Reviews (page 3 of 13)

My Jam

The Doors reaching their peak. Production is tight and heavy, with side A in particular kicking off with the meaty "Roadhouse Blues" and twangy attacks of "Waiting for the Sun." Everything sounds clean, and importantly, talented studio bassists fill an essential hole present in some early Doors material. A record that speeds by under 40 minutes and wastes no time on its concise cuts.

Thoughts before listening: I have always considered this to be the quintessential Doors album, and I really like their self-titled debut and LA Woman quite a bit as well. As a whole I enjoy the Doors and consider them one of the better 60s bands. A lot of modern music fans like to dismiss their impact largely due to Jim Morrison's antics, but their music is awesome and has been a major influence on a lot of the punk and indie bands I love. Review: Confirmed that this is my favorite of the Doors' albums with "Peace Frog" probably my favorite song. Other strong tracks include "Roadhouse Blues", "Waiting for the Sun", "Blue Sunday", "You Make Me Real", and "Maggie M'Gill". This is the band's most focused blues rock album and I think thats why I like it so much. Just straightforward rock songs some of which have gone on to be classic rock radio staples. 5-stars.

Classic Doors. Loved it all!

Okee Dokee... I am aware of the Doors. I don't live under a rock or somehow missed the memo. (I saw the film). Plus, I am "old enough" to have heard the Doors on the radio back iin the day. For some reason over the last few decades they have not gotten a heck of a lot of airplay, and I am really not into "oldies" stations. Listening "fresh" to this album is a real mind blower. This album is over 50 years old. And it is, as it was, amazing! This is a "must listen" in my not always humble opinion.

Album marcante, músicas deliciosas, destancando-se Roadhouse Blues e You make me real.

I hated the Doors for a minute. When the movie came out in the 90's everyone was playing the Doors for a bout a year. It took me forever to come back around on them but I'm glad I did. The music reminds me of of an LA that's not shiny and clean but dark and sleazy full of back alleys and broken dreams. My personal favs from this record are waiting for the sun and Indian summer. Waiting for the Sun has that languid floating in a pool looking down at the city quality. Like I've been at a party all night, done too much coke, and need to float in the pool with a giant daiquiri while the sun reflects off my sunglasses. Indian Summer is a sweet love song with the Doors vibe in full place.

Honestly one of my favorite albums of all time. The Doors just did not miss ever

Excellent album from the Doors -- not their best perhaps but full of the thought-provoking lyrics and rollicking sound that made them famous. Roadhouse Blues and Peace Frog are the best known songs on this album, but Maggie McGill, The Spy and Ship of Fools are gems as well. I listened to a lot of the Doors growing up but they had fallen off my radar a bit. Time to get them back into the rotation.

A classic. One of their best. Morrison's lyrical creativity and the his band'c musical sounds are awesome. Ran Kanzarek on keyboards was unique and Robby Kreiger on lead guitar did some excellent solo work.

Great classic album! Roadhouse blues sets the pace for a great diverse showcase of Doors music. Morrison is greatly missed!!

Know it already.

It’s the DOORS, of course it gets 5 stars. Jim Morrison is the lizard king, he can do anything!

Awesome...classic Doors!!

Great Album, Milestone

Atmospheric afternoon listening, scent of dust and old hair oil with men still preferring to talk about cars, carpentry and concrete than anything else. A time that has passed. I'd not heard of these pieces. Its not the Doors that I was given to discover. It's a good album. Message is nothing particularly resonant that I could tell but its good capture of a time and place and people. 3 stars meaning I'd listen again but not necessarily seek it out. (ADDENDUM - I've been seeking it out ... how awesome is that!)

Most albums by The Doors are worth a listen and this one a little more so. Can’t say I care much for Land Ho! But beyond that it’s track after track of greatness with Peace Frog/Blue Sunday being the highlight.

Blues-rock de The Doors. Vinilo.

Solid album from the Doors

I know it's en Vogue to shit on the doors but I couldn't :(

Among the better late period Doors albums. Peak lizard king and co. Varied too.

Classic album, immensely enjoyable easy listening

The Doors are 1 of the Best 5 US Bands Ever , their music is a mixture of Rock, Poetry & the Absurd. Just like Every Guitarist wanted to look like Kieth Richards, Every lead Singer wanted to look like Jim Morrison.Robbie Krieger infused Jazz Riffs in Rock Songs. John Densmore's drumming was always creative & Ray Manzerek Seemed to hold the whole thing together.Every serious Rock fan needs to own this Album. Along with their 1st LP and Strange Days, its one of their best

Pride of Melbourne... FL, Jim Morrison and the Doors produced an excellent bluesy, early, rockabilly album. Quite honestly there isn't a dull moment with this album. It actually makes me want more from this band. Checking out of the hotel of life after a brief stay of 27 years, I wonder what other legendary records Morrison could have lent his voice to if his stay was a bit longer. Morrison Hotel is frankly an excellent album and undoubtedly influential to the history of rock and roll. The instrumentals, the vocals, the mixing... all great. Easy 5 stars. Favorite Songs: Waiting for the Sun Peace Frog Land Ho! Maggie M'Gill

Some of Jim’s best

This was such an interesting album. I actually had never listened to a Doors album all the way through before this one. What a range of styles. It definitely deserves multiple listens.

