Reviews (page 3 of 14)

This album has a gravitational force. There is an Amy Winehouse shaped hole in the universe.

Aouaip

I love those brief periods in music where girl groups and doo-wop come back into the mainstream. This album is absolutely incredible. Sounds just like those classic soul records, and Amy's voice is full of emotion

Gorgeous album

INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!

Songs for sexy chain-smoking yearners/drinking alone at a dusty jazz bar. Miss u queen RIP

My expectations were not that high because I’ve never loved “rehab”, but wow this album is consistently amazing.

A tortured genius, after initial success this is a series of songs that mangage to capture raw emotions, but can have you singing along and felling uplofted. When an artist appears thats just vocally unique you have to count yourself fortunate if you watched her live

Love her!!

Honestly a heartbreaking listen. RIP Amy.

Sign of an album I enjoy - I wish it would last longer.

Have listened to this album many times but I am always happy to go back. Modernises the jazz/R&B sound of the 60s. Perhaps the best vocals ever. My only complaint is the album is only 34 minutes long. The vocals on tracks such as Rehab, Tears Dry On Their Own and Love Is A Losing Game is genuinely haunting.

Rehab 10/10 - as good as this song is, it’s a sad listen in retrospect. This is such honest songwriting that makes a very bold statement considering the amount of conversation there was surrounding her drinking. I really feel for her in this song. You know I’m no good 9/10 - this melody itches my brain. The horns add so much texture in this song. Me & Mr jones 11/10 - ugh I love this song it’s perfection. The background vocals, the vintage sound, Amy’s delivery, and these lyrics. The opening line has you immediately, it’s so captivating. When the song was done I played it again. (Not long enough!!!) Just friends 8/10 - powerfullllll I can’t get over her songwriting. Back to black 9/10 - you immediately know which songs mark Ronson produced. This song is so visual. It’s a punch to the gut. Love is a losing game 10/10 - god damn Tears dry on their own 10/10 - I love this sample it fits so well with the rest of the album. It just shows how much she nailed that 60s/70s soul sound. Wake up alone 8/10 - give my girl a break Some unholy war 7/10 - noooooooooo Amy He can only hold her 9/10 - im just so sad listening to this album. Addicted 7/10 - This review I read sums up what I was thinking the whole time this album was playing - Years before the next generation learned to temper their misery with sarcasm, memes, and deadpan fatalism, we had Amy Winehouse, fluttering around words so crass you could barely believe she was singing them at all, let alone with a horn section.

Rehab: 2/10, its too "2010s white woman loving life and wine with her 15 kids and gray dodge minivan" You Know Im No Good: 8/10, i did a dance routine to this song so im very familiar with it, it gives me feel good vibes, i love the sax in this, and the drums, and UGH this is so good but i only put it as an 8 due to the lyricism Me & Mr Jones: 9/10, its very jazzy and full of meaning, i love how she violently says fuck in like every other sentence, it reminds me of Reba (whatshername?) idk but i like this Just Friends: 0/10, just no. Back To Black: 10/10, kinda overplayed but i havent listened to this song in a while so its a 10. its very evil sounding and piano plinky, which i love Love Is A Losing Game: 7/10, i think my aunt played this at her wedding, i like this tho, the drums really match with her singing, which is hard to do on drums in my opinion. Tears Dry On Their Own: 3/10, its okay, i dont really have any comments for this other than "ehhh." Wake Up Alone: 1/10, it sounds like 5 of her other songs which is too repetitive for me, like change it up a bit please and thank you Some Unholy War: 6/10, this reminds me of a lustful relationship between a corporate boss and an office worker if that make sense? like a sneaky relationship kinda thing. He Can Only Hold Her: 8/10, it would be a 9 if we just got rid of the echo in the singing. but i really love the piano, i wish it was increased a bit so you can hear it more Addicted: 6/10, i mean yeah she was addicted (DONT KILL ME I MADE A JOKE) but i like how she made a song about it, it really shows how into it she was with her drugs. (STOPP)

Easy 5*, Amy Winehouse became a superstar off the back of this and rightly so. Her voice is incredibly unique, soulful and powerful. The lyrics are full of heartbreak and the jazzy production was quite influential in returning this style to prominence in the mainstream pop world. Classic

I'm not capable of describing how good this is.

