Reviews (page 9 of 16)

Extra special this album coming up on my list on Ozzy Osborne's birthday. This album for me is working back till 3am on many deadlines, alone in an office with this blasting out of my computer's speakers. Perfect album

As an Ozzy fan, I looked at this album cover and was like \"huh? I haven't heard this one\" but once I clicked to listen to the album, i've realised that i've played it on high rotation prior to today.

Legendary

Listen to Black Sabbath

War Pigs takes me back to when I played a lot of Guitar Hero.

Classic kickass metal album. What more can I say?

brack saba!

Wow. I've never intentionally listened to Black Sabbath, maybe because it was too old or something. I've heard some of the songs a lot, but I never knew what a great complete album it is. Cohesive sound, but enough variation between tracks to stay interesting.

I didn't even finish War Pigs. Not on purpose, but I got busy and forgot to come back.

Very solid, just the last few meh songs on the album prevent a 5

Best overall black sabbath album (that I've listened to so far). Always classic

Love this album. No question. Easy to drop in and let the music wash over. Feel it in my chest. Propelling. Deep.

All time great.

That first side, man. Just floors you. Three of the greatest metal songs ever. Then there's the Planet Caravan song. Yikes. It reminds me of the Spinal Tap song, "Clam Caravan." I'm sure that that was what they were going for, but it just seems out of place here. Everything else fits really well. I remember getting this CD a few years back at Best Buy (remember when they had CDs, kids?). It was in a $5 bin. Only five dollars?! Sold. This defined the genre. Pretty much all of metal has taken from this album (except for "Planet Caravan", maybe...) The one song being a clunker, I am still going to rate this pretty high. How can you not?

Oh yeah. Now that's an album. I'm not really a metal fan but I love guitars and bass. It's probably the simpler (yet still intricate) sound that I love so much about Sabbath. I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere that Iommi invented or popularized power chords. It just brings so much sound. And yet there is plenty of complex tapping, plucking, hammering on and off (solos & sequences in Paranoid, Iron Man, Rat Salad, I could go on and on). War Pigs really epitomizes their sound - goes wherever it wants and it works. The intro crawls in, then the first verse has an up-tempo power chord repetition, then a 1min bridge with a different pace and chord progression, then back to the verses sound for 30s, then a new 1min bridge/solos, back to another verse, back to the style of the first bridge for 30-45s, then a long outro complete with some final distortion just because. Some stuff is simple, some is complex, but altogether it's a masterpiece.

Solid metal album by Black Sabbath. The first half is full of bangers and the second half doesn't disappoint either. Not as memorable the first but still a great listen.

Ozzy forever! War Pigs, Paranoid, Electric Funeral and Fairies Wear Boots. Iron Man is also great but been worn out by hearing it on the radio. Easy 5.

Tried to think of something clever to say but...

Absolutely fantastic. Not a heavy metal fan normally, but thesingers voice is great, the subject matter dealt with excellently in the lyrics, and love the balance of the music.

Holy cow! This album is freaking fantastic! What have I been waiting for??? I think as a kid I bought just enough into the satanic panic of the 70s and 80s to believe at least a tiny bit that listening to Black Sabbath would invite Satan into my soul. (There were Christian protestors outside the brand new Events Center when Black Sabbath came to my home town in the early 80s.) And even after I became certain there was nothing to fear in this music, I had convinced myself that Black Sabbath just wouldn't appeal to me. They'd be too hard, too noisy, too mean. I even knew and liked half these songs already (War Pigs, Paranoid, Iron Man) but there was still a part of me that did not believe. Gah! Propaganda works, yo! Now I get why the powers that be needed me to be afraid. But the truth is we don't need to fear this bunch of hippies! The war pigs are the ones to fear! Anyway, my feelings about every single track on this record run the gamut from like-it-a-lot to oh-my-god-I-love-this-so-much! The drums, the guitars, bass, vocals are all amazing. When everything but the hi-hat drops out at the beginning of War Pigs? Sublime. The mellow bongo-ness of Planet Caravan? Smooth. The psychedelia Electric Funeral? Terrific. The bluesy grooves in the middle of Hand of Doom and Fairies Wear Boots? Bluesy and groovy --- and wicked! I love this record. More please!