Really good album, I had only heard the hits before.

Love the doors. Hadn't listened to the full album before but I'm happy I've done so now.

Excelllent album, will definitely listen to it again…..many times! 5/5 ⭐️

Solid album was a good listen while I worked.

Such great memories when I listen to this album again!

1. Song - nice, Blues, gut für einen Sonntagmorgen 2. - erinnert bisschen an Qotsa vom Gesang her 3. - bluesiger Rockabilly, gut 4. - mitwippbar, vglsw. uninteressant 7. - bisschen Seemanns-mäßig mit voranhüpfendem Bass 8. - schön bluesiger Lovesong, in Playlist 9. Angenehmer Anschluss an 8. 10. 11. - cooles Blues LickRiffwhatever, lässt das Album gut ausklingen

The doors siempre 👌

This album is actually perfect. I really enjoyed every single song

Album 189 of 1001 The Doors - Morrison Hotel Rating : 5 / 5 Favorite Tracks : Peace Frog / Blue Sunday Love me some Doors. Back to some rocking blues roots. Awesome tunes...lyrics...performance. This is the 3rd Doors album I've rated this high. I think I'll keep them.

Another amazing album by the doors. I have been a massive fan of the band for years. How iconic their sound is considering the short period of time they were producing music is crazy. They’ll still be relevant in years to come.

Great Album

The Doors

Solid album. Very enjoyable. I never expected blues to mix so well with psychedelic rock.

Great album, highlights were Roadhouse Blues, Waiting for the Sun and Peace Frog

4.9 can't quite bring myself to give it a full 5 but damn it's so good. faves: INDIAN SUMMER INDIAN SUMMER, waiting for the sun, blue sunday

This band's treatment of the blues is just so uniquely special. I cannot get enough of it. Favorite track: Roadhouse Blues

NAURRRR WHERE DID ALL MY COMMENTS GO??? anyway, really nice album, especially all the way through. You can put it in the background, and suddenly you feel like you're in a movie! There was a lot of variety of sounds and was a cool introduction to the group, I'm really interested in looking into them more! Plus it helps that the album picture is really aesthetic lol. I can't remember which songs I made a note of but I know Peace Frog was one that I wrote about!! Good vibes 🙏

es una debilidad

The Doors at their best.

Great album.

Excellent lyrical songwriting and love Morrison’s voice.

Loved this

More subdued than L.A Woman but just as excellent.

10/10 I listened to the Deluxe Edition, and it was super cool! I love hearing all of the takes for these amazing songs!

THE DOORS!

I think every studio album The Doors made with Jim Morrison is worthy of 5 stars. This might actually be my least favorite album of theirs, but it's still a 5 star record. I'm not a huge fan of "Roadhouse Blues." I know it's one of their most popular songs, but I think it's the weird scatting and the harmonica that blow it for me. It's still a very memorable song though. Once you get past the opener, my ears start to perk up more. It's a very consistent album, and serves as a sort of precursor to their masterpiece "LA Woman."

Roadhouse blues

Morrison Hotel - The Doors Yes, yes, and yes. What an album - this is what I expected to find lots of - amazing , superb albums, that capture: an essence; a style; a moment in music; or cultural/musical shift. This is also wonderful for listening simply for its enjoyment and artistry. Yes, 5+ stars. Amazing album, I simply loved *every* track, cohesive and really enjoyable and interesting music, its elevating and soaring, catching blues rock psychedelia (I suppose ), sometimes bawdy in sound, then lilting and trippy, then rollicking and catch, and so, so different to the other music of the times. Behind the catchy tunes are rather challenging, political, or counter culture or simply obtusely poetic and psychedelic messages, if you can be bothered with the lyrics. And a joy - it is the kind of music to turn up loud and exalt in, its so enjoyably unique and bizarre, beautifully executed, they really defined something so different. Naturally, reminded me of the Doors movie, but also of the track "The End" used for the Opening scene of the film "Apocalypse Now" - which has a strange resonance right now, but that's for another article. The Doors. Super solid album. More like this please.

