It's the reason for the season

Thank you 1001 Albums Generator site for the killer Christmas gift

So this is why I have to endure every artist’s own crappy Christmas album these days. But I’ll set that aside—this is the OG, it has a spot in the holiday rotation.

This is a tricky one to rate because on the one hand every song on the album has gone on to become synonymous with Christmas music. I'd heard just about every song from the album before on the radio, in movies, and/or casually around town during the holidays. It manages to capture the fun of Christmas music without being cloying or too cheesy. On the other hand, my personal guideline for this project is to save albums to my music account if I rate them a 4 or 5, but I don't want to save this album because... I don't want Christmas music to randomly pop up on shuffle.

Obviously this is an amazing album. Very specific, and really only something that one is likely to play around Christmas, but the idea that Phil Spector actually put it out at all is pretty great. I might call this a must have album (or must play) if you are even just somewhat into Christmas. Nevertheless, it is again, very specific, and it is not even arguably quite seasonal. This doesn't hurt the quality, but it limits its playability for all but the most hardcore Christmas affectionadoes.

I mean, I don't like Phil Spector, but it's a really good christmas album.

Such a great exhibit of Christmas music, part classic part fresh take

So, this is a nice little Christmas Compilation Album. It appeared just in time for Christmas (on Christmas day, so I assume it was rigged) and had quite a lot of popular songs. Overall, I had a pretty good experience with this album, which just had songs by different artists.

Darlene Love is doing some heavy lifting on this album! I thought this album would be a bunch of Christmas songs sung by people I don't know. I didn't realize that Darlene Love, and The Ronettes sing my preferred versions of a bunch of Christmas songs. Some major big hitters on here and the other songs are perfectly fine. Well done on the album generator for giving this out on Christmas day.

THE christmas album! Most of these versions are the definite ones. Merry christmas!

Christmas in March for me. A solid collection of timeless renditions of classic Christmas songs. I’ll flag this one for next season for sure.

Recognizing many of the songs from other holiday playlists over the years, I enjoyed hearing them all together. Still…it’s hard to rate this a 5 when you have the Elvis Christmas album lurking nearby.

Among the top 2-3 Christmas albums for me and I’m sure many others. Probably what he’s best known for too!

A solid Christmas album. Not sure how I feel about a theme album but can’t dispute there are some classics. Funny I read it didn’t do well on initial release but become popular in the 70s on a reissue.

Arguably the best Christmas album of all time. And the definitive Christmas album produced by a murderer. It’s great, but I can’t go 5* for a Christmas album. 4/5

I can't believe I'm giving anything with Phil Spector four stars, but I also know I'll listen to this album again next year.

Great Christmas album, could have done without the monologue during “Silent Night” though

this was a welcome listen on Christmas Day. lots of (what are now) standard Christmas classics on here. could have done w/o Phil Spector's weird/creepy voice over at end of Silent Night.

Pretty good Christmas album

Really great selection of all time christmas classics with their 1960s modern spin. I don't care if Phil Spector killed someone or raped or whatever. Its music, not a confession. Stop bringing shit into this 1001 albums that doesn't need to be brought in. A few misses but Darlene Love's version of Christmas and The Crystals version of Santa Claus is coming to town is beyond iconic.

Loaded with Christmas classics. Phil Spector was a violent psychopath, but the man knew how to make a great record!

It's probably one of the best Christmas albums you'll hear. But you wouldn't be playing it any other time of the year.

Fajne całkiem, 4/5. Taki świąteczny klimat

A new Christmas favorite!!

Well, its a holiday LP

It's a Christmas album alright. Better than most. 4 stars I guess?

first listen

I love Christmas music and this is in my Christmas playlist. So I skipped it. Both because I've recently listened, and because I get sad hearing Christmas music outside of the holiday season.

Owned Always loved this showcase of talent. Not much I can add to this. Could subtract the Phil Spector spoken word part but eh.

Schönes Weihnachtsalbum. Gute Hintergrundmusik.

Bekannte Lieder, wirklich passend

I like all the artists soulful renditions of classic christmas songs. They really turned simple Christmas songs into something special that isn’t boring. I find myself only listening to christmas songs during December but tracks like sleigh ride are enjoyable to listen to all year

It’s also not my musik

GOAT Christmas songs but didn't phil spector kill someone

okay the music on here is stellar but Phil Spector is a monster

Good Christmas album.

just an old school christmas album pretty fire

A solid track selection, shame about the Phil Spector association.

