Reviews (page 10 of 10)
Alveg frá því að B-52's komu fram í Flintstones myndinni fyrir löngu síðan hef ég haft smá veikan blett fyrir þeim. Ekki að ég haldi eitthvað mikið upp á Flintstones eða þau en ég hef gaman að stílnum þeirra. Það voru því ömurleg vonbrigði að fá aðeins aðgang að tveimur lögum á plötunni þökk sé höfundaréttarbulli (þótt eitt af þeim sé Rock Lobster sem ég set oft í gang þegar ég kemst í Family Guy stuð). Ég held því áfram að refsa á íslensku á algjörlega ótengdri síðu en í þetta sinn með sorg í hjarta.
Really annoying voice s
What a waste of my time.
The WORST album I’ve heard to date
Can’t tell if this is meant to be a novelty album. Sounds like something that would play at a kids Halloween party. The female vocals are alright, but the guy is unbearable.
Surf music alternative with a highly percussive guitar and bass. Yelled lyrics add minimally to the melody.
Wow. Once interesting and popular is now unlistenable. There is no reason for anyone to listen to this on purpose. Very disappointing.
Something about B-52’s I don’t like. To me they are like a modern 1950’s skiffle group. Good for dancing I suppose and Rock Lobster does get all those dancing dads moving at wedding do’s.
Honestly if it was just Rock Lobster, it’d probably be higher
Blödsinnsmusik. Vielleicht für gute Laune. Mich macht es aggressiv.
Zo ontzettend koortsig omg laat me met rust
Very much not my thing.
Niks
So annoying and bad
un poco repetitivo, no me gustó.
Didn't like this at all, had all the tunelessness of that era of punk without the attitude and aggression or the cleverness in the lyrics. Also, all the songs are way too long, there's very little excuse for a punky song to hit 4 minutes, but most of these do, and Rock Lobster is almost SEVEN minutes long. Would not recommend this to anyone. 1/5.
You kiddos ever watch third rock from the sun? The hit 90s sitcom about aliens that are living on earth. Great television from childhood right there. Anyway, there's this one character played by french stewart, he was kinda like the sheldon before it became maybe the worst sense of humor ever (it still wasn't that funny, autistic mannerisms aren't my cup of comedy tea (most likely due to some of my 'tism tendencies)). This album sounds like it was made by that character, squinting the entire time and saying random shit that sometimes sticks and sometimes makes a scene so incredibly awkward that all you can do is laugh (I just looked it up, apparently Stewart's character squints the entire time because Stewart was high at his callback for the role, that's legendary stuff right there.) Except instead of laughing and being awkward, this album was bad and made me annoyed. Do better, there were even some nice surf rock vibes in there and it made me upset to hear it be reduced to trash. It feels harsh to give this one star, but it also feels so right, definitely better than sabres tho... Ok I should stop typing nonsense and attend to my alzheimer's patients.
I did not enjoy this. It's annoying.
No
Discordant and punky but irritating after a couple of songs
Really don't like the B-52s
Shite shouty deliberately quirky crap, it was always crap - remains crap 30 years later
Substanzloser Quatsch. Gerne bitte wieder.
A lot of shrieking. Rock lobster is good. So kitsch jah. It's shit is what it is. Like they're close to being listenable but they're just annoying.
B -5 Poos more like. Not for me. I kept thinking of that Family Guy episode when Rock Lobster came on which was the highlight.
Bit silly.... Not for me. I have to give this 1 as I gave fats Domino 2 and I preferred that massively.
either this concept was created to highlight albums from this time period that all sound the same or the creator just really liked pop-punk with punchy vocals and short repetitive riffs.
Gross for some reason
I expected this to be passibly entertaining. It was absolutely awful and grating.
Not my cup of tea at all. Very quirky. One of them was a guest judge on ru Paul
Right out of the gates, Spotify is missing “Lava” and “Hero Worship”, so I feel cheated in this review. What is left had the bounce and camp I expected to get out of this cult favourite band. “Rock Lobster” alone makes this zany album worth listening to, but by no means saves it. Especially since it’s way longer and more nonsensical than I remember. Hearing songs outside of Lobster or “Love Shack” make me realize I wasn’t missing out on too much by not hearing this album. It’s maybe a little too experimental or avant-garde for my taste. The lyrical stylings of Fred Scnheider, Kate Pierson, and Cindy Wilson combine to make an interesting offering. I appreciate the risks being taken to some extent, but on the whole, don’t find their talent to fit what my ears would like to drink in. Are they better singers than me? Most likely, yes. But on the larger scale, this offering strikes me as being something that wouldn’t make it out of the first round of American Idol. But at least we still have the rock lobster!
