Not much wrong with this - although it's not stand out special
Very 60s live album. His voice and performance though is too good to call this "average". Man I love the blues.
Damn good live blues record. Excellent musicianship on display. Favorite songs were Sweet Little Angel, It’s My Own Fault, Worry, Worry, and You Done Lost Your Good Thing Now
It’s a classic BB King album that captures the mystique of his live shows.
Bien.
Doesn’t get much better than the king
4.5
If you want authentic chicago blues from a guitarist with a style as individual as they come then you won't go far wrong with BB King. And, whilst there is something initially annoying about the crowd hollering and playing a participatory role in the recording, there is something in the fact this is simply a press play and record live show. Its gotr the initmacy that makes you feel you are in the club itself. Excellent stuff and, whilst not ground breaking music, as honest and enjoyable document of the blues that you are likley to find.
Legend
Blues, Livemusik, aber es gibt andere Stücke von B. B. King, die mich mehr mitreißen.
Excellent album. You can practically w in the same room
Never really listened to blues properly and this is a masterclass - what a voice.
BB King is one of the best to ever do it, and this album shows it. I don't usually like live albums, but the crowd did enhance the experience as I believe blues, like jazz, is best experienced in a live setting. The blues isn't one of my favorite genres, but the influence of the genre on popular music is undeniable.
Excellent 4/5
ich bin au jede tag blau bb king, kein grund ahzgeh oeff luca hesch recht (mier chönnd ja eh eso mitenand kommuniziere, macht eh niemert suscht meh de scheiss), dass sie chli lisliger spielednund er churz öppis redt isch huere geil hahaha er chan schono spiele und singe d bläser hani au mega gern bi please love me hahaha danke für de relationship advice, sehr cuteSCHLAGZÜG DA ISCHE FUCKING VIERI
Great Blues album I may need to create a blues play list
Not the biggest fan of blues or live albums but the showmanship here is great. Only could’ve listened to an album of just his patter. Songs were good if repetitive.
3.75
a masterclass in blues. the girls screaming in the background is a bit much though
King of the blues.. awesome guitar player.. great album
Great record with good sound quality except sometime the balance on the audience seems a bit high. I guess that adds to the feeling of being there. But who else makes a guitar sound both bluesy and so clean at the same time? Amazing vocals too.
I really like some B.B. King and this album is very good. I found that the mix was a little weird, the crowd noise was too high at times. I want to hear the music, not the audience. The music is really good, though, and I will listen to this one again.
Excelente
I'm never thrilled to see a live album, but I as pleasantly surprised by this one. Great energy and live performance. The audience's enthusiasm was fun too. I don't really see myself revisiting it, but I enjoyed it more than I thought it would.
i'll preface this by saying i've never been much of a blues fan, but this album definitely has that certain something. most live albums, especially from this era, would make me run screaming, but the banter and crowd noises really just amp this up to the next level. b.b. king is a master of his instrument and the guitar comes through as another wailing, plaintive voice. it's all solid. favorites: every day i have the blues, sweet little angel, how blue can you get, you done lost your good thing now
Prolly would have given this a 3 if it weren’t for a recent trip to Memphis where I went to BB Kings to watch live music. Was a great experience.
Entertaining
Not a great fan of either blues nor life albums but this was surprisingly OK.
Very engaging! Not typically what I'd listen to but I am super happy I did. Favorite Song: How Blue Can You Get?
An icon and a legend.
A master at work.
B.B. King super kølig fyr! Aldrig hørt et album med ham før. Fungerede virkelig godt live
Som live-album hater er jeg nødt til at sige: det her var et pissegodt live album.
Man, what a beautiful guitar tone B.B. King has here in this live recording. Love It's My Own Fault into How Blue Can You Get? Vocals are so soulful and matched with the too-cool-for-you saxophone and sprinkled keys. Just extremely solid blues on display here. Mostly had this playing in the background, but it was really nice. Soulful blues music with damned solid guitar licks. I can't complain, but I also probably won't be back quickly... low 4.
Cool album. BB King is the man. Raw talent 4 stars
Love these live albums where you can hear the artists hamming it up with the audience. Really good music on top of this. It's easy to see why B.B. King is so revered. A real jumping album. Sounded like a real clam bake. Dude probably caught so much tail.
Some shreddin' and some absolute howlin' from our man BB. Love me some blues
Listening to this one early af as my flight to Vegas is at 6:30 am. Side note: Brandon remember when we sat next to each other on the long term parking bus at BWI at like 5 am? Shit was wild. Starts a little faster than I expected but then delves into more of what I was expecting with Swret Little Angel. Then a smooth af transition into Its My Own Fault. Loved when he was talking about what a sad guy was going to say and then went straight into a bluesy solo. Pretty solid album for walking through the airport. Lots of it reminded me of Stormy Monday. Easy listening.
