Reviews (page 7 of 14)

Funk Music is perhaps the best thing you can roll on a Friday. It is the easiest genre to listen to, and the day will be over so fast. The intergalactic brothers from the top of the Chocolate Milkyway are no exception. I believe every Funk album I’ve heard so far has gotten a 4 star rating, and this is no exception. It doesn’t do anything new or amazing, but man does it do Funk exceptionally well. “P-Funk” and “Give Up the Funk” are my favorite songs here. Special shoutout goes to the hilarious names of the songs, as well as the great and hilarious album art. Funky!!!!

A lot of fun(k)

Funky af, silly and fun and everything that makes for an enjoyable listen. Head was bopping the entire time. Not the greatest album of all time but definitely one of the most fun. Some exceptional Moog stuff on the last song from Bernie Worrell. Favourites - P. Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up), Mothership Connection (Star Child), Handcuffs, Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker), Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples

Fantastic. Groovy, silly at spots. The fart sound synthesizer and "ga ga goo ga" in the final track had me in tears. Don't know how this stacks up for me versus Maggot Brain, but I can't wait for more.

Extraordinarily cool and funky.

Great funk, very wierd, clearly influential. Great for more listens

Theeeeey want the funk.. so they made the funk.. I met one of these guys in Bologna once, interviewed him for my radio show he was the sweeeetest guy and now I can't remember his name !??!? not my go to but thank goodness they existed - 1 big party w Parliament and GC, bootsy and the other 59 collaborators that have contributed at some point

I love Parliament. Besides the obvious funk awesomeness, it's epically creative and humorous. I want to jump in my car and drive across the state, blaring it with the windows down.

Lots of really great music, the spoken word sections got a little tiresome after a while but overall an absolute bop

Are you feeling funky? Kinda? 4/5

Funky 👍 🪩

Low-key I was fuckin with it Groovy as hell 🕺🪩

this is actually really good

A funk classic, hard to hate 4.5*

My frustration with over long tracks is apparently significantly reduced if a track is sufficiently funky. I very much enjoyed it and will definitely listen to it again. Also, it's my favourite album cover so far, and its not even close. 4/5

This was a relief after the last week or two of albums I've had. That's saying something isn't it...? But I do want to get on the Funkship. Probably getting an extra star because of the last lot I've had.

Good instrumentals and vocal work, but overall a bit too repetitive for my tastes.

Fun album if you’re a fan of funk

Pretty enjoyable, crazy how many samples came from this album by later artists.

Great bass lines, horns, synth... I probably won't listen again, but enjoyed the funkadelic ride in space

it was good

Cmon man, it’s Parliament. It’s Funk personified. 4.5 stars.

Old school funk isn’t really my style, but it was worth a listen, especially since I remember seeing this album’s poster in every music store back in the day. A lot of elements from this album sounded familiar, thanks to how much hip hop and dance music have sampled it. Hearing those samples brought a wave of nostalgia, taking me back to my early teens in the 90s, vibing to DJ mixtapes.

Very funky smooth fun to listen to

I could see it growing on me. I like the influences you can hear that went on to dr Dre and g-funk. Some grooves reminded me of doobie Brothers, which is funny because of the reference to them-(I guess doobie brothers are funk?) Knew George Clinton from persona, but glad to listen and know who he is and what he contributed. Favorite tracks: Unfunky UFO Give up the Funk

I think the first few songs started feeling kind of repetitive, but i enjoyed the later songs a lot. It was fun, I'd enjoy it if I had it on while I was doing something else.

It was a nice funk listen. There is a lot going on. They probably get sampled all the time.

This shit jams....but it just needs a little something more - a little more zing. Side A is pretty tame, but Side B is incredible. How can you not get down to "Give Up The Funk"? If Side A was a little more funky this would be a 5 for sure....alas, I can only give it 4.5.

Very funky, very fun. A little repetitive for most of the songs (they just kept going).

Way better than the last Parliament album I listened to. Once George Clinton started to introduce different personalities into the music, I made the whole listening experience more enjoyable.

Dobra klasika, v te dobe revolucni.

love this one! 4/5 #musicsky #albumsky

Very enjoyable, 70s funk isn't a genre I've spent a lot of time in but I could see myself returning to this.

This album is a lot of fun, I bet it would have made for a good live show. Bootsy Collins holds down the low end with some extremely stanky bassmanship, the horns are v tasty. Some good synth representation on here as well. George Clinton is the right frontman but his antics get a little old after the first couple minutes of the first track for me. My one big complaint would be that there are some long-ass tracks on here. I guess if you dig yourself a big fat groove like that it can be a little hard to climb back out, but try for us, ya know? Nice short album though, doesn't overstay it's welcome Favs: P Funk before it wears out it's welcome Unfunky UFO Give up the funk Least favs: P Funk after it wears out it's welcome Thumpasorus Peoples (what's this? some kinda fart bass or something?)

