Reviews (page 6 of 14)

I knew one song but it was all really chilled

Love it! already added to my playlist

Commenting while listening....THOROUGHLY enjoying. I really love when albums exist as albums rather than a collection of disjointed singles. Bring back concept albums !!!!!!! Also this has me reflecting on how much fun long songs can be. There is currently an epidemic of <3 minute songs. A 7+ minute song is so beautiful.......maybe my attention span will be fixed Listening one headphone bc at work....will need to do another 2 headphone or speaker listen at some point also.... This is an album that makes me excited about music again :) Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication !!!! Was just talking ab how I want to isolate specific songs in my reviews and comments but with how collective this album is I don't think I will today lolol Anyways, on my second maybe third listen? this is very fun and cool and influential and i am really rocking w it :) bye bye

a very nice, groovy sound i am not used to have to say it does get slightly repetitive, even though it doesn't loose the grooviness. just not really suitable for listening while sitting down and not moving

I was always more a Funkadelic than a Parliament guy but this is a super fun record. Some of their most classic tracks

Very funky stuff. Haven't listen to a record like that in a long time.

super funky. great driving music, and a couple of staples in here that everyone should know.

Very funky n cool

Really good energy, thoroughly enjoyed the funk

Long songs. 6+ minutes. Amazing vocals. Very funky. Very repetitive in lyrics. Instrumentals making my soul ascend

Groovy, smooth sweet vocals, something to have on when you want to relax or dance

Funky!

New to me except for the single. Great! 7 tracks that are long enough to feel the funk. 1. P. Funk (Wants To Get Funked Up) 2. Unfunky UFO 3. Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker)

Jesus you can hear the influences on this one! OutKast and Thundercat took a lot from this (not in a bad way though). I'm feeling the funk on this one. Loads of fun

Stupid track names usually guarantee stupid music. With stupid lyrics, of course. The opening tracks contains a ton of gems, including "Top of the Chocolate Milky Way, 500,000 kilowatts of P-Funk power / So kick back, dig, while we do it to you in your eardrums". The trouble, of course, is that the actual funk element gets a little lost in translation. The guy's rapping(?) so much about funk that there remains little room to legitimately show love to the genre. Not much in the way of jangly guitars, twangy dynamic bass playing, a bit lacking in the percussion department... you get the picture. The main highlights are all the main and backing vocal lines – at least, the non-rapping parts – which save P-Funk from being a flop of an opener. (The last minute is a huge exception, though. Now *that's* what I call funk.) The next/title track is better, on account of being much busier and more undeniably head-bopping. Love the synth tone here. The synth sound gets even niftier in Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication, which also has the benefit of a fun bassline and a feature by one of those doohickeys you spin around at ice hockey games. And Handcuffs... dang, that hook. "Do I have to put my handcuffs on you, mama?" The verses are cool too. Listen to how excited Clinton is to deliver those lyrics, especially that final verse line: "That's why I can ask you and not even fee-eeeeel ashamed". Unsurprisingly, the track with the most earwormy melody – Give Up The Funk – is also the most popular on the album. To be fair, it's very catchy and singable. Finally, Night Of The Thumpasorus Peoples has exactly the bass tone I was looking for earlier, accompanied by a bacteria-music-sounding synth tone. (It kind of reminds me of farting in a pool of mud. Apologies.) 4/5 Key tracks: Mothership Connection, Handcuffs, Give Up The Funk

Funk / Funk

"Give up the Funk" has a special place in my heart, lol. In general I think there's something about Parliament's style that doesn't entirely work for me - not that I don't appreciate it, it's just not something I'd listen to often. I dunno, just maybe with all the group vocals and stuff it's a lot going on for me at once. Perfectly solid album, nice and funky. Sweet bass and keyboards.

Funkadelic

A Funking good listen.

Funktacular

funky and fun

What a fun fun album! I discovered thatbInlove funk with this project, the groove is undeniable and the lyrics are from the outer space. 38 minutes of fun! 4/5

So fun! So funky! Went down real smooth

Very good and chill album

G funk

Good but sounds like a single song

Uno de los discos funk más perfectos que existen la verdad. Hitazos tras hitazo

The sound strongly reminded me of some tracks from I Robot by The Alan Parsons Project. But Mothership dates from 1975, whereas I Robot was released in 1977. In truth, this is an unfair comparison. As much as I love the Alan Parsons record, its funk feels far too aseptic when compared to Mothership—which makes perfect sense, since it is, at its core, a “robotized” album. Although Mothership is also futuristic, it is not robot science fiction. It is, quite literally, a spaceship made of musicians from the 1970s. It overflows with life and performance in every possible sense. These are musicians who know how to blend swing, funk, humor, technique, precision, surrealism, dance, strength, and delicacy. A great way to begin listening to the 1001 Albums.

