Can't see the appeal.
It’s okay this. Wouldn’t seek it out again but was absolutely fine on in the background.
I get it, I honestly do...it’s just not my style. I actually prefer this slow bluesy rock genre Dylan to his standard rambling melodies though, so he gets a star for that. I mean this album is non offensive and anyone could listen without too much trouble. It just doesn’t excite me enough to care. 2 Stars!
Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Love Sick, Make You Feel My Love, Can't Wait Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: Well that was just about what I expected, I've been here for almost an hour I can't wait to start this last song so I can rate this two point five st-oh god is that SIXTEEN MINUTES I SEE PLEASE MAKE IT STOP i've had more than eNOUGH
Not bad
The first half of the album didn't grab me but it got better. The last song was quite funny if you stuck with it!
in 97 his voice wasn't already the same :(
Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy it.
Not particularly fond of Dylan's voice. Next.
didn't hate it but wouldn't listen again
Pretty uninspired from the Dyl man
An unusual production that seems to have a lot more blues and country focus, compared to the soft-folk and poetry from Dylan's earlier releases. I couldn't connect with this album as much and I don't think it'll be one of the Dylan albums I listen to again. I think it suffers in my mind from not being "early Dylan", which is a bias
Pretty boring album. Nothing inventive or interesting. Nothing very bad but no urge to listen to it again.
Cool, but if I wanted to listen to Memphis style blues I’d rather go with one of the originals.
Too blues for me
i don’t vibe with bob dylan
a couple of these songs are kinda cool in that oldy-blues kinda way, but heaps of it is also just go-nowhere introspective shit. and it just doesn't END. seriously, do we need over an hour of meandering country/blues jams? keep it to 30min ffs. fuck bob dylan, anyway. 2/5.
Naw som
What a slog, I think I'll pass...
it's okay
I really thought I was done with Bob Dylan on this list. I said it before and I'll say it again, I understand the influence, but there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON for this many records by him on this list. Especially a record from 1997 for God's sake. Are y'all ok? Instant 1.
no.
Dude this was awful. He already couldn’t sing and then he decided to destroy his voice and try again and somehow he managed to sound even worse on this album. All around, a horrendous experience. Please make him stop.
Again and again…not a fan.
Un horror, me costó muchísimo escucharlo entero
Just when I thought the love affair with Bob Dylan couldn't get worse, it certainly does get worse. You're telling me his **30th** studio album is in this generator as well? Even Bob Dylan's biggest fans admit there is nothing of his worth listening to after the 1970s. Normally, at the very least, I appreciate Dylan's lyrics, and storytelling, but that seems to be a weak spot with this one. After the opening track, there is truly nothing interesting at all about this slog. This is mainly due to his usual lackluster instrumental ballads, and that horrible voice of his. The fact it goes on for over an hour makes this a dreadful experience. Favorite Track: "Love Sick".
Not a bib Dylan fsn
On 209, I was wondering when a Bob Dylan album would pop up. He has plenty on the list right? He is one of the artists that is considered by broader media as an exceptional artist, but I haven't really listened to his stuff before. The stuff that I did hear, was awesome. Only complete album that I listened to was the Blood on the Tracks-cd from my dad, that I really enjoyed. Anyways, I don't think this was the best introduction to Dylan I could've had. I will revisit it when I have listened to, idk, other albums from him. For now this is just disappointing and for that I'm giving it 1/5
Listen I like the Bob Dylan songs what tf does he know about Willy wonka?? I love Bob Dylan's songs I hate his voice. He should've been a songwriter a girl could've dreamt. He sounds like the child of a rat and a cricket that smoked a pack a day since birth. It's so interesting but in a bad way. Joan Baez save me Joan Baez. It definitely ain't him babe. Sounds like the goat from hoodwinked. I really wanna like this I just can't unfortunately. His lyrics are really simple in a really raw way. If only he could sing 💔 Why is every song two hours long. How much could Bob Dylan possible have to say. Adele ate him tf up holy shit. He sounds like someone doing drunk karaoke of Bob Dylan. Yeah not good. Favourite: Standing in the Doorway Least favourite: Cold Irons Bound
Absolutely zero reasons for me to ever listen to this again.
