Popular Reviews

Funeral by Arcade Fire

I got a fevah and the only curah is more millennial whoop!!!

Sulk by The Associates

Very happy to DNF this POS.

Paranoid by Black Sabbath

Right on!

21 by Adele

Really seems like it should go in the pop shit that I despise and has no place on my playlist category, but for whatever reason I fucking love this!

4-Star Albums (135)

1-Star Albums (36)

All Ratings (525)

Abbey Road by Beatles
Feb 20 2025

So good on so many levels, plus big nostalgia points.

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Feb 21 2025

Downgraded to a 2 after subsequent listens...just don't really like the musical storytelling that this fella does. Still would be worth more spins and reconsideration though.

Iron Maiden by Iron Maiden
Feb 24 2025

Revisited this a few months later and kicked it up a star. Actually is really fucking good and could climb some more. Turned off by the juvenile Eddie artwork.

Live At Leeds by The Who
Feb 25 2025

Never really been a The Who fan, but this is pretty awesome. Just don't care for all the various Tommy rock opera stuff.

A Hard Day's Night by Beatles
Feb 26 2025

Absolute classic. Bumped up to a 4 on subsequent relistens.

Trans Europe Express by Kraftwerk
Feb 27 2025

Stoked to have this one pop up today. Amazing classic that's worth coming back to again and again.

Blood On The Tracks by Bob Dylan
Mar 01 2025

Should go on the albums to listen to at least 1001 times before you die list.

Violent Femmes by Violent Femmes
Mar 01 2025

An 80s classic...Bumped back up to 4 stars on subsequent re-listens.

The Visitors by ABBA
Mar 02 2025

Definitely falls into the category of I'd be happy to never hear this again. Just grating and moist of the time sounds like a musical soundtrack.

Diamond Life by Sade
Mar 03 2025

So smooth...perfect for cooking shrimp scampi in a Speedo for your lady.

Cosmo's Factory by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Mar 04 2025

First 4 tracks are annoying rockabilly noisy shit, but that last 7 are pure excellence!

Mar 05 2025

New to me. Definitely has a Father John Misty vibe goin' on. Worth a listen, but really doesn't grab me enough for many re-listens.

Giant Steps by The Boo Radleys
Mar 06 2025

Interesting but a bunch of songs are grating, noisy messes. A few worth potentially high-grading, but as a full album, probably not really worth the time.

Paranoid by Black Sabbath
Mar 07 2025

Right on!

Mar 08 2025

Brings the muthafuckin' ruckus!!! Some cool stuff and I get why it’s on the list, but rap just isn't my thing.

Meat Puppets II by Meat Puppets
Mar 09 2025

Needs to be heavier in the rotation

Ocean Rain by Echo And The Bunnymen
Mar 10 2025

Was glad to revisit this one and the tracks other than The Killing Moon, many of which are excellent.

Mar 11 2025

The soundtrack of my life for the last 38 years.

All Mod Cons by The Jam
Mar 12 2025

Mildly interesting from a historical perspective but not really my jam.

Lust For Life by Iggy Pop
Mar 13 2025

Solidly good album. A couple bangers and really like the Bowie-ness that’s infused on the rest.

Nick Of Time by Bonnie Raitt
Mar 14 2025

So smooth…late 80s anti-nostalgia kicking in, since this seemed to be playing everywhere…great album overall, but really my favorite genre/style

At Fillmore East by The Allman Brothers Band
Mar 15 2025

Pretty excellent live recording. Not really my favorite sub genre but worth a spin every now and then. Funny to think about this thing kicking around in my car on a homemade cassette tape back in the day. Kind of a staple of the hippie-ish set, since Phish hadn't really come on the scene yet.

BEYONCÉ by Beyoncé
Mar 16 2025

Sexy, overproduced pop stuff. Worth a listen, but about once is plenty.

Real Life by Magazine
Mar 17 2025

Completely new to me and I like it!

Tidal by Fiona Apple
Mar 18 2025

It’s good!

