Reviews (page 9 of 13)

Good stuff. I liked this a lot better than The Idiot.

This is so much more enjoyable for me than the Stooges. It does kinda sound like Bowie at points though. Pretty solid record. 7/10

I’ve never really listened to Iggy Pop. I enjoyed this album. Some Weird Sin and the Passenger were my favorites.

Fainuț.

first listen not too bad

Ballsy snarling attitude begging you to kick open the door and strut down to the bar. Occasional glimmers of a Bowieish croon break up the tone and provide some light and shade. Feels classic, lots you recognise from cultural touchstones, but not something I'll put putting into regular rotation, in spite of some epic needle drops.

Meh...another fine but not super interesting album. Also, ended the album on a bad note with that weird, creepy song about a girl who looks older than she is. 5/10

Better than expected!

Blues vibes with david bowie cool beats and controversial lyrics.

Not really my cup of tea, though The Passenger was alright.

i can see why this would be 5 stars for so many people, but it’s not my thing. would still recommend people give a listen !

The first few were great and almost made me want to give it a 4. Tonight and Success were the start of the songs that were meh. Turn Blue was 7 minutes of iggy making random noises. Fall in love with me was boring. But I liked the first 4

Iggy makes fine music that for whatever reason RARELY grips me (Tonight, success and fall in love with me are great). Its cromulent outside of some ‘concepts’ that haven’t aged well.

Do we not all lust of life...

it was fine! i honestly don't remember anything from my listen of it! all i know about iggy pop is that he played yelgrun the vorta in an episode of star trek: deep space nine!

I liked the beginning of the album specifically, of course Lust for Life and The Passenger, but the end of the album was unremarkable with some definitely some cringy lyrics. I got David Bowie vibes while listening, and what do I find out after listening that he collaborated and helped produce the album, so points for that.

Theatrical, like a punky version of Lou Reed. The classics outweigh the deep cuts. To my surprise the end is better than the beggining.

success is probably the best song turn blue has a really awesome guitar line and melody but omg those adlibs are not it. not really a fan of the music but it doesn't sound awful

Sounded generic. Nothing really stood out.

Some hits some misses

I didn’t vibe with it but still good music.

Some great gems like Lust for Life and The Passenger, but the album lost their appeal by the end where the songs just sound the same.

It was okay, nothing crazy, but I appreciate every time I can get to listen to a classic artist or album that I’ve never heard before.

I didn't know this singer. Some good tunes. A good album overall.

Standouts: “Lust for Life” and “Passenger.” “Sixteen” is more than a little problematic.

It's got a good sound but hearing Iggy go on about wanting to bang 16 year olds and young girls doesn't age well.

Never knew, but this is a bowie album with a different voice. Quite enjoyable, but now I almost feel Iggy is somewhat of a fraud.

It says this is a rock/punk album. It doesnt really sound rock or punk to me, but I did like it more than I was expecting. Apparently he is the godfather of punk tho so he knows better than me🤷🏾‍♂️ Sidenote: Researching him was interesting. He was friends with David Bowie and worked on this album with him. He was one of the first people to stage dive. And he got scoliosis and one leg is shorter than the other, which is why he's always doing wierd poses

Possibly one of the greatest opening songs. Epic drum sounds, compelling guitar lines and solid bass driving it all along. Sadly only The Passenger is close to living up to this, and Sixteen drags it all right down. Still, complete banger of an opener.

Mostly enjoyed it musically. Bright, grinding, sleezy rock'n'roll. Half a point up for having The Passenger and Lust for Life on it, but a full point down for all the 'young girl' creepiness.

quintessential 80’s europop

I like this album, the songs are ok but it doesn't make me want to listen to it again. The passenger and lust for life are great songs but overused in media over the years and I think familiarity bred boredom.

It’s a great record, what can I say. Two strong singles do the heavy lifting, with some nice album cuts.

Decent album not amazing or life changing to me though

Boomin' and groovin'. Iggy's voice is so iconic, I could tell just from listening. Lyrics are pretty good; laughed at the end of "Success"! Pop knows how to set a mood with just his voice. I commend him for that. Some tracks, like "Sixteen" and "Turning Blue" suck, though. Docking a star for that. Production was great, and the mood that the songs set was on point. Didn't really move me or change my life. Docking a star.

Прослушала на фоне, песни не пропускала, но и не добавила ни одну в плейлист. Я понимаю, почему его любят, но это не моё

Passengers is doing the heavy lifting in this three star rating

This is a generous 3.

Досить добре

Solid rock record

Very much Lou Reed and David Bowie but not the biggest fan

It was ok.

Ok. its kidna nice at its best and annoying at its worst. I just kinda got the ramblings of a drunk lounge singer

Lust for Life is an iconic record but for me its achievements are overshadowed by the fact that David Bowie penned most of it. For me it has the same sound and feel of Bowie's own Hansa Studio albums...in fact I don't feel we get a true Iggy Pop solo album until 1979's New Values.

