Eh. It’s not really my jam. I prefer my psychedelic music to have more of an edge, and I’m not a huge fan of the 60s pop this samples extensively from. But it’s well-written and eminently listenable. I’ll probably never seek it out, but it’s a decent album.
Too musical sounding but good psychedelic songs
update: honestly, this is one of the best things I've heard in a while. The songs are incredibly catchy yet not too simple to remain engaging upon repeated listens. the songwriting is incredibly varied, the instrumentation is great (i love the drum playing and the occasional organ solo) and the vocals with the harmonies are just perfect. happy, uplifiting but with a hidden undertones of shadow - just not too sweet! I'm listening to this on the first day of spring, which seems like a perfect day to blast it to the entire world through open windows. 5/5
Good British Invasion band. Time of the Season is an absolute classic. The lyrics were better than expected - for example, there's a song about religious leaders encouraging young men to go fight in wars despite never having to witness the horrors of war themselves, and a song about how the singer is genuinely happy for the couples he knows who are in good relationships - not a common subject!
Was interesting to listen to, good background music for working! I don't typically listen to music from the 60s, not even the Beatles, so this was a nice departure.

A truely great psych pop album
Can't believe I've never listened to these guys before. I loved the vocals and vocal arrangements. Lots of cool chord voicings and things like that. I just love psychedelic chamber pop stuff like this.

Classic 60s. Words in songs and organ music. I enjoyed it-especially the songs I know that are classic rock and roll. It’s The Time of The Season and She’s Not There.
A very surprising album by The Zombies! First few minutes in, you could tell that they were way ahead of their times. A pretty simple and entertaining rock melodies, a la early The Beatles, but the vocals were really amazing! At some point on the album you could tell if those guys are a recent band or are actually from sixties. The harmonies bu band members were perfect, "This will be Our Year" was just an example of great song created with simple measures. How come they aren't much more popular? They are on this list, but I would suspect at least a little bit more popculture references. Nevertheless, it was so nice to discover this band, I am sure I will come back to it many times In future.

This was an okay album.
It's like part dreamy part epic which I guess describes psychedelica lol but it's not like woooOoooOoo 9 minute jam sessions (not that there's anything wrong with that) it's subtle. Nice harmonies, cool instrumentation