Greatest Metal Album of all time. Genre defining. Driving guitar links heavy bass and harrowing vocals make for an amazing listening experience.

Gros classique. Fait Stoner. Considérer à acheter en vinyle

Front to back this is what heavy metal should sound like. Sabbath were pioneers. From the fast to the heavy and even a slower song like Planet Caravan

Albums were so short! The tracks that everyone knows still wail but the others are surprisingly chill.

We do not deserve and can barely handle the badassery of Black Sabbath. This song is at least 50% hits, and the other 50% slaps. Keep it up and you'll go places, Oswald.

Iconic, IronMan, Maybe top 5

Absolute Masterpiece

Outstanding, nom stop bangers start to finish. Also, the best percussion I've heard in ages.

Wonderful stuff and so influential to the development of heavy metal - amazing tracks such as war pigs, iron man and of course paranoid I haven’t debated a score as much and my head says four but……

Hand of doom. The best part about this album is you can take all of the singles that everyone’s heard plenty of times away, and what you’re left with is still amazing. I love this album. Again….hand of doom.

Classic masterpiece.

Classic album. Generated a new genre for future middle school boys to headbang too. 5-star banger.

hell yeah

Wow what a dead-center-kick-to-the-nuts album from top to bottom!

Such a classic. It's cool to hear the subtle stereo panning of the drums and guitars with headphones.

Banger

Top classic metal

Warum ist Hand of doom nicht beliebter? Klassiker der immer wieder spaß macht.

The best

Insane. The riffs on here are SICK NASTY..a HURRICANE of intensity. One of my all-time favorites. This one is so good it's RIDICULOUS

What an album, there isn't a bad song on it. I can tell why this is such a touchstone for the genre. It has a primal quality that it's heavier predecessors struggle to capture.

Brilliant album

Fantastic classic. Always was very good, still is

Nothin to say. Pure fire 😂. 5/5

Knew it

Great album. A lot of nostalgia

yes please. this is a band i would love to watch, sadly the later versions of sabbath are pretty awful so that just isn't going to happen.

Some disgustingly good riffs in this album, had actually forgotten abt War Pigs, which was a nice surprise. Pretty much every song is a banger, also they pieced together Paranoid in 2 hours??? What the fuck Already Saved: Paranoid Saved After Listening: War Pigs, Iron Man, Electric Funeral

One of the best albums ever made.

It's the album Prince Philip will have blaring out as he's lowered into his grave. As if we're not getting a bank holiday. That is most upsetting.

Classic

Easy 5, one of my favourite albums of all time.

Classic

I may be more of a Black Sabbath fan than I had ever considered... I’d love to have this on vinyl.

Great 👍🏼

Give it 5 stars or I'll get ye

Pretty good indeed. Side 2 is particularly strong.

How is it so heavy for 1970?!?!

Imagine putting this on for its first spin back in the day. Planet Caravan is a bit of a rad piano diversion from the rest of the album

Damn, what a great album. Good example of a rough voice used perfectly. powerful lyrics, good songs, good flow, and an album that changed the game. Legit.

Putos genios.

This is a bit ‘welcome to my twisted mind’ but I fucking loved it. 5 Big Ones

almost every song on this album is perfect, in so many ways, really incredibly great music 🥲

Over too soon! Short, sweet, and classic!

Awesome. 10/10 every song is awesome.

Ideal type of rock music I'd listen to when in the mood. Great stuff.

Great album. Always forget how mellow and melodic it is.

I rocked out so hard I almost drove my car into a ditch

Just good pure rock.

Classic!

Badass. So cool. Bluesy, infant metal.

Classic

Great album full with big hits and great songs

This is cult stuff!

6 stars.

A Rat Salad away from absolute perfection FT: Can I really choose? OK. I will. A tie between Planet Caravan and Paranoid. 9/10

Spectacular

Que dire, un chef d'œuvre

Banger

Good songs but just isn't enough to listen on repeat. 3.5

Banger after banger

Of course this is a classic. Despite hearing War Pigs and Paranoid far too often over the years. Not my favourite Sabbath album, and Planet Caravan lets it down a little for me, but it’s solid nonetheless.

