Sehr gut

Excellent album. Beaucoup aimé "Get ready for love" et "O children", mais comme d'hab pour Nick Cave surtout de cette période, tout l'album est très solide

Роскошный тембр у Ника Кейва

Sweet. This is what I needed to wake myself up in the morning. Amazing production and musicianship all around here. Nick’s vocals are a stand out. The Lyre of Orpheus has great spoken word passages. It does kind of drag a tiny bit, but it was still very good. I think i prefer the second half over the first. Nice!

Damn this is great. Grungey, growly, choral... very cool.

Brilliant - covers a range of genres and sound profiles, while always sounding like a coherent piece. Hard to pick a best song - listen to it all the way through! I kind of wish I knew how good these guys are before, I feel I've missed out on them by only discovering them over this project.

This and Murder Ballads are exactly why I love Nick Cave

Such a difficult album to rate because it essentially is two albums in one. And while I admire the range of Cave displayed here - his shift from barking madman to sermoning priest - I really wished that The Lyre of Orpheus was a standalone record. Because while I think the second side of the album is among his best output, Abattoir Blues doesn't even begin to crack the top 5. Fuck it, 'O Children' is too good to not give this a 5/5.

It’s normally hard to defend a runtime of 80+ minutes. But this is essentially two albums in one. And even if it wasn’t… It’s Nick Cave, he can do what he wants, shut up. I first fell in love with the band around Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! and the opening record of this double album, Abattoir Blues, hits that exact vibe with a howling and mad Nick Cave accompanied by the bluesy and frenzied Bad Seeds on a never ending stream of perfect songs where “Get Ready For Love”, “Hiding All Away” and “There She Goes, My Beautiful World” stand out in particular. The second album, The Lyre of Orpheus, is a completely different record altogether. It’s more melodic and mellow with a Nick Cave in front that seems more aware of what The Bad Seeds would eventually become. In that regard, this double album seems to serve as a kind of portal leading from one era and into the next. I personally prefer the first half, but both albums are undoubtedly 5 star records. So there’s no actual consideration going into the final score.

classic album from the day it was released

Saturday evening/Classy bar mood

Nick Cave

2004. Exceptional blues/alt rock

This double album excellently displays the wide range of styles of the band and how skilled they are as musicians. Not a bad song on it. Best album I've heard in a long time.

Always thought an album of Nick would be too much, let alone a double. How wrong was I. Second listening was even better. Some of the funniest dark lyrics ever.

"riotous gospel rock" sounds about right

Oh my goodness, this album is a real delight.

So so good

Nick's built different.

Oh, what to say about Nick Cave? I love him when I'm in the right space and in small doses. This album is not a small dose, however, and it feels a bit long and morose. But there are so many good moments in it! There is no question that a whole lot of creativity and great musicianship went into this album. But you have to be in the mood for it. I'd give it a 4.5/5 but I'll round up because the skill is there.

"Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus" by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds is a mesmerizing double album that delves into the depths of love, loss, and redemption. With the raw intensity of 'Abattoir Blues' and the hauntingly beautiful 'The Lyre of Orpheus,' Cave's lyrical prowess shines. The band's musical range is astounding, from thunderous rock anthems to delicate ballads, all adorned with Cave's distinct baritone. This masterpiece showcases their ability to navigate diverse emotions and soundscapes. Nick Cave's storytelling is both poignant and visceral, making this album a profound journey through the human experience, leaving an indelible mark on the soul.

The outstanding creation of late period Bad Seeds. Just stands out from most other things of this decade.

One of my favorites.

For many folks this is one of the best album by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. This goes especially for then-not-fans who see them a bit critical - but usually they are blown away by this album. And there is a good reason for that: This album has one of the richest instrumentation that backs up Nick Cave. It is Gospel Rock on a grandiose scale that highlights the talents of all the musicians involved. The double album is therefore split by who drummed: Abatoir Blues by Sclavanous and The Lyre of Orpheus by Thomas Wydler. Both have their own distinct styles, the former a gentle giant and the latter a capacious cat. You could argue that Nick's lyrics are - while as always great - a bit repetitive here and there. He uses a lot of the same imagery, sometimes starting a song with the same setup ("Through the..."). But this would be nitpicking. He's a charismatic preacher as well as chronist of a world of love, thunder and God. Best songs: 'Hiding all away' on the first side, 'Breathless' on the second side.

One of his best. Exuberant, wild, fun.

very good, not his best has very strong songs (O Children, Lyre of Orpheus, Easy Money or There She Goes My Beautiful World) but also very boring ones (half of the first disc)

Fourth Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds album we've had. All three of the previous ones received 3 stars from me and in all of them I saw potential and interesting idea, but the pathos just wasn't convincing enough or the album didn't come together as a cohesive whole. This time, it seems these guys made true on their promises. Basically, these are two distinct albums. The first, I didn't quite know what to make of (the fact that it opens with the worst song of the albums doesn't help) but the second one I loved from the get-go. After that, I gave the first one another chance as well and enjoyed it a lot more during the second spin. It's pretty hard to describe the music accurately, but I really enjoyed it.

This is a great double album. Needs 2 or 3 listens though!

What a fantastic blues album. It shows a wonderful transition of how blues turns into rock very easily, and the influences that had previously made bands like Pink Floyd so good

Beautiful

An absolute banger. Great stuff - will listen again.

This album was amazing. Probably one of my favorites that I have heard on here, front to back was just so good. There were only like 2 or 3 songs I didn't really enjoy as much but were still pretty good. Will definitely be listening to this one again.

It sure is long, but I sure did enjoy it. And it’s Nick Cave… who am I to complain?

Very cool, not sure why this guy isn’t more famous. Lots going on, love the “full band” sound with the backup singers and the big ensemble

I mean abattoir blues was amazing not a bad track and really rocking 5/5. The lyre of orpheus isn’t as good to be honest, it’s got some good tracks but in general it’s a drop in quality 4/5. So the album as a whole is 4.5/5 so that means it’s a 5/5 but do remember abattoir blues does carry most of that.

pretentious over the top and melodramatic. 5 stars

Have never listened to this. I have discovered some downright brilliant songs from it. This is for sure to be a profound listen. I discovered 10 years ago that Nick Cave is one of my favorites. Holy yow, this is great!

Easy listen

17 songs recorded in 12 days. You'd think it might be a bit rough or unfinished, but this is a supremely polished effort. The album opens with pure fire and finishes with a singalong. Rhythm section is tight, there's some lovely bass playing that just ties everything down. The first side is blues based but not at all by-the-book standard blues, there's gospel and grunge and everything else mixed in. Side 2 is a far more mellow and beautiful set of songs. Masterpiece. I have this in my collection but had forgotten how good it is.

