Such a soothing voice! Alas, this album doesn't reach half the heights I'm sort of expecting from Gilberto after listening to Girl from Ipanema so many times...

Astrud sait pertinemment qu'elle raconte n'importe quoi et se réjouit d'imaginer ses auditeurs européens claquer des doigts sur le rythme de ses mélodieux baragouinages. Bien joué Astrud.

La grande force de cet album, c'est sa durée très courte, qui fait ici opposition à certains artistes ignobles aperçus par le passé (je fais ici référence à Dr Dre et toute la clique des Ice entre autres). On remercie Astrud pour cela, et attendons avec impatience le prochain album.

I like her voice, and I like it better when she sings in Portuguese. The overall sound is kind of boring, but also relaxing. Good background music.

Enjoyable, though some of the instrumentation is a bit cutesy and most songs end before they really start developing. Economical, though, and atmospheric.

Echt mijn best gedaan om hier iets goeds in te vinden en er zaten ook wel aardige dingen bij, maar toch echt niet heel boeiend verder.

Ken haar alleen van Girl from Ipanima. Dat is nog wel te doen, maar dit is ronduit bagger. Je valszingende kind laten meeblèren doe je maar in je eigen tijd.

Het leek nog best ok te starten, maar toen er op een gegeven moment een heel dweilorkest langskwam ontspoorde het wel behoorlijk. En dat hele bossanova-achtige jazzy gefrunnik gaan m'n nekharen ook behoorlijk van overeind staan.

Blij dat het klaar was. Het leek/was soms vals.

The guy who invented the bossa nova beat was called Milton Banana.

Smoooooth. I can hang with this in the background, no probs. And I love the name Astrud.

Cool vibes. Give me a drink and a dash of sunshine, would make for a decent evening.

It’s pleasant enough and has some interesting chord changes, but it’s fairly bland. It’s almost as if this is an over westernized and sanitized Samba. The backing band sometimes sounds like it’s straight out of the 50s which is jarring considering what what going on musically in 1967. I’m a fan of Astrud Gilberto but this is just not produced the way it should have been. The jazz flute is great though.

Really smooth singing voice, but she has very limited range (which I think is her trademark). Every song is in 1 octave. Good background music, but that's really it for me. Did think the duet with her kid was cute. 2.5/5.

This was ok. Some songs were good, others were not. Overall, it was average.

Chill Bossa Nova music with no ambition. Track 11 includes a kid who can't sing, which pretty much guarantees a bad grade from me. Best track: Misty Roses

Not my thing

Honestly, not a big fan. I do enjoy Astrud from time to time as the bossa-nova icon that she is, but much of this album is a little too pop for me. There are some tracks that I've heard dozens if not hundreds of times while working at POMO. (Stefano was a big fan) So songs like Stay and the title song Beach Samba are tunes I'm very familiar with and stick out as catchy earworms, most of the album is a bit too aimless and overly sappy at times. Probably wont return to it anytime soon.

Pleasant enough, but really doesn't do much for me. It's like the Carpenters without the edge. 2 stars.

Raw Samba of the 60s was great. Just like all things great and trend worthy, when they go pop its an indication that the trend has jumped the shark. This is a decent poppy-samba album, but 60s pop like this isn't my cup of tea. Gilberto's earlier Samba is much more worthy of inclusion on the list.

Seemed very good for what it was, but what it was was not for me.

Favs: Dia das roses (I Think Of You), Beach Samba Mehs: You Didn't Have to Be So Nice This was an interesting one. I didn't necessarily love all the selections or their set up, but I *love* her voice. And I don't think I'd ever heard any of this, except Beach Samba.

Very chill and relaxing album. A few dud tracks, but overall I enjoyed it.

Hard to decide between 3 and 4 stars - I liked the atmosphere but it was ruined by a couple of tracks.

29th July 2021 Listened on my phone while working in the kitchen. Perfect for a sunny day! Very chilled, bit bland in places but a nice vibe.

Voice as light as air. Songs sway like the breeze

Music from a coastal driving montage in an Audrey Hepburn film, or from the make-up section of House of Fraser. Catchy and summery

Fantastic piece of late 60's "pop" jazz.

Very bland but pleasant. Reminds me of music from B movies like Diabolik or Moon Zero Two

This Portuguese album has tinges of pop and jazz, but the songs are so similar that they all seem to blend together. It doesn't satisfy my musical taste, but the album isn't particularly bad either.

Very summery music. I really enjoy the vocals and the bossa nova vibe. It's easy listening in the best way.

Restaurant chef simulator but its one of those games where you csnt technically fail and its just chill. Cooking mama vibes and character design but only the fun non time pressured minigames for cooking and then when you complete a full meal if you do well enough you get a michelin star. Minigames include chopping peppers, frying some vegetables, baking some stuff etc and there's a lovely vibe in the kitchen all the time and at the end you get to plate it and make it look chill, and there's some story about this being your grandparents restaurant and you want to keep the family business going. Anyway the albums alright Id give it like a 3, no final boss musIc so the story felt incomplete

I enjoyed it, but I get that most people didn't. Bossa nova isn't everyone's cup of tea, and whilst it was pleasant to listen to its nothing special.

