5-Star Albums (289)

Really cool album where I recognised samples that lots of other bands used in their music, from Snoop Dogg to The Prodigy.
Some of the wittiest lyrics I've ever heard. A great live album that makes me wish I was there in person.
First half is packed with classics while the second half gets a bit more experimental.
Good modern pop but the same songs in different languages was annoying.

Good music that's certainly been influential to many genres. But still niche and his nasal voice is an acquired taste.
Can't dispute his lyrical genius but his voice is an acquired taste. And the music has not aged well - it sounds like something you'd here in a 80's arcade game.
It's a really nice mix of genres and the singer has a great voice. As far as folk rock goes, it doesn't get much better than this band. This has a couple of outstanding songs but the rest are fairly average and unmemorable. A high 3 from me.
A couple of classics on here and some riffs and lyrics that influenced some huge songs (Master of puppets, Mr. Brightside), but most of the album is not that appealing to me in any way.
Some classic anthems on this one, in particular the second half of the album is flawless. All round brilliant musicianship and lyrics and nearly a perfect album - I have no idea how Andy Summer convinced them to add Mother to the album, but it makes me appreciate all the other songs more.
Not an enjoyable experience. High pitch shrieking vocals over very repetitive, camp, bad pop "rock".
Beautiful, dream like music that still seems futuristic even though it's over 20 years old. AI couldn't write it better. Bjork really is one of a kind and this is album has some of her best work.
Makes simple folk sound so good.
Original, unique, artist creating some of here best work in early stages of her solo career. 30 years old now and still sounds so good.
Spacey, emotional, unique music but definitely not for everyone. Great for what is though.
Epic pop album
Mostly fun, folky, pop music with a real classic in Come on Eileen and a decent cover of Van Morrison.
What a voice!
Pretty okay rock album with an anthem in No more Mr. Nice Guy. Got Beatle-esque with Mary-Ann near the end before wrapping up with a bit of necrophilia.
Great debut album
Good debut, especially for it being in '89.
Very influential album that has some moments where everything clicks. Mostly rough around the edges and not the easiest listen.
A couple of anthems and some nice songwriting. Great vocals but a pretty average album in general.
Funky!
Great vocals and a couple of classics. Very original style especially at the time and the production has aged very well.
Accesible jazz classic.
Soulful, nice, lounge jazz pop.
A classic.
Okay country folk with some good lyrics.
This double album excellently displays the wide range of styles of the band and how skilled they are as musicians. Not a bad song on it. Best album I've heard in a long time.
A great country musician and songwriter. Not her best work.
Classic ska reggae.
Powerful, beautiful, dark, artistic, one of kind.
Great voice and groovy tunes.
Simple, catchy, Brit indie-pop. Like a poor man's Paul Simon.
Some of the wittiest lyrics I've ever heard. A great live album that makes me wish I was there in person.
Okay pop
Not really sure what this album is trying to be. Not bad, just lost.
Great collection of songs and a duet with Thom York being one of the many highlights.
Cool afro music but very short.
Nice album but nothing special.
Very good metal.
Meh punkish stuff.
Surprisingly solid rock album.
Classic.
Very unique voice on some easy listening jazz pop.
Jazzy!
A classic but the concept style makes it hard to listen to on repeat.
Influential album with some nice hooks.
Not a bad song on this album and has aged so well. Incredible to think that this was released in '83 - around the same time as bands like The Cure and The Police were peaking.
Great album with every song having its own uniqueness.
Prince doing Prince stuff. Nowhere near his best work.
Great folk singer with a real distinctive style on her best work.
Some classic rock anthems along modern takes on old school blues tunes. Doesn't get much better for Dad rock.
Really starting to find their sound here.
Production hasn't aged well but still a fun, enjoyable album.
A classic for the genre.
Dark, melodic, and intriguing.
I get the Beatles comparisons. Pretty good album with some classics on there.
Not his best but still a classic.
Good musicians but pretty meh.
What can I say that hasn't been said. Best album ever!
As good as that type of music gets.
Classic Dad rock!
Spacey shite a teenager could probably improvise on a Casio.
