Reviews (page 12 of 14)
- Had an insane amount of difficulty ever understanding what Drake was saying. But the vibe is nice and relaxing and I can see all of these tracks appearing as the opening song in an indie picture. - Nothing bad here. But I would not seek it out either. The stripped down nature of it all is nice.
average
Too many nick drake albums
Slow and mellow, definitely not my cup of tea but I can appreciate it.
If I had time, this one deserves another listen. I’d like to focus on lyrics.
Very English countryside but a dusky gloomy overcast weather
Good album but probably not something I’d go back to
I can finally put Nick Drake behind me. The bastard has been relentlessly haunting over me ever since starting this project. This is a lovely little album to listen on on a bank holiday Friday morning. Nick Drake has grown on me listening to all his albums, but I definitely like him best in Bryter Layter when there’s a bit more production to it. That’s the electric Dylan fan in me.
3.5
Very nice. If someone had asked me when Nick Drake was about I’d have said… I dunno, 90s? He fucking died in 1974!! Two years after this album. And he’d already retired! Turns out I was thinking of Nick Cave. Some lovely stuff, but also one track that is barely even a demo. Like, babe… just leave it off. Will appeal, I imagine, to fans of Dylan. (Bob Dylan).
The album is fascinating as a document of someone completely receding into himself until he fully disappears. There's a certain mystery to it: Drake's intonations are both hushed and emotionally opaque, as if he feels compelled to speak but cannot possibly articulate anything real and true. The end result is a half hour of beautiful, delicate songs that are almost impossible to connect to.
Not the album to listen to if you want to feel energized. It's very repetitive...like a long car drive. His voice is a good mix of Don McLean and Jack Johnson
The up front style goes well with the guitar, but ithe music tends to fade into the background, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's a vibe for sure.
Meh
Awesome voice and I did like it but if I was going to listen to this kind of music I think I would reach for a different artist first.
Divided
I said this a few hundred reviews ago, but this artist was really easy to listen to. If this was a club or coffee house, I would order another one or two to listen to the rest of his set....
You know what? Another nice album that receded into the background as I listened. When I happened to pay attention to the lyrics, though, I generally liked them.
It’s like one continuous tune.
Usually not one for folky solo acoustic stuff but this has some pretty interesting chords in it. Also notable for being the final album by a depressed recluse who OD'd at 26, and having influenced The Cure, REM, & others.
A good album, I liked the style of it.
Pretty. I like the guitar work. But, and this is probably sacrilegious, I didn't take to his singing voice which is a bit weedy for me. It's that English Folk sound. However, I like Bert Jansch and I WANT to like folk music more so maybe I just need to be in the right mood or maybe it will grow on me
Liked it more than expected but will probably not revisit it
So I felt this was a beautiful album - but very one note. It's like hearing the same pretty song 11 times in a row. You can acknowledge it's beauty but not for 30 full minutes.
Audio quality of this album lacks low end. Good music but the feel is a bit hollow on the soundstage.
Really good. Pink Moon is an amazing song. But the rest of the album did not blow me away. It was just good. Not amazing.
Enjoyed it more than I expected
Things Behind the Sun really was a revelation. Really beautiful song! I couldn’t quite get as much into the rest of the album, though. There were qualities in almost every song (except for Know, horrible song!) but something just didn’t click. Maybe it would be better if I hadn’t just started my holidays and weren’t in such a good mood.
Oletan sanoitusten olevan kiinnostavia. Kitara on nätti, vähän klassinenkin.
7/10
Good guitar. I like it, don't love it. 2.9.
Nice Sunday AM album. Chill vibe. Polished and solid.
It’s a unique voice and sound but the album is very repetitive
More pretty sad music. Not my thing.
Easy to listen to, but no songs stood out too much
Kinda sad. Nice acoustic play though.
Good for background music. Lyrics are pretty thin.
Nice mood, an easy album to listen to. Makes me wonder how many nice albums like that are out there, never heard widely unless someone highlights it.
I appreciate the cult status but Nick Drake never really did it for me. Perhaps it's a bit too eerie for me
Straightforward folk. Fine
Nice smooth sound but not my style.
Very minimal, but nice if you want a quiet short album. Just a guitar and voice.
Was ok. Doesn’t matter what era we are in or come from there’s always 10 guys that sound like this.
