Its okay but its not his best and I don't think it is essential.
very short album 27 mins very short songs lyrics arent rlly very easy to hear very soft vocals, good for sleeping ig
kinda mid, 2/5 so far. got better at the end, 3/5
Super mellow
Kinda fun, but didn’t stand out that much
sitting by the window in a bus, the sun hitting your face between the leaves of trees passing by, reflecting on how time has passed to lead you here, wherever you are going and knowing whatever is to come, you can handle it :)
Soft sonically, vocals, acoustic guitar Free ride
Elegante
Instead of britpop we got britfolk. Which is arguably an improvement.
Some nice old vibes. Sometimes difficulty understanding what he is actually singing. Did see myself listening to this with the sun shining on a big hill laying in the grass. Apparently it is a sad album but, me not hearing what he is singing half of the time, makes it more of a summer feel for me.
Favourite Songs: Place To Be Harvest Breed
Drake's voice is so soothing. Great background music.
Traust
Interesting music and sad story about the artist. I’d never heard of him before. Music not to my taste but not hateful
Great first half, decent second half. Would recommend a couple songs.
Boring
Myyyyys, lite samma vibe hela tiden dock. Bästa låtarna är pink moon och place to be 🩷 får mig att tänka på Skottland?
ok
Part of doing this list, is also discovering and accepting that you’re just not as into some artists like others are. Nick Drake is an example of this for me. This is certainly not bad and I can appreciate it on a certain level, but he doesn’t hit as strong for me as he does for other people, and that’s okay.
6/10
Record company: Hey Nick, why is this album only 27 minutes long? Nick: yeah, I had plenty of ideas, but once I started playing each track I got bored and ended them fairly quickly. Just because you like him doesn't mean I have to also.
Did not enjoy this
an ok album by someone that I had not heard of. Unlikely to listen again but would not turn if off if someone else played it
This album was different and was probably pretty influential for being released in the 70s and whatnot. And I liked some of the songs as they sound good, and I can imagine playing them late at night at a cottage. Of course, the singer-songwriter appeal is big to lots of people. But many songs on this thing do not sound good, which, when you are going for a simplistic album like this, I feel like that is pretty vital, otherwise what is stopping me from just looping " Pigs on the wing " by Pink Floyd. The first three songs were great, then it got a little repetitive. Horn was great, then Know was terrible. I feel anyone could have made that. The second half was kinda mid. But some cool ideas!
Very chill and mellow sound. Great guitar work. Reminds me of Belle & Sebastian. I wonder if he was one of their influences?
My favourite songs: Things Behind the Sun, Parasite, Free Ride
I liked this. Would be good for a slow warm morning. I love nicks voice and the light that you feel when he’s creating.
I can’t imagine an occasion when I would listen to this again
Fun!
Laid back acoustic guitar and folk style vocals. Not bad not great, would listen if it was on, but likely wouldn't put in my regular rotation.
Super chill. No me dice demasiado pero esta bien.
Pink moon - 3/10 relaxing song that I can play when I’m relaxing, lights dim and in “that moment” Place to be - 5/10 more words in this song, really felt the words so relaxing Road - 4/10 mostly instrumental but I really like it at the same time, rating it low cause it didn’t give much Which will - 6/10 really like the balance with instrumental and singing, quite catchy too Horn - can’t really rate cause it was just instrumental but it’s really relaxing Things behind the sun - 8/10 so upbeat will defo add to my playlist like u can jump around in your room with this song Know - 2/10 didn’t really like a bit annoying Parasite - 7/10 I actually like this one this is the second best one I liked how the beat changed also Free ride - 6/10 I like these more upbeat songs Harvest breed - 6/10 like the beat too From the morning - 7/10 this song ilike too one of the top 3 I like
The album cover looks like if Salvador Dali designed a cover for James & the Giant Peach. For just a man & his guitar, this is good. Better than Bryter Lyter but still Pleasntly Dull. The stripped down version is better but some of the songs seem to be half ideas or better if fleshed out. The songs do tend to blend together. I only 2 shots of espresso to listen intentively to a wonderful coffee house musican. 3
Sounds super good and creative for how early it was. Just not really my kinda music wouldn't tell someone to turn it off though. Not the worst not the best.
Some refined folk sensibilities but I don't like his songwriting capabilities as much as his contemporaries
I enjoy Nick Drake, but it is a little too chill for me to get very excited about.
Esta bueno, pero lo sentí medio repetitivo
tranquilityy
Just didn't win me over. Looking at other reviews suggest I should pay more attention to the lyrics but eh
Similar to the last Nick Drake, I enjoyed it and a very strange 3, but not something I would revisit.
Nothing wrong with the album, it just doesn't jingle my jangles
Breathy lullabies to suck you into hades
I liked it a lot. I love this artist and I discovered it thanks to this challenge. I liked his debut album better but I really liked this one.
