Reviews (page 4 of 13)
Nice, a bit on a slower end, more like blues
Better than previous listens, the first few songs are tremendous and the songs on the 2nd half while not being as good still pack a bigger punch than I initially thought. low 4/5
Indian Summer is one of my favourite Doors songs. Rest of the album is great, but not quite 5* for me. Good stuff regardless
Groovy
Yep, really liked that one.
This is my first pull from The Doors. Disappointed that Waiting for the Sun (the album, not the song) didn’t make the cut, but only because that album holds a fond place in my memory. In any case, Morrison Hotel is good, but misses out on the benefit of nostalgia. And so while it still has some of The Doors’ characteristic weirdness, there’s not quite enough of it to get up to a 5/5 for me, so a mid-4/5 it is.
Solid blues rock, with organ, and typical Morrison posturing.
I can never quite get up to 4.5 stars on this one because, for me, side B is such a clear and noticeable drop-off from side A. But it's all still good, and side A is damn near perfect. 4/5
It took me so long to get into The Doors, which was foolish on my part, cause the hype is so real, what a band. Morrison Hotel definitely isn’t their best album, but it’s still very good.
Phenomenal album. Balances the bluesy and psychedelic tones of the band incredibly well. Peace Frog and Waiting for the Sun are two of their absolute best. 4.2
Man, kind of embarrassed to enjoy the Doors. I mean, there's all that Native American fixation, the spoken word wankery (sometimes fixating on Native Americans), and Jim being a mess who flashes his junk on stage before ODing in Paris. I mean, come on. But they put enough of a weird spin on their version of blues rock that they avoid sounding - like so many bands of the same era - like they're straight raping John Lee Hooker. & I can't deny Morrison is just a great vocalist, vacillating between cult leader trying to lure you back to his compound and a drunken biker who thinks they're a pirate. Will I go out of my way to listen to this again? Probably not. Did I enjoy it against my will? Absolutely.
nice
An absolute classic.
This might be my favorite Doors album
I am a huge Doors fan. This album has some classics like Waiting For the Sun and Roadhouse Blues. The album is a smooth listen from start to finish.
Not the best Doors album imo, but certainly showcasing their classic blues-rock sound.
Great variety of sounds and vibes, energetic but laid back, no song stands out as much as their mega hits from other albums, but I like this one a lot.
I really enjoyed this album. The guitar is super fun, pleasant all the way through. Sounds great in headphones
Rimane bello
By this point in their career, The Doors had moved on from their (admittedly potent) “Light My Fire” template, which leaned heavily on Jim Morrison’s magnetism and Ray Manzarek’s trippy organ leads and provided the blueprint for much of their early phase. Robbie Krieger’s guitar is given much more prominent billing right from the get-go, lending things a more aggressive but also expressive — such as on the phenomenal “Peace Frog”— feel. Morrison’s years of hard living have added some richness to his voice, which suits the material. The interplay between the musicians sounds fantastic in headphones. This album may lack hits, and there’s no extended epics like “The End” or “When the Music’s Over,” but they’re a more powerful and adventurous band than they were upon debut.
Full extra star for having the GOAT Doors song. Fav tracks: Peace Frog Saved a song: Y RYM: N
Listened while driving to work. Not a huge Doors fan and this didn't do a ton to change my mind. It's fine!
This was much better than I would have anticipated going in. The Doors were cool culturally when I was 14 years old or so and everyone that was my age had the double CD of the greatest hits. As time went on the became less cool and after hearing "Break on through" for the 1000th time you start to reconsider prior held notions about the band and the Doors were not so cool to me anymore. Fortunately time passes and we are able to see things again if not anew with at least a new perspective. With that perspective in mind I listened to this today and found this to be a perfectly enjoyable album. This is much more bluesy than the majority of the hits from my previously mentioned greatest hits CD and the The Doors sound like an excellent bar band that would be a lot of fun to see in person.
I dislike The Doors (or at least Jimmy is a pompous, misogynous jerk), but the talent is unmistakable.
first listen great stuff
Very nice
I've liked The Doors for so long, but had never gotten around to listening to this album in full. Very good album; I can see why some people call this their favorite.
loved some white boy jazz
Not their most memorable but the bangers do bang.
I still have Peace Frog in my head
More blues rock like LA Woman. There are a couple of tracks that stand out, but not to the level of the best on the other Doors albums. But the filler is better here too. It ends up being the same rating. 3.5
I really enjoyed listening to this one. A really great album. Favourites: Waiting For The Sun Peace Frog The Spy Indian Summer
good bit of organ playing
A solid chunk of blues rock. The thing about the Doors is that the great talent of the musicians was overshadowed by Morrison's excessive presence and ego. Excellent playing by Manzarek, Densmore, and Krieger, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, particularly since Morrison had devolved into a druggy burnout edgelord by this point. The first half is a bit more memorable than the rest, but it's all good stuff.
I’ve heard a lot of this before and really dug it
great album
Da stehen alle Türen offen
Solid album that’s somewhat straight ahead for a band that normally doesn’t mind veering off into the weird.
Muy interesante, me gustó bastante a pesar que no soy muy fan de este tipo de música, es muy interesante
Not as unique as the other Doors record that popped up earlier but maybe a little more cohesive? High 3
Fun album. Only familiar with the opening track but the rest of the album held up to my expectations. Would likely give this a few more spins and pluck out a few tracks to keep.
I always thought the Doors were overrated, but upon listening to this album it occurs to me that I actually just think Jim Morrison is overrated; this band is extremely talented and tight. Even Jim Morrison is an excellent singer; I just feel like his reputation as an Earth-shattering "poet of a generation" countercultural icon is overblown. But what do I know? I was six months old when this album came out.
