Reviews (page 11 of 14)
Pretty good, some classics like norwegian wood and in my life.
Great album, once again the vibe is expected but the production and the mood of the album is great. I don't think I ever listened to a full beatles album before and it was an awesome experience from beginning to end. 4.5/5
Not sure what I could say that hasn't been said so I'll just leave my rating
Playful, light-hearted, hints of hedonism and egoism but in a funny way, kind of like the do whatever you want to do present type of talk, classic, essential Drive My Car, Norwegian Wood, Michelle
Amazing 4.5/5
I hadn't listened to this Beatles album before. As expected a fantastic record, there's some great tracks throughout this album. Such good flow. Tempted for a 5 but ill go with a 4.6 or so!
Not my favourite Beatles album (by quite a margin, given their sublime output), but I do consider Rubber Soul a turning point: it marks the point in time when the band stopped offering pure pop music and started their truly creative phase. The one we can now recognise for its creative genius. Rubber Soul offers a bit of a whiff of that, whereas the likes of Sgt. Pepper provide for a blessed overdose. It's the albums that followed Rubber Soul that made the Beatles the great band they are, which therefore make it into a critical turning point.
That's always beautiful, but I think there are better ones. There are some amazing tracks but the average of the album is not a 5
Always love the Beatles.
WONDERFUL!!! it gives me a good feeling inside. there are beatles albums i like quite a bit more than this though, so it has to be a 4.
Who these boys’ barber I got a cuppa questions
4 A subtle and cheery intro into their psychodelic period. A fairly decent album.
Not sergeant peppers, but still the beatles love the old school production
The melodies are so pleasant. It’s funny that when it came it out, it was rock n roll and now I would categorize it as easy listening. It’s also funny that some songs are 2 mins. I think I looking through you is the best.
Nostalgie.
Lekker toegankelijk, chille vibes, mooie gitaarrifjes.
Listened to half. It's the Beatles so it's good.
Great album, lot of good tracks from the Beatles that I didn't realize were on this album.
Solid album with good blues sounds. Nice middle ground between the early poppy Beatles and the later more pyschedelic Beatles
Listened Before? N Pretty darn good! I quite enjoyed this one, and I know it's considered a classic, so that may have biased me but I really liked it. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Drive My Car
Heerlijke nummers, vooral Norwegian Wood
fantastic, not my fave album but solid. I'm reserving my 5-stars for one of their other albums.
A bridge between the R&B and pop of Beatlemania and the cornucopia of genres that would characterize their later years. The Beatles incorporate folk, country and a bit of Indian raga for a jewel of an album.
Songs are a bit samey, but this was solid, especially for the beach and a puzzle afternoon.
A solid 4. Some enjoyable songs on there with typical Beatles sound and not as trippy as others.
Not quite as strong as Sgt. Pepper’s, but still overall enjoyable. The lyrics for Run for Your Life are questionable though…
Lots of songs on here that I had actually never heard. Some very good, some not so good. Overall I enjoyed it but definitely not my favourite Beatles album.
Great!
How this remains fresh sounding after so long is an absolute fucking mystery.
Quite a solid album. I have neglected many of The Beatles albums and the remediation starts here.
Beep, beep, beep, beep yeah!
Hvað get ég sagt? Elska þetta. Innprentað í DNAið mitt, held ég.
Classic Beatles... Love songs before they wove deeper meanings into it
3.5
Not my favourite Beatles album, but still a great listen.
This is probably the Beatles album I'm least familiar with, so I found myself pleasantly surprised by how strong the songwriting is here. Not too many fancy instrumental tricks or experimental styles, just good instrumentation and lyricism executed to a T with genuine feeling.
Will admit I know a bit more about the Beatle's personal life than their music, despite learning to play Hey Jude as my first contemporary song on the piano, and so it's been a journey listening to their albums. Revolver is my favorite album and now Rubber Soul is my second. Such a fun and experimental album compared to songs like ‘Help” or “Hey Jude.” Standout Songs: Drive My Car, Michelle, You Won't See Me
Not their best
inte deras bästa
Great easy listening album full of jolly folly songs. Hard not to like it
Very good album. The Beatles are pretty good at what they do I think. I only don't give this a 5 star rating to enrage Jack
4/5
Great album.
They really were good, weren’t they?
p79. 1965. 4 stars Loveable 60s mop tops discover illicit substances, and expand minds and song writing potential. This is the departure point from covers and 3 minute pop gems - you can hear the cross-pollination between Dylan and The Byrds. It's Lennon-McCartney-Harrison, so there are more stone cold classics on this one album than most bands manage in a career. Docked a point for What Goes On, and the production which haven't aged well. This album is a bit like sex - when it's good, it's terrific, and when it's bad, well, it's still good.