I’m new to Nick Drake and it always take me a second to process that I’m hearing this guy, not Nick Cave. I like Nick Drake. After I listened to Five Leaves Left, I made a discography playlist of all of his records. I intentionally haven't listened all the way through because I knew his other records would be on this list and I didn't want to spoil the surprise for myself. I'm 2/3 of the way there now! My chief complaint here might be that it takes me a little bit to get into the right mood for this kind of folk music, and the 27min runtime is just not long enough for me to get onto this level... in a practical sense, that means I'd either have to be in this mood already to listen to it. If I'm listening to vinyl, every record flip is a chance to decide to listen to something else and I might choose to give up on this record before I ever get into the mood to listen to it. But, gun to my head, I’ll take Nick Drake over Elliott Smith if I‘m forced to have mega-sadboy music time.
I noticed that the entire album was guitar instrumental and it mostly sounded the same to me. Still a nice album.
I spent the whole album wondering why this music reminds me of 2000s Indie music, and then I realized Nick Drake is on the Garden State soundtrack, and it all made sense.
прикольная гитара, но скучно и однообразно 5/10
Very stripped down.
Listens: 3 Standout Tracks: Pink Moon, Places To Be I must admit, I'm a bit annoyed that Nick Drake puts out 3 albums and all three - his entire discography (while he was alive) - is on the List, and that means one or two other bands with perfectly good albums aren't on the List. Is Nick Drake talented? Yes. Is the music pleasant? Sure. Is this album particularly groundbreaking or fundamentally different from Bryter Layter and/or Five Leaves Left. Arguable (though definitely the best album cover). This album is short. That's probably a good thing. The songs blend together. It's tough to parse out when one song ends and another begins. That makes it a lot harder to review. On its own, its a fine entry into the List. But knowing that all three of his albums are also on it diminishes the impact of the artist. 3
3.5
Just ok
Ok
great. TODAY'S BIRD: Pink Robin
I dont listen to Nick Drake often but when I do I always enjoy
3 out of 5 Much better than I expected. Some echoes of Dave Matthews.
I've tried to get into Nick Drake a number of times in my life since first seeing folks hype him as a forgotten genius. It hasn't really taken, but i tried to come into it with fresh, unbiased ears. Drake's music feels sleepy, sort of like an early autumn day, light drizzle, cup of coffee slowly going cold as you sit alone with your guitar. Which isn't a bad vibe, just one that doesnt really inspire me personally. I can see why it might be nice and meditative for others. Top track is probably Road, which i really liked the guitar on. 3* all together.
I really love the instruments on this album - his voice is not my favorite, but I will return to this album.
I really enjoy this album as a whole and especially more so after my second ever listen however there are no standout singular songs at this current point for me and I kind of mean that there are no songs just yet that leave a remembering mark. That could change after a few more listens and there definitely will be more plays in the future. I love the album artwork too. 3.5
i’m really sorry i just don’t get it and i find it boring
A singer-songwriter album that you are either gonna love or hate. Funny enough, I didn’t love it or hate it. It just exists. I may have to circle back and give it more a chance to grow on me.
I like the sound idk if it’s smt I’ll be reaching for often but it’s definitely a vibe. Fav song: parasite
I think this man was sad. It's a dramatic album for good reason.
This is a classic and it is good but a little bit samey. Also anything under thirty minutes should not count as an album
Nice and chill
it's a good album. it's a little samey, but drake was great at what he did.
A nice gentle album. Doesn't overstay it's welcome but isn't all that memorable either.
nice, acoustic, no standouts, but cohesive album 3/5 like: things behind the sun
Just a light voice, and acoustic guitar, but listenable. Guitar very much in the vein of Jimmy Page acoustic work on early Led Zeppelin albums.
I find Nick Drake a very boring musician with talent.
What a lovely record. I had no ideas going in what to expect, but it immediately conveyed peaceful comfort. At ~30 minutes it also does not overstay its welcome; I can imagine at 60 minutes I'd be worn out from comfort fatigue. Reading about Nick Drake's background they say he was struggling with some demons and recording these songs was a brief interlude of his own relief.
This is a very tender, vulnerable album. It's pretty, and it doesn't outstay it's welcome, but I don't think it deserves the reputation it has
I enjoyed this. It was slow and quiet but I liked it overall.
Strong 3. This is a nice, easy album to listen to. I wasn’t familiar with Nick Drake at all, but I can tell he has influenced artists that I like now, like Fleet Foxes and Iron & Wine. He’s super talented and this album seemed ahead of its time. I like the indie rock vibe of it. Will I go back and listen to it a lot? Probably not. But overall, I liked it. My standouts were “Which Will” and “From The Morning.”
There is a mystique about Nick Drake that, based on this album, I don’t get. The all-acoustic album was fine but I didn’t find anything memorable about any of the songs. Compared to other singer/songwriters of the era - James Taylor, Joni Michell, even Gordon Lightfoot, he doesn’t stack up.