Pretty hecking funky. Great album cover and song names

‘If you hear any noise, It’s just me and the boys’ Good vibes, bass sounds awesome throughout, as do the synths. Nice grooves, fun listen. Not usually the genre I’d listen to but I enjoyed this album! Unfunky UFO was my highlight of the album!

Funk intergaláctico afro-futurista. Técnicamente perfecto y muy influyente, además de divertidísimo. Amén hermano.

Good exposure to some funky groovy stuff

Nice funk, except for the first two songs where the "radio announcer" style MCing alkost made me qant to skip the tracks altogether

Lite repetetivt ibland, men jävlar vilken snygg musik. Vox och produktion är topp. 7/10

4/14/25. Fun album, straight up funk with a minor psychedelic twist. Parliament are legends in my eyes.

Give up the funk +1, funk and fun, bass

Super fun.

Can’t be unhappy listening to this!

Consider me suitably funked up. This was great for cycling on a sunny day 🙂

P-funk! 3.5/5

Funky funk be funkin

Good stuff. I didn’t realize I liked funk or maybe it’s just Parliament.

Have listened to this one before as my brother has it on vinyl. An absolutely stratospheric funk masterpiece. Definitely Parliament at their creative best.

With so much influenced from this album (including my favorite album of all time) I’m really disappointed in myself for not having listened to this previously. I knew the hits but had never cover to cover listened. I want to give it a 10 so badly but something in my mind is holding me back despite enjoying the album so much. This one is a solid 9 for me. A classic and influential, what more can you ask for from an artist? Favorite Songs: Mothership Connection (Star Child) / Give up the Funk (Tear the Roof Off the Sucker)

It's really hard to envision a world that hasn't already been shaped by George Clinton and his P-funk collective. While I don't think this is P-funk's highest high, it gets pretty damn close. I can't imagine what it was like listening to this in the 70s, particularly someone who hadn't listened to much funk to begin with. The sheer vibrancy and groove this album carries is remarkable. What I'd give to go back and sit in on a studio session. 8.25/10 Favorite Song: Mothership Connection

8/10 One of the most important funk albums ever. From the penultimate funk band around. My favorite fun fact about this band is that they’re the largest band in the RnR hall of fame, boasting 16 members. This album is very good to me but not great. It inspired later generations to take heed of the art form and make it their own. Favorite Song: Give Up the Funk

Honestly, what's not to like? 41 minutes of straight funk. However I was not a fan of the fart noises on Night Of The Thumpasorus People but other than that very good album. Top 3 Favorites: Give Up The Funk, Mothership Connection, and Unfunky UFO Top 1 Worst: Night Of The Thumpasorus People 3.50-3.75/5

give the people what they want

I don't know about ya'll, but I want my funk uncut. I want to get funked up.

Pious!

Blind album, know the artist, and the hit song. Hit song was the best on the album and it was a super cool album. Love their style and will always know the band as a staple for how much they have done. Personally I will lose brain cells if I listen to Funk all day sometimes so this gets a 4 from me.

Haven't listened to all of them but probably my favorite Parliament before it all starts to get a little too goofy and jam-bandy for me. I don't dig this as much as Funkadelic's Maggot Brain, but this is a fun as hell funky good time.

P-FUNKy what more is there to say?

Alongside other artifacts of humanity, this is one of the albums I'd pick to place inside a probe that gets launched deep into space in the hopes it's one day discovered by an alien civilization — and not just because of the cover or extraterrestrial theme (though maybe that helps). It's just strange and funky, it might make the aliens shake it, and it makes humanity sound queer and fun. More terrestrially, it's the sound of peak '70s Me Decade drug-induced hedonism freak flaggery, an album that would echo through so much hip hop decades later.

I already have this album in a fairly regular rotation. It took a long time for me to divorce my feelings about Funk from Hip Hop's G-Funk era, and the period ca. the late 90s and early 00s where white hippies were proclaiming a love for funk (I mean, the hippies weren't wrong, but those dudes were so corny it was off-putting). But I got there.

The first 2 intro songs are a bit slow/filler, but once it gets going, unstoppable.

It is funky.

Peak 70s funk. Lovely crisp sound and spacey instrumentals. Pleasant surprise when Give up the Funk turned up towards the end. Standout track: Mothership Connection (Star Child)

You can not go wrong with Parliament as a 1st suggestion. I'm completely grooving to this. Just listening with this stupid grin on my face like I'm seeing a long time friend that I've not seen in a long time. Good times!

Classic. Haven't listened to this particular album that much, not as much as Up for the Down Stroke, but of course it bangs

This was fun

Awesome sauce.

Probably my favorite funk album I've gotten so far (if you don't count Head Hunters). The production sounds really great here. High 4.

Goedenavond.

FUNKFUNKFUNKNGUKNBFUNK

Tell Bruno that THIS is smoother than a fresh jar of Skippy. It's funky buttery goodness.