I'm sure it was a classic in its day but it hasn't aged the best.
Prime Bowie and one of the best concept albums ever made.
Not sure what that was all about but won't be listening to that again. Guitar sound like the amp is fucked in half the songs.
They really peaked on this album.
Way ahead of its time, singing about dark subjects like mental health set to beautiful acoustic guitar.influenced so many artists, especially Nick Drake.
Jazzy!
Some say the bass is still walking.
Dude was a depressed genius.
Hail satan!
First half is like being at the dentist but the second half gets it shit together and I can see how this was a major influence on punk.
Very good blues, folk, and psychedelic rock with a couple of anthems that define the genre.
Oh my god, it's the funky shit!
English is clearly not their first language because the lyrics are cringe.
Cultural significance 5
By far their worst. All average tracks aside from the opener.
Amazing lyricist but his voice is so nasal. Also, the instruments sound out of tune in some of the songs and I couldn't listen to all of the final song because the harmonica is so high pitch and annoying.
Classic.
Jazzy!
Meh.
Good music of genres in there and some catchy hooks but overall pretty average.
What a set of lungs!
Really cool album.
Great record for a one man band.
Poppy!
She sounds like the sort of woman that would chop your dick off in your sleep for looking at another woman. But the music is very unique.
Interesting concept.
Classical!
Mix of all sorts of genres with lots of very good covers in there.
Woods was a beast!
Good opener but the rest was meh.
Sounds like teenager, garage band, self indulgent shite.
Easy listening pop stuff.
Dat some funky sheet!
Quirky classic.
Still finding their sound but a really good debut stoner-rock album.
First half is packed with classics while the second half gets a bit more experimental.
No no no
That horny little man wrote some good tunes.
Amazing voice.
All I can hear is their Christmas song.
Masterpiece.
Okay
Finding their sound here but a good album.
Pretty decent stoner rock.
Decent singer performing some old western songs he didn't write.
OG
A classic that hasn't aged well because of so many poor copycats over the year.
Classic album from one of the progenitors of punk rock.
Very good harmonies on some vintage folk songs.
Nice, chill modern folk.
Old school legend. Him singing about high school has an added meaning when you know about this guy's love life.
Good voice but just a bunch of pop shlop.
Good folk and psychedelia album.
Good indie.
Okay old school rock album. Annoying voice but good musicianship.
Good voice.
Great lyricist and songwriter but can't sing for shit.
Jazzy samba!
Influential for that genre but that genre kind of sucks to me.
Fusion of multiple styles with great vocals and deep lyrics. One of the best albums I've heard on this list so far.
Love a good 25 minute tune. Exorcist flashbacks.
Touches of great songwriting here but mostly a collection of short, pop, radio friendly singles.
Very unique artist and album.
Good first album from the ultimate punk band.
Sounds like Bowie covers. And what the hell was the idea of the last song being so long. Annoyed the shit out of me.
Pretty average.
He really gets emotion across in his vocals.
Super
Must be before he found out about cocaine.
Not his best but enjoyable soul-pop.
Knocked me off to sleep half way through. This is one of the many shite bands that released this soulless crap during a very bad phase for indie.
The ultimate in Dad rock. Has become antiquated over time but the songwriting, musicianship, and vocals are unparalleled to this day.
Classic heavy rock
What the hell was the point of that?
Hasn't aged well but I dig it as an early punk album.
Top tier metal. Walk is a classic.
Where is the Parental Advisory warning? I feel aurally raped by this potty-mouthed man-child with rape and scat kinks.
Excellent sophomore album full of classics
Classic early precursor to grunge packed full off catchy pop-punk tracks.
Good sloppy pop-rock.
The singers voice is really annoying, even for a punk band.
Great Cuban music group that were recorded for a documentary.
Trippy double album
Pretty boring.
Pretty boring and nothing stands out. Nowhere near their best works.
Not their best album but a couple of their best songs on here. All round a solid album.
Incredibly unique album with some great songwriting for the ages.
As original as a live album gets. But at the end of the days it's an album of mostly country covers.
Ultimate 80s rock pop
Classic Dad rock.
