Extraordinary. Powerful and exciting. A classic live album.
how blue can you get?
I loved it. It was really fun, fun fun and dynamic. I love it.
It feels like an incomplete recording with the introduction in the middle of the album. But the blues guitar lines are legendary — and I’m not even huge into BB King.
wel gewoon gezellig
ik moet eigenlijk meer live opnames gaan luisteren, ik ken Tiny Desks natuurlijk al maar ook bijv. Kelela's blue note album is goeiee. Verder was dit album gewoon beetje oude blues rock maar echt goede stem en goede band dus was leuk
I listened part way. It had a lot of energy and was good I think with all the horn parts and the blues songs, but I think I’m just not too into the blues stuff as others
Killer album by B.B. His band is tight and cooking. His guitar lines are minimal and brilliant. This iteration of his band is, to me, more soulful than his later, more popular work. He and his band seem to be working harder and finding a more intense groove.
Liked it!! V groovy
There's a vignette in a movie called A Night on Earth where there Finnish guys have gotten drunk and one is passed out. A cab driver picks them up and is told by the other two how it was the worst day of the passed out friends life and why. The cab driver then effectively goes that's nothing and tells a really depressing tale and they are full of empathy for him. The blues feels like that. Oh man I'm so down you can't know. I'm so down no man has ever been lower. That's why this being live is fantastic. You can feel everyone leaning in and being part of it. This almost feels like a room sharing a story vs just a set of songs. At one point he goes I'd like to tell you a little story if that's okay, and one guy just goes okay. It's perfect in that moment
8/10 good vibes the whole time
Blues seviyorum glb aaa
Who knew the blues could be this fun!
Great album. Talented guy.
Really great. What an incredible voice. What an iconic guitar player. Even the unnecessary ‘big band’ vibe can’t ruin just how good this is.
Amazing live performance
7/10
Great collection of songs and as always a lesson for guitar artistry from one of the masters playing live in peak form
50’s Blues ⭐️Worry, Worry
blues is mostly a new genre for me, but I found this album pretty good. The lyrics have a poetic tone, and I love that about it.
not my fav genre but omg the vocals ??
• This should be a fun listen • I loved the segway between Sweet Little Angel and It's My Own Fault • At first I thought it was strange that You Upset Me Baby also starts with an introduction for B.B. King, but it's smart to as a way to signpost the start the second side of the vinyl • This album is classic blues at its finest Favourite song: Please Love Me
Pure soul
Excellent live album, hit all the best bits of my favourite things about the blues, great solos and a band just having the time of their life
This would be fun to attend!
Smoove
lyrics are so good, blues music just hits different
Outstanding honestly
Good album, a genius at work
A blues classic. I loved hearing the crowd cheering in the background. - Heard before? I already knew a few of the songs, but have never heard the entire album. - Will I listen again? Likely. - Does it inspire me to listen to more of this artist? Maybe, but it definitely inspires me to explore other blues artists and sub-genres.
Trying to find a blues album that isn't super samey has been a real challenge. So has been trying to find a live album that is both immersive and actually adds something to the music that the studio versions don't. For the most part, B.B. King's Live at the Regal is an answer to both of those struggles! King's generational voice and wicked backing band, paired with memorable audience reactions (see "How Blue Can You Get?" for some great ones) make this one an absolute must-listen, even if blues isn't your thing. You really feel like you're there in that moment, with a drink in your hand and the scent of smoke in the air. There is a hint of redundancy from track to track, but I honestly think this is about as much variety as an artist can possibly muster while still keeping everything in the realm of blues. The bigger issue I had was that the track-to-track transitions kind of take a nosedive after "Please Love Me." I get why there's a fade out halfway through the tracklist (for vinyl-flipping purposes), but what's up with the weird cuts between "Worry, Worry," "Woke up This Morning" and "You Done Lost Your Good Thing Now"? I'm sure there's a valid explanation, but those moments definitely broke the illusion of experiencing a real live show a few times. Highlights: Every Day I Have the Blues, Sweet Little Angel, It's My Own Fault, How Blue Can You Get, Please Love Me, You Upset Me Baby, Help the Poor
4.0 stars Just a fun album. need to listen to more music like this. Favorite song: How Blue Can You Get?
i rly like bb king, but jst like sam cooke of course the first album it gives me by him is a live album, i don’t rly like live albums but i still enjoyed this
Makes me feel lively and awake. Feels like it should be playing on a record player.
A captivating display of blues, from a really tight blues band along the showman BB King. They play so well it sounds something like a studio version. The involvement with the crowd & how the album flows sounds like it’s from a Hollywood film that been shot 100 times, it’s absolutely perfect. I enjoy how at some points they interact by complete silence & then meet the bands highs with cheers & whistles when necessary. He really had them wrapped round his little finger. It must’ve been an absolute privilege to see BB King live in the flesh, I do wonder if those viewing knew they were witnessing history. This has definitely been a great introduction for me to BB King & I will be sure to check out more albums coming up. Listening to his guitar playing the way it does, with the horns following his lead is something everyone should experience. Favourite tracks are: ‘How Blues Can You Get?’, ‘Please Love Me’, and ‘Worry, Worry’, as the piano is outstanding.
Pure vibes no notes
I am an absolute blues novice, but I found myself really enjoying this. One of the few live records I’ve heard that really captured the energy and enthusiasm of the crowd. Despite my lack of knowledge, it’s easy to hear what a profound influence BB King had on generations of musicians who followed him.
bom pra carai guitarras mais reconhecíveis da história btw, dá pra saber que é o bb na primeira nota pprt
BLUEZÃO NERVOSO altíssima qualidade, bem bacana e elétrico. showzão da porra, hein. gostei muito!!
