Reviews (page 7 of 16)

This is what blew up Metal as a genere. This albums importance is priceless. The most important album of Metal and still one of the very best

A classic.

Brother, it's Paranoid

This was really good. Most songs relied heavily on guitar hooks, but not to the point of being monotone. Each song was unique and easily distinguishable from the rest. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of the genre, I really enjoyed this album. 4.5 stars

The album was really chill, I really liked the guitar solos and the drum solos. I wasn’t really used to hearing songs that weren’t lyrically dense, thats why I’m rating it a 4.7. Final rating: 4.7/5, Best songs: The entire album. Overall: It’s really great for my first ever album on this platform. My brother suggested this to me.

5 stars.

This is an obvious 5. There's really not much to say - just absolute bangers from start to finish.

Riffs, rhythm and rasping vocals

Insanely good. One of the most solid openings in the music industry. It's a little long and it has some downs, but it's a masterpiece.

A TOP 10 album!!!!!!!!!

ord är överflödiga. en tidlös klassiker

It's really good

“I love you first four Black Sabbath records.” This is actually my least favorite of the four but it’s still amazingly wonderful.

You want to talk about essential? You want to talk about genre defining? Or important? Fuck it, this is it right here. Possibly the single most fitting album ever released for those discussions. I distinctly remember a comment I made to my dad after I heard Black Sabbath for the first time. I said they were “everything I wanted Metallica to be”. Still really not sure what that means, and it didn’t stand the test of time. I respect both of those bands equally now, but Metallica is no Black Sabbath. No band will ever truly be like Black Sabbath. Especially not that beginning line up with Ozzy. That is one of the best band line ups ever. And although I’m aware this isn’t their debut, and I’ll have a chance to talk about that in the future, this record is everything. Any characteristic that has defined metal music for the last 50 years, especially with heavy metal and doom metal, can be traced back to this. You can thank, or blame I guess, Ozzy for basically creating the form of dark and intense lyricism that would be synonymous with the genre. And every part of this album is just so fucking awesome. I mean, it starts with 3 of metal’s most legendary songs ever. Planet Caravan is a complete deviation, but a welcome break after those first two songs. It’s so beautifully hypnotic, and probably contains the best bass part from Butler on the album. It’s honestly a hard toss up between that song and War Pigs for my favorite pick. But this album is by no means front loaded. The second half highlights their doom metal roots better. Rat Salad is mostly composed of amazing solo bits from Ward, and I’m such a huge fan of his drumming. It feels very jazz influenced, and his chops plus his dynamics and control are amazing to hear from a metal drummer. I’m really just a fan boy for every member of this line up. Ozzy is THE metal frontman, and Tony Iommi’s guitar parts are glorious. Everyone remembers the first time they heard War Pigs. It also may just be the remaster, but this album sounds incredible, and better than a lot of stuff bands would put out 20 to 25 years later. This album will never be overrated in my mind. Because it deserves every ounce of praise and love it has ever been given. Simply one of the best albums ever made. Rating: 10/10!

war pigs has to be one of the greatest intros of all time. my favorite sabbath album.

5/5. Groundbreaking album that still holds up.

THE SHIT!

hell yeah

Good Old Ozzy

I've listened to this album before and it has aged like a fine wine. On their second album, Black Sabbath was able to perfect their formula for the early formations of heavy metal music. The songwriting and mix are impeccable so I can hear every member have multiple shining moments in the spotlight. Every track is a classic in its regard, even deep cuts such as the slow gaze of "Planet Caravan" and the short instrumental "Rat Salad." Iconic riffs are paired with timeless lyrics of destruction, be it of the world at large through war or of self by partaking in drugs. Maybe the sequencing of tracks could have been a smidge better like the drop in tempo from “Paranoid” to “Planet Caravan”, but that is a minor nitpick. If you've not heard Paranoid before, then please take the time to listen.

One of my favorite Sabbath albums. Just amazing start to finish.

Perfekt.

Such an influential and genre defining album. Great drumming and guitar playing throughout, super catchy riffs. I never really noticed how strong of a part the bass plays in almost every song; really great bass tone and cool counter melodies. I am not the biggest fan of Ozzy's voice but it fits here and he has some catchy melodies. side note: despite being iconic I think this album cover is kind of ass. Their first album looks so spooky and this one just looks lame. Also the font looks like a spaghetti western or local mexican restaurant

The birth of heavy metal. Hell yeah

Fantastic more than 50 years later

An album full of absolute classics. One of the all-time greats.

Iconic

Top ten best albums ever

Such a good album. I somehow forgot that I use to listen to it quite often. I thought that I was going to listen to this for the first time only recognizing some of the names of some of the tracks. But relistening to it now flooded all the memories of listening to it all the time back in high school. So thanks for that. Excellent album.

The fact that it features a few of the greatest guitar riffs ever played pretty much guarantees this is a good album, but there is also zero filler here, not a single missed beat, and many interesting ideas to boot (Planet Caravan?!). Fantastic. Best song: War Pigs

Not enough stars in the sky to rate this one. Proof that God and Satan are best friends, or at least were college roommates.

