Reviews (page 10 of 13)
Generally enjoyable, if far less punchy than the Stooges material.
Good album, enjoyed the first songs, groovy beats. Last song was great too. Not necessarily my wheelhouse of music but enjoyed the 7 tracks.
Title track is solid
This is fine, David Bowie lite
The 2 big songs are absolute classics for a reason. Just all-time great songs. The rest of the songs don't live up to those, but also aren't bad.
The first half of this is really solid but the back half is a real mess.
Pretty sure this would have been a case of “way more fun live” at the time it was released, but sadly I’ll never know Also way more into the back half of this record
Despite some dated lyrics and a few underwhelming tracks, this is an enjoyable listen full of chaotic energy.
Not afraid to be eccentric. A fun and different album. Did listen while half asleep so may re-visit in the future. Some definite bops (lust for life, the passenger, neighbourhood threat) some definite underrated songs on there though.
I liked it.
Helt ok. Många låtar lite släpiga. "The passenger" testade jag att spela på piano.
Surprisingly good
Iggy's songwriting peak. Full of attitude and swagger. Does tail off a bit towards the end. Best tracks: - Lust for Life - The Passenger - Tonight Worst tracks: - Turn Blue Rating: 7/10
pra fechar o ano. pior que eu gosto do iggy pop, ignorando o fato do home ser maluquinho.
First listen. Ok.
It was okay. The title reminded me of the Lana album.
it was some great songs, it was some awful songs and the guy sounds like a creep
3/5, it was alright. Not my type.
This was ok. I didn't think this album was so poppy and at some points has Iggy Pop doing some kind of punk Frank Sinatra impersonation which is weird and doesn't really work. Lust For Life & The Passenger are the obvious stand outs.
with the stooges, iggy is punk, but apparently when he is with his solo band, the music is more rock based. iggy pop was friends with david bowie and you can tell bowie’s influence with this album. good album. highlights: “lust for life” “some weird sin” “the passenger”
I thought I liked Iggy Pop and The Stooges. But those Stooges albums were a total miss for me. Was familiar with a few of the songs on this solo album but was worried…….. Shouldn’t have been; this was pretty good. Compared to The Stooges albums, anyway.
was ok. A few good songs. Interesting narrative
Mister blikket for helheden
Average
It’s okay
I wanted to like, didnt listen much
yay david bowie
Great punk momentum and fun through most the album. Turn blue went a little too long for me.
The Passenger is a tune. Didn't know it was by Iggy Pop so that was a nice surprise. Rest of the album was quite good, but not quite enough for a 4.
Lust for life and the passenger are both bangers and will probably listen to them again in the future. Also will probably watch trainspotting soon, after lust for life made me remember about the film. The rest of the album is ok did tail off towards the end
3.75 Classic hits, but a less cohesive album.
very ok, auprised at the songs i knew
Pari megalekaa ja muuten ihan ok. 1078 levynä alkaa kisaväsymys jo painamaan...
Bitz weird aber en vibe. 3.3
Lust For Life is a kickback to 70s garage rock from the American Bowie. Strong start, holds its own all the way through. Enjoyed the old school listen (3.3*s) with the +0.1 for being American.
Have heard Iggy is a major rock legend and but never really gave a listen. Always thought he was just some strung out, shirtless weirdo but this album is quite good and I can see why it has influenced many Indy rock bands today. A lot of the tracks would fit right in amongst other alt-rock radio station hits from the past few decades. Holds up very well. Bowie and Ziggy certainly built their stage presence and styles together. The album cover is deceptive for what you get here as Iggy is far from a good boy...3.35.
I've only ever scratched the surface with Iggy through pop culture references like Trainspotting and the like. I never really paid attention and kinda just figured Iggy was an artist that I've overlooked. Lust For Life is a fun little collection of tunes. Nothing special, but solid enough to warrant a listen and make me wonder what else Iggy has. Might be something I come back to when I need to scratch a certain brit punk rock itch. 2.86 stars
Uhh, look how cute he was in 1977. Yikes, the Lust for life got him.
2 stone cold classics A lot of so-so
Two great songs, rest is the ramblings of a smackhead nonce but musically good
Freaks gonna freak. The albums aren’t all that great without the theatrics of the live show- but at least I didn’t have to skip any of the tracks.
Iggy Punk Rock. 3/5
Насколько же круто начинаются песни настолько же быстро они наскучивают.. но в целом приятное прослушивание, кроме первого трека почти ничего не вызывает желаний переслушать.. так что он на один неплохой раз
I can see why this was having a resurgence in the 00s, it sounds just like every indie rock band from that era. Decent variety of tunes.