Un disco joven, rebelde, seductor, sexy por momentos, agitado, sensual, múltiples escenas. Buena combinación de subidas y bajadas. Mis dos favoritas. Waiting for the sun Maggie mgill
Solidan kasniji album
Not as good as their first album, but still a legendary band!
Some belters on this album. The Doors really nailed their own sound, like they really do sound like The Doors don’t they? Its a v good album, good tunes, good runtime, when it closed I wanted more doors to open. 4.5/5.0 Best Song: Peace Frog - holy fuxk what a banger
Its their best album, its mostly bangers and then like all doors albums there is the odd absolute stinker. Its got a real sound and vibe to this album and i do love it, they really are the coolest band in the world when you're 14. Best Track: Peace Frog, its one of the all time tunes.
A great blend of psychedelic rock, funk, and blues.
I really liked this album. Definitely saving this one.
Feels like if country music met the beatles in a cool funky way
Great driving blues rock. Great sounding album well mixed
Tällä levyllä oli muutamia klassikkobiisejä, mm. mun ikisuosikki ”Roadhouse Blues”.
Man I love The Doors.
Roadhouse Blues is a banger. I enjoyed some of the other songs and it was good to have my first listen of a Doors album from end to end. Heaps better than some of the junk I’ve been served up lately, so I’m rounding up from 3.5 to 4 stars.
Fun and enjoyable
Classic!
Fantastic album, very broad coverage musically, maybe not the most thematically engaging but from a listening standpoint, I would very much listen again
Peace Frog is maybe my favorite The Doors's song. Great album, look like a real hommage to North American music, rock and folk, the second part is more expérimental, love it !
Yes yes, we love The Doors. It’s still not the self-titled project, is it?
pretty groovy, good 70s music
I love this album. Furthermore, Peace Frog is one of my favourite The Doors songs. But come on… Roadhouse Blues, Waiting for the Sun, You Make Me Real, Ship of Fools, Queen of the Highway, Indian Summer. If you like the Doors you are in for a treat
Always been conflicted on the Doors, enjoying elements of their songs but feeling like the tone or energy is off; I dislike the eerie depressiveness which is intentional at times but seems to permeate a lot of their music and, in my opinion, needlessly. I did really enjoy this album to from the really blues songs like Roadhouse to Indian Summer which is very hypnotic, and I recognise from Apocalypse now.
Digga det! Men alt for kort album!
Morrison Hotel feels like The Doors deciding to make a straight-up blues record—and doing it well. The band sounds locked in and confident, leaning less on psychedelia and more on groove, feel, and classic rock foundations. It’s tighter, more restrained, and more conventional than their debut. That’s both its strength and its limitation. Songs like “Roadhouse Blues” and “Peace Frog” are undeniable, and the musicianship throughout is strong. Morrison reins things in just enough to let the songs breathe, and the band sounds cohesive rather than chaotic. This is The Doors as craftsmen, not provocateurs. But while it’s well executed, it doesn’t feel as groundbreaking or dangerous as their self-titled debut. There’s less sense of discovery here, less of that “how did this exist at the time?” energy. It’s a record I like and respect more than I love. In the context of their catalog, Morrison Hotel earns its place as a strong, blues-driven entry—just not one that redefines the band or moves me emotionally in the same way. A solid, confident album that I’m glad to know, even if it’s not one I’ll reach for first.
Virkelig fedt lydbillede hele vejen igennem.
Doors brand of rock never gets old
Fantastic album. I love how the panning of the guitar and synth are so in your face at each side with Morrisons vocal booming out like some enchanted witch doctor. Roadhouse Blues is one of the best album openers of all time and the wistful and mystical Indian Summer is a personal favourite but for me Peace Frog is the standout track on the album. An absolute stonker.
Hyvä levy, pitää kuunnella uudestaan. 3,75/5.
Top 3 favorites: 1. Indian summer 2. Peace frog 3. Blue sunday
Songs I saved: Waiting for the Sun Peace Frog Blue Sunday Land Ho! Indian Summer
Great album. I really like the stuff I've heard by The Doors so it was nice to finally listen to an album. Will definitely listen to this again. 4/5 for me.
The Doors are one of those bands I never tie myself to one album, there were just so many songs that I like, that I forget half the time which album they are from. That said, it was good to sit down and listen to this one. I had not listened to much of The Doors recently, so it was good to get into listening again. Biggest Hit - Roadhouse Blues Biggest Miss (if I had to choose) - Indian Summer Underrated Gem - Peace Frog
Fucj this shit
Pretty cool album Standout songs: Waiting for the sun Ship of fools Maggie M'Gill
One of my favorite groups of all time. A return to from for these four, after an excursion into heavy pop psychedelia with their previous effort "The Soft Parade." This album brings it back to their jazz, blues, & rock influences. Not too much I can say about this album that hasn't already been said. The album cover is perfect and sets the tone immediately. Top Track: Blue Sunday
Bit uneven. Best track by far is Roadhouse Blues...absolute classic Doors. Other favourites You make me real, Ship of Fools The Spy, Maggie M'Gill Veering between 3 and 4 but Roadhouse just nudges it into 4 for me
Heard of the doors but never this album. Opening background track is really good. So many layers working well together. Doesn’t even need lyrics. Guitar and piano working together on the solo 🔥. Waiting for the sun is pretty cool. Lyrics aren’t the best but the sounds are really cool again. You make me real was good not great. Nothing life changing. Peace frog is much better. This one is really fun. Good songwriting and really good background track. Love the change of pace on blue Sunday. Bass line carries. Lyrics aren’t really good as well. Ship of fools is very unique. Not the best but u can appreciate the range. Not completely sure abt the sailor theme in the back half. It’s not bad just a little goofy. Still really good background music. It’s growing on me as I keep listening. Piano on spy is so good. I like this song a lot. It’s another really good change of pace. Queen of the highway is good not great just doesn’t hit as hard as some of the others for whatever reason. Guitar is really good tho. Maggie Mgill is really good. Really catchy lyrics, good bass line and good guitar. Another song with so many layers working well together. I love how it fades out, and I didnt want this album to end. Both good signs. 3.7 stars.