Really good music and a classic.
I've never been a fan of live albums, but this one might have sold me. B.B. King worked the crowd really well along with giving a fantastic performance. 8/10
Had to go wrong with BB King. Classic, great live album.
Yes Yes Yes!!! I really loved Help the Poor and Please Love Me.
B.B. King has a really strong voice, and the stereo mix combined with the cheers from the crowd really enhanced this performance. Blues songs may be structurally similar, which doesn't make it my ideal genre for an album, but at the same time it allows them to transition organically into each other without losing momentum (at least for some of it, there were some abrupt cuts later on)
It's wild to listen to BB King as a young man. I only remember him as an old blues guy who was always showing up on The Tonight Show. This music is classic and has such great energy. There's something about this genre that sounds even better live
Neat to hear a young bb king totally owning the place
Good
Gute, treibende Rhythmen mit Jazz-Elementen.
Wow. That’s a joy and a huge gift to have this album for anyone who loves blues, jazz or just want to know where many other genres (ie rock, r&b, soul) all started. And who better to deliver some of these classics from way back than BB. Had a memorable time at his restaurant/club in Times Square back in 2010 too.
Weird to be so casual about spousal abuse, but the music is killer
Live sound quality was great for 1964. Fantastic blues album and overall great live album. Soloing was clear and has classic BB sound. The crowd is lively, which often takes away from the sound, but it brought a lot of energy and flair to the sound.
Great live album considering the technology back then
At first I just didn’t care. A live album??? Then I listened. The best part is the interaction with the crowd and just hearing the pure enjoyment in their response. I actually felt like I was seeing BB live. This is just an enjoyable album. Choice cut: How Blue Can You Get
To have been in the crowd to see this legend... I guess this album is as close as I'll get. Low 4.
BB ate
Live a good live album, and this was a great one!
BBKing was an excellent musician. Love his music.
The 12 bar blues literally always slaps. As for the rest of it, I don't really remember it but I remember it overall being quite fun
Great stuff.
This was tremendously enjoyable and one of the very few albums I’ve ever come across that I wish was longer. It’s an incredibly raw and energetic live performance. More of this kind of thing please.
Live albums are so often a huge drag, but the audience noise in this actually made it more fun.
About as good as a live recording can sound.
There's great BB here. But I think live albums are tough for me... it's like a know that everyone there in person was having a more exceptional experience than me just listening to the recording. FOMO steals a bit of my enjoyment.
I like it.
Choice!
Blues legend and beautiful performer.
Just a really good blues album. Might have been genre-defining at the time, but none of the tracks stood out to me. Not a bad listen, just not remarkable to me. 7/10
Not really my favourite style of music but it's clear this is objectively great: his guitar playing and voice are incredible and there's just the right amount of crowd noise. Enjoyed
Idk about the King of Blues but it was okay. The girls screeching in the background wasn’t choice. 6/10
Great first album to kick-start this app. BB King was a live phenomena by all accounts. I think it’s fitting that a live album is rated as one of his best.
I really enjoyed this album. It was a lot more funk and sould flavoured than I expected, I was really anticipating a blues album. Definitely an album I will listen to again, and an artist I will explore further.
Sweet. 4
Great blues
Boring after a while, but that’s just blues for me. Great performance though, all throughout, since this is a live recording I think it’s only right to acknowledge the talent on display. 3.5 bumped to 4 for me
Very good, BBKing is excellent
really good live album
I've heard this plently of times. Great old school blues. This album gives a lot of insight into how life was back then.
All time making breakfast on a Sunday album
Great blues album, and the crowd was really into it.
its the king what can i say
Really good album, great guitar playing and loved the energy you get from the audience. An amazing 30
BB plays the crowd as fluently as he plays Lucille. Just brilliant.
