A few of their really great songs, but otherwise not the best
I liked a few songs, but overall just another average-meh album for me.
Ok big vibe and influential sound! Would listen again.
Not my favorite TH album but pretty good

Listened to on 10/29/22 3/5 Favorite song: once in a lifetime This album was prime background music but the more closely I listened the more chaotic it got
Disco mixed with Dexies. Some good songs but not really my bag
Yeah. It’s alright.
Oozing with originality, but a tad too eccentric for my taste.
Great instrumentals, but no more
Already listened to it. Born Under Punches is a banger, Once In A Lifetime i like also.
Some really good tracks, and some others that are less impressive, but not bad. Brings in a range of styles and approaches.
It was very different which made it an enjoyable listen.
I would listen to this again
Starts strong, but the repetition wore me down by the end of the album. The outtake cuts at the end were especially tedious. One of these bands that I should absolutely love, but I'm on the edge about 'em.
This is the third Talking Heads album on this list. Not sure why their albums keep making the list. There were a couple of songs that were recognizable. Like the other albums, it was alright, no need to listen to again.
Good
some good songs.
All rhythm and percussion-based grooves, not so much melody - Once in a Lifetime excepted, there's nothing on here I would ever play again. Disappointing.
Same as it ever was.
Stand out track, once in a lifetime. mixed view in the rest.
Enjoyed the full choruses, African, and funk elements. Fun album.
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Once in a Lifetime is a classic, didn't know any of the others. Not a huge fan of the vocal performance but it's a good listen.
Think I preferred the other Talking Heads album on this list.
Decent
Decent
This is my fourth TH album in the project, and I’m glad I had a chance to hit the prerequisites before arriving at this one. To the uninitiated, this album may seem obtuse, overlong, and hard to vibe with; but those who know the Heads formula, this is the epitome of their free-flowing, organic, and near-improvisational nature. I didn’t find every track on here enjoyable, but those I did fell into such a strong and memorable groove that it’s hard to remove the hooks even hours later.
Like Bowie, another album that I think I should like more than I do. But it was fine.
Considered chaos
I liked this enough to definitely revisit.
You can definitely hear the Brian Eno touch on this one. One of the better Talking Heads Albums. 3/5
was ok as background noise while working, my version had some demo tapped on the end that sounded great
I like that right from the start you *get* the sound. It's fun, energetic, electronic, and unique. David Byrne has had several genius moments in this career. Solid album!
listened to before appreciate the cultural moment but still not a new wave guy
I like some of these songs, and 'Once In A Lifetime' is iconic, but overall I found the album a bit too frenetic and disjointed for my personal tastes. I would probably like it better in the right mood at the right moment; perhaps my response to this album today is affected by the even-more-crazed-than-usual workday.
Always wanted to like more than I did. Some cool stuff though.
Genre: New Wave 3/5 Remain in Light by Talking Heads is one of the most highly regarded albums to have come out in the last 50 years. This album is the brainchild of David Byrne and Brian Eno, two gentlemen who have now both cemented their spaces as titans of new wave, as well as popular music in general. Critics and fans alike view this as the true turn-of-the-decade piece, a musical moment that birthed an entire decades plus of music, on either ends of the enjoyment spectrum. With that being said, I personally thought this album was just fine. Born Under Punches and Once in a Lifetime are mega-bright spots on this album. Two songs that lay the groundwork for hundreds of songs that came after them. The entire decade that followed this album musically was effectively trying to top these two tracks, without ever reaching that peak. However, the rest of the album also fails to come close to those two tracks. The sheer amount of influence this album has is clearly enormous, each song does something that would later be borrowed later in some way by much lesser artists, and the experimental nature of what’s going on here is admirable, but I never felt, or heard, what makes this album so special in many people’s ears. King Crimson’s Discipline borrows massively from this project, Fripp has some explaining to do, but I think that album does a better job of executing what the geniuses behind this album were trying to do here. Goofy, groovy, but with the right amount of technical brilliance. Remain in Light is good, and sometimes great, but I wasn’t quite as impressed as others seem to be.
