true funk

Phenomenal album from start to finish. Opening track is high energy and it doesn't let you all album. Great grooves, basslines, arrangements. Killer album.

Classic

Pure funky goodness. What a fun, no worries album.

A ridiculously fun, endlessly inventive, and culturally essential funk masterpiece that still sounds like it arrived from the year 3000. Though a few tracks feel a bit repetitive

Today is disclosure day! If we ever come in contact with the mothership, I can only hope it involves GC and Parliament! From beginning to end, this album is a blast. I can't explain it and don't want to. If you don't enjoy this album, my guess is that you will likely not make it through the list. This is Funk for Funk's Sake. Worth every juicy note.

funk de calidad favs "Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)" y "Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples" 4.2

Isch zwar nöd s wildiste Album aber hät fett bockt

Macht mehr Spaß als ich erwartet hätte. Sehr angenehm nebenbei.

Funky!

love this

Had me skipping on my feet.Very groovy and full of life

Really fun album. Love it.

Love this album. Defining the original funk genre. Criminally underrated whist being so influential.

Parliament (and funk from this era generally) always makes me think of my mom, so my rating for this album is definitely biased. However, I can't consciously remember hearing any of these songs before except for Give Up The Funk. This album is groovy front to back, has an interesting intergalactic throughline, and is overall an excellent 70's funk album. Favorite Tracks: Unfunky UFO, Handcuffs, Give Up The Funk

So many songs I didn’t realize were all on the same album

4/5 - Good funk

Pretty cool stuff.

I am the least funky human being on the planet, but I enjoyed this record. I feel like this is the platonic ideal of a funk record. Even if this isn't your style, as it wasn't mine, it's upbeat and it moves quickly.

Funk you!!

Classic funk album that everyone should listen to

Who wants the funk?

Heavy duty funk. At the cusp of absurd but they pull it off. Fun and entertaining album.

Don’t make the obvious joke, don’t make the obvious joke, don’t make the obvious joke Funk it! This album really funked my shit up, man!

A tight 38 minutes of groove. 3.75/5.

For such a staple funk album and band I expected more from this album. I knew some of the more famous songs this was my first time listening to the whole thing. Overall pretty groovy with a lot of good bass lines.

WE GOTTA HAVE THE FUNK!!! George Clinton delivers once again. Last time we encountered his Parliament-Funkadelic collective in this challenge, we got Maggot Brain, one of the best ever slices of psychedelic funk rock put to wax. This time, it's Mothership Connection by their other alias Parliament - pure groovy, ass-shaking P-funk, all bouncing bass and squelching synths. Just as glorious, just as groovy, just as FUNKY.

This album is the sound of a whole crew of people having the time of their lives and I love it.

Such a smooth experience. The sounds still feels relevant and interesting, maybe because I'm not a big funk connoisseur. Anyways, it's going on my playlist.

Positive, upbeat, funky. 8 songs, easy to listen to.

Extra points because my Dad was super in to this and I always knew he was cool as hell.

The grandaddy of all funk music. Contains P-Funk, Give Up The Funk, and the title track, with so much funky bass, silly spoken word stream-of-consciousness interludes and goofy vocal effects. Classic funky riffs. Bootsy Collins and George Clinton. Unfunky UFO is a monster groove as are the rest of the non-famous tracks.

funkalicious perhaps

me gusto mucho la portada antes de escucharlo. se me hacen muy largas las canciones, pero me gusta el ritmo

Outstanding music.

Hmm, a 70s funk album. This is looking good. One of the first things you notice about this album is that it doesn't take itself seriously at all. It wants to party and get, well, funky. It does, with the energetic horns and groovy bass beats that define the genre. Vocals are pretty good, but the spoken word can get tedious(to say nothing of the lyrics, which are very superficial and unimportant). Many of the songs have overlong runtimes for what they are(various spoken word bits and sung bits placed over frequently repetitive music). This is a good album and an enjoyable one that knows what it is, but the numerous musical fallacies of the era that the band falls into cannot be overlooked. Or perhaps I don't know how to have fun... This album is ranked #7 of 22 albums for 1975. Other 1975 albums rated by me: Wish You Were Here(1/22)-5 A Night At The Opera(2/22)-5 Physical Graffiti(3/22)-4 Blood on the Tracks(4/22)-3 That's the Way of the World(8/22)-5 Red Headed Stranger(11/22)-5

We got the funk!

