Reviews (page 2 of 14)
Low 3. I was in a very anxious and fast mindset today, so I was definitely not in the right energy to receive this album. That said, this was much slower than what I expected, and not particularly captivated.
I somehow managed to dodge coldplay for this long so I don't really have a say on the whole hate going on. The song yellow is so mediocre though why is that their most listened song. (my rating is rather 3.5 stars but we don't have that sigh)
I think this is a fine album, I wouldn’t say there’s multiple hits or that it is emotional inducing, but yellow is a classic and I’d listen to it on a loop while working, overall a 3/5 album for me
I liked this record when it came out…yellow is a great song. But it’s also a little tired.
Pretty good
If you can somehow forcefully erase all Coldplay from your memory and decontextualize it, it's a pretty decent album. Inoffensive and entertaining.
Coldplay seems to have made an entire album filled with that one track I tend to skip on other, better, albums. The music is fine, it’s straight forward soft rock. I cannot stand the lead singers vocals though and it just adds to the low energy milquetoast sound. What they do isn’t for me but they do it well at least. I’ll never put this on by choice. 2/5
I would have rated it higher, but saturation coverage at the time of release gave me Coldplay fatigue!
I don't really have a problem with Coldplay, perfectly acceptable music to be playing in a grocery store or elevator
That was not good but it was significantly better than Mariah Carey’s bullshit.
There might be greatness here, but not for me.
Coldplay... they really leave me cold. This album is as bland and insipid as they can be. It doesn't get any better, and the songs are a mixture of ballads and some more upbeat songs that I have not ended up liking at all. There is some nice stuff in here, although, but it just consists of good ideas of which its execution and delivery have not impressed me the least, so I don't even think I've really liked any song on this record. I just find this band a very popish one, and in a very bad sense. All colourful and stadium-focused, with a personality that is based on cheap emotional tracks. And I don't like any of this philosophy, it's very stripped from the essence of music itself for me. It's not something organic, but rather made very consciously, and trying to push emotions as a tool for selling. I don't know, I can't find interesting this music, it has been very boring for me to listen to this album. And this dynamic of paused songs that are clearly concert-stuff gets me off of a possible more in depth feeling or understanding of the music. It feels that it's made commercial just for the sake of having hymns to sing in front of an audience rather than focusing on making music to connect with the listener. And I lack that close feeling songs that are similar to the ones in this record have.
This album sounds like a proposal/weddingplaylist. Its no bad music, especially "Trouble" is just good. But its a bit too much Kitsch for me (had to put on some high on fire afterwards)
Not very impressed by what appears to be a very popular band. Very bland and monotonal.
"...and it was all beige", and just a bit dull, really... Mournful acoustic guitars and charity advert piano loops are not for me. Heard before ✅️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ❌️ ★★☆☆☆ (4/10) Total reviewed : 281 Already owned : 63 Purchased : 15 To buy : 3 Nope : 200
Radiohead for taylor swift adjacent people which i mean very honestly and nicely though its not for me it is quite good and nice
It's an overly polite record of fair-to-middling quality, saved by Michael Brauer's terrific mix. Earnest, nonthreatening and profoundly accessible, if that's what you want in your rock music. Shudder.
Very bland soft indie rock. Not a single memorable vocal performance or instrumental melody.
Still not a Coldplay convert! A couple of good songs. Point for each
sorry i can't it's boring
I dont like the mood of the songs, gets boring quickly. The guitars and melodies makes it a little bit interesting though.
they want me to listen to Coldplay? its not even the best Coldplay album Chris martins vocals sound whiny but it could just be the sign of the times if you're gonna start listening to a Coldplay album, this isn't the one I would start with
i was raised to be a coldplay hater and i actually didn’t HATE this. however in accordance with my upbringing and beliefs i can’t in good conscience give this higher than a 2
I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to Coldplay.
Dirge oozing through the rose-tinted memory of elegant light naiveté. Somehow less acceptable now that they're all older, wealthy and churning out indie shlte
Sometimes you just have to wet your bed and that’s ok. After posting this, I’ll run a search to see how many other reviews write “Parashits”.
Why does every song sound the same? Sort of a sad, melodic journey. Blech.
I’ve heard this before. I was not a fan of this when it came out, although I thought “Yellow” was pretty ok. I’ll go into this with an open mind and see if my opinion has changed. So my first thought is I can’t figure out if it’s the songs or the production is more lifeless. If I had synesthesia, I would be seeing beige here. It’s offensive in its inoffensiveness. I still think Yellow is ok, and Sparks is not bad. I didn’t remember Yellow being thus lifeless, but I am remembering now I played a show in 2001 with a band who did a cover of it where there was some actual dynamic range to it. So maybe I confused the two. Maybe the other less quiet songs could be improved by a cover band, I don’t know.
ewwwwwwwwwwww
Bland, as bland as blancmange.
So boring and uninspired. It feels like their goal is to make music in a way such that least people are annoyed by it... and that's very annoying
God this is boring. Going from OK computer yesterday to this today was like falling through a kaleidoscope into a bowl of oatmeal. Listened on the way home from work and almost fell asleep at the wheel, but at least that would put an end to it all. There's a couple of moments where it looks like something vaguely interesting is going to happen before it quickly collapses into the same trite bullshit, lyrically and musically. Every song seems to try to prop itself up on about 2-3 somewhat competent ideas repeated ad infinitum. 1.5
It’s fitting to listen to Coldplay’s Parachutes just a week after Muse’s Black Holes and Revelations. Both bands emerged to fill the void left by Radiohead as they moved into new territory in the early 2000s, constantly experimenting and developing their sound (the mark of a truly good band!). Muse took the heavier route, Coldplay the softer one, but both ultimately come across as astonishingly derivative. I’ve long said that Coldplay make music for people who don’t like music. Everything they do feels overtly commercial: anthemic, larger-than-life slop, completely devoid of meaningful content. Their enormous success doesn’t surprise me, though. They fit the mould of mass-appeal, lowest-common-denominator, cookie-cutter music built for massive stadium pop concerts. But their success does make me sad. There is so much incredible music out there, and people settle for this crap. Honestly, if someone tells me they like Coldplay, I instantly think less of them. As for Parachutes itself, I’ve rarely been happier for an album to end. Every track is plagued by dreadful lyrics, an unbearably annoying vocal performance from Chris Martin, and instrumentation that sounds relentlessly derivative of Radiohead songs like “Bulletproof… I Wish I Was” or “High and Dry”, stripped of everything that made those tracks compelling, then regurgitated with zero passion or soul. I will never return to this album, and I’d advise anyone who genuinely loves music to steer well clear of this dud.