Pretty mellow folk but I liked it.
Well, I'll give it this: it sure knows how to be pretty chill. It's got that mellow '70s vibe like if easy listening went on vacation with a cup of tea and a copy of Poets & Writers. It was nice not having to think too hard while spinning this one, but I wouldn't say I'm racing back for more. Spins: 1 Playlist Additions - Pink Moon - Place To Be - From The Morning
Free Ride was my favorite track.
Gražu, bet nieko ypatingo.
I don't know. Nick is ok. The all acoustic thing is fine. His songs are fine. The album is fine. It's fine, ok? Stop asking me about it.
This is the 2nd Nick Drake album that's come up for us on this list. He only had 3. I think this one was marginally better than the other one (Bryter Layter).
Pink Moon is a very relaxing contemplative acoustic album. This is my first listen to Nick Drake although he's been on my music to-do list for a while. I like his very pared down simplistic approach to the album. You focus on the lyrics, which all have intruige, and because the songs are all guitar and vocals they flow really well into one another. It's a short album, clocking in at less than 30 minutes but it makes its point and exits without becoming tiresome. Standout tracks for me were "Which Will" "Things Behind the Sun" and "Free Ride." Overall it's a 3 for me. Pretty and attention grabbing, this one needs more listens but it's solid.
Largo. Me gustó pero tengo que darle otra escuchada, necesita concentración. Hay canciones que me recuerdan a los domingos. Sacando lo revolucionario de mi país tal vez 70s sonaban a domingos y vacaciones de verano.
Pinque moooon.
Very beautiful and haunting playing/singing just doesn’t stick with me all that much.
The whole thing was pretty minimalistic and most of it all blurred together. Not bad
I like Horn so far. He's pretty good on the guitar! I'm not sure he's someone I'd listen to a lot, just based on this album but I didn't hate it. Side note: 'Know' I recognise as a cover I've heard before! That's cool.
Very simple, good music. Very simple, pleasant vocals. But nothing really distinguished the songs from each other. Would I listen to it again? Yes. Would I be able to tell any of the songs apart? No.
I feel like a lot of the songs sounded the same, but I did like the sound!
Queria dar 3.5, gostei, mas um bocado repetitivo
Simple acoustics, deep lyrics. Pink Moon and From the Morning are the standouts. 3
Enjoyed but a lot of songs sounded the same
places to be; know; free ride
I feel like I should like Nick Drake more than I do, this was a very pleasant listen, and it sailed by. Maybe if I spent a bit of time, and when in the right mood, I could get along with this but it hasn’t really done enough to excite me into exploring further.
This took time for me to understand and appreciate but it's really great when it's good and a little underwhelming otherwise.
Прослухала не все, тільки 3 найпопулярніші. Відчуття вечірньої прогулянки під місяцем на березі моря влітку. На повсякденній основі я б таке не слухала, не моє. 6/10
listening to the scrubs soundtrack for an hour.
It’s amazing how much one man and his guitar can have to offer within such simplicity. I can’t say that I was ever a huge Nick Drake fan, but I always appreciated how personal his singer/songwriter aesthetic is. This album definitely added to his repertoire in very positive ways, and was the perfect album for a sleepy Friday morning at work. Key songs for me were Harvest Breed because I liked the way his structure (cool augmented cord progressions) and flow on this presented, and Free Ride which once again added his melodic vocals with his busy guitar work resulting in cool audible contrast. Unlike other over Nicks that could she shoved in a Cave as another Bad Seeds, I sail the Drake sea again
Random thoughts: * I listened to this one several times and like any good indie fan and Wes Anderson fan, I've delved into my share of Nick Drake. * I like to put Nick Drake on on weekend mornings when I'm feeling particularly chill. * Pink Moon is the main track and really great. I couldn't really pick out any of the other tracks but I liked listening to the whole album. * I'm not sure this quite a 4-star album. More of a 3.5 for the influence Nick Drake had on 2000s indie music.
Enjoy just a guy with a guitar.
I enjoyed this album. Nick Drake's music is so pretty. Not 100% my vibe but I liked the listen. I had not heard this album before.
Had heard this before! I really like Pink Moon but I will say things started to blend together a bit after that, and nothing really stood out. I think I need to re-listen and pay closer attention. Love his voice and the style in general. Top Songs: Pink Moon
There are a few decent tracks on the album, but overall it’s somewhat of a boring listen for me. I appreciate the stripped down, bare bones simplicity but the vocals start to sound like a monotone after a bit.
I thought it was good. it's very tranquil and soft. i liked his voice. it's a pretty stark contrast for my ultimate favs of like hyperpop but i like it nonetheless.