I like it. Didn't know that's the album those songs were from
A well-rounded album in its entirety. Except for the last song, which I do not care for.
And so the rise to greatness begins
Lol! It's a biggie this one. Almost every track is famous and culturally significant. This is Beatles in transition from boyband to transcendent gurus. There are albums I like better than this but this is probably their most accessible.
One of the interesting things about having to rest during Covid is that I actually sat and listened to this album *without doing anything else*. I haven’t done that with an album in a long time. Really a different experience than listening to music while doing other activities, even driving. An album of its time, in some ways that aren’t amazing. But when the album shines, it shines bright. “Run for Your Life” and all its “little girl”s is pretty irritating in its typical 60s music discourse about women. But I do actually really like the song “Girl”—the Greek style of the song saves it for me. And In My Life and Norwegian Wood are brilliant and favorites and always lovely to listen to.
9/10 Best track - Nowhere Man
Good but not their best
Harmittaa kyllä että en oo aiemmin kuunnellu tätä. About kaikki biisit oli just sitä hyvää beatlesiä.
Ei haluaisi liikaa haippaa, mut on sille syy miksi Beatlesilla on näin monta levyä tällä listalla. Tällä levyllä nappaa esim. Drive my car:n kertsin pianot ja Nowhere Man. 4/5 taattua tavaraa
The first Beatles album I’m rating. I never listened much to them, know their famous songs of course. But this album is great, it has a nice variety of songs. Favourite songs: - Drive my car - Michelle - I’m looking through you
This is the first Beatles album to come up and I've gotta say, there are better. It's wild to like 8 songs off an album and feel that way but it's the Beatles.
Brilliant trippy LP cover for the transitional album bridging the early beat pop years and the later groundbreaking studio experimental albums. Love the funky chops, the pretty ballads and tight pop.
not my favourite beatles album, still solid would listen again
Great album.
So many classics. So streamlined and focused. They deserve the accolades that are heaped on them. Top tier legends.
Rubber Soul is bridging the gap between the early poppy and the late experimental Beatles. As such, we can find tunes like Drive My Car, which could have easily been published one or two year prior, and Norwegian Wood, a folky song that experiments with instruments like the sitar. There are some real Beatles classics here, like the aforementioned Drive My Car and Norwegian Wood, Michelle, and especially In My Life. Even though I much prefer their later material, this album never gets boring. It's a solid 4/5.
The Beatle's 6th outing was quite successful, from influencing peers to even being named Rubber Soul to mean "Plastic Soul" because they didn't feel as genuine as the African-American soul artists they admired. This was definitely when they ventured into the world of drugs.
It's hard to give this album any rating lower than 4. It's great music and super easy to listen to, but it's not really a 5 for me and I don't know why.
Very Good...but not the best of the Beatles.
Many excellent songs on this, but that last song can go fuck itself.
Good album, some songs drag but others are good. Probably a 3
So many iconic Beatles songs on one album. Drive My Car, Norwegian Wood, Nowhere Man, Michelle, Girl, In My Life. Amazing.
An evolution they took that I liked. Less bouncy and more harmony. I think how much I like this is based on how familiar it is, having been drilled into our heads forever. Hearing this today for the first time probably wouldn’t even make an impression.
Big moment in their discography obviously. Shame that the 2009 mixes that are available on Spotify are so weird.
Not my favorite Beatles album, but it's a solid transition album from their early stuff to their later REALLY good stuff. "Norwegian Wood" and "Michelle" remain personal favorites.
Good
A very good album, one I come back to frequently.
In my opinion, this is the first Beatles album that actually was good. The earlier ones are "fine" but haven't aged as well for me. Rubber Soul shows a few style choices that hint of what was to come. Norwegian Wood and Nowhere Man are my favs.
The Beatles at their midway point. Moving away from pure pop but not yet as self-consciously experimental as they would become. The best word to describe this would probably be playful.
Amazing songwriting. So varied and creative.
Still not a big fan of the Beatles, but found this album quite enjoyable.
Well, one song on this album will be forever tainted for me, I guess, but the rest of it is just so solid, so good that I can't fault it. Can't believe this is the first Beatles album to be thrown up by the random generator either!
Not their best, but some great songs on here. And then there's Run For Your Life.
-"Beep Beep, Beep Beep, yeah" -The Beatles -In "Michelle" stupid idiot singer accidentally starts speaking French, the song is in ENGLISH, DUMB DUMB -I really like the synth riff thing in "I'm Looking Through You" I wish they used that sort of thing more -I like the bass riff in "The Word" even though it is only in my right ear. Also "Bird" is the word, not "Love" -It was all solid, Beatles-y music, but like nothing to poop your pants over
I hate it.