Schöne Weihnachtslieder!

60s very nice

This was recommended on Christmas of all days! Enjoyable and perfect for the season.

Lovely Christmas album

Great for Christmas

Nice to get this one right on Christmas Day, all classics

Cómo album de Navidad es muy bueno!!

This may be the greatest Christmas album. This is Phil Spector's collection of seasonal classics, in his well-produced, orchestrated style.

what a lovely Christmas album... shame about the artist

I'm not going to listen to this, tbh. I already know the whole thing and I also "know" Phil Spector. What it's like to be in his back to mono mind. He's very Nazi-like, the closest thing to Leni Riefenstahl pop music has. Oppressive, but undeniably impressive.

- yayyy merry christmas

Darlene Love forever

A lot of classics for Christmas. 4/5 but not in the library.

7.5/10

Good classic Christmas songs. If I ever play a Christmas album in my entire life, which I never have, then I would probably look to this.

An interesting mix with some real contemporary classics mixed in. It's a fun listen when you're in the mood for something a little different.

Guay para navidades. Le daría un %. Pero .... Phil Spector ...

Frosty the Snowman - The Ronettes Sleigh Ride - The Ronettes A Marshmallow World - Darlene Love

Yep, it's Christmas music

Great Christmas album because of the artists.

I have heard many of these Christmas songs over the years and I was unaware that the ones that I have heard were all on the same record.

Listened to this while tidying up a few days after Christmas. Yasssss Phil Spector...sleigh girl, sleigh! Someone should have clarified that spelling with him. Before Phil Spector was a murderer, he definitely produced some killer jams with his signature sound. I hadn't heard a lot of these versions before, but I can imagine this becoming my go to Christmas album in future years.

Loved all of the songs. This is going to be one of my favorite Christmas album.

This has to be one of the best Christmas albums ever put out. I’m not likely to listen to it outside of a week or two before Christmas though. By my rubric, it’s somewhere between a 3 and 4. But since I will come back to it on purpose, even if only one short time of the year, let’s call it a 4. I’m sure I rate other albums at 4 that I listen to slightly less frequently than that!

Cheery

a classic

Very nice album. Interesting approach to Christmas songs.

Classics

fuck phil spector. shat all over let it be. well... and murder too of course. very jolly tho

Does what it says on the tin

Darlene Love is the best. 4.5

Old school Christmas classics

Classic tunes. Just right for Christmas.

Christmas standards that everyone loves. I don't love Phil Spector for many reasons but I'm giving this a 4 as a tribute to the artists

A classic Christmas album. "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" is an all-time great. A fantastic album, full of songs that I still hear all the time so many years later. Pretty incredible. Darlene Love has such a lovely voice.

Classic Christmas album.

For Christmas music, this is great. I want to know what else Darlene Love did now!

This one gets heavy rotation at my house around Christmas.

Merry Christmas

Quality variety Christmas combo album

Classic Christmas songs, classic phil spector sound. Not much to say here, good album, kind of standard/boring song selection but they're all good. Repeats: bells of st mary, Santa clause is coming to town, Christmas (baby please come home) Skips: frosty the snowman, parade of wooden soldiers

Merry Christmas!

This is nothing groundbreaking, but if you need a classic Christmas album to throw on during the holidays then this one fits the bill easily. You've probably heard many of these renditions before, and they're classics for a reason. Hard to see much wrong with it, but the highs aren't quite 5-worthy to me. Highlight: Sleigh Ride Lowlight: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Surprise Hit: Parade Of The Wooden Soldiers

I’m not wanting any gift from Phil cos it might be a gun to my face

Nice collection of Christmas songs

I hope hell it's nice Mr Spector 🔥🔥🔥

Probably the most iconic Christmas album that isn't Mariah Carey. Dude was a maniac though learning about his later years. I keep separating the artist from the music though and I'll keep doing that I guess. Phil Spector was not a good guy.