Very fun to listen to,one of my fave songs is Handcuffs:))))

Way more fun that anticipated, I didn’t know I like funk

This is the height of FUNK. SuperFUNK

i’ve listened to this bf for class once!

Classic funk album with interesting elements of intergalactic/alien sound effects. We want the funk, gott have the funk.

Uniquely funky. Night of the Thumpasorus ❤️

Ummm, jaja. Ikke helt for mæ det her, nei.

First of all whoever had gas during "Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples" has got the most talented ass in the whole group. Honestly I liked this quite a bit, especially the three singles "P. Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up", "Mothership Connection (Star Child)" and of course the Parliament magnum opus, "Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)". Most of the other tracks do pretty well to support the album, but not as note worthy. "Handcuffs" was the only track on the album that really didn't do much for me. It lacked that nasty groove that dives the rest of the album. High four. (8.75) ★★★★

I don't like funk much, but this is the best funk album I have heard so far. 4 stars

I dug this album, even though I rarely listen to Parliament. I'll make a note to play more.

Woo, Parliament! - this record is fun. I decided to listen to it while doing some weights and crunches and such but ended up mostly dancing instead. Lyrics to "Handcuffs" didn't age particularly well, but otherwise there's not a dull moment on this record.

fire flames i want the p-funk (pelly funk)

It's cool, it's funky, I like to dance. Simply good stuff right through.

Electric spulwith some amazing pieces - Should listen again

This is amazing! I wasn't ready for this level of funkiness!

it s probably a 3 but i listened to it while having the most perfect study/thesis writing sesh so its a 4 for me

Interplanetary funk. Playing with the listener as much as the music. Probably 4.5 if I could give halves

An absolute classic

can't believe it took me so long to check this out since this is obviously my shit i mean STOP PLEASE. ANY MORE FUNK AND I OVERDOSE. I CAN'T TAKE ANY MORE. PLEASE... PLEASE. WRAAAAAAAAAUGHGHHGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! deserves to be one of the 1001? you betcha + it wouldn't hurt to throw another one in for good measure

Not for me but neat

Super upbeat and funky. Fun album to listen to!

We're approaching criminal levels of funk😎

very funky great for dancing.

This is some great funk. It can get very repetitive at times, but not annoying. This album is a party. The last song was pretty bad though. Overall, really fun and really good album.

Oh I love this album!!! 70s FUNK hell yaaaa Gonna get funked up. It was a funky Monday. Handcuffs is kinda weird tho

Now this is some FUNK. This is the sort of album you've been hearing all your life without knowing it.

Love this makes me happy

Anyone who doesn't like this has dodgy wiring

God DAMN this is funky. What else are we to expect from the fabulous Parliament? What innovative and creative music to be created during this era. Battling with the likes of disco, this record truly set itself apart and still brings a wealth of harmonic diversity, even to this day. The instruments, singing, sequencing, production, all of it, so unique. Plenty of inspiration and influence taken from this record for other more recent artists (thinking Dr. Dre and other west coast hip hop artists). This is a great one.

I discovered Parliament as a child by watching the movie PCU. So like, funk wasn't an integral part of my childhood. But I learned to play bass as a teenager and loved being exposed to funk. Parliament is like the band in the genre that I would recommend to most people looking for something new to listen to.

i need the funk

Funky ass shit

get funked from outer space

Inte ens lyssnat klart men en SOLKLAR 4, så jäkla svängigt. Det här är min sorts funk!

Fun. Bit of talking at the start could’ve been omitted. But fun feel good album

This really holds up. It’s hard to beat George Clinton and MACEO. FOUR STARS

Fun album. Saturated with funk.

This deserves a good sound system. I gave it a morning listen on my cellphone speakers and it was a pretty good experience, if not somewhat average. Play this on a Bose system and we've got a more impressive scope of the talents. What a sexy set of bass lines, what excellent funk. Love when Bootsy's vocals slide by, or when the sci-fi interreacts with your experience. I'd love to have this record in my collection. 4.3/5

Hell yeah some proper funk. One of the coolest voices out there, with some good horns to boot. Very fun listen, will return!

