Hail To the Thief

I don't think they really want people to like this
I want to like this album and I do if it's limited to passive listening. The song structures are just not approachable for me. I enjoy the tone of his voice but the lyrics, at least as much as I can understand, are forgettable.
Not as bad as I thought it would be. Has a very 70s hard rock mixed with Guns N Roses feel to it (ignoring the vocals which for me don't match the quality of the guitars and bass). This is certainly much more listenable than early Metallica for me.
Surprisingly I actively didn't enjoy this. It's not grating but it's not particularly good. Walking on the moon is fine buy I've never really liked message in a bottle and the rest of the album is pretty bad with some particularly bad songs. I'm surprised for such a famous band.
The is accessible jazz and overall a pretty good listen. Oddly the title track isn't available on Spotify currently but it might be my favorite overall. If all jazz was this accessible, I'd listen to more jazz
I had high hopes for this after reading how many artists were inspired by this album. I get that it broke barriers and such but it's just not an enjoyable listen.
Enjoyed this. Love the tone of Hynde's voice. Just enough polish on the songs compared to other albums considered to be influential. I enjoyed the pop songs more than the others on here but this is certainly worth repeated listens.
Enjoyed this quite a bit. Never really knew much about Garbage but I enjoyed their alt rock that still felt like pop music at times. There was still song structure. I think this will hold up well to repeated listenings
Rough listen. First track is decent but quickly gets worse. Wall of sound. Heavy sustained guitars, proto grunge-ish. Seemingly intentionally alt-rock singing where there's no appreciable melody to the singing. One and done for me
Sinatra has a great voice and the emotion he signs with comes through and seems genuine. I enjoy the upbeat swing music. This is high quality for what it is.
Wanted to like this more than I did. I've tried several times to really like them but I think I'm the end I really only like the hits. The other music is just too quirky for me. That being said, it's at least listenable.
Only think I knew about the Flaming Lips before today was "She Don't Use Jelly." Didn't know what to expect but largely enjoyed this album. It's accessible alternative/electronica. I'll keep in in my rotation for sure.
Had never heard of this guy. ?Alt-country. Really love the tone of his voice and the quality of the recording. Deceptively someone but well executed. The last two tracks aren't as good as the others. The penultimate track seems like a complete throwaway. Will be listening to this again and will try other album by this artist.
Never have liked the Beastie Boys. Just something about the typical cadence of the rapping and the tone of their voices. I don't appreciate the artistry that I read from the critics. I still don't understand why they are so popular/beloved. That being said, the increased sampling on this album was enjoyable (from songs I actually enjoy). Don't think I'll listen to this again but it's tolerable.
Wall of sound 90s alt-rock/pop art rock. Vocals often muted behind the wall of sound and really nothing here that is particularly enjoyable or remarkable. At their best sound a little like Oasis. Hard for me to understand how this is on the top 1001 list other than I enjoy the song with the lyric "heroin is so passe."
I know he's an important songwriter but much like Dylan, his voice makes it hard for me to enjoy him singing. The instrumentation is also rather unremarkable. Won't be going back to this one. I'm sure there's more of him to come... And Dylan too. Sigh
Never heard of them (seems a common theme). It's not terrible but it's not enjoyable. Too much Pharrell falsetto. Lyrics don't speak to me. Nothing catchy.
I remember this album was a big deal back when music was a big deal to me. I didn't buy it because it was expensive and I didn't think I'd like many of the songs other than 1979 and Bullet with Butterfly Wings. Tonight, Tonight was on MTV in heavy rotation and it's fine but I knew most of the album was post-grunge, reverb, wall of sound that is grating to listen to. Then you add in Corgan's singing which at times I really enjoy and other times I really don't enjoy. I certainly don't want to hear the song where he is straight up screaming. I think I'll only come back for 2 songs, but those two songs are good enough to save this from getting 1 star only
Wilco was the cool indie band to like when I was in grad school. I didn't particularly enjoy what I heard then but that wasn't this album. I initially didn't enjoy this (when I was actively listening while driving to work). I felt that the music/instrumentation was good but that the vocal was mediocre. Specifically I thought the songs would be better without the vocals. I listened to most of the double album twice and I progressively liked it more and more and the vocal weren't as grating. That being said, the vocals are clearly the weakest component of the music. This is a great passive listen but I don't know if I'll ever choose to listen to it (actively).