YO THIS WAS GAS

In George Clinton's brain, Maggot Brain represents the left side and Mothership Connection represents the right.

I feel funkaliciouslyfunktastic just for having listened to it.

Really fun album.

Heard quite a few samples from this! Good introdution ti pfunk

P-Funk and Give up the Funk were highlights

The best funk sound of anyone else

I've never heard of Parliament before but wow. Holy funkaroni! This really assured me how I'm a funk girl - I love the vibes, I love the environment that this record creates and I love a cohesive album. George Clinton makes me float without ant psychedelics. Love a short album where every song is needed, important and makes sense. All are Faves so we will stick to the stellar sounds: - P-Funk (Lisa from the Simpsons was here) - Unfunky UFO - Handcuffs - Give Up The Funk Also the song titles are just absolutely divine. Fabulous album.

this album really does feel like it was dropped off on earth by some funky aliens, i looooove the bass in this record

I really liked the sound palette and the over all album was very good. Really enjoyed hearing where some amazing samples came from

Átti von á einhverju örlítið meira upptempó, en þetta er nú engu að síður ansi skemmtilegt.

The standard for funk.

I'm not even joking I had a migraine this morning and this made it better

These guys love funk. A few of the songs were about something other than that. Great live show doesn’t transfer completely here. Still a fun groover

Very groovy, makes me want to shake my butt

If you don’t like this, you can go funk yourself

Very funky. Mothership Connection and of course Give Up the Funk stand out the most. Really breezy, doesn’t even feel like 40 minutes.

It's Parliament, baby. They are nothing but love.

Just a great listen

Space Funk has never sounded so good. Steady drums, funky driving basslines, unbelievable horn sections, and groovy vocals, it’s hard not to bop your head to this one. The overarching theme essentially boils down to “black people go to space” and it somehow works exceptionally well. 4*

84/100.

A super tight, super fun surprise of an album. Tracks are all pretty great, the grooves are incredible, the vocals and lyrics are so energised and the galactic radio concept just brings a smile to my face. Wouldn’t say there are any particularly weak tracks, just that I wish there was a bit more of it! 4.5/5

PEE FUNK

Classic funk record, what's not to like?

otrolig funk. jag säger det igen, oterolig funk.

Tremendously funky and cool.

4.0 - Very Good

Very fun.

Oh man I remember listening to Parliament as a kid in the background and just thinking who is this and why do they sound like that?! But then I got older realized they were just trying to save the funk! Lol for reals though Old Gregg aside this was an awesome album and I really think they were for lack of a better term really getting into their groove on this album! This is a very good funk album by a great band of talented musicians

Like the funk

this crazy album. so good

Un funk très fluide, auquel la narration et le concept ne font pas obstacle. J'aime beaucoup les voix, qui ont du coffre.

Funktastic

These guys say Funk more times per song than Imagine Dragons says Thunder. But pretty good funk music.

Best iteration of Parliament to date. Repeatedly thought to myself that Dre and Snoop owe a fare bigger debt to George Clinton than anyone realizes. Classic.

Been liking the funk albums. Didn’t blow me away, but solid and enjoyable. Made doing my taxes today much more bearable

to be added not much to critique, the album has great tunes, it's groovy, the instrumental pallete is rich. spoken vocals are not really my thing and also funk in general, but I can't ignore the craftsmanship here. solid 8

Track 1 - dug it Track 2 - decent Track 3 - funky and moving Track 4 - cool vibe and picked up as the tune progressed Track 5 - head bopper and head shaker Track 6 - killer track - simply slays Track 7 - little different with the kazoo/fart sounds - still a head bopper

P-Funk (Wants To Get Funked Up) - 4/5 Mothership Connection (Star Child) - 3/5 Unfunky UFO - 4/5 Supergroovalisticprosifunktication (The Bumps Bump) - 4/5 (yes i typed that WHOLE fucking title) Handcuffs - 4/5 Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker) - 5/5 Night Of The Thumpasorus Peoples - 3/5 Average score: 3.8/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ solid funk, nuff said

I genuinely enjoyed this short maxi album. It's p-funk. It's on the label. It does it's job admirably.

Funky indeed, very fun

Funkaliscious!

I know this artist, really never listened to much of their stuff though I do know what type of music and vibe they bring. I dig it! This is so good. So funky and such a great vibe!