Need to listen during summer time. Turn blue was stand out

Point off for ‘sixteen’

Not bad but I don't think I'll be adding it to my regular listens.

Couple good songs, enjoyed the album but wouldn’t rush back to it

93/1001 First listen. Curiously I have no memory of hearing the song Lust for life until I was in my 20’s when it was on the Trainspotting soundtrack. When I found out it was Iggy pop I was startled. He doesn’t make good music I thought. In spite of this and then finding out The passenger was him as well I still didn’t think there was anything more to this guy. Creepy 70’s lyrics aside this was a good pick today. Definitely has the Bowie sound. I did not expect to like this at all. I’m not sure why. Will listen to this again though. 5/10

Iggy is alright.

has some enjoyable songs

3 out of 5 Great music and energy

Two very famous classic songs and a few that I won't remember.

Second Iggy Pop record in a row. Good stuff.

Had Some Classics, but was mid

bangers and mash

Rolling stones + the kinks Really enjoyable album, not my favorite rock album from the 1970s but a great listen, makes me want to listen to more iggy pop and get into his music in 2026.

This was way better and more enjoyable than I expected. Wish I could give an extra half star

Definitely new for me but I did not hate it!

Rating: 7/10 Short Review: Great riffs, would be better if he spent less time talking about how young his girlfriend looks and how he’s in love with a 16 year old. Top 3: Lust for Life, Passengers,

it was not bad , felt like a classic movie tracks

Turn Blue really reminds me of the Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack I really enjoyed ‘Tonight’ and ‘Success’- ‘Success’ I thought was really fun and groovy Overall I really likes the album I thought it was very danceable but also lyrically strong, my favourite song was ‘Turn Blue’, I liked that it had a different sound to the rest of the album

Glad it found me I think it’s great

It was a fine album - research into iggy pop shows me some questionable behavior but also sent me down a rabbit hole of groupie behavior from the 70s - fascinating

Solid, if not good. Can't say I'm Iggy's fan, but at least it wasn't boring. Trainspotting song is like an old friend, always happy to hear it.

Best leuk. Wel wat repetitief. Beetje luchtgitaar concert voor Bodi soundtrack voor mij ^^

fine i guess

It was alright. The instrumentals were mildly interesting but I found the vocals to be mostly annoying to listen to. Overall I wouldn't be upset if it randomly came on near me but I wont go out of my way to listen to it again. Would give a 2.5 if I could.

This album now seems less than what I remembered- as these four tracks are what I remember most and are now the highlights. 1. Lust For Life 2. Sixteen 3. The Passenger 4. Neighborhood Threat

best song: tonight worst: sixteen not a huge fan of this style, but i liked the diversity of sound and instruments. did not appreciate how long the songs were… sorry i like short songs!

guay, pero no es el álbum de mi vida. si ha sido super importante e influyente para la música en esa época, genial, pero personalmente no me ha fascinado. está bien tho canción fav según esta primera impresión: some weird sin

Better than I assumed it would be

not my vibe personally but it was still great

Nice album.

Surprisingly enjoyable, catchy rock and roll

Vocals are low

Favourites: 1. Some Weird Sin 2. The Passenger 3. Neighbourhood Threat Least Favourite: Sixteen

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of Iggy Pop before this moment in time. I’m indifferent to this to be quite honest.

I'd give it 4 if Iggy pop hadn't included his pedophilia anthem on this album. He was 30 when he wrote this.

It was cool I slept to it

Uh… it’s okay I guess. Is Sixteen supposed to be weird?

i guess it’s cool to be 640 years old 3.5

The passenger is great

Good 3.5

The well-known tracks are the good ones, and the only ones I’d return to. Every song felt much longer than it needed to be or actually was. Turn Blue was especially long and cringeworthy, but everything else was listenable and enjoyable to a point.

Pretty good. You can clearly hear Bowie all through this. Lacks the raw energy of The Stooges, but still a decent listen.

There are some songs I really enjoy on here, mostly the well known ones like Lust for Life and The Passenger. Also the influence that this record continues to have on modern music is absolutely undeniable. That said, I found probably half the tracks to be pretty forgettable with uninspired lyrics. 3/5

Favourite tracks: Lust for Life Success Turn Blue Fall in Love with Me Least Favourite Track: Sixteen

Opener is great. Adopts many 70s stylings as pastiche. Cool drums. Couple catchy songs. But doesn’t do much to anchor me in the album

overall sounds was good, but the vocals were mediocre. horrible album cover

I liked it more than I expected to, can def hear the Bowie influence

Wow. I’ve always loved Lust for Life and The Passenger but I’m not sure if I’ve ever listened to this entire album. Iggy Pop has always been really hit or miss with me. I’m really enjoying some of these songs and some of them are hard to listen to. I’m sure the almost 50 year gap between its release and now is likely part of it.

