking Shine On You Crazy Diamond in the annual Top 2000 we listen to. It's just on a different level.

The Mars Volta
4/5
I was not expecting that type of percussion in progressive rock. It's kinda groovy. I thought some sections were a bit long and some messy, but overall it was interesting.

John Zorn... I was dreading this day.
My dad has made me listen to John Zorn before. He's a Jazz collector and buying John Zorn was the biggest regret of his collection because the store didn't allow people to listen beforehand.
The majority of this album sounds like they were trying to speedrun recording an album, but not in a fun way. Everyone sounds like they need a chill pill. Well, maybe not the bassist. I can barely hear him over the absolute squealing saxophones.
Admittedly, there are some listenable parts, but it's not enough to lift this above a 1. I almost hate the saxophone now.

Michael Jackson
5/5
Solid album. Most songs are well known for a good reason. It gets a bit repetitive at times, but overall most of the songs are bangers. I'd buy it if I came across it in a cd store.
Radiohead
4/5
Quite accessible Radiohead album. Myxomatosis is the oddest track with that rhythm, but it's cool when you get into it.
Little Richard
4/5
Definitely an influential album. The songs are a bit short, but that's common for that time and I don't feel anything is missing. Overall it's a fun album.
Stevie Wonder
4/5
Not a fan of the spoken word parts, but at least they're short. Overall very good though. Love the synth on Living For The City.
I always found the chorus of Golden Lady a bit weak, but the rest of the song is really lovely.
Al Green
3/5
His vocal style is a bit too talky sometimes for my tastes. The title track is great, but not many other songs stand out to me.
AC/DC
3/5
Love the guitarwork on Beating Around the Bush. Sounds inspired by Oh Well by Fleetwood Mac.
Groovy bass on Love Hungry Man
John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers
2/5
Best part was Ray Charles
Cocteau Twins
4/5
Never heard of them before, but that was lovely. I definitely want to hear more of this.
Neil Young
1/5
I think he had some good ideas, but the execution is just bad... Most of the vocals were dreadful. The instrumentation is fine though.
Les Rythmes Digitales
4/5
Started good, but was hard to get into the rhythm of Soft Machine. Continued good again, but From: Disco To: Disco is really hard to get through. I get he was trying to push the boundaries of music, but I thought those vocals were unpleasant to the ear. The rest was good. I didn't even mind the drill sounds.
Peter Gabriel
3/5
Some interesting instrument choices, but not my favourite of his work
Nick Drake
3/5
Calming album. I really enjoyed Man In A Shed
Nick Drake
4/5
Love the contrast between his voice and the sax. Very lovely album
Eurythmics
2/5
Most of the songs are not my cup of tea. They're not bad. They just don't really do anything for me. Love Is A Stranger is pretty good though. Solid catchy chorus.
The main synth riff of Sweet Dreams is brilliant, but the timbre of it always ruined it for me.
My least favourite is definitely Somebody Told Me. It's quite lacking in melody.
This City Never Sleeps is a decent vibe.
Le Tigre
2/5
Not really into the vocals sometimes. I can do without the spoken word.
Other than that, it's alright.
R.E.M.
3/5
Very nice sound. I like that the guitar leaves a lot of room for the bass. The guitar itself is also lovely.
Julian Cope
3/5
For this project I only listen to original tracklistings.
Safesurfer is really cool.
This album has some varied moods. I wasn't expecting that when it started.
Primal Scream
3/5
This album has some odd parts, but it's kind of a vibe
Blur
2/5
Many odd choices. I really enjoyed Badhead.
I dig Clover Over Dover. This Is A Low is good too.
The 13th Floor Elevators
2/5
Not a lot of variety. It was almost like listening to the same song 10 times in a row.
The Auteurs
4/5
Definitely sounds like something I'd have in my collection
Led Zeppelin
3/5
The Lemon Song is fun.
Thank You is lovely.
I think the Moby Dick drum solo is too long.
Depeche Mode
4/5
I've always loved Enjoy The Silence. It's like this otherworldly song to me. The rest is quite good too. They're very good at creating an atmosphere.
Can
2/5
Aumgn is like a bad trip and so is Peking O, but at least that one has a part that is listenable. The rest of the album is alright.
The Specials
3/5
That was pretty fun
Buena Vista Social Club
3/5
Decent variety. Some songs are danceable and others kinda sleepy
Joni Mitchell
3/5
She has an interesting voice.
John Coltrane
3/5
I'd definitely listen again for the sax and the piano. I felt the drums were a bit too chaotic for me too often. I'm also just not really into drum solos. The bass solo was a welcome change after the chaos though. Part IV felt disjointed dispite being more calm.
Lightning Bolt
1/5
Their bio says "bridging the worlds of technical playing and noise chaos"
Unfortunately I hate noise chaos and the emphasis is very much on that.
The most listenable track is Wonderful Rainbow, because not a lot happens there...
Thelonious Monk
3/5
Pretty good, though pretty sleepy for a large part. Bemsha Swing is catchy
Todd Rundgren
3/5
It has some really good songs, but also a lot of weird ones. I guess it evens out as about average.
Taylor Swift
3/5
I like Taylor Swift taking a more folky direction. Long Story Short was my favourite. The drums kick it up a notch, breaking away from the mood of the songs before. Closure felt a bit disjointed though.
Run-D.M.C.
2/5
Not really my genre. The rapping is too monotone for my tastes. The beats are alright though.
Charles Mingus
2/5
Some nice parts, but the chaotic parts are too long.
Don McLean
4/5
American Pie and Vincent on one album? Yes, please
This was very lovely. He is quite the wordsmith and the melodies are beautiful. The only criticism I can think of is that some of the songs sound more like less good Vincents and less like their own thing.
Japan
3/5
Pretty good. It just doesn't really grab me in a special way.
R.E.M.
4/5
Good hits and the rest doesn't fall behind too much. Pretty solid
Coldplay
4/5
An album I have! I always really loved Clocks, The Scientist and In My Place. Some of the other songs had to grow on me a bit, but overall it's really solid. Love the volume dynamics in A Whisper. This was a great era for Coldplay
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
3/5
I really enjoyed the intros. It's too bad the focus was taken off the lovely guitarwork after they started singing, because that was my favourite part.
The Isley Brothers
4/5
I forgot about Highways of My Life... Great song. Always loved That Lady and Summer Breeze. Especially Summer Breeze...
I love their synths and electric guitar. Their lead singer has a very smooth way of singing. Very nice
Manic Street Preachers
4/5
The Manic Street Preachers have such a great sound. Great voice and great guitars. I also appreciate them having a message in their songs.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
Atmospherically it's very good. I'm just not a fan of the spoken word parts. I prefer more melodic vocals. Leviathan also kinda drags on in my opinion because the lyrics are quite repetitive.. Unrelated: the cover art is very pretty and fits well with the feel of the album.
Paul Simon
5/5
Yes! I have this one and I feel everyone should!
Lovely guitar work, vocal melodies and harmonies. I feel most of the songs are on the same high level
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
3/5
Their biggest strength is definitely their harmonies. I wish they'd utilise it a bit more.
Stevie Wonder
4/5
Smooth transition from Superstition to Big Brother. Good album but not as good as Innervisions. The hits were definitely the best songs
Suzanne Vega
3/5
Cracking is too spoken word to me. Marlene On The Wall is very good. Neighborhood Girls has a very cool instrumental. Too bad a lot of the vocals are quite talky.
Daft Punk
3/5
Oops, I was expecting Discovery. Homework is not on Discovery's level.
Around The World is great. It's got a really good groove.
I'm not a fan of Rollin' and Scratchin' nor Rock'n Roll. I really dislike that scratching sound.
David Bowie
3/5
It took a bit to get into the title track and he didn't let me down since.
Joni Mitchell
4/5
Very nice album overall. I'm just not a fan of the spoken word she does sometimes. Thankfully for me it's not too much. I thought the harmonica didn't fit Furry Sings The Blues. I thought Song For Sharon drags on a bit. I love the addition of Jaco Pastorius on this album. The timbre of his bass is so cool.
Sufjan Stevens
4/5
Wow, I really liked that! Some songs were surprisingly vibrant and I loved it!
His voice is really easy on the ears. The instruments take you places
Green Day
4/5
I have this one. I always really liked the hits. I think it's overall quite solid. I'm just not really a fan of the "Nobody likes you" part that comes up a few times.
They have a good sound.
Goldfrapp
4/5
That was really lovely. Just too bad about the vocal compression on the first song.
Slade
2/5
Not a fan of his vocals. On some songs the vocals are also recorded really badly. Also, what's with the terribly spelled titles? I guess they thought it would be funny.
Alice In Chains
2/5
Not really my guitar style. Too much distortion, I guess. Makes it harder to make the melody shine. Some parts were nice, but I don't see myself seeking this album out again any time soon.
The Slits
2/5
The bass is decent. The other instruments are really weak for the most part. The vocals sound like they weren't trying at all
Ute Lemper
2/5
The instrumentation is good for the most part. Her vocals are overdramatic too often. I quite liked Passionate Fight. The last song is a real drag though.
ZZ Top
3/5
They have a good sound
Neil Young
2/5
It has a few good songs. The rest is kinda boring
U2
3/5
The hits and Surrender are very good. The rest is good, but less special.
Q-Tip
2/5
I'm not the biggest fan of rapping. It's just usually too monotone for my tastes. I think his rap style is about average. The rest is fine for the most part.
Aerosmith
3/5
I was expecting over the top singing. Glad that didn't happen until the last song.
Dion
2/5
A bit boring. I liked New York City Song though. My least favourite was definitely (He's Got) The Whole World in His Hands. That was recorded badly and boring on top.
Gang Starr
3/5
The high pitched sound in "Who's Gonna Take The Weight?" is annoying. Other than that, the samples were good. The rapping is about average. Still not my genre.
The Strokes
4/5
Very catchy! Steady rhythms, very enjoyable guitar and bass sound. My favourites are Hard to Explain and Last Nite.
Beatles
3/5
I love Eleanor Rigby, Here There And Everywhere & For No One. Most of the other songs are alright. I can hear the potential of Got To Get You Into My Life. Too bad they didn't do more with it. Tomorrow Never Knows is too chaotic for my tastes
John Cale
3/5
Middle of the road. Not boring, but doesn't really stand out either.
ZZ Top
3/5
Fun groovy sound
B.B. King
3/5
Favourite track: Every Day I Have The Blues. I liked that it's a bit jazzy as well.
I could do without story time
Scritti Politti
3/5
That was alright. Upbeat.
Peter Gabriel
4/5
Not a fan of Excuse Me. The rest was good. I've always loved Solsbury Hill. I love the guitar work and the nostalgia inducing horns.
I wasn't sure I liked Humdrum when it started, but it got beautiful. I liked everything after that. I definitely want to listen to this again.
Elastica
3/5
She has a pleasant voice. Some catchy guitarwork
A Tribe Called Quest
2/5
Some good samples. Some not used well at all. Rapping a bit above average. Still not my genre
Abdullah Ibrahim
2/5
Too sleepy for my tastes. I enjoyed the first song though
The Sonics
3/5
Quite fun, but too bad the sound quality on most songs is pretty bad. I like the energy of the main vocalist
Van Morrison
3/5
Decent album
The Waterboys
3/5
I sure love a folky violin
The Divine Comedy
4/5
I like the brass and his dramatic voice
Brian Eno
3/5
It's fine for what it is. Not my favourite ambient album.
AC/DC
3/5
It's AC/DC. Pretty fun, but not very special to me
Supergrass
3/5
I really liked the riffs in Sun Hits The Sky (both guitar and synth). I don't like the grunts in the last song Sometimes I Make You Sad. The rest of the album is pretty good. It has some nice riffs.
The Byrds
4/5
Lovely harmonies and I enjoy the guitar work as well
Yes
4/5
The guitarwork is the best part in my opinion. Sometimes it gives me this medieval feel and I love that. I thought the rhythm changed a bit too often in Perpetual Change (though that was probably the point) but the second half of the song was really good.
Leonard Cohen
3/5
I don't usually listen to this type of singing style because it's almost spoken word, but there's something about Leonard Cohen that I respect. I always found Suzanne a beautiful song. Part of it is the lyrics
Missy Elliott
3/5
Izzy Izzy Ah might be the worst song on the album. That was annoying.
The best song was Best Friends.
Overall, the beats and the singing were good. Best hip hop album so far
The Kinks
3/5
That was cute
Elton John
4/5
Decent variety of moods. Very good opener. I tend to like British artists and he plays the piano. Of course I was going to like this
Rod Stewart
3/5
I'm not a fan of his raspy voice, but the songs are quite good. Never heard the full intro to Maggie May before. It's really lovely
The Icarus Line
2/5
I was unable to listen to Virgin Velcro and Seasick because they're not available in my country on Spotify or Youtube, but I trust the reviews that they're more of the same. I'd hate to leave the project unfinished.