Some of the best blues I've had the pleasure of listening to. I especially love the higher energy tracks. An excellent musical genre and musician for a live album. The live setting brings life to what could potentially sound stale in a studio recording, and also highlights the skill of the band.
27/12/2025 It was enjoyable and quick paced, as I expected. Spotify listeners: 3.2 million
You can really feel the energy of the crowd on some of the tracks (Worry, Worry being a stand out for me). He really does sing the fuck out of some blues.
Out of all the old Blues legends, B.B. King seems to be the most famous. Could partially be because of his longevity, but still. He doesn't really play that fast, but there's a lot of feel in his guitar playing. The entire band is infectious and energetic and the entire thing is quite nice to listen to. It's not the most extreme live Blues album, but it's one of the earliest and still a fun listen.
A very well produced blues live record. Songs sound so good and the feel is nice throughout. His management of the audience and way of singing makes this a great album to listen to. Absolutely recommended.
"I bought you a ten dollar dinner, and you called it a snack." Less controversial sixty years later. I'm not really a huge fan jazz, the musicians and singer are incredibly talented though and it's one of the most enjoyable live albums that I've gotten to listen to, the crowds participation is fun.
Great guitar, melodic
Live album not my favorite but still a very nice album!
Very good album. I own this on vinyl. Nobody sounds like B.B. King
Electrifying! I love albums like this to hear the reactions of the crowd but also the chance to get to learn more about blues legends.
I love the blues, gimme more
Great music, questionable lyrics at times, but lots of fun
unmatched! there's nobody like the King
How blue can you get is a tune. Very samey though... (its all the blues....) High 7s/10
Enjoyable! Great to hear a young B.B. King.
Really intresting album good music will listin to the artist again heard of B.B king but this made me chek him out.
Hearing this live must have been a dream
I hope this list isn’t mostly live albums … BUT if it’s this is the standard. King speaks to the audience a lot and the songs tell a story through out the concert. You can picture yourself there and apart of the audience.
Hrífur mig með
Love this album, have it on constant rotation.
First time listening to blues I really liked it. Live aspect was nice, great performer.
Oh I needed this in my life.
12/8/25 Total listens: ~5 1st listen notes: Good, would prob really like it with repeat listens; Liked "Woke Up This Mornin'" immediately Overall notes: Good introduction to blues, book blurb mentioned this was an example of him being a consummate performer & I can see that in this live recording
An actual classy short live album.
в целом неплохо для нового жанра в моей аудиотеке Но не мое😂
I love blues, and this is the king so all is well. There’s something even better about a live performance which elevates the blues, but not really knowing his back catalogue, I hope there are some studio albums on the list too.
Yass king
Really enjoyed this one. The way BB held the crowd, the booting and hollering, the quality of the singing all just fabulous.
The blues, when the blues was exciting and had emotion. Loved this.
Great album. Lots of soul, lots of blues, I loved the electric guitar and BB Kings voice.
as good as a full blues album can get
Regal blues by one of the masters
Nice one to play late with a bourbon. Great recording of that guitar, band and vocals considering it’s a live album. Like the pace of the first couple. How Blue Can You Get into Please Love Me - great. A bit of big band and jazz feel in parts as well as proper classic R&B. Good energy, easy listening without being easy listening. Had to go 4 as 3 would be way too close to Queen.
Not sure I had ever played a live album before this Odyssey that wasn't playing to convicts or umm not plugged in. Starting to think a good live album is one that makes you wish that you were in the audience, so success here.
A solid reminder how blues is the basis of all rock music.
Solid blues!
What an absolute class act. "Don't beat yer woman" he says, then proceeds to pummel every woman in the club senseless with his whisky voice. "I like to play a little" he mutters, as he begins to shred the everloving fuck out of the guitar. Maybe the best blues album I'll ever hear, and there's nothing in particular about it that's special, except for the King of course.
I didn't twig to B.B. King until the 70's and am happy to hear his music from an earlier era. Very good stuff, and presented live. I can hear the roots of Santana here and can only imagine that this had a pervasive reach.
Killer blues album by the best blues man. Great recording of the master. Would've been fun to be at The Regal for a night of BB and the blues.
4.2/maybe i need to listen to more blues?
Just when this list was starting to wear me down with mediocre after mediocre album, that I am going to quickly forget after listening ... its brings you back in with something like BB King! I only wish the album was one complete performance. The highlight was how clearly you can hear the crowd as if they are reacting to a preacher.
Really enjoyed this. Great music and really nice singing.
A live album that sounds like love and care was put into recording it. Competent sound engineering! Finally! All instruments crisp and clear. The audience noise adds to the vibe without creating a muddy mess of the audio. I feel like all of the live recordings offered to me on this list thus far have been a pain to listen to. Not my style of music, but I’m rating it a 4 for that fact alone. Lively. I may not have the Blues, but I enjoyed this a lot.
I have decided that I don’t listen to the blues enough, I enjoyed it a lot and the people there sound like they were having the best time. Brilliant!
Amazing! Uno de los primeros álbumes que me enseño el Miquel ❤️
Classic blues done by the master , Simple as that , the songs just flowed and sat so nicely in the air the time went and you relaxed and immersed in the quality of the sounds
Still got it
Love this live album, it has every good about a live performance. All songs are bangers too 4.2
Ist natürlich wenig variationsreich, aber das kann man traditionellem Blues mMn nicht anlasten. Vor allem die langsamen Songs haben es mir angetan.