Love his guitar and his emotion
Im a fan. Boppin tunes
Great album. Good songs, and very engaging
You can hear every modern blues guitarist - hell, every lead guitar player - in these licks. And his vocals! Easy to understand how he was key in bringing the blues to the general public. Love how you can hear the audience talking to him. I've never been able to determine how much I like B.B. King. Too polished maybe? ⭐⭐⭐⭐ __________________________________ 🎧 LPs reviewed: 33 🎧 LPs left to review: 968 🎧 LPs I found great/relevant enough to be mandatory listens (5): 9 🎧 LPs I *might* include in my own list (4): 12 🎧 LPs I will certainly *not* include in mine (1-2): 8
Early in my musical development I bought two blues sampler albums, World of Blues Power (Decca) and Super Duper Blues (Blue Horizon) partly because as samplers they were cheap and that’s all my pocket money could extend to and because they featured many artists who were big. Eric Clapton, John Mayall, Fleetwood Mac to name but a few. Didn’t necessarily buy because of the blues but because of the artists on the albums. By playing these albums endlessly I unwittingly got a grounding in good blues music which has obviously stayed with me for life. BB King didn’t feature on these albums but all the artists on them claimed to owe everything to him. As my musical tastes got a little more sophisticated I moved away from pure blues music but always appreciated that blues music was at the root of everything I went onto like. I’ve never bought any BB King albums but always ready to listen. Likewise I listened intently to this album which I can say is another gem I would have missed had it not been generated on my list. Is an absolute smorgasbord of classic blues guitar licks and one liner lyrics - “I gave my baby seven children, but she gave them all back” I could go on! An album I will now keep returning to and a gateway for me to discover other BB King classics.
BB is the king because he has the chops and it’s all so perfectly tasteful. I can respect that. The thing about being tasteful though is that the guitar, the music, never gets gritty or grimy or rough around the edges, and I always feel like that’s missing with BB. Like he uses his voice so well, and he gets his growl going sometimes, but it’s all so under control. I guess he makes it sound too easy. It’s weird. It’s almost as if because he sets the standard, he can’t ever blow my mind, because he always plays what I expect. It’s not a criticism; how could you ding a guy for always being perfect? I guess it just means my taste is for blues is to be a bit dirtier and grimier than BB’s clean-as-a-whistle style.
Heerlijk muzikaal en lekker jammen op veel “klassieke” instrumenten.
the BLUES!!!!!!
This album was great and an accurate representation of the best of the Blues, imo. I loved "Worry, Worry" and "Help the Poor"
This made me want to go go Memphis and get some BBQ
I was a little worried when I saw that all the songs were live but oh my gosh I loved it. I loved that you could hear the crowd and I loved his voice. Such a cool album 👏🏻
This album is fantastic. I loved feeling like I was there with the band and the crowd. The set is quick and varied and the energy comes through the recording. Looking forward to listening to this again soon.
Pretty good
Loses a star for being a live album but I otherwise really enjoyed this album. It had a great pace and energy to it. The Blues music and BB King's voice mix so well that I'm going to go listen to his back catalogue.
Live délicieux, voix puissante, on se sentirait presque devant la scène.
Classic blues. Love it!
Very different than what I usually listen to, but I thoroughly enjoyed it
I’m not much of a blues fan, but this is undeniably good.
great live performance and stage presence
fun blues
Riley B King, First of his name, The Unburnt, Protector of the strings, Lord of the Rock and of the Roll, Breaker of hearts, Father of Solo, and King of the Blues. Praise his name.
Straight forward blues with far better production value than you would expect from a live recording. Such raw emotion in the vocals and licks and a stellar way of bringing the crowd along for the ride.
Rating: 8/10 Great album. Really enjoyed B.B. King's guitar playing and vocals. He plays guitar and sings with so much emotion and passion, I can definitely see why he's considered to be one of the greats of the genre. Also enjoyed the incorporation of piano and brass instruments as well. The album is a very one-note for me but done so well that it's still great from start to finish. Favorite songs: Every Day I Have The Blues, Sweet Little Angel, Please Love Me, You Upset Me, Worry Worry, Woke Up This Mornin', Help The Poor. Least favorite song: It's My Own Fault.
# Playlist track - Worry, worry # Notes - Amazing record. I could do without the audience shouting sometimes, but that's part of the charm of it.
Solid album, quite fun. I could come back to this for sure.
The King.
Damn good music. Nothing more to say.
It is very good.
Classic Blues. Love it
Really dug the banter in between tracks. The man was a natural entertainer
I generally don't love live albums but this is an exception. What a great listen! Had it on repeat for a couple times through before I really even realized.
Much more layered, upbeat, and guitar-heavy than I expected from a Blues artist. Favorite track: Help the Poor
Blues is great, I was surprised by how much his voice is the main show as well, in additions to the guitar.
That was fun! Ended weird though. But still fun and livelier than I thought the blues would be.
schön!
Muy bueno, a pesar que no me gusta la actuación de los shows gravados
Love bb king but I don't like live albums
Fun live album, nice jazz guitar.
Great album, the closer Help the Poor was probably my favorite track. Plain to see why King was considered the greatest of all time at his gig. More upbeat than Hard Again by Muddy waters in my opinion.
groovy
I learned a lot about rock music listening to this album.