Anyway, a lot of distortion. I think there were some good parts, but most didn't mesh well for me. Most was not catchy or interesting.
Fela Kuti
3/5
I like the inclusion of the organ. I don't hear that a lot in African music. This album is a vibe
Todd Rundgren
4/5
I can do without Intro, but at least it's only about a minute. I thought I Went To The Mirror was a bit too mumbly. I thought Little Red Lights is messy, but the guitar solo in the middle is cool. The rest is very good. Why hadn't I heard of this guy before this project?
Carpenters
3/5
I think their biggest strength is Karen Carpenter's voice. It's very smooth. It's too bad it's sometimes drowned out by the "backing" vocals.
The last song had a very cool outro.
Heaven 17
4/5
Started very funky! Later less so, but I like it
The Cure
3/5
I bought this album for A Forest. Most of the album are pretty good, but I think A Reflection, Three and The Final Sound are a bunch of nothing.
The Temptations
4/5
Papa Is A Rollin' Stone is a timeless classic. I'm not used to hearing The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face sung by a man. It's not bad, but I prefer it from a woman. Overall it's a quite good album.
The Shamen
3/5
I thought it was pretty good, but started going downhill after the 9th song. Well mainly Hear Me (mumbling), 666 Edit (annoying breaks) and make it Minimal (annoying sounds). The others after that are good, but basically different versions of other songs on the album, so shouldn't weigh too heavily.
Various Artists
3/5
What a nice Christmas surprise! That was very cute
Bob Marley & The Wailers
3/5
This version of Stir It Up feels kinda slow. I guess slow is alright for reggae. "Alright" sums up my feelings about this album.
Otis Redding
3/5
Otis Redding has an unmistakable style. It's good, but I tend to prefer the versions of songs I know by other artists, so that tells me I don't really love it. Or I'm easily jarred
Alice Cooper
3/5
Love the piano on My Stars. The last 2 songs are a bit odd. Pretty fun album
Tori Amos
4/5
I love piano based music. There's also some lovely harmonies. I just wasn't a fan of the last 2 songs. Me and a Gun would have benefitted from some instrumentation, I think.
1/5
There's maybe 2 listenable tracks. Sounds like they prefer playing with machine parts over playing instruments.
The Stooges
3/5
Iggy has some good energy. The songs are alright
Pretenders
3/5
Chrissy Hynde's vocals are a bit talky sometimes. I'm not really a fan of that. There's some solid tracks though.
The Pretty Things
3/5
My favourite part was from Private Sorrow to Death.
I like that most songs have unexpected outros.
Isaac Hayes
3/5
Love the hammond organ on Walk On By.
Too bad the first half of By The Time I Get To Phoenix was spoken word.
Iron Butterfly
4/5
Love the guitars and organ. I personally don't really care for drum solos
The Fall
3/5
Some catchy riffs. I don't love the vocals, but I feel they're not the main focus, so it's alright. Actually, the vocals are kinda funny sometimes
Sabu
3/5
The middle of the album sounds like a drum circle, which would be more fun if you were participating, I think. The rest is nice. I especially liked Rhapsodia Del Maravilloso and Tribilin Cantore
Nine Inch Nails
2/5
Too much distortion on a lot of the songs for my tastes.
The outro of Ruiner is pretty cool.
The best songs are Closer and Hurt.
JAY Z
2/5
There were some good samples. Too bad he rapped all over it. It's like he has one tone of voice and nothing else
Bonnie "Prince" Billy
3/5
This is fine. Maybe some songs are a bit too slow, but it fits the mood I think he's going for.
Air
4/5
I've been really into atmospheric music lately, so this works. It's also very cool with that bass
The Replacements
3/5
I like their sound and energy. I thought they lost it a bit in the middle of the album though. Quite a raw singing style. Not always my thing. Interesting choice to have the drums kick in so late in Answering Machine.
Pet Shop Boys
4/5
I'm familiar with the Pet Shop Boys, but I hadn't heard any of these songs before. Solid album
Leftfield
3/5
I thought it was okay, but it's missing something to be danceable.
Nirvana
2/5
Some good riffs, some barely listenable songs and most songs give that feeling of "Hey, is that that one song?... oh... It's not"
Not a good sign
Harry Nilsson
3/5
This was pretty fun
Echo And The Bunnymen
3/5
Some good riffs. Interesting vocalist
The Avalanches
4/5
Some parts were a bit weird and that one piano dissonant, but most of it was really cool
Red Hot Chili Peppers
3/5
Not usually a fan of the rapping, but Give It Away is pretty fun. Under The Bridge is great of course. I feel for most of the songs they hadn't really grown into their style yet, if that makes sense. Not my favourite of their work. Low end 3
Led Zeppelin
3/5
That folkiness was fun. I didn't expect the banjo
Ramblin' Jack Elliott
3/5
Kinda rambly, kinda funny, kinda charming
Joy Division
3/5
The album art is more iconic than the music. The music is fine. It just doesn't really stand out to me
The Doors
4/5
Cool blues rock album. Love the keys too
KISS
3/5
Detroid Rock City is a banger. I didn't really care for Great Expectations or Beth. Do You Love Me is too repetitive.
Michael Kiwanuka
5/5
Every song is solid. The album flows well and has a good variety of moods and styles. There's very few things I would change (like how muted the backing vocals sound on You Ain't The Problem). I'm excited to relisten to this!
George Michael
3/5
I forgot how nice Kissing A Fool is.
I'm not a fan of the lyrics of Father Figure and I Want Your Sex. Especially the latter could have been more subtle. But other than that they don't sound bad at all.
Good vocal dynamics to fit the songs. I especially like the airy vocals.
Some songs are kinda silly sounding.
Shack
3/5
I really like the instrumental compositions for the most part. I'm not sure why, but I'm not feeling the vocals. Maybe it's the mixing on some of the tracks.
Dwight Yoakam
3/5
I enjoyed the fiddle and the accordion
Crosby, Stills & Nash
4/5
Beautiful harmonies. The best songs are Suite: Judy Blue Eyes and Guinnevere
Blue Cheer
2/5
I think they're pretty good at their core, but there's quite a few messy parts that drag it down to a 2.
3/5
The coolest part was in the hardest to find song: Gut Feeling / (Slap Your Mammy). Some parts weren't for me (Jocko Homo for example), but most of it was alright
The Doors
4/5
Man, I love the Hammond organ
Sarah Vaughan
3/5
Some songs are a bit too sleepy. Others are lovely. That was a very cute rendition of How High The Moon. Great performances!
Big Star
4/5
There's 8 versions of this album, so I hope they didn't change the tracks themselves and I'm listening to the "right" versions. I went for the original track listing.
Downs is the only real bummer of the album. I love the inclusion of the violin on this album. I can see myself revisiting this
The Jesus And Mary Chain
2/5
There's some catchy tunes here. Too bad they ruin it with distortion.
Nick Drake
4/5
It's impressive what kind of soundscape can be created by one man and a guitar (and a bit of piano). Beautiful
Alice Cooper
3/5
Some fun songs, some kinda weird songs
Lucinda Williams
4/5
That was pretty cool. I didn't love all of the harmonies, but most of it was good. My favourite stretch was from Can't Let Go to Metal Firecracker.
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
Some great songs and some great memories, eventhough it was before my time. Love the harmonies and the epic drum in The Boxer. Cecilia makes me want to clap and dance
The Only Ones
3/5
The low energy vocals sound kinda funny. Especially on some of the more upbeat songs like Creature Of Doom. I quite like their guitar and bass sound
Queens of the Stone Age
3/5
One of the better heavy rock sounds. Some parts are kinda weird though
The Smiths
4/5
I quite like their sound. I feel Morrissey has only one type of singing, but the instruments brought a good variety. There were some interesting choices in instruments used sometimes like a marimba.
Cream
3/5
Some of the songs are kinda boring. Others are pretty good.
The Byrds
3/5
I guess I prefer folk Byrds over country Byrds. Not as many harmonizations, which is their biggest strength. Most songs sound too similar.
Simple Minds
4/5
Very cool sound. I especially like their bass.
Duke Ellington
3/5
It's good that they switched up the upbeat tracks with the slower ones. I really enjoyed the upbeat ones.
Orange Juice
4/5
That was really refreshing! Quite cheerful and sometimes took a surprising turn. I especially enjoyed the transition from Mud In Your Eyes into Turn Away.
The Monks
3/5
That's some good energy. A bit messy sometimes. I'm not a fan of the spoken word vocals. The yodeling was fun though.
The Allman Brothers Band
3/5
Decent album. My favourites were the longer tracks, but at the same time I felt they were dragging on sometimes.
Carole King
4/5
Very good. The best songs are It's Too Late and Tapestry. I just didn't think her singing style suited the chorus of (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman. But maybe I'm just spoiled by Aretha
Pink Floyd
4/5
Shine On You Crazy Diamond is a very nice journey. The rest is good too, but I understand my dad's frustration about Wish You Were Here outranking Shine On You Crazy Diamond in the annual Top 2000 we listen to. It's just on a different level.
Jimi Hendrix
3/5
I sometimes like backwards instruments, but I thought it sounds choppy here. It's good to experiment though. We all know Jimi Hendrix was an excellent guitar player, but the songs weren't. They're fine.
Miles Davis
3/5
Some parts are really good, like the main motif of So What and All Blues, but I found myself losing interest during some solos.
The Who
3/5
Second half was best half
Stan Getz
4/5
If I had to choose a favourite jazz genre it would probably be bossa nova. It's such a good vibe.
Morrissey
3/5
I was not expecting vocal flips from Morrissey. I kinda like it
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
I was not expecting the synth on Save the Life of My Child. The backing vocals were also a bit odd.
Voices of Old People... Why is this on an album?
The rest is absolutely lovely
Kelela
4/5
She has a very pleasant voice. The way she harmonizes with herself is silk smooth. Everytime I thought there was a moment where I wasn't really feeling it, the album took a turn to make it good again.
Elvis Presley
3/5
Elvis had a very iconic timbre of voice, but he just wasn't as fun as Little Richard
Talking Heads
3/5
Not a lot of variety, I feel. Their style is good, but not good enough to lift the album above a 3
Siouxsie And The Banshees
3/5
I guess this is mostly included because it was influential. It has some catchy parts, but mostly doesn't really stand out to me.
Tom Waits
2/5
I've never been a fan of Tom Waits' vocals. This album I found out he can sound "normal", so apparently he chooses ultra rasp. Also, most of the time when he doesn't use a raspy style, he does spoken word, which is also not my cup of tea.
Instrumentally I think it's a decent album for the most part. I quite enjoyed Rainbird.
Eminem
2/5
Most samples are quite good. Not the high pitched noise on Just Don't Give A Fuck.
His rapping is like rambling
The Rolling Stones
3/5
It has some nice riffs, but it's not outstanding.
Jane's Addiction
3/5
Three Days was really cool with the shifting tempo. Dispite the title, Of Course was quite unexpected. Very cool violin. I didn't really feel most of the rest of the album. They have some good energy though.
Echo And The Bunnymen
4/5
That was pretty catchy
Beatles
5/5
Oh, man. When I was rating these songs for my own album collection project, I had to sit next to the cd player for most of the second half of the album. That is how smooth the transitions are.
I hate the chorus to Carry That Weight, but it's the only part of the album I really don't like. I'd say the biggest highlights are Here Comes The Sun, Something and I Want You (She's So Heavy)
The Stooges
2/5
Why is We Will Fall 10 minutes long? That's almost a 3rd of the album. It contributes to making the album kinda boring...
At least there were some wah wahs. That was fun.
DJ Shadow
3/5
Some good tracks like Changeling, Midnight In A Perfect World for the most part and What Does Your Soul Look Like pt 1. Also some odd choices, like a sound that reminds me of Chewbacca. The drums are sometimes too busy for my tastes.
The Verve
3/5
Only a few songs I wasn't feeling, including the hidden track, which is kind of a shame because it was a long wait. Overall, a pretty good album
The Temptations
4/5
Such a good group. Not my favourite version of I Heard It Through The Grapevine, but it fits their style.
I was not expecting to hear a grown man cry for his mommy. Maybe they should have let a child do that.
Kanye West
3/5
The weak applause at the end of the album just about sums up my feelings, which is a lot more than I was expecting. Most of the samples are good and there's quite a lot of good singing. Of course there's also Kanye and guests rapping, which was really not for me and damn, I was not prepared for Kanye singing. I guess I get why he chooses to rap.