Absolut geiles Teil, macht nur Spaß beim Zuhören
This feels like a best in class album, more a representative of the top class of a music genre rather than particular artistic brilliance. The genre here is big band blues, led by a confident, experienced singer. Overall good stuff. What’s missing for me is more guitar. I think King’s guitar playing is his best asset, and here it’s more of a garnish than a main course.
Nice to have on in the background. Some of the lyrics are kind of... regressive?
Classic BB.
You seriously cannot go wrong with Blues music. It simply makes any day better
Now, I won't be the first person to admit that there are genres more "interesting" than blues. Blues might be one of my least-thought-about genres for me personally. That doesn't mean I think negatively about it, it just means that I don't think about it very often. However, I know that blues can be really cool. You just have to listen to the work of a master... or perhaps, a King? Yeah, there's a reason why B.B. King is often called the King of Blues, and it's not just because of his name. This live performance at the Regal paints a very positive picture of this man and his music. because this is some good stuff right here. The name of the game here is balance. There is not a single thing in this album that's focused on "too much." The live setting doesn't distract from the music too much and actually adds quite a bit of atmosphere. Like, damn. These girls are really excited to see B.B. King do his thing. King does talk to the audience a good deal, but he does it pretty well. He's funny at times and, as far as I can tell, pretty charismatic. He even tells the men in the audience NOT to hit women! Now that's "king shit" if I've heard it. This album's actually aged quite well overall. Although most of these are love songs, particularly those pertaining to relationship struggles, but I didn't get any semblance of misogyny or predatory behavior from these songs, which by 60s standards is pretty good. The album also sounds great for a live album from the 60s. And of course, I have to praise the musicianship. B.B. King's guitar isn't always the focus of the album, but when you hear it, it's quite great. His guitar style is super cool. The horns and other backing instruments are quite enjoyable to listen to as well, as is King's singing. I'm impressed. This is probably the best full-on blues album I've gotten from this whole project. It's still not my favorite thing in the world, but I had a good time with this. Light 4/5.
serendipitous i get my first blues album a few days ago and then 1001 sees fit to give me what most consider to be the greatest blues live album ever recorded. safe to say i'm starting to understand what everyone has been on about with this blues music... have to agree with others that the crowd's enthusiasm is infectious. it's honestly nice to hear people having a good time, which is enough to merit this live album being "worth it" in my estimation of live albums, because it's SOMETHING interesting aside from the music itself. anyhow - i was being flippant earlier but to repeat what i said and be genuine this time: i understand what's special about the blues now. while i don't think this is the precedent for my conversion to the genre, i feel really positive about this album in particular and i'm honestly glad i got a chance to listen to it because it's SUCH a treat to listen to. great stuff!! highlights - sweet little angel, it's my own fault, how blue can you get?, worry, worry, you done lost a good thing now, help the poor
B. B. King on tullut nähtyä joskus livenä. Sympaattinen Blues-ukko. Levyäkin on hyllyssä ja tullut kuunneltua ennenkin. Tämä live on tiukkaa soitantaa ja kuitenkin erittäin letkeää. Tykkäsin!
love the way he plays the electric and his voice is spectacular
At first I was skeptical of this album for the fact that it is both blues and live. I was wrong! B.B. King and the band are amazing at working a crowd. Their interactions with each other lends itself more to a conversation rather than a show. The album is lively, funky, and fun. Great listen
Bringing the blues back to the mainstream hinged on this album. A real sparkler that crossed over to grab a share of the non-traditional blues listener. Play loud and feel the spirit.
Legend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Nyt oli kyllä Bluesin on ramp -kurssi parhaimmillaan!
I wouldn't say I'm a huge blues fan but I love it when it's done well, and there aren't many better than BB King. Just through listening to this live album (60 years after it happened) it's like a time capsule. I can picture BB and his band in an intimate venue (sounds intimate to me) just effortlessly hitting everything on point. BB's voice is incredible and when he wants to shout man is it effective, and LOUD. He has a natural charisma and is just a born entertainer. How Blue Can You Get, Worry Worry, You Upset Me Baby are highlights for me.
So much feeling. While this is also a straight blues album, it just has so much more heft than the Fats Domino record. It may be partly due to the energy of the live audience, but it may just be because he really is the King of the Blues. Could have listened to another hour of this.
Damn the blues were cool
I get why they call him the best blues singer in the beginning because this is fire
these cats do have the blues
TOPPEN blues album, första gången jag typ lyssnat på B.B. King och blev glatt överraskad. Hans sång är typ bättre än gitarrspelet? Vilken gud. Har en känsla av att jag gillar det här mer än en viss annan person... ;)
B.B. King is one of the great Blues Artists of All Time. What made his music so good was it was very personal. He also knew how to balance the Delta with Chicago electric and blend in some pop as well. This live album is a great example of why he was doing up to 260 shows a year all the way up until he died there’s a lot of energy here. One of my favorite tracks was How Blue Can You Get? But in truth, my favorite part of this album was the interplay he had with the audience, especially in the song, Woke Up This Morning, where he talks to both men and women about how to treat each other. Maybe he wouldn’t have had so many children if you would’ve taken to his own advice. But Mr. Blues Boy King, you’re still the Man. RIP.
Random thoughts: * I've had this one on CD for awhile. I think I purchased it when I got the other book called "1,000 Recordings to To Hear Before you Die". * I will always remember my friend, Brian Libby, quoting "How Blue Can you Get" to me the day BB King died. I don't think I yet knew the song the way I do know. * Listen to those screams when he sings "I gave you seven children and now you want to give them back". Crazy crowd reaction. Chills. I think BB King did alright with the ladies. That is an absolutely astounding reaction to be captured on record. * Also, "How Blue Can You Get" is sampled on Primitive Radio Gods' "Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth With Money in My Hand". I remember this kind of blowing my mind when I made the connection. * This is one that definitely should be on 1001
Pure talent
★★★★½
Listening to this I’m transported to a 65’ Blues club in Chicago in my head even though I’ve never been anywhere near anywhere like that. I’m was born in 99 in the North West of the UK haha. The musicianship on display decorated with his exceptional vocals of pure emotion just engulfs you. Great record.
