Reviews (page 13 of 14)
Incredible opener, everything else was just ok to me. Album Cover: I like it a lot 4/5
More mellow than I was expecting, apart from Immigrant Song. Pleasant to listen to, not sure I'd go back and listen again though.
Not my favourite led zeppelin but still an enjoyable listen. Fav song: Tangerine
Seems fine. Do people like Led Zeppelin or something? 3/5
Made no impression
Enjoyable album. Like Immigrant Song and Tangerine along with the last couple of closing tunes.
I'm not a fan of Led Zeppelin, but I really enjoyed the variety and production of this album.
Yeah was good some heavy hitters like immigrant song. Heavy sounds and screaming vocals
needed another A+ song like Immigrant Song for a 4
p204. 1970. 3 stars This is going to be unpopular opinion, but I don't think Robert Plant can sing. He sounds like a castrated bullock that has inhaled helium. It's like a weird high tone yelling. Combine that with the 7+ minute wankage that is "Since I've Been Loving You Too Long" and it makes your ears bleed. Shame, because there are some good songs on this, the rest of the band are on form, and Jimmy Page seems quite a good guitarist.
Led zeppelin II was better xD
Dad dock, my dad unironically loves Led Zeppelin Immigrant Song, Celebration Day and Since I've Been Loving You are bangers, don't really care for the rest of the album, the closing track especially is somewhat grating
its chill but nothing i would listen to
ok, prefer the latter half
Started out hot, nothing really of substance that caught me in the end
Good start. Lost interest.
It’s taken me a long while to realise this but Led Zeppelin are overrated.
I don't think I'm a big Led Zeppelin fan. They have a few songs that really resonate with me, but their sound is the prelude to the 80s rock bands that I'm definitely not a big fan of. This album has decent songs and is influential, but I can't say I completely enjoyed it. P.S. Since I've Been Loving You seems like a good rip-off of I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know by Blood, Sweat, and Tears. Best Songs: Celebration Day, Since I've Been Loving You, Tangerine Worst Songs: Bron-Y-Aur Stomp, That's The Way
Good. And that’s what they needed, validation from me. I’m glad I could oblige. Perhaps their career will take off now? Who knows.
too bluesy for me to be great
Immigrant Song one of my favourites ever. Rest was a little less exciting.
Not my favorite of theirs and overall not terribly cohesive, but it’s got some great tracks “Since I’ve been Loving You,” Gallows Pole.
The fourth Led Zeppelin album we've had. I still highly respect their musical legacy but have very little interest in actually listening to them. While loving the style they were at the forefront of, I just find LZs songwriting extremely unexciting and rather dislike the singer's voice.
This is probably one of the weaker Zeppelin albums but it still has Immigrant Song which is a classic.
A collection of belter classics and a few album fillers imho.
Oh what an age it must have been! Talent just kind of found each other and made the soundtracks of a generation. These guys were good
Like this one, Immigration Song a classic of course. Jimmy Page guitar workis of course awesome. Some tracks were filler in my mind
Led Zeppelin classic rock but so many of the songs on this album sounded so similar it's a little tiresome. I started to listen to this album while at work and doing some paperwork but it was not conducive to getting my work done. I later listened to it while I walked and it was better walking music.I know it's their style and it is classic but I'll just listen to this every decade or so.
This was... okay... Everyone obviously knows Immigrant Song, Since I've Been Loving You is a great slower song, and I really like the gentle sound on Tangerine. But, as a whole, it's not super gripping - I expect we've got better LedZep to come... 3/5.
Immigrant song is a standout. Mostly derivative blues, shines when they pull out their cock and balls and rock out.
Not my favorite of theirs but still great
Not one of my favorite bands by any stretch of the imagination, but there are some really good moments here. The last three songs prevents this from getting a 4.
2.5
Cool
ok, so a whole album redeems them a tiny bit for me, this was a fun listen
funky, fast paced, decent. -1 star for being straight people but idk if thats really fair
my favorites were immigrant song, out on the tiles, tangerine, and since i’ve been loving you. i really loved the instrumental in these songs, and i loved how much variation the album had.
classic. great rock album
I already knew a couple of these songs (and like them), but I don't think I'd go back and listen to this album start-to-finish again. Some of the songs got repetitive for me.
Great album but as far as Led Zeppelin albums go this one is one of their lower ranked ones. Immigrant song is a classic but the rest of the album is more a showcase of instrumentals than their first two albums. Still a good album but led has made much better. 7.5/10
I like Tangerine.
It's Zeppelin, man. That's all you need to know. But really, I'd say this is a solid record but it's not their best. I mean of course Immigrant Song and Tangerine are classics, but some other tracks fall short. One of my favorite things about Led Zeppelin is (of course) Jimmy Page. His guitar work is what brings me back to Zeppelin time and time again. This album seemed to have some standout acoustic arrangements, and acoustic Zeppelin is pretty great. Decent record, but not enough killer tracks to be "great" in my book.
