Reviews (page 6 of 8)
Nice I liked the final track a lot
Sounded. Good, quite relaxing but also pretty forgetable
flat?
Never knew this album
A lot of this sounds like something that would play over the end credits of Dawson's Creek or maybe during a Ross/Rachel breakup montage. Wild that they didn't have to give Lynyrd Skynyrd a songwriting credit for the opening track. Best track: Guiding Star
Top 3 Songs: 1 - Is This Music? (12) 2 - Star Sign (6) 3 - Pet Rock (8)
Thought this was a surprisingly good album. Haven’t heard of the band or album before. They have a solid alternative sound that came out in the early 90s prior to a lot of other good alternative bands. The guitars made a lot of songs enjoyable and brought a few songs to a higher level. None of the songs were that catchy but they were consistent and simple which in this case works. 7.2/10
Its worthy of being in the rotation.
This is kind of, boring? Just sounds like generic rock. No great singing or instruments. 5/10.
Remember when Spin said this was better than Loveless and Nevermind? That sure aged well.
ehh. very much ehh.
first listen boring
I somehow missed this album and band entirely despite its apparent success when released. I enjoyed some of the guitar leads but not much else. The entire thing felt sort of anemic to me and like so many other alternative rock albums from the 90s/2000s.
It was alright.
Now we know which was the group Noel and Liam Gallagher took all their ideas from, including several suspiciously similar guitar riffs. Other than that, why most of the songs have a girl as a protagonist? Bit annoying really. Nonetheless, I loved the melodies and the voice of the main singer, and the harmonies too.
Meh. Not bad, not great. Kind of boring.
It alright
kinda good?
First couple songs sound like the music you'd find in a 90s teenage romcom. Pretty light rock. Slower, jangly guitars with a focus on vocal melody. A little too light rock for me, only saved 1 song to my Spotify
Very easy listening rock
It was fine, not great
I want to love this, but it's just missing something
Not what I expected of 90s music. Gave me pleasant vibes like 60s California easy rock
I've heard the name of Teenage Fanclub before, but I can't remember hearing any of their music. Bandwagonesque could be described as a power pop album. Various tracks reminded me of Weezer, the Eels, Sonic Youth, and above all the Replacements. There was definitely an early 90s feel to the album. "December", "I Don't Know", and "Is This Music?" were the tracks that I liked the most. The album was fine, but I'm not sure if I'll remember having heard it later on.
I was kind of expecting to like this but it didn't do much for me on the first listen and second go around I still wasn't able to get much into it. Maybe this album needs a time and a place. Fave: Metal Baby
Hmmmm, I didn't listen to this at the time so it's not getting a nostalgia bump. It seems kinda.... unremarkable? Not sure why it got so much acclaim, but maybe it pioneered some stuff that's become so commonplace I now just take it for granted? I can see my affection for it might grow with more listens... Fave track - "Sidewinder", perhaps, or "Metal Baby"...
Enjoyable, especially the last track which I loved. 3
I feel like younger me would have really enjoyed this.
I didn't know this band before already, I quite like this album! It's not just a 90s sound but also really pulls you back to a 90s feel. I do notttt like all the tracks particularly Satan is stressful for me haha straight outta hell.
This was okay, had some really nice guitar solos in it but overall it was a bit bland. Some dreary uninspiring lyrics and then a cool guitar solo.
Nice
Du alternative bin ordinaire. S'écoute bien mais aucun moment fort
Decent distorted bubble gum pop!
Rating: 6/10
Fine, but nothing that grabbed me or would lead me to listen to it again
Liked it. Sounds like the precipice of grunge, but has a sort of beach boys thing going every so often. Nicer vocals than the later grunge scene.
Some fun tracks on here, kinda sounded american to me which is weird since they're scottish apparently
I enjoyed it and the melodies were great, just boring. I probably wouldn't revisit.