Time of the Season stands out like a sore thumb. Definitely a bright bright light on this album. The rest of clean, pleasant, sometimes whimsical, with quintessential harmonies. Nice, but not much else really memorable.
"Odessey and Oracle" is the second album by the English rock band The Zombies. It was recorded at EMI (Abbey Road) and Olympic Studios in 1967 and self-financed independently since they were dumped by their record label Decca Records. The album was eventually released in 1968 by CBS Records after the band had broken up. The album did not do well immediately after its released but began to gather a cult following which has resulted in numerous reunion performances. The music is classified as baroque pop, chamber pop, pyschedelic pop and pop-rock, all of which adequately fit. The music reminded me of The Beach Boys with the harmonies and early Pink Floyd. I hear their influences in The Stone Roses. All band members contributed to the vocals and consisted of Colin Blunstone (lead vocals, percussion), Rod Argent (keyboards), Paul Atkinson (guitar), Chris White (bass) and Hugh Grundy (drums). The album start with "Care of Cell 44" which is the happiest song about a prison that I've heard. Strings. Nice backing vocals. Writing to a person in prison awaiting their release. "Beechwood Oak" has a more pyschedelic, early Pink Floyd vibe. Guitar. Organ. Great backing vocals. Remembering a girl at Beechwood Park. "Hung Up on a Dream" has strings, piano and firmly in the baroque pop area. A pyschedelic dream. Hmmm...wonder if any drugs were done? Side two continues the baroque pop with "Changes." I really liked the Beach Boys harmonization in this one. The fourth single "Butcher's Tale (Western Front 1914)" is different lyrically than anything else. It's still in pyschedelic music area with the keyboards but the only song sung by Chris White and about a butcher who goes to war based on a sermon but now regrets it....not sure I'm on board with this one. The first single was "Friends of Me" and is straight-forward pop and another one with great harmonies. A happy sounding song but the guy singing sees all his friends have lovers but not him. And then the closer is their big one "Time of the Season." Who doesn't know that unique groove of the percussion, bass and the "Ahhh." A groovy organ jam. It seems obviously about free lovin.' Hey, they were near the Summer of Love. This is a really, really good album. Sounding sort of like other bands but still very much its own. I can see why it has its cult following. Anytime you can reference The Beach Boys, early Pink Floyd and The Stone Roses in an album is a good thing in my world.
Some stand out classics and some songs I hadn't heard before that I enjoyed but overall the tracks were very similar, nit much variation.
Surprisingly mysterious and lovely.
A beautiful psychedelic baroque pop masterpiece. It's fun, goofy, and optimistic with a bombastic and dynamic range in harmonies; the vocals blend together to immerse you. The instrumentation has a bright and pleasant classical feel to them. It's spacious, providing room for the keyboards and other instruments to fill the atmosphere while the vocals come in to supplement emotion. Almost all the songs have catchy choruses and memorble melodies. We start with "Care of Cell 44" setting the themes and tricks that the album will convey to set it apart from pretty much any album that has come before or after. They really put all their strengths here, especially how they mix a capella with lush instrumentation. My favorite part is the psychedelic bridge that puts you into a temporary dreamscape before pulling you back into the next verse. Also really love that extended ending that just goes on: it's so satisfying and complete, exciting me for the rest of the album. "A Rose for Emily" is the exact opposite type of song: a simple ballad that shows the power and versatility of our vocalists. The attention to diverted to the lyrics as you learn to look out for it. "Maybe After He's Gone" picks up the tempo and emotion, very folk like but also the way it conveys so powerful and dark, it's almost gothic. My favorite part is the bridge, but again has a satisfying ending. "Beechwood Park" is a personal favorite, happy yet melancholic, with a loud chorus but otherwise a nostalgic and reflective melody. "Brief Candles" features very baroque verses (which I'm not too big of a fan of) and a fantastic energetic chorus. Love the angelic bridge. "Hung up on a Dream" features a trippy jangly guitar (reminds me of Byrds) and hazy angelic vocals, which is followed by another really psychedelic song "Changes" that sounds like a wild drum circle. "I Want Her She Wants Me" is a personal favorite, such a cheery and dreamy song. Fantastic hook to excite me immediately, with lyrics that feel like walking on a street on a good trip, and a dramatic and optimistic coda. I think "This Will Be Our Year" is a romantic ballad, and I like the chorus, but I don't like where it goes, probably one of my least favorites despite its acclaim and how many times it's been covered. "Butcher's Tale" is one of the eeriest tracks, sounding like a ghost ship pirate shanty. Really love the loud chorus."Friends of Mine" is a fun sunshine pop song, a bit chaotic (especially those cymbal crashes) but like exploding in happiness. Finally we end with the summer of love anthem "Time of the Season", groovy and catchy, I love everything about it, but from the echoey vocals to the loving lyrics to the gasps back vocals to the trippy solo. I seriously love this album and all its tracks. Although I have a few complaints, it's impressive how memorable and unique all 12 were, and how I could compliment several things about them all. Honestly, the only major complaint is the track ordering which could make it more cohesive. I feel "This Will be the year" would be an appropriate closer, but since I'm not too big of a fan, I do personally enjoy the bombastic end with the hit "Time of the season."
Lovely in every way

Having been taken by the band Argent and being aware of the hits of the Zombies I came by this album as it was bundled as a double with their greatest hits. What a bargain! The album soon became a mainstay on the turntable. It is simple a superb collection of varied songs. Yes its genesis of its time but it does appear to span the generations. Exemplified by their short, but stunning, tour of the album 40 years after its release.
A Rose For Emily is one of my favourite songs of all time. And I'd forgotten how good Care of Cell 44 is too. Time of the Season is a full blown classic too. Whole album is ace tbf. Sometimes feels like the sort of British whimsy that Spinal Tap skewered so well, but when it's this infectious and fun you really can't complain. Absolutely brilliant from start to finish.
A pretty decent, but not extraordinary, psych-rock-pop album from an era absolutely saturated with such works. Capable but formulaic.
I really hoped to like this album, but really didn't. I kept thinking, if this was a book, I'd put it aside. But I was driving and kept it going. I found it interested that the 'hit' from it was so different from the actual rest of the album.
60s psychedelic pop is my jam
Quite possibly the most hippiest album I’ve listened to. If this was rhe 60s I’d be in a meadow, high as a kite jamming to this. Unfortunately it’s 2022 and I’m as low as the marinas trench.