Rating: 6/10 Best songs: Once in a lifetime
nah fam
I think I've finally accepted that Talking Heads just isn't a band for me. I've listened to a bunch of their albums before and like songs here and there. Hell I loved the podcast U Talkin' Talking Heads 2 My Talking Head (which you should absolutely check out since Adam Scott and Scott Aukerman are amazing) but still just don't dig the band. This is a fine album but not for me.
Not the style of music I seek out usually, but a pretty good listen
A good band, not exactly what Id like a lot, but clearly a step ahead on their times.
Kind of a weird, interesting album. Not really sure how to describe this band or their genre. Obviously have always been familiar with them and knew a lot of songs on the album.
Boring
i was kind of disappointed by this, because I like other talking heads stuff and Once in a Lifetime is obviously a banger. this album was decent, but the really long track length became a bit hard to listen to, and something about the production sounded sort of hollow. 6/10
Can see the appeal but not a great listen for me
not the biggest talking heads fans. Does seem to be the an experimental album.
Rock
First album of the talking heads I ever listened to. Heard of them before, but didn’t know one song. Quitte enjoyed it, not my favourite genre. Contains some good songs. Favourite songs: - Once in a lifetime - Listening wind - Houses in motion
Could not listen to the whole album. It was good anywawy
Tirándole al 4, pero un buen 3.
Not bad! Not super enthralling though, was a little boring.
Talking Heads unlock the funk and bring African beats into the mix - increasing intensity and tension
Gets very repetitive but the tunes were banging Bass lines funky as per Once in a lifetime certi bop
hard to judge like the other album but still good 3.5
musically interesting, arrangements are unique without being a niche genre
Saved Prior: Once in a Lifetime Off Rip: Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On), Crosseyed and Painless Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: Sounds cool but only in spurts. Some of those spurts are song length, most aren't. Dare I say overrated?
Every song sounds like a less fun version of Once in a Lifetime. Just not my jam.
3.5 stars... One of Talking Heads weirder albums. 'Right Start' might be one that I didn't think to save first listen
Sounds quite modern.
some okay some meh
Not my favourite TH album, but enough highlights to keep me happy
Weird timing consider I just had a post-punk album from the same exact year yesterday (The Teardrop Explodes); however, I definitely found this album more interesting and unique. While I don't feel that I am a huge fan of this genre overall, the tracks on Remain in Light were more distinct and detailed which is what I feel is needed to make an album like this work. I also feel like it did not feel dated in the slightest which is always impressive for an album that is more than 40 years old. The track that stood out to me the most upon my first listen was Crosseyed and Painless due to the upbeat instrumentals, and I was surprised to find out that Once in a Lifetime is a Talking Heads song (absolute classic!). Would listen to this one again and also explore the rest of their catalog to see how many other songs I know. 3.5/5.
Kinda boring but it grew on me
Interesting listen. Not a band I usually listen to, but appreciate the complexity in the African rhythms and dense musical landscape the album paints. 3/5 - probably wouldn't listen to again.
It's slightly more enjoyable than 77 but wouldn't put it on again any time soon probably.
Not as good as I expected.
I'm confounded by my experience of Talking Heads after their debut. That was magical; Everything else has been distinctly not. This record picks up quite a bit after Once in a Lifetime (or after I get into the groove). Before then it's a bit too campy and Talking Heads-y for its own good. The turn to a fuller sound is very good for the band, though. Just not the day for me to fall for it. The last two tracks, in particular, make this worth listening to. I could have done with an entire album in that vein.
lite knepigt va
Rock-pop. Ni fu ni fa. Una canción me sonaba.
Typical 80s - drum machine, keyboards and overly british vocals. A bit of a dirge in places but would listen to them again if they were on the radio or something.
i hadn't heard most of these songs and while i think the album is overall solid, i can kind of see why. not much stood out
A pretty cool genre mash up album with great production from Eno, but I only had a few tracks stick with me, mainly Once in a Lifetime
"Once in a Lifetime" by far the most popular but the rest of the album is alright. It generally all sounds the same. 6/10.
i thought it was average. it was incredibly repetitive which was irritating but i didn’t hate it and i enjoyed the music
A little repetitive, but very catchy and groovy. I had only ever heard the song once in a lifetime before now.