Nice classic blues. Okay that’s it.
He king!
Oh man, blues is so much my thing. I know B. B. King is considered one of the greatest blues musicians of all time: probably the reason why I didn't listen to him as much as other blues guys because I considered him too "mainstream." My mistake. This is a great album. Another reason to visit Chicago.
Great live album, you can really feel the crowd energy.
Interesting album, lots of talking between sets and improv. Good for a lighter mood, not so great for focusing or reading at the same time.
Iconic.
I love the crowd work, the band, and the vocals. For a genre called the blues, I had a lot of fun listening to this one.
BB Kai
Really enjoyable not music I often listen to.
Awesome live album, great tracks, very crisp too
Every Day I Have the Blues 9/10 Sweet Little Angel 8/10 It's My Own Fault 7/10 How Blue Can You Get? 8/10 Please Love Me 8/10 You Upset Me Baby 8/10 Worry, Worry 7/10 Woke Up This Mornin' 7/10 You Done Lost Your Good Thing Now 8/10 Help The Poor 6/10 Favourite Songs: Every Day I Have the Blues, How Blue Can You Get? Least Favourite Songs: Help The Poor Rating: 7.8/10
Known artist well before already, and already enjoy the rock n roll genre.
i don’t think i’ve ever listened to the blues before? enjoying the music more than the singing honestly how blue can you get is the best one so far second half of the album hits less than the front half very great crowd energy though
Hell yeah, didn’t realize this is where John Mayer got his first song from
King of blues, erg genoten
When I saw it was a live blues album I couldn't be less enthused. Live albums, especially on Top 500 or 1001-album lists, are mostly just a cheap way to put a 'Best Off' in a list. And while I always appreciate the influence blues has had on modern music, it never really was my thing, Until I heard this album. The ambiance is perfect: the interaction with the audience and a still young and technically very strong BB King who sounds like he's preaching to his Blues congregation. He is accompanied by a fantastic band that smoothly improvise all the songs into one. And yeah, in the lyrics you feel the blues. How Blue Can You Get?
Great live album. No-one plays blues like B.B. King Not a huge fan of live albums, but this is a standout.
Immaculant vibe here
BB King is definitely one of the greatest, although I'm not sure how often I'd be going back to listen to his stuff.
good album, fun listening.
dont usually care for live albums but the reactions add to the soulfulness i really liked it
The music here has a very timeless sound about it. I didn't look at the date it was released before I started listening and had no idea what year or even decade it was released in. Good, fun stuff here. The audience talk back is amusing too.
I'm not a fan of blues but this album made me understand why people like this genre.
good short album
Mmm blues
Pretty awesome. Stands the test of time, but not the best the era has to offer. 4 stars.
live performances albums always have a good feel to them, putting yourself into the crowd is much easier, and this crowd is giving immaculate vibes to B.B. King. as for the music, soul is being plucked like Kings electric guitar after this one, of course further complimented by a gifted voice and band.
cute not sure if i like the live audience reactions but it adds character mafia 3 vibes which i love not quite my style of music still though
singing is mesmerizing i fuck with this on a serious note, the vocals are emotional and passionate and they are matched with powerful and exciting guitar riffs. each song tells an emotional story and the live audience only helps with portraying it was a captivating set. accessible for new to blues like myself.
Not my jam. The music is good. Definitely something I could listen to.
Really good album
I feel like there are better BB King albums. They are probably on the list somewhere too…
His singing is delicious. Another thing I've noticed is that every performer has space to shine during the track. While it seems to be the norm for jazz, it is new to me and I quite like it. Everything is evenly sprinkled and it is beautiful
baller
-lounge room, feels like it’s got a burgundy carpeted floor and dim lightning. -amazing voice, pleasantly surprised -bass marks the song even more than the drums. drums too light (2nd track) -movie like really. magical, i want to be there. -cymbals main character -directing what we should be focusing on???? genius - drums there you go !! (track 6) - marital advice ???? - slay drums (track 7)
I never knew how amazing young bbs voice was
Classic. Want to listen more. Hotty Toddy
4.0
4/5 I really liked this!
So, this is the happiest moving blues. :). I don’t recognize any of the songs on this album, but I definitely recognize the voice and sound. He certainly works the crowd up. Contagious. I do know his other releases…The Thrill Is Gone, My Lucille, Let the Good Times Roll. He definitely has a cult following. I prefer his younger jazz. . Boogie Woogie Woman.
So good! Wish I could have seen him live and feel that energy in person.
That crowd is insatiable! What a neat experience to get conversed with during a show and be able to participate back.
