Reviews (page 10 of 13)

One of many "I don't mind this but I'm not overly enthusiastic either" albums. Echoes of Bowie, and the Stones. Raw and rhythmic.

It’s a fun album. Nothing earth shattering. Average I’d say.

A solid thundering album that doesn’t really relent. The title track was quite solid and the Passenger is a good song. I could take or leave the rest though the I enjoyed Bowie influence

Solid album - probably won’t listen to it again but a couple of iconic tracks!

Should have taken notes, I think I liked it

A couple of classics on here. Doesn't honestly pique my interest too much but 'twas solid Dude looks like Ellen DeGeneres in this album cover

The Passenger. Also looks like a young version of a guy I work with

We did David Bowie, Low, a few months back, a related album recorded when they were in Germany. I didn't enjoy Low that much and wasn't optimistic about this one, but I was pleasantly surprised. A nice hard edge to the power pop tunes. The Passenger was the hit for me.

Very classic. The last 3 songs are my favorite.

I found this album to be another that was carried by its good songs, but otherwise not particularly impressive. The majority of the tracks were solid pop rock efforts, with a few tracks that stood out. Aside from those, though, the rest was pretty forgettable. I think the only track I actively didn't like was Turning Blue, which was also the longest track of the album. Otherwise, the songs weren't bad. I can't say I liked them all, but I didn't hate them either. The album is solidly in OK territory. Some tracks got up to "good" level, but not many. Overall: 3.1/5

Title track is iconic.

Cole you’re spot on! I heard The Killers too

Fine. Listenable. Not as edgy quite yet.

Fun, energetic, I really liked the guitars. Favs were Some Weird Sin and Success.

A couple of very good tracks but generally only listenable.

lord have mercy, that cover wow. straight up got jumpscared me when this album revealed itself ofc hes a pedophile damn. idk im not feeling this one tbh

Not bad, very 70s rock - was impressed that there wasn't much difference in quality between the singles and the rest of the album

3.4/it's fine but nothing special. bowie did good

Passenger and Lust for Life stand out. Not much else really does.

Great grimy rock and roll vibes, the standouts really prop up the rest of the album, the rest of which isn't bad but lesser in comparison. Standouts: Lust For Life, The Passenger, Tonight

I like Tonight and Neighborhood Threat a bunch.

This is alright. I had listened to it years ago and had a vague memory of it not really working for me. David Bowie's fingerprints are all over this album, Sixteen would have fit right in on any of his mid 70s albums, or Tonight on Scary Monsters. You would think I would really enjoy it but there's something missing that I can't put my finger on It may be the production. I find it a bit murky and it saps the energy of the songs. If the album sounded better I think I would like it quite a bit more, as I think most of the songs are well written. Besides Turn Blue, as I found the vocals annoying and I was tempted to skip that Highlights: Fall In Love With Me, Sixteen

content 1/5 vocals 4/5 guess thats a 3/5 then

Not my favorite pervert but rock on

I know I said I’m not taking off points for the artists being freaks (derogatory) because a lot of them are…. But if you have a song about giving a 16 year old your “explosion” and it’s so obvious that even I can’t listen to the song without immediately getting it, it makes your grossness bleed into the album. All those appropriate-aged fans and Pop and Bowie still chose children? Ew. Anyways the album was gonna be a 4 now it’s a 3. P3dos can rot tho.

3.5 for me, Bowie saving this with his songwriting and production

Just a thought I had while listening: I really didn't pay attention how many songs there used to be with lyrics like "you're so young", "you're so innocent" and so on. Feels creepy now.

The self-titled song is incredible catchy and made move along the rhythm. Everything else is alright. Iggy pop's voice is kind of charming, and I don't think there's anything more I could say about this album that captured my attention. Decent album but without anything to make me want to return to the whole thing. Besides, I don't know what it is about the cover art, but it is really creepy. Maybe it is the fact that he is looking directly to the camera. Feels like it pierces my soul.

Ganz gut, The Passenger ist ein toller Song. -1 für das grausige Albumcover

Not bad even though I don’t listen to this type of music that often but I still wouldn’t add any to my playlist and could do with some more variation actually.

Surprisingly interesting songs, after your get through list for life title track

Didn’t mind this album at all.

better than i expected. kinda rolling stones adjacent

Some incredibly timeless tracks on here. The rest is a little forgettable to me.

I was worried when I saw the genre listed as punk, but this was surprisingly good.

Could definitely hear the Bowie. Had a few songs I really enjoyed, but generally not for me.

Album was OK.

Good album, but sounded like it was being played next door. Poor production

Enjoyable

The Passenger is a great song of course. The rest of the album is a bit mixed but sounds good overall. Bowie'esque indeed but not quite as good as Bowie's best. Oh and that cover photo is rubbish! Has a very different feel from the music. Looks like an album by some B rated french charmeur.

