Reviews (page 11 of 13)

no i dont like this sound, short enough that its less annoying plus 2 ok songs. hung up on a dream, time of the season

1st listen: feels like a beatles album. On the first listen didn't excite or move me enough to pursue listening.

Le iba a dar un 2, porque era un poco rollo, pero resulta que son los de Time Of The Season.

Solid sixties with some great Hammond organ. 3.5 stars.

this didn't hit like the mama's and the papa's. it's good, but.. ehhh

Time of the Seaon alone places The Zombies in the pantheon of 60’s British psychedelic rock. The album basically didn’t exist until the song surprisingly became a hit two years after its release and the band had broken up (although now they play the oldies circuit and I believe still release material). It is one of the oddest albums in the classic rock canon. It plays like some twisted Kingston Trio album of songs The Beach Boys and Pink Floyd collaborated on and never released. It’s all Mellotron and harmonies and deeply deeply strange. But then again these guys wore capes to their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Prime British weirdness.

Awesome so far, could have been released today, sounds very fresh and new to me! Ooh, I've heard 'This Will Be Our Year' before, great song. And 'Time of the Season'!! I enjoyed that, would listen to that again. 3 / 5 stars.

It was alright, the last song is iconic and everyone’s definitely heard it before but the rest was just fine.

Good 60s psychedelic rock. I've only heard Time of the season before and didn't know that The Zombies made it.

I kept wondering if this group sang any songs I know … and was finally rewarded with Time of the Season.

It’s got one solid song. I find most of the album just average when judged by their contemporaries at the time.

takes some time to get going but it eventually gets there, couple boring songs but also a good few good ones to go with them, overall it is good but i have reservations

Groovy album. The beginning came in with a strong vibe, but I didn't enjoy the back half as much.

A decent, typical 60's rock record ending with the hit, "Time of the Season".

Didn’t realize who this band was until “Time of the season” which was a big hit for them. Thought they sounded a lot like the Beachboys.

Ik vind dit nou echt een herfstig album. Time of the Season was het enige nummer dat ik kende eigenlijk. Denk dat de rest ook wat minder makkelijk te luisteren is, maar het heeft zeker wat.

Better than expected. Nice organ solos, didn't stray into horrible hippy territory.

Not bad. It great. I don’t like psychedelic rock but the harmonies were nice. There were a few really nice moments.

edgier beach boys. sorry if thats reductive. best tracks: butchers tale, time of the season, brief candles

alot of this felt very poor mans beatles. very psych-pop heavy. i like changes adn of course time of the seasons, but otherwise its an okay album

Had they stayed together and built on what they did here they could have made some great music.

11 generic and acceptable 60s songs (2 stars) followed by the ridiculously good Time of the Season (4.5 stars). More Hammond Organ!

I knew one The Zombies song. It felt like this album tried to find its groove until then. Like a D&D nerdy version of the music coming out of England at the time. I’m good with it, but without the big hit it would fall flat for me.

Pure 1960s - the first track is joyous and the rest of the album is a snapshot of that late sixties sound. Time of the Season is the standout, timeless track that earns this album three stars+, but I would listen to it again.

Not bad, better than I expected, though quite mellow

Some fun sixties jams

Its not a record or a genre I would listen to regularly, I find this British psychedelic pop to be a little twee, and dare I say dated. However, I enjoyed the album, the musicianship and arrangements are excellent and whilst I wouldn't add this to my collection I appreciate the Zombies place in rock history.

- Love the artwork - Chill hippie vibes, not my normal swag but I enjoyed it - Good music for being outdoors - Time of the Season is goated

- More 60s rock, running out of things to say about it - Time of the Season is a banger tho

Mods meets psychedelia. Like it! And then Time of the season. What a great tune

Solid 60s, but not really my thing.

A nice little listen.

Sounds like The Beatles if their production cost was cut to 5% of what it normally is. Like many of these 60's albums, it's pleasant while it's on but doesn't leave a ton of impression once you're done with it. 5/10

I enjoyed this album. A refreshing difference with instrumentals compared to a lot of the recent vocal heavy tracks.

this was fine. a couple enjoyable songs. weaker 3

A couple of redeeming songs push it to a 3

Den funkar.

A really cool sound, very 60s. Sounds almost like a Sgt Pepper era Beatles. But no song really stands out.