Greta funk album

This was a lot of fun. I'm never generally impressed by a fake radio broadcast in an album, people do it all the time and it can sod off. DJs are annoying. I listen to albums rather than the radio to avoid them. But other than that this is pretty stellar. Very funky (as you'd expect) and enjoyable.

Make my funk the P-Funk. This album is just cool from beginning to end. Favorites: P-Funk, Give Up the Funk Would I listen to it again: Yes

Pretty fun

funky as hell

If I'm going to listen to Funk, it's going to be Parliament / Funkadelic. This was great fun and sexy, I knew a couple of tracks but first time hearing. Thanks 1001

Funkadelic good! But a little repetitive.

4. Only 1 hit that I know but still 70s funk hits hard regardless

A good time... they had me at "the Chocolate Milky Way." Probably my favorite funk album so far; it has a playfulness that I think pairs extremely well with the genre. You could criticize some of the tracks for being fairly repetitive but that didn't really bother me here. Highlights: "Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)" is a juggernaut, and I liked "P. Funk" as well.

Fun & funky; great for a party.

It’s just so fresh and modern even by current standards. The music, voice effects, keyboards/synths, slang - everything about this album is fun, funky and unique.

I didn’t realize just how much Parliament walked so 90s rap could run.

Fun and funky. Hard not to dance the whole time it was on while cleaning my house. 8/10 Favorite tracks-“Mothership Connection” “Supergroove….” “Give Up the Funk”

So good. Funk is goood. Girks did not like and found lyrics annoyingly repetitive.

Pretty funky! Kind of silly at points but still pretty enjotable listen

Fun funk with a great album intro

Great. Holds up. Weird but awesome. Fun listen.

What a funktastic experience, a very accessible album for anyone trying to get into the genre, I did enjoy it quite a lot but the age old of problem of songs overstaying their welcome by being a little too long at times when the main song development was over, still a very good album

Great vibe

Fun and funky

This may be the grooviest album on the whole list. Definitely felt a little played out at times (especially the first track), but I'd get over it by the time the next song came on.

One time at the Cubby Bear, I hugged Bootsy and his belt buckle knocked off my glasses.

Funky as. Very fun love the vibes. Can be repetitive but the keys send me. Can't give a 5 because I know parliament do better but this is a classic funk for me

This shit is so funky. I liked Handcuffs the most so far.

this is incredibly cool. disco is so back.

Incredible funk album. Every song but Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples is great. Songs can stretch on a little.

3.5 stars. Fun over-the-top funk. Some annoying high pitched whines in "Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication" and 'stretching' sound in "Night Of The Thumpasorus Peoples" but otherwise liked this. Standout is the super catchy hit "Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)", the title track is good as well

super fun and groovy. we want the funk!!!!

Love the intro, and it didn't let up from there. Funky fun.

The album have songs with really good vibes that made me automatically dance, loved the 70's "space eletro pop", whatever what these songs are supposed to be.

Another P-Funk album is always a win for me. There’s really nothing to add beyond that - it’s pure intergalactic funk perfection. What’s wild is how it dropped during a turbulent time in the ‘70s and still managed to transcend it all, becoming a timeless, joyful, cosmic classic. And at the heart of it all? Bootsy Collins, laying down some of the funkiest basslines ever recorded. His grooves don’t just sit in the pocket; they define the pocket. Combined with George Clinton’s wild imagination and space-age vision, Mothership Connection feels less like an album and more like a transmission from another planet. Funk, freedom, and pure attitude from start to finish.

I like it!!

Funkadelic from way out. Cosmic grooves coming to you from the Mothership. The funkiest funk that ever did funk.

This album is a party and if they didn’t have fun making it, they did a great job at faking it. Their funk has a cool factor that’s hard not to love. I liked grooving to this.

Better than Coldplay

Well they definitely did it to my ear holes…. In 3D. Such a wild ride and honestly quite enjoyed my intergalactic funkalicious uncut p funk journey.

Good funk.