C'est Chic by CHIC
Mar 19 2025

I diggit. Dropped down to 3 stars given all the great albums piling into the 4s.

Madman Across The Water by Elton John
Mar 21 2025

Bunch of gems in addition to the classics. Might have to up rating to a 5 after a few more spins.

In A Silent Way by Miles Davis
Mar 22 2025

Love it! Another re-discovery.

Vulnicura by Björk
Mar 23 2025

Annoying AF

Amnesiac by Radiohead
Mar 24 2025

Fucking awful.

Songs In The Key Of Life by Stevie Wonder
Mar 26 2025

Fantastic album! 4.49/5 - just because there are a few tracks that don't land for me.

Street Life by The Crusaders
Mar 27 2025

Perfect soundtrack for a 70s-era key party.

Red Dirt Girl by Emmylou Harris
Mar 28 2025

Had forgotten about this old favorite. Great album.

Sheet Music by 10cc
Mar 30 2025

Moderately painful…weird proggy operatic stuff from a two-hit wonder band from the 70s. Probably should be a 1, but it’s kind of interesting so glad that I gave it a listen but once is enough, so this gets a very charitable 2.

The Suburbs by Arcade Fire
Apr 01 2025

Another re-discovery. Solidly good album.

The Beach Boys Today! by The Beach Boys
Apr 02 2025

I just really fucking hate the Beach Boys. Old falsetto cheesy shit that may be objectively great for whatever reason, but no desire to ever hear this again unless it's part of a twisted David Lynchesque sort of film.

Bone Machine by Tom Waits
Apr 03 2025

Oh hell yeah! Haven't given this enough plays since I bought the CD right after it came out, and it's really good to get re-introduced to. Really like the bleakness given my increasingly bleak moods.

Juju by Siouxsie And The Banshees
Apr 04 2025

Love me some Siouxsie Sioux, but just not this complete album all that much.

Superfly by Curtis Mayfield
Apr 05 2025

Pretty fly album!

Apr 06 2025

Some cool stuff but the repetition gets really annoying and accomplishes the amazing effect of making something that starts as interesting…just dull. Was glad to get to know it, and might give it a listen again at some point, but was glad that it ended.

Songs Of Leonard Cohen by Leonard Cohen
Apr 08 2025

Was expecting a higher rating, but the musicality just isn't that interesting for too many re-listens.

Oedipus Schmoedipus by Barry Adamson
Apr 09 2025

Basically sounds like a soundtrack to a David Lynch movie which I guess it partially is. Should maybe be a 3 but downgraded to a 2 due to some of the spooky weird shit that just doesn't land.

Kala by M.I.A.
Apr 10 2025

Mostly annoying.

The Message by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
Apr 16 2025

Awesome album, not my favorite genre though, otherwise it'd be higher.

Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park
Apr 18 2025

Hey bro, is that Butt Rock? Crank it up !!!

Survivor by Destiny's Child
Apr 20 2025

Kinda fun

Mr. Tambourine Man by The Byrds
Apr 21 2025

Kinda fun, retro sound and liked it a surprising amount…maybe because the jangle DNA is infused in REM and various alt country.

La Revancha Del Tango by Gotan Project
Apr 23 2025

Hipster hotel lounge background music. Not bad per se, but not particularly interesting.

Mask by Bauhaus
Apr 24 2025

Love me some goth stuff once in a while, and great to get to know this one in more depth.

Let Love Rule by Lenny Kravitz
Apr 25 2025

One good classic and the rest is ok. Dude with a nose ring in 1989 was pretty far out…

Savane by Ali Farka Touré
Apr 27 2025
Stand! by Sly & The Family Stone
Apr 28 2025
Chris by Christine and the Queens
Apr 30 2025
Wild Wood by Paul Weller
May 04 2025

File under: “Why is it on the list?” Not bad, pleasant enough, but lyrically and musically relatively uninteresting.

May 05 2025

Spaced out for a little at one point and thought I was listening to Stevie Wonder. Bonus points for the digeridoo.

Foo Fighters by Foo Fighters
May 06 2025

Haven't been able to get in the Foo Fighters that much, but this was pretty great overall.