Lots of fun songs, not too long. No low points.

like all the other reviews, can't really get away from the killer phil spector association catchy tunes though

Pretty much has to be the definitive 'hipster-approved/quite tasteful' Christmas album. All good

Thoughts before listening: This is appropriate for Christmas. Looks to be classic Christmas songs but with Phil Spector's over the top orchestral production style. I am sure this will be great. Review: This is a nearly perfect Christmas album. The Phil Spector wall of sound style really elevates these songs, and he is working with some of the best female vocalists of all time: Darlene Love, The Ronettes, and the Crystals. The versions of Sleigh Ride, A Marshmallow World and Christmas (Baby Come Home) on this album have become staples of Christmas playlists so it is fun to hear them amongst the other songs recorded in those same sessions. This is a 4-star album. That being said, I will only be adding one of these songs to the playlist: "The Bells of St. Mary" which is the only discovery I made while listening (and its a very good track). Great as they are, these songs don't make sense outside of the context of Christmas. I would rather add this album to my Christmas record collection to bust out every year during the holidays than add something to a playlist that I end up skipping 11 months out of the year.

Solid Christmas album with a lot of these renditions being the classic go-to-versions of the songs. Nothing more to really add.

Pretty good for Christmas music

DINGALINGALINGALING DONG DING DINGALINGALINGALING DONG DING DINGALINGALINGALING DONG DING DINGALINGALINGALING DONG DING

It’s a nice little touch that this is given on Christmas, but I agree with the comments that it’s kinda the last thing I actually want to listen to on Christmas Day, personally because I’ve already come up with my alternative Christmas playlist. It’s a good album though, as a producer Phil Spector could do no wrong

Fuck Phil Spector, but this goes hard as fuck. Merry Christmas!

Ronnie Spector could sing the most boring page of the phone book and I would think it was amazing. I truly believe she has the greatest voice of all time. The Crystals are also effortless, and while Darlene Love feels a touch more forced, the whole album is packed with great vocalists singing classic songs. Add to that the absolutely majestic horns dotted throughout the album and the trademark Spector harmonies and 'throw everything at it' production, and you can totally ignore the fact that a lot of the songs are, basically, stupid.

As Christmas music goes, this is about as good as it gets. 4 stars because I generally don't like Christmas

The recording’s era really makes this feel nostalgic, especially when mixed with the season. I don’t care about who produced it, I just like its vibe.

Yes he was a terrible person but separate the art from the artist and all that. Classic and joyful. Knocking a star off because I won’t be listening to it again any time soon

Это было прикольно. Родителям не понравилось, но мне песни подарили новогоднее настроение.

Classic Except for Silent Night Screw you, Phil Merry Christmas Favourite tracks: White Christmas, Frosty the Snowman, Marshmallow World, I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, Winter Wonderland, Christmas, Here Comes Santa Claus Worst track: Silent Night

Great classic, must listen on Christmas time and unfortunately only then.

Really nice actually

Some very nice tunes here, but it’s Phil Spector…

Guay para navidades. Le daría un %. Pero .... Phil Spector ...

One of the best Christmas albums out there. I love Motown and the wall of sound production style. Spector is who he is, but his artists are legendary.

Favorite Songs: Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) A Marshmallow World Sleigh Ride

An excellent Christmas album. I was surprised to hear that I had heard some of these exact versions before! Not quite a 5 because it has to be a specific time for it, and because they aren’t all my favourite versions, but great tunes.

Possibly the best christmas album of all time

Guay para navidades. Le daría un %. Pero .... Phil Spector ...

Album 268 of 1001 A Christmas Gift For You from Phil Spector - Various Artists Rating : 4 / 5 Favorite Track : Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) - Darlene Love Nice listen for Christmas morning. Since David Letterman went off the air, I've missed my yearly fix of Darlene Love singing Baby Please Come Home. Was good to hear it here. Other songs feature The Crystals, The Ronettes & Bob B. Soxx & The Blue Jeans. Awkward final track featuring a message from Phil Spector, who would find his place as a convicted murderer. Nevertheless, it is still a great Christmas album.

There is no Slade, Wizzard, or Mud but it’s still probably the best Christmas compilation I’ve come across

Cute album for the day.

terrible man, fantastic Christmas album

A little weird and offputting hearing Phil Spector's message at the end of what was otherwise an incredible Christmas album

A rare example of a compilation on this challenge, though it could be thought of as a Phil Spector album, given his heavy involvement and his name on the title. This album is at once a showcase of his "wall of sound" recording style, an extremely modern sound for the time of its release in 1963, and contains a number of songs still held up as modern Christmas classics. Given what Phil Spector would later become, it feels odd to associate him with the holiday. But honestly, it's hard to think of a more iconic Christmas collection than this one.