Funkalicious, funkadelic, funking funktastic.

Un super album avec des sonorités vraiment cool mais je trouves la seconde partie de l'album un peu en-dessous de la première.

I'll take more of that sound in my life for $500 Trebek. That's something I would have wanted to see live.

Loved it

This album made me listen to Black Cow by Steely Dan

I listened for the first time over the course of a very gentle and lazy morning without interruption, and I listened a second time when I was more awake, dealing with work frustrations and annoyances. Before I even got to the music, this album had already made an impact on me by finally helping me understand how Parliament-Funkadelic works: what I had always just hand-waved away as being one band is more of an artistic collective usually releasing music under two different names for two different vibes. Mothership Connection is propelled by a very light-hearted sense of humor and an untouchable vibe: the instrumentals don't make any major steps or movements, primarily staying within their groove and carrying on at a gentle pace. Connecting with his album seems to rely on whether or not you can get into the groove of any specific song, as the actual music itself is always incredibly funky and well-performed. For my personal enjoyment, the biggest determining factor tended to be whether or not the vocals caught me: the songs which stood out were the ones which were more vocally interesting. The keys, horns, and synths constantly shone from song to song, and I can recognize just how unfathomably funky this entire album is even if it doesn't all jump out at me personally. Highlights: P-Funk (Wants To Get Funked Up), Mothership Connection (Star Child), Handcuffs, Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker)

The kind of music you can throw on at a party and just vibe to, which obviously has its merits. I just don't feel the need to lock in on any of it so much.

I mean, it's a groovy record and brought a smile to my face on a pretty stressful day. Was nice to tell my problems to "funk off." 4/5

Objectively good, just not really my thing I guess

I love the 70s funk, but Parliament isn't as powerful as Stevie Wonder or Funkadelic, whom I prefer. Still, this is some inspiring r&b. 3.5/5

Funk as a genre seems to just not exist anymore. Maybe because everyone agreed they nailed it with this and we can move on.

First day back in work after 10 days of annual leave. This made it easier. Funky.

Very good

I wonder how many times they say "funk" on this. As if you could mistake it for anything else

This album is mental, in a good way. The synth noises are like funk satire at times, some of the vocals make me feel like I'm listening to Flight of the Concords (who were obviously big fans), the horns the chants. I can't tell if it's too much or not enough.

This is almost the definition of Oldschool funk! Is it over the top, yes absolutely! But it grooves like nothing else. It's not my absolute favourite sound, all that musical kitsch and bling, but it is extremely well made and sometimes a bit of funky fun is just all you need.

Time to feel the funk! Head bobbing along with pretty much every single tune on this 7 track album. Highly entertaining.

I’m partial to a bit of funk and this landed nicely - it helps there is some familiarity in the form of Give up the Funk but also their influence on other artists, the most notable from this listen was on Warren G.

- super funkyyy - alr knew give up the funk was a banger before this album - realized the whole album is a banger - funky = good relisten quality. - easy to get into - love the deep vocals with the funky weird guitar sounds - just claps. - we want the funk! Give up the funk! Nowwww

A solid slab of Funk.

Funky! I wanted to dance I wanted to listen it was a nice experience ❤️ looking forward to listening again

It's pretty cool, lots of rythm and soul. I just think some tracks ran a bit long for my personal taste, but otherwise it's focused and diverse

This is the funky shit! Og det må være et af Dr. Dre’s yndlings albums. Han har ihverfald samplet det meste i sin G-Funk periode. Det rykker også ret hårdt.

This album puts the FUN in FUNK. This is the kind of thing I hoped to get out of listening through the list, something I would have never spun up on my own, might not spin up again, but thoroughly enjoyed listening through it. Really enjoyed Handcuffs but everything on this album just sort of bumps along while you bob your head.