3,2 - Schöne Gitarrenklänge ohne Highlights Highlights: Things Behind The Sun, Parasite
An absolute gem of a record that captured lightning in a bottle. Each track feels like a singularly unique performance, and Drake's guitar work is simply magnificent. I have nothing but the utmost appreciation for this record...but it is not for me. I've tried time and time again with Drake's work, but my brain refuses to take any personal enjoyment from it. I couldn't tell you why, because on paper, this album is perfect for me—single take, live performances, deeply personal lyrics, and imperfections cutting through beautifully. Seems unfair to rate this any lower than 5 stars, but I guess that's life, huh?
Tiny singer-songwriter music, very emotional, intimate.
I can hear his style in more contemporary artists, I assume that Nick has been an influential artist to Bedouine and others. Would love to dig into more of this work!
Well, another English singer-songwriter. I've heard worse; the minimalistic approach works to a certain degree. The guitarplay is not bad, but not outstanding, and so is his singing. His voice isn't what I would call pleasant, but that's on me.
It’s honestly a shame that Nick Drake refused to perform live. His voice is very calming with the acoustic guitar track, and I especially liked “Horn” which sort of served as an interlude for the album
Durch das recht minimalistische Arrangement und die kurzen Songlängen bleibt zu Beginn nur wenig hängen, aber da steckt schon Potenzial drin und einige schöne Melodien wirken direkt. So (erstmal) "nur" 3 Sterne.
3,5. I digged that one much more than Henry's dream. Really a nice one to relax
Beautiful acoustic and intimate music. I like the minimalistic approach. The cover is pretty ugly and not right for this kind of album.
nice ambiance while i’m reading:) The songs flowed together I didn’t get bored but the tracks didnt stand out to me
Nice, quiet guitar music, not earth-shattering but fine
Sounds like it was recorded in his bedroom, perhaps that's the point, but enjoyed it more than his other offering on here...
I was familer with his music before but never state down and gave it a listen, to be far I was writing well listening to this album but still. Im a fan of this sound and 70s folk. I would say I like something a little less bare bones Im more of a james taylor carol king than a bob dylan girl. A fan though was good to write to but blended together
soft, apaisant, simple et mélancoliquement joyeux
Très bon mood, manque peut être de reliefs dans l'ensemble mais c'est très cool
Nick Drake is the kind of artist who is best in small doses.
Nick Drake’s Pink Moon feels like a whisper from another room: spare, intimate, and almost defiantly minimal, with hushed vocals and mostly acoustic guitar wrapped in lo-fi production. The album’s hypnotic sameness can blur the tracks together, but that uniformity also locks in a consistent mood of quiet melancholy. The title song anchors the set with its ghostly piano flourish, while “Road” and “Which Will” highlight Drake’s graceful fingerpicking, and “Free Ride” adds a subtle rhythmic twist that hints at bossa nova. It’s not a record built for variety or big hooks, but as a late-night listen, its understated sadness slowly seeps in and lingers.
Singer songwriter,nothing notable
Prachtig albumpje maar je moet er wel echt in een bepaalde bui voor zijn en het gebrek aan diversiteit maakt het voor mij ook wat eentoniger. Verder wel erg mooi geschreven en gezongen. Betoverende stem.
I had never heard of Nick Drake before. A pretty sad story actually. He’s “your favorite artists, favorite artist”. And wasn’t appreciated until after his untimely passing. You’ll likely recognize the first song, “Pink Moon” from commercials.
singer song writer with a good voice, maybe deserved 4 stars, better than coldplay, not so melancholic
Didn’t love it but also didn’t hate it. Very much gave acoustic and similar vibes from one song to the next. I liked parasite and pink moon the best of all the songs.
1/11 Not bad. All acoustic folk album. Good autumn vibes
I found the guitar playing to be outstanding. The vocals are very soft, but sound good nonetheless. Would re listen to it.
I'm a sucker for Nick Drake's effortless vocals.
cute:)
guitar + man + his honest thoughts fave song: pink moon
Nit my cup of tea. But it's still good, sad guitar music.
I already knew this album to some extent, and also some of Nick Drake’s earlier records. He’s hugely respected by - and influential on - some artists I really like. But somehow it never really spoke to me. The lyrics are a bit too vague and fey. And I can take or leave his voice, although I get that some people would love it.
I've not heard any Nick Drake music before, perhaps it was a little before my time where I started to listen to music. I enjoyed this album. It was very 70's in style, but I like a lot of 70's music. The guitar work was very good and whilst somewhat melancholy his vocals suited the music. It reminded me a little of Anthony Philips (The Geese & the ghost which I also like) although this album is a little louder.
7/10
Somber melodic album. Didn't care for the first track but enjoyed the rest. Added two tracks to my library.