Quite enjoyed this one. Love the blues influence. Started to drag/blend together at the end though.
mitico
Classic. Not my favorite doors by any means by a good place to get it in!
Dig The Doors now much more, in teenage years thought they are incredibly boring
Très bon album, il lui manque juste un ou 2 moments légendaires qu'on retrouve sur d'autres galettes des Doors.
Really enjoyed The Doors unique take on classic blues rock. Only one big hit on there, but plenty of gems, and they maintain an energy throughout.
Gostei muito do álbum como um todo, músicas muito boas e uma melodia muito agradável. Realmente é um álbum muito bom!
One of the weakest albums by The Doors I've heard, but still better than most.
Not quite the consistent magnificence of LA Woman, but pretty fab nonetheless.
Me listening to this for the first time : 😱
decent
great!
Fav: you make me feel real 4/5
There are flashes of brilliance here: "Roadhouse Blues," "Peace Frog," and "Queen of the Highway" are at the top for me. The rest of the album is solid enough, but few songs have the complete package: great music with memorable lyrics. Still, I'm really glad to receive a Doors album today. Jim Morrison had too many demons to keep the band (or himself) alive, but where would they have gone given more time? It doesn't seem they were going to join the soft rock parade like some of their contemporaries; they were sticking to their roots, to their groove, and to the blues.
Love the Doors but this is not their best album 4/5
Eindruck: ganz hervorragend natürlich Rating:7/10 Favorite: Indian Summer/ Blue sunday
Rating: 6,5/7 bruder konnt mich nicht entscheiden War da bisschen zwiegespalten wie man sieht, werfe nh Münze
Super goed, nostalgisch album. Mijn persoonlijke favoriet is peace frog
Classic
one of my favorites ever
When I listened to this album in high school I didn’t get the hype. I kind of wrote off The Doors but have been making my way back. This listen, I so got it. Bluesey and psychedelic! So much to love.
Surprising how much I liked this. Great piano riffs
I know the Doors get some flack for being overrated when compared with their contemporaries. But I tend to heavily disagree. Sure, they weren't doing anything groundbreaking in the studio or writing songs that were changing how generations saw the world. On the other hand, I think they their sound was incredibly unique for the times. A perfect blend of swamp, R&B, psychadelic with a charismatic front man. They're one of my favorite bands from the 60's. As for Morrison Hotel, it's one of my favorites that's up there with LA Woman. The song Roadhouse Blues kicks absolute ass that. It's difficult to picture anything other than yourself holed up in the corner of some saloon in the Southwest slamming beers when all of a sudden, a bar brawl breaks out. A close second is Peace Frog (the Door's psychedelic prowess on full display). A tremendous album with more than just a few hit singles. Top tracks: Roadhouse Blues, Waiting for the Sun, Peace Frog, Queen of the Highway, Maggie M'Gill
나쁘지않았다! 엄청 싫은 노래도 없었고 무난하다는 느낌?
4 or 5.
Palatable, cool seeing the bluesy roots of some more rocky things, don’t really know why the Indian was bleeding out on the road but no matter, this was a bit better than fine
Best - peace frog/land ho Worst- blue Sunday
The first four songs on this album and the two closers probably keeps this as a 4½★ regardless, but the rest of back it up pretty well even if it's not as strong (9.6) ★★★★½
Not my favourite Doors album, but still really cool. 4 stars
This is probably like my 4th or 5th favorite Doors album, but it's still really good. The first half is wonderful, the second half a little less so, but I think there's still some great stuff overall. Highlights for me are "Roadhouse Blues", "Waiting for the Sun", "Blue Sunday", and my personal favorite, "Peace Frog". 4 stars.
An excellent Doors album all round. Essential mainly for the opener Roadhouse Blues which is one of their bluesiest best and features a howling awesome harmonica performance from my main man Lovin’ Spoonful frontman and Care Bears songwriter John Sebastian. Waiting For The Sun is another big epic essential Doors blammer and all the stuff after it is good - a meaty, moody, manly, mighty fine mixture. It’s not as high up as LA Woman on this list but still belongs here along with their debut and ideally Strange Days. Gonna get myself a beer now.
j'adore the Doors (mais d'autres albums >>)
Big fan
I really like the bluesy vibe here, which usually isn't the case for me so I gotta give it props there. The songs are just energetic and unassuming, and leave a good impression on me. The keyboard makes such a difference for The Doors. The way it integrates with the guitar is so different than most rock music, and it really works imo. The timbre of the vocal is also really unique to this band in such a good way. The arrangements and songwriting feel so purposeful. I think the way it's produced leaves a little bit to be desired, but it is largely made up for in the quality of the songs otherwise. The instrumental performance is tight and impressive without trying too hard. It's dynamic and everything plays off each other in a way that really resonates with me. The guitar riffs are so good - they don't quite melt your face off, but they still demand my attention either way. Even the songs that I don't think are awesome still got me vibing and having a good time. This album falls short of being 5 stars, but it's really not far from it. A better mix might have gotten it there, if only barely. I also appreciate how this album respects your time at 37 minutes. One of the biggest flaws with some albums is that they overstay their welcome. Not a problem here. It sticks the landing and gets out of the way. 11 good tracks. Respect. 4.3/5
dad adjacent music but pretty good overall
Sehr cooles Album, eine 9/10
I think a lot of songs on this album are played in movies. Seems timeless. Lyrics a bit confusing. Overall 6/10 or 7/10.