Would be a 2 but the passenger bangs

Was okay. 3/5

Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life" is an album that I enjoyed listening to, but I probably won't be revisiting it anytime soon. The album has its moments, with energetic tracks and memorable lyrics. It was a worthwhile listen and had its standout moments.

Had never listened to Iggy Pop. I felt like it got better as I went deeper, I think it sounds ahead of its time in some ways. Some classic songs on this album

Regular bops. Not phenomenal. 3/5

Not my forte

Great voice. Good introduction into punk--can feel some Motown influences, too.

Seems weird I never listened to this before. Lust For Life (the song) has such a ridiculously long intro - never noticed before! I had no clue The Passenger and Lust For Life were on the same album. Ture Blue sounds like it should be in Rocky Horrors but not in a good way and its far too long. Fall In Love with Me also outstays its welcome.

My wife said it sounded like Bowie and the Doors but worse! Hard to argue with that but I really like Lust for life as it on the Trainspotting soundtrack.

Why do so many 70s rock stars have to have a song called Sixteen. Good lord. Overall the album pretty good that song left off. My favorite song was Neighborhood Threat.

glad I listened!

It's a good sounding album. Passenger was probably my favorite track. I would listen to it again, but it didn't stand out immediately.

Que nenni, mes amis, car voilà que déboule "Lust for Life". "Lust for Life", "The Passenger", "Some Weird Sin", "Success"… "Lust for Life" ? "The Passenger" ?

Was ok? Couple of solid tracks on it

It was pop, rock, alt and probably similar to other at the time, but I couldn't help but enjoy the first half of this album. It all worked in a weird fun way. The Passenger was one of my favorite. But then we had to go down into wanting young girls and then Turn Blue. Apparently Turn Blue is about heroin and depression but some of the symbolism just ain't right.

Iggy is the godfather of punk music with The Stooges, and later in 1977 he became a godfather of goth with The Idiot. Here on Lust For Life, he grooves and rocks pretty well. Also worth noting, David Bowie produced this album. His influence is clear as day. In fact sometimes it can be hard to differentiate between his and Iggy’s voice. This would be during Bowie’s Berlin trilogy era (Low, Heroes, The Lodger) where he was creating some of his most successfully experimental music. I’m giving this a 3.5.

I was excited to get this because I love the title track and have heard good things about the whole album. I really liked The Passenger, and Success and Tonight are cool too. It was hard to get past Sweet Sixteen though. What is with so many dudes wanting underage girls? And then writing a whole song about it to include on your album. Ick. I wanted to love this, but the creepo factor in that track tarnished the listening experience for me a bit, sadly.

More nuanced than I expected. Would listen again

The highs are incredibly high here. But theres some pretty big slow spots where it comes a lil bit of a bore. Stil love the overall glam and proto vibe

This was better than I thought! Passenger is a really cool song.

is this the song from billy elliot? love the first track! Very much the music my mum and dad used to listen to. Enjoying "the passenger" too - didn't realise they did this. Loveit :)

I don’t know if I’d listen to this again Tonight or not.

Not what I was expecting. Of I’ve heard Lust for Life and The Passenger but the rest of the album is very cool. Tonight is probably my favorite track. Iggy is so soulful. And probably the best album cover art ever!!

3/5 all songs where decent

Old school

the passenger, my beloved 🥰 neighborhood threat is ein 10/10 banger rest is alright ig

Same old punk/pop, bowie-like bullshit. Not my cup of tea. I do like The Passenger though.

A couple of fun songs, but sixteen? Yeesh

fun classic rock album. vibes remind me of a bar night or even poker night? - the passenger - turn blue

Way different vibe than expected. Very Bowie.

What a winning smile. Two and one half out of five.

it's cool

Compared to punk music today, this is alright. Today’s artists in this genre have flown so far away from the base model that it exposes their lack of musicality and taste.

The title track opens this album and it's very familiar to me. I haven't heard it in a long time but it's still a great tune that makes you wanna get up and move to its ridiculously infectious beat. That's pretty much the story for this whole album - infectious, melodic tunes. It's produced by David Bowie and you can tell, it's got his fingerprints all over it. Every little guitar melody that gets stuck in your head you can just tell it has his influence. Overall there is some very good stuff here and it's pretty catchy throughout. The backing vocals are a highlight too. I will say that the quality does take a slight dip in the final third but this is a solid album, more than likely a bit of a grower. A very high three.

I enjoyed this, and I really wasn't expecting that to happen. Very catchy and fairly unique sounding.