Good Christmas album

Some classic Christmas songs here. Glad to have it pop up on Christmas. (I’m sure it was not an accident.)

One of my fav Christmas records.

One star off for the whole domestic-abuse-sexual-assault-murder thing

crimas

Generated on Xmas day but I actually am listening to this on 15 January. It’s a great Christmas album but … the final track with the murderer speaking and thanking us for listening is not exactly merry! Considering he not only murdered one woman but also imprisoned and psychologically tortured his wife, and facilitating the sexual abuse of his children …… Well, it makes me glad he’s dead so I can listen to this album without worrying about finding someone as evil as that. Could be 5 stars in another world but in this one I just can’t give that to him.

Well didn’t that make my Christmas morning bright and jolly? Too bad Phil Spector is a creepy motherfucker.

Perfect listen for a hot June night 🥰

Pretty good for a Christmas album

US gold standard für xmas

Lots of great versions of classic songs here. This version of 'Sleigh Ride' took the original Leroy Anderson piece to the next level. Phil Spector himself is undeniably deranged but the quality of the music is irrefutable.

This would be great in a Christmas setting, but not optimal to listen to back to back by yourself. I enjoyed the songs I recognized, the rest sounded pretty similar given the theme.

Merry Christmas 🎄 8/10

Tough to rate because of nostalgia and it being the holiday season but the songs are good and Darlene goes hard

I mean, every other song from this album is a song on the radio at Christmas time, with Phil Spector production. Great album.

Feels like a classic Xmas collection 1st listen 3,5

About three or four of these appear during the Christmas scenes in Goodfellas, so it was almost an automatic 5*.

🎅🎄💖🎅🎁🎄✨🎅🎄🌟🎄🎂🎁🎅

Holly and jolly. Love the Phil Spectors emotional monologue at the end of the album.

Mewwy quismas

My absolute favorite Christmas song is off this album

Je ne suis pas trop fan de Noël en général mais je dois avouer que les chansons de Noël me hype.

Timeless classics with some songs I've never heard!

A wonderful holiday album, incredibly nostalgic and spirited. Darlene Love is fantastic on this.

being wanting this on vinyl

A lesson for all mixers and producers

Theres a cynical trend of hating christmas music that seems to come around every year, but i think its wonderful to have a canon of songs everyone knows and can sing together during a time when its important to connect to each other beyond the superficial. Traditions and rituals are largely lost to us as a society, but christmas songs are perhaps one of the last vestiges of that. That being said this has the definitive renditions of so many of these that youre never going to be amiss putting this on at a holiday party. The one original is a banger as well and has since become a classic in its own right, something many christmas albums fail to do so on that alone i must commend it. Merry christmas to all and to all a good night

Lovely from start to finish. Crazy how many of these are still played on the radio each year.

A lovely Christmas album. Will be adding this to my holiday rotation. I especially liked that sweet message at the end!

Actually a good Christmas album. Well put together

Short and sweet. If I were to listen to a Christmas album, this would be the one. A bunch of classics on here.

Very nice album to play at Christmas just skip the last song.

Nice to have on over the festive period

This is a classic Christmas album.

Phil Spector sucks obviously. (which is an understatement), but this album is a classic! I associate the music on here with so many good memories, and it has so many talented singers and musicians. -1 star for the track of Phil Spector speaking.

Yeah! Ok! I think a lot of Christmas music doesn't sound like fully produced music and this was consistently fun, well done, and had good soulful vocals.

What a joyful Christmas Album. Thanks Phil Spector! ❤️ 8/10

It's Christmas music. 7/10

Soft 4

very stellar album from the 60s. i love the renditions of Christmas classics. 7.9/10

So many classic tracks, felt like I’d heard the whole thing before!

good era for christmas music

Five stars for the wonderful Christmas music. Minus one star for the producer being a known murderer. 4/5

motown sounds of xmas classics. this isn’t just a great holiday album, it’s a great album, period.

I'm a total Grinch and still found it cheeky for this otherwise random list of albums to intentionally gift a collection of classic Christmas hits on the day itself.