My god, what an album. It was tough listen due to how much I wanted to dance while listening to it. I have always heard about funk music, today I understood it. Masterfully produced, the instruments were second to none, the vocals were banging, over-all crazy album. Added to my offline rotation. It made me feel like bully Maguire from Spider-Man 3. FUNK IT UP! Favourite song in the album - Night of The Thumpasorus Peoples No. of favourited songs - 7/7 Rating - 4/5

incredible. i feel funkalicious

I think this one has to be 4 stars (I wish I could justify 5). Best song, an old fave for me, is Give Up the Funk. After that, everything else is pretty good to good (at times very good), but, at the same time, doesn't really stand out all that much for me. Also, I'm tempted to say that the same qualities that make this special -- the creativity and imagination -- also make it a little . . . shambolic? (Look it up -- I did, to make sure it was what I wanted to say, lol.) Bonus points for historical importance -- keeping the funk/freak flag flying through the 70s, uniting the Sly Stone and James Brown strains of funk (I saw that this album features Fred Wesley and Maceo Parker from James Brown's backing band, the J.B.'s), with some Afro-Futurism thrown in, to boot(sy). Bootsy Collins is a funk bass giant. Bernie Worrell later played with the Talking Heads ("Stop Making Sense" era). I guess it feels like 5 stars should be granted stingily, so I think 4 stars feels right for this one.

Essential funk

wasn't expecting that

mega funky

How can you not rate this less than 4 stars? So many classics on a single album

Nice groove. Different music for me

Let's funk it up! The backbone of the funk itself. Pure blast of fun with no brakes.

That was a whole box of funky fun.

"We've got the funk" - They really weren't lying!

It's impossible not to smile when listening to this. Parliament/Funkadelic represents probably the best of this genre. A great way to start my Friday. I do love me some Bootsy Collins bass.

It’s fun and it’s funky!

This album's got me funked up

Funky junky and good time dancing music. Big fan.

Como no conocía este sonido

It makes you happy, 'nuff said.

Very funky. Good first album for me

Nothing like listening to this walking through Edinburgh airport at 6 in the morning…

Taking funk to outer space

Funkadelic. Love this

Timeless Sunday morning groove which is impossible to believe is 51 years young. There are so many places you hear his influence (Prince anyone?) and there's a very good reason he got a Sinners cameo! A very respectful 4*

Great funk for any old punk!

Very funky

Great album. It was a funky journey.

These guys ran so that OutKast could fly. A joyful listen. Not quite a blind listen but close.

This album was a funk explosion! I need more intergalactic funk emissaries in my life. I love the commitment to the bit too

Heard it described as a parody of funk, which is fair. The theme is funk. And space/afrofuturism. The music is really good, and the overall aesthetic is cool

Love this album

Excellent!

WE WANT THE FUNK!!!!!!!

Funk as fuck!

This album really funked me up

Everyone needs a healthy amount of funk in their life

Groovy

an awesome collection of funk music and an absolute must listen for anyone wanting a well rounded musical repertoire. Almost a 5, would've given a 4.5 if allowed.

Funky, psychedelic banger.

Very fun and extremely funky, with commentary that bounces between goofy, politically charged, and uplifting. Remarkably indulgent and rich, although the songs are a bit too long (admittedly, less an issue with the record and more with the way I listen to records). It's not willing to get silly, and really turn every single musical idea up to 11. I haven't listened to much funk beyond stuff released post-2000, and this is far more committed to the vibe than most of what I've heard. Handcuffs's lyrics feels a little creepy to me, though. And the album reaches such critical funk by the end that the bass turns into a fart and the chorus devolves into "gagagooga" (which is honestly extremely peak and I love it). 4/5!

Funky and Fun.

Has to be one of the most sampled records ever, and with good reason!

Lovely

love some funk

Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker)

Funky to the max. 3.5/5

Unreal amounts of funk

So corny but so fun and sounds great

have a funky friday

Love it, funny

Space funk! What fun! The monologues did drag at times, but overall I had a great time. I appreciate the theatricality of it all and the vocal plus instrumental double-whammy really elevated it for me, so lively!

experimental pero un gran disco

That was such a groovy and funky adventure/ride. I was in a chilly universe, having a Space Beer with my friends while I was piloting a spaceship. I enjoyed iiit !

