1001 Albums Summary

Worth an occasional spin, but not my favorite form of metal.

So good on so many levels, plus big nostalgia points.

Downgraded to a 2 after subsequent listens...just don't really like the musical storytelling that this fella does. Still would be worth more spins and reconsideration though.

Revisited this a few months later and kicked it up a star. Actually is really fucking good and could climb some more. Turned off by the juvenile Eddie artwork.

Never really been a The Who fan, but this is pretty awesome. Just don't care for all the various Tommy rock opera stuff.

Definitely falls into the category of I'd be happy to never hear this again. Just grating and moist of the time sounds like a musical soundtrack.

First 4 tracks are annoying rockabilly noisy shit, but that last 7 are pure excellence!

New to me. Definitely has a Father John Misty vibe goin' on. Worth a listen, but really doesn't grab me enough for many re-listens.

Interesting but a bunch of songs are grating, noisy messes. A few worth potentially high-grading, but as a full album, probably not really worth the time.

Pretty excellent live recording. Not really my favorite sub genre but worth a spin every now and then. Funny to think about this thing kicking around in my car on a homemade cassette tape back in the day. Kind of a staple of the hippie-ish set, since Phish hadn't really come on the scene yet.

Sexy, overproduced pop stuff. Worth a listen, but about once is plenty.

Moderately painful…weird proggy operatic stuff from a two-hit wonder band from the 70s. Probably should be a 1, but it’s kind of interesting so glad that I gave it a listen but once is enough, so this gets a very charitable 2.

I just really fucking hate the Beach Boys. Old falsetto cheesy shit that may be objectively great for whatever reason, but no desire to ever hear this again unless it's part of a twisted David Lynchesque sort of film.

Oh hell yeah! Haven't given this enough plays since I bought the CD right after it came out, and it's really good to get re-introduced to. Really like the bleakness given my increasingly bleak moods.

Love me some Siouxsie Sioux, but just not this complete album all that much.

Some cool stuff but the repetition gets really annoying and accomplishes the amazing effect of making something that starts as interesting…just dull. Was glad to get to know it, and might give it a listen again at some point, but was glad that it ended.

Haven't been able to get in the Foo Fighters that much, but this was pretty great overall.

Pretty sure that just about all rap is just going to end in the dustbin of the 1s, no matter how objectively good it is.

Really don’t dig The Boss brand of wall of sound, or the anti-nostalgia of the 80s when this shit was everywhere, but the simpler tunes are pretty great.

Some of it's OK, but a fair bit of droning and boring bits. Bit of a meh overall, not bad but nothing especially compelling.

I can still smell the cardboard sleeve of the vinyl record my folks had. One of my earliest memories of music here and phenomenal album start to finish.

Sounds like generic lounge music on a cursory listen, but a deep listen with headphones reveals so much more. This is one where reading some of the backstory prompted a closer look and a much greater appreciation than what's just on the surface.

Really don't know about this one. Kind of weird, and not really in a good way. Annoying theatrical/cinematic vocals and stupid lyrics. Managed to listen to it more than once out of morbid curiosity to see if any of it would resonate - which it didn't, so since it wasn't awfully awful, I guess it gets a 1.5 rounded up to a 2. Will give it a bonus half point for lyrics referencing horse shit.

I like Steve Earle. I like the breakfasts you get in the truck stops he sings about, but they often need salt, pepper, and a dash of hot sauce. Steve’s music could really use more musical salt and pepper and a big splash of hot sauce.

Feels weird to drop 2 stars on one of my most favorite bands, but really never could get into this album.

Really not too sure what to do about this one. Music is kind of cool but weird vocal stylings are a bit of a turnoff. Kind of growing on me over time, but is repellent enough that I’m not sure I’d seek it out again. OK in small doses.

Highly repetitive, mostly uninteresting electronica that's not too unpleasant, and has a few fun samples, but not really worth the time. OK for background noise while working.

Absolutely love The Stones and was glad to experience this once (and only once) to get an idea where they started, but was glad to have it over and have zero interest in hearing any of this again - lots of kinda OK white britboy covers of various blues songs.

“Important” because this was basically proto-hair metal, but lyrically and musically a whole lotta what.ever. Not really worth the time.