I've been wanting to get into Nick Cave for a while now, and now I've finally got an excuse. This album is just fantastic, but I will concede that the second disc drags a little bit, although for a double album the pacing is surprisingly good. A great entry point into a fascinating artist

Love Nick Cave.

This is an old friend. The first Nick Cave album I brought, not my entry, but when I properly started to get his work it took me a while, but fell in love with this. It's a warm and comfy place of dark discomforts.

Very hard decision but let me go for full marks because of the unbelievable variety and yet consistency of this album.

Erinomaista. Taidan omistaa bootleg-vinyylinä 4,5/5 pyöristynee ylös

Most of the Nick Cave songs I’ve heard were slow ballads and I was expecting the same. I think that’s why I never really clicked with his stuff. But this album (well, the first half) is full of bluesy rock, one of my favourite genres. As a proud 🇦🇺 I can’t believe I hadn’t heard this album.

It's a two part album but really well combined. Every song is a complete experience but all combined is even better, the only issue I could find is that the album is long, however it is great.

so this is the nick cave that deserves all the plaudits. i had formed the impression that grinderman was a complete volte face for nick and everything prior was poetry over drab music, but this has some balls. the downside is it's a bit long, but i'll let it off because i'm nice like that.

Nick Cave has consistently been one of the most brilliant artists of the last 40 years. Very few musicians, if any, are hitting creative high water marks like this so deep into their careers. An absolute masterpiece within a career of masterpieces.

My god the mood this man creates…

Sometimes bands that I’m not familiar with get a little old for an entire album all at once. But this was the opposite; the longer I listened the more I wanted to hear more. And that’s really incredible for a double album! As a matter of fact, this is really like two very different albums. The first is rock, and the second is somehow even more moody. They’re both great, but I’m partial to the second one by far.

I'd listened to a bit of Nick Cave before (Red Right Hand, Stagger Lee), but not a whole lot. I am a fan now. Really good album.

Nick cave is top 5 for me

251020 13:00 4.5

At 83 minutes, this double album didn't leave a lot of time for multiple listens but my response to my first listen is Wow! This is epic! I love the addition of the female backing vocals, which help provide a gospel church atmosphere. Again, it's a long album and I had so many thoughts and feelings that I can't recall many of the specifics. But overall I really enjoyed this.

After enduring The Birthday Party and Murder Songs, Nick Cave is not an artist I wanted to listen to again. A DOUBLE ALBUM to have to listen to this time is not welcome news. Turns out that I do not loathe this, in fact I think I love it! These songs rock with interesting lyrics and great backing vocals. Some of the love songs are surprisingly tender - hadn’t expected that. The two albums are distinct - I love the rock and roll first album and the gospel feel of the second. Really nice combination. I keep wanting to give this a 4 because of the traumas of past albums. But if I disregard the terrible taste left in my ears from the previous two Nick Cave albums this double album is a 5!

Own it, love it

Terrific, back to back hits

I’m a fan. Dark and brooding but somehow euphoric uplifting and catchy. I’m glad this project made me listen to this, I wouldn’t have done without being encouraged.

Pretty nice, I'll give more ears to Nick

My favourite Nick Cave album. Gorgeous song after gorgeous song. Beautiful melodies, tastefully simple near perfect arrangements including backing vocals. And of course Nick Cave's beautiful lyrics. 5 🌟

This is a joy to listen to, all the more because I have not heard much Nick Cave previously. Such a strong set of songs, instantly memorable, diverse, intelligent intriguing lyrics, superbly backed up by the music. I will definitely be buying some Nick Cave vinyl!

Fantastisch!

Very much a toe dipper in the world of Nick Cave, I like what I hear but not delved into the albums. So why not start with a double album, yeah. First track is surprisingly raucous, though I know he's got that side clearly, Birthday Party, Grinderman. And it's great. Few tracks in, loving the vibe. Oh my god, There She Goes my Beautiful World, how have I never heard this before, this is fuckin ace. Nature Boy I have heard and it's fabulous. This is so great. Second half sounds different but still has some bangers, Spell being the most obvious, just wonderful. So at the end of it, happily knew several tracks so I've not been totally missing out, but what a great, warm album, altogether. Going on the list.

One of my favourite albums of all time. 5/5

Never heard a Nick Cave album before but I enjoyed the fusion of raucous and menacing instrumental backing mixed with gospel tinged backing vocals. He's not the greatest singer but he knows his range and his gruff style suits the shady material on this dense, well produced album. Lyrics are forebodingly romantic. The music on the latter disc is a much more subtle, mellow affair. All in all, it's a solid double album of two sides and a very enjoyable record.

a big fan of Nick Cave this is one of my fave albums and probably the only successful double album I've encountered on this book/app thang so far. I've got it on cd one is pink the other yellow. Nick takes us to hell and back again, in what is quite an expansive album. What I love about Nick is his storytelling, so visceral and compelling. weirdly I sometimes don't think of it as music, but more poetry stories put to music, but that's wrong they are integral to both. and each song is a story, from the menancing fable and lyre of orpheus to the majestic beautiful world. The songs explore finite and nuanced worlds with humour, darkness and pathos in equal measure. The music acts as the driving force for these stories, weird instruments and driving guitars create a sound that simple yet complicated, discordant yet melodic. like Nick Cave its contradictions that makes it so wonderful.

Outstanding album, the lyrics are just sublime and Nick Cave and the band deliver them so powerfully. Finally, a double album that truly justifies it's existence.

Revisiting this, after 3 years since my first/last attempt. During the 1001 list my opinion of NC&TBS has felt a little hit and miss. This one is very much a hit! Full to the brim of dark storytelling.

Absolute beauty - I have a lovely special edition of this in a decorative sleeve

I sure enjoyed this album. I actually listened to it twice and paid more attention to the lyrics on the second listen. I feel like I went to church, attended a protest, had a reality check (especially with the song that had the frappuccino line). I'm glad to be reminded of Nick Cave because I really haven't listened to him much although I knew him from the theme song on Peaky Blinders. I'm definitely going to listen to the rest of his albums. I also really like the vocals with the choir.

Epic, so beautiful and dramatic. So many favess: There She Goes, My Beautiful World, Nature Bot, Abattoir Blues, and O Children

Nick Cave is a name I've heard a lot and I've never heard a single song. I also saw just last weekend, he lost his 2nd son which is very tragic. Going in I had no idea what to expect, but I was thinking it would be kind of an Indie/Alternative type album. He's more of a crooner, with a strong backing band in the Bad Seeds. The cacaphony of sound that comes up in quite a few songs, aggressive instrumentals behind a baritone voice, it all comes together really well. I really liked this, I didn't add anything to the playlist since it's a bit intense but I would definitely revisit and check more of his discography.

This time I am giving it five stars because I really like it, and not just because I respect the artist's work too much to take any stars from it. But I also truly respect the work to put this album together. What a blast.