Great album. The first 2 tracks and both mega hits for me, even more than time of the season. The rest of it was always pleasant and when it ended i was disappointed it was over.
This is a wonderful album. It's short, breezy, and pleasant. And yet it manages to pack in so much creativity. Their vocal harmonies are consistently on-point, and their lead singer has a voice that's so easy to listen to. He doesn't even really stretch it until "This Will Be Our Year", but then just absolutely crushes that. Half the songs are super-catchy sing-alongs, but with a surprising amount of compositional sophistication. The modulation to the m3 / m6 mid-verse on "Care of Cell 44" is jarring but works perfectly, as are the similar chromatic lines to conclude the chorus of "Time of the Season" and the verses of "Beechwood Park". And I'm a total sucker for repeated themes, which they have both writ-small and writ-large - nowhere better than the section of "Changes" that re-quotes "Flowers for Emily". The production isn't perfect - it was 1968, which is a reasonable excuse, although in a somewhat unfair comparison, contemporary Beatles records had better sound quality and more lush instrumentation - but it's got a dreamy sound (leaning like a man with one leg on that Leslie organ) that works perfectly for the style.

Great Moody Blues album!
This one is a sleeper and brings back memories of the 60s. While there are some vague similarities between the Zombies and The Beatles, the only real connection is that both bands recorded at Apple Studios. The big hit on this album was "Time of the Season," but others deserve mention, including "Care of Cell 44," "This Will Be Our Year," and "Butcher's Tale." Nice album.

This was pretty good! I was surprised I wasn’t more familiar with this band, but I only knew “Time of the Season.” I would listen to this again.
Listened Before? N This album was trippy, man! Lots of stereo separation for the sake of itself, and lots of acid-washed lyrics and organs. I enjoyed it but some of the stuff was a bit over-the-top. Butcher's Tale, in particular, could have done with a good dose of subtlety. It comes off as a shock track with super violent and uncomfortable lyrics. I see what the objective was, but many, many bands did political discourse against war better. So, you go through this whole album, and then you hit the last track "Time of the Season" which is completely out of place as a pop standard.... it seemed like a cash-in or sell out. Anyway, its the best song on the record, so that's what I've added to my playlist this time. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Time of the Season

Essence of the 60's, I was actually quite surprised how I enjoyed it. Few songs stood out (Care of Cell 44, Changes), generally more a of a very pleasant background music.
harmonizing 60s folk pop, psychedelic stuff. Feels like a cheap Beattles rip off at times.
Before listening, I mistook The Zombies for The Cranberries. I was disappointed to learn I wasn't about to listen to a whole Cranberries album.

It is a psychedelic rock album. It was alright. I was familiar with Time of the Season. The album was short.
Absolutely incredible album. It's amazing how all of the songs flow together and how "cool" it all sounds, especially Time of the Season. That song is the highlight of the album and it's a great way to close it off. But the entire album is a pleasant ride through psychadelica. Definitely worth checking out.