I've always loved a few of these tracks and it was a fun re-listen. What clicked this time through was that behind all the zany antics is a very diligently crafted album, i guess you could say the production. They created the vibe that you're walking into a raucous party and everyone has an instrument and it should sound like shit, but it works so well, no note out of place. On the negative side, not a lot of depth in the actual song writing, pretty repetitive.

Pretty good. A little bit cheesy

>funky >not rly my genre >got to the end and was actually really enjoying it to my surprise

very funky and metallic? i enjoyed most of the songs.

the funkiest funk to ever funk. p

immaculate vibes actually. This album laid the foundation for so much modern music and it still holds up really well. Sure, not everything here has aged perfectly, and there was a lot of weird, possible fart noises on the outro, but I still had a lot of fun with it

Solid vocals, short & sweet album. Loved the concept. Dancing is mandatory! I will say, the first track (P-Funk) was the highlight for me, and unfortunately set the bar a bit too high for some of the following tracks. I also wasn't a fan of the "barefoot & pregnant" reference, but I guess it was just a popular phrase at the time. Nonetheless, the record was still really good as a whole. My highlights were: - P-Funk - Mothership Connection (Starchild) - Give Up the Funk This was my first (intentional) listen to funk music, and it was a great intro! Hopefully this album only grows on me!

Really fun and enjoyable. Literally slaps funk in your face.

Extraterrestrial funk, to get you out of a funk

a classic

Absolutely loved this album. A lot of samples I knew from the Dr Dre - the chronic album. Pleasantly surprised. Every song has a charm to it.

Great album for Old School Funk-fans. Extremely talented musicians and great arrangements, especially in the brass section.

Probably my favourite funk album! SO good. Never thought I'd enjoy the genre this much, particularly Unfunky UFO and Supergroova-etc.

Now THAT's what a call a goddamn ALBUM!!! I would rather listen to solely concept albums for the rest of my life. I'm sick of this boring mixtape shit where songs sound either vaguely related or just like they were stapled together so they could sell a stupid little album. A want a goddamn THEME a STORY a VIBE!!!!!

j'avais déjà P-funk dans mes titres likés, jamais écouté l'album, c'est pas déplaisant mais c'est un peu trop pour moi

the funk-o-meter hit its maximum by the first song. starting off this album a day strong with this one. this genre has the power to get you dancing no matter what mood you are in. mother funking great album! fav song: unfunky ufo

So funky it makes me want to handcuff a woman lolol. What a fun album.

Not a huge funk fan generally but this album is pretty awesome. Fat and dirty.

A legendary band and album. Seventies funk at its absolute peak. A great listen that just keeps finding new ways to get you grooving.

Funky. No songs that stuck in my head but I enjoyed grooving to it

Had never heard of it before, but nice funk sounds.

An iconic album for about a dozen reasons. George Clinton is an absolute legend and genius. He took the elements of like five different genres, blended them beautifully, and essentially created an entirely new one in the process. I know James Brown and Sly Stone were right there too, but something about George Clinton's vision of funk sounds cooler - like it literally came from outer space.

Objectively some of the coolest stuff ever recorded. George Clinton, the greatest Clinton.

A whole star for We Want the Funk alone

One of the most forward thinking albums ever. George, Bernie, Bootsy, Maceo = Geniuses Give up the funk is one of my favorite songs ever, flanked by an albums worth of exploration and curiosity in the soul and funk outer space. If the album was slightly longer with an additional banger it would be a perfect album, maybe the closer.

What the funk!?!

Me gustó mucho el feeling del álbum, te hace sentir esa vibra de la época si ser empalagador. Solo creo que en ocasiones se siente un poco repetitivo pero volvería a escucharlo

It's a very energetic funk album; I liked most of the songs, but there were one or two where the vocals and the backing track didn't quite mesh. But it definitely transports you to a fun, nostalgic past.