I liked it although some songs a bit repetitive
I first listened to this when I was half asleep and found Morrison’s voice so soothing somehow. Listened later while reading the lyrics, which definitely do not improve the experience. The last few songs relax into a very pleasing bluesy groove that I liked a lot. I added “Maggie M’Gill” to my Generator playlist.
Overall: 7/10 I think going back to basics worked out for these guys for the most part. I found that this album started out strong, but lost a bit of steam near the end before ending on the great Maggie M'Gill. The organ is still the best thing about The Doors. Fav Song: Peace Frog
Cool
LOVE THE DOORS!!!! Previous review: What a beaut! Waiting for the sun and roadhouse blues are stand outs. This is my all time favorite band! This is their third best album in my opinion and the first to not be a 100. My order is as follows: the doors, la woman, Morrison hotel, waiting for the sun, strange days and soft parade. Other voices and full circle do not exist.
This has been my first studio project by The Doors themselves. In my teens I got myself "The Very Best of The Doors" which is over two hours of compiled material without the mixing and conceptualization of a dedicated project. Curiosity killed the cat, and my desire to put on the Doors with much frequency. This project here, however, this was a cohesive piece of art. One of my favorite Doors tracks is Peace Frog and it was great to feel how the band intended that to come up, and later drift onto the next song. The production work is quality. I've heard some questionable details on some of these earlier records, but Morrison Hotel has nothing but competent artists making everything work together as a single project. Jim Morrison carried the band with his clear and pleasing vocal projection mixed together with some pretty creative song writing, but it doesn't take much to see everyone involved brings a lot to the table. I wasn't expecting to enjoy this so much. I feel like it changes as I listen to it. 4.2/5
"Morrison Hotel" is a really solid early 70s rock album. That's it, that's the review. In all seriousness, The Doors managed to create a project that is almost consistently sonically interesting. The bass is a recurring highlight, and the guitars are obviously really good. I also adore the use of early synth sounds! The reason I didn't give this album five stars, is because I sometimes found myself getting a little bit bored during songs. This mostly happened on the back half of the album, which I think is a bit weaker than the first. "The spy" is the chief offender in this category, and is the only song I actively didn't enjoy. My favourite songs, on the other hand, were the two closing tracks "Maggy M'Gill" and "Indian Summer", as well as "Peace Frog".
niet m'n favoriete doors album maar mijn god wat een lekkere stem wat een heerlijke gitaar en bas
I think this is The Doors' heaviest album in terms of sound. The riffs are just so badass and heavy, the whole thing is also super psychedelic, almost acid rock at parts. I don't think the songwriting is at their best here, but it's The Doors - it's still really good.
Not a huge fan of the Doors but this is a really good album, maybe the best I heard from them.
I have to admit that starting with Roadhouse Blues was a wonderful idea because it immediately put me in a good mood. The rest of the songs were alright, but the instrumental was just wonderful throughout. I think the timing may have just been great, but I also enjoyed listening to the album quite a lot. I wish I could give it 4.5 stars, but 5 might be a bit too much, so 4 it is then, sad.
Maybe I’m more of a Doors fan than I thought. Their music brings me to a very specific mood. I have the desire to be in Santa Monica hunting vampires.
This project has learned me two things: I don't like post-punk and I really like The Doors.
Roadhouse Blues: great energetic start to the album, really sets a tone for what to expect as a first time listener. Waiting for the sun: chill but you can feel something is coming, the buildup is fun. This albums got kind of a country feel to it. Really enjoyed how amped it makes you. You Make Me Real: SO FUN! Makes you want to dance around your room and headbang. Peace Frog: still good, not saving it but it’s also a fun listen. The guitar solo is quirky. Blue Sunday: oh, okay I can vibe with this one. I like the slow pace, Jim Morrisons voice is way more impactful in this capacity. Ship of Fools; not as vibey Overal Vibe: it’s giving dive bar baddie, I gonna walk in and be the baddest bitch for clocking this album. Would I buy it on vinyl? I think so!
Not really any duds on this album, it's a smooth listen all the way through. Roadhouse Blues is criminally underrated. Might revise the stars later, after a few more listens, but it's a solid 4 stars for sure. Dad would have liked this one.
A quintessential genre defining blues album. 9/10
Their fifth album. Rock. Roadhouse Blues is a really good, sexy, opening track. Waiting For The Sun is a cool psychedelic change of pace. I like Peace Frog too. The rest of the album is good enoigh but I prefer The Doors and L.A. Women overall.
4/5
Awesome rock
i love the doors
I'm a latecomer to the Doors. Never liked them as a kid. Like them much more now. This is not my favorite of their albums. I actually find their blues a bit derivative, but "Peace Frog" and other songs here are quite good.
Prob tied for first (alongside their first LP) for my favorite Doors record. This one is more… playful? I was always a bit confused by the dramatic shifts in style and mood between Doors songs (revved-up blues, psychedelic, brooding, pretty pop songs, etc…) but the jauntier songs on this one all work as nice compliments to Jim’s more “poetic” offerings.
it was good i liked it
Not as good as their debut…or Soft Parade….or in fact Strange Days…but indeed an excellent Doors album.
