Starker Blues-Anteil (speziell klassisch „Since I’ve Been Loving You“) in einem ansonsten recht wummernd-treibenden Stück Rock aus dessen Blütezeit. Personal Highlight: „Friends“. Homer Simpson bangt mit weniger als 3 Härchen - mir egal: 3.3

Keiner kann die Kickdrum besser als John Bonham (generell kann kaum einer besser als John Bonham). Aber ansonsten: Ah, die Mega-Unsympathen Page & Plant mal wieder am schwer machen dran, ihre Musik, die man ja wegen ihrer beschissenen Voll-Toxizität so gern scheisse finden möchte, auch angemessen scheisse findet. Geht bei mir leider nicht so richtig, die können halt wirklich was und ich mag auch Songs wie That's The Way wirklich gern, obwohl Bonzo da ja nicht mal drauf zu hören ist. Naja, trotzdem kann ich mich immer drauf rausreden dass Bluesrock nicht wirklich meins ist, jedenfalls nicht dauerhaft. Mögen meine 2,7 Punkte Plant in den Arsch fahren und an Pages Eiern wieder rauskommen.

Starts off with such a bang (Immigrant Song) and then never really reaches that high again. Just OK for me.

I huck-ing love Zeppelin! Havn't listened to their third album as frequent as the others. However to begin this journey with one of my favourite artists excites me. Stoked!

Really enjoyable. A classic which I had never listened to from start to finish. Even the strummy acoustic songs rock.

I've probably listened to this the second-most of all zeppelin albums, and for good reason. It's really good. Celebration Day and Gallows Pole are the standouts, and despite it being overplayed for 50 years and its presence in Marvel movies Immigrant Song still rocks pretty hard....

More classic rock, not as good as II. Still gets a slightly generous 3, rather than a harsh 2.

Immigrant song! Others kinda merged together

Immigrant Song obviously the most popular but I guess I was expecting something a bit more. This one was quite bluesy/acoustic/folk, probably more than what I would've liked. 7/10.

Probably the weakest of the first 4 albums, but definitely one of their more interesting ones. Feels like a transition, figuring out a new style that they would do a great job incorporating back into their blues rock sound in IV.

I usually say I don’t like led zeppelin but I actually enjoyed this album.

This is a top Led Zeppelin album for me. Going to Wales was probably the best thing the band could have done in that point in their career. Here they gain a healthy infusion of folk influence. Jimmy Page's open tuning experiments are some of the highlights of the album. I view this album as Led Zeppelin's Revolver, an album that paved the way for their apex, in this case, the self titled fourth album.

Sounds a lot like Greta Van Fleet! (Did I make you cringe?! :D ) More seriously, Zeppelin is great. Had not listened to this CD before, a bit of a departure from their popular stuff, had a lot of fun listening to this on repeat.

Didn’t have the magic of some other Led Zeppelin albums, but still a solid listen.

There are some songs that I quite enjoy -  e.g. Since I've Been Loving You and Gallow's Pole. Just for fun I dug up Lead Belly's version of this song, aka Gallis Pole,  (circa 1940) and I kept listening to Lead Belly; it was more enjoyable than listening to Led Zep III!  Lead Belly also did Black Betty. Apologies if you were hoping never to think about  Ram Jam again.  OK, Time to reign in my ADHD. I like when  virtuoso electric guitar players display their acoustic abilities. e.g. one of the reasons Tommy is such an excellent LP is Townshend's acoustic playing on Side 1. (I'm getting initial drafts ready for when the algorithm starts sending Who LPs!) Page's acoustic work isn't as consistent as it is on other albums such as Physical Graffiti although it's ass-kicking on Bron - Y- Aur Stomp. (Isn't that song name also on Phys Gr?)  The acoustic slide work on Roy Harper is also impressive although the song doesn't really work. Whatever technology game they were playing with Plant's voice hasn't aged well - or perhaps wasn't good to start off with.   I never really liked Immigrant Song.  It's nice to listen to a Zeppelin LP that isn't overplayed but I don't like the hit, don't like the other rockers and only half like the acoustic / blues songs. 