saiam da minha frente porque essa será a única coisa que falarei por dias!! eu tava muito torcendo que um dos primeiros albuns que aparecessem fosse um que eu amasse e veio logo essa joia! ai, sério, eu nao sei nem o que dizer sobre esse aqui. a figura da amy sempre foi muito marcante pra mim desde pequena. era muito bom poder ver uma mulher como essa sendo ela e sem se desculpar por isso. eu nao quero quero transformar isso aqui numa confissão do meu amor e admiração por ela, mas de uma forma ou de outra será. eu AMO a discografia dela, eu amo a voz dela, eu amo o som que ela faz e como soa único. esse álbum eu so parei pra ouvir completo quando eu ja tinha mais de 20 anos, mas é simplesmente impossível você não conhecer nada que tenha saído daqui. o álbum ja começa com a pra sempre unica e emblemática "rehab", e ja sai matando na segunda também com "you know i'm no good", e segue assim ate o seu final. pra mim, não existe falar de musica sem citar o que amy fez aqui. muda minha vida a cada vez que escuto e eu acho que se eu gostasse menos eu seria capaz de falar mais sobre. dito isso e passado o meu surto fanático (que poderia ser maior, mas estamos nos segurando), seguem os meus destaques: - rehab, tudo nela é incrível - you know i'm no good - me and mr jones - tears dry on their own - love is a losing game - back to black - o trompete de just friends - some unholy war - he can only hold her pra mim, com certeza é um 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟!

I mean what isn't to like about this album? I've only ever heard some of the songs from this album, like Back to Black obviously, but after listening to it in full I would absolutely go back again and again. The lyrics are great, the songs are fantastic, and they mesh together well without sounding like the same thing repeated over and over.

Great!

I mean, even as someone who isn't a stereotypical Amy Winehouse fan this is an incredible album, absolutely packed full of incredible songs. And of course an outstanding vocal performance. Back to Black, the centre piece of the album is still just as devastating even after hearing it a hundred times. The only criticism is towards the end the songs are a bit half formed or too short.

Excellent album, what a voice!

Ah - lovely Amy. I guess it was pretty tough to be her. But to be able to sing with such maturity at such a young age was a great gift. This is an essential album.

Clássico incomparável!

One of the greatest albums - ever 10/10 This will stand the judge of time for ever

Amy Winehouse was very unique, and her songwriting was also very special and good. Her voice was distinctive, somewhat whining yet powerful. When I first heard Back to Black, I was absolutely thrilled. Unfortunately, she's not very present in the public eye anymore, which I regret. The album is definitely wonderful and is one of those albums I listen to again and again.

Loved it.

What a powerful soul Amy was. Her vocals were incredible, each song felt silky. I would listen to this again and again!

Back to black- Amy Winehouse Genre- soul and popish Definition of a 10/10 album Rehab is peak love the drums and body perc No bad songs in the album October 27th 2006 2nd studio album You know I’m no Good is so good vocals throughout and sax is singgngnggg Back to Black is the second and final studio album by English singer and songwriter Amy Winehouse, released on 27 October 2006 by Island Records. Winehouse predominantly based the album on her tumultuous relationship with then-ex-boyfriend and future husband Blake Fielder-Civil, who temporarily left her to pursue his previous ex-girlfriend. Their short-lived separation spurred her to create an album that explores themes of guilt, grief, infidelity, heartbreak and trauma in a relationship. OVERALL PEAL ALBUM

Favorite Tracks: Tears Dry On Their Own, Addicted, Wake Up Alone, Back To Black Wow, this was incredible from start to finish! I love the modern feel of the album with Amy's soulful voice. It's devastating that she died so young, but she definitely made an impact in her short time here.

I loved it & will listen again

Wonderful, want vinyl

I can't tell if this album is a cry for help that we collectively ignored, or Amy declaring her stubbornness and refusing any help. Maybe it's both. It should never have been her final album. It's a masterpiece. RIP. Also, props to Mark Ronson for making this blend of a 1960s and modern feel.

Her sultry voice is iconic, I loved every part of this record. It’s always a shame when you think about what happened to her because I feel like she was just scratching the surface as an artist. RIP!

HIT AFTER HIT AFTER HIT

Soulful, powerful, unique voice.

I had assumed that at least some of these were covers because of how classic they were. I didn’t like Rehab when it first came out but my god now this whole album is just glitteringly darkly beautiful.

So damn smooth

Yes! Perfection from start to finish. The juxtaposition of the classic big band music with Amy’s angsty lyrics and rich, effortless vocals make this an instant classic for me. Will revisit often. Such a shame we never got to hear her evolve as an artist.

An absolute masterpiece, and one of the few albums where the deluxe edition still isn't enough.

Modern classic, properly good album, tears dry on their own is an absolute banger. 5 stars.

Wow! The hits on this album are absolutely amazing, Mark Ronson really had an ear for really good production. I think we can certainly consider this album a modern classic

amazing album. no notes

Previously rated: #46 - Frank (5/5) ************************ Album #957 Frank was my first big surprise 5/5 on this list. This one is not as big of a surprise, but it's just as fantastic. The one song I wasn't crazy about was Addicted; it was just too on the nose about drugs, no subtlety. That, and it sounded like one of her songs on Frank. Can't remember which. Otherwise, it's great fun, catchy, jazzy, girl group stuff.