Not a terrible album, and it has a few good songs on it. Iggy Pop never really interested me with his music. But, I respect the album and it should be listened to at least once. 3/5

A few strong songs

It's an odd sound. Kind of anticipatory of the 80s – but I don't necessarily hate it. In fact, for punk, it's unexpectedly good. Iggy Pop has a good, gritty vocal with more emotion and better technique than the usual drunken schoolboy slurring that you tend to associate with the genre. But even on Lust For Life, I'd prefer a voice that's more rock-oriented, given the sonic focus on the distorted lead guitar – but it's passable as is. Pop's voice imitates that of David Bowie around the same time, particularly in the song Tonight. (It makes sense, given Bowie's heavy influence on Pop's style and his involvement in several of Pop's albums.) You can also hear influence from earlier blues-rock, particularly the likes of Mick Jagger and Jim Morrison. But once you make the comparison, you realise the 60s guys are simply better. Instead, the album's greatness is carried by Bowie's compositions. The technically straightforward rock feel with countless quirks added (e.g. octave-harmonised vocals, all-over-the-place basslines) is The title track is great, being a sort of repeating anthem with a pretty darn convincing vocal hook. The Passenger has a very memorable guitar chord progression; it's obvious why it's the most popular song on here. Extra points for Tonight being a multi-part song. ...And minus 1 star for such an odd fixation on 16-year-old girls. Normally I don't pay much attention to lyrics, but these ones were bad. Iggy was 29 years old upon the album's release, so there's no excuse. 3/5 Key tracks: Lust For Life, The Passenger, Tonight

Solidly good album. A couple bangers and really like the Bowie-ness that’s infused on the rest.

Eh. It's decent, just nothing I haven't heard before.

You could feel the David Bowie in this. However it failed to rise to the heights of David Bowie. A couple of bangers but broadly, disappointingly, mid.

I'm liking this.

I could tell he had fun making this, but it wasn’t my jam

Easy to listen, a distinctive voice in Pop, and enjoyable overall album. 6.5/10.

List for Life and The Passenger are great songs. I also enjoyed Neighborhood Threat cause it was punk adjacent. The rest of the album reminded me how pedophilia, glorified destruction and uncontrollable ick drive me away from listening to more classic rock

Overall decent (+3) a few pretty good songs (+1) my dad used to listen to it (-1)

Imagine if Iggy Pop got a low taper fade

Just great, kick ass rock and roll. Sorry I didn't listen to this in its day.

It’s fine, not lustful

Enjoyed more tracks than I thought I would

This was fine. I actually liked it more than expected. 2.8

I actually enjoyed this more than I expected. Some good jams and would throw it on again.

I know a handful of the songs and maybe listened to this album one time through but I can say he was a little ahead of his time in 1977 with the title track which still sounds fresh. This would have been a bigger hit 5-6 yrs later with MTV behind it. I love the title track, "The Passenger" (nearly a half billion listens!) is a real gem and covered well by a few different artists. The song with the least number of listens is still over 2M, that's saying something, this is a well respected and listened to album from top to bottom. I had NO IDEA that "Tonight" was done by Iggy first, I only know the Bowie/Tina Turner version (1984) which I love. Influence, longevity, radio hits still being played, covered songs, this is a better Top 1001 choice than I would have thought. Still pretty sure it wouldn't make my list but I respect it's presence.

Feels like an overall "ok" album but nothing that sticks out. "The Passenger" is the best song which seems typical for these classics that have one great song.

Perhaps better than I expected, and the title track is a great song.

Was enjoying this album, lots of energy, but “Turn Blue” knocked it down a full star

Aside from the horribly dated and often nonsensical lyrics the songwriting regarding the instruments and composition is generally pretty good, which as I understand David Bowie had a hand in. The first two songs I found to be weirdly unpleasant and pretty boring. The Passenger is easily the highlight on the album and it’s great; energetic and fun the song excels in making you want to sing along and the groove is infectious. Audibly Pop is emulating Bowie on a couple of the tracks on here like Tonight, having said that he does a pretty good job on that one and it’s another highlight on the album. Success toes a line for me, I found it quite annoying at first listen, but on return I think the guitar work is great and the duelling vocals on the chorus works pretty well. The production and mix is really good on here as-well, I think it’s a song that will get better with each relisten. Turn Blue tries a slower paced emotional ballad style song that again has Pop doing his best Bowie impression. But I don’t think it works anywhere near as well as Tonight does. I thought I was listening to Don’t fear the Reaper when Neighbourhood Threat started and all I could think of throughout the rest of the track is that I’d rather be listening to Blue Öyster Cult. Fall In Love With Me is fine doesn’t exactly end the album with a bang but not a whimper either. Overall I’d give the album a 3 would’ve been a 2 if not for The Passenger.