Nick Cave continues to be the vampire bandleader we need, and not the vampire bandleader we deserve. This whole double album is stellar. I liked it more than Murder Ballads. Not every song is a classic, but if I gave MB a 4, then I guess this one's a 5. Nearly 500 albums in my rating system is all fucked up. But I'm happy to be here with my vampire friend.

Great upbeat background music that you suddenly find yourself dancing and singing to. Full sound with choir. Great album. High quality.

I really enjoyed this album

They didn't butcher it, you liar

L'album le plus sous-côté de Nick Cave Prefs: Cannibal's Hymn, There She Goes, My Beautiful World, Nature Boy, Abattoir Blues, The Lyre of Orpheus, Breathless, Supernaturally, O Children Moins pref: Fable of the Brown Ape

Loved it!

I wasn't impressed with the first song, but as I kept listening the album really grew on me. It's very tight and the lyrics are poetic. The performance is dramatic and very enjoyable. By the end of the album, I loved it.

One of the best albums ever made and the showcase of everything Nick Cave has to over.

An album of two halves. The first half is back-to-back bangers. The second more moody/reflective/Cave-like. Ends on a cracking high. The best of the Bad Seeds so far.

Abattoir Blues sits on The Lyre of Orpheus like a chair, but it's a very nice chair. An albums (?) that I'll be going back to.

saturn has all the best tunes.

Largely brilliant, veering from deranged gospel to sensitive ballads, all dripping with personality and menace. When it works it's amazing, just as with most double albums, no matter how good they are they tend to drag on and overstay their welcome. I'm left thinking it could have been one of the great single albums, but I'm not quite sure what should have been left out.

Loved it

I already listen to about Nick Cave, but I never got the hype on his work and never understood why he is so appreciated. From now on, this album made my mind and I got everything. It's so strong and powerful that I understood exactly all the hype around. I'll keep my radar open for Nick Cave now and I'll also recommend it to everyone. The second part of the album is a little bit repetitive and too much longer for a perfect record, but the first part compensates for any possible "error".

Nick Cave knows how to deliver, I’ve heard The Boatman’s Call, No More Shall We Part, and now this gem of an album it was a lot more upbeat than I expected, the other two were kinda slow and sweet all three of these albums are 10/10 tho I really love this guy, he has such a sweet sound, I can’t wait to hear more of his stuff

Great album. Abattoir Blues is slightly better part than The Lyre of Orpheus.

18th November 2021 Started on the way to meeting Harry in Covent Garden before seeing a show at the donmar (rubbish) finished on Saturday on the way to meet sav for golf in battersea Park. This is sumptuous. Dark, gothic, gospel, bluesy, unbelievable. Nick cave has an ability to stretch his music through time, it sounds like something that ancient Greeks would have listened to.

Powerful and sentimental. This has by far become my favorite Nick Cave project. The choir, the strings, Nicks singing, the perfect playing, everything works so well to creature this dramatical and emotional piece. Highy recommended!

Really great

Very raw. Like it.

The debate is whether to award this four or five stars. Yes, that requires explanation. Here, we have a double album, or perhaps more accurately two albums in one package. The first, Abattoir Blues, despite the Grand Guignol name, is a full-blooded rock 'n roll, bluesy stomp of a record. The first album also benefits from an uncommon quality in rock: it's got a sense of humour. The opener Get Ready For Love raucously juxtaposes Christian expression with rockstar strutting. Hiding All Away has the very chucklesome verse: You searched through all my poets From Sappho through to Auden I saw the book fall from your hands As you slowly died of boredom The worst fault you could say about the first album is that there are touches of filler (Nature Boy, the first single, didn't really raise my skirt), but that smacks of nitpicking. The second album, The Lyre of Orpheus, is a softer, more delicate work, with more acoustic numbers, but of equally high quality as the first. Whereas the first invigorates, the second beguiles. Indeed, the second's stock consists of sincere, sometimes plaintive, sometimes jaunty love songs (the video to Breathless has Nick Cave dancing with cartoon toy rabbits). And again, the nitpick is over the occasional track being somewhat fillersome. So what does this mean in the final summary? Are these albums to be assessed as two great albums in a twofer? Two great single works that don't really fuse together? A quintessential case of a double album missing true greatness by a cat's pube just out of its overlong nature? Fuck it, I'll be generous. Five stars it is. (And yes, the star system for rating anything is moronic, especially stars).

Rating: 9/10 Best songs: Get ready for love, Cannibal’s hymn, There she goes, my beautiful world, Carry me, O children

I was skeptic on Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, but after listening to this album I’m pleasantly surprised: there are some great songs (There she goes, Lyre of Orpheus, Hiding all Away, Carry me) and the general level of this album is very high. Happy that I took the time to listen to this album, although I dread Nick’s songwriting on Ghosteen.

Love it! This was actually my first Nick Cave & Bad Seeds record. This is a classic in my book. I forget how good this record is from time to time but it's so great from top to bottom. Glad it made the list.

A stunning album - I was bowled over. I was expecting a maudlin, moody, introspective album of ballads and whilst there is a bit of that on the second side, this is an energetic, toe tapping, bluesy record which sounds fantastic - like they are being chased by demons and have to get this music out fast! The gospel backing is wonderful and the band just sounds phenomenal jamming together. I think it’s a five star album. A classic.

Very good, it's now on my want-to-have-list.

Amazing production depth, with gospel tinged backing vocals and guitars at the fore, and drums quite in the background. Nick has an uncanny ability to change gears on the feel mid flight, like when that chorus kicks in on "There She Goes, My Beautiful World". AndRIP Conway - nice to hear you twinkling the ivories in there.

Hard to categorize. Old fashioned. It’s like gospel for disaffected atheists and agnostics. Nick Cave has amazing voice. Makes monotone sound interesting. GREAT lyrics. “I dunno what art is, but I know what I like. And I like this.”

pretty good I have to say, it's a bit hard to listen to but in a good way. It's like one of those parties that make you uncomfortable cause everyone is doing drugs and making out, but its also very very interesting, and everyone is open and accepting.

I had heard O’Children before, but damn Nick Cave is pretty awesome. 5/5

Not only is this the first time I got an artist twice, but in the same week too! And I'm a big Nick Cave fan so this is perfect. Another really great album

This rocks. He sounds like Richard Thompson on Supernaturally

Another artist I’d been meaning to check out for years. I was way more into this than I was expecting. I like how each “disc” has its own distinct feel.

Jakaż to jest uczta

Salvaje, apasionante. Mi entrada a Nick Cave.

Mis favoritas diría que son "Hiding All Away", "Abattoir Blues", "Let the Bells Ring" y "O Children". Me hace falta escucharlo más y con más atención para cachar más de las letras. 10/10

Amazing, instant favorite.

Great progress between the songs, loved this one!

Liked this way more than I anticipated. Too long tho.