Liked this better than the prior Talking Heads album I had. It's a little more accessible. I still find myself wanting to like them more than I do. It's still a little bit of a tough listen at times.
This album is listenable which is something the prior Metallica album isn't. This isn't the obnoxious yeah metal machine gun drum stuff. It's slower and the songs have a more traditional song structure. At times it's seems less metal and not hard rock. Those are the times I considered actually listening to this again but the end of the album was back to what I don't like about metal.
I've never liked Stevie Wonder as much as as I thought I should. His style of music isn't my favorite. Love Sir Duke and the other upbeat songs much more than the slower ballads. Overall it's a decent listen but not one I'll go back to other than a few songs.
It's weird and I was expecting just complete nonsense with no real melody and there are times that's true. And certainly there are times where it's just weird to be weird but overall there are good melodies and real quality listenable music here. It's great background music but I sort of even enjoyed actively listening to it. Will be keeping it in the rotation.
Never knew anything other than Come On Eileen. Pretty enjoyable listen overall.
Easy 5 stars. Not sure there is a better album beginning to end.
I mean it's terrible. It is even music?
Overall just very average.
I enjoyed this. Nice background music/passive listening. Probably better it doesn't have singing
Just terrible. Don't understand how people listen to stuff like this.
Wanted to like it more than I did. Too eclectic and seemingly random for me.
Very listenable but I don't particularly want to listen to it again.
Tiny dancer is good though I actually like many cover versions better. Levon is good. The rest is listenable but nothing memorable.
It's just too ambient for me. There is very little there to listen to.
Another ambient album. Pretty good. Will keep in rotation
Love Morrison's voice. Some big hits on here. Other songs are pretty listenable mostly.
Never previously could get into Joy Division and still can't. The music is fine enough but the vocals aren't interesting.
No one wants to listen to a 16 minute recording of a live drum solo, even if it's a good one.
Pretty good. It's the country side of Americana or the rock and roll side of country. Overall enjoyable but not quite 5 stars
Wanted to like it more than I did. Seems to be how I feel about most jazz. Just doesn't seem like convenience music to me at times.
It's like a never ending end of a song. Is it music or is it just noise? Just can't really appreciate any cohesion between the musicians beyond some fleeting moments. Rough listen.
Pretty good, does sound a bit like the Smiths.
Certainly doesn't reach the pop peaks of Rumors. Nothing incredible here but overall a listenable album
Was hoping to like this more than I did. It's fine but nothing great.
Thought I liked it initially but then after a second listen decided it was ok but not good
Decent lyrics at time but don't really want to listen to this other than big poppa. Hate the skits
Not as great as other Beatles albums but substantially better than many of the albums this project is making me listen to.
Can't understand it but pretty enjoyable to listen to
Freedom is good. Nothing else particularly remarkable.
Better than I expected and there are some listenable songs on here. Not sure I really want to listen to them again though.
Thrash metal is terrible
Considered giving this a 5 as it's pretty enjoyable and has some classic tracks. In the end I just don't really want to listen to it repeatedly or frequently
love the album cover but the music is just meh
Not one of my favorite Zeppelin albums but still fantastic.
This is listenable jazz.
Good listen for multiple reasons as noted in other reviews but can't quite give it 5 stars
Love this style of music and she has a great voice. Some songs are more famous by other artists and it was hard to get past that. Not enough wow to get to 5 stars
The middle of this album isn't 5 stars but the beginning and the end are enough to keep it there but it was close.
Decent and at time I thought it neared on good but suffer from many of the same punk rock problems of terrible singing and unremarkable instumentation.
3 great songs. 1 decent song and a bunch of filler. 4 stars?
Pretty good but still off-putting at times
Very strange but not terrible.
Some pretty good stuff here but some weird lyrics as well. Thought about going 5 stars but ultimately couldn't do it.
I don't understand why he's so beloved
strange
At times I thought I almost liked it but it's hard to like the whole album
I don't think they really want people to like this
Wholly unremarkable
Brutal
For jazz this is good
What more listenable than thrash metal but still not great
Meh
Love the production.
Meh