Entire album of classics, spawning a new genre! Favourite track: Ironman Other picks: War pigs, Paranoid & Planet Caravan

the most influential metal album of all time. so many genres and subgenres came from their music.

Legendary

Wow. Colour me impressed. I always avoid Black Sabbath because I know the song Paranoid and it's totally fine but all the hype surrounding Ozzy Osbourne and his family kind of put me off. Cannot deny this album is an effin masterpiece. Not a "hard rock" album listener generally however this album is *chef's kiss*.

Quantum leap forward from the debut, which is saying something. Not a weak track on one of the greatest heavy metal albums of all time. if there's a weak link it's actually Ozzy as instrumentation is so fresh and complex the vocals can't help but come over as slightly simplistic, great frontman though he is. It works, as Rush do with Geddy. Quibbles, Five stars.

Paranoid combines the two strands of Black Sabbath's early sound - atmospheric goth horror and fuzzy blues power-trio rock - into a an avalanche of terrifying sludge: heavy riffs that come in two speeds but just won't stop pouring out, banshee vocals wailed from the depths, powerful rangy bass, all-over the kit drumming, and, most importantly, the concept of some kind of man, but of iron?! The seeds are sown: stoner and doom metal, thrash metal, speed metal, hair metal and even punk, post-hardcore and grunge are all here in germinal form. It's always funny how Ozzy's vocal melodies are just the riffs - total idiot song writing that still kicks.

Oh hell yes. Let’s go. Crank it! 1970 y’all. Ridiculous. War pigs. Heavy. Ominous. Bass going crazy under the solo. Opening with such a long song sets a mood for the album Paranoid - nothing to add that hasn’t already been said 3 atmospheric broody dark. Not high energy but nice psychedelic and artistic Iron man - coming off Planet Caravan, maybe thinking it’s the end of side A, THUMP THUMP THUMP reminds you of what you’re listening to. Back in the pool, everybody! That breakdown. Melting minds Exceptional track order so far Side B - electric funeral - similar to war pigs starting side A. sludgy. Hand of doom- dynamic journey. Exceptional Good finish. Good groove. 5star

Album #133 and the easiest 'I see the cover, I give 10 stars' so far. I don't always listen to Metal, but when I do, most of it is music that walks on the doomy sludgey stone (heh) pavement Black Sabbath has laid. And fantastically laid, great in its own right, not just as a foundation. I've had their debut album earlier and while it must have been mindblowing on its release - the title track! - , they still sounded like a blues band across the album. In Paranoid, they really found and developed the ~thing~. It's a great thing!

# Playlist track - Faeries Wear Boots # Notes - Weird-ass amazing cover art +1 star - Paranoid and the memories of playing "Rock and Roll Racing" +1 star - "I am Iron Man" +1 star - The worst track (Rat Salad) is still good +1 star - Shaped what it even means to play Metal music +1 star. - But seriously, this is an amazing album.

It’s a perfect rock album

9 / 10 Hard Rock primigenio. Ha superado el paso del tiempo perfectamente.

Legendary early Metal album.

War Pigs Paranoid Iron Man Electric Funeral Hand Of Doom Fairies Wear Boots

One of my all time favorites

War Pigs was the original title

Absolute metal classic

epic revolutionary classic

A classic, short and sweet.

endnu et album jeg vidste ville være en 5'er inden jeg satte den på. For evigt en kæmpe banger, og jeg foretrækker egentlig stadig Master of Reality. Vilde år for Black Sabbath. Min eneste kontrære mening om det her album er Hand of Doom > Paranoid og Iron Man

Den her plade er så svine fed. Mere defineret "metal" i lyden end den forrige plade.

PERO SIIIIIIIIIIIII 9/10

Classic Sabbath & Ozzy. I've loved this album since I was in middle school many many years ago. My mother had this on vinyl and I fell in love with it through her. Not a bad song on this album. Absolutely rips. Standout Tracks: War Pigs, Paranoid, Iron Man

What can I say about the definitive Black Sabbath album? Apart from the title track "Paranoid", we also have "War Pigs", "Iron Man", "Electric Funeral", and "Fairies Wear Boots".

Easiest 5 ever. This album is front to back perfect musical chemistry.

Absolute blast of a record and a heavy metal essential classic.

I never listened to a lot of Black Sabbath, but this was an amazing experience. Listened to it multiple times and enjoyed it a lot. The album also had huge influence on the metal scene. 5/5

Great album. After listening to their debut earlier, its amazing how much this pushed them to the next level.

One of the best of its era, one of the best of its genre. A seminal work that holds up today and will stand the test of time.

One of my favorites. War Pigs is an awesome way to open the album and Fairies Wear Boots is a great way to end it. Planet Caravan was always my least favorite because it killed the momentum around Paranoid, but I think it's necessary when listening to the entire album.

Who can resist this record? It’s simply magical. Everything is right here.

7/8 are bangers. Metal+blues perfection.

