great voice wish she was still here

Great voice…great music…great atmosphere…what a loss.

Me gusto que todas sus canciones tienen un trasfondo de vivencias durisimas que estaba pasando en esos momentos. Gran album, pobre shava.

Sehr gut

wooooow

We don't need 2 Winehouse albums on this list, but this is the better one.

I wouldn't call myself an Amy Winehouse fan but this album feels from the heart and opening her problems up to the world. Including her addiction. Prophetic I guess. Feel this deserves a high rating for this as well as the music.

Masterpiece. Modern day classic

An absolute all time banger of an album. Amy Winehouse nails it with this one.

I didn't like Rehab when it came out. Still didn't like it when I listened to it. The rest of the album is amazing

A sensational album. Has always been a favourite and for good reason. Just so sad the story behind it all and what everything led to. Amy is a genius I love her. No skips beautiful album.

This one is a treat. Soul isn't a genre I'm at all familiar with, but I very much enjoyed this little foray The instrumentation is a particular win for me. Some great bass stuff, nothing I think is that revolutionary but it forms such a nice foundation for the strings and the brass Her vocals fit very well, I don't have much to say beyond the fact that I find them very complementary to the music This really hit for me: short, sweet, and a much needed stylistic change from so much of the stuff we've had so far

so iconic - love her vocal style. love the instrumentation and use of fun percussion and big brass sounds. upbeat songs with dark/sad lyrics/stories are always bangers. that said the more melancholic sounding songs such as 'love is a losing game' are also beautiful. it takes a lot for me to enjoy listening to ballad type songs but if anyones gonna convince me it's amy winehouse

i fucking LOVE THIS ALBUM!!!!!!! Idek what to say it's so fucking peak every song is perfect she's a genius. I feel like I listen to Frank more often maybe because it's a little bit lighter, but Back to Black is for sure the best display of her artistry... such a brilliant manifestation of so much heartbreak and angst and grief I love Amy Winehouse so fucking much guys

Yeah, this is the good stuff. Amy Winehouse's tragic short career and becoming a victim of the 27 Curse have been well documented but for 35 minutes it all came together on an incredible R&B album. Her voice is mesmerizing and the backing music is perfect as well. The obvious parallel here is Miseducation of Lauryn Hill - both are genre-defining albums that unfortunately never had appropriate followups. Best tracks: Rehab, You Know I'm No Good, Back to Black, Tears Dry On Their Own

Classic. Great pop album. Lots of funk

10/10 Great album, so souly…

Incredible album, has the iconic song back to black and she has an amazing voice. fav song: love is a loosing game 4.5/5

She left a perfect, tragic back catalogue

Just stellar. When I saw the documentary (was there also a biopic? I didn't see that) I just wanted Barbra Streisand to swoop in, feed her chicken soup, and explain how to have the career she wanted. I feel like Mark Ronson gets a little too much credit for this album. He produced half of it and wrote one song.

favs: tears dry on their own

Amaziiingggg!!!! Loved every second!

amy winehouse you beautiful soul, may you rest in peace. really touching album, you can hear how hard she was fighting to keep it together

Okay I didn't finish this album today but I've listened to it many times. I love amy winehouse, RIP, this was her best work and truly a masterpiece of jazz and pop fusion. No computer effects, just instruments and amazing vocals.

I have always deeply loved this album and consider it one of the best of the 2000's. Amy was a generational talent, and I always feel her loss acutely when I listen to her music. Her raw vulnerability and vocal power combine to create an emotionally resonant and beautiful album. Amy's songwriting and the 60's soul inspired production are such a perfect combination, paying homage to the past while also sounding completely her own. It's a heartbreaking listen, because Amy had so much more to offer and we lost her much too soon.

Hereux et fier d'avoir été biberonné à cet album, en boucle dans la voiture ma maman

Incroyable ça bouge pas

iconic

5/5 good album! Kinda dark and sad but at the same time it does a good job balancing such heavy topics

One of my all-time favourite albums. Was a pleasure to relisten and I wish I could have seen Amy live. What a powerhouse

Fav on this is He Can Only Hold Her. Fantastic album, complicated and tragic artist.

Beautiful, sad, angry, crass, wonderful album. One of my favorites and it’s a shame to be without her, a shame that the album feels so ominous in retrospect.

Such a great album. Her voice is brilliant and I love the production. Some stone cold classics and only one song that isn't 8/10 or above. It does make me sad though.