Being a casual Nick Cave listener, taking the time to listen to more of his songs is a joy. And it's a really good album! The use of the choir being a common thread throughout makes the listening experience cohesive, as the messaging fluctuates between different levels of darkness.

Hits you like a frying pan to the face, full of vital energy - Abattoir Blues might get a five on its own terms but, while there’s still plenty of strong stuff on The Lyre of Orpheus, the more sedate pace after the urgency of what came before means it feels as though it tails off.

I’ve listened to many Nick Cave albums over the last 30 years and have always enjoyed them but he is so productive. I’ve listened to Murder Ballad’s, You’re Funeral… My Trial, and The Firstborn Is Dead the most. I never listed to this one until it popped up here and I loved it. The only issue I have with his music is that it’s so emotionally heavy that I’m rarely in the mood for it.

Fabulous album never heard before some classic nick cave themes and setting

This dude just fuckin gets it.

Great passion

Even if he's a bit of a knob these days this is still great

Great album, O Children stand out

A healthy middleground between the classic, messy, rocky Cave and the later, more gentle Cave, it lasts for a long time and it's generally very solid. It could be a little over-lengthy but its offerings are good and it serves well as a general example of Nick Cave's style

This has a song from my favorite scene in Harry Potter! Definitely gets extra points for that. Otherwise, I hadn't listened to this guy before and I really liked it! I would revisit this album even if O Childern wasn't on it.

Pretty good. I love me some NC&TBS, but their ‘80s & ‘90s albums are what I prefer and first got into. Well, those and the spinoff Grinderman albums. Those Grinderman albums are greater, man, than today’s selection TBH (Tabey buying ham).

Love Nick Cave, and love this iteration of the Bad Seeds with Warren Ellis. So yeah. Love this.

Nick Cave is one of those artists I know I should listen to more.

Wow. Thats what I was looking for!!! On the first 2 Nick Cave offerings I was left disappointed, commenting how much I wanted to like his work based on the odd track here and there that I love. Third time lucky, as this one is exceptional. The first album is in your face brilliant. Prefer him rocking out compared to the sometimes grating ballad crooning. The gospel style backing singers really make a huge difference too. The second album is solid, but not quite the heights of the first. I can’t quite justify a 5, as there are three tracks that I have deleted from my digital copy, but that leaves me with an hours worth of interesting material that will be listened to again I know for sure.

The first half is a tour de force of gospel goth rock. Absolutely stunning. I love his modern retelling of the Orpheus myth (I am a classicist after all). I really do need to spend some time listening to his lyrics. The second half of the album has a different feel to it more stripped back. It would have been better if it had been released as two single albums possibly, that makes it a 'skipper' rather than a full on perfect album.

This is a great album to introduce someone to this band.

This album has so much different music. It's a perfect trip through different genres.

The man can write a song. Brilliant story telling. Musically a generous. Great beats and rhythm.

It grows on you.

Really enjoyed this one. Unique and creative songwriting the whole way through - there’s a few songs I would skip on a re listen so it doesn’t quite get a five, but still very strong

I want to like Nick Cave so bad. I just never have. Gave it another college try.

(light 7/10) Pretty good! I mean, for an imperialist zionist that is. idk, ever since learning about Nick Cave, I can't really feel anything about his music outside of recognizing it's technically a well-written and well-produced album. idk.

My first Nick Cave album experience. Highly compelling. Some songs I want to revisit again and again and some that didn’t land as well. Overall, though, this is a wonderful album that I’m grateful to have discovered.

I have always enjoyed the music I've heard by Nick Cave, but I never have listened to a full album. I always fear that too much Nick Cave at once will be overwhelming. So naturally, my first experience with a full album is a double album. The two discs really feel like two completely different albums. If I'd have just listed to Abattoir Blues, this would be my 20th 5* album in this project. But, Lyre, while still good, was not as good of an album. Though it did have moments, especially the latter half.

Wanky album title. Probably wanky content. But it doesn’t stop the fun.

This gets Nick Cave back towards his punk roots. It has more energy than some of his more Leonard Cohenish albums. There She Goes My Beautiful World is a great track. "Abbatoir Blues" is very cool too, as is "Let the Bells Ring." I get some Tom Waits vibes from "The Lyre of Orpheus." A few forgettable tracks then "Easy Money" is a good one as is "Supernaturally." Really, there are a lot of great tracks here. There is some filler, and it probably could have been chopped down to an excellent 12 track single album. Then it would have been a full 5/5. As it stands, more like a 4.

Highlights: O Children, Cannibal’s Hymn, Hiding All The Way, There She Goes, My Beautiful World, Abattoir Blues, Let The Bells Ring, Breathless, Easy Money and Spell. 4.0

Koret på anden halvdel bliver lige corny nok, ellers kunne jeg rigtig godt lide den

This is a long album & there are a few tracks here that showcase Cave at his worst: pretentious & overwrought. The remainder, however, are excellent, full of raw and storied lyrics and rampaging across a wide range of styles, moods & influences.

GET READY FOR LOOOOOOOOVVVEEE

C'était très bon mais tellement long, je ne m'imagine pas reprendre le temps de l'écouter une 2e fois. 3.75 étoiles

This is an album that really highlights how flawed trying to rate an album a day truly is. Most albums require multiple listens to fully experience. A 1.5 hour album even more so. This one is especially dense and I can tell that a lot of its deeper meaning went over my head on a first listen. I know I will listen again in the future though and I could see it easily being a 5 star upon further listens. "O Children" is a certified banger.

Possibly Nick Cave’s only truly great album. Such a wild blend of all his best music – gospel rock, swooning piano ballads, rousing folk, dark murderous rock.

Heard it before, even heard some songs from it live! I do love Nick's music and even though I don't really understand why this album is on the list I'm still gonna give it a good rating 4/5

Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus wirkt wie ein guter Whisky: erst kräftig, dann langsam öffnend. Der erste Teil brennt dunkel und gospelnd, der zweite schimmert leiser und eleganter. Ein Doppelalbum, das Zeit braucht, um seine Tiefe freizugeben.

overall I liked it, don't know why.

Shocked that this was just about a 4.5 for me.

The choice of singles on this thing are baffling. Mellow songs like "Breathless" and "Nature Boy" do not do this album justice. Some of my favourite Cave cuts like "Hiding All The Way" and "Get Ready For Love" are from this record and feature a gospel choir bringing energy to Cave's already chaotic band. I usually like my Nick Cave to have a bit of a bite, which I feel like the second half of this double album lacks when compared to the excellent first part. The first half is a 4.5, whilst the more relaxed second half is a 3.5, so we will call this a 4. A great outing from Cave and his band, but there's atleast 4 other Bad Seeds records that I would easily put higher than this.

I mean for me this is the fifth or sixth best Nick Cave album but he’s released no bad albums and this is still a four or so but I guess I expect to see a lot more NCBS on this list although I doubt it. But in an isolated assessment, quite excellent album.