Decent album. Some great choons but all gets a bit samey, bit dates, heard it so many times. Not one I’d keep going back to
More Zep before some Zappa! K. Top rated album named three gets three.
Okay I can finally say I listened to Led Zeppelin and I mean cool I guess. Since I’ve been living you is the best track on here.
Dexent
Some great songs, some not as great songs. Solid
Ahjo.
I liked Led Zeppelin II. This one, not so much.
Best thing about this one is the acoustic arrangements…2nd favorite LZ lp.
Solid
Immigrant Song is really good but the rest isn't really my cup of tea - nothing else that stands out to me
This is what I'd call a solid 3.5. Plenty of solid riffs as is to be expected of Jimmy Page and a number of songs that I could happily tap along to but outside of Immigrant Song, there's nothing particularly memorable. Unfortunately since it can't be a 3.5, it's a 3.
6/10
Started off with such a banger, but then was pretty meh throughout. Definitely lifted from a 2 because of Immigrant Song, but wouldn't give anything else on the album another listen.
Not my favourite Zepp album
Was always more familiar with IV and House of the Holy cause that's what my dad had on vinyl growing up. This album is fiiiine. Drags a bit after the first few, then gets going again with Gallows Pole. Album stays interesting after that, but I feel it really rides on the strength of the openers. Or maybe I just wasn't in a Zepp mood.
Good listen couple of foot stompers in there 3.5
Not their best, but there's not a bad Zep album.
Immigrant song is great, and there are definitely a couple of other enjoyable songs on the album (Friends, Tangerine, That's the way, Bron-Y-Aur stomp). However, none of them really grab me (besides the opener). So, regrettably, it's 3.5 stars from me (3 in the rating since I'm not likely to put the entire album on again).
3.5 stars
Less driving than their debut and the intricacies didn't grab any particular part of my brain.
Some classical songs but also some less interesting songs, should have listened more but like the later LZ more.
I never found Zeppelin particularly attractive musically. But you have to admit they brought attitude to the table. I prefer the first album. It’s nice they championed Roy Harper.
Starker Blues-Anteil (speziell klassisch „Since I’ve Been Loving You“) in einem ansonsten recht wummernd-treibenden Stück Rock aus dessen Blütezeit. Personal Highlight: „Friends“.
Starts off with such a bang (Immigrant Song) and then never really reaches that high again. Just OK for me.
This album definitely shows a different side to Led Zeppelin. A little more country...
More classic rock, not as good as II. Still gets a slightly generous 3, rather than a harsh 2.
Immigrant song! Others kinda merged together
Probably the weakest of the first 4 albums, but definitely one of their more interesting ones. Feels like a transition, figuring out a new style that they would do a great job incorporating back into their blues rock sound in IV.
Die Ansätze von Metal reichen mir nicht
3.5-4, 7/10 unfortunetly im 19 and cant relate to boomer music mixing hillbilly music with boomer rock is good tho OWO
Listening to this album I get a sense of the pressure on bands to produce a big hit single - as my co-judge says, she wanted to hear Immigrant Song, so she had to buy this album. After the hit, you get a deep dive into acoustic bluesy numbers that sound, at times, like demos. The band gets to indulge a bit, it’s good for the Zep aficionados, but for the rest of us, this pales in comparison to the LPs that came before and after.
I tend to avoid over hyped bands so I’ve never actually listened to this album. Must concede that there are some good tracks here, but Plant’s piercing screams are a bit much, especially when he does his “ooooooohhhh, baaaaby!” yell. Better than I expected though and these boys do indeed have talent so it gets a passing grade from me.
It's Led Zeppelin. Album has a few top tier songs, but the rest is more just okay. What I want to know is why this album is on here of all LZ albums (unless there are more for some reason?).
Not bad
Listened to the remaster while working. Weird Mix, but might be the headphones. Underrated guitar solo in Celebration Day Out of the Tiles is a potential backyard jam. Tangerine chorus is a vibe.
"Immigrant Song" is a great way to start an album. The rest of the album wasn't familiar to me. "Tangerine", "That's the Way", "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp" are probably worth a re-listen, but the album as a whole was only okay.
meh
Definitely not bad, got some iconic songs onthere like immigrant song, and since I've been loving you was a long acoustic piece out of the ordinary. My favorite was Friends, which was a new track for me.
Overall the quality of the music is poor however there are a couple of great songs that I enjoyed within the album that barely scrape it to a 3.