Magnifique!

it doesn’t get much better than this 🙂‍↕️

Favorite tracks: - Rehab - You Know I’m No Good - Back to Black - Love Is a Losing Game - Tears Dry On Their Own

10/10, myliu. Fav - he can only hold her

fuuuuck this album is so good! i heard rehab at work yesterday and i was trying to place it but didnt know why i knew it. assumed the singer was Black because damn what a beautiful voice. such a nice soul sound, & the brass goes crazy IS THIS WHERE WHAT KIND OF FUCKERY IS THIS IS FROM. jesus i should have listened to this album years ago nothing much to say about this album that im sure hasnt already been said. incredible vocals, beautiful instrumentals, a gorgeous swung soul sound, ticks all my boxes. god damn. what a sincerely relaxing listen. no wonder people love amy winehouse i went trawling her wikipedia because i realised i genuinely dont know much about her aside from her name, and its really heartening hearing about how her success was the driving force to get producers to bring on more female artists in the alt-pop scene. a little embarassing that i didnt know about her before but the second best time to learn about her is today highlights: rehab <3

Somehow both nostalgic and ahead of its time, Back to Black is a triumph of performance and songwriting. I remember when Amy Winehouse died. The same day Borders went out of business. My dad’s coworker was laughing about how she’d written the song “Rehab,” and then died from an overdose. I felt sad, even though I want all that familiar with her. I found her both alluring and frightening. I’m working on “Valerie” with a voice student now. A lot of disparate thoughts, but I think that speaks to something in her legacy. She paved the way for artists like Adele and Florence + The Machine. Her death was tragic, and an incredible loss to culture.

one of my favourite albums of all time

What a voice what a talent what a loss. This album is magnificent dripping with longing and heartbreak. You are transported back in time to clubs in the 50s. Dripping with elegance and anguish.

10/10 no notes, simply a revolutionary album

It's stunning, soulful , and beautiful in every way. Her voice is incomparable, the production is perfect and the album is a complete work of artistry. Listening to it now in hindsight gives the album a whole new and tragic patina. It made me mournful for what could of been, but incredibly grateful for what was.

Waiter, waiter, more Amy Winehouse albums please

real music.

October 27, 2006. Many a great thing was birthed onto humanity on that day. Well, okay, a few things were birthed on that day. You know, things like this album... and myself. Yep! This album was released on my exact date of birth! Pretty cool, huh? Please don't do anything bad with this information. With that said, it should be obvious that Amy Winehouse's Back to Black is not my favorite thing to be released on the day that it was released. It is, however, quite outstanding. Yeah, this album is amazing. Her 2003 debut, Frank, was solid enough, but Back to Black is a genuine artistic statement that has gone down as one of the defining albums of the 2000s. But what is it that makes this album so special? Well, it's kind of the blend of everything. Amy's vocals are stunning and delightful. The production, courtesy of Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, is excellent. The retro aesthetic combined with modern high-quality production makes the album utterly timeless. Those things are great, obviously, but I think the real emotional power of this album comes from Amy's songwriting. It combines deep vulnerability surrounding relationships and Amy's personal well-being (or the lack there-of) with just a hint of humor and it's incredibly effective at everything it sets out to accomplish. I mean, think about the singles on this thing! "Rehab" is iconic and it is kind of a banger, though it is rather sad to go back to with what we know now. Yeah, an unfortunate part of this album's legacy is the fact that it was the final album that Amy Winehouse released before her tragic death in 2011 at 27 years old. It gives the album this air of tragedy that makes the lyrics hit so much harder. It's a shame, really. Back to the songs, "You Know I'm No Good" is stellar. It has some of the best energy on the album. I love it. "Love is a Losing Game" and "Tears Dry On Their Own" are both great break-up songs with pretty different atmospheres. But for me, the best song on here is easily the title track. I think it's the progression on this one. The musical ups and downs that this song takes are just captivating and the writing is just perfect for the message. So, yeah. That's Back to Black. As stated earlier, this album's legacy has been partially defined by the real tragedy that contextualizes much of the album's material, but it's a great listen regardless. The vulnerable writing and excellent music make for an album that should have a little something for everyone, but is made even more special for those who can relate to it. There's a reason why this album has become so iconic in the nearly 20 years since its release. Could it be perhaps that the album is amazing? Yeah. It could be. Light 5/5.

Favorite Track: Back To Black

She's so good at making me feel her pain, and I cry with her on almost every song. I'm in love with the 60s soul and doo-wop sounds, her voice, the backup vocalists, and almost everything on this album. Notable exception: the absolute trash mastering/engineering. I hate how the levels are often pushed so high the horns and her voice disappear into static, but that's not Amy's fault ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Already listened many times. incredible as always. 5 stars

I miss her

Una maravilla de álbum, una obra maestra que perdurará en la historia de la música. Eterna Amy

Amazing

I think there's a reason that almost all of these songs are famous rather. Oh Amy, how the men in your life failed you x

This one is so good. The voice, the words, It pulls hearstrings.