I don’t always love Nick Cave, but I do always find is music at minimum to be enjoyable. This album is no exception. Though the two albums making up this double-album have their differences, they both have the usual dives into sex and death that Nick Cave loves. Standouts for me are Get Ready for Love, There She Goes My Beautiful World, Breathless, and O Children.

310/1001 Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus Heard before? ✅ Revisit? ✅ Not a fan of double albums usually, but this is a great one.

Have I listened to this album before? How familiar am I with this album? No How do I feel about this artist? I have never listened but a lot of people with similar tastes to me like Nick Cave Pre-Listen Thoughts: I think I will like it Favorite track(s): Breathless, O Children Post-Listen Thoughts: I liked it quite a bit, looking forward to exploring this artist some more! Even though it was a double album I didn’t get bored with it, so that’s a bonus.

Like Billy Joel but like better

Epic, gothic, moody, electric.

I liked quite a lot of the songs, it's giving Leonard Cohen had a lovechild with Hozier's Greek mythology obsession. However, I don't think I'll soon return to this album, so not quite 5 stars.

My retrospective love of Nick continues.

I owned this and loved it when it came out but haven't listened to it for ages, so this was a nice reminder. It's great - witty and warmer and less ridiculously gothic than his earlier stuff. I'm realising I always like it when indie/alternative artists work with gospel choirs.

Loistavaa lyriikkaa ja sanomaa kuten aina Nick Cavelta

I've not heard much of his stuff, but the more I hear, the more I like. 3.75/5

Yeah, no, I don't understand the reviews rating this a 1 just because it's Nick Cave. It was great, really. Not perfect, but a good time.

I’ve had a couple of his albums pop up before this one and I did not care for them at all so when this one came up I was prepared for another similar experience. Not the case at all. I really liked this one especially the 2nd disc. Kinda makes me want to go back and listen to a previous album and see if

This Nick Cave double is more my thing than it used to be, a high 4 not quite consistent enough to be a 5 but hey that’s the double curse.

This was unlike any Nick Cave I have ever heard. Almost operatic in its complexity and story-telling scope. Not sure if there was an over-arching story here or not, but there were certainly stories within individual tracks. I was initially thinking a double-album of Nick would be a slog, but I was wrong. This is really artful and intriguing.

I’ve heard a few songs by these guys over the years, but I’ve never listened to a full album before. Wow! I am very impressed. I think I need to check out more albums! These are great songs with such interesting variety.

On the one hand, there are some beautiful, vibey songs here; on the other, he says "panties"

A fine album. I like the second more than the first.

There's always something battered and tender in Cave's work, I've noticed. It's usually hiding just under the skin of the foreboding. Nick Cave, especially pre-Skeleton Tree, and Especially Especially pre-Boatman's Call, has cultivated an artistic persona that feels guaranteed to have killed a man and more women. At its worst it comes across overly tryhard. More often it just plays with levels of discomfort, the barely constrained maniac character conducting some beautiful and damned choir. The reality is that that means for me, most of his work has been a couple listens to sink in. With technically two different albums of content, this will probably not be different. But I like it. Even songs where I was skeptical come into some sort of new movement that changes the whole thing. And then there is O Children... i'm not entirely sure why this is seen as one of the 1001, but it could be due to O Children alone. Right now it's on the cusp between a 3 and 4. Im gonna give it the benefit of the doubt.

Quite long but I thoight it to be very engaging and varied. Good production and musicianship. The vibe is also right!

The vibes on this album are way too good. 4.3/5

like a solid 3.5

I need more time with this one.

한편의 영화 혹은 그 이상

First Nick Cave album and it’s as good as I thought it’d be. I’ve always liked this dudes vibe but I’ve never listened to a full album before.

Get Ready for Love: Good opening, love the vibe. cannibal's Hymn: The beat is amazing so far this album is great. Hiding All Away: For some reason it gives off the black keys vibe. Messiah Ward: Ehhhhh not in a bad way. There She Goes, My Beautiful World: The progression in the song is amazing one thing that I really like about this song is the Chorus in the background. Really amazing. Nature Boy: Good road trip type vibe this song has, really good. Abattoir Blues: kinda plain. Still sounds good though. Let the Bells Ring: Good song, good lyrics. Fable of the Brown Ape: The instruments out of nowhere was really good. The Lyre of Orpheus: Not really my vibe Breathless: Good song, I think this song would be my go to in the album. Babe, You Turn Me On: Good story telling. Gives me the feeling of hope. Like that person makes you feel better. I don't really see it in any other way. Easy Money: One word (Beautiful) Supernaturally: Completely different from the last 3 songs. Does have a good vibe to it though. Spell: Really good Song, especially the lyrics in this. Kinda describes my current situation. Carry Me: Good beat and meaning in the song. O Children: Good ending for an album. Really beautiful. 10/10 would listen

možda najslabiji njegov (njihov? ovo je kao bend il neš) album koji sam preslušao, čak sam i razmišljao da dam trojku, no dopao mi se, kvragu. evo ti još jedna četvorka niče kejve

Contemplative and serious but also silly and fun. Solid listen.

Interesting

I loved the first album butt the second one not as much

rock n roll baby

this album rules. Has broadway vibes.

I have yet to fully plumb the depth of Nick Cave’s discography, but if I had to choose one of his albums for the top 1001, I don’t think it would be this one. As with many double LPs, it’s hard to avoid some tracks feeling like filler. A compilation of just the best tracks could have made a very solid regular LP. But the main reason I would wouldn’t select this album is that he has put out so much phenomenal stuff, especially the albums that came out after this list was made.

*2004. *This is a my first foray into Nick Cave, and this is NOT what I expected. *His voice is so beautiful, deep, and haunting - sounds just like Jim Morrison. *The first few songs are jarring - loud, weird, creepy lyrics... But lots of great music here once you get your footing. *It's a double album, so it takes a while to get through. The 2nd album is much chiller and softer, but still creepy and haunting. *I'm totally intrigued - I'll keep listening to this one. RATING - 8/10

Not a fan but a solid 4

This was good! I was always a bit sour on Nick Cave since, despite the man being the closest thing Australia has to a household-name musical god in the auteur-theory sense, I've found all his slower more serious stuff (see: The Boatman's Call) to be pretty lacklustre. So imagine my pleasant surprise when it turned out that he sounds great with a lot more punk-ish energy behind him. It's a rock album, sure, but these little throwback-Gospely bits with female backing and the really dense, wide sound give the tracks a big 'kick'. Then the second half of the two-part album. I think as long as Cave avoids doing that deep, warbling exaggerated voice thing he sounds great. He's clearly a good songwriter. I'm all for artists getting all navel gaze-y (see: The Smiths) but it doesn't suit Cave all that well. Fav Tracks: Hiding All away, There She Goes...