i love the concept of someone saying "no no no, you gotta listen to his THIRTIETH album, dude. THAT'S the good one". this is a remarkably terrible album that is wholly unpleasant to listen to. obviously others disagree, but i do not think bob dylan has a pleasant voice. it doesn't help here that he sounds like he's on the other end of an aircraft hanger with how they've layered effects on his voice, but it's the songwriting that people always clamor about. i don't hear it. am i just a simpleton? an uncultured swine? i don't know if i've felt any connection and stirring of emotion from anything i've ever heard from him. the most i connect with bob dylan is when northernlion is doing a gay bob dylan bit where he's singing about cum.
The fraudster’s voice grows old and tired. His fans swoon. Word Writers who listen to words set to music assume it's brilliant. People who listen to the music just scratch their heads and wonder how he maintains his spell.
Just cant do it man
Please stop sending me Bob Dylan albums
Nope
i've only heard bob dylan's most famous songs before, this is my first album of his that i've listen to. every song on the album is 7 minutes of the most sickly and unenergetic singing on top of the most basic, boring and monotonous muddy guitar riffs. the 'lyrical genius' that so many people claim dylan to be is also nowhere to be seen in this album. i know dylan has like 7 or 8 albums on this list. my only hope is that it gets better from here. i really hope his other albums redeem this disappointing experience.
Not for me
Diría Toño, estaba bien nalga. Y Dylan tiene obras maestras
I really really like the instrumentals just not the guys voice
No thank you
not for me
Boring
Theoretically, this is a comeback album from Bob Dylan. At 56, he croaks like an old man through melancholic, sometimes bitter lyrics that can still land. Without the voice, the music is dull. With it, it’s still not pretty.
Didn't love this one. Couldn't even get through the first couple songs
Bland, boring, uninspired. Never got the appeal of this album, when there are so many better ones by Bob Dylan. Shouldn't be on this list.
... Overrated artist
I hate his voice
Boooooooooring omg vėl dylanas. Vieną dainą išsisaugojau. Atsibodo labai. Labai ištęsta. Jei bučiau koubojus prieš 50 m manau man labai patiktų.
I could never get into raspy Dylan songs
Uno
Sucked….next!
God this one bored me to tears. Maybe this hit me so bad because I really loved the last Dylan album I got here, but boy. This was tedious , long and boring and felt like there was no variety at all in the music score. I’m likely missing out on a lot of important symbolism and meaning but this album doesn’t really inspire me to look for it. It’s a genuine chore to listen to. I
I spent so much time looking to see if it was over. Especially the very long closing track. I just don't care for him.
I bet he thought this sounds a lot deeper than it actually does.
Zzzzzzz!
We Just gone done with secret Neil young and now here’s Bob Dylan singing about listening to Neil young I’m so tired. Anyway, this has some high spots but it’s mostly the bedrock foundation of any good slurred Dylan impression and I disliked most of it
This is certainly a Bob Dylan album.
I finally get Bob Dylan. After not liking and/or understanding his music at all for decades, I get it now. He’s not a musician, he’s not a writer, he’s not a poet, he’s a comedian. This album was hilarious. I get it now. And now I must troll people to think he’s great until they get the joke too. This album is so bad. I used to give Bob the benefit of the doubt as a “writer/poet” because so many people said so. I didn’t like his voice so maybe I couldn’t hear through it to actually hear his brilliant lyricism. Over the last several years I have listened to many Dylan records with my ear tuned in. It still didn’t really hit me as amazing. This album today was comical though. I finished his lyrics for him because it was so elementary rhymey and predictable. He sounded like a heart broken middle schooler most of the album. His voice somehow was worst than ever. Its a raspy, gravelly, bad Tom Waits impersonation. If you take off the intro and outro songs, maybe this album is a 2, probably not, but the first and last songs are 2 of the worst songs I’ve heard. The last being damn near 17 minutes long. It was a rambling internal thoughts of a man lost, over the same loop of crappy lofi blues. I imagine hell is just that for eternity. Bob Dylan the comedian 6/10 Bob Dylan the musician 1/10 1/10 #46/1001
Fuck rating albums. Just let me listen.