British Bob Dylan?
Pretty okay. Is that even a review?
Another new-to-me find artist. Very easy and enjoyable.
I feel like I had a shadow memory of this album, I recognised the album cover(of which I am a fan) but I had no idea what to expect in terms of the genera of the album as I didn’t read the context before listening. As I’m currently in Stockholm I couldn’t listen to the album in full but I enjoyed what I listened to so far. I’m not sure how often I will listen to it regularly but I know that this album will definitely grow on me.
Was nice listening. Interesting to hear some of the chords and arpeggios created by different tunings. Not so unique now but at the time must have been pretty different to hear. Hearing notes lower than E for bass notes in the picking pattern was haunting to hear at times
Solid
I had heard a few of Nick Drake’s songs previously and really liked them, but after listening to Pink Moon in full, I think his music works better for me if I hear an individual song in the wild or on a playlist. Sorry if that’s sacrilegious… it’s just not a favorite genre of mine, but certainly one I can appreciate on the surface.
-poprilično monotono i jednostavno, no ovaj album spašava mekan i topao glas kultnog kantautora Nicka Drakea - aranžman većine pjesama sastoji se od akustične gitare te njegovog glasa kao drugog instrumenta -pjesme često vrludaju te nemaju izraženu poantu i album se preklapa u jednu veliku cjelinu NAJDRAŽA PJESMA: Pink Moon NAJGORA PJESMA: Know 5.5/10
Really mellow. Good for background music.
Relaxing 3/5
Thank God the songs were short... reminded me of Jack Johnson...but JJ is much more soothing to listen to. Sorry not a fan... 😏😏🤔😒....
Brother needs some mucinex, but I like how mellow it is. Piano on title track is calming and sets the tone for the record. Songs blend into one another like warm summer nights in the central coast giving rise to the next day. Listened to it pretty quick so first take I’ll be generous
Yay, okay now we're firmly in folk territory...pink moon was sweet & simple, I want to call it a ditty. I am getting wafts of Fleet foxes & Hozier. Kinda sounds like a guy with his guitar gently messing around with some chords by a fireplace... This is about him processing his time, not about performance... Norwegian wood/ Beatles vibes. I like it for wintertime.
Good listen but not one that I would revisit often.
Basically just singing over an acoustic guitar. Lyrically it is nothing special but there is something beautifully simplistic about the album. It’s definitely not an album that would be in my regular rotation but it certainly has its place. Which Will was the highlight of the album for me. I also really enjoyed Horn. 3/5
Surprised this was 1972
Muy suave folk britis
I was today years old when I first listened to Nick Drake (despite many recommendations!) Fantastic album. Total melancholy
Despite this album only being a few years older than the Five Leaves Left album we pulled a month or two ago, he definitely sounds a bit older/more rough around the edges. Becoming a fan of his delivery
Pretty mid I guess. Cozy acustic guitar songs and an really chill vocals.
Very relaxing
A little folky
A few familiar songs and enjoyable, yet most others are repetitious.
Well not exactly a toe tapper. Music was good and it helped to appreciate it more by reading the back story. He seemed like a troubled soul trying to use his music to cope with life.
Really loved the guitar and background music. His voice pairs really well with it but I didn’t focus a lot on the lyrics. Will need to give another listen to full appreciate those.
Really solid record. Listened to it twice in a row. While I can’t say there was a standout song, the album washes over you. Love the stripped down nature of it. I’ll probably revisit this in the future. 3.5/5
Normally I don't have a problem with depressive music, but this album is too depressive even for me.
It’s fine. Heard it a lot.
Mid
Sounds like a man living in a lighthouse
#70. Put this on the list with Rocky Horror Picture Show for cult classics that I really don't understand why. It's fine, I guess. Nothing special though. 3/5
Profondo intenso
The voices are a little weird but the instruments are good
cry me a river
Pretty easy listening. Nothing bad but nothing particularly great.
Short and sweet.
Gemütlich, nachdenklich 3.4
Okay 3
Melancholic/Acoustic vibes. personal top3 in no order: Road Horn Harvest Breed
Mellow and good. Decidedly a product of it's time. As with many of these albums I probably won't come back to it but I'm glad to have experienced it.