Fun album. Listening to this made me think about other albums where singers have alter egos. On the same space vibe I thought about David Bowie and Janelle Monae. Favorite songs: P-Funk, Mothership Connection, Give Up The Funk

rock o blues?? muy bueno

It’s pretty cool.

Fantastically funky, a pretty good funkin' album.

Amazing, really good a great way to get back into funk. The musicians are fantastic.

FUNKY AS FUCK

This album was so fun and I was bopping along to every track. I feel like this would be more fun to hear live, and each song was a couple minutes longer than I wanted (which again, longer songs are more fun live)

Groove, such a vibe dream. A journey with a whole energetic and pleasant ride.

What I went in expecting, still thoroughly enjoyed it

P-Funk, baby!

Nothing to complain about here. Funky fun. Favorite Songs: Mothership Connection (Star Child)

Funky! Very good album. Glad to have been introduced.

Very 70’s funk!

Album 150. Mothership Connection (https://open.spotify.com/album/734MC4wQsfNWsg9HLTrUoN?si=PkcNObkuQCiU9_GlMjY_qQ) — Parliament (1975) I like this funk album and UFO theme. Maybe because I'm an alien. 4/5 Liked: — Mothership Connection (Star Child)

Give Up the Funk is one of the most recognizable songs of it's genre. George, Bootsy and all the PFunk all stars are hitting on all cylinders here.

So delicious, so funky. I love trailblazing nerds 🔥

Some of the best funk

Very good

A little funk is just what I needed to pull myself out of one. I couldn’t help but feel the joy with some head bopping and a little smirk on my face even when it seems like the world around me is a complete mess.

That was an essential álbum to understand the funky feeling

Surprised myself by liking this one. Had never heard of the artist and didn't do any research before playing, so didn't give myself the opportunity to decide I don't usually like funk. Listening to this feels like I'm mingling round a cocktail party in the 70s. Although I might not come back to it, it's cool. I particularly liked 'Handcuffs' for the vocal performance

Funky and fun, a great listen.

reminds me of my dad

Great band

lekker funky

Classic. Reminds me of my mom. Also just realized let me ride is a sample from this album which is awesome.

We like the funk, somewhat.

So groovy! The stank face was plastered on! This album will be played when I want to grooooove. Highlights: P-Funk (Wants To Get Funked Up) Unfunky UFO Handcuffs Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker)

I am enfunked.

Bootsy rules, but i prefer Bernard Edward's.

This was great. I really liked the vibes of this. Nice blend of jamming and good song writing.

Great music, great fun. This is so funky, so joyful. Wish I would have listened to this more in its day. But, I'm happy it popped up today. I've got to go back and explore their entire catalog. This is so much better than a lot of rock and roll I was listening to in 1975. But, I had my head stuck in jazz back in those days.

4.5 - Essential funk listening, making that duck bass quack.

Stuff like this is the reason I started this. Its certainly not what I'd ever have picked out to listen to. Absolutely loved it.

Classic 70's funk. Give up the funk is definitive of the genre.

Listening to this again reminded just how bizarre George Clinton / Parliament / Funkadelic was. This is great though. I definitely have to be in the mood, but it’s still fucking great.

Quite enjoyed the funk aspects of this album. Not what I’d usually listen to and not something I necessarily thought I’d like but was quite a pleasant listen the whole way through. Not in a rush to go back to it but a solid album

I got so funked up 4/5

Not my favorite Parliament album, but definitely enjoyed the funk.

funkiest thing i've ever heard

I've had the second to last song in my head for weeks because some dumbshit advert is using it at the moment, and I think listening to the whole album has exorcised it from my mind - wonderful!

Fun and Funky

I have never heard of Parliament before this album. It’s nice groovy music!

Mothership Connection Unfunky UFO Handcuffs Give Up the Funk

P-Funk Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication Handcuffs Give Up The Funk

consider me funked

Enjoyed this album more than I thought I would. Also, lots of beats here ended up The Chronic by Dre.

Doesn't wow me as much as the Funkadelic records I've listened to (from what I understand this was meant to be George Clinton's more commercial/safer name to release under?), but that isn't to say it's a bad album: it still grooves and it still brings the funk. Always a treat hearing the bass guitar and keyboards that get featured on these P-Funk albums.