Funk is so much fun, reading more about how important Parliament and Funkadelic were is super eye opening to what would otherwise just be a super groovy and fun album to me

Nice funk, although not exactly my jam (sometimes it can be too much). 6/10

Give up the funk you punk! OG funk s dobrom produkcijom (pogotovo bubnjevima na predzadnjoj pjesmi). Tematski povezan, instrumentalno zanimljiv. Jedino mi je zao sto nisu bili vokali malo zastupljeniji u nekim pjesmama. Sve u svemu solidan album. Fav tracks: Unfunky UFO, Handcuffs, Give up the funk (zbog bubnjeva). 7/10 = 4

Top 3: Handcuffs Give up the Funk Night Of The Thumpasorus People

Had to go grab my sunglasses to listen to this indoors. I was not expecting to like this as much as I did but the combination of funky beats along with horns from guys that played with James Brown, the pure sound on this album had me dancing around my apartment. As someone who appreciates an album listened to from top to bottom, I appreciate the “story” aspect to the album itself. While the lyrics seem like supplement to the musicians, it was the music itself that held my attention and enjoyment. Heard before: Give Up The Funk Favorite: Give Up The Funk Least: supergroovalistic (etc.) Sleeper: Mothership Connection

like this 4/5

A funky little treat

That will knock some Funk into ya

Well this is more like it. 4?

masan funk

it's a fucked up album -- No, I mean, "Funked up". terrible pun, i know. the fact that my winter holiday has just started makes this album more enjoyable. because everybody has this experience of being too relaxed after the school year finishes. And I was just super relaxed, bobbing my head with the strong beat, it feels somehow like a drug. what an awesome rhythm section. what an energetic vocalist George Clinton is. And that whole damn awesome guitar and horns. I haven't had any type of funk music related experience that can match this since I danced to "Uptown Funk" in the school KTV night. It makes me become the chill guy. 4/5

P-Funk: I like the funky instruments and the hook, but I think the talking is a bit weird and it goes on for way too long. 6.5/10 Mothership Connection: The talking segments are kinda weird, but I like the rest of it. Also a bit long. 8.25/10 Unfunky UFO: The production is really good, and there are less (or none) spoken word sections. Super groovy. 8.75/10 Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication: Some weirdass percussion instruments take up a good portion of the song (i am pretty damn sure that i heard a vibraslap for like half of it). Despite that, this is insanely groovy (outside of the vibraslap). 7/10 Handcuffs: I want to have a child with the production. Super funky, super groovy, super good. I guess some lyrics are kinda weird. 9.5/10 Give Up The Funk: I don't know how, but this is a big step up from Handcuffs. I guess it drags on a bit?????? 9.8/10 Night Of The Thumpasorus Peoples: What are these diarrhea noises. Also, did they put like, autotune on a trumpet 2/3s of the way through? The production is great outside of that, but this is not how this album should end. 5/10 OVERALL: Every song ends with a fade out, something I can handle but find a bit annoying. This is really damn funky, and I love it. Most of these songs are absolutely incredible, but P-Funk and Thumpasorus are pretty weak compared to everything else on this. SONG AVG: 7.8/10 PERSONAL RATING: 8.25/10

Fun, true funk

Funky!

I never go out of my way to listen to funk, but I always really enjoy it. This was really fun. 4.

This album leveled up my funk game. Personal enjoyment: 4/5 Relevance to this list: 5/5

Bara give up the funk drar ju upp som tusan. I övrigt bra funk!

För sin tid progressiv funk, mycket klassisk funk i grunden men med vissa "utsvävningar". Trummisen är djupt "in the pocket"! Horn-sektionen är "on the money".

Unexpected. Not my usual thing but had a lovely groove and smooth basslines.

Honestly album is mediocre, but it did give us a true gifts to mankind of George Clinton and bootie Collins.

very funky

This cover art kicks ass

Well, it was pretty nice to hear. Loose, fun enough, yeah, I liked that one quite a bit.

bangers across the board

is it greedy to want more funk from the "we want the funk" album?

New old classic

Bringing the funk. Very good.

I'll be honest I really did not expect to like this but I've been proven wrong in so many levels - it still wouldn't be my top choice but this is undeniably good

Love it, ethereal and vibey. A little lacking in length and substance from each song.

Nice palate cleanser after a day of punk rock, goth rock and metal. Songs go on for ages but it mostly works to transport you to a certain vibe. Really enjoyed it but won't necessarily revisit 4/4.5

Tear the roof off this mother

Nice, relaxing, easy to hear

Parliament – Mothership Connection This is really good. The insane keyboard work from Bernie Worrell is a particular highlight, adding an unpredictable brilliance to the tracks. The songs are catchy, expertly played, and the playful space theme only enhances the experience. I couldn’t help but imagine how incredible it must have been to witness these performed live. My only complaint is that a few tracks feel a little overlong and repetitive, but overall, this is a fine album that’s packed with personality and funk. Standout Song: Unfunky UFO Score: 4/5

I really dug this one. Real instruments playing funk. Just a feel good album.

I like funk and Parliament is pretty much the best at it so I like this album. Could have probably done without "Handcuffs" and they have other albums with higher funk levels, but still a great listen. Always love Spotify's recommended songs after listening to an album like this too.

P. Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up)

Got it as a gift, on vinyl. Thank you Gabe, much love.

I don’t know how you listen to Parliament and just have a great fucking time. This band is tight as hell and seems to be having so much fun playing together.