What a great album! This is the reason I chose to do this project. I wouldn’t listen to B.B King that fast in my free time but from now on I will. This is what you call music. Favorite album so far!!!
Oh that’s just lovely
One prefers other albums and –– who knows? – maybe the instrumental record, the spirituals record, his farewell record or Completely Well would have been a better choice than the 8th or 9th Bowie record or the 3rd or 4th Metallica record (or any of them)? The only beef here being that BBK often makes the blues sound like too much fun.
Good live album. He made a weird comment about not hitting women in the face. 😂
Very relaxing to listen to. Good work music.
The most energetic blues album of its era. It really shows blues as the future of rock n roll, with catchy riffs and choruses, but retaining awesome guitar solos. For a live album, you can feel the excitement of the crowd in the background, and King certainly has an outstanding stage performance. The songs transition well, and there's enough diversity in speed and mood to keep anyone entertained for the 35 minute length. First side is stronger and more memorable, but it's all good. Favorites: Sweet Little Angel, How Blue Can You Get, Please Love Me
Great music and B.B. is charismatic which made it enjoyable with audience input. That can be hard to accomplish. There are some jokes during breaks that make it obvious it was a different time so my score is based on the music itself. In short, it was a bop
Really fun listen; I love the energy, emotion, and passion in the performance. I think my experience was enhanced from it being a live album.
I love live albums, I love the tone of his voice, just an incredible listen all around
Nothing really wrong with this album. Will listen to it again. Enjoyed the live aspect. Love how much soul there is in the performance
Its classic. Not much I can add that hasnt been said
Love this; the way B. B. King can work a crowd is phenomenal, not to mention just how much soul and passion is put into the music. I usually don't like live albums, but in this case the crowd is truly a part of the experience and heightens the impact of King's music. The only reason I don't give this 5 stars is that the album seems to be pieced together from various live performances versus being one performance, and that breaks a bit of the immersion.
Starts off incredibly strong and showcases the energy, but even though it is short it loses a little bit of its shine by the end. Maybe too poppy when I want it to RIP
I've only heard newer BB King so I am completely blown away by how well he sings on this album. I think his vocals are even better than his guitar playing, and his playing is legendary. I mean, sure the songs can be a bit formulaic, but to hear the crowd losing their mind over the music... the whole thing is just great.
Tää on just semmosta mihin haluisinki törmätä täl projektil. Hyvää bluesmusaa ja just tämmönen vaikuttava albumi johon en törmäis muuten. Sweet little Angel lemppari. Musta tää live-versio lisää kans näihin bluesbiiseihin paljon.
such a stellar performance!
A Great live Album.Might give it a Relikten. No amazing song i feel like Bit the overall Album is so solid.Just great blues.
OG BB King blues.
Fun listen! He is great with the crowd. Stand-out: You Done Lost Your Good Thing Now
Nice set of “classic” blues from a classic blues man. The recording is better than I expected from a 1964 recording. I didn’t love the backup band, they seemed a little out of sync on the opening song, and overall had a bit of a “Vegas” feel all along. But overall a great time capsule, and a worthy listen. 4/5
Pretty fire
Truly the king of Blues. Favorite track: Help the Poor
As usual, it's hard to get too excited about live albums, since the inferior sound quality generally outstrips the gain in energy from the live performance. I would compare this to the James Brown live album that I got previously on this list, in the sense that the energy from the crowd and the intensity of the performance really do make a huge difference here. This seems like it would have been an incredible show to be at, and I'm not sure that a studio recording would sell the impact of these songs nearly so well. Really high energy, and you can just hear how much he feeds off the crowd 4/5
4/5 Incredible classic blues. One of the best all time live vocal blues performances,
Good energy. It seems he enjoys guitar and playing music.
Not my thing but I can appreciate BB King. I also learned to not hit women because it might make them smarter!
This is my first real experience with the blues, but wow...there is a reason BB King is labelled the king of blues. His voice is beyond belief, incredible. His live show presence is really felt. An eye opening experience.
Good but wasn’t in mood. Rocky blues
10 dollah dinnah...thx for the snack... yleisön partusupaatio on haitaksi, tarvi kokoaika kirkua satunnaisissa paikoissa... ja paskasti nipsattu yhteen eri äänitykset. ja yleisö hiljaaaaaaaKdkfjfkdwkforlgnhl musiikki toki laaatua..king of all the blues... sellasta termistöä kun köyttää niin jooh, pakko ollakkin hyvää.. worry worry
I would imagine if I was there for this live I would think it was the best gig ever however as I find on most blues albums the songs all run into one another and I come out at the end with nothing really memorable. The energy from the performance and the way the band play definately push this rating up. Was it not a live album I dont think id have made it to the end.