i got a little excited when i saw zombies so i was a bit let down this wasn't the cranberries. its very inoffensive, which is the total opposite of SHACK in trousers.
It's the musical equivalent of SHACK in trousers.
A bit Pet Sounds, a bit Village Green Preservation Society, a bit Sgt. Pepper, a bit Forever Changes. It's a decent album but it's very late '60s psychedelia by numbers. It's like SHACK wearing trousers. We all like SHACK in trousers, you're still getting a lot of SHACK but it's not making you wet in quite the same way as SHACK in short shorts.
• I’m not a fan of most 60’s music, and unfortunately this is not exception. • Most of the songs are very typical of the era, and mostly sound like Beatles rejects. • The final two songs are exceptions to this, and I actually enjoyed them quite a bit. • Friends of Mine grabbed me with the repeated pairs of names and Time of the Season is just a good song. • If it weren’t for these last two songs this would be a 2/5. Looks trippy… The album starts with care of cell 44 it’s a boring version of the normal 60’s psychedelic songs shame really but I still love this sound in general. Okay the first song may have been boring but only compared to the whole genre but a rose for Emily is a boring tune in general. Maybe after he’s gone was the first song I actually enjoyed but the way he sings the chorus is pronounced really wired still a good tune though! Beechwood park gas a glum sound to it but this males it really good I’am happy the album is upping its quality. Brief candles is quite a good slow track with a very explosive chorus. Hung up on a dream is slightly like a day in the life by the Beatles ( this song isn’t as good as a day in the life but still an awesome tune). Ooh some tribal drums changes is wired but captivating at the same time, yeah really liked this one. I want her she wants me is a very upbeat number fun but not a favourite. I very vaguely recognise this will be our year it’s a great single anyway and it works really well on this album. Butchers tale ( western front 1914) is the darkest sounding song with amazing church organs easy favourite! Friends of mine is very happy and upbeat sounding tune don’t love it don’t hate it. The album ends on a perfect note with time of the season a brilliant single that I definitely recognised amazing song. It starts off rocky and ends amazing so 4/5.

How would it feel to realize “Odyssey” was misspelled on your new record cover? If your The Zombies, probably just fine because the music on this album is so great! I’ve always loved “Time of the Season”, but hearing the rest of this album released just weeks after I was born was a trippy, fantastic little journey. Two more really standout tracks I fell in instant love with were “Care of Cell 44” and “Brief Candles.”

Fun group of psychedelic pop. The big hit Time of the Season closes the set. I didn’t realize the Zombies had done This Will Be Our Year, which I think was covered by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs in the early 2000s.
Big fan of the Zombies since I was first introduced to them by a massive Canadian singing "Time of the Season" at karaoke in the wee hours of the morning. This was therefore a delightful chaser after the Jon Spencer Blues Shitplosion that preceded it.

I'm a sucker for these kinds of dreamy, hippie, late-60s albums. This one has some solid tunes, and one obvious classic. It did all start to bleed together and become redundant. I like The Zombies a lot, but I think they play best in greatest hits.

An okay psychedelic album from the 60s. Very Beatles esque but it was around the same time as Sgt. Peppers and even before the Beatles recorded at Abbey Road. This album saves its best song for last. It has a good combination of pop and rock mixed with the popular 60s style of psychedelic however I didn’t find the songs that exciting. It more so just for the mold. 6.2/10

Beautiful dreamy melodies.
I listened to this album with low expectations. Ok, chien had 5 stars but there's not much predictive skill in that. But I listened, and once again, and once again. It's not incredibly long, that helps. The last song is of course a massive classic but it fits on the album as just one of the songs. Amazing record, very addictive. I had some associatian with Elliott Smith at some point. Google tells me he actually covered Care of cell 44. And the title is a typo. Only the greatest can afford that. All this leads inevitably to .. yes .. to 5 stars.

Album cover looks like it's going to be a psych album but a couple songs in it seems super poppy for the 60s. I really enjoyed this album. The harmonies are catchy and there is some darkness in the lyrics and instrumentation in contrast with the overall poppiness. Added 4-5 songs to Spotify and I'll be on the lookout for this album at vinyl places.
Back to the 60's, i haven't personally listened to too much material from this era but the influence of the Big Bang is definitely here in the opening track with a tinge of the psychedelic movement coming in. I'm digging the vibe here, lots of choral sections that lay pleasantly over the instrumental composition. Swelling music dropping to silence hits the emphasis on the and of songs or transition points and the song to song changes/progression is chosen well. The Zombies sound as a British rock band really come out in the vocals with some influence in the instruments, there's a Beatles-esque sound here and the bands careers did overlap. Closing out with Time of the Season had really good vocal recording, you can hear the echoes in the mastering and the crisp percussion. For me this was up there with Hung on a Dream and Changes, which as classically regarded as highlights of the album.
Quintessential 60's with the closer, but the combo of 60's britpop with broad harmonies and orchestration was unique. Still not my jam, but enjoyed.