So I’m in the dull majority who like the Beatles, though the music is no longer in heavy rotation for me. I like this crossover period from pop to psychedelic: still punchy ditties almost all under 3 minutes. The latter half is a little heavy with upbeat but mopey lyrics in the “girl done me wrong” vein, capped (in the 2009 remaster the YouTube music offered up) with a catchy, charming countrified number about a man’s vow to stalk and kill his girlfriend for infidelity.
Everything comes together so well, with a few absolutely fantastic tracks. Not my favourite Beatles album but a classic still
Bra. Men nog inte en femma. Vissa svaga låtar
Good album, nice to see some music that defined the Beatles, and listen to so more tunes written by John. I didn't enjoy the album and its themes as much as I did Abbey Road so I'll leave this at a low 4.
This very much sounds like the album Oasis ripped off. Still focused on love but a different vibe musically. Not quite so jangly
The Beatles are a classically popular band, and this album was great, but not my favorite of their collection. It was okay.
Nota: 7/10
It's the beatles!
Good album
On the eve of my 42nd Birthday party I shoved 18 beetles up my bum. After a rather uncomfortable night, I jumped out of my bed and ran downstairs. All of the family were waiting, along with a film crew and a number of acclaimed art critics. They all sang Happy Birthday to me and I blew out each of the 42 candles on the cake. I ripped down my pants and fired those beetles directly into the faces of the audience. They gasped. I was awarded the Turner Prize.
Interesting. : )
Solid from top to bottom.
Great song writers. You can hear them starting to transition from their Hard Days/Help style towards their Sgt. Peppers/Magical Mystery Tour style. Excellent transitional album. Especially love the harmony on Drive My Car. The "horn" harmonies. Fantastic. Norwegian Wood. Such an underrated song.
Most underrated beatles? Less maximalist, but still go it.
Is very good. A good amount of influence from folk on top of the preestablished rock/pop. Includes favorites like In My Life, Michelle, If I Needed Someone, and Drive My Car.
This was perfect for a Friday afternoon. I am not usually a huge Beatles fan, but this album really hit the spot. Short and simple, but a lot of catchy tunes on this one.
Great songs on there, but not my favorite beatles album.
Oh wow the Beatles made a good album? They could at least be shit for a change smh
Great album with some solid classics and no duds
Pretty good. Has some standouts.
Done
Not one I am particularly familiar. Good stuff though
Got some bangers on, and 'I'm Looking Through You' is easily one of my favourite Beatles tunes, so it's an easy 4/5.
Heard it a million times before.
Nice to listen to. Surprising how not dated this is.
pretty darn good, glad I listened. a bit rapey at times but I likey
Classic
Great album
Chillige mukke Hype gerechtfertigt.
pop and fresh
I’m not sure how i missed this - by rubber soul is one of the Beatles best albums. 4/5.
the definition of 60's pop rock!
A definite classic Beatles album, with some ridic songwriting in there. Tried to listen to this and therefore score it objectively (I pretended I was Ash listening to it for the first time) and it did make me think about it differently. It’s an album I know so well, but if I was trying to convince someone of the genius of the Beatles I probably wouldn’t choose this one, no matter how good I think it is. It’s quite poppy still, and doesn’t really push the envelope in the ways that albums like Revolver, Sgt Pepper or Abbey Road do.
First time I’ve listened to a full actual non-compilation Beatles album. It was very good, these guys will go far
Yeah wonderful album. Kind of wild how short each song is. First thing I noticed and loved about the album was the positioning and panning of the instrumentation. Super awesome. Favorite track: In my life
I beatles come al solito spaccano. bellino l'album e soprattutto c'erano poche canzoni famose quindi ne ho scoperte di nuove
Reminds me of my dad <3

Really liked this one! A lot more than the last Beatles album I listened to. Songs were a lot more catchier and I felt like they landed better will def revist a lot of songs from thus project. I also appreciate how short it is Fav tracks: drive my car, you won't see me, no where man!!!!, think for yourself, the word, Michelle, what goes on
I like this album. I was surprised that I didn't know more of these songs, but I would have guessed that all of them were the Beatles not having heard them before. I think my favorite was Michelle.
Am I alone in saying that I don't think there's a single Beatles album that is strong all the way through? There always seems to be some filler lurking in the margins. But, of course, when they're on form the Beatles do no less than re-write the face of rock and roll. Some of the tracks here are untouchable. Aside from the fluff, the only things working against them are ubiquity and personal taste - I prefer the Beatles' most early incarnation, but here, as they transition to a more psych sound, they're still near the peak of their powers.
Overall solid album from the Beatles. Not to into boomer music but overall really like the first half of the album and thought it was overall a different sound from other Beatles albums. Idk though since I haven't listened to a lot of Beatles though
Sublime, lo disfrute mucho
This one was really fun to read the wikipedia as each song played. Good music - 4 stars
Tres bon album! 4.95*
Bitels
Easy listenin'. Lots of harmonica, makes me feel like I could jam these songs on a porch with me friends on a summer night. I mean I can't, because I'm not the Beatles, but seems the most accessable of their albums. Also only 35min!
