not for me
I always thought I liked Rage Against The Machine, but after listening to the entirety of this album, I actually realized I do not. None of their songs or music really engaged me. I found it to be more noise than coherent musicality and meaning. I listened to most of their later albums, and with the exception of Bulls On Parade, the rest left me uninterested as well. I am just realizing that what I always liked was Bush, not RATM.
I've been told for a very long time that Rage Against the Machine is good... and I've for an equally long time disagreed. I suppose if I were angrier at "the machine," this would resonate, but I figure, I voted, so if things turn out to be a shit sandwich, either I'm partially to blame or fully free of fault. Getting angry at those in power and/or the idiots that put them there has just never felt like a good use of energy... I'd rather reserve my ire for more sensible things like malfunctioning technology and lousy coworkers. But I digress... back on topic: this album sucks. Any redeemable guitar work (and there is some) is completely lost in the splatters of screamy and oft silly cliches... seriously... I was more convinced of Alanis's anger on Jagged Little Pill than I was by the forced "rage" on this after school special...
I liked the music. I hated the screaming.
Not my cup of tea
I don't think this has lived up to the test of time, sorry...
So much rage, fits the title of album
Tedious, dull, repetitive, unimaginative, bereft of musical interest, unimpressive. Rage on its own is insufficient. 1/5.
This is one of the worst things to come out of the 90s. Every song on this is terrible and they all sound the same. Soundtrack to sloppy looking middle aged men mowing their lawn every Saturday. RATM is Limp Bizkit with a Che Guevara flag hanging in the dorm room. All you Rage fans got swindled, hard.
Rage ON BEHALF of the Machine. These guys are as revolutionary and angry as those sad keyboard warrior activists. Fakes.
So, this is a first. My usual method of listening to albums doesn't work on this one. I usually just paste album and artist into YouTube, and if it's got a title track, add "album" to the end. In private browsing, of course, because I don't want The Algorithm flooding my feed with music that I don't actually like (that's for defunct comedy channels and pop education that more makes you feel like learning than actually learning, thank you very much), but it's age restricted. I'm guessing, because it's every song, that the cover art is a problem. Which I get on YouTube's part, because it is a photograph of a person dying, but it means I need to find another source, and, at this point in my life, it's gonna take a lot more than this for me to make a Spotify account, and I'm not logging in, because I'm pretty sure I'm not going to like this very much. Okay, after listening to it, I don't like the sound of people screaming. It's okay occasionally, but I can't stand it. It's musically interesting, lyrically bold, and I don't care because I hate the way the guy chooses to sing. I can't get past it. I know, it's a personal failure, but I would not listen to this album for fun.
Not my kind of music
no no no i couldn't get past the first song wish i could give this zero stars
its a no from me - too angsty
Racket rap rubbish
No
jesus I fucking hate rap rock
Pre-listening thoughts: I don’t do metal. Post/during listening thoughts: I still don’t do metal. And I REALLY don’t do it when it’s mixed with rap??? 1/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: no Fav tracks: none my god what even was this album Least fav tracks: all of them like they all sound the same to me
It's a shame RatM has joined with the machine. Tom Morello is a joke.
Still not my type of music.
Hated it
Vocal. Too much screaming. Made me feel anxious! Same throughout album.
If you can’t say anything nice …
i just fkn hate rage against the machine, the music is dumb jock rock and the lyrics are so fkn stupid, champagne socialists, whatever man
Nur laut reicht nicht. Zuviel Rap, zu wenig Musik.
Nope. No. No thanks. I tried
Less said the better.
Not my style of music
I don't like death metal as much as the next guy
No good. Commies.
Sucks!!!!!!!
I’m sorry but it was just a very long tantrum
Album full of songs that are musically indistinguishable from one another. idk about y'all but i dislike bleating and vacuous political messages
No
Ugh Barbed wire in my ears Entitled sounding thrash shiiite.
Meh Fav songs: Take the power back :*_
Well it clearly goes against the grain on here but I didn't enjoy one moment of that. Musically it's nothing - calling it second rate hard rock is being kind. As for the lyrics, anyone who thinks yelling angry 6th form slogans & saying 'fuck' a lot is some sort of revolutionary insight into the ills of western capitalism needs to seriously grow up.