One of my favourite albums. Of the first 6 with Ozzy, it's not my favourite (where you at 'Master of Reality'?), but for this list it's definitely an easy 5* also, I just bought the red & black vinyl reissue of it, so this is great timing.

It has THAT Black Sabbath song on it. And you don't even have to know which one I mean by that.

A perfect early metal album.

Transformational music by the G.O.A.T. band of the mid rock and roll era.

Yeah this one rips. Had a few jam sessions disguised as LP's in this process but this one is something else. Musically inventive and wild as hell for the time period. Great album.

I'm now 746 albums into this list, and something that I've noticed is that albums that have pioneered genres are in most cases not the best ones. Ideas and guts aplenty, but not the ability to really put it into cohesive songwriting (yet) And then there's this one. Not from the sunny beaches of California, but from the grey streets of Birmingham, a polluted city that was being rebuilt after WWII bombings with brutalist monstrosities. And such a city makes way for the first two albums of Black Sabbath, albums that still reverberate throughout the ages. If you have War Pigs, Paranoid, Planet Caravan and Iron Man on side A, showcasing Iommi and Butlers quality with the downtuned sounds. Osbourne's lyrics have also taken a major step forward here, with War Pigs' anti-war rhetoric still very much on point 55 years later. Only minor attach on this album is that on side B they're giving Bill Ward his spotlight as well. And while a really good drummer, the drum-solos break the album up and feel unnecessary. So maybe not perfect, but nigh on. And one of the most influential albums on hardrock, stoner rock and heavy metal there ever was.

Absolutely sublime.

War pigs will be played when I am president

Legendary opening track and everyone knows Iron Man. A good heavy album that created my favorite genre. A great listen and happy to see heavier stuff on this list!

De e Paranoid av Black Sabbath kom igen

One of the foundational albums of heavy metal, Paranoid is also a staple of classic rock. Combining dark imagery with heavy riffs, Paranoid sets the template for everything from hair metal to death metal. A true classic.

Iconic Black Sabbath even thou not my favorite genre I recognize greatness when I hear it so as a critic personally a 4 but as an impartial critic of the genre a definite 5

Damn, that was good.

Simply groundbreaking. Excellent guitar riffs. Dark and nightmarish vocals that the world had not seen before. Good bass work. Those drums in Rat Salad! So many contemporary artists derive inspiration and direction from these pioneers. I can't say that I didn't enjoy any moment of it and I would easily place this in any masterpiece category.

After laying down the rules of Metal with their debut, Black Sabbath released this their second release, easily one of the greatest metal albums of all time, cementing their place as the true inventors of the genre. A favorite of mine for sure.

i was like half listening while i worked and i couldn’t stop nodding along to the beat. also listened on the subway home. very good. i kind of loved it. i didn’t realize Ozzy Osborne (i think that’s how u spell it) sang in black sabbath and he fucking killed it

War pigs - He’s got a good voice! Iron man - sick opening Electric funeral - I also like this one quite a bit. Very bleak lyrics though lol. This album was great, a W for me

Imagine releasing Black Sabbath and then nine months later releasing Paranoid, 70s Sabbath were on some different shit.

Did you not know I needed this in my life

This album was way better than I was expecting, and I already knew it would be good going in, considering it has three of the most famous Sabbath songs. It starts off with a bang. There aren't many songs as epic as War Pigs. The slow build, the ominous siren, the almost chant-like singing before the "Oh, lord yeah!" and the song really takes off. Classic. One of the greatest anti-war songs ever. Then, straight into another classic, Paranoid, before slowing down for the psychedelic prog of Planet Caravan, and then right into Iron Man. What a sequence of songs. The first half of the album is hard to beat, but the back half is also amazingly strong. Hand of Doom was a particular standout for me among the songs I hadn't heard before. There are so many great riffs and solos on this album, amazing drumming, and Ozzy's in top form. I love the mix of metal and psychedelia, and I never really paid attention to how almost proggy the band could get. Based on the albums I've already reviewed, you might think I'm not a big metal fan. But this is the kind of metal I love — hard-hitting, but melodic, with inspiration from jazz and blues (or symphonic) — not that tuneless thrash stuff. It's also funny to me that Ozzy became such a lightning rod for the satanic panic backlash, because lyrically, this album is everything true Christians should be all for — anti-war, anti-drug, Revelation-like themes of satanic evil dooming the world to apocalyptic destruction. They obviously never listened to the music they so loudly decried. Anyway, I digress. Fantastic album. 5/5 for me.

Another classic Black Sabbath album.

God I love black sabbath

אני יודע שזה קלאסיקה, כולם יודעים שזה קלאסיקה 10 מתוך 10

No metal band, including Dabbath themselves, has ever made a better album.

Fantastic from beginning to end. The drums on this album are phenomenal; groovy and full of fills. Guitar riffs that are simultaneously heavy and kinda funky. Just all around great hard rock jammin’!

YES!! A classic. Iommi riffs coupled with Ozzy's iconic voice. The foundation for all future metal.

Classic. I’ve heard the hits but. It the entire album.