It's rare that I immediately get excited about my album of the day. Today is one of those days but also bittersweet. It's been a while since I've listened to this one all the way through. Damn, I love her voice. Throw in Mark Ronson and the Dap-Kings on top of that? So good. Listened twice.

This has always been a favorite of mine: beautiful voice, jazzy instrumentals, and a talent gone too soon. Likes: Rehab; You Know I’m No Good; Just Friends; Back to Black; Tears Dry on Their Own; He Can Only Hold Her; Addicted

Yeah no wonder this album sold like 20M copies That was really really good, just feels like a love letter to the 60s. Her vocals are absolutely suited for this more soulful sound than they were for Frank. Lyrics feel very very personal. There’s a lot of great songs on there; Rehab is super memorable, Tears Dry on their Own is overlayed over on of my favorite songs (Ain’t no Mountain High Enough), but it has a completely unique identity rather than feeling like it’s a knockoff, Me and Mr Jones just swings really hard (and apparently the subject is Nas for some reason lol). The variety on this one’s excellent, definitely an album that’s better than the sum of its parts. There really isn’t a whole lot I have to complain about, there’s no bad songs in here. 34 minutes honestly feels short and I wouldn’t be too opposed to an extra track in there or two, but that’s just nitpicking at this point. Think it would be hard to say there’s a whole lot of 2000s albums that outshine this one on the list, just a really great piece of art from an artist that passed away way too soon

Amy Winehouse only put out two albums, and they’re both excellent. The other, ‘Frank’, we’ve already reviewed. Which is a bit jazzier and less polished compared to the more soulful sound and elaborate production of ‘Back to Black’. I would argue it’s objectively her best album. It’s an incredible album in every way. Great songwriting, great arrangement, great structure. The vocals are obviously iconic. The instrumentation and production are everything they needed to be and more. The decision to use doo-wop style rhythms for the songs is just a joy. The contrast between the beats and lyrics makes this album unforgettable. Love it from start to finish. So many bangers. 5/5

a legend, an icon, the Instrumentation! the compositions , the lyrics amazing !

better than i thought

One of my faaavvvvsssss, no doubt.

Great album. I'd like to give this a 9/10, but don't think it's a 10, but it's better than 8/10, so 5/5 it is.

What an album. Centering on three crucial tracks, this represents her talent, skill and potential. She’s sorely missed.

Fantastic album from Amy Winehouse. She might be one of the best soul singers ever and this album surpassed my expectations.

Banger - each song is a trip

So many good tracks - there isn't a weak one on there. You forget how amazing it is until you listen to it again.

AND ILL RUN BACK TO (this album)

I LOVE AMY WINEHOUSE

One of the greats albums of all time, it's worth personal a great way to remember the soul of the music

We wore this record out when it dropped. Frank Sinatra once said that Amy was the one (then) current artist “singing jazz the right way.” Tremendous album I only wish there was more.

Couldn’t be arsed with this back in the day cos i just thought she was a dick head. I was familiar with the singles which I didn’t mind. So today I gave it a full listen to, more than a few times, and yeah it’s a class album, not a bad track on it.

What a killer voice and an excellent album Favorite Songs: Rehab, You Know I'm No Good, Back to Black

Un sans faute , tout est a garder, on a des chansons a structure simple qui envoient du sax 🎷. Un storytelling au top dans toutes les chansons, que demander de plus ?

One of my favorite albums! Incredibly talented.

This is a stunning album. Such a shame she left us so young. The massive jump in quality between her debut and this second album is phenomenal.

I didn't know this other than the singles.

Brilliance throughout. Sometimes it's hard to really decide how much of a deceased artists hype is the art rather than the mythology. This is amazing. At the time I was far too snobby and boring to realise it but over time this has become a real favourite of mine.

So much more going on in the opening track than in an entire double album by The Rolling Stones. Peerless and perfect

Talent tarnished by troubles often brings out some of the best, powerful music you will experience, Amy was the perfect example of this. Kudos to Mark Ronson in recognizing this magic. Having said all that I’ve always preferred Amy’s debut album Frank, but it’s still a 5.

A contemporary classic made by a true tortured artist

toller sound mit einer soulig-groovigen stimme - fantastisch!

Die Amy, welch tragische Figur. So grossartige Musik. Schade.

Excelente

This is the definition of a perfect album, only 0-1 skip. It did get a little weaker towards the end of the tracklist.

An amazing album amazing voice. When you are the standard that causes other lesser artists to get signed then you definitely deserve 5 stars

Absolutely incredible album. Every song is good. Production is perfect and her voice and style is iconic. What a loss thinking what else she could have accomplished.

A legend !!

One of the strongest openings to an album ever. A couple duds later on but I truly think this is undeniably great

Soul, rhythm and blues, contemporary R&B, neo soul, pop.