6/10 not my style did like lanas album of the same name tho

It’s a real tragedy that my Millennial brain can’t help but tie the title track to that Royal Caribbean commercial from the early 2000s. That’s a great song! Undeniable. The rest of Lust for Life as an album is like a parallel version of David Bowie who’s a little bit more punk, a little bit more American, and a little bit more up my alley. Which makes sense, because it basically is a Bowie album in disguise; he composed the majority of these songs, he co-produced this whole album, and he plays keys and is obviously singing backing vocals all over this record. Despite the heavy influence, even as a Bowie hater, I’m cool with it, even on songs that basically feel like Bowie songs. I’m cool with “Tonight” and “Success,” two tracks that benefit from strong hooks and riffs, and evolve naturally as songs. I also like when it starts to sound like The Stooges are backing Bowie, like on “Neighborhood Threat.” It’s the rest of the record that I take issue with. Sure, the title track is a pretty static 2-part change up for 5 whole minutes, but it sells it with massive hook and Pop’s general vibe. On the other hand, strange art pop meanderers feel either dated lyrically (“Turn Blue”) or sonically (“Fall In Love With Me”). I’m okay with “The Passenger,” but it’s a bit too post-punk for my tastes; meanwhile “Sixteen” and “Some Weird Sin” lean too heavily on the art punk, and morph too obviously into Bowie songs, pulling me out completely. On paper, I think Lust for Life had the potential to be the perfect album for me. In practice, it’s simply a vibe thing, and the bad vibes are all linked to my indescribable resentment of nearly everything Bowie touches. And because Pop mostly ditches his proto-punk past to assume Bowie’s affectation, sonic palette, and general aura, I’m pushed out of the club by a lot of this record. It does, however, sometimes achieve a balance between Bowie and Pop’s aesthetics, and in those moments, I hesitantly walk back in, though I still find myself leaning against the doorframe beneath the exit sign for most of this record.

Previously rated: The Idiot (4/5) ********************* On first listen, I liked The Idiot a little better than this. If I listened to them again, it might be the opposite. The biggest problem I had with this one was the sound. It was muddled, especially with the vocal effects. Some songs felt like they went a bit too long. Otherwise a fun album. Again, reminded me of Bowie.

Pre-listening thoughts: I’ve heard of Iggy pop/the stooges, but I've never listened to any of his/their stuff. Curious about this since he and Bowie were in cahoots. Post/during listening thoughts: you can hear Bowie’s influence on here for sure, down to the vocal performance (and the backing vocals literally lol). The arrangements are more punk than standard Bowie though, and I’m guessing that part is all Iggy Pop. Also unrelated but curious if Lana del Rey’s album of the same title is a reference to this or something else. Fall in Love with Me is kinda giving Franz Ferdinand. This is good, I’m not like enthusiastic about it but I don’t dislike it. I do feel bad judging any music rn bc I’m sick and my hearing isn’t at its greatest, but I’m like 3 albums behind so gotta lock in. 6/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: nah Fav tracks: Lust for Life, Tonight Least fav tracks: Sixteen

ugh the production gives me a headache and the playing is quite boring. lyricism is good though

I considered giving it four stars, but then Spotify autoplayed a song from The Idiot right after, and it was so much better than anything on Lust for Life

Particolare passare da Raw Power a questo

Lust for Lude and Tge Passenger are bangers. The rest of the album is less memorable.

'The Passenger' is a great and iconic track but other than that I found this album rather bland to be honest. 'Lust For Life' and 'Fall In Love With Me' were alright but other than that the album did not live up to my expectations. I will give it a weak 3 rating just because of 'The Passenger' but maybe it would deserve a 2.5 rating to be honest.

I wasn't a fan of the start - I'm not sure how Lust For Life got so popular, but both it and Sixteen have good melodies which get repeated way too much, and weird lyrics (asking about lotion, hypnotizing chickens, and lusting after a sixteen year old?). After that the album got a lot better for me, with The Passenger being my favorite, probably because Holiday by Green Day uses the same exact chord progression.

Fajne, punkowe, lekkie, slucha sie dobrze

Top level 3. Lust for Life is OK, Passenger is a stone cold classic.

Sonst meh. Favorit: LfL.

Lust For Life is a great song and perhaps the highlight of the album.

I think one of my first introductions to Iggy Pop was the part that he played in the movie the Crow: City of Angels. He’s a weird dude man! This album is actually pretty good and you can definitely feel the Bowie influence on it in the punk world he is considered to be one of the fore fathers of the movement but outside he has had many singles that are cemented their way into history. Lust for Life is a classic used in a variety commercials and TV shows. But I have to agree The Passenger is probably his best song on this album tonight. Sounds like it could’ve been off a Bowie album. I was impressed.

passenger is great

Good Bowie adjacent album that I think parts of still hold up. Bowies hand is clear even if Pop had more of his own hand in this and while that might be a slight against Pop it’s a plus for the album. If we just take out any reference to teens we’re good to go!

It was okay, just old. It was progressive in its time, I'm sure.

Lust for Life made me very cheerful.

Didn't speak to me

A perfectly fine punk album. Nothing memorable.

It’s fine. It’s Iggy Pop. Couple hits. Last track sounds like The Killers. Famous rock stars, I challenge you to NOT write a song about having sex with underage girls (might be impossible, it seems)

Great so far, great album. Not sure if there's much replay besides a few songs.

Favorite Track: Lust for Life

Enjoyed it but didn’t love it. Passenger and Lust for Life obviously huge, rest of it blurred into one a bit. Album cover is great 3.25/5

The passenger is a SICK song. otherwise, ehh.

