Reviews (page 8 of 8)

Never heard of them before and kind of know why after listening

Tedious

Absolutely mediocre. Artist could have saved a bunch of time and just not made this album. Maybe not a single interesting sequence of notes happened in this entire thing. Like FOR EXAMPLE Scott 2 was bad/weird but at least it made me think thoughts, this one was just straight nothing at all. I can see how they're a direct influence of many other supermarket mid rock artists still around to this day, so I can at least respect that a little 2.4/10

Now this is the kind of garbage I was waiting for. Typical boring gen-x drek

Not interested.

I should love this; Indie Rock, Power Pop, Jangle Pop, Alternative Rock from 1991 I don’t. Just wall of guitars rhythm so no favourite songs

It’s like the worst parts of Sonic youth became a band

probably got on a list by mistake

Could not make it thru this LP at all. Found it to be poorly recorded and produced. Don't know how anyone voted album of the year.

Bei Song 4 abgebrochen… es zündet überhaupt nicht. Beatles, Rock, was ist das?

I didn’t connect with this album or band. Nothing from it got my attention, nor the music, neither the lyrics.

just too much feedback

Some good guitar tones but the vocals felt very out of place. At least there was an instrumental track at the end.

just annoyed at this type of music at this point

Teenage Fanclub answers the important question of - what if the Gin Blossoms were Scottish and better reviewed than Nirvana? This is very jangly, very early 90s alternative rock.

Not a fan. The guitar work is downright terrible. It's that noise pop crap I hated in my youth. It was a struggle to finish this (even with YouTube gratefully blocking 5 of the 12 tracks - which I didn't even bother to subsequently track down). I guess this means I didn't technically hear this album, but I can totally live with that.

Alternative band since the 90’s. Music ok. No real hits.

Hey Teenage Fanclub, what you do to me ? except this nod to the Beatles in the MV...nothing...really nothing inspiring. Supposedly one of the famous 1991 album (what a year for music !)...sorry I am not into the club.

Vraiment pas mon style,

No offense, but this was one of if not the most boring, literally repetitive (like the same sentence over and over again for the entirety of a song) and just plain stupid albums that I’ve heard lately. Not good at all. It may be music, but either way bad music.

I listened to this album twice yesterday and remember nothing about it.

Not feeling confident after seeing the MS Paint cover. I could have gotten Nevermind or Loveless or Screamadelica or Low End Theory but noooo, the RNG had to give me this gen x sludge. The Concept opens the album with a by the numbers indie rock number with some truly atrocious lyrics although some nice harmonisation in the chorus. They add insult to injury with a few minutes of prog guitar noodling at the end. Last 20 seconds of Satan rocks but only increases my concern that the rest of the album is going to be ponderous and frustrating. December confirms my suspicions. What You Do to Me recovers a bit with an acceptable glam number (although the lyrics remain vapid). I Don't Know occasionally has some My Bloody Valentine style dissonance but otherwise remains in the comfortably mediocre depths. Star Sign continues the primary school level rhyming (why do they sing with American accents?). Metal Baby has some nice jangly moments but is let down by a forgettable chorus and would have had more impact at half the length. Pet Rock as a title and as a track perfectly encapsulates what this album is. Tenor sax in a rock song tells you all you need to know about their sensibilities. By the time we get to Sidewinder I'm ready to hit the eject button. The final track Is This Music is actually pretty alright, the fact that it's an instrumental should clue you in to what's wrong with the album. The drums sound like they were recorded inside a sofa. There are occasional noisy bits at the start and end of all their songs. They would have had much better effect stringing those together and releasing it as a single than wasting my time with this nonsense.

boring as hell

1. concept - 0 2. zatan - 0 3. me - 1 4. knouu - 1 5. ztar - 1 6. baby - 1 7. rock - 1 8. zide - 1 9. holiday - 1 10. muzic - 0

The opening intro was too long. The singer is way too soft spoken for me. This whole album feels boring. Not sure how it beat Nirvana

The safest 90s album I have ever heard. Every song is very simple in that they are formatted the same way, guitar riff with like 3 progressions, the same tempo for vocals, very basic drumline, the bassist does his job and then the song is done. Just really not for me. 2/10

definitely not my style

I listen to two songs to determine this was drivel.

Whiny boring album that I hope to never suffer through again.

