Pretty nice grunge music.
Very good.
On Nevermind, Nirvana kicks down the door that punk and metal only rattled. Sure, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" blew up the airwaves and anointed Kurt Cobain as the reluctant voice of a generation, but listen closer and you'll hear a band just as obsessed with melody as they are with volume. Tracks like "In Bloom" and "Come As You Are" show off Cobain’s knack for writing instantly memorable hooks, even when he’s wallowing in alienation. “Come As You Are” might lift its bassline from Killing Joke, but it transforms it into a slow-burn anthem of distrust and distance. “Lithium” perfects the quiet-loud-quiet formula that everyone from the Pixies to Sonic Youth dabbled with, but here it's weaponized for sing-along catharsis. And honestly, the deeper cuts are where Nevermind feels most alive. “Lounge Act” is a jittery little gem, Kurt’s slightly flat vocals giving way to a key-change scream that could peel paint. “On a Plain” plays it half-sarcastic, half-sincere, riding a wave of fuzzed-out guitars and mumbled self-loathing. Throughout it all, Krist Novoselic’s thick, rubbery bass holds the chaos together while Dave Grohl pounds the drums like a guy who still can’t believe he gets paid to do this. If Nevermind was supposed to be an accident, it’s the kind you can’t stop replaying.
Light almost everything on there
Good
The Good: Where in Nirvana! The Bad: Turns out that you have to live in Seattle to experience it, wear flannel, and do drugs… The Ugly: Oh well, whatever, nevermind… I am genius! When this album came out, it was not my cup of tea as I was still enjoying other rock related music back then… looking at The Black Crows, not so much the hair bands. Together with countless others, we were wondering what the hell an albino, a mosquito, made one fear ones libido… They certainly were interesting times. Personally I listened to Temple of the Dog, as well as Pearl Jam more so than Curt and Co (unfair towards Novoselic and Grohl, and I probably wrote the same thing while rating In Utero). So what do I think of this album? I think that ANY BAND IN THE WORLD would sacrifice their drummer to have the first 5 songs on their record be Smells Like Teen Spirit, In Bloom, Come As You Are, Breed, and Lithium… to follow that up with Polly… the only downside is that the remainder of the album just kinda disappears on you… And that is the reason that I can not score this album a 5*, because at the end of the day, it would never be able to finish a marathon as it starts off as a sprint. I will repeat though, and smile whilest remembering those lovely years of the early ‘90s while in college, chasing women and being happy with a D in Anthropology! 4 1/2* downgraded...
As a whole, this is their best work. Great album. Drain You is my favorite nirvana song!
The last song was not my cup of tea, but the rest is good
So many of these songs are so ever-present that it's hard to hear them now and experience them as anything more complex than wallpaper. It's also kind of a weird album... It's super clean sounding, missing a lot of the rough edges from Bleach, but it isn't fully fleshed out and rich like In Utero. The songs themselves are stuck in an in-between space too, sometimes raw and sometimes pop but never really both or either somehow. All of that being said, it's a good listen, and worth repeated listens. But after it's massive impact on everyone and everything ever since I kind of wish I hadn't been force fed so many repeat listens and could hear it just one more time without all of the baggage of every public space I've heard these songs in over the years.
I wasn't really a Nirvana fan in the 90s, but this was way better than I thought it was going to be.
I mean, it's Nirvana. The album is pretty front-loaded, like most albums, but halfway through I have yet to hear something that I can even say is mid, save for maybe "Territorial Pissings". Even the overplayed songs are pretty good; they're overplayed for a reason. "Endless, Nameless" is the only song I'd say I could do without (not that it's bad by any means) but given that it was supposed to be a hidden track, its composition makes more sense. Overall a very solid album, as to be expected.

-finally getting to listen to a Nirvana album properly… this day was long overdue -yeah, this is good. really good. which i was expecting, so maybe that influenced my opinion unfairly, but idk it’s just. so good -i am obsessed with the most popular songs on here honestly, ig they’re popular for a reason. not totally flawless i guess but an absolutely breathtaking album -Favorites are Smells Like Teen Spirit, Breed, and On A Plain
Ofc listened to this album back in my teenage years! Still good. Admittedly didn't listen to Endless Nameless much before, but that song must have been interesting live!
clássico é clássico. breed a mais mais do álbum.
I get it now. This is from that 90s era where I wasn't listening to a ton of music and even less new music. Grunge, indie rock, nu-metal all passed by me, not interested. Obviously I know who Nirvana are, I know their most well-known tracks, but I had never listened to a Nirvana album all the way through. I get it now.
bop after bop, hit after hit. however some of the tracks sound like they recycle the same melody. its a good melody, but the same melody nonetheless.
The greatness of this album is assured by its musicality alone, but back in the day I hated it for the same two I hate many genres of music - the lyrics are - mumbling, slurring mess requiring me to look them up to divine what the artist is trying to say. Music, like a good joke, losses something when you have to explain it.
its nirvana. that being said, im not the biggest grunge guy.
83/100.
Not really a Nirvana fan but this is a good album. 4 stars or B-.
Great. Legendary tracks. Only the ending fell flat when the grating, discordant guitar noises of grunge get a little too much for me to handle.
Jeg prøver at lægge min første indskydelse (overrated!) fra mig og bare lytte, og altså det er sgu nogle meget fede numre
Classic - reference album for grunge.
I always assumed that Nirvana broke out in a way that their predecessors never did because Kurt was pretty (unlike, say, Black Francis) and was willing, at least at first, to play the game (unlike Paul Westerberg). But listening to this again now I realize that it's also because the album sounds so clean, with crisp drums and chiming guitars, so it goes down easy, and the masses loved it. Kurt hated that. I found it a little jarring as well. The songs themselves hold up pretty well.
Legendary album (but i dont love it)
The quintessential grunge album. A bit over the top for my liking in places but overall really enjoyed and dotted with 90s classics.
Pretty fucking great album. Listened to this throughout the day while I dealt with a SNAFU at work. It’s weird being in a position where I want to work but can’t. It’s more that I know if I don’t get it done today I’ll have double the work on Monday. Even then I left early because I had a few medical appointments today. One was to get some lumps in my chest and stomach checked by a dermatologist. They also took a look at the discoloration on my side. I got it checked last year and they confirmed it’s Morphea. That’s basically a localized form of scleroderma, which is a systemic auto-immune disease that targets the collagen in your skin cells. Good news is they can be removed. Even more good news is I was able to get a pretty short appointment for an ultrasound so the lumps themselves can get scanned. It was hot as fuck in town today, but these jams were just so nice and cool and heavy to have. I’ve definitely heard most of the songs on the album, but had never really listened to it cover-to-cover. Or if I had it was only once many years ago. Each song had energy, but it was a huge difference from the last album recommended - that Urban Hymn shit from the Verve. Night and day difference between that schlock and this very well composed and powerful album.