I just had a bad week this time. Nearly all the albums were below 4 stars. "Lust For Life" is one of those records. There are some good songs in this album. "Fall in Love With Me" is my favourite. 3 stars for "Lust For Life".

I liked this a lot more than I thought I would, and there’s some pretty recognisable tracks, but I won’t play it again

6/10 Highlights: The Passenger Lust for Life

The David Bowie influence is obvious. Contains the hit "The Passenger", plus the title track "Lust for Life" which I'd heard before but didn't know was by Iggy Pop.

Passenger and Tonight were good but the rest kind of boring

Better than I expected

not david bowie

a very poppy offering that's fairly uplifting and fun. historically, this was the second album that Iggy & David Bowie worked on together, but in this one, Iggy demanded more control over the production and leaned more towards a hard rock and proto-punk sound than The Idiot. Despite little promotion, it was Pop's highest charting album until 2016, and is frequently praised as Pop's most energetic album and widely regarded as one of his best works. I totally get the energy from this album, and at the time, especialyl with Bowie influences, this really seems to carry a lot of interesting confluence between art pop and rock music.

Horniest man of the 70s?

Imagine if it didn't open with that track. Hmmm well I suppose 16 is legal but how old were you Iggy? Much Bowie sound. So I'm dying at age 22 and I get told everything is going to be ok tonight? More accessible than The Stooges, for sure. Almost mainstream sound. Is the cover photo meant to be a cheesy yearbook photo?

It's probably common knowledge but I didn't realize there was such close collaboration between Iggy Pop and David Bowie. Wikipedia says Pop used Bowie's arrangement for the title track, which is a great song. I think I first heard it on the Trainspotting soundtrack. The rest of the album is fine but nothing else stands out. It would have been cool to see Pop do a live show back in the day - sounds like he was a great performer.

Good. Eh. Racist?

More modern than I would have expected. The hits have aged really well. The deeper cuts are also great and not the straight forward punk I expected with my metal image of Iggy Pop. Turn Blue is odd but no skip.

A bit of a mixed bag for me where the singles are way stronger than the deep cuts

3 stars. Feels pedestrian at many points but some bangers (Lust For Life, The Passenger, Some Weird Sin).

The Stooges FAVO: Lust for life, The passenger

Good American rock. Good guitar rifts and drums. A solid album

The somewhat tamed, upbeat dancy version of Iggy Pop. Some bangers - some songs are going nowhere. Many go on for too long (Bowie!!!)

Generally enjoyable, if far less punchy than the Stooges material.

Good album, enjoyed the first songs, groovy beats. Last song was great too. Not necessarily my wheelhouse of music but enjoyed the 7 tracks.

Title track is solid

This is fine, David Bowie lite

The 2 big songs are absolute classics for a reason. Just all-time great songs. The rest of the songs don't live up to those, but also aren't bad.

The first half of this is really solid but the back half is a real mess.

Pretty sure this would have been a case of “way more fun live” at the time it was released, but sadly I’ll never know Also way more into the back half of this record

Despite some dated lyrics and a few underwhelming tracks, this is an enjoyable listen full of chaotic energy.

Not afraid to be eccentric. A fun and different album. Did listen while half asleep so may re-visit in the future. Some definite bops (lust for life, the passenger, neighbourhood threat) some definite underrated songs on there though.

I liked it.

Helt ok.

Surprisingly good

Iggy's songwriting peak. Full of attitude and swagger. Does tail off a bit towards the end. Best tracks: - Lust for Life - The Passenger - Tonight Worst tracks: - Turn Blue Rating: 7/10

pra fechar o ano. pior que eu gosto do iggy pop, ignorando o fato do home ser maluquinho.

First listen. Ok.

It was okay. The title reminded me of the Lana album.

it was some great songs, it was some awful songs and the guy sounds like a creep

3/5, it was alright. Not my type.

This was ok. I didn't think this album was so poppy and at some points has Iggy Pop doing some kind of punk Frank Sinatra impersonation which is weird and doesn't really work. Lust For Life & The Passenger are the obvious stand outs.

with the stooges, iggy is punk, but apparently when he is with his solo band, the music is more rock based. iggy pop was friends with david bowie and you can tell bowie’s influence with this album. good album. highlights: “lust for life” “some weird sin” “the passenger”

I thought I liked Iggy Pop and The Stooges. But those Stooges albums were a total miss for me. Was familiar with a few of the songs on this solo album but was worried…….. Shouldn’t have been; this was pretty good. Compared to The Stooges albums, anyway.

was ok. A few good songs. Interesting narrative

Mister blikket for helheden

Average

It’s okay

I wanted to like, didnt listen much

yay david bowie

Great punk momentum and fun through most the album. Turn blue went a little too long for me.

The Passenger is a tune. Didn't know it was by Iggy Pop so that was a nice surprise. Rest of the album was quite good, but not quite enough for a 4.