This was a pleasant folkie/coffee house chill album from an artist I had never heard of before. I can see coming back to this some time and checking out more from this artist. Favorite tracks include: Things Behind the Sun, From the Morning, and maybe Know.
Fine. A three. Feel like some of this has been picked up in the popular media over the last few years???
Nothing really memorable here for me
Very pretty and spare and not nearly as difficult as I expected. Lacks substance, so is quickly forgotten, but a pretty listen and clocking in under half an hour.
calming, soothing, relaxing. deep but at the surface, very expressive.
50 years prior to every new artist from the PNW sounding exactly like this
Like it
3.5. Need to listen again
dreamy, a specific mood tho
it's misrable that his songs were reassessed after his death like Gogh. I feel the vibe of George Harrison and bit of west american.
C+ Pink Moon 3 Place to Be 3 Road 3 Which Will 3 Horn* 3 Things Behind the Sun 4 Know 2 Parasite 3 Free Ride 3 Harvest Breed 2 From the Morning 3 The Nick Drake trilogy is great.
Started good.
Melancholic-folk from a man with a strange accent
Excellent acoustic guitar. Nice background listening
It was a nice, dinner party type album. I enjoyed it. I have to be in a certain mood to listen again.
Parasite is my favourite, but all in all not really for me. Great artwork
Kinda nice but very background and didn’t even notice when album looped on repeat
Gentle, easy music. All a bit similar, but still fairly nice to listen to.
Really enjoyed Pink Moon, couple of other songs are okay, but not an amazing album for me.
so sweet, usually this kinda music is too quiet and chill for my taste but this guy felt like he had something to say, and his story is so sad, parasite, free ride, and others too, would prolly listen to when sad
I listened to it in the morning and was gonna rate it 2. but then at night I went to the park and sat down in the grass and listened again and now I rate it a 3
old but chill a vibe
feels like what indie started as
I don't get it
Fairly good... rather slow. Not the best slow music out there.
I hate that you can't do decimals bc this falls around a 3.5 for me but I can't quite justify rounding up. I like it but nothing sticks out to me as like INCREDIBLE or anything
Suoraan mun akustiselle listalle.
There's some lovely stuff here, mostly in the very spare guitar passages and some choice vocal lines. At times it dips a bit into the Jack Johnson easy listening territory that is a bit teeth clenching, but I don't think I'd ever be upset hearing this. Fave track: From the Morning
Interesting. Guitar is very well recorded.
Sweet and gentle and there’s charm in voice and guitar. A talent but not an artist I tend to gravitate towards.
Fun fact: If you're reading this, you should listen to Molly Drake if you never have before. Album #4. I've felt extremely spoiled with the albums I've been provided the past few days, which may contribute to this one's (surprisingly) more average rating. However, I claim that it perhaps isn't the best place to start with this artist's work, and while Drake's guitar playing is extremely effective in its textures and percussiveness, I found myself unexpectedly wishing for a stronger melodic strain. That said, the combination of emotions and talent are impossible to deny, and I hope that I'll get to review his other albums for this project.
hmmm campground type music. too bad i FUCKKING HATE CAMPING. i think my favorite song was free ride, otherwise it was nice probably wouldn't put it on again. album art is neat
I liked free ride the most. Generally enjoyable. 3/5
Zoned out for the whole thing. Clearly wasn’t anything that notably bad or great then
Very good! Gentle and pretty, though the stripped back feel felt a little one note at time. Though it doesn’t overstay it’s welcome. Enjoyed it.
I can’t believe Drake made this album in one day. He definitely could’ve become one of the GOATs of folk
A bit dull
Heard before. That cover stays with me. Can't get into it that much, but I stay for the story behind the making of. + Horn + Know + Parasite + Harvest Breed
Iha jees!
Okay, but dull.
digging the following tracks: - pink moon - place to be - things behind the sun - harvest breed not a huge fan of some of the other tracks - the album cover is cool though... turns out it's one of these cult albums, dude died super young, had depression, etc.