I already know this is a phenomenal album. I love Amy Winehouse.

Holly masterpiece

9.4 / 10 - second half has better stood the test of modernity, very well made songs, very amy winehouse, incredible artist, incredible music huge fan, i might not relisten to all of them especially those in the first half because I may not really fuck with the vibe / message for daily driver consumption, but this is definitely an album worth revisiting for me

Just fab - great sound/songs/vocals - a real classic

Pretty hard to understate the level of hype and buzz around Winehouse in early 2000s UK. She could really wail - she had pipes for days. Helluva voice. This whole album ooozes cool. It's sad to think what could have been, but at least we have this record. Back to back bangers.

Te amo amy

I don't know what all the fuss was about.

An iconic album form an iconic British songwriter and an iconic 21st century album. It has fantastic production on it from start to finish with a cohesive hip-hop/ rnb feel with larger soul and jazz influences. It’s a pop album that feels as refreshing now as it did in the mid 2000’s. Amy’s vocals and humour filled kitchen sink reality lyrics of a young adult really carry the album with fantastic music behind it. Personally I think this is the height of British hip hop and it’s not even really a hip hop album yet with the similarities of sample/interpolated backing tracks, steady groovy beats and addictive breakdowns throughout the album inspired by jazz it’s hard to overlook the old school east coast hip-hop influences. Truly a wonderful album from Britains answer to Lauren hill. A tragic life that left behind so much for us to enjoy. 9.3/10

Absolutely perfect. Amy Winehouse was already on my top list of artists and listening to this album in one sitting made me understand why. Banger after banger and a continuous flow song after after song. Perfection.

I've discovered Rehab when it first came out and thought it was a fun lark of a song. Nice update on the Spector sound. Jokingly talking about important things like Rehab. Little did I know how serious the song was and how sad until Amy passed. I can never listen to this album the same way again and I've only heard it a few times in my life this time. When I listened lots of people who I've loved and who I've lost over the years, particularly those gone way too soon, popped up in my head. A very moving musical experience. How can I not give it five stars?

What a wonderful album!

Absolute classic.

Generational

Top class. Generational talent at her peak.

legend

A classic. Loved this.

excelente album

Amazing voice and vibes

Absoluter Klassiker

Amy Winehouse broke through at a time when I was less involved with music. Since then, I am still surprised that this album is from 2006.

Wake up Alone is a beautifully haunting with no ambiguity of her inner feelings. Her usually strong vocals are softer with strong notes of melancholy towards the end. A stream of light guitar chords wrap her lyrics while strong quick stinging chords pierce through out. This song alone is enough to put this album on the list. Incredibly unfortunate she is part of the 27 club, but we are privileged to have lived during the same time.

Nice, another one on my list of "oughta already know this album" albums. The whole album is at the level of the hits. Great sound! (Learned today that the Dap Kings are the band on the bulk of this! very cool.) Enjoyed tracks like "Some Unholy War" as much as "Rehab." 4.5/5, and yes, belongs on the list.

Excellent, first time I've listened to the whole album

She has a way of capturing pain that is tongue in cheek, and dismissive but has underlying tones of self awareness. She is aware of her shortcomings, but is always sassy and poignant in delivery. As I am 27 I listen to this now, it highlights behaviors in myself. When I listen to her it reminds me to face them head on, with wit, charisma and poise. She captures all of these elements while still being rugged, “unladylike” and outspoken. She created her own version of femininity that’s as compelling as her vocal delivery and creativity. Everyone knows the hits on “Back to Black” but listening to some of the lesser adored tracks the pieces of her story begin to fall into place. You really see her struggle with addiction, relationships both romantic, familial and otherwise. She wears her heart on her sleeve, aggressively. Her haunting vocals can sometimes overshadow the content and context of what her lyrics are about. When you stop to pay attention, the songs are adorned with hauntingly beautiful storytelling and laced with humor to cut through the black veil. 5/5

What kind of fuckery is this? Sing it, queen

Not sure if she'd be more or less popular if she hadn't died young and tragically, but in this case I personally love her music. It's like her sound scratches this weird itch for me and I don't think there's a single song of hers that doesn't have the same effect.

Perfect album, no skips. A great time from top to bottom. Amy had everything going lyrically here — really runs the gamut emotionally. The vintage soul/r&b production with her raw vocal power and songwriting *chef’s kiss*

I don't understand how she replicated so many various styles and eras while also remaining extremely original and timeless. I hope the world knows how lucky we were to ever have her

Great album from front to back. You Know I'm No Good, Back to Black, Love Is a Losing Game, and Tears Dry On Their Own are the standouts for me but there are really no misses at all.