Pop melódico. Bueno.

Fröhlech wie immer vode Beatles, aber me Winter-Herbst Vibes ufne Art. Es hettmi itze nid blowt, aber uf jede Fall worth a listen.
Really enjoyable but not the best Beatles work but still very iconic
Okay. No big songs.
drive my car beep beep
pretty good, i guess it's not random so far as people on Reddit were also talking about it as their first pick. a lot of cheesy staff here but there are some thoughtful songs as well, can recommend certainly. a benchmark for the group and the genre fav tracks- Norwegian wood, my life, nowhere man, girl, i needed someone
was cool
Loved it... it was nice to revisit something I forgot about.
- now this, i have heard - the riff in the word is niiiiiiice
4.5
not the greatest beatles albume but it slaps
Transported back in time. Some serious 60s vibes. Norwegian wood is as awesome as ever.
Noniin, vihdoin Beatlesia. You Won't See Me, In My Life).
great album containing some of my favorite Beatles songs that don't make it on to their top hit albums. The album itself doesn't really have a running theme other than the usual overarching Beatles themes.
Has some really good songs, and overall the album is good. A nice sort of solo chill album. Not all the songs are zingers, but it is a nice length at 35 minutes.
Incredible songwriting, as you would expect. Only criticism is that a lot of the guitar tones sounds pretty weak - I'm guessing recorded straight into the desk. Some people like this aesthetic, but I feel better sounding guitars would have filled out the sound more. Still a great record, though.
The Beatles evolved a lot on this album, and the effort really paid off. Not a perfect album, but still very good.
What’s left to say about this album. A bunch of classic songs.
Perfect pop.
latter part was better claasic beatles but i get why it had no songs i knew beforehand
beatles are good but I'm good
the most mid beatles album
baby you can drive my car?? okay i guess?? norwegian wood lowk bangs nvm BORINGGG i like the banjo violin wtvr thing zoned out through you won’t see me and nowhere man and think for yourself the word is the best so far ssh the WORDDDDDD
20260628 - gut für nebenbei. Letztes Lied düster :)
Good, some great songs, but I wouldn't call it exceptional
It's hard to rate The Beatles accurately because they're so foundational to so much that came after them that stuff that was groundbreaking at the time is just normal now, so this doesn't have the impact now that it might have done. Listening to, the song craft remains undeniable, though this is kind of the transitional album from their more straightforward love song mode to something a little deeper, it doesn't hurt the artistic heights of their next couple of albums. I'd say that the John Lennon songs are the stronger ones on this album, though "Run For Your Life" is just a nasty little slice of misogyny. I usually prefer Paul's songs, but his strongest here is "Michelle," which doesn't feel like a highlight.
nice groovy album. never realized how bad some of their lyrics are lol. favourite song: you won’t see me
Good but I find their songs have a lack of diversity don’t feel like I was taken anywhere on the album
Good album with a few singles that I consistently listen to. Only thing I was kind of hoping for was to pick up on some pervasive theme, and I didn’t happen. It was kind of just songs put together.
It’s nice
Good and influential, but personally the song writing didn't captivate me

RATING: 7.5/10 HIGHLIGHT: In My Life LOWLIGHT: Run For Your Life
Sort of boring but still very good maybe a 7/10 or a 6.5/10
Norwegian wood et you won’t see me : quel ennui. C’est peut-être trop généreux L’Album finit bien : If i needed someone.
Drive My Car: 6/10 Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown): 8/10 You Won’t See Me: 4/10 Nowhere Man: 3/10 Think For Yourself: 7/10 The Word: 3/10 Michelle: 10/10 What Goes On: 5/10 Girl: 10/10 I’m Looking Through You: 3/10 In My Life: 9/10 Wait: 5/10 If I Needed Someone: 9/10 Run For Your Life: 7/10
Solid album, but I've never been a biggest fan when it comes to their Pre-Revolver catalogue.
Fairly good, I liked this album.
This isn’t enough of a transition from the pop nonsense that they were before this. Norwegian Wood is a great song, but not enough of this ilk for my liking. It’s fine, but this iteration of the Beatles isn’t my cup of tea (yet).
imma give a 3 simply because it's got one of my fav and personal songs aka michelle but irl would be a 3.5
A pretty mixed album from the boys. It starts off strong enough, but loses it's luster partway through. The last track is very weird and I didn't much care for it. 3/5
Regular Beatles. Nothing special, not so many catchy song.
The weakest Beatles album is better than most things ever recorded.
Not sure how this is the highest rated album I have heard to date (i'm only 40 albums in). There are a couple of great songs on here, but the love I see posted for this album is a bit much.