Gefällt mir recht gut!

A very surprising four-star performance, and I'll forgive the double album given that the two of them are remarkably different and complementary. The best Nick Cave I've ever heard.

As with most double albums this was way too long, but solid musicianship and enough interesting songs warranted 4-stars

intense. i feel the choir adds a meaningful and emotional background that the artist by itself do not convey. In some sense, its quite confusing the concept of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds by how little glimpses i've taken of his music and work. This is one of the most unexpected

Not my favourite but it has some great songs. But it would be better if it would just be one record made out of the best songs.

Ahora entendí, album doble y con narrativa. Bastante simpático y elaborado todo. Nota: 3.7

Soundtrack of my trip to Bath. Vibey, Groovey, and perfect to play on the Radio while dancing around my hotel room. (Hated Lyre of Orpheus though... too much mama)

Nick Cave is one of my favorite ever songwriters, but even I must admit that the list's Nick Cave picks are somewhat bizarre. Abattoir Blues / The Lyre Of Orpheus is one of the more defensible ones though, there are some fantastic highs here, and it has it's devotees. But I personally don't even think it's in the top five Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds albums. Although, I do think it has kind of been the archetype for all of Nick Cave's music after it. The gothic blues punk sound of his '80s and '90s output is largely tempered here. Nick Cave instead embraces orchestral arrangements, soulful currents, and the odd moment of muscular, minimalist rock. The evolution does kind of make sense if you spend enough time with his music, and the near Biblical intensity of his performances still give you the reminder that Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds sued to be much, much angrier. Regardless, there is still a certain kind of epic intensity to the best material here. Songs like Cannibal's Hymn, Hiding All Away, Fable Of The Brown Ape, The Lyre Of Orpheus, Supernaturally, Carry Me, and O Children are all *fantastic*. You'll find epic swells, understated rockers, pieces of high poetry, and moments of stunning beauty among the above songs. And outside of them, this still manages to be really consistent for a double album. Although, I don't know if it *really* benefits from it's length. Which becomes clear if you listen around Nick Cave's discography and hear albums that feel just as sprawling, yet manage to be much less bloated. Although, the experience of listening to this, combined with my stated bias, does a lot here. Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus still holds a place in Nick Cave's enormous discography as a fantastic statement.

It’s not his best work but it’s a solid three stars plus one extra star for „O Children“.

Great, moody, preferred the first disc with its heavier stuff

Some really good stuff, but started stronger than it finished. As always with these 15-20-track albums, it would have benefited from being shorter. A solid 4 nonetheless.

Absolutely loved this as a kid. Very strong start to the album, but it meanders to a bit of a stop. Some of the lyrics I enjoyed as a 15 year old don't resonate now.

More solid stuff from Mr Cave

Haven't listen to this in a while. Didn't like it previously, now like it much more. Love the choir and bass work on this. Still love Cave's voice. Best: Cannibal's Hymn, Hiding All Away, There She Goes, My Beautiful World, Breathless, Carry Me, O Children Worst: Nature Boy, Supernaturally

It took awhile to fully digest this one. Abattoir Blues "Get Ready for Love" really made me nervous that this was going to be an 82min sermon but luckily that was NOT the case. The rest of Side A was super solid, with clear standouts being "There She Goes, My Beautiful World" and "Hiding All Away" (the best song on the record, imo). "Abattoir Blues" and "Fable of the Brown Ape" were not that great. 3.8/5 The Lyre of Orpheus The second half was not as good as the first. The song "The Lyre of Orpheus" was annoying as hell. "Easy Money"(not a King Crimson cover, turns out), "Carry Me" and "O Children" were all great. 3.1/5 Together I score this a 3.47/5 -> 4/5. Side A was great enough to make up for side Bs shortcomings, and the closer on side B was great to make up for the crappy halfway closer on side A.

Pretty good. A bit long, but I like his voice and style

Min favvo-Cave

Kändes storslaget och varierat på ett härligt sätt!

This was a pretty solid album. I feel like I'd heard faintly of Nick Cave, but I'd never listened to him. Pretty fun listen though.

Nick Cave has such a specific voice, and unfortunately, I don't think it is my cup of tea. That being said, I really enjoyed this album. Nick's voice crooning vocals paired really well with the rock-y elements of the first half of the album. There She Goes, My Beautiful World was a star of the album for me - the composition of the song and the cacophony of instruments with his passionate vocals made it an incredible tune to listen to. The second half of the album was much more intimate. Fav Tracks: Cannibal's Hymn There She Goes, My Beautiful World Let the Bells Ring Breathless Supernaturally

The Train Ain't Even Left The Station 1001 Albums Generator 262 (4/3/2026) So, what we've got here is two separate albums. Not just two CD's, but as the title suggests, this "album" is really two albums released as one. The first is much more rock-oriented, while the second is more acoustic/singer-songwriter. Abattoir Blues is a damn near perfect album. The way that the intense alt rock songwriting blends with the gospel vocals (and by the way, that incredible drum tone) just works. It's firing on every front. This is best exemplified in Get Ready For Love, Hiding All Away, and There She Goes, My Beautiful World. The second album, The Lyre of Orpheus, is more singer-songwriter and acoustic-guitar-led. There are moments of true beauty here, like Easy Money and especially O Children, famously used in Harry Potter's seventh movie. I was surprised how moving that song is, and what a way to end this monster of an album. Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus is amazing. I find some songs in the second half to be a bit of a drag, but overall, this album is wonderful. 4.5/5, rounded down to a 4. Favs: Get Ready For Love There She Goes, My Beautiful World O Children Least Fav: The Lyre of Orpheus

Very good! Besides Murder Ballads it seems I am a Nick Cave fan. He's just such a good songwriter and poet. And his singing voice actually has grown on me over time.

Abattoir Blues: 5/5. Lyre of Orpheus: 4/5. Overall: 4.5/5 (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2.) This one is a double album in the sense that it is literally two albums. The first disc being “Abattoir Blues” and the second being “The Lyre of Orpheus.” Abattoir Blues sees Nick Cave and his band firing on all cylinders with some of the hardest hitting and loudest music of their career, which starts immediately with the pounding guitars and drums of the opener “get ready for love”. This first disc also contains my favorite Nick Cave song “There she goes my beautiful world”, which is an absolute banger of a song lyrically about Caves struggle to find artistic inspiration. The first disc of the album in general is just front-to-back greatness. Disc 2, The Lyre of Orpheus, tones things down a bit and is still a pretty great listen. I love the lumbering title track that is a strange and morbid rendition of the Greek myth. And the closer “O children” is a fantastic bow to wrap up the album with. Its only downside is that I personally don’t think it’s as good as the first disc. But overall, a fantastic album and my personal favorite from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

Notable Textzeile: Well, me, I'm lying here, with nothing in my ears Me, I'm lying here, with nothing in my ears Me, I'm lying here, for what seems years I'm just lying on my bed with nothing in my head Mit die stärksten Songs von Nick Cave auf mit dem überfrachtetsten Album of all time.