Love the guitar
Kind of soft indie vibes
Track 1: 8/10 Track 2: 7/10 Track 3: 6/10 Track 4: 6/10 Track 5: 5/10 Track 6: 7/10 Track 7: 6/10 Track 8: 6/10 Track 9: 7/10 Track 10: 7/10 Track 11: 6/10 Overall: 6.45
Favorite Songs - Place To Be, Things Behind The Sun, Parasite, From The Morning
This vibe is growing on me but need more time to pick apart!
A gentle listen musically, however it is terribly sad and melancholy.
Just a guy and his guitar. Felt like an album full of ideas and demos. Not a lot of dynamics or surprises. It was fine, but I wasn't terribly moved by it one way or another.
Pink Moon was overall fine for me. Out of the entire album, I genuinely enjoyed about three songs. Folk music isn’t really my genre, and it’s not something I would normally choose to listen to on my own. Because of that, parts of the album didn’t connect with me on like a musical way. That said, the lyricism stood out. Nick Drake’s writing is very intentional. I could feel what he was trying to express in each song. Even when I didn’t love the sound, the emotions came through, and I found myself relating to the lyrics on many tracks. Every song felt meaningful and the album definitely made me feel something, which I value.
Not my usual kind of music but I like how rawly acoustic it is
Loved the chill folky sound of this album. The tracks that appealed to me more than others are “ Things being the sun” and “Place to be”. I” all come back to it in the future for sure and check other albums.
I liked the heavy instrumental focus in the guitar, it was very calming and made me relax.
I was a bigger fan at a time, but doesn’t quite carry the weight for me as it once did.
It's a decent listen. A bit too slow for my taste, but the vocals and guitar are really pleasant to listen to. Song I liked the most from the album: "Things Behind The Sun" Final rating: 3/5
Liked it. It's very mellow and calming. His voice is so smooth. It just feels a little repetetive
Definitely one of those albums that I’m grateful for existing in its influence. However it’s really not something that grabs me in a a way that would ask for repeat vists. I’m definitely too playlist minded and vibes focused in my current musical consumption to consider this more than an addition to one of my mood based shuffle lists. Some good tracks for ambience and coffee shop vibes. Lyrics are not offensive and the story is partially what keeps my attention. Standout tracks: Parasite, Place to Be, Things Behind the Sun
Its alright, mellow. The guitar tends to be a bit repetative though.
Sehr ruhig und entspannt. Minimale Instrumentation.
Felt intimate and raw loved how it was just a guitar and whispered vocals. Love the folk vibe just a really good album.
Personally not for me. The overall melancholy sound just doesn’t scratch my indie folk itch in the way I expect. Some songs I did enjoy (the happier sounding ones) but overall it’s not an album I’d return to.
Similar to music that I enjoy but was slightly whinny very short like 30 min
Melancholy, somber. Matches the gray sky on this day after Christmas, and yet it's a welcome release. "Parasite" captures the mood of the album, which takes you down a notch, maybe just the thing after holiday hustle and bustle. Would I feel the same in the summer? Don't know, but it fits the moment.
Alright and kind of nice to listen to while doing dishes in the morning but I don’t need to listen to it again.
Not the most festive album to listen to on Christmas Day. It’s okay. I like the simplicity and the minimalism of the album, but it’s difficult to distinguish one track from another. It’s difficult to escape the notion that Nick Drake’s music became more popular because of his tragic early death. From what I read, the album was not a big seller at the time and it wasn’t well received. After his suicide, its reputation increased bit by bit and now we are told that it is an essential album. It really is. Elliott Smith is better. Pink Moon is good, but it’s not great. I wouldn’t recommend, but it didn’t annoy me and I didn’t drift away while listening, so I think a 3/5 is fair.
гарно на фон, мелодійно, гарний голос, цікаві прийоми , загалом норм
Very neat, Åkerfeldt!
lovely music to have in the background while studying or focusing on something. toegevoegd aan bibliotheek
I’ve heard the title track track way too many times over the last few years, for whatever reason. It seems to make a lot of playlists. The rest is solid enough.
Good vocals, low key rock
Redundant, repetitive, and unnecessary since we already reviewed a Nick Drake album. It’s not like he ever changed his sound, went electric, discovered distortion, or sang happy tunes. This album may get preferential treatment because it has that one song (“Pink Moon”) that became popular when it was used in a Volkswagen commercial decades after he died.
Very chill and peaceful but didn’t stand out to me
I listened to this on the bus in the rain. It was the right ambience for this album. This is something I might put on to take an airplane nap in the future. And I mean that in the best possible way.
Enjoyed the guitar playing and overall I liked it but not blown away by it either.
3.5/5 stars…. really good started off strong definitely felt the van morrison vibe. then it started to get a little sleepy. i’d have to listen to his tracks as one offs i think.
another album I wish I could rate 3.5
dit is de meest beluisterbare van de drie
Acoustique, redondant
It’s a character flaw of mine to get bored after more than a few slow songs in a row, but this never bored me. Very pretty songs, though none that really stood out for me.
