this was on the list on Christmas but I listened to it in March, it is good because its contains Christmas songs you hear literally every year but also its Christmas songs so overplayed is an understatement and its just not something you go out of your way to listen to ever

*1963. *Pretty great Christmas album - Christmas (Baby Please), Sleigh Ride, and Winter Wonderland are all particularly good. *The spoken word Silent Night at the end is garbage though. RATING - 6.5/10
These are mostly pretty fun as they go, I guess, and I'd rather here this than most of what they play in stores, but it's not the Christmas music I'm generally interested in listening to.
I’m not sure which is more accurate: does ACGFYFPS get me in the mood for Christmas, or do I look forward to Christmas because I get to listen to ACGFYFPS? Along with Vince Guaraldi, this is one of two Christmas albums that cut through all of my cynicism and help me embrace joy. Darlene Love’s shout-singing and Phil Spector’s “wall of sound” are a match made in heaven. It’s genuinely great, and my only hesitation is how much the Christmas season does the heavy lifting. If I got this in July, would I reach for a fifth star? Still, there are stone cold classics that I listen to way less in a year’s time, or don’t make annual appointment listening (though now I think I should.)
Heard so many times. Definitely up there with the Beach Boys Christmas. As weird as Phil Spector is, he knew what he was doing. I feel like I can't give it a 5/5 for a few reasons, but it's a strong 8/10

Who doesn’t like Christmas music? But honestly when this came on the list I missed it but I probably would have been over it by that point because I had been listening to Christmas music for a month and a half at that point. But not in March it’s great. All the classics.
I love this style of music and these are some of if not the most well known versions of this classic Christmas songs.
Alot of iconic songs but wouldn't listen to this on any other day than Christmas. 4

I don’t like Christmas music, the wall of sound or much to do with Phil Spector. I much prefer The Beatles Let it Be (naked) with all his tricks and multilayered mess removed. So no surprise I give this my first rating of 1.

J'ai trouvé ça insipide. Je préfère mes albums de Noël un peu plus pimentés. Ou encore les chorales de musique ancienne... Ici c'était un peu trop convenu à mon goût.

Solid 4 - the best Christmas album I’ve ever heard
Christmas classic
The original Christmas album which inspired countless compilations and covers. Almost every song here is the progenitor to a “classic” version of the same song but a couple of songs still survive as the ultimate version on deeply unoriginal Spotify playlists. A handful of oddities (most notably A Marshmallow World!) stand out for no reason other than the fact they do not have the world-beating fame of the other songs surrounding it. And it stands up! It was the best party record in our household this Christmas.

There's a reason why this is considered by many to be the best Christmas album of all time. It made for perfect background music for unwrapping presents and spending time with family. These versions of the songs are perfectly sung, played, and produced. My personal favorite is "Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home)," which is just a gorgeous song and, though U2 later recorded it, there's no touching the original. Phil Spector was a kind of sleazy guy but his production and ability to get the most out of his performers are in fine form here.
Y'know what, hell yeah. I think that 60s Christmas music was the peak of the genre, its only declined since, and you cant ask for a much better sampling than this collection, even if it does get a bit one-note. Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) is easily one of the best secular Christmas songs ever

OK, these are great Christmas songs. Is an album of well known Christmas songs suitable for the 1001 albums you must listen before you die? I mean I guess if it's possible you've never heard them before...
The album starts well with two Christmas classics (White Christmas and Frosty the snowman), which suit the production style perfectly, but as soon as we go a bit deeper with the Bells of st mary and parade of the wooden soldiers, the enjoyment level drops significantly. Aside from these couple of dips the album is generally a feel good Christmas day listen with versions of things like Marshmallow World and Christmas (Baby please come home)which have become the definitive versions.
Say what you will about Phil Spector, but my God did the man produce probably the most irresistible Christmas album. So many songs remain the defining version, “Sleigh Ride” in particular, but I could listen to Darlene Love and “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” every single day and never tire of it.
It feels a bit weird to say an album put together by a convicted murderer is "perfect", but this is a (near) perfect Christmas album for me. It does help massively that it has one of my all-time favourite Christmas songs - Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) by Darlene Love - but I genuinely loved the whole thing. It made me feel strangely nostalgic despite not being alive when these songs were released. I could have done without Phil having a chat at the end, but I'm not marking the amazing Darlene down for that. 5/5
It’s hard to rate this album the same way that I’ve rated the others on this list. The production is obviously immaculate and all of the artists’ performances were amazing, but it’s still Christmas music, which is basically only acceptable in small doses at a specific time of year. I am happy to add it to the fairly short Christmas music rotation along with Christmas From the Heart by Bob Dylan, Songs for Christmas by Sufjan Stevens, and a few others, so I guess that’s something.

