Reviews (page 3 of 14)
The title track is simply 3 minutes too short. Real nice moments here, mid-high 4
No tengo yo hoy el mood de llorar pero bueno es una pasada este album
A snapshot from a moment in time. Excellent early Coldplay.
I didn’t realize how many of these songs I know. Awesome overall album
Great 😁Screw the haters
I don't know what people have against this album. Parachutes showcases Coldplay when they were at their best. The songs are absolutely beautiful. Breathtaking. This album gives me so many memories. Some good, some bad. But overall, this album makes me who I am.
Great album, already knew more songs and added more songs to playlists than I thought I would have.
Listening to this album made me extremely nostalgic… and kind of sad. It was so good and it reminded me of when it first came out and I basically wore the CD down. And how great Coldplay were when I saw them live at the Hollywood Bowl. The rawness and indie vibes of this particular album really hold up after 25 years. What made me sad was how their later music, so much more slick and poppy sort of turned me off to the band. After listening to it again though I may have to put it back into the rotation.
OH MEIN GOTT ICH LIEBE DIESES ALBUM
Went in expecting some flavor of budget Radiohead given the discourse I've heard/seen regarding the album, definitely more than that. The lead vocalist has a really calming voice and it was a great wind-down album given how wild of a day I had when I listened to this. I could easily see this becoming a part of my regular rotation when I'm in the mood for some moody alt-rock :>
A lot of people discount Coldplay based on what they've been putting on the radio for the last decade or so, but this debut album is actually perfect from start to finish.
Feels warm and cozy.
I just love coldplay
What a way to start the millennium with an album that is almost perfect. Every song on it is fantastic and gripping and entertaining, it is a complete album with excellent pacing to keep you engaged with it from start to finish.
Love this album. Puts you in a spacy sort of mood.
Brings me back to HS. Great album. Piano needs to be brought back to more music.
The best Coldplay there has ever been. Garden State using Don't Panic as the start of the movie was perfect for a perfect soundtrack. Every song is just good. 40 Year Old Virgin made a gay joke using Coldplay and now every insecure hetero man hates them. Viva La Vida and everything beyond it feels like a 40 year old dad fighting to stay relevant with his kids, but those first two albums will live on.
Easiest 5* ever. My favourite band, my one celebrity crush and "Don't Panic" is on of my fave songs.
Incredibly pleasant album, noting negative to say.
What a perfect album. Absolutely amazing from front to back. No misses
Banger
My first coldplay album ever and even songs, didn't have to listen to them much. First thought was "now this is gonna be the most boring album listening experience". Before that put a curtain around myself and listened to only classic legendary rock groups from 60s-80s or metal stuff. I thought these are gonna be blank, indistinguishable songs with boring lyrics about love or how beautiful life is. Oh, how wrong I was. The wall around me broke more and more with each song I listened from that album, reluctantly adding songs to the "obscured" playlist. The wall around my music taste was completely destroyed by the "Yellow" song. Now I think I begin to understand what it means to be a music lover and listen to everything. Such beautiful vocals on this album, such beautiful acoustic and piano pieces. No aggressive or out-of-line songs in this album, truly a new experience for me and quite a magic one, had to listen the whole album twice to really enjoy the first half of songs after "breaking the wall". Songs saved: 6/10.
I really, really liked this one. It’s introspective, melancholic, and atmospheric in a cinematic way which is absolutely brilliant. Every track stands on its own and brings somebody awesome to the table. There is absolutely nothing I would change about this album. Favorite Tracks: Don’t Panic, We Never Change, Shivers, Sparks, Yellow, and Parachutes (brilliant interlude).
I know some people like to hate on Coldplay, but I love this album. I don't love the more recent stuff, but this album is such a perfectly chill listen.
right out of the gate. Coldplay had it
Coldplay will always be special to me. Their early stuff still stands out today. "Parachutes" is a forever classic. The underrated song of the album is "Shiver". I enjoyed every song on it. 5 stars for "Parachutes".
Outstanding album and debut. Even if I don't like their newer stuff, this one will always be in a special place. Fav Track: Don't Panic
Excellent album love it!!
So so so good. I love it. Not a single song I didn't thoroughly enjoy.
Resonates so much even after a billion playthroughs.
Modern classic, britpop perfection. Wish Coldplay hadn’t forgotten how to make this kind of music.
Yellow will always be one of my absolute favorite songs. The rest of the album is just okay, but I’m giving 5 stars just for Yellow.
easy 5, one of my favorite albums of all time! it’s just fantastic all around. this is the coldplay i love the most. yellow is one of those songs i simply haven’t gotten tired of yet through all these years. mainly because i truly love the original sound of it. it’s kind of alt rocky and that guitar riff is the best part about it. just never gets old to listen to. sparks is really, really nice to play on acoustic guitar. and while listening to this for the millionth time i now want to learn the short title track, parachutes. i also see the weird coldplay hate shines through in the review section. i’ve never understood it, but then again i don’t understand humans.
My favourite album from Coldplay. When they had some soul. Ruined everything after their third album.
This was a surprisingly great album. I never thought to look at their older work. I think Shiver, Spies, and High Speed were my favorites. Have to listen again.
Love it it's a lot of songs I've cone across on the radio
Great album
Net als "Everything's Not Lost".
So good
Honestly, forgot how great this album is. Musically, but also emotionally. First 5 of the project
Great album. Really draws you in to their sound.