Leonard Cohen
3/5
Nice instrumentation. I'm not really a fan of spoken word, but I could think of it as a poetry recital. It does fit
Creedence Clearwater Revival
3/5
I felt the longer songs drag on a bit. Other than that, it's good
The Smashing Pumpkins
4/5
Good variety of styles. Some cool riffs. I always found Billy Corgan's vocal style kind of interesting especially when he goes from strained (if that's the right word) to a soft voice. It kinda tugs at the heartstrings
Dire Straits
3/5
Damn, I knew 2/3 of the songs and I don't even go out of my way to listen to Dire Straits. I always find them instrumentally really good, but I'm not a fan of Mark Knopfler's vocal style. Thankfully there were a few songs that aren't very vocally rich. I'd say the best song is Your Latest Trick.
Guided By Voices
2/5
Sounds like they shouldn't have left the garage. One of the band members even fell asleep while recording
Billy Joel
4/5
Very nice. I'd say my favourite is Just The Way You Are for the beautiful piano and later the sax coming in.
Deep Purple
4/5
Definitely some cool moments here. I felt the drum solo was way too long though.
Christine and the Queens
4/5
That was a vibe. I like her voice and the synths
Sigur Rós
3/5
I liked most of Starálfur. Hjartað hamast has a good intro and the part leading up to the outro was nice too. Viðrar vel til loftárása was really nice instrumentally until that outro took a turn. I'm really not a fan of the vocals and some parts are boring, but there's still a good amount I like.
Common
2/5
Definitely some good samples. Loving the jazz elements. Not a fan of his rapping. The best songs were Geto Heaven Part Two and A Song For Assata. I was hoping the features artists would lift the album above a 2, but it wasn't enough. I was disappointed by how they treated Jill Scott's vocals, because I quite like her.
Jorge Ben Jor
4/5
Love the style. I could have done without the shouty parts, but it wasn't a lot, so it's alright
The Cars
4/5
I didn't really care for the first few songs. They're a bit repetitive.
I feel the synth throughout the album really helped.
Damn, the last 3 songs are jams
Nas
2/5
Some good samples, though sometimes it doesn't really go anywhere. The rapping ranges from terrible to above average. Not enough on the higher end.
Slayer
1/5
This sounds like being loud for the sake of being loud. Sometimes there's a bit of guitar sound that's nice, but they usually don't play a compelling melody. The singing is also basically one note.
Koffi Olomide
3/5
That was fun, but I don't think it really stands out from your average African music.
Radiohead
4/5
I'm one of those losers who sometimes buys Best Of/Greatest Hits compilation albums and sometimes I wonder if I'm missing out by not buying the albums (one of the reasons I'm doing this project). I have the Radiohead: Best Of album, but I don't have that strong feeling that I missed out. It is overall definitely a high quality album though.
Tim Buckley
4/5
I like his voice
Shivkumar Sharma
3/5
Relaxing
Gotan Project
4/5
Refreshing mix of styles
Funkadelic
3/5
They really dropped the ball with Wars of Armageddon. I was about to give 4 stars until then.
Marianne Faithfull
2/5
I wasn't feeling it. I'm not a fan of her vocals. I'm not sure if it's her voice or singing style. Maybe it's both
Scissor Sisters
4/5
Catchy and fun
David Bowie
3/5
I really like the second half of the title track. The first half feels a bit monotone, but I don't mind it as much the second time around because it transitions quite smoothly. I liked the last song best (I Can't Give Everything Away)
Johnny Cash
3/5
He chose a lot of great songs. He didn't necessarily improve them, but it's a nice listen.
The Mars Volta
4/5
I was not expecting that type of percussion in progressive rock. It's kinda groovy. I thought some sections were a bit long and some messy, but overall it was interesting.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
4/5
It started kinda jarring, but I got into it. Good mix of styles and rhythms.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
Love the inclusion of the mandolins on this album. Also great guitar work.
The Adverts
3/5
They have some good energy. Not very difficult or varied, but it's fun.
Iron Maiden
4/5
Very good! Love the double lead guitar.
Frank Zappa
4/5
I was expecting a lot less accessible. Sure, there were some weird parts, but overall that was a jam!
Amy Winehouse
4/5
I used to dislike her voice, but I got used to it. I think she took jazz in a good direction; a good mix of modern and retro.
Coldcut
3/5
A bit of a nightmare to get the original tracklisting together. Anyway there were some bangers but also some tracks that made me scratch my head. I guess it averages out to a 3.
Suede
3/5
I quite liked The Power and The 2 Of Us.
It took me a bit to get into it.
Eminem
2/5
I'm not his demographic
Hole
3/5
I like it. It's catchy. But I feel around the middle of the album it loses me because it could be more dynamic.
Prince
3/5
Some good songs, but it felt like most was filler. There's also some cheesy sounds.
Muddy Waters
3/5
I like the enthousiasm of the band. It gets repetitive at times though.
Emmylou Harris
3/5
I like her voice
Sonic Youth
2/5
There's definitely potential here. I quite like the guitar work and bass, but the female vocals are not for me. The male vocals are fine. There's too much distortion for my taste though, so unfortunately it drops to a 2.
Teenage Fanclub
3/5
I quite liked this album. I'm just not a fan of the distortion used in the first 2 songs. Thankfully Satan is short. My favourite was "Is This Music?"
Dusty Springfield
3/5
I forgot about Twenty-Four Hours From Tulsa. I like it.
Spunky version of Will You Love Me Tomorrow
3/5
Some good songs, but some I don't get at all.
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
I think I prefer Bridge Over Troubled Water and Bookends, but this is still great. I always love their harmonies.
Jimi Hendrix
3/5
I didn't like the intro or some of the more psychadelic sounds, but there's also some good songs. Some groovy drumming and Jimi Hendrix' guitar. Little Wing is too short though.
Butthole Surfers
1/5
I think this is only on the list so if someone is doing a project like this, they can say "I listened to Butthole Surfers"
Leonard Cohen
3/5
I quite like Famous Blue Raincoat. Never knew that was the title, so that's a win. I appreciate that most of his vocals are sung rather than spoken word. I still think he's a better song writer than singer though.
Curtis Mayfield
3/5
I like the funky parts. His vocal style can get a bit tiring after a while though.
The White Stripes
3/5
They have a pretty good sound, but don't really do anything interesting.
Sex Pistols
3/5
Good energy
Lou Reed
2/5
I wasn't really feeling it to start from, but halfway through it got sleep inducing. The crying kid was the final nail in the coffin. (I guess I take back my comment on Cloud Nine by The Temptations)
Okay, Sad Song is actually pretty good, but he could have done more with the chorus.
Blondie
4/5
Charming melodies and sometimes there's a really nice guitar sound like on Just Go Away
Jah Wobble's Invaders Of The Heart
3/5
The style fusions are quite hit or miss.
The female vocals are nice.
Slipknot
1/5
There's actually some decent singing here, but the vast majority is grunting and then there's rapping. Way too monotone and I got really tired of it at the end of the album.
Instrumentally it's like their only scope is being loud. No interesting melody to be found. And then there's the obnoxious sounds on Tattered & Torn...
Kanye West
1/5
Wow, those are the most obnoxious samples I've ever heard on a hiphop album. And then there's Kanye West to top it off.
Aretha Franklin
4/5
Everyone knows Aretha can belt. I'd like to shout out her lower softer voice, which is also very nice. Good well-rounded singer
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
4/5
Prog rock with organs and synths is almost an instant win
Bad Company
3/5
I liked the inclusion of keys on some of the tracks. For a supergroup they didn't really stand out to me though. Not bad, but they didn't grab my attention.
Dolly Parton
3/5
I liked Traveling Man and A Better Place To Live. Kinda neutral about the rest.
Eric Clapton
3/5
Highlights: Let It Grow and Mainline Florida
Boston
5/5
The first time I listened to this album was on the day I signed up for this project. I remember liking it, but not really getting what everyone was raving about. Now I'm the one raving about the vocals (the harmonies!), the guitars, the organ... Epic!
Pink Floyd
3/5
Some great songs, others were not for me (especially towards the end of the album)
4/5
I have this one. It has some iconic songs like Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds and A Day In The Life. I quite like She's Leaving Home and When I'm Sixty Four as well. I think it's an odd choice not to end with the reprise, but I guess it was to fake us out with that weird outro of A Day In The Life.
Black Flag
2/5
Good energy, but I felt it didn't have a lot of variety and I got a bit tired of it towards the end.
Black Sabbath
3/5
I liked the guitar solo in Warning. The rest is alright.
The Mamas & The Papas
4/5
I'm a sucker for harmonies
Deee-Lite
3/5
Strange volume mixing. Groove Is In The Heart was so much louder than the rest.
Tortoise
5/5
This might be my coolest find in this project. Djed on it's own is already a complete journey and they just keep going. It gives me that rare sense of wonder.
Deerhunter
3/5
Some parts were a bit boring. Other parts were really lovely. That evens out to about average.
ABBA
4/5
Catchy, catchy, catchy
The title track was a nice surprise
The Everly Brothers
3/5
It's cute, but everything is sung with about the same intonation. I think I'd like it more with a bit more variety on that front.
Pere Ubu
1/5
That singer is already a struggle to listen to and then they do stuff like "Thriller!", "Blow Daddy-O" and "Codex". Those really ruined their chance to stay above 1 star.
Arcade Fire
4/5
Not the sound I was expecting. I guess I might have confused them with a different band from around that era. I really enjoyed it though. I can see myself seeking this out again. During Rococo I turned the volume up and didn't bring it down for the rest of the album.
Einstürzende Neubauten
1/5
Why?
Madness
4/5
Fun
Jurassic 5
3/5
Above average rapping, in my opinion. I didn't mind it for the most part.
Pixies
3/5
My dad played Gigantic to Where Is My Mind? occasionally while I was growing up. Where Is My Mind? is definitely great. Overall they have a great sound, but sometimes a bit weird and I feel the occasional talking holds it back.
Ice Cube
2/5
The beats and samples are alright, but Ice Cube sounds about the same throughout the whole album. Also, why so many skits?
Jimmy Smith
4/5
That was nice. Love his organ and the sax was nice too
Bob Dylan
2/5
Bob Dylan has written some great songs (Mr. Tambourine Man; It's All Over Now, Baby Blue). I just don't think he's the best performer.
When "It's Alright, Ma" started playing, I could have sworn I had already heard it on this album. That's how similar Bob Dylan's songs sound. Also, that song is just too long.
The Chemical Brothers
2/5
Lost In The K Hole and Where Do I Begin had some nice moments, but unfortunately there were more moments I didn't like.
The Soft Boys
3/5
The bass on Insanely Jealous of You is fun. Decent album
Love
4/5
Very cool. Good variety. Love (heh) the intro and outro of Revelation. The vocalist is a bit much there though. I didn't even mind the drum solo.
Booker T. & The MG's
4/5
That was fun
UB40
3/5
The music is fine, but it's all the same vibe
Super Furry Animals
4/5
That's quite a mix of styles. Some parts I didn't like, but a lot more that I did enjoy
Stevie Wonder
5/5
Other than a few blips (and that's just parts. not entire songs), this is really great. There's some absolute classics and most of the songs that were new for me, are bangers as well.
Deep Purple
5/5
Groovy!
Spiritualized
3/5
It started great, but some parts were a bit too experimental for my tastes.
2Pac
3/5
One of the better rappers. Good use of samples and singers. I felt it fell off a bit at the end of the album though (last few songs).
Metallica
4/5
Very cool, but a bit long. It's also a little unfair for a rating project to have albums with songs from other albums, but the orchestra adds a lot.
Kendrick Lamar
2/5
Good samples. He uses a ridiculous voice half the time and his rapping is exhausting half the time. When they're just talking, I tune out.
David Bowie
3/5
I like Where Are We Now? I thought this album was fine, but not a must hear.
De La Soul
3/5
I don't like everything, but it's quite decent. They use good samples and their flow is good for the most part. I can do without the skits though. The best song was Eye Know.
Dagmar Krause
2/5
Sounds like it would be good as a soundtrack for a movie. Not one I want to see though.
Bee Gees
2/5
Not their best work. I was kind of bored.
Jack White
3/5
It's alright. I appreciate the variation in instruments. Not crazy about the female vocals.
The Notorious B.I.G.
2/5
Good samples, but not a lot of singing. I thought the rapping was about average.
Rappers and their fucking skits...
Kings of Leon
3/5
I like their style on most songs, but their singer gets on my nerves. I didn't really like Milk and Rememo. The best one was probably Velvet Snow.