I listened to most of it and it was pretty good
I really enjoyed this album. It has some really nice first riffs and lyrics
Alright album. Reading his Wikipedia page gave some interesting context to it. Gentle enough to be decent background music but could potentially put you to sleep. Favorite track: Free Ride Album art: 4/5
Mysigt
Väldigt bra och mysigt album Bästa låt: Things behind the sun
Good music for reading. Weirdly romantic. Reminds me of Garden State/HIMYM soundtracks. Overall a little too samey, a little too precious, but very pleasant the whole way through. 3/5
I thought it was funny that I got Erykah Badu's "Mama's Gun," which has a song called "Orange Moon," right before this. This album is nice and pretty I guess. Didn't really keep my attention. Did not like the title track but the rest was pleasant enough.
68/100
Preferred the previous two Nick Drake albums
nice album, but felt very one tone, one vibe, but all nice songs
Good walking to class vibes
Track 1 - Okay Track 2 - Okay Track 3 - V Good Track 4 - P Good Track 5 - Good Track 6 - V Good Track 7 - Good Track 8 - P Good Track 9 - V Good Track 10 - Track 11 - Excellent
Real nice. Good length for an acoustic album too. Found myself really listening to the guitar. Wish I spent more time listening to the lyrics 3.8
Good calming album
meh 3*
Nice, but apart from one song, just is wallpaper
The album was a bit one note, and I felt as though I could barely understand a word he was saying. It was one of those albums, where if you hear one of the songs you already know what most of the other songs sound like.
Not my usual every day music but it's really calming and relaxing
very nice, but not my favorite thing ever
Vilsamt
Beautiful guitar playing and beautiful singing. This is a particularly mellow album but soothing and calming for the right mood.
Nick Drake is like your favorite indie singer songwriter's favorite indie singer songwriter. His story is definitely one of the sadder ones in music too. He was like a friendly, soft-spoken recluse who never had the recognition that he deserved until after he died. IIRC he released this album and then stopped playing shows and moved back in with parents where he died from an overdose of antidepressants. Just super sad all around. As for the music, it's beautiful. He has such a soft timbre in his voice that these days is such a template for a singer songwriter who also uses these weird alternate/open guitar tunings to make chord sounds that are unfamiliar to modern popular music. It's a beautiful and wonderfully emotional art. My knock against his music is that I've always had to be in a specific mood to sit and listen. It's not very dimensional and it's almost too consistent with itself. The guitar playing will always be beautiful. His voice will always be beautiful. But I really gotta be in the right mood to sit through an album and not come out the other side feeling bummed out.
Knowing Nick Drake passed away shortly after this album could potentially colour one’s opinion about Pink Moon. Out of respect for the dead, I’ll say that I didn’t mind this album but it did not impress me. I’d rather have been listening to Elliott Smith.
The first track doesn't sell me but there's some such pretty, serene progressions. serene but not in a sense of boring background noise, but a sweeps one away kind of serene. one of few albums where it ends before I'd like it to. Very romantically sad, surprised its a rob no on that front but i understand the lack of melodic definition being offputting. I do think nick drake is growing on me
It's fine... not fantastic, not horrible.
Cat: I really enjoyed this. Vocals sound great, guitar is beautiful and intricate and the lyrics are poetic. The music is deceptively upbeat for such self-deprecating subjects! Would listen again and dig deeper. AJ: pretty cool. Nice guitar and voice. Wish I could understand his vocals more. But then I kinda liked not knowing too.
second folk/singer-songwriter album in a row huh.. i feel almost guilty for give it 3 stars but i guess i'm just not the biggest "single acoustic guitar and a guy" kind of music person i'm sorry women... like i didn't think it was bad but maybe i should give it a second listen at some point to get the simplicity of it, maybe it's a question of the right mood and place. also i was surprised by how short it is? and this album cover goes so hard
Not bad, but not my type of music, feels slow and boring to me. I think with the right mood would be good.
perfekt sovemusikk
Just the least interesting to me of the Nick Drake albums. Obviously the dreariness is the point, but this one suffers that killer combo of being kinda boring too. Things Behind the Sun is tremendous though.
28 minutes of waiting for him to do something. things behind the sun, parasite
Nice acoustical folk...
This dude must have inspired an entire generation of whispery singer-songwriters. The album itself is quaint, and frankly a little boring, but I can’t help but find it oddly touching. Crushingly intimate, like he’s singing right to me. The fact that it's shorter really works in its favor; doesn't overstay its welcome. Not something I’d put on much, but sincere and worthwhile. Best song: Pink Moon
Odd, with hints of genius
Quite similar sounding throughout, good bit of folk.