Great Album! Must have.
Nirvana Good
First half: absolutely classic. Back half of the album is kinda all over the place. Overall a good listen but I wouldn't turn the record over
Classic
Smells Like Teen Spirit and Come As You Are are the most overrated rock songs of all time 9.35/10 album
Ah… to go back.
a classic four out of five
It’s nirvana, people won’t like this as it’s not to everyone’s taste but this is what I grew up with. It’s the start of grunge music in the 90’s, giving way to lots of music we have today. Some big tracks on here that are heard to this day. 8.4/10.
Some of the later songs were a bit annoying to listen to
There are some absolute classics on this album, but also a lot of misses.
Smells Like Teen Spirit In.Bloom Come As You Are Lithium ~ Polly Something In The Way
Amazing how many of these albums I own on vinyl. Bought this one on the strength of Teen Spirit but found the rest of the album didn’t let me down. I struggled through the 80’s with the overproduced image conscious direction that pop was taking but this album felt link a return to authenticity that the Clash and the Pistols delivered in the 70’s. Come as you are and lithium feel simple but are reality are emotionally powerful. love it
4 out of 5. Certainly an album people should listen to at least once in their lives but if it were me I'd choose Unplugged in New York.
Still good, but still a bit uneven.
Egentligen bara Something in the way på andra halvan som håller toppklass.
crazy to hear how raw these dudes are even on a major label release what a cool album
really good, such a classic!! super easy listening and absolute bangers on there, will agree with dan tho that it’s really overplayed. doesn’t make it bad tho!! i bloody love polly and omfg FUCK smells like teen spirit stupid fucking song
4/5 because of the over produced sound
Einige Klassiker
You're on a plane, I'm on a plaine... This was a slay of an album.
I can definitely understand why this album is a classic. It's also just not my genre, but I respect it for what it is. The songs do start to melt together a little in my mind so it's hard for me to give it more than a 4. But I definitely respect the raw musicality of this album. The drums on the whole thing are crazy. In Bloom is a banger.
really enjoyed the style of this whole album
Lots of good songs, didn't realize a lot of those songs were from this album
Nunca he sido rockero pero es que este álbum es increíble, re escucharlo fue bello, no lo recordaba tan bueno
very solid album with lots of good tracks.
Who cares!?? Right!!? Nah I mean, I get it. I love it. I think I get it. But I know I love it. Most of the songs but all the album. Except the cover. They're an act, but there's enough honesty and self awareness. I can't help but feel bad for the boys though, at this time they didn't know they were about to get hit by a comet. Or turned into one. Ugh. The music industry can makes all your dreams come true.
Classic album cover, how delightfully goofy. Underrated are the great fonts in the bottom left. 1. Hot take: this is a very very good song lol. Legendary fill, killer riff, phenomenal modulation of tone (both guitar and generally) and really cool lyrics delivered phenomenally. It’s iconic for a reason. What a solo, too! Simple and tasteful but epic at the same time. God, those chorus vocals though, so good. The grain in Cobain’s voice is so alluring. RIP, off rip 2. Drums fuck on this, love the triplets in the chorus and toms in the post chorus. Can’t say enough about Cobain’s vocals and lyrics, incredible stuff— that roar going into the chorus gets me stoked every time. Mix is a touch flat, but not horribly so. Guitar solo is dope. Can’t shake the feeling the song should be like 2 clicks faster. 3. God fucking damn dude these three tracks being the first three on the project is just insane, just about the strongest start to an album you could possibly ask for. Something about the lyrics of this are really compelling, and Cobain’s choice to flip the norm and have more grain in the verses and more smooth timbre during the hooks really work. Wish the drums were a bit more ambitious. Just a great song overall, though, that guitar tone is so Biblical dude, got that black metal kinda tone. Killer track 4. To be a bit critical, this driving sort of pseudo-metal kinda thing is a little trucker rock, but the crunch of the guitar is dirty in the best way and I like the hook. Could do without the repeated lyrics during the verses. I worry the song form of verse-chorus-verse-chorus-solo-chorus is gonna wear thin by the en fo the album, but in the other hand there’s so many pre and post chorus thingies that maybe it won’t matter 5. Oh yeah dude forgot this song was on this record, what a crazy project. Cobain makes “Yeah” a legitimately successful hook, which is, you know, stupid cool. Feel like there could be a little more instrumental heft when things really kick in. 6. Besides the crashes being weird af and totally unnecessary, I really liked this acoustic take. Gave cobain room to breathe and really grab the attention, though I feel maybe he could have taken even more advantage of the opportunity— it all comes out a bit textureless? Still, good 7. Yo this rips, did not know they had this punk in them to this degree. Bit of Fugazi DNA? Love the screams, but Grohl steals the show, so good 8. It’s like, good rock guitar chord progression, chorus is pleasant. Just not much distinct, not much worth coming back to. The buildup could be that, but just feels like it’s a little forced— I like some of the choices they make, but the textures end up feeling disparate from the otherwise by-the-numbers instrumentation and vocals 9. This band has some serious range, I hear a bit of British Invasion here. Cobain is firmly grungey, but the band around him really takes his talents in cool directions. Love the screams juxtaposed with such a poppy hook 10. Meh. I’ll use this chance to say the mix on this record is great— the snare on this track sounds absolutely incredible. Love Cobain just losing his shot for a second after that lil bridge thing. 11. The four-chord progressions are really getting stretched thin— what happened to the first five song’s flexibility in riffs and central ideas? Second half of this album would feel samey without some really good individual performances, most often by Cobain. Here, though, “I’m on a plain / I can’t complain / I’m on a plain” isn’t exactly scintillating lmao 12. Oh yeah wish this was the closer to the album honestly. What a great piece of music, the buildup is just immaculate, and love the addition of a strings section- it and the backup vocals really sell the tension. The acoustic guitar is so well miked, I can hear the strings and pick’s/fingers’ (I think it’s the latter’s) texture so clearly, really cool touch. 13. Wiiiild guitar tone, trashy as fuck. This is the kind of song I’m talking about when I’m speak on distinctiveness, they put every fabric of their bodies into this performance man. I take back what I said about the last song, this is a great closer for this album. This shit must have been incredible live.
Great album, many bangers
Haven't listened to the "b-side" of this album in years, but it was still a good listen.