I kinda dont like rock, but this album is good, with that david bowie as a collab, i live this, i live this, i give it a 3/5
"Lust for Life" was used in every car commercial in the early 2000s, giving it familiarity. The album was fun, upbeat, and just okay.
Decent album, enjoyable but nothing amazing
It was a perfect album for the era. 10 songs on the album and I added 5 of them to my library.
Good, not great. List for life was the only banger.
I had more fun listening to this than I anticipated. Iggy Pop is one of those undeniable characters of the music industry and his personality reflects pretty well into his music. The Passenger is a classic and was the only song I was familiar with from this album. Lust For Life is hiding a few other noteworthy tracks, such as the effervescent 'Sixteen' and 'Some Weird Sin' along with the title track. On Lust For Life, Iggy sounds like he's having a good time and that in-turn allows his listener to relax and have a good time. It isn't an album for particularly deep listening or introspection, outside of the question "how strong is your lust for life?" Top 3: 1. The Passenger 2. Fall In Love With Me 3. Turn Blue Bottom 1: Success Overall Score: 6.9/10 (3 & 1/2 Stars)
Not bad
Alright. It's all good. Too many lyrics about teenage girls. Sweet 16... more like Shut Up
yeah its influential i dont really like it that much though
One thing I’ve learned about myself from this list is that I’m an Iggy Pop fan. You can definitely hear the Bowie influences on this one, sometimes for better and sometimes for worse. Didn’t like this as much as when he’s with the Stooges (a little too poppy) but still good.
Has two undeniable hits, the rest of this sounds like a David Bowie album but not as good. Some of the songs are not that good and go over 6 minutes long. I will rate this higher than it deserves for the singles.
I know Iggy is a legend, but I found this album to be inconsistant. A couple of good songs and others that just don't resonate.
Solid Iggy / Bowie. 3.5
Some absolutely classics, but not as good as I hoped throughout
The title track “Lust For Life” and “The Passenger” are the obvious highlights of this album given their popularity. While none of the other songs quite live up to that greatness, it’s still a fun album to revisit. I can see how this album and Iggy in general are a major influence on bands like The Strokes. This album has always been a 3 for me so I’ll keep it there.
If Mick Jagger and David Bowie had a baby that speedballed, it would be Iggy Pop. I like Bowie, and I don't like Jagger. Iggy is more on the Jagger side for me, as in I'm not a huge fan. Although, I did like that Stooges album we listed to awhile back. I guess this is a good album, but it isn't something I would listen to voluntarily. Glad I heard it, though. 3
I like the energy on this album. Lust for Life is a great song. Iggy Pop has such an interesting voice. I think this one is better than the earlier album I rated. I feel like the songs are organized and structured better and not as chaotic. Dear I say mature. I also liked 'Tonight'.
并不太欣赏得来…
It was okay.
The album is a great compilation of the “Lust for Life” (mostly drugs). I love the first half of the album, but after “Tonight” I feel it becomes another album. “Turn Blue” is a mess and “Sucess” is kinda boring. I understand the experimental side but it loses the energy of the first few bangers.
i'm a big fan of 70s punk but this only has two good songs. the rest are forgettable. bowie definitely saved it from being total garbage
It’s fine, I guess, I don’t know. Lust for life is a bit of a bop, Sixteen is creepy as hell (how were 70s rock dudes all pedos?), and there was another song I recognized that was kind of good but I can’t remember what it was. 2.5 stars
Respect for creativity plus Bowie. Lust for Life is classic.
Is this punk? Post punk? I don’t know, and I don’t really care. (Subtext - beware of labels. They tend to serve someone else’s purposes.)
Iggy pop is one of those artists that I appreciate, but have never really been able to properly get into. I just much prefer the rawness and aggression of The Stooges.
Probalby my favorite Iggy Pop album so far. Very catchy
This is pretty much the missing link between two of my favorite albums, Low and “Heroes”, but is not nearly as good. Iggy starts to grate after a while, especially on Turn Blue (🥴), but there’s a few good tracks here.
Some seriously excellent songs in this album.
Don't remember many opinions on it
I didn't know David Bowie and Iggy Pop wrote Tonight together and that this was the original. That's pretty cool. Overall it's an enjoyable album, though not very outstanding. I enjoyed it more than his work with the Stooges that I have heard so far.
Some good songs
The day I discovered that Capital Inicial's song is actually a cover from Iggy Pop! Good album, but very different style of songs throughout it? Almost doesn't feel cohesive, despite them individually being good!