George Clinton. Funk so thick you can smell it.

Parliament and Funkadelic albums in the same week! Preferred this to Maggot Braim, very funky. Fav tracks: Give Up the Funk, P-Funk, Mothership Connection

Pretty fun, I never really listened to funk before, 7/10.

II truly enjoyed Mothership Connection, and one of the things that makes it such a rewarding listen is the experience of uncovering its original grooves and riffs that have been sampled countless times over the years. It’s like hearing the roots of so much modern music come alive. Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, in particular, have leaned heavily on the Parliament-Funkadelic catalog, and Mothership Connection is a goldmine of foundational beats, hooks, and vibes that shaped the sound of hip-hop and beyond. A Cosmic and Cultural Milestone Released in 1975, Mothership Connection was more than just an album; it was an event. George Clinton and Parliament crafted a unique universe where funk wasn’t just a genre but a cosmic force. The concept of the “Mothership” created a space-age mythology that drew on Afrocentrism and Afrofuturism, presenting funk as a vehicle for liberation and transcendence. The lyrics, drenched in humor and double entendre, invite listeners into a world where grooves reign supreme, and the music is both escapist and deeply rooted in cultural commentary. A Treasure Trove for Sampling The album’s tracks, like "Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof Off the Sucker)" and "P-Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up)," have been sampled by countless artists, especially in hip-hop. Dr. Dre’s The Chronic (1992) is practically a love letter to Parliament-Funkadelic, with Mothership Connection serving as a primary source for its laid-back West Coast sound. Snoop Dogg’s iconic "Who Am I (What’s My Name)?" borrows liberally from the Parliament track "Atomic Dog" (another Clinton masterpiece). Listening to Mothership Connection feels like discovering the blueprint for much of modern music—it’s thrilling to recognize the iconic riffs and grooves that have been reimagined across decades. Musical and Cultural Legacy Beyond the sampling, Mothership Connection established a new standard for funk music. Its synthesis of gospel harmonies, rock-infused solos, and jazz-inspired improvisation created a sonic palette that was as innovative as it was infectious. George Clinton and his collaborators, including Bootsy Collins and Bernie Worrell, weren’t just making dance music; they were creating art that spoke to a larger cultural movement. The album’s impact extends far beyond funk. Its Afrocentric, science-fiction-infused narrative inspired future artists like Janelle Monáe, who embraced Afrofuturism in her albums like The ArchAndroid. Even OutKast’s ATLiens owes a debt to Mothership Connection for paving the way for Black artists to explore alternate identities and storytelling methods through music. Why Mothership Connection Endures There’s something timeless about Mothership Connection. It’s not just the grooves or the funk—it’s the audacity of the album’s vision. Clinton and his crew didn’t just make music; they made an experience. Whether you're a fan of funk, a hip-hop enthusiast tracing the origins of your favorite beats, or someone just looking for a good time, Mothership Connection delivers on all fronts. For me, one of the most enjoyable aspects of the album is how it rewards attentive listening. Hearing the origins of a beat you recognize from Snoop or Dre is like uncovering a hidden piece of musical history. It’s a reminder of how innovative Clinton and Parliament were, crafting music so ahead of its time that it continues to fuel creativity nearly five decades later. If you haven’t given Mothership Connection a spin, do yourself a favor—climb aboard the Mothership and let George Clinton take you on a journey you won’t forget.

Wow, I liked this much better than anticipated! Straight-up funk only usually goes so far with me, and I get nervous whenever I see a "funk" album that's been released later and later into the 70's (don't try to dress up the word "disco," we all know what it is). But this shit is *real* funk, only ever as repetitive as it needs to be with just the right amount of variation. And, of course, top notch playing. Great shit. 4/5

muy entretenido de escuchar, me encantó

funky, groovy, fabulous! i really enjoyed this one.

Gotta love some funk, nice happy record throughoy

Funky AF

Make my funk the P-Funk! I want my funk uncut! George Clinton is a funk godfather. I don't know what title he has but it should be something like that. This music is just plain fun. There is definitely a civil rights/black movement element here but who doesn't want to get down when you hear this music. Iona was in the car while we were listening to "Give Up the Funk" and she said"Isn't this song famous or something?" I said yes it was but that also dad plays it frequently because he likes to get down. :) She also queried: "Why are they called Parliament? Are they from England?" lol

FUNKY FUNK!

Excellent Psychedelic Funk from the masters. Insanely funky, to be honest.

I've got a soft spot for Parliament. Incredible embodiment of everything funk is. George Clinton is an all-timer. 7.5/10 (3.75/5)

Funky WE WANT THE FUNK! I'd actually forgotten this was George Clinton's band.