Quite enjoyable, nothing amazingly mind-blowing, just a good album.

solid, dug the more david bowie-ish stuff more but its a great album regardless

Great!

i enjoyed this much more than i thought i would.

decent3.5/5

Some really intriguing tunes and then some that were a bit too weird for my taste. Overall i enjoyed the experience, but probably would cherry pick a few specific songs for a next listen.

Liked this more than I anticipated but still not something I’d ever really circle back to. Pretty frontloaded, title track and The Passenger the best on here

3.5 really, The Idiot is better.

Stand outs: Some Weird Sin, Tonight and Success. All the instrumentals are brilliant. Love how much Bowie is on this album. Low points: Turn Blue - not a fan of this one at all

Pretty good but not great

I enjoyed the second half of this album much more than the first. I actually didn’t care that much for the two big songs, Lust for Life and Passenger. They kind of feel lifeless compared to the other songs

not my usual music genre but i liked it

Not his best but it does have "The Passenger" on it which is a great song

I know it was a collab with Bowie, but the whole things just reminds me of Bowie, but worse.

A good album, just not for me. I can see how he influenced Lana del rey, but its still too much pedophila for me. The songs feel a bit repetitive if you listen to them back to back, but then again its not my cup of tea.

You can hear Bowie's influence in this album. Definitely a good lusten. Iggy deserves the following and devotion of his fans. This was the first time I've listened to this album all the way through and I must say it's much better than I thought it was going to be.

This has probably my favorite Iggy Pop song, The Passenger, and my least favorite, Sixteen(this song is terrible).

The Passenger is great: lyrics, music, and especially the production. Big +1 for that track. The blues song sounds like a blues song. Big -1 for that one.

Helt ålreit.

Ganske ok, liker et par låter gankse godt og et par er litt kjedelige

classic sound, but nothing that stuck with me

I always think of him as metal, but this album is more blues and jazz. The passenger has been my go-to karaoke song for nearly 20 years because it's the only song I can sing.

Oddly, I went into this expecting to enjoy it but I preferred the earlier Iggy Pop albums it seems.

Good album. List for Life and The Passenger are great, the rest a bit less so

This has some great songs. Awful cover though, looks like it would sound like Cliff Richard. Some real Bowie and Stones sounds.

Recorded with Bowie around the same time as Heroes, many of these songs have the same almost mechanical guitar tones as that album. The first four tracks take these sounds in a garage rock direction, but the energy is too low for anything outside of the drums on the title track to sound all that exciting. On the fifth track the album moves to a more post punk sound, and it produces the album's two best songs in "Tonight" and "Neighborhood Threat." The former sounds like a Bowie song, to the point you wish he was on lead vocals instead of backing. "Turn Blue" apes Lou Reed instead, and its spoken word rambling makes it the album's worst song. Most of the album's lyrics were written at the last minute, and this is often apparent. Caught between punk and pop, this is a nice album with weak enough writing that it pales in comparison to both Heroes and the Stooges.

Bowie being involved is quite obvious again, which makes this more interesting at times. The Passenger sounds like the better version of a song by the doors. The production quality seems flat or a bit over compressed. Might be a mood, but this didn't do it for me.

My first foray with Iggy! Turn Blue is a great track. Thought the rest was solid, less punk than I expected.

I thought I'd enjoy this album a bit more, so perhaps my expectations were a bit higher. It's not a bad album, but apart from Lust For Life and The Passanger, the other songs were just okay, and they had a bit like Stones/bluesy rather than experimental or anything more captivating. Perhaps I need more relistens. 3 stars now.

Was alright

Ok. Not for me. 3 stars. I also don’t love David Bowie.

Iggy Pop’s Lust for Life is a lively, swagger-filled record that still holds a certain charm decades after its release, but it’s not without its shortcomings. The album bursts out of the gate with its iconic title track—an undeniably infectious rhythm and one of Pop’s most recognizable vocal performances. It sets a high bar, though, that the rest of the album doesn’t always match. Tracks like “The Passenger” showcase Pop at his most compelling: cool, detached, and effortlessly memorable. Songs such as “Some Weird Sin” also highlight the strong chemistry between Iggy and David Bowie, whose influence shapes much of the album’s energy. But several cuts feel less inspired, drifting into repetitive riffs or lyrical ideas that don’t fully take off. The album’s raw production, while part of its identity, occasionally works against it, making some moments feel thinner or more rushed than they should. Overall, Lust for Life is a solid record with standout highs, but its inconsistency holds it back from being a start-to-finish classic. It’s energetic, influential, and at times brilliant—just not flawless.

Not bad at all.

Great, dark, but hopeful tracks. You can really still hear Bowie’s influence even though Iggy was trying to make his own mark. Passenger and Lust for Life are the highlights for me, and loved the mood in general, but the whole thing didn’t quite come together. Probably a 3.5.