Nothing but straight heat I can't put into words how much I wish all of Coldplay died in a plane crash after the first two albums, people talk about the Radiohead influence in this album but I hear so much Jeff Buckley too, yeah sorry this is banger after banger I love you early Coldplay
4,5 (i've listened 4 times now, I really like this) I've been looking forward to this. Coldplay have been on my listen-to-list for ages. A controversial band, loved and hated. I know the hits: Viva, paradise, yellow, sky full of stars, but have never gotten around to listen thoroughly and make my own opinion. Although I have a lot of respect for Chris Martin as a human being, pop-cultural influencer and songwriter. So much radiohead inspiration here, that's cool. But still in a pop setting. It's more like sob rock. Like doesn't "High Speed" and "We Never Change" sound so much like "Subterranean Homesick Alien"? And isn't that song a homage to Bob Dylan's "Sub. Homesick Blues"? So it goes Bob Dylan -> Radiohead -> Coldplay I wonder who Bob was inspired by for that song. And when i'll make my entré onto that list haha. It's very pop, but just enough of the alternative to call it something else. I also love how it's holding back from going "all-in" on full pop. Like they are probably very young here and are very aware about not being too mainstream at this point haha. Love the simple rockband setting. Like it's just drums, bass, electric, acoustic and his vocals. Oh, and the backingvocals are so good. I think this album is very influential. It feels like this album has shaped so much pop rock in the 21st century, especially in the 2000's: Maroon 5, The Script, The Fray, Snow Patrol and all that sobby raspy male voice stuff. It's almost perfect that it was released in the year 2000. Love the coverart. And how the title track is only 40 seconds And that there is a ghost track. Love stuff like that. I'm giving it 5 (would give it 4,5), for grapping my attention so much, and because I feel like I will listen to this a lot. Favorite tracks: Don't Panic Sparks Yellow High Speed We Never Change Fun fact: Coldplay is number 6 most streamed the last 28 days right now. Just checked. I had no idea that they still are this big. That's crazy.
Always a favorite. Brilliant, sad, well made
I loved this one when it was new. You could release this today and it would be a massive hit all over again.
Didn't even have to listen to know it's a 5...but I listened anyway because it's so good. Personal connections to music can easily outweigh the quality itself, but in this case, it's just so solid. What a way to announce yourselves to the world.
Special guest reviewer says: epic sometimes minor key melancholy without causing pain, Yellow is a headbanger. Better than the White Album. So good.
One of my favorite albums. First time listening to it in entirety
Nice to get an album I don’t even need to listen to today to know it’s getting a 5. I’ve loved this album for a while.
супер
Don’t even have to listen to this today because this is one of my favorites of all time and I know it like the back of my hand. The romantic grunginess feels like a deeply personal journey, with emotional guitar riffs contributing to a sense of being lost and lonely, but with the slightest hint of direction.
5/5
just perfect
Parachutes, they could never make me hate you
SOS- I’m drowning in nostalgia.
Beautiful. Hating on Chris Martin or Coldplay is a tired take
An obvious 5 star classic. Probably the best thing I ever bought at Borders Books
I completely loved it, every song, why has it been so long since I have listened to it.
I could lie and jump on the rather pompous & unfair Coldplay haters bandwagon and say "pa! Coldplay...dishwater & dull. But I won't, I'll be honest...I love this album, from the day it was released, every track. Admittedly, all of their stuff since their 2nd album A Rush a Blood to the Head (equally as good as Parachutes) has passed me by, gone right off my radar as they've evolved into a HUGE global, successfully commercial Pop band (almost brand!), fit for a radio station I'd never listen to. However this album is excellent, because it's not commercial, still sounds raw, edgy even, a different sound and feel for the year 2000 (sh*t the bed this album is 25 years old...I have T-Shirts older!!) If you are a Coldplay hater, just give this album the benefit of doubt, have a listen, forget that it's Coldplay and think of them as just a new band who are about to break big. I've recently thought that one day, I'll look back at Fontaines DC in a similar manner.
I don't understand Why people rant About the singer Chris As if he's made of piss This is a great debut Great songs to and fro back in 2000 and astute Listening to music, going upstairs, if you know, you know.
A solid, often times lovely, album.
Will never tire of this album by Coldplay. So quintessential
Early Coldplay slaps.
no slips, really good, coldplays only good album
Liked this a lot more than I expected. I associate Coldplay with boring but lots of really good songs.
Man, this album rules. Coldplay have been around for so long, I sometimes forget they began here. And finally, some really interesting brit rock. Complex, poppy, and full of heart. Chris Martin has an amazing voice and great breath control. He knows when to hold back and when to go for it. I started to list all the great songs on here, and I realized I was just typing out the tracklist. I didn't realize how much I liked this album. Yellow is still an incredibly beautiful song 25 years later.
It's really an excellent 42 minutes of music. I don't blame Coldplay for wanting to conquer the world, but for my taste this album makes me wonder what they could've been if they'd been fulfilled making great simple music. I guess look at the Kings of Convenience as an alternate timeline for Coldplay following Parachutes. But it's a pretty timeless album for me.
These guys get a lot of shit but they were really good all through the aughts. Parachutes, Rush of Blood and Viva La Vida are all bonerfied classics. I have heard this countless times over the last 25 years and was still a giddy at getting to hear it again today. Most of this album is fairly restrained n’ sparse considering the stadium bombast they would clumsily go for later on. Standouts: “Don’t Panic”, “Sparks”, “Yellow”
There is not a single song in this album I think isn't great. Sparks and yellow - prime Coldplay too
Og Coldplay before they sold out, easy 5 stars. Top three songs 1. Don’t panic, 2. Yellow, 3. Sparks
I've got a soft spot for this album. Given when it came out and it's themes it's surprising I don't love it more, but how could I? "If you want me to change, I'll change for you, and I want you to know, that you'll always get your way". If Chris Martin doesn't sound like a young married man in love I don't know what does. Married and young in the year 2000 sounds very much like me. I heard yellow on the radio on the way to the mall, got there and bought the album at Sam Goody. I had to hear this song again, and every other song these guys had made. I called home to my new bride and told her not to worry, my military training would be done soon. It was. I flew home to see my wife home over Thanksgiving and remember vividly playing Spies (track 3) and being cuddled and warm under blankets. "Feeling so bad, cause you know, spies hide out in every corner". The album shines by its midsection, yellow was probably the catchiest and very likely might be the catchiest thing ever. They literally had no idea what they were doing by connecting so many people with simple lyrics and charming melodies. With grunge just about out of the picture and pop music still not done recovering this music made it okay to enjoy things everyone likes again. I didn't and still don't care how main stream it is. People like this, and we should, mostly because it's great. Google tells us the band was inspired by U2, REM and the Beatles. Yeah, but what about the Beach Boys? The album literally defined coming of age for me. For that reason it's a five star for me.