In jalousiebedeckter Wohnung amüsierst du dich alleine Du hörst Iggy Pop – dann fick ihn doch! The Album is great, few bangers i love lel he still makes great music (3.5/5.0)
Philip Seymour Hoffman voice: “IGGY POP!” A fun rock album. Thought it was going to be a bit more weird.
mhhh pas ma came
Lust for Life and The Passenger are both epic....the rest would be a 2. OK.
Highlights: Some weird sin, The passenger, Neighbourhood threat -Very dynamic -Sometimes it gets a bit too generic or a bit boring but nothing major -The vibe the album brings is amazing -The highs on this are REALLY good -The lows are not bad they're just meh Rating: 6.5/10
Fun vibes. I’m not all in but he’s creative
Good album from Iggy, distinctive but not too far out. Very accessible. The Passenger is a great start to the album.
6.5
Bowie's fingerprints are all over this. Sounds like Bowie but less restrained. I like it, but prefer the Stooges work for sure. Title track is fantastic tho
This was pretty good, although I couldn't wait to get that album cover off my screen
I can't believe The Passenger is almost 50 years old. The rest of the album didn't age that well though. 7/10
This was not the sort of music I thought Iggy Pop did. But that was based on how he looks and those crap ads he did quite enjoyed it though.
Lust for Life and The Passenger are a couple of awesome hits. Besides that, the album is a bit meh but certainly above average. Bowie rules. 6.5/10 (3.25/5)
Great hugely Bowie-influenced record.
ok werk
Although I'm not a big Iggy Pop fan, this is probably my favorite of his albums. It's not too crazy but still a little crazy, just right. I might like his other work more if I had listened to this first and worked into his other stuff. Not sure if I would listen to this agarin but I don't regret hearing it.
I love Iggy Pop’s voice. Occasionally I loved this record. But for me half is a strong record and half is fairly mediocre. 3/5
Music to run down Princes Street in Edinburgh to... Add in The Passenger and this becomes a fairly iconic album.
Very good. Knew the big 2 songs. Surprised at how pop it sounded and the Bowie influence is clear. Dips a little on the B side.
Notable tracks: Lust for Life, The Passenger, Turn Blue Pretty middle of the road. Some tracks feel a little samey. 6/10
Thought this album was a mixed bag. The sound was really good, distinct and fun, but I didn’t care for a lot of the lyrics throughout the songs. Especially on Turn Blue. Kinda weird. Standouts: The Passenger, Tonight, and Neighborhood Threat.
This is a weird one - at points it's grungey, sometimes sounds like The Doors meets Bowie, other times it's ankle-deep in Britpop. Not something that I think I'd revisit but an interesting listen
Not really for me. It definitely picked up as it went on but still, I'm indifferent to it. Since this was a collab with Bowie, whom I also am indifferent to, this didn't speak to me in the end.
Fairly decent. Only must Skip is Turn Blue
69/100
This was cool Wouldn’t listen again but lust for life is a rammer
3 stars
A couple of truly great tracks but the rest of the album can't maintain that standard.
Está bien, pero sin mas
The Passenger is a great track. Never gets old. Lust for Life good too. Tonight sounds quite Bowiesque. But the rest is just a bit samey. Not bad.
The Passenger, what a riff. Lust For Life, what a drum beat. Tonight, what a song. Otherwise, underwhelming.
Pretty good but didn’t have the wow factor. I like the Bowie influence, didn’t realise he was so involved. Sixteen was creepy.
Has two undeniable hits, the rest of this sounds like a David Bowie album but not as good. Some of the songs are not that good and go over 6 minutes long. I will rate this higher than it deserves for the singles. B
Absolutely loved The Passenger, but most of the other songs ranged from enjoyable to questionable. Overall the energy wasn't exactly my taste? But I still had a good time. The Passenger may become an all-time favourite.
Some really good stuff with some other stuff that hasn't aged as well.
Fun!
Lust for Life ✅ Sweet Sixteen ✅ Some Weird Sin - can tell Bowie's influence, top tune ✅ Passenger ✅ (Great opening 4 tracks) Tonight ✅ another solid song with heavy Bowie undertones. Reminds me of the pixies. Success ✅ - not bad, still heavy Bowie influence, with a hint of Neil Young Turn Blue ❎ weakest track so far, skip able Neighborhood Threat ✅ Picked it up again Fall in love with me ❎ one of the weaker ones, does remind me of some of Bowie's weaker songs Overall not a bad album... Probs about 7/10
Not bad. I really liked the vocals, kind of a fun listen.