Revolutionary at the time I'm sure, but just sound like the same mediocre song over and over.
Hasn't aged well and he definitely copied from the Beatles on at least one of the tracks, but some classic pop songs on this. All round a staple of 80s pop.
Original for indie pop but just not my thing
Some classic in there amidst some average pop tracks. Very enjoyable insight into one of the 80s finest bands.
Amazing album.
Very original road trip inspired lyrics over jazz influenced pop, with some craZy ass bass lines from Jacob. Yeah, this deserves a few listens for it to really be appreciated.
Mainly a 4 for the drumming being so good.
80s as an album can be. Very popular catchy melodies and high quality musically.
Weird little dude writes some very nice melodies with a wide range of instruments and effects.
Classic.
Sounded like Beyonce but the music was better.
A classic.
As good as this kind of electronic pop music gets. At least 3 legendary songs that have been played in every club night for a couple of decades now, such as Rendez-vu, Red Alert, and Bingo Bango.
A lot of influence from other bands like the Beatles and the Beach Boys. Not bad all round.
Some Motown classics on here, a favourite being Papa Was a Rolling Stone.
Great lyrics as always but nasal vocals and repetitive folk-blues aren't to everyone's taste, including me.
Great musicianship and unique music.
The OGs.
Shoegaze is not my jam, especially when the singer is just making noises as opposed to words.
Jazzy!
One of modern punk's finest albums of the 90s.
Far from their best album.
Meh 60s stuff.
How the hell did this make the list?
The Killing Moon is a classic but the rest is pretty average.
As good as reggae gets. Some of his darker material on this album which in my opinion is his best.
Great blues rock, especially the guitar from Clapton. Some great covers in here including Little Wing by Hendrix.
Lots of covers in there but generally enjoyable.
Can all sound a bit repetitive but it still rocks!
First modern album on here I've found original and really liked.
First song really stand out on what's an otherwise okay album of romantic songs.
Sounds like depression.
Sounds very 80s but was released in the late 70s. This debut album was very influential and has some great anthems on it.
Classic old school country-rock.
A poor man's Kanye.
Original and catchy country rock
Melancholic slow country pop.
Jungle is massive!
Average 80s synth soft rock. Nothing stood out. Talented dude to play all the instruments himself so I that as a reason for getting on the list. But wouldn't listen to it again.
Nice and chilled-out album, better than most of their prior stuff.
Meh
Some dark lyrics but this is the best work from a rap genius.
Da fuck. That song about the serial killer had the completely wrong vibe and should be stricken from the annals of music.
A difficult listen.
One of the most original sounds and albums of that decade. Excellent simple indie pop.
Good modern pop but the same songs in different languages was annoying.
Enjoyable album with probably the most important rap song of all time I. The Message. On another note, I don't know why Spotify gives this album as released in 2010 and has not record of it being released in the 80s. Spotify sucks .
Classic from the Reverend.
Late in career album that's fairly average.
Interesting album that was very original at the time a highly influential to many genres to follow.
Really cool album where I recognised samples that lots of other bands used in their music, from Snoop Dogg to The Prodigy.
Nice tunes but nowhere near his best.
Solid pop album.
Classic old metal.
Really found their unique sound here.
Great folk album
The king of reggae.
Very 90s.
Some very good pop songs on here and you can hear the influence of the Beatles on their style, especially the harmonies. This style was replicated throughout the entire decade of the 90s. But there are a few very average songs, so get a high 3 from me.
I don't like Jagger's voice.
Meh
A country classic.
Probably very original for it's time but hasn't age well.
A few anthems on there.
A true classic.
He's a poet but man I dislike his voice.
Doesn't get more 80s than this.
Interesting concept but not easy listening.
A couple of anthems and the last couple of song are quality psychedelic rock type tunes.
Basically very good poetry put to repetitive music with a weak singer. But somehow it still works well as music.
I don't like Coldplay's whole vibe and the lead singer is a knob but this is a very, very good pop album.
Is this what it sounds like inside the mind of a paedophile? What the fuck is up with that album cover with a sleeping girl in her underwear? That's beyond trying to be edgy and just sick.