May 07 2025

Pretty sure that just about all rap is just going to end in the dustbin of the 1s, no matter how objectively good it is.

Tom Tom Club by Tom Tom Club
May 08 2025

Funky, funky, summer fun.

Os Mutantes by Os Mutantes
May 09 2025

Kickass weird and fun. Can't see frequent re-listens, to too novel and creative not to give it a 4.

The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails
May 10 2025

Grindy noisy delightful. Didn't actually miss this one back in the day, the industrial stuff just isn't my thing.

Kenya by Machito
May 11 2025

Brassy but awesome vibe!

Dire Straits by Dire Straits
May 12 2025

So excellent, never gets old.

May 14 2025

I think I’m starting to understand all the hate directed at britpop.

Parallel Lines by Blondie
May 15 2025

Not punk. New wave, totally...

Deja Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
May 16 2025

Would be a 5 if it weren’t for a couple cheesy AF Graham Nash songs.

Born In The U.S.A. by Bruce Springsteen
May 17 2025

Really don’t dig The Boss brand of wall of sound, or the anti-nostalgia of the 80s when this shit was everywhere, but the simpler tunes are pretty great.

Technique by New Order
May 18 2025

Beep, bop, boop! Love me some New Order, just not very often.

Pink Flag by Wire
May 19 2025

Don’t really consider myself a punk fan, but for some reason this one really works.

Music for the Masses by Depeche Mode
May 20 2025

Beep, bop, boop! Love me some Depeche Mode, just not very often.

Suede by Suede
May 21 2025

Some of it's OK, but a fair bit of droning and boring bits. Bit of a meh overall, not bad but nothing especially compelling.

Hearts And Bones by Paul Simon
May 22 2025

Excellent overall despite the stupid fucking cars song. Bumped it up to a 4 after recovering from the PTSD brought on by the stupid fucking cars song.

At San Quentin by Johnny Cash
May 23 2025

Definitely belongs on the list for the historical interest, but nothing especially compelling about the music or specific recording to listen to very often.

Getz/Gilberto by Stan Getz
May 24 2025

I can still smell the cardboard sleeve of the vinyl record my folks had. One of my earliest memories of music here and phenomenal album start to finish.

War by U2
May 25 2025

Another that might not warrant so high a rating as it got based on the pure musicality, but lands some solid nostalgia points.

The Genius Of Ray Charles by Ray Charles
May 26 2025

Love the late 50s vibe on this one, but not so into the big band brassiness. Still excellent though.

Fear Of Music by Talking Heads
May 27 2025

Another one that was a repeat-listen obsession on a homemade cassette tape many years ago. Love this album start to finish!

Sunday At The Village Vanguard by Bill Evans Trio
May 28 2025

Sounds like generic lounge music on a cursory listen, but a deep listen with headphones reveals so much more. This is one where reading some of the backstory prompted a closer look and a much greater appreciation than what's just on the surface.

A Short Album About Love by The Divine Comedy
May 30 2025

Really don't know about this one. Kind of weird, and not really in a good way. Annoying theatrical/cinematic vocals and stupid lyrics. Managed to listen to it more than once out of morbid curiosity to see if any of it would resonate - which it didn't, so since it wasn't awfully awful, I guess it gets a 1.5 rounded up to a 2. Will give it a bonus half point for lyrics referencing horse shit.

Guitar Town by Steve Earle
Jun 05 2025

I like Steve Earle. I like the breakfasts you get in the truck stops he sings about, but they often need salt, pepper, and a dash of hot sauce. Steve’s music could really use more musical salt and pepper and a big splash of hot sauce.

Zombie by Fela Kuti
Jun 07 2025
Smile by Brian Wilson
Jun 13 2025

This album made me feel physically ill.

The Bends by Radiohead
Jun 14 2025

I guess I don’t hate Radiohead anymore. Thank you Generator.

69 Love Songs by The Magnetic Fields
Jun 16 2025

Might be ok if the best bits were condensed into 1 short album maybe with 6 to 9 love songs.