Very enjoyable album with a few classic tracks
Good for bg music, but not really exciting
I didn't realize how many of IP's songs that I knew were all on this one album: "Fall In Love With Me," "The Passenger," and of course the title track. Nice that the title track is frist, so that can be put out of the way. It's not that I dislike it, it's just overplayed. Anyone who mentions Iggy Pop, "Lust For Life" is normally the song that pops into one's head. The other songs had a bit of a bravado / punk-ish vibe to it. But they did not hit me as much as I was hoping. As for "The Passenger," I had heard the song a bunch of times in ads and such but did not place it even was Iggy Pop. So there you go, you learn something new every day. I enjoyed the album and the songs that I knew, but the other songs did not hit me as much as I was expecting. So... three it is.
Meh. Iggy Pop on his own is a lot like when he's with the Stooges to me. Some good songs but not enough for a whole dynamite album, and I'd rather just have his greatest hits. The title track and Passengers are classics - great, catchy songs. The rest I kind of shrug my shoulders at, except at times being slightly intrigued by Sixteen, Success, and Neighborhood Threat. Moving on...
3.5
Eccentric pop, what a coool cat. His mannerisms remind me of Prince a bit. I can see why people like Iggy. 3.4
Have never heard any of his music at all. Have definitely heard of this first track. Pretty good album. Very different. Not poppy but not super rocking.
Couple good tracks on here - listenable - not bad.
Better lyrics than I expected. And some interesting bits.
First Iggy Pop album I've listened to and it was enjoyable enough. Would've hit different listening to it back in the late 70s. Still holds up though.
The Passenger and Lust for Life stick out - as they were covered and used over and over again in media. Aside from that, not much here.
well it's good, kinda scary 3/5
7/10 Highlights: Lust For Life Fall In Love With Me
Good enough but nothing special
It was okay.
Some bangers, some filler.
Sweet sixteen a little rapey
Not really my thing, but it’s pretty solid overall. 6/10
It’s fun, it’s light. Perfect for throwing on at a party or a road trip.
✅✅ while having a fair amount of influence from Bowie, this feels distinctly punk in a way that Bowie at his most confrontational never did. It still feels fresh, the vocals in parts almost sound like something from the aughts. wildly ahead of its time. might bump to ✅✅✅ with time.
Underwhelming, second track is awful
Was expecting something a bit edgier. David Bowie’s influence is heavily felt. pretty standard pop music, probably a little bit ahead of the trend at the time. Not a stand out for me.
3.5 out of 5 Stars. I can’t help but tie Iggy Pop and his songs to Trainspotting, and the starting song’s energy still feels as frenetic as a junkie running from the cops high on heroine and adrenaline. What struck me on this album is how refreshing it must have been to hear this sound in the late 70s. As things were becoming more digitized and electronic, here were some stooges that could put on a stripped down, energetic show. Most of the songs are kinda forgettable tbh
Iggy Pop reads on paper like his stuff would be right up my alley but I just can’t get into him.
yes, well
its fine. i did dig 'Turn Blue' and 'The Passenger', but I don't think I can give it a higher score on account of 'Sixteen'... which is very clearly about... well, banging a 16 year old
A good solo outing for Iggy.
Better than I remember and than expected. Could see myself going back another time if out of other music.
Fine enough
Knew more of these songs than I gave myself credit for. Thought I just didn’t know any Iggy Pop by the unforgettable What Happens in Vegas commercials featured Lust For Life
2.5ish but I’ll round up. Can hear the Bowie fingerprints
It was good. I don’t know how to explain it other than 70s 60s rock.
Fine easy listening. Nothing overly memorable but a decent listen.
Good
OK, knew it before
Half timeless bops, half faux Floyd 70s rock opera that didn't land for me. Punk half was great.
Some tracks were a little “yelly” for me but it was overall interesting.
I'm more of a stooges guy. I hate lust for life, but I love the passenger. Everything else is solid if not great. Classic 3.
Good album, but a little uneven. Amazing how polished it all is considering the outsider feel Iggy portrays.
Føle meg programforplikta til å lika Iggy Pop bedre enn eg gjør, men har fortsatt ikkje følt på kallet
Didn't inspire me enough to seriously engage with the music and my experience of it to write a long/funny review.
i liked the two big songs on here! but struggled to really have an opinion on anything else.
decent album. crazy how huge the title track and the passenger are, and everything else here languishes in relative obscurity. iggy pop is certainly an icon of the counterculture zeitgeist from this era, though perhaps a bit of a troubled soul... with that said, I'm not a huge fan of the stooges' sound or output. there's way more music i'd rather listen to and actually enjoy. this solo album is similar. love the huge tracks but none of the other stuff really impressed me. long tracks, got bored, 3 stars. favorites: lust for life, the passenger, tonight
Skimming these two albums to catch up. This one is pretty okay. Seems just like an album made to be watched live and misses a lot of excitement over headphones. Could be higher but prob average a 2-3 star.