Pretty cool early alt rock album. Doesn't have quite the oomph to keep my attention, but worth a listen.
03/21/22
I already listened to some new releases of this band (actually, I didn't even know that they were a 90's band), but this album sounds so different that I didn't recognize the band as the same as their newer albums. This one is a very nice 90's indie rock with some good songs and a little bit of extravagance. Nothing so remarkable, but a good album for a Friday morning.
This one was fine. Had some good alt-rock riffs. Sounds like the beginning of bands like Oasis and Weezer. I enjoyed it, but it's not memorable.
Some great songs. Very very nearly a 4 from me
Good musical ideas, catchy tunes, one seems to hear the Byrds in some of them. Unfortunately, the arrangements are primal and make the songs forgettable.
Nice tight pop music.
Eh, I listened to some of it.
Sounds like the 90s
Album cover had me wondering just how old is MS Paint. Don't hate this, don't love this. Mostly bland.
Feels like a precursor to weezer.
This is a fun listen. I’ve had a few of their songs appear on my Spotify playlists, but listening to this entire album gives me a better appreciation for them. This early shoegaze is not as annoying as My Bloody Valentine because it’s more melodic and you can actually hear what they’re singing. There are so many influences here, or were they the influencers? I’m too lazy to check the timelines. I hear Weezer, Foo Fighters, Oasis, Beatles and Beach Boys harmonies. A lot of great indie rock here, particularly the Concept and Star Sign,
Pretty forgettable.
I really liked this. Might be worth a higher rating on further listening.
16th December 2021 Listened in the morning before going back for a wander around Granville and having nandos and watching twilight in the evening! Liked this a lot, new age era but timeless and down to earth rock.
Saved: I don't know, Star Sign, Pet Rock, Alcoholiday, Is this Music? Absolutely solid Scottish alternative album, bit repetitive, but not every album has to be experimental.
A bit disappointed. It's a good mix of Californian style harmonies & Scottish style indie rock but is it really that special?
Started strong then just wafted off into nothingness. Not bad just parts that were forgotten
Solid alt.rock album
Pretty decent, interesting sound
Sweet album! Fav new track: December
Enjoyable Garage Rock. No More No Less
Power pop perfection with Iron-Bru coursing through the tunes. See? Glasgow can't be all that bad. Best Tracks: The Concept; What You Do To Me; Is This Music?
Very sweet sentiments and harmonies. Feels like California, but by Scots! I do like the guitar sound, but it is a pity there is very little change across the album.
It's good, but most of the tracks don't really stand out. Favorite tracks are Satan and Alcoholiday
-I like the jam at the beginning of "Satan," it is reminiscent of The Who smashing their instruments/jamming, and it is a good jam throughout -I like the story and bass line of "Metal Baby." I also like the distorted guitar solo stuff at the end -Just like, not very exciting
Fun album - good genre
Post grunge era had its merits
I did not find anything remarkable in this album. No distinctively characteristic memorable features in the compositions with their fairly good quality
Delightful.
Some good 90's power pop here, (ALT Power Pop?) Love "What You Do To Me" as a Faux Beatles track and their use of harmonies on Sidewinder & December is so reminiscent of the Beach Boys. A good listen though.
This was pretty cool. Really clean and poppy I was getting some Oasis or Sloan vibes. Some fun production on the instrumental album closer - almost sounded like bagpipes a little bit. Fav tracks: “What You Do To Me” , “Is This Music?”
Lost interest halfway through. Wasn't, just not in the mood.
solid album
I come from this period in time. This is an album that critics loved but the people didn’t. This is some sort of REM meets grunge. It’s very polished. That’s not what grunge was. It doesn’t have the rawness of Nevermind.
Very of its time. Decent listen but nothing that hits you.
It was alright. Bit weird. Not my thing but worth listening to.
I like their clear, strong sound. The repetition in sound and themes got boring by the end though.