I've heard the immigrant song before, a jam. Not my favourite but good. Friends is interesting. Growing on me, very special. Celebration Day is funky too. Since I've Been Loving you is a little jazzy. I didn't expect that, it's nice. Fulfills the word loving in the title. ---- The track organisation for this album appears random so far. The songs don't connect or flow. I haven't paid much attention to the lyrics though. Out on the Tiles is coo-ool. Sidewalk sound. Tangerine opening reminiscent of the Beatles Bron-Y-Aur Stomp is eh but good for background
This is a classic album... Love it, another known to me :)
Great album. Not putting as much effort into this review as everyone else seems to have given up. Not my favourite Led Zep record by a long way but still a lot of great songs here.
i mistakenly remembered this one as the worst of the bunch. its not. it was surprisingly enjoyable. not quite so much of that famous plant whines about babies.
Canciones favoritas: -Inmmigrant song- Remaster - Since I've Been Loving you -Out on the tiles Canciones que no me gustaron: - Hats off To (Roy) Harper
Canciones Favoritas: That's the way Since I've been loving you Immigrant song Out on the Tiles Tangerine Canciones que menos me gustaron: Hats off to Harper
Immigrant song is uiteraard top. Gallows pole heeft ook wel wat. Veel andere zijn wat te hard
Like the first half of this album a good bit more than the second, and think I was more interested in the individual songs than the album as a whole. Still, I'm excited to get and listen to more Led Zeppelin in the future Already Saved: Immigrant Song Saved After Listening: Friends, Since I've Been Loving You
gonna be honest did not make it through this album since i've been loving you is good and some of the guitar parts are cool but: i do not like boomer music this album did not change that
Will always have a soft spot for Immigrant Song. Listened to this album a lot in 7th grade. As a whole, III lacks cohesion and lulls, especially when placed next to I, II, and IV. Bron-Y-Aur Stomp is a highlight I'd forgotten about, though. The last track's steel guitar (I think?) is fun too
folksy rock. didn't resonate with me
The weakest of Led Zeppelin's four self-titled albums. "Immigrant Song" is one of my least favorite songs on the album and definitely my least favorite Zeppelin opening. The punchy parts of the music feel less powerful on this album. In a lot of cases, they just disappoint (like on "Celebration Day" and "Out on the Tiles", which both feel diminutive and repetitive). The softer sounds of the album are a mixed bag. "Friends" is utterly forgettable, toned down to the point of the drone of Plant's admittedly beautiful vocals but with little else to occupy the attention. That being said, the highs on this album are what should be expected from Zeppelin. "Since I've Been Loving You" is the first truly good song on the album, and it is one hell of a song. The centerpiece of the album (both sonically and emotionally), Plant is at his very best as he shouts and sputters through, over, and under the banging drums and sharp guitar. Utterly mesmerizing. The final three songs on the album almost succeed in matching the heights of "Since I've Been Loving You". "That's The Way" is one of the acoustic songs that realizes its potential; it is astounding (amplified by the fact that it follows "Tangerine"). Bron-Y-Aur Stomp is incredible fun and the repetition never grows dull. "Hats off to (Roy) Harper" is shocking; it captures the beauty of those early blues recordings whose crackling and cuts seem to come alive. If "Since I've Been Loving You" is Zeppelin's very best extrapolation of blues on this album, it's fitting that the second best song here so perfectly captures the uniqueness of early blues. If it were only these two songs the album would deserve a 5. However, they are weighed down by the failings of the rest of the album.
Disappointing, not as good as I and II
"Immigrant Song" / "Hey, Hey, What Can I Do" Released: 5 November 1970
Immigrant Song. though the rest really feels like a southern rock/blues record. Plant has some cool vocal lines. a solid record but its not really a zepplin one that i like
Not my fav LZ album, too folky but some pretty songs. 3.5
Really enjoyed it
Classique.
Folkish at times, classic riffs all the way, and Plant's voice. Plant makes it all worthwile.
Classic hard rock - so comprehensively influential that it's kinda washed out by everything that came after it. Fave track - "Immigrant Song", c'mon. "Gallows Pole" is great too, though
Okay Zeppelin album. Only the real one banger tho
Meh. Not great. Just immigrant song and tangerine.
Not my fav Zep
Some nice acoustic stuff
Need to revisit soon
I want to like it a lot more than I do. Lots of good: I loved Immigrant Song. Some cool interesting music in Friends and Celebration Day. Good catchy riffs in Out on the Tiles. Gallows was weird but grew on me. Tangerine was nice. There are things I like in every song but for some reason the sum of the parts (the album) just doesn't come together for me. I've never liked bluesy LZ songs and still true (but I've never liked the blues). Would rather hear Joplin sing those types of songs. A full album of his voice was too exhausting -- especially during the slower folksy songs. I can't watch cartoons for more than 20 minutes due to the voices and this was like listening to a cartoon character sing to me. I like that people like them and I see the value but can't imagine wanting to put this on again.
starts off very strong with immigrant song but tbh i don't really remember the rest other than it's good background music
Starts off brilliantly - then some good bits, other bits a bit dull - the folky bits.