Fun album, some parts were not for me. I thought ‘The passenger’ stood out as the best song.
Good
Fun Album, My uncle really loves Iggy Pop, but.. He scares me, such a pasty saccharin smile, and why is he staring at me like that??? I don't think I can revisit this album because listening to it again would mean I have to click past that horrifying human construct.
Passengers - great hook, very red hot chili peppers. Tonight - I dig. Sounds like David Bowie. Success - bluesy and boring
Not exactly my style but I did enjoy listening, my favorite track was “Lust For Life”
Pretty decent I liked a couple of songs. The story behind it was very interesting.
Solid Iggy
Interesting but forgettable.
3.5 Another day, another David Bowie album in the form of an Iggy Pop release. Mostly kidding - while you can still very much hear Bowie’s voice in this (literally at times), you can also definitely tell Iggy was starting to take more ownership of his music with this record. I mean, yes, seven of the nine songs here are credited as having been composed by Bowie, so the umbilical cord clearly wasn’t fully cut, but I think the musical partnership between the two is strongly felt here, most noticeably in the sense that this sounds much more like an evolved Stooges album than its predecessor. And as it so happens, two of Iggy’s fine moments came from this particular partnered effort as well - Lust for Life and The Passenger. I probably don’t have anything to say about either track that hasn’t already been said a million times over, but they are two songs that I believe have gone on to define his career and that I genuinely feel emanate a sense of greatness as you’re listening. Sooo, it’s kind of unfortunate that the rest of this album just doesn’t really hold a candle. There’s nothing here that’s bad (though admittedly the opening lines of Turn Blue made me do a double take), but there’s also nothing here that gets anywhere near the high of the two hits. The closing track, Fall in Love With Me, is probably about as close as it gets, but even then, I still wouldn’t consider it in the same ballpark. The end result is you get a good, but uneven feeling album, so while I enjoyed this, I honestly just don’t feel it’s structured as well as The Idiot is. Definitely a must-listen for an Iggy Pop fan, but it’s not his best (or probably even his second-best) work.
Very top heavy record with great hits up front. Pretty good as far as solo efforts are concerned
Well I can see (hear) the influence he had on music 20 years later. And to be honest I think Iggy did it better. This is quite a good album, not something I would rave over, but certainly worth the occasional listen. Would I buy it? Yes I would, but I wouldn't go looking for it especially. A very high 3.
Great album. A couple of those songs I knew while, but had no idea they were by Iggy Pop. I thought the whole thing was excellent.
It’s ok
Minimum 3 stars just for Lust & Passenger. Not sure I love it quite enough to push it up to 4 though.
Blegh
The Passenger and Lust for Life are obviously the stand out tracks here, there are a couple other songs I think are good, but not enough to warrant a 4. Overall I would describe this album as "fine"; it has it's moments and I can hear the Bowie influence. 3.5
Good
It’s a good listen for sure
Lust for life and the Passenger are pretty decent and the rest is okay. Fine background music
Iggy is a creep. Some of these songs were good, the rest were meh
Muy bueno.
Fun 70's rock from a legend.
It's mostly good, with one standout title track. Always thought the rest of it felt underbaked though.
Everybody knows and loves the classic title track and The Passenger. None of the other songs quite keep up to the same quality, and the trio of songs following Passenger really bring the album down. Some Weird Sin and Neighborhood Threat are quality songs, but a 4/9 success rate doesn’t make a classic album.
I waited too long to rate this one I remember liking it kind of but nothing stood out as super memorable 3-4
Forgetful but not bad
2 great songs, the rest was decidely blegh.
Pretty Good. Passenger is a long time favorite.
Lust for life and Passenger are amazing songs. The rest of the album was alright, but not memorable, I have no urge to repeat again 3
Not my thing.
Gear: Hifiman Arya Mix (2017 Remaster): tendenziell zu heiß und wenig unspektakulär Musik: "Lust for Life" und "The Passenger" absolute Klassiker, hinten raus überraschend auch weitaus weniger "Raw Power" und mehr Bowie (insb. "Success" und "Neighborhood Threat") Wertung: 🍌🍌🍌(🍌)/5
There's some pretty recognisable tracks off of this, it's just a tad unfortunate that the rest of the songs don't quite deliver on the same level. The last track, however, was a really great album closer.
Title track is good and known. Rest of album was ok
Sounds like David Bowie
3.5
Good
it was ok, not sure if it is one of the 1000 top ever, but no complaints
Interesting listen. Definitely get a sense of the Iggy & Bowie connection after listening.
3.8
Normal rock n roll sound
Songs I liked: Lust for Life, The Passenger
Easy listen fav song the passenger
Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. 2.66 per track.