This is one of the sounds of the 60s. Everything from the garish, psychadelic cover to the keyboards, the drum beat and harmonies. The production is crisp and clear- there's nothing to not like. I love it.
Released quietly, the Zombies split up before performing the album. Which is a shame as it is great. Really fresh sound, lovely album. Make sure you have on until the last track!
Very enjoyable and would highly recommend. Feels somewhat derivative of many other bands from the same era, but that era also pumped out some of the greatest sounds, so there's nothing necessarily wrong with that!

Pretty solid, sounds crazy good for how old it is. Very good singer, lyrics a bit surface-level through most of it but it was still very engaging even though its not my preferred genre.
If you like The Beatles, you'll like this. Time of the Season is a bop and the album as a whole sounds beautiful. It just doesn't grab me the way some other plays 60s rock does.

Fantastic Psych record. At times sounding like a continuation of pet sounds era beach boys, while still holding its own as a great 60s pop album. My only wish is for the mono version to be more readily available. Favourites: "Care Of Cell 44", "This Will Be Our Year", "Time of the Season"

Side one has that baroque stuff that flooded the market in 1967/68. But it gets way more interesting on side two. Time of the Season is a step above everything else. The closest I can come is to describe it as sinuous. There is a reason why The Beatles and Stones are so much more successful than all other '60s bands. They took psychedelia to strange, wonderful places, then moved on.
Based on my methodology which assigns 5 stars to anything that is 8 out of 10 or higher - it’s not perfect but then again what is!

I enjoyed this one more than I expected to. And hey, now I know where that weird "Who's your daddy" song comes from. Even though I didn't love EVERY track here, most of them were quality, so the album deserves some bonus points for that. Fave track: Care of Cell 44, the opener. Also enjoyed A Rose for Emily (emo before it was cool) and Time of the Season if you can get past the creepy lyrics.
Deceitful cover ahoy! This ain't no psychedelic headfuck, no tripping on the radical zephyrs of the Mother-Creator's minddrive. Of course, this album fits chummily into the late 60s hippy climate, and one can gesture towards the album's occasional suggestions of dreamscapes, but it's not a journey into the beyond. Rather, it's a genteel, mildly quizzical but bittersweet slab of baroque pop. Think Village Green Preservation Society instead of Tomorrow Never Knows. Actually, focus on that bittersweetness. Odessey and Oracle (the typo was an honest mistake by the cover artist, which the band tried to sell as deliberate). The album seems to have been dipped in the joyful pain of irrecoverable nostalgia. Fully the first side does not deviate from depicting the grief at the loss of potential, of the blueness at remembering when one could have been a contender. The first song, Care of Cell 44, has the convict wondering if his partner still loves him, A Rose for Emily concerns a woman who shall stay unloved her whole life, Maybe After He's Gone deals with a deluded suitor trying to persuade himself that she'll return to him, etcetry etcetry. And all that I found very effective. The songs themselves are exquisite, almost flimsy in their delicacy. But these multifaceted studies are great for a supine wallow. The second half turns more spritely and more positive, with some exception. Changes continues the melancholy of side 1, and Butcher's Tale (Western Front 1914) is The Zombies' pacifist anthem, of a fear-ridden WW1 Tommy cursing the priest who encouraged him to enlist (set to an ironic church organ). But apart from those, side two is a lot more smoochy and romantic, ending with Time of the Season, that tribal hippy makeout perennial. You can guess that the second side coheres a little less than the first, but not that it alienates the listener at all; indeed, there will be plenty who prefer the songs about your current girlfriend to the ones about your ex. I was hesitant about awarding this 5 stars, but why not? One can ferret out flaws if one wants, but who wants to undertake such a miserable activity? I guess these five stars are partly akin to a Grade II listing, but I enjoy focusing on Odessey And Oracle's considerable charms much more than its scarce peccancies.
Awesome album, up there with the best in terms of classic 60s albums. Time Of The Season the obvious standout track, but a lot of amazing stuff on here.