Listening to this album I get a sense of the pressure on bands to produce a big hit single - as my co-judge says, she wanted to hear Immigrant Song, so she had to buy this album. After the hit, you get a deep dive into acoustic bluesy numbers that sound, at times, like demos. The band gets to indulge a bit, it’s good for the Zep aficionados, but for the rest of us, this pales in comparison to the LPs that came before and after.

I tend to avoid over hyped bands so I’ve never actually listened to this album. Must concede that there are some good tracks here, but Plant’s piercing screams are a bit much, especially when he does his “ooooooohhhh, baaaaby!” yell. Better than I expected though and these boys do indeed have talent so it gets a passing grade from me.

Definitely a repeat listen for some songs like Tangerine and Immigrant Song

It's Led Zeppelin. Album has a few top tier songs, but the rest is more just okay. What I want to know is why this album is on here of all LZ albums (unless there are more for some reason?).

Opening with the immigrant song is so good. Probably my favorite opening of a Zepplin album. But I don't think it follows the flow of that super well. But man is it a good album. Always thought it was a weird folksy sorta rock, much different than their usual sound anyway. I like it, it's different, not in a bad way. It isn't my favorite Zepplin album.

The real secret to Zep's success was Page's legendary quality control - just about any song on a good Zeppelin record could be a single, and if you were to ask any random music fan about their favorite Zeppelin songs, you'd end up getting wildly different answers from across their catalogue. It's why a largely uncharacteristic record like III works so well - in the end, the largely acoustic folk that comprises about half the record sits surprisingly well next to groove-rockers like "Immigrant Song." Of course it wouldn't be an early Zeppelin record without a super-long blues track, so here's "Since I've Been Loving You," which admittedly does feel less dragged-out than some of their other lengthy blues jams. Fantastic rhythm section - locked-in, never overdoing it. A high point in an album run that was one of the best ever.

Listened to the remaster while working. Weird Mix, but might be the headphones. Underrated guitar solo in Celebration Day Out of the Tiles is a potential backyard jam. Tangerine chorus is a vibe.

i know a couple of their popular songs and i like dazed and confused. from this tracklist i only know immigrant song. which is so short btw. doesnt do much for me. second song: meh sound and i dislike the lyrics. synth at the end was delicious. LOOOOVE how it carried over into the next song. i like 'celebration day' a lot better in all possible ways. song fades out which is okay but ill be thinking about the previous transition forever. OH i do know this song too ('since ive been loving you'), love it. nice. love a long intro when its this good. next song is good too it was just the second song really that i didnt care about and even then the ending was cool. overall album is very listenable cause i like chill rock songs but i dont think its all that. didnt blow my mind but its good and perfectly enjoyable. i added 'since ive been loving you' to my playlist for songs over 7 plus minutes :)

"Immigrant Song" is a great way to start an album. The rest of the album wasn't familiar to me. "Tangerine", "That's the Way", "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp" are probably worth a re-listen, but the album as a whole was only okay.

When I first dove into Led Zeppelin’s catalog a few years ago, I was surprised at how varied their music is compared to their mainstream reputation. This is the first album where they kinda started to deviate from the blues rock they’re mostly known for. “Since I’ve Been Loving You” is probably one of my favorites of theirs.

Definitely not bad, got some iconic songs onthere like immigrant song, and since I've been loving you was a long acoustic piece out of the ordinary. My favorite was Friends, which was a new track for me.

i'd only heard immigrant song, so i thought the rest of the album would be more or less the same, i was kinda pleasantly surprised by the variety but it's still not rly my sort of music

Overall the quality of the music is poor however there are a couple of great songs that I enjoyed within the album that barely scrape it to a 3.