It's hard to overstate the influence of this album. Entire genres have spawned from this album, and it still sounds fresher and more interesting than much of what has come in the 54 years since it was released.

War Pigs, Iron Man and Paranoid…all timers. Always loved Ozzy, but really heard the guitars this go round…amazing.

One of the Best albums of hard rock of all times, Ozzy Osbourne great vocals and Tomy Iomi a Master of guitars

Das ist ja mal eine Überraschung! Kenn ich doch einige der Stücke, gefallen mir auch.

Great album to powder coat a 3’ aluminum fence to.

The birth of heavy metal as we know it. First record my dad ever gifted me and it’s absolute flames. Perfect mix of dark energy with rock & roll. Paranoid is one of the only radio songs that’s rotted with replay so bad that I can still genuinely bump without cringing. 5 stars and not even in my top 4 Sabbath Albums 🫣

Gods of Metal

I haven't listened to this since I was a teenager. it really does hold up! Classic and iconic heavy metal.

10/10 amazing album

War Pigs Paranoid Iron Man Electric Funeral Hand of Doom Jack the Stripper Easy to listen to. Classic metal. It’s a solid album with several bangers. Will always listen to again. Lights a fire under my ass

fuck yeahhhhhh finally some good fucking music

10/5, don't even need to listen to the whole album because I already do pretty often. They basically popularised heavy metal and will always be the goat of early heavy metal in my heart. Each song is really unique, good riffs, insane voice. always refreshing

During the COVID years me and my roommates would get get stupid high and play Battlefield while blasting this album - so I have very fond, albeit hazy, memories of this album. The irony of this is not lost on me. I think this album is revolutionary in several senses of the word. They pioneered the metal genre with this album. It's crazy to think that this came out just a year after Abbey Road and I think this album pushes rock forward in a meaningful way. It's also revolutionary in concept. They come after just about every axis of power in modern society. Fuck them war pigs, this is a nearly perfect album.

Goodamn

Throughout the whole 60's rock bands era, there was a lot of psychedelic influence. And it all led to what Black Sabbath in 1970 made. A peak psychedelic hard rock.

Classic banger, this a 5, but Black Sabbath a 6

Un clasico. Los papás del heavy y no tamos creyendo en nadie. 10/10

Clásico

War pigs/lukes wall-10.9 GENERALS GATHERED IN THEIR MASSES!!!!!! Paranoid-9.5 Planet Caravan-14.5 I FEEL LIKE I AM ON AN OTHER PLANET LISTENING TO THIS!!!!! It sounds like British TOOL Iron Man-10 Electric funeral-10 Hand Of Doom-18.5 Pretty good song if you ask me. Rat Salad-7.5 kinda good, but the drum solo was glorious. Jack the Stripper/Fairies Wear Boots-20 THIS IS A BANGER!!!!!

\m/ \m/ Essential Heavy Metal record \m/ \m/

So good.

Well of course I've heard it a million times since it came out when I was a kid. But like with many other albums on this list, I haven't listened to it for a while. This album holds up amazingly well for it's age. The cleaned up production helps, but you have to give credit to the band members themselves. Great musicianship ( that remastering lets me hear properly for the first time ), songwriting, and they're all at the top of their game here. The album that helped launch a whole genre of music.

When I'm in the mood for this genre of music, very few albums satisfy like Paranoid. As many years pass and bands come and go, the energy is solid and the hard blues and inklings of weirdness are just delicious.

Amazing!

I knew i was going to love this almum even before i was given this album to lissen to, i was already im love with a few of its songs:D I loved that there was a good variety of lengths to the songs. There are almost no skips in this album:) My favourits from this album is ironman, warpigs and paranoid, but i know that when i continue to lissen to this album i will grow to love them all:))

From the first note to the last note, this album is a sonic masterpiece. With illusions of nightmares and dreamscapes, this album left me awestruck. I like me some Black Sabbath but have only really listened to it sporadically. Songs 1-9, not a weak moment. Every note is so deliberate and comes with so much energy. All instruments are played masterfully including Ozzy’s vocals. The drum fills take it to another level with bass pushing the rhythm forward. The lead guitar dances all over the tracks. Planet Caravan is a dark horse for best song on the album.

Well It's Black Sabbath, I mean what else do you wanna know other than IT'S BLACK SABBATH.

So many hits on one album. Didn't realize they were all from paranoid.

Not actually my favourite Sabbath album but it's still an absolute banger. That opening one-two of War Pigs / Paranoid is pretty hard to beat

Oh boy... straight 5. No words needed. The guy sounds like crazy train. 🤔

Great fucking album, the guitar work is INSANE on every single song, the lyrics are so cool and never throughout the album does it get stale or boring or feel like any songs dragged on for too long.