I am so behind on the list.... today is the 7th April. I think actually though enough time has passed since last Christmas for this not to be that hard of a listen.

If we ignore the Phil Spector appearance at the very end, this is a delightful collection of Christmas tunes by some of the greatest girl groups to ever do it. And, unfortunately, Spector's trademark Wall of Sound production does shine through excellently on here.
I don’t think I’d like an entire album of 12 straight Christmas songs from one singer, cuz I feel like that would get old, but I like how it was a collection from different singers, all of whom I enjoyed. A lot of them I knew already, but some I didn’t and they were still solid! This would probably be like a 4.5 without the final, completely unnecessary addition from Phil Spector. *reads closer* wait, he KILLED SOMEONE?
Yessir, that was definitely a Christmas album. A pretty fun listen to be fair! But I know that there is Christmas music out there that's more than that -- music that I'd actually seek out for the occasion -- and this isn't it. Standouts: A Marshmallow World • Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
God I hate Christmas music. This is your typical album of limp holiday standards that are all so vanilla that I couldn't even really tell the artists were different. They don't do anything new or interesting with any of these tunes and this is destined to be thrown on in the corner of your grandmother's holiday party and forgotten. Waste of a spot on here.

A classic. Yes, I've heard every single track on this one a bazzillion times, but every one of them still holds up.
Bah-humbug ... I was hoping to get through this holiday season without hearing any traditional Christmas songs. This is as bad as putting an album of covers on this list ... oh wait, this is an album of covers! Sorry, I know people love it, but Christmas music is just not my thing.

Legal e divertido, muito bem produzido, e vocais bonitos. Mas o ouvindo, não dá pra deixar de lado aquela sensação que você tá ouvindo uma firula. Feliz Natal e tudo mais. É possível desprender o viés natalino deste álbum? Eu particularmente não consigo, e estou o avaliando como se estivesse ouvindo em qualquer outro dia do ano. Sinceramente, nesse ponto da minha vida, o Natal (infelizmente) é como qualquer outro dia do ano pra mim. A magia já não existe mais como antigamente, sem querer ser muito pessimista ou coitadinho. Então é, o que persiste é a sensação de estar ouvindo uma firula sonora. Uma brincadeira. Não dá pra levar muito a sério o álbum, apesar do ótimo trabalho empenhado pelos artistas e pelo produtor. Imagina ouvir esse disco no meio de Maio, por exemplo. Me sinto meio Grinch dando essa nota à esse álbum, mas é como me senti o ouvindo! Um tanto quanto amargurado. Mas não é um disco ruim nem nada. Certamente fará muito sucesso nas comemorações festivas. 3/5

Some of my absolute favorite renditions of the Christmas classics. It's rare that I put on "an" album of Christmas music for the holidays, but this one can absolutely be spun start to finish without ruining the vibe. Merry f'n Christmas!
Didn't really listen sorry
This was a difficult one. I hate Christmas music. I hate American Christmas music. And Phil Spector is obviously an odious murderer. And I listened to this in grey mid January. But even I was surprised and couldn't deny how much ubiquitous Christmas music was on this album. Ignore Phil Spector's involvement and dare I saw I enjoyed it?
I’m Jewish so no hard feelings but ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, there’s tons of great refreshed Christmas music (e.g. This Christmas - Donny Hathaway) out there. all of these songs are the rudimentary boring classic versions but hey I get it if that’s your thing. Very outside my purview.

I guess this was a very popular album at the time? But these are definitely not the best versions of these songs...none of them make the cut for my Christmas playlists.
The Ronettes and Darlene Love are some of my favourite Christmas music artists and I believe they continue to absolutely carry the genre decades later. That said, Phil Spector is a bad person who shouldn’t continue to be highlighted in this way.
This album gets heavy rotation around Christmas time. Fave parts are: - When the tempo picks up when the singing starts in Sleigh Ride - The spoken word thanks of the closing track
At first I thought it was cute to receive a Christmas album, but I must admit this belongs on the list. Phil Spector’s “wall of sound” production is legendary and makes even Pop Christmas music captivating. But none of that would be possible without Darlene Love’s amazing voice and the other musicians and vocalists that bring down the house. Even a deep cut (one of only a few) like “A Marshmallow World” was a jam. A consistently strong album from 1963. Merry Christmas!
1001 has regifted this album to me. Glad the music is good.