Incredible album. Incredible voice. Incredible production.

This will just never not be some of the best heartbreak songwriting everrrrrr. I’ll never forget turning over “we only said goodbye with words” when I first heard Back to Black and thinking wow, that’s such a simple line that completely captures the impossibility of letting go of someone you love, even when you’ve said all of the things. “My tears dry on their own” is a similar line to me. There’s the reality of the heartbreak and then also a self-resilience in knowing the pain will pass in time. I love this album, and I love indulging in these feelings.

Beautiful and tragic and such an outstanding album. Love you Amy

To others saying that this is some sort of pastiche of 60s music or that she isn’t sincere, you’re wide of the mark. The best music takes something familiar and changes it to make it new, that’s what Winehouse does here. As for sincere, listen to the lyrics then look at how her short life panned out. She meant it.

This album isn’t music — it’s a confession booth in 4/4 time. Every track bleeds eyeliner and cigarette smoke. Amy doesn’t just sing heartbreak; she weaponizes it. Her voice sounds like it’s lived three lifetimes, all of them slightly illegal. Rating: 5/5 Short Review: Heartache with perfect eyeliner. The Motown revival that made sadness sound like seduction. Favorite Track: “Love Is a Losing Game” — it’s the sound of someone remembering the best mistake they ever made.

The voice alone makes it a 4

Perhaps the best album of the 00's. There was no escaping this record back then, and for good reason. The album is packed to the brim with hit singles. And even outside of those are a couple of excellent songs, like for example 'Some Unholy War'. Amy's voice takes you on an excellent journey. 5/5

Sweet spot for length and fun

I think I could listen to Amy any time. Sad to see her go so soon.

Amy Winehouse was a generational talent, who paid respect to the legends of jazz and soul while doing her own thing. This is one of the best albums of this century I think, the first half especially is completely flawless. Ronson's production also has to be credited, and the band sounds so tight throughout

Classic

Such an amazing album. So good to hear it in its entirety.

Remembered this being good but the title track goes way crazier than I thought oh my god

My feelings about this album and Amy Winehouse are nuanced. So instead I’ll just say, “I love it,” because I do.

Banger

Exceptional album. Superb.

Чудовий альбом

Stunning. Incredible album.

Fantastic Friday/weekend album. Im here for the glorification of Amy into rock star martyr (that comes with some reality distortion that ill explain later). This is what an unfiltered Taylor Swift would make with a near Adele level voice. When she sings “What kind of FUckErYyy are wee”, I get the pure emotion with the strong pipes. I dig My lukewarm take: Although I love this, I dont get the magnitude of this album. Number 33 on Rolling Stone’s top 500 albums seems a bit overrated in my head. I can only think that her death was the jet fuel behind the popularity and obsession here

I fucking love this album. Plug for the HBO documentary about Amy - so good, so sad. Wish we’d gotten 10 more albums from her after this. She was the shit

10/10 Favorites: Rehab You Know I'm No Good Me & Mr. Jones Just Friends Back To Black Love Is A Losing Game Tears Dry On Their Own Wake Up Alone Some Unholy War He Can Only Hold Her

Excellent album to listen to over and over. Powerful, vulnerable, and heartbreaking. Reminiscent of the girl groups of the 60s with a little more edge and better sound clarity. Great horns, guitar, and of course the imperfect perfection of Amy’s vocals.

An absolute gem of an album. Every track on here could have been released as a single and been a massive hit. Well worthy of being on this list

im Airnbn - sehr guete und bekannte vibe

This is gold. I've been listening to it for the past decade, and I gladly listened to it again for the project

All time fave

Amazing

I'm amazed by how I know every single one of these songs without having heard the full album before. Truly goated status

Pretty stunning. Great voice, consistent jazzy vibe. By turns romantic and poignant. I was surprised so many of her hits were on one album. I was surprised I even knew so many Amy Winehouse songs to be honest. And it's only 34 minutes long to boot? Talk about not overstaying your welcome

Perfect production, perfect singing. Both retro in feel and modern in sound. Sad this is only the 2nd of amy's finished albums. Although not as close and personal as Frank this is a leap forward in soundscape. Both fun and moving. Highlights include wake up alone and love is a losing game whixh are masterclasses in communicating a breakup. Just an amazing album.

Absolute classic. Gone too soon

My junkie queen. As someone who loves older music, Amy's work is kind of a dream come true -- it's deeply influenced by it, while still making it modern, accessible, and just damn good. By my money, "Back To Black" is perhaps a little safer than "Frank," but I think this is a result of her finding her niche, and choosing to just stick in it and master it for one full album. It's extraordinary, and endlessly re-listenable.

Transformative

As tight and fresh as it was when it came out in 2006. Fantastic from front to back. 5/5

Great stuff. I could listen to this album a lot.