Solid Christmas album with some great renditions of classics. As far as Christmas albums go, this is one of the better.

Some absolute classics here. I'm not a huge Christmas music person, but you never want to go a year without listening to a small dose of this stuff. Probably a 3/3.5 without context, but it's the holidays and I'm no Grinch.

Just a whole bunch of classics

The sound of Christmas

альбом норм, но он на самом деле не интересен ни мне, не вам, а истории. а история прикол

Brilliant!

Nice wall of sound tunes. Some songs sound even better than current Christmas songs.

Typischer Phil Spector Sound. Interessante Neuentdeckungen.

Perfektes Album als Hintergrundmusik in der Weihnachtszeit

Schöne, alte Weihnachtslieder. Englisch.

Classic Christmas songs, lots of Darlene Love. Sounds like a shuffled playlist more than an album.

Christmas classics

Happy crimus

I can’t believe that more of these songs aren’t on heavy rotation for the local radio stations during the Christmas season. It’s a fantastic album.

Way to go, Darlene Love.

For what it is this is one of the best of all time. I didn’t know how many definitive versions of classic Christmas songs originated on this album.

Surprised that there was a compilation for it

Neat perspective

Classic xmas Album

Merry Christmas Album A Day bot

Some of these songs have been covered tens of thousands of times and the versions of them on this album are some of the best ever done, if not the best. This is an absolute monster of an album. The only downsides are 1) they’re Christmas songs and so you can only listen to them a few weeks a year and 2) Phil Spector being a murderer. Other than that, a perfect album.

4/5 If you’re going to listen to a christmas album, listen to this one.

It was pretty fitting that I got this album on Christmas. I recognized quite a few of these songs from this season listening to the radio. Very golden time of Christmas nostalgia. I got to sit and listen to this entire album while driving and it was a very pleasant end to the Christmas season.

Wall of sound. Spector må vara skogstokig och en bedrövlig människa. Men här kunde han.

Definitely the Christmas gold standard for these track as far as Hollywood film needle drops go.

Smooth as baby's bottom. Could listen to it all day.

Kerstalbum met bijna alle nummers die je nodig hebt om goed in de kerststemming te komen. In de kersttijd is dit altijd 4 sterren.

Ignoring the spectre of Spector, this album is pretty phenomenal. The quintessential version of that Christmas classic that you’ve got in your head? It’s on this album. Every single track. But Spector … yikes.

Lots of classic Christmas tunes I'd hear in the radio during the holidays. Didn't know these were all tied to Phil Spector. A bit of a Motown flavor.

Exactly what I wanted it to be on Christmas Day. Minus one star for the Phil Spector of it all.

It's Christmas, it's a great list of classic Christmas songs, nuff said

I wish I would have known that this app sends you a Christmas album on Christmas, as I would have popped back in here to see what it was and make it a part of my holiday. Especially when it's going to recommend a classic such as this! Wasn't familiar with this album but I'm always welcoming of classic xmas tracks that aren't annoying new pop-remakes. Will certainly be in rotation next Christmas! Was kinda weird listening to this January 3rd but that's ok.

Classic Christmas bangers. Thank you, Phil

12/25/23. Merry Christmas! Some good, classic, Christmas songs that are well produced with some great vocals. A nice break from the main holiday songs we hear each year.

nice versions of Christmas classics

One of the great Christmas albums. I have this on vinyl.

Looked at the reviews and it turns out Phil Spector is a murderer… Christmas cheer anyone? These are definitely the best Christmas classics so I will be giving this a nice golden Christmas star, but not for that creepy Phil Spector message at the end!!

Good choice for the season!

Very lovely Christmas record. Favourite tracks: Santa Claus Is Coming to Town, Sleigh Ride, Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).

Edit: Phil Spector is a terrible human, but I love Christmas music, and listening to this again around the holidays made me realize how good it is. If there’s going to be a Christmas album on the list, I suppose this would be the one. Lots of classics, and it’s enjoyable, just not sure it needs to be here. But it’s fun that I got this on Christmas!

Helped to have this on Xmas day - got all the classics and some other songs by women, made a nice change to Bing and Buble

The classic sound of Christmas. (I'm fine with not getting a gift from Phil Spector though.)

Great X-Mas Album! I only rate the music so 4Star as a X-Mas Album it works perfect with all those different Artists and Build Up like a good Playlist. Dont get booring and easy playable Album during Christmas.