Lots of great songs on this album, and no real misses. Forgot how good it is, was one of the first CD’s I owned
while i wouldn’t say that this was the first grunge album, this was the first album that brought grunge music to the mainstream. their output was extremely limited (nirvana only put out three studio albums), however their impact was huge. sadly, kurt’s life ended in april 1994 from suicide. r.i.p. highlights: “smells like teen spirit” “in bloom” “lithium” “something in the way”
Classic, groundbreaking... Not really my style, but can't deny the quality
It’s pretty good but by no means great
Amazing. The OG punk album
geil! ich han nur smells like teen spirit und come as you are kennt. aber in bloom isch so schön, d basslinie isch so überraschend und gfallt mer mega. breed isch mer chli zu hektisch. lithium gfallt mer au sehr guet, de ruhig teil und de sehr unerwarteti drop sind nice. polly au nice. territorial pissings wiederum zu hektisch für meinen geschmack (oder auch für einen jetlag-kopf). drain you macht igendwie nöd so vill mit mir, aber ich find es passiert recht vill guets und de experimentelli teil wo denn wieder in refrain inegaht gfallt mer. lounge act und stay away hani iwie gad nöd so zueglost. something in the way findi super, en krasse kontrast mit sim ruhige charakter zu allne andere songs ufem album, aber überhaupt nöd langwiilig, im gegeteil träg-melancholisch ufe sehr schöni wiis. endless nameless findi schwirig, d schrei-teil gfalled mer nöd und die teil zwüscheddine sind zwar biz e erlösig aber nöd de song wo mer am beste gfallt.
I listened to it but it won’t let me move on yet Lmao okay now it loaded. Excellent, of course
Great album, the only preventing me from giving this a full five stars is that I'm not the biggest fan of "Smells Like Teen Spirit." I've heard this track being played one too many times on the air, that I can't bear to hear this anymore.
Truely a monumental album that changed rock music.
liked some of the songs but didn't care for some of the them also.
Potent and important. The energy and angst still sound so fresh. My main knock is that some songs in the second half sound like rushed rehashes of classic material on the first half. I would have happily cut “territorial pissings” and “lounge act” specifically and turned them into b-sides. It ends with the amazing double punch of the reflective “something in the way” and demented “endless, nameless” perfectly showing to us two tiny versions of the band within the band.
This was in heavy rotation in my playlist in the 90s. As time wore on, I found that I was not that into the gunge scene, and it grew tiresome. I have not listened to this for many years. It is an enjoyable album, if not somewhat overrated. It was still fun to revisit and the hits alone are enough for 4 stars.
It’s classic.
Great album I've heard too much
It's a good listen now, it's not that I hate nirvana, it's the fans I cannot stand
I feel like it'd be hard for me to not give this album at least a 4 - it's a classic, you know it, you've heard Teen Spirit, you've seen the cover. And it's hard, listening to it, not to understand why it's a good album - it doesn't really feel like it has a lot of bad parts to it, it's pretty tight and good. But I also don't feel too much about it, maybe if Nirvana was my band I'd rate it higher. Still, a good album in which it's hard to find a bad part.
I've spent a lot of my life telling people that Nirvana are overrated. I still believe it, But slightly less.
It’s one of the best, good songs. Some underrated classics. SLTS is still good despite being overplayed to hell.
Come As You Are, Polly, Stay Away.
While I was never a “Nirvana guy” even though I’m the exact right age, I still can’t deny many of these songs. 4/5
An amazing album but man does the rest of its tracklist live in the shadows of its singles, barring Something in The Way which is epoch defining.
8/10 - I can very clearly see why this is one of the top albums. A lot of bangers all the way through. The last song was pretty bad but apparently it is a bonus track. I also did not like Something In the Way which was surprising to me.
solid album
Pop rock at its best
One of my favs from the 90s!
All time classic and remember the day I first heard this album. At a BBQ and a friend import. Was over it by the time the rest of Australia had discovered it.
Oh dang. I don’t know if I’ve ever listened to the album from start to end. So good.
Hard to believe this was 34 years ago.
ohhhhh… i get it now.
There’s a reason everyone talks about it. Near-perfect rock album.
It’s not bad just wildly overrated. Enough good songs to be a good album but not close to the best of its genre as some people say it is.
I was always more of a Pearl Jam/AiC grungehead than Nirvana -- but this sure holds up as a prime example of the period. Five straight bangers to start the album before things start to go a little sideways. Polly, Pissings, Lounge Act, Stay Away -- none of them really click for me, nor does the closer. But it doesn't change the fact that it's a damned masterful album and still a good listen.
Pretty classic album, could really feel the moody atmosphere and angst that Kurt Cobain wanted to express through this album, was just a bit too much angst for me though, still has some great tracks overall
★★★★¼
Such a good album.
I still prefer In Utero, but it’s good.
I was not a teen in 1991, but if I was, this woulda been brain-meltingly awesome. I was a teen in the next decade, and it was still pretty close. Kurt and the boys gave the world a real kick in the dick with this record. It’s so much slicker than their earlier music, but it’s also just grungy enough to sound extremely pissed off. Krist and Dave were fantastic, and even Kurt’s simple guitar was good for the style. His voice was iconic. I really don’t care if I ever hear Teen Spirit again, but it’s still a true classic. Drain You and Lounge Act are the only tracks I’ve consistently come back to over the years and I listened to those happily today. I can’t give it five stars, even though it probably deserves it. Sorry fifteen year old Ross.
There are two types of 5/5 albums in my opinion. Type A is where the entire album is one cohesive unit that you listen to from start to finish and feel a sense of satisfaction. Type B is the one where each song is just straight up banger after banger. Nevermind was so so so close to being both types, but Endless, Nameless just ruined it for me. I'll be crucified for saying this but I genuinely think it could have been dropped from the album entirely and it would have made no difference. And yes I know, the people who suck the ghost of Kurt Cobain's dick will come after me and say that Endless, Nameless is the ultimate representation of Nirvana's chaotic and grungey vibe and it channels the band's raw emotions but I actually had to check to see if my headphones hadn't shat itself. 4.5/5
Never super got into Nirvana, or so I thought. This album started and I already knew all the songs. It’s impressive how many classics are in here, but a few stragglers that don’t keep up
Excellent
I was not a fan of Nirvana when they were around and thought at the time and still to this day that they were overrated. Nevermind wouldn't be the album it would become had Teen Spirit not become an anthem (bonus points if you know what Teen Spirit is/was). However, while there were better bands that wore the cap of Grunge/Alternative better than Nirvana, that doesn't distract from the monster that Nevermind is. Top 5 album of all time? No, more like lower top 20, but still a great album that launched many anthems that described perfectly what it was to be a wayward youth in the 90s. 4.5/5
Such a great 90's album. Solid performance all the way thru
Obviously a gamechanger. They always say how this album and grunge spelled the end of hair metal, and while they is sort of true, What it truly spelled the end of was the 80's. The raw sound of three musicians and their instruments took over as the slick synthetic 80's sound went out of vogue. (for the most part. Some of that stuff stuck around for a bit, some of it evolved, but let's stick with the story) Apart from the "important cultural moment" of this album is the fact that is just a damn good rock album. At this point in my life I could never hear the hits from here again and be fine. But the 1, 2, 3 punch of "Teen Spirit" "In Bloom" and "Come as You Are" is honestly quite ana amazing way to open this album up. Of those three and other hit "Lithium" I've always preferred "Come As You Are" (Ironically cribbed from Killing Joke's 'Eighties'" Nowadays I like the deep cuts. Though when talking an album of this stripe it's hard to think any of the songs are buried "deep"
Some good tracks. Gets a bit screamy towards the end
Very good album. This is the Nirvana album that served as my introduction to the band along with the vast majority of the world. All the songs are good or great. Except “Endless, Nameless”. I didn’t care for that much.