It's weird that I hadn't listened to her beyond her biggest hits before given her famed Ronettes love (and of Motown), right down my street embracing some of my biggest music loves while also doing her own thing

An amazing album top to bottom. I feel a profound sadness every time I hear Rehab.

Fantastic album!

Timeless.

Sou muito fã da amy e esse álbum é um clássico!

Did not get sick of listening to this all day. I may need it in vinyl.

Love it

Tykkään valtavan paljon tästä levystä ja löytyykin levyhyllystä.

A timeless voice. Perhaps the most shameful of all British tabloid media's victims

Nice listen. Plenty of enjoyable songs! I may be the minority, but I'm not a huge fan of her voice. However, songwriting and rhythm really shine, and its still a 5/5 album.

Does it feel a bit appropriated from the 60’s? Yes. Is it still really great music front to back? Also yes. I never gave this a chance when it came out because it was too hyped, but it’s pretty great now and I’m glad I got around to it.

Outstanding

Listening to the track Rehab with good headphones, makes you appreciate just how much instrumentation is going on, an absolute classic. A true master of story telling and crafting a musical journey, Winehouse is truly a great. Every tune is dripping with personality. Highlight - Tears Dry On Their Own, He Can Only Hold Her ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

So damn good. Her death was a loss to the world of music.

Bellissimo, si sente la produzione di pregio di Markone

Addiction is bad - it makes you desperate, destructive, leads to an untimely death and robs you of your remarkable potential. Somewhere along the path of ruin, it left this remarkable collection of soulful songs.

Incredible album. The album opens with rehab which is a bit bitter sweet, great song but also a reminder of how we lost such a talent far too soon. Amy shares her soul with us, her heart ache and wanting are prevalent throughout this album. Back to black and tears dry on their own my two favorites. Me and Mr jones, you know I'm no good, and Love is a losing game are other highlights. Nothing but brilliance on this record start to finish. Amy takes old classic sounds of soul, blues and jazz, adds a modern tone and creates an amazing sound that instantly grabs you. One of my very favorite albums, an absolutely beautiful piece of work.

classic millenial blue eyed soul

Such a great album. A real refreshing voice that is both modern and a throwback. Every track is a banger and at 34 minutes it doesn't waste a second. A true classic.

I listened to and rated her debut album "Frank" just last month. I said "I like "Back To Black", but this is a great debut album and for me is possibly better" and gave it a 5. I probably agree with that, but I think I like this album a little more than that statement suggests. "You Know I'm No Good" is my favourite Winehouse track by far, "Tears Dry On Their Own" is probably second. I think "Rehab" lets the album down, I just don't like that song. Nevertheless, I will give this one a 5 too. It deserves it.

Amy along with the Dap-Kings, Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi helped the vintage soul sound explode back into the mainstream with what may have been the coolest album of the 2000’s. A great album from a brilliant artist who left us too soon.

Fantastic

Heard it before. Oh Amy, Amy, Amy. One of the greatest voices of this century. She's probably the first celebrity death I remember well and it felt so weird losing a popular singer who came to prominence in my lifetime. I was just a teen and she was way too young too. This album is so great at mimicking past decades and styles but making them fit modern times 4/5

même si ça ne parle que de drogues et d’amours toxiques, c’est du pur miel à mes oreilles

Just great. What an amazing writer she was.

Great album from a great artist. Her voice is instantly recognizable and she made such good songs. Almost all songs on this album are songs I already have on playlists and enjoy when the get played.

A classic!

Rehab reliably makes me contemplate my own mortality. Back to Black is among my favorite dark-lyric songs of all time--there's a great black and white video of her performing on SXSW on YouTube, which is totally haunting. Still haven't see the biopic, but need to find time. Also love the reggae covers on the Deluxe Edition 😁

Excellent album

Fantastic collection of songs that leaves me wanting more.

back in black i hit the sack

Iconic.

Quite possibly a near perfect album. Plenty of hits that defined Amy Winehouse as a huge star for the short time that she was. Great vocals, instrumentation, production, just one of the best from the decade.

I like her style the way it was recorded etc etc

It was a good album

Saw the album title. Thought "Fuck yeah! AC/DC! Five stars!" Re-read the album title. Thought "Fuck yeah! Amy Winehouse! Five Stars!"

so good. so brilliant. soulful, playful,,painful I am sad to finish it I wish we had more Amy

What a distinct voice. She blends classy and vulgar into something her own.

AMAZING poppy blues

Great album with a couple great hits

What a great album, and one I put on all the time. We all would have benefitted from a few more decades of her talent. Perfect album.

Amazing jazz/blues album. The world was not ready for Amy, and Amy was too big and bright for the world. Her star burned out far too brightly and quickly. I loved every bit of this for her voice, her song choices, her delivery.