I cannot see the title of this album without being reminded of the classic Morrison Hostel, from TISM’s Great Truckin’ Songs of the Renaissance (1988), in which they crucify Morrison, as the representative of & reason behind every serious young insect that followed him & considered themself a poet (Cave, Morrissey, Robert Smith, etc). I love that track. Does it stop me loving this album? No way. This is one of The Doors’ finest. Roadhouse Blues is one of the great album openers of all time. Not until now did I realise that the great guitarist Lonnie Mack played bass on this track (The Doors never had a bass player in the band) and John Sebastian played harmonica. It sets a cracking pace, but there are a bunch of wonderful slow tracks interspersed - Waiting For The Sun, Blue Sunday, The Spy (what a great track) & Indian Summer, often embellished by Robbie Kreiger’s guitar. One of the highlights is Peace Frog - a real blood in the streets anthem, obviously partly inspired by the 1968 riots at the Democrats’ Convention in Chicago. There’s no filler on Side 1 - You Make Me Real & Ship Of Fools both rock, & Side 2 opens just as powerfully with Land Ho!, although that side is not quite as strong. All in all, a terrific record. A great band.

Played this while prepping some snapper for dinner so I didn’t get to listen as actively as I normally would - but I love the doors. I’ve listened to this album before and it’s a banger every time. 5/5 for the spies out there

Excellent

I grew up on The Doors, so this is an album I'm very familiar with.

I love the Doors

Enjoyable album

Yea, I love this album for sure

Funny how this album which represented extreme hard rock when I was a child is now practically easy listening.

Great album, mostly for the big hit songs but I've always liked Ship of Fools as well

It's so good. So classic. The Spy is such a fuggin jam.

Listened to this album on the way to my grandpas funeral. My dad opens the car door and he says “are you seriously listening to The Doors before my fathers funeral?” It was then that he knew he’d raised me right. This album is awesome

This rating has far less to do with my listening experience and more about how I want to make sure that Jim Morrison loves me when I meet him in heaven some day.

I haven’t listened to much from the Doors other than their hits… I think I might have recognized one or two songs on this in some distant memory. I guess I see why these aren’t the usual Doors songs I hear, but they sure are great! I loved this album!

Reminds me of led zeppelin self titled and houses holy a bit but that’s definitely because of blues and psychedelic sounds combined with hard rock

I've loved the Doors for ages - don't care what anyone says! This is not quite their best album, but with Peace Frog and Queen of the Highway etc it still gets a 5 from me

Classic

I didn’t like this one as much as other doors albums before but now I see the vision

Great classic album.

This album is anchored with a really brilliant side 1, which includes one the all time great album openers ("Roadhouse Blues"), along with several of The Doors' best songs. Side 2 is a little uneven, but taken as a whole, the album is better than most bands could ever hope to muster. I don't think the band ever sounded better. Fave Songs (All songs, from most to least favorite): Roadhouse Blues, Indian Summer, Waiting for the Sun, Blue Sunday, Peace Frog, The Spy, Queen of the Highway, Maggie M'Gill, Land Ho!, Ship of Fools, You Make Me Real

The future's uncertain and the end is always near I LOVE this album. 5/5

love it, one of my fav albums ever. the opening track is one of the best tracks in the entire discography.

I love the Doors. I don't harbor illusions about Jim Morrison being the great poet that he obviously thought that he was, but I do like his singing style and voice. "Maggie M'Gill" sounds so much like "Back Door Man" that I would bet that Maggie was quite a lady.

Love this

Fantastic

The Doors will always rank at the top for me

Yeah!!

Erg goede muziek!

A remarkable comeback to formula. Fantastic dark blues with utterly beautiful themes. Morrison has some of his best works on the album, and also not to neglect Manzarek too. And oh, Kreiger does some great work and Densmore does his best work on this album. Ok, so all of them are on top of their game on this album. The album has some of the band's greatest songs. A strong recommendation!

White boy blues, sure. But The Spy? Indian Summer? I'd never have lost my virginity without this album.

Loved it such a joy to listen to

Peace frog and roadhouse blues are in Unbelievable, rest of the album was very solid but those are timeless bangers

5 star

Peace Frog is a bop, and I enjoy the groovy keyboard action throughout the album. Morrison's lyrics are amusingly on-the-nose, at times. Not exactly wall-to-wall bangers tho.

Classic doors album. Roadhouse blues, waiting for the sun.

First time listen to thr full record. Immaculate vibes.

whoof what a ride. love love love the doors. they can manage to make any subject matter harrowing and expressive, that being said, the subject matter in Morrison Hotel is one track, and for that reason I'm docking as many points as I probably could for a 70s doors album 9.7/10

morrison el rey largarto de ruta 3

Damn this is really great album. A couple stinkers but overall I loved it.

Haven’t listened to this full album in years. Great album

Not even the best from The Doors, but still one hell of an album.

#Classic 5 stars no question.

In my opinion, this is not their best, but hey... how can I give under 5 stars to a Doors album?

Roadhouse Blues tem vários instrumentos interessantes.

Blues-rock de The Doors. Vinilo.