Morrison Hotel by The Doors opens up with the perfect song Radiohouse Blues. The song reminds me of an BGM for a 80s rockstar character - the whole album does, actually. The flow of songs are. just right, not leaning too much on energetic songs but not stacking up slow songs (yes, I think Waiting for the Sun is a slow ad sensual song) on top of each other so much so that the album might as well be a lullaby album. A nice album, overall. 8.5/10, will listen to again. Song(s) I liked the most: Waiting for the Sun, Land Ho!, Maggie M'Gill Song(s) I liked the least: Peace Frog
I only knew the usual singles from The Doors, most of which I find kind of boring and repetetive. This album is more musically diverse and interesting than I was expecting. Gave me a new look on The Doors.
good
Great one to revisit. Really like this one. Uniquely part of my DNA growing up.
A great all-rounder of a rock and roll album. Morrison’s finest moment in my opinion.
This album is actually pretty great. I've liked it a lot, it's got a lot of different sounds and interest changes while being so cohesive and enjoyable. It's not perfect for me, though. I wish I'd liked it much more, and I thought I would, but some songs have not made me love them. So, it's great, for sure, a fantastic album that joins psychedelia with rock in a very interesting way, but sometimes with not that great results. Maybe I need to listen to it a bit more and, then, I'll have a better opinion.
A more muscular version of the Doors, showing evolution as a band. Worthy of four stars.
CHOM: The Band. But it ain't their fault
A good, solid collection. Not as good as the eponymous album but worth a listen or two.
4.5 Stars. Part of the trio of my favorite Doors albums, with The Doors and L.A. Woman. Apparently, the group was a bit of a mess at the time, but they are very loose on this album and it created a real bluesy, rocking affair. The guitar work is smoking, and Morrison is at his best. Side 1 is especially great – Roadhouse Blues, Waiting for the Sun, You Make Me Real, Peace Frog, Ship of Fools. My version – excellent 2024 Rhino High Fidelity vinyl
I can confirm this is The Doors. It's fine and has stood the test of time - wow, I can rhyme like Jim M with a fine wine.
YUP THE DOORS
wow finally listening to a doors album. I've never truly understood why people think they're one of the best bands, but I think it’s probably because of Jim Morrison being the 60s psychedelic movement in a person. His lyrics are really quite bizzare, but great storytelling, and I think the way he words things is just quite unusual, which I guess makes the songs feel certainly unique. I do like the bits of early synth (I think) and organ and stuff. Not too keen on elements of the blues singing, but mostly great songs. Favourite songs: all I think. Overall around 7/10
This was a fun listen. Morrison's voice and the instrumentals were great to hear.
There is so much variety in this album, but it all still fit. Fun album.
Two Doors albums in a row is wild. Not as good as LA Woman, probably a little below the self titled but they show brushed of their advancement in both their sound and their abilities. Still an excellent album and well worth a listen.
A must for everyone!
A great soft rock album
Great doors record! Love the doors and some great deep cuts I didn’t know too well. Love land ho!
I think a lot of people sleep on just how consistently good The Doors' output was (pre-1972). They performed decently on the charts, but that doesn't speak to how ridiculously influential they were, and how simple yet universal their compositions and performances were. For a band without a bass player, the bass part is pretty dang strong. It especially shines in Ship of Fools and The Spy. Roadhouse Blues is incredibly strong, succinct acid-blues. It's pretty straightforward musically, but it's what Morrison, Manzarek, and the others do with their attitude and stage presence (you can feel it through the screen) that counts. You Make Me Real is much the same way. I like the slightly out-of-tune piano that creates a sort of ragtimey saloon feel. And The Spy is another blues iteration that takes it in a completely different direction. Much slower, almost a rocking chair ditty, with a slow swing and compound-time bassline. Maggie M'Gill does it again, and this time I can't really describe the style, but it's a fast, bright, outdoor-walk-time beat with an extremely prominent organ part. All this showcases, if nothing else, the diversity of a band that isn't typically known for stylistically branching out. One noticeable fault is that the lyrics can be a bit goofy. And sure, earlier albums suffered from the same issue ("Well, she's fashionably lean / And she's fashionably late" ... "Show me the way to the next little girl / Oh, don't ask why, oh, don't ask why") yet I feel that the Doors' self-titled debut and Strange Days both still have the earnestness of a band who didn't know any better. Morrison Hotel is the band in a grittier, manlier state, so the silly lyrics come across as a little low-effort at times. But that's by the Doors' lyrical standards, which are generally pretty high. I also would've liked to see some more interesting melodies and chord progressions here – the latter in particular is something they don't branch out with much, and this would've been the perfect time in their career to do it. 4/5 Key tracks: Roadhouse Blues, Peace Frog, Maggie M'Gill
In general, its good. The big problem for me is the repetition. The sonority is very repetitive and some songs dont get some attention, only a few. Its the doors, though, and the songs that are good are really good! Maybe gonna heard more later!
Melhor do álbum: "Roundhouse Blues". Pior do álbum: "Indian Summer".
Mais um álbum de festival de hamburger e cerveja artesanal. Dito isso, adorei os arranjos e a sonoridade. Com certeza revisitarei em outros momentos
I've heard this album quite a bit. Peace Frog stood out on this listen. 4.5/5
I like the doors, but all their albums have bad spots along with good spots. That doesn't make it bad. Albums without bad spots are far and few, and end up being the greatest of all. For me this album has about 6 good songs out of the 11.
Some cool songs on here but can slip into boring blues rock, but still worth a 4 stars
Classic
I’ve listened to Peace Frog and Blue Sunday separately for years and never realized that there was this abrupt transition between the two when listening to them sequentially. Definitely caught me by surprise. Solid groovy album. Gotta love Morrison’s vocals and the guitars throughout.