I got excited for this album since I love new wave. cool experimental sound
Didn’t love this but tried. I know they’re iconic but aside from this hits I haven’t loved much else
L
Love these guys but this is not their best album. Obviously Once in a Lifetime is amazing though.
not their best
A good album, it wasn’t what I expected as I really enjoy some of the Talking Heads other stuff. Still it was a fun listen.
Classic album talking heads. Not a big fan but Once in a Lifetime is an instant classic
Decent album to play in the background, don’t really have much more to say. 3.5/5
Probably my least favorite Talking Heads album, but it's still alright. 7.6/10 Best Track: "Once in a Lifetime"
not my kind of music
29th June 2021 Listened on my phone while in dad's study burning cds for the car. Quite liked it, it's funky and experimental. David Byrne has an ability to make songs sound like New York.
3/5
Some songs I recognized, but all in all just not my music
This is the third Talking Heads album we've had and I hope it's the last. I rated the others 4 and 3 stars, so they're definitely not horrible. But I definitely feel like I've heard enough of them. The only song I knew of this album was Once In A Lifetime. Most of the songs were not bad, but a couple were pretty annoying such as Fela's Riff and the final track.
"Letting the songs go by" zonder al te veel uitschieters. Leuk als achtergrondmuziek
.
I don’t know if Talking Heads is a group I enjoy actively listening to, but it was good as background music. And I recognized a song! So we’re off to a good start.
Tässä oli vähän kaikenlaista. Funkahtava(?) avaus toimi varsinkin. :D Vahva kolmonen.
02/22 - Yesterday I worked on updating the floor penetration at the penthouse to match the Hilti design specifications. I then added the UL detail to the manufacturing model and coordinated with process piping. I then worked on going through the manufacturing set and aligning our sheets with Train A. Then I picked up a few comments from the DC for Drum Storage and added a set to BB. Overall I though this was a really good album. I didnt realize prior how old of a band the Talking Heads were. I saved a few songs and might revisit this album at a later time to really dive into it.
meh
"Crosseyed and Painless" Released: 1980 (promotional) "Once in a Lifetime" Released: February 2, 1981 "Houses in Motion" Released: May 5, 1981
I liked about half the songs.
I like it... but not my fav Talking Heads album. 3.5
Love House in Motion and Once in a Lifetime. It's such an interesting and unusual sound, and David Byrne's delivery fits perfectly. It's close to a 4, but a lot of the tracks aren't quite as memorable.
Cool to listen to, but not really my jam.
Don't know much... beside their claissc track Psycho Killers. Top Track: Crosseyed And Painless
Bijzonder bandje, moet zeker hun hits vaker luisteren
I've got nothing against raggae, but it's just enough to listen to in while working
NOT MY TASTE
Born under punches nije los, i once in a lifetime poznat
Definitely the most interesting album so far. Super experimental, it's incredible this was even mainstream popular. Several songs I actually liked, but most are just like "what the fuck is this"
Lots of really interesting sounds that sound like no other music. Very engaging, and there's that one really good tune, 'Listening Wind' that I haven't heard before. An enjoyable listen all round.
Lidt for mærkeligt.
3.5 stars
Solid grooves, s/o to Pat for recommending this before
i know ive heard this band before but i cant remember which song (checked one familiar song is Road to Nowhere pero i dont think this is the version that I know (verified, release the sunbird version yung alam ko)) 1st song - there seems to be 2 overlapping songs, i had to pause to make sure smth else is playing somewhere THERE. by listening to the album's radio, i found out that i knew them from This must be the place (THAT intro, i realized talkingheads usually has unique intros i like it)
Repetetive.. meh
meh not for me
Okay
Besides “Once in a Lifetime” this was largely extremely dull and tedious. Extremely forgettable substance-less krautrock-lite
2.5 One great song.
I'm stiiiiiiiiiiiill waiting for the song to get interesting. I could sorta almost get into some of these songs. But then they'd get obnoxious and undo their hard work for me. They're also too long. I feel like this is where Tool got their inspiration from. What if we do a song that's ok, or even enjoyable. Then just play is 2-3 times in a row without changing anything. That'll really sell.
Its experimental, its funky. Its just not my thing. Not mad to have listened to it but wont be putting it on again. I can see why its important for musical history but i prefer others takes.