Fabulous solid 5 album. Loves me a bit of dirty rock & roll blues.

Not one of my favorite Doors albums but honestly The Doors were my first favorite band as a teen, and it still sounds as great to me two decades later.

This was released one day before my anniversary! (22 years before I was born.)

Top album. The Doors at their peak

Hey, one I already own! There's a rockin' start to this album with 'Roadhouse Blues'. The album keeps it up mostly, though it stalls at times when it gets slower and more contemplative. Overall, however, the album comes together as a cohesive vision, which I really appreciate. So many albums feel fragmented and broken apart from song to song, but this one maintains a steadiness throughout that makes it an engaging listen from beginning to end. I also really like that it doesn't linger longer than it needs to. It's a little bit of a shorter album than some of the other's on here, and I can appreciate getting in, making your point, and getting out.

I love the doors; soulful, bluesy, groovy! Much derided, but extremely unfairly!

Amazing group, amazing album. I wish I could give it ten stars.

A classic.

I'm 30 albums into this project and this is the first to come up that I actually own. And love. I had Jim Morrison on my dorm room wall -- you know that poster. The last album served me by the generator was by Living Color, which rocks but is let down by the lyrics, which remain relevant and are presumably heartfelt, but they aren't poetry. Morrison Hotel, on the other hand, is the whole package. Roadhouse Blues is a strong opener, very bluesy Doors-y with the music supporting/echoing/riffing on the sung melody, with some classic Morrison flourishes and lyrics like "The future's uncertain and the end is always near". Waiting for the Sun paints a darker picture, I think, and gives us the uber Doors line "This is the strangest life I've ever known." You Make Me Real is back to a rockin' good time love song, but then Peace Frog gives us the unsettling imagery of "Indians scattered on dawn's highway bleeding / Ghosts crowd the young child's eggshell mind." Even the (slightly) weaker tracks towards the end Queen of the Highway and Maggie M'Gill are like snuggling up in a thick velvet blanket, although admittedly one made of scotch and sex. TL;DR: This album is a journey. I was born in the wrong time and place and introduced to The Doors at the wrong age to have any genuine perspective on this music. This album mother's milk to me.

From one Jim to another, great work Jim

Probably the best their album

The Doors are absolutely LEGENDARY and this album is no exception. Jim was an enigma and blessing in one.

One of the best blues albums I've come across. Not a bad song on there but special mention to Peace Frog and Queen of the Highway (obviously).

One of the best bands from the rock history.

One of their best end-to-end listens, maybe second only to their debut.

Classic Doors. Very enjoyable. Could be in regular rotation

one of the best Doors albums

Amazing!

POKER TIME

Moody, smooth, dark but not depressed.

Phonetically fantastic, a classic

Can’t believe I hadn’t listened to this yet. Love the doors

What Tom said

This is probably my favorite Doors album. Incredible return to form after the Soft Parade, which is my least favorite Doors album. Everything about this album is great. 5 stars.

Awesome

Such a great album, one of my all time favorites.

Excellent

So GOOD!

All doors albums are absolutely legendary

love love love love

Loved it, already loved it

Love this album, one of their best. Land Ho! is a great song.

Imprescindible

Grandísimo disco. 45 estrellas.

one of The Doors better albums. I thoroughly enjoyed it and give it seven deadly baths

Great album.

Sublime

Gran disco. Todo se oye lo más rockero. Mis preferidas: "Waiting for the Sun", "Ship of Fools", "Indian Summer" y "Roadhouse Blues", que sí conocía, rolón. 10/10

Descomunal

awesome

excelente, peace frog é minha musica favorita deles

The Doors return to fighting form on this release after 2 softer, more subdued releases in Waiting for the Sun and The Soft Parade in the preceding years. Morrison Hotel eschews most of the carnival organ psychedelia that marked the Doors for most of the 60s and exchanges it for the most driving blues rock of their career. That doesn't mean that there aren't more contemplative moments on this album though: the second track "Waiting for the Sun" does an excellent dynamic quiet LOUD quiet build throughout, and "The Spy" slinks around like its titular character in a rainy film noir. The most immediate songs are among the best: opener "Roadhouse Blues" sounds like a bar brawl that quiets down then picks up again after the saloon piano intro of "You Make Me Real." Morrison's voice is an anomaly on this thing: I can't think of another singer whose drinking and drug use continued worsening all while his voice kept improving. It shines best on the last 2 songs of this album as it careens between the warmer than normal baritone of "Indian Summer" to the bearlike growl of the closer "Maggie M'Gill." The Doors' hardest hitting album of their careers was resounding proof that the CIA's favourite psych rock band (if the rumours are to be believed) could hack in the new decade. Morrison Hotel showed a lot of promise that they ended up delivering on in the follow up, "LA Woman," which I like to believe is their best album. It's just a shame they would end up losing Morrison the very next year; at least the band definitely stayed broken up and DEFINITELY didn't make 3 more albums without their image-defining frontman, right...? Key Tracks: Roadhouse Blues, Waiting for the Sun, Peace Frog, Indian Summer

I don’t mind this album! It’s not a favorite per se, but it’s good for what it is.