BB deliver great music, audience banter and overall solid live performance. Good stuff.
I ascended at the end of ‘Worry, worry’
This is one of these albums where the talent is immense, but it just isn't for me. The music and the voice are incredible. Highlights include Sweet Little Angel. Out of talent alone, I have to give it a 4 out of 5, even if I probably won't listen to it in full again.
Highlight Song/s: How Blue Can You Get? B.B. King seems like a really charming fellow just by the way he talks. It kind of gives me the impression that he's narrating the album alongside singing the songs and playing the parts. Love the comedy in the songs, wasn't expecting for it to be that light-hearted. Solid guitar lines, no wonder all those 60s British guitar players who were obsessed with the blues and took a bunch of riffs; I probably would steal some as well if I WAS a 60s British guitar player. Anyway, I think that at least the racist ones ought to pay up. Eric Clapton... I quite liked the album, the charisma of B.B. King is so far unmatched in the limited amount of live albums I've heard.
3.5/5
At first, this may appear to be a collection of compellingly performed Blues standards, but I know know that most of the value of this record is in B.B. King's triumph of performance. This captures the magnetism of B.B. King as a performer, entertainer and even storyteller in a way that I'm not sure I've heard from another live album. Even the crowd noise reflects this, they are going *insane*, King clearly has them eating out of the palm of his hand. And I think his incredible musical performances are only half of it, the stage banter and chemistry on display here does so much for this album. I think this is best exemplified through the first 4 songs on Side A. King spends what would have been dead air between songs connecting the themes of the pieces, segueing, and addressing the audience. All while his band vamps, ready to hop in at a moment's notice. Honestly, this run kind of plays like a singular song. It really showcases how he uses the concert as its own art-form, with it's own, unique capacity for storytelling. Aside from his performance here, the selection of songs is great. A touch same-y, but he makes it work anyways. And it helps that the last track, Help The Poor, is one of the most unique pieces here. I don't listen to a ton of blues, and it's a genre that's kind of hit or miss when I *do* check it out, but B.B. King sells these songs like no other could, creating a truly great live album in the process.
Voor mijn gevoel al erg veel jazzy live albums gehad. Deze vond ik wel erg leuk, iets meer swingy met een meeslepende stem. Ik had eigenlijk meer willen horen dan de slechts 35 minuten die we gekregen hebben!
This is not something I’d normally listen to but it’s fun and would be a cool record to play if I’m trying to impress someone with my knowledge of the blues
8/10
Wow, quite something to have a live album with so much acclaim! Very interested to listen to this… Such heart and vibrancy. The live crowd just adds to that and such a strong and heartfelt voice too. Beautiful combination. Also love the interaction with the crowd. The spirit and fun in it all. Great energy and the whole thing just has a beautiful communal flow to it all ❤️ great vibes
Yeah this is great. I like that it's live and just a beautiful set of live blues from one of the masters of the genre.
Pretty great blues. Crowd is amazing
Fucking kicked ass. Such an expressive guitar player. The band ruled too
*Ready for bed, but I think, "I wonder what the album is tomorrow?", then "Okay, maybe I should have a Sazerac and chill for a minute first." One of the most iconic blues artists playing seminal tunes live, amazing! The fact that I had to dig to find it makes it even more special. This is a piece of music history.
this guy had a looooot of problems with women. but album is nice.
A groovy listen and a good time.
Blues as it should be. Brass be brassin'. Swing for days. Great guitar playing and tone, BB really brings the energy on this.
Superb album, though his live show from a jail was better
Oooo blues, a genre I’m not too familiar with but always enjoy. Guitar tone is hypnotic. I wish my guitar had that sound, not typically a fan of live plays but enjoying the crowd of this one He has a powerful voice that hooks you It’s a style of blues that feels so approachable and makes you want to croon with him Will admit I blinked and missed like half of it. But my refusal to restart will just be a caveat.
Erster Gedanke: Oh noooo...Blues. Aber BB ist der King...die Legende. Soo guter Vibe, nackte Seele, love in pain in eternity!
findi easy
Gfallt mir mega. De typ het halt so die Südstaate-Sympathie. Liebs wiener bi jedem Track so no was seit vowege “lets go back to blabla“. Ish halt au es Live-Album wan ich ned so fühl, ish aber überhaupt ned störend und addet nomol chli meh flair. S'gekreische müesst ned si aber die wo “Right on“ ine rüefed findi fun. Stand out tracks: It's My Own Fault, How Blue can you get & You Upset Me Baby. So Groovy, So unapologetically Black – love it
really solid album. there's a reason bb king is in the inner circle of electric blues musicians. to hear him live in his element is really cool. i just wish the crop of tracks here interested me more. they're not bad! they're good! i just wish i my socks were blown off a lot more than they actually were.
Solid blues. Surprising falsetto! Great album
Just somg good old Blues. Electric guitars bringing it upto date with the time. B.B. King sounds amazing with that gravel in his voice and hitting those high notes effortlessly. The live dynamics with backing vocals mixed with stage banter add some more flavour to this record. Boring today for many but surely a high point in Blues at the time.