If we're only getting one Parliament album in this collection (and it appears we are), then what a most excellent choice. (Technically we get more George Clinton with a couple of Funkadelic albums, but Parliament has its own magic, I'd say.) From start to finish, this album has a great, mostly mellow funk groove, and a fun listen especially with headphones. And the album cover is icing on the cake. It's a shame that this doesn't have my favorite Parliament song, "Chocolate city", nor my second favorite, "Get up for the down stroke", but you can't get everything, I suppose. And it was fun to hear a few new-to-me Parliament songs, although the endless farting in "Night of the Thumpasorus peoples" was a bit much.

listening to this album was a bright spot the day after the US election. it was released in 1975 when some horrible shit was going down yet Pfunk brightened everyone's day. I want the funk! Give me the funk!

The funk albums I'd had so far were starting to convince me that I didn't like funk, then this one arrived! Pure fun, from the instrumental to the lyrics to the concept. Well produced. Hard to stop myself moving to the music.

Echt leuk

November 4, 2024 👽

I have it as their 2nd best album.....

Relentless, joyful, swinging funk

Super groovy. I really wanted to rate this one higher, but I found the "DJ" interludes annoying, they took away from the music. I bet it's sooo much fun live, but it's weird in a recorded format...

I once heard someone ask George Clinton about how drugs influenced his music, to which George replied that he believed his music influenced the drugs. I don’t have a lot of experience with recreational drug use, but I really want to believe that is true!

They funked me in the ear, and I liked it!

I guess I needs and wants the funk.

It was great. Haven’t listened to much funk before, had heard great things about this album, and it lived up to the hype. Unfortunately the last song has what sounds like a fart playing throughout most of the song? Still a very strong album though.

Hella sick. Again with these old funk and jazz and other albums it’s very cool to hear and see where other artists get samples or inspirations from.

4 stars

Loved it

Pretty good and fun.

I loved the vibe such a great album!!! Dont really have a favourite number they were all super cool!

The funk is so strong

Ah,,, groovy [4]. Also, a perfect album.

Funky, energetic and hit me at the right time. On the 4 side of 3.5 for me!

first funk album i’ve listened to

Favorite Track: Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker)

Funk me that was cool

Really funky and I recognise a lot of samples used in later hip hop albums. Dr dre and Kendrick definitely used samples off this

That’s some fucking banging funk right there.

Very funky

Funky shit 7/10

P-Funk (Wants to get Funked up) - 8/10 OOH THIS IS GROOVY really needed this today. I like the faux radio show host commentary. Solid intro to the album Mothership Connection (Star Child) - 7/10 love the instrumental Unfunky UFO - 8/10 finally something with vocals! I mean mothership had some but I paid more attention to the instrumental Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication (The Bumps Bump) - 7/10 the wah wahs and synths tickle my brain lol Handcuffs - 6/10 this one is a little underwhelming for me Give up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker) - 6.5/10 I realized a lot of these songs are just repeating the same sentence over and over again Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples) - 7/10 first two seconds sounded a lot like give up the funk. I think this is a pretty solid outro overall: 7.1/10

This is some fun funky funk for feeling fabulous... https://youtu.be/vdj5Ts8asdQ?feature=shared

Loved the funk, classic Clinton.

Well this was a very good time. Simpsons: Yes

Gotta have that funk

Listened Before? N Awwwww shit. This is some FUNKY shit right here. The 70s were a magical time, and this album is no exception. Funky, fun, not taking itself seriously, and seriously 70s. HEAVILY influential to the G-Funk movement later as well. This one was a blast! Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Give Up The Funk

I am glad I have heard this

Funktacular

If this album doesn’t get you moving, nothing will

Banger

Fantastic album. Very funky, great instrumentation, great vibe. 9/10

This albums is super funky and super weird and I love it. Excellent musicianship throughout, and I don’t know if it’s considered a concept album or not, but it’s damn close. Classic funk album.

Entre sus canciones encontramos clásicos del grupo como "P-Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up)" y sobre todo "Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)". También destacan "Mothership Connection (Star Child)" y la rítmica "Unfunky UFO". Y es que ritmo, lo que se dice ritmo, es lo que sobresale por todo este gran disco bailable.

Love a bit of funk. There is something joyful about it and it makes me want to move. One start off for being a wee bit on the repetitive side. What’s not to love though?

who doesnt want to get funked up????

Great tunes. Shorter than I wanted it to be!

Intergalactic funk plus MACEO. Fun record

Funky, indeed! Impossible not to get a little hippier listening to this.

Really great fun funk!

Great funky album, particularly P-Funk and Mothership Connection. Guaranteed to get you up and dancing

Love it, cool funk, weird alien roleplay, what a vibe.

Parliament is funky as hell...but they're no Don Simmons. 4.75

I got funked up

Funky and groovy tunes that make you feel good and sooth the soul. Fun and creative album that’s not to be missed.

Oh man. The coolest shit out there!! Beautiful and futuristic textures galore!

Loved it!

Good and fun

Funky, but like it!

So funky

FUNK FUNK FUNK! What a vibe!