Buenisimo

Three genuine, bona fide rock classics on this album. There are excellent riffs and melodies; the musicianship is excellent and serves to accentuate the songs rather than dominate them; and the vocal work is a worthy reminder of how good Ozzy O was before he became a caricature. The other tracks are decent too but not quite at the level to get the album to a 5.

Was expecting to dislike it (the singles are a bit overplayed and not really my style) but was actually pretty good. Other albums tracks really helped with it - I was particularly fond of ‘hand of doom’ which was surprisingly jazzy. Memorable riffs and solos, pounding drums, clear vocal delivery - it’s still really surprising how well this has aged which I guess is a testament to the music it contains but also its following legacy.

I've never really listened to Black Sabbath before and was very pleasantly surprised by this album. Decent songs including the famous Paranoid. I listened again on the same day any it was great second time round too. It's great to find these gems.

Another gem from the greatest (and first) metal band of all time. So much to love here, especially the constant grooooove.

regonised few of the popular songs, likes it but doesn't have that "fullness" I like in songs. Makes sense though as this was the blueprint for much to come.

Still heavy as ever.

Love this album. Classic metal. Gets better with through the years

Superb album, not their best though

sabbath rules. my favorite 60s album from the 70s. what metal should be, political and fantastic at the same time. the whole iron man is kinda glam tbh. fave track other than war pigs hand of doom

such an amazing song, really gets you going. puts you in that rock mood so easily. easy 10

historic album to kick off the metal genre, still holds up and is enjoyable to listen to

I had definitely heard this before, but I have a lot more appreciation for it now... especially since reviewing their debut album a few weeks ago. This is a huge leap forward in both production and songwriting. War Pigs is fine, but I think Paranoid is the album's best track and Planet Caravan is a welcome changeup to the sound. Iron Man is iconic, but it goes on a little too long for me. I like the sounds and progression of the next two tracks better. I understand the Led Zeppelin comparisons, but Black Sabbath is more interesting musically and Ozzy is a better singer -- or at least doesn't give in to some of the irritating tendencies Robert Plant has. I don't need the extended drum solos, but the last two tracks mostly work for me as well. It's a little awe-inspiring that all these sounds were together on one record in 1970 -- it feels like a road map to the next two decades of hard rock and metal. Black Sabbath is never going to be my preferred style, but this album feels both groundbreaking and essential. More importantly for the purposes of this project, I enjoyed it.

Loved faires wear boots, forgot about that onr

This has more of an edge than I expected. Great album and totally worth listening front to back.

Obviously I am young and the Ozzy I know is the chaotic, burrito-obsessed MTV version. This version seems so removed from that, quite earnest and concerned with the actual world. And obvs a classic I know that I am not thaaaaaat young....

I’m not a big metal fan (as my stats on this site prove) which is probably why I’ve never really listened to Black Sabbath. I’m starting to realise that was a mistake.

And the 60s turned into the 70s with Sabbath paving the way.

fave: War Pigs

Great second album from the brummie boys

I liked this a lot more than I expected to. I thought it would be super screamy and over the top. But it was really good.

was familiar with a lot of their music already.

Notables: - War Pigs - Electric Funeral - Rat Salad

Top nerd rock album

I love how guitar, bass, drums and voice all sound awesome in their own rights, and then together they meld to an even better sounding big picture. The A-side is impeccable - proto Stoner/Doom perfection. Unfortunately, the B-side is just a similar but much weaker version of that. All in all, it's excellent, but not among my very favorites. 4/5

Really enjoyed this! Classic rock and songs you can help but give a little head bang to. Would definitely listen again

Cortito y al pie

It is a classic but not my style so this rating is probably a bit low.

Absolute ripper of an album. War Pigs into Paranoid might be one of the best album intros of all time.

great album

Great metal album, such iconic riffs vocals and songs. Liked it. 1. Paranoid 2. Iron Man 3. War Pigs

really fun ! the first two songs were so good !

Love, respect and ideal entry. But the usual 70s long instrumentals. But my god the lyrics.

Solid classic album, War Pigs, Iron Man and of course Paranoid makes for a jam packed listen. Planet Caravan was an unexpected surprise psychedelic track.