Lust for life and the passenger are both bangers and will probably listen to them again in the future. Also will probably watch trainspotting soon, after lust for life made me remember about the film. The rest of the album is ok did tail off towards the end

3.75 Classic hits, but a less cohesive album.

very ok, auprised at the songs i knew

Pari megalekaa ja muuten ihan ok. 1078 levynä alkaa kisaväsymys jo painamaan...

Bitz weird aber en vibe. 3.3

Lust For Life is a kickback to 70s garage rock from the American Bowie. Strong start, holds its own all the way through. Enjoyed the old school listen (3.3*s) with the +0.1 for being American.

Have heard Iggy is a major rock legend and but never really gave a listen. Always thought he was just some strung out, shirtless weirdo but this album is quite good and I can see why it has influenced many Indy rock bands today. A lot of the tracks would fit right in amongst other alt-rock radio station hits from the past few decades. Holds up very well. Bowie and Ziggy certainly built their stage presence and styles together. The album cover is deceptive for what you get here as Iggy is far from a good boy...3.35.

I've only ever scratched the surface with Iggy through pop culture references like Trainspotting and the like. I never really paid attention and kinda just figured Iggy was an artist that I've overlooked. Lust For Life is a fun little collection of tunes. Nothing special, but solid enough to warrant a listen and make me wonder what else Iggy has. Might be something I come back to when I need to scratch a certain brit punk rock itch. 2.86 stars

Uhh, look how cute he was in 1977. Yikes, the Lust for life got him.

2 stone cold classics A lot of so-so

Two great songs, rest is the ramblings of a smackhead nonce but musically good

Freaks gonna freak. The albums aren’t all that great without the theatrics of the live show- but at least I didn’t have to skip any of the tracks.

Iggy Punk Rock. 3/5

I can see why this was having a resurgence in the 00s, it sounds just like every indie rock band from that era. Decent variety of tunes.

I kinda dont like rock, but this album is good, with that david bowie as a collab, i live this, i live this, i give it a 3/5

"Lust for Life" was used in every car commercial in the early 2000s, giving it familiarity. The album was fun, upbeat, and just okay.

Decent album, enjoyable but nothing amazing

It was a perfect album for the era. 10 songs on the album and I added 5 of them to my library.

Good, not great. List for life was the only banger.

I had more fun listening to this than I anticipated. Iggy Pop is one of those undeniable characters of the music industry and his personality reflects pretty well into his music. The Passenger is a classic and was the only song I was familiar with from this album. Lust For Life is hiding a few other noteworthy tracks, such as the effervescent 'Sixteen' and 'Some Weird Sin' along with the title track. On Lust For Life, Iggy sounds like he's having a good time and that in-turn allows his listener to relax and have a good time. It isn't an album for particularly deep listening or introspection, outside of the question "how strong is your lust for life?" Top 3: 1. The Passenger 2. Fall In Love With Me 3. Turn Blue Bottom 1: Success Overall Score: 6.9/10 (3 & 1/2 Stars)

Not bad

Alright. It's all good. Too many lyrics about teenage girls. Sweet 16... more like Shut Up

yeah its influential i dont really like it that much though

One thing I’ve learned about myself from this list is that I’m an Iggy Pop fan. You can definitely hear the Bowie influences on this one, sometimes for better and sometimes for worse. Didn’t like this as much as when he’s with the Stooges (a little too poppy) but still good.

Has two undeniable hits, the rest of this sounds like a David Bowie album but not as good. Some of the songs are not that good and go over 6 minutes long. I will rate this higher than it deserves for the singles.

I know Iggy is a legend, but I found this album to be inconsistant. A couple of good songs and others that just don't resonate.

Solid Iggy / Bowie. 3.5

Some absolutely classics, but not as good as I hoped throughout

The title track “Lust For Life” and “The Passenger” are the obvious highlights of this album given their popularity. While none of the other songs quite live up to that greatness, it’s still a fun album to revisit. I can see how this album and Iggy in general are a major influence on bands like The Strokes. This album has always been a 3 for me so I’ll keep it there.

If Mick Jagger and David Bowie had a baby that speedballed, it would be Iggy Pop. I like Bowie, and I don't like Jagger. Iggy is more on the Jagger side for me, as in I'm not a huge fan. Although, I did like that Stooges album we listed to awhile back. I guess this is a good album, but it isn't something I would listen to voluntarily. Glad I heard it, though. 3

I like the energy on this album. Lust for Life is a great song. Iggy Pop has such an interesting voice. I think this one is better than the earlier album I rated. I feel like the songs are organized and structured better and not as chaotic. Dear I say mature. I also liked 'Tonight'.

It was okay.