Entertaining but without leaving a lasting impression

I can see why this became a cult classic, even though it was not successful on its release. If I ever wanted more psychedelia than a quick run through Lucy in the Sky, See Emily Play and other such faves, I’d reach for this. But will that ever happen?

This hits all the sweet sports for rock critic cult album; psychedelic chamber pop, a flop on release in the 1960s, band broke up due to record industry shenanigans, and ripe for rediscovery by rock archivists, and hailed as a forgotten masterpiece. See also: Skip Spence's Oar, Shuggie Otis' Inspiration Information, the Kinks' Village Green Preservation Society, Love's Forever Changes, the Beau Brummels' Traingle, the Electric Prunes' I Had Too Much to Dream Last Night, The Pretty Things' S.F. Sorrow, Nick Drake, Syd Barret, jeez you could probably name a dozen others.... It's _such_ a cliché., and there are a _bunch_ of them on this 1001 albums list. It's a jones that white boy rock critics just can't resist. It's the cult that sold a million Mojo magazines. And they don't sound that different, you know? That said, this album is a corker. Time of the Season is a dead set classic, and stills leaps out of the speakers as soon as it starts playing. Car of Cell 44 is my other favourite on this record. They could write a cracking tune, beautifully arranged and played, and Colin Blunstone's voice is really great. The album is recorded with that wonderful warm late 60s Abbey Rd sound. This is probably the best of the albums of this type that I have reviewed in this project. A few tracks are a little filler, and Butchers Tale (Western Front 1914) was a bizarre choice of a single. God bless Al Kooper for insisting that the record company release Time of the Season as a third single. Shame about the misspelled album title, though.

Best Song - Time of the Season

It's alright. Definitely listenable and you can understand why people hold the musicality of this group in high regard. That said, a bit "minor" for me.

It's ok. Not really into sixties pop. Time of the season is good though. Better for not having she's not there on it, can't stand that.

I wanted to give a 4 but need more than that one killer song to get me there.

ну них я не понял, звучит как психодел альб от битлов. такой ретро поп-рок зафлэнжеренный хз

Time of the Season is one of the best songs ever. Great sounds. The rest of the album is full of great little songs that I've never heard before. They do have kind of a Beach Boys vibe from time-to-time, but not really a copy-cat band. Standouts: Time of the Season Others: A Rose For Emily, Care of Cell 44, Beachwood Park, Brief Candles, I Want Her She Wants Me, This Will Be Our Year, Butcher's Tale

Overall a pretty underwhelming, inoffensive album. Most of the songs are pretty repetitive, and couple with the fact that they’re very short means they get lost and I forget about them pretty quickly. It does have a couple good moments where it shines i’ll give it that but it’s not really enough to save it and I don’t think I’ll be going back to it a lot.

Lots of harmonies, nothing really caught my attention.

Time of the Season and This Will Be Our Year are great. The rest is good.

la fin de l album (4 dernières) est solide . Connaissais déjà Time of the Season. bien aimé Butchers Tale

From my point of view, as a very young Gen X’er, I saw this album as the poster child for late 70’s psychedelic rock. I picture sexy people in colorful clothes dancing the night away in swinging London. This is likely a result of the Austin Powers movies being so popular when I was in my teens. The stand out track on this album isn’t the iconic “Time of the Season”, it is “Butchers Tale (Western Front 1914)”. Musically, it’s fine. The horrors of WWI told through the eyes of a butcher that was made to leave his home and fight for his country. The song ends in the haunting lyrics:
And I And I can't stop shaking My hands won't stop shaking My arms won't stop shaking My mind won't stop shaking I want to go home Please let me go home Go home Honestly, it is all a bit boring. I understand it’s importance. I respect it. I have had enough of it. 3-5 stars.

I liked a few of the songs a lot, but the rest was just okay. Mostly piano and vocal harmonies.

Very good, if not outstanding 60s keyboard choral stuff, closing with an absolute worldie

Over-rated. It's not a forgotten classic. But it's nice, Colin Blunstone has one of those unforgettable voices, and "Time of the Season" is almost as good as "Tell Her No.".