A name I knew, but I'm not sure I've ever knowingly searched out Drake to listen to. I might have come across something he wrote on a compilation playlist, but it's not music I'm familiar with. But I do like a bit of folk music. My taste is probably either a bit more trad, a bit more celtic and/or a bit more upbeat, but this was perfectly pleasant to listen to and Quite Interesting, without standing out as being something I'd go back to time and time again. Reading about the album has made me go back and listen to some of the other stuff Drake produced with more of a band feel to it - which immediately led me to Hazey Jane II which sounds awfully like early Belle and Sebastian. Which is a Good Thing - and interesting to get a feeling maybe where some of that sound came from. But as an album I now understand why Pink Moon is the one to come back to. I might listen to this again, but I wouldn't make a regular fixture out of it. But it's perfectly decent and I get where it's coming from.
Soothing, but all songs sound alike. Still a nice and intimate acoustic album. 3/5
3/5 I hate to keep saying this, but this was nice, calm background music. It was pretty guitar and he seemed a skilled plucker, but it isn't something I'll return to.
Perfect music to sort seaglass to. Warm gentle music, well sung and nice fingerpicked guitar accompanying it.
I liked it, not as much as the last album on here, but still pleasant albeit a little Starbucks lobby-y
muy buenas letras
This was a nice acoustic listen, short and sweet.
absolutely baller album cover. i was v excited abt this but it fell a bit flat for me.
Had to stop listening
Not his best, but ok
Muttery vox, skittery strums. Pleasantly chill.
Another one I own. Cool
I remember listening to this album a few times about 20 years ago, but I haven't really returned to it since. It is a beautiful album, but I do agree that it kind of meanders along nicely and gets kind of samey over the course of its 28 minutes. I get why people love it and I get why some may find it boring. I'm kind of in between those two positions.
Doesn't have the same flow as five leaves left .
I never used to like U2, mainly because of The Fly video, but suprised myself and liked a lot of this album
Listened to this while cleaning and such. After reading the reviews I feel like I should go back and listen again
Extra star for the music sounding very timeless - it didn't sound 70s at all - but nothing that great, just a man and his guitar.
Nice enough
So fun
Never a fan of this album
Like many people my age, my introduction to Nick Drake was a VW commercial. And while I think advertising in general is superficial and manipulative (and even kinda evil at times), it's actually about as artful as a commercial can get. It's a sweet little vignette, and the wistful accompaniment of Drake's "Pink Moon" is what makes it work. (I can't believe I'm praising a commercial, but here we are. Hell hath frozen over.) Commercials aside, this was my first time diving into one of Drake's albums, and I'd hoped to find more to enjoy, and I did, sorta. Apart from a little piano in the title track, it's just Drake and his guitar, and that's not bad in small doses, but when it's an entire album it all ends up sounding rather similar. The stripped down nature of the album is to blame, especially his vocals. His delivery is nearly identical on every song—soft and understated (at times to fault). This album's nice if you want something to blend into the background while you do other stuff, or are trying to coax a kid to sleep (I'd imagine), but it's not something I'd reach for if I wanted to actively and attentively listen to music (minus the title track, which is fantastic).
Reminded of Ben Harper and G-Love and wonder if this was an early influence. Some riffs also gave a Jagged Little Pill feel.
This short album dripping with depression is a metaphor for Drake’s short life, not even living long enough to reach the 27 Club. Other people see the sun shining, but he sees only the moon. I guess that sentiment can be taken as evidence of his depression, but perhaps he’s singing of hope in the face of such looming darkness. I think he evokes cathartic feelings within his listeners without himself being depressed in the moment of recording the music. After all, he follows themes of flight and finding the right road, both common themes of hope.
3.4/5
Gostei. Nada muito marcante, mas interessante. Também não conhecia o artista
A little too sleepy IMO, but not unpleasant.
Nice. Enjoyed it. Not much more to say.
minimalist, haunting, and leaves you wanting something, but you don't know what.
A nice, calm and refreshing album. I really enjoyed the guitar and picking, as well as the vocal quality. Not an album I would rush to but definitely an album I would put on in the background while painting, colouring or cooking (or any other hands-on task). I will admit that at some point it felt like all the songs melded into one extra long song as they were all very similar and I couldn't really differentiate them. My favourite songs: Road, Pink Moon and Know
Its fine, i'm not depressed and i dont' drink coffee, so not really into it.