Sometimes you listen to an album and immediately clock you've been listening to references to it for years. Well-deserved too. Favourite track: Give Up The Funk

8/10 Really enjoyable but I kinda wish it went all the way with the funkiness.

Total fun. Contagious fun.

Slappin the bass, man!

Super funky and very interesting to hear a lot of sampled pieces on the album used in today’s songs.

I'm not used to listening to funk music and it was a fresh surprise. I like funk all right, this álbum was so is is to listen to.

George Clinton is the king of funk. When I'm in the mood for funk this fits the bill. I can't even begin to imagine what it would have been like hearing this for the first time back in the day. The production value is through the roof, and the overall composition is kind of mind bending with all the different melodies, counter melodies, harmonized vocals, and back rhythms.

𝘔𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 is pure funk spectacle. Led by George Clinton, Parliament turns deep grooves and thick basslines into something larger than life, wrapping their music in a playful sci-fi mythology that became central to the whole P-Funk universe. The rhythms are irresistible, the arrangements loose but confident, and the album never loses its sense of fun. At its core, though, the appeal is simple: it’s just incredibly funky. Few records capture the joy and swagger of 70s funk this effortlessly.

these guys cured my arthritis rheumatism and migraines. very fun way to start my day & fun way to continue it by getting sucked into the p-funk lore rabbithole. bootsy collins space bass goes fucking insane throughout

this was such a treat after days of duds. improved my day marginally, I genuinely had a blast listening to this I can't think of a single song that wasn't great

Gran funky

4/5. Loved the bass work, lyrics, vibe, very enjoyable. Some songs on the latter half did last a bit longer than I felt necessary.

Basically an attempt to fit as many styles, genres and instruments as possible into 7 songs. Super fun. Didn't enjoy the final song "Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples" as much as the rest. Just a great culmination of funk, R&B, and rock.

This was really fun! Really funky, groovy, just a chill vibe, I like it!

Me gustó, es entretenido y buena banda sonora para la vida cotidiana.

Legendary! Fun! Amazing! Funky!

we do want the funk

I love Parliament's funk vibe. It's always a blast to listen to, and the iconic "Give Up the Funk" is a standout track

Funk you up!

Funky, so funky! Danced around to this while sorting my laundry. A little repetitive in places.

Is anyone having more fun than these guys? These are irresistible grooves that develop and give you time to ride for a while, but they are still tight enough that I was surprised the first time the album ended. Just an all around good time.

Mothership Connection is a gem. There are so many P-Funk albums, and at some point, I have a hard time telling one from another. But if I needed to point to a perfect entry point, it'd be this one. PSA: If you haven't had the pleasure of seeing them live, make it a top concert-going priority. George Clinton probably doesn't have much time left, and they are truly magical live. Or maybe he's immortal. There would be worse choices for a Highlander.

Not my cup of tea hut I do like the efoort put into the production of the music

I was starting to think that listening to so much music was having the effect that everything sounded the same and nothing was cutting through. Then this album turned up. I like funk. It wakes up something in me, switches on my ears at the same time as makes my muscles twitch and bones sway. Loads of space in this mix. (Head phones). Backing singers whisper in my ears as pianist somewhere back in the corner there and saxophonist under a street light somewhere. I’m finding the washy chords in the keys a bit distracting. Sometimes feels like two albums playing at once. Nice though 4 because it was a relief to be reminded I do actually like music (lots of albums last week we’re ‘meh’) and I would listen to this again and seek out other recordings by the band. Number tracks: 7 Fave track:4: Supergroovalisticproifunkstication (The Bumps Bump). Short list: P-Funk (wants to get Funked Up), Handcffs.

This one of the pinnacles of Funk.