Favs: Mothership Connection, Give Up The Funk

Funk at its finest

Now this is more like it! Juxtaposed to the Sly & the Family Stone album yesterday, this album is filled with way more emotion, stronger and more varied instrumentation, and all and all more fun. Enjoyed it a lot- hard not to feel the rhythm when you have this on. Overall- very fun. 3.5 to 4 / 5

FUNKAY

This sounds like a group of friends just hanging out, having a great time, and playing music. In this instance, they're in a UFO flying around space inviting others to join the party. They're running on all cylinders of join as they cruise through the galaxies of funk. Every instrument is carrying it's weight. The slimy bass lines are slapping. The horn section is bringing the noise. Every synthesizer is crying sweet tears. It's music that puts some stank on your face. I'm only docking half a point because on the final track, there's an instrument throughout that can only be described as sounding like a wet fart. It was distracting and kind of unpleasant. 4.5 Stars

the funk, the whole funk, and nothing but the funk

Feel-good music en vena.

Funky indeed

114/1001 Parliament - Mothership Connection Heard before? ✅ Revisit? ✅ George Clinton makes the most fun records. Over the top in the best way possible. Every time I play it, I always have a great time.

Funky and made me want to dance!

This one seems like it was pretty influential.

This is weird, but GOOD weird. It’s a complete vibe. While this isn’t music I’m always in the mood for, I recognize how this album influenced many artists I do love to listen to.

Le funk c'est correct, sans plus. Mais ici ça groove pas mal, les passes de synth sont dignes de Herbie Hancock.

- the concept of the album and the execution were very good - probably the closest I will ever get to funk Likes: - the themes and idea behind the album - all the different references and unique moments Dislikes: - can't get past how absolutely sexist 'handcuffs' is - the song literally say: "If I have to keep you barefoot and pregnant/ oh to keep you here in my world"

Mal was anderes. Hat Spaß gemacht.

The full funk here, totally funktastic

Two all-time grooves, good vibes throughout

Whole lotta fun whole lotta funky

Como diría Marshall: El funk, todo el funk y nada más que el funk

pretty good

Phunk Phenomenal!

Great funk

🕺🛸

Godt funk.

Super fun!

Great album. I love this type of funk.

Heel vet, echt weer wat anders

The funk is indeed within me

Possibly the most accessible slice of P-Funk out there. As always however nothing else sounds like it and the combination of George Clinton and Bootsy Collins is the most expansive funk will ever sound, save for the addition of Eddie Hazel with Funkadelic. Favourite track: Handcuffs

We want the funk

Album 19/1001 This well and truly funked me the funk up! Ya dig? 🛸

Everyone got the funk when this album is on.

This album is a real hang out. Such good vibes. There is a certain simplicity to the groove throughout, but anything looks easy when a master is doing it. The MVPs on this album are Bootsy Collins holding down that backbone and Bernie Worrell adding the color with all the wild, spacey synth work. Of course, the vocals on top are like a party aboard a spaceship. It's iconic in its Afrofuturism and unapologetic weirdness and freedom. It's not perfect, some songs slog on after a while, perhaps it's better in an actual party setting or under the influence. But it's really a journey you can sink into and slow down with, more of an astral road trip where a schedule or destination is not a factor.

Great listen, a lot of tasty funk, and I'm always a sucker for space-y themes like the UFO motif used here

This album is cartoonishly funky. Like they are trying so hard to make everyone understand they are 100% about the funk. Don't get me wrong...it's good funk. My only complaint is that most of the tracks drag on and get repetitive before wrapping up. I get that you ride a nice groove for awhile but I prefer tighter funk compositions like what The Meters or Sly and the Family Stone bring. Also, I'm surely letting the fact that I saw P Funk perform well beyond their prime impact my opinion of this album. They were terrible.

we need the funk!! WE GOTTA HAVE THE FUNK!!!!!!!!!

Many recordings from the 70s have a certain cheesyness about them, and this one is no exception. If you can overlook that, this album is really enjoyable. I mean, how bad can music with Bootsy Collins on bass be? Apart from the single releases, I recommend "Unfunky UFO".

Loved it.

Good stuff! I love funk and the free spirited dance party rhythmic repetitiveness of it all. The album cover of the dude emerging from the UFO in platform shoes is joy. Although listening to this, I wish I could go back and change my ratings for Sly and The Family Stone and Marvin Gaye to five stars.

Great googly moogly!!! Funk at it's finest!

3.5 Never forget when me, my husband and brother-in-law got my MIL a Bootsy Collins Cameo birthday message lol

Better than the Funkadelic record from the same era.

Funkadeli, great album. Have been aware of this for a few months now but really enjoy the funky bass

Solid funk!