Pleasant but nothing captured me, which is pretty damning considering this is The Beatles of Beatle fame
7.5 / 10
Taattua Biitlesiä.
Ending an album with a song about murdering a woman for being with another man is certainly a choice. These fellows could write songs, but ehhhhhhhh.
I'm sure it's an incredibly influential album but to my modern ears I didn't find much of note beyond the first two songs
A bit bland
not their best stuff
Not my favourite of theirs, there were a few stand out tracks but overall I’d call this a skip which is wild for me
Interesting channel mixing, remaster isn't terrible. Songs are okay I guess, it's Beatles so the historical significance is rather obvious. It's also pretty obvious this album is from a point where people had stopped saying "no" to the band because some of the songs should never have left the writer's table (dishonourable mention to "Michelle" here for example), but ah well. Yet another 2,5 which tips to a 3 because of mixing and some upbeat and non-misogynistic songs.
I think I wasn't in the right mood for this because I found a lot of it grating. But, trying to be objective, there are some good/classic songs on this and I understand this little band is somewhat influential, so I'm probably being too harsh in the moment.
Definitely a transition album for the Beatles as they figured out their sound for the later 60s. Some deep cuts that I didn’t know I liked so much, and in my life is one of their best. Run for your life is not so good.
Lotta songs were kinda hollow, but I really liked "girl" and I did not mind the majority of them
Has some real good hits, beep beep and such but has such a weird low point with run for your life. The song feels like it was written from the pov of a serial killer but apparently it's not some deep cut critisim but just some weird casual misogyny
2.8/5 There was probably only 1 song I'd heard off this album before listening to it, but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
i liked this album
Perhaps it’s because I don’t fully understand the context, perhaps it’s because I’m insufficiently enlightened, perhaps it’s because I spent my teens and twenties getting brains addled in mosh pits at punk shows. Whatever the reason, I cannot see the Beatles as anything more than a mid-tier 60s pop band.
It’s fine. Kind of sad. Guys singing harmonies in the sixties depress me.
7/10
This, and the Abba album are how I finally figured out I don't like unison style group singing. Lots of this album is musically sensational.
Very much a transitional album for the lads, it feels like they’re drawing more heavily from their influences than on later albums. Lots of all timers here but there’s also a noticeable lull in the middle of the track list. Great record but they still had a few months before their first real masterpiece 3.5ish
aw fuck. shit and fuck. fuck shit shit fuck. shittity fuck. fuckity fuck Fuck. right then. let's see why brian wilson #locked in for pet sounds. but before that, an anecdote: i took a songwriting class in college and our 2nd assignment was to write a cover of a beatles song we'd never heard. i ended up making (to quote my group members/classmates) some charli xcx lcd soundsystem berghain eurotrash type beat with a jersey club breakdown in the middle. the song? drive my car. nonetheless i'm a little underwhelmed. as for the rest, white washed temptations songs (they're not bad but it must be said) and some mad alright to decent rock. nowhere man + michelle + in my life would do it for the wilson level up but. i'm leaning 80-20 on the spector of it all (pun intended). he didn't think ringo tapped the phones, did he? the "i'm fucking your cat" cover pretty fuego tho. 3.4-4.1. no homo jann wenner smoking MANDINGO if he thinks this is the 5th greatest album of all time. like yeah. baby(whitey? that feels mean. i mean that shit tho)'s first exposure to various genres due to racism + payola + the economics of owning records but i mean. FIFTH?
I usually find Beatles albums terribly overrated but this one wasn’t so bad
Some great tracks on here, some ok tracks on here. Why do they like little girls so much? Ugh. Lennon always comes off pretty sus.
An album filled with “safe songs”. They’re all catchy, they’re all short, and they still within their lane the whole time. Honestly front to back there’s not really a dry moment. But this isn’t what I look for in music
pretty good not really my style or fav but good 1 time listen
Kinda sucks lowkey? I mean a few of the best songs I’ve ever heard and then some str8 trash. “I’d rather you be dead than with someone else” foh
Beat my Shmeat’ls is overrated per usually. This album is OK at best, slightly aged. Consistently OK with no Bad tracks. In My Life is really nice, and Drive My Car with the Mario kart remix is better.