These guys were definitely listening to Big Star and Cheap Trick. Power pop to the max. Though this tends to stick more to the mellower Big Star sound than the slightly more fun/upbeat sound of Cheap Trick. Probably one of the worst album covers I've ever seen. Did they have a 5 minute conversation about what the cover should look like and then go straight over to MS Paint and crank it out in 5 more minutes? Nailed it! And the whole business with Gene Simmons owning the copyright to the image of a cash bag with a dollar sign on it is mind bogglingly ridiculous. Reason #473 why Gene Simmons is a fucking piece of shit.
Kind of like it, but not enough that I'd seek it out. If it was on the radio I wouldn't change it though.
I had not heard of Teenage Fanclub until now. 1991’s album of the year over Nevemind? Come on Spin magazine, that’s atrocious. I’m not saying this album is atrocious. The album is OK. And the record company paid off Kiss’s Gene Simmons because he trademarked a bag with the $ on it? That’s stupid. These are my two takeaways from this album.
Bueno, no se me hizo tan especial
Got to song 2
Leuke nummers zijn o.a. "The Concept" en "What you do to me". ***
I think that 15 year old me might have liked this 25 years ago, similar to The Charlatans or maybe Ash. Not where I’m at right now but I’ll give it a 3 from the person I used to be.
Uninspired early 90s alternative. Nothing too bad, but relatively risk free with a number of tracks indistinguishable from one another.
It is just an ok album. Not really noteworthy.
Some pretty mellow sounds here. Like Big Star-lite.
European Nickelback. A couple of good songs, the rest is not for me.
not bad
Was a little bit unsure about what I was in for at the start of the first track, but ended up enjoying it enough. Not amazing, but not bad either.
Pleasant, but no one track really stood out to me.
True to 90's vintage, but otherwise not notable. Competent musicians with passable songwriting.
Not bad, but also not doing much for me. Kinda boring.
Rätt bra album. Många låtar låter likadant. Känns ändå rätt före sin tid. Bästa låtar: The Concept What You Do to Me Is This Music?
3 1/2
This one is new to me, Probably wouldn't have ever stumbled into it if it wasn't for this thing. I don't really think it's my style to be honest. I think the writing is pretty good, the instrumentation is very passable. The vocals are solid. Everything about this albums seem good. and because of that I really wished I liked it more. I'm not upset I listened to this album, Listened to it twice actually was hoping it would hit a bit better the second time round. And it didn't really at all. But hey it's not horrible, just not my speed is all. Metal baby, the concept, and what you do to me were my favorites of the bunch.
Enjoyable and good rock music. Nothing special at all, but still good.
A pleasant indie rock album that leans heavily towards the power pop genre. Often messy yet very melodic music. I like how they played with the usual tension between feeling lovesick and the moments of euphoria. The album feels familiar and thats a good thing. And surprisingly consistent. There isn't anything to hate here even if it isn't what I would truly adore.
Meh
Another one I had to listen to on shuffle, so that may make an impact on score. Not sure what to rate this one, somewhere between 3 & 4 was decent, but not really anything special to me. Probably a 3.5 but I’ll rate it as 3 cus I think there has been better 4s.
I liked this more than some others - some of the transitions felt a little off though (e.g. 'Satan' to 'December'). Wish I could give this 3.5 - it's not quite a 4.
Started strong but felt like it lost momentum

3,5
A decent grunge album
Bueh
"I didn't want to hurt you"
who knew this is what jeffrey epstein would make his music sound like. nowhere near as noncey as the bandname suggests. maybe if you play it backwards on a turntable it gives you an invitation to his noncing island.
Well, Nigel Spackman knows a thing or two about teenage fan clubs, let me tell you. As a footballing superstar and high street heart throb, I often had to deal with groups of young...boys screaming in my presence. At first it's exciting and you love the attention, but soon it begins to chip away at your soul. The smile once so bright, becomes dimmer and you start to hate the little fuckers. "Nigel! Nigel! Give us a wave. Can we have an autograph? What are you having for supper? Can we get in the bath with you again?". Tiring. I didn't hit that boy though, no matter what you've read. He deserved it, but I didn't hit him. I should have hit him.