A lot of people have told me that the early Coldplay albums are really good... They lied.
Yellow is one of the worst songs of all time and i hope Chris martin is having a horrible day
The love for Coldplay on this site is fucking WILD. This is bland muzak for people who found David Gray a bit too edgy. So lacking in character I can't feel enough feelings to hate it. The argon of the pop world.
I'VE JUST HAD THIS ALBUM. IT IS FUCKING MINGING. PARACHUTES PUNCH LEMONADE. IT IS FUCKING MINGING. SUCK YOUR DAD
Shame it exists.
I'd rather wash my genital area with a wire brush and bleach everyday for a month over listening to this.
Coldplay makes music for wankers. It's like Wish.com Radiohead. Chris Martin is the chief executive wanker. The only time I enjoy Coldplay is when another artist covers them (see: Aimee Mann or Willie Nelson covering The Scientis ... absolute baner). There's just something so inherently drab about every note these guys play that makes even decent music on paper turn to shite as soon as it comes out of them. Standout Tracks: Yellow (and only for nostalgia sake, because it's the first song I ever heard by them and thought, "hey this is cool!" until I heard the rest of their mediocre drivel)
Tried a couple of tracks but feared for my algorithm too much and binned it
Ugh.... Just because something sold by the millions does not mean it is an important album. Robson and Jerome sold millions of albums too, enough said
Sucked when it came out. Sucks in 2024. Boring mono tone songs with overly nasal vocals. Lyrical content is sad and Grey and boring. Every song uses the same structure. Waste of time to listen to.
Big nostalgia bump
It's hard to not think of what this group eventually went on to do, but if you put all that aside and just focus on this record alone, it's just simply a masterclass of a debut. Solid 5 Stars.
It’s a 10. I knew it was great going in. I was hoping it would be fantastic, and I would say it’s exactly that. I’m a total sucker for Chris Martin’s brand of regret-tinged optimism & his vivacious attitude towards love & hope. Yes, it might feel corny to some people, and I won’t dispute that Coldplay, in recent years, has gotten a bit hokier as a band, especially with that regret-tinged optimism being replaced by a sort of bubbly adventurous spirit that feels like a false mask that doesn’t confront the pain that Chris is able to so beautifully croon about on this album. I will not, however, let the perception of Coldplay in 2026 shape my opinion of this album from 2000, as this feels like one of the best debut albums ever put to tape. I already gave a lot of praise to “A Rush of Blood to the Head”, and that did feel like an instant classic when I heard it in full for the first time 901 albums ago. I can’t tell you which one is better, at least not without hearing that one again, but on a first pass here… hoo. The showmanship of that album with its more vivid & layered storytelling, along with its more consistent theming may make for a more potent album experience, but as far as “Parachutes” goes, I find myself impressed by the humanity of it all. There’s a rawness to this album that feels more innately relatable to my ears. Yes, a track like “The Scientist” is beautiful, but it’s designed to be anthemic in nature. These tracks feel like they were born out of lived experience. “We Never Change”, in particular, really struck me as the best track here from the ones I wasn’t already familiar with. At its core, it’s just a man plainly expressing his desires for life & the rules he wants to live by, with a despondence behind it that underlines the track in a defeated, yet hopeful way. I think at the end of the day, we all want what that track asks for. That same ethos applies to something as monstrously huge as “Yellow” – look at the lyrics and how they shine in their own way, but everything they do is done with purpose. It’s just plainly stating his devotion. The difference between both tracks is in the instrumentation – “Yellow” is constantly pushing & driving & bringing the force of his love out, yet “We Never Change” is sort of static by comparison with its acoustic approach. This album is made off of the back of its instrumentals pairing to the energy of each track, and while that should be the ethos for every band to follow, Coldplay just manages to do it in a way that elevates things for me. At the end of the day, you either feel these tracks or you don’t. If you don’t, then you just don’t, and that’s totally fine. Believe me, I get it. I’m just an optimistic fool who can’t help but buy into this stuff. I think Chris Martin's vocals are great, I think the instrumentation is fantastic, and there's not a single skip here. It’s an easy 10 for me, and I'm very glad to have finally heard it in full.
Exceptional debut album full of breezy and somewhat reserved songs with moments of grandeur. No wonder they made it big after this album.
Where it all started. This was one of the last CD’s I bought and based on just one song and it turned out the whole thing was terrific and would see Coldplay just barely getting started as well as still around in 2026. Definitely belongs on this list.
Fantastic debut album
One of my fav albums oat. I have a hard love/hate relationship with Coldplay but their first couple of albums are some of the best soft rock/pop rock ever made. Always a great time to revisit it
Brauch keine Erklärung! Einfach schön
most hopecore album
Coldplays peak
Loved it
I don't really listen to coldplay's newer stuff but goddamn they made a perfect album first try

Greatness, I think that English speaking people may be biased torwards disliking this album because of how many times the songs were on loop for a long time, but not being exposed to any of that means getting to really appreciate every single song.