Perhaps the most monumental and revered album in metal history for a reason. 8/10

Don’t know that I love anything individually enough to go 5 but mostly all bangers, no bad song here. Electric Funeral top discovery

My tail is between my legs after hearing this album. I’ve always crapped on Black Sabbath, maybe because I thought the Osbournes TV show was such garbage, that I mentally wrote off his band entirely? I was genuinely impressed at this album. Many recognizable songs and they’re such good quality - War Pigs, Iron Man, Paranoid. Better late getting onto the crazy Sabbath train than never.

Never actually listened to this. I’ve heard the singles, of course. Really fun album. It’s kind of interesting to realize this was controversial in its day.

Ozzy’s bone chilling vocals and Iomi’s guitar playing creates a dark and dismal atmosphere that’s also filled with memorable and catchy riffs. This is definitely a must listen for anyone who enjoys metal and intuitive songwriting. There are so many hits on here from the band’s discography. Overall Score: decent 8

LOVE ITTT YESS, iron man is a childhood song

Fave: Electric Funeral

«Пузыри! Да ладно тебе, Шэрон! Я чертов Оззи Осборн, Принц тьмы! Зло! Зло! Что злого в куче гребаных мыльных пузырей!»

First half: heavy; second half - cools considerably. Still a great, it's plainly obvious on even the most cursory of listens why it launched lifelong careers.

Yeah, this is great. No doubt about it. Hadn't heard it in years but it's fantastic.

Great album! The singles are probably the weakest part. Paranoid is ok, though over played. It’s the gateway drug for spotty teenagers getting into heavy metal. And Iron Man doesn’t do much for me. Planet Caravan is the best on the album and should be the last song. It would be a great ending to an album.

Prefer Master of Reality, but is still a very good album. Genre defining. Ozzy's voice on Paranoid the song has always got on my nerves. But it works better on the album alongside the heavy shit and Planet Caravan prettiness... 4.5

I can’t really say anything about this album that hasn’t already been said. Sabbath is a classic for a reason. Dark, brooding, heavy, it really has it all. It doesn’t aim to be thrash or speed metal but takes its time and really delves into creating an atmosphere for the listener. No notes, great songs, great album.

4.6/5.

Surprisingly enjoyable as I'm not much for harder music. Ozzy's voice is in a league of his own

Very good rock musics. For my personal taste, some of the instrumentals go on slightly too long, but I think that's a taste thing (or lack of it) on my part rather.

7.5/10

This is the foundational album in Heavy Metal, but despite that I quite enjoyed it. There’s real force behind the sound, coming through best in perhaps Sabbath’s best known songs War Pigs, Iron Man, and the title track. It’s clear to see how it was so influential, including beyond Metal (listen to War Pigs and Arabella by Arctic Monkeys side by side). It does however suffer from the disease of rock in this period of excess, with some long solos and tracks that drag on a bit. Overall, a good listen though.

Very raw, some good riffs, very simple lyrics, cool production. Singing is better than I imagined too. I like the simplicity and I liked some of the songs. Enjoyed it!

Great instrumentals and beats overall. Iron Man is my favorite track on the album. Really cool defining sound of the early 70's.

Very nicely done orchestral and lush.

*Iconic album with some absolute bangers *Can feel like a slog at times

Yeah alright

sounds like classic 80s rock

Hell yeah dude \m/

Prior to be assigned this here, I have 4 songs liked on this album and 6 songs liked by Black Sabbath in total. So I am familiar with Black Sabbath but wouldn't say I'm a massive fan (yet). Liked songs on this one are "War Pigs", "Paranoid", "Planet Caravan" and "Iron Man" - basically what amounts to the whole side one of the LP. So I'm curious to listen to this whole thing and see if more of it grabs me. I ended up also liking the instrumental track "Rat Salad" and "Hand of Doom". The other 2 ("Electric Funeral" and "Jack the Stripper/Fairies Wear Boots") just didn't connect for me. Liked songs on Spotify: 6/8 Rating: 4/5

Nice album, on the chiller side for Black Sabbath. Chill dudes (they are not and ozzy was "controversial" at best)

Great punk album, it’s a nice intro to punk and honestly I liked it quite a lot. I loved how unpolished and messy it was

Oh god I’m turning into my mom. I really liked this album and the way the songs flowed into one another. I already knew several songs so the familiarity was nice, but it was also interesting to listen in the intended order. The guitar and drum solos rock and Ozzy’s vocals are unique.