The album is a great compilation of the “Lust for Life” (mostly drugs). I love the first half of the album, but after “Tonight” I feel it becomes another album. “Turn Blue” is a mess and “Sucess” is kinda boring. I understand the experimental side but it loses the energy of the first few bangers.

i'm a big fan of 70s punk but this only has two good songs. the rest are forgettable. bowie definitely saved it from being total garbage

It’s fine, I guess, I don’t know. Lust for life is a bit of a bop, Sixteen is creepy as hell (how were 70s rock dudes all pedos?), and there was another song I recognized that was kind of good but I can’t remember what it was. 2.5 stars

Respect for creativity plus Bowie. Lust for Life is classic.

Is this punk? Post punk? I don’t know, and I don’t really care. (Subtext - beware of labels. They tend to serve someone else’s purposes.)

Iggy pop is one of those artists that I appreciate, but have never really been able to properly get into. I just much prefer the rawness and aggression of The Stooges.

Probalby my favorite Iggy Pop album so far. Very catchy

This is pretty much the missing link between two of my favorite albums, Low and “Heroes”, but is not nearly as good. Iggy starts to grate after a while, especially on Turn Blue (🥴), but there’s a few good tracks here.

Some seriously excellent songs in this album.

Don't remember many opinions on it

I didn't know David Bowie and Iggy Pop wrote Tonight together and that this was the original. That's pretty cool. Overall it's an enjoyable album, though not very outstanding. I enjoyed it more than his work with the Stooges that I have heard so far.

Some good songs

The day I discovered that Capital Inicial's song is actually a cover from Iggy Pop! Good album, but very different style of songs throughout it? Almost doesn't feel cohesive, despite them individually being good!

In jalousiebedeckter Wohnung amüsierst du dich alleine Du hörst Iggy Pop – dann fick ihn doch! The Album is great, few bangers i love lel he still makes great music (3.5/5.0)

Philip Seymour Hoffman voice: “IGGY POP!” A fun rock album. Thought it was going to be a bit more weird.

mhhh pas ma came

Lust for Life and The Passenger are both epic....the rest would be a 2. OK.

Highlights: Some weird sin, The passenger, Neighbourhood threat -Very dynamic -Sometimes it gets a bit too generic or a bit boring but nothing major -The vibe the album brings is amazing -The highs on this are REALLY good -The lows are not bad they're just meh Rating: 6.5/10

Fun vibes. I’m not all in but he’s creative

Good album from Iggy, distinctive but not too far out. Very accessible. The Passenger is a great start to the album.

Bowie's fingerprints are all over this. Sounds like Bowie but less restrained. I like it, but prefer the Stooges work for sure. Title track is fantastic tho

This was pretty good, although I couldn't wait to get that album cover off my screen

I can't believe The Passenger is almost 50 years old. The rest of the album didn't age that well though. 7/10

This was not the sort of music I thought Iggy Pop did. But that was based on how he looks and those crap ads he did quite enjoyed it though.

Lust for Life and The Passenger are a couple of awesome hits. Besides that, the album is a bit meh but certainly above average. Bowie rules. 6.5/10 (3.25/5)

Great hugely Bowie-influenced record.

ok werk

Although I'm not a big Iggy Pop fan, this is probably my favorite of his albums. It's not too crazy but still a little crazy, just right. I might like his other work more if I had listened to this first and worked into his other stuff. Not sure if I would listen to this agarin but I don't regret hearing it.

I love Iggy Pop’s voice. Occasionally I loved this record. But for me half is a strong record and half is fairly mediocre. 3/5

Music to run down Princes Street in Edinburgh to... Add in The Passenger and this becomes a fairly iconic album.

Very good. Knew the big 2 songs. Surprised at how pop it sounded and the Bowie influence is clear. Dips a little on the B side.

Notable tracks: Lust for Life, The Passenger, Turn Blue Pretty middle of the road. Some tracks feel a little samey. 6/10

Thought this album was a mixed bag. The sound was really good, distinct and fun, but I didn’t care for a lot of the lyrics throughout the songs. Especially on Turn Blue. Kinda weird. Standouts: The Passenger, Tonight, and Neighborhood Threat.

This is a weird one - at points it's grungey, sometimes sounds like The Doors meets Bowie, other times it's ankle-deep in Britpop. Not something that I think I'd revisit but an interesting listen

Not really for me. It definitely picked up as it went on but still, I'm indifferent to it. Since this was a collab with Bowie, whom I also am indifferent to, this didn't speak to me in the end.

Fairly decent. Only must Skip is Turn Blue

69/100

This was cool Wouldn’t listen again but lust for life is a rammer

3 stars

A couple of truly great tracks but the rest of the album can't maintain that standard.

Está bien, pero sin mas

The Passenger is a great track. Never gets old. Lust for Life good too. Tonight sounds quite Bowiesque. But the rest is just a bit samey. Not bad.

The Passenger, what a riff. Lust For Life, what a drum beat. Tonight, what a song. Otherwise, underwhelming.

Pretty good but didn’t have the wow factor. I like the Bowie influence, didn’t realise he was so involved. Sixteen was creepy.