Seeing people label this as boring or depressing is absolutely insane to me. Coldplay slander is rooted so deep in our society and I'm tired of seeing it. This is genuinely a beautiful album with super passionate and heartfelt songs, and I can't take anyone seriously who can't at least see that, even if it's not your thing. I love how calming each and every song is, even with the more upbeat moments still having that underlying sense of comfort and even sounding really inspiring at times. For an album as mainstream and widely known as this, I think it's amazing how well it has aged, and looking back on it over 25 years later is has absolutely stood the test of time, and only further solidifies Coldplay's first 4 albums as an absolutely generational streak in pop music history.
I was honestly shocked at how calming and passionate this felt. Will be returning.
Ah, haven't heard this one for ages. Can you believe that this is 25 years old? Strong debut album, no misses for me here.
When this album came out, my coworker ripped a copy of the CD for me on day one, handed it to me, saying, "You *have* to listen to this." Sure I'll give it a shot. This album stayed in my car changer as long as I owned that car. It's a remarkably good debut album, and such a standout from what was on offer at the time. There's a reason why fucking Coldplay became fucking Coldplay. This album doesn't contain their best song (Clocks, come at me), but it is as good of a debut album as can be.
Hear me out. This is a great record; it is warm, cozy, delightful - it's intimate in a way that none of their other records are. Their next album, "A Rush of Blood to the Head," got a lot of praise for its elevated ambitions, sounding bigger and bolder and more arena-friendly, and I think the band never got over that. Everything Coldplay has done since has been scientifically generated in a lab to evoke the most grandeur and majesty underneath sweeping universal ideas. But their best work is this tiny little record, where the title track is only 45 seconds. I realize this rating is biased, because I was absolutely the target audience for this record when it came out in 2000 - I remember seeing the posters for "Parachutes" all over the underground in London that summer, alongside Dido and Travis. It has a special place in my heart, and for me is a solid - FIVE STARS
Parachutes by coldplay was a beautiful album, (ik shocker). It was the first time i listened to the full album. Such a greya debut album. So incredibly human. To me it felt like even though life sucks sometimes, loving and feeling is the greatest gift of this life. What are we without love and grief and empathy and sadness and guily and joy. Nothing. Even the bad times are a reminder we are still alive.
Ooh, two days in a row of albums I actually like! I owned this CD back in the day. Love Coldplay too… can’t help but mentally see a sea of yellow twinkling lights when listening to Yellow - one of my top 3 concerts ever! (5)
I’m sorry, I have a Coldplay bias since the age of 11. This is a 5, and relistening at 23 reminded me why. I don’t know why I doubted it.
Amazing
it sounds beatiful and i guess that's what i wanted to hear now
Great album. Wish they still made music like this or like the first four albums.
Popular and talented, yet seems to be a hated pop band. Excellent first LP.
Favorite Track: Yellow
An all time fave, very gentle.
I never got the hate for this band.
An amazing debut album that shows a surprisingly rock-y side of Coldplay that you won't hear in their latest albums. I recommend it for everyone!
First album I've actually listened to in full before this challenge. Very cool to hate Coldplay but this album and Rush of Blood are straight bangers. 5/5.
I only consider the first two Coldplay albums good. This is the first. Later it all became just generic. No shame to admit, this is a great album (in spite of the bandwagon Coldplay critique). I especially enjoy the last 4 songs.
Oh Coldplay, you were once so good. Shiver is Jeff Buckley-lite and one of my all time favourite songs
My god, the first two albums were so fantastic. It's really a shame how they turned into a shitty commercial band shortly after that.

bangers en een mooi album
Classic early Coldplay. Every song is great!
i don't get how someone could give this album less than 3 or 4 stars. the music is just too good :sob: also, never before had i heard shiver but that track is PHENOMENAL
We live in a beautiful world, yeah we do, but we lost something truly special as Chris Martin tried and failed to mature as a musician. Oh how I miss the band Coldplay once was. The absolute mastery of naughties yearning, every single song on this album is top of it's class for experiencing your life as a personal anguished unrequited love montage. Even now, the strains of Shiver are literally yanking at my heartstrings like I've been pining after the girl of my dreams but she just doesn't know I exist. The album is full of songs that are the equivalent of musical valium. The bass line of Sparks for example brings to mind nothing more that being half asleep on a sunny afternoon. It's delicate and complex, like all the songs on this record, the chord progressions are genuinely delicious. How the writer of this album is responsible for 'A Headful of Dreams' or even the album art on it for that matter, is one of the great mysteries of the 21st century. There is literally not a song on the album that doesn't deserve to be called out by name, but I think Yellow deserves special mention for probably being the single that even people who never got the CD would know inside out. I have to believe its written into the DNA of all brits born before the year 2000. Which to be fair is getting on a bit. Anyway, it's a 5 star album, there isn't a bad song on it, not even a filler track really - and the final song Everything's Not Lost even pulls you up out of your lovelorn malaise so tenderly you might actually tearfully believe it's central refrain.
This is Coldplay's debut album. (!!) Parachutes is like a long walk. The first track is one where you put on your headphones, close your eyes, and nod your head back and forth. It's comforting and familiar, like the route you're about to take. Once you get a mile under your belt, you're starting to feel tired but will continue on. Your mind starts going, you reflect upon the past and look into the future. The walk continues, the steps mount and you get tired but will continue on knowing the satisfaction felt after completing physical activity. Back home now, on the couch and a beautiful baseline backed by relaxing production and a soothing voice tells you "It's a beautiful life to be grateful for"
discazo
truly incredible what music can make you feel
Sparks alone makes this album 5 stars
Coldplay are dull....blah blah blah Chris Martin's a dick.....blah blah blah There's not a bad track on this album. Some people need to get over themselves.
the best album of he word
Awesome
Truly magical experience, as mom had been playing this the day before we were told to listen! You were already ahead of the game at three months. You are also "A rush of blood to the head fan as well" :-) Don't panic is definitely your favorite, as you love when mommy sings along in her crazy voice, especially "yeah we do, yeah we do!" ( Mom actually sings "yabba Doo yabba Doo". She's very silly.