It"s fine, if not unremarkable. I'd use some of the songs in a coming of age indie movie set in Wisconsin.
Hmmm, errrr, yeah, some good bits?
A couple of standouts and I’m not against it but need to be in the mood for this type. Can hear it’s influence in a lot of stuff though.
Not bad
Jeugdsentiment. Tijdloos wat mij betreft.
David Batty
Well... The tunes themselves are pretty good but the vocals and lyrics are just awful. Shame

Would give a 3.5 if i could. Really enjoyed the first half, but the second half didn’t stand out much to me. The guitar was really amazing throughout and overall I enjoyed the feel the whole time.
Enjoyable and melodic, but not something I'd return to every day.
Meh.
Reminds me of Weezer, but like a very good version with really talented musicians.
Nice summer time feel. Kinda reminds me of Weezer.
Pretty Good. A little generic at some points but i really enjoyed it as it went on
Not an album to listen to before you die
enjoyed this, the final song was really good but could of gone for way longer
I think the album started off really well for me but somewhat fell off a little bit toward the end. But the guitar in basically every song was absolutely incredible. I liked the occasional instrumental being thrown in. But I don’t know if I’ll ever listen to any of the songs from the album again, making it a 3.
A good album, no song stood out as great but then again none were bad either
Starting to worry about the annoyance to discovery factor on this list. Honestly found this bizarre- mixing workmanlike if slightly plodding ballads with some of the sloppier guitar soloing I've heard, plus some feedback-noise cacophany elements without Hendrix level virtuosity to hold them together. Not a lot of meat on the bone.
Good classic rock feels
Enjoyed the listen.
This is fine for background noise, but it's not something I would seek out, really. It gives me Beatles vibes, but a bit heavier.

Nothing to write home about
hm
Meh
Forgettable indie/experimental sounding rock. It’s fine
Did SPIN magazine make a mistake ranking this over Nevermind in 1991? Yes. Lol. Yes. It is VERY much 90s jangle pop, if that's your vibe or you really like old power pop, then you'll love this, but it's not doing a ton for me. I like a lot of the guitar work, but the vocals and the general songwriting aren't my favorite, and I think the back half is a lot stronger than the first. It really reminded me of another album that dropped a few years later, Weezer (Blue), which I think has a lot of similar power pop vibes, but was much more musically and lyrically compelling. Alcoholiday and Is This Music? are probably my favorite tracks, would have liked more tracks to grab me like those
Good power pop but not my fav of theirs.
It's alright. Kind of zoned me out for a while in the middle. Could imagine hanging in a Seattle coffee shop or record shop while this record played over the speakers. Favorite track: "The Concept", "Is This Music?"
3.5/5. Mostly enjoyable, kinda catchy, noisy pop. Standout Tracks: The Concept, Metal Baby, Alcoholiday
early 90s alt-rock that doesn't really go anywhere, just kinda stares at its own shoes... but not in an annoying way like my bloody valentine. sounds a lot like oasis, but obvs predates them. i'd never heard it before but will probably add it to the "listen every now and then" list along with stuff like soul asylum and the gin blossoms, but not the whole album. dragged on a bit towards the end, the last 4-5 songs seemed to go for about half an hour on their own. 3/5.
Blech. This wasn’t for me. Sounded like generic 90s grunge rock.
Ok
Very neutral. Need to read about this one.