12 songs Every song was pretty tiring to get through ngl. Now, put 12 of them back to back, and you can imagine how much of a joy this was.
Not my vibe honestly, afro punk, good introduction, ig I'm not ready for it rn, maybe revisit sometime when I'm more mature. The beats are hype tho
Not for me I feel like the tracks don’t really go anywhere and just kinda float along, which is probably done intentionally but still just not for me.
Groovy, polyrythmic, experimental.
Once In a Lifetime and Seen And Not Seen are good, everything else sucks and is very annoying.
Not my favorite Talking Heads album, but it's still had notable tracks on it
i don’t think i like the talking heads bery much…
80s love but all a bit meh. Surprised at this.
too many bongos
Hate the noises on the first track Every song sucks except Once in a Lifetime 1.5/5
I didn’t particularly like anything about it. Some songs might have been fine, but I don’t feel like listening again to form a more nuanced opinion. I mostly disliked or didn’t care about the songs.
Also too loud and too much for me
okay, pretty experimental. i thought the fela influence was really cool to hear and recognize
Third Talking Heads album on the list, third two-star rating on my part. Not looking forward to a fourth album. Danceable in an annoying way, and the songs go on for too long
unfathomably mid, what the hell is the appeal
Pretty alright. Good energy, but nothing grabbed me.
It's interesting. First song sounds like someone with psychosis singing along to the sound of tipping a bucket of clock springs and tin cans downstairs. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Then I heard some bleep bloops and thought.. Eno must be involved. I checked wikipedia, and he was. It starts making sense. I don't mind weird production like this, I don't have a fear of this sort of music. That being said, Crosseyed and Painless is forgettable, it sounds like background music from a 90s kart racing game for the playstation. It's got interesting guitar. On a repeated listen it holds up better. The Great Curve is like, it's fine? But there isn't really much to it. The runtime was too long for what it was and it was immediately forgettable. Once in a lifetime is amazing. 10/10. The only song on the album that is so far worth the hype. Houses in motion is boring. It's kind of funky but ultimately goes nowhere. Seen and not seen is atmospheric and artsy but again, boring. This is a boring album with one good song. I hope it picks up. I guess I just don't like Talking Heads. Bummer. This album is so boring, when it's not being repetetive and staccato boring, it's being dirgey atmospheric boring. The last 2 songs were a slog to get through. I just didn't get any enjoyment from them, nothing happened, they started boring and maintained the boringness without any development for the entire unnecessarily long, bloated, padded track lengths. This album has Once in a lifetime and Born under the punches, and apart from those two gems, the rest of it is pretentious, boring, looped, monotonous, filler. Disappointing. I thought I would enjoy this more but I am thoroughly unimpressed.
It’s too much going on Idk I could’ve liked it but it’s not an easy listen
I'm in the minority, but this is easily my least favorite Talking Heads album. Eno's production is heavy handed and the infusion of Afrofunk leaves you with a record that sounds nothing like anything in their discography. It may be a critical darling but there's a reason why it's their worst selling album.
It was mid
Mostly noise only 1b good song
good as background music, but not my cup of tea
what a weird album
Not Ford me
too busy
Okayish but not great
Somehow the music by this band goes right over my head.
once in a lifetime is goated but this shit is too grating to listen to for 40mins
Some hits some misses on this
I do not like this album other than Once In A Lifetime. Otherwise, this album is forgettable to me.
I know this. This is the one where every track is based on a repeated riff or groove, right? The question is, is the music any good? Sometimes.
like but a little boring
Not a bad background music or a movie soundtrack, but not something I would have put on and listen to on a daily basis 🙃
sucks
It’s ok, one great song on board
Thought id enjoy this more to be honest, honestly fairly dull.
Baffled as to how this is so highly regarded Best Song: Once in a Lifetime Rating: 4/10 Stars: 2
Days Go By is okay but otherwise not great
No fue de mi agrado
weird stuff
Not really my jam. Was just background noise for me.
This is my second Talking Heads. I didn't like the first. This one's a bit better, but overall, it confirmed that I'm no Talking Heads-head. The album is listenable, but it never lifts off for me. Even the "big hit" is something I felt a subtle urge to skip through half way.