Obviously I knew this album because of Time of the Season's timelessness. I really enjoyed that song this time around but I also enjoyed this whole thing quite a bit. It has all of the qualities I enjoy about the Monkees but with a little more of a folksy edge which separated it from its contemporaries. Not mind blowing enough to leave specific impressions beyond "yeah I like that one" 3

3 I really thought The Zombies were more of a one-hit wonder group, so I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they actually have a solid output of 60s psychedelic rock sprinkled with Beach Boys-esque harmonies. There was something about that era of music production that has a bit of a haunting quality to it, but compared to artists like Jefferson Airplane and Donovan, it seems like The Zombies really leaned into the gothic aspect of that sound - Considering their name, maybe that’s the point. Despite very little of the actual subject matter being that dark, the general vibe is something that wouldn’t feel out of place at a Halloween party (I think Time of the Season was even used in The Conjuring?). That being said, if memory serves me correctly, the track A Rose for Emily is based on a spooky classical short story we read in high school English (I think Will actually showed me the song around the same time), so maybe there’s more than meets the eye here. Anyway, not the most amazing thing I’ve heard, but I dig the sound, and I think singer Colin Blunstone’s voice pairs nicely. Will keep this in mind around the spooky season. Favorite songs: Time of the Season, Care of Cell 44, A Rose For Emily, Beechwood Park Also, if you haven’t heard it, Foo Fighters have a solid cover of This Will Be Our Year

A lot of 60s pop with a piano. Some was pretty good.

This was really cool.

I had to check because the cover looks distinctly 60s/70s but I could have been convinced this was a throwback 90s/00s band, certainly the opener sounds like it's been recorded in a modern studio. As for the music itself, there were some nice moments but probably won't be revisiting.

они норм! надо проверить потом

More psychedelic music from the 60s.

Keys led songs Like to hear some different arrangements of a few of them A bit relentless … ba ba baaaaa

Ok but why wouldn’t I just listen to the Beatles tho

This album is mostly OK, but has its ups and downs. I like the tension between the lonesome bass and rhythm/lead guitars during the verses of Maybe After He’s Gone. The chorus of Brief Candles quite a bit while the verses are bleh. Beechwood Park and Changes can go. I like Friends Of Mine until they literally just name a bunch of people at the end of the song. It’s a good thing the producers were willing to use their own money to mix a stereo version after having spent the budget on the mono mix. They did a good job of creating enticement with different sounds in each ear and moving sounds from one ear to the other. They almost lost me before Time Of The Season, which is a classic hit. It barely pulls this album up to average.

A pretty average slab of likeable psychedelica

I liked the album as a whole, but not really any of the songs specifically.

Given that the last track is so so good, I was a bit disappointed with the rest of it. May need another listen.

Good but I was expecting more.

It sounds like a bunch of vicars took acid and made this album. Best Tracks: Care of Cell 44; This Will Be Our Year; Time of the Season

didn't dislike it but have no desire to relisten. some cool production, nice vibes, that's it.

Eh. It’s not really my jam. I prefer my psychedelic music to have more of an edge, and I’m not a huge fan of the 60s pop this samples extensively from. But it’s well-written and eminently listenable. I’ll probably never seek it out, but it’s a decent album.

Too musical sounding but good psychedelic songs

Decent.

this is really a 3.49 (don’t wanna round to a 4) very interesting cool album. i really like the brief candles song and butchers tale. and ofc time of the season bc that one eminem song

Rustige aangename muziek. Doet me soms aan de Beatles denken, lekker melodieus en meerstemmige zang. Dit album heeft echter niet de grote hits die ze hebben, dus wat dat betreft een sterretje minder. ***

This was an okay album.

A fine sunny psych pop record. It has that song you know on it. I enjoyed it enough, I spose.

Better than I expected from that coverart, 4 3

Time of the Season stands out like a sore thumb. Definitely a bright bright light on this album. The rest of clean, pleasant, sometimes whimsical, with quintessential harmonies. Nice, but not much else really memorable.

Some stand out classics and some songs I hadn't heard before that I enjoyed but overall the tracks were very similar, nit much variation.

Time of the season on toki yksi hienoimmista ikinä, muut valitettavasti aika unohdettavia.

Not upset

Was good not too spectacular

Great Moody Blues album!

This one is a sleeper and brings back memories of the 60s. While there are some vague similarities between the Zombies and The Beatles, the only real connection is that both bands recorded at Apple Studios. The big hit on this album was "Time of the Season," but others deserve mention, including "Care of Cell 44," "This Will Be Our Year," and "Butcher's Tale." Nice album.