Well now, I know there are those here who are less than overjoyed with this album. Because they 'sold out' by making it. But it propelled them into the big time and made them a household name for a while. I believe their drummer even went on to have a proper career in music with some other band. Back to this album. You can still hear the where the roots of it lie, it's just a little more grown up than their early stuff. Would I buy it? Already have. Is it a perfect album? Not by a long chalk! But worth a 4.
....
Side one of this iconic album is hit after hit, but side two keeps from giving this one a 5. It strays from the incredible melodies that make the hits so memorable.
Classic
Unlike many of their contemporaries - and followers - this still feels pretty spry. It moves. I give a lot of credit to Dave G. And the innate pop sensibilities that permeate throughout. Accessible without compromise.
Definitely loved the first half of the album more than the second. I knew more songs on this than I thought I did. I liked the MTV Unplugged Nirvana album we had last year better than this, but still a solid 4.
The first six tracks are great, the latter seven NSM, especially the final one. Still, a nice job all round.
85% Best: Smells Like Teen Spirit; In Bloom; Come As You Are; Lithium; On A Plain; Something In The Way Must-Hear? Sure. If you somehow haven't heard this album, the hype is real.
Probably closer to 5 than 4
In Utero is better
Nice nostalgia, some songs gave me anxiety
Required listening for sure. I enjoyed it more now then at time of release due to being overplayed
Nirvana, ersti zemefassig chan ich relativ simpel halte: iconic band, iconic band name, und vor allem iconic album cover. Hello hello … Entertain us Amaladoo amaladoo … Ja ich has immer eh banger gunde und nei han nie verstahnde was da gsunge wird und hed mi au komischerwiis nie interessiert. Isch halt scho nöd mis genre to go.
Classic, great album
I don't think there's any denying the impact Nevermind and Nirvana had on grunge, the music world in general, and teenagers. Nirvana thrust grunge forward; grunge already existed in 1991, but the sound on this album didn't exist. The lyrics and themes are what make Nevermind so impactful to this day and definitely back during its release. Sure, some is very emo teenager-y and maybe cringe, but that doesn't mean bad. Some of the second half of Nevermind falls flat somewhat, especially when there's such an explosive first half. But with "Smells Like Teen Spirit" as the first track, keeping the same momentum is difficult, especially given the teenage anthem it has become. Still, I found myself enjoying the second half because these were songs new to my ears.
Smells like teen spirit и Come as you are, конечно, культовые. Но фаворитами стали Breed за совершенно сказочный бас и Something in the way за затягивающую атмосферу. А Endless, Nameless что-то по-настоящему ужасное.
Iconic cover but I've definitely never intentionally heard any of the songs on this album. Immediately with Smells Like Teen Spirit tho I 1: Recognize a song that I could've never listed as Nirvana, just a general yeah I know it 2: Hear an insane amount of what would've been inspiration fuel for music I listened to in my post 2001 birth youth. Progressing further in the album, I just dont find much enjoyment in this kind of music beyond a one off. I can see why it is so loved tho. It is well done and every song is as good as the last.
classic album
yeah it was aight
Classic
I’ve had this album pretty much since it came out and playing it back I’ve realised that for most of that time I’ve been skipping through and only playing the “good” bits! So it’s like hearing it for the first time and I’m not that impressed to be honest! Of course all the “hits” are there but some of the bits in between aren’t great but to be fair if you crank it up and bang your head about while playing air guitar or drums it’s fuckin’ ace!
Tunes of a generation
Decent album but a little overrated
Would definitely listen again; took me a long time to come around to Nirvana, but now I think I’ve achieved the requisite suffering to appreciate it and these guys really rock; favorites: in bloom, come as you are, something in the way. Oh Kurt, what could have been!
I have actually never listened through this entire album, but yeah it's a classic. Not the biggest fan of grunge, but i really doesn't matter when most of these songs are just amazing pop hits with a bunch of distortion. The only reason this album is not a 9+ is that i simply don't enjoy the sound of it that much, but if i was a teenager in the 90's i would hail Kurt as our new anti-establishment king, this album must have been so refreshing to hear at that time
Really great album that I grew up to listening
When you rock albums starts a whole movement that defines the beginning of an entire decade, I think you earn yourself a spot on the top albums of all time. Defining act of the 90s and a true showcase of how even simplistic, riffs and solos can go so hard. Mind Blowing listen. Fave Songs - Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are, Endless Nameless
great listen and a kick back to grunge
Have already heard and enjoyed Smells like Teen Spirit. Like the riff of Come as You Are, sounds like a suave, cool type theme. Some songs seem to borrow the guitar riff/progression (Polly, Drain You). Willing to be some are even in the same key. Drums are fun, (esp. Stay Away). Something In the Way is more mellow, but still has element of SLTS
No wonder its a classic, the album starts off with memorable punk-pop anthems and then settles into a softer but nevertheless consistently grungy middle, with a tender Something in the Way to seemingly finish off the album, only to jerk back to the upbeat harshness of Endless, Nameless.
Never thought I'd enjoy a heavy rock/grunge album as much as I did this one. The album could not have got off to a more emphatic start, and it helped hide the fact that with every song that passed my hair was getting longer, my black converse all stars grew grubbier and the pointless chain attaching one bit of my massive jeans to another bit of my massive jeans was getting heavier... and you know what, I was fine with it. My dog walk steadily turned into air-band practice, as I wildly air-drummed and air-guitared my way towards the park.. air-walking the dog in the process, as amongst the flailing, I'd let go of his lead. An old woman complained that I shouldn't have the dog loose, and that she was going to call someone in authority to deal with this four-legged misdemeanour. What she failed to realise was that now I hate authority (fuck the system) and was midway through listening to "stay away", so I casually placed my air-drumsticks down, and air-flykicked her in the chest. My only gripe (other than being driven to hoof the tits off an ancient woman), was that some of the music ended up being a little too much for me, the final song on the album being an example of this. I think the familiarity of some of the songs that I already knew individually helped too. Some of Kurt's vocals seemed to get drowned out or were difficult to catch on a few of the tracks.. although if I had a 12 gauge resting in my mouth I'd probably be difficult to understand too. All in all a solid 4/5 for me. Also if anybody has seen a black and white labrador, please let me know. I don't want the dog, but he did run off with one of my drumsticks and I need that back.