Scott Walker
4/5
Dramatic style. I quite liked it. The only part I wasn't a fan of is the echo sounding vocals in a few songs. That was kind of distracting.
Wilco
2/5
This was kind of a downer. I did like Heavy Metal Drummer and Pot Kettle Black though.
Common
3/5
Some songs have some real nice samples and instrumentation, like the intro, Real People and It's Your World. I don't even mind John Legend while I usually find him a try-hard.
Paul Weller
4/5
That was really good. My favourite tracks are Has My Fire Really Gone Out? Shadow Of The Sun & Wild Wood
Yes
4/5
A few moments that made me think "Hmm... That was weird", other than that it's just really good. I liked how Mood For A Day contrasts with the rest.
Bob Dylan
3/5
The best songs were It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry, Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues and Desolation Row. Though the last one is a bit long.
Fugees
2/5
Lauryn Hill is a good singer. I wish she did more of it.
4/5
I always found Poison Arrow a weird song, but maybe it's just jarring on the radio. It fits well here. This is a banger of an album.
The Beach Boys
4/5
Love their harmonies! The best moment was probably when they sang the melody of the brass from the intro of God Only Knows.
Beck
3/5
I was expecting weird (possibly in a good way), which this wasn't. It was nice. The vibe doesn't change a lot though. I feel that holds it back.
Eagles
3/5
Earlybird is fun
fIREHOSE
4/5
Sometimes a little messy, but overall just a vibe. I especially enjoyed their bass.
Lynyrd Skynyrd
3/5
It's alright. Free Bird kinda drags on. At least it changes around the halfway mark.
David Bowie
3/5
The most different Bowie album I've heard so far. Very atmospheric, but I feel there's something missing to really draw me in.
Destiny's Child
2/5
The best songs were at the end of the album, except for the outro. Independent Women Pt II and Happy Face were pretty bad. I don't care for the diss tracks either.
The Police
4/5
I really liked this album, but Mother was a real bummer.
Kraftwerk
4/5
Well done soundscaping. The titles fit
Air
4/5
Too bad about the spoken word. Otherwise very good atmospheric album.
Tom Waits
1/5
I think Downtown Train has potential, but Tom Waits might by my least favourite singer ever. I think his vocals are agonising on the entire album. Unfortunately some of the instrumentals are also agonising.
Cat Stevens
3/5
Cat Stevens is one of those artists I like, but just don't love.
The Young Rascals
4/5
Some great songs here. How Can I Be Sure, I Don't Love You Anymore and It's Love are my favourites.
Barry Adamson
3/5
Not something I see myself revisiting, but I gotta appreciate it for conveying scenes with just sound.
King Crimson
4/5
I often see a lot of praise for King Crimson, but this was my first time listening to them. Most of it wasn't what I expected, but it's quite nice. I can do without the second half of Moonchild though (The Illusion). That's a bit too experimental for my tastes.
Oasis
2/5
Never got the hype for Oasis. What a whiny way of singing.
The Sabres Of Paradise
3/5
I'm not a fan of the canned sound in the beginning, but the album got better. The tracks that stand out most are Wilmot and the title track.
Guns N' Roses
4/5
Sweet Child O' Mine is great. Slash is a legend.
The other hits are fun. Axl Rose's vocals are something you have to be in the mood for to enjoy because they're quite silly. Very memorable.
I can do without the moaning.
Adele
4/5
There's a few songs I don't care for, but more songs that I think are great. Rolling in the Deep was huge and rightfully so. It really packs a punch
The Doors
4/5
Roadhouse Blues sounds familiar. The rest was new to me. I enjoyed it!
My favourites are Peace Frog, Blue Sunday, Queen of the Highway and Indian Summer.
N.E.R.D
3/5
I was expecting worse. The instrumentation is nice for the most part. It's not very rap heavy. I'm just always on the fence about whether I like Pharrell Williams' voice. At least there's not a lot of falsetto.
Elton John
4/5
I felt some songs were trying to be another Tiny Dancer, but I really liked Holiday Inn and All The Nasties.
Tears For Fears
5/5
I have a Best Of compilation album by Tears For Fears and it might as well have been filled with this album (save for a few songs that would be missing). This album should be in my collection.
Jamiroquai
4/5
Jamiroquai is always a vibe. My favourites aren't here though.
Manic Street Preachers
5/5
I love their sound. Great singer. Catchy melodies. Great guitar sound. I don't think I've ever heard a bad song by Manic Street Preachers. I should buy more of their albums, including this one.
Prince
4/5
I love the transition from I Would Die 4 U to Baby I'm a Star. I Would Die 4 U is probably my favourite Prince song. it's not very melodic, but somehow it just hits.
Prince can be a bit much as a performer, but overall I thought it was good. Good fun energy and ending on an emotional note.
Nirvana
3/5
Good selection of songs. Sometimes it's a bit samey, but I guess that's the risk when going unplugged. I enjoyed the inclusion of the accordeon.
The best song was The Man Who Sold The World. That's just a great song.
Sly & The Family Stone
3/5
Funk is fun. Sex Machine ranges from weird to groovy.
Joan Armatrading
4/5
Lovely album. Tall In The Saddle was my favourite.
Soft Machine
3/5
I wasn't a fan of the first track: Facelift. I was expecting to give a 1 or 2 star rating, but the others were a lot better. I especially enjoyed Out-Bloody-Rageous.
Pavement
2/5
Some parts were really not for me. Others were nice, but not groundbreaking
Rocket From The Crypt
3/5
Misbeaten was cute.
Steely Dan
4/5
I don't think I had heard Aja in full before, but it sounds like an absolute classic.
The Birthday Party
1/5
I was glad when it was over. That should say enough.
CHIC
4/5
Chic is great, though sometimes they get a bit repetitive.
The Band
3/5
The Weight is great. I like the intro of Chest Fever. Overall I thought it was alright. Not great.
Leonard Cohen
3/5
The jaw harp amused me. There's also some lovely guitar and banjo work
Jimi Hendrix
4/5
The best songs are at the end of the album. There's some cool guitarwork scattered through this album.
Cee Lo Green
2/5
I didn't know Cee-Lo Green rapped this much. I was trying not to listen to Hip-Hop right now. Oh well.
Some decent songs, but also some terrible ones (Childz Play and Scrap Metal for example), in my opinion.
Joni Mitchell
4/5
My favourite of her work so far. Those last few songs were spunky!
Amy Winehouse
4/5
Good blend of older and newer styles. My favourite would be Tears Dry On Their Own. I didn't used to like her very much. It turned out I had to get used to her voice. It's quite distinct.
White Denim
5/5
Damn, I loved that! Never heard of them before, but I want more of this!
Elliott Smith
3/5
It's alright. It gets a bit repetitive at times.
Manu Chao
4/5
This fits this hot weather today. Some transitions were very smooth. Others not so much.
Cocteau Twins
4/5
Cocteau Twins is lovely. I love the contrast between the dark atmosphere and the high vocals.
Pixies
4/5
I dig the guitar and the bass.
Beastie Boys
3/5
I like their rock approach. Their rap is very in-your-face, which can be annoying. I'm feeling generous though.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
4/5
Some classics here. I didn't know I knew "Waiting in Vain". I guess I had never caught the title. Good song though. When Bob Marley sings the phrase "Three little birds", it drives me up the wall though. I just don't get that timing.
The Pogues
5/5
Ah, here's the reminder that I need more Irish folk music in my life
Queen
3/5
Not my favourite work of Queen. Ogre Battle sure was something.
4/5
That was cool
Van Halen
4/5
Hmmm... I remember Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love sounding cooler than I just heard. Anyway, overall it's fun and energetic. I'd put it on again.
Frank Ocean
3/5
Some good sngs here, but also quite a bit of filler. The best songs are Sweet Life and Lost.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
3/5
That was not bad. Relaxed sound with a bit of eletric guitar.
David Bowie
3/5
It's fine. Not really special to me.
Grizzly Bear
4/5
This is really lovely music, but the first time I heard one of these songs was on Youtube and someone posted a major spoiler in the comments of a series I hadn't finished watching. Fuck that person and anyone who posts spoilers in random places.
Still really lovely music on this album.
The Clash
4/5
That's some good energy
Christina Aguilera
3/5
I can do without the circus music and the talking. Other than that it was an okay album. Maybe a bit long. The best song was Without You.
Alexander 'Skip' Spence
2/5
I kinda liked Cripple Creek, but other than that this album sure is a 'skip'.
Dusty Springfield
4/5
Smooth voice and lovely songs
Dr. Dre
2/5
The high pitched sounds can be a bit annoying. The rapping was above average for the most part. I don't like the sketches. The best song was Lil' Ghetto Boy.
Neil Young
3/5
I still don't like this voice very much, but the harmonies largely make up for that.
Radiohead
4/5
I've heard about half the album before. Some great songs here like Paranoid Android, Karma Police, No Surprises and Lucky. Subterranean Homesick Alien was new to me and I really enjoyed it. I can do without Fitter Happier.
4/5
I have this one. It's not my favourite of their albums, but still very good. I feel it's actually let down a bit by some of the hits... Supermassive Blackhole has this dirtiness, especially when Matt really gasps out the title. I know Knights of Cydonia is super epic and popular, but I'm always let down by the vocals in the second half of the song. The melody is too simple, in my opinion.
My favourites are Starlight, Soldier's Poem and Invincible.
Dirty Projectors
2/5
It sounded like everyone was trying to show off and forgot to listen to each other.
Mudhoney
2/5
It kept toeing the line between 2 and 3 stars. It didn't end up winning me over.
Lloyd Cole And The Commotions
3/5
This was nice. I don't think I'd call it essential listening, but I did enjoy it.
Beatles
3/5
Not quite as adventurous as the later Beatles. Not bad at all though. My favourite is And I Love Her.
4/5
Pretty cool. I got Plok vibes at some point and I liked the synth.
Sonic Youth
2/5
Some decent guitar and bass work here, but I don't care for the vocals or about 2/3 of the songs.
3/5
I only like Wonderwall. This album was a bit less whiny than the other Oasis album though, so I guess I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. There are some decent melodies.
Little Simz
1/5
Some songs sound like straight up rants. What an annoying rapper.
I didn't care for most of the samples/instrumentation.
There is some decent singing, but not enough to make a difference.
Flowers was definitely the best song. Must be because Michael Kiwanuka is on it.
Faith No More
3/5
I'd like Epic more if the chorus was longer. Surprise! You're Dead! was weird. Zombie Eaters was probably my favourite, followed by Woodpecker From Mars.
Norah Jones
3/5
Norah Jones has a nice voice. The album gets a bit boring at times though, but it's mostly because the mood doesn't change a lot.
The Rolling Stones
2/5
That was so unremarkable, I would have believed it if someone told me it was their debut.
Taylor Swift
3/5
Kind of average pop music. She has a nice voice, but almost the entire first half of the album had quite large parts that were just monotone. Disappointing. I hope for the swifties that she had better synths on Taylor's Version. I felt they didn't fit with her voice.
The best songs were Blank Space and Clean.
Goldie
4/5
This was cool. There were few moments that I didn't like very much. My favourites were the title track and State of Mind.
Ray Charles
3/5
Ray Charles is great, but I was hoping for more bangers. The ballads were nice, but felt a bit samey.
Cypress Hill
2/5
Short loops
Paul McCartney and Wings
4/5
I enjoyed it. Good vibes
Adam & The Ants
4/5
Good energy. That was fun
The Band
3/5
The best songs were The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down and Up On Cripple Creek
Buddy Holly & The Crickets
3/5
Short and sweet. This is cute.
Joy Division
4/5
Cool drum patterns in Atrocity Exhibition and Heart and Soul. Some songs have about the same feel as The Cure sometimes has. I enjoy that.
David Bowie
4/5
Funky Bowie! I didn't like his version of Across The Universe though. It's strangely aggressive.
Justice
3/5
I remember D.A.N.C.E. from when this album came out. I'm not a fan of the heavy distortion sometimes used on this album. Other than that it's sometimes kinda weird, but mostly cool.
Massive Attack
3/5
They have some good things going. I like the drums and synths. I'm not really a fan of the rap, but it could have been a lot worse. I prefer this album over Mezzanine. Unfinished Sympathy is an incredible song.
Soft Cell
3/5
Weird at times, but also nice at times. I've always liked their version of Tainted Love. Say Hello, Wave Goodbye was a good one as well.
The Killers
4/5
Some real anthems here. Why does Everything Will Be Alright sound so compressed though?
The Louvin Brothers
3/5
Nice harmonies, but I felt they didn't put emotion in.