Nice, makes you feel like you're on the beach on a nice summers day ordering cocktails with your pest pals, looking out for groups of people it would be fun to meet and hang out with. That said, I don't think I'd go out of my way to listen to this again, unless e.g. I'm actually on the beach.

Style banal et creux selon moi, malgré la très jolie voix d'Astrud Gilberto. Certains titres sont fun mais plutôt dans un style fête foraine. J'avoue avoir vécu cette écoute comme un supplice et j'ai été incapable de tenir mon engagement d'écouter chaque album en entier.

Really such a non-captivating music at all. Lyrics were quite lame, but the sound often times saved the whole song.

Originally from the album title I thought! Great samba! And then I was bitterly disappointed. I would describe this as ‘divorce music’ and not the fun empowering kind. This album is 28mins of pure wet papier-mâché.

That's some relaxing stuff right there. I'm more familiar with her husband but have always enjoyed samba.

Pues chill y todo lo estereotipico que se dice del bossa nova. Me gustó la canción inicial tiene el ritmo muy guapachoso y elegante que se acompaña con los vientos, Canoeiro también me pareció de las chidas va rapidito, los vientos, los metales y las cuerdas en una medida no excesiva pero le dan un buen toque.

2.8 - Disappointing. On one hand, Gilberto retains some of the dreamy, sunny, breathy elements that I loved when she collaborated with Stan Getz. Mostly though this record is saccharine and sounds like a record that an expensive hairdresser in Bismarck, ND would've played for his poncy middle aged clientele, just to add a hint of "hip" to his shop. Astrud Gilberto has always been “easy listening” but here she’s jumped the shark, eschewing subtlety, favoring a campy “swinging” bop. It’s sad that over the next few decades, an army of American studio hacks took this sound, chopped it up into segments, put those segments on an assembly line, glued the pieces together, packed the sound up and commodified it into a dull facsimile of the original Brazilian samba/tropicalia sound. Now you hear echoes of that sound in parking garages, elevators and bargain warehouse retailers everywhere.

Nachdem sie mich mit den Misty Roses und den nachfolgenden Blumen wahnsinnig schmeichelhaft umgarnt und fast schon sirenengleich in einen tropicana-umflorten Sabberzustand entführt hatte, fährt sie mir den Wecker in Form einer Marching Band in die Parade. Hm, wirklich sehr unsanft. Auch sonst nicht immer so ganz ausgewogen, außerdem ist der Titel ne Mogelpackung; da ist ja gar nicht nur Samba drauf, das geht auch in den Jazz, Bossa Nova sowieso und wie diese ganzen Tänzchen noch so heißen. Und dann dieses "Didn't Have To Be So Nice", süß - aber worum geht's da? Was macht sie mit dem kleinen Jungen? Trotzdem: Ich liebe ja diese Wärme, diese Holzbläser und diese schwülen Easylistening-Arrangements, macht doch einfach nächstes Mal noch bisschen mehr davon drauf.

Muy bonito, con un ambiente tranquilo, se antoja una caipirinha a orillas del mar (?). Pienso que a Astrud Gilberto la conocía inconscientemente y también creo que tiene mucho sentido para mí que sea música sesentera. Me gustaron sobre todo "The Face I Love", "Canoeiro" y "My Foolish Love". Creo que otra de las pruebas de la despreocupación que se siente con este disco son los sonidos infantiles que se cuelan, como la canción que suena a feria (desfile, justo) y esa pequeña conversación con una niña. 8/10

There's been a weird influx of latinx music in the past week after not getting any previous to that. Overall it was pretty cool, though I really hated the parade song (perhaps because I don't really enjoy actual parades either). Some of the other songs were a bit cloying as well. This works really good as a kids album, but I don't think that's how it was intended. It's fine, but I don't ever see myself coming back to it 3/5

This is the voice behind "The Girl from Ipanema". And there is A LOT of soft samba here. The best part of this record is the band: the flute (especially in the first track) is controlled and animated, and brings a lot of colour to what is, largely, an exceptionally dull listen. The songs themselves deal with nothing of real depth; the "Parade" song is particularly bizarre. I looked for some contrast in some of these songs (e.g. Perhaps this is a sombre idea of everything being a parade, whilst the singer looks on, unfeeling), but it's a reach. This is really just a collection of inoffensive rhythm. Unfortunately, whilst she undeniably has a beautiful voice, listening to (even just) 35 minutes of it is very dull. There was no variation in there, no colour. Just that dreamy, wavey, beautifully accented patter. It works for a song or two, but dries up quickly. "You Didn't Have to be So Nice" is a duet recorded with one of her children. Naff. FSs: Misty Roses

Relaxing, very aptly named. Heavy bossa nova vibes. Ms. Gilberto's voice is very relaxed and relaxing, and I think I could throw this on while cooking or hanging out somewhere. It's very pleasant. Favorite tracks: "The Face I Love", "Misty Roses", "I Think of You"