Really enjoyed. Only a few songs on there I wasnt really a fan of and the ones I liked, i really really liked. Something In The Way will always be a standout to me, because personally, I’m vengeance. But all but one song (Breed) on the first half of this album absolutely blew me away (no pun intended, Kurt) There then feels like abit of a lull before it really ramps up and goes out with a bang (pun intended, Kurt).
I've heard this before. This is a seminal album in rock. It's never had the impact on my personally that it has on many others, but I recognize and appreciate why it's important. Grohl's drumming really stands out to me.
I hesitate between a 4 and a 5: for me, Kurt is just writing drivel - look at the lyrics, they're a mess. I'd like a little something more, but people seem to think that he was a genius. Huh? "Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah (etc)" - "I'm on a plain. I can't complain". Wow! Incredible.
One of the grunge classics. It's a little raw though, with some of the live recordings on the extended album showing better depth and musicality. Nonetheless, this album is stuffed full of hits... and a miss or two, like "Endless, Nameless".
Great album...but a little uneven at times, so can't give it a 5.
One of those albums where I seem to have heard most of the tracks without ever having tried to seek them out. Trying to critically listen to a song like Smells Like Teen Spirit is just laughable when it's bled into every corner of culture at this point, but that opening run of tracks is very strong. This is the most like the Foo Fighters they sound to me (is it sacrilege to make that comparison?), and while I'm on the risky statements I'll double down and say Something In The Way sounds like the B side of Heart Shaped Box.
I really liked this but I think I'd need more listens to determine if it's 5 stars.
yeah
If the job of music is to articulate a feeling, this album has done it. Packaging genuine angst, anger, and frustration in poppy punky rock riffs without sounding commercial or insincere is rare and incredibly well done in this album. In my opinion it’s a bit front loaded with the hits but who could blame em
Ну невермайнд это база основа. Кобейн навалил грустинки, бесяки и оров. Крч круто, но панк-рок не в моем вкусе уже
Sang along to many of my old faves but still don’t know the words.
Top stuff
pretty good
I dislike giving this a 4. But compared to lots of other stuff on here, it's pretty good. I was just after Nirvana's prime, so I just know it as overplayed grunge so I get more annoyed by it than anything. 4/5
When this came out I would have rated it a 5. I listened to it incessantly. I was obsessed but now as an old lady I don't get that same feeling and have a hard time getting through this album. Young me would hate old me lol
This is one of those albums that, regardless of your opinion on it, definitely deserves to be in this list. You could argue that grunge changed the course of popular music in the 90s, and this album in particular made superstars of Nirvana (and later Dave Group, who has somewhat become the godfather of 21st century rock). And as it turns out, the album is pretty good - I may be talking as someone who has had these songs in the background of my life, but there's a hell of a lot of bangers on here. I never liked Nirvana growing up, but now I can appreciate the work that's gone into this and the songs that have come out - it can be a bit one-note at times, but that's grunge for you! Faves: Breed, Come As You Are, Lithium
Saved this for a rainy day wowowowowow
Grungy, didn't like it back at the time but it's grown on me since.
Knew it pretty well already, the songs I don’t know as well were worth anew listen but nothing else really stuck out. Brought me back to the 90’s!
If it weren't for the last track, this would be a fine five.
This is how I want to remember Nirvana. Simple, powerful, and just a little beautiful. Except for you Endless, Nameless.
This is good. Can be really head smashing at times. I honestly don’t think there’s that many great songs on here, but it does deserve a 4
Based on t-shirt sales, the #1 band since 1998. More than enough has been said about the music, but why aren’t more people talking about the wiener?
Timeless teenie classic
it's a classic for a reason, loses steam a bit towards the end
I don't like everything about this album, but I like enough. The opening track, "Smells Like Teen Spirit," could very well be the anthem of every generation since the baby boomers. "Come As You Are" and "Lithium" are also both really great tracks. Some of the rest fade to background, but maybe just because they are in the shadow of these.
Brilliant and punky, hard hitting from the start, with some excellent slower tracks that still flow with the rest of the album very well.
What a great way to open an album, the iconic riff of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” catapulting into the next 50-ish rocking minutes. You can completely get the sense of what a game changer this album must’ve been and you can feel its influence on the 90s rock / alt / grunge scene. And the album meets the hype. It’s basically a Nirvana greatest hits album, with so many of their biggest hits just out the gate. There are a few hard-rocking metal-esque scream songs that would be skips for me on another play-through, the final track of “Endless, Nameless” takes the album down a peg for me unfortunately. But if it ended with “Something in the Way,” a favorite Nirvana song, this would be a 5/5.
Overplayed for sure. Sick of something in the way In bloom is great A 4
Obviously a good album, but I do fear I am too young to truly love Nirvana - they've been so oversaturated my whole life, and have lost whatever edge they could have had to me.
Solid. Period.
Good stuff. I liked this in college, although not at the level others did, and I like it now. I like the quiet/loud, the bass, the buzzy sound, and the way the highly singable lyrics match the melody.
10/10
I definitely have some bias here, but Nirvana is always going to be up there for me. I listened to a lot of them in high school when I was in a band myself. I've read several books on Kurt Cobain's life. I can trace my love of the Foo Fighters directly from getting to know Nirvana and their journey as a band. Nevermind is an absolute killer album. Smells Like Teen Spirit is clearly the most popular, but it's definitely not my favorite since its so overplayed. In Bloom, Lithium, Come as Your Are, Polly, Breed, and Something In The Way are the front runners for me. I think what I'll always love about this band was that it was just the epitome of counter culture. It was an absolute middle finger to the glam rock of the 80's, where hairspray was almost as important as the latest synth keyboard (I love 80's rock too, but this is context for how Nirvana came to be). Long live this album. It's stellar.
I would give 5 stars to about half of the songs on this album. A few low-lights for me (though still not bad) were Breed, Stay Away, and On a Plain. I liked how Something in the Way cooled things off for a bit, but I wish it had just ended there. The worst song is Endless, Nameless. Unless you’re into that stuff. Which I’m not. I was debating a 5-star before that, but now I’m debating a 3. I’ll give a 4 because I really enjoyed everything else.
Listening to this album for the first time in 2024 is a lot like finally watching that YouTube video your friend has always been talking about. You know all of the words because they've been said to you over and over again. By the time you watch the video you're not sure if you actually like it or if you've just heard "Snape, Snape, Severus Snape" so many time that you just recognize it. I'll don't think I'll ever be able to truly review this album based on my impressions alone. I still enjoyed it, but I'm not sure if that's just because I recognize most of the songs being played everywhere I go. I wish I could experience this for the first time in 1991. Also, who was like "Just throw the naked baby in the pool and I'll take a photo as our cover art"?