I was very much looking forward to listening to this; it was such an awesome album when it first came out and I can remember listening to it over and over and over again. Nothing can take away from this being a very strong debut album, and for a few years and a couple of albums, I was a massive fan. But then Mylo Xyloto happened, and it was as if Chris Martin had found a single glitter cannon and thought, “Yes. This is who we are now.” Don't get me wrong, I really like some of their music, but it's different now and most of the time, way too optimistic and wrapped up in earnest douchebaggery. The rainbow wristbands are tedious and all that neon gives me a headache. Came back for a revisit. I LOVE this album and would like it on my 1001 list!
This is still my favorite Coldplay album, from a time when we thought they were going to be another Brit-Rock band like Travis or maybe more quirky like Radiohead. The band turned into a pop hits machine, but this album still feels "pure," a bit dark, a bit odd in the best ways. "Yellow" is just such a beautiful mellon collie song.
Chands I haven’t read your review yet, but this is classsss dude. Nice balance between simple melodies and song structures with intricate instrumentation. Captures nostalgia super well. 4.5
Shiver is one of my all time favourite songs, will never not love this album!!! I think this is the best Coldplay album, unbelievably good
Easily their best stuff (scalding hot take 🥵🥵🥵)
Era defining and will not be convinced otherwise
Sorry but this is the best Coldplay album ever written. Was I emotionally prepared to listen to this on a Thursday morning on my way to work? No. Did I cry on the bus? Yes. Always reminds me of staying up through a 13 hour flight from Aus to SA as a 13 year old and deliriously listening to this album and attaching way too much meaning in proportion to the things I was going through at the time. Under appreciated fav is Shiver which has randomly become one of my all time favourite songs over the past year.
I will seldom not be in the mood to listen to this album
Peak Coldplay
Parachutes, Coldplay’s debut album, is a deeply emotional and timeless masterpiece. With its intimate, melodic, and stripped-down quality, it captures raw emotion and showcases beautifully simple songwriting. Despite minor imperfections, it solidified the band’s reputation as one of the most resonant acts of the 2000s, leaving a lasting impression with its heartfelt and moving tracks At its core, the album’s standout feature is its genuine emotional resonance, driven by Chris Martin’s soft yet powerful vocals. His delivery carries a raw vulnerability, particularly on tracks like Yellow and Trouble, making the lyrics deeply relatable and impactful. The instrumentation is a masterclass in understated beauty. Acoustic guitar-driven melodies, paired with subtle piano and atmospheric layers, create a warm, intimate soundscape. Coldplay avoids overcomplication, focusing instead on letting the melodies shine. Songs like Don’t Panic and Shiver exemplify this approach, blending lush arrangements with a restrained, unpretentious style. Ken Nelson’s production plays a key role in the album’s success. The clean and crisp sound allows every element of the band’s performance to breathe, creating a mix where each nuance is clearly audible—from gentle guitar strums to the atmospheric touches that enrich tracks like Sparks. This meticulous production enhances the album’s intimate and personal feel, as though it was crafted just for the listener. Lyrically, Parachutes explores themes of love, loss, and longing with a poetic yet simple approach. The lyrics, while not overly complex, carry a universal appeal through their introspective tone. Lines like “I’ll be ‘round, I’ll be loving you always” from Sparks encapsulate the album’s emotional accessibility, connecting deeply with the listener on a personal level. Parachutes shines with Martin’s emotive vocals, beautiful instrumentation, and impeccable production, making its minor flaws easily forgivable. Its genuine and soothing quality makes it a timeless go-to album, earning a strong 4.7/5 and showcasing why Coldplay became so beloved
имба.
favorite one yet. fire.
Own
Pretty good , mellow and got me through a rough day at work
FUCKING INCREDIBLE
classic
Early Coldplay is actually so good. I don't care if it's pop; it makes me feel something.
First that I’m already versed in. Amazing album
Underbart
Attractive, pleasant to listen record, but a bit too mellow. I knew this album and I couldn't get into its vibe again until second listen. I wish the first part didn't feel like the album was ending already for ten minutes. It feels a bit like disjointed sad songs, but, I've gotta give it to Coldplay, they've sold the vibe with all its problems. Wish it was a bit different, it's not my favourite, but I feel like I cannot deny it a 5/5.
No private Spotify session used. I loved since it came out. I don't know if Coldplay got more poppy since then or I am became less poppy but not a fan of their newer stuff. But I will always love this album.
One of my favourite albums so was easy to give 5 stars
Phenomenal album.
Best Coldplay album. Excellent.
I hate myself for liking Coldplay
Such a great album from the lyrics to instruments. It’s amazing and so good. I’ve heard it before several times and it ages like a fine wine
I don’t get why everyone hates on Coldplay. I loved them in middle school and still do (up through Mylo Xyloto). This album is so smooth and beautiful. The guitar is simple and clean but fits so well. Chris Martin’s voice is so great. All parts fit together so well, they aren’t trying to do too much and they sound so good doing it.
solid album. love the blend of piano, guitar runs, and different time signatures. lyrics are solid. opening track of "Don't Panic" great, but "Trouble" is excellent & one of my favorite.