Tuttuakin tutumpi, legendaarinen albumi. Tullut kuunneltua joskus ihan älyttömän paljon! Basso-kitara -osasto ihan tajutonta. 4/5

Pretty good

8.0/10

liked it! not my style again but i’d be listening to iron man and fairies wear boots again

I like it more than the debut album

Changed the game forever. A classic.

What makes this album great is that the deeper tracks are also really cool songs.

Awesome!

Rad, classic. Personally probably a 3, but points for impact

This album is a classic. No song untouched, it's absolutely perfect heavy metal.

Not my favourite style, but I can tell there's some great material in this. Plus, it must be one of the earliest and most influential heavy metal albums. I liked it. 4/5

It could be the definition of rock and roll: individuals of questionable technical ability coming together and somehow making brilliant music.

This album was as good as I remember. War Pigs is a great way to start the album and the hits are obvious with Iron Man and Paranoid too. I never really "got" Planet Caravan though, but maybe I need to try again.

rat salad was giving upstairs neighbour activities, other than that i enjoyed it

3.5/5? Loved some of the guitar lines. A bit heavy for my personal taste.

Highly overrated. But influential and possibly better that most of the early heavy rock/metal.

An album that definitely deserves its reputation. Favourite Songs: War Pigs, Paranoid, Iron Man, Fairies Wear Boots. Least Favourite Songs: Planet Caravan, Rat Salad.

I like this style. Pretty good overall, great drums, guitar, and bass for sure.

Great great album. I’ve heard it many times and I don’t mind many times more.

Great album with a few iconic hits, this is some quintessential black sabbath. Good stuff

good album best song planet caravan

Great album 4 stars

Cool songs. Cool album. 4/5

Legendary album of Metal. Literally genre defining and yet I havent listened to it front to back. Let's see how we do Ozzy. May he RIP War Pigs being the opening track is crazy work GG COMING IN SWINGING Paranoid (the song) CLASSIC IRON MANNNNNN Fuck yea legendary Didn't really care for the other songs after the hits but they are still good so

Hell yea Kinda front loaded but any album with war pigs, paranoid and iron man as tracks 1,2&4 will be Really not what I expected black sabbath to be, I had always thought it would be much much heavier and that I wouldn’t like it but this is awesome 4.5

Going from hard gritty rock with deep gutteral grows of lyrics to the softest song you can hear, amazing album to listen to on break with a beer and a sandwich

Pleasantly surprised. I actually like them

4 star

very good, classic stuff

classics are classics for a reason.

Altered my brain chemistry. Nothing else just that, highly recommend everyone on the planet listen to this album. No skips.

Black sabbath forever

4.5/5. Undeniable classic. The quieter moments shine, though maybe not handled as deftly as they would be in the future. War Pigs is untouchable

very cool i like

Old gold.

Mega Album

Ive listened to this one already this is my first time here i have no idea whats happening so thats that see you tomorrow

Classic rock album but I have to be in the right mood for some of it I LOVE WAR PIGS THO and PARANOID

The songs make for great needle drops and I'm sure they were great live Wouldn't listen in my spare time

Rip to the legend Ozzy. These songs are so foundational to so much of the music I love today. War Pigs rules. Paranoid rules. Love Hand of Doom.

Not bad. Liked some of the songs :)

I have to admit i had a different view on heavy metal before listening to this album. Turns out i actually REALLY enjoy it.

This was the album that put heavy metal on the map. "Paranoid" is my second-favourite Black Sabbath album after their self-titled debut. "War Pigs" never ages, as it becomes relevant every half a decade. Although "Planet Caravan" isn't metal like the rest of the songs on "Paranoid", it's still a great song. Who can forget the title track? It's the best song on the album. 4 stars for "Paranoid".

Truly a monumental, landmark album. At least four all time classics here.

I get it

Forgot they wrote war pigs

Amazing album!

It's pretty good

Sinister, menacing, riff heavy. I like Black Sabbath but I would have have discovered ut at a diffeeent time in my life to really feel it rather than merely appreciate it. much of it still hits hard.