What an album, every single song is a masterpiece. Probably coldplay's best put together project, and produces a very strong argument for the greatest debut of all time.
Low 5. Didn’t realise how much I liked sad boy Coldplay or more so how much I hate modern day happy cult leader chris Martin. If he could go back to being sad that would be great
Parachutes, while not ground-breaking, is still a memorable album and listening to this again felt like slipping into the comfiest slippers. There's something very endearing about Chris Martin's sad and yearning lyrics - I can see why it's not to everyone's taste but I like it.
Barely any skips. Great Sunday evening music to chill out to and help with the existential dread of work. Probably their best work, maybe neck and neck with Rush of Blood to the Head, before they went stadium rock and boring.
AMO. Obra maestra
phenomenal album which has been with me my entire life. I think Rush of Blood and Viva la Vida are slightly better imo, but a great debut nonetheless
Nostalgic vibes, one of the first album I ever heard entire in my life. Is a new classic. Lyrically and tecnically beautiful. I relate to the lyrics at this point in my life.
Love coldplay, lots of great songs (but always quite sad…)
Solid gold, start to finish, great sequencing, no fillers; found this in high school and have been a fan ever since!
BEAUTIFUL
I’m disappointed to say that I actually really like this. Stand-outs: - Spies - Trouble - We Never Change
JOYA MAESTRA DEL POP ROCK CUANDO COLDPLAY HACIA BUENA SHIT. 10/10
love and have loved.
Perfect first album. 5/5
They could’ve stopped after their first few albums and had a perfect run! Great debut.
ABSOLUTE DELIGHT
What a joy it was to listen to this album again.
Album No. 0185 on my list. I've had an ambivalent relationship with Coldplay for a long time. On the one hand, they are certainly one of the most influential bands of the first half of the 2000s, on the other hand, I've always despised them for their decision to completely turn into the obnoxious pop direction after facing a creative crisis after "X&Y". At the time, they were in a similar position asU2 after "The Joshua Tree". But where U2 reinvented themselves without betraying their audience and without losing any of their energy, Coldplay recorded "Viva La Vida" and it got only worse from there. But I'm getting ahead of myself. I had not listened to "Parachutes" for some time, and now that I have, I have to say that it is pretty good. Comparisons to Radiohead's "The Bends" are definitely warranted. "Parachutes" drifts much more into the pop direction and lacks "The Bends'" angsty intensity, making it somewhat more "compliant" (sorry, not a native speaker). Still, "The Bends" is one of my favorite albums of all time, so "Parachutes" is still pretty great and has some unique qualities of its own (e.g. Jonny Buckland's playful guitar licks or the catchiness of most songs). I could definitely imagine many not-so-diehard Radiohead fans in 2000 being drawn towards Coldplay when Radiohead changed their musical direction forever and alienated some of them (and created what could plausibly considered to be the greatest album of this millennium). Anyway, "Parachutes" is a great debut album, showing the high potential that the artist that would become the most successful of the 21st century. The album sounds great, shows the cohesion and the great interplay of the band's members and includes several great songs. Specifically, I will add "Shiver", "Spies", "Yellow" (obviously), "Trouble", and "Everything's Not Lost" to my playlist. I guess, in the end, the highest rating is indeed warranted, making this the sixth album from the year 2000 so far to get five stars. So far, 2000 is the only year the albums from which I rated with five stars consistently. Let's see how long this holds up. 5/5 stars!
This is a brilliant album. Disagree? You are wrong!
Impossible to be objective, this was a *formative* album for me. Will say, though, “High Speed” is their most “Ok Computer Reject” track by far lol
This is one of my most listened to Coldplay albums. It just hits every time I listen to it. This is a perfect album in my opinion and its sad/wistful. I needed to hear this album today 3/13/26 Favorite Songs: Sparks, Yellow, Everything's not lost
Pleasant surprise! I knew the singles, but this is a really beautiful album with such a melancholy feel. I haven't enjoyed Coldplay's recent output very much, but this is a modern classic.
First not best but memorable
These days, people love to dunk on Coldplay. They’ve almost become the butt of the joke as bands for people who don’t really appreciate ‘good music’. This is certainly true for their recent releases, where they have embraced a more mainstream pop sound and have effectively ‘sold out’ to their corporate overlords. However, this is not a review of their recent albums. This is Coldplay, before they knew fame. And damn, is it good. Raw, emotional lyrics. Masterful songwriting. Excellent multi-instrumentalism. This really is a staggeringly mature debut, and contains many hit songs as well as beautiful hidden gems. Martin, while his voice may not be for some, gives an assured performance with voice, piano and acoustic guitar and his words really conjure up powerful emotions. This debut may not be as good as their sophomore album, A Rush Of Blood To The Head, but for me it is still of the highest five star quality. 9/10
This album is gorgeous. So well crafted and intentional. Not all the songs are bangers, but enough of them are. And the ones that are lesser are still pretty and easy to listen to. There is a certain Coldplay sheen that some people don't seem to be into, but I can't see what the problem would be. Part of me thinks they hate Coldplay because for some reason it's trendy to do so and they think they should. I haven't gone deep into their catalogue before, but I've appreciated the hits as I've heard them. This album is great and worth the esteem it gets. 4.6/5
BANGER everyone should listen to it. Don’t panic on loop📀
I love this album. Another from my younger days, so nostalgia scores a point, but there are some excellent tunes on here. Doesn't outstay its welcome, either.
if you actively dislike coldplay you're just trying too hard. grow up
idk it's a banger. I'd put it on anytime I want to feel mellow and calm. Incredible debut album.
I love Coldplay don't care what people think.
This album is incredibly vulnerable and introspective. This is Coldplay at their most intimate and emotional. They're so great at creating a mood that forces the listener to look outward and inward at the same time. Perfection.