I remember listening to this (a lot) when I was younger, and though I knew it was good and enjoyed it, I found it “uneven” and at times boring (read ballads). As an adult, I hear the ache so loudly. I am more patient with the ballads, and I am even more impressed with the artistry of it all (lyrics, structure, etc.).

Really good jazzy, R&B flavored pop album.

Excellent

The entire Amy Winehouse tidal wave completely passed me by, with the exception of a brief obsession 20 years ago with her incredible Cupid cover, which I had forgotten about til now. While the radio hits were unavoidable, my brain barely processed them, and as such, this album was pretty much completely unfamiliar territory to me. So now that I’ve dabbled I can finally conclude: I MISSED OUT. I was fully in on the smooth vibe of these songs, the band is clear and on point, and Amy’s vocals are engaging. I will dive deeper for sure, based on this. I guess the cost is now I’m sad she’s dead too, so it wasn’t a complete win.

Been a while since I heard this album and I forgot how good it was. A amazing voice gone too soon.

groovy groovy lovely album always makes my day brighter when I hear Amy's voice

Do I need to even write anything

i already have all the songs best album everrr

One can only wonder that Amy Winehouse could have been if she wasn't a heroin addict. This album was everywhere in the 2000s; you couldn't escape it. And for good reason, it's pretty great. Only thing that subtracts from it is that the mixing is a bit odd. Maybe that adds to it's character.

Amy Winehouse deserved better.

It is a rare honor for an artist to have their entire discography on the list. The usual story with those is that they only made a few albums and then died really young, which is exactly what happened here. I had her other album for album 38 and rated it a 4, so I have high expectations for her community-anointed masterpiece. It sounds pretty much exactly like I expected it to sound, with strides made in lyrical content and polish since the debut. The jazz influence is more palpable here, as are the lyrics of lost love, addiction, and emotional ruin. Her distinctive voice works as well as it ever did here, and the backing band is tight. This album is a significant improvement over an already-strong debut, and is deserving of a place in the classic pantheon. Really, I don't know what more I could want from a modern soul album. They say this one's an all-timer, and you know what? They're damn right!

How to turn soul into pop.

Excellent album! Her voice is stunning, the songwriting is top-notch, and the production is brilliant.

This was thoroughly enjoyable to listen to. A mix of styles and time.

A timeless classic. Bought this album when I was 10 years old, and I still love it now, and regularly go back to listen to it. So raw, emotive, honest

Great album all around, honestly one of the best ever. Well rounded, unique, and just a sound that cannot be recreated. My favorite song is Addicted which I had never heard before because I’d never actually listened to the whole thing through but i have 0 complaints. Some of the slower songs (like Love is a Losing Game) are not so my vibe but overall just an amazing album.

Some might say it sounds dated, but it just sounds so good you can't help liking it. It is clearly inspired by the souls music of the 60's but Amy managed to make it sound unique and like her own. Amy's voice is extraordinarily beautiful and captivating. Such a joy to listen to.

re escuchar este álbum se siente como una caricia al alma. Eterna Amy con su voz tan única, te fallamos completamente como sociedad. MIND YOU ya no se hace música de esta calidad

A haunting album in hindsight. The subject matter screams troubled addict who needs help but does not want it. I thought she died shortly after making this album but it was nearly 6 years after its creation but yet never put out any more albums before her death. I remember her being pretty popular but I wonder if her death did immortalize her fame in a way. The songs are her best and most recognized. It’s been a while since I listened to her first album but I remember generally enjoying it maybe even a bit more than this one. That said its a solid album that is kind of tough to listen to in retrospect knowing everything we do about her life and death. 9/10

Amy is amazing. Absolute classic.

great obviously. not as good as frank though

From the kick off I can see why it's a stone cold classic. Absolute Belter of an album - 10/10 wicked. Worth its place on the wall of history. Had me thinking a lot about how amazing Mark Ranson was as a producer

What kinda fuckery is this?

one of the greayest, classy

One of my faves ever. Listened to it again for the sake of the list but always a pleasure. It still sounds so fresh 28 years later. The way Lauryn lives forever in this album is a way any artist would want to to be honest.

10/10 no notes

This is just a solid classic, bangers from beginning to end. One of the best and most soulful modern albums. Back to Black hits like nothing else, Rehab, just amazing. Huge range, and just incredible.

Topschijf!

Глубоко, трагично и до мурашек

Stunning, what could she have become?

One of my favorite albums of all time

I'm not sure I've met someone in person who's listened to this whole album and not liked it.

This is really fucking good, dude. Wow. I feel bad for Amy Winehouse.

Raw, honest, piece of art that would remain in history books, and all of that delivered with a raspy voice that would be dearly missed ❣️

All time favorite album!