"friends" has a spooky background and i love it!!
I didn't hear too much that was groundbreaking. Maybe I expected too much? Still, I enjoyed it. 3.5, not yet a 4.
1970. Key Songs: Immigrant Song, Celebration Day, Tangerine
Decent songs but the vocalist is hard to listen to
The first minute of this album writes a check the rest of this album can’t cash. If it weren’t for Immigrant Song, this would be a one-star album.
Very slow album although it’s only 5”43 minutes. The first song is great but the rest just don’t live up to what the first song brings to the table. The songs are too long anything over 4 minutes is automatically to long and drawn out especially for his style of music
ehhh kinda not my vibe
at this point this is my third led zeppelin record, and I can't really distinguish this one from the others. sorry to led zeppelin
Immigrant song - no explanation needed, probably gonna be best song on the album, popularized in modern culture, fucking odin pops up as I listening to it Friends - India shit , pretty decent but not much going on, a little bit rock painted with spiritual shit Celebration day - guitar overlayed is pretty tuff, two guitar two sides, lyrics a little bit confused or I'm just dumb SIBLY - smells the blues from miles away, John P jones is cooking with this one, nothing interesting musically, feels like a jam, chord changes is pretty nasty, Robert is COOKING Out on the tiles - riff & rhythm is pretty cool Gallows Pole - Disney shit, 1876 American? Tangerine - out of sync with others That's the way - same as tangerine, not a fucking children toys instrument Bron-Y-Aur Stomp - its just page show off atp, weird, this is perfect for road trip ngl, Wales shit eh Hats off to Roys - Robert Johnson, love the south's slide tho, what in the fuck is this 2.5/5 ok album not much tho
Led Zeppelin is very derivative. Mostly from the blues. Nothing really new. I really don’t understand why they are so popular Lyrics aren’t very good at all. Softer than most Led Zeppelin albums Immigrant song is catchy. No other songs stand out. Imaginative album name. Not very good. Two stars.
Good, but not typically what I listen to.
2,5
musicas fav: immigrant song, friends, out on tiles
High school.
It was completely new to me. I had never tried to listen to this kind of music before. It was heavy rock of 70s and perfectly fit the 70s vibe. It didn't exactly resonate with me mostly because rock has never been a genre I'd usually give a listen to. There were two songs whose instrumentals stood out to me 'since I've been loving you' and 'that's the way'. It's not really my vibe. But it was brand new world for me.
Still can't stand his voice. And the music mostly doesn't do it for me either.
It is great, but not my style
Officially confirmed my assumption that I don't like hard rock
Not good ngl
Not exactly a fan…too vintage, which is an odd thing to say as someone who loves older music, but it’s true. Feels like an old antique store with nothing interesting to offer. Obviously well-produced, guitars sound lovely, but it’s so, so, so boring. Just uninteresting. Feels like background noise. Auditory equivalent of talking to an older person who just won’t stop yammering. Wouldn’t return to again.
Esta bueno, pero no me gusta
Meh
overrated?
First 3 tracks are good… and then “Since I’ve Been Loving You” shows up, pisses in the punch bowl, and the rest of the party never recovers.
Get out yer pitchforks, I'm giving this a 2. Everyone who's anyone has heard the must-listen material from this album already. The rest of the (mediocre, divergent) filler doesn't make the singles better. In fact, it recontextualizes them around milquetoast experiments or bog-standard blues, and thus construes them more as happy accidents in an experimental recording process, not the masterpieces rock radio purports. I find no story arc here, just a hodgepodge of music produced to varying degrees of completion. Take the closer, Hats Off, as an example. Why mix the guitar and voice in such a divergent, hard-panned expanse? The "missing middle" screams "unfinished". If we're supposed to accept this as a complete, self-contained song, mix it like one. It sounds like the missing element was left on mute during the mixdown process. I can't take this album seriously.
I'm not sure if I like it yet, but of all the songs from the album I quite fancy 'Since I've Been Loving You'. I personally haven't listened to many 70s albums so this is one of the very few, I will listen to more! I'm only rating it low because I'm not used to the genre.
i've already forgotten it
Immigrant Song and then blues. Not too boring, not too interesting. very repetitive when the songs sound the same. I, III, and Physical Graffiti have the problem of not having any good killer on them. this one is most definitely the worst out of the five.
An okay album, I liked Gallows Pole and Tamgerine the most.
Eh.
Since I’ve been loving you
Tasty guitar, a surprising amount of it acoustic, but Robert Plant's voice makes my skin crawl
First song: Immigrant Song very famous been in lots of movies. Less metal than I remember.