I have owned this album on all the various types of media from 8-track to CD. It is a masterpiece and I could give a callout on every song. I’ll keep it to side 2. Love the push/pull, slow muddy walk of Electric Funeral, the methodic chugging of Hand of Doom, the drum clinic on Rat Salad, and Fairies wear Boots is probably my favorite Sabbath song. One of my personal top 10 albums of all time, I give it a 5.5/5 ( when you need that extra boost…)

Can you imagine the reaction to this heavy music in the late 60s/early 70s?! The true pioneers of heavy metal. 5/5

A classic among classics.

I love Black Sabbath and this is my favorite album of theirs. They spawned a whole genre of music inspired by their version of dark riff driven rock.

If this album didn’t exist entire genres would have been created

Klassiker!

Another high school classic

favorite song: War Pigs / Luke's Wall least favorite song: Rat Salad rating: 10/10

Such a breakthrough album in the "heavy metal" genre. It set the standard of downtuning and is full of classic riffs that inspired so many players afterward.

When my husband was a kid he thought that fairies wearing boots were dancing with a bra. 🤣

ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!

Fierce

Classic rock at its best. My favorite Sabbath album!

Thoughts before listening: This is a very good album by a monster band. There are some outright classics on this album, including the title track which has always been over of my favorite by them. Looking forward to listening Review: "War Pigs", "Paranoid", "Iron Man", and "Fairies Wear Boots" alone would make this a 5-star album, but even the deep cuts are killer. Absolutely one of the most influential albums of all time, essentially creating the metal genre. I've always loved that despite the crazy places metal would go, the originators were just doing a slightly more distorted take on 60s blues rock. Easy 5-stars.

War Pigs / Luke's Wall - 4.5/5 Paranoid- 5/5 Planet Caravan- 4.3/5 Iron Man- 5/5 Electric Funeral- 5/5 Hand of Doom- 4.7/5 Rat Salad- 3.8/5 Jack the Stripper / Fairies Wear Boots- 4.3/5 Total- 4.6/5

Brings me back to my older brother in high school. This was his favorite and his band would cover all of them surprisingly well for their age. Amazing album with the tone of the guitars and wonderful feel driving it all forward. Every track brings something a little different and stands up to the 50+ years of time. My hair grew 6 inches while listening to it.

Top 10 of all time.

Classics.

AI SIM PORRA, PAPAIS DO METAL, SABADO NEGRO, se eu pudesse eu dava 6 estrelas.

I had no idea that i was a black Sabbath fan.

And on the 8th day God created Black Sabbath Paranoid. He looked at his work, smiled and then rested knowing there would never be another.

What a blessing to have been granted the opportunity to observe the Sabbath twice this week. Killer album. It steps in where the debut album leaves off, and ups the ante by dropping in a few classics. While I might prefer their first album, I think you have to say this one is better. And War Pigs is one of the best side one track ones of all time.

Songs that have stood the test of time. Guitar riffs that are a rite of passage for anyone picking up an ax. And ozzy is one of a kind. 4.5 so giving them a 5 for respect.

The album algorithm gods smiled upon us and bookended the week with Sabbath’s first two albums. Paranoid has the radio hits, but I think I enjoyed their debut more front to back. I rated that album 4*, which is an obvious mistake in hindsight. The fact that they gave the world these two albums within just eight months of each other is a miracle. 4.5/5

Silly good

Timeless classic.

Every song is a hit.

Strong instrumentals. great singing A monument of art.

Classic

A leap forward from their first album with no less than three iconic riffs. The writing and production is raised. The band is great and Ozzy is in good form. War Pigs is one of the all time great songs.

What to say about this album that has already not been said? Masterpiece, Classic and Perfect!

Great 70’s Rock n Roll! Progenitors of Heavy Metal!

Where does Heavy Metal begin? I wonder. hmmm. RIGHT HERE. This album is still so relevant today.

Sabbath is Sabbath. Tony Iommi's guitar playing is legendary, Ozzy's voice is unique, and they cultivate such a vibe that it's impossible not to like at least one song. When an album opens with "War Pigs" you know the album is going to be fire

Doidera

Baddass album

I'm not a metal fan. This is a straight-up banging album.

classic metal, genre defining

this album is amazing. there are so many highlights on this album, many being the outstanding riffs and drum rolls sprinkled all throughout the tracklist. this was such a fun listen and kept me entertained the whole runtime. i had only heard the obvious classics from this album, but im so glad i have finally experienced the album in full! my favorite song on the album is War Pigs / Luke's Wall, it's one of the best openers to an album I've ever heard. each song was quality and i loved every single minute of this album, and for that reason..i rate this album a 5!

No pude escuchar todavia

The most important album ever created. Fuck the beatles

HELL YEAH. Incroyable album.

not a bad album to keep you awake when you are just super tired on a gray and cloudy day.

Excellent second album.

Very strong start to this album with War Pigs, Paranoid, and Iron Man. Even some of the lesser known tracks like Rat Salad and Hand of Doom kick ass. Turn up the speaker and jam.

I didn't live through Satanic Panic, so after hearing this I just have to ask...THIS is what people were up in arms about 40, 50 years ago? All the Betties who had their britches in bunches back in the day need to give black metal a try. This is paler than their skirt-concealed, taboo ankles in comparison. They missed out on some great fucking music while they were busy being Paranoid.