This album was chill. Ain't no Sgt. Peppers, or Band On The Run, but this album was good. I liked the first few tracks, and the French in Michelle. This album would be a very good album if they kept up the pow of the first few songs, but it kind of trails off. Favorite track is Norwegian Wood
bangers and mash
Well... run For Your Life is certainly problematic... a bit of filler but a solid output.
rougher than there later work with some songs i didn’t enjoy but overall a decent album
Not the best not the worst. 3,5
u cant go wrong with a beatles album ig
Not as good as Sgt peppers but still fun
A transitional album. The songwriting is transforming from 60s rock and roll, through psychedelic 60s Americana and into something uniquely Beatles. Norwegian Wood is a line in the sand - Indian instruments, acid lyrics and genuinely inventive. The recording quality is excellent (remastered version) and the vocal harmonies are pixel perfect. There are some humdrum songs, and I can't quite give it a 4
First Beatles album. This one feels rather "easy listening" which isn't a bad thing, but isn't great either. I prefer when they do more drugs and such. I feel like the songs are so short that they never get meaty enough for my liking, which I know isn't true for all of the Beatles stuff. There wasn't a bad song on here until the end when we decided to kill our bird. Fucks sake.
Simple straightforward songs for the most part but they have those solid vocals that the band is iconic for including the harmonies. I prefer the songs that lean away from that soft rock sound but appreciate the whole album for what it is. Nowhere Man, Norwegian Wood, Michelle, In My Life are the more interesting parts for me.
Not too bad of an album, some fun classics but overall, not a huge standout
yep, that's a beatles album. mostly unremarkable pop rock, with a couple more memorable tracks sprinkled about. vocal harmony is fun though, and the hooks are decent.
Really funny to get this right after an album that sort of reminded me of the Beatles. It was alright but I didn't find myself particularly blown away or engaged. Easy listen.
Im not really into folk but I enjoyed the electronic elements and mix of different instruments. Some songs were similar to one another and that made it kind of boring. Especially because they're more slow paste, I just felt like I was losing attention and I couldn't catch anything characteristic or new in the sound. But its over all a nice listen.
Are all the Beatles' albums on this list? Because surely we have to draw a line at some point. This was...fine?
I accept the influence this album had on a generation of musicians, but it didn't do much for me. There are people who listen to this and hear the complex interplay and power struggle between John and Paul. I just hear an album of songs from that time when "oldies" was becoming rock and roll.
258/1089 look, this is “good” if we’re trying to be objective and i am not disputing its influential nature. I just feel that the other albums of theirs (white, revolver and abbey road) are superior. Therefore, did i need to hear this one on this project? i’m not so sure i think it ends stronger than it started faves: If I Needed Someone, In My Life, Wait, The Word 61/100
Drive My Car has such a great guitar riff.
Bien, pour démarrer une journée. Plutot doux. J’aime la chanson Michelle à réécouter
Since I've already cleared the hurdle of rating/reviewing my first Beatles album (Abbey Road), I feel like I can afford to be a little more critical now. That's not to say I thought Rubber Soul was bad, it's just a perfectly adequate folk rock album – there's nothing here I'm chomping at the bit to tell my friends and family about, outside maybe "Norwegian Wood" or "In My Life." I guess it's fitting that this is one of the only Beatles Book Albums that I didn't recognize a single song title from (the other being With the Beatles). Highlights: Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown), The Word, Michelle, Girl, In My Life
6/10
very cool guitar! and other instruments too :) it has a summer-y boho-ish cool vibe! it doesn’t really have very relatable lyrics that i adore though, and i have to be in a very specific mood to pick this kind of music…
First beatle album, the mixing is definitely smth else
3/5
Let’s talk about Rubber Soul, the album critics treat like it descended from Mount Olympus, when in reality it feels more like a collection of diary entries from four men who had never heard the word “boundaries.” If this is emotional maturity, then I fear for the emotional state of 1965. This is the era where The Beatles supposedly “grew up.” And by “grew up,” I mean they started writing songs that sound like they were penned by guys who think being moody automatically makes them profound. The whole album radiates the energy of someone who buys one self‑help book and suddenly believes they’re a tortured poet. Ah yes, the part of Rubber Soul that fans love to pretend doesn’t exist. “Run for Your Life” is basically a jealous‑boyfriend threat set to a jaunty beat. Nothing says “timeless classic” like thinly veiled violence, right? “Girl” is a masterclass in romanticizing emotional labor. She’s exhausting, she’s dramatic, she’s too much—yet somehow he’s the victim. “You Won’t See Me” is the anthem of a man who refuses to consider that maybe—just maybe—he’s the problem. It’s like the band discovered introspection but forgot to apply it to their own behavior. Even if you ignore the lyrical side‑eye, the songs themselves blend together into a soft, strummy haze. It’s the kind of album that makes you check the tracklist to confirm you haven’t been listening to the same song on loop. “Norwegian Wood” is clever, sure, but it’s also a story about a guy who gets rejected and responds by… burning down a woman’s house. Charming. “In My Life” is the emotional high point, but that’s like saying the tallest building in a small town is impressive. It’s nice. It’s sweet. It’s not the revelation people pretend it is. By the midpoint, I felt like I was trapped in a vintage boutique where every song is played through a speaker that’s been collecting dust since the Johnson administration. The pacing drags, the energy sags, and the album seems determined to lull you into a state of mild, polite boredom. Beatles fans talk about Rubber Soul like it cured heartbreak, invented introspection, and personally taught humanity how to feel. In reality, it’s a transitional album with a couple of gems and a whole lot of “please stop Rubber Soul is historically important, yes. But it’s also uneven, overhyped, and sprinkled with enough casual misogyny to make you wonder why more people don’t mention it. A few standout tracks can’t save an album that mostly feels like homework wrapped in acoustic guitar.