I don’t know. Talking heads has some good work but this was not for me at all.
Did not go through full album as it sounded monotonous
Kinda interesting, but also kinda boring....idk man. I zoned out. Listening wind reminded me of Gorillaz which is nice ig. Overall, forgettable
How can they create such a masterpiece like a Talking in your sleep and then this is the rest of their discography. This is the second album by them I am listening to, that was recommended to me by this app and I don't see why it is here. It's just mid if not bad.
Nice Album. Some things I liked, some things I would never want to listen to again.
1.7/5 Not sure what the hype is about this album. I found it pretty boring and only the hit single was half decent.
Bored with this sound
:3
2.5
Not really my style.
Feels very much of its time. Not for me
Whatever
Not my cup of tea
It was fun. I like this better than the last one!
This may be harsh but it seems to me that for each song, they find a riff, play it to death, David Byrne adds some random words and a few yelps, and then they move on. I'm no musician, I could be terribly and quite unreasonably wrong, but hey, what if I'm right?
Like the one sone that made it famous, the rest are forgettable.
Mediocre
It’s was okay. Interesting first pick.
Not good
Ikkje så stor Talking Heads-fanboy
Not my cup of tea
Very meh. One good song because it's famous.
Once in a Lifetime and Listen to the Wind are fabulous, but the rest of the collection feels like it's coming from a different and less accessible place A recurring theme for me with TH albums Okay
Once in a Lifetime - Pretty Good I enjoy how the album starts upbeat and transitions to the slow dreamy vibe in the second half. This might not be the right genre for me, but it's cool as a project.
not my cup of tea..
sorry but that was so mid… i just don’t like hard rock like that
Not my thing
2.5 3
Ratings: 5: I will happily play this album anytime 4: I may occasionally play this album of my own free will 3: I will happily listen to this if someone plays it in the background 2: I will tolerate this if it is playing in the background 1: I will leave the room if someone plays this in the background Beyond Once in a Lifetime (which is a fantastic song) the rest of this album has never clicked with me.
talking heads are the group that it pains me the most to not connect with but this one did nothing for me...i would literally rather listen to brian eno's hold music at this point
this is so 80s but like ok! LMAO
2/5 really weird and unexpected in a bad way. too experimental best: -
Ihan kivan kuuloista. Musiikkityyli ei ehkä sellaista mitä yleensä kuuntelen. Mikään kappale ei oikein jää mieleen. Biisit melko samankaltaisia keskenään. Once in a Lifetime ja Listening Wind oli parhaimpia.
Yet another album that's loved and celebrated, and I hated it
this was so bland and boring I couldn’t believe my ears. Skipped a few songs half the way through.
Not for me
experimental n ruminating not my cup of tea
Once in a Lifetime is a certified banger, but the rest of the album was just so-so for me. Not a huge fan of David Byrne's talk-singing vocals. Backing vocals are good, instrumentation is sometimes very good, sometimes overly busy and repetitive.
Very experimental, I could listen to it when in the mood, but I think it is not my fav album of theirs. I like the other one "Fear of music" more.
Brian Eno's influence on this album is obvious, and I wish it wasn't. Still not as bad as an actual Brian Eno album though. Supposedly the instrumentals were influenced by Fela Kuti, but they're certainly not as good.
Obvious hits once in a lifetime and houses in motion, but otherwise not for me.
Didn’t really listen tonit
This is another artist that I need to reconsider whether I actually like them or not after listening to a full album, or whether I just need the hits. “Once in a Lifetime” is great. The first half of the album is tolerable. The rest is just a bit too weird for me to like that much. I’d probably give it 2.5* if I could, but it’s not a 3* album.
Second consecutive post-punk album in a row, but at least as this is Talking Heads, it'll be a little bit funky and a little bit odd. Also, you know, it includes Once in a Lifetime... ... well that was disappointing. 2 stars, solely for Once in a Lifetime. 2/5
Nothing makes me feel crazier than thinking Talking Heads are grating and overrated when most people think they're on par with The Beatles
Boring
Really good first half, unfortunate drop off in second half.
Not my thing
5/10 not bad first listen, just not what im looking for when it comes to music
it was fine. not really my favourite tho
"post punk white funk" Ouais, non, ça ira.