Listened Before? N This album was trippy, man! Lots of stereo separation for the sake of itself, and lots of acid-washed lyrics and organs. I enjoyed it but some of the stuff was a bit over-the-top. Butcher's Tale, in particular, could have done with a good dose of subtlety. It comes off as a shock track with super violent and uncomfortable lyrics. I see what the objective was, but many, many bands did political discourse against war better. So, you go through this whole album, and then you hit the last track "Time of the Season" which is completely out of place as a pop standard.... it seemed like a cash-in or sell out. Anyway, its the best song on the record, so that's what I've added to my playlist this time. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Time of the Season

Interesting album and easy to listen to. Time of the season is a classic song and easily the best of the album. Cool story telling and lyrics.

Some tracks great, others let album down

Oke lekker rustig

Day 1: Odessey and Oracle - The Zombies - laid back Beatles/Simon & Garfunkel vibe - very happy nappy - cool harmonies - nice imagery - not my style but enjoyable - favorite: Time of the Season - 6.5/10

Time of the season! Saved the album.

Before listening, I mistook The Zombies for The Cranberries. I was disappointed to learn I wasn't about to listen to a whole Cranberries album.

It is a psychedelic rock album. It was alright. I was familiar with Time of the Season. The album was short.

i got a little excited when i saw zombies so i was a bit let down this wasn't the cranberries. its very inoffensive, which is the total opposite of SHACK in trousers.

• I’m not a fan of most 60’s music, and unfortunately this is not exception. • Most of the songs are very typical of the era, and mostly sound like Beatles rejects. • The final two songs are exceptions to this, and I actually enjoyed them quite a bit. • Friends of Mine grabbed me with the repeated pairs of names and Time of the Season is just a good song. • If it weren’t for these last two songs this would be a 2/5. Favourite song: Time of the Season

Ok but not great. Boring at moments. Feels dated.

Fun group of psychedelic pop. The big hit Time of the Season closes the set. I didn’t realize the Zombies had done This Will Be Our Year, which I think was covered by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs in the early 2000s.

It's alright, but a bit bland

Time of the season is a highlight Enjoyed this album more than I thought I would.

I'm a sucker for these kinds of dreamy, hippie, late-60s albums. This one has some solid tunes, and one obvious classic. It did all start to bleed together and become redundant. I like The Zombies a lot, but I think they play best in greatest hits.

Outside of the singles, most tracks weren't the most interesting. Not bad though

An okay psychedelic album from the 60s. Very Beatles esque but it was around the same time as Sgt. Peppers and even before the Beatles recorded at Abbey Road. This album saves its best song for last. It has a good combination of pop and rock mixed with the popular 60s style of psychedelic however I didn’t find the songs that exciting. It more so just for the mold. 6.2/10

#134 3/5 - Care of Cell 44 - A Rose For Emily - I Want Her She Wants Me - Time of the Season (***you know this***)

Quintessential 60's with the closer, but the combo of 60's britpop with broad harmonies and orchestration was unique. Still not my jam, but enjoyed.

Fun 60's rock that after a few songs just gets ok sounding. Time of the Season is a banger and the best song on the album

Like taking a trip back to the 60s.

Time of the Season znam zbog Eminema, sampleiro je refren, i to dost dobro. Inače album mi je laganica, dobar je.

Alright.

Pop Rock

Good 60's sound.

melodic 60s pleasantries, better than their spelling at least

Organ / synthesizer music was still very novel back then...

Not bad. But time of the season is the best song and a departure from the rest of the album

old ass songs

Ben King full blown copied “Time of the Season” 20 years later with Stand By Me. Anyone who thinks otherwise is blinded by hate.

Can kara see this

Meh it’s alright

Not my usual genre but I enjoyed this one.

This album is really interesting. The band split up before they were ever able to perform the album live which has to be a rarity for albums. Very late 60s psychedelic sounds, simple melodies but some complexity in the background. It reminds me of the Beatles.

Time of the Season is a classic - one of the best songs of the 1960s. The rest of the album is new to me. I listened several times today and think it is good and I can see how it can be on this list. 3/5

Liked the album

I like it but somehow it felt longer than it really is.

Pleasant, can appreciate the songwriting. Not quite as amazing as all that and a lot of the sixties stylings grate. But half a dozen really good songs.

Groovy

3/5 interesting but not after all

Kind of sounds like the songs I find most boring off of records from the era from Beach Boys, Kinks, Beatles, etc.