I like how divers this album was, and also this is my first time hearing of this ban, and I am sure it won't be the last. 4/5

this is really a tremendous double album. Abattoir Blues is pretty much perfect, and The Lure of Orpheus is nearly as good. getting exposure to music like this is why i signed up!!

This is hard because it’s basically 2 different albums and I like the first side a lot more. There’s still enough gems scattered throughout though to make this a worthwhile listen/experience. Likes: Get Ready for Love; Cannibal’s Hymn; Hiding All Away; There She Goes, My Beautiful World; Breathless; Supernaturally; Carry Me

It’s nearly perfect tbh

This was my first album listen from these artists and found them to have musical diversity. Interesting enough to explore earlier releases this being their 13th studio album.

This was more Nick Cave than I needed in one sitting but I did enjoy it nontheless.

Love Nick Cave though being a double album it was a lot to get through in one sitting! However very intriguing, challenging and enjoyable as he always is.

Drag my naked loneliness across a floor littered with broken glass why don'tcha. Mournful, hopeful, awed, frustrated. Damn dude, WTF did I just listen to? Extra points for the little explosion sound at the end of "Babe, You Turn Me On".

pretty interesting, I dont usually listen to this genre music.Quite sombre for me tbh so I will keep this ranking short. 7/10

I'm not sure if I'm cool enough to listen to this album

Not his best but still really good. Strong tracklist at the beginning.

This started out a bit odd, but actually turned into a good album. Maybe a 4?

Kovia biisejä

Very fun album! I enjoy the rich baritone of the vocals and the mix of energies from the various songs. Would listen to again.

Get Ready for Love - 4/5 Cannibal's Hymn - 4/5 Hiding All Away - 3.5/5 Messiah Ward - 4/5 There She Goes, My Beautiful World - 4.5/5 Nature Boy - 4/5 Abattoir Blues - 4/5 Let the Bells Ring - 4/5 Fable of the Brown Ape - 3.5/5 The Lyre of Orpheus - 3.5/5 Breathless - 4/5 Babe, You Turn Me On - 4/5 Easy Money - 4/5 Supernaturally - 4/5 Spell - 3.5/5 Carry Me - 3.5/5 O Children - 4/5 I was loathing this because A) I had never listened to a Nick Cave album before so I had no idea what I was going into and B) this was a double album so I was worried it would be a slog. I was fortunate to find out that Nick Cave is actually pretty good and this wasn't that much of a slog, although some of the later tracks on the second side seemed to blend in more than others. Pretty good introduction to this artist then. Overall: 4/5 Favorites: There She Goes, My Beautiful World

3.5⭐️/5 03.12.2026

I'd never listened to the full album before (though There She Goes, My Beautiful World was played at my wedding). Absolutely loved it, too many favourites to list.

This was great to listen to in one. Some real stand out tracks. Great album.

Enjoyed this more than I thought I would. 102 minutes didn't drag

Absolutely incredible, “Breathless” is often in or around the top 10 of my “All Time Favourite Songs of All Time” list.

This is played a lot in our house, a real favourite.

Ikke hans beste album, unødvendig å ha med på en slik liste.

Very nice

Two things amuse and irritate me in equal measure. The first is media's unending search for the next Dylan, that poetic educated, poorly capable singer to fawn over. The second is singing about religion, when religion has absolutely zero bearing on my life and should have none on yours. Cave is a much better singer than Dylan, and his lyrics are seemingly on par. This album is peppered with religious references but the addition of the gospel choir is a little too on the nose. We have a gargantuan album here with the two opening tracks each being at least a couple of minutes longer than they need to be. Each is good, but man they're really stretching my patience with each additional second over the four minute mark when nothing new is added. But aside from all of that, this is really good, ambitious stuff. If only it were shaved a tad.

This double album was amazing and I usually don’t go for double albums but the vibes stay up the whole listen. O children is by far my fav song worth the wait for.

Wow! New appreciation for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds!

p897. 2004. 4 stars. Not his best work, but still pretty damn fine. Point deducted for it being a double album, and the resulting filler.

this was good.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds has been on my list to get in to for a while and I feel embarrassed that it took this long. This album beautifully balances the idyllic with the desperate, space with overwhelm, and pure depravity with love. Nick Cave's arrangements are stunning. His voice is so unique but a true instrument. Huge fan of this album, and cannot wait to dive into more of this discography. Favorite track: There She Goes, My Beautiful World

I love this album and it had been too long since I'd listened to it from start to finish.

3.8 I mostly liked it. Better than the other album we heard of his?

Listened to this one a couple times. It got better with each spin.

BLARE THEM GUITARS BABY

Втянулся со второй половины, начали сниться локомотивы поездов и видеться ангелы под небом разделенного Берлина

Not a fan of Nick Cave, but this was a nice listen

Do you like Nick Cave? Answer was an easy “nope” before listening to this. This one hits.

I’ve heard a few albums by them but not this one and this was a great listen. You can probably put all of their albums on this list since whenever I hear one it always has such a deep vibe. It’s interesting how the first album rocks so heavy with such a creative and exciting sound then the second album tones things down but with a different take on heavy. Nick Cave should definitely be remembered as one of the greats of lyric writing, right up there with Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen.

I've complained a lot about artists with multiple albums here. For Nick Cave, I won't do that, for purely selfish reasons. I've been interested in Nick’s music for a while but clueless where to start. And Lo and behold, 5 albums to check out! Ghosteen was gorgeous but too long and too depressing to enjoy. This one hit the spot though. The first half is some of the most unique rock music I've heard in a long time. Kind of a punk/gospel mashup, which is oversimplifying and selling it short, but it's not wrong. It's a wild record, so much so that all three cats vacated the room as soon as it started. They did come back eventually, but I think they hated “Get Ready for Love”. Record two is much more conventional, more ballad driven. The title track drags on, but most of the other tracks were very good. Overall, a really enjoyable record. I think I finally get this guy

This double album is sublime, the story telling is rich, the greek mythology references are ample. I really enjoyed it, ‘Get Ready for Love’ has been on my music rotation for years now. The apocalyptic imagery in the lyrical content and instruments coupled with Cave’s delivery, made this a good album to brainstorm short stories too. ‘There she goes my beautiful world’ and ‘The Lyre of Orpheus’ are my other standout tracks. Ratings wise this is a 4/5- GEMV (26.02.2026)

This list has too much Nick Cave, hate to say it but it's true. That being said, this album is a force. The choir work adds a depth and balance. The album goes on for a long time but if you were listening to this fresh instead of an album everyday for like 800 days you'd perk up for sure. Great album, should be on the list, some of the other ones by them maybe less so.