So much beauty in one album. Our introduction to Coldplay, 'Don't Panic', is a very strong start for their career, and 'Shiver' takes it one step further. 'Spies' lost me a little, but my interest was piqued with 'Sparks', one of the saddest and most beautiful songs I have ever heard. I honestly felt like crying listening to it. 'Yellow' is, of course, Coldplay's crowning achievement in their career, and it elevates this album to another level. From there, the songs started to blend together and sound the same, but the first half was so strong that it's redeeming.
What a debut album. Say what you want about the later stuff but this is absolutely brilliant. Unfortunately I think they peaked here… Zero skip tracks on this one. Full marks.
Great stuff start to finish, every track stands on its own.
One of the favorites in our house
Incredible.
Early Coldplay is fucking nuts. This album is goddamn beautiful. I fucking LOVE this!! Great songwriting and great guitar playing!!!
Such a beautiful album with some big hits!! Perfect music to chill out to. We had this album at home, I can remember so clearly listening to this on my little green cd player. Those were the days 🥹 Usually debut albums aren't as good as a bands later stuff, but they had Yellow on theirs 💛 A song that has stood the test of time. I can still remember the music video vividly! Coldplay were one of my bucket list bands and I finally got to see them last year. People can shit on them all they want but hands down they put on one of the best concerts I've ever been to. And what they're doing to reduce emissions on tour is incredible Love everything about this album, I will defend it always! 5 ⭐️
Uno de mis discos favoritos de la vida.
One of my all time favourites. Love to play this album slightly too loud. I feel it's quite intense in a good way
What can I say, I'm a sucker for some classic Coldplay.
Fav song: Sparks I listened to Coldplay properly for the first time this year (funnily enough, this album). I was expecting it to be bad because of all the stereotypes and the crazy pop collabs - but this album is amazing. Beautiful from start to finish with great production to boot. I WISH I could have been in the room listening to the end of “Trouble” for the first time. Wow. As for people who reject this album immediately on the principle that it’s Coldplay - I’m convinced society has this weird perception that listening to Coldplay is both uncool and unmanly, so there’s a lot of insecure people coming out of the woodwork to prove how cool and manly they are lol. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of reasons to hate Coldplay, but rejecting THIS album because “it’s Coldplay” is just insane to me. I don’t even like Coldplay. But this album is wonderful.
Good
Haters gonna hate.
Some of Coldplays absolute best arrangement. Makes beautiful use of acoustic and introspective lyricism.
A beautiful surprise it was, I never understood why so many people liked Coldplay so much, it was even difficult for mt to get the comotion they caused last year on the tours by Brazil and Argentina, I think I have never given them a proper chance. This album introduced more elaborated melodies and sensitive lyrics. Thank you.
Amazing album, love Yellow and Sparks!
Is this a 5 star album on it's own? Probably not. Is it a 5 star album because it was pivotal in my upbringing? Absolutely.
Classic. Sad and a bit soulful
Very interesting composition. Liked how every song felt different and unpredictable. Made me also listen to Jeff Buckley.
really beautiful
The hot streak of great albums continue. Always been a fan of Coldplay's first 4 albums. The first two in particular are great.
Love this album.
01) Don't Panic - 10,0 02) Shiver - 10,0 03) Spies - 10,0 04) Sparks - 10,0 05) Yellow - 10,0 06) Trouble - 10,0 07) Parachutes - 10,0 08) High Speed - 10,0 09) We Never Change - 10,0 10) Everything's Not Lost - 10,0 TOTAL: 10,0 (100/100) Current ranking: 4/347 Here's another five star album! Coldplay's first four albums are among my favorite albums of all time and I really liked that band. After that they went completely into pop, which is not really to my taste, but it has to be acknowledged that they are good at it too ("A Sky Full Of Stars" or "Paradise" are great live!). Given that I was at their concert two months ago, I can confirm that "Yellow" is still a banger! And I can confirm that listening to them live has rediscovered my long-lost love for this band.
i know this is crazy but
In what is deffinitively their masterpiece a flawless album with no down notes I can point at. Perfect execution and I dont even like this band amd feel they are overrated. This was their first big and last finest moment. Happy it exists
Iconic
We seem to have a collective amnesia about the quality of Coldplay as a band in the early days, in large part due to Chris Martin's antics as well as their deterioration into musical dust as the years have passed. Make no mistake -- Parachutes, and then A Rush Of Blood To The Head (which this review is not at all about) remain one of the greatest 1-2 punches to start a musical career in contemporary musical history. With timeless songs as Yellow, Shiver, Trouble, and Sparks, Parachutes (which this review is completely about) is an album that almost is unfairly lumped in with everything the band did post-X&Y for no other reason other than the fact that they were weirdly made by the same collection of people. When Coldplay is dead and gone, and we have removed the context that exists around them and their career, this album will hopefully live on as a great piece of work.
Calm and beautiful
Okay so it’s Coldplay and that’s going to stir up a lot of opinions. Personally I think their first two albums are fantastic, and everything else can be forgotten
Subestime 100% a coldplay
high quality vintage coldplay
Unique, and so talented - love it
Sounds like high school. Miss it
Great album
If you ignore the ego that they become, it's a great album.
Eines der besten von Coldplay
I love this album, have done since it came out
You know what? This is really good. Definitely bedwetters, but really good
Already very familiar with this album and have loved it since it came out.
Lovely. 4.5
Some of my favorites are on this album. The album flows pretty well, although Yellow is definitely more upbeat compared to the rest of the songs l.