Not for me. 1/5
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/vNWNMh01Vn4 I was so bored with this album. It did nothing for me. Every song I was looking to see how much time was left. Dylan's voice is really rough as well. It's like seeing your favorite action movie star 20 years past their prime shirtless with beer belly on the beach. The only thing that might save this from a 1 star for me is "Make You Feel My Love", and I much prefer Adele's version.
the voice
My 4th Dylan album in 143 days. I refuse. And you might think refusing defeats the spirit of this endeavor, but I think having 40 identical-sounding albums from one artist on this list defeated it first.
Nope
I. Do. Not. Like. Bob. Dylan.
30th album. It's Naruto level perseverance. He never gives up. He gets up every time, hands shaking violently (because old) as he reaches for his shuriken pouch and pulls out a harmonica to play the same song once again I hope he became the Hokage of gay Paris in the end
I went to this only knowing the Adele song "Make You Feel My Love" and, from reading the description, I was expecting a late-career triumph. Imagine my shock when I put this on and it was completely unbearable. Dylan's voice now reduced to a barely intelligible croak, the songs themselves are just ok for the most part. I was never a big Dylan fan but this one really tested my patience. Key tracks: Make You Feel My Love

So oddly enough I got Bob Dylan’s Highway 61 Revisited yesterday, and now this. Wow, what a change a few decades make - and not for the better. This was a dirge and a slog. The people who say that you shouldn’t listen to anything from Dylan after 1975 are onto something. 1⭐️
Dylan in the 90's, sign me up!
Never understood his appeal.
The whole appeal of Bob Dylan is the interesting offbeat lyrics, the mysterious storytelling, the vaguely messianic character he made himself into. But w this album, it’s like he wasn’t even trying. Every song is just one tired cliche (eg ‘weeping clouds’ ‘i’d do anything for you) after another. That’d be fine if the music was good or distinctive or really just had a pulse. But this backing band is playing w all the creativity of christian radio act, and, when singing banal lyrics, then idiosyncratic nature of Dylan’s voice loses all its charm, and he sounds like a warbling amateur. This album is pure uninspired slop, ladled out w all the joie de vivre of a depressed lifer at the prison cafeteria. Four songs in I felt like I’d been poisoned, I had to find the antidote or my organs might just lose the will to keep pumping. The antidote, it turned out, was an album we heard a few months ago - Thin Lizzy’s “Live and Dangerous.” I think it is the spiritual opposite of this corpse of an album. I turned it up as loud as it would go and blasted myself clean.
It’s well known I hate Bob Dylan and his awful way of singing. So this was a quick nope!