Underbart

A personal long time fave. 🫶

Such a classic. A voice that held so much soul, depth, and longing. Another artist who left us way too soon.

Love her sound

Awesome voice, awesome album

Fantastic vocal performance without a track that sounds out of place. The theme of the album is cohesive, and the lyrics speak (a bit too) true to Amy Winehouse’s life. Even the sound of this album gives it a 60’s quality to me.

kickass album.....

Knew this one

Dark, beautiful, sad, a perfect capture of her emotional state. You can feel the pain and the attempt to get through her challenges using music so creatively and astoundingly. Musically brilliant and lyrically engaging. A shame there wasn't more, a redemptive third album where she is free of pain would have been beautiful.

Wat een super album! Super stem, mooie liedjes en aangrijpende teksten. Classic!

I fucking love this album. Poor Amy. This begs the theme timeless question of the universe as to whether her end was tragic or perfect. In another time, would this album be tarnished by a weaken Amy Winhouse doing her inevitable residency at The Sphere? Probably.

God this is so fucking good. What a talent. Top to bottom, what a fucking album. Rehab was super overplayed, but that was a giant hit so it makes sense. But the R&B and soul and jazz and blues of it is just something that isn't really in music post 2010. Great shit. Fuck, this is a 5. 1 cuts, 34 minutes, not a single wasted second on the album.

Incredible stuff, way to show up all the other albums this week. No poseuring or pretension, just raw talent. I have a personal preference for Frank-Jazz-era Amy but have to accept this is probably objectively better..am album of Decade contender?

I didn’t listen. I didn’t need to.

Taken from us too soon.

Banger. Not every song is perfect but Amy does a damn good job. She maintains her style but offers variety. 9/10

Crazy to think she was this accomplished by 27, imagine what she would have done by now

Banger Amy Winehouse

amazing artist!

So good, can an album be too personal?

Just an awesome voice. Too bad she's gone.

What an album. She borrows from soul and other old styles and makes chocolate out of it. Catchy as hell and full of meaningful lyrics 4.55

From the very time I heard this record I was in love. I really miss Amy. She could have done some more cool stuff.

Fantastic. Real and effective story telling

I mean this is just a great album. Incredible artist. Fantastic!

Classic

Classic. Love love love

Listened Before? N Wow, this album is miles beyond her debut. What a great sound and what a concept. Classic music with modern lyrics - amazing. I'm glad I heard "Frank" first so that I could see the progression. Every song is strong here with the possible exception of "Just Friends" and " Addicted", although I tend to blame the production more than the actual songs. Added to Library? Y Songs added to playlist: You Know I'm No Good

The only album I've ever listened to by Amy Winehouse. She has an incredible voice, an old soul, and effortless talent. Such a shame that she became a part of the 27 Club

Un disco imperecedero, genial y único de una de las últimas grandes artistas que ha habido en la música. Así de simple.

Every song has deep and soulful lyrics paired with top notch production. Fantastic album!

Poor Amy. Her Da was a right ball sack

Absolutely fantastic. A throwback to that motown sound of women lead singers and their backup.

Such a talented soul. She was born to be a performer. How grateful I am to have witnessed her special gift.

I mean, yeah.

Amy ❤️

Might just be the greatest pop album of all time.

эх ну какая же крутая тетя была.. я бы даже хотела, чтобы на альбоме была еще парочка песен, слушается легко и с удовольствием!

Very few people know the impact Ken Chutney had on Amy’s voice. Before meeting Houmous & Chutney she much more into her industrial trash metal. 4.7 7/11 Tears Dry On Their Own

Every time I listen to Amy, it gives me chills. A tremendous talent gone too soon

RIP sultry queen.

Even when it came out and before her untimely death, this album had the feel of an instant classic. A few years down the road, and it definitely is just that.

A true five through and through. Miss you Amy!!

Love Amy Winehouse. I’ve heard this album a couple times, and it is great. I love her voice.

A masterpiece

One of my favorite albums, have been listening for a decade!

I never really gave Amy Winehouse a proper listen back in the day – mostly because Rehab was so overplayed on the radio (it's still a good song though). But damn, she had a great voice and her blending of pop and soul music makes this a standout album for me. Next on my to-do list is to watch the 'Amy' documentary. Favorite tracks: - Back To Black - Tears Dry On Their Own - He Can Only Hold Her - Valerie (Deluxe Edition)

Aivan vitun timanttia

Absolute fucking classic. One of the best albums ever. So sad that Amy Winehouse died young, imagine the bangers she would have made. Favourite song: Back To Black Honorable Mentions: Every other song

Steller. It's a shame how the industry treated this woman and how she treated herself. But damn if this isn't a generational classic.

God her voice is so so good. Thoroughly enjoyed this.