Good album

Pretty solid album. Very similar to her first album. The influence of 60's girl groups like The Supremes are prevalent. I think I like this better than her first album.

vinyl day!! this album is a true masterpiece

Piano notes, smoky melodies and melancholic belters. Raw, but not sorry for itself.

Excelente

The genius of this album is how Winehouse embraces the tabloid version of herself with no fucks given and owns it while belting out fully realized songs in her self-assured, brassy voice. Her songs are by turns funny, empowering, tender and heartbreaking, and she has grown since her debut album, which we reviewed earlier. TIL The Dap-Kings were the backing band, which explains how the musical accompaniment is so good, and Mark Ronson’s production is spot-on by keeping things sounding crisp and clean but otherwise leaving it to all the talent on hand. God damn, what a talent she was.

Rating probably partially influenced by subsequent events, but this is a stormer

Powerful album!

Perfecto

What a voice

Best album ever

Awesome album, beautiful voice. One of those album you can listen top to bottom without disappointment

This album reminds me of having dinner at the cottage with my parents over a nice glass of wine. It was the perfect start for me

perfection — I've never actually listened to the entire album, but boy, what a gift!

Realized I only really knew half the songs. It’s so good, but makes me sad.

Amazing. 10/10. No notes.

It's a favorite.

Perfection. As simple as that. Beautiful record. I love it from start to finish with zero skips and no filler whatsoever. Stunning !

Forgot how amazing this album was

Such a beautiful, beautiful voice. Every song was enjoyable.

I’ve cone around to Amy Winehouse. I can’t deny how good her singing is, and I love contralto voices like Fiona Apple.

A masterclass in soulful pop. Incredible production paying homage to the peak of Motown without sounding derivative or hokey, raw lyrics that make you feel like the story being told is your own. And Amy's voice, my god her voice is pure buttery delight. I often think about what could have been had she not left us so young. What kind of music would she have graced us with on her follow up to this absolute classic of an album.

I always liked her. Great album.

Amazing, showstopping, slayed the houseboots down Huston i'm desceased 11/10 all bangers.

Perfect album

Soul music! Looking at the list I see some songs I already know, some I don't. Hit play, quickly pick up on great singing, good playing, good tunes, great arrangements and production (Salaam Remi and Mark Ronson, mmm). Lyrics quite wild! I start reading more widely - oh dear - I knew she had AOD problems, didn't know it was that bad ... That sadness is now hanging over this record for me ... doesn't make the music any worse, but kills my excitement for the "wild vibe" - while leaving the tensions as mesmerising as ever. Went back for extra listens, particularly the songs I found most interesting - some very striking packages of music, lyrics, delivery, eg Tears Dry On Their Own. My appreciation deepens. Some songs are so-so, but overall it's Quite Wonderful, 9/10.

One of the most unique and soulful albums of my time. I still remember the first time I saw her sing Rehab. She blew me away.

This my 41st album and the first time I've been left genuinely wanting more. (Seriously, only 34 minutes.)

Bruuuuv

classico

I get it now, first time listening and I get it. Especially for the final two tracks, excellent music and an excellent voice

이건 제가 무조건 좋아할 수 밖에 없죠 허스키한 여성 보컬리스트인데

That voice!

Heard Frank recently because of 1001 and it blew my mind the evolution of Amy from there to this. The music is amazing, the lyrics are profound and Amy's vocal range is beautiful. Going to definitely listen to it again soon.

Best album of the decade....possibly

We have all heard the jokes, but you should really hear the album too.

Oh my god, this is the album with You Know I'm No Good. I can't believe I have never done a deep dive of this album. My goodness I knew i liked Amy's voice but DAMN GIRL holy shit. TITLE TRACKKKKK<3 oh wow the brass on these tracks. Oh had I thought to listen to this album in my teens, I would be insufferable.

No skips. Derivative? Yeah, I could see that. Do I give a shit? I don't, I can't: the 34-minute runtime puts this at #1 of 1089 for quality per second of playback. Her voice, her lyrics, the punches still deck me 20 years later. Listing the ✅✅✅✅ songs here only: Back to Black Tears Dry On Their Own Wake Up Alone

Never gets old and always feels of the moment. A perfect album that makes doing something bad and raw and gritty just feel so damn...good.

One of the all times, every song carries its own and Amy is in full swing. An incredible talent, a star of the likes we'll never see again. SPUN

well duh

Just an amazing album. It's a smooth ride. The story-telling ballads allow you to just kind of get lost in the listening. Winehouse's voice is phenomenal. "Me and Mr Jones" is a long-time favorite of mine, with "Tears Dry On Their Own" being a close second. Love this album. Utterly timeless.

phenomenal album, truly a no skip what a legacy to leave, love amy love this album and there’s truly nothing like it. such a cohesive sound you forget its not just one long song. this woman truly knows how to tell a story: 10/10

now I’m obsessed with Amy Winehouse

10/10 such a creative and beautiful album, i’m still torn that she passed away so young

Absolutely wonderful album. Perfect for a nice dinner. Relaxing and classic, with tons of nostalgia.