I've heard Nick Drake before! This is the Garden State guy! Same great soft sounds, but still not something I would actively seek out.
6/10. I don't love how he sings, but some of the songs were fairly interesting
Meh
First half is fantastic. The second half of the album falls off a bit.
An underappreciated talent. I think he balances his voice and his guitar playing more harmoniously than any other artist I know - it's beautifully weighted. His earlier album, five leaves left, is one of my favourites I've come across on this site. I like this too, but I don't think it's as good. I find his delivery inferior, and I think his laid back singing style, while often gorgeous, does stray into muttery/muddy territory at times. I also don't think the songs are as carefully crafted, and he occasionally falls into the same muscle-memory guitarry patterns. It's still beautiful, but remembering how blown away I was by the previous one, this falls a bit short
Short and sweet. I guess you could call it "soothing". Nice guitar.
Bit Boring
Truly talented artist. Grateful for this project; would not have heard of him otherwise.
not sure about this album art. I've heard Pink Moon many times but never realized that was what he was saying...
5/10
Pretty much all the songs on this album I would classify as feeling "nice" and soothing. However, because it's just vocals and an acoustic guitar for the whole album, it's still a bit boring and made me kinda sleepy. Still, overall I would call this a positive listening experience.
I think I kinda liked it?
Early 1970s acoustic music. Kind of like a "more-chill Cat Stevens". I had trouble understanding the lyrics, but really liked the music. Relaxing.
Melancholic. Felt like I was in an indie film
Melancholic
Very mellow. Nice songs but a bit boring.
Surprising because I usually hate this kind of crap. But the songwriting talent is pretty noteworthy here. The album's other strength is its brevity.
Best lekkere relaxte muziek maar ook saai
I quite enjoyed this as background music. Can't say I listened too closely. Don't know if I'm motivated to go back to it and listen more carefully.
Very chill album. Acoustic and chill.
Quite quaint and cute, but a little too melancholic for me.
Solid Nick Drake. 3/5
Nick Drake is a pervert. That just needed to be said. In regards to Pink Moon, I'm not really kind of sicko who immediately thinks of a young boy's pert bum sticking up in the air for me to insert my meaty dong into and any of you who thought that should be ashamed.
now that i’ve heard his back story i feel very bad admitting that this album was just so sad. it was pretty and i did understand it but it was just so sad
I liked this one, especially the (I assume) finger picking guitar style. Soft and contemplative lyrics. Sounds contemporary despite being 50 years old.
Some nice acoustic songs here but I was not wowed by anything I heard. I’m guessing this was pretty influential on lots of indie folk artists which so why it’s here.
Pretty good, Short, sweet and never really felt like I was forcing myself through it.
Easy listening. Nothing memorable
Interesting. I like the album artwork. And the songs were quite soothing to listen to - I wanted to like them a whole lot more, but it just missed the mark. Still, not bad.
the first 2 songs are good the rest are early campfire fold
søtt og sørgelig. Jeg har hørt på dette før. Sangen glir litt sammen - men Absolut behagelig.
With an album cover like that, I expected it to be a grandiose or at least an adventurous folk album. But it's not. It's a sparsely produced folk album with only a guitar and (great) vocals that runs for less than 30 minutes. And while I wasn't really drawn that much with this minimalist approach (the fact that I'm not a fan of folk compounded this), I can definitely say that it has depth. It's dark, melancholic, and just sad especially when you know the background. I don't mind revisiting this one, but as of now, it's safe to say that I find the experience a decent one.
I recognise the the album cover, it’s quirky but good. I think I’ve herd of the name before… The album starts off with the title track it’s an okay folk track with an odd chorus. Place to be is slightly better I prefer the guitars on here. Then is road I like both parts if this song lyrically and the fingerpicking is nice. Which will is a good song it is repetitive with every song starting with the same line but it’s alright. Horn is a nice instrumental it fits well on the album but I don’t love it. Things behind the sun is so far the album’s best song! The lyrics are good, so are the lyrics and the vocals are the best so far. Know has some nice guitar work and the humming works well. There’s only a few lyrics and they come on really late so I think it would’ve been a better album opener. Parasite is another favourite of mine on here I like the build up on this song. And the line “ for I am the parasite of this town” has to be a favourite lyric. Like all these songs I like the lyrics and the instrumentals in free ride but I don’t like the way he sings here. Harvest breed felt way too short but I liked it. From the morning is nice it works well as the album’s closer. It’s also a pretty beautiful sendoff. I liked the album but I think that I respected it more than I enjoyed it. The album’s really, I mean really short! But all the songs have some beauty to them, and while I’am not a big fan of his vocals I would rather them then any modern mumble rapper or over produced pop star.