I like this one. 4 stars I think

Phenomenal album and so well paced. Loved how planet caravan breaks up the harder songs in the first half. The songs are so loose and raw. I watched a massive ship leave port listening to Iron Man =D

Some of the songs are mind bending, some are too much, but I like the swing

Side one is riff heavy, classic heavy metal, and very enjoyable. War Pigs, Iron Man, and title track Paranoid all stand out for me. The second side drags a little, over 7 mins for Hand of Doom followed by Rat Salad instrumental. Although Fairies Wear Boots a great closing track. 4 out of 5 stars.

Bands simply don’t band the way they used to! The hits are hits for a reason but I was honestly most taken with Planet Caravan. It’s always nice to have a moment of calm in the storm and being able to do both types of song at this level is something else entirely

Klassiker. 1-2 songs gingen so, der rest große klasse

Great opening tracks but loses its way a bit in the middle

Favorite Track: Hand of Doom - Love the drum solo in Rat Salad - Planet Caravan gives a cool vibe - good message --> all in all absolute classic; love it

It's amazing what used to be considered heavy. That's no knock against the album, but more so recording capabilities. Put this up against a modern metal album and the sound just isn't quite as full or something. The drumming is also much more jazzy than what you'll hear today as well. Anyway, that said it's a good album. I was familiar with a few tracks, but listening to it today I realized I don't think I had ever actually heard Iron Man from start to finish before, and it has some weird parts lol. It's weird how jazzy some parts of this album are even beyond just the drumming mentioned above. More metal bands should do that these days.

I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. I didn't think I was a heavy metal fan, but this was great.

First ever listen front to back of this. Excellent top to bottom. Didn't realize it was from back in 1970. Wild.

4-5 RiP Ozzy

I generally don't like classic rock or metal, but I do like this! That early metal sound I guess was the sweet spot for me before it evolved into what came later.

album #13 wild album from start to finish, literally. the songs have an almost animalistic nature to them in the best way. whilst some are less up my alley, i grew up listening to ozzy and hand of doom alone bumps the whole scoring. i can't give it a 5/5 because, for me, there aren't enough songs that incredible / to my taste. happy to give a solid 4/5 for musicality, nostalgia, and influence. average track rating: 3.5/5 favourite track(s): hand of doom, paranoid, war pigs least favourite track(s): iron man number of albums left to review: 1,076 number of albums from the list that i agree with being on the list: 7 albums from the list that I would consider on my list: 3 albums from the list I won't include on my list: 10

Like this album, there's definitely some weird experimental songs but also absolute classics 8.5/10

it was beautiful wow i'm almost obsessed i really enjoyed it idk if i'm gonna come back to it often we will see 4.5/5

this rips

Fantastic album. Even the non-popular songs are pretty good. Bluesy with tons of great bass lines. Defines why Black Sabbath are 70s icons.

has all the hits

Knew more of the songs than I expected. A fairly pleasant Monday interlude.

This album made me feel like I'm in the 90s playing war in a fever dream; it's dark and the guns reflect the blue light of plastic guns. Only to find myself alone, and it's not a game, but a true battle, and I am hiding.

Pc As S fdHem k - Stellas first album review. Didn't complain in the car, surprised how much I enjoyed this

What the hell - I’d only heard War Pigs previously and now I love the whole album.

4 stars

Several hits and a great heavy metal sound

4/5 Not my usual type of music but it was definitely enjoyable and I liked it.

Love it!

ah come on now, this is a belter. A couple of all-time classics backed up by strong riffs through the rest. Planet Caravan is an odd one but I dug it. Great work.

i didnt think it was gonna be good, it was good, fell off a bit towards the end

Muito bom.

I feel lame for not checking out Black Sabbath before the age of 32. Whatever I imagined they sounded like, it wasn’t this, because Paranoid is incredibly cool. It makes excellent use of dynamics throughout - a nice mix of heavy songs with creeping, quiet ones. Most surprisingly of all (for me at least) is the consistently sinister, psychedelic edge to their writing. They don’t sound safe or normal. I can only imagine the faces of worried parents in 1970 as they heard this weird music emanating from bedroom doors.