Loved the "weirder" cuts on this, while the blues rock songs are really fun and goes very hard (why is The Doors not counted as proto-metal lol). What a great transition from Peace Frog to Blue Sunday, lots of great songs on side A (Hard Rock Café) Side B not quite as memorable, but still pretty good. 8.5/10

Strong showing from The Doors, this isn't their greatest work but it has a few of my favorite songs in Peace Frog and Roadhouse Blues. Wish that they could have created so much more.

I've often found Doors albums to be somewhat overrated and lacking in quality on this list, so I don't really expect to much from this. It kind of falls in the same category as the other Doors albums, with some good songs and some less good songs. Lyrics are as bad as usual for the Doors. I don't really get what makes this particular Doors album essential when it lacks their best-known songs. It's not any better or worse than other Doors albums, nor does it do anything particularly interesting relative to the rest of their catalog. This album is ranked #12 of 29 albums for 1970. Other 1970 albums rated by me: Bridge Over Troubled Water(2/29)-5 Led Zeppelin III(3/29)-4 Cosmo's Factory(4/29)-5 All Things Must Pass(6/29)-3 Tea for the Tillerman(10/29)-4 After The Gold Rush(11/29)-5 Deep Purple In Rock(14/29)-5 Fun House(17/29)-5 Ananda Shankar(27/29)-4

4 stars

Not their best, but it IS The Doors.

Classic sound. I liked the album. Bump to four stars

I'll always have a soft spot for the Doors. This album is largely carried by Roadhouse Blues and probably doesn't need to be on the list, but I still really like it. Just oozes overall quality.

The first songs leave me the impression of a nice album. Nice music to listen to. Blues, rock, harmonica, organ. 3,5/5.

Really good album, again this was one outside of what I'd normally listen to, but it made for some pretty chill background music while I played RuneScape.

great album by the doors, solid 9/10. first listen tracklist ranking: 1. Maggie M’Gill 2. Roadhouse Blues 3. Peace Frog 4. Waiting for the Sun 5. The Spy 6. Ship of Fools 7. Indian Summer 8. Queen of the Highway 9. You Make Me Real 10. Land Ho! 11. Blue Sunday

My teens: The Doors rule! My 20s and 30s: The Doors are cringe and insufferable. My 40s: The Doors rule!

I’m not the biggest The Doors fan, but I found myself enjoying this album more than I thought I would. 4/5.

As I generally enjoy The Doors' sound, I enjoyed this album as well. Even if I didn't feel to connect as much with it as I did with others, I still liked the particular sound choices and the vibe in this.

The most exclusive hotel in town!

Classic doors

Excellent album

Roadhouse blues is a classic, but suffers from being overplayed on the radio. Nothing here feels fresh any longer to me except Peace Frog.

Very solid album, quite a bit of variety despite being generally the same vibe song to song. Overall I thought the instruments sounded really good especially the guitar but was not quite as impressed by the vocals. Top songs: Roadhouse Blues, Waiting for the Sun, You Make Me Real

not my favorite album, tbh, but they are still beautiful

Awesome album

What a way to open an album! Unfortunately the rest of it was a bit hit & miss. Still 4+ though.

What’s better than orange infused bluesy Morrison rock?

A bit weak. 3.7/5

Good album

This album is strange. It's fun, but not hooking me. Morrison is great vocally, but the vibe just isn't connecting. Great music tho.

Peace Frog is one of my all time favorite Doors songs. And while it sounds fun and airy, the lyrical content is deeper and deserves understanding.

Pretty chilkd album, easy to listen to

groovy, colourful and has an occasional gem

Alright fun throwback (I forget how bluesy they were)

Also good 4 stars bitches. 4 tittly tits fucking the good lads in the corners eh

I've had a crazy day, so I'm going to jeep this short. If I had to pick a 3rd Doors album to be on this list, I would have gone with Strange Days. This album is still good though, Peace Frog and Road House Blues are the standout songs. There is a couple of other songs I like, and a handful that are just average. High 4!

Knew more than I thought. Classic sound of The Doors.

4.5 stars. Great album, love it and love the Doors. Been too long since I've gone back through their catalogue and forgot how much I dig it.

The best blues-sounding record I've heard so far...

i really enjoy how punchy this album was. not remarkable, but certainly enjoyable to listen to. the songs did kind of blend together, but i guess that's a good thing since there was nothing in here i hated..

Chill album of the times

I like the Doors, haven’t heard much from this album before.