MEH
Not my favourite Zep. Immigrant song leads off the record with a bang, and it never really maintains any momentum. Physically graffiti is just way more interesting to me.
I bet Zeppelin fans were so relieved when IV came out after this.
Not the biggest Zeppelin fan. But wasnt bad. Nice car parts. Had some funky parts. Songs a little too long for my taste. But all around decent. 4.75/10 68.92%
Partially known. Fine.
i did not realize led zeppelin were so country pilled
I mean, es un clásico de led zeppelin, temas iconic tipo inmigrant song y eso, pero otra vez, no es mi cup of tea. Sonidos inconexos, melodías que no conectan entre una canción and the next, los lyrics (que es de las cosas que más me importan cuando escucho cualquier canción) están buenardos en algunos temas pero los instrumentales los ahogan, which i don't like. Siento que tenés que ser mas fan del rock en general para disfrutar esto, which i'm not
1. zong - 2.5 2. friendz - 1.5 3. day - 1.5 4. loving - 2.5 5. tilez - 1 6. pole - 1.5 7. tangerine - 2 8. uuay -1.5 9. ztomp - 1.5 10. hatz - 2
My first reaction to seeing this selection, “Led Zeppelin! Yes!…three?!?! Why?!”, and I stand by that assessment. Of all the incredible albums in their catalog they chose this one? Not the record-setting 4 or the solid 2 or my favorite Houses of the Holy or the impressive debut or really any other selection. This isn’t a bad album, messy in places, but not bad. It just isn’t their best in my opinion.
Led Zeppelin isn't my thing.
meh
With a few rare exceptions, whenever I hear any Led Zeppelin, my immediate inclination is to go find the "isolated drums" version of the song on YouTube and listen to that instead. The muted tone of most of the tracks on *LZ III* result in some of Bonham's least spectacular playing, so aside from "Immigrant Song" and "Out On The Tiles", there's not much here that holds any real appeal.
top 3 - Immigrant Song, Out on the Tiles, Since I’ve Been Loving You. Have listened before, can’t really get into it but maybe I have to be in a certain mood for it. Immigrant song is a classic though. I haven’t listened to all of their albums and there’s multiple on this list so I’m hoping I like those better -.-
2.5 - not as good as I remembered
okei // okei høydepunkt: immigration song, celebration day, since i've been loving you
Not for me
Not for me but also not horrible
Mildly interesting. “Immigrant Song” was the only track that grabbed me.
Should be one of the most influential albums even for me but somehow I don't really dig most of it
Good music at it’s core, the guitar was insanely good- would not come back to listen to any songs again.
Starts off strong with the classic ‘immigrant song’ then everything else… kinda falls off in comparison of where the first song leaves you. I didn’t expect this to be more acoustic than not but it doesn’t really work. Put it on in the background from working and no songs really stuck out besides the only song that is starred on Apple Music, immigrant song.
I've been listening to Led Zeppelin for 30 years.. They just aren't my thing. There are sparks of good things on here, Immigrant Song is OK. Tangerine is one of my favorite LZ songs. Mostly though, these songs could possibly be really good if Robert Plant didn't screech all over them.
Some classic songs although not consistent. Enjoyed the experience though.
i didn’t really like it
It was ok just not interesting. I only really liked the immigrant song.
- More pedos/SAers. - Other than Immigrant Song (and Tangerine and maybe the other slower songs later on the album), I find this album pretty overbearing and boring in equal measure. - Often sounds like he’s singing in a different key than the songs, possibly because everyone’s always doing too much.
2/5
Immigrant Song incredible. Everything else blah
I’m just not a zeppelin head
didnt like plants vocals. the guitarists were great, as well as the drums, but couldnt really shine most of the time
The LED just aren’t for me. Immigrant Song is great as are a few other tracks but can’t listen to Plant’s voice for that long. Nails on a chalkboard spring to mind.
Immigrant song: very famous, I think I like but I’ve always said I’m not a big Led Zeppelin fan, we will see what happens. I’m on song number 3 but I don’t really like it
Great guitars bit rocky for me but liked song since I’ve been loving you
Not my cup of tea.
I don't know. Some songs are not even good as background music. Just barely 2/5 i guess.
TML
Not 4 me
Eh
It's weird. I don't really care for Led Zeppelin. And I don't really care for country music. But apparently when Led Zeppelin does country music ("Bron-Y-Aur Stomp") those 2 things cancel each other out. For me though that was the one highlight on this album other than the "Immigrant Song" which is pretty much the only Led Zeppelin song I like.