The Cardigans
3/5
I have this one and I remember being a bit disappointed when I first listened to it. I was expecting rock, so the style was quite unexpected, but it's not a bad listen at all. It has some lovely melodies.
The Dave Brubeck Quartet
4/5
Some parts kinda drone along, but the main parts are really cool. I knew about 3 of them because I have a Jazz loving dad, which is kind of a blessing.
Small Faces
3/5
Some decent music here, but quite a bit of talking. I came for music. Not for an audio-book.
Big Star
4/5
My favourites were Thirteen, The India Song and Watch The Sunrise. Good band!
Van Morrison
4/5
Wild Children and Listen To The Lion are lovely. Domino and Gloria are bangers. He has a good live band and he brings the right energy!
Supergrass
4/5
Steady rhythms. I really got into it at She's So Loose.
Donald Fagen
5/5
I already knew I.G.Y, New Frontier and The Nightfly. They are great. Most of the rest is great too!
Björk
3/5
I love her early work, but hadn't heard this album before. I like that there were a lot of strings. I didn't like the harmonies on Lionsong very much. I loved the contrast between Björk's voice and Anohni's. My favourite song was Stonemilker.
OutKast
2/5
I wish there was more singing. I kinda liked B.O.B. though. I has a good rhythm.
George Michael
4/5
George Michael's sound matured quite a bit compared to Faith. I'm also impressed by how the longest songs really don't feel long. Cowboys and Angels is gorgeous. Something to Save is also beautiful.
Dr. Octagon
2/5
I don't care for this at all.
N.W.A.
2/5
Decent beats. About average rapping. I'd like it more if there was some singing. I'm not fond of the lyrical content. I Ain't Tha 1 and Dopeman were the worst songs.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
I didn't realise Bad Moon Rising was so short. It's one of the more enjoyable oldies I used to play in a band. The rest of the album is also enjoyable.
Dire Straits
3/5
Dire Straits is my number one pick for bands I would like if they had a different singer or vocal style.
Iggy Pop
3/5
I didn't know David Bowie and Iggy Pop wrote Tonight together and that this was the original. That's pretty cool. Overall it's an enjoyable album, though not very outstanding. I enjoyed it more than his work with the Stooges that I have heard so far.
Bob Dylan
4/5
Best Bob Dylan album so far. He put some real effort in singing. The guitar work is lovely.
LTJ Bukem
4/5
Danny's Song was my favourite. Long album, but good background music.
Caetano Veloso
4/5
I really started to get into it at Alegria, Alegria.
Earth, Wind & Fire
4/5
Weird outros on All About Love and See The Light. Banger of an album though.
R.E.M.
4/5
Good sound
Klaxons
3/5
I didn't like Atlantis To Interzone very much because it had annoying sounds. Very rough sound on Four Horsemen of 2012 as well. Most of the other songs were quite good. Golden Skans sounds familiar.
Skunk Anansie
4/5
My brother has this album. I hadn't heard it in a long time. It's better than I remembered. Skin has a great voice!
The Who
4/5
Sometimes I ponder reusing melodies. Is it lazy? In the end it doesn't matter if it's lazy or not if it has a function. I feel here it pulls the soundtrack together and applies different moods. It works.
Def Leppard
3/5
Every time they sing together, it sounds really washed out. Not a very Excitable album. The title track was my favourite.
The Offspring
4/5
Some real good energy. Kinda shouty, but it fits the style. Come Out and Play was one of my favourites, so that was a nice hidden track.
Throbbing Gristle
1/5
The first 3 songs and Walls of Sound are very unpleasant. Thankfully United is only 16 seconds long.
Dead on Arrival started out listenable and kept getting worse. Weeping is mostly boring.
Are we getting some actual music on AB/7A? I liked that.
Blood on the Floor sounds like a song, but it's like I'm 2 rooms away from where the music is playing.
The rest is mostly talking with some sounds, which I really don't care for.
Not the worst, but still a bad album.
Blur
4/5
Best Blur album I've heard so far. Most songs are quite good. Most of the experimental things worked out well.
Wu-Tang Clan
2/5
The beats are fine. I'm not into the rap. It's quite aggressive at times.
Mike Ladd
3/5
Instrumentally it's pretty cool for the most part. There's still quite a lot of rap I'm not into though. To the Moon's Contractor was the best track.
Curtis Mayfield
4/5
He has a great band. Most of these songs are great. I forgot about Freddie's Dead.
Baaba Maal
4/5
This is a good time. There was just one moment where I felt that the percussion that was just coming in, was out of place.
The Mothers Of Invention
2/5
Most of this album sounds like bad radio jingles. How stoned were they?
Johnny Cash
3/5
I feel I would appreciate it so much more if I had been there.
New Order
5/5
Damn, this is full of bangers! I thought I only knew Blue Monday, but Love Vigilantes sounds familiar
Bruce Springsteen
3/5
I never really got the appeal. The songs aren't very special. Some are boring even. I do like Dancing In The Dark though. Inoffensive though.
Sonic Youth
2/5
Even if I ignore the speaking and distortion, the songs are decent at best.
Stevie Wonder
4/5
Not as funky as some of his other work, but still very good.
ABBA
4/5
I forgot about Head Over Heels. I like it. Shout out to Soldiers and Slipping Through My Fingers.
ABBA's melodies sometimes give this nostalgic feeling, while some song are a little cheesy.
Jeff Buckley
5/5
Damn, he used his voice well. I've loved the title track since I first heard it about 5 years ago. I got some new favourites in Dream Brother, Mojo Pin, Last Goodbye and Lover, You Should've Come Over. Damn, that's half the album. I love the moody atmosphere, the guitars and those organs.
Bob Dylan
3/5
There's some good songs, but he's also a bit rambly for my taste sometimes.
Lambchop
3/5
I'm not a fan of the singer, especially his falsetto and when it's almost spoken word. I enjoy the instrumentation though. It's quite nice.
k.d. lang
4/5
What a lovely voice. My favourite song was Miss Chatelaine.
Nina Simone
2/5
I've never been a fan of her voice. Boring album.
Johnny Cash
2/5
Oof, the mic quality on Wanted Man...
Again, this would be more fun if I were in the audience.
Mott The Hoople
4/5
It got a bit messy in the middle, but other than that, I quite enjoyed that. My favourites were All the Way from Memphis and Ballad of Mott The Hoople.
Nitin Sawhney
4/5
Not a fan of Pilgrim. I love Tides. This is one of the more interesting drum & bass albums I've heard so far.
Eagles
3/5
Hotel California is one of the most overplayed songs ever, in my opinion. It is well written though. I always found something a bit lame about New Kid In Town. Not a fan of The Last Resort. I think the melody is a bit too predictable. The rest is decent.
PJ Harvey
3/5
I want to like this, but I don't quite connect. Maybe it needs more listens.
Radiohead
3/5
My favourite songs were Pyramid Song, Knives Out & Dollars and Cents. I didn't really get into Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors. I couldn't understand what Thom York was singing on You And Whose Army & I Might Be Wrong. I don't generally find lyrics super important, but I feel it may have helped here. Life In a Glasshouse has a weird vibe.
The Teardrop Explodes
4/5
Quite a cheerful vibe
Elbow
4/5
I have this album. I don't play it a lot, but it's really lovely.
Alanis Morissette
5/5
Landmark album of my early teenage years. My dad had it. My brother got a copy from my uncle. I got it too. Alanis Morissette is the reason I wanted to become a singer-songwriter.
Roxy Music
3/5
That was weird. I guess I prefer their hits.
Hot Chip
4/5
Most of that was fun. My favourite was Now There Is Nothing.
Night And Day sounded familiar.
The Young Gods
2/5
The most listenable industrial album I've heard so far. I still don't like it very much, but it could be a lot worse.
John Lee Hooker
3/5
The best song was The Healer. I really liked Cuttin' Out as well.
Serge Gainsbourg
1/5
Instrumentally it's alright. I don't appreciate the spoken word and I'm uncomfortable dispite not understanding French.
Metallica
3/5
They have some real good guitar solos. The best songs are One and To Live Is To Die.
Femi Kuti
5/5
That was great! They were jamming so hard, Femi didn't start singing until about 3 minutes in on almost every song. I love a good build-up.
1/5
Songhoy Blues
4/5
Love the guitar work.
Bob Dylan
4/5
I love the instrumentation, though it's a bit predictable at times with some of the more standard blues songs like Leopard-Skin Pill Hat. Vocal-wise I feel he's putting effort into singing, though it's a bit uncontrolled. I always quite liked I Want You. Fourth Time Around is a new favourite. I also think it's pretty cool that I can hear his influence on other bands/musicians.
Thundercat
4/5
Lovely instrumentation. The harmonies really helped to offset the silliness. Most songs are just so short.
Elvis Costello
3/5
That was fine. My favourite was probably I'm Not Angry.
Portishead
2/5
I normally like moody music, but this one wasn't for me. They used some really annoying sounds on We Carry On, Machine Gun and Magic Doors for example.
Roni Size
3/5
Not enough variation to be this long.
Ali Farka Touré
3/5
It's nice, but I feel the songs don't really go anywhere.
Joan Baez
3/5
Lovely voice, but the volume dynamics were a bit much.
Steely Dan
4/5
Nice! The best songs were Reelin' In The Years and Turn That Heartbeat Over Again.
Janelle Monáe
4/5
Great flow from Suite II Overture to Locked Inside. This album has a lot of great songs, but some songs are a bit weird. The weirdest one was Neon Gumbo, but at least that one is short.
There's 7 stand-out songs. Hard to pick a favourite.
Isaac Hayes
4/5
I don't think every title fits, but I've never seen the movie, so I might just be wrong. Bangers though.
Khaled
4/5
Not sure how I feel about this version of Imagine. I didn't like Derwiche Tourneur very much, but the rest of the album is quite solid. Good mix of styles.
The White Stripes
2/5
I like My Doorbell, but that doesn't mean the album needs multiple songs with the same piano rhythm and this is coming from someone who loves piano rock.
Multiple songs sound like they got inspired by classics, but failed to do anything interesting with it.
Overall, this was quite boring.
Sisters Of Mercy
3/5
My favourites were 1959 and This Corrosion.
Jeru The Damaja
3/5
The rapping is about average; maybe a bit better. The beats were okay
Supertramp
4/5
School is a great song and I especially love the piano solo. The build-up to it makes it pack a punch.
I thought it was very interesting to have the lead vocalists alternate like that. It's quite refreshing.
Nico
3/5
Unusual singing voice. I think it fits the mood of the album though. The instrumentation is quite nice. The only song I didn't like was It Was A Pleasure Then. Unfortunately it's also the longest song on the album.
The Beta Band
3/5
My favourite was Space Beatle. Decent album.
Pearl Jam
4/5
I was familiar with 4 songs before listening. The best songs are Black and Jeremy.
Miles Davis
3/5
Maybe a bit too peaceful sometimes. It's nice though.
The Monkees
3/5
I didn't think there was anything special about it.
Paul Simon
4/5
Good stuff. One of the best singer/songwriters. My favourite was Peace Like a River.
Wilco
3/5
I wasn't feeling some of the songs, but overall it was quite decent.
Mudhoney
2/5
Didn't do anything for me. There was only a bit of cool guitar.
Sade
5/5
I don't think I've ever heard a bad Sade song. They're so cool and her voice is so interesting.
The Police
4/5
Good energy on the lesser known songs. I like the well known songs too
Jean-Michel Jarre
4/5
I had only heard Oxygene pt. 4 before, which is really nice. Not everything is quite as catchy, but it's definitely a cool album.
Soul II Soul
3/5
I always quite liked Keep On Movin' and Back To Life. I was disappointed that the original album didn't have the version of Back To Life I normally hear.
Another highlight was African Dance.
Aphex Twin
4/5
Lovely ambient music. Glad the album art isn't terrifying.
Randy Newman
2/5
Not a very engaging singer, in my opinion. The songs are fine.
2/5
Fred Durst is just embarrassing. Some decent instrumentation from It'll Be Ok to Hold On though.
Quicksilver Messenger Service
3/5
It flows well. Maybe too well because I felt there were barely moments that stood out.
The Jam
3/5
Pretty catchy
CHVRCHES
4/5
Catchy synth pop! My favourite was Under The Tide.
Not a fan of vocal chopping, so the bridge of Night Sky didn't work for me.
Hanoi Rocks
3/5
Some catchy songs at the end of the album. Mental Beat was kind of weird.
New York Dolls
3/5
Maybe it wasn't in their time, but I felt it was quite average.
The The
4/5
Pretty cool. The Mercy Beat is a weird banger.
Slipknot
2/5
There was a little bit of nice singing and nice guitar work. I didn't care for most of it.