What a vibe, what a performance! Such a sound, need to listen again
Who doesn't like B.B. King? This is some good blues, and a great live album.
Classic blues by a master
Had no idea King was such a sex symbol (he was perpetually 75 in my mind) but it's undeniable that he had this crowd wrapped around his guitar neck
Great album, fantastic even, but not my thing
Extremely groovy.
Iconic performance
Fire jaZz
Bluesy
In the wrong hands the 12-bar blues quickly becomes tedious. And the vast majority of those who play it have the wrong hands. I've always found that B.B., while technically incredible, plays a watered-down version of John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, J.B. Hutto...As this album opened, the Las Vegas-review treatment was confirming my biases. But from How Blue Can You Get? forward, it builds and builds with one amazing performance after another. The band is crackin'. The sound is exceptional. B.B. got me.
confident voice a voice that isn't singing about a situation, but actually is in that situation at that exact moment a subdued piano that pours a vintage nostalgia a guitar and drums that playfully fight for attention but end up working together to ultimately serve King's voice
Solid fucking blues. Føler virkelig man fik et indblik i hvordan BB King må have været at se live på det tidspunkt. Hans stemme er fantastisk og hans guitarspil, om end det ikke er det teknisk vildeste, så er det uden tvivl smukt og imponerende.
First thing I noticed was the B.B. King did not sound anything like I expected. I knew he was considered a great blues artist, and maybe I've heard some of his stuff, but in general, I thought he would be less upbeat and more somber. I'm definitely enjoying this. I love the horns, the guitar is fun and funky, and he has a great voice.
7/10 BB was never my favorite of that generation of blues players, mainly because his guitar playing sounded a bit thin, and he didn't dig in to notes quite the way Albert King or Collins would do. But man, this is a very good live album. His singing really hits the spot. The raw emotionality is moving and convincing. The stage patter is so professional, you can just feel how long he's been doing this thing. The album is tight and without a wasted moment. Probably my favorite BB King album so far.
A great album. An incredible live recording. Personally, I prefer slower blues with less of a horn section, but that's splitting hairs.
I really liked this album. First of all, I love listening to live albums, and I enjoy instrumental interludes and talking and applause and all the moments that come with this. Also BB's setlist definitely had an ear towards social justice that I appreciated and found timeless.
great blues album! clean listen, nearly no skips
Yes this ticks all the boxes, blues legend, great live album. Brilliant great energy and just a fun album.
I prefer the studio versions of these songs, but that didn't stop me from enjoying this album. Good stuff.
Superb. A life-affirming celebration. What a voice.
Very candid album. It was as if I was in the room during the recording. B.B. King has such a great voice.
Pure blues fun start to finish.
Very old, very professional, I even liked it, although it's not my favourite style.
Don’t always love live albums, but I always love B.B. King.
Great concert album!
Classics, all of them.
I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. A lot of the lyrics/talks are a bit... dated.. but I didn't even mind the live aspect on this one. It seemed to fit. Didn't care much for the last song but the rest was pretty great.
The energy coming off the crowd on this live album is so palpable, it's incredibly recorded and flows smoothly. I've always known B.B. King was one of the greats of the blues but had never really taken the time to listen to an album as a whole. This was a really solid, energetic album, especially for the blues, which often can feel uninspired or repetitive to me (when done poorly). Standout Tracks: Everyday I Have the Blues, Sweet Little Angel, How Blue Can You Get?, Please Love Me, Woke Up This Mornin', You Done Lost Your Good Thing Now
A fun album. Although, I hate when live albums end one song then start introducing the next song and just cut it off and jump to a different song.
Good shit. Some day I will educate myself on Blues. It's like a whole thing I know nothing about.
Loved it
Good record. Saw him live 50 years after this was recorded. Amazing how great he still was half a century later.
His voice is incredible. Just the whole atmosphere of this album is incredible, the feeling of being in a crowd in a smoky club and he’s up on stage with his band >>>>> The horns and the energy are great. Everyday I have the blues and help the poor highlights. A simple thing done right
Definitive live blues.