The title track is pretty fun, but the rest is a bit forgettable really. Not bad, just forgettable.
It just didnt excite me rn idk why. It was kinda boring
Kult, et par dritbra hits og mange gode låter men ingen mindblowing rockeopplevelse personlig. Godt album og legendarisk for sin tid.
it's decent but not interesting enough for me to relisten
5/10 this is the standard. Not bad, couple saves. Some were weird. Saves are good though.
Se nota para bien (contención) la producción de David Bowie. Dos grandes canciones, otra cedida por Bowie y el resto flojea.
Good listen, power punk. I got more into it as it went on. I knew a few, favorited a couple more. Was not aware of the history and extent of Bowie’s involvement. Will be digging into the earlier stuff and revisiting this one. 3.5/5
Seeing Iggy Pop in 1987 on the same bill with The Smithereens, Ziggy Marley, Guns N’ Roses and INXS is hard to top. Unless of course he were to wear see through clear cellophane pants the whole show, which of course he did. A departure from his highly influential Stooges period, this album overall did not disappoint. “Turn Blue” was a bit of a slog, but the rest I found enjoyable. Especially “The Passenger” which would be covered most excellently ten years later by Siouxsie and the Banshees. The biggest puzzle to me is the cover art photo, which looks like something you’d find on an employee badge for someone who didn’t finish his TPS reports. Still, I’ll be revisiting this one.
Nice lil album. Lust for Life is certainly an iconic song and enjoyed quite a few on this. Rebel! Fight the man! The Passenger reminded me of something but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. I think Green Day took “inspiration” from that for Holiday.
3.4 stars rounded down. "Lust for Life" and "The Passenger" are standouts. "Some Weird Sin" and "Fall in Love With Me" are also solid tracks.
First-time listener. Had heard the title track, and this is one of my top picks off the album. I enjoyed some of the guitar riffs and cowbell. Not a fan of Iggy's voice, and it seemed to change in different tracks, sometimes coming across like he was trying to portray Mick Jagger or Jim Morrison. I found Success annoying after a while, but ended humorously. Turn Blue gave me an Elvis on heroin vibe. It seemed like some of the songs were just improv, maybe like it was a live performance and also just high on heroin. Lyrics mostly seemed shallow, or just nonsense. Maybe I would have liked it as a teenager in 1977. There are a couple of tunes that I might listen to again. Others I might have if the vocals were different. Neighborhood Threat is my top pick and enjoyed the ominous sound, just found the vocals a bit cringey.
3.85/5 This album hits sometimes and misses others. When it hits, though, it hits. Hard. Most of the songs either didn’t hit as hard as I thought they would or Iggy Pop is a little more twisted than I thought. From “Lust For Life”’s chaotic opening, to the twisted realm of “Turn Blue”, to the absolute comedy gold that is “Success”, Iggy Pop displays a lot of emotions here. He’s joking in one song and apathetic in the next, and in the one after that, he cruises on by like Tony Marston in And Then There Were None without a care. This album confidently gets a 77/100, or a 3.85/5. Fav: “Success” Least Fav: “Turn Blue”
It's ok. Despite a couple of real classics on here I won't be rushing back. Patchy.
Alright
He's a weird old fella but the album is pretty good
Какая ж у него жажда жизни, какой же он весёлый. О, я знаю the Passenger. Неплохая песня ) Ну в целом альбом норм. Позитивный парень, наверное, у него будет хорошая и добрая жизнь у этого игги попа ахахахах ой.
Some icons on here, a good album
I had to go back and listen to the Stooges after this because I was shocked this was still Iggy Pop. I really didn't like his older work, and while this was better for me, I still didnt love it. I did like The Passenger and Tonight, though.
Surprised how much I liked it. Very Stones-esque. Title track is a banger.
Not bad
Not what I expected…probably a good thing.
not my style
ok...
The Passenger alone gets this to three stars. The rest is good, not great.
Iggy is great. A man very much with a Lust for Life and great music. The title track and Passengers are pieces of music that seem immune to the passage of time and fashion. The rest is solid enough, but shows it age more. A couple definitely tell of time with Bowie.
Great album
Medium; they all sounded the same but good songs to listen to in the car I guess And I felt like I was in a movie
Not my jam but can jam
Good album, I liked the Bowie influence/contribution. Interested in any other collabs between these two!
Love Stooges, find Iggy a bit meh. This is better than the Idiot, but not by a long way. Title track, Passenger and fall in love with me doing a lot of heavy lifting here
Well, I've never been a fan of Iggy Pop, but this wasn't bad. I'd listen to it again, and may check out some of his newer stuff.