I really wanted to like this and I listened to it twice, but both times it never captivated me. I enjoyed it, and a few songs grabbed me but it was not outstanding. Not as good as the first album, which I found a lot more appealing.3 stars
Really nice but just ended up drifting away from it. Similar experience to Khruangbin, nice, background vibes. 6 / 10 Best track/s: Which Will, Pink Moon
A nice, gentle folky album. Short and (mostly) sweet, with little instrumentation other than Nick Drake and his acoustic guitar.
good background for algebra 2 studying
Though all who know me, are AWARE of my disdain for Nick Drake, my dear friend K Hole leant me this album and I'm forced to admit, I did not HATE it. It was better than I expected. OKAY?? ARE YOU HAPPY?????
I can hear the influence this had on Mac DeMarco and Gorillaz. Quiet indie guitar’s origins.
First time listening to Nick Drake after hearing much about him. I thought the guitar playing was stellar, and really creative songwriting, but most of the tracks failed to resonate with me. Maybe I just heard this on the wrong day, I might revisit it. Standout Tracks: Road, Free Ride, From The Morning.
It’s a lot of guitar. my mom doesn’t really like it. It’s kinda gloomy Vibes, sad- camping, camp fire, rural, slow paced
chillax
Probably the second-best White-Guy-With-A-Guitar artist on here.
Armonious and very chill guitarist. Perhaps too chill...
No me gusta tanto como otros discos suyos. O quizás es que es demasiado parecido y menos inspirado.
good 3.5
It was an enjoyable listen but pretty forgettable and never really dragged me in. It was easy to forget that I was listening to it.
I enjoyed this album more than Five Leaves Left, but Nick Drake still isn't my favorite
Very well written just not my style
Nick Drake's voice is very smooth and soothing. Pink Moon is a great introduction, with interludes like Horn keeping the melodic flow going throughout. This smoothness, however, detracts in the way it is hard to connect with the piece, especially if you are not solely focused on it. As a singer songwriter, you must be able to connect, and I did not feel that as much within this album. However, that may be mostly on me and the way listened to the music.
Good album. Preferred his first one but this is still good.
A nice chill album, with a beautiful voice. I didn’t love it though.
Nice and soft, but also a bit boring.
An interesting way to accept what your destiny will be, and what a new beginning has to be.
This is the third Nick Drake album we’ve had on the list so far, if I counted correctly. The list maker seems to have an obsession here. The internet states the artist had three albums, so we will have heard the entire Nick Drake collection. It makes me wonder if any other artist/group has all their albums on this list. The acoustic guitar playing is crisp, clear, and mostly pleasant. The lyrics are occasionally hard to pick out. Overall very mellow.
Three Nick Drakes, huh? It's very peaceful and infinitely better than Wilco, but even so, we get the picture. At least this one is space rock. (A little joke for my fans.)
Pink moon is good but the rest of the album is the same thing
Aside from "Road," I don't think this album has anything else to offer. It's fine as background music.
Pink Moon is always gettign recommended to me on Spotify, nice song. Let's see what else this guy is about: A bit one dimensional but nice acoustic background music, probably a 3.5 star if I could.
Impossible to listen to without feeling melancholy.
2.5
Haven't I heard this one before? Pretty sure this is my third Nick Drake and the repetition is probably hurting how much I enjoyed it.
goof
The sound of Belle and Sebastian, without the rhythmic quirkiness. This is probably the Nick Drake album i like most, but it misses something essential in his delivery.
Been a very long time since I heard Pink Moon. It’s beautiful, of course, but my tastes have veered so far from acoustic singer-songwriter folk, that it’s had to love. Plus a little too melancholy
A very calming, moody album that I actually enjoyed. Often quiter stuff like this doesn't interest me as much. Maybe it was because I listened on a gray day full of rain, but I did enjoy it and will likely revisit when the mood strikes again. 3/5
This album is like having an argument with your long term girlfriend, and then having to sit on a train with her for three hours because you are on holiday and your going to check out the countryside. You know you are in trouble, because as soon as the train pulls out of the station, she announces she is going to the food cart to try and get a cup of tea, and she doesn't ask you if you want anything. You hadn't noticed him until now, but there is an older gentleman sitting on the other side of your booth. Sporting an oilskin coat and an Akubra hat, this man immediately gives the impression that he has a lot of life experience. After your girlfriend is out of earshot, he chuckles to himself, and makes a comment under his breath about young love. You are pretty heated at the moment, and you don't really appreciate this guy taking delight in your struggle. However he apologises, and then begins to calm you down with stories of his past arguments, and the tactics he used to soothe situations. His calming tones have you feeling a lot more relaxed about things, and you soon look forward to your girlfriend returning, so you can alleviate any tension and get back to enjoying your holiday.