Ugh I just FUNKED all over the place

8/10. Entra como polla en culo, la verdad. Buen funkarro clásico, con su bajo con wah-wah todo el rato y sin parar el ritmo en ningún momento. Brutal.

Somehow lives up to its reputation, no matter how much it gets sampled, quoted, and overplayed.

Had a great dance after work! I adore funk, especially when it's done well. Iconic work, definitely.

Solid throw back!

this album got me HORNED UP! slappa da beyass Short and sweet funk odyssey, hard de beat

I had to go back and look at the release date for this, and was surprised to see 1975. Seems like a good sign for a timeless album.

Very fun, albeit repetitive. Fave Tracks: P. Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up), Give up the Funk, Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples 3.9/5

This is some very funky funk. Excellent party music, but songs drags on a bit for focused listening.

Pa solidan album, ima tu vrh stvari i često si ih pustimo 4/5, 8/10

The epitome of funk really enjoyed this one

Funk like this doesn't care if you're in the mood for it or not. You'll groove either way.

This is great! So much funk. Love it! It’s a 4, but could become a 5.

I think I am starting to like George Clinton. Definitely funky, but it seemed like a couple of tracks dragged on too long.

They brought the funk, and I was okay with that.

Bonne ambiance qui donne envie de danser

Groovy, dall'inizio alla fine

Zuhause, Heidenheim, Deutschland. Ganz goil.

Fun and funky

Really good funky album from pioneers of the genre parliament. 8/10 Favourite: Give Up the Funk Least Favourite: None

Let me ride, ass.

I'm not funky enough or cool enough for this.

I like this better than Steely Dan. It was more musically interesting. 4/5

This album is the funkiest, funker in funk town, funkhamptonshire. It's almost too funky for me. I love a bit of funk, but Mothership Connection starts to fall down the other side of the funk peak, stopping it from getting 5 stars. It's a 4 from me.

“Do I have to keep you barefoot and pregnant to keep you in my life?” nah this was fun

1. P-Funk (Wants To Get Funked Up) - I love funk music, this is a great beginning song to the album, it feels like it's properly introducing you to the album and setting the vibe for the whole album. Love it! 2. Mothership Connection (Star Child) - love this, good classic funk song, absolutely grooving along, added it to one of my playlists because it's so fun! 3. Unfunky UFO - ABSOLUTELY BANGER. love love love this, got me dancing along so fast! Added to my playlist! 4. (cba to type the full title bc it's so long) - less my style, but a good come down from the previous song which was so upbeat and hype! It's still groovy but less hyper. 5. Handcuffs - the lyrics are a bit weird tbh and kinda made me go '????' but it did get me dancing all the same, I was like dancing in a state of slight uncomfortable confusion. 6. Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker) - I did already have this song added to one of my playlists. Love it so much. Just a really good classic funk song, always gets me moving! 7. Night Of The Thumpasorus Peoples - a perfect song to end the album, works as a perfect outro song. Overall a very solid album, far more my taste, I really enjoyed it! :D

so funky, so groovy! 4 stars? 5?? some hits I was very familiar with

It's a vibe. I feel like I'm in a 70s TV show. If you want your funk uncut, you found it.

É um bom álbum de funk. Menos rock como o Funkadelic, e mais melódico, me pegou menos. Mas gostei de P-Funk(Wants To Get Funked Up), Unfunky UFO, Handcuffs e Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker)

delicia de groove, deus abençoe o funk

Sometimes I like funk, sometimes I don’t. Generally I haven’t a funking clue what the difference is between the good and the bad. This one I like. It seems less showboaty than other funk efforts, more focussed on the groove and song than general musical funkery and self pleasure. Probably a 3.5*, but I’m gonna go high today as it suited my mood clearly (and the kids quite liked it).

Overall, the album is not bad. A solid "4".

What the hell?! Parliament is the same band as Funkadelic?! I had no idea. This is pretty fantastic. The inventiveness and originally make the spot on the list but it also sounds great.

This is a tight album. Doesn't over stay for what it's giving. Great musicianship, great energy. My issue is I didn't get exposed to funk properly or something. Much of the funk I've heard gives me anxiety. It's like being in a crowded place. There is a lot going on and I can't pick what to focus on. There are so many parts to each song trying to get my attention. In the right mind and the right time I could at least zone out and dance to this, and that's something.

These funk albums are always fun. Goofy lyrics funky grooves nice to hear something not so serious. And the music is good. 4 stars.