Pretty amazing, Really enjoyed it throughout the whole album (some of the later songs didn't compare to the first half imo). Not anything really bad to say other than on some of the songs the lyrics did end up feeling a bit repetitive and bland. A beautiful, soulful psychedelic pop album. Some really lovely songs, with my main issue being how it doesn't have much range.
old ass songs
So synonymous are The Zombies sound with that Haight Ashbury groovy expansive psychedelic sound of ‘68 you’d assume they were American - but no, these rockers came from the UK - Hertfordshire no less, which is the last place you’d expect to find a scene. Their songwriting, melodies and harmonies and overall moods and production are exemplary and this album is a real gem, evocative, enjoyable and engaging.

Really enjoying this, harmonious English chamber pop. Complex arrangements but still accessible to non musicians like me. Should have been more famous, funnily enough ‘time for the season’ sounds a bit like an afterthought.

This album is really interesting. The band split up before they were ever able to perform the album live which has to be a rarity for albums. Very late 60s psychedelic sounds, simple melodies but some complexity in the background. It reminds me of the Beatles.

Good album w some very classic tunes
A feel good listen! That sixties, happy pop is still a wonderful listening experience. Most songs made me smile, but the Zombies didn't restrict themselves on subject matter: "A Rose for Emily," a sort of gothic pop song, and "Butcher's Tale (Western Front 1914)," a song using only a harmonium with White's unsteady voice to depict a scene in World War I. Major props for including a protest song despite the album's generally pleasant tone. I was so reminded of the Beach Boys, especially on "Care of Cell 44"--it's so reminiscent of "Good Vibrations" from the year before. The subject matter, however, is different from the Beach Boys' number, but honestly I'm in love with this song. The topic, combined with the tone, made it stand out! "Time of the Seasons" is a great classic, but my goodness this album is rounded out nicely! An album that deserves its spot on this list but also on my personal album rotation.
I knew a couple of Zombies songs including the infamous Time of the Season from this album, but had never heard of this album. The occasional baroque pop song with psychedelic pop leanings found on 60s albums here and there are usually such easy, upbeat, and enjoyable listens for me. That said, this album does not dabble in the genre; it is absolutely immersed. It is an absolutely shining example of baroque pop with psychedelic pop leanings from start to finish. People have been listening to this genre of music for 60+ years. And yet, you have a moderately known band that has a fairly unknown album that is especially representative of that genre, and even after so long, the album has still managed to stay fairly unknown. To me, that makes it a perfect inclusion to this project. Anyone who knows and cares about bands of similar sound, such as The Beach Boys, The Kinks, or even The Beatles should be made aware of this album and should listen to it! While I wouldn't say that this album necessarily blew me away, I really just found it to be all-around pleasant and a great listen. I didn't find a single song to be a skip. It’s just simply a very well done album on every level.
Pleasant, can appreciate the songwriting. Not quite as amazing as all that and a lot of the sixties stylings grate. But half a dozen really good songs.

There isn't a bad track on this album. There are a couple of truly exquisitely good tracks on this album. Two thumbs freshly, even after more than fifty years.
This is an excellent example of ‘60s rock. Culminates with one of the decades finest songs and perhaps it’s best closing track.
SPLENDID music
Great album, classic all killer no filler
First of all, the name of the band: quite a juxtaposition from the sound, though perhaps not the lyrics, of their music. One thing I love about this album is how their lead singles are the first and last songs, arguably their most famous track being last, which means you have to sit through the whole album to get to it. I'm going to assume this was intentional, the band saying in 1968 that they weren't just making an album with a couple of singles and a bunch of filler tracks. There is no filler here. Every song is brilliant and fits in the overall whole of the album, a document dominated by the dual perennial themes of vivacious love and inevitable death. Leaves fall, and the summer crown of your roses wither. Also, opening your album with a seemingly innocent love song about “baby you’re coming home” type feelings but actually having it be a letter sent to a jailbird who’s about to get release from prison is a wonderful twist on the romantic song trope. Scratch the surface and you will reveal a darker message here: we’ll kiss and make up… wait. Why is the person in jail?