Don't care what anyone says... Listening to a full Doors album, especially some of the early ones without the classic rock radio staples, still hit just right.
I got really into the doors for about two weeks when I was 14 so I was alright with this one. My only complaint is that I wish it were sequenced better because the middle of the album really drags.
Apart from their debut, this might be the Doors’ most consistent album. So many of their records have incredible highs and then a bunch of throwaway tracks. This one is pretty pleasant throughout. "Roadhouse Blues" is the standout, of course. Nothing on this record is as fun or rocking as that. "Land Ho!" is pretty hilarious- the Doors version of "Octopus's Garden," maybe? "Indian Summer" was quite shocking to me - I liked it, but of course I would - I love "The End." It's just "The End" but in a major key, and half as long. That one really threw me. But yeah. Overall a very listenable Doors record. You can put this one and not have to skip around too much. For that it earns a solid FOUR STARS
Got me through jury duty check-in. Appreciated many of these songs
Great album
Enjoyable listen. Without this its not an album I would have spent any time with.
Enjoyed it for the most part. I really dug the bluesy sound. I think I'd listen to this again.
Oh yeah! Let it roll baby roll, let it roll all night long! Love Ray's keyboarding! Gave the Doors a unique sound. So good. 4.0
Pretty good. Loved the first song the rest were generally good too.
top
I liked this one more than the other one I listened to.
Not the greatest album from The Doors but a good one.
Strong 4
Love this album. My kinda style.
First of all, honorable mention to the the album cover and the backstory behind it lol Second of all, I love how this album goes back to the doors's (is it doors's ???) beginnings with the blues and a mix of some psychedelic rock ya know? Never would i think hey those two mix but ive been proven wrong. Anyways its cool and I would listen to again. 4.79/5
Much more bluesy than LA woman. Enjoyed it. Think my favorites were Roadhouse blues, the spy and maggie mgill 4
Hell yeah 8/10
Some high highs, but not consistent enough to pull five stars.
I really liked this album. I don't think I'd go out of my way to listen to it, but I wouldn't skip any of the songs if they came on shuffle. Skipped: None. Liked: Roadhouses Blues, Waiting for the Sun, Peace Frog, Blue Sunday, Ship of Fools, Land Ho!, Queen of the Highway, Indian Summer, Maggie M'Gill Loved: You Make Me Real Album Favourite: You Make Me Real Saved to Liked Songs: All
My personal favorite from the doors
An album of absolute supremeness.
Love this.
It's better than I would have guessed. Bluesy. 3.7 stars.
I appreciate the Doors A LOT. And I listened to them in my early 20s. Can’t do much anymore.
Bluesy, psychedelic and some great 60s rock. This is probably my favorite album from The Doors. Highlights: "Roadhouse Blues" and "You Make Me Real"
I knew three songs from this really well but had never listened to it before, it's great. Consistent drunk blues rock throughout
Loved this album. Very bluesy rock inspired for the Doors, and they crush it. 8/10
This is the type of album that deserves a spot on the list. Really enjoyable listen. Great mix of blues and funk. 4/5
Fire
- sehr cool - raspy voice - nice drums and musical distribution over instruments - cool melodies - widr mysteriös u biz experimentiell - immr no chli vorhersehbar, was o guet isch
Yay! One of the giants of 60s psychedelia, no doubt. 3 massive songs on this one with Roadhouse Blues (might be my fav Doors track), Waiting for the Sun and Peace Frog. The rest of the album is good but doesn't come close to these 3 tracks. Strong 4 stars is what I am thinking and reserving those 5 stars to their Debut. I would replace this one with Strange Days, but oh well, beggars can't be choosers.
Cooler Sound
Some classic songs for sure.
On se kyllä kova!
Toimii. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Erittäin kova! Ansaittu maine bändillä.
Absolutely a banger. I never get tired of the doors
Great blues rock album. 7/10
les doors quoi !
3.9 - Das erste mal The Doors und ich kann den Hype schon verstehen. Kein schwacher Song aber auch kein absoluter Banger. Highlights: Waiting for the Sun, You Make Me Real
Not my personal favorite album by them, but a good listen nevertheless.
Cool Album stupid Band Name
I have a soft spot for Jim Morrison. He was a poet who became rock star/sex symbol. Is it the greatest RnR? No. But it was different. The organ, the mixed instrumentals, the quirky lyrics. It can get you lost in it. Songs like The Spy and Indian Summer just have such a desert flow to them. Maggie M'Gill and Peace Frog are fun and loud.
Peace fog mentions the 2 cities I’ve lived in the longest. I enjoyed this album. It’s a simple good sound.
Återigen ett frågetecken kring valet av album. The Doors har gjort flera plattor överlägsna denna. En fyra
Moro moro :D The Doors on kyllä sellainen bändi jota tulee kuunneltua silloin tällöin, albumilta löytyi biisejä joita löytyi listaltani myös. Hyvää rokkia!
Meni ihan mukavasti automatkalla kuunnellessa. Muutama hyvä biisi, kuten Waiting for the Sun, The Spy ja Maggie M'Gill. Tää pyörii siinä kolmosen ja nelosen tuntumassa. Oon anteliaalla tuulella mukavan viikonlopun jälkeen, joten laitetaan nelonen. 3,5 tähteä tulisi, jos puolikkaita voisi antaa.
Toimii. Ihan kaikki biisit eivät iske samalla tasolla, mutta ainakin levyn 1. (ilmeisesti se hittibiisi) on hieno.