Listens: 2 Standout Tracks: None Man, I imagine this album is going to get skewered in the reviews. Its not terribly bad per se, but that magazine voting it album of the year over REM's Out of Time AND Nirvana's Nevermind is basically a war crime. Albums that people listen to and talk about 35 years later: Nevermind Albums that most people have never even heard of, let alone talk about: Bandwagonesque. The album is just largely unremarkable. Its sort of grungy, sort of alternative rock. There might be a good hook or two somewhere in the 43 minutes of music, but I can't be bothered to go hunting for it. It's getting to the point where I see "Scottish rock band" and my head starts to swim with memories of the likes of The Incredible String Band, Primal Scream, The Shamen and The Blue Nile (which, the last band I actually kind of liked). This is boring music. You will be bored. You will want to just go put on something else to get rid of the monotony.
I thought I would like this more than I did.
Outside of nice guitar tones, I thought the songwriting on this was profoundly boring. Just the most cookie cutter rock chord progressions and melodies.
Not good, but not in a super-irritating way. Derivative and unmemorable. A 2.
Catchy power pop tunes
Bit of a nothingburger, definitely not an album I needed to listen to before I died.
It was ok. Started off well, but lots of songs blend together. Standout songs: The Concept Metal Baby
This is a low-key type of album. That said, there's some parts that I like, but now many.
This is just boring pop-rock with little to no differentiation between songs. Like if Brit-pop just stopped trying.
Forgettable. Pop rock and did not seem like much
Singing ruins this. The post punk structure combined with a melancholic voice blows.
Has foundations of Oasis and The Wildhearts which was interesting. However, the song quality is not up to that level.
I had it on in the background and I didn’t notice the album finished
Eh. Lots of teenage angst. Alright, just not for me
Absolutely nothing to say about this one. Its was so middling that I just cant find words for it. It played and I didnt hate it. I didnt like it in any way either. It just happened and thats it. And thats kinda one of the worst things you can be.
Nop
I probably would have disliked it less if someone else was singing, or the existing singer used a less droney bored sounding style. Some of the music was alright.
Easy listening.. Not sure why it's on the list though.
It was fine, had some good pop songs but didn't feel very memorable. This was also overhyped when it came out.
Meh. Pretty boring and very forgettable.
Was not anything special but nice chill rock. Favorite songs: Guiding Star and the Concept
Number: 99 Date: 04/11/2026 Artist: Teenage Fanclub Album: Bandwagonesque Year: 1991 Genre: Dream Pop Rating: 2 Notes: Before: ======= My girlfriend had this album back then and listened to it a lot, therefore I listened to it a lot. Must say must songs were quite alike, and a bit too many guitars in there for me
- Okay, 2.5 rounded up for competency and sounding like Big Star ...... but minus 1 star because the writing just isn't very good. -
Satan
They have a good sound, but it was a bit too samey. Like an album of putting the same Gin Blossom's song on repeat. I liked it well enough, but I wouldn't say I liked the album as much.
Try to imagine the most generic-sounding "just-slightly-harder-than-soft-rock" music from the early 90s. That's what this sounds like. That one magazine picked this as "album of the year" over Nevermind--an album that truly is one of the greatest of all time--speaks more to the mindless conservatism of rock critics than to the quality here. Nirvana began with some of the same trite concepts that permeate this album, but then smashed them into genius with angry licks and biting satire. These guys play it straight, which is why they are (and maybe why the should be) largely forgotten.
Not enjoyable
Pretty forgettable. There were some good tracks, but on the whole, it was pretty average. meh
Oh my lord my eyes (and ears)
I like power pop music, and I've tried this album multiple times, but it's never managed to grab me.
The more of these albums, I listen to the less patient I become. I was really trying to give each album its due, but after listening to the first four songs on this album, I didn’t care to listen to the rest.
if this album was something you heard on youtube on a random finding, it would be ok for a lazy afternoon, having it on the background and not thinking. But this is supposed to be one of 1000+ albums that you MUST hear. In that sense, there's nothing remarkable here. It's not even too experimental, or plainly boring. Disappointing.