Как всегда грустно и скучно, хоть ненапряжно
Melancholic acoustic album that doesn’t overstay its welcome. Very stripped back that works well for a solid enough album.
it wasn't bad, but wasn't great
The first song, the title track, is by far the best, and then the next few songs just sound like watered down versions of that. I also wanted more instrumentation. However, there is some good musicianship and warmth here. Top tracks: "Pink Moon," "Know"
Sublte, haunting, contemplative, beautiful. Sounds like mid-90s indie accoustic, but it's a brit from the 70s. RIP a king.
Too depressing to actually listen to. I prefer Bryter Later.
Very cozy
I’ve been thinking about how greatness is just another low. Truly the more you listen to this album the better you understand. If you shift your lense knowing that this is fully acoustic, the album becomes amazing. It’s great but not the best. 5/10
It's like listening to an album of lullabies.
пистки
I think it’s probably better than the 3 stars I gave it, but I just wasn’t in the headspace for this. I’ll revisit this one later
Heard it before. Sweet, sweet album <3 3/5
Not bad. Not wall worthy
Best Track - "Pink Moon"
This is fun and peaceful but occasionally drains on. His voice is super calming. Not a bad listen tho. The guitar parts are super interesting tho. Actual rating...3.5 Liked Songs: "Place to Be" , "Road" , "Which Will" , "Free Ride" , "Harvest Breed" , "From The Morning"
A lively album to walk around Walthamstow in Autumn dusk
Honestly my first reaction is to look up tabs because there’s mechanically some good stuff here. I don’t like it but I can’t knock it for any other reason.
ruhige musik für Hintergrund
Pleasant.
Super pleasant and beautiful music but man what a tragic ending for his sad soul.
Liked it, it was fine, nice soft sounds. Kinda just sounds like a lot of the other albums he's done.
Very chill. Just simple acoustic guitar and soft male vocals. Feels quite different for the early 70s when it was recorded. It's fine. Low energy record for chilling.
Surprisingly, it was actually pretty good. I mean, I don't like such kind of a folk music in general, but here I, as they say, got into it. Still, not big fan of a genre.
This was basically a coffee shop soundtrack. White guy, soft voice, acoustic guitar
I don't listen to a lot of folk, which is perhaps a surprise as my Dad loves the stuff... maybe that's why! This was a solid and enjoyable listen. Nothing that I didn't like on here, and a few in particular that I thought were good and offered something a little different (_Pink Moon_, _Know_, _Free Ride_) . It's not really in my wheelhouse though and whilst I wouldn't have any issue listening to this, I can't see myself choosing to listen to it again.
The only place I know I've heard Nick Drake before is the Garden State soundtrack. After listening to this whole calm, chill album, he definitly has a distinct and memorable voice. I don't remember much about the songs themselves, but I remember the experience
First time listening to anything by Nick Drake. Folk singer-songwriter stuff tends to be something I appreciate more than truly enjoy, still a pleasant listen and could see it growing on me with time
Its a perfect 3 album
Don’t see what’s so special
- wodr sehr cozy herbst vibes - sanft - schöni akkustischi gitarre kläng - cools und interessants aubum cover - wird eue es stabiud aubum vo mir wärde woni ab und zue zrügg chere - abr es isch nid mega spannend odr emptionau aklingend - sondern het eher e beruigerendi würkig
Blind album, know the name from this project. I was pleasantly surprised by this, especially about its basic instrumentation. Didn't even realize until halfway through, albeit a short album, but still. I'm not sure how I feel about this, but it's definitely not bad, and it is good, but I don't think I can give it higher than a 3.
Didn't find anything outstanding, good acoustic guitar with lyrics that kind of drifted away from me. overall a not very in your face album
I like folk but this was just so bland. Every song sounded to similar, felt like there was no variations 2.5/5
I knew a little of his tragic backstory, but did not realize the nearness of his death to this album and how the album’s lack of success affected him. Maybe it’s me, but it’s sad that the tragedy gives this album some more resonance. It’s otherwise a stark and stripped down acoustic set that to me feels like it falls short of really pulling you in. The title track gives it an extra star, however.
Not bad but not really my type of music
Simple, pleasant, folk approach. Enjoyable.
Okay! Some good but some a little slow.
New artist to me . Relaxing music will listen to more of him .
I had never heard of this artist before. At first I found the music rather flat and emotionless, but it slowly grew on me. "Things Behind The Sun" was a turning point, and convinced it was actually good. The emotion is there – it’s just low-key and subdued, the listener definitely needs be in the right state of mind and take the time to fully appreciate the general tone and mood of the album. I can recognize the talent ; I understand why it’s on this list, and I definitely understand how this would speak to some people on a very fundamental level. But from a personnal point of view, I have a hard time relating with the lyrics and the emotions the artist tries to convey. Maybe I’ve never felt depressed or melancholic enough ?... It’s not something I’d listen again anytime soon, but I’m glad I gave it try. It’s pretty short anyway, so it never overstays its welcome, as too many album do.
good effort
Pretty, melodic, and melancholic folk music. I've never heard of Nick Drake before, but I thought this album was alright. It's short, but I feel like it does what it was supposed to in that short 28 minutes. Drake's voice is hard to understand at times, though. The real standout to me was the simple acoustic arrangement. My favorite song was Things Behind the Sun. 3.5/5 stars.