Probably one of the greatest Christmas albums ever made, but therein is the problem, it's a Christmas album. There's only about a 1 month period you're going to listen to it (also, Phil Spector's message on the last track has NOT aged well). But, the recordings are iconic, the talent is amazing, and it's not truly Christmas season until you hear Darlene Love belting out Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).

I didn’t listen to this on Christmas Day but it sure was a perfect day for it. I’m sure it was lovely. Don’t really know what to rate here since it’s a Christmas theme. I guess 4.

It’s so smooth, a lot of these are so iconic too, particularly Sleigh Ride by the Ronettes. Lovely.

Lots of classics here

A fun Christmas album that suits the Festive period.

Love some Christmas music

Merry Christmas

Phil Specter's brand of sugary pop music combined with christmas music is really a magical combination that was made to be. The perfect way to have a fun, classy christmas album. A

Godt gammel Jul musikk. Bedre enn Last Christmas, definitivt.

Classic Great Christmas listening

Great classics

I listen to this every Christmas and its sound is definitely part of my Christmas, despite the controversies around the man himself. Darlene Love is an amazing artist, and Walking in a Winter Wonderland has long been one of my favourite Christmas songs. I also love The Ronettes' version of Sleigh Ride.

Can listen to the Ronettes & Darlene Love all day.

Merry Christmas !!

back when a woman was a woman! hell YEAH!

As good as Christmas music gets.

L’enfer sur terre les albums de Noël, mais celui-là c’était cool

A truly great Christmas album!

Had already listened to this today before I saw this :) forgot how good Marshmallow World is too in addition to the hits

Tight af. Darlene love is best. Hilarious spoken word from phil at end

Very Christmas-y!

Merry Christmas!

Fuck Phil Spector

As far as xmas music goes, this was enjoyable. ho ho ho

Perfect soundtrack for baking cookies, decorating the tree & all that stuff

Merry Jermas!

Merry Crisis

Jump scare on the final track. Glad he's dead now. Good album though!! Darlene Love kills it on every song she sings!!

I’m a sucker for Xmas songs.

Would be 5 but that whole murder thing you know

A must have for the vinyl collection. We’ve been listening to this one several times a week lately to get into the holiday spirit. Easily my favorite murder-adjacent Christmas album. The monologue at the end hasn’t aged well, but otherwise this is solid gold. Plus it’s basically the soundtrack to Goodfellas, so bonus points there as well. A great way to celebrate the season.

7 Baby Jesuses out of 10

pretty nice album and kudos for the not-random timing

The random generator randomly generated a Christmas album on Christmas? Seems fishy. But thank god for it, because I hate Christmas music outside of Christmas. I will admit that this album is infectious, no matter how overplayed the individual songs are. And you gotta love Darlene Love.

I bunch of versions I had never heard, but I loved them

Some duds on here

Great Christmas party soundtrack

Fairly decent collection of Christmas songs.

Kind of the GOAT of Christmas albums. Puts a fresh spin on a lot of classics. With time this album has become a classic itself.

Honestly my favorite Christmas album

If I'm listening to Christmas music, this is the sort of music I prefer: Upbeat, secular, and mid-century. Tons of recognizable songs from other Christmas mixes here, so pretty 5-stsr record... though I'm subtracting a star for Spector, y'know, killing someone.

A lot of classics here all under one room with that Phil Spector production magic. Love Darlene Love!

I thought I'd listened to most christmas music. Turns out I had, and this album has an unfair proportion of good ones.

Come on….60s Christmas music is what I was brought up on. This along with the older artist like Burl Ives, Andy Williams, Nat King Cole, etc, that is what Christmas sounds like.

Didn’t think a Christmas album could be much more than overly-sentimental schlock, but this is some genuine fun. Will become an annual holiday listen for sure.

CLASSIC. Saved for future christmases.

Well duh!

It’s understandable that David Letterman had Darlene Love on his show to perform Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) every year for 28 years. It’s one of the greatest songs of all time! Christmas or otherwise.

Classic Christmas for sure. I enjoyed it but only seasonally. I did add this to my albums so I'll give it a listen again this time next year.

Pretty good Christmas album. Would listen to while decorating the tree.

A Christmas classic. The “wall of sound” on the album is no joke. It is incredible.