Beautiful. Listened to it since i was a kid, so instant classic.
Such a great album. Say what you will about Coldplay, this album is fantastic. Reminds me of high school.
I traveled back to the year 2000 and listened to Coldplay’s debut album for the first time. I’ll admit, I was dreading it. “Yellow” was one of the most overplayed songs of my childhood and Coldplay was inescapable. But I found the album solid and enjoyable, with a seamless flow. That said, Coldplay’s other music is basically as melodramatic and self-serious as “Yellow” is. I don’t think I would return to this album unless I wanted to wallow in self-pity. I enjoyed reading a bit of background about the band, and how the use of the word “yellow” is basically random and meaningless—the band was hoping to find another word to fit, but none did. I enjoyed the last song, and I love a good hidden track.
5/5, feeling generous. Great debut album, yellow is an all time classic.
I mean. Does it get any better?
Fantastic debut album by Coldplay. Picking up the alternative britpop sound from Radiohead I love the melancholic and lush sound. They’d go to bigger things but intimate and sensitive Coldplay from the first 2-3 albums are their best.
I just adore this album
A hill I will die on is that early Coldplay is superb! Although they have been shit since 2005. Simpsons: yes
Oh Coldplay oh Coldplay, make albums like this again. I expected to give this 4 stars, as I like it but have always put it behind A Rush Of Blood To The Head in terms of elite Coldplay albums. Even if it’s not quite as good as the follow up, it’s still a masterpiece. I’m all for bands expanding their sound and reinventing themselves (see Radiohead for the best at this), but Coldplay has been reversing in quality for the better part of two decades now in my opinion. Their debut is incredible: Yellow, Trouble, Sparks, Shiver, and Don’t Panic are all incredible songs, and every track is at least “good”. Chris Martin is at his lyrical best here, and his vocals are fantastic and emotional. The band sounds as good as they ever will expect on AROBTTH.
- anyone who says coldplay doesn’t make good music can kiss my ass just say you’re too good for mainstream music
I always thought Coldplay was kind of boring, but I really really enjoyed this album! I was very pleasantly surprised. This may have turned me into a Coldplay fan somehow???
Timeless tunes.
Loved Coldplay as a kid and it's even better now. 10/10
If you ignore the fact that Chris Martin married a woman who sold scented candles with the smell of her own vagina, and betale the second coming of Bono, this record consist of excellent pop songs. Probably one of the best debuts in the early 2000s.
“People like Coldplay and voted for the nazis. You can’t trust people, Jeremy.” — In all seriousness, the first two Coldplay albums are some of my favourite albums of all time. Their music has been on a steady decline ever since, and frustration with their more commercial recent stuff is completely justified when you know the calibre of music they CAN produce but choose not to. But that doesn’t take away from those first two albums. Parachutes and A Rush of Blood to the Head are exceptional. Parachutes is melancholy, dream-like, with an almost aching beauty. Timeless, too - and feels like it is aging very well. I love this album. Favourite track: Trouble
Was für ein tolles Album. Man kann jedes Lied davon hören.
This album is a wave of nostalgia. Just gorgeous falsettos and a vibe that is both chill, moving, but simple. I miss old Coldplay.
fucking fire
Awesome chill vibes throughout. Aged very well and a great leading indicator for them blowing up
This is probably my favorite album by Coldplay.
This is a great album. There is not one song on here you need to track past. These guys are also phenomenal live. All these people that throw around all this hate for Coldplay have fragile egos, and a small joke in 40 Year Old Virgin has skewed their perception of a great band. Also, all this they wish they were Radiohead bullshit, or Radiohead ripoff is ridiculous. Is there Radiohead influence? Of course, but this is not Radiohead, and they are not trying to be them. I fucking LOVE Radiohead, but I also really enjoy Coldplay. 5/5 album
Хороший альбом. Крепкие песни, но не для меня. Отдельно упомяну Yellow. Песня даёт чувство приятной грусти.
Parachutes is the debut studio album by Coldplay, originally released in 2000. This may be the perfect pop album. I think we're at the point in time where we can admit that Coldplay is good. Sure, they get tons of airplay, but those songs are still absolute bangers. I was actually surprised at how cohesive this album is. Every single song slaps. Not to mention the production value on here. Crisp, but not overbearingly so. Just right. A lot of other users commented about their similarity to Radiohead, and I guess I can see it a little bit. They're like a more digestible Radiohead. But I also think Coldplay has their own distinct sound, especially on this record. So yeah, I like Coldplay, shoot me.
I loved this at first listen and it still holds up, all these years later
Otros discos enormes de este 2000: PJ HARVEY - Stories from the city, stories from the sea, YO LA TENGO - And then nothing turned itself inside-out, THE JAYHAWKS - Smile, EELS - Daisies of the galaxy, THE WATERBOYS - A rock in the weary land, ELLIOTT SMITH - Figure 8, RADIOHEAD-Kid A , COLDPLAY-Parachutes, U2-All that you can't leave behind, MADONNA-Music , QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE-Rated R , Dakota Suite- Signal Hill, Lambchop- Nixon, David Gray- White Ladder, Mojave 3- Excuses for travellers, Piano Magic -Artists´ Rifles, D'Angelo- Voodoo, Primal Scream- XTRMNTR, Goldfrapp- Felt Mountain, Death Cab for Cutie- We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes, Doves- Lost Souls, Black Box Recorder- The facts of life, Calexico- Hot Rail, Ágætis Byrjun (Sigu Ros), The Sophtware Slump (Grandaddy), The Marshall Mathers (Eminem), Skantonia (Outkast), Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven (Godspeed you black emperor!), Since i left you (The Avalanches), The Noise Made by People (Broadcast), The great eastern (The delgados), The Friends of Rachel Worth (The Go-Betweens), Tourist (St. Germain), Community Music (Asian Dub Foundation), Chore of Enchantment (Giant Sand) y otro monumento en forma de triple álbum como es 69 lovesongs (The magnetic fields).