Aint gonna lie, I really like this album, Shiver was one of my favorite songs when I had my first crush, so it is important to me It can sound a bit repetitve but the melodies, some lyrics, and the emotions it can convey are very strong too. One of Coldplay's best albums before they turn into trash
One of my very favorite albums. So mellow while also giving explosive and emotional outbursts. By far Coldplays best album with so many interesting lyrics and beautiful melodies. They never really reached this high again.
Perfect album.
Belleza
A genuine suprise, really fantastic songwriting. 4.5
Für mich das beste Coldplay Album. Melancholisch.
The voice of a spotty-faced angel
Instant classic, every song is a mellow hymn
My favorite Coldplay album where almost every song has something interesting
I do like Coldplay quite a bit, actually. 5*
One of my favorite albums of all time. Brings me back to college in the dorms.
Okay This album has one of my favorite songs ever and it’s of course sparks. Some people call this Walmart Radiohead, they have a name😢. I love Chris Martins voice a lot and i just wanna mention his feature on Kanye West’s Graduation (Kanye not ye)And he does his part so well that i couldn’t wait to relisten to this album. First off everytime i think of cold play i immediately think of the affair caught on camera, like how could you get caught like that😭.This album is perfect for rainy days i mean it’s so mellow and calming to me especially sparks. I do see the same formula used for some of these songs but atleast it’s good to listen to. I don’t find myself a music critic although i do listen to music i only rate it a certain score if i actually enjoy the album and liked it and this album is just one of them. for some reason i thought this album was made in like the early 2010s or late 2000s. no it was made in the year 2000?? i didn’t know they were here for 26 years its crazy to think of. and for their debut album to be this good is insane. look at the stars look how they shine for youuuu, another one of my favorite songs aswell. if i were a smoker id smoke to this whole album. in all seriousness the impact tho album has on me isn’t really big but its been with me growing up, just listening to yellow or sparks or even the whole album. this album has meaning. peak song writing as well. the song trouble is beautiful, matter of fact THE WHOLE ALBUM IS. one down side is that i don’t see myself really listening to this in the future unfortunately but i would listen to it here and there and you know i love a classic sad album but i don’t know if i would give it 5 stars but 4 stars is good . nevermind i change my mind its a 10/10 i love the vibe of this album its there 5 stars
Wow. What an incredible comforting sadness. Very gentle and tender in a way that’s so powerfully touching. How can you not feel emotion with the beautiful vocals of Chris Martin? Those sweeping sounds take you sky-high without letting go. And the way a song like Shiver increases the intensity of its instrumentation to create this slightly harsher feeling of grandeur? Just fantastic. You just have to be romantic about an album like this. Faves: Shiver, Sparks, Don’t Panic, Everything’s Not Lost, Yellow, High Speed
Álbum excelente, adoro essas músicas
really nice listen
I was trying to think of why this isn't a 5 star but I can't. I love this album and it has so many good songs. Coldplay did great things after this (as well as bad things) but this album is a no skip classic
Already heard it before. 5/5.
Perfect sad music
All Time Favorit 🎉
A modern classic. Hit after hit.
One of the greatest debut albums ever
Takes me back.
YESSSSSSSSSSS top ten no skip album
This album reminds me of so much of the music that got me and my husband talking so I am forever grateful for this ! Although I don’t listen to it much nowadays it never fails to make me sing along and take me back to my youth simply great album
Sure
reminds me of being a kid. wish coldplay still sounded like this
Not the biggest fan but man that album was really good. 5 star worthy and I’m sure will still hold up in 2036 and 2046.
Their best album in my opinion! This is one of those records that should be in any list of perfect releases and best debuts.
I feel like I grew in a time where Coldplay had been good for a few albums and became a bit of a meme. Relistening to this album now, and I see what made them great in the first place. A lot of replay value here as and album, and plenty of individual songs that stand out.
unlike my first impulse, this album still shines brighter from song to song, when ignoring the cheesy aspects of it. liked it in my teens, still like it a lot now
Coldplay are just one of those bands that are solid. This album has some really nice songs that are just right when in a certain kind of mood. They feel gentle and like a warm blanket. Will definitely listen to again. sparks :(
absolute banger and so nostalgic
One of my fav Coldplay albums ever. 10/10
Quite enjoyable!
A classic.
Still fantastic
Like some kind of 2000s TV show soundtrack
I love this album. I bought it in ourprice when it came out as my independence on music had started to grow. It sounds intimate and classic/timeless in it's setup.
Classic
Once of the best debut albums of all time. T Wow, I forgot how much Chris Martin was trying to channel/emulate Jeff Buckley on Sunday like Shiver. And he pulls it off. He found his own voice on later albums, but it's fun to re-hear this.
phenomenal, forgot how much I enjoyed old Coldplay
It’s a very chill album and I’m really liking it
Beautiful
j'ai bien aimé bonne vibe
A classic album. So many great songs. Excellent vocal performances.
god.. one of my favorite albums EVER.
odličan album, jako moj đir, daje ti baš onaj neki specifičan osjećaj utjehe, nade, inspiracije, coming of age, sve ce bit u redu vibe; super
Day710 - yellow was the gateway drug into coldplay and it’s amazing but i could also listen to trouble, shiver and sparks on repeat
The back half of this album did not live up to the overly high expectations I had after the first five songs. But none of it was bad. That front half just brought some HEAT. And I mean come on. Yellow is an all timer. You caught me on a good day Coldplay. This is more like a 4.5 that I am rounding up to a 5.
Amazing album, instant nostalgia 🤩
Had this in my cd player for a year when it came out
Kažkaip užkabino, labai patiko, kiekviena daina buvo graži.
Whoa Coldplay are amazing
Cannot calculate how much of my high school homework was completed while listening to this album on a loop. A perfect album for the yearners out there, no notes
honestly can’t think of anything bad to say about this album. sonically and lyrically amazing. chris martin has a beautiful voice.
💙 Even though it's been more than 20 years since I've listen to this album in its entirety, I know it back and forth, note by note.