It's refreshing to hear Christmas songs from 60s girl groups rather than old crooners, in my opinion. Well performed and produced with even the songs I typically don't care for are enjoyable.

I bit the bullet and listened to this at 6am after my usual bout of insomnia. So many classic Christmas Standards on here produced by a musical genius. I never realised all these were released on a single album and that Phil Spector was behind them all. What's not to like? Maybe being murdered by said musical genius. A high 4.

Gotta separate the art from the artist here. Results in beautiful Christmas album that balances enough enthusiasm and passion without becoming overly whiny.

Actually a pretty good collection of Christmas songs. Perfect for Christmas yesterday. 4/5

classic. adorable

Christmas :) I liked it. Phil Spector knows his stuff even if he is a murderer or whatever Best song: Sleigh Ride

Every Xmas banger you know is on here

This album is great. Unfortunate that it isn't on Spotify.

- it’s after Christmas so unfortunately I won’t be listening to this - looking at the compilation tho this is clearly a fantastic album

What an interesting project! It’s like Brian Wilson and John Hughes hired Chris Colombus and all of Motown to make a rom com musical about Christmas and they all went to Disney World with 1000 musicians and hit record. A couple of tracks on here are absolute classics, namely The Ronettes’ Sleigh Ride and Darlene Love’s Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).

This was nice! Several of these are my go-to versions of their respective songs already, I like the sound of 60s Xmas music especially.

I'll admit, overexposure & my growing cynicism (& possibly a lack of snow this year) have dimmed my enjoyment of the Christmas canon quite a bit, but this is still a damn good Christmas album. favs: Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), Sleigh Ride, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Here Comes Santa Claus, Winter Wonderland worst: Silent Night sidenote: may Ronnie Spector forever Rest in Peace & may Phil Spector forever Rot in Pieces.

This is arguably the best Christmas album of all time! It seems at the time it wasn't well received (possibly because it was released on Nov 22, 1963 - the same day as President Kennedy was assassinated). Re-released on Apple Records in the 70's it started to pick up. Another push for this album is the number of mainstream stars who covered these songs (Springsteen, U2, Bublé) basing their versions on these Phil Spector arrangements. The album has also been cited by Brian Wilson as his favorite album of all time. This is Phil Spector and the Wrecking Crew at their peak. Love this album. The one song I never get tired of is Darlene Love's Christmas Baby Please Come Home. Favorite Songs: Sleigh Ride, Frosty, Winter Wonderland, Christmas Baby Please Come Home.

A stone-cold CHRISTMAS classic. MAXIMUM JINGLE BELLS. 10,000 TAMBOURINES. Beyond the hits, there's a lot to love throughout. But Darlene Love really steals the show! Favourite tracks: White Christmas, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home), Winter Wonderland

That is a Chirstmas album. Obviously a banger. Not sure that it is a Must Listen but oh well 4 / 5

Very interesting listen! Short and entertaining... Some big hits but some other very forgettable! I would day something like 3. 5/5 but definitly on the strong side

Kind of hard to rate this since it’s a collab of old standards but man this goes hard for a Christmas album.

Best track(s): the rest I think? Worst track(s): Parade Of The Wooden Soldiers I mean, this album consists of christmas songs and I'm listening to it in the middle of january.. but these were the good christmas songs and I didn't really mind. It's a good record and I might listen to it again next christmas time.

Pareceu-me um belo registro histórico.

Åpnet dette albumet i januar, men tilfeldigvis den juleplaten jeg har spilt mest de siste tre årene. Passe oppstemt uten å være travelt.

I did not know about Phil Spector or the "Wall of Sound" before listening to this. Setting aside the fact that this is a compilation of some of the most cheerful, fluffy, and earwormy Christmas carols, I must say that the musicians are excellent and the production is super cool/good. After this album, I listened to some other Phil Spector-produced music and his style is really distinctive and cool. Unfortunately it sounds like he was plagued by mental illness, traumatic head injury, and was probably a murderer. But I can see why this album is on the list and I learned something new to boot. 4/5 for great production and musicians. I can't give it 5 just because - oof, christmas carols!

Classic Christmas album

Great record, it’s Christmas Day I’m not gonna write notes. P.S. if this is completely random, what a coincidence I got this album today!

Bad dude, decent for a Christmas album