It's been ages since I went through my blues phase so I wasn't sure how much I'd like it coming back to this after so long ... but yeah it's great :) Where blues gets tiring real fast is fairly obvious in that it doesn't go into too many surprising places; you've got your I-IV-V and slight variations on the theme. Quickly boring. So it's what you do with those - the rhythms, the dynamics, the instruments, and the voice/s that can push it into something else, and the band here gets it all - especially the dynamics - letting BB orchestrate the show via voice/guitar, but it's not all him either. This record probably sounds better *because* it's so old - maybe a few microphones on stage keeps everything all glued together and maybe strangely puts you more in the space of/at the time. My favourite moment which wouldn't happen or would be corrected in the studio: in "How Blue Can You Get" when BB sings so loudly that the mic distorts ... it's gold, Jerry. I know that this wouldn't have been nearly as good as a studio album - huh... as I'm typing this to myself its a good note that since I mostly avoid live albums -> it's live albums from rock bands that I (generally) don't care for - e.g. jazz/blues are definitely enhanced in the live format. Not complex yet intricate all the same - a great band playing off of each other in a mid-sized theater with all the on-stage banter - it's an outstanding quick listen and blues at its best. 8/10 4 stars.
Good lord what a barnstormer
I like how this feels like one continuous jam, with B.B. telling his stories throughout with some blues guitaring. Hell of a voice, too. 4 / 5 stars.
Fantastic playing and singing throughout, but to say that the songs are one dimensional is an understatement. I'm torn between a 3 and a 4 here. The quality of the musicianship is doing some heavy lifting here, that's for sure.
Es genial, transmite demasiado, me encanta. Lo hace con pasión y que sea en vivo transmite mucho más de la audiencia.
extremely good! can hear the energy the whole time
Bb king my goat
Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Every day I have the blues, Write up this mornin’, Help the poor
This has been the worst year of my life. Every Day I Have The Blues is the most apt sentiment to describe the way it feels. Legendary.
Classic B. B. King.
I think we all have a tendency to imagine the past as a black-and-white photo where nothing moves. But 1965 was every bit as alive and wild and chaotic and real as the present and it's nice to remember that once in a while by listening to a performance like this. B.B. King is a powerhouse. Just stunning. And the crowd at this show matches his energy and fuels his performance. I love how much shouting and cheering is captured in the recording. You can pick out individual voices and hear exactly what they're saying. B.B. King's vocals are fantastic. I don't listen to blues often but when you hear a master like him perform it, the genre really clicks into place. The songs are a foundation for the performers to embellish on and add emotion to. You can hear that in his expressive guitar playing too. Very moving. “I’ve got a sweet little angel / I love the way she spreads her wings” is one of the best wink-wink metaphors I’ve ever heard for sex. Just incredible.
I love the album cover. It's so flat yet colorful and full of emotion. Look at the movement in the photo! It's great. This record is pretty unique because I think it's a collection of various live performances at one theater. You can hear him being introduced in the intros of several tracks- which wouldn't really happen at one single live show. Or maybe just the times are different and that was a thing? I read that this was recorded on one day so it's hard to tell. Maybe there was an intermission and he came back out or something. Regardless, the music is killer. His blues are so straightforward but also stylized to him. He lives / spends a significant amount of time inside of this one specific part on the guitar- naturally named after him the "BB King Box", and it's so obvious that it's him taking these colors and painting with them and stretching and manipulating them to get his emotions out. It's a pleasure to hear modern day blues guitar kings- like Derek Trucks and John Mayer and hear them play inside of this box and think "ooh yea that's BB King". Solid 4/5 for me.
Live blues at its best. A master
Sweet Little Angel How Blue Can You Get? Worry, Worry Woke Up This Mornin'
Loved the album, but since this was live recorded, i can't give it a full score. The random screeching and whistling annoyed me. Still very impressed, that this is a live performance.
Big king energy.
Nobody plays the blues like “The King”. I had a good time listening to this while at the gym. Solid sounds for an old live album. The man is a legend for a reason.
Blues. Un 4.
Bien.
Amazing; a good album. Felt like I was there.
3/4
King of Blues, more like King of Blue idk
Enjoyed this more than expected. I usually find that I enjoy the influenced more than the influencers, especially when I have listened to the influenced regularly for a long time before listening to the original. The guitar was as expected, but his vocal was really what impressed me more.
4.4
So… blues. Distinctly American, and something I have distinctly not enjoyed. Until now. Not only was his range impressive, but his music was just so beautiful! I can see why we are required to listen to the live album, as that adds so much more personality to the recording.
Great live album by the legendary B.B. King! The musicianship is amazing and buttery smooth renditions of his songs. Love this one! 8 out of 10
Loved it . Gave me all the feels on a gloomy Wednesday morning .
Aside from a moment of questionable banter, this is a good time! Would listen again
Great live blues album. I’m usually not much of a blues fan at all but B.B. King’s voice is awesome and the instrumentation is played really well; not just his guitar but all the various instruments from his band. The crowd interaction is great as well.
I usually don't care much for neither blues nor live albums, but this worked for me. Good stuff.
First time listening to a B.B. King album, but it slaps. Easy to listen to and fall into.