Probably the Doors’ most cohesive album that gets off to a belting start, just a shame it sounds as though they were losing interest by the last couple of tracks

Some of the best psychedelic blues rock ever made. The musicians were incredible on Morrison Hotel. Jim had more charisma than natural talent, but it worked.

Already knew I like some songs by the doors, this album definitely expanded that

loved it, favorite song is Indian Summer

I enjoyed this more than any other Doors album I’ve listened to so far. Vocals sounded a bit different than Jim Morrison usually sounds but I actually liked it a bit more.

i like other doors albums more but i thoroughly echoed this. never realized how much he sounded like paul banks.

Very bluesy

This was so much fun!

This is definitely out of my wheelhouse, but I like the cadence. It has a hippie feel to it, which isn't anything crazy. I do enjoy that my headphones separate the music channels, which helps me immerse myself into the music more.

Enjoyed this much more than I expected to

The Doors have this great distinct sound that can only be them. My mom always had a gripe with them because they didn't have a bassist, but I guess they had a session bassist for recordings and their keyboardist did bass lines in concert. Take that mom. This album is fun, I have a strong affinity for Peace Frog, it's just awesome

Quiza el album mas The Doors que The Doors podia hacer. pdt me gusta The Doors

A lot better than I thought it would be. Definitely didn't age that much. I liked their more bluesy songs a lot more than the rock ones (e.g. Maggie M'Gill) but the rock ones weren't bad. Definitely a fun listen, easily loopable. Took four songs from this album. 4/5 stars.

Great album of course but maybe a bit forgettable compared to their others

I had to listen to this 3 times to really figure out if I really liked it. I’m not a Doors fan by nature, so I was surprised to like this pretty well. There are two things that stand out to me: 1. Indian Summer is a great song. Hippie bullshit at its absolute finest. 2. The transition from Peace Feog to Blue Sunday is perfect. I guess this is my favorite Doors album.

Classic. Full of bangers. Beginning a little stronger than end, but really satisfying listen.

Heard for the first time back when I was 13 returning to the singles and odd album track but never a full album re listen. Until now

I prefer psychedelic Doors to blues Doors (most of the time) but Waiting For The Sun is great.

Not the best of The Doors albums, but still very solid

the doors is a band that ive found very pleasant to listen to actually but i had never listened to this album. its very similar to their earlier works, songwriting is great and what sets them apart is the early psychedelic riffs and melodies that stick with you. waiting for the sun has become my favorite song in that album, overall the track would make a great roadtrip listen. jim morissons mental voice is remarkable too

Good vibing music and upbeat. Enjoyed the album, but not going to be a frequent listen.

Classic rock catches a lot of mostly justifiable flack for being overplayed, overrated, pale, male and stale. Given that it's refreshing and somewhat reassuring to listen through an album of a classic rock band you mostly know from singles and find that it does, in fact, rock. It is fun, muscular, propulsive, groovy, swaggering, shaggy, slightly sinister, with a lived in feel and dusty analouge sheen. The music lopes and choogles along at a good clip, the guitar and keys interplay through raw blues and Eastern - influenced motifs, and the vocals sound like they come from a grizzled and world wearly 40 year old crooner, not a drunk 27 year old acid freak. All in all I enjoyed this a lot. It's fun, which is not what I assume when you think of The Doors (instead I think of naval gazing teenage poetry and organ noodling {double entedre intended}).

You know what, fuck it the Doors still kinda rule. It's been two hundred albums since my last Doors album and this holds up and rocks much more than so much else on this list.

Really enjoyed, not as much as the debut though.

Getting a lot of albums I listened to extensively in my teens lately, still really like this one but compared to the string of bangers we've had this is not quite a 5

Seems a pretty good split between blues you can imagine anyone carrying off well and playing with a fun mix and palette of sounds.

After we got Spirit before any Doors, I’d been patiently waiting to get a better show of this sound and scene and thank god it’s here. It’s a good thing I’ve spent a while inoculating myself from a lot of Jim Morrison’s poet quirks, so I can mostly just vibe with the Doors’ sound, and what a sound it is here. Heavy in on that LA counterculture blues that they probably did the best, really guitar forward on a lot of these but backed up well across the board. Roadhouse Blues is a killer opener, Peace Frog one of their best tracks. Gets a bit more psychedelic in places, particularly the back half which is also a bit shaggier for me, but they’re still doing it well ultimately - it is the Doors and all that.

Pretty good so far; sounds familiar cool piano intro very bluesy

One of the more forgettable The Doors album. but it still holds up I think. It's not amazing but the quality is solid and Morrisons voice is great. Organ get a bit annoying at times but not overwhelmingly.