One of my all-time favorites
A classic, one of the most nostalgic and emotive albums of my youth
4.6 It's July 2000, I've just broken up for school holidays, and I'm ready to play Championship Manager 00/01 all summer in the computer room in our house (remember that?), closing the blinds to keep out the light. I'm mostly listening to Chris Moyles' radio 1 show, and the assorted Ibiza clubhouse bangers that come with it, but then drops this little album that somehow becomes the soundtrack to my summer. And then I never listen to it again afterward until 25.5 years later seemingly. Looking back, it's unobjectivebly a fantastic album. It's a bit of Radiohead but more polished in some respect, prior to their Stadium rock sound that I think detracted from the band. This is a band who've hit the sweet spot in calling the atmosphere of Creep but without the weird incel vibe that comes with it. It's an extremely pleasant album, so well polished, and I'm surprised I don't see it higher up in anyones list in hindsight.
I may be on some list somewhere for this, but I genuinely love this record. Great production, great songs, great performances, everything about it is a perfect debut, even if "Yellow" is tiresomely played out and already was all the way back in 2000. Also, I don't get the Radiohead comparison. Closest I can think of is Martin's voice can sometimes get a little similar to Yorke's and the lead guitar on "Don't Panic" might sound a little bit like something off Pablo Honey or The Bends. That said, by the time this came out, we were already had OK Computer behind us and were onto Kid A.
Obviously a classic.
Really liked this whole album, will listen again
In the year 2000, rock music is in sort of a sonic purgatory. The height of grunge is far gone in the rear view mirror. What's left of it is sort of an off brand diet grunge. Nu metal is well established and highlighted by the recent and controversial Woodstock '99. The landscape is messy, immature and maybe a little toxic. So here comes Coldplay with their debut single, Yellow. A straightforward love song accompanied by a straightforward music video. So why did it blow up? How did something sweet and loving erupt into a scene filled with music made for wrestling and motocross? Simply, I think the world was ready for something more vulnerable and kinder. Coldplay's debut album, Parachutes, brought exactly that without sacrificing that rock and roll edge. Your memory might picture their sound as acoustic guitar and piano but it's easy to forget that this album is filled with powerful riffs and thundering drums. These things coexist to dance around a melancholic landscape of emotions. Doing so without boring you. The tracklist on this album is insane. The first six tracks are an incredible run of amazing music. It's unskippable. The band has come a long way from this original sound. Their discography is vast and has played around with different genres. All bands should evolve and experiment. I wouldn't want ten versions of Parachutes because this one is perfect and it will always be here. And I'm glad I got to revisit it once more.
So nostalgic, genuinely some of the best 2000's pop/soft rock ever written
a lovely chill album 5/5
I mean, do I need to relisten to this one again? It's on my top (25?), I would love it if Coldplay would revisit this sound instead of the generic whatever pop bullshit they've been doing for 15 years.
Lovely.
Possibly quite corny, but still a 5.
can one not love both coldplay and radiohead
THIS debut album is the reason Coldplay is relevant - I could not stop listening to this when it came out, I downloaded it off Napster and it took like 9hrs per song. Don't Panic is still AWESOME and funnily was my alarm last wk : ) whole album is beautiful
This was the soft rock that my peers were into in middle school. Sure it's derivative of radiohead without the prog or electronic that made radiohead great... but it's still good. I love piano ballads.
You know I avoid Coldplay since the nonsense they started making in the 10s, but this relisten was romantic and beautiful and nostalgic. I forgot how many tracks I used to love. Great work everyone
one of my fav coldplay albums because of the big nostalgia factor favs: don’t panic, sparks, yellow, trouble, we never change actual rating: 4.5/5
Love every track.
Exceptional album. Lyrics and music are superb.
A beautiful album that transports me back 25 years. It's a delightful blend of piano and guitar on each song, and Chris Martin's voice compliments the music perfectly. Any of Coldplay's first three albums are gonna get a 5 out of 5.
So nostalgic! I loved this album in high school, but I hadn't listened to it since then. Gorgeous.
Que fort que aquest album sigui dels 2000. M'entanta tot, pero yellow com a prefe. Me du records i increibles.
Best Coldplay album, and one of the best 2000s albums overall. This was really something when it came out: a new sound, great melodies, and a perfect flow from beginning to end. Everything’s not lost is a hell of a closing track.
Back when Coldplay wrote music I (personally) could connect with, great album, all the feels ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Truth is I don't like Coldplay. But this album is excellent. It would be pretentious of me not to give it 5 starts.
very nostalgic. 5/5
plakuwa total i absolutny klasyczek
It's an album you listen to on your own, in ur dimly lit bedroom. Slightly sad. Don't panic is my favorite track on the album along with sparks. This and X&Y is the most meaningful Coldplay music to me. I remember being in the back of the van driving for a quick stop, doing something at a farm somewhere in what i think was a freezing night in november with Coldplay on the radio. Being very young i could never understand the lyrics to Coldplay but i could enjoy the tunes and started to recognize them as some of my favorite as a young lad.
might be a little blinded by nostalgia here, but I honestly don’t think I am. Phenomenal breakout album, and it has proved hard to top. No skips.
It seems like every album after this one was Coldplay doing an imitation of themselves in an attempt to get another pop hit like "Yellow" (maybe not Rush of Blood, although that one had "Clocks"). I find this to be their most genuine album where they wear their influences on their sleeve. Great from beginning to end!
I almost didn’t listen to this album, now here I am giving it a 5? This one is a conduit of “poptimism”, a showcase that mainstream, accessible music can be damn good. It’s interesting, with some of the best guitar parts in pop. It works in everything from church services to movie scenes. It also makes ya feel something.
Several tracks take me right back to college. Felt like every girl I dated at that time listened to it, and by default it became the romantic soundtrack of my life.
Personally, I like Coldplay much better than I like Radiohead, and this particular album has grown over time to become, if not a favourite, then at least one that I can happily play on a regular basis.