I mean come on. One of my all time favorite albums! Early Coldplay is extremely good. Fav Songs: Shiver, Sparks, Yellow, & Trouble.
Never gave Coldplay the time of day before, and remember early Coldplay as depressing and mushy - but actually this one was great all the way through. Pleasantly surprised.
Nice
An amazing album. That really is all that needs to be said.
One of my favs
I love this album! Alongside ‘OK Computer’, ‘Jagged Little Pill’, ‘(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?’ and the music of Abba and Rina Sawayama, this was one album that ‘got’ me into popular music. The disjunction between the very sad but sweet musical arrangement and the uplifting lyrics that anyone can relate to is fantastic. As are both the music and lyrics themselves! 10/10. Fabulous.
The original and best before they disappeared up their melodic stadium pop arses.
Although Coldplay are typically written off as a modern, sell out, basic pop band, their first 3 or 4 albums were really quite brilliant. Parachutes in my opinion, is the best. The iconic Yellow is here as well as some other wonderful tracks like Trouble which was a single, Everything's Not Lost which despite being a slower and mellow track, is very uplifting, and my persnal favourites, Shiver and Sparks. The general atmosphere of the record is pretty moody despite some of the more uplifting and positive outlooks and messages delivered. While this has the Radiohead alt rock blueprint just before Kid A became a nuclear explosion in the Radiohead universe, it's not a bad blueprint to use and I think they pull off the energy and the atmosphere very well. For people who wish to overlook Coldplay overall, I suggest you come to this album with an open mind and see how you feel.
heard of them but don't remember any tunes.
what a chef d'oeuvre
Peak Coldplay. It was all down hill from here.
A true masterpiece of an album. Strikes a perfect balance between rock, pop, and soft ballad that really looks like lightning in a bottle with 20 years of hindsight. The only thing disappointing about this album is that Coldplay hasn't managed to recapture what made their sound so great since. A must listen
A pure gem, so tender and intimate. I just love it.
there’s one or two skips for me, but otherwise a deeply heartfelt, perfect album
I just can’t fault this album. Perfection. It’s always been a go to album when I’m in need of a mellow listen.
I know Coldplay get a lot of bad press for being a beige band, but this was made before any expectation of popularity or future greatness. I bought this when hearing the singles on the radio which I really liked. Their sound reminded me of a mellow time of the early 90's, like a very watered down and commercial Verve/ Slowdive etc. It it's a very good debut album and I'm not embarrassed to say this. Great guitars, melodies and vibe. Chris Martin even makes a piano a great addition to a rock band. It's a 5 star record.
Easy to listen to. 5/5
Sehr angenehm, gute Songs. 4 oder 5 Punkte, also 9 von 10 für mich.
One of those few albums where I actually think every song is good. Probably biased though, as it feels like I've listened to this a hundred times over the years, and it holds a special place for me. Those early Coldplay albums before it got too commercial and all over the place really is something. Sure, it got some cheesy pop lyrics, but I also feel like they've got their own unique sound with a bit of that melancholic vibe. And I really like Chris Martin's singing with the falsettos, it's got something special to it. 5 stars without a doubt, one of my favourite albums.
The first band I liked on my own after gaining consciousness at like 9 years old. They’re getting nothing but 5’s from me, always 😤
Love me some Coldplay...
I really like Coldplay, as is required of everyone who has lived in the british isles. Viva La Vida is their only album that I've listened to front-to-back prior to this, and that was clearly a mistake. This album was great and I liked every song. It's a more stripped down version of the Coldplay of recent years, no electronic effects or explosive crescendos, and I like that more. I read someone on reddit refer to this era of Coldplay as 'an easier to swallow version of radiohead'. Whether that's the case or not, I'm on board. I'll listen to this album more often. God save the queen (sorry charles). 9/10 9/10
This just continues to cement my affection for Coldplay. Really love this.
Having just let the Coldplay bus pass on by, I am glad that there has been exposure here. It's good stuff.
Sweet and pretty, warm and floaty. This burrowed itself right into my heart today.
When I first heard “Yellow” I ran out and got this album. I loved its strong emotional underpinnings - these songs are quite beautiful. This is an incredible debut and now reading a little background material it’s all the more special. Amazing that so many of these songs are still central to Coldplay’s live performances. A great debut that has lost none of its luster to time.
Phenomenal debut album. Every one of the haters listened to it and loved it just like everybody else when it came out.
One of the first alternative rock bands I admired, I knew this album by heart - ah to be young again
Now we talking! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Coldpay! Don't know if I've given this album an honest listen all the way through though. Oh shit, the first song is the one from Garden State. Don't Panic. What a great soundtrack that is. 5 stars.
Great album
Great first album with classics when I started dating my now wife…. Everything’s Not Lost was a song I discovered
An instant 5 as soon as I saw the cover. One of the greatest debut albums in my opinion and the first of an amazing triple set of albums. They went off the boil a bit after X&Y for me but the first three are one of the strongest sets of albums ever. First became aware of this album and Coldplay early one morning. My clock radio woke me to the Yellow riff. The song was half way through and I never caught the name of the song or band. I spent the next few days listening out for the song with that riff, which is something of an earworm, constantly in my head. Once found I immediately bought the album CD and played it constantly. Coldplay are very much ridiculed by some nowerdays which is a shame but as they are headlining Glastonbury again this year (2024) it proves what a crowd puller they are and loved by the majority. I saw them live during the X&Y tour (a travesty that X&Y isn’t on this list at time of writing as that is in my top 5) and they played many songs from this album and every one was a crowd pleaser. For me an album always at hand to play and in my favourite playlist. 5/5 22/4/24
I was shocked to see how divisive Coldplay were/are to some. Some people seem to vehemently hate the band (or at least Chris Martin). I enjoy Coldplay. I like the music and what a debut this was.