12-bar blues doesn't do as much for me as free-form jazz does, but this is something special. Love both his vocal tone and the instrumentation. Was kind of limping towards the finish line, but the closing song brought it back to a 4 for me.
For all you Stevie Ray and Jimi wannabes out there - this is how you do blues. Even better is live at cook county jail, with Joe Walsh and carol king in the backing band. But no one did blues like B B.
Good quality recording. Was never sold on King being the king of blues but this was a good record.
The legendary guitar and the huge voice of the King of blues in his natural habitat, the stage.
Dit is gewoon hele goeie muziek en leuk album doordat je de interactie met het publiek ook hoort. Alleen geen 5 sterren omdat ik het niet zó catchy vond dat ik weet dat ik het niet snel weer luister
No doubt about it, this is a great recording of BB King and his fantastic band. Plenty of “oh yeah that’s cooking” moments . If I was trying to objectively assess its quality, 5 stars for sure. But when I’m in the mood for blues guitar, I’m more likely to pick something by the generation who stood on the shoulders of this giant.
“I gave you seven children / And now you wanna give ‘em back” - one of the great lyrics in popular music. I love B.B., but I never think of him as down & dirty blues - that’s Howlin’ Wolf or Muddy Waters. King is more like cabaret blues & this album is the ultimate example of that. He doesn’t miss a beat & you can feel the audience eating out of his hands. The music is predictable until you get to Help The Poor, which has a totally different rhythm. But it’s all great. Just not the greatest blues album ever, as has been spruiked for quite a while now. Give me “This is Howlin’ Wolf’s new album. He doesn’t like it. He didn’t like his electric guitar at first either.”
So that's why they call him the King.
second half is ace and unusually for me it kept my attentions for a blues record
He wasn’t called King for nothing
Så bra dude.. in n out 35 minuter kändes som 15, superb skiva, stark 4
A technically sound album with some amazing instrumentals. This is an album full of skill and talent. BB is the king of blues and this album shows why. To preform a live album with this much intensity I’d a major feat. Normally I don’t enjoy live albums but this is so well done. 7.9/10
It's B.B. King! He is the GOAT. This is a very well done live album in comparison to many. Just great blues and a nice calm listen. I just love B.B.
De koning van de blues klinkt fantastisch live. Ook heel veel dankbaarheid voor band en publiek.
Love
Great blues album, super enjoyed it.
Bluesy blues blues. Loves it
A great distillation of everything blues should be
Great fun.
Love the live atmosphere it adds a lot imo
This was really good blues!
It was a good bit of fun.
BB is so dynamic on this record. Its a lot closer to a rock and roll record. I have some room in my heart for the king of blues I guess.
It was a good album and I enjoyed it. The album was relatively short. I would listen to it again.
Sound really similar to other BB Kings live albums. Still enjoyable.
Good crowd, great performer. B.B. King is a bonafide singer, embodying the true spirit of soul. Classic.
This album is a great listen, I wish it were longer. King is hard to tune out, and easy to connect to. Soulful jazz that just calmly draws you in with it's rhythms. Standout is "You Upset Me Baby"
B.B. is a legend. Blues is all about the feel, and there are few that have ever been on his level.
Excellent blues album
Blues. Un 4.
I didn’t love every second of it but in general it was amazing 4/5
so much energy for a live album. Captures the audience with his storytelling. The bluesy riffs are quite good, but it doesn’t venture much further from them, which does get a bit boring later in the show.
"I bought you a $10 dinner, you said it was just a snack". Fucken chicks, fucken inflation! Fucken loved it. 4/5.
Master player at the top of his craft and delivers a great show, too.
This album is fantastic. B.B. King was such a wonderful performer. I saw him play live in the 80s and it was so wonderfully evident how much he enjoyed himself. An incredible guitarist, he always reminds me that one need not crowd the sound with a ton of notes at all, even though if he wants to, he can rip it; in fact, he is an absolute master of melody, drawing in the listener with sometimes just a handful of notes. Such a great singer, too. So fun. I love listening to him and his music.
Nice! His voice is lovely. Loved playing it in the bg whike doing work <3
hype. 4 stars
a great theatrical experience. guitar cuts through the crowd with a sonorous tone (stanky, of course) and the emcee-ing gives life to the event. truly "Live!" in glorious stereo. not as gritty as I was hoping BUT it's a great sixties representation of sound. wishing I had some klipschorns and a mac stack to listen thru!
Excellent.
This is what I started the project for, to be given a direction to explore older essential music that has shaped the culture. Wonderful album, didn't necessarily knock my socks off but it's a good starting point for where I want to go
this is cool