- As I mentioned before, I used to listen to the Beatles a lot, but I don’t anymore now that I know that John engaged in DV and Paul is a Zionist. - I liked this album the most of all their albums, but I'm not that into it anymore and there are a lot of songs that really piss me off with the blatant sexism. - There are great songs on here, for example, Norwegian Wood, though now I know it's about cheating on his wife, which takes the charm away from it, Girl, In My Life (love the harpsichord), and I'm Looking Through You is one of my favourite Beatles songs. - That said, the other songs aren't that engaging, and I skip most of them (Drive My Car, Think For Yourself, The Word, What Goes On). And Run For Your Life is advocating for DA. - So, on relisten, I think that I just really liked the songs that I like, but overall, this isn't as good as I remember it to be.
Cool !
Sigh.
Beatles, i like but i havent heard this album before, nice. But kind of boring, very few different songs
I have to just come out and admit that I really never liked this album. For all the studio brilliance this band created, the production here sounds like the album they had to make to get to Revolver. And there are actual moments on the record I genuinely don't like. John sucking in air on every chorus of Girl is really unpleasant. And the closing track is a low point. The opening four tracks are special in the way most of the music they made is. The rest of the record? Man... I guess there's one too many Beatles records on this list for me.
One of the albums of all time
not the best beatles album, id give 4 but i know there are many wayyyyy better albums out there
I mean it’s the Beatles
A true transitional album. You can hear the pop group they were but you can also hear them striving to be more. There's no "I Want to Hold Your Hand" or "She Loves You" on Rubber Soul, but there's also no "Eleanor Rigby." What we do get is: - The guitar production and embrace of minor chord harmonies on "Wait" - The dark boogie of "Think for Yourself" - "Girl"'s memorable slow inhale in the chorus and its simple "dueling" guitar solo - "Michelle," which is basically a perfect song, from the backing vocals to the Chet Atkins style guitar to the way the instruments work together in the intro and tag to the French lyrics - The hand and leg percussion in the verses of "I'm Looking Through You" - The somber nostalgia of "In My Life," a beautiful and sad song I think people cite the sitar of "Norwegian Wood" as the turning point for this band. I think it's a super weird song, because it sounds like Celtic folk to me, lyrically name-checks a Scandinavian country, and prominently features an Indian instrument that had never been used in a Western rock recording before. I've never cared much for it. The true turning point for me comes on their next album, with "Eleanor Rigby," one of the greatest songs that's ever existed. This album is described as a "folk rock" album and I'm sure that's why I have never really connected with it as a complete work. When I think of individual songs, there's a lot to like, but I do feel like a lot of these songs are only something like halfway there, when compared to what they achieved on Revolver just eight months later. This is supposed to be the album that made everyone else want to focus on the album as an art form, and I'll never fully understand it in context, but its folksy sound has never made me want to explore it deeper.
A good bop/sway along. No stand out favourites here
Looovely. It’s not my fave Beatles album but there are some faves on here, and that’s good enough for me.
Never really grew up listening to the Beatles (obviously aware of them) and haven’t listened to one of their albums before. I was surprised that I knew Drive My Car (without knowing it was them), interesting to listen to Norwegian Wood a decade after reading the novel, album as a whole was fine but I just could never see myself loving a Beatles song
First: It's crazy that their previous album was Help. Of course it was a huge step artistically. Then: Does it really work that well as an album? They put their choir track over all the tracks - that's about what it holds it together. Sure, a few great tracks like In my life or Michelle, but otherwise not really a great album, at least not by Beatles standards.
3.5
Basic
Well what a surprise.
They are clearly ahead of their time here, but it just didn't move me emotionally at all.
I'm slowly going through their catalog and starting to realize that I might really like The Beatles. This one's not my favorite but there's good stuff here.
Ok album with interesting things going on every now and then. Didn't blow my mind but wasn't a chore to listen through the whole thing.
tuvo buena
Eh. 3.1
De los más accesibles.
It's a nice album, I would say nothing very interesting. More background songs to be honest
dang what are we talkin bout here? classic record from the most classic band. last song aged poorly but overall this is an easy recommend and its not even in my top 3 beatles record.