There's something about old live albums that I love. I think it's just how well they flow. Is B.B. King Live At The Regal is the most important album for people to hear? Probably not, but I still enjoyed listening to it. Best Songs: How Blue Can You Get?, Help The Poor Worst Songs: Woke Up This Mornin'
Great live album. It’s B.B. King I don’t know what else to say. Surprisingly short if this was the length of his actual concerts.
Cool ✌️
This was fun and good. I saved "Every Day I Have The Blues" and "How Blue Can You Get?".
Really good blues album. The guitar work is some of the best, it's amazing to think that this was recorded live because it seems perfect. I really enjoyed this one and have added it to my favorites.
This album more than anything else I've ever listened to made me viscerally aware of how every twelve-bar blues song is actually just the exact same song. However. The stage presence and charisma of this man was enough to make thirty-five minutes of it before a live audience compelling all the way through anyway. I'd even take another half an hour if it was on offer. Bonus points also for the Chicago mention
At first, I thought that they were piping in the crowd noise on Live At The Regal. No one could possibly be this excited about blues. However, Mr. Riley "Blues Boy" King delivers a bluesy, jazzy, even rocking show. Did you know that he had two marriages that did not produce any kids, but that he possibly fathered up to 18 children? Baller.
King!
Who knew BB had such a good voice? Nothing he plays is that complex but somehow sounds perfect. As will most blues around this time setlist fatigue is a problem, most of the songs blur into one, but enjoyed the flowing nature of the set. Good stuff
Thirty-five minutes of a live show barely scratch the surface of B.B. King's catalog and breadth of influence. Please, sir, can I have some more?
WAHOO!! they don't make music like this any more!
It's a fun live blues album. It's not perfect - as it is hard for a live album to do that. However, it was a good listen and it was able to grab and keep my attention.
That's a good show!
What in the hell is a regal? 4/5
Day 47 First time hearing this album, incredible vibe from the crowd. Great voice and guitar playing, the short play time flew by. 8/10 Highlights It’s my own fault You done lost your good thing Help the poor
Can't argue with BB King - phenomenal voice and guitar playing!
All live albums should include whooping and hollering from the crowd
Are you kidding me, B.B. King playing the Blues, there is nothing better than this.
This was fun and upbeat, something you don’t always expect to say about the blues. I loved King’s little dialogues to the audience and the crowd seemed like it was absolutely buzzing! It’s pretty good!
It's rare for a live album to capture the energy and vibrancy of a musician's performance. B.B. King's Live at the Regal puts you in the audience and adding some of your own applause before you realize you're at work and Janice from HR is standing at your desk. 4/5
Great live album! Upbeat and fun.
This live album starts off super strong, even from before the moment BB King steps on the stage. It keeps on hard from the beginning and doesn't disappoint. 4/5
No complaints in this one. Energy throughout
Legend shit
Damn B.B. could make Lucille sing. Love this recording. A legend captured live with a great backing band.
Great stuff.
Sympa !!
Catchier than what I was expecting
Really enjoyed Worry, Worry.
himas joskus illasta
B.B. the King! A wonderful live set, with his fabulous voice and band. Deep, weary, sexy blues. Amazing that a 60-year-old record can make me blush.
B.B. King nahm Live At The Regal am 21. Bekannte Stücke des Albums sind „Every Day I Have the Blues“, „Sweet Little Angel“, „How Blue Can You Get“ und „You Done Lost Your Good Thing Now“.
Album 892 of 1089 B.B. King - Live At The Regal (1965) Rating : 4 / 5 King is a legend, and this album is legendary, so I knew I was in for a great listen. The only negative I can point to is that I wanted more of his flawless guitar playing. It’s there, sprinkled throughout, but I could have happily listened to him stretch out even more. That said, the overall performance was a joy to hear. I’m usually not one for live albums, but I really enjoyed the way his banter with the audience gave the whole thing so much character. You can feel the atmosphere coming through in the recording. A great album, and one I’d recommend to anybody curious about the blues or wanting to hear a true legend at work.
Amazing live performances. High energy from a band clearly having a lot of fun.
Beautiful music! "How Blue Can You Get?" is my personal favorite. My only point of criticism is, that the lyrics haven't aged greatly, but I think that's forgivable considering the time of it's release.
Love me some BB King, especially at his peak. Now while I think Cook County is the better live album, this one still kicks ass
they just don't make em like they used to
Good but uninspiring personally. 1 extra star for bb’s general vibe.
This man can sing. Probably leaning toward 3.5 but upped to 4
Live at the Regal captures B.B. King in his element, feeding off the energy of a Chicago crowd and delivering a masterclass in live blues performance. His guitar tone is razor sharp, each note from Lucille cutting through the room with precision, while his vocals are full of warmth and urgency. Songs like “Every Day I Have the Blues” and “Sweet Little Angel” show the perfect balance between his smooth delivery and fiery playing, and the call-and-response moments with the audience add to the electric atmosphere. What makes the album stand out is not just the technical skill but the sheer charisma on display. B.B. King makes the blues feel alive, immediate, and deeply personal, even in a crowded theater. The recording has a rawness that puts you right in the room, hearing the cheers and the shouts as much a part of the music as the guitar. Live at the Regal is more than just a concert document, it is proof of why B.B. King became one of the most important figures in the blues.
85% Best: Sweet Little Angel; Please Love Me; Worry, Worry; You Done Lost Your Good Thing Now Must-Hear? Sure
Great album. The one thing that does stick out for me is how practiced his stage presence was. Consistent across live albums and the times I saw him live.