мид

Under normal circumstances, I would’ve given this album a 2, but it has The Passenger, so into the 3 pile it goes

From a songwriting perspective, this album is hella fun. The highlights are incredibly catchy. It's no surprise that Bowie did some production work on it! But why, oh why, must the audio quality be so bad?! We saw this with Raw Power as well, and I just don't understand the appeal -- such incredible talent and instrumentation, and then they go and mix it all to sound like a crunchy JPEG. It's baffling to me. Standouts: Lust For Life • Tonight • Success • Fall In Love With Me

Very solid. It reminds me of the best stuff by The Velvet Underground but somehow it has less sauce. Not exactly sure what this is missing to elevate it for me, but it's still super enjoyable.

Liked it more than I thought I would but "Turn Blue" made me wish I didn't have ears

I feel like Iggy Pop really encapsulates a certain vibe stylistically that doesn’t exist in the world today. so it’s cool to be able to step back and live in that world for a little while

Must say I don’t quite understand rye fascination with Iggy Pop, this being the second album of his we encounter on this list. I mostly knew him as the guy who still doesn’t wear a shirt when he performs, but now I understand he also wrote ‘The Passenger’. A descent song for sure, but nothing that warrants putting the whole album on the list. ’Neighbourhood Threat’ was also pretty cool, otherwise I didn’t find much for me on the album. Pretty generic rock, and considering it came out ’77 it can hardly count as that innovative? Maybe I’m just out of touch, don’t know.

Um disco razoável, impregnado pela marca sonora de David Bowie. As faixas mais inclinadas ao pop são mais interessantes dos que as puramente rock'n'roll.

Much better then his stooges stuff

To be honest my only exposure to Iggy Pops music until today had been the opening scene from Trainspotting, and passenger and maybe a couple of other tracks being in the cultural ether, but I had never listened to an album. This record is brimming with energy. A nihilistic sneer delivers every line. Without the vocal delivery this could become generic rock n roll, but Iggy Pops distinctive vocal style raises the tracks up and gives them individuality. It’s easy to hear the influence he has had on music, and it’s a good listen, not a life changer for me, but good stuff.

Fun album, not that consistent tbh. The two singles are great, the rest is kind of average. Great production, though.

Alright album. I think I liked 3 or 4 of the 9 songs on here, but overall it was just okay. The Passenger is a classic, but as a song it’s fine. I think the vocals were the standout on this album and what I remember the most. Some of the backing was pretty good.

i honestly had no idea that david bowie produced the first three iggy pop albums and also was like the recording engineer for them? kinda random as all fuck

More varied musically than expected

couple of bangers but the rest is a bit meh

The Passenger is my fav in here. Would have been a fun person to see live in concert.

Feel like I’m listening to super hans. Not bad but not my cup of tea

An exceptionally Bowie flavored experience. I'd hesitate to call this punk, as it has much more of a rock feel to it. Not bad, but I'd rather just listen to a Bowie album.

First, what a terrible album cover. It looks like an awkward yearbook photo. Lust for life goes on way too long. Shave off two minutes and it’s a great song. Sweet Sixteen was a first time listen for me and it’s pretty damn good. The Passenger is also one of the top songs on this album. The rest is pretty meh. Nothing stands out. 3

Kul variant

🧘🏻‍♀️💃🕺

i've gotten so much punk on this list that this album whilst having great quality for the genre fills a little stale, but it be vibing at times. plus a bowie album always gets points from me

Usually not the style of music I enjoy, but I don't mind this one. The Passenger is such a classic song and brings this album to life, showcasing his brilliance. The punk and rock elements are quite fun and sometimes a bit random, but nothing I wouldn't expect from him. Not bad.

It's not as bad as I was expecting. It isn't great, but its listenable.

Iggy pop

A very solid 3 star album. Nothing exceptional. Nothing awful. A good listen but not clambering for more.

Not really my taste but appreciate it still. I could do a few songs, just didn’t need to listen to the whole album straight through

Fav: lust for Life, passenger least fav: sixteen

Lust for life is good but too long. Sixteen is okay but too creepy. Some Weird Sin is meh. Then… The Passenger is amazing. One of my favourite songs ever. Tonight is meh, Success is pretty good, Turn Blue is pretty good. Neighborhood Threat is great! Fall In Love With Me is good too. 3.5

Guess the decade!! Another 70s album... Ok, I do know track 1 and loved it in trainspotting ☺️ At one point you can't help but wonder if they all forgot the lyrics. No worry, they'll remember them before the song's end. Track 2. Sweet? Nothing sweet about the sound here. Not for me. Track 3. More 70s music. So edgy! 🥱 Track 4. A hard classic. Track 6: I appreciate everyone trying their bestest. Track 7: ah, a nice, relatable intro at last! Sweet :) Solid song if you give it time. Contrary to track 8, which is anything but sweet. 9... We've all been there I suppose? 😬

I thought he was British. Still up there with some of Lou reeds stuff tho

Das machte damals Spaß. Heute merke ich, dass diese Musik reichlich einfältig ist. Ein Party-Spaßmacher - mehr nicht

The opening kick drum alone is iconic, and “The Passenger” is one of those songs that never really wears out its welcome. The rest of the record, though, lives in a looser, rougher space — swaggering, messy, sometimes brilliant, sometimes just coasting on attitude. I like it, but I can’t quite bring myself to love it. It’s an album I respect more than I reach for.