Stand out tracks: Lust for Life, Passenger, and Success
Pop rock, with I fluences ranging from punky to slightly operatic
I am biased on this album haha But again, I feeeeel like it’s a bit too repetitive for me
Of course I knew the hits well - it’s aagin what I expected from the late 70s punkish era. Two songs kind of stood out - Tuen Blue and Fall In Love With Me. I guess the legend of Iggy is in his live shows - the album was just kind of uninspiring.
Pretty good album. The Passenger is definitely my favorite track.
Never really gave Iggy Pop much attention before. 'Lust for Life' is immediately recognizable, had no idea i) what this song was called, ii) that Iggy Pop wrote/sang it and iii) that it was this old! Great song, wonderful way to start the album. Then we immediately go to 'Sixteen' which feels VERY dated... 'show you my explosion / sweet sixteen' are lyrics that are hard to listen to in 2024 and this track alone is likely to lose the album a star. Track 4 is 'Passenger,' another song I recognize and like. I'm surprised by the number of songs I know here. The rest of the album was pretty meh... 3/5
Not gonna lie I only listened to the first three songs. They were decent but I wasn’t wowed. I was excited to listen to this tho because iggy pop is one of those people I’ve always heard about but knew nothing about him. I liked the wiki bit about him with ziggy (coincidence on the rhyming??) stardust. Other than that cool little factoid, I’m just kinda meh.
Enjoyable to listen through. Had multiple songs that I had heard but didn’t know the name to (namely The Passenger and Lust For Life). I have always heard of Iggy Pop, but didn’t know if I knew any of his songs. Glad this one came up on the list.
The first half of the album is incredibly strong, with a classic in The Passenger and a giant in the licensing/advertisement industry with Lust For Life. But once you get to the third quarter of this album it becomes very bluesy and slows way down. The last quart picks up slightly but doesn’t finish in a memorable way. Of the 70s/80s rock stars I feel like you rarely hear about Iggy Pop and that’s unfair, because I don’t think this album should be overlooked.
Another album that I should enjoy more than I do. I know that Iggy Pop is a major influence for the Punk movement, but does that mean I have to like him? Do I have to like Doom to enjoy Call of Duty? Do I have to like newspaper comic strips to enjoy cartoons? Do I have to like 2001: A Space Odyssey to like Interstellar? That being said, it's not like the album was difficult to listen to. I just probably won't be coming back to it.
I’m not a natural Bowie fan. My other half had helped me get into him but there’s something about him I’ve found off-putting. Something about the constant ch-ch-changes in persona. Or something about slightly off Centre about his music? Anyway, I remember buying this CD and being surprised it was so Bowie-esque. It made sense in retrospect, when I learnt about their collaboration, of course. I got it because it has two of the best songs of all time on it: Lust for Life and The Passenger. But I didn’t like the rest of it. This time round I found I liked a few ofher songs - some of the more rockier stuff. But I still feel they don’t live up to the main two. If it were just Lust for Life and The Passenger I’d give it five stars. But as it is, it’s more of a three or three and a half.
Like waiting for the green light to watch chickens cross the road
Herefter bliver pladen lidt mere famlende i sit udtryk. Tydelige Bowie aftryk i produktionen. Men jeg bliver også flere gange i tvivl om det er Iggy eller Bowie der synger. Opsummerende: Det var de helt rigtige sange der blev udvalgt som singler
So, I liked passenger and a couple of other songs. But passenger was the only one where I was like, what is the name of this song?! So I think 3
Solid punky rock!
I like 2 songs the rest not so much
not bad but I cant get behind the fucking tambourine playing out of tune
downloaded song number 4
Good album! Just not my taste.
It was just ok
A classic
Didn't really know who Iggy Pop was before even though the name was familiar. Recognize the music from classic rock stations back in the day. Not bad, I can see the beginnings of punk/grunge in there which is pretty cool. Not something I would listen to often though.
Overall I found this album unexciting, can’t really point out anything horrible or amazing but didn’t love the overall energy 5.5/10
Pretty boring for the most part.
Sixteen is a creepy song, but this overall was awesome. Success is a cool way to start the morning. It’s funny how Lust for Life sounds sort of commercial now, when I’m sure it didn’t upon release.
Overall very much a 3.5 the first song reminded me of being stuck in a retail store forever and hearing that on a loop. The rest of the album was honestly really good. 2,3,4,5,8 and 9 were my favorites. Really liked the blues inspired track. Not a bad album but not the best.
Title track is solid. Neighborhood Threat is catchy. After that the quality falls off. For the beginner maybe find a greatest hits list for Iggy
Aint nothin to write home about.
Iggy was on star trek deep space nine. It was cool.