I have this album! This is the first one I have listened to in its entirety before. Yay. Now, the age-old puzzle: Is it good because I know it, or do I know it because it's good? Well, I'm not sure. It's not my usual style (the lyrics are kinda ?? and there's certainly electric guitar), but I enjoyed listening again. As a youth there were certain bands that had serious mythos (aka they were on VH1 24/7), and Nirvana was one of those. Do kids of today learn about LFO and Amy Winehouse? They better >:( Highlights: 'Lithium', 'Polly', the line "I don't care what you think unless it is about me" Lowlights: 'Come as you Are' (always bored me), 'Stay Away' (same), 'Endless, Nameless' (I always hated hidden tracks, plus this one has a lot of yelling)
The beginning and ending of this album are truly amazing, but if I’m being honest it drags in the middle.
I have and always will dislike Nirvana's musical choices. However, You can't deny neither the influence of this album nor the unique sound they create. They are in no way overrated or unworthy of their status. It just does not resonate with my taste.
7/10. Some classics. A genre that isn’t really for me but I appreciate this album.
Love it but after a while I find it a bit irritating.
A classic! RIP to Kurt and big shout out to Dave grohl. This album is nostalgic yes but also evokes a visceral emotional state that is quite powerful. Somehow Kurt made me like grunge, probably cause of his incredible lyricism. It’s a 4.5 and iconic
Love the more punk cuts on this, decade defining sound. A
Not so much a tower of song as a monolith of pure sonic regret.
I've never listened to this album in full - so I'm glad I finally got round to it! There's some huge bangers on this album! But also a few of the songs just fell a bit flat for me. I definitely enjoyed this way way more than In Utero though I still think that Nirvana is massively overrated, but I did on the whole enjoy this album 4 ⭐️
4.75
Much better than I remember it. Good rock wit some variation and nuance. I liked it.
#61 "Come As You Are" and "Something In The Way" are amazing, but some of the songs are not that good I think ("Territorial Pissings", and "Endless, Nameless"). In total a great album.
#Daily1001Albums I’ve not listened to this since the 90’s and wondered if it’s aged well. Having given it a couple of listens today, I've found myself liking it more now than I did originally. Some banging tracks on there. Think it definitely has a place on the list
I've listened to this one so many times, so nothing new, but it felt commercial at times. I found myself liking the songs that aren't played on the radio more but still felt the whole album was very good.
Classic
If you don't like this album you're a retarded contrarian hipster, this album fucks. That being said it's not perfect and there's a pretty wide gap between the phenomenal tracks on this album and the good ones 9/10
Man this Kurt Cobain guy is really talented, sure hope he doesn't mistake his microphone for a Remington Model 11 20-gauge shotgun.
I have heard Smells Like Teen Spirit far too many times in my life and honestly it’s a perfectly fine song but I have never been able to get past the word salad lyrics. Nirvana is a lot more than just that song though and there are some great songs on here which show the talent that this band had. Growing up listening to groups like EKV and Haustor it’s fun to see how Yugo rock influenced this album through Krist Novoselic. Some of the songs here like Polly and Lithium I don’t care for that much but I would never skip them on a listen of this album. In terms of musical merit it’s nowhere near the most technically good album of the 90s, not even in the grunge scene but the group understand what makes music entertaining and gripping. Highlights: Come As You Are, Drain You, On A Plain, Something In The Way
Esse álbum simplesmente um marco para o rock. Moldou toda uma geração.
Solid. In love with Kurt Cobain
Not the biggest grunge fan but this is a classic.
An all time classic, gets abit too messy around “On A Plain” I think. But I do like the energy and influence this album has.
Feels more like a meme than an album at this point. No matter whether you love or hate it (or both, if your name is Kurt Cobain), nothing sounded like it before, and hundreds of bands tried and failed to sound like if after. It has the fingerprints of all of the US Indie/College rock and hardcore punk of the late 80s, but the pop hooks from each each member's contribution and the sheen from Butch Vig's production turn it into its own beast.
4. Not every song on this album is perfect. Some are hard to get through. Especially that last song. Woof. My ears hurt.
Smells Like Teen Spirit é bem chatinha... Faixas favoritas: In Bloom Lithium Territorial Pissings
I spent many years poo-pooing Nirvana, mostly because their fanbase is hollow and pretentious. However even I can't deny that this album isn't special - it's lightning in a bottle, and re-invigorated rock music in the 90s. The last 30 years of music would have undoubtedly looked very different without this record, so I will gladly concede that younger me was very wrong.
Classic.
Smells Like Teen Spirit - 7.5 In Bloom - 7.5 Come As You Are - 7.6 Breed - 7.4 Lithium - 6.5 Polly - 6.3 Territorial Pissings - 7.5 Drain You - 6.6 Lounge Act - 7.0 Stay Away - 7.2 On A Plain - 6 9 Something In The Way - 7.0 Endless, Nameless - 7.5
I feel like a bad person
A serious moment in music time. A serious work that propels a combination of moving and thinking simultaneously.
Absolute classic not much more to say. Dave grohl rocks
it was a solid album, pretty good (love smells like teen spirit) however, not really my type of music? good either way though
Lithium still slaps
Now we're talking. Grunge is one of my happy places. Great album with tons of classic songs. Also, apparently, a ton of songs I really don't remember at all. Still a great album.
The bangers are there, but I couldn't help but feel like I only liked half the album. That said, there were some gems I found in here that were outside of the mainstream stuff, but there were some rough tracks on here, too. 'Drain You' is my fave, closely followed by 'Lithium'.
This was much-needed in 1991. Edgy, visceral, heart-rending at times. Just, really interesting. Gone for me was the brief appeal of hair metal; back were grungy, sensitive boys in cardigans like those I'd dated in the 80s. I'm English, and I also remember thinking this was the first time I was aware of something actually "alternative" coming out of the States. (Which of course may be unfair. Just saying how it felt.) I know there were other bands doing similar things, so I don't know if Nirvana were truly original, but they seemed to be, and definitely had a magic formula. Every track is good, and side 1, in particular has lived long in the memory, with every song still evoking an emotional response. I like the riffs, the harmonies, the drums. Kurt was very beautiful. PS I didn't think I was in the mood to listen to this today. I was wrong. PPS I didn't know the last track, which is apparently because it wouldn't have been on my vinyl? I'm not sure I needed it.
Amazing, some tracks are not on the same level as the others such as ”Territorial Pissings” and ”Endless Nameless” which drags it down a tiny bit. A STRONG 4/5.