Having only heard the radio singles for Talking Heads, this album wasn’t what I thought it might be. Once in a Lifetime is good, but the rest is not for me. Repetitive and monotonous beats with David Byrne’s droning voice on songs that were far too long for that.
Once in a lifetime is a great song, love the video with David Byrne's goofy dance. Rest of the album didn't hit for me. Most songs felt like 4 measures of music played on a loop with the occassion vocal and guitar lick. It was all good and fine I just found it repetitive and honestly a bit bland.
Not the vibe for me. got three songs in and thought yeah nah
I don’t know why, but I don’t really connect with this album. I like once in a lifetime and the opener, but the scary, funky stuff is not really my vibe. I feel like on most of the songs, the grooves, or not that memorable catchy, and they go on for a very long time. It’s highly creative, but I leave not having enjoyed it
-okay something different and that i am at least some what interested in -okay come on can i just get a normal album for once this is showing me 70s is a decade where there’s only a very specific sound i like -born under pressure no thanks -crosseyed and painless is better but still not very good -the great curve is fine -wait i know once in a lifetime and i like it -houses in motion is fine -seen and not seen is okay -listening wind is surprise surprise fine -i kinda like the overload
… bof
I’m disappointed that the only song that really sounded good was the radio song that I knew from this album.
Un peu trop experimental à mon goût
I guess this is what Fela Kuti would sound like if he was a bit crap. Don't get me wrong, this was pleasant enough to listen to, and the Brian Eno touches could be heard throughout. But it wasn't a patch on Fela Kuti, and I would never go out of my way to listen to this again. The big hit was overplayed to the point of becoming annoying, so there's that too I guess. Pleasant in parts, but aimless, and grew tiresome by the end. I'm kind of glad that I got a chance to listen to some Talking Heads, as I've often been told that they're amazing. But if this is their magnus opus, then they're definitely not for me. Two stars.
meh 2/5
Sure this is crazy, cool, experimental, unique, and sophisticated. But so were Bored Ape NFTs. Just because the album is all of these things, doesn’t make it a good listen. Maybe some day this will click for me, but for now it just feels like it’s too excessive in its pompous, yet nerdy chaos. Shout out Once in a Lifetime music video though
Pretty repetive and boring, some good bass and guitar parts
I appreciate the talent of the Talking Heads but I can't get into their choppy vocal style.
It was ok, it has the same as it ever was song, I’m not a huge fan of new wave stuff, though. Didn’t particularly speak to me
Very surreal and dramatic with some spookiness. Like the high energy but where are the drops? 😞 This album made me tired.
Was worried about the alblum when I saw it come up. It was an interesting listen. It might have been the first time i listened to thier "non hit" songs.
Even with Once in a Lifetime, this does relatively little for me. It's not bad, but I just don't really want it.
Please let this be the last talking heads album I get. There are wayyyy too many on this list
To me this album is what anxiety feels like. Very chaotic, nervous energy and just a lot going on at once. This is my second Talking Heads album and I'm still not big fan of David Byrne's voice. There were some good grooves and bass playing on this album. I’d give this a 2.5 but in rounding down to 2.
Once in a Lifetime is good, but prophetic.
I really like them but this isn’t my fave album…
Didn’t enjoy it.
Not for me. The songs do grow on you after awhile: they need a minute to get into the groove. Best tracks IMO are Crosseyed and Painless, and The Great Curve.
Talking Heads are one of those bands whose music I did not know well beyond their hits. I've found that in some of these cases, the rest of the band's catalog tends to be different in an interesting and sometimes better way. This is not one of those times... I found this album grating and almost too experimental for its own good.
Except for once in a lifetime, I find this boring. Many of the songs have a cool sound or groove, but then repeat it monotonously for way too long.
It’s not my jam.
Just like the other Talking Heads albums on this list, I find this a borderline excruciating listen. It just pushes all the wrong buttons. Once in a Lifetime is not that bad though, especially in the context of the rest of the album, so 2 stars.
Didn't finish. Kind of boring, but I can imagine this being super cool while coked out in the early 80's.
Pretty boring, didn’t get much out of this one. 2.25/5
A good album, not personally my taste
Still don't get them. Some flashes of fun but never convinces
I don't get it.