“Mothership Connection” is a joyous, funny, and well crafted album, even if the narrative detours occasionally pull focus from the funky core. When Parliament lets the funk run free, the album really hits home. There were moments when I wanted the groove to simply carry on unimpeded, rather than pausing for the Mothership’s latest transmission. Yet when Parliament unleashes the full force of their funk, the results are delightful, the grooves are undeniable, and the rhythm section, anchored by the incomparable Bootsy Collins on bass, is simply electrifying. Bootsy’s lines "snap, crackle and pop", threading everything together. Overall a 4 star album. Would I listen to this album again? Yes. Would I buy this album? Yes, I might. 1- "P. Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up)"- When it funks, it funks! - 4.00 2- "Mothership Connection (Star Child)"- 4.00 3- "Unfunky UFO"- No mucking about here. Straight in with the beat. Wonderful. - 5.00 4- "Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication"- Nice vocals. Sly groove. - 4.00 5- "Handcuffs"- Slinky 😉 - 5.00 6- "Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)"- Funk a plenty. - 5.00 7- "Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples"- 4.00 Total - 31.00 Summary - 4.43

This was a fun(ky) listen. Not a genre I would normally listen to but I really enjoyed this.

Really good funk, loved it from start to finish, such a vibe. 4 stars

My God, the influence and impact of this thing... Dr. Dre's entire career could be reconstructed from the first three songs! "We Want the Funk?" Frat brothers and schoolchildren will be singing that for a thousand years! Few bands can be said to have invented a language, fewer still set an indelible template in less than an hour of recorded sound. The definition of funk, the ultimate party album. Deeply black, and sripping with cultural and historical significance. Full of love and bawdy good times, enigmatic, effervescent, hilarious. And the playing! How did they do that shit?

optional challenge: try to count the number of times the word "funk" is said in this album

Amazing album from George Clinton and his very talented musicians. Fun-kay. 4.5/5

Straight up funk, from the Mothership Connection. Unadulterated. So many classic rap samples in this, especially the West Coast G Funk stuff. I haven't heard many of George Clinton's albums, just the hits, so not sure where this sits in his discography relative to other albums. 4/5 because the best is great, but there are one or two fillers in a seven track album.

If you looked up "Parliament" in the dictionary you should find "maters of funk". Shame they didn't choose a less political name. Serious funk in this album, bad ass bass lines and groove. Being a fan of Dre's album "Chronic" I was pleased to hear a lot of the samples he took played in full. Very enjoyable.

As someone whose life was changed when The Chronic came out, I owe quite a debt to Parliament and this album in particular.

This was the album I did not know I needed to kick off my Friday. It is psychedelic, groovy, funky, and everything you would expect from a mid-70s funk and soul masterpiece. Parliament knows exactly how to lock into a groove and ride it until you cannot sit still. Every track is dripping with personality, swagger, and that larger-than-life energy that makes you feel like you have been invited aboard the mothership yourself. By the time it is over, you are fully in the zone and ready to get funked up. A perfect soundtrack for starting the weekend right.

funky I like

-already off to a good start with the intro. telling you to enjoy, listen, introductions. -good funk -the length of the tracks threw me off, but once i got swept into the groove it was great -love the percussion and overall love of funk shining through -would be great to listen to this at night, high, lava lamp in the background and warm lighting

Ain’t nothin but a party y’all

Quite fun, good funk music. Good to hear the originals of the redbone samples

I never would've thought a funk album with sci fi themes would work but damn, it does. This may not be Parliament's best work but it's good. Give Up the Funk is a classic song by itself and does a bit of lifting for this album, but it's still worth a listen for funk fans.

Possibly the funkiest album since Houmous & Chutney’s ‘Funk Me (Like A Lady (Of The Night))’ 4.1 3/7 Unfunky UFO

Really enjoyed this album so much so that I wonder how much more before I score something five.

Funkin’ good. Edit: (3->4) real funkin’ good.

Very cool

This album is a genre that I very rarely listen to, but I did enjoy it. I could see myself replaying this as background music, since a lot of songs were quite repetitive but viby. (8,5/10) Fav songs: All songs in this album were good, but there wasn't one that really stood out to me (yet). If I had to pick one maybe Unfunky UFO.

Cool Album with many "ah so that was sampled from here?" moments Ah yes, of course .... wouldn’t want you to forget it’s a funk album, so they kindly remind you every five seconds with the word 'funk'

Além disso, a voz do Clinton é algo à parte. Meu álbum favorito de funk ‘americano’ até agora. Até porque o funk que eu estou acostumado é outro.