This one was a lot of fun. There were some moments where it got too repetitive, even on the songs I enjoyed the most, but overall it was a good time. Liked the weird alien theme too. Fav song: Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker) - also really liked P. Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up) Least fav: Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples

I like the funkiness of it but some songs do go on for a while. If this was playing in the conversation pit though I wouldn’t turn it off. Specific rating - 4.1 Fav song - we want the funk Least fav - supergroovalisticprosifunkistication

Not a huge fan of the talking in the songs and they can get a bit repetitive but overall very very fun album. Made me want to dance- but I think my office mates would find that a tad strange so I stuck to head nodding and a tiny bit of shoulder wiggling. Favourite song: Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker) Least: Night Of The Thumpasorus Peoples

George Clinton and the gang put together this album during the funk era, just before disco entered the scene. Most disco music used the beats and percussion style found on this record. Future hip hop artists sampled this album. There weren’t quite enough great tracks on the album to give it the highest rating, however.

i think I’ve found the funk in me, damn.

Very nice

Funkadelic mentioned

This was a fun one

p-funk. love it. maceo and fred on the horns. great addition.

Interesting listen. Really enjoyed the melody and instrumentation, great feel to it. However, the lyrics kind of let it down with a lot of repetition and not a lot of depth. Classic 70s though and very solid

They want the funk! Give it to them! I enjoyed the funk.

👽👽👽👽👽👽

Maybe not as solid all the way through as other entries, but still a ton of fun.

Parliament is the yin to Funkadelic's yang, less wild freeform funk and more party music. That doesn't keep them from making it weird as FUCK but in a funky way, though - Mothership Connection is just as silly and conceptual as some of the Funkadelic records. It just happens to be radio friendly and hit worthy.

Ofcourse its goated

I've always thought of Parliament as a funk Gong - I would LOVE to have heard a collaboration between George Clinton and Daevid Allen. I bought a second-hand vinyl copy of this record as a young teenager - my purchase was decided by the cover alone: how can a record with a cover like this NOT be great? (I bought 'Clones of Dr Funkenstein' on the same day, for the same reason). I think everyone needs a bit of Parliament in their lives. Like with Gong, listening on headphones while doing something completely mundane, such as your daily commute or the supermarket shopping, they provide you with a portal to another plane - this is joyously escapist music.

Good. Give up the funk is the best. Im not a funky fan but this one is really cool. I liked using sax and bass guitar. Its like 8/10

Groovy

Great Album. Got love the Funk!

Thick basslines, a freaky sex jam, a concept about being in space... Not bad.

This is a great funky dance party with cool alien sounds. I know that Parliament is supposed to be the more commercial side of P-Funk but you can’t say it’s pandering or any less inventive, just maybe shies away from some of the darker themes in Funkadelic. Anyway great album. I might be biased but it feels like the public perception kind of forgot funk or underrates it and it’s a crime. Anyway four stars.

An immaculate funk album that really just has the right kind of “flow” to it.

I had Funkadelic's ‘One Nation Under a Groove’ a few weeks ago, and it’s hard not to compare the two albums given the bands’ massively overlapping memberships. Overall, I do prefer ‘One Nation’, but this is still a classic piece of mid-70s funk. Also like that album, it’s pretty funny as well as funky; it's largely a concept album about extraterrestrial funk, and I enjoy that immensely. The three tracks on side one were my standouts, but it's all good. Would rate 3.5 if I could, but I'll round up to 4, for the album cover if nothing else.

Yeah that was a blast. Love a bit of 70s funk and this just felt quintessential 70s funk. Great stuff!

Funk me, this is really funking good.

Honestly pretty fun. Feel like j recognise a song.

Enjoyed this. Pristine production, great playing, loads of hooks, fun vibe. Being brutally honest I wanted to love it but I only like it - tried first time on headphones during commute and it didn't hit. On speakers at home doing chores worked better. Rollercoaster of Love is undeniable. Others can be a tad repetitive if sitting and actively listening. Think I can get into it over time.

Really smooth, I enjoyed it front to back. I've seen Parliament live and enjoyed them a lot, but I think this is my favorite album of theirs that I've heard.

pretty cool sound

Too funky for its own good

*Great funk album!

very groovy

More of a 3.5. Carried by bootsy Collins and Give Up the Funk

Funk funk funk funk funk we love funk in this household it’s a classic

Hard to resist the funk

A bunch of fun, upbeat funk jams. I think all of the songs are a bit too long and the meta commentary isn't really my thing though. Still, a very enjoyable listen.