Greyson was so right
Favourite coldplay album
loved it, perfect album for a rainy moody day
This album brings about a sense of nostalgia. This will always be one of my favorite albums of all time but I'm a bit biased
This is personal. I love this album. Spark brings me tears and good memories, but with a tint of melancholy. For me, this was THE best Coldplay album ever.
They literally never came close to this album again. Masterpiece
Perfect album! Masterpiece! Every track is very nice. Smooth music and voice. I want to listen it again and again,. Super album!
One train of great songs, a masterpiece. Looking at other reviews it looks like a lot of frustrated people out there.
Very enjoyable album! Can definitely hear the music that will follow!
I loved Coldplay a lot between the ages of 13-16 but fell off pretty hard when AoaL came out (did not like that one at all). This is my first time revisiting an album of theirs and I’m glad I did. I forgot how many incredible songs are on here and how beautiful the instrumentation is.
Fuck yes, more Coldplay. Had to dust off my CD collection and fire up my old 3 disc changer for this melancholic classic. Still holds up. 🖕🏻for the haters
5 Sterne
one of the most iconic one ever
Ahh... the perfect Radiohead album. Seriously, this has banger after banger.
Coldplay in its purest, most perfect form - the Coldplay that was good without all the pop crap and political statements. This was some of the only good music of the era.
What an excellent, excellent album from start to finish. I've generally only really known Coldplay from their bigger hits but all of these other songs are just so great. Just spectacular. 10/10
Phenomenal debut album with no skips. Easy to understand why this catapulted Coldplay into stardom. The other reviews for this album display an embarrassing degree of baggage that people bring to the table for Coldplay..? Unless Chris Martin banged your wife, just review the damn album!
djooour SKEEEEEEEINNNN oh yeah I SKIIIN AND BOOOOOONES turn EEEEEEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIN to something BEAUTIFULLLL Brilliant (debut!) album from a brilliant band. Each member contributes equally, I miss this version of "awkwardly excellent college kids" Coldplay before they turned into the Chris Martin Pop Hit Machine
Sonic perfection, one of my favourite albums of all time
Favourites: All of them!
I care for the entirety of Coldplay as little as the next guy, but people's need to make hating them a part of their personality is fucking boring. Who's an edgy boy? Yes, you are! *cuddles*. Let me share an observation here: many of the 1 star ratings come from users who seem much more interested in generally hating music than liking it, seeing their ratios of Highest VS Lowest Rated Albums. Huh. Anyways. Personally, I haven't paid any attention to Coldplay after "Rush of Blood" and what I happened to hear on the radio or wherever leads me to believe that their further U2-like trajectory was to fill arenas and become service providers for their fans - saw some concert clips once, providers of happiness, I can respect that. But whatever the music became, it doesn't take away from the first two albums. Which are damn fine records. Sure it's all a bit "beige", but so is my favourite pair of trousers and our most comfy blanket.
I LOVE COLDPLAY! THIS IS GONNA BE AWESOME! edit: awesome album. just so great.
Une valeur sûre!
🗯 Despite the felonies of their future output, Parachutes remains a singularly beautiful record. Yes, it owes a heavy debt to The Bends and U2, but that doesn’t dull its impact. These songs are smashing — earnest, melodic, and heartfelt in a way that landed perfectly at the turn of the millennium. Chris Martin shines throughout, his voice fragile but insistent, while the guitars land right in the feels. It’s also kind of funny to think about: how did this shimmering little record inform such glorious sonic mistakes later on? The seeds of stadium bombast were here, but in miniature — more candlelight than fireworks. Yellow, Shiver, Trouble — tracks that made Coldplay feel like they were going to be our new Radiohead, not… whatever they became. Still, judged on its own, Parachutes is a lovely time capsule of soft-focus emotion before the confetti cannons took over. Can we exclude everything beyond from Coldplay cannon and begin again? Verdict: Excellent (a fragile beauty, even if it spawned future crimes) For fans of: Radiohead (The Bends), U2, Travis, Keane, yearning in lowercase
Childhood, and also the trio of Sparks-Yellow-Trouble is wow
Banger. The album that started one of the most insane album run of our century so far. Chris Martin took a couple piano lessons as a kid and decided to be one of the most influential people in modern music. Don't panic - the biggest downside is that it's so short. What an amazing feeling guitar, so addicting Shiver - instrumentals on point again but this one is a bit weaker overall for me. Vocals could be a bit better Spies - didn't know this one before, it's lowkey really good. Like idk man how do they cook these instrumentals every time Sparks - one of the most memorable modern songs, and for a good reason. The gentle instrumentals combined with Chris Martin's soothing voice make for a mesmerising experience yellow - be sick of it topping the charts for so long, but you can't deny that it just has the fucking sauce trouble - ?????????????????????? stop it man, we get it parachutes - unexpectedly short, not much else to say abt it high speed - nice groove, reminds me of sting a little bit we never change - never knew this one, makes me feel a certain way when the guitair comes in. pretty good. everything's not lost - pretty good life is for living - its really nice actually
The vocals are understated in just the right way, just the right softness on consonants to keep the melody and instruments in a lilting flow. Surprisingly ethereal beauty. Masterfully produced.
Great album. A lot of popular singles from a debut album. Music to get caught cheating with your HR director on an international scale.
Good lyricism and sounds that are mixed well. Sentimental and intentional songs
This is one of my favorite albums of all time, and I’m not joking. No, I’m not a millennial; I am indeed a young adult. But, there’s something about Coldplay that unites anybody, whether that be the millennials or young adults or teens forced by millennials to go to Coldplay concerts. That, dear reader of this review, is the emotion within the album. Over a span of basically 42 minutes, Chris Martin and company provide vulnerable indie rock that’s vague yet appealing, as in, multiple people can soundtrack certain moments of their lives to these songs. Yes, the obvious hits here are “Yellow” and “Sparks”, but “Shiver,” “Don’t Panic,” “Trouble,” and “Everything’s Not Lost” definitely deserve your attention as well. Each and every song on this album weaves together beautifully written melodies, interesting & unique chord progressions, and lyrics that are so mainstream that the underground folk would cringe if anybody pulled out one of these songs at a karaoke bar. This American gives this debut a 5/5.