Världens bästa grunge-album
4 stars but heard a lot
Sounds gigantic. It's a funny exercise to think about being a conservative parent just prior to the grunge era - I think metal and a lot of punk have a goofiness that seems easier to call a phase. This is a fully formed thing blasting in to tell you the world's gonna be different. It'd be terrifying. I think Drain You is still my favourite. It's almost as catchy as Smells Like Teen Spirit but more of itself, doesn't need that big chorus that's both awesome and slightly tongue-in-cheek. The rest is era-defining and deserved to be - of course everyone was gonna chase it, and of course it's too hard so the results are mostly bad/tasteless (Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins,...). Lots of weird tense melodies, fantastic sense for bringing that blues/country interchangeable major/minor 3rd thing to rock hooks. I think I mentioned in the In Utero review I spend more time thinking about Nirvana's songs than any band that I'm not very into. Very good but not beloved by me, current contender for the most almost-5 something can get. oh well, whatever: neverminded. (⌐■_■)
I can’t remember the last time I listened to Nevermind - it stands up surprisingly well. Brought this 40-something dad back to being a young buck who no one ever could or would understand. But seriously, despite the motif of being a misunderstood young person it’s still a strong record, which starts as soon as that guitar hits on Smells Like Teen Spirit.
This album has really, really high peaks and a few misses. Best songs: Smells Like Teen Spirit/Something in the Way/Lithium Worst songs: Territorial Pissings/Endless,Nameless Boring/basic but whatever The riffs are timeless 4.5/5 rounded down
It has some flaws, i believe In Uteros better, however this album is arguably one of the most iconic albums ever made if not the most iconic
When this album first came out, I did not listen to it on regular rotation. It was a bit heavy for my liking. Today, it is still a very heavy grunge album, but I have much more appreciation for it. Great guitars, a well-rounded sound that does stray from the grunge sound from time to time. Still a bit heavy for my taste, but is in my “in the mood” list. Workouts, long distance driving. High 4.
Obviously have heard this before. It was a staple album of my teenage years. Loved it then, love it still. The only track I don't love is Polly - it's ok, not great. Everything else is a classic. The b-side to the record is actually better than the a-side, which is really saying something when all the 4 singles are on the a-side.
Bangers after bangers. Noisy and punk yet immensely accessible. I don't think I need to say anything about Teen spirit, In bloom, Come as you are and Lithium. 10/10s. Territorial Pissings(favourite) and Stay Away (new find) blew my mind. So much energy and madness. The raw power of punk.Polly and Something in The way are hauntingly beautiful. I love Cobain's lyrics. Sounds both deep and nonsensical at the same time. And he's self-aware about that. The songs here make me want to start a band and perform these songs in Cobain style before an audience that includes my crush. Someday.
Smells Like Teen Spirit 4.2 In Bloom 4.5 Come as You Are 4.5 Breed 4 Lithium 4.4 Polly 3.5 Territorial Pissings 3.8 Drain You 4 Lounge Act 4.3 Stay Away 4.1 On a Plain 4.1 Something in the Way 3.4 Endless, Nameless 3.1 Score: 3.992307692
As someone who was a bit too young to register Cobains death, Nirvana has always been there. A dependable band you can be sure most people like. I found love for loud rock around the time Grohl paid homage to Cobain with “My hero”. So I was too young to really grasp the grunge movement as it happened. I’ve always enjoyed Nirvana, but never had that spark in the eye for them. But they sure influenced a lot of bands I listened to in my formative years. Nirvana bridged the pop/punk divide effortlessly on Nevermind.
The only listenable Grunge album.
A classic, love it
Holy shit this album was pretty darn good. I had heard many of these before but it enhanced this experience.
Uh oh. I used to not care for this album when I was younger, but now I actually understand it. I don't like the implications of this.
hell yea
I know this is a classic album but I like about 3 songs. Was never a huge Nirvana fan.
I was waiting for this one to appear on the list. I like Nirvana selectively, enjoy their stuff and for the most part this is a solid record. But it’s not a 5 star for me, an easy 4 though as it’s a classic.
Ah. The cult of Kurt. More pished than the debut but I think not as good as the final. Still its a magnificent mix of radio friendly and hardcore. Solid 4
i'm giving this a 4 but it's one of the most influential albums in my life. 9 flawless tracks in a row. unreal.
something in my shotgun
Favourite so far Liked the kinda experimental falling apart sound of the last track but maybe wouldve been cool on a few other songs Every song was solid (no skips!)
If I hadn’t relistened I would’ve said five stars. But it’s not a perfect album. Very good. Very heavy on the nostalgia for my weed-soaked early teen years but from my middle-aged vantage point that’s not, it turns out, enough for five whole states.
Minne meg om når eg va 10 år
klassiker… nur banger drauf
Songs of my youth.
Every new decade brings something that kicks against the excesses of the previous one. By the end of the 80s we’d grown tired of shoulder pads and overproduced corporate rock, so this album in 1991 was like a breath of slightly whiffy air. It still holds up (mostly) although in retrospect the references to guns on this are painful. It defined a genre, but we’ve yet to see a grunge revival. Anyone who doesn’t like this is a lamestain cob nobbler!
Classic
I'm usually a bit of a Nirvana hater and talk about how I think they're overrated, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden are the only good grunge/Seattle sound bands, etc etc, but re-listening to this album really reminded me of just how damned iconic it all is so I may need to reevaluate my stance
Classic.
This is already more approachable to me than when this first came out. This was so huge when I was \"coming of age\" as a Gen X'er in the 90s in high school, but the popular culture of that era always seemed to pass me by. (ha! even today) I'm familiar with most of these songs already because they've apparently permeated into my core being because of my age and when this album came out. I watched a TON of MTV leading up to this time too, and I definitely remember this \"Smells Like Teen Spirit\" video, it was played all the time. There were a few tracks new to me but I'd say I enjoyed this more than I expected to and would probably revisit it.
I don't enjoy this as much as its reputation would make you think, but it's very solid. I appreciate his ability to write catchy tunes over unusual chord progressions. I think I like In Utero more
can't be denied that this hits! no wonder people are always wearing those shirts fave track: in a plain
Some obvious really great songs on this album - Smells like teen spirit, Come As You Are, Lithium and Something in the way. A few of the others I didn't really gel with. 4 stars.
Finde ich heute überraschend gut. ****
Enjoyable, but it sounds like a collection of greatest hits rather than a complete, interconnected experience. 4
Saw this album pop on the list and was not at all surprised. Iconic and definitive 90s. I remember living on Charlotte Street and when Cobain was found dead it shocked the neighborhood and the world. Side A is untouchable. Side B lags a bit in comparison but just because Side A is so goddamn good. These guys were (some still) are a powerhouse band. To get a parady album cover and song from Weird Al says it all. The Beatles of grunge and more to come on the list for sure...4.3.