Slow, just an alright album, nothing that really rocks me or like changes a lot for me but it’s honestly solid, just about where I would say green was.
Very mellow and relaxing listen. Despite the short runtime the album does start to get repetitive along the entire B side. Some heartfelt and delicate moments carry through the first half, but I'm left wishing those were drawn out and explored more. Overall decent enough acoustic album. Top tracks: Place to Be, Horn, Things Behind the Sun
Good background music and relaxing voice.
сначала очень хорошо пошёл но потом надоел. одну сохранила. очень милый!
A beautiful collection of singer/songwriter ballads. Not really my cup of tea, but a remarkable album that paved the way for Elliott Smith, Sufjan Stevens, and others.
Nice starting notes Overall boring but nice to listen to
This was ok enough, even if it was a little boring. Bonus points for how short it was.
chill
Compelled to stay with the melancholic and mercifully short 28 minutes, seeking insight into why someone took their life so young. Searching for what breaks someone, through clues in the lyrics. What causes depression, a rhetorical question, because it is no one thing.
It was fine
Not my cup of tea but I enjoyed my listen thru. Kinda music to listen to reading or relaxing and working
totally ok, chill some fine. when run in background you forget about the music and focus on something else
Alright, I think I get it all the swooning and fawning over this mythical singer-songwriter. I read one review that described it as 'bleak'. Sad maybe, but bleak - nah. The guitar playing is lovely, as is his voice. I'm going to have to take another listen and pay more attention to the lyrics, maybe that's where the bleakness lives?
Night vibes - Hypnotic - Cooking. Se nota que es un álbum al final de la era musical del cantante. Es un tanto repetitivo, pero, como he indicado, hipnótico.
Pretty songs that make me think of elves and fairies. This is more than a three but not quite a four.
Pleasant, unassuming, ended before I knew it. Bordering on a 4-star, but the songs were a bit indistinguishable from one another, at least at first listen, which levels it to a 3.
For some reason I liked his debut album better haha. But chill sounds and sound lyrics overall! Tracks to Track: Horn (instrumental only xD)
Pretty good, guitar is mixed way too loud or it would be even better
Always a nice listen, always makes me scratch my head and wonder what it is I’m missing or that I don’t get about it, because it’s just that to me.
I don't not like it. But I found I knew what was coming at the start of the album and wasn't disappointed. It's very Nick Drake-y
Listened on my morning walk. I do not normally like jangly guitar music but this was very nice.
3/5 hieno ääni
a decent easy gentle listen, liked the guitar work, his voice took a bit to grow on me, but I overall enjoyed the album
Indifferent
Meh
I enjoyed this album. 3 stars
Beautiful, simple and seemed... Earnest? I enjoyed it but wasn't suddenly awake to a new obsession like many seem to have with this fella. That said, I felt that if I'd explored it more lyrically and contextually then I might uncover a greater interest in him.
Mid
a beautiful album but i wasn't really in the mood for this kind of music when i listened it for the first time. it will grow on me for sure. also, i really like the album cover
Pretty alright. Doesn't really overstay its welcome, but isn't overly entertaining either.
Soft
Good, but can only listen to so much.
Probably one for me to revisit, not the vibe rn
Classic
Para escuchar un par de temas, hermoso. Para todo el disco... mhhhh Nota: 2.7
Lovely and mellow singing with guitar, a bit of a Jack Johnson vibe but without quite as much punch or upbeat tempo - it was enjoyable
Very nice. Very same-y.
3.5. Haunting and Sad and Beautiful. A talented and tortured soul, may he be resting in peace.
Solid contribution
Mid
Simple, spartan yet a bit powerful at times
Have never heard of NIck Drake and I see that the reason why is that he died so young. Sad that so many young and talented people get taken before their time. That said, I liked a few songs here and I will be back.
Ok, nicht so mein style aber angenehm ruhig 6/10
Mellow, acoustic art-rock. Not bad but not really my wheelhouse.
It’s good but I’m still unconvinced
It's a Nick Drake album. They all sound alike. Thankfully it was very short.
Having now listened to one of Nick Drake's other albums, this is obviously very reminiscent of that. Nick Drake sounds like Nick Drake. However, I do appreciate the more stripped-back sound of this album. It's more intimate, and it makes the songs feel more like themselves, if that makes any sense.
Technically proficient playing, very pleasant vocal delivery, interesting songwriting. However, the length of many of the songs is a bit too short. They don’t, in my opinion, long enough to fully develop before they are over.