Beautiful and funky!

Fun time, short, easy listening, gotta have the funk

Now we are talking, en svart skiva, kors i taket! En gungande fyra Lyssna också på Rick James - Spacey love, Funkadelic - One nation under a groove, Stonefunkers - No problem 94 - Non-believers, stand back

Kom igen katten! Det svänger ju! Kanske lite enformigt, men vad tusan, ett gott politiskt budskap bär upprepas. Give people what they want, when they want and they want it all the time!

Utomjordningarna från "The chocolate Milky way) har landat för att sprida p-funk. Afrofuturism och blaxploatation som svänger.

Oli hyvää kuunneltavaa ja oikeesti tosi nice👌

Fun funk album. The 70s must have been a great time. I'm convinced there's something wrong with anyone who doesn't like funk. How can you not groove to this?

Spaceship shaped like a Cadillac… What a concept… An album that asks important questions like “What if Captain Kirk was a pimp?”

Prior to this my only exposure to Parliament/Funkadelic was through the show Tales From The Tour Bus (HIGHLY recommend) and they were on the soundtrack to True Crime: Streets of LA. A wholly groovy album that doesn't take itself too seriously. Which is about what I expected from them. The talent on display here is unquestionable and you can tell that the band had a lot of fun making this. It is undoubtedly FUNKY, as the album itself lets the listener know many times. I enjoyed listening to this but only one of the songs really stands out to me is the second last track which I found myself rewinding and coming back to. Overall, this album is great but it lacks the juice to bring it to a 5 for me. Highlights: Unfunky UFO, Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)

Well, it's funk.

Classic funk

Rating (1-5): ✩✩✩✩ (Lower end) Higlighted songs: P-Funk, Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication, Give Up The Funk, Night of the Thumpasorus People This Album takes you to the Mothership Connection of the Glorbshittos (that's how I imagine it), there Lollipop Man will probe you with his Funk and make you groove to his alien P-Funk Gaga ga gooooga gooo ga goooo ga ggoooooga

This is really fun! I like it when artists don’t take themselves entirely seriously and just make cool music. It reminded me of Africa Bambaataa and the Soulsonic Force a lot. Seriously considering a 5, but I'm leaving it at a 4 for now. Favorite Track: Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)

It wouldn’t have been the 70’s without Parliament. Absolute best funk you can find.

Funky people

Go on, try to make me say something bad about P-Funk on a Friday. I’ll wait.

What a vibe

Funky!

give up the funk all time good song

I don't like funk. That is an established fact. And yet....I did not dislike this album. Did I just use a double negative?

so fun!! kind of short actually, i could've listened for longer. i love all the different voices that are used and how weird the whole thing is while still being very interesting and good musically. I like hearing this older example of afrofuturism in music that paved the way for some other weird music from more “recent” black artists that i love who also explored space and technology in their work (OutKast, Janelle Monae, etc). *Fav tracks: Unfunky UFO, Handcuffs, Give up the Funk*

Excelente canciones pero a ratos se siente redundante ,pondría varias canciones sueltas pero no el álbum entero de nuevo

Very satisfying listen

Do you think these guys want the funk? I think they made it unclear. Just kidding, this album is funky as all get out! I’ve only ever heard one album adjacent to this, that being Maggot Brain, which I’ll review at some point down the line, but this album and that one sound nothing like each other. While that album is more of funk rock, this album is pure, undiluted funk straight into your veins. Instead of just a regular album opening, we’ve got George Clinton playing a black radio DJ space pimp, if that even makes sense! I’m not going to mention ever musician in this review because so many of them played on this album, but all of them contributed in their own unique way to bringing the funk to this album. One of my favorite instrumental parts is the keyboard on Night of The Thumpasorus Peoples. The bass on this album is also incredibly groovy. I’d say the two standout tracks are the first two, P. Funk, and Mothership Connection, both incredibly funky tracks that are 7 and 6 minutes respectively. Overall, this album is definitely an epic funk album, and if you’re a fan of funk, get on The Mothership as fast as you can!

Funk at its finest

My first Parliament album, hypnotic and groovy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccvB00h6EnI

Definitely from another time. You can see all the character invention that occurs in cut scenes in 90s and 2000 rap. Think roots of OutKast

Just gotta love it.