This was a good album. The best part was discovering that Primitive Radio Gods had sampled How Blue Can You Get? from here for their "Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth with Money in My Hand." LOL What a long ass name for that song. But yeah the "I've been downhearted baby, Ever since the day we met" Was from here! So cool. Anyways. Love me some good blues. 4 stars.
We love a good live blues album, and this is the best one.
Fun album! all the songs lead into each other quite well, and have great tunes. A very classic sort of blues album, Live At The Regal really does feel like an intimate soiree with B.B. King. I could well see myself getting lost in this album at a barbecue kicking back or at a late night musing of my own with friends over a hand of poker or game of pool. Great ambience. Favorite track was Help The Poor.
The energy was undeniable, and I loved how B.B. King’s voice and guitar felt like a duo in constant conversation.
Really good old school barber shop music
B. B. King has an amazing voice and stage presence. I like the audience participation in the beginning of the album. It got a bit draining toward the midpoint because blues songs all have very similar structures. But still impressive. 4/5
Really great stuff.
I have never been a big fan of BB King but this was an interesting listen. It was nice to hear his younger, more supple voice. His guitar tone and phrasing is, as expected, excellent. The song themselves are solid but not spectacular. 3.5
It's great if electric blues is your thing, which it isn't really for me.
Class, 4 Star
BB king is a classic! Really like his guitar and his singing, but for whatever reason, the larger band blues doesn’t always do it for me - it ends up feeling a little too polished, weirdly.
This was surprisingly fun! It shows BB as a skilled and confident performer, at the top of his game. Being a live album, the songs are accented by the audience's reactions. BB knows how to make the ladies scream!
Very good album
I may never heard any blues album other than this, but I can still say this is the peak of blues. When I saw the name B. B. King I thought it's gonna go in a similar spirit like this guy Elvis Costello (you know, like the times long past would be blasting out of it and I would have to act like I like it because it's the big B. B. King [with all respect]) but damn I was wrong! He's the only guy who could yell straight into my ear and I wouldn't be mad, maybe because I would be deaf in a minute but that doesn't matter. The Bluest voice I can imagine, I had an urge to scream with him. The only song that I don't like that much is Every Day I Have The Blues, but except of this one, everything else was sometimes even entertaining, like I was genuenly curious on what's going to happen. Favourite song - It's my own fault
I loved this, listening to this live was so special
I know blues about as well as I know jazz. Pretty good, dinged down because I don't think I'll come back here save for background music when I'm cooking or something. Fun album, though - live element really adds to the whole thing. Once again, preferring the live albums on this list.
I asked my baby for a nickel
Now, I may not be fully objective here as I have a vested interest in this man and all he has done for blues music. He truly is one of the best musicians ever, and I cannot believe I did not see him at Byron Bay Blues festival in 2011. I should've had better music taste at 9 years old. This all being said, it is not my favourite album of his. The blues/jazz cross-over becomes conflicting for my ears when it starts sounding like a holiday Christmas album. The live element is fun, and the energy is palpable. I don't think the audience at The Regal in 1965 fully understood how good they had it. All I can get in Brisbane is lacklustre punk band with smelly dudes in their late 20s playing at 7pm on a Friday night at Tomcat. Still an awesome album. As it often goes with blues, some songs feel repetitive, some lyrics a bit too whiny. Like, in It's My Own Fault, the song goes on and on about how he did not treat her right: 'She used to make her own paychecks and bring them all home to me' I would go out and cheat on her blah blah blah. I love this theme in blues music. Men wallowing about how shit they are but then continue to drink and drown in their own self-pity. How blue can you be is probably my favourite song. Unbelievably raw and gutteral. His voice is so beautiful. Midway through the album it reminded me of why I love the blues so much, despite its sometimes rudimentary chord progressions, it truly is one of the most interesting, and historically significant genres. Thank you B.B.
Blues at the highest level. I don’t always love live albums, but there is something very special about B.B. King in front of an audience
Even knowing who he was I had somehow never listened to any BB King, this was great and unusually for me really liked that it was a live recording
I loved how interactive with the crowd this was. Good sound.
This is blues at its absolute best. Raw, alive, and smooth as fuck. Live at the Regal captures B.B. King in full command — not just of his band, but of the entire damn room. It’s the kind of record that makes you understand why Clapton, Mayer, and Knopfler all bowed at his feet. Lucille sings, the crowd roars, and you’re right there in the thick of it. Not a wasted note can be heard here.
Saw the great one at his club in Manhattan. This album does not disappoint
An incredible display of talent and admiration for the craft. This was well worth every second of listening.
Solid classic Blues
I think this is my first live album. I feel like blues gets a little repetitive by design, but the screaming fans really enhance the music, you can feel the energy of the performance. Great vocals, fun guitar
OK. Fun, energy an everything you'd expect. No surprises.
Obviously great
This is a great album, although it is live, and B.B. King's guitar makes everything sound great. Overall, very nice experience, especially if you just leave it in the background, as it can even help turn a solo meal into a fancy jazzy restaurant experience.
So good clearly very iconic
The live atmosphere, the guitar, the horns, the wailing. They all work together really well. Help the poor.
buen disco de blues. no se nota el paso del tiempo
Just finishing it up now. Very clean recording of some pretty raw and energetic blues performances. Sure, lyrically there's not much to chew on but BB didn't write them: he knows his crowd well and that's more then enough
C;lassic live blues record. Great album.
Many blues listeners consider this the greatest live album. I do like it. BB is a master performer and entertainer. This is high energy, and his playing is at that crossroads between proficient and still exciting. I stop short of 5 because I find BB to be more about showing the blues rather than letting everyone feel it.
Classic
Starts and ends well, little repetitive in the middle. Solid voice and guitar nonetheless.