All time album. Easy 5/5. This is Amy at her best. I listened to her debut on this list as well and it doesn’t hold a candle to this one. A perfect sound start to finish. The title track is my favorite, but there are so many gems on here.

My nostalgia for this era probably made this rank higher, but the first 3/4 of this album is great, with the remaining still good listens.

Voice, horns, lyricism, feeling, - this album has everything

Really stellar. Didn't know I'd heard so much Amy Winehouse already. Excited to hear some of these again

Classic album by Winehouse. Solid listen all the way through, and shows serious maturity after her first album. Too bad we lost her. 5/5

a perfect album

Loved!! I’ve owned this album since I was in high school. I loved singing all these songs. I sang a bunch of them at Karaoke at a family reunion back in the day. I didn’t want this album to end!

Amazing beautiful album. I loved her vocals. Imma need more of this kind of music here please.

Absolutely excellent. 5 Stars

Favourite Songs: Rehab You Know I'm No Good Me & Mr Jones Back To Black Addicted

Ive done this album a day thing before and this was one of them. A classic no skip album. I dont know why I dont listen to her more often. It's so raw and real while maintaining its playfulness. I love how she gives credit to her contemporizes something people are rare to do today especially in when crediting black artists. In back to blacks case amny have tried to repeat it and have failed.

My queen Amy. We miss you a lot.

Perfect vocal. Back to Black song is a masterpiece. It's just unbearable pain! What a pity!

Awesome.

Love is a losing game, tears dry on their own, and addicted were all new to me. How had I not listened to this whole album before? Amy, we didn’t deserve you. But we are so grateful you left us with your profound music.

HELL YEAH LITERALLY WAS LISTENING TO HER A COUPLE DAYS AGO cause i remember my last taxi ride in milan having her on aux. guys we already know the rating. shes literally perfect to me.

Great album with a voice like that it’s hard not to give it a 5

Such an easy listen for me. Love this one.

Absolutely impeccable album. Start to finish a belter. A story told through song. What more can be said?

She's great, I can't explain. I love how you can feel and hear the artists the genres, and the culture that influenced her, yet it's so original and one of a kind. The instrument are perfect and her voice inside. Addictive, unrepeatable. I cannot put into words how important she is and her music with her. Timeless, so well produced, so well written. It combines new and old, vintage and modern in everything. It's so detailed and you can just feel the attention, the passion, the talent. Ok, I'll stop, I just love it.

One of my favorite albums

A no skip album from a generational talent. Her voice, her lyrics, this album is everything. Favorite song: Love is a Losing Game.

Banger after banger

One of the finest recording of the 21st century, helped by the production of mark ronson and salaam remi. Retro meets modernism. Who knows what could’ve been had rehab not been necessary…..

A timeless blend of modern R&B and old-school Motown

Dét kender jeg godt, men har ikke hørt længe. Skønt album, dejligt genlyt.

I love this album. I can not count the number of times I have listened to it. Now I am playing it for my daughter.

Great album!

I’ve seen complaints recently that albums are getting shorter, but this is an excellent example of a perfectly concise, iconic record. Timeless sound in a modern setting. Listening reminds me of what a great we lost, wondering what she would have gone on to create.

AMY FOREVER

There’s no way this album was getting anything less than 5.

me encanta, no hay nada igual

I'm being honest I've heard about Amy looooong time ago but because I've just heard back to black (the song) and actually it was a great album, her vibe was just so unique as well as her voice, im gonna listen more about her music actually this album was and it is incredible and so smooth, I love it.

LOVE LOVE LOVE

Absolute banger of an album. The roots in Blues and ska and that raspy rebellious voice of Amy’s is undeniably great, and worth every second of my time listening to this album.

A modern masterpiece

Great album start to finish. There's not a single bad thing to say.

5/5 perfect album 💿

lovely 🥹

El amor es en definitiva la musa más prolífica y eso lo vi en este álbum. Amy escribió y cantó con tanta pasión en este álbum que es imposible no sentir muchas de las canciones como cercanas a uno.

Sensational song writing, story telling and production to support her amazing vocal. The whole album just flows.

Love it

all times fav perfect masterpiece

The brightest candles are always burned at both ends. Amy Winehouse sang jazz standards and was refreshing to hear in the 00's. This album would fit right in a collection of 60's girls groups.