Joe Ely
4/5
Cornbread Moon is a banger
Tricky
3/5
I was very glad to hear Martina Topley-Bird's vocals so prominently. Quite good album.
Fairport Convention
4/5
This is lovely! Matty Groves sounds familiar. My favourite part was the medley.
Buck Owens
3/5
This swings
The Stone Roses
4/5
The Stone Roses is one of those band names I've seen before, but can't remember if I've heard them before. Looking at the track listing, Fool's Gold rings a bell. I think it's pretty cool, but it's not on the original track listing. Great album even without Fool's Gold though. I think I like their bass best.
Mike Oldfield
5/5
A few years ago I rated all of the albums in my collection to rank them and this album came out on top. This isn't just an album; it's an experience. I can imagine just about a whole movie while listening to this. I gotta admit the part that starts around the 12 minute mark on part 2 is kind of weird, but I feel it somehow fits in the fantasy setting I imagine. The goblin king sends a wolf into battle. I just forgot it ended on a sailor's tune. I thought that was only on a bonus track I didn't listen to this time.
I also really admire Mike Oldfield for his multi instrumentalism.
Sinead O'Connor
4/5
I felt her singing didn't fit with the beat on I Am Stretched On Your Grave. The title track would have been better with more variation.
The rest is good. I like her voice and the emotion she puts in.
King Crimson
3/5
Some parts were nice. Some were too chaotic for my tastes. Some odd high pitched noises reminded me of bats.
Buffalo Springfield
4/5
Hung Upside Down sounds familiar. I had definitely heard that guitarwork before.
Very nice album. Sad Memory is beautiful. I also really liked Expecting to Fly, Bluebird and Rock & Roll Woman.
Doves
4/5
This album is a gem. M62 Song, N.Y, Satellites, Pounding; lots of great songs.
The Pogues
4/5
My favourite moments were when the flute played. I felt The Band Played Waltzing Matilda was too long.
System Of A Down
3/5
I'm unlikely to choose this, but I had this weird childhood memory unlock. They sure are energetic though.
Foo Fighters
3/5
Some catchy tunes, but I would have put The Colour And The Shape on the list instead.
The Jam
3/5
English Rose was the best song from this album. It's really lovely.
Aerosmith
3/5
It was alright
Traffic
5/5
I loved that. Good variety and great instrumentation.
New Order
4/5
This was a good time! It didn't quite grab me like Low-Life did though.
Drive-By Truckers
2/5
Too long. The instrumentation is fine; not great. I'm not a fan of the spoken word and the singer isn't very engaging in general.
Green Day
4/5
I have this one. Catchy as hell
Screaming Trees
3/5
This is pretty cool. I think my favourite was Sworn and Broken.
Meat Puppets
3/5
I really liked Plateau and We're Here. I felt their vocalist didn't put in a lot of effort in on some of the other songs.
Blood, Sweat & Tears
4/5
Very cool mix of funk, jazz, blues and rock. A little weird at times, but mostly cool. Some well known songs I didn't realise these guys had done. My favourite is probably You've Made Me So Very Happy.
Anthrax
3/5
It's like they're a lamer version of Metallica.
Beastie Boys
2/5
I much prefer their rap rock sound over this. There were some good samples, but some annoying ones as well.
The Rolling Stones
3/5
I quite like Sympathy For The Devil. The rest is okay.
Roxy Music
3/5
Some weird songs, but not as many as on For Your Pleasure.
Rush
3/5
I bought this album because I saw quite some hype around this album. it wasn't really what I was hoping for, but it's not bad at all. I was hoping for something more like Subdivisions.
Billie Holiday
3/5
This is one you really have to be in a dreamy or heart-broken mood for. No variation, but if it hits, it hits.
Roxy Music
3/5
I'm not really into this one either.
Incubus
3/5
Nowhere Fast has a nice groove. That was my favourite. Their sound is decent, but a bit weird at times.
American Music Club
3/5
Cozy album with some real nice guitarwork.
Madonna
3/5
This is my favourite side of Madonna. Some great songs like the title track, Frozen and The Power Of Good-Bye. I quite like Sky Fits Heaven as well. Some songs kinda feel like filler though.
Arrested Development
4/5
Beste Hip Hop album I've heard so far. Good samples, good amount of singing, most of the rapping is quite good. Standout tracks: Raining Revolution & U
Holger Czukay
3/5
That was kind of strange, but also quite cheerful, so that helps.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
I was a bit uncomfortable a few times, but those moments fit the theme of the album. They deliver even if I wasn't quite in the mood for this.
Fela Kuti
4/5
Banger of an album, but the drum solo in Ye Ye De Smell did drag on a bit.
Nanci Griffith
4/5
I like her voice; it's sweet. Lovely harmonies on this album as well.
The Smiths
3/5
My favourite was Barbarism Begins at Home. What an outro on that song.
3/5
Some parts are quite nice, but I'm on the fence about a lot of other parts.
Rush
4/5
Yeah! Synth!
Crazy time signature on YYZ's intro. I should probably listen again
Neil Young
3/5
This is decent. Kinda cozy.
Television
4/5
This is cool. I especially liked the title track and Torn Curtain.
Flamin' Groovies
3/5
Decent bluesy rock album.
Machito
3/5
That was fun!
Ozomatli
3/5
Hard to find every song. I skipped Santiago because I only found a live version and the sound quality was bad.
They have a good thing going for the most part. Sometimes they remind me of Santana.
I didn't like Te Estoy Buscando and Saturday Night.
GZA
2/5
The beats are alright, but a little too repetitive. Some synths are annoyingly high-pitched. I don't think his rapping was bad, but it could have been a bit more dynamic.
Giant Sand
2/5
A chore to get through. It's kinda boring and too long. Also quite unpolished in places.
Bee Gees
3/5
Cinematic, but I feel like I'm missing visuals
Grant Lee Buffalo
3/5
Decent album. I think the most interesting song was Stars N'Stripes.
Deep Purple
4/5
Good screaming and I love the organ
Janis Joplin
3/5
Her singing can be a bit much. Maybe you need a certain mood.
Janet Jackson
4/5
Most of it sounds like a product of its time, but I kinda like that. Later on it gets more timeless with some lovely ballads.
Prince
3/5
The title track is definitely the biggest highlight. D.M.S.R. was fun too.
808 State
4/5
Quite dancable
LCD Soundsystem
3/5
I feel they may be more attention grabbing live than in the studio. They're good, but not quite a 4.
The Bees
3/5
That was quite nice
Kate Bush
4/5
That was lovely. My favourite was This Woman's Work. Beautiful
Kate Bush
4/5
Running Up That Hill has an interesting place in my life because I've discovered 3 versions because of 3 different people and I like them all.
I forgot about the title track. It's a lovely song. I've also loved Cloudbusting for quite a while now. The Morning Fog and Jig Of Life are highlights as well. The only song I didn't like was Waking The Witch.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
3/5
Another case of hearing a different version all the time, so the original is a bit odd. This time it's No Woman No Cry. Decent album.
MGMT
4/5
I love their heavy electric sound
Frank Sinatra
4/5
Dreamy. Frank Sinatra is a charismatic singer
Garbage
4/5
I heard Stupid Girl on the radio about an hour ago, so getting this album right now is kinda funny.
This is a pretty cool album.
Fiona Apple
4/5
I like her style. Most songs are cool and soulful. Some are fragile and beautiful.
Finley Quaye
3/5
I don't think I'd call this essential listening, but it's fine, I guess.
Suede
3/5
Not sure how I feel about their singer. The instrumentation is nice. I think my favourite was Sleeping Pills.
Girls Against Boys
2/5
That wasn't for me. Not very melodic.
The xx
3/5
Decent background music.
Marvin Gaye
5/5
Incredible flow. A masterpiece!
Robert Wyatt
2/5
Heaps Of Sheeps was quite nice, but The Dutchess was a mess.
I liked the instrumental part on the first half of Alien. Blues In Bob Minor was pretty cool. Most of the album was a bit of a bore though.
Bad Brains
3/5
This is fine, I guess. Not very special.
Pink Floyd
5/5
Filled with classics and with an incredible flow, this can only be 5 stars.
Linkin Park
3/5
I wish there was less rap. Sometimes they have a good dynamic going though, like on In The End. Chester was great.
The Dandy Warhols
2/5
Most of the psychadelic stuff didn't work for me. They just drone along. The other songs are fine.
The KLF
4/5
It was a pain to try to track down the right tracks, so I hope the ones that were different are close enough.
The best song was Last Train to Trancentral. It had a part that reminded me of the soundtrack of Plok. I love that.
Jane's Addiction
3/5
I quite liked the second half of the album.
Incredible Bongo Band
4/5
That was fun!
Public Image Ltd.
2/5
Instrumentally it's fine, but the vocals range from uninteresting to annoying.
Sam Cooke
4/5
That was fun. Well performed too.
The Smiths
4/5
The best Smiths album I've heard so far. Their instrumentation is very pleasant. Some classics here as well like Bigmouth Strikes Again and There Is A Light That Never Goes Out.
Ray Price
2/5
I was a bit bored.
Talking Heads
4/5
Weird in a good way
Magazine
4/5
I love the guitarwork and keyboards. Very cool album!
Fever Ray
2/5
I don't like the vocals very much. The backing is okay.
The Chemical Brothers
3/5
The first half of the album is annoying and the second half is kinda nice.
Electric Light Orchestra
5/5
Easiest 5 stars for me. I have this album. It has no weak songs, in my opinion. Most of the songs are catchy as hell. I love the orchestration. The backing vocals are so charming! It even has my favourite ELO song: Wild West Hero
Michael Jackson
5/5
I know Thriller is his most succesful era, but I think this is his most iconic era. Shout out to Another Part of Me! I forgot how much of a banger that is.
The Crusaders
4/5
I always found the title track quite long and this one is even longer... It's a good song though. The rest of the album is also good.
Dolly Parton
3/5
Lovely harmonies. All three of them have great voices.
Dizzee Rascal
1/5
What an annoying sounding rapper. I think the problem is his delivery. Most songs also had very annoying bass sounds. The best song by far was Do It! followed by Jezebel.
The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
2/5
A lot of that was annoying. It was decent at best.
Sonic Youth
3/5
A solid 75% is quite good. Best album of theirs I've heard.
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
3/5
That was quite normal for the most part.
Queen
4/5
Some good transitions, especially on the first half of the album. I was only familiar with Killer Queen and Now I'm Here before listening, which are good songs. Other than those, the best songs seem to be the shorter ones.
Pantera
2/5
There's some good guitarwork like on Live in a Hole and Hollow, but most this album doesn't resonate with me. I prefer metal with higher and more melodic vocals and guitarwork.
The Jesus And Mary Chain
3/5
This is nice. Not very catchy, but a pleasant listen.
Jazmine Sullivan
3/5
Most of the songs are really nice. Replace the Tales with proper songs like the rest and you'd have a solid album, but I know they're pretty much the point of the album.
She's a very pleasant singer.
Tina Turner
4/5
Tina Turner is so cool. A lot of good songs here. My favourite is What's Love Got To Do With It. My least favourite is I Can't Stand The Rain. I guess I'm too used to the original version.
Moby
4/5
I bought this album for the timeless classics (Porcelain, Why Does My Heart Feel so Bad? & Natural Blues) and it has some other very lovely tracks like Everloving and Inside. I appreciate this album more now than when I reviewed it for my own collection.
Happy Mondays
4/5
A bit of a banger.
Stephen Stills
4/5
Nice flow at the beginning of the album. I love the vocal harmonies that come in sometimes.
Madonna
2/5
This didn't age very well, especially the title track. There are some good songs though. Don't Tell Me (though I hate the intro) & What It Feels Like for a Girl in particular.
Herbie Hancock
4/5
I grew up on this, so side A is iconic to me
Brian Eno
3/5
A little too much silence between most tracks. It doesn't make it flow very well. The music is alright for the most part. My favourites were St Elmo's Fire and Golden Hours.
Prefab Sprout
4/5
That was very nice! Lovely harmonies. Sometimes the melodies remind me of Steely Dan.
The Thrills
4/5
I liked this. Nice sound. Cool discovery
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
4/5
Lovely album. I forgot about Into My Arms. My favourite was West Country Girl. The spoken word on Green Eyes was a bummer though.
Solange
3/5
I was excited to listen to this because I heard Cranes in the Sky before. Unfortunately for me almost all of the interludes were spoken word and there's almost as many interludes as actual songs.
She's a good singer. The instrumentation is nice. I'm just not into spoken word.
Super Furry Animals
3/5
A bit chaotic at times. It's mostly fine and quite fun.