Wasn't dissapointing, but there was no standing ovation either. A bunch of calm ballads to fill the void of silence. Minimalistic compositions and a light-hearted voice made an enjoyable combination. A really intimate record, which I might find more appealing played on a cold winter night with a mug of mulled wine.
It is a good album. However, it is too flat, all songs sound the same. I liked it but I completely understand when people fall asleep halfway through the album... and it is just a 28min album...
aightt
Ok, enjoyed this more than the last Nick Drake recommendation. And its short, actually listened to this twice.
A bit too acoustic for my taste, but I appreciate the wistful vocals. Happy to hear the original Road which I knew as a track from “Out Freakage” by Drive
Astonishing what one can do with just an acoustic guitar and some storytelling, no mixing, no backing instruments, no extravagances. With the right audience. I can see the potential of this album, although it didn't quite resonate with me.
pretty
3.5 if I could. A little too sleepy for me in normal circumstances
A bit boring, mostly decent. A few songs have impressive guitar / chord arrangement.
Better than the other ND we did. Highly listenable, if not necessarily memorable.
Slow singer-songwriter guitar work, kind of an even boring pace to start but got more interesting in the deep tracks.
3, so soothing it makes me type in lowercase
I like Nick Drake a lot but this is actually my least favourite of his 3 albums
Just a guy and a guitar
3.5 stars I enjoyed this more than the previous Nick Drake album listed. This sounds more contemporary to me and has an alt folk feel.
I am not truly familiar with Nick Drake, even though I do have WAY TO BLUE - AN INTRODUCTION TO NICK DRAKE, a 1994 compilation which I’ve only listened to a couple of times and found it was not my cup of tea. With PINK MOON, I found Nick Drake with a very strong voice with clean, crisp guitar playing. I like PINK MOON a little better than WAY TO BLUE, however overall, this is still not my cup of tea. I do see the appeal of Nick for people. In 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, I see and find it interesting that Nick Drake’s full discography is included in the book which includes FIVE LEAVES LEFT (1969) # 0150 and BRYTER LAYTER (1970) # 0191, so I am not sure hiw I feel about listening to these other albums when they appear. Evidently, 1001 Albums think highly of Nick Drake. I don’t expect too much replaying of Nick’s music. Rate Artist: Nick Drake (2.5) Rate Album (Year): Pink Moon (1972 Original) (3)
A warm hug of an album that flashes in and out of existence hardly before it gets started. What makes this short, sweet LP work is the rawness of Drake's vocals and performance - the rasping of guitar strings silhouetted against his dulcet vox makes it feel as you've stumbled upon his performance umprompted.
Listened to this album a while back and was really into it. Gave it another chance today and enjoyed it. Didn’t blow me away or anything but definitely something I’ll revisit.
This deserves another listen.
Its nice. 3/5
its nice but i didnt love it
Short bites, bittersweet.
Folk. Cantautor. Suave y agradable.
Saw it written and I saw it say Pink moon is on its way And none of it is completely ill or brill, But Pink Moon is chill
The single acoustic guitar and lone voice make this a tender and intimate album. It was beautiful and calming, but nothing really stood out to me in it.
His previous album was better, but this one is also OK.
Short! Depressing. Familiar, but can't pinpoint where I've heard any of the songs.
It was allright, the guitar work was really good. Open tuning was really good. His voice is what didn't make it for me. Tolerable, probably wouldn't listen again. Kind of like a wimpy version of Leo Kotke. Sort of sad bastard music, not a single song that was an earworm for me.