Cool and wacky funk album. Does get a bit repetitive at times with the choruses being constantly repeated and probably prefer the Funkadelic stuff over this but this is still a good listen

Enjoyed this while cleaning the house. Running the sweeper while shaving the groove thing is much more enjoyable.

Beam me up! The first track of this album is wasted space but the rest is Parkiament innovation and funk. George Clinton is a wacky dude but he gets art.

Best Song: Give Up The Funk. Classic, iconic, pure, funk. Worst Song: Night Of The Thumpasorus Peoples. Too little of the funk vocals and a bit too much of a reliance of that deep bass effect. Overall: What I love about P-Funk is that it always sounds like they're having fun, and that feeling is very infectious. Great, uplifting music that is suitable for so many contexts.

I indeed got the funk

Funk has quickly become one of my favorite genres via this project. This album is no exception. It predates most of the funk albums I’ve listened to so far this year, and I can hear its influence.

Not something I would always listen to, but its a classic in funk music.

Pretty awesome funk album. You can really see how early RHCP was influenced by this.

A funky good time

skemmtilegt. meira.

Good "Funkadelic", took me back a few years!

Groovy! While I generally come down on the Funkadelic side of things, the other half of George Clinton's madness is a fun ride. Some of it doesn't age particularly well (Handcuffs!) -- but it's a great mashup of genres and a super party album. Unexpected bangers: Mothership Connection, Unfunky UFO

Super fico, una bella ricarica durante una mattinata smorta. Mi piace quando si sente che gli artisti si divertono mentre registrano e lo trasmettono a chi ascolta

Excelente disco

It's damn funky.

Undeniably fun and groove-y.

Incredible funk. Worthy of a 4 I think.

Album that inspired a whole movement in hip hop. Still funky enough.

I'm not a big fan of Funk music, but this album is so much a classic, I can't even deny it. Also, I like that it is a little more chill than some of the later Clinton-style funk. Overall, I did enjoy it, and there are just so many songs on this album used for hip-hop and referenced in a lot of music later.

Funky 4.5

I have a tendency to grow tired of too much funk - but whenever George Clinton is involved, it doesn’t seem to be the case. I’m not as much in love with the Parliament side of P-Funk, but its groove is still unmatched.

I enjoyed PFunk, Unfunky UFO was fantastic, Handcuff was a very odd and concerning song, Give Up The Funk was fun I like to imagine it goes after Unfunky UFO.

Album's influence On Dre & West Coast hip hop Immeasurable. The Chronic is nearly a song-by song rip from this album. The creativity of these cats is unreal. Solid evidence to counter parents' dictum, "Don't do drugs."

Fantastic song titles, this is just a party. Bass playing off the charts.

Pure funk. I'd already heard a couple tracks off this one before and had enjoyed them a lot so I was really looking forward to taking the whole thing in and it did NOT disappoint, it genuinely feels like such a defining funk album and you get lost in this really cool world for about 40 minutes. A couple tracks went on a bit long in my opinion, but it doesn't affect my enjoyment too much. Good stuff.

Great funk grooves nothing else like Parliament, hoping there is some more on this list because I like some of the earlier albums more.

After hearing Funkadelic's maggot brain it opened me up to listening to more funk and soul genres I have only listened in passing before. There really is not a bad track on this album, the musicianship is incredible, jazz horns, solid riffs and none of it competing with each other. - P-Funk (wants to get funked up) - Mothership connection (star child) - Unfunky UFO - Handcuffs - Give up the funk (tear the roof of this sucker)

Funky and fun, danced the whole way through. You definitely got that funk, Parliament.

Give Up The Funk is a banger every time and it really surpasses everything else on this album. That's not to say there aren't other fun moments. The instrumentation on this set is crazy. Lots of funky sax grooves, baselines, and all the other sounds that accompany quality funk music. My chief complaint is the amount of times the album comes to a halt for speaking skits. A few skits aren't really a problem for me but it's a bit heavy handed on this one.

funky as hell - nothing much else to be said

I suggest you give them the funk.

A funk classic. Never fails to bring a smile to my face. 8/10

This funkd up my week

Such a vibrant, colourful album. Can totally hear the massive influence this album has had over recent/current music. Clinton is a beast. Would have liked to hear more narratives running through but overall a really interesting listen. 8/10

more of that 70s funk goodness. this is a big interstellar themed one, having an introduction by, like... an alien or something? it's a nice album, but it has more of the typical funk stylings from this era, carefree tracks that go pretty long, funky solos but doesn't break far from the initial foundation. also what's with funk albums having incredibly long track names? seriously like half of these have a track that's named like "superdupergroovydanceyfunkamegaultrasuperebolatuberculosis". i like the clavinet that sounds like a wet fart.

i hope they made a billion dollars off the samples

I m an, Dre built a whole career sampling about 16 bars from this. It's great, just a party all day he way through.