BB being classic BB
Wonderful album, the sound of the audience is really elevating it. However, I think his live performance at the cook county jail is just a little bit better.
osjecam se uzasno al meni to sve isto zvuci bolje nego u2 u svakom slucaju
I feel like this project has given me an impulse reaction to dismiss any live album that pops up for me. I’d rather just get a studio album, as opposed to a recording of some random performance that some producers thought was good enough to slap onto a record and sell. This one, however, was an exception. Given it’s a blues live album, I’ll admit that a lot of this can be a bit repetitive. But given the short runtime of this album, it’s not that bad. It’s also B.B. King. The sheer energy he had was one of a kind. I understand now why he’s considered a legend. Even the crowd here could sense it. They were going ballistic for almost the whole thing. This is one of the few albums that justifies being live. It really feels like a moment where “you just had to be there”. Favorite track: Sweet Little Angel Other hits: It’s My Own Fault, You Upset Me Baby, Help the Poor, How Blue Can You Get?
Don’t love blues albums, but this was pretty good. 3, but giving it an extra .5 for brevity. Rounding up to 4.
I enjoyed it
He was the King
BB King is a blues legend. He is the epitome of less is more and plays the guitar with a soul like no other.
Whilst this list might be pretty inconsistent on most days, every live album I've had - my 4th now I think - has been a great experience. Getting this bit right for sure.
Type of music that would make vampires want to break into a juke joint
BB is a cut above the rest
This guy plays the guitar pretty well
Overall: 7/10 This is a really fun album. The blues is ironically very upbeat at times and when it comes to this album specifically, I actually enjoy the live atmosphere compared to other live albums. It adds a lot to songs I haven't heard before. B.B. King is a great singer and guitarist. Fav Song: Worry, Worry Least Fav Song: Woke Up This Mornin'
nice old classic blues (as well as I believe the first live album I've reviewed) and it has some surprisingly funny lyrics. "I bought you a ten dollar dinner, and you said 'thanks for the snack'" favorite song: "how blue can you get?" overall: 7/10
Great album love bb king.
The album I received yesterday was The Black Crowes' SHAKE YOUR MONEYMAKER. It was a samey blues album that I gave a 3 because when it was released in 1990 it didn't really add any new elements to the blues. This live album was fantastic for all the reasons that The Black Crowes album was not. This album feels vital. You can feel the energy of the moment between B.B. King's band and the audience. Not every blues song sounds the same and the solos are fantastic, never too indulgent. Even the album length, at 35 minutes, is the perfect amount to whet your appetite but not burst your belly.
Timeless blues classic. King's vocal performances are some of the best I've heard. There's something special about live albums from this era. Not something I'll obsess over, but an experience I enjoyed nonetheless. Favorite Tracks: Everyday I Have the Blues; Sweet Little Angel; Please Love Me; Worry, Worry; Help the Poor
Great performance from an obvious legend. Could be longer though; I kind of doubt that the concert itself was only 35 minutes long
A truly exceptional album from a legend of blues. Was sad when it ended and wish it was longer. The guitar is incredible and B.B.'s voice isn't too bad either. 8.5/10 (4.25/5)
I like his guitar playing and how he advocated against domestic abuse
B.B. King is a legend in not just blues but in music as a whole. It was great listening to a live recording of songs that I have listened to a lot before.
I like most every style of classic blues, but I generally gravitate the most towards the stripped-down Delta players or the dirtier Chess/Chicago sound. B.B. often lives in this slightly livelier style a la T-Bone Walker, and although I do genuinely like that style, it occasionally veers a bit too close to this sort of jump blues that doesn’t resonate as much with me. This particular album hints at that, but there are also quite a few highlights, even though I’ve historically preferred Live at Cook County Jail and his opening set from the deluxe edition of Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out. “How Blue Can You Get?” and “Worry, Worry” are probably my favorites, and his voice and playing are both in strong form throughout. 3.5/5
If I were a teen in the 60s, I’d probably be screaming too
A good album, I liked Sweet Little Angel and Please Love Me the most.
What a great live album! Totally swingin’, BB at his peak, great licks, an awesome backing band and it feels like you’re right there in the groove. Totally dig it! Faves are “please love me” and “how blue can you get”. Also what’s going with the start of “you upset me baby”. Why the re-intro and switch? Loses all momentum of the live sequencing.
Coming from a Rolling Stones album (Exile on Main Street) to this is like a breath of fresh air, even though nominally, this and the Stones aren't miles apart.
Classic live blues from one of the greats!
I’ve enjoyed BB’s blues in the past and this early BB is even better. The live jam session was impressive.
Kings voice is just *chefs kiss*
Very cool

Great Album.
not necessarily the biggest blues fan, but the musicians were amazing and the fact that this was a live album made it even better!
Great emotion and musical skill. Some great joking in there. Just a good time all around.
One of the greats, but it's still a live album. Does the screeching of girls add to YOUR listening experience?
This is indeed a great live album albeit a bit short!
4 While it is not my favorite live BB album (that would be 1971's searing "Live at Cook County Jail,) it is a brilliant document of BB leading a fever-pitch crowd from the stage. Side one is tremendous. "Help the Poor" is a good uplifting ending but I always want him to sail out like he does on 1969's "Live and Well" with "Why I Sing The Blues." [ALSO: there are several weird edits on the Spotify version. No deductions for that.]
Catchy and fun to listen to. Highlights: Everyday I Have the Blues, It’s My Own Fault.
it's just a pleasure to listen to them playing with so much joy!