Delightfully funky spaceship themed concept album from the Parliament-Funkadelic crew. Give Up The Funk is the standout, but there are a lot of other juicier funk numbers on this album, with solid bass lines and bright horns. Probably a very strong or just about a four.

Old school funk isn’t really my style, but it was worth a listen, especially since I remember seeing this album’s poster in every music store back in the day. A lot of elements from this album sounded familiar, thanks to how much hip hop and dance music have sampled it. Hearing those samples brought a wave of nostalgia, taking me back to my early teens in the 90s, vibing to DJ mixtapes.

Good times. Spotted a few riffs that have subsequently been sampled by Snoop Dogg. Fun album, the chatter was a bit much but it was a different era I guess. Felt like I was in the club with them.

It is a very funny funky album to mess around with, honestly i think that it is one of the best albums of the band, even tho i've never heard therest of their albums, it sometimes gets repetitive but it is enjoyable

The album starts with a very fun, inviting, and funky song in P-Funk. Right off the bat I can tell this album is gonna be a fun listen. Super funky and Vibey 70’s music that will have people dancing, grooving, and partying all night. Handcuffs might be the best song on here. Great sound. I recognize Give up the funk from movies and the radio. Very popular. It’s interesting to see how different the “dance” and “party” music is from the 70’s to present day. The rock aspect mixed with the funky jazz blends so smoothly together. This project is one wild party. A true example of the funky 70’s.

Groove-tastic

Some very solid funk.

Pretty funky

Apologies to the Parliament for the low effort review but this was fun!

What strikes me most about this album is how much I enjoyed the smoothness of its production. It has instruments coming in at all times, but nothing ever overwhelms the core, the focus, the funk.

If I’ve learnt anything from this project, it’s that I quite like funk Fav songs: Unfunky UFO, Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off that Sucker)

I somehow made it to work on empty. My car is purely fueled by funk

A true classic. Fantastic funk.

A funk classic. The only thing keeping this from being a 5-star album was the final track. "Night of the Thumpasorus People", while being an incredible title, was the one song that kind of droned on (though it was nowhere near the longest track) and lost my interest.

This band is so funky and tight. They don't mind having fun and being funny. And funky, of course.

Yeah, really enjoyed!

An album to get you GOING. Yes it’s the funk the funk is here get the funk we need the funk you’ve gotta have that funk we’ve got it, it’s the funk. 4.5/5.0 Best Song: Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication Best Song:

I know the mothership song from gta v. I love it! I love this album it creates a cozy and chill ambient. I just think the cover art is kinda off :/. I like it in a 4/5 stars way! There ain't much more to talk about it since the music is so repetetiv.

Funk tastic.

Very funky, very fun Favorite Song: Unfunky UFO

Unrelenting funk! Great vibe! A lack of “songs” maybe. Can’t just put one on, you have to listen to the full album.

This album the BOMB!! DIG!!!!!

Zarąbisty funk. Mega buja, jest bardzo pozytywny, ten kosmiczny koncept całej płyty naprawdę przypadł mi do gustu. Przyjemnie się tego słuchało. Chętnie wrócę.

Really glooped my shmorp. Faves: Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker), Night Of The Thumpasaurus Peoples

Funk... I like the sound of funk and the vibe. Not sure how often I would listen, but definitely one to boost your mood. Bouncy, rhythm, cool.

The first time I ever heard 'Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker)' was in 2006 on a Honda Odyssey commercial. The van is back!

Ow, we want the funk Give up the funk Ow, we need the funk We gotta have that funk

felicidad es el ingrediente principal de este album. if you hear any noice its just me and the boys hitting that (groovin’) te quedas duro al principio de incrédula, porque hace un montón no escuchas buena música y finalmente te encontras con esta masterpiece.

realllllyy cool! different to anything i’ve listened to before in a really cool way

Other than Give Up The Funk I was completely unfamiliar with this since it’s a genre I don’t really listen to much. I had a great time with this and enjoyed every song. Such a fun vibe!!!

Good funk album. Enjoyed listening.

I knew one song but it was all really chilled