Has two undeniable hits, the rest of this sounds like a David Bowie album but not as good. Some of the songs are not that good and go over 6 minutes long. I will rate this higher than it deserves for the singles. B

Absolutely loved The Passenger, but most of the other songs ranged from enjoyable to questionable. Overall the energy wasn't exactly my taste? But I still had a good time. The Passenger may become an all-time favourite.

Some really good stuff with some other stuff that hasn't aged as well.

Lust for Life ✅ Sweet Sixteen ✅ Some Weird Sin - can tell Bowie's influence, top tune ✅ Passenger ✅ (Great opening 4 tracks) Tonight ✅ another solid song with heavy Bowie undertones. Reminds me of the pixies. Success ✅ - not bad, still heavy Bowie influence, with a hint of Neil Young Turn Blue ❎ weakest track so far, skip able Neighborhood Threat ✅ Picked it up again Fall in love with me ❎ one of the weaker ones, does remind me of some of Bowie's weaker songs Overall not a bad album... Probs about 7/10

Not bad. I really liked the vocals, kind of a fun listen.

Very enjoyable album with a few classic tracks

Good for bg music, but not really exciting

I didn't realize how many of IP's songs that I knew were all on this one album: "Fall In Love With Me," "The Passenger," and of course the title track. Nice that the title track is frist, so that can be put out of the way. It's not that I dislike it, it's just overplayed. Anyone who mentions Iggy Pop, "Lust For Life" is normally the song that pops into one's head. The other songs had a bit of a bravado / punk-ish vibe to it. But they did not hit me as much as I was hoping. As for "The Passenger," I had heard the song a bunch of times in ads and such but did not place it even was Iggy Pop. So there you go, you learn something new every day. I enjoyed the album and the songs that I knew, but the other songs did not hit me as much as I was expecting. So... three it is.

Meh. Iggy Pop on his own is a lot like when he's with the Stooges to me. Some good songs but not enough for a whole dynamite album, and I'd rather just have his greatest hits. The title track and Passengers are classics - great, catchy songs. The rest I kind of shrug my shoulders at, except at times being slightly intrigued by Sixteen, Success, and Neighborhood Threat. Moving on...

Eccentric pop, what a coool cat. His mannerisms remind me of Prince a bit. I can see why people like Iggy. 3.4

Have never heard any of his music at all. Have definitely heard of this first track. Pretty good album. Very different. Not poppy but not super rocking.

Couple good tracks on here - listenable - not bad.

Better lyrics than I expected. And some interesting bits.

First Iggy Pop album I've listened to and it was enjoyable enough. Would've hit different listening to it back in the late 70s. Still holds up though.

The Passenger and Lust for Life stick out - as they were covered and used over and over again in media. Aside from that, not much here.

well it's good, kinda scary 3/5

7/10 Highlights: Lust For Life Fall In Love With Me

Good enough but nothing special

It was okay.

Some bangers, some filler.

Sweet sixteen a little rapey

Not really my thing, but it’s pretty solid overall. 6/10

It’s fun, it’s light. Perfect for throwing on at a party or a road trip.

✅✅ while having a fair amount of influence from Bowie, this feels distinctly punk in a way that Bowie at his most confrontational never did. It still feels fresh, the vocals in parts almost sound like something from the aughts. wildly ahead of its time. might bump to ✅✅✅ with time.

Underwhelming, second track is awful

Was expecting something a bit edgier. David Bowie’s influence is heavily felt. pretty standard pop music, probably a little bit ahead of the trend at the time. Not a stand out for me.

3.5 out of 5 Stars. I can’t help but tie Iggy Pop and his songs to Trainspotting, and the starting song’s energy still feels as frenetic as a junkie running from the cops high on heroine and adrenaline. What struck me on this album is how refreshing it must have been to hear this sound in the late 70s. As things were becoming more digitized and electronic, here were some stooges that could put on a stripped down, energetic show. Most of the songs are kinda forgettable tbh

Iggy Pop reads on paper like his stuff would be right up my alley but I just can’t get into him.

yes, well

its fine. i did dig 'Turn Blue' and 'The Passenger', but I don't think I can give it a higher score on account of 'Sixteen'... which is very clearly about... well, banging a 16 year old

A good solo outing for Iggy.

Better than I remember and than expected. Could see myself going back another time if out of other music.

Fine enough

Knew more of these songs than I gave myself credit for. Thought I just didn’t know any Iggy Pop by the unforgettable What Happens in Vegas commercials featured Lust For Life

2.5ish but I’ll round up. Can hear the Bowie fingerprints

It was good. I don’t know how to explain it other than 70s 60s rock.

Fine easy listening. Nothing overly memorable but a decent listen.

OK, knew it before

Half timeless bops, half faux Floyd 70s rock opera that didn't land for me. Punk half was great.

Some tracks were a little “yelly” for me but it was overall interesting.

I'm more of a stooges guy. I hate lust for life, but I love the passenger. Everything else is solid if not great. Classic 3.