What an album! It's truly astonishing that this album came out in 1970. Paranoid and Iron Man are obviously great, but War Pigs is also spectacular. I love the drum solo in Rat Salad. The final track is awesome and the brief tonal departure for planet caravan is perfect.

All Hail the Ozzman

Know this metal rock album well.

Such an iconic album for metal, can hardly believe it is over 50 years old now. Barely topping 40 minutes and only 8 songs, I was thinking of just giving 4 stars, but once those last 2 jams played I had to keep it at 5. Favorite track: "Paranoid" 5/5

Awesome. Never realised I was a Black Sabbath fan until now!

easy 5 star

- If I could give this a 6 I would - Insane vocal delivery - Great variety of sounds that keeps the album engaging all the way through

- my goodness what a masterpiece - the beginning of metal, but also so varied - the band is so talented and Ozzy has the perfect voice

Still as impactful all these years later but I can't imagine listening to this in 1970 and how much it would blow your mind.

Incredible! A classic

Top 5 album of all time for me. Every song is perfect and the flow of mood between songs is perfect.

An album that sits atop the Heavy Metal Mountain.

Never really listened to any track off this entirely until 1001 albums. A lot more variety going on here than anticipated. Tony Iommi is a far more interesting guitarist than originally understood him to be. Production is pretty good in terms of subtle shades adding dimension to some simple but creative ideas. Ozzy's voice is obviously super young, lacking the experience (and studio trickery) to create the full blown evil howl of his subsequent work. There are some lesser tracks that get a bit repetitive in an annoying way, not in a drone, overtoning sort of way. All in all, excellent but probably not something I want to listen to much.

I have heard all those songs seperately but never together - it went so hard all together. What a groundbreaking album, I can see why so many have followed in their footsteps. My favorites were Electric Funeral, Hand of Doom, and Jack the Stripper/Fairies Wear Boots.

I loved it I have grown up listening to those songs eventhough that wasn't my generation. It took me back to memories of sneaking out at night listening to music in my friend's basements. Like all my friends. Lol

War Pigs/ Luke’s Wall - 4 Paranoid - 5 Planet Caravan - 5 Iron Man - 5 Electric Funeral - 4 Hand of Doom - 4 Rat Salad - 3 Jack the Stripper / Fairies Wear Boots - 4 Been on a Black Sabbath binge lately, I’ve only listened to their first four albums but this is probably my favorite so far. Songs like Paranoid and Iron Man deliver what I was expecting from the band, but tracks like Planet Caravan and Orchid off of Master of Reality really took me for a surprise and gave me a new appreciation for the band. 5 stars all day

From the first riffs on War Pigs to the last notes of Faries Wear Boots, this album is perfection. The ultimate metal masterpiece. Timeless.

Un cincazo

This album is perfect. It was one of the first two metal and introduced some of the first sub genres. All of the songs are expertly crafted with Ozzy's haunting vocals that suit the darker, doomier environment that essentially didn't exist until Black Sabbath's first two albums. Even in the lighter moments Ozzy's vocals shine. The true star of the show however is the band, Tony with his crushing simple but heavy riffs, Geezer Butler's rock steady bass rhythms, and Bill Wards very jazzy way of playing drums created a fantastic dynamic that set the tone for future heavy metal bands. Anybody looking to get into metal should start here, not Metallica, not Iron Maiden, not Judas Priest, not Motorhead, Black Sabbath should be every prospective metalheads starting point.

Great album, start to finish, great sound, often imitated but never surpassed

Such a banger

Fucks hard

Amazing

More intense and faster than the debut with seemingly endless memorable song elements. A+

Så jävla stark inledning! Snorbra. War pigs. 5 Paranoid. 5 Planet Caravan: 4 Iron Man: 4 Electric funeral: 4, oj vad likt Alice in Chains "dirt". Hand of Doom: 4 Rat salad: 3,5 Fairies wear boots: 5 Lyssnar på repeat under helgen. Inte en död sekund. Otroligt tajt skiva. Ett av få album (hittills som är bra rakt igenom). Förstår att kommande musiker inspirerats.

it opens with the multiple-awesome-riffs song, war pigs. just that alone is a 5 already i dont think i need to say more. the A side has all the hits but B side hits like a train just as much. i tend to be harsh on metal because its not really my thing, but this album i totally fucking respect, its a shame that such sound was lost amongst the trying of making the genre heavier and heavier while forgetting the genius mind behind the start of it. like all the parts in hand of doom and the second part on electric funeral, thats fucking jazz man, where did it all go? there's probably more recent bands out there with this sound but theyre not as famous as their other metal buddies. anyway, best metal ever made.

Everything on this is good, the influence is huge, how can I not give it a 5. Will I listen to again: 100%

Fuck yeah!

Great stuff. Can see why this is considered one of the templates for heavy metal.

a classic metal BANGER

Masterwork.

Iron man gets this an instant 5, but the rest of the album gets the same rating without it. Still sounds as good today as ever

Great album. Found a couple of songs to add to the playlist from what I had already heard.