I'll give this another go someday but right now this album just didn't do much for me.

Bom demais. Terminando com a incrível Time of the Season.

Felt the Beatles impact, like a cross of Rubber Soul and Revolver... plus Beach Boys. Can't decide whether it's great and it'll get better with more listens - or whether it's an imitation and I'd rather listen to the albums it was influenced by given the choice, so middle of the road for now. Some stuff is great, some didn't quite hit the mark for me.

fine but not something i'll listen to

It's not quite "the british pet sounds" but it is very fun, nicely written psych tinged pop (sometimes psych heavy pop). General vibe and atmosphere is nice, with a few detours which are great on their own but I don't know how well they fit into the album itself.

Just how you’d expect a Zombies album to sound. Pop Psychedelic 60s.

"A Rose For Emily" ocigledan plagijat pesme "Za Ljiljanu" Tome Zdravkovića. Ostatak albuma inspirisan zvukom bitlsa i bič bojsa. Sve u svemu fin album mada ništa specijalno. Solidnih 7/10.

I only knew Time of The Season and This Will Be Our Year going in. This album has quite the reputation so I was expecting something great. What I got was something good but not what I'd consider great. There's absolutely nothing bad about any of this songs. They are all pretty enjoyable. It's just that they don't really hit any high points. The 2 songs I knew going in are easily the best on this album. I would definitely consider giving it another go sometime with tempered expectations.

60’s pop

Lowkey banger

Love the album art, and the music is good for 1960s pop - sort of a poor man’s Beach Boys. “Time of the Season” was the only song I was familiar with, none of the others were standouts. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hippy Trippy Vibes Sound of the season is iconic for the timeframe. Sounds like the era, not the best, not the worst.

En Time of the Season is natuurlijk een prachtig nummer.

I really like Time of the Season, but I think their best work is on other albums.

not really my thing, thought it was decent :)

Very Beatles

Pretty good. Only have heard time of the season

Mostly chill

It didn't grab for me

oh dear.

The last song on the album, "Time of the Season" was the best song on the album by far. It's pretty easy to get through though the previous songs were somewhat forgettable. 6/10.

Actually does sound like the Beach Boys first track Pretty Time of the Season is good

Contains some interesting tunes.

the songs towards the end got really weird, there was one song i cant remember what it’s called but it was just baaaad. i didn’t hate the beginning, it wasn’t anything too good or too bad.

I have never heard of these folks but this was some catchy shit from the mid 60's. Caught me off guard - real fun

Peace sign emoji

Right off the bat, listening to this reminds me of the Beetles, and to almost no surprise it was recorded at the Abbey Road Studios. The Zombies is a foray into the psychedelic rock of the mid to late 60s and has an airy lightness to it with the backing harmonies. Although there are darker toned themes such as prison, breakups, wallowing in ones sorrows, and yearning for a great love, it appears it's told through the haze of LSD (have you seen the album cover?). Best: Care of Cell 44; Butcher's Tale Worst: This will be our year

There is a lot to like here. It's a bit too sweet for me but some fun stuff. Really liked "Butchers Tale" and of course everybody's heard Time of the Season. Love the 60's era organ stuff. Also, bonus points for the great album art! Solid 3.

Good listen. Of course it ends with a banger. 3.4

Truly spectacular songwriting, just not really for me. I was worried this would be like the other 60's psych albums and be a bit of a messy compilation of sounds but it ended up being surprisingly well done. I wish I liked it more though.

Time of the season is classic

I read that the lead singer wanted to keep "Time of the Season" off the album and when he failed, refused to sing it, but eventually relented. It sounds like it could be from another album, or even another band. It's light and poppy, bass-heavy and modern, different than the moody, folkedelic songs on the rest of the album - songs about prisoner-boyfriends, World War 1 protest songs - they grow on you. 7/10

The Time of the season is pretty much a perfect pop song, beautiful vocals and instrumental solos. Just perfect. The remainder of the album though doesn't live up to the same standard. I hear lots of early Kinks, Beatles and Beach Boys, but most of it is pretty homogenous and nothing really stands out. But the Time of the Season, wow!

Fun album, not too much else of note

Cool, trippy tunes.

Understand how this album has gained new fans and is listed as an influential album. I'm discovering that I'm not that into Psychadelic Rock, but I like the covers.