there are soooooo many better Bob albums
Yes, let’s start my bob dylan experience with an album released 30 years after his seminal works. Perfect. Ugh. Well. Let’s give it a whirl. Vocals too high in the mix brother. This sounds like an iPhone recording. Like a 2007 iPhone voice memo. The music has a cool vibe, but this elderly man whispering into a substandard mic is not my thing. Not a great start to my bob dylan career. Also, side note. The tag of world’s greatest lyricist always made me cringe, and if you get that tag, I get to criticize sixth grade depth like “sometimes the silence is like thunder.” Let’s try to get through the next HOUR AND TEN MINUTES. This one was fine. Forgettable for the most part, but overall fairly fun. I guess? No. For real? This just feels so stale. It has a palpable feel of depression. It reminds me of summer and being incredibly bored and physically uncomfortable. The lyrics are nothing, the music is nothing. A complete bomb. Definitely needed to be 8 minutes too. Blues camp. A 60 year old man is having a crisis and signs up for a blues songwriting course. This is his final project. He sounds ancient but isn’t bob dylan still alive? Take me a million miles from this song. I burst out laughing at the initial vocal line. What is happening? This song is another failure. The music is just so dull and the singing. Hoo boy. Disastrous. Meh. This song is the best of a bad bunch. Have to say it. It’s not too bad. The blues feels a little more heartfelt. The guitar has some cool effects on it. “Not Dark Yet” is musically atrocious. The vocals stink as per usual and the vocal lines are awful. However, the lyrics on this one are good. I would rather hear this as a poem. More fake blues. I am completely baffled. How can anyone defend this? No means no Bob. This is PAINFUL. Genuinely one of the worst songs I’ve ever been forced to sit through, and I was a teenager in the early 2010’s. I hate this. Oh we’re back to smooth bob dylan. Oh yeah baby. Has anybody tracked Corey Feldman’s whereabouts in 1997? Did he release this album? Stop growling, your dentures will fall out. Also please blow your nose. I’m begging you. I CAN’T WAIT until this is over. I’m begging for some folk music at this point. I hoped the highlands may deliver but here we are, hearing my ancestral homeland being crooned about by an aged, fake blues musician. Literally mentions Aberdeen. Good lord. I feel insulted. IT IS 15 MINUTES. This needs a new paragraph. I write angrily about music. Like most people, music is one of the primary ways I consume art. It has emotional sway and a big place in my life. Not unique to me, but still very important. This fucking song is paint by numbers blues that asks for nothing from the listener. It has ZERO emotion and even less reason to exist. It is barren in every sense of the word. Stretching out like a canvas that has been lightly smeared with the muck of self-importance. This is a rich, washed up songwriter who has an enclave of sycophants telling him that he has value to the modern music landscape (he doesn’t) flexing his influence in order to shit on the music listening public. This song is a vanity project and actively detracts from the musical canon. What is this list? I feel like I’ve heard 1000 albums better than this already in my days on this bewildering planet. This is GarageBand music accompanied by world class terrible singing of mediocre lyrics. I know this isn’t prime Bob Dylan, but this was absolutely terrible from front to back. Geriatric blues parody that insults fans of singer songwriter music. See review of Highlands for a summary. Alternate titles: Bob Dylan jumps the shark in real time, GrandPappy’s blues camp project 1997, Overblown hack ruins blues for everybody. Hoping Bob Dylan has something to offer in the 60’s, because I’m sure this isn’t the last time we’ll see this man. 0 HIGHLIGHTS: Great Question.
Starts out better than any Dylan I've heard... but still not appealing. Track one is boring but at least he isn't pretending to be a vocalist. Track two is another "70's rocker misappropriating the blues" trope. Then the rest descends into dullynesque boredom.
wow yet another bob dylan banger. Im sure it will not be the last NNN
I would rather watch paint dry than listen to this old man warbling on. I just don't get the whole Dylan thing. Have to give it one star sadly as there isn't an option for zero!
Pretty sure this is the fifth Dylan album we've had from this list. I've committed myself to listen to everything, no matter how terrible, but this may be my last listen to anything this guy. I would like to say something positive, but I can't.
Look, Bob Dylan is not a good singer. However, he is a decent songwriter. That said, this album is slow and boring as hell.
Hard to listen to. Fuck bob dylan
I do understand how influential Bob Dylan is and was however this album didn’t reflect that, in my opinion. It dragged on in a way that seemed he just sang to sing and not in a good one. I disliked his voice completely.