It's been a while since I've listened to Nevermind in unison and I forgot just how strong of an album it is. Ignoring how insanely iconic it is for so many reasons, the music hold up really, really well. It is absolutely loaded with hits that are both deserving and stand the test of time. Even the 2 weakest tracks are still good songs that don't detract from the album. Nevermind is cited as one of the most important albums of the 90s and it still deserves all the praise 30+ years later. I was too young when Nevermind (and Nirvana as a whole) were contemporary but its effects are still evident. It has held a cultural presence my entire life and I don't see any reason it wouldn't continue to do so. An absolute gem of an album that deserves the recognition. In a vacuum I'd probably consider Nirvana a little overrated. The are iconic, no doubt, but outside of Nevermind their discography doesn't do much for me. Context is key here as they have been immortalized since Kurt's passing. It's hard to remove any aspect of that from the overall phenomenon that was Nirvana's rise and aftermath. I have friends who list them as their favorite band. I still see Nirvana shirts and posters everywhere. I've always liked, not loved them. That being said Nevermind is incredible. I wouldn't put anything else from their catalog on any lists though. 4.35 stars
Einige Stücke gefallen mir überraschend gut. Lithium Polly Something in the war
Stone cold classic. Not perfect, but damn good.
Classic Nirvana
Great, gritty Nirvana
How do I rate this. Shamefully, I don't think I had ever listened to this whole album. Very little of it was unfamiliar, however, between the radio hits and the Unplugged set. Hard to fairly rate, but it was a good listen and I liked the parts I didn't know.
Not as close to no skips as I thought I remembered, but it is a masterpiece.
I see why they were popular. This hits hard, and "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is a classic for a reason. I've never actually listened to this whole album before, but I would definitely listen again.
broadly: I like this one better than In Utero
This album came out when I was in college and while I enjoyed the songs played on the radio, I never listened to the whole thing. I’m surprised by how much I enjoyed the album. Lots of good riffs and the roughness of KC’s voice. Good stuff.
I really had to grow into this lp. All my friends were goo goo about it but I was not impressed. Well they say you get wiser as you grow older so now I'm a big fan.
Highlights: Lithium, Stay Away, Come As You Are, Smells Like Teen Spirit, In Bloom. In a nutshell: the Pixies ran so Nirvana could fly. If you were like me and were only aware of Nevermind’s singles, find Bleach, play Love Buzz or About A Girl then jump into this album. Two years and a new producer made a big difference, didn’t it? The main criticism I have about Nevermind is that it's front loaded. Polly is okay, I guess. From Territorial Pissings onwards (bar Stay Away), the songs feel like Bleach’s rejected tracks. Nameless, Faceless took me by surprise- absolutely wild noise rock outing. This is something I’d expect from Dinosaur Jr, not Nirvana! Overall, it’s good. Nevermind has earned its spot in the list. I don’t think it’s overrated. However, I’m not convinced Nevermind is the “number one best album of 90’s”. Too much filler to receive that honour. Overall: 7/10
Mit ein paar wenigen Ausnahmen ein sehr gutes Album. Allerdings wieder Rock und damit nicht mein 100% Geschmack.
This is one that has to be on the list cause it defines a whole genre. It's not my favorite but it's still great.
shits not bad
9/10, ну это база
It’s a great album. Catchy tracks, weird tracks, slow tracks that will one day make you think of Batman, it runs the gamut of things an album can do. Though it obviously bears some extra scrutiny now, the depressive edge of the album really pulls you in.
Preety good
What's there to say that hasn't already been said about this album lol. It turned the music industry on its head overnight
whoop
Absolute calassic
Great album but never been my favorite vibe or sound. I expect many will put this as a 5 star but stays a solid 4 for me.
Good up to track 6 and then loses its way.
Beetje veel grunge, maar wel erg krachtig en past goed in zijn tijdsgeest
Not a big Nirvana fan, but this is a great album
I've heard a lot of these songs on the radio -- usually edited, but this is the first time I've listened to it all the way through and despite not being a huge fan of the grunge genre (okay I guess that's not true I do love Pearl Jam and they're considered grunge) its good music. 8/10 Favorite tracks: Something in the Way, Lithium
Nice nostalgic listen. See you in another 10 years
I have heard this many times, but this time I noticed that Mr Cobain can be a little more emotional and sentimental than I had previously given credit for. A different perspective. Sometimes whiny though so 4 stars probably 4.5 if such a thing was allowed.
good production and music throughout, especially at the beginning/loses itself a bit in the end for me.
Classic
Hard not to love, as popular or "popular" as they are. At the end of the day the music is still great
85/100 Favourite Songs: Smells Like Teen Spirit, In Bloom, Come as you Are, Lithium
This album was utterly ubiquitous throughout the 90s so it's hard to be really objective about it but giving it an honest listen through from front to back, it's held up really well and you can immediately see why it was such a massive influence on alternative music - and culture - of the time and the decades that followed. I've had a handful of grunge classics so far but this definitely stands above the others.
pretty much the definition of 90s rock in the best way possible. i love the dirty, grimy vibe that this album gives off, better enhanced by cobain’s gritty and abrasive vocals. i also love the explicit nature of the lyrics, even when discussing simple, innocent topics like love and friendship. great listen, no wonder it gets the hype it receives!
Sicher ein enorm erfolgreiches und tolles Grunge-Album - ein Meilenstein! Ich kannte Come As You Are und Smells Like Teen Spirit, die anderen Tracks sind aber auch nicht gleich eingängig.
I don’t know if I’ve had one that has been so borderline 4/5 before. It was a solid 4 all the way until Something In The Way (banger) tipped it into 5, but then the final track was a pile of wank so falls back into a 4. Simpsons: basically a whole episode
This is a good album, the first 6 songs were all songs I would listen to on the bus on my ipod, whilst on my way to and from school. However feel like the second half let's it down slightly.
I like it, I don’t love it
The grandfather of so much music to come, truly a legendary and influential album by all counts. 4 stars because some songs wouldn't impact the final product if omitted, such as "Endless, Nameless"
This one holds up better than “In Utero” did. Probably their best album
Good album. Listened to this a lot as a teenager, probably my first intro to heavier sounding music & it still hits so hard. It's cooled on me a little bit but is still an album full of bangers. Best Track: Something in the Way Worst Track: Endless Nameless
Thought it wasn't gonna be for me but turned out to be pretty banging! Best Song: Come as you are Worst Song: On a Plain
Lotta bangers
Paar echte bangers, maar sommige beetje te
Fuck yeah
Overrated but still really, really good
4.2 Not my favourite Nirvana but a solid album all the way through. Fave songs: In Bloom, Drain You, Territorial Pissings, Breed
Simply Brilliant in every way
Geggjuð nostalgía auðvitað