Wow, okay. This has very few redeeming qualities to me. Some tracks like 'Planet Claire' and '52 Girls' are tolerable, but it was truly an annoying chore to listen to this. To top it off, the album finishes by absolutely ruining 'Downtown' for me. I don't know, maybe I'm just no fun.
Lennon said after hearing the album: “It sounds just like Yokos music.” What a weirdly backhanded compliment… Nothing really does anything but slightly bore and annoy me until Rock Lobster kicks off - always a fun thrill. The last two songs are just plain ridiculous and unnecessary. Why on earth are they included? Possibly the world’s most heavily sedated party band. Best: Rock Lobster Worst: 6060-842 / Downtown
It's not really my style, it's fine but I'm not a fan of the old style music. It does have the iconic rock lobster song tho
I like that its 9 songs But nah man, other than that one song
Loved the spooky surf vibe, hated the vocals. Most of the songs are just repetitive drivel with some shouty nonsense over the top.
Impressive, inasmuch as this seems almost precision-engineered to annoy the living fuck out of me
It's a no from me.
My instinct was gonna be to pan this. Because that first song "Planet Claire" and jesusf#R#*&^#$ "Rock Lobster" are just straight up awful. I hate that keyboard sound and Fred.... yeah that's a big no from me. But then "52 Girls" is pretty good - the dueling vocals (read: NOT Fred) and punky guitars make for a fun song. I could maybe have gotten behind a full album of that. Maybe. Or maybe it's just that it's the only part of the album that floats above the sewage and kitsch. Because it dunks right back into that, which are what I cannot stand and unfortunately what I remember and think of with this album/band. "Lava" makes me want to drown in it. 2/10 1 star.
Awful
I did not enjoy this. One or 2 decent riffs to be fair but I can't go the lead singers voice.
« There’s a moon in the sky... It’s called the moon... » ... ... vraiment ?
That was silly.
No.
Cannot stand the B-52's. Rock Lobster is a total abomination.
fuck outta here with this shit
Not a fan. I love new wave, but I guess I've been spoiled by David Byrne's genius. I've never liked "Rock Lobster", and I've never heard anything else by the band. "Planet Claire" is good, but the only track that I actively liked was "Hero Worship" I guess because it sounds like something that would have shown up on Talking Heads '77 but with better production. I will revisit this album from time to time, to see if it'll grow on me. Until then it's just an annoying one-hit (to me) wonder album.
not a fan of punk
Perhaps this album hasn't aged well and I am being harsh but I was delighted when I got to the end of it.
Not for me. Did you know Rock Lobster is 7 minutes long. 7 Minutes
New wave, combining rock and dance music. There's bits to like but it's a largely noisy and chaotic sound, perhaps better suited to the time. Quite liked the rockier 'Hero Worship'.
Horrible
Not my cup of tea..
Absolutely hated the first track and bailed hard.
More often than not, when bands attempt to manufacture campy music, the results are painful. Generally, camp has to be arrived at unintentionally to be funny. The opening tune of B-52's eponymous album, Planet Claire, is a case in point. It's anchored by an obvious Peter Gunn riff. To this, Fred Schneider adds unfunny lyrics in a self-consciously goofy voice, and Kate Pierson layers on keyboard lines which are intended to be redolent of 60s outer space epics but aren't clever enough to add much. 52 Girls is at least a little more pleasant, if inconsequential. A decent little rock 'n roll/new wave guitar line chugs along while Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson contribute high pitched charmingly off key melodies on top that periodically diverge or converge. I wouldn't be surprised if the members of Lush nicked their vocal style from this tune, so the B-52's earn some good karma there. Dance This Mess Around is pretty nondescript except for the vocals, which are once again, self-consciously goofy in a way that is designed to be amusing. On Rock Lobster, the B-52's push their approach of merging various strains of 50s and 60s ephemera with self-consciously goofy lyrics and vocal stylings as far as it can go, which resulted in a monster hit. Why? My guess is that the influences were so obvious that audiences felt like they were in on the joke, and it didn't matter that the song sucked. The rest of the album proceeds along the same lines, but the B-52's save the worst for last with a disastrous cover of Downtown, which drains the tune of any charm it might have had. How to rate? This album is a thoroughgoing stinker, but I'll add half a point for influencing Lush, one of the better shoegaze bands of the 90s.
Meh
Next!
Really annoying.