Penguin Cafe Orchestra
3/5
Some real gems here like The Sound Of Someone You Love Who's Going Away And It Doesn't Matter and Chartered Flight. Also quite a bit of experimental stuff that doesn't work for me. An odd one.
The Style Council
4/5
Cool variety! I'm used to the full band version of Ever Changing Moods, which is a fantastic song, but this version is definitely good as well.
The Cramps
3/5
Though a bit predictable at times, a decent mix of genres.
Gillian Welch
3/5
Lovely harmonies, but there's not a lot of variety.
4/5
I quite liked this. Good variety. My favourites were Space Child and Life Has Just Begun.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
4/5
I like their style
Jethro Tull
4/5
I've heard of them before, but I maybe only heard Locomotive Breath before. It's cool though.
Throwing Muses
3/5
Her vocals are quite hit-or-miss
Death In Vegas
3/5
A bit of an oddball, but there's some good stuff here. Flying, Lever Street and Aladdin's Story were the best ones. My least favourites were Death Threat and Aisha.
Arcade Fire
2/5
The instrumentation is quite nice, but the male singer makes it a drag to listen to.
The best song was Rebellion (Lies).
Decent album. My favourite was Debris.
Ash
3/5
A bit messy at times, but mostly nice. The vocals are a bit low energy though.
The Sugarcubes
3/5
I had only heard Björk's solo work before. This is such a different vibe, but quite fun. My favourites were Motorcrash and Birthday.
The Prodigy
2/5
I wasn't looking forward to this, but I guess it's not really among the worst. I even kinda liked Fuel My Fire.
I guess my main problem is the vocals. I guess their high energy is jarring on the radio. Firestarter still fills me with dread.
Genesis
5/5
A while ago I decided I should try to get into Genesis, but I hadn't taken that much time for it yet, so I was very glad to generate this album. Absolute banger! There's only a few moments I didn't love, like the first 3 minutes of The Waiting Room.
U2
3/5
One is great. I don't love the other hits. I was surprised by Acrobat. I liked that one.
Haircut 100
5/5
That was a jam! Very bright, fun and feel-good! I especially loved the brass!
Röyksopp
4/5
I have this one. I bought if for Eple and Poor Leno, but most of the songs are very nice. Sparks is another highlight.
Merle Haggard
3/5
This is just about what I'd expect from a country album.
Slint
2/5
Too much spoken word for my tastes. The volume dynamics were also a bit annoying. The best song was Washer.
Devendra Banhart
2/5
The guitarwork is nice, but as an overall experience, this was a bit of a boring album. The singer is not very engaging to me.
Venom
3/5
Not something I would very likely choose to listen to, but it's kind of fun in a way. Some nice guitarwork.
Dexys Midnight Runners
4/5
They're usually thought of as one-hit-wonders, but I remember Jackie Wilson Said as well.
This was a fun album with various styles! I especially enjoyed the violin.
4/5
That was fun! Great use of the two vocalists.
Pere Ubu
1/5
Passable at best and dreadful at worst. Did we really need both this and Dub Housing?
James Taylor
3/5
That was nice. Fire and Rain is a classic.
Megadeth
4/5
That was fun! Some nice guitar solos. The vocals are a bit goofy sometimes though.
TV On The Radio
2/5
Not really feeling this one. There were no moments that really stood out and one of the vocalists bugged me a bit.
Ali Farka Touré
4/5
Sometimes it drags on a little bit, but it had a strong start and my favourite was Lasidan. I loved the summer-y vibe of the guitar
CHIC
4/5
Some iconic songs here like Chic Cheer, Le Freak and I Want Your Love. I really liked Savoir Faire as well.
Sometimes it's a little repetitive though.
The Dictators
4/5
That was fun! It's like if the Beach Boys were more rock oriented
The Black Keys
4/5
Some interesting guitar sounds. My favourite was Unknown Brother.
Bauhaus
4/5
Interesting mix of moody and upbeat songs. I loved the shift around the middle of the title track. Very cool rhythm on Muscle in Plastic.
Van Halen
4/5
Quite a banger of an album. Cool intro on Hot For Teacher. I love the synths as well as the guitars.
David Holmes
3/5
My favourite was Rodney Yates. I didn't like the interludes and the intro very much, but they don't take up a lot of space. Decent album.
Rahul Dev Burman
3/5
That was quite fun. I bet it works like a soundtrack like it's supposed to. I haven't seen the movie.
Hookworms
4/5
I didn't like Boxing Day very much, but I liked the rest of the album. I love the spacey feel.
R.E.M.
4/5
Decent variety in moods and instrumentation
LL Cool J
3/5
Good beats for the most part. The rapping is often quite good. I just would appreciate more singing.
Peter Gabriel
4/5
Good variety of moods. I prefer the less funky songs, but I find This Is The Picture to be the weakest song. I find it unclear whether I should count that song though, because it wasn't on the original vinyl release, but it was on the cassette and CD. I guess most people count it, so it's a 4 for me.
Britney Spears
3/5
Here's one from my childhood. Most of the songs I didn't know were quite sweet sounding. Soda Pop was kinda weird though. The Beat Goes On wasn't a great cover, but I'm not a fan of the original either. The best song was Born to Make You Happy.
The Velvet Underground
3/5
Decent album. Sometimes a little rough like European Son, but overall quite enjoyable.
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
4/5
This is long. Start by cutting the random conversations. This is good bluegrass, to be fair. Loving the banjo and fiddle.
Pet Shop Boys
4/5
I think Yesterday When I Was Mas is the only Pet Shop Boys song I've heard that I don't like very much. I like their style
James Brown
3/5
It's decent music. It's just a lot of the same to me. I don't get why Lost Someone is 10 minutes long.
Ananda Shankar
3/5
That was fun. Snow Flower was beautiful. I just thought Sagar took too long to go anywhere.
Jefferson Airplane
3/5
My favourites were She Has Funny Cars, 3/5 of a Mile in 10 Seconds, D.C.B.A-25 and Embryonic Journey. I think the rest is alright. White Rabbit has a cool rhythm.
Depeche Mode
4/5
Bangers! Pimpf was a little weird though.
Pixies
4/5
I really enjoy their bass and guitar work. I'm not a fan of the shouting, but there's not a lot of it.
I forgot about the whistling on La La Love You. That's funny
Genesis
5/5
Yesss! I was hoping there'd be more Genesis on this list! This was great! Especially the longer songs! When the synth kicks in, it takes it to another level!
Best songs: Firth Of Fifth and The Cinema Show
Brian Wilson
2/5
This was my first time hearing his solo work. Lovely harmonies, as expected from him. A lot of songs sound disjointed or unfinished though. It's a shame. The strangest song was Mrs. O'Leary's Cow. My favourite part was Child Is Father of the Man & Surf's Up and of course Good Vibrations.
Sepultura
2/5
I was hoping that the fact they're a Brazilian band would bring something new to the heavy metal table, but it's like they have just 2 modes: up to 11 with screaming and a heavy sound or quiet guitar/percussion/whatever Itsári is. There was maybe one song that was a bit of a mix. Disappointing
Simply Red
4/5
I knew more songs than I realised (Sad Old Red and Jericho). I went in thinking I like Simply Red, but prefer their later stuff. Maybe that's still true, but there's a lot of good funky stuff going on here. They sure started with a banger. It was a fun touch to go from repeatedly mentioning money on Jericho to Money's Too Tight (to Mention).
Mick Hucknall is a great singer with an awesome voice.
Wire
4/5
That was fun. Good energy!
50 Cent
2/5
I appreciate that there's quite a bit of singing. There's still a lot of songs I don't like though. The best song was 21 Questions.
Pentangle
4/5
Very lovely folk music. I love the female vocals. Still a good dynamic between male and female vocals.
Laura Nyro
4/5
Man, she loves her tempo changes. Sometimes it loses its momentum because of it though like on Sweet Blindness. I quite like this album though.
SAULT
3/5
Some songs are very nice. Other are kind of weird. It evens out to about average.
Elis Regina
5/5
Nice variety in moods. Some songs kinda funky like Aprendendo A Jogar. Some more dreamy like the title track (that was magical!). O Que Foi Feito Devera was very cool
Thin Lizzy
4/5
That was fun! I love their guitar sound!
Willie Nelson
2/5
I was bored by most songs. They're quite slow and didn't have a lot going on. I enjoyed some of the song on the 2nd half of the album. My favourites were Down Yonder, Remember Me and Bandera.
George Harrison
4/5
Quite long, but good. George Harrison was the best Beatle, in my opinion.
Björk
4/5
I have this one! I find this one quite accessible by Björk standards. Difficult to choose a favourite song because the quality of most songs is about the same. They're very good!
I don't like Aeroplane and The Anchor Song very much though.
The Human League
3/5
Quite good synth sounds. I don't like the vocals very much though.
10cc
4/5
Quite a creative album with many tempo changes. My favourite was Somewhere In Hollywood.
Fatboy Slim
3/5
Very cool, but sometimes he ruins it with long stretched/slowed sound bites.
Terence Trent D'Arby
3/5
For a long time I didn't know who this guy was while his name would sometimes pop up. Well, his old name. Wishing Well, Dance Little Sister and Sign Your Name still get decent radio play. I always found Wishing Well quite silly sounding. I'd say Dance Little Sister is probably the best one. Rain was quite a fun song. Decent album.
I think sometimes his singing is a bit much, but I guess that adds personality.
Judas Priest
4/5
That was fun! Nice guitarwork. I like their sound
The War On Drugs
4/5
I love a good dreamy vibe. I think I've listened to this album before at some point, but didn't remember a lot because it's not very catchy. It's very pleasant though.
Led Zeppelin
3/5
Fun, but didn't always keep my attention.
The Verve
3/5
Some cool sounds, but sometimes messy. Not very grabbing melodies.
Marty Robbins
4/5
I forgot about El Paso! We used to play that with our band!
This sounds like a classic
Anita Baker
5/5
I love her voice! This is timeless romantic soul
Black Sabbath
4/5
This flows well!
TLC
3/5
Their singing is very nice. Cutting the interludes and intro would help the album quite a lot.
Travis
4/5
They have some lovely melodies. I quite like their singer too.
I'm just amused that I heard a few songs by them in the past week while I normally never hear them.
The Beau Brummels
3/5
I didn't love the singing, but it was a decent album
TV On The Radio
3/5
Instrumentally it was good for the most part. I felt the opposite about the vocals.
Richard Thompson
4/5
That was some real nice folk music. My favourite was the opening track
Madonna
4/5
Some solid songs here. My favourites were the title track, Dear Jessie and Oh Father.
Adele
3/5
Lovely instrumental break on Remedy and Love In The Dark. The best song was definitely Water Under The Bridge. That should have been the smash hit. When We Were Young would take my 2nd place.
I felt 21 was a stronger album.
PJ Harvey
2/5
Remind me to listen to this when I'm miserable as fuck
4/5
Best one of hers so far. My favourites were This Mess We're In, You Said Something and We Float.
Stan Getz
4/5
Very lovely bossa nova. I'd rate 5 stars if there was a bit more variety in moods and if the volume mixing was a bit better.
Franz Ferdinand
5/5
I have this album! Bangers from start to finish!
Elvis Presley
3/5
The album is fine, but I don't think we needed 3 Elvis Presley albums.
Elvis Presley
3/5
Okay, this one has a bit more variety than the other two albums.
Gram Parsons
3/5
Decent country album. I like how he sounds together with Emmylou Harris.
Coldplay
3/5
Not my favourite of their work, but definitely some solid songs here (Don't Panic, Shiver, Yellow and Trouble)
Black Sabbath
4/5
Very cool album with a good variety of moods and flavours
Hüsker Dü
4/5
Good album, though a little long. Reminds me of REM, but with a bit more punch. My favourite was Turn it Around.
Kings of Leon
3/5
There's some nice guitarwork, but the singer is still a bit whiney.
I remember when a few of these songs were hits, a radio dj claimed that the next year we'd know these guys' names. I just saw their names for the first time in their spotify bio and they're all related and have the same last name. Should have been achievable, right?
Bebel Gilberto
4/5
My dad has this album. "So Nice" is a fitting descriptor.
John Lennon
2/5
The unbearable screaming really didn't help the otherwise okay album.
Tangerine Dream
2/5
I've always seen their albums in CD/record stores, but never knew what kind of music it was. "Dream" in the group name is quite fitting. It's quite spacey, but didn't really make me go places.
Frank Sinatra
4/5
Frank Sinatra was so charismatic that it's charming to hear him sing about "making whoopee" and liking potato chips.
Mercury Rev
3/5
Pretty cool for a large part, but very weird some other times. Sometimes even uncomfortable like on The Happy End.