Tons of songs I’d already heard and like but didn’t know came from here. Good straightforward rock

A classic that's hard to add anything to say

Loved this and have always thought I wouldn’t like black sabbath! Oh well I was wrong 🤣would recommend

Not something I would listen to every day as it was very intense but I fw it.

You think I’m going to give an album with a song called Rat Salad less than 4 stars??

This was really good, I liked every song!

I'm not someone who knows a lot of metal. Heard this and this is great. Extreme range of everything, it keeps changing, never boring!

Good record especially given it's place in the development of the genre. Love the guitar solo sounds - drum sounds are terrible!

i think it's a little heavy for me, not exactly my cup of tea. however, it is a great album filled with so much soul and passion.

I did not go into this album expecting to like it this much so that was a pleasant surprise!

Pretty excellent

This is so much better then some similar albums from the era I have reviewed recently

Landmark album.

Classic album and nostalgic

Planet Caravan? Wat doet dat nummer hier joh? Waar is mn metal? FAVO: War Pigs, Paranoid, Hand of Doom, Fairies wear boots

Probably my favourite Black Sabbath album.

This actually rocks! Good stuff.

One of the greatest albums of rock.

While I’ve been aware of Ozzy Osbourne pretty much my entire life, I can honestly admit I’ve never really listened to his music. The Ozzy I knew growing up was the drugged-up, constantly shaking, bat-head biting artist who looked crazed at all times. “Shhhhaaaaarrrroooonnnnn!!” That being said, I’m glad this album appeared on the list. It was banger after banger on this album. Clearly Ozzy has a vocal way about him that is very monotone in most cases but he can send it when he wants to and the rock and roll is electric on every track. This was a great listen.

Yeah sure. It rocks.🤘 Of course the slow guitar riffs are iconic but don’t sleep on the drums.

Awesome early metal

Fun album, some really strong songs. 8.1/10

i really liked it, but about 4.5/5

🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

I didn’t expect to like this nearly as much as I did! Also, when exactly did Ozzy father Jack Black? I would give 3.5 but since it won’t let me, I’ll round it up due to it surprising me.

I’ve known it as a general fact, but I’ve never heard how similar old metal/rock is to jazz until listening to this album. Neat.

Pretty neat :)

Been too long since I listened to this. It's still great, but there's a bit more...filler than I remember.

Three iconic songs. Otherwise one listen and done.

Not really my cup of tea. I appreciate what Black Sabbath did for the genre.

another one i had listened to!

I only really peripherally knew Black Sabbath before listening to this album, but I'm glad I got the assignment! Really good album. Of course, Paranoid and Iron Man are classics (apparently War Pigs too, although that one wasn't one I knew); the remainder are solid. First half of the album I appreciated more than the second half, but overall I really liked it. I can also see the influence Black Sabbath had on other artists like the White Stripes. (4)

Some absolute bangers and a few unfortunately fell flat hence a four

A banger. The dawn of metal. Very interesting to study Iommi's style at this point. He's got a signature sound and rhythm style, but the lead parts are very noodly. Lots of basic scale traversals and a few sub-riffs that are employed in a number of songs. The band works well together, and the songs are great - the Sabbath style was born here, and it peaked here too.

The Iron Man riff is so damn good

I like that I can hear the bass. Had heard War Pigs, Paranoid, and Iron Man before. I knew I liked the songs I had already heard but I also enjoyed the ones I hadn't.

Has to be on of the most genre formative albums of all time (along with their previous debut released the same year). Nothing sounded like this before and a TON sounds like it after. And it’s banger after banger and still holds up. War Pigs— maybe of the best heavy metal song of all time— to Iron Man has to be one of the greatest 4 song runs in the genre. The psychedelic Planet Caravan, Ozzy speaking in the 3rd person, Iommi’s riffs. A masterpiece of the genre that only falls a star short in its ability to move me emotionally.

liked it a lot

Liked it but some classic music I just cannot get into

I liked this a lot more than I thought I would!

Some amazing songs in here and a great album overall

At one point I got this as one of my 10 CDs for a penny from Columbia House. I listened to Paranoid, Iron Man, maybe a little War Pigs. I also know how important and influential this album is to rock and to metal. What I didn't realize is that this is a great album from start to finish.