Favorites: It's My Own Fault, How Blue Can You Get, Woke Up This Mornin' There's not much I can really say about this album, or live albums in general, because I feel like a lot of the substance would be felt better in person rather than a recording, so live album reviews will be a bit brief. With that aside, B.B. King is an outstanding vocalist, and the album really showcases that. Very pleasant experience. 7.5/10
Fantastic album! Then again, I like jazz and I was probably due a dosis. Great timing!
cool
bb blues
Wish it was looking nger
Great performances by King and his band.
Порой звучание интересное, но по большому счёту, пока не осознал в чём мощь этой концертной пластинки. С надеждой на лучшее понимание ставлю 6,5 из 10.
Nice
4/5 I don’t listen to a lot of blues, but, wow, the vocals and the instruments here are so powerful and pure. King’s voice is superb. And I love how the audience is just with the musicians every step of the way.
I thought it was cool and classic, but a bit boring while actively listening…until I zoned out. Spent an hour literally rocking and rolling in my seat. Awesome
Not usually big on live albums but damn what a night that must've been. That man could make a guitar sing and a stone get up and groove. Casual misogyny never went down so smooth.
Undeniably brilliant. He's feeling it, they're feeling it, I'm feeling it.
This album feels out of order, i thought it was great, but if it was BB King who designed this set list it really ain't it. Thankyou 1001 for introducing me to another awesome Soul and R&B album. Ain't got nothing on Cooke tho. 8/10
A live album that manages to capture the strengths of a live performance versus a studio recording. There is just enough noise from the crowd, ambient sounds of the venue, chatter from the artist and little flourishes of character from BB King. Naturally, as an artist, his influence cannot be understated as an absolute titan of Rock and Roll. To my fault, I have never been a proper afficionado of blues and for my sins I was lucky enough to receive this as a weekend album to really give it multiple listens. Coming away from four listens at various levels of attention-paying, there are two real standout songs on here for me. As far as live albums go, I can't fault this at all but I've certainly heard other ones on this list that floored me a lot more than this one. All in all, this is a hell of an album to polish off a bottle of red and eat some slowcooker carnitas to (oddly specific but this was my favourite of my four listens). Highlights: It's My Own Fault, You Done Lost Your Good Thing Now
Will probably appreciate this more on multiple listens. Pleasant - running out of adjectives to describe music with after 250 albums lol. High 70s, rounded up, although I couldn't pick one song out as a particular highlight. Read as one.
I havent listened to Jazz and blues reliably for about 15 years. Not sure why I dont typically listen to music like this but its top notch. When at university I did get immersed in some decent jazz / blues where I have to say personally its where the genre sets itself apart as its a live spectacle of musical mastery which you dont always get from "typical" music artists live. Great album and I need to spend some time on this for sure! Or better still find a live band to go see.
Yes! So cool
I don’t always love a live album but this was worth it. He’s very talented and his voice translates well to the live recording. All songs were good.
Gotta love the Blues and why yes he is the King!
Genre defining music
Guess I like blues now.
nice live album. i like the story he tells as he sings. i should listen to more similar live albums
I like hearing these dinosaur songs actually roam the earth as wild animals instead of the slick way blues is usually presented. It should be a strict prerequisite for blues jam participants to hear this version of "Everyday I Have the Blues" before they are allowed up there with their fedora and $2K guitar.
This is a great showcase for B.B. King as vocalist, bandleader, entertainer and especially guitarist. The drummer is tight and the band is funky. Live recordings to me are always hit or miss, but this one captures what sounds like a hell of a night, with a top-notch band and an enthusiastic audience. I for one would be happy to see more blues on this list.
A great sounding live album. Love that there is interstitial banter with the crowd on this one (something you don't often get on live albums). And TIL where Primitive Radio Gods got their "I've been downhearted baby" sample from.
This was such a solid blues album and honestly such a vibe! I would listen to this album again and would encourage others to check out B.B. King!
This seems like it would have been so much fun to see in the moment. It translates well on audio.
B.B. King really sings the shit out of this material
Great emotional blues, so much power and depth
El público se vuelve LOCOOOO :PPPPPPP. Entretenido, me gusta la fockin vibra
Another Live album oh boy! Every day, every day I have the live album blues from this website, nobody loves me, nobody seems to care. Album is actually a lot of fun, dude was hugely influential. King of the blues BB!
Classic
An excellent artifact capturing a performance of one the best to ever do it. Great Blues is excellent. Great recording.
Love it. Live BB King, what's not to love.
3.5
3.5
I do believe the the hype on this one. B.B. I think gives a fierce stellar performance, and his band really cooks. I absolutely dig the twin horn arrangement. (Coming from Memphis, I'm used to twin or trio brass arrangements with live full band blues). Honestly this pretty killer performance in my book. 9.55/10 ★★★★½
Somewhere between Martin Luther King and Burger King lies B.B. King, one of the true greats of blues guitaring during the 50s and 60s and whose lean, mean, cool, classy style was such an influence on the Stones, Eric Clapton and especially Peter Green who in fact became one of King’s favourite guitarists and the one who could give him ‘cold sweats’. So obviously the dude is of very sound immaculate taste and this here live album is indeed very tasty. Not home to any massive blues whoppers, I can’t actually name any one favourite track but it all has that general yummy moreish bluesy vibe that makes it a mighty fine background listen. Leanest of 4 stars.
Fun, short, jazzy
I actually really liked this. I loved the live vibe and the conversations between tracks. The sound is so crisp and makes me feel nostalgia for something I didn’t experience. I imagine what it must’ve been like to be in that crowd. No one holding up phones in a sad attempt to immortalize a moment meant to be beautiful and fleeting. For a moment, all these people were captured by the same thing.