While I get some people hate xmas music and especially hate Phil Spector... I was floored by how many of these recording are THE definitive versions of these songs. The only bad songs here are their version of Rudolph and Silent Night doesnt really work as a shout out track Favorite Songs: Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) and I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus

You know a fairly polished Christmas album and with a lot of really great hits that you hear every year because of the quality of the songs. The songs made by the Roxette were definitely the highlight in my opinion, but for someone who works in retail it is a great list of Christmas music.

This album is a masterclass in wall of sound asthetics, and for that it's worth listening to for anyone who's serious about music production, mixing, or history. I find the wall of sound endearing, and makes for an easy long stretches of listening on the headphones without killing my ears. But definitely I don't want all my music to be wall of sound. For the music itself, not sure there's anything to say, saccharin formulaic christmas songs with good performances, but not something to seek out. I think this album 100% fits the "albums you have to listen to" for me. But one listen is absolutely enough.
This Christmas album contains the definitive versions of a few classics, like I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus. This could be a very divisive album considering that some people flat out hate Christmas music, but Christmas music always makes me think of my family and all of the good times that I've had with them. A good holiday album.

One of the better Christmas albums I've heard. Glad I listened to it, obviously won't listen to it until next year. Made me think of the restaurant scene in Goodfellas, but in Christmas form. I've never quite understood what the "wall of sound" is, but I know a Phil Spector produced song when I hear one.
Not even a Christmas music Grinch like me can grumble much about this album. There are so many classics in this album. Weird one to rate and rank, but heck, I'll give it a 4/5.

I was expecting more from this as it is always billed as an album with superb production. It reminded me of the Beach Boys doing Christmas. Lovely hearing these songs again. Again being the operative word. Maybe they are too familiar for me to have an impact.
4 stars It’s difficult to think of this as an album because it’s not something you’d listen to year round. It is so tied to the season. And it is not the work of one artist, unless you count Phil Spector. But this truly is perhaps the best Christmas record of all time. The songs are timeless- although they are also clearly a product of their time. It’s brief but it gets right to the point and doesn’t linger. It’s one song of another of Christmas pop tunes that are in and out.

Holiday
A compilation full of good renditions of Christmas classics. It's a fun listen during the Christmas season, but obviously not really going to be touched any other time. At this point I'm so Christmas-ed out that I'm listening to this in a sort of stupor. But it's solid. It's all-female 50s-60s rock groups produced by everyones favorite murderer/producer Phil Spector! You know what it's gonna sound like. Best songs are "Sleigh Ride" "Winter Wonderland" and "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" which is featured in every Christmas movie you've ever seen. I'm a pretty vanilla Christmas person myself. Love the classics. Solid 3/5, fun for the season. And never forget, boys and girls: Phil Spector shot a lady in the face and killed her. And to all a good night.

Very cool to have this at Christmas, it’s very of the era in terms of production quality, but I liked that it as a take on Christmas that wasn’t just religious and clearly influenced so much media following it.

What. An. Album. This song is nothing but holidays bangers from top to bottom. This album is only 34 minutes but it packs a party punch with the strongest performances coming from Darlene Love. I played this album in the background while opening presents on Christmas Day and it added the perfect ambiance while remaining interesting. This is the exact uplifting but fun and musical experience I seek from an album, let alone a holiday album.

Was always a big fan of the Phil Spector sound and loved Sixties music from the time I was a kid. I remember searching out this CD in the late 90s/early 2000s and finding it on Ebay, if I recall correctly. Just an amazing sound and wonderful Christmas album - gets a lot of airplay each year.
Ratings: 5: I will happily play this album anytime 4: I may occasionally play this album of my own free will 3: I will happily listen to this if someone plays it in the background 2: I will tolerate this if it is playing in the background 1: I will leave the room if someone plays this in the background I know this is highly rated on various Christmas albums, but I'm not sure why. The Wall of Sound Phil Spector sound might have been great at the time but sounds rather dated to me now. I'd reach for other christmas albums before spinning this one. Don't hate it, but I'm not vibing with it.