A product of its time. The 70’s were interesting to say the least. You can hear Bowie oozing from every orifice of this record Only a couple songs I saved from this. I expected it to be a lot rougher around the edges production wise from an album that came out in the 70’s, but it was oddly pretty solid in my opinion. “Man too small for his skin makes tunes to wiggle your finger to”

Iggy Pop’s second album was put together with the help of David Bowie, and I think I heard David doing some background vocals. This was categorized as punk in those days (1977), although it sounds like rock to me. The album was better than expected - solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Whew, caught up just in time for an Iggy Pop jumpscare. It occurs to me although I've heard of him I have no idea what his deal is. Would have guessed 80s. Well, let's see. He's Bowie-adjacent. 'Lust for Life' is in a ton of stuff. But it does sound 80s! I'm validated! Some of the later songs sound more 2000s Rock Countdown (Arctic Monkeys-esque). Some are a little more guitar-heavy though. There is a guy named Warren Peace who wrote one of them, which I like, although that's not his real name. BUT it turns out there was a baseball player actually named (William) Warren Peace, which is better. Maybe I already learned this earlier, actually. Ah well. The album was fine. Didn't wow me.

Lust for life has to be up there with one of the best album starters of all time? Overall the album was enjoyable for someone who knows his hits but not his back catalogue really at all.

Meh. I'll give it a 3 because it's a classic, but I think that's very generous. I find his stuff pretty bland.

A couple good songs and a lot of Bowie's outtakes. I think I prefer the Stooges.

some great hits in that album!

Enjoyed a few tracks in here, but I thought the rest of the record was just decent. Favourite Track(s): The Passenger Least Favourite Track(s): Sixteen, Turn Blue

Lust for Life and Success are the standout tracks. They are coincidentally the two upbeat tracks. The rest is ok, but kind of one-note

Lust for Life and The Passenger were the standouts. The rest were alright but not something I’d come back to.

Just good, classic rock n roll.

Overall a fun time. The title track is one of my absolute favorite songs. I would've preferred more high-energy tracks like that to the Bowie pastiche songs, which kinda killed the vibe of the album. Iggy Pop is cool and charismatic enough, why he felt the need to rip off another cool guy is beyond me. This came out in 1977, which was the year that punk really took off via the Ramones and Sex Pistols. I wish Iggy leaned more into that, given how he was one of the forefathers of punk.

2 radio hits surrounded by 7 passable fillers. You've probably heard what this album has to offer without ever listening to this album, making this a "non essential" listen. Very 70's rock&roll, very of its time.

Classic

I liked a few, will probably listen to some again

Середній альбомчик на 3з5 він нормальний,є навіть хіт,але я б не сказав,що він прям видатний

50s style soulful songs peppered in between a couple electric tracks with major staying power. 50s style soulful songs peppered in between a couple electric tracks with major staying power. Can really hear the Bowie signature on a few of those older style tunes.

Fun, but not memorable

Generally fun but not something I'd listen to again. Reminds me of the kind of shit my male friends would put on and give me an inferiority complex about because I felt like I didn't ~get~ it. That being said The Passenger is good. Turn Blue was a DNF, that song sucks shit.

This is the best album I've heard associated with Iggy Pop, though there are still a few songs I really dislike. I was listening to 'Tonight' thinking that I would prefer it sung solely by Bowie, and lo and behold he did do a cover of it (though I prefer the OG's production, so I guess there's no winning).

british decemberists

Not bad, fun to hear David Bowie on bg vocals

You know, didn't feel like it

Relatively enjoyable to listen to with plenty of catchy melodies and lovely guitar licks. The dodgy lyrical themes bring it down a notch - I'm looking at you, Sixteen. Lust For Life, The Passenger, and Tonight the standout tracks.

List for Life and The Passenger are great songs. The others are effectively Bowie b-sides that I’m not fussed about.

And to think I've gone my whole life without listening to Iggy Pop...glad that changed today.