Man, I gotta admit that everytime I hear Yellow starts playing I have goosebumps.
("from the moment I wake to the moment I sleep, I'll be there by your side. Just you try and stop me, I'll be waiting in the line just to see if you care"). existe um destempero adolescente envolvendo tudo que, nesse caso, milita em favor do Coldplay e explica o motivo de 20 anos depois ainda ter a mesma marca, a mesma relevância popular e também ser piada por esses mesmos motivos
SO GOOD
Once upon a time I was one of the tasteless melts who hated Coldplay. Those days are now gone. This album is class, and anyone who says otherwise doesn’t know what they’re talking about.
Ethereal Masterpiece. Formative album for me, very nostalgic but still holds up.
One of the top (and only) albums I listened to growing up. A classic easy listen that everyone loves to make fun of
A perfect pop-rock record. Not overly sung, not overly synthesized, meaningful lyrics. Well played.
Oh fuck yeh. Coldplay at their purest and occasionally best. They’re a different band now but that doesn’t take away from this, masterpiece. People like to say they’re imitating Radiohead but every band is like others and I don’t think this is close enough. Deal with it!!!
A must stop in the highway of music. The album that made them what they are and that will forever be in any shelf of a music lover.
Back when Coldplay was actually decent.
Good
I like this album, some of Coldplays best songs... quite melancholic... Definitely would listen to it again, even seek it out, so therefore 5 stars...
Excelent, one of my best Coldplay albums
Coldplay was knocking out indie bangers before selling out for pop success.
a band that was very good, but not very cool - some very good songs on here and were always performed better than you thought they would
Honestly this entire album reminds me of my mother, she loves Coldplay, and I remember all of these songs fondly as she would sing them random. 5 stars for nostalgia, and another 5 because it's just damn good music.
Brilliant album. I always like debut albums. It takes 20 years to make a first album. You only have 1 or 2 for the second. And the first usually made in a budget. Parachutes has a soul. A youthful soul. An unpolished gem. Favourite songs: high speed, don’t shiver, sparks
Easy to listen. Mellow. Really love this. Chris Martin has such a great voice.
I really like Coldpyay's first album. Its British sound of an old concert hall with the airy guitar of Jonny Buckland and the magic and melancholic vocals of Chris Martin... I love this slightly overdriven rock'n'roll phase of their career with an analog, almost acoustic sound.
An excellent alternative rock album. The songs are dreamy, comforting and engaging. You can hear sounds and and themes that the band would develop further in their careers. This album holds up well, as it would easily fit into the indie rock space today.
Hard to separate nostalgia from a fresh listen. Fantastic album that hits great emotional notes.
A bit too Kuschelrock but definitely a masterpiece of Pop.
Lots of Coldplay tunes in my favorites list. A handful of those on this album, and the rest were fun to listen to as well. Well-produced album.
Classic
love it!
I feel like this one has been overplayed, but it's classic for a reason.
Is Coldplay the band people always make fun of? I can't remember but I like this album and would definitely listen again.
Thank you, Garden State! Some great songs. I don't understand all of the hate.
Great album. Early Coldplay is just so good. Yellow was basically the soundtrack to my freshman year of college. 5/5
Omg, I’m torn. Because it’s Coldplay. I had this back in the day when they were the next big indie thing. I have to say it sounds better than I remembered. But is it really a 5? I would say 4.5 but that’s not a thing. What can you do?
Basic but good
Had mostly listened to Clocks but this was phenomenal.
Aside from being near perfect and one of my favorite albums ever, this holds an extra special place in my heart because I (informally) dedicated Sparks to my first love. Thanks Geophph <3
Love, love, love this album!
Early morning listening to album, has a coffee house type vibe.
I think it’s the best album we’ve heard so far. It takes you to a place. For me that placd is Andy’s bedroom when he’s 13 years old staring at the ceiling blasting this
Tandon Scale Rating: 5 Standouts: Don’t Panic, Sparks, Yellow, Trouble Foot Notes: 1 I don’t care Coldplay is my all time number 1 2 this was at their very best Would I Listen Again: favorite album ever Album Cover Rating: (1-5) 3.5 Album Name Rating: (1-5) 2
Absolutely love this album! Took me back to my first year of high school. I remember being obsessed with Coldplay. Still love them even though most of their music now is a little more on the upbeat less-melancholy side now. Ha. Lots of good memories with this album.
I've never listened to this album beginning to end, but compared to this new stuff, it's far more relatable and less maximalist than their later works. Closer to soft rock with elements of shoegaze and grunge.
From a time when they focused on music
So schön und gut: Musikalisch, technisch, top produziert
Brilliant album. Beautiful music, beautiful vocals, beautiful lyrics. It is nearly 25 years old, and it does not sound dated in the least little bit. This album is a true, timeless masterpiece.
Beautiful. Sad. I love his voice
5/5, one of my favorite bands
Again, owned it on CD. A couple of favorites here. Let’s give it a spin. Great album. Sounds even better on good headphones. Want it on vinyl now.
It’s fucking great, haters gonna hate.
favorite album of all time - how can anything compete with the perfection that is parachutes
Great album, loved it.
it's just a gorgeous album and I won't take any slander
I love Coldplay now
Somehow I had always registered Coldplay in my head as a "boring" band. Yes, the songs are soft and perhaps that's what I didn't like about them when I was a metalhead in my teenage years. But revisiting this as an adult, it just resonates with me so much more. Obviously I had heard Yellow before, but it wasn't until now that I really listened to it closely and fully appreciated it. Coldplay has that dreamy, ethereal quality about them that puts me in a certain pensive mood. I genuinely enjoyed every song on this album. I didn't find myself checking to see how many songs I had left, which is a sign that I didn't want it to end.