Amy Winehouse only put out two albums, and they’re both excellent. The other, ‘Frank’, we’ve already reviewed; it’s a bit jazzier and less polished compared to the more soulful sound and elaborate production of ‘Back to Black’. I think many would argue ‘Back to Black’ is objectively the better album, and that may be the case. But I personally feel that the slickness and wall of sound production, while very successful in its own right, comes at the cost of some of the magic of Amy’s music. Her vocals on ‘Back to Black’ are beautiful, but they sound much more rehearsed and I personally prefer the more improvisational or extemporaneous sound on ‘Frank’. All that being said, it’s impossible for me to listen to ‘Back to Black’ and not love every single track. In the writing and production, Amy, Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi do an excellent job of recreating a 60s soul/R&B/Motown sound, aided by fantastic musical accompaniment from Sharon Jones’s Dap-Kings and a full suite of orchestral strings. I think you’d be hard-pressed not to find someone of a certain age who couldn’t tell you what was going on in their lives around ~2007 if you played “Rehab” for them. It’s probably my least favorite song on the album but maybe only because it’s the most played. The other singles from this album, “You Know I’m No Good”, “Back To Black”, “Tears Dry on Their Own”, and “Love is a Losing Game”, are all beautiful songs I haven’t gotten tired of still. “Love is a Losing Game” especially is exquisite. I’d also like to shout out “Just Friends” for preserving some of the jazz flavors from ‘Frank’ and “Addicted” for having a chord progression so insane I’m not sure it even makes sense to call it a progression. If only everyone’s worst album were this good. 9.5/10

Such an emotive voice and excellent production.

A true masterpiece

Member of the 27 club, heiress to the A&W Rootbeer fortune, and one of the greatest voices of her generation. This album sounds like it came from a different era. Amazing. 5

This is one of my all-time fav albums.

Amazing. Soulful, sad, and doing her best

I never cared for Amy while she was around. I wish I had put more effort into listening to this back then

Perfection

wonderful album, gone way too soon.

Snoepen, eeuwig gemis dat er meer had kunnen zijn geweest

Elk nummer een echte banger

LEGENDARY. Maybe top 10 albums of all time

I remember, a week before my 11th birthday, laying in bed at night in my maternal grandparents' house when my (then 76) nanna came into the spare room to tell my (then 41) mum that Amy Winehouse died. This meant nothing to me then, like when somebody on my primary school playground told me Michael Jackson died when I was 8, nearly 9. My earliest musical memories are of mid-2000s rock like Mr Brightside by the Killers, American Idiot by Green Day and Ruby by the Kaiser Chiefs. While my grandad's music taste was quite eclectic before he lost his hearing and the ability to get out of his chair unassisted, I think my nanna was mainly interested in Amy Winehouse's death because she read the Daily Mail every day and Winehouse was a tabloid phenomenon. I have too many both positive and negative associations with this music before ever voluntarily listening to an Amy Winehouse album to rate it objectively. I'm going to give it 5 stars. I think I always did like it, and loved listening to it today.

AMAZING rest in peace, Amy

We always said goodbye with words

First of the albums i rate that i knew more than 3 songs. What an album. Amy’s voice is so captivating, the instrumental is amazing and every tiny detail brings so much to the songs. I could listen to this album on repeat.

Every song was top tier, I could feel the meaning behind the songs and the lyrics were well chosen to deliver her message. Far too many 5/5 songs to be anything less than a 5 star album

I was a "hater" back then... But yeah, she was REALLY that good. Gone way too soon.

Brilliant album

Always loved her soulful vocals

What a tragedy. Not my type of music, but its bloody marvellous.

What a shame she couldn’t get her life under control. She had an incredible and unique voice. The production in this album, in particular the recreation of that 60s sound, is impeccable.

i’m back for this one! hey y’all. nothing to say about this. RIP

I could listen to this a million times and never tire of it.

A wonderful album where Amy puts her full pain and darkness on display, and leaves everything on the table for the listener to hear. A true tapestry of what it means to be an addict, and in a small digestable package to boot. Musically Amy's vocals are unmatched and she pours her heart out with every note. One of my favorite albums of all time.

Damn good! Love the old school arrangements and drums almost as much as Amy’s incredible vocals.

Back to Black was the second and final studio album from Amy Winehouse, the British soul singer who died very young due to issues related to alcohol abuse. She recorded in a style reminiscent of 60s soul and R&B singers, and prompted a resurgence in British soul in the aughts and 2010s. The album won five Grammy awards, including Pop Album, Best New Artist, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year for "Rehab." (won a production Grammy, as well). This is a great album, highlighting Winehouse's incredible voice. Her songs were inspired by a broken relationship, and earned Winehouse praise for her songwriting. The album is mythologized, in a way, for her tragically short life, and the dark irony of her hit song, "Rehab."