The Afghan Whigs
3/5
Instrumentally this is cool. I'm not very into the vocals though. The best song was Brother Woodrow/Closing Prayer.
Liz Phair
2/5
I wasn't really feeling this one. I was expecting more energy from her.
X-Ray Spex
3/5
Good energy. I like the inclusion of the saxophone. I don't think I had heard that in punk before.
Beth Orton
4/5
Good variety of moods
Ice Cube
3/5
Good instrumentation on most tracks. Some that stood out were the title track, It Was A Good Day and Dirty Mack.
M.I.A.
2/5
Innovative, but I also find most songs annoying.
I think Paper Planes has potential, but I really hate the chorus. Jimmy would have been good too if it weren't for the vocals.
Elvis Costello
3/5
This is fine. Decent variety.
Pavement
4/5
A little weird, but I dug it. My favourite was 5-4=Unity
Pulp
4/5
Before this year I think I only knew Common People. Turns out this is a pretty cool band. Good variety on this album too.
Astrud Gilberto
4/5
Nice and dreamy, but Parade was silly and I didn't really like the child singing.
Minor Threat
3/5
Good energy! The instrumentation is fun. I don't really like the vocals very much, but they don't get in the way too much.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
Solid album. My favourite is Up Around The Bend. One of the most fun songs we've interpolated with our band.
Bruce Springsteen
3/5
I always liked the title track. It's probably one of his best songs.
I think the piano really shines on this album.
Primal Scream
3/5
That was psychedelic. Decent listen, but not very catchy. A little annoying at times too, like on Motorhead.
The Fall
2/5
A bit messy at times. I didn't care for the vocals.
3/5
This is pretty charming. I liked her spunkiness on Get What 'Cha Got And Go
T. Rex
3/5
One of those bands I've heard of, but never checked out. It turned out I know Get It On. I think that has been in countless commercials. Decent album.
William Orbit
3/5
A few moments I wasn't a fan of ( a moment in Into The Paradise, rap on Time To Get Wize, talking on Gringatcho Demento) but most of it was perfectly fine. Best as background music I'd say, though.
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
2/5
A lot of chaos and god, the brass... but there's a few decent sounding songs. My favourite was Steal Softly Thru Snow.
Buzzcocks
3/5
Good energy! Some of the lyrics were kinda funny. Nice bass
Leonard Cohen
4/5
Sounds from him I'm not used to. Surprising variety.
I was looking forward to hearing Take This Waltz. I like it.
Animal Collective
3/5
Sometimes they choose some annoying sounds, but a lot of it is pretty good. Repetitive at times though.
Jerry Lee Lewis
4/5
That was fun!
Lauryn Hill
3/5
Most songs are quite good. I'm not a fan of most of the outros because they're spoken word.
Living Colour
3/5
That was pretty cool. Nice guitar sound.
4/5
Not what I was expecting at all, but I believe I've only heard one of their songs before. I really enjoyed this though!
Malcolm McLaren
3/5
Not what I expected from the title. The World songs were pretty good; most of them. I think the hiphop flavour is a bit too strong for my tastes. This album is pretty strange.
Tracy Chapman
4/5
Great voice. I've always loved Fast Car. I don't hear Talkin' Bout a Revolution a lot. Lovely songs.
Lupe Fiasco
3/5
The longest intro and outro I've ever heard.
Instrumentally it was pretty good. Decent amount of singing. About average rapping; maybe above.
Muddy Waters
4/5
This is performed so well, you almost don't hear it's live.
Donovan
4/5
I enjoyed the variation in instrumentation.
Beck
3/5
Very varied. I love that. My favourites were Girl and Rental Car.
Derek & The Dominos
4/5
Clapton is an ass, but Little Wing and Layla lift this album to a 4. Best version of Layla.
The Stranglers
4/5
That was fun! I especially liked the keys!
The Modern Lovers
3/5
Some cool instrumentation. Mostly on the beginning of the album though. The singer is a bit low energy.
Megadeth
3/5
Nice guitarwork. I especially liked My Last Words.
Mekons
3/5
That was quite fun! I didn't like Psycho Cupid very much though.
Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
3/5
I really liked Dreamin' and You Are.
I thought I liked the title track more than this.
The Psychedelic Furs
4/5
Fun New Wave album.
Tito Puente
4/5
Very danceable and fun!
David Ackles
4/5
I like his voice. Montana Song was my favourite.
Dinosaur Jr.
3/5
Decent sound, but Don't was annoying.
The Pharcyde
2/5
I enjoyed some of the instrumentation like on the first interlude and some of the jazzier songs later on. Unfortunately there's not a lot of singing. I felt the rapping was a bit below average. There's effort, but I didn't really like it.
Doves
4/5
Solid album. The only thing I didn't like was some of the weirdly processed vocals. I'm glad this project introduced me to this band!
Napalm Death
2/5
There is some decent playing, but most of it seemed to be focused on being loud and fast instead of being cohesive. I was never into grunting either. A little bit of grunting is alright, though.
You Suffer cracked me up, to be fair.
Steely Dan
4/5
It's no Aja, but still a solid Steely Dan album. My favourites were my Old School and King Of The World. They're quite catchy.
Laibach
3/5
Not sure if it was their intention, but I thought it was funny.
Ramones
4/5
Cute!
Marilyn Manson
2/5
Some good riffs sometimes. The vocals are often too monotone for my tastes.
Jacques Brel
3/5
I don't feel very strongly about most French chansons. I feel this would have been nostalgic for my grandparents, but I didn't grow up on it.
Marvin Gaye
4/5
Solid album. My favourites were When Did You Stop Loving Me, When Did I Stop Loving You; Sparrow; Anna's Song & Falling In Love Again.
Burning Spear
3/5
Decent reggae album. Sometimes a bit repetitive lyrically though.
Circle Jerks
2/5
Good energy. I'm just not very into the singing.
Mj Cole
3/5
I can't find the last two songs on the album, so I'm going to assume they're very similar to the two songs that share their titles and let it go.
Decent album. Probably best as background music. My favourite was Crazy Love.
Bon Jovi
4/5
Bon Jovi is fun!
Iggy Pop
3/5
Some nice guitarwork on the later songs
Love
4/5
Very cool album. Love the folkiness!
Radiohead
4/5
I have this album. Last time I listened to this album I described it as weird and inaccessible. My expectations were probably too high because I think this is probably Radiohead's most important album.
I was more ready this time. I think only the title track and The National Anthem are a little rough. I don't mind the more ambient tracks. My favourites are Everything in Its Right Place, Optimistic, In Limbo and Idioteque.
Weird and inaccessible? Maybe, but not necessarily in a bad way.
Björk
3/5
Like I'd expect from Björk: weird that sticks, weird that doesn't stick and a bit more normal inbetween.
This was the first time I heard the original Who Is It. I used to hear the Kurt Elling cover on a soul & jazz radio station, which I like. I definitely want to listen again. I didn't like it as much, but hope it'll grow on me.
Triumph Of A Heart is weirder than I remember. It's also a banger.
Nightmares On Wax
4/5
Sometimes there are some weird vocals, but overall this was a nice, relaxing and a little funky album. It does its job!
Calexico
4/5
Too bad I wasn't able to find the hidden track because this album is awesome! I guess I'll have to buy it!
So many instruments played by one guy! I always admire a multi-instrumentalist!
Ghostface Killah
2/5
The samples were decent. I thought the rapping was annoying. Most of it is quite aggressive.
The best song was Momma.
Peter Tosh
3/5
Decent reggae album. My favourites were Why Must I Cry and Till Your Well Runs Dry.
k.d. lang
3/5
I like her voice. My favourite song was Don't Let the Stars Get in your Eyes.
Chicago
4/5
Banger of an album! Love the brass!
They should have left off Free Form Guitar though. It goes on way too long and is no fun to listen to.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
3/5
Decent album, but sometimes he puts on a weird voice.
Beatles
3/5
I have this album.
Best songs: Blackbird, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Mother Nature's Son & I Will. There's some other songs I like, but unfortunately this album also has Wild Honey Pie and Revolution 9.
Afrika Bambaataa
2/5
That was kinda weird. Too much rap for my tastes. Go Go Pop was the best song.
Ryan Adams
3/5
Decent album. A little boring in the middle (Sylvia Plath, Enemy Fire)
Kacey Musgraves
4/5
Lovely album. Her voice is very easy on the ears. I like the mix of country with modern sounds.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
3/5
Decent. I didn't really like Farmer John. The rest was okay.
The Darkness
4/5
A very fun throwback. Especially the guitarwork is very fun.
The Velvet Underground
3/5
Decent album. I just found The Murder Mystery quite messy.
Moby Grape
3/5
Pretty normal old rock album. The harmonies are pretty nice.
John Martyn
4/5
Very pleasant instrumentation. My favourites were Certain Surprise and Dancing.
The Charlatans
3/5
Reminded me a little too much of Oasis.
My favourites were Only Teethin' and Get On It. They were a bit more bluesy.
The Vines
3/5
Decent album. Maybe a bit much screaming at times. My favourite was Mary Jane.
Ministry
1/5
Some good guitarwork here and there, but not enough to save this album for me. Not melodic enough for me and just rather annoying.
Shuggie Otis
4/5
Solid mix of styles and moods
Fleetwood Mac
5/5
I was definitely sleeping on this album the last time I tried to listen to it. Most likely literally.
This is almost like a greatest hits compilation!
The Hives
3/5
Not sure what a compilation album is doing here.
It's fine. A little rough around the edges.
Bill Callahan
3/5
I really enjoy the instrumentation on this album. The vocals are a bit repetitive at times though, like on Faith/Void and Too Many Birds.
Beatles
4/5
I really love Norwegian Wood and In My Life. Girl is also a pretty song.
I never really liked Nowhere Man. The rest of the album is decent.
I referenced Michelle yesterday, so I'm amused I got this album today.

4/5
I like the folkiness of this album!

This is lovely. I especially like the instrumentation.

2/5
The instrumentation is fine, but I'm really not into the vocals. It's just not my style at all.
The Undertones
4/5
Very fun!
Ms. Dynamite
3/5
I forgot about her. I'm pretty sure a poster of hers was hanging in my old school.
Best songs: All I Ever, Anyway U Want It
The Byrds
4/5
I liked this! The folkiness and the harmonies are very nice!
Big Brother & The Holding Company
3/5
Janis Joplin can be a bit much. She's especially screechy on Summertime, which is otherwise an awesome version. My favourite was Oh, Sweet Mary.
Can
3/5
That was decent. The vocals sounded too far away for half the album though. Odd choice. Bel Air was the best song.
The Velvet Underground
1/5
Quite messy. A little too much distortion and squeeking; way too much talking.
Fleetwood Mac
3/5
The best songs were Sara and Storms.
The Cure
4/5
I'm not crazy about the title track. Otherwise a good moody album.
Kraftwerk
4/5
Banging electronica
Gene Clark
3/5
Not a lot of variety in moods. It's a decent listen though.
Lou Reed
3/5
Low energy vocalist

4/5
Decent variety. It's quite fun

3/5
Decent country music. Best Wilco I've heard so far.
The Kinks
3/5
I love the harpsichord! Sunny Afternoon is here; one of my favourite of theirs
Weather Report
4/5
I was looking forward to this because Birdland is awesome! I didn't realise Jaco Pastorius was in Weather Report! That's also awesome! I felt Palladíum was another highlight. Rumba Mama kinda broke the flow of the album, but I guess it wouldn't be as bad on the record version.
The Yardbirds
3/5
Decent variety. Quite an abrupt end.

I quite liked Take It from Here, Nothin' Else and Still On My Brain. The last two of those remind me of Stevie Wonder. Never Again is quite nice as well.
I never liked the hits very much. Rock Your Body is definitely the best one of those.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions

My favourite was Oliver's Army. Quite catchy album.
Red Hot Chili Peppers

I have this album. I always liked the hits.
They're a bit aggressive at times like Get On Top and I Like Dirt, but they flip the other way with the beautiful Porcelain and Road Trippin', which is quite refreshing.
Talking Heads

Why do I never hear these songs on the radio? This is a pretty cool album. I just didn't like Animals very much though.
Dr. John

Belle & Sebastian
4/5
This was my first time hearing Belle and Sebastian. I never knew it's not a duo.
Nice style! I especially liked the songs with the trumpet. Interesting voice. It's almost androgynous.
3/5
Solid hits on this album. I think the rest is fine.

That was quite annoying. Rap that doesn't seem to go anywhere. Most of the instrumentation is annoying. Conversations slapped onto on songs.