Garbage by Garbage
Jun 18 2025

I kind of diggit!

Harvest by Neil Young
Jun 19 2025
Heroes by David Bowie
Jun 23 2025
Two Dancers by Wild Beasts
Jun 25 2025

Really not too sure what to do about this one. Music is kind of cool but weird vocal stylings are a bit of a turnoff. Kind of growing on me over time, but is repellent enough that I’m not sure I’d seek it out again. OK in small doses.

Master Of Puppets by Metallica
Jun 30 2025

A sassy little album that’ll sneak up and slap you on the ass when you’re not looking.

Surf's Up by The Beach Boys
Jul 01 2025

Ya, OK whatever. Not horrible, but no real interest in hearing this again,

Ill Communication by Beastie Boys
Jul 05 2025

Time to go make some mashed potatoes.

Butterfly by Mariah Carey
Jul 09 2025

No. Just fuck no.

Jul 10 2025

Highly repetitive, mostly uninteresting electronica that's not too unpleasant, and has a few fun samples, but not really worth the time. OK for background noise while working.

The Rolling Stones by The Rolling Stones
Jul 16 2025

Absolutely love The Stones and was glad to experience this once (and only once) to get an idea where they started, but was glad to have it over and have zero interest in hearing any of this again - lots of kinda OK white britboy covers of various blues songs.

Eagles by Eagles
Jul 23 2025
Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
Jul 24 2025
LP1 by FKA twigs
Jul 25 2025
Gold by Ryan Adams
Aug 06 2025

Play Summer of ‘69!

Cross by Justice
Aug 07 2025
Shleep by Robert Wyatt
Aug 10 2025
Siembra by Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
Aug 11 2025
Odessey And Oracle by The Zombies
Aug 12 2025

Really dig it, probably a 3.5, but not a common ‘go to’ genre so giving it a 3 for now. Needs more relistens.

Back to Mystery City by Hanoi Rocks
Aug 14 2025

“Important” because this was basically proto-hair metal, but lyrically and musically a whole lotta what.ever. Not really worth the time.

Debut by Björk
Aug 16 2025
Truth by Jeff Beck
Aug 18 2025
GI by Germs
Aug 21 2025
m b v by My Bloody Valentine
Aug 22 2025

At one point I thought I heard something interesting but it turned out it was a moth stuck in the ceiling light.

1984 by Van Halen
Aug 30 2025
Yeezus by Kanye West
Sep 11 2025

Just no.

The Who Sell Out by The Who
Sep 21 2025

Need to do full listen. Temp 3 for now

Idlewild by Everything But The Girl
Sep 29 2025

Not especially bad or offensive, but also not especially good and was one of those albums that I just wanted to end sooner rather than later.

Hotel California by Eagles
Oct 02 2025

Turn up The Eagles the neighbors are listening!

Time (The Revelator) by Gillian Welch
Oct 15 2025

Really love her earlier stuff and this is OK, but if these songs were any fucking slower they'd have to be played backwards to be understandable.

Brothers by The Black Keys
Oct 25 2025
Rapture by Anita Baker
Oct 27 2025
Blur by Blur

Pleasant enough but I get why they get all the hate. 2.5 rounded up for the easy listening.

Highly Evolved by The Vines

Compared to Nirvana. OK. But not Nirvana.

White Ladder by David Gray
Apr 28 2026

I'm pretty sure that I once heard one of these songs in the waiting area at a generic fast-casual restaurant somewhere in a generic suburb of a mid-sized, immemorable US city.

Lots of toe-tapping', finger snappin' little ditties on this album, and when the vocals hit, I'm up on my feet and a dancin' like Elaine from Seinfeld.

Less annoying than the other blur album I got so far.

Fuzzy Logic by Super Furry Animals
Jun 11 2026

I got a fevah and the only curah is more lah, lah, lah, lah, lah from yet another britpop bunch. Kind of amazing that this was ever popular from a country that's probably hungover 50% of the time... this must've landed for the other 50% of the time that they either were working on getting drunk or were drunk.