This is a bit screamy. Nothing really stood out and caught my attention. I'm not really into this type of rock. Not something I will listen to again. I found myself wanting it to be over. Lots of wanky rock riffs and I found this as tiresome as Led Zeppelin II. Tangerine was the standout song. Tangerine, Thats the Way, Bron-Y-Aur-Stomp gave the album some semblance of listenability for me, but I think it is still 2.5 stars
Immigrant Song is the blueprint for the album. Killer guitar riffs, pretentious lyrics and no proper ending, it just tapers off. 2 stars ooh yeah, ooh yeah.
Uncle Terry probably likes Led Zeppelin. He has a beard.
Very stylish & influential but, apart from a few stand-outs—(obviously) Immigrant Song, Gallows Pole, Hats off To (Roy) Harper—it just isn't really doing it for me all-around.
Most interesting of three Led Zep albums I've encountered - more earthy acoustic sounds and original approach to the arrangements. But still not much here that I'd ever choose to listen to.
not for me
Its kinda amazing how time changes things. This seems to me, a young, that zep was demonic devil music in their time. And now its insanely timid to my ears. Like immigrant song is pretty good but nothing else really grabs me in any real way. This feels more like southern rock than hard rock or some proto metal thing. Filled with twang and some slide guitar its just not what I would think of when I think of Zeppelin. Its not bad per se but not all that interesting either. Since im loving you is pretty good until it drags on and on ad nauseum for what feels like forever. And its just slow all around. Nothing that drives the record forward. It just kinda meanders around at its snails pace and then ends. Im surprised to be so down on this one but its what I heard and thats that.
It opens with a bang but, by mid way through It just felt droning on. I wanted it to end. The last 2 songs took a surprising turn. They were completely different from the rest of the album and they were my favorite part. This is not their best album.
I like it less than II. Just don't get excited from listening to it, acoustic songs were a bit meh and the louder songs lack memorable moments. Since I've been loving you is the best song.
I enjoyed the softer tracks - things the girls out on the floor would have a tough time moving to. Stuff like That's the Way. But the rest didn't move me.
I've never been a fan of Led Zeppelin. I understand it's a me thing, but I've never understood the love of this album. It's a classic rock record, that's all.
high highs and way too many low lows that make you go "ugh get fucking on with it"
really not my favorite led zeppelin, but immigrant song is STILL stuck in my head. 2.5
Immigrant Song is fun and then this just keeps going
Oh nooo. I'll give them this: the album cover is fun and visually appealing. The album name, on the other hand, is vaguely threatening (if it's anything like Now That's What I Call Music III...). I never would have been able to ID it, but I know 'Immigrant Song' well from introducing a slow-mo action scene in like 5000 movies. As with many classic rock bands, they sound to me like a more boring version of Rush (slower, more guitar breaks). Not my vibe. Relative highlight: 'Out on the Tiles'
Meh
Okay, so I admit I come into this with a bias--I already know enough Led Zeppelin songs to know I am not a fan. This album didn't do anything to improve my impression of them as rambling stoner music. There are some good ideas, catchy riffs and pretty moments, but they are drawn out into oblivion until they just become nothing. Led Zeppelin clearly needed an editor lol. This album just feels so fucking long, despite only being forty-five minutes. I know this is """"blasphemy"""" or whatever, but I'm giving this a 2/5. I just don't get Led Zeppelin.
If you look in the dictionary for a definition of "uneven" this album cover pops up. Half the songs are good, bordering on great (and my god Soundgarden lifted a lot from Led Zep). The other half are truly terrible and cringey. "Tangerine" felt like the obvious inspiration for Spinal Tap, for instance. I'm not sure this album needed to be on this list.
Some good songs but a bit dreary
solid energetic playing but yea the blues blaccent feels more offensive the longer it goes on highs: immigrant song, out on the tiles lows: the last couple tracks
Not the biggest on Led Zeppelin, honestly, but am a fan of some of the songs that played on this. Largely unbothered, though.
He's obviously a great guitarist but as a band I think they are massively overrated. Robert Plant is so annoying! The best thing about them is John Paul Jones and his orchestral arrangements, especially on 'Automatic For The People' which I listened too once I'd struggled through this!
Okay
Not their best
Maximalist but also somewhat uninteresting. Lacks the shakedown grooves of Houses of the Holy or their live albums, which I like more. Mixing is very spacious, the drums sound killer, but its almost too dry in places. Sounds a bit flat and would like a bit more sludge. Guitar tone on Celebration Tone is amazing. Kind of gives me a headache. Favourite track: Celebration Day Least favourite track: Friends
ok really this should be a 3 but the last song triggered me for some reason
I have never been a zeppelin fan. I tried again by listening to this album. I still don't see the appeal. It is slightly better than expected but I won't waste my time listening to it again
Immigrant song and celebration day are pretty good but it's downhill from there for me. Robert Plant's upper register is a nails-on-chalkboard sound to me. Extremely talented musicians playing music I don't enjoy. Similar to Faces in that regard?