I've heard the immigrant song before, a jam. Not my favourite but good. Friends is interesting. Growing on me, very special. Celebration Day is funky too. Since I've Been Loving you is a little jazzy. I didn't expect that, it's nice. Fulfills the word loving in the title. ---- The track organisation for this album appears random so far. The songs don't connect or flow. I haven't paid much attention to the lyrics though. Out on the Tiles is coo-ool. Sidewalk sound. Tangerine opening reminiscent of the Beatles Bron-Y-Aur Stomp is eh but good for background

I grew up on this album. Still holds up.

My favorite so far is “since I’ve been loving you” it gives off a funkadelic soul type of song while still hitting that guitar making it a rock. I love it.

Why can I not give this six stars!

Was just in the right mood for this one. Enjoyed the majority of the tracks - I get a nice wave of nostalgia every time I listen to Led Zep. Probably one I'll come back to again

Solid start with Immigrant Song. By the 2nd song it feels like a solid 4. Love the blues / blue-grass influence of Led Zep, almost a bit slide guitar. And can tell how they've progressed through the last 2 albums to this one. 4/5

A fun folksy romp, with one of the most criminally underrated Zep songs (Friends). It has a few duds, however, and doesn't hit quite as high of highs as some of their other works.

Great album. Not putting as much effort into this review as everyone else seems to have given up. Not my favourite Led Zep record by a long way but still a lot of great songs here.

i mistakenly remembered this one as the worst of the bunch. its not. it was surprisingly enjoyable. not quite so much of that famous plant whines about babies.

Love multiple songs from this gem. It is definitely not the best Zeppelin album, however, it has many highlights. I'd give it 9/10, however, as I can give it only 5 star ranking I am going to give it 4.

Tengo una opinion bastante variada sobre este album, en muchas de sus canciones me encontraba bastante aburrido, sentia como si fuera musica de fondo o si se estuviera repitiendo la misma cancion, pero esto cambiaba con canciones especiales, donde me encontraba asombrado y con ganas de cantar o bailar. En conclusion siento que el album es salvado por algunas canciones, pero en comparacion a eso las que restan se me hacen bastante mediocres. It's been so long since I've listened to any Led Zeppelin. Always a classic. I think this is probably one of their albums I've listened to the least throughout my life.

I, II, III, and Physical Graffiti all make appearances on the 1001 albums list. I love me some Led Zeppelin, but that seems like overkill. Especially because LZIII was critically panned when it came out, damned both for being less aggressive than its predecessors (Melody Maker) and for not being substantially different (Lester Bangs). Perhaps this album was included because it foreshadows Led Zeppelin's later work--Arabic modes and English folk songs both make their first appearance on LZIII. But I'm going to ignore LZIII's place in music history. Is it any good? The leadoff track, Immigrant Song, is relentless and menacing, driven by a staccato pedal point and Robert Plant's double-tracked vocals. A prominent tri-tone and a bridge that leads to nowhere, ending on a flatted 6th, contribute to the track's edge. Friends is a spooky modal tune, feature a flatted 5th and a minor 2nd. The arrangement is both sparse and ingenious, with strings handling a countermelody while Jimmy Page pounds out a rhythmic drone on the bottom. The song ends on a gorgeous synth drone from John Paul Jones, which leads into the next tune, Celebration Day. Here, Jimmy Page repurposes a riff from Robert Johnson's Terraplane Blues, but completely makes it his own. The chorus is pure pop. John Bonham's pounding drums seal the deal. Since I've Been Loving You is one of Led Zep's patented supercharged blues workouts--they wring out every last drop of emotion and intensity from the tune. Out On The Tiles is anchored by an extended Jimmy Page riff, woven together with Plant's vocal. The band is killer throughout the first half of LZIII. What guitarist Jimmy Page lacks in precision, he makes up for in taste, tone, and arranging prowess. John Bonham was the most powerful rock drummer of the era; sorry, Keith Moon. And the band's secret weapon is John Paul Jones, who plays keyboards with consummate taste, as well as bass. The second half of LZIII is less bombastic, which presents a problem for some fans, but is it really the weak link that critics claim it to be? Gallows Pole is a powerful rendering of an old English folk tune, driven along by mandolin, banjo, and John Bonham's kickass drums. Bron-Y-Aur Stomp has a more basic arrangement, but it's effective nonetheless. The softer tunes, Tangerine and That's The Way, are cunningly arranged and cast a melancholy spell. The weakest tune in the bunch is Hats Off To (Roy) Harper, which is 4 minutes of raunchy blues slide guitar paired with Robert Plant's processed vocals, in which he seemingly randomly spouts snippets of various blues lyrics. But even there, I appreciate how Jimmy Page recasts a traditional blues into something contemporary, utilizing the simplest of means. So, what's the verdict? I personally prefer Led Zep's harder side, but they pull off their more acoustically oriented stuff with skill, too. I prefer I, II, IV, and Physical Graffiti, but LZIII is pretty damned good.