Couldn't listen to one full song. 1/5

Genetic

I do not understand why this is included. I know I may be wrong; maybe it is my "taste", but I listened to it three times and could not get excited about it or find a reason to listen again.

worthless. id rather sit in silence and not do anything for an hour NNN prev. YYN

hooly. ehkä top abumi nimi tähän mennessä, valitettavasti kontentti on aikaista 90-luku rokin tappamista.. heinähangot kädessä nämä bändit varrastavat viimeiset rokin jäänteet.. tässä vaiheessa jo kuollut.. ja vieläkin hakataan päätä ihan tohjoksi.. ei ole täysin armahtamaton albumi, joitain hyviä sektioita muutamassa biisissä, silti, yhden päivän slotin turhaan on viety taas tälläselle is this musici

Too much guitar into to each song

I don’t want to be here, the singer sounds as if he doesn’t want to be here as well.

Not for me.... At all...Ever...

Youtube Music only gave me four tracks of the album.

Boring.

The part of 90s alternative that sounds too much like pop...like a highschool band. Not for me.

Generic 90's alternative. Really didn't care for this at all.

Been told this is a garage band style and I hate it. Sounds like all the background drums and bass just random notes. Wild music I guess.

Im so glad I didn't spend 9 quid in the nineties to buy their shitty cassette and instead bought a sheep on drugs vinyl! Absoulute indie arse, nothing interesting at all.

Yes, that might be the worst album on this list so far! Other bad albums were very experimental and went over my head a little, or were in a genre I don't enjoy at all, whereas "Bandwagonesque" doesn't take any chances, it's a safe, traditional soft rock and somehow it's the most boring record I have ever heard. It's so bland that I don't have anything else to add. It's just a no from me.

90s alternative nostalgia, but absent the initial popularity

Pretty bad, did not enjoy this at all. 1.3

Is this music? Yes. Do I absolutely hate it? Also yes.

Horrific if I could I would leave no star

This is 100% my balls. Got excited about the opening feedback only to find myself instantly limp when the song actually started. Boring, no substance, “alternative rock” bullshit. Lets compare this low effort, soulless, pile of shit to releases from other bands that same year (1991): 1. Nirvana - Nevermind 2. R.E.M. - Out of Time 3. Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger 4. Pearl Jam - Ten 5. Dinosaur Jr - Green Mind 6. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik 7. Pixies - Trompe le Monde 8. The Smashing Pumpkins - Gish 9. Primus - Sailing the Seas of Cheese 10. Green Day - Kerplunk 11. Machines of Loving Grace - Machines of Loving Grace 12. NOFX - Ribbed Get the fuck out of here Teenage Fanclub, you don’t belong. I actually wish I’d died before listening to this. 0/10 would never listen again.

I was afraid I would like this after everyone said how bad it was, fortunately for me I agree! Every time I thought a song was going to get good it took a nose dive and got worse and sometimes even worse after that! The lyrics and the vocals were just very very bad. I also am confused about how this made it on this list and now I am questioning what we will see in the future.

Blep. Why was this on here? I didn’t listen to the whole thing but it basically sucked.

Do not liek. I found this album very…. bland. “Is This Music?” is, to me, the best song on the album. A little surprised this album ended up on this list…?

Not great. Kind of drab and Nathan-esque.

Dunno either

Plutôt ennuyant, faux et intintéressant.

I found this album very boring and droning.

Bullshit

I am downgrading this album’s generous two-star rating by a star because the knuckleheads at Spin magazine decided that this album was the better 1991 album of the year than Nevermind.

They sound like a local garage rock band that you might find entertaining 30 some odd college stoners in a run down bar on a Tuesday night. Which is an awesome and important role to have, but doesn't mean this poorly produced and entirely forgettable album belongs anywhere near a list like this.

Fairly safe and stuck in its influences. This album is pretty and pleasant but doesn't really jump out to me much.

I'm kinda hating the project now. I'm 121 albums in, and the idiot who made this list is right only serendipitously.

Vraiment pas ouf Du mauvais supergrass

Not for me

Feels like the kind of album you must have been there to really enjoy it.

Didn’t click with me, which is peculiar considering I enjoy most other bands from that genre/era. I’d choose Pavement and/or Dinosaur Jr over Teenage Fanclub any day, but I can see why others would like choose otherwise.

Didn’t like

Infumable

If this album generator has helped me discover one thing, it's that I don't love early 90's British indie rock.

Not realy my thing.