Nice vocal harmonies

Decent album 3/5

beattles knockoff

Its OK. Sounds much like the Beatles

Of course I am familiar with the Zombies' most popular track ("Time of the Season"), which is on this album. The rest of the album was new to me. Musically the album is solid as a whole. The music had a psychodelic side, with elements that reminded me of the Beach Boys, the Mamas and the Papas, and even Belle and Sebastian. My favorite tracks were "Care of Cell 44", and "This Will Be Our Year". ¿Where all of the songs about girls?

Never heard of the Zombies before. Sounds a little like the Beatles.

coolish. little boring.

25th May 2021 Post interview with the Financial Times listen. Funny one of the songs is called This Will Be Our Year - feels like a sketch given 2020. I like this album but I think I prefer the darker stuff the Zombies did, like She's Not There and Can't Nobody Love You, but I did really like Care of Cell 44. God band, nice album, 3.5

listened for a while, but somehow i'm only on track #2? shuffle is off, repeat is off. also not sure if the interviews are part of the album or part of a special edition, but i can't pay close enough attention to get anything out of them. album in general isn't jiving with my mood today.

Released after they disbanded their swansong sounds 4 years too late. The high points still hold up Care of Cell 44, Brief Candles and Time of the Season. Sounds of psychedelia 60s England but some songs haven't held up well.

1960s psychedelia is not generally my bag, but I'm happy for any album to change my mind! Quite liked the sound on this, which ranges across folk, pop and rock, with hints of 1960s surf rock. I enjoyed the more esoteric and strange tracks, with some small echoes of Pink Floyd - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (1967). However, the standout highlights were actually the straight pop ones, like "This Will Be Our Year" - a great track. The song from the perspective of a WW1 soldier was unexpected but interesting. But also some throwaway tracks which haven't aged that well, like ""I Want Her, She Wants Me". Overall, this is a good example of a genre I'm not hugely into. 3.5, but it does deserve a place on the list, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's five-stars for other people who like the genre.

Mist wat karakter.

Couple of superb songs in This Will Be Our Year and Time Of The Season . Not sure I would revisit as an album though.

Sounds of the swinging sixties. Listen while driving through the Shropshire countryside in a Morris Oxford bullnose.

A pleasant surprise.

Some nice tunes and ideas - far better than expected

Very bright, Beatles esque tone, music is pop focused, but mixes in elements of psychedelics and rock

Time of the season heeft dit album gered voor mij, top nummer!

Shame the music doesn't have the same vibes like the cover of the album :P

Verry 60s vibe van de jaren 60.

Really high quality production and mixing. A little too "Beach Boys" for me. Would be a great soundtrack for any Hugh Grant movie.

60s pop pretty generic

A blast from the past. Sixties psychedelia. Enjoyable easy listening. ***

60s Pop. Enjoyable but not noteworthy.

Quite enjoyable

There is better versions of “this type of music” I don’t even know what genre this is? Old hippy shit? There is just no edge is there! Always singing about love and flowers and stuff like that. Atleast the beach boys sang about babes, I just feel like if you were in a bar speaking these lyrics to someone they would vomit in your face. And for that reason only 3 stars.

Enjoyed this more than I thought after some of the comments I'd heard before listening to it. Pretty easy to listen to, but some songs seemed to merge into each other. Very different sound than I was expecting from a band called The Zombies.

I really enjoyed how most of the songs told a story, I like it when people do that. I liked the one about waiting for a partner to come out of prison, it was so jolly😅. I also liked the one about having two friends that are in love, there was a celebration and selflessness which I found touching. I listened to it twice and got more out of it the second time. I enjoyed the happy, light feel, but because of this I found that afterwards I was craving something with some darkness.

Very evocative and almost a 60's parody. Grew on me at first and then grew tiresome.

Música de los setenta. Muy al estilo de Beatles o the beach boys. Me faltó escuchar

Time of the season y luego si eso lo demas

Good for a little bit, more of a picnic with weed mood in the sunshine, otherwise like cotton candy.

Sehr schön. Wenn White Album ne 4 ist, kann das aber nur ne 3 sein. A Rose for emily bester song

Reminds me of The Beatles. Decent

Good 60's rock album, some singular great tracks and a good overall feel of solid 60's rock.

This was a good listen, pleasing sounds and more of them were familiar than I expected.

Pretty good Great harmony and catchy riffs.