This was a hard album to have a truly solid opinion on. I was on the fence for a while because to be honest I was just so underwhelmed. There were moments i enjoyed, but as a whole it didn’t really do anything to grab my imagination. I listened to this album like 4 or five times and I still only saved metal baby, star sign, and is this music?. I wish I had something more to say that was more insightful or helpful, but honestly I just think power pop is the most underwhelming and boring genre I could possibly think of. It’s just soft rock that’s made to be “lowest common denominator” type of music, crowd pleasing, and I just find this whole genre to be boring.
Muidu on ikka kohutavalt igav rokk. Weezer ilma šarmi, ilma mõtteta ja ilma meeldejääva vokaali/pillimänguta. 2.2/5
Couldn't decide if it was a anachronistic as an 80's album or a 90's album. I didn't hate it but it never found its footing with me.
A very safe 90’s alternative album. Nothing really stood out.
Cool
Don’t really get why this is on this list.
Not feelin it brother 2/5
belongs on the list of 1001 most boring albums
knew the name but have never listened to them. very 90s alternative
This album completely drifted into the background for me, nothing particularly special about it. I'm not part of the fanclub and I refuse to jump on the bandwagon.
Quite unremarkable
Pretty anodyne. I don’t see what makes this special. 2.5
Meh, not my cup of tea.
I started to enjoy this when the album finished. Reminded me a little bit like the Gin Blossoms.
Not bad but quite forgettable
Rating: 4/10 Really started to veer the line of irritating to me as I was just not getting into the songwriting. I think at the point of Star Sign and Metal Baby I had decided that this record just wasn’t going to work for me at the moment, which is a shame because some sweet power pop tunes with a little bit of noisy feedback isn’t theoretically something I should be turned off from. Extra shame that I was actually really into that first track and nothing hit the same at all the further into Bandwagonesque I got. Maybe I can get more into this band one day but for now I’ve got plenty of other indie rock I can reach for.
Loved the last track but cannot even begin to describe how much "Metal Baby" annoyed me.
I don't hate it, but I wouldn't listen unless encouraged.
Felt kind of boring and too tryhard... maybe it just wasn't my style
Fine
Meh
Mid
Meh?
Mediocre sing songy pop tunes with a feigned edge. Not much here. “Metal baby” got stuck in my head, but otherwise an unremarkable album.
Eh, it was okay. It won't be one I remember or return to, but it was good background music while I worked. It reminded me of the season of fall for some reason.
Man I feel like I've heard this band and album a thousand times in this album listening thing.
A little meh to me. Could be way better. Or no....
Extremely dull
Oops end
The Raspberries got there first, and better.
Lame pop rock not really good but listenable.
The songs sound messy
Oh man, this is so generic and without emotion. Every song looks the same. Well, it has some calm vibe, but it sure is not for me.
This came out while I was sophomore in college and somehow did not come into my world. And I’m glad for that. Temu Weezer. 2/5
Not really
++: I Don't Know, Alcoholiday, Guiding Star +: December, Metal Baby +-: The Concept, What You Do to Me, Star Sign, Pet Rock, Sidewinder, Is This Music? -: Satan 4,1/10
This album had promise when it started out, but just sounded like much of the same stuff over and over. Not too great.
Okay
Some nice riffs, but overall didn't connect to it. Fine to listen to.
I mean it's ok, it simply didn't do anything at all to pull me in.
Kinda basic, unclear why it's here. Not bad, just not outstanding.
I liked their sound a lot, but didn't hear much in terms of memorable songs.
I've never listened to this album (65). It probably influenced a lot of bands I don't care about.
Not sure about this. Its a bit lazy indie band with a droning undertone. Its not bad but it doesnt really go anywhere. It just makes me feel 90s indie but dont see how this is better than anything else at that time. If I was to compare to say Stone Roses or The Verve for example would I really prefer this. I dont think so and I dont see how this blazed a trail for anyone either.