Heard it before. I have a massive nostalgia for Immigrant Song because of School of Rock. But as I get older I realize that I'd enjoy Led Zep's music more if it wasn't Robert Plant's vocals. I know he's regarded as one of the best rock singers ever but... something slightly annoying about his vocals to me 2/5
weak, Immigrant song rules, nothing else stod out at all.
It is interesting. I can sense why the hype. Blues tinged. Good riffs. But for some reason it has never floated my boat. Maybe the high pitched singing, the music s good though s bit overblown at times.
Avarage
Pre-listening thoughts: half expected to get either another Neil young album today or our first Bob Dylan album. Scared for a potential onslaught of both of them later down the line I suppose. But anyways Led Zeppelin always reminds me of this group of boys in high school who swore it was the pinnacle of music, and the guy who runs the Inn that my bakery is attached to. He shamed us for listening to “girl music” (pop from 2000s on) and insisted we put on some Zeppelin. I did not do that, and kept playing Carly Rae Jepsen shamelessly, for I am, in fact, a girl 😱😱😱. People like idolize this group but my shameful fact is I know three Led Zeppelin songs and that is it (Immigrant Song (which is on here), Fool in the Rain, and Going to California). I couldn’t even tell you what Stairway to Heaven sounds like if you had a gun to my head. Oops. Post/during listening thoughts: wow okay maybe I’m a villain because I didn’t really enjoy most of this. I think the lead singer’s voice is annoying as shit. Like almost as bad as Axl Rose for me. I like the folkier and slower stuff but most of the rockier tracks I didn’t enjoy. 4/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: no Fav tracks: Since I’ve Been Loving You, Tangerine, That’s The Way Least fav tracks: Out on the Tiles, Gallows Pole, Hats Off to Roy Harper
The immigrant song gave me ptsd flashbacks.
Cool cover. But just not my guys. I want music that makes my feet move or makes me sit in captivated silence. This lands in that uncomfortable middle ground of standing up, arms crossed, head nodding, nothing going on below the waist. And such indecipherable lyrics. What you on about Bob?
Starts of with one of the best songs ever made but then quickly goes down hill. Far too much of this album strays from there strengths and down the prog rabbit hole that is just incredibly dull. Highly recommend skipping this album the other numbered albums are better in every way. 2 out of 5
Some great tracks - immigrant song and gallows but not there best
boringggg
Nice enough but didn't grab me
Quelques hits énergiques : Immigrant Song Out on the Tiles C'est peu sur 10 morceaux. =>2/5
Some amazing standout tracks but not enough to offset the rest of the record sounding too similar. 2.9 stars
his voice is super annoying
All told, feels like kind of a lightweight album. Some real and incredible highs surrounded by what seems like a lot of filler. Somehow, I was exposed to the fact that you can hear John Bonham’s kick drum pedal squeak during Since I’ve Been Loving You and now it’s all I can hear. Ugh.
Eh, alright. I liked the strings in friends, but it didn't quite gel with the rest of the song. immigrant song is obviously the most famous of the songs on the album, and it's fine. I swear it stole all of the energy in the album, so you have one super high energy song and a bunch of sad deflated hacky sacks for the rest. I liked the vocals of that's the way, it's nice to see something different from led zeppelin. 2/5 stars.
It is a bland Zeppelin album. Immigrant Song is such a good opener then falls flat. Not for me.
Used to be into Led Zepplin when I first started getting into music. Then I moved onto other music and now generally find straight rock pretty bland. Zepplin III was never my favourite of theirs but on relisten I found it quite boring and devoid of the classic rock which I remember them by (despite what I said above there is still a time and place for generic rock). There are some fine ideas here but nothing that gripping - idk 2/5
I suppose the primary deficiency of listening like this is losing change and continuity over time. Anyhow, this is good! But it doesn't hold a candle to the first.
I just dont fw with it. Kinda a gut feeling thing.
Sometimes fun, sometimes boring. Mostly boring.
Too bluesy. Not a fan.
Album meia bomba.
This was a bizarre album. It felt really incohesive.
If they’d just played Immigrant Song 10 times then it’d be a 5 star album. They didn’t.
Fullreynt, þessi tónlist er ekki fyrir mig. Þurfti að bítla mig út úr þessu.
Again I’m not the target as this seems more acid rock than the Moody Blues-ish rock. The principal sings at a constant falsetto scream, interesting in one song not the whole album. Also the scream approach makes every song sound the same, with the exception of That’s The Way, which sounds Indian inspired. So in all, interesting for one song but too samey for the whole album (except song above.)
Not it
I listened to Led Zeppelin in my high school years. My recollection of Led Zeppelin I through IV albums was that they were very good. I just reviewed Led Zeppelin I the other day and it was as good as I remembered. However, this album is not as good as I remember. Okay album.