Second of three Doors albums in this experience and going chronologically too! While I don't think this album is as good as their first album it still is a solid slab of blues rock and a nice next step in my Doors listening journey. "Roadhouse Blues" is one hell of a way to open an album and was fun to be the first thing I heard on a Monday morning. 4/5

Gritty, grainy and hazy. Psychadellic and hard-driving. Lacks a level of sophistication in the lyrics, but doesn't really need it.

Nice and solid, some good tracks. I'm giving it a 4 but I think it's just personal preference and/or nostalgia that raises it from a 3.

I like bluesey doors. Ray Manzarek needs better keyboards, though.

Stunning Rock n Roll from a top band

Not a ton of notes here, just a pretty good blues rock album

Blues rock, psychedelia, R&B.

The Doors are always more Blues than I expect. Enjoyed this a lot

quick album. deserves four stars just because of the hidden gem "Peace Frog". of course, you have the classics, "Roadhouse Blues" and "Waiting for the Sun". other good songs "You make me feel real" and "Land Ho".

Wow!! This was really good! Never heard most of the songs on here which surprised me. This was a really good mix of songs, each one unique. So fast, slow, guitar, keyboard, rock, psych, really enjoyed it.

Liked the alblum. Very bluesy. Probably why I enjoyed. It was good hearing Doors non greatest hit songs.

Can’t beat classic Doors

Moody but not too melodramatic. I had a productive morning listening to this one.

Yes. Thank you to generator for an entry laced with a few bangers. The Spy was totally stalkery, but not in a skeezey way, in my brain anyway. I am somewhat a Morrison fan. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Enjoyable blues rock. Added a few tracks to my 1001 albums bangers playlist.

You either love or hate The Doors. I'm happy to say I'm in the first group.

Wasn't aware the Doors had made an album like this, it doesn't really sound like their previous more psychedelic music, much more blues rock. Enjoyed it - Peace Frog was a highlight

jako dobro i ugodno slušanje. premda nema taj klasično-kultni status, možda čak i bolji od njihovog prvenca. barem meni znatno više bluzast, što je sasvim neloše. izraženija prisutnost bas-gitare i više je nego dobrodošla

Realized I like the doors

Doesn’t quite reach the heights of their debut album, but still very very good.

Love the Doors, really enjoy this album.

Scratchy, rugged, soulful rock and roll with lots of distorted punchy synth and guitar. Album slowly winds down into more soothing grooving melodies but roadhouse blues is a standout favorite for me

A classic.

Nothing insanely good, but very listenable.

Decent album

Another ground breaking album. Noisy, dissonant and but buried surf riffs, velvets and tribal drums. Shook the world up!!

I didn't love the super-psychedelic, organ-centred sound of their debut much but, much like L.A. Woman, this was loads better. More guitars, more riffs, bigger sound and bluesy. Lots of that good, dirty, dirty blues. Enjoyed it.

Back in high school and college it felt like everyone but me loved The Doors. They all raved and idolized Jim Morrison, who I thought just seemed like an asshole (RIP). This was the album most cited as their favorite. So I went into today's listen with a lot of trepidation. It turned out that I already knew every song on side 1, having heard them all on classic rock radio back in the day. Taken separately I never cared much for any of them, but as a whole I began to kind of like it. By the end of side one I was thinking that I'd been wrong for all of these years. I knew none of the songs on side two, but as each one played I was getting some actual enjoyment from listening. I've said it a few times in the almost year that I've been doing this project. This album is indicative of the reason I'm doing it in the first place. It's all been about discovery and getting past my biases. I don't know that I actually like The Doors, but I did like Morrison Hotel very much.

When originally released on vinyl, this record was split into two distinct halves: "Hard Rock Cafe" and "Morrison Hotel". Each side plays to the band's strengths as a tight, blues-oriented quartet and represents a clear departure from the experimental arrangements of their previous album. Sonically, the album is well produced, written, and arranged. The standout is the opening track, ‘Roadhouse Blues’ - a blues shuffle that has been frequently covered for good reason. However, the specific feel, impact, punch, and rawness of this opener never quite carries through into the remaining tracks until the closing track 'Maggie M'Gill', although 'The Spy’ does run 'Roadhouse Blues' a close second, though for different reasons, offering a more sultry and atmospheric experience. Overall "Morrison Hotel" is an interesting and cohesive album; it is a fine listen, though it stops short of being truly compelling or essential. While it is a strong collection, The Doors rarely maintain a level of brilliance that feels consistent from track to track. Four stars. Side one: Hard Rock Café 1 "Roadhouse Blues" (5/5) 2 "Waiting for the Sun" (4/5) 3 "You Make Me Real" (4/5) 4 "Peace Frog" (4/5) 5 "Blue Sunday" (3/5) 6 "Ship of Fools" (3/5) Side two: Morrison Hotel 1 "Land Ho!" (4/5) 2 "The Spy" (5/5) 3 "Queen of the Highway" (5/5) 4 "Indian Summer" (3/5) 5 "Maggie M'Gill" (4/5) Total - 44 Average - 4.00 323/1001 176/323 albums reviewed were new to me.