Like the first half of this album a good bit more than the second, and think I was more interested in the individual songs than the album as a whole. Still, I'm excited to get and listen to more Led Zeppelin in the future Already Saved: Immigrant Song Saved After Listening: Friends, Since I've Been Loving You

Apparently this album is a transitionary album for Zep, can't wait to hear more.

This album rips. Immigrant Song is a killer opening track. This era of music, and Led Zepplin in particular, is known for the excess, but you have to respect a 40 minute album.

It's Zeppelin, you know exactly what you're going to get. I did like this more than I usually like them though. I think doing a whole album here works better than the solitary songs I've heard before.

Will always have a soft spot for Immigrant Song. Listened to this album a lot in 7th grade. As a whole, III lacks cohesion and lulls, especially when placed next to I, II, and IV. Bron-Y-Aur Stomp is a highlight I'd forgotten about, though. The last track's steel guitar (I think?) is fun too

The weakest of Led Zeppelin's four self-titled albums. "Immigrant Song" is one of my least favorite songs on the album and definitely my least favorite Zeppelin opening. The punchy parts of the music feel less powerful on this album. In a lot of cases, they just disappoint (like on "Celebration Day" and "Out on the Tiles", which both feel diminutive and repetitive). The softer sounds of the album are a mixed bag. "Friends" is utterly forgettable, toned down to the point of the drone of Plant's admittedly beautiful vocals but with little else to occupy the attention. That being said, the highs on this album are what should be expected from Zeppelin. "Since I've Been Loving You" is the first truly good song on the album, and it is one hell of a song. The centerpiece of the album (both sonically and emotionally), Plant is at his very best as he shouts and sputters through, over, and under the banging drums and sharp guitar. Utterly mesmerizing. The final three songs on the album almost succeed in matching the heights of "Since I've Been Loving You". "That's The Way" is one of the acoustic songs that realizes its potential; it is astounding (amplified by the fact that it follows "Tangerine"). Bron-Y-Aur Stomp is incredible fun and the repetition never grows dull. "Hats off to (Roy) Harper" is shocking; it captures the beauty of those early blues recordings whose crackling and cuts seem to come alive. If "Since I've Been Loving You" is Zeppelin's very best extrapolation of blues on this album, it's fitting that the second best song here so perfectly captures the uniqueness of early blues. If it were only these two songs the album would deserve a 5. However, they are weighed down by the failings of the rest of the album.

3.8 + Look, I just find Led Zeppelin exhausting. Whenever I hear them I think of my douchey college roommate expounding on how they were “revolutionary.” So, fine, yes this album is terrific - it’s 10 solid tracks with killer drums, piercing vocals and searing guitar. Braun-Yaur Stomp rocks my nuts off. My problem though is that it’s a dialed up sound. It’s like owning a Lamborghini. If all you need is to run out for milk and eggs, driving a supercar can feel like a chore. Same with Led Zeppelin. Sometimes I don’t want music to sound so maxed out. So my college roommate can suck it.