Oh Amy, how I love you. The last four songs drag a little, but the album is undoubtedly a 5. Amy was one of a kind, and a great songwriter.

There is absolutely nothing about this record that I could say that hasn't been repeated in effusive praise elsewhere. I cannot believe this is 20 years old this year. Rest in peace, Amy. You gave us more than we deserved, and we asked of you far more than we had any right to.

Really good vocals, very inspiring, true story, story telling, amazing, chill session

I know it well enough to already know I love it

Even before listening to this I know I’m going to LOVE because I already like a lot of these songs. Ok going to be honest I haven’t finished but I love her and the songs I’ve listened to. That’s all.

Like it.

100/10

love amy winehouse 🤍🤍🤍

Perfekt

This has been on my desert island list since the first time I heard it. RIP Amy 💔

timeless classic! whoever doesn’t like this album doesn’t like music, period

Beautifully bittersweet.. Best = Back to black Skip = Don't skip a single song

I love this album. Amy is incredible here.

Perfect

It’s a shame what the industry did to her, her vocals are unlike any other human personally not my favorite type of music, but I have to give it a five to its legendary status

About as good as albums get. Not a weak song on it and not a moment when her level of performance dips below brilliant. What a tragedy we lost her.

forever a classic amy u will live on a legend and a queen forever

I never paid much attention to this album when it was released as I was living in my own rock n roll world. But after a full listen through now it’s really a great record. In addition to Amy’s timeless vocal style, the production really deserves high credit here too. It really bridges a gap between two worlds helping to create a new modern sound that draws on the past. A modern day Sarah Vaughan. Such a sad story of walking a fine line of tragedy vs success, with tragedy winning out like so many others in the 27 club.

This one is just stacked. Best in class vocals, fantastic songs… not sure what more you’d want from an album. Timeless and near perfect.

Classic and tragic. What could have been… 4.25/5

One of the best pop albums of this century

Gone far too soon. Truly brilliant.

Such an incredible sound. Definitely in my all time Top Ten.

A powerhouse performance. There isn’t a single filler track on here. This was a first listen for me, and I didn’t really know anything about Amy Winehouse until now, other than hearing the opening track on the radio. The album lyrics are of course deeply (and painfully) personal, but so is the music in its blend of influences. I especially enjoyed the interpolation of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” for “Tears Dry On Their Own.” An album with a heart on its sleeve.

I really enjoyed this one. Had given it a listen a few years ago and was pretty neutral about it. This time around it really resonated with me. Great voice. Sad story.

A personal favourite that I haven't listened to in a while. Love the feeling of nostalgia I get from hearing her songs. Such an interesting voice too.

Went through a big Amy Winehouse phase in the late 2010's so pumped for this. Rehab is such a sad foreshadowing of a song. Banger though. Some of these songs are impossible not to like. You Know I'm No Good has that hip-hop/R&B influence on it that meshes perfectly with her voice. Pretty much every aspect of this album is insanely great. Production, style, vocals, timing, it has it all. Hard to not give this a 5.

fantastic album

Hell fucking yeah. It's like if Adele had a backing band. (this will look so stupid when i finally read it, note that i just started listening to Adele not a long time ago. #fadila) Punches through with its opener "Rehab" and then it goes on. Even her calm songs are punchy because of her gorgeous powerful voice. I definitely get the hype now. RIP.

back to her is the only song I really know from this album. So shall discover more

Just amazing

Amy Winehouse was a powerhouse of retro soul and Back to Black is a shining example of the right talents assembled at the right time: the Dap-Kings as the ace backing band, Mark Ronson's incredible production. It's all here. Love is a Losing Game is a devastating ballad with a tremendous arrangement. Winehouse's playfulness with the melodies is what really sets her apart from the more starchy British soul exports of this era: Me & Mr. Jones, You Know I'm No Good, the scatting on Just Friends. I love literally every song. I can cycle through every song in my head because they are all standouts.

Caso curioso.

“Second and final” is so sad. Amy winehouse was incredible. An excellent album and a light gone too soon

She said and sang it all - not much for me to add!

Wow so amazing love amy

Great album really enjoyed it which was a surprise to be honest.

This beautiful Jazz music makes e me feel so great. It’s the first time I wanna listen more songs from this singer. She’s voices is very suitable for Jazz and I cannot imagine she was just 20s.

It’s not just that this is an album with no bad songs, it’s that the songs are across the board excellent. Fantastic album.

I’m convinced there is something for everyone on this album.

I was excited to listen to this in full, and it started off with a banger. A favorite off the album that I hadn't heard before was Me & Mr Jones, but my overall favorite has always been Tears Dry On Their Own. She was an incredible talent, may she rest in peace

This album is fantastic. Her voice, her presence, her emotion. There's no voice like hers anymore.