This yo-yoed between a decent rock album and pretty middle of the road 90's brit-pop. I quite enjoyed the general vibe but a lot of it felt pretty plodding and the vocals were lackluster. Apart from a few interesting moments, like the instrumental part of 'Satan', a point where I briefly thought the album might pick up into something more exciting, this was a decent enough but forgettable album.
At first this is so derivative 90s overblown mega period piece indie rock that I cannot stand it. Sounds like a melodramatic and poorly made highschool movie soundtrack inside of the brain of a super hormonal teenager with a lack of taste who thinks they are going through somthing. Booringg and generic. When I listen more I can hear this is british and has hints of oasis in it, but moments where it could be more do not break through.
Not my genre - 1-2 good songs
Sounds as if the Beatles went Grunge But not in a good way. 3/10
5.6
Ok
Another day, another okay enough British alt rock album that doesn't do much of anything to stand out from the myriad of albums just like it. No idea why this is in the project, largely fine and forgettable. Top tracks: The Comcept, Star Sign
I liked it better than I thought I would but honestly still pretty forgettable. I probably would have really liked it in my teenage years if I had known of them.
A lot of it was just glorified background music, sometimes got very dreary, especially with those vocals. The Britpop/Beatlesesque stuff was just utter shite. Generous 2. It's been so long since I've had a 5 man, release me.
Nothing remarkable. 2/5
Not sure what this is supposed to be... There's an interesting chord here and there, but otherwise it's all the straightforwardness of Foo Fighters with the vocals buried by poorly-mixed guitars doing God knows what. Boring.
Mediocre 90s pop rock
Sounded sometimes like oasis, sometimes like a coverband of the Beatles with distorted guitars. The mixing was off to me and I attempeted to listen to it multiple times without getting in to it. If anything it sounded a lot more modern than from when it was released. Can’t decide if I like or hate the album cover. Strong 2.
2.5 - fine álbum nothing great
So in my wheelhouse (Scottish, jingly jangly, a bit weedy and dumb), but just never got into this album or this band. I think mainly because of the vocals. All a bit of a whine. No surprise the best track is an instrumental.
I just didn’t connect here. Not my cup of tea at all. Just an album for me….
Yeah this album was boring as shit
This one feels derivative of Big Star. It’s not terrible but it’s not great either. I kept expecting something as cool as their collaboration with De La Soul but it never happened. I will never listen to this album again because frankly, it’s boring. I couldn’t even finish it.
I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it either
Interesting that the last track was an instrumental. Usually those things are filler, but I kinda liked it better than a lot of the ones with vocals. The vocals just didn't cut through as much as I was hoping they would. I was hoping for a better singer, actually. NEXT.
Very lukewarm feelings
Why? This album is so mid, it annoys me.
Melodic pop with punk vibes. Nice but can't remember any song.
This sounds more like a late 90s rock album than an early 90s rock album, so it's ahead of its time in that sense. Unfortunately for me, I don't really like late 90s rock sound. I guess it's not grungy enough for me. Reminds me of the Gin Blossoms or something like Third Eye Blind, which I hate. Some songs are pretty decent though, like Pet Rock--it's not all bad. Overall not very interesting though. Doesn't really seem good enough to make this list though. 2/5
Ok, nothing really stood out.
Completely unaware of this band. I suppose they might deserve to be on this list because they're making this type of music 5-10 years or more before everyone else who sounds like this. But I don't really enjoy this.
I think this was trying to meld indie and shoegaze sounds, but it comes off as lazt with weak instrumentals and vocals. Some moments are slightly memorable, but meh overall 2/5
Boring
Ok
This isn't terrible but it is incredibly bland, generic, uninspiring. I just listened to it and can't remember a single song. It all just blends into one yawnfest. This will be quite a generous two stars.
Made it halfway through
I actually have no words to describe this album, but not in a good way. Boring? Dull? Forgettable? All of the above.