I don't like this one. I don't completely hate it so I'll give it 2 stars.
Eh, not particularly my thing but I get why people like it.
Funkier than some of their output. Lyrics and vocals suggest anxiety, frustrations and paranoia. Some tracks somehow manage to be both frantic and overlong. Aside from the banger that is Once in a Lifetime (which was the same as it ever was), I enjoyed Houses in Motion and the more commercial Listening Wind, whereas Crosseyed and Painless was a bit claustrophobic.
One of the first Albums I bought as a 14 year old was Little Creatures which I quite love. I have also seen David Byrne live. In this context I am quite underwhelmed overall by Talking Heads and don’t actually like David Byrnes voice. So there!
Tossed up between two and three, but eventually landed here. Only song that grabbed me was Once in a Lifetime, apart from that it just felt like background guitar for an hour.
I liked some of the jammy songs but damn that David Byrne what a bozo. He ruined most of the songs with dumb voice. And what about those stupid suits with shoulder pads… give me a break.
Horrible stuff. 1.5/5
i found this one really hard to get through, obviously once in a lifetime is the stand out track but the rest didn’t really do much for me
I thought I was going to like this album a lot more than I actually did. I only liked two of the songs and one of them was their MAIN song. The rest of them sounded exactly the same.
Sigh. I admit that this album is obligatory. I admit that Once in a Lifetime is a good song and a smash hit. I admit that the album is creative, unique, and influential. Now, can the rest of you please admit that this era of new wave/post-punk "rock" (just threw up in my mouth a little calling this rock) was akin to an actor audibly farting during a performance of Romeo & Juliet. It's interesting, kinda funny, but generally contributes nothing positive and probably actually hurts the overall performance. Influence, sure. Quality, yeah, that's its best argument. Hits, you got one. While it's the only new wave album that I think I respect, that doesn't mean I like. it. 2? 1.5?
only one good cut. They have done better
This album wasn't my favorite. It had some good catchy moments, but there is something about their vocals that I just can not get into. They are too.... "dark" for me? Maybe? I am not sure what it is. The songs also seem to go on a little too long for me. Overall it wasn't bad. Probably a solid 2.5. Liked Songs: "Crosseyed and Painless" , "The Great Curve" , "Once in a Lifetime" , "Houses in Motion" , "Double Groove"
Almost entirely forgettable. I understand how it could have been important in 1980 but it just doesn’t hold up for me.
Pas marqué plus que ça
Could just say refer to my reviews of fear of music and talking heads 77 cause that’s three albums from these guys that have just been dull, sure there are a few decent moments but it’s not enough to make it a good album. 2 stars
I respect Talking Heads way more than I like listening to them.
Maybe it's because I'm coming straight from Repeater, but I didn't care for this album. Not my cup of tea
I mean its aight, not my style.
Better than 77. So close to being 3 stars.
Strange album, Cover looks like they are balancing individual hams on their faces. Would listen to to fall to sleep 👌
Macy's
I’m sure someone can connect with it! It seemed like it took a lot of work. I really don’t have any idea what happened to my ears though. Really flabbergasted.
Don't like the main singer's voice. Instrumentals are okay, but not totally my jam.
Very medium, completely passable.
The line between God Tier Revelatory New Wave and complete dogshit is RAZOR thin. Talking Heads have yet to make the cut
Massively overrated, mainly for David Byrne. Musically, it’s good but he’s just so fucking annoying.
Not good
Unfortunetaly, I didn't like it as much as I hoped I'd do. I guess I don't have to love everything.
The entire album is monkey business except for The Overload, which is absolutely gorgeous. Drone out of nowhere, as if I got sent to Ukraine
better than every one of their other albums, still only a two
This was honestly quite a bore to listen to, so much so that while the songs weren't necessarily an assault on the senses, it will still receive a 2/5 instead of the usual as it just doesn't inspire anything other than some heavy eyes, which you would need to take some uppers to combat at which stage perhaps the droopy space music background here would also be more enjoyable.
A couple of the tracks are good, but it’s just too avant-garde for me. I feel like at some parts, all that they’re doing is just making noise. But not all of it is bad.