A classic case of the emperor having no clothes? These songs are bloody awful. This is the kind of release that borderline angers me - like, obviously I don't care what people like, fine fine, so it's not all the album itself but I'm just reading that it not only won record of the year but is considered this massive and amazing "comeback" album and a classic - what, I can't go to 1997 releases and find even one better? Hi - OK Computer??? Obviously I'm being snarky and it's all subjective of course but how is this not merely a legacy honouring. "Oh Bob has a new album and it's organic and he's sober - what a genius!" I call total bullshit on this. These lyrics are beyond banal. The music is a recycled low-effort of I-IV-V progressions that were tired by 1973. So what was the point of this album? OK great - they helped him make an album that *sounds* retro. Yeah that is kind of a cool concept when digital and overly-technological recording was starting to dominate. Yet grading it on the same scale as the opposite, i.e. something that goes overboard with technology.... if you don't have interesting songs you don't have shit. There is nothing remotely interesting or new, the lyrics are incredibly weak; I'm not expecting The Times Are A Changing pt II but maybe I am and should. (...say something nice....ok "Cold Irons Bound" isn't bad) Man, I guess I'm wrong because everyone seemed to love it. I say don't believe the hype. This is terrifically lame. 2/10 1 star.
Yet again I find myself thinking "I'll try and give Dylan a fair crack, it can't be as bad as I think it is if so many people seem to absolutely love it" - but it genuinely is that bad and I really don't understand how people can like it.
Depressing album, Dylan at his worst I think
I don’t like Bob Dylan.
Meh. I honestly don't get Bob Dylan.
It may have more to do with me being in a car for 5 hours and less to do with the album itself (will never listen again to find out) but I was so bored by this, I’m going to sue Bob
mellow, easy listening. dad rock. i personally hate bob dylan's voice. whiny and gravelly at the same time. hard to get through this one
Gefällt mir nicht.
Bob Dylan makes another album. A double, no less. Sounds like all the other albums. Which is good if you like that sort of thing, I guess. But I don't.
Bob Dylan has 7 albums on this list. Do we really need his 1997 blues-inspired comeback album to appreciate his legacy? When artists like Harry Belafonte, The Cranberries, Weezer, Vampire Weekend, and Bon Iver are so glaringly left off the list? I posit that no, we do not. If any other artist put out this album, it would not have been loved or remembered. It’s on the list because it was Bob Dylan’s first decent album in nearly 2 decades. It brings nothing new to the blues, nothing emblematic of the 90s, and no worthy entries to the Bob Dylan songbook.
Not for me.
As if having two Bob Dylan albums on this list were bad enough, to put them back-to-back is sadistic. However, this album wasn't as terrible as the last one. I think that he might have had time to take lessons and improve his overall musical quality. Still better than Everything but the Girl.
The sound of his voice is like nails on a chalkboard
Don't lik Bob's mumble gruff voice style singing.
Great writer buuuuuutttt should never sing.
The stranglehold that the Boomers had on music criticism in the 90’s album-sonified. Dylan hadn’t done anything good in more than a decade when this mess came out but because the critics all liked him when they were 16 we had to appreciate this important new work. Terrible. This is like Jethro Tull beating Metallica and Jane’s Addiction for Best Metal Album at the 1989 Grammys. This late career middling piece of garbage has no place on an albums you must listen to list and I'm embarrassed for everyone involved that it’s on here.
Verga no. Lo recuerdo un poco y fue an utter shit show. Shite mate. Wont hear again. 1 de una.
Thoroughly disliked this album
really not a fan
Horrid. I couldn't get past ten seconds of Dylan's voice before turning it off. He might be the voice of a certain generation, but I need an element of musicality in my listening, not just lyrical prowess. Dylan might be a great lyricist, but he's an awful singer. Sorry.
Boring
I'm just gonna be honest here I don't like Bob Dylan
Ugh not even gonna bother listening to this. I'm really not interested in his music
I have an irrational dislike of Bob Dylan.