Realizing how Iggy Pop songs have been everywhere, and I never knew it. It's too upbeat for me, but I can appreciate its influence.
the passenger 3.5
Ehhhh, det er ok. En del kleine tekster. Første halvdel er bedre!
Fun
I am a fan of Iggy Pop's most famous hits, but I only liked a couple from this album. My favorite song is on here, which makes it better than most albums, but overall it was pretty okay. I would recommend at least a listen or two. Favorite Song(s): "The Passenger" (duh!), "Sixteen"
Fun.
I really tried to think hard as to if it was just my nostalgia giving preference to 'The Passenger' but genuinely, the rest of the album is nowhere near as good. In isolation that song gets a strong 4.5/5 but the rest is average.
Gewoon lekker album, niks mis mee maar ook niet zo bijzonder Would probably not buy, maar wel nice dus alsnog 3 sterren
Ja ok, war jetzt nicht schlecht. Und Passenger geht immer.
This is a fun album. I like Iggy / The Stooges, up to a point. There are some really fun, vibrant tracks on this album, and there are some stinkers. I would argue that every song is about a minute too long for the punk aesthetic.
Unfortunately it was just fine.Passenger is a banger though
Generally pretty good. Not overwhelmingly so, but better than a lot of his weird stuff.
The first half of this album would be an easy 4 stars, but I don't really like the second half (and absolutely hate "Turn Blue") 3.5 Stars Favourite songs: - Lust For Life - Some Weird Sin - The Passenger
Genuinely don’t remember listening to this but I did
Like it more than I though I would
Was alright. Was distracted listening but it seemed like a good album.
Pretty nice.
Cool
Definitely got the theme of this album. I can see where some people may dig it. As a former addict, it made me uncomfortable. But maybe that’s the point.
Best Song: The Passenger. There's something I've always loved about a gruff voice singing a simple "la la la". It's a pleasant little juxtaposition. Worst Song: Turn Blue. Iggy unfortunately does not have the vocal abilities to perform this son, and it feels like he knows it. He resorts to just barking out phrases sometimes. And the slowly spoken, semi-sexual monologue just comes off as cheesy. Maybe Bowie could have pulled this off, but not Iggy Pop. Overall: Learning that this was a collaboration between Iggy Pop and David Bowie helps explain what I felt was wrong with this album. It felt like the vocal performance was often at odds with the way the songs were written, as though the songs weren't organically built around Iggy Pop's particular strengths. What results is an album that ends up sounding like someone doing a cover of someone else's better work.
This album is a bit of a mixed bag for me. I didn’t know the album but I did know a couple of the songs - the title track and Passenger. I also really like Fall in Love with Me, Neighborhood Threat, and Some Weird Sin. I thought the other songs fell a bit short. But I like the energy and overall sound.
Fun album with pretty good guitar parts! It didn’t have much of an impact on me but it was fun to dance to.
The whole album is good but there are a few songs on here that are my all time favorite.
Helt ok, litt Iggy som ikke vet hvor han vill. Bitvis Iggy, bitvis Bowie, bitvis Stones, bitvis dårlig Lou Reed. Høydepunkt: "Neighbourhood Threat"
Some tunes on here, much prefer the sound of Iggys voice here than his recent stuff
Good Liked tracks: Lust For Life, The Passenger
Pretty good.
The passenger was a nice song just because the pace was a little lower. I feel like you can hear his voice a bit better in this song. Could you imagine if he had up to date equipment, his songs would probably be so goooood. Not saying they aren’t but it’s an average album
It seems pretty good for its time, just not a personal favorite. Common-ish lyrics and a bland album cover. Some decent rock in here, just not life-changing Personal Favorites: Lust for life, The passenger
Starts with one of those songs I never realized was Iggy Pop that I love. Same with the Passenger. Great tunes. Some of the middle songs start to sound similar to each other but still pretty good. Neighborhood Threat sounds like Bowie. Overall a solid record. Nothing crazy special to me but enjoyable. Respectable 3.
Kinda zoned out while listening, so no notes. Favorite track was lust for life.
3/5. I'm a fan of the stooges and Iggy but this one didn't do it for me. I didn't feel like the songwriting was up to par on this one. The instrumentation was simple but effective, and Iggy performed well but I felt like there was an energy missing, or at least this wasn't the genre of music for him, which is base rock and pop. We either need heavier or weirder. I enjoyed some of the songs but it felt like a Bowie album with someone else singing where his voice should be.
first half of album was cool than dropped off
Bowie link.
I can see the appeal but I don’t see it as my thing. Cool tunes though.
More my style, I can see where he has influenced a lot of future rock albums.