Oh, Amy. I knew this one would show up. This album has strongly resonated with me since its debut. Her struggles, her strides, and her soul all bared throughout. My mother raised me on Soul and Motown music and when this record came out, I was immediately transported back to my youth and reminded of how much I love this style; Amy only further emphasized that. She captivates with her distinct voice, lyrics, and composition. She captures a variety of emotions - those that uplift us and make our feet move, to those that make us somber and reflective on our lives and lives of others we know. She carries essences of Billie Holiday, Marvin Gaye, and Diana Ross, among others, but she is and always will be Amy Winehouse. I never knew her personally, but I miss her dearly. Love you, Amy! Favorites: All of them, but "Wake Up Alone" and "Back to Black" really hit home for me.

I still love this album almost 20 years later. The album is a "no skips" album until the last two or three songs. I enjoy them, but I think Wake Up Alone would have been a good closer.

I loved the album. Fantastic voice! Soulful, passionate! My favorite one was Back to Black.

so good. RIP

Masterpiece of course

One of my favourites. I think my favourite one of hers 10/10

banger after banger agfter banger after banger after banger after banger bad bitch fr

Classic

One of the best albums of the 2000s and possibly the best jazz/rock fusion since Steely Dan. Frankly, it's better than Steely Dan because of the rich helping of Stax soul. We were all lucky to have Amy, if only for a short time.

Although I don't like Rehab that much, the rest of the album is pretty much all bangers. Me And Mr. Jones, Love Is A Losing Game and Back To Black are some of my all time favorite songs and this album just all around rules

5 e segue o jogo

Fantastic fantastic a pure classic. Her voice choice of songs is a masterpiece that she unfortunately did not have long live to see what it has become.

Perfect album for women with daddy issues

First album from the list that I got to spin from my collection which is a bonus. Great album which is a solid 4 from me. BUT watching my beautiful girl singing and dancing around the kitchen with her glass of wine (and insisting that it was definately a 5) bumps it to a 5. 8.5/10

It’s just excellent throughout.

I have this album

Pure masterpiece

Classic

All time great

Tempted to go 4 here but the combination of jazz music and her fantastic voice really bring the songs alive! More than understandable why she became such an icon despite having such a small repertoire

Love this album.

One of the best of all time

Such vulnerable and raw songwriting. 5/5 no notes Fave song: Love is a Losing Game

One of the best songwriters of our generation - so vulnerable and raw. 5/5 no notes Fave song - Love is a Losing Game

Unique r&b pop sound. Some classic songs/lines, solid album

Amy was such a beautiful soul! Gone way too soon. There is not a voice like hers. A true classic. Very easy 5 for me.

So but good 7.5/10

Amazing voice - brillant music - a Milestone

It's bloody marvelous is what it is

Very familiar with thus album and a pleasure to listen to.

MY QUEENNNN!!!! hit after hit after hit, the very definition of a five star album!!! One of the artists i would give a lot to follow the rest of their career. gone too soon, im sure she would've gone on to do many more amazing stuff, rest well Amy:(

Hooray finally another Album that I got on vinyl. Great Songs, Great Voice, Great Music. Too bad she said no to rehab but at least her daddy thought she was fine.

Exceptional album top to bottom. Incredible songs, great vocals, musically interesting. The first bars of "Rehab" immediately pull you in and then its banger after banger. Great.

The tragedy of so short a recording career and a lack of material is encapsulated in this, her best release.

Back to Black is one of the best songs of the century

It’s a high 4 or a low 5… rounding up.

Brilliant, soulful, and ultimately sad. I could listen to this a thousand times.

Amazing

What an incredible voice, gone too soon

What kind of fuckery is this? The best kind!!

Probs a 9/10 and felt only fair to round up for our Amy as this is a p impeccable album start to fini

i love it

She'll go far this girl I reckon, can't wait for the next album. Mid 5.

RIP. What a start we lost early. Unfortunate. Great fucking album though. Not sure if we were ready for this when it was released and she blew up.

Amazing front to back.

Amy Winehouse's voice is the type that would usually turn me off, but I love her. I was young when she released this album, but not so young I couldn't appreciate it. I absolutely love Back to Black (the song) - I think it's one of the top songs I've ever heard. It was lovely to listen to the whole album again instead of one or two tracks.

force of nature

Epic epic album obviously

Das erste Album, das ich schon vorher kannt und auch echt mag. Sehr viele Banger dabei und alle Lieder sind mindestens gut!

A great album

What a voice. Makes you sad to think about what might have been. Love Is A Losing Game is worth five stars by itself.

An album of incredible songs, built up from retro parts but possessing a sound that was unique and urgent and still sounds fresh and important 20 years on. Lyrics that were at first titillating have become poignant in the context of her artist - celebrity - dead star arc. She was such a true musician. The greed that flew in around her talent has robbed us of so much.