Worth revisiting! This album was totally in line with stuff I listened to ten years later. I’m assuming this influenced everyone from Wilco to... umm all those indie peeps later.

It's good, but I've heard better songs by them

It's fine. I don't get into 60s pop-rock stuff. It's like Beatles-lite for me. I'd rather just listen to the Beatles.

Overall the album is solid but nothing amazing. However it ended on the highest note possible - Time of the Season. This song by itself is 5/5 which makes rating the album difficult...

Time of the Season is so killer.

Not bad, but not too memorable. Nice and classic, good vibes, just nothing special.

started strong but got boring

Pretty good, very Beatles-esque. Had a few songs that I swore I must have heard before, but I'm not sure where that could have possibly been.

Just didn't love their sound. Kinda like wannabe Beatles for me.

A decent old pop album.

Was a little disappointed. Expected more. Some good tracks but not enough bangers

Doesn’t sound like a 60s album. Not bad

Decent generic 60s hippy dippy bullshit

Eh. Not bad but nothing earth shattering to me

OK, but IDK about "must hear"

Imogen: I like it as like soft late 60s music, it’s not that dissimilar from The Kinks, Small Faces etc., I don’t think it’s groundbreaking in any sense, but *Time of the Season* is a great song

Not bad at all, some good tracks

Je pense faut être dans le mood, par contre je la connaissais déjà mais dernier track incroyable

I’m so sorry but this felt endless? How is this only 35 minutes? Is it the day? Perhaps this is not meant for the rain. Love Time of the Season, of course.

Boring.

It feels criminal that ‘Time of the Season’ can be so iconic and the rest of this album can be so painfully mid. Obviously ‘This Will Be Our Year’ is good too, but there’s nothing this album gives you that you wouldn’t get from a greatest hits so ultimately you’re left disappointed. I certainly was.

This is, unsurprisingly, another of many psychedelic rock albums on this list. And, like the others, it is boring, whatever and this-and-that. I feel no type of way about this music. It’s white rice that has been coloured with Red 40.

not the sound i was expecting

Only listened to it once. Songs bleed into each other, but nice background music.

I was hoping to write a review about how this album is so much more than Time of the Season, I guess technically it is but that's the only interesting song on the album. The rest is generic 60s pop rock with piano and barber shop quarter vocals.

Their history is more interesting than this album. It's not bad, it's worth a listen for sure. It's just not going to be on repeat. It's like they wanted to be a couple of other bands so they almost mimicked them, kind of, and it just turns out kinda meh. The music itself is better than the lyrics. I enjoyed Hung up on a Dream when he wasn't singing more than when he was.

4/10 - nah another boring hippy album, could be mixed in with any of the other 60s/70s albums. 1 additional point for the last tune though, that's pretty good

Not a lot of notes. The last song is a fav, but the rest was only ok

For another psychedelic pop album I would have expected better and more original material. Disappointing 5/10

Some songs were threes. Most were twos.

Upbeat and fun. Solid and forgettable.

Yeah was okay nothing special in my opinion. Most of the songs feel pretty same. Not my kind of style of music.

60’s psychedelic rock

Ahhhh another album that has a good well known track and the others pale in comparison.

I've heard the last song before on tiktok

What a star-crossed record. No one entirely getting along, label dropped them, self-financed as a result, released without much support and even less success, classic single tucked away at the end of side 2, to eventually be soundtrack shorthand for a kind of cool or 60s psychedelia. Band breaks up. Even the title is misspelled! As much as I admire Cell 44 and Season, plus all of the craft and vocal arrangements, there’s a just precious, treacly enough quality that keeps it from being My Favorite Record of All Time like it is for so many folks.

The 60's... I was there at the end but still too young to know anything. This was ok, they had good songs but the presentation of them gets lost in the era.

I’m only 2 minutes in, but it’s amazing how much this sounds like the Beach Boys. Overall I was disappointed in this album. I like the Zombies, but this just didn’t really do it for me.

The play 11 sleepers in a row and then pull out Time of the Season?? Bro if you can write that why is the rest of the album lame as hell??

Fine but not great. Similar to Beatles but not as good

The Beatles b-sides, is that you???

Me cayeron simpaticos, no los conocia. Muy inspirados por la epoca

Twee and dull

One good song.

I didn't care for psychedelic music prior to this project, and for the most part I still don't. Time of the Season is a banger though.