This has some moments that really hit that Heroin Lite sweet spot of early 90s alt rock, but I struggled to connect to it for some reason. Not sure if that's on me or the music.
Began noisily, tunelessly, flat. Like Britpop if it was a garage punk band who couldn't play. Became more like noise rock as it went on, and then Metal Baby is really 1950's American rock, then I was reminded of the Longpigs with Alcoholiday. Either an influentual or a generic band. Either way I don't have a strong opinion on the music. Didn't love it, didn't hate it.
Nope. Not for me. I struggled through this one.
Pfffffft... the last track is called Is This Music? Don't tempt me with titles like that, sonny Jim
Better than I expected. There were songs I enjoyed, but surely nothing in the realm of must listen to before I die.
very muddy indie rock, not that exciting
The music is as generic as it's cover.
i don’t get why this is here either rly
Okey
Lovely bass tone. Kinda boring. Didn't listen to it fully as it wasn't very captivating.
Below-average alternative rock with no distinctive features.
I found this pretty middling outside of a few tracks. There were elements of melodic power pop which were somewhat enjoyable, but much of the rest of the album veered into lo-fi noise rock territory which felt uninspiring. Think I'd rather listen to Guided by Voices in that case. Not sure I agree with the praise this album seems to get.
Vraiment rien d’intéressant
Never heard of them. I’m not sure I understand why they’re on this list though. It’s not a bad album, it makes for pleasant background music... but there’s nothing that really stands out for me, it’s just the kind of indie rock we were drowning in during the 90s, with a slight touch of The Beatles sprinkled on it. I reckon they might have been pioneers, going for distorted guitars and dreamy voices before everybody started doing it... But many bands did it better a few years later, and it now sounds very dated and very forgettable. I’m sure their heart is in the right place, but it just bored me.
could i write poetry to this? n
while the instrumentalization starts out interesting, this quickly turns into a dumpster fire of a series of boring rock ballad after boring rock ballad.
Inoffensive, but bland and a bit forgettable.
I just don't see in this band whatever everybody else seems to. They really just don't do anything musically interesting for me, and certainly nothing lyrically interesting. I cannot conceive how SPIN thought this record was better than Nevermind. It's not terrible but nothing special, and nothing I'd have put on this list.
Important album for the sound that followed it but it's really not for me
i would love an alcoholiday
Meh.

Sounds like it was at the early end of the Britpop wave. I really like the pop writing of the opening song "The Concept" but didnt love the performance of it. But then again a lot of people were saying the same thing about grunge at the time, so I had to be patient and open-minded with this listen. This song also reminded me of Guns n Roses "Patience" towards it's tail end, a slow jam where the band just let it ride out. The next few songs were a bit of a blend to my ears. Nothing stood out and the singing actually got a bit worse. They do manage to achieve the "shoegaze effect" though, where all the music sort of sits in this harmonic/melodic range that creates a good listening vibe. "Star Sign" had a very 90's, Friends TV show type of chord pattern and rhythm guitar section. Probably one of my favorites along with the opener. "Alcoholiday" had some particularly bad singing. Bad enough to make me reconsider my rating on this one. Oscilated between a 2 and a 3 for this project. Points for a few highlights and for being one of the first of its genre, but that's about it. STRONG 2, if ever there was a thing
Thank god for Nirvana, because this what what we were going to get for 90's rock. It's fine for what it is, not particularly groundbreaking or interesting. Kind of a garage band feel, but with occasional surprising harmonies or violins. The jangly-out of tune guitars are a bit much after a few tracks, and FYI -feedback isn't an instrument, so the minute-long feedback solos are not fun to listen to.
Album didn't do much to me but at least a bit of a different listen. (2.5/5.0)
I have heard of the band, but TBH none of these songs sounded familiar at all. None of them grabbed me-- very generic sounding to my ears.
Here’s my boomer opinion… I’m over songs with a lot of distorted guitar