I'm just bored. And yes, this is one of the world's iconic artists, but honestly, it's 1997, and it is a long way from the days when he was ground breaking and had people eating out of his hand. I played this today, and I found nothing. No doubt the lyrics are important, but if you can't get drawn in by the music, then meaningful lyrics are not going to be much use. This did nothing for me.
To whomever hurt Bob Dylan: Good on ya. This was terrible. - Kevin
I don't think I'm a fan of 12-bar blues. Not much stuck out to me from this album. "Cold Irons Bound" was the one song I really enjoyed. Reminded me a lot of north African desert blues (not sure how I even know that genre).
Bob Dylan belongs in Room 101.
Meh
Not a fan of Dylan's vocals, so it's hard for me to listen to this on full
This is a totally arrogant CD, in the worst possible way. First of all, let's get this out of the way - Bob Dylan has a horrible singing voice. Like a 1 out of 10. He has a fairly large backing band around him - anyone with an ounce of humility would've included, as one of those band members, a competent singer. Far from it, Dylan downright features his vocals, which are the single-worst aspect of the sound. More broadly, this CD nearly defines white male privilege - it's the same super-basic, neither-particularly-good-nor-novel 70s blues, sung really slow because he's an old man on this recording, and about 30 years too late. And why do we care? Because he has a famous name? Oh, and it's 70 minutes long, because obviously we want more of anything Mr. Dylan has to offer. Far from there not even being one good song on this CD, there aren't really even any fun songs. Pass.
Urgh. Bob Dylan. I'm scarred for life - in school, our English teacher, Mr King used to occasionally do an assembly, and to get his message across, he would pull out this godawful hearing-aid-beige cassette player, connect it up to the PA system, and put a overly worn Bob Dylan tape in, and play it. Because - poetic lyrics and all that. Fuck me. Three minutes of Bob Dylan booming out across the assembly hall. We would there sniggering and cursing the day we were born with ears. I'll normally forgive singers with shit voices if they have character in their voice. But, you know on X-Factor when someone tries to sing, and it's the "here's the shit person, lets laugh at them" section? That's Bob Dylan. I don't care how good your lyrics are when you sound like an actual cigarette.
Wow his voice... I can not listen to this. I wish I could mute his voice and just hear the music in the background
jag hatar digggggggg
Stop giving me Bob Dylan I don’t like Bob Dylan
He was definitely out of his mind when he wrote this one. Bob Dylan is hit or miss with me and this one was a miss.
Couldn't wait for it to be over...late period Dylan is soooo overrated (really sucks). 1/5
Too deep for me
I didn't enjoy any part of this album. Nothing about it interested me or made me want to keep listening to it or come back to it.
I've tried to like Bob Dylan and I just can't. It feels depressing. I love depressing music but this aint it.
Didn't enjoy this one. Which was disappointing, because I like a lot of his music.
Even though it is early 90s, this still must have been a throwback album? Voice is worse than ever, music and style is dated and safe. Not convinced of any reason for this album to be on this list. Safe enough for 2 stars. Thinking of downgrading to one, as not only are the songs dull, but they are also very long. 7 minutes of generic blues? No thank you. Oh, and now covers... great. Really, why is this album in the book?
Man... this is bullshit. It's the 2nd Dylan crap they are pushing here by now. Anyone with minimal capacity for judgement a functioning year can notice that it's a stupid voice talking nonsense over bad music. Even Khaled is better than that
Out of mind alright.
Well past his prime and was never a fan of him in his prime - can’t even go to 2
Rubbish.
Well past his prime and was never a fan of him in his prime - can’t even go to 2
puff.. premio Nobel dice
I listened to a good amount of this, but I aint listening to 72 minutes of boring country moaning
meh
Nope
Pass
I just can’t stand to listen to more than 5 seconds of Bob Dylan’s voice
excruciating
I will not listen to anything Bob Dylan
His voice makes my ears very unhappy