Idk why but time of the season feels so out of place on this album. And the whole album made me feel very nervous and not relaxed

its fine

Typical 60-s pop-rock. Just not something I enjoy that much. 2/5

Can’t really tell the difference between this and white manna diner on tonnelle ave

All a bit twee, with the exception of Time of the Season, which is a classic. Wonder if A rose for Emily, has any connection to the much better and earlier See Emily Play (I much prefer Pink Floyd in this era)

Beatlesque, as nearly all British rock bands from this era are. The songs are okay. My favorite one was "Time of the Season", but it's still not great.

Hmmm… wasn’t really my thing. A lot of songs had great elements but didn’t grab me. I was idly listening rather than actively and it was all samey. Felt like I was listening to the Beatles (but not quite as good sorry).

The whole thing feels like what I assumed the Beatles were when I was a kid, and it's just not for me. Best I can say for it is that it sounded like a collection of old kids TV show intros. Underground Ernie maybe. It's well performed, well put together, and entirely not for me.

2/5 this was very POLARISING for me I actually really liked a few of the songs but I felt such a strong hatred for so many of them that I can't give it higher than a 2. Honestly it's the vocals, especially the choral vocals where they're all singing in unison. Eg. in "Brief Candles", and in "Changes", god I can't fucking stand it! I don't know why it makes me so angry but it did. I didn't appreciate the baroque elements much either. There are some bursts where all the guitars come in and the energy picks up, and these are my favourite moments. For example, in the choruses of "Care of Cell 44" and "Maybe After He's Gone". It reminds me of their song "She's Not There", which isn't on this album but it's a song I love and I think they're at their best when they sound similar to that, i.e. high tempo, rhythmic, layered, rock-and-roll. I think the best example of the combination of parts I love and parts I hate is the song "Brief Candles". There's no way I'm listening to this song again because the verses are so insufferable. But it's a shame because the choruses are actually really really good... Favourite songs - Care of Cell 44, This Will Be Our Year Songs I fucking hated - A Rose for Emily, Butcher's Tale, Changes

One great and familiar song otherwise forgettable, not my thing.

No me gustó

While it does have the great track Time of the Season, the rest unfortunately sounds pretty dated at this point

Didn’t mind it but it didn’t really do anything for me

didnt get to lisent to it

Aside from the song ‘time of the season’ I found this album quite forgettable. Time of the season starts and it’s the first song that grabbed me which is a shame because it’s the last song on the album.

No hace tanto mi estilo sinceramente

Too poppy sorry

Honestly thought it was mildly enjoyable to listen to throughout, but when I got to time of the season at the end it made me realize how much worse the rest of the album is than this one song. Idk if I would listen to any of them again other than that one. But it wasn't offensive.

Ooh, another late 60s album with similar sounds and instrumentation throughout with seemingly little experimentation - THIS is the one that I needed to listen to before I die, though!

Honestly, I don’t get the hype here. This all seems typically late Sixties bloat pop to me. Time of the Season apart, it seems forgettable to me. You could probably stick most of it on the soundtrack of a documentary about sixties London I guess, but as an album: meh

Ompahan turhanpäiväistä renkutusta taas.

Beechwood Park Hung Up On a Dream Friends of Mine

Not for me. I want her and friends of mine were better than the others.

An album of its time although a couple songs still hold up as standout.

You’d expect some edgy rock music from a band with a name like The Zombies. You’d be very wrong. Sounds like budget Beatles to me. Maybe with a more modern sound, the songwriting would shine, but it’s too dated for me to appreciate.

Time of the season is a good song but otherwise this was forgettable.

I already had the last song liked (from Hitster, I think), but I found the rest of the album kinda boring

Time of the season is the only known song on it

May be an issue of hearing this forward in time, but this sounds like C tier Beatles material. The story of the band is crazy but the music just isn't there.

Meh, couple good songs but otherwise pretty boring and another 60s album that sounds like every other 60s album

Of its time. Hard to judge it nearly 50 years later as a lot of what sounds tired now would have been fresh then.

Wasn't bad.

Except the final hit, this album is getting old. Debut album from 1965 is better.

Favourite Songs: Time Of The Season

This is like if I recreated a Beatles album from memory.

I was largely indifferent to this, it mostly just washed over me. Mostly just sing-song stuff that didn’t do much for me, until the last few songs which were a bit more different and interesting.