First time listening to this album, Iv heard a couple of Zombie songs before. Really enjoyed this, one of the better 60’s albums and I’d say very underrated compared to Sgt. Pepper, and Pet sounds, but maybe just isn’t quiet as good, though maybe my bias of knowing those records much better.

Liked this a lot more than I thought I would. Always assumed The Zombies were going to be like the Beach Boys but there wasn't much of that sun-drenched saccharine sound that turns me off. More like the Doors but I enjoyed this more. Probably could have been 2 songs shorter. Favorite track was Brief Candles.

This was my first time listening the zombie’s music and was a blast. They had everything: rhythm, groove, depth… The album flows smoothly and most of the songs has its own personality. Cannot complain at all!

Felt the Beatles impact, like a cross of Rubber Soul and Revolver... plus Beach Boys. Can't decide whether it's great and it'll get better with more listens - or whether it's an imitation and I'd rather listen to the albums it was influenced by given the choice, so middle of the road for now. Some stuff is great, some didn't quite hit the mark for me.

So much joy in one album, the psych tones are warm and edgy at the same time and it basically feels like an album made (and made to be enjoyed) on a lot of psychedelic drugs.

The oft-forgotten British Invasion band, The Zombies, reach their height with this album. The usage of stereo mixing, the short catchy rhythms, and vocal harmonies layer together for a truly great listening experience. The group had many worthwhile albums and tracks, but this is clearly their most polished and impactful.

It's not quite "the british pet sounds" but it is very fun, nicely written psych tinged pop (sometimes psych heavy pop). General vibe and atmosphere is nice, with a few detours which are great on their own but I don't know how well they fit into the album itself.

I only knew Time of The Season and This Will Be Our Year going in. This album has quite the reputation so I was expecting something great. What I got was something good but not what I'd consider great. There's absolutely nothing bad about any of this songs. They are all pretty enjoyable. It's just that they don't really hit any high points. The 2 songs I knew going in are easily the best on this album. I would definitely consider giving it another go sometime with tempered expectations.
60’s pop
One of the best pop albums of the 60s, certainly after the Beatles and the Beach Boys. Right up there with the Kinks best work for me. Fucking tragedy this band only made two albums.
I had forgotten how much I enjoy a lot of tracks on this album, used to listen to a lot of them while in college. Standout song for me is This Will Be Our Year - I hadn't heard it in a long time and it put a big nostalgic smile on my face. I think this is gonna be the first 5 star for me - I would do 4.5 if possible, but it definitely deserves more than just a 4. This definitely isn't everyone's style, so it's not something I'd recommend to just anyone. But if you can get into it, then it's a great listen.

Niet onaardig. Zou me minder opgevallen zijn als ik sommige nummers niet al had gekend in een cover-versie door sommige van mijn favoriete bands (The Posies, Foo Fighters). En Time of the Season is natuurlijk een prachtig nummer.

I'm actually pretty familiar with this album. I think it's really solid. I wish it came with a cheatsheet for what drugs I need to really enjoy it. I'm sure there is definitely a way to drop something and peak at the perfect time. Eitherway, I'm a fan.

Des jeux de voix à gogo pour cet album des Zombies. Comme je le pressentais, ces derniers l'ont enregistré dans le fameux Abbey Road studio, ce qui laisse donc supposer qu'ils écoutaient aux portes des Beatles et recopiaient ainsi bêtement chaque mélodie qui parvenait à leurs oreilles de zombies en décomposition.
La légende dit qu'après avoir entendu les enregistrement des Zombies dans le studio voisin à celui des Beatles, John Lennon rentra dans une colère noire, fustigeant ses camarades de groupe, déclarant notamment: "ça c'est de la musique, pas comme ta guitare de merde Paul!". La suite vous la connaissez, les Beatles se sépareront, et l'audimat générateurien commencera alors à les surcoter.

Very Beatles
I think I had only heard Time of the season from this album before, partly because it's their most popular song but also because it's sampled by Schoolboy Q in his song Rolling stone. I regret not listening to The Zombies earlier because honestly this is so fucking good, I love the vocals in particular. I'm torn between a 4 or 5 star rating for this album, but im gonna have to go for a strong 4.