This album is definitely groovy, I dig it. Don't know if I'll revisit it, but I thoroughly enjoyed listening through this one.

So many fantastic hooks here. A lot of artists can credit this group with significant influence on their careers. It still sounds fantastic 50 years(!?!) later. Hell yeah.

Always loved this album. I feels like one long jam in the studio.

A couple monster funk tunes. Some of the best ever. Probably a song or two away from a 5 for me.

Mmm love some disco hip hop jazz funk

Certainly funky. I found this very pleasantly groovy. Incredible bass playing and fat sound. Best track - Give up the Funk

Ow, we want the funk. Give up the funk. Ow, we need the funk. We gotta have that funk. Words to live by.

Not gonna lie, didn’t think I’d get through the whole album without noticing the time. Just caught myself vibing to the last track

start to finish, this one is amazing. “make my funk the p-funk, i wants to get funked up”

Pure brilliance. Constant groove. Didn't want it to end. Not surprising that practically every track was sampled as the basis of some classic 90s hip hop song or another.

найс, вайбово, звучит прикольно.

Fun, funny, futuristic (still somehow 50 years on), just fantastic. Unbeatable walking-around-with-headphones music. You're secretly the coolest person in the block. The profound influence on hip hop is obvious, with little Easter eggs of instantly recognizable samples and lyrics in almost every song that helped define later classics. But even outside of hip hop, I think there must have been some impact from this on new wave and indie rock, particularly that, for lack of a better phrase, shimmering cascade of synthesizer effect on songs like Give Up the Funk and Night of the Thumpasorous Peoples. Beautiful stuff.

What a party! I loved it. I was working while listening, so I’ll probably want to hear it again some time and may want to rerate.

hehe groovy

Excellent grooves, very funky. I won't say that I would listen to it every day, but in the right mood it is great, absolutely great

Excellent funk music. Like it!

Not a genre I am usually found listening to, but I really enjoyed the voyage this album took me on to outer space and back and beyond. Great stuff.

+1 for popularizing funk and classic bangers. But there's a lot of theatrics that waste space on this album.

Funk isn't my favorite, but this album had more than a few good songs. Give Up The Funk is a classic, but I also liked P-Funk, and Mothership Connection had some good parts.

Funk me up baby

What a fun album. That is all. Just pure funk and dance vibes.

Funk deluxe

Outstanding sounds, influential funk album

This album has my(now) funkalicious rump bouncing, and my hips all groovy. Possibly the best album to dance to ever. The only thing keeping this from the full five stars is the fact it's not diverse enough. Favorite Track: "Give Up The Funk(Tear The Roof Off The Sucker)".

Nice. Kind of fun and funky and I liked it a lot more than I typically do like these albums.

i liked it

me encantó mucho bugi de los 70!! muy xulo

Nothing but the funkiest

A lot of fun, will have to listen again

Brilliant.

Funky i like but not my music

I liked it, very funkalicious. Will check out more.

'I wants to get funked up.' Obviously the production and instrumentation is amazing. I liked the intro of 'P-Funk' where the concept of the broadcasting mothership is established. The listener is slapped senseless as soon as the beat first drops and the funk starts. Reminds me of when edibles were fun and not yet nightmarish. Where you are floating in space and give everything up to the music. What better hands to be in than afro-american astronauts broadcasting funk across the cosmos. 'Give Up The Funk' was also another highlight. But does it have depth? Some of the tracks are very enjoyable and it makes for a very enjoyable cosmic journey to be lost in. But it is also just lacking another side to it. Is there any emotional depth or it all just a good time? If there was more emotional exploration then it would be 5.

Love this album Listened to it loads Funky as shit Bass, keys and horns go so hard on this album Few songs seemed to go on for a minute or so too long It's just ace

Let's get funked up

Funk is the type of music that I enjoy when it happens to playing somewhere, but I just don't really feel the need to put it on for my own personal enjoyment. For me, it's dance/party music. I'd say there's three great tracks on this album and the rest is just kind of head-bobbing stuff.

Funkalicious

Let's get funkified! Pretty good, if you're into funk!

My god this is fun. Somebody call the fun police.

Tämähån oli raikasta. Funk pelittää kyllä

Hyvää, tyylipuhdasta funkkia! Kivoja soundeja ja grooveja!

Funktastic

That was so funky! Like Muppets From Space level of funkiness! Really pretty good, but I'm going with an overall 4.

Bel disco funky, qualcosa che manca in collezione. Da prendere.