Yep, that sounds like a Beatles album. I mean, this is just decent to good pop rock. I really don’t understand how people can rave about this. Like, I enjoyed it, but it’s so simple I don’t know what’s supposed to be exciting about this. Some decently catchy songs, but I’ve heard so much better. It’s a fun first listen, but I don’t see how this can stay with me for any considerable amount of time. 7/10
nie dla mnie
Lots of great things happening in this album from great lyricism to incredible harmony and chemistry within the group, this a good album to vibe to. But I feel like songs could have been much longer I feel like the shorter 2-3 minute songs made it feel like I couldn't take in the entire song and I would've just loved to hear more of the group's instrumentation and creativity given more time. 6/10, Favorite Song: If I Needed Someone
it definitely is a the beatles album!
thanks for pet sounds
meh
It's classic. I think, everybody should listen to The Beatles...at least once
The start of the greatest run of albums in history?
A nice album completely ruined by one song
Good album, great title, excellent band, the celebratory sing-a-long misogyny is horrible. Three stars. Tom.
Never been a Beatles fan. A mix of songs that must have been radio favoutites as I recognise them other hearing for first time. Seems like a bit of a mish mash of songs and styles. Where the hell did country sounding "What goes on" come from?
I keep trying to like the beatles but whenever listening to their albums my mind just drift to other things. To be clear, their sound is enjoyable, it is just not something extraordinary to me.
I used to love Michelle when I was into these lads. I still like it but i don't actively choose to listen to it. This album isn't so bad as some.. I can tolerate...
Not the biggest Beatles fan but some great classics
Not terrible, but not terribly interesting. The Beatles are the most overrated band in history.
Not heard many of these songs before. Sounded OK but I expecting more to be honest!
I’m too spoiled having listened to White Album (genuinely might be a top 10 ever album for me now) early in this and nothing will ever measure up. Good solid jangly pop though. Cool to see just how impactful they are that 3 of the 4 first tracks have films named or inspired by them
I don't care for the Beatles, and I remember feeling like everything wanted me to care about the Beatles in the late 2000s. iTunes got the Beatles catalog, 'Across the Universe' pins were adorned on messenger bags, and 'The Beatles: Rock Band' was the game to get. There was all of this, but the hits I would hear from their albums did not click (except for Sgt. Peppers, that is my Beatles carve-out). I think my tepid feelings for the Beatles also stem from not liking John Lennon, but that rant will be saved when we get to Imagine. Now that I have to listen to the Beatles, I can say that I liked this album a good bit. I liked the songs with unique sounds (such as the sitar in 'Norwegian Wood' and the sped-up piano in 'In My Life'). The album is close to a 4 for me, but I am not willing to shake my past sentiments as easy as I did with Nirvana. The deduction is also for ending with such a weak and uncomfortable song. Sure, they have mature and thoughful lyrics like in 'In My Life' but they end it with the "Daddy is going to kill his little girl" song.
Did the Beatles do it first and everyone followed the sound? Whatever the case, almost everything from the mid-60's sounds like the Scooby Doo soundtrack - the guitar tones, over use of the tamborine and maracas, cheesy harmonies - and I don't like it. I'll give it 3 stars, though, because of Norwegian Wood and In My Life.
I have to think about secondary school music education, our teacher used Beatles songs to teach us about structure of music, verses etc. Not really my music, but some great classics on here.
I never think of this as a favourite Beatles album of mine but it does have some of my faves like Michelle, Drive my Car, In my Life. But I think this made me realise the gap between good Beatles songs and bad Beatles songs is SO vast. The definitely feel like a band that just threw everything at the wall in the hopes some stuff stuck. As people I think I prefer the Beatles, but musically I think I’m a Stones kinda gal.
Sympa sympa
Repeat listen
Extremely pleasant, but I admit some of the overplayed songs I’m not fond of…
I love the beatles, but the only track on here that I really dug was In My Life
It's fine. Bored.
Unremarkable. I literally don't remember any of the songs after listening. Still, mostly pleasant.
Good listen, enjoyed thoroughly l
classic
3.5 stars.
moj prvi beatles album, kinda nervous!
enjoyable but a bit boring to me. the 2:00 track length fromat across the album makes has me cross eyed as it bops between tracks that are making similar musical statement over and over. feels like a collection of singles rather than the type of album i typically appreciate...one that takes me on a journey. credit them tho, it definitely turned into a collection of singles because im sure most of these songs are considered classics. if this is a step in a new direction for the beatles....if feels more like a turn towards where they will go, rather than a first big step...one foot is still firmly planted in teeny boppin beatles highlights: accoustic lick/sitar on NORWEGIAN WOOD. MICHELLE'S melancholly trot. everything about IM LOOKING THROUGH YOU. IN MY LIFE's unexpected and weird baroque bridge.
Can't say I loved it but it was an easy, quick listen.
not my taste