The Passenger will always be such an iconic song. The rest of this album was just acceptable though.

face is too big

TIL about Sable Starr and Iggy Pop's "relationship." Yikes! I guess I'm not too surprised there's a song called "Sixteen" after all. Anyway, I would like to praise this album despite Iggy Pop's pedophilia. He's talented and created a great album in Lust for Life with a combination of proto-punk and rock. He mumbles and stumbles through his vocals, but it makes for an engaging sound. The title track is absolutely, undeniably an extremely catchy song. David Bowie's footprint is all over Lust for Life, yet Pop does make the album his own. Bowie's presence doesn't overshadow because Pop has such a signature sound. I just wish that the groundbreaking musicians weren't so shitty. Sure, we're all human, but pedophilia is beyond what I can handle. 3.5

It is so obvious on this album not only that David Bowie and Iggy Pop were friends, but that Bowie produced this album. This genuinely sounds like it could BE a Bowie album. I wasn't very versed in Iggy Pop's solo music (aside from "The Passenger" and "Lust For Life"), so this was a learning experience for me, and I definitely enjoyed it. [Some several minutes later] I kind of fell into a rabbit hole reading about Iggy Pop's pedophilia, which I first learned about via other album reviewers calling him out here. He was having a sexual relationship with a 13 year old groupie. And it's not just speculation; he went on to sing about having sex with her on a much later album, mentioning her by name and age. Said album came out in the 90s, so if we are using the (very weak) excuse that "pedophilia was more broadly accepted in the 70s", well it certainly wasn't accepted in the 90s when he wrote his song about it, showing no remorse or guilt. All of this left me feeling a bit gross about liking this album. Why is his behavior not put more on blast? I guess I'm still going to give this album the rating I originally intended, but I'm balancing it out by adding to the voices of other reviewers who are raising this as the issue that it is, and thereby letting my review mostly be about his gross behavior.

I’m giving this 3 stars, mainly because I expected to enjoy it more than I did.

This was a pretty solid album but I really didn't hear any standouts beyond Lust for life (and the real standout is the beaming photo of iggy on the album cover!).

Didn't like Iggy's vocals or most of his lyrics, the band was good though

Whilst the album has a couple of my favourite Iggy tracks on it (Passenger and Lust For Life) it’s not one I’d really listen to in full. It’s ok, but doesn’t set my world on fire.

Honestly not much stuck out to me.

A few good songs that I enjoyed but overall I wouldn't say it was anything I HAD to go back to. Strong 3.

Very Iggy Pop.

Enjoyed this much, much more than the Stooges Raw Power. Just had a better feel and songs.

Pretty good. Idk why I had in my head that Iggy Pop was hard rock.

this album is ok and kind of fun but I just didn’t like its sound that much. It’s like a more energetic Lou reed. Also the album cover mildly creeps me out (sorry iggy). turn blue is pretty weird but it might be my fav song instrumentally

This was a fun one. I don't think I really jived with it enough to consider it a four but a very solid three for me.

Thoughts before listening: The title track is great, but I don't know much else about this album. Id assume some dirty, punk inspired rock though. Review: I was pretty accurate with the sound and the great title track. "Passenger" is another really good song from this album, with the rest being perfectly fine. David Bowie produced this album and this does come off as a dirtier version of what he was producing around the same time...glammy punk inspired rock n roll. I'm not sure I need to listen to Iggy singing about showing his explosion to "sweet sixteen" though. 3 stars.

old noise

Classic, sure, but a lot less biting than I expected.

The reason this is the album cover is because it was the only photo available at the time where Iggy had his shirt on

Decent album.

Passenger best song 3.8

It's alright. Not really that interesting. Middle of the road. Stand out song: passenger

Solid record from a legend, some classic tracks on here.

This is so fun! [Lust for Life] is very upbeat, a different sound from what I usually go for. [Sixteen] is also nice. [Passenger] is just, lovely. Favourite(s): Passenger, Neighbourhood Threat

Definitely a solid album, enjoyed it a lot more than I thought it would, but probably would not listen to this album again for awhile.

Iggy Pop, _Lust For Life_ 🌟🌟🌟 I like it and had no idea what its singles Lust For Life and Passenger say about the album as a whole It had a pleasing mid-70s Rolling Stones/Bowie feel to it I had never heard the track _Tonight_ and found it absolutely stunning It's a grab-bag of stuff. More polished and socially acceptable than The Stooges, but maybe missing some of that garage energy too.

Some very good songs, Passenger e.g. But in general to slow for me

Yeah this was fun. Sent me on a deep dive to the history of that supremes/motown rhythm. Will the next artist also be white tho?

Įdomu, kai kurias žinojau, šiaip malonus paklausymas.

𝘓𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘓𝘪𝘧𝘦 is the second byproduct of David Bowie’s Berlin trilogy, though it only partially bears his sonic fingerprints. The record is rawer and more straightforward than Bowie’s own work of the era, with Iggy Pop’s charisma front and center on classics like 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳 and the title track. Energetic and iconic, but not as consistently compelling as its reputation suggests.