BADASS

11 out of 5. Stone cold classic. Even if War Pigs was the only good song on this album, it would still be legendary. It is not the only good song on the album. * I already had this one on vinyl

Listened on repeat. Not something I’d have listened to on my own accord. Can understand why Black Sabbath earned a large following.

1.8.24

Features some great songs, I've enjoyed hearing most of it.

5/5. One of those albums where every single song is great! While Sabbath is known for Paranoid, I like the deep tracks like Planet Caravan even better!

Cue epic montage

very iconic, pioneering sound for the date. all the tracks hit hard with vocals, riffs and drums alike. all the songs are great with no low points.

One of the all time great hard rock albums. Forget paranoid, war pigs and iron man which you've heard a billion times and you still have some really great tracks like hand of doom, fairies wear boots and planet caravan.

Inte en enda tråkig sekund

Classic Early metal, makes me wish coven's witchcraft destroys minds and reaps souls was on this list, anyway this album is the most primo shit

Such a classic! I was in high school when this came out and part of the joy of the album was that it annoyed the hell out of my parents….

Was there any surprise that I recognized the album's first half? Not from me anyway; Dad listened to WEBN, the Cincinnati hard rock station, while I was growing up, so classic hard rock? Was part of the soundtrack of my life. I listened to the album without looking up the lyrics; most were white noise. Looking them up later on genius.com was a bit of a revelation. And not simultaneously because of putting them into the context of their time, place, and influences? Both the influences on them at the time and the influence the album and the band had on later music. Of course, the lyrics are talking about the Vietnam War, punks, skinheads, drugs, and hippies! I hadn't thought to put a Black Sabbath album into my background music rotation, but Paranoid is now on it.

Funny that I'm so much more familiar with The Cardigans cover of Iron Man that it's essentially the primary source in my head. Turned completely on its head into a gentle ballad, it's great. I will definitely have heard Faith No More's War Pigs first as well, however that's more or less a note for note reproduction. A good cover no doubt, but not an exciting one. Those two songs are fabulous, War Pigs probably my favourite BS song of all. That into, The intricate drums underlay the monster riffs, it's just superb. Paranoid is great but I've heard it too much. Obviously this record is a classic. Planet Caravan is really good, and different. Hand of Doom the best of the rest, I'll overlook Rat Salad's Moby Dick-esque drum solo with a riff jam because this is undoubtedly a five star album.

I already knew most of the songs on this album, but I never listened to the full track list in order. I think my favorite track is “War Pigs.” Pretty great stuff.

Много яки 🦔

A vital album for 20th century.

The first half is undeniably legendary with war pigs, paranoid to planet caravan (kind of a jazzy/quiet cut that I just heard) to iron man. The second half didn’t hit as hard and felt more like a showcase of their playing more than hard hitting songs but it is a worthwhile listen and classic metal album

Spitze

Das erste heavy metal album, großes Kino

Classic. One of the best rock albums of all time.

absolute banger of an album - definitely see the influences on bands like Wolfmother. Wide range of energy, from jazzier slow jams to frenetic high paced guitars and crazy drums. Huge album, big fan.

An absolute classic!

Very solid album. Incredible for 1970. Includes some of the most famous songs like Iron Man, Paranoid, and War Pigs. I appreciate the antiwar sentiment in this album, but it's the birth of metal that makes this album so great.

Absolute monster. Must have sounded so fucking scary to contemporary listeners, too.

Iron Man, Paranoid and War Pigs all on this one album. It sets the prototype for heavy metal, yet there’s some weird soft songs too.

One of the best albums of all time.

Absolute classic. ENERGYYYY. Favorite Track: War Pigs

Might be my #1 album. Right up there with the Led Zeppelin classics, Fleetwood Mac Rumors, etc. Not every song is a classic, but the influence and impact of this record on music cannot be overstated. The heaviest hits from Bill Ward and the heavy metal guitar and bass riffs, blending a groovy, syncopation with a dark aesthetic that birthed several genres of music over the next 10 years. War Pigs is probably the best anti-war anthem ever written. . .

5/5. A classic heavy metal album, the origin for those about to rock. Each cut on here is memorable and unique, some slow and ethereal while others heavy and dark. Mostly the latter. There is just honestly not a bad song on here, hard to find fault.

Can't beat this album. One of the best, and I feel like the songs are some of the metal songs that really connected with me the most as a kid.

Not much I can add that hasn't already been said about this album. I could listen to war pigs on repeat and it will never get old

Awesome

Classic. Compared to the schlock played these days, this album is a 5. I remember listening to this in high school. Even though it had been out for several years at that point, there was really nothing else like it.

Man, you just can't touch early Black Sabbath. Must be 6 albums in a row in about as many years from their inception, and every single one is a damn near metal classic. At first it's hard to get past the incredible big hits like 'War Pigs', 'Paranoid' and 'Iron Man', but on repeated listens the rest clicks pretty quickly. 'Electric Funeral' is one of the doomiest riffs you'll ever hear, while 'Hand of Doom' and the closer 'Fairies Wear Boots' just show how Sabbath just had an endless bag of badass riffs and hooks they pulled from, while not being afraid to play around with atypical song structures. I might still be in the camp that puts their next album 'Master of Reality' above this, but to call this anything less than a genre defining classic would be plain wrong.