I was fully prepared not to be able to enjoy this album. Some of the reviews were scathing. Others so terribly fawning that I was prepared to brush them aside as mere fans being overly fanatical. The Wikipedia page promises a return to their previous blues days. I honestly hadn't noticed any blues in Riders on the Storm, the only song of theirs that I remember hearing. So I just dove in an was surprised and even pleased to be treated to something as palatable as it really is. Younger listeners in general might prefer a different beat. Anyone with a wider preference that includes several decades before the noughties just might tap a toe or two. I'm glad I gave the album a listen.
awesome classic rock album, lots of jazz influence
This was like if an Americana/blues album was mixed with a psychedelic rock album. It worked pretty well. I have a soft spot for the doors. We listened to them a lot in high school theatre.
Blues heavy rock, enjoyed the piano/organ through out the album. Felt like a cohesive album from start to end
The Doors in their prime….little blues, little psychedelia, little poetry, little experimental…if you like that, you like this. In my opinion, they catch too much flack because of the legions of Jim Morrison copycats and boomer classic rock iconography, but still a solid band. Some songs don’t hold my attention but I like the vibe. One note is that this is another one where I listened to and found the mix to be a little tinny and cramped, but I do like the music. Especially great playing from Robby Krieger.
I actually enjoyed this, which tells me I should book an appointment with my therapist
Really enjoyed this one. Listened to it twice. A band with one foot in the past and the other in the future. It’s clear how influential their sound has been to lots of artists that came after. Favourite track: Waiting for the Sun
Really nice
It's not my favourite Doors album, but it's still cool.
Peace Frog
Well I woke up this morning and grabbed myself a beeer
Great one
Not their most memorable work, but they still did all the good Doors stuff
Spet stari znanci, spet z meni manj poslušanim albumom. "Roadhouse Blues" je res hud začetek albuma. (Ob ponovnem poslušanju, res je hud. Ampak, lol, ker zaključek komada.) (Ok, ob prvem poslušanju sm očitno tud mal zgrešila the goodness that is " Waiting for the Sun"? Pa "You Make Me Real"? Fak, zato morm 2x poslušat.) "Peace Frog" - nov favorit? (Še zmer amazing.) Mal funky, mal značilnega bluzenja s strani Jima, velik Manzarekovih orgl in, kr naenkrat konc komada. (In še enkrat.)
Ya
A classic Doors melding of Blues and Rock. Some great riffs, melodies and lyrics make for a good album.
Never knew the Doors made such swingy bluesrock.
Love the Doors
Jim lad
undeniably good.
quite romantic. exactly the kind of thing i'd let play in my room while i lazily clean. i really enjoy peace frog and indian summer
Strangely enough, this album reminds me of highschool and it’s so great. The lizard king lives on
Pure nostalgia vote here.
I only ever heard "break on through to the other side" and I was sick of it. Turns out I've been missing out. So much organ!
I thought this was fantastic much over variety than most albums overall very happy. Tailed off a bit towards the end.
83% Best: You Make Me Real; Peace Frog; Maggie M'Gill Must-Hear? Sure
Very Fun Bluesy Album
This is such a conflict for me. I was a "fan" of the Doors in my youth. I loved their albums, I read Morrison's poetry, consumed the biographies. But it's always been clear the band is a sum of its parts, but I think without Jim's chaotic clown persona, they wouldn't have been as big as they were (no matter the "incidents" around him, I think it was before the idea that "even bad news is good news, because everyone is still talking about it." It's not my favorite collection - but damn if it doesn't bring back memories.
I previously had only heard Roadhouse Blues on this album, and have always liked that song a lot. I thought this whole album was really good, and a bit more listener-friendly than a lot of their other material. If I get a chance to pickup a second hand vinyl copy, I will. Four happy stars for this one!
I think I like the doors more but this album is great
I much prefer the earlier albums by The Doors, but this is a solid album of heavy blues & RnB. Pretty good!
I’ve always been a big fan of the band but I don’t know if any of their albums would be five stars. They all have at least one throw away track on it, and this one has a few. It also has some of my all-time favorite songs but the throw away tracks hold the album back.
Pretty good, really liked the first song and last song. The middle slowed down too much for no reason imo. Favourite Song: Road House Blues Honourable Mention: Maggie M'Gill
Pretty fucking good, enjoyed this. Good mix of heavy and some slow
Prefer their début
Nothing too bad, more enjoyable than others. But not bad but no singular track I would come back too 4.2
Porządni, chociaż mocno stonowani Doorsi. Jedna z tych płyt, której nie poniosła fantazja. A szkoda.
Pretty good
This is a great album, but not my favourite Doors album. Some legendary songs are here: Waiting for the sun, Peace frog and, of course, Roadhouse blues. Still, it leaves just a little to be desired for me (or I have in my head other albums by them that are a clear 5/5). 4/5
Blues rock blueprint
One of my favorites from high school
This was a pretty chill album. It’s that old type of rock that can either be upbeat or more laid back. This album contained both kinds of songs. It was pretty enjoyable to listen to. Both the instrumentals and singing were very pleasant, and it made me feel pretty calm. My favorite song would be “Roadhouse Blues.”
It's really good album especially peace frog but mediocre in terms of the doors
Morrison Hotel feels like slipping into your favourite worn leather jacket, instantly comfortable, a little rough around the edges, but impossible not to love. Kicking off with “Roadhouse Blues,” that familiar guitar riff hits like a friendly nudge “Hey, remember me?”...and suddenly you’re tapping your foot, winking at the speakers, ready for whatever comes next. That opening track alone sets the mood for a night spent with good company and your substance of choice. What I adore here is how The Doors lean hard into the blues without ever feeling like they’re trying too hard. It’s not perfect, there are moments where the groove meanders, and a couple of songs feel like padding, but you forgive it, because that raw vibe is exactly why you came. Morrison Hotel delivers a lush, bluesy roll that feels both familiar and fresh. I’m giving it 4 out of 5 stars.