Success is the standout track for me in this album

I was excited to give this a full listen already being a big fan of the title track and The Passenger. And I’ve got to say, those two songs were the highlights.

I think you must see Iggy Pop live in person to fully appreciate his manic approach to music. Unfortunately does nof translate well to disc - rather somewhat boring...

Decent album. Heard the passenger before. Definitely the best track. Keeping this album but not something I would listen to often.

Gritty rock, very listenable vocals that hold your attention. Iggy has such a unique quality to his voice. Much less punky than I would have expected due to the pictures I have seen of him without having listened to his music previously.

Didn't realize how many Iggy Pop songs I knew. Good album.

I know what the wiki article said, but still, all I hear is Bowie’s influence. Maybe that’s just a sign I need to dig into Iggy’s own music to get better acquainted…

Tää ei ollutkaan niin sekopäistä ja huumeenhöyryistä kamaa kuin Iggy Popilla on. Tyylikästä rokkia ja isoja klassikoita. Parhaat: Lust For Life, The Passenger, Neighborhood Threat

While upbeat, it feels little repetitive. The vocals are a bit droning. I guess that's another album that demands you to focus on the lyrics and their context? either that, or this type of rock is just kinda outdated. It's... kinda boring. :( Ok, Tonight was kinda nice. Was it covered by Tina Turner later? I do have to say, my feet are tapping to the beat. The songs ARE catchy. OK. Turn Blue is AMAZING. I love this vibe. It actually caught my interest again. ...but the rest of the songs are still just not my type.

bowie? neighbourhood is hilarious

It's got a lot of power in the record, I like the variety of vocals. It's weirdly optimistic / positive feeling? Unfortunately, nothing really is sticking right now but it feels like a fun album to have on in the background

Some solid classics, but not a fan of the mumble singing and some of the lyrics haven't aged well.

This album grew on me after a few listens but ultimately The Passenger is the only song I really like. I was in a terrible band that covered this song in high school and I probably have a sentimental attraction to it.

I realize upon listening this that while I knew what Iggy Pop looked like - I didn’t know anything about his music! Recognized a few songs, like a few more, some had questionable lyrics, but ultimately I enjoyed the music.

I like Iggy, I mean he’s a legend after all. But he’s not much of a singer is he? Have you heard his version of China Girl? At least 2 of his best songs are on here and it was a mostly fun album to listen to!

Unique voice and songs surprisingly durable, but a bit of a pedophilia vibe.

I don’t have much experience with Iggy Pop, so I went into this record fairly blind. It was a good record, with solid rock instrumentation and a good vocal performance from Iggy (whose voice is a weird blend of Bowie and Joe Cocker in a way?), but is it a hot take to say I don’t quite get what’s so essential about this record as to include it in the 1001 albums list? Like, don’t get me wrong, there weren’t really any songs I disliked or anything. But the first four songs were extremely forgettable, kind of doing a Rolling Stones/late era-Beatles/Thin Lizzy thing years after those original records. They weren’t bad, but I was surprised at just how…generic they felt. Things picked up with “Tonight” and “Success,” which were my two favorite tracks on the album, and then got more experimental and interesting with the final few songs. These tracks really saved the album for me, even though they won’t stick too long in the mind. “Tonight” was a great song, but I prefer the Bowie version from a little later. The last thing I’ll say is that the mixing left a little to be desired. This was not going for a super clean sound clearly, and I thought the best songs here really captured that feeling (“Success” was especially good in that regard). But some songs had the vocal track way too low, and others brought Iggy in a little heavy. It felt like a record that could have used a little more time fiddling with the details to get a slightly nicer sound at the back end, which would totally have been possible without sacrificing the dirty sound. I want to be clear: I liked this album just fine. But there’s no tracks on it that I see myself returning to anytime soon. As a member of this list, it feels a little lesser-than.

This album has so many bangers that have been sucked into commercials. Solid, again punk was very poppy back in the day.

Unexpectedly good and enjoyable noise.

Light and easy listening. Sometimes not cohesive. Overall enjoyable. Doubt if i would buy it. Solid 3

didnt stand out besides: The Passenger (but that obvious) Turn Blue Neighborhood Threat

Jag gillar ändå det här men vet inte om jag kommer gå tillbaka till det och lyssna på det självmant då det är lite för rockigt för mig. Jag tycker det blir lite mycket

The passenger was great, the rest of the album muddled together. All in all, it was aight

This album was failing to grab my attention for almost the whole thing, then the last three songs came on. It was an entirely different musical experience as a blend of pop and spoken word romantic poetry, it was crazy.

It was okay, nothing groundbreaking for me.

Short and sweet, 2 classic tracks and a garage rock background.

love the passenger! excited to listen to iggy pop a british icon

I like passenger This is the first album in a couple that I’m fr listening to all the way through because I have to clean today… so need to be doing that more I think I judged some of the albums unfairly because barely had time to listen Anyways I’m also loving Tonight

Maybe I’m getting jaded because I probably should love this but I don’t… still a good punk album from this handsome young man.