An amazing talent! 5/5

A true gem of music. Combines old influences yet manages to give them a fresh spin. Beautiful voice, powerful lyrics and great use of backup vocals (don't see this too often). This album truly has no weak links and has several masterpieces. I can't rate it any lower than 4.7

I know of Amy Winehouse, of course, but have never gotten around to listening to her, for some reason. I don't know what I was expecting but this definitely wasn't it. While every song is generally soul or R&B, they're all so incredibly different. She was incredible talented and versatile. "Rehab" is a sad song, considering how she supposedly died but well-written and well-sung, nonetheless. "Just Friends" has almost a reggae groove with the drums/horns/bass. "Back to Black" is a throwback to the 1960s girl groups that clearly influenced Winehouse. "Love Is a Losing Game" is beautiful. "Tears Dry On Their Own" allows her to show off the accuracy of her voice in a faster pace and just straight grooves the whole time. This song feels like it was ripped straight from the 60s, which makes sense considering the sample of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". I will for sure be listening to this album and other Amy Winehouse more. This is incredible. R.I.P.

Great album. She shoulda gone to rehab.

Absolute class. I think she has one of the greatest voices of all time and is a genius of a songwriter. Perfect in every way. Possibly one of the best albums of all time.

Beautiful, soulful, nothing but bangers. Amy has such an incredible, one of a kind voice, and the production on each track is pristine. I sadly never listened to her music while she was alive, and here I am wishing she was still here today.

Classic. No notes.

Reminded me of Adele

Nothing but gold

Pretty good. Added a few songs to my rotation

Modern classic, tortured soul music

One of the best albums ever, just absolute perfection.

My first 5 from the 00s that wasn't one of my teenage albums. You know I'm no good and tears dry on their own stand out but this is top class throughout

Can't help myself. I love this album.

Lost this beautiful soul too soon, fantastic album

Il superiore

Beautiful front to back, with some sexy, fun, and often tragic songs, especially knowing what we know now. Amy was a true generational talent with the soul and pizazz of someone far older than her. One of the great albums of the 21st century.

One of the first albums I ever bought on vinyl. Every song is a hit and so filled with soul and thoughtful lyrics. Hard not to enjoy.

Super soulful pop album that sounds both very retro and modern. Love her voice and many many great tracks throughout. Favourite songs: Rehab, Back To Black, Love Is A Losing Game, He Can Only Hold Her

Love Amy, and this is her best. Poppy yet powerful soul with modern bases and an astonishing voice. Songs are great and part of my youth (although I didn't give a shit then). Amazing artist that always sets me a bit sad when thinking about her story and tragic ending.

classic. my childhood. i think of spring break in florida and trips to the grand canyon

Possibly one of the most compelling artists of all time

Overdone? Sure, maybe. Incredible? Absolutely. Best song: Back to Black

Incredible album in every facet. Great songwriting, great arrangement, great structure. Never has there been a better album for people in situationships. Unrequited love has never felt so timelessly put into song. The vocals are obviously iconic. The instrumentation and production are everything they needed to be and more. The decision to use doo-wop style rhythms for songs about people in fucked up relationships is just a joy. The contrast between the beats and lyrics makes this album unforgettable. Love it from start to finish. So many bangers. Can’t get enough. 5/5

Honestly I enjoyed this more than expected. The blend of soul, r&b and pop with nods to 60s girl groups creates an intriguing and dynamic sound. I’ve added Back to Black and Me & Mr. Jones to my main playlist because they immediately caught my attention and are 10/10 for dramatically dancing around the house with or without a glass of wine. +1 for the line “what kind of fuckery is this” which caught me by surprise but instantly reached me on a spiritual level.

i love her voice so goddamn much. beautiful album <3

Great vocals, lyrics on point—it really was a great album. 9.5 out of 10.

One of the greats albums of all time

Solid album; not a bad song in the bunch. Enjoy Amy’s tone and phrasing. The Dap-Kings as back up band really made this album.

As a callow youth I though Back to Black, and in particular, Rehab, was callow. With the benefit of hindsight one can see what an absolute belter of this album is. One of the finest singers of her (my) generation mixing a classic genre with the experiences of mid-2000s UK.

Well, this one is my one and only in the Amy's work. It's the only album by this undoubtedly talented person that I can listen to from beginning to end.

This album is a masterpiece. It's so short, but every second of each track is meticulously crafted to describe the emotional rollercoaster of losing love, while also threading in a consistent undertone of addiction (to both the person, and alcohol). Each song is completely distinct and stands on it's own merits, but the track list is very cohesive in its overall sound. There will never be another album quite like this album, and it's a goddamn tragedy Amy didn't have the opportunity to continue to grow her talent. 5/5

Great voice, great band, great material.