The Doors, great album
Nice
Good roadtrip album.
The Doors are one of those bands that I'm not into but somehow I end up enjoying their shit.
More straight up blues than I was expecting from a later Doors album, but this slaps.
A little bit biased as the Doors are on of my favourite bands. This album is full of their own brand of bluesy rock and can’t think of a bad track on it
love the doors
The Doors. One of my favorite band. Long time fan. Great album.
the album was reaLLY GOOD AND REMINDED ME OF STUFF MY DA USED TO LISTEN to 4/5
I like the Doors quite a bit but Morrison Hotel, while still enjoyable enough, is definitely the weakest of their albums, so it's surprising to me that it's on the list. L.A Woman and The Doors are 5 star albums, but this only scrapes a 4 from me.
I think I had the wrong impression of The Doors, I expected something artsy and pretentious but this is straight ahead blues. It’s well executed though.
I think I only know a handful of songs by The Doors, none of which were on this album. This was good to listen to while I was working.
Started off so strong. The blues. The rock. The rawness. By the end, I got a little worn out, but overall, loved the album.
Pretty great album, I like the guitar on peace frog
Didn’t think I was much of a doors fan. Always joined them but not huge on them. That said, I’ve enjoyed this one. Properly my favorite out of doors records I’ve heard and maybe I need to revisit the band.
8/10 I like this more than most Doors I know. The additional guitar and bass really lift it and Peace Frog, especially, is great
A band one loved as a kid still has pretty strong appeal. One likes the crispness of the playing on some songs, but there’s a dated grooviness (one can just picture the go-go boots) and a trying-too-hard factor on cuts like “Waiting for the Sun” and “You Make Me Real.” Then its get seriously better thru the middle section. One was already embarrassed about liking this album by the time one went to college, so wouldn’t the embarrassment have reached eye-rolling scale by now? Alas, no, this holds up nicely, especially the bits that showed up on An American Prayer.
A very good album! Enjoyed from start to finish.
Turns out I actually quite like the doors
Pretty good, always been a fan.
Fun album, enjoyed it and it made me realize I need to listen to more Bluesy stuff more. Highlights: Blue Sunday, Peace Frog, Roadhouse Blues
Loved this! Love The Doors, but hadn’t listened to this album before Fav songs: Roadhouse Blues, Maggie M’Gill
Apart from Roadhouse Blues, which was worth the price of the album alone, there weren't any other "hits", but Morrison Hotel was a solid blues record. It may seem more low-key and less flashy, but it was an improvement over the previous couple of albums. It takes a couple of listens to "get into it" and when you temper your expectations that there isn't another, Light My Fire on here, it's mildly satisfying.
it's honestly a really enjoyable album to listen to - the organ consistently appears through the album and it's a lot of fun to hear that added. definitely a worthwhile listen!
Ray Man-fucking-zarek steering this ship of fools with his organ. His playing is phenomenal was lucky enough to see him play at Buddy guys absolute maniac on the electric piano. This album was super fun. We get to see the sea shanty side of the doors definitely some bangers on this album. Jim Morrison‘s voice has these moments where he’s haunting me holding these notes and drowning things out. There’s some great moments in the book. Please kill me with Jim Morrison hanging out with all these punk guys and David Bowie and just being a drugged up pixie that even Diggy pop described as insane. Lots of mentions of him never wearing her shirt. I believe the word bimbo was used multiple times..
A classic album with so many iconic bangers.
Good album near the end of Jim Morrison’s life
**** 1/2 Have Not listen to that one for a long time - it is really Great!
7/10 Ah, the Doors 7-3-2025
4’5
Not much to say other than it's good. Only other Door's album I heard was their debut so this album being slightly on par with their debut kinda surprised me. It's a good listen, a fine album from a fine band, nothing really much to say other than that.
their best
Aika rokki! Välillä tuli nollariviboja, aika moni indiebändi on varmaan tätä levyä kuunnellu. Sopiva mix perusrockia ja progepsykee.
I adore the Doors but feel that the 1001 albums book would be better if it just included "the best of the best". I prefer other albums of theirs so will give this 4*.
Great listen
Brings back memories from years ago when I first explored the classics. I have always felt that The Doors were underappreciated and need more recognition. Morrison Hotel, despite being a small album of only about 37 minutes, has perfectly captured the bluey, dance-y vibe of the 70s.
I actually didn't hate it. Very enjoyable. I especially liked the last track.
"Roadhouse Blues"... need i say more? opens this great record... if this song doesn't get you fired up, you have no soul... Jim Morrison gets all the press, but, the band is very underrated as a rockin' group... killer guitar... bad ass piano... bass by Lonnie Mack... and that's just the opener... "Waiting For The Sun" is Hippie gold... a snapshot of the times back then... the garage band esque "You Make Me Real" is next... "Peace Frog"... if you don't like this song... you don't like groceries... "blood in the streets of the town of Chicago..." wooo! another snapshot of the times... "Blue Sunday" is Morrison at his spooky best... "Ship of Fools" while not as good as the Grateful Dead song of the same title, is strong... that's side one... side two... is another story... not nearly as strong... side one is Five stars... i deduct one for side two... FOUR STARS... and an album you must hear before you die... at least side one... ; ))
Really cool classic sick stuff. Extra fan of Peace Frog and Waiting for the Sun. Have always enjoyed this band. (4.5 stars)