I don't like Robert plants vioce.
Generischer Rock. Langweilig.
It’s good, not great. A few very good, memorable songs a few weird sonically experimental songs.
The voice annoys
Crazy how much I liked Physical graffiti and how annoying I found this
Strong start that the rest of the album fails to live up to.
Immigrant Song is obviously really good Since I've Been Loving you is ok Everything else is like blandly fine but completely unmemorable idk why people think this album is so great
Kanske världens mest överskattade band.
This was mediocre
So, II is my "favorite" Led Zeppelin album, but this is also a band as a whole that I'm quite content never hearing again. I don't mind blue-influenced rock, and they were definitely wearing it on their sleeve, but they're like the Deftones in that any intricacies in the songwriting that could be appreciated by my dumb brain are blown away by some fan, unprompted, going "OH THEY'RE HTE FUCKING BEST DOOD" (no I'm not fixing that typo). Should I let someone else's opinion dwindle mine? No. Except when it goes beyond playing something ad nauseum. Much like tube TVs had a percentage of static coming directly from the background radiation of the universe, Americans have a not-insignificant play of Led Zeppelin in their collective conscience. ... Right. This was about a single album. It's fine.
Immigrant song is a classic, the rest fell pretty flat for me
was nice
Ok there's a couple of great songs on here, 'Immigrant Song' obviously, and 'Since I've Been Loving You' was a good time too. Outside of that they just seem to lose the plot, especially towards the end. When they're just going acoustic the songs are just big balls of nothing, doesn't evoke anything from me. I've struggled to get into Led Zep for the longest time, and the re-listens this challenge has made me do hasn't changed my mind in the slightest.
Boring Rock with no outstanding Features
Eh.. this was a bad Zeppelin album. The start of the album is fantastic with Immigrant song, but the rest of the songs are just meh if not very underwhelming.
Greta Van Feet has a cover band?!
Overrated. Only immigrant song and since I've been loving you are worth it. Definitely the worst from Led Zeppelin I-IV
First two songs are best, followed by a lot of underwhelming typical Zeppelin. Screechy Plant vocals.
I get a doomsday-vibe listening to this album, and it hits me how much inspiration Guns n' Roses have drawn from Zeppelin.
Can't dig on too much Zep. Blame 101 The Fox
Of all the pedophile rapists in the world, Robert Plant is certainly one of them.
Every time I hear zeppelin I imagine a bunch of pimply Bevis and Butthole lookalikes playing Dungeons and Dragons in a damp basement with shag carpeting.
I'm so fucking over these sorta albums. This is probably a decent album, it was a bit more interesting than others in the genre. 2.5/5
Not my favourite Led Zepplin album, II and IV are much better
Pretty boring
There is such a drop off from the banger that starts this album could i write poetry to this? n
tbf not rly sure how you are supposed to follow immigrant song as an opener but it wasn’t that
Has immigrant song but otherwise kinda 👎
If I could listen to Led Zeppelin without the vocals, I might like them.
Immigrant Song is great. After that, there is nothing noteworthy, just aimless rambling. 2/5
Think I've always had my fair share of oppositional defiance when it comes to Led Zeppelin. Years and years of dudes telling me the full extent of their classic rock royalty status and that just never being met when I actually sat down to listen to them. Probably doesn't help that my two favorite Zeppelin songs are "Fool in the Rain" and "D'yer Maker" which are like the least Zeppelin, Zeppelin songs. Having to start what will be a long piecemeal revisit of the band's discography with III is probably the worst place to begin. At the end of the day I don't care about how much of an alleged sex symbol Robert Plant was at the time, or even how much of a guitar G-d Jimmy Page was because Zeppelin was corny as hell. "Immigrant Song" ruins it's hammering blues-stomp with dumb ass viking imagery, "Gallows Pole" is an atrocity. At the very least they haven't gone full Tolkien here, but their pale blues imitation at times really doesn't work for me, "Since I've been Loving You" is about as close as I get and even then Plant's vocals take me out of it.
More acoustic than I thought. Robert Plant has a unique voice, but of course that's nothing new. This album manages to blend folk, blues, psychedelia, and rock into a mixture that matches the cover. Definitely meant to be listened to as a full album project.
Talent a good album does not make. I'm not sure what the planned effect was here, but this is a chaotic, disjointed album in about every sense. Almost every song feels as though 2-3 separate songs are playing at the same time. The wailing and cooing and murmuring of the vocals on top of that just leads to a mess, frankly. I recognize the skill, but this isn't it. Fav tracks: Immigrant Song, Tangerine
I still find LedZep massively overhyped, for relatively short songs they go on forever! Best track, Immigrant song which is fortunately track 1 so you can then skip the rest.
Really only like the Immigrant song.