Incredible. Not a single bad song on the album. If Coldplay had continued to make music in the style of Parachutes, A Rush of Blood to the Head and X&Y in the emerging ‘post-britpop’ style they would be one of my favourite bands. Unfortunately, they kind of sold out.
Classic
Always an amazing album.would Call it a modern Classic of Alternative / Rock
its good
jesus. one of the best bands and best albums ever. no more to say.
Don't Panic- 5/5 Shiver- 4.3/5 Spies- 4.7/5 Sparks- 5/5 Yellow- 5/5 Trouble- 4.4/5 Parachutes- 4.5/5 High Speed- 4.7/5 We Never Change- 5/5 Everything's Not Lost- 5/5 Total- 4.8/5
Alright, actually
I know they don't have a lot of credibility these days, but I love this album.
I remember coldplay was one of those bands that got a lot of trash on the internet in the late 2010's. Im excited to give this band a genuine listen. lol this album is amazing. ive been sleep. I dont think anyone in their right mind can say this is bad. This is perfect.
Disco ótimo do Coldplay. Pra quem é fã da banda, prato cheio.
This is a five for me just because I’ve grown up listening to Coldplay and my parents literally had dvds 📀 of theirs albums to play in the car. The songs are angelic and so solid to listen to at anytime, at least for me.
Er is geen album wat beter bij een maandagochtend past dan dit. Een dijk van een (debuut)album. Geweldige productie, mooie nummers, fijne lengte. Het klinkt alsof het gister uit gebracht had kunnen worden. Zonder twijfel 5 sterren.
Loved this a lot
Another band that's deeply unfashionable (like U2 for instance). I remember quite liking them at the time and on a relisten it's pretty decent early Millenium rock. I know history has been unkind since then and Chris Martin wants to hug the world and save us but that shouldn't detract from some great tunes. I like this.
God, what an album. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this again after many years. 5/5.
If I’m ever a rock star, I’m going to release my debut album in the first year of a decade, so people can look back and say that my album defined the sound of that decade. In my dreams, anyway. This is a really, really good album. I only knew the hits and didn’t know what I was missing. Wish I’d known.
Coldplay Classic - sounds better than I would have thought
Can we have this Coldplay back? Respect to Chris and co, for living their best life the last 25 years, but… it’s like invasion of the body snatchers over here! What happened to these guys? This is so self-evidently *great.* I’ve listened a billion times already, so it’s an old friend. A bit of Radiohead’s head, so to speak, but a softer heart. It’s crazy that this is a debut. Just a really great band that I would see live any day. Terrific. 5/5
a 5 star album
A favorite. Five stars forever. Hits me right in that sweet spot.
Such a good album.
A great album. It has such a chill sound. I knew quite a few of the songs
Beautiful melodies. Going against the grain, Coldplay reveal themselves as the band to closely follow.
Cozy album.
Loved
I like Coldplay. 5/5
5 star classic. I really only listen to their first three albums. This is their best in my opinion. To me I hear a combination of Beatles, Pink Floyd and U2. Outstanding song writing, Brit Pop at it's finest.
Their best album.
The whole album is warm and relaxed both in sound and lyrics. Perfect for autumn listening.
10/10
Coldplay is one of those bands, wether you ask your neighbor or that cousin you never really talk to, they have a favorite Coldplay song. Always.
Gran gran album. Definitivamente mi favorito de Coldplay. Logran crear un sonido muy distintivo pero a la vez reconocible en varios artistas de esa epoca de ese genero. No tan complejo lo cual lo hace bello.
Very nice album, refreshing listen after the older stuff throughout the week. There's also a clear difference between Coldplay then and now. Even though I like their newer upbeat stuff, they absolutely nail the sad and dreary.
Maybe one of the most perfect albums ever made. I used to listen to Coldplay CDs in the car with my dad, so much that I keep expecting to hear skips at certain places where the CDs were scratched from use. Melancholy, wistfulness, an genuine feeling of wanting to be better than the worst parts of ourselves. I love this album so much. The songs parachutes and life is for living are just perfect. 1000/10
melancholy if i’ve ever heard it
No words, 5*
Beautiful
Ugh, I had forgotten just how fucking good Coldplay used to be. When one of the weakest tracks of your debut is 'Yellow', you're doing something right. Even if you're just re-selling The Bends in a nice pop-wrap. Also, and I can't explain this, but Parachutes sounds exactly like the cover art.
If you decide to make fun of Coldplay, please make sure it’s of the band post-Viva La Vida. Parachutes is an almost unbelievable debut album with a sound so developed most groups never achieve anything like it. It helped define the 00’s as a whole, there’s no way around it.
Is a classic, im a fan of coldplay, this bring me memories.
Cuando me fui a vivir solo a los 17 lo gasté al extremo. Qué lástima que Coldplay cambió tanto.
Fantastic album. Super chill.
This is my girlfriend's most favorite album ever, and even so, It was released on my birthday. IMO, Parachutes is perhaps the best conclusion for Britpop era & gave the British Pop Rock the best starting point for the new century. Fav Track: Trouble
Wow - what a great band Coldplay used to be…
Before listening: Love love love this album, it was on regular rotation when I was a tyke, and I only revisited it recently. Expertly crafted with some truly phenomenal moments. I want to give it 4 stars, but Yellow is one of the best songs ever recorded and ending with 'Everything's Not Lost' is such a great payoff it's a 5 from me. The guitars throughout are awesome, I just have nothing bad to say about it!