As a non-Coldplay fan I really enjoyed this album. Every song kinda sounds the same, but all good. A class mate in high school made a remix of trouble which got over a million views on YouTube which was pretty cool
I love the albums generator for the new experiences, the unexpected views and vibes. I know Coldplay pretty well. I have enjoyed their music-despite the media bites through the years. But hearing this entire album was a new experience. I enjoyed it from the start, but after listening repeatedly, I love it. Very well done. It entered my heart and soul.
Weird that I got these back to back. Anyway, 5 stars no question. A haunting, beautiful debut.
<3 Yellow
I know a lot of people think a certain way of Coldplay today, but when this album released it was a breath of fresh air. To this day, it is one of my favorites. The tonal sensibilities of Radiohead blended with the melodies and song structures of more traditional alt/pop. Catchy, emotional and cathartic. An all time debut.
Pre-listening notes: I have a ton of nostalgia with this album. It's one that I distinctly remember listening to while driving around town with my family. And I loved it so much then, that I bought it on vinyl a few years ago and have listened to it that way a handful of times. It's easily an all-time comfort album for me, and one that I know I very much enjoy. This is what pop music is supposed to be. It's so accessible and simple, but complete. Like, you couldn't add another instrument or change the harmonies/chords without muddying it, and honestly, probably making it a worse album. Maybe you could add vocal harmonies, but I don't think that would outright make the album better. If I wanted to be overly critical, I would say that the album is a little short, and it is pretty one-note emotionally, but I don't even think I fully agree with the latter statement. I think, on a surface level, it can feel a little flat, but there's enough going on that any intentional listen gets deep enough to see variety in tone, tempo, and general vibes. Favorite Song(s): Shiver, Spies, Sparks, Yellow, Trouble
Early coldplay was fire. Perfect rock pop album. Feels like a warm comfy blanket. As a teenager i borrowed this cd so many times from the local library. Chris Martin's voice is mesmerizing. So many great songs on there. Love yellow, spies, sparks and everything's not lost. No skip album for me.

Absolute Goldplay. A truly magnificent debut and the most enduring and evergreen of classics even if evergreen isn’t the most apt word what the breakthrough single being ‘Yellow’. 21st century music really did peak very early on with this and their even more all-conquering follow-up Rush Of Blood To The Head. 5+ Stars.
i like coldplay
# Album Name: Parachutes # Artist: Coldplay # Rating: 5/5 # Comments: Absolute banger of an album. THE best coldplay album imo. Closely followed by their follow up. It went to shit after their 2nd album. # Top Tunes: All of it # Would I listen to it again? Yes
Really good
I turned on this album and my blood pressure goes down and. That’s all I need to know.
-Like how its more mellow but has rock aspects -Very good drops -Like his emotive voice -Very familiar and well known
Look, you really must learn to detach the artist from the album. I didn’t manage to do that when I listened to Michael Jackson. Because whatever his sad fanatical fans and the Michael Jackson Estate lawyers say, he was a fucking weird plastic skinned chimp loving nonce. However I admit I’m a total hypocrite because if there was a Best Of Gary Glitter album on this list then it would get a 5 from me, whatever the creepy fucker has done. And similarly, as stated in the top review (at time of writing), Chris Martin may be an insufferable cunt, but this is a superb album. Sorry. 5
лучшие 41 минута 25 секунд за последнее время personal favorites — trouble, high speed, everything's not lost сравнения с радиохед считаю неуместными, it touches the very fiber of my being.
OG Coldplay is still great. I loved it in 2000, and I do still love it. Actually, I forgot how much I loved this one.
I just love Parachutes and don't give a fuck what others think
I listened to this during a cold autumn morning while playing Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, the saddest and most beautiful race I've ever had in that game.
Tellement incroyable.
Everything's Not Lost is one of the best closing tracks of all time. What great guitar work throughout the album.
At one point this was my all time favorite album.
Deserves a 5 despite becoming the band they are now
99999/10 GOAT
Coldplay's debut does exactly as its title would suggest: brings you gently back down to Earth with tender consolation and the quiet assurance that everything will be alright.
One thing I've loved so far has been going back to albums I grew up on and having a newer appreciation for, as I've gotten older.
This was an exceptional first outing. Took a while for it to grow on me, but it has now become a favorite. So many well crafted tracks.
An extraordinary debut album. By Coldplay standards it’s mellow but includes 4-5 radio rotation worthy songs. Gentle guitars and piano coupled with thoughtful lyrics, and of course Chris Martin’s unique voice.
great album, i will always have a soft spot for it
The only Coldplay album I’d go into battle for. And man I’d go into battle for this one. It’s perfect.
Este es mi disco favorito de Coldplay. Poco más que decir 💌
I remember working at Sam Goody when this album came out and hating it at first. But, the more we were forced to play it in the store, the more I found myself singing along. It's arguably one of the great debut efforts of all time - just in terms of how it took off and how it influenced the rest of the decade. Coldplay carved our a unique niche with this one.
Alltid gillat Coldplay. Först i smyg. Dont panic är sjukt bra. Hela skivan håller extremt hög nivå rakt igenom. Bra skit helt enkelt.
Chris Martin is still insufferable
Not cool to like them but it's an excellent album
This album will always hold a special place in my heart.
I really like it overall. It definitely has that late 90 / early aughts vibe, but it's just enough rock with just enough chill.
OMAIGÁAAAAA Always a 10/10 for me. Delicioso disco, preciosura. Thanks to my motherfucking older brother. I love every song very much. 5/5