This might end up being my highest rated Nick Cave album. As always with Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds I have no complaints with the instrumentation. This time it feels like his vocals are part of the music. I enjoyed the second disc more than the first. In fact this may have been a 5 if it was only disc two. The list doesn't need this many Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds albums, but this should be one of them.

basically from the first notes of get ready for love, i knew this album was going to fuck severely. whole lotta bangers on here favorite tracks: cannibal's hymn messiah ward there she goes, my beautiful world abattoir blues babe, you turn me on supernaturally carry me o children 4.5/5

Very good dual album.

If this was more condensed and some of the lyrics changed this would be an easy five.

Preach it Nick!

I've listened to this one before, but is my second listen overall. I've decided on listening to this album in a way where I'll listen to Abattoir Blues the night before I listen to The Lyre of Orpheus which would be in the morning after. As to properly enjoy the two sections of the album unlike the previous time where I was drained by the first tracks of The Lyre of Orpheus. Abattoir Blues: It starts off with an extremely explosive song ("Get Ready For Love") The inflection in Cave's voice in "Cannibals Hymn" is insanely good. Then the swaying beat into the blistering noise of "Hiding All Away" is amazing. "There She Goes, My Beautiful World" has a powerful chorus, the vocals (backing and lead) are really well down. "Nature Boy" has a really catchy chorus, I also quite like the upbeat piano playing. "Abattoir Blues" is a nice subdued refresher track. Another powerful chorus in "Let the Bells Ring," the album does a good job on anthemic-like choruses. "Fable of the Brown Ape" is definitely a good closer for the first half of the album. The Lyre of Orpheus: The lyrics in "The Lyre of Orpheus" are top-notch. "Babe You Turn Me On" is a really sweet song especially with it's whimsical melody. "Easy Money" nice slow number a la "Abattoir Blues" song from the previous section. The instrumentation in "Supernaturally" is wonderful. The backing vocals are quite lovely and the melody that plays after that (played by a violin?) is good. I really like the arrangement on "Carry Me" and I believe it's a really penultimate song. "O Children" is definitely the most suitable song to close this big album. Conclusion: I definitely like Abattoir Blues a lot more than The Lyre Of Orpheus, evident by me writing (or typing I suppose) a lot less for that section! The Abattoir Blues section had a lot more variety, rather than The Lyre Of Orpheus which tended to be more laid-back - which was fine by the way, it's not that I hate it - though most of the album has a similar vibe, it's just more apparent on the second half. Lots of feelings of tranquillity is felt on this album, which is a welcomed feeling. It's a solid album for sure, just how everything is layered, how all the parts compliment each other, all of it has a place and it's undeniably well thought-out. Highlight Song/s: "Cannibal's Hymn", "There She Goes, My Beautiful World", "Nature Boy" and "Breathless"

This was my first time ever listening to Nick Cave, and I'm really in awe. Sounds very delicate but like he used to be violent, and he's a master of dressing the right instruments and timbres for songs. Sounds like Michael Gira, but I suspect a much more musically inclined.

This is probably my favorite Nick Cave album I've listened to. I definitely liked the first of this double album a bit more. It's got some gospel rock/ motown vibes and has some good grooves. This is also, by far, the least obnoxious Nick has sounded to me. Get Ready for Love kicks the proverbial door open as an opening track, and then I like several songs, like Hiding All Away, There She Goes, My Beautiful World, Abattoir Blues, and Let the Bells Ring. The sdcond album is a bit more of a ballad and I was ready to move on as we crossed the hour mark. The Lyre of Orpheus is pretty cool though. The instrumentals are pretty layered through these albums and it felt like the more I listened, the deeper I could find nuances.

cut out like a fourth of the songs and it'd be a 5

Let the bells ring

Get Ready For Love, There She Goes, My Beautiful World, Nature Boy, Supernaturally - мои хайлайты.

oooh okay this is good and the two-part structure is intriguing There She Goes, My Beautiful World is my fav in Abattoir Blues The Lyre of Orpheus stays for homework, couldn't listen to it

im on season 3 of peaky blinders. ive kinda lost interest and Idk if I even had much interest initially, but theres a lot of nick cave & the bad seeds in the show, and I think it works really well. enjoyed this album.

Arthurrr

I like Nick Cave. I usually don’t care about vocals, but his voice is nice to me, for some reason. I liked the more lively first half quite a bit more, though. The second half wasn’t bad or anything, and even had its moments, but it wasn’t nearly as fun as the first one. The first half a lot of very catchy songs, but the second was a lot more laid back, which isn’t my thing, but Cave’s vocals were fantastic on both. Still a great album overall, but I would’ve preferred if the whole thing was like the first half.

Definitely more accessible than the previous bad seeds album, but definitely longer than it needed to be, although O Children was worth the wait.

Now that’s how you do a double album, uses the two halves to perfectly contrast each other to create a blend that feels both explosive and intimate at the same time

The full double album experience on this one. This is the most time I have spent with Nick Cave's music, and I can really see why he has such a cult following. These albums really felt like an experience and almost like the songs are written in character. Impressive, entertaining and exceptionally well done.

hella bangers , other than like 2 songs .. easy listen

A lot to unpack here, and I dont like moving.

Album Review 066 Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds (2004) Rating 4/5 I’ve always had one issue with this album; should it have been two single album releases rather than a double package or not? The two albums sit together well enough, one seemingly more aggressive in tone, the other softer and more reflective, but in full it’s a long listen at 80+ minutes. If I understand right though, what distinguishes the pair is they have a different drummer, and that’s about it. Some of my favourite Nick Cave songs are found here, but there is a bit of filler and the total of 17 could be slimmed down to 12 or 13 leaving a truly exceptional work that would still have balance and flow over two sides instead of four. Anyway, a strong songs with a bit of gospel choir backing here and there. My favourite work that Nick Cave done has done with the Bad Seeds.

I hated this until I loved it. Idk. Weird experience but it actually does feel like an album I needed to hear before I die

BEST SONGS: - Messiah Ward - Abattoir Blues - Fable of the Brown Ape

Awesome album - one of the best by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. It slows down a bit on a few tracks, but there’s no filler here. The final track, "Oh Children," is easily one of the best in his entire catalog.

Solid shit

some of this is really good seeing them this summer 🤩

As always, I'm up and down on Nick. Sometime with the lyrics I'm like, "What the fuck?", but then at other times - I'm loving the music and it all comes together just great. For a double LP, this doesn't feel as long as it could. In the end, I was into it - probably more into the Lyre than the Blues.

As Ged said, he is good fun to listen to

Hari Pota <3

cool album

A fairly good album. Never listened to them before. Liked the mix of funky, rock and anthems tunes.

Cave has never really been on my radar so this was a good, if overdue, opportunity to expand my musical education - and this is pretty solid. Now need check the rest of his catalogue to see where it fits.

I liked this more than I expected to.
