I wanted so badly to clarify my rating on this album that I'm leaving a note, which is not something I have usually done. Janet sounds great, and I thought the concept of addressing social issues through "We Are the World" style songs was pretty decent until she completely loses the plot halfway through the album and devolves into generic tenderhearted romantic mush. Fine on a different record, but playing the wide-eyed virgin really does a poor job of selling the idea that you are concerned with empowerment, liberation, and all the other social crises you mentioned five tracks ago. That being said the production on this album is great - I don't care what any of the other reviewers say. Everything snaps, pops, and grooves just the way you want an 80's album to, and if this was 100% instrumental it would get at least 4 stars from me.

Absolutely abhorrent lyrics. Depressing. Sad and disgusting... (mostly.) That being said, 5-10 greatest beats of all time and no bad tracks. So... four stars. Be honest.

Ghosteen by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
May 09 2025

This 2019 album is trying very hard to do for Nick Cave what Blackstar did for David Bowie and what, well, every Leonard Cohen album did for Leonard Cohen - but it's not the same when this sort of change happens overnight. It's gentle and ponderous, but can it be trusted? And I can't forgive him for making me listen to Murder Ballads, so this gets a suspicious 3.

Highway to Hell by AC/DC
May 21 2025

You know how sometimes you hear a great song and think, wow, I sure hope the rest of the album is just like this! but it's usually not, because the band wants to explore styles or have a bit of variety. Not so with Highway to Hell - AC/DC knows what they're about and that's exactly what they're serving up for 41 minutes straight!

The White Album by Beatles
Jul 29 2025

my least favorite beatles album, I think the track listing is too long, haphazardly arranged, and gives little thought to cohesiveness. that being said, it is *the fucking beatles* -- some of these songs are absolutely their greatest and most influential tracks ever (while my guitar..., happiness..., yer blues, helter skelter, yes even revolution 9!) and i would rather listen to my least favorite beatles album any day than some of the other wacky stuff on this list! (no hate... ok, a little hate, maybe).

xx by The xx
Aug 12 2025

Made me extremely nostalgic for being on Pandora radio at the beginning of the 2010s and I would use one of my precious skips every time a song by the xx came on. In retrospect, this album isn't terrible. It's very 2009. I can't say that I hate the songs as much as I used to, but I will probably continue to skip them in the future... for old times' sake.

Best Radiohead by a mile out of the 3 (so far?) that have been on this list. I'm being petty and docking a star because they simply do not need to have three albums listed. Very few bands are *that good!*