I chuckled a little when I saw this one pop up today. Well maybe I just breathed a little harder out of my nose. I suppose if there has to be a Christmas album on the list, today is the day for it. Insert joke about Phil Spector killing it with this album here. Then insert second joke about Phil Spector’s hair. That’s the real joke. Murder isnt funny. So Christmas music is not something I ever listen to on purpose. Even at Christmas. This album could be good or bad because of that. It’s sappy Christmas music that I hate but I suppose it serves a purpose. Not really being a Christmas celebrator I kind of wish I had a real album today though. 2/5

maybe i’m a bit of a scrooge, but christmas music has never done it for me. the tunes from the ronettes and darlene love got me into the holiday spirit just a bit, but the grandiose production from phil spector quickly wore away at me, and made this a bit of a slog to get through.

As far as Christmas music goes, this album goes pretty hard.

I'm not a massive fan of Christmas music but this was a nice collection of songs. I knew more than I first thought and it was a festive listen though I wouldn't really listen to full albums of Christmas songs. Overall nothing outstanding but I guess a fitting listen for today.
It's a Christmas album, so I am not gonna rate it high. Musically it's good, all of the songs could be used to represent their respective versions. It's just not my thing and it probably never will be.

Groaned when I saw this one bc not a big fan of Christmas music, HOWEVER my big gripe should be why isn't this called "Darlene Love presents..." Talk about women being the creators of Holiday Magic. Good nostalgic album.

Listening to this one precisely on Christmas Day. In the West, this date is highly symptomatic, and the way the American cultural industry has encapsulated it is quite bizarre. It is telling that this album was produced during turbulent nights, excessively exploiting the musicians and pushing them to exhaustion in order to create a record that sounds happy and harmonious. This is the kind of “Christmas spirit” produced by the United States. Nothing new under the sun — but it is always meaningful to look closely at these contradictions. More than forty years after the release of this album, Phil Spector, its producer, committed the murder of an actress, making it even clearer that his concern with the record was far more about sales and business than about spreading any genuine message of Christmas peace and love. Despite all this, the talent of the singers and musicians is undeniable. This is, of course, a product made for sale, but it is equally undeniable that it is a beautiful one. The singers possess immense talent, and despite the industry’s exploitation surrounding them, it is still possible to find living, genuine art in their voices.

Classical Christmas songs, I guess I'm so used to listening to them in movies that they've lost their enchantment.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest Christmas albums, only one or two of the songs make it into my annual rotation of Christmas favorites. I prefer much different styles, and while the music was decent for background holiday listening, I wouldn’t normally choose to listen to it.
very much in the Christmas spirit I like Christmas(baby please come home) it reminds me of cathedral kitchen i like sleigh ride too ( aslso reminds me of ck)
Some definite classics on here, but I don’t know that I’m going to be listening to the whole album that often.

Some fun Christmas tunes I know. Others I didn't know, but still captured the Christmas vibes really well. Personally, I'm not too much into music from the '60s, though I'll excuse it because it's Christmas music :)) Not the best Christmas album I've heard. I thought it was funny that the producer was thanking people on the last track. I've never heard of something like that before.

Watching on Christmas was great. It brought vibes, not a lot more. I loved "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus".

so this is obviously one of the best christmas albums of all time. this captures the essence of the holidays so well. (had no idea phil spector was evil until reading other reviews)
I don’t love Christmas music but this is top tier compared to a lot of others.

Oude kerstmuziek. Staan een aantal echte classics op en het outronummer is een prachtige touch. Ik luister qua productie liever naar Mariah Carey of Bublé, maar voor een keer op eerste kerstdag is dit ook erg fijn om te luisteren. 5,5

Ouvi esse álbum no dia 25 de dezembro, você quer algo mais propício que isso? E para quem já estava cansado de ouvir os clássicos de Natal (Mariah Carey, Michael bule, Frank Sinatra, Roberto Carlos, Simone.....) esse álbum trouxe os clássicos com outras vozes e combinou com o clima do dia.

This is what I want from a Christmas album. Old school nostalgic sounding Christmas music that feels warm and exciting with every song. This sound is Christmas joy and reminds me of my favorite Christmas movies. As far as Christmas albums go I have no notes and will be using for holiday seasons for years to come!
I don't tend to like Christmas music, but let's see. Vocals were nice always and the maximalist production felt sometimes right like in The bells of Saint Mary but sometimes too much like in Frosty the Snowman

Definitely some Christmas classics on this album that I love to hear every year. I've heard most of these songs many times, but didn't realize they were all on one album and the history of that album. Have to say that the "Silent Night" at the end with Spector doing the talk over about the album is a bit bizarre and self-serving.