A classic. Not a bad song on the album

classic hard rock

One of my favorite metal albums of all-time!!!! I love Tony Iommi's riffs with Ozzy as an eccentric lead singer. I love every song on here and would give it more stars if I could! Favorite Song(s): All of them!

This album shreds.

The invention of heavy metal. Must listen.

I don't have much to say about this album that hasn't already been said so I'll just reaffirm that it's still an absolute banger that goes insanely hard from end to end. War Pigs is the rare song where all of its covers hit as hard as the original song, especially the Cake one; Paranoid and Iron Man are some of the most hype songs ever and Hand of Doom is also a standout among standouts. Even Planet Caravan is a nice change of pace after two super energetic songs. I've always wondered how they came up with the cover art.

Easy gold. Rock out.

great wizard man

Perfection

Great record.

Love: Paranoid Iron Man Hand of Doom Jack the Stripper Planet Caravan Like: War Pigs Electric Funeral Rat Salad Meh: Nope:

One of the greatest albums of all time.

All time classic, banger after banger.

A classic album by the great godfathers of metal music. This one is full of bangers back to back.

Hacía muchos años que no escuchaba el album completo. Impresionante.

Lots of classics on this one. War Pigs is such a good song!

This is one of the classic albums of all time. What’s not to like? Groundbreaking for the rock industry at the time and it still holds up well today.

I’ve never listened to this album before. My first time listening to Planet Caravan. I’ve never wanted to live IN a song like this one.

Great album. Guitar tone is heavy and the rhythm section comes through feeling powerful. Definitely understand why this is considered one of the best metal albums ever

Einfach fett

aiiiii😍

Love this album. It's tough to pretend to be objective when it's one I've known and loved for years.

Rating: 10/10 One of the greatest heavy metal albums of all time, an absolute classic. Incredible songwriting and riffs, each song is very memorable. No weak moments on this album, unbelievable this came out in 1970. Favorite songs: pretty much all of them. Least favorite song: Rat Salad.

easy 5

Can't go wrong with Black Sabbath!

Amazi g

Classic album. How can you not love the way the album starts with War Pigs?

Love this album despite not liking heavy metal

The true source and origin of all stoner/ sludge rock. If it wasn't for this album then there's so many bands who would have either not existed at all, or would have gone down a different route entirely. It's not perfect, a bit rough around the edges here and there, with a drum solo instrumental track that serves little purpose. But it's close enough for a well-deserved 5-stars. One of the things I love about this album is that there's not much in the way of fancy guitar solos and everything sounds musically achievable, even though there's undoubtedly a lot of talent on display. I strongly feel that this is what led so many other bands to get together and try to copy this style of music.

ICONIC

i fucking love this album cause it's really all of the stuff i'm into. anti war sci fi folklore apocalypse music, has depth but is also just easy to rock out to. some of the most recognizable riffs ever. faves: war pigs, planet caravan, fairies wear boots

Fantastic

100% the best and most iconic heavy metal album of all time.

Alright, going from one of the worst-rated to one of the highest-rated should be a cinch yeh it's a classic

Good songs all around. Kind of like a greatest hits album.

What an incredible album. Black Sabbath came out hot with their first album, and this album takes them to the next level. It feels like so many great metal albums could not have been made if this album was not made first. It works well both as a standalone artwork and a harbinger of things to come. And it fucking kicks ass 5/5

Holy paranoia. This one is brilliant. Catchy, memorable riffs played over a grungy metal sound that I would've called derivative if it was from 20 years later, but is pretty revolutionary for its time. Incredible restraint shown on all instruments, demonstrating that the most effective musician plays what's right for the song. And yet, all instruments (particularly the drums and bass) have countless outstanding moments that make for great replayability. Intense, energetic, and impassioned. I love it. 5/5

The grandfather of metal, Ozzy at his best!

Absolute Partybanger mit dabei :)

4.5/5 Only the second best version of War Pigs but still a banger

Great drums

Good stuff 👍

Iconic amazing album

That's the stuff!

Love this album

One of the best listening experiences I've gotten from an album on this list so far. Can't even describe how amazing this sounded but all I can tell you is in immediately running this back as soon as I finish this review. This what metal sounds like at its absolute peak. 5 out of fucking 5 motherfucking stars.

this album fucks !

A classic album and the apex of Black Sabbath. Nearly every song on this album can be heard on classic rock stations today. Tony Iommi’s signature guitar sound is fully realized, Bill Wards drumming, while fainter and set back further than a modern production would choose, complements the songs perfectly, and of course Ozzie’s vocals are why he’s a metal icon. While I’m not a Sabbath super fan or anything, I surprised myself with how much I was enjoying listening to this in the car.

Love it