groovy shit, funk, uplifting, fun

Mothership Connection was honestly a really cool and funky album with a ton of personality. Apparently, this band had a lot (if not all) of the same members of Funkadelic in it. I can see this a lot since they do sound very similar. I do like this album more though since it feels slightly more coherent with less randomness. I also do like that this album had a few little touches including that whole section at the beginning which i thought was really cool. I do have quite the fondness for this album Best Song: Mothership Connection (Star Child) Worst Song: Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication (The Bumps Bump)

I loved almost every song. It is the perfect album to scratch your funk itch. I don't necessarily get a funk itch often though, so I don't know how much I'll revisit. That being said, this album obviously inspired Dr. Dre to create the G-Funk sound, which resulted in some of the first songs I have ever loved including Let Me Ride which samples Mothership Connection. I am sure I'll revisit whenever I want to get funked up.

I like funk music. I often think to myself I should listen to more funk. This is great funk music, at times, pushing the envelope with some of the funk levels. I did find myself thinking by the end of this, funk isn't something you can turn on or off, it's a lifestyle. The person who makes this music isn't funky sometimes, he's funky all the times. And while I do like this music sometimes, I don't like it all the time and I can get tired of it. I have a lot of respect for people who live for the funk.

I could listen to Bootsy basslines all day, the man is just a machine of effortless mastery. Every one of these songs has such an incredible drive and rhythm. I'm not sure it makes me want to dance, but it really makes me want to smoke a gigantic blunt in a room with blinky lights. I think it's impossible to feel bad while listening to this. The lyrics are mostly self referential nonsense, so there's nothing to process other than having a good time. Even the solos just kind of blend in to the groove, you barely notice that more than a few of them go on for minutes. I was mad this morning for various reasons and this picked me right up. What a mood booster. I didn't even want to skip the vastly overplayed "Give Up The Funk".

Parliament is great. I've seen them live before and it was a groovy time. My one critique of the style is the guy explaining stuff at the beginning of songs. We get it, we know who you are, we made this selection on purpose. Don't Mike Jones me.

I overall really enjoyed the album, they put a large gamble on having music that sounds so good, you won't care how repetitive it is because it's just so damn fun and satisfying, and that gamble pays off most of the time. I really think they could have shaved off 45+ seconds off of each song and put another song on the record, and that would have really hit the sweet spot for song length. It can feel a bit cheap to criticize on this point though, because it seems like if you're in the crowd dancing to this music, the fact that it's 7 min long per song matters a lot less. I mean, shit, I was walking home from work listening to this album, and I felt like I noticed the song lengths a lot less than when I was at home listening while doing homework. I think for the right context, the song lengths ultimately don't matter too much, so I'm deciding not to ding it for that really. Some albums just have a narrower context to listen to them in, and that shouldn't always count against it. I'm going to thank God everyday "give up the funk" is the worst track on the album. I've heard that song several times before today, and I don't know what it is about it, but it just does not hit almost at all for me. There's a small sense of gratefully being proven wrong about classic funk while listening to this album for me. They really do have the funk, and God, the lyrics make me bust laughing sometimes, they must've been some drugged up horny motherfuckers. I love the inclusion of brass and synths in the music, it really helps to dig into each loop and listen for different details several times over. In the right context, I see myself reaching for this album and enjoying it, and for that, I give it a 4.

I think it's hilarious that the 70s funk bands have to use the word funk in all of their songs. It's come up twice now between Parlinent and Funkadelic, just a week ago. Funk is pretty fun and it keeps me bobbing along. I think I liked One Nation Under a Groove by Funkadelic a little more, but this was cool too. Unfunky UFO was my favorite here.

Catchy and fun - quite liked this!

Parliament always brings the funk.

Hot, funky, uncut funk, the bomb Top tracks: Handcuffs, Give Up The Funk

Groovy

Funky fresh - 7/10

Extremely funky but not overdone 7.5/10

This got me funked up

Super fun and funky album. ‘Give up the Funk’ is a classic but there was plenty of great parts in the other songs. Final song ‘Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples’ was the only track that I didn’t particularly like, only for the weird synth bass part.

This one's alright! I've needed something like this lately. I feel like I haven't gotten a ton of funk albums, so getting one is always a nice surprise. Also, I feel like I've gotten a lot of long albums as of lately, so getting one that's a nice 38 minutes is good for me. Anyways, the album's good. I like it. It's just a fun funk album. George Clinton always knows what he's doing, and what he's doing is pretty neat. This album is kind of a concept album with its themes of space. Cool! I like that. It helps make the album stand out. The sound is great, the writing fits the theme well, and the singing is solid. There isn't much to say or complain about. This is just a nice album to listen to for some fun funky goodness. Light 4/5.

This is good music!

Nice introduction to funk.

This is an authentic ticket that allows you access to the true Mothership and the vibrations of the very roots of P-funk. Buckle up, Buttercup, 'cuz thang's 'bout ta git FUN-KAY!