Wonderful rock record with an equally excellent folkie B side. Rock at its prime in its heyday, difficult to beat

“Led Zeppelin III” by Led Zeppelin (1970) Clearly the most underrated album by Led Zeppelin, this work deserves a serious listen by every music lover. Venturing into an eclectic mix of rock, blues, and even Celtic folk, Page, Plant, Jones and Bonham produced music of the highest caliber. “Since I’ve Been Loving You” is arguably the best blues rock song of all time—listen to the buildup to the most soulful scream ever recorded (at 5:30-6:20). Jones on bass & keyboards and Bonham on drums give exquisite, inventive performances, and Page’s guitar playing (rhythm AND lead) is stellar. But Plant’s unique vocal quality and range pull the passion right out of you. Dark & dank comic relief on “Gallows Pole” followed by the wistful “Tangerine” and the soul-wrenching “That’s the Way”—music to turn you inside out and back again. This is not top 40. This is actual music. 5/5

It's very interesting to listen to some Led Zeppelin songs that aren't part of the greatest hits of the band (for me, the only exception here is "The immigrant song"), but Led Zepelling is always Led Zepellin, so I don't have so much to say: Absolutely amazing

While hard rock influences were still present, such as on "Immigrant Song", acoustic-based songs such as "Gallows Pole" and "That's the Way" showed Led Zeppelin were capable of playing different styles successfully.

I had Led Zeppelin 1 come up yesterday, and I'm definitely still a fan of this one, but in comparison, it's not quite the masterpiece that 1 is. It seems more disconnected, and not all the songs are bangers. Still love it though!

This is one of my all time favorites. Zeppelin at their most varied, including crushing blues, heavy metal, acoustic and folk. Since I've Been Loving You is among my all time favore

I want to like it a lot more than I do. Lots of good: I loved Immigrant Song. Some cool interesting music in Friends and Celebration Day. Good catchy riffs in Out on the Tiles. Gallows was weird but grew on me. Tangerine was nice. There are things I like in every song but for some reason the sum of the parts (the album) just doesn't come together for me. I've never liked bluesy LZ songs and still true (but I've never liked the blues). Would rather hear Joplin sing those types of songs. A full album of his voice was too exhausting -- especially during the slower folksy songs. I can't watch cartoons for more than 20 minutes due to the voices and this was like listening to a cartoon character sing to me. I like that people like them and I see the value but can't imagine wanting to put this on again.

It feels wrong to rate Led Zeppelin so low. Immigrant song and Friends are fantastic, but I notice that no matter how hard I try, I can't get engaged in the rest of the album. I listened to it twice, but it just doesn't hit me. :(

For me, there is not a Zeppelin album that is less than a 3. This one- this is a 4.

Second half of album better than first half

starts off very strong with immigrant song but tbh i don't really remember the rest other than it's good background music

A great, expansive exploration of sound…on their way to Zeppelin IV!

One of the best.

Most of it is not really my thing. The high pitch singing from Robert Plant gets annoying to me after a while. However, tangerine is an exception, love that song. And Imigrant Song as the opener is also great (or maybe I'm just not yet tired at that point).

Vooral het nummer Friends was een positieve verrassing.

It doesn't get any more classic than Led Zeppelin. Some great songs.

Classic zeppelin

Nice set of classics.

I didn't hear too much that was groundbreaking. Maybe I expected too much? Still, I enjoyed it. 3.5, not yet a 4.

You know Led Zeppelin, they play bluesy rock really hard but I would say if you're into weird shit, this may be your favorite one. In other words, I think this some of their best, has a lot of depth to its sound.

Zepplin's great

I've heard this album a few times before, it's pretty varied and the songwriting is noticeably a lot better than most other rock from 1970. Zeppelin were ahead of their time, one of the few artists from this exact time that kinda DOES deserve to have a bunch of albums in this list. Everyone loves Immigrant Song etc, but big fan of all the 12-string acoustic stuff as well. Would get a 5 but some of the second half drags a bit. 4/5.

The 'acoustic' album with plenty of electric guitar! Not as many famous tracks, but still packed with invention and ideas.