So quite music…
Selvästi vähemmän kiinnostava kokonaisuus kuin aiemmin listalle arvosteltu timanttinen Five Leaves Left. Levyjen tunnelma on hyvin samankaltainen, mutta sävellysten ja sovitusten laatu on Five Leaves Leftillä aivan eri luokkaa. Muutamallakaan kuuntelulla en oikein oppinut nauttimaan tästä, vaikkei levyssä sinänsä mitään vikaa olekaan. Jännittävää miten saman artistin kaksi samantyylistä levyä aiheuttaa näin erilaisentunnereaksion.
Pleasant and I like the sparcity.
A fairly pleasant listen - nothing wild but chill late 70s pop
Nice enough, but not a patch on Five Leaves Left
Nice melancholic and slow folk, missing some versatility for a higher rating though
// Favs: – Score: Light 3
Lovely, soft, and hypnotic with a very bittersweet melancholy.
There are some aspects of the music that I really like. But in the end it simply isn't enough for me. Not intense enough, not varied enough, not interesting enough, not quite beautiful enough (not too far off either though).
One man and his acoustic guitar.. not bad but not soothing I will listen to again
the guitar playing on this is immaculate but i'm not super interested by the vocals. still very relaxing to listen to
Not bad. I think I would have liked it better if the lyrics weren't so indiscernible.
An interesting album from an artist I'm not familiar with. The acoustic guitar parts are awesome, and I'm generally a big fan of acoustic rock. The guitar parts are incredible and really the main attraction to this album. His singing style however doesn't do too much for me. It's soothing but it doesn't draw me in to listen closer to the lyrics, or make me want to sing along. I think my main issue is that as an album it feels like it lacks variety. Nick Drake has a style, and he sticks to it. But there isn't much change in tempo, or virtually no change in dynamics from one song to the next so as the album goes on, each song blends into the next one. Only the closing song is really significantly faster than previous ones. This makes it a standout for sure, but I with there was more variety throughout. I feel like I'll probably explore the artist a bit more in the future, but I don't see myself listening to him very often. Though I could also see this album growing on me with each listen. I could definitely see myself trying to learn to play some of these guitar parts. I'd give it 3.5* if allowed. But it just falls short of 4 for me. If it was just instrumental, or had a few more songs mixed in that were purely instrumental I might jump it up. Favorite Songs: Horn, Things beyond the sun.
It might be a little harsh but I just didn't love the songs. I remember listening to his first album a few years back and I fell in love with it. This one not so much. I think it lacks the backing instuments
this is really deep. But looking at the cover art, I thought this would be a rock album and was kind of let down.
Really like the vibe on this album.
Está chulo pero un poco repetitivo.
Very cool, very chill album. Good acoustic songwriting and just an enjoyable listen. Didn’t understand most of the lyrics but the tone was wonderful.
New to me and it's an interesting album. An album of honest expression.
Very low-key. Would be good for a certain mood, like a chill evening or similar. Overall, not unpleasant, but also nothing really grabbed me or stood out. 6/10.
I've had very little exposure to Nick Drake. (And he to me.) I think the first time I heard him is actually on the Garden State Soundtrack (shoutout to an album that had a big influence on my musical journey - any soundtracks on this list?), and from the start of "Pink Moon" it was immediately familiar because it sounded so much like "One of These Things First" from that album. I enjoy Drake’s style, but I waited until after 9 pm to write this so don’t have much to say about it. Good chill/relaxing background music, though it does get repetitive.
Very vibey and quiet, lots of acoustic guitar and soft singing
I would listen to this on a rainy day, I like his voice but I get bored by the end of the album.
A little bit boring
Enjoyable but nothing standout
Very basic album, great for background music when working.
Haven't heard of him so excited. Not really my style but was very good music and quite relaxing.
I was familiar with the first track, and surprised how good the rest of the album is.
I don't think I'm smart enough for this album. The lyrics are basically poetry and the rhythms go way past standard 4/4. Due to Nick Drake being such a loner, he had no one else playing on this work, but he could have been huge if he could have collaborated with others. It's also why I can't rate it highly. Sure, pink moon is good and technically it is all good, but this is a 3.5 or a 7 out of 10. It just needs more and I don't think he had written his opus before he died. This was just a taste.
Garden State! This album will be good for days when I feel depressed. It's sound is comforting, but they all sound kinda the same.
Really lovely acoustic album with some beautiful tracks
Just okay
Things Behind The Sun Pink Moon Guitar/vocals only. Really good!
Nice, pretty, calm music. Good background rainy day tunes.