Alright, you know?

As is usual with doors albums, hard not to like. I think I felt I was vibing this the whole way through, it ended sooner than I thought but nothing really stayed with me except the opening track. Still would put it on again because it’s such a good vibe all the way through. This era of production is my favourite

I was going to rate this lower, but the ending of the record changed my mind. This is one of those albums that sort of make me look for the lyrics. Morrison's vocals are charming in many ways; his voice manages to sound calm and powerful at the same time. That's the first record of the band that I have listened to in full, and I must say that, considering it's 56 y.o., it sounds so original. Take Maggie M'Gill with its minimalistic music. Morrison Hotel made me feel what quality rock sounds like, and I'm glad to feel that again. There are many fav picks from this relatively short release, effectively half of the whole record. I'd highlight Queen of the Highway and Indian Summer, the two short songs from Side two that are... so poetic, brief in lyrics and purely skillful in music. Great album, my 50th on the 1001 list. Gonna listen to it again.

it's 3.75

This is so slight bluesy that it almost feels like they were doing a nostalgia cover album like Lennon's Rock 'N' Roll. Not as captivating as their debut, but still a fun ride.

Still classic. Robby Krieger doesn't get the accolades he deserves as he's overshadowed by the myths of Jim Morrisson.

its pretty chill this is something you'd hear in a old cowboy themed restaurant (I forgot what its called okay..)

mi è piaciuto, 7,8/10

Really enjoyed this. It was first time listening and I always associated The Doors with being a bit doom and gloom. I was pleasantly surprised by how light it was

For the Doors' debut album I wrote this: "I know it's become somewhat fashionable to hate The Doors and Morrison, but I don't care. I love this band and I love this album. Incredible that it was their debut. 'I Looked at You' may be the only weak spot?" I'm not sure you need to hear multiple Doors albums before you die, but I guess 1000 is a lot of albums. This album isn't quite as strong as the debut in my mind but still VERY good.

Net wel net geen 5, idk

deep doors sounds

Liked the genre and instruments and most of the songs, would listen again.

I like how crude it is

Rock psichedelico, blues vabbè i doors li conosciamo. Tracce preferite peace frog e roadhouse blues

Good album, with one popular song, but really easy listening album from start to finish. You can hear the change from their earlier stuff, but still as the same musically sound.

I dug the vibe and totally get Jim Morrison’s appeal!

Pretty good but nothing like their other albums.

She Came In Town And Then She Drove Away 1001 Albums Generator 277 (4/24/2026) Way more bluesy than the other two Doors albums that I've heard, and since it is largely missing that pyschedelic edge that makes The Doors so special, I think it is worse than the other two. But it's not bad at all; Waiting For The Sun, You Make Me Real, and Peace Frog is a fantastic three-song run. The second half is weaker, but Land Ho! is a great country rocker and Indian Summer is a nice psychedelic raga rock tune. Morrison Hotel isn't as good as L.A. Woman or The Doors' monumental self-titled debut, but it's still a solid rock album. 3.5/5, rounded up to a 4. Favs: Waiting For The Sun You Make Me Real Indian Summer Least Fav: Blue Sunday

grandisima banda no tan gran album

I’d stay here.

i fuck with it. groovy and not crazy upbeat but still danceable.

Didn’t think I liked the doors but this was great

Had Morrison Hotel on repeat from 17 to 19. great memories and it still holds up

I would really give this album a 3.5/5 if I could, but I'll choose a 4 since I liked this album before having to listen to it here. There are some great tracks on this album (Roadhouse Blues, Waiting for the Sun, Peace Frog, Maggie M'Gill) but I found the rest of the album to be pretty lackluster. Still worth the listen, but not the Door's best work

love that bluesy rock sound.

Delightfully bluesy, definitely had me wiggling/tapping my foot.

7.5/10

The Doors seem to encapsulate the fraught emotions and anxieties of the dying 60s more viscerally than most bands of the time – whether or not in the ways that Jim Morrison intended (is that self-awareness on “Maggie M’Gill”??). Their songs have a pulsing urgency that gives the record much more lasting power than your average white-boy-blue-eyed soul. But then again, my feelings about these albums are so dependent on context, and I happen to be listening to this one outdoors on a beautiful sunny day.

Roadhouse Blues is such a great opening track. Dropping the needle down on this record and hearing that opening guitar riff...so good. The album fluctuates from there. Riddled with Morrison weirdness, some psychedelically far out (Waiting For The Sun, Indian Summer) and others just plain dumb (Land Ho!) Morrison Hotel is a real sine wave of an album. Regardless of what I said about the first track, Peace Frog/Blue Sunday will always be my favorite track. So freaky, so groovy