Before I ever listened to Iggy Pop, I knew him as that shirtless guy who looked extremely punk/rock and roll. Then I heard the title track -- now used in TV spots for Carnival cruises -- and it blew my brain. It's good and catchy and all, but it is in no way punk or rock and roll... devoid of any context I would guess it was by a one-hit wonder named like Jimmy's Backyard Bumpkins during the original British Invasion in 1969. Anyway, this is a good album but nothing extraordinary. More influenced by disco and late 70s stuff than I would've liked. And the back half is just not very interesting to me. Probably better as an EP that ends with The Passenger.

Not really my thing, but liked it.

Loud, proud, melodic. Love Iggy’s voice.

There are songs in this album that I’ve heard before but had no idea they were by Iggy Pop. I really enjoyed the rhythm sections of the songs.

His second album. Rock / Punk. Album produced by David Bowie. Opening track, Lust For Life is a well known classic. The Passenger is also another good one. The rest of the album feels like a bunch of Bowie knock offs. A bit Bowie wannabe. A solid album but thats it really.

That's not my taste in music - except the brilliant song "The Passenger"

Some great songs some good songs couple of duds

This was grand. Enjoyable, but I wouldn't be racing to hear it again. The two big tunes are great, of course. "Tonight" has echoes of Bowie and the Stones. "Success" is one that I might remember if I heard it again. And I Am Kloot certainly seem to have heard "Neighbourhood Threat" !

Fun upbeat, listened to this on a couple bike rides in NY and def keeps the vibe up … the glamour rock which I’ve enjoyed is also audible in multiple parts which I imagine are bowies finger print

Had no idea Bowie was involved with this one. Can't hear Lust For Life without thinking of Trainspotting.

“…fashion, style, elitism, satanism…”

***An ok album

Great!

OH MY GOD THE INTRO WAS A WHOLE MINUTE the song lust for life felt sweet, like something i'd leave on for cooking bread and eggs. good place vibes. not a big fan of the voice. all the songs remain in the same tone throughout the verses. I liked the beginning verse and intro of 'some weird sin', lyrics seem a bit shallow..? Passenger is nice, has a positive vibe to it. Glad i listened to it!!

I enjoyed this album quite a bit, even if Iggy looks like Ellen on the cover. The Passenger is definitely a solid track, but I think I'd have to go with Lust for Life as my favourite track, even if it's a little cliche.

This was the first Iggy Pop I didn’t hate. It was actually pretty good. His music sounds matured, more put together and more thought out.

Not bad!

Two absolute classic tracks don’t make this a classic album. Revisiting this album today still can’t find another track to appreciate.

big fucking television

Its ok, love the guy, stooges the greats

1977. Some enduring hit songs and overall solid story telling. I think this is Iggy's best album

good shit

Not too shabby. 3/5

Some good songs, I need to listen again properly

It was fine

Sounds eclectic and generic at the same time somehow

Very briefly my favourite album when I was maybe 15? Had no idea who Iggy was nor Bowie’s involvement. All I knew was the dj at the Batschkapp in Frankfurt, Germany, played The Passenger every Friday and that was my jam. That’s basically where I’m still at with Lust for Life: I dig the title track and am aware there are other songs, but The Passenger stands well above the rest. I am told it was in a commercial.

Standout Songs: Some Weird Sin The Passenger Tonight

Thought I had listened to this before, but I guess not that closely. Between Lust for Life and The Passenger + The Stooges I expected to like this more. Minus a star for Sixteen. The number of musicians that wrote songs about lusting for underage girls in the 70s/80s is unbelievable.

I kind of expected better from this album. It was good and I enjoyed listening to it, but I wanted a certain je ne sais quoi to it given the hands involved in its creation. And I couldn't find that here, which is disappointing.

Had a very classic 2nd British invasion rock sound. Felt similar to a lot of things I've heard before (the clash, David Bowie (ziggy stardust, let's dance etc)). I feel meh about it? The music was good, and within my tastes, actually, but it didn't grab me. I found myself treating it more as background music.

Good crunchy angry rock.

A few stand out tracks - lust for life, passenger, success - but was already familiar with those. Didn't care for most of the other tracks

The best parts sounded reminiscent of Bowie. And what do you know: this was a Bowie collaboration. Call me crazy, but I’d rather just have Bowie.

It's alright.

Got some belters but a bit same-y.

This album seems to be somewhat love/hate, but it was pretty unremarkable for me. I liked Lust for Life, The Passenger, and Fall In Love With Me most.

Odd duck

A very strong album - ‘Passenger’ is one of my favourite Iggy Pop tracks. Overall, a consistently strong effort.

my fav (obviously beside the passenger) was turn blue 3,5/5 😁