Sucks

Not a fan…..at all…
Yeah, I couldn't do it. I listened all the way up to and including Bullet In The Head. Nope, not my thing. Yuck
Oof. I really tried to like this album because I love Tom Morello as a person and my dad of all people likes this but. I know they convey a powerful message but oh boy I could not focus on that at ALL. Just screaming stop screaming. I really tried to keep an open mind which makes me confidently say i hate this album. Not able to say one good thing about it. Especially the last song just tied off the ends for me and helped me come to this conclusion.
No rap please
Not for me
Nope
Too much yelling. Just a lot of angry self-righteousness and simplistic political commentary. Like a lazy combination of rap and punk. That one crescendo part at the end of "Bullet in the Head" is cool, at least, but there isn't just enough anywhere else to make this worth it.
Rock, Rap, hart, 1992 > 1
Loud screaming noise. Hated it
This type of music gives me anxiety.
I listened to the end. What an experience! One I won't be repeating 🤣 I suffered until the end , appreciate a lot of people like them but I am not one. I would rate it zero star based on my listening experience 🫣 but that's not an option so gave it one.
Nope, not for me
I really hate this one. I'm trying to listen to the end but it's painful.
Rock Instruments: 2/5 Modern Translation: 3/5 Dance Potential: 1/5 Listening Location: Home DIY projects Best song: none of them Made me feel: angry. So much yelling, so much angst. Had to channel the energy into hammer drilling.
Felt like one long song. Killing in the name of was the best.
Just not my thing. I can appreciate the music, but lyrics are heavy and depressing. I would never choose to listen to RATM again.
I couldn’t listen. Not me.
A little musical swing would go a long way the moments where it crops up are briefly nice but it’s just not enough to engage me. Lyrically it’s so generic that the anthems of defiance are just as empty as the faceless voices of authority they criticize.
Why does the lead singer remind me of the beastie boys? The instrumental work is great but sounds a bit repetitive across the songs. It's just not giving what I look for in music.
Ugggh
En riktig skithelg. Tre urusla plattor på raken. Detta album gör ingen glad.
ну не сильно моя история поэтому прошло как-то около...
Not my type of vibe.
I remember being this CD back in the 90s, expecting big things. Big popular songs aside, this is a disappointing album. Full of angst against the world. Chip on your shoulder stuff a lot of the time. I felt nothing. Next.
mid...
Ummm..I really don’t get. Lots of rage and lots of noise…not very musical.
This is the second rage album I listened to. The first one was a little later in their career where they knew their sound. This album feels like they just don't know where they're going with some of the songs. Dudes voice is great but can get old. Really did not like the 2nd half of the album 2/10
Don’t like metal Like machines too much
headbanger music ❌ headache music✅ terrible, copy and pasted and distasteful worse genre of all time cringe lead singer 1/5 cool album cover tho
Not only is it noise but it’s noise with an excessive amount of bad language which to me is an instant turn off
Cover art 3/5. Feel pretentious
Not my thing!
This was something i had never listened to before, despite being 20/21 yrars old when it came out. This kind of metal was never my thing, and i never paid much attention to it. this 1001 project made me give it a go, and i guess that is part of the point. i listened to the first 30-40 minutes while walking the dog yesterday afternoon. the first two bands that came to mind, both contemporaries of RATM were the Beastie Boys, and Nirvana. both of whom I love, But this just didnt do it for me. Angry, serious, political, raw. no humour, no finesse and no fun, for me. And i couldnt finish it. But the sound / vibe kept coming back to me in the evening and i decided to give it another go this morning. i listened to the whole thing. i didnt love it. its hard to put my finger on it. And from reading about it is was evidently an important and successful album. The music is raw, and i dont think great. the lyrics are serious snd angry, but no finesse. All of this may be deliberate but it leaves me wondering why i should listen. The message is, for me, drwoned out in noise and screaming. i reckon that unless this project gives me another RATM album, i will probably never listen to them again. But i did give it a go!
Not a fan
Nah. Not for me.
nein!
This is a good album. I'm giving it 1 star (would give a million negative if I could), because ultimately, their revolutionary talk is just a façade for a genocidal instinct and material lust that is so typical of your everyday armchair communist, castrated, burgeois, and with zero responsibility for his own life. Their White genocide video with that bitch Tim Wise is inexcusable, and I hope they will all burn in hell with a cactus up their ass
Bah
What an album cover! What a band name! And they are a true protest band, something rare! Hard to stomach the aggressive music and shouting though.
No.
nooooooope
Pass
Did not like this album
The photo is more interesting than the album
i thoroughly enjoyed the whole fuckin thing. I'll go back through it with the lyrics sometime
HELL YEAH
repetitive
